Ykno despite how this site screams about found family, leaving abusive relationships, how family isn't all about blood, ppl will still focus on what is closest to the nuclear family and when it comes to wwx, the jiangs fit that role better than the wens do. They were together since they were children, jyl referred to wwx as her brother, jyl and jfm refer to him as a-xian, they have a mother and a father (even if they were neglectful/abusive). They fit the role as wwxs "birth" family and the wens fit the role as his best friends and family is higher up in the hierarchy than friends. It's subconscious but it's there. That's why I think there's so much focus on the jiangs. They just fit the preconceived notions of the family system better/earlier.

Oh, absolutely. And more than that there’s this whole thing where it’s like “Oh but the Jiangs are his family!” and... they’re not. It’s conspicuous how much they’re not. The Jiang parents don’t adopt him, JC doesn’t swear brotherhood with him... Like, take the end of the Sunshot Campaign as an example. JGY gets recognized as JGS’s son to the point of being named the second heir despite JGS actively disliking him for his part in the Sunshot Campaign and NMJ and LXC both swear an oath of brotherhood with him, this guy they’ve known for less than a year. WWX... doesn’t even get a title or some land off of JC. JC actively refuses to name WWX as part of his family! It feels very deliberate when you consider the parallels between WWX and JGY that JGY gets the family and power and protection he wanted from the father who loathes him (even though it’s almost certainly not what he wanted outside of the broadest strokes) while WWX doesn’t even get halfway decent treatment from the “brother” who supposedly sees him as family. Certainly he never even seems to consider the possibility of tying WWX to his family in any meaningful way. Meanwhile the Wens bring WWX into their family without hesitation in every way they can. I think this is part of the big foil between the Wens and Jiangs; the Jiangs have the correct image of this lovely family, but if you look beneath the surface they’re the absolute worst while the Wens look like a bit of a mess on the surface but underneath that are genuinely loving and care and will do anything for each other. We’re running into the same issue of people taking the surface level element of the story and missing that MDZS has a lot of depth beyond that, I think.

AOS Kirk is essentially fanon kirk with the added backstory of abusive stepdad/uncle and and a mom that's constantly away for business. He's got daddy issues and is a womanizer etc etc. What I'm saying is he uses AOS Spirk fics to work through his issues

GOD you’re so right, it’s absolutely the worst.  If you’re not already aware, it’s specifically something called rejection sensitive dysphoria and it’s estimated that 90% of people with ADHD manifest it to some degree.  It’s apparently unique to ADHD and most speculation thinks it’s about, like, the way the ADHD brain struggles to regulate emotion, which most people associate with big impulsive outbursts of rage.  I’d recommend doing a cursory google if you’re not already familiar--there’s not a lot of resources out there but it’s nice to feel like I’m not crazy.

The thing is, it’s so annoying because I’m like “I've made a fucking LOT of progress toward not thinking of myself as a worthless person, I very rarely get into non-RSD-prompted spirals about how I’m a failure anymore, I work on it every day, AND YET HERE WE ARE.

I love it when in fix it fics the lan and nie sects find out the truth of the burial mounds and stand by WWX cause it just shows that the argument that JC gave (and the fandom still runs with) is purely bullshit and people know it. JC could have protected WWX if he just sucked up his pride and asked for help from the sects known for righteousness and not made things actively worse for wwx. These fics still want to say JC was right tho cause if he wasn't then they would have to acknowledge JC was full of shit and doesn't care about wwx. It's both funny and frustrating.

Also it's been entertaining watching us as a collective slide from "JYL was fine if problematic" to "fUCk JYL." Cause the more you think about it the worse it gets. Did she do it intentionally? No, but her actions are still her actions and she still mentally fucked wwx over

LXC outright defended the Wens until the people who knew what was really going on shut him down and I will never stop pointing that out because that alone proves the “JC had to kill the Wens because no one would take their side” argument wrong. And yeah, it’s infuriating seeing fics acknowledge that if JC had gone to the Lans and Nies for help WWX may well have lived while also trying to insist that JC was totally in the right in not doing that.

And yeah, JYL fucked over WWX a lot and it gets buried under the “what a good sister” stuff but it’s like. oh my god shut up about how WWX’s always smiling so it’s fine that YZY and JC abuse him.
