The Hellfire Forest - Part One: the Hunt's Beginning

This is my Blood Moon story! I had this idea while I was studying the afternoon after the Blood Moon lol

I decided that I'll divide it in two parts, because it's too long

Also, it's a little bit horror-ish, I know (and I already told you)... but, the Blood Moon is one of the major symbols of dark fantasy horror ;)

Anyways, I hope you'll like it!!

And now, please, sit down and enjoy the Part One!

The Blood Moon was shining high in the Sky. And I was full of rage.

I needed something more than a deer. I needed to satisfy my needings, my urges...

I was... exploding from the inside.

I could feel my blood running extremely faster in my veins. I felt so powerful, so strong.

I was a mass of pure rage...

After Rain brought the deer to our Pack's main territory, something came to my mind...

During the Blood Moon, the Midnight Forests become the Hellfire Forests.

These Forests are the exact opposite of the Midnight Forests. The colors change from blue to red.

Everything becomes reddish. It becomes... what seems like...a mix of blood... and fire.

Unfortunately, the Runes are the only way, during Blood Moons, to access the Hellfire Forests.

And, speaking of the Blood Moon, she's really big there, and so strong... that not only she affects all wolves and werewolves, but she's also capable of affecting all the other creatures that live there.

As we do, all living beings there grow stronger under the Light of the Blood Moon.

And the Forest's Core, well...

It becomes a monstrosity, called the Moon Presence.

And this monster... it's the Core's true aspect.

Because the Blood Moon... she grant us eyes to see... the Truth.

The Moon Presence... a monstrosity capable of killing something... just by channeling the Blood Moon's power into its only eye, and then release it to kill what it wants to kill.

It just needs... the Moon's power... and her knowledge, her Insight.

And, at the Core's place, there's the Hellfire. A flame capable of collecting the souls of the dead animals.

Then, the Moon Presence will channel their strength into the Blood Moon... and this will prevent the Blood Moon from disappearing, and the Night from ending.

The Night... she'll be endless. As long as, lone wolves, lone werewolves and packs kill in the Hellfire Forests, there'll always be souls to collect... souls to give to the Moon...

...to the Blood Moon's Ritual, the Ritual of Mensis.

But, nothing is really endless... because everyone, in the end, will reach the point of absolute tiredness.

That is... a thing that not even the power of the Blood Moon can overcome.

And she knows it very well...

My main reason to go there, are the other creatures that live there.

The lone wolves and werewolves... they call this event, the "Hunt".

Because, as we grow stronger... even if the other creatures do the same... the cycle of life... it never ends.

So, they still remain... our preys.

My mouth was watering at the mere thought of those words...

This was going to be... my first Hunt, with my Pack.

"Guys, I have an idea!" I said, trying to contain my urges...

The others were still eating the deer, but I was looking at the Blood Moon.

"I'll take you to the perfect place..." My mouth was watering... and my eyes were burning blood red, as well as those... of all the others.

"The perfect place for what?" Rain asked

"The Hunt."

"Hunt? Where??" Tori asked, her jaws watering...

"I hoped that you'd ask..." I said

"This... is a special event. They call it the Hunt."

"But to go there..." gosh, I need... to hunt, and eat...

"...you must follow me and trust me."

"Follow you... where, exactly?"

"I'll take you to..."

"...the Hellfire Forest."

"The Hell- what?" Hunter said, confused

"Just... follow me. Okay?

"And guys, trust me, you're gonna love it."

"We're going to do...", my jaws watering... gosh I can't contain my urges, "our biggest hunt ever."

The Blood Moon's effects gave us... an almost insatiable hunger...

"Follow... me." I said

And now, our journey to the Hunt... begins.

I ran off, going to the place where the werewolf squad originally found me, and with me... the Midnight Forest.

"Wait, I recognize-" Hunter said

"Yeah I know... grreerr..." I can't... contain it... anymore...

"it's... where you found me." I interrupted him

"This is where... they found you?" Rain asked

"Yeah..." I said

"Guys, please... we must... hurry." I said

"Daniel, are you okay?" Hunter said

"It's... Her. But- don't worry about me."

"Soon enough... I'll satisfy my cravings..." I replied

"But, why is the Moon affecting you so bad, but the same thing doesn't happen to us?"

"Probably because you're all in your- wolf forms. Yeah, you feel stronger, a lot... And everything is increased in all of you too... But probably- because I don't have a quadrupedal transformation, I'm- more easily affected."

"Maybe you can just... handle it better."

"I... I don't know." I answered him

Then, I finally saw the perfect place... to place the Runes.

"There!"

Thank you, Moon... it was closer than I remembered...

"Now, claws attached to the ground. As strong as you can." I told to the Pack

"Do you remember how it works, right?" I told to the werewolf squad

"Yeah...?" they said

"Okay. Remember it, and then, for this Night... grrerrrrrrr... double it." I replied, the Blood Moon... I was going insane...

"WAIT, WHAT??"

"ARE YOU CRAZY??" said the werewolf squad

"Guys, it's gonna be okay.... Trust- me. I would never do something bad to my pack, nor... you." I tried to reassure them

"Okay, okay. We trust you." they said

"Guys, you're strong enough to handle this... grerrrrrrrrrr..."

"The prize..." I said, my jaws watering, "...it'll be the biggest you've ever seen."

I saw that they were getting more confident about what was about to happen.

The Blood Moon can't cancel fear. But, she can give us more strength and confidence...

"And now, please- grerrrrr- claws... clang to the ground. As strong as you can."

Finally, they all did what I said.

"Are you sure that it's a good idea, Daniel?" Rain asked, with a serious tone.

"Yeah, it is. Trust me. I already told you that... we're going to... our biggest Hunt."

"Listen- I did this lots of times, yet I'm still here and- grrr- alive!"

"Now please- let me write the Runes, so that we'll be able to access- the Forest."

They all nodded in silence, still with little fear in their eyes...

I had their same fear, but after doing this for so many times, I actually got used to it.

I hope the Blood Moon will help them more...

"As I said before, it'll be our greatest hunt... the Hunt."

And after that, I started writing the Runes...

And immediately, the ground began to shook.

"It's happening." the werewolf squad said

"Yeah..." I replied

The Runes in the ground were glowing blood red, and their light strength was becoming more and more intense.

Then, we saw the Blood Moon up on the sky, aligned with the Runes.

"Woah..." Hunter said

The ground shook more violently, the Blood Moon created a beam of blood red light, that went directly on the Runes, illuminating them even more.

The forest became foggy. There was fog anywhere, except for where I placed the Runes', and their surroundings, just enough for all of us.

The wind increased its strength, by a lot.

"This is even worse than I expected!!" Tori said, worried

"Just- grerrrr- Resist!! It's the only way!!!" I replied

We heard lots of thunders, yet we didn't see anything.

"Where do they come from??" Tori asked

"I don't know! It's always been like this!" I replied

The wind became so strong that created a tornado around us.

"Oh. My..." Hunter said, speechless

Everyone was scared and speechless, except me, because I had this experience lots of times, and so, I was used to it.

"Don't worry-! If we stick near the Runes- nothing will happen!!" I tried to reassure them

And then, we saw the Blood Moon slowly going away, and with her, the beam went faded away.

She was even getting bigger.

"Guys- GRRERRRRRR- it's almost... done!!" I said

Part of the pack looked at me, when I growled so hard... and the other part...

"Woah..." said part of the Pack, looking the Blood Moon

"I hope that this wasn't a waste of time" Rain said, worried for the Pack

"I'd never try to hurt- the Pack, and you... you know it. You're my new- family, after all..." I said

"I just want to show you... the biggest hunt that we'll ever go to...", my jaws watering again, "the Hunt, the main source of power for the Ritual of the Blood Moon, or some say...", "...the Ritual of Mensis."

After saying that, we noticed that the tornado... it was slowly fading away.

And when it completely disappeared, we were... in a different place.

The Pack was speechless...

"The Forest... it's completely- different from what I remember..." Hunter said, almost shocked

And it fact, it was... completely red.

Red trees everywhere, glowing red veins-like roots in their logs, red and blood red leaves, the red ground... and pools of blood...

...and in some of them, there were geysers that spat blood jets, and then, they became fire.

And, there were fire sparkles and particles... in all the Forest.
