I’ve been trying to do some art myself and I’d like to know what procreate brushes you use and the steps you take when drawing as tips.

on procreate i most often use a custom amongus png brush and more recently the funny haha brush available for free on gumroad iirc

i am the most satisfied with my drawings when i do not think. its very rare state of mind but when i do not fixate on detail or accuracy it is very fun. recently ive been practicing with line of action website since i can both practice anatomy (since i mainly draw people) and refine my line confidence, line weight, and style within representational work. i have been fond of crayola markers recently because very bold colors and varying line thickness and no room for re-doing, its just getting thoughts onto paper

ive been in a rut with drawing fictional characters, since its constructing a face and body from nothing basically, more dependent on a particular art style convention rather than real-life observable features, and so figure and environment studies are a good treatment to either get out of that or to satisfy the urge to draw without the pressure of a bad creation

now for fun notes and stuff about the chapters i did not add to the end notes

"The sun shines bright" not much to not other than after this clover's hand hurt for like a day and flowey bullied the peck out of them,,, also this is the only time flowey calls clover an idiot on this fic

"The flower pot incident" after the end clover spends like 10 minutes explaining everything about flowey, but he explains it like a little kid would, making it confusing as hell, so ceroba gives up and just like pats him and tells them to be good or smth, it was the same with everyone else

also bad quality comic of how the pot came to be

"What kind of milk were you?" the song came in as i was finishing the chapter and it fitted so well i named the chapter after it, as i mentioned it was me like poking gently to clover's life before the underground, his thought process was mostly thinking marlet was angry at them over doing the dishes in "secret" idk how to explain it but yeah :( poor little fella, also as noted at the end, flowey observed all happening and just like kept in mind

"Sewing back the pieces" I loved imagining how clover's room looked, and i had to include it, more joking around from the best friends, id like to think clover knows how to sew but they are just a bit clumsy with the needle, also those things are slippery...

"The calm before the mall" I feel proud about the title pun(? but this is also what i kind of meant with flowey keeping things on mind, by the time of this chapter a bit of time has passed of them living with humans, and flowey knows how stuff can be and how clover is a biiit shy so thats why the warning was persistent, it didnt work but meh

"Fertilizer is a fun word" IT IS A FUN WORD i love writing it lol, but seriously, i tried exemplifying more the thing of clover not speaking a lot so flowey does most of the talking for them, they do speak a bit but its short sentences and very quietly,

"You are just a boy, you are no man" this one will be long again the song fitted and it came on while writing the middle lol, clover does not know very well about the whole story with chara, but they do know that buttercups are meaningful in some sort of way for flowey so thats why they picked them, now is fun to note that the comments about their friends being monsters did bother clover but the one comment that like spilled the cup was the age one, that one hit deep and thats why they reacted that way, also the amount of people did not bother clover that much when they arrived but like the panic and stuff made them very aware of everyone around and med everything worse so ye, lastly, another time flowey calls someone idiot, this time dalv (sorry king)

Throughout the entirety of this video they do nothing actually helpful for the city (yet continuously act like they're saving the world). Their "good deeds" are either entirely pointless ("traffic control", trying to get rid off the paint with his foot at 0:20, "singing for the youth", "watering" that plant) or actually slightly harmful (blocking some car because of an invisible blue jays nest, refusing to let their brother into the club, feeding shit to pigeons that they should not be doing, trying to get rid of a child's drawing)

Jack stated in an interview once that he's actually afraid of pigeons

Adam is a climate activist now, and I like to think that stemmed from not being allowed into city savers

Damn did I write a lot for a video under 4 minutes. I feel like one of those people that keeps interrupting movies to talk about deeper meanings or explain the jokes now.

his voice is sooooo great, and i have warmed up a bit to him, but all the same. he's just not my type physicality wise, but i think i get the appeal. i also thought it was really sweet they let him have that soft moment with his parents in heaven where his dad tells him how proud he was and all that. (assuming it wasn't all a hallucination, but i digress,) i would've expected them to show his dad giving him a hard time one last time before he came back to earth, but i'm happy the comics let him have this :)

the cop out answer is "well obviously the fire-brandishing character is the hottest-" but that's lame to me. it's honestly REALLY hard for me to see them as attractive or "dateable" just bc I project "my child" onto them. I've mentioned before, but i don't like them bc i wanna fuck them, i wanna protect them like a mother. i wanna feed them a homecooked stew with a wooden spoon, i wanna make crayon drawings with them, tell them bedtime stories, hand-stich him a stuffed animal, yk that sort of vibe. i do care for them a lot, but not in a romantic sense tbh.

Demo and Soldier (7/10)

I'm putting them together bc they are only really attractive to me when they're drawn with bulk-muscle. the idea of either of them packing on lean muscle is so weird to me. but they just feel like such living embodiments of "just here for a good time," and honestly? sometimes that's all you need :) If i HAD to put one above the other, I would put Demo over Solder, bc i ADORE fanart and official art that give him that cute little drunken lazy smile. it's just such a little thing that is so endearing to me!

i'm sorry, i genuinely have no idea why i'm such an apologist for him, i deserve to have my rights taken away for this.

but i think i genuinely envy him in a lot of ways. he's not exactly the kind of attractive i want, but what i want to become. i envy his poise, his swagger, his cunning, (his ability to pull scout's ma). he's such a great jerk-with-a-heart-of-gold type of older guy, of which i am weak to, alas. i NEED to go on a shoplifting spree with this bitch-

the hottest thing to fantasize abt heavy to me is him calling me a weak little baby and mocking me for being a 5'3 underweight, anemic little loser. this man could DESTROY ME, and damn is that fun to think about, but! I'd be remiss not to mention how much he loves his family, how he would do ANYTHING to protect those he loves the most, and i swear, that one panel in the comics of him hugging his mother gets me every time.

i will never get tired of this guy <3 he's the living embodiment of "southern comfort," and much like medic, it's not at all surprising people love him so much. no one else has his character's incredible dichotomy of, sweet and gentle, while also able to deal out insane levels of violence (heavy comes close, but he doesn't quiet have engie's soft approachable disposition). definitely got the short end of the stick in the comics imo, as we don't get to see much of his family (or rather him interacting WITH his family) but in game at least he gives them lot's of shout-outs which is nice, but honestly makes me want to see them all the more! he's such a whore for all those cozy knit-wear cosmetics too. he's perfect in every way, he makes my heart flutter, he has never done anything wrong in his life ever, i would die to protect him.

My goal for this prompt list challenge was to focus on quality over quantity. There’s a few half-assed art pieces that snuck in, but it could have been worse. By quality, I wanted clean line art, backgrounds, and if I have enough time, color!

What drove me to create art: Showing other people that are in this fandom (most notably ⚡@cheriboms). I’d love to interact with other mutuals on here. Shout outs: 💛@bttf-dork 💛@synthsays 💛@alex-a-fans. I feel like I’ve been doing that more towards the end of the challenge, but yall give me motivation! And sometimes, inspiration!

What I learned:

🤔 I can actually draw backgrounds if I actually try [wowowow who'da thunk] It’s much easier to draw a background from a reference rather than coming up with one on your own. So I need to keep that in mind whenever I feel discouraged.

🤔 I feel like my work is very dramatic. Like melodramatic fr. Or at least it can be... I blame watching those tv dramas with my mom when I was a kid. But then again, if you want to incite emotion out of an audience, you gotta know how to frame stuff and do all the fancy cinematography work. So you gotta be dramatic to an extent. I got really really bored with my ideas that weren’t telling a story(or rather a more interesting story…). And that effected my motivation.

🤔 Looking back at the list, I noticed that my top 5s are all either silly or wholesome and I’m glad and relieved about that. I said that I’m really dramatic and there’s quite a bit of angst in there, but ig I’m not THAT edgy (or maybe the prompts didn’t allow me to be🤔👀)

Things that I want to improve on: COLOR THEORY. Brush theory/line weight. I’ve been experimenting a tiny bit with this throughout the month, but I want to delve into it. Since I didn’t work on something for more than a day, I felt like I was throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks.🤪I didn’t get to really study what colors work well and why and experiment with it.

A lot of the ones that I’m not very proud of could be chalked up to not having enough time to work on it/make it better, so that’s an interesting dilemma.

TL,DR; I talk too much. Gotta work faster smh git gud 🙄

HOLY SHIT I did ALOT of writing/edits these last few days!

Also tragically remembered that I wanted all flashbacks/past sequences to be monochrome (except for blood, fire, significant objects), so ha I wasted sooo much time last week coloring the Chapter 0's first few pages! But it looks sck as FUCK, almost like Noir!

Thankfully I finalized the main plot/arc differences BEFORE drawing too ahead. Im SO excited with the filler content/edits Ive made, SG has a very VERY compelling charcahter development plan/backstory thats REALLY gonna take what the original Rough Day already gives us about her to a different FUCKING level.

So now that my major writing-fever/panick in getting the overarching charcater developments finalized has FINALLY ended, I can share the almost finalized sub-chapter titles! Was tagged by the very lovely @optiwashere some time ago, and I've only just had the chance to sit down and take a crack at this!

Not gonna tag anybody, but if you read this and want to do it, consider yourself tagged!

(Also this is talking about a lot of fics that I've written but not published because well... that's just how it's been lmao...

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

13 at the moment. I’ve deleted a few things that I’m not entirely proud of/works that I’m planning on rewriting and improving upon.

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

26,031 (my WIP folder has almost 100k words, if we want any comparison)

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Mainly Dragon Age! Although AO3 is misleading… I’ve only got 7 fics on there for Dragon Age. But these don’t include the ones I’ve deleted and also the literal hundreds of WIP documents in my writing folder. It’s become quite a problem. I’ve also been writing for Baldur’s Gate 3 a bit more recently, but those fics are on hold because of lack of time/motivation/the fact I’ve not finished the game yet and want to do my research and understand characterisation and plot better.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

5. Do you respond to comments?

I try to! Every single comment I get is like fuel to my brain so I love and appreciate each one!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I think I did toy around with a fic where I left Hawke in the Fade. The process of getting into Fenris’ headspace during that was way too painful for me to continue.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Most of my fics tend towards happy endings, even if they pack a lot of angst in the body of em. Of the ones I’ve got published, I’d say Names.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I haven’t, but then again I post so rarely and sporadically so people forget I even exist huhu.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

… Yes… (and that’s all im gonna say)

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I’ve not written crossovers per se, I’m more of an AU kinda guy. Though there’s definitely an ancient story I wrote back when I was like 13 that had like, every single bit of media I’d ever loved merged into one, and the excuse was that I’d just read His Dark Materials and wanted my own universe where everything I loved existed at once. COMPLETELY self-indulgent shit.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not as far as I know…

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope! At least not that I know of.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Again no… I’ve not done a lot of stuff huhu!

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

It’s the one and only. The girls that live rent free in my head. The girls that deserve everything. (It’s Josephine Montilyet/my Inquisitor from Dragon Age Inquisition)

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

It’s the Dragon Age Inquisition rewrite I’ve been complaining about for the longest time. It’s become the pet project I keep poking at whenever I have the energy to. All my Tashak/Josephine fics are set within this, and honestly at this point, instead of making one large fic, I might as well just post the disjointed chapters separately even if they don’t make sense. I’ve got WIPs in the folder from 2016. It’s out of control.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I’d like to think I’m good at descriptive writing, at drawing the reader into the scene and pulling them along with the story.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I’m so bad at dialogue it’s not even funny. Also, my writing can tend towards too much rambling – I guess that’s just because it’s the way my brain works.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

The only other language I’m fluent in is Malay, and I really can’t imagine myself writing in that unless in very specific circumstances.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Dang, I think it was probably for BIONICLE. Way back when I was like, in secondary school.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

Published? Names. There’s stuff in there I still feel jealous of, even today. Unpublished – a bunch of stuff for Aforementioned Dragon Age Rewrite. I should really post stuff from there at some point LMAO…

art retrospective: 2022

hoo boy. a whole year. a lot happened this year and i like to think my art reflects my development. some important milestones include finally choosing a path academically (getting a certificate in medical reimbursement, and ill hopefully graduate this coming fall!!); i was hired for a really decent job (clinical registration and it pays really well); i joined a dnd campaign (WOOOOO SILVERLININGS!!!); and i turned 21!! (didnt think id ever get this far :'])

trying to keep up with my art hobby, i drew A LOT. i really didnt want to get trapped in the pitfall of my depression spells and one of my ways of coping with it was drawing. even if it was just a doodle it meant something to me. so without further ado...

thats pretty much it for this year! theres so many drawings i couldnt fit onto here, and even some i havent posted, but im really proud of my journey so far. i'm really glad i keep all my old sketchbooks and pieces because i can visually see my improvement. it helps me feel better about my strengths and skills whenever i feel like im not getting anywhere as far as art goes.

Fun question cuz I named myself! Currently, everyone refers to me as Theo, which wasn't after anything, but I actually prefer Rex which was named after something I made that Im not going into detail for!!

2) When was the last time you cried?

Ah :'). Actually this is a good question because I can't even remember‼️‼️ My mental health is improving im glad to say 🥳

3) Do you have kids?

Im a minor 😬... I do have four pets though, my beautiful favorite boy loki, Cocoa, Shimi and Bobbi!

6) Whats the first thing you notice about people?

EXTREMELY PALE BLUE!!! I have green tho 😞

8) Horror movie good or bad ending?

Depends! I love a bittersweet ending, especially for a villain. They did all of this just to save someone dying in their arms. They did all this "good" just for everyone to turn on them. They survived but at what cost? Ugh its EVERYTHING to me.

9) Any talents?

No 👍 (just because I know my moots will attack me for that I like to draw and write and I am pretty proud of my writing sometimes)

10) Where were you born?

georgia....... not there anymore tho, so now I have to deal with SNOW 😾

11) What are your hobbies?

I like to draw, write and vibeo game! Specifically Overwatch, Bg3, Minecraft, and (occassionally) dbd. I also like spamming my friends:)

12) Do you have any pets?

Yes! I have my beloved pug, Loki bo Boki. He is very lazy and cute. I also have a chug eskimo mix, Cocoa, who's crazy and anxious. Then there's Shimi, my ragdoll, who is very cuddly and fluffy, and finally Bobbi, the wretched little bobtail (with love).

13) How tall are you?

7'8 (cannot reach the top of my fridge, is 2 apples tall)

14) What was your favorite subject in school?

I luvv ELA! I also like history but i dont pay attention to it as much as I try 😣

15) Whats your dream job?

I have many, being an independent artist one of them but the more likely outcome is something where I work with my hands:) If I'm preoccupied 24/7 im happy!

-1 bc i kept underestimating how long his part was and had to go back and add more frames at least once

all of the frames were pretty similar and tbh that was simultaneously a blessing and a curse

im a britt apologist, she can do no wrong to me, so she's the only one whose bopping around did not cost her any points

every time i thought i was done with her i had to go back and add more frames and i was seething about it

hm i have some very grandiose far-reaching plots floating around rn (runners au and apartment/roommates au) that will be written and “completed,” but probably won’t ever fully get expanded to the point i’ve thought about them, if that makes sense

oh i like to think i’m very good at writing like. domestic intimacy/intimate friendships. feeling like home. comfort, and food! ppl tend to describe my writing as cozy and lived in, and i think that’s what i’m good at! (someone once said reading my fic was like eating comfort food and i literally cried)

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

transitioning!! time passing!! i’m so bad at that! also smut as i’ve discovered lol. i tend to stay away from genres i feel like im bad at writing so that’s less of an issue (hence why i haven’t really written any real angst). writing on my own w no feedback is Hard i would die for someone to look over my stuff

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

if it’s like a random line/couple of lines in a different language then usually i’ll put it in english but in italics. if the entire fic is between people who would all be speaking the same (non english) language then i don’t bother. i don’t translate to that language tho bc i don’t trust translation sites and im VERY rusty on my languages (you will not get french or mandarin in a fic from me i would die of fear). throwing in random words in other languages also makes me cringe in my own writing for some reason? but it doesn’t bother me in others’ writing lol

19. First fandom you wrote for?

if we mean published fic, for either 5 seconds of summer (cringes) or the maze runner, i can’t remember. if we mean wrote in general, definitely harry potter when i was like 9 in a little notebook that i sincerely hope has been burned since then.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

probably the ted lasso fic! i love writing food, and comfort, and that’s like entirety of the fic, so. if i get runners au off the ground any time soon i would bet money on that becoming my fave tho

tonnes lol, i’d say every 2-3 pieces i draw gets some kind of negative attention. recently there’s been an asshole in my asks accusing me of fetishising ian and mickey so thats something to look forward to every time i pose

i want to go back to shows i watched as a kid like total drama island and draw the characters in my art style, i did it with the winx club earlier this year and it was fun. i want to draw harringrove but im not mentally prepared to be like,,,sent death threats atm

i really want to draw drummer mickey for some reason

people i guess, maybe like details on clothes and stuff?

like harvey said haha i also use the same colour palette especially skin tones and hair colours also i sketch a lot of the drawings traditionally and then trace over it on photoshop

myself. i would still be drawing even if no one notices it. heck i draw so much stranger things stuff only for a top of 10 people across instagram, twitter and tumblr to interact with it.

i sit at my desk and use a wacom tablet and my laptop. I have my other laptop open and im normally listening to a tv show that ive seen so i dont have to pay attention or a play through of a game or some creepy stories. sometimes i listen to music on my record player. i always spend ages looking at pose references and rage quitting when i dont draw it right the first time before coming back to it a few hours later. i draw mostly in the evenings, after dinner. sometimes i drink a hot chocolate if its late enough lol.

-I’m a female! Really short I wouldn’t say I’m proud of it but it’s about 146cm and i have a medium build. Super short black hair,people say I’d look like a boy if it wasn’t for my voice and my height . I like to wear oversized stuff and shorts.

Personality:

-I’m overall a really quiet, polite and awkward person in public.I have a hard time making friends or talk.I only speak when someone talk to me first.I keep on shuttering,shaking n blushing whenever i talk in front of the crowd,but it get better when im just talking to 1-2 person(please social anxiety is killing me).People pleaser, even if I know that they dislike me I’d still want to please them.I guess I’m really good at reading people .I hardly ever shown any emotion at all in public,bitch resting face <33

-When I’m with my close ones I tend to be chaotic and active I also joke around a lot. Screaming every 5 seconds and constantly annoy them. I acted like I don’t care about them but when something serious happen I will be my softer self ,giving them gift or stay by their side and comfort them.

-I tend to talk to myself whenever I’m alone, like splitting into different version of myself and talk about my day and problems (self venting 😍💅). I daydream a lot like every 10 minutes I thought of a new scenario.I act proud and giving myself compliments on everything I do.And I cuss a lot more when I’m by myself.

-I get overly excited and hype when I’m in my messaging/texting mode. I absolutely detest talking in person or facetime.I literally have another persona online.Im a pretty hard working type of person,i constantly overwhelmed and stressed myself out on being better than I already am.My motivation is money 🥰

- I have a really bad memory, lost track of time easily.Bad mood swing, happy and playful,then having a mental breakdown a moment later.I often skip meals depending on my mood.

-I love going outside but just with myself, I love exploring and observing things.I spend most of my time in the dark locking myself in room, draw ,sometime play games and then sleep. My daily routine is just helping my family and then go inside my room.

Look, it's Ignihyde!

The two of you probably got scared to talk to each other at first :/, but after the two of you started to get closer, you guys started to open up. He would start talking about the kinds of games he likes and his other interests, while you started to warm up to him as well (you dropped your resting bitch face after a few times meeting him, which made him less scared of you haha). But seriously, he doesn't mind if you have social anxiety since he prefers staying with a few close people already. The two of you are similar in that sense, and it gives him comfort knowing that you guys prefer less crowded areas.

Don't worry about seeming chaotic with him when you get close, he's just as chaotic probably. He'll always seem tired outside but when the two of you are hanging out together, he has unlimited energy. This can be seen with how long you guys stay up playing games online or binge watching anime. He understands how you have an online persona, since he's similar in that way. He would never have the courage to facetime anyone, but he's totally fine texting or gaming with total strangers. If anything, it's comforting to know that he's not the only one like this, since it seems like everyone around him prefers to facetime on random occasions. He probably likes to daydream as much as you do too. If you ever draw, he would love to see what you come up with. You can show him a draft or a sketch and he'll be impressed, he might melt if you ever draw him haha.

i love making comics but

they dont make money

they dont get you clouted

the more effort i put into making them good the less money and clout i get from them (and the reverse is true the less time i spend on them the more money and clout i get from them but i dont want to live my life like that)

i want to have money and clout so that i can do things with my friends like publish comics for real because most comics publishers big and small only publish comics called "tomato boy" about a little boy that is sad he can't be a tomato written by a person who has like 9 cactuses on their very well lit white wall apartment window sill and they watch nothing but cooking videos and brian david gilbert videos or like an extremely derivative hero/shounen comic thing where everybody looks like a plastic piece of shit like gwenpool and both versions of that sit on bookstore shelves infinitely and dont get bought by anybody but suckers and nobody remembers them 8 months after they get made and i dont want to make either of those and i want to be able to establish an environment for myself and my friends who make stuff other than that where we can get money from doing it without killing ourselves

most of the comics ive made have been like intense labors of love and are full of my blood and im still just some nobody with like 4000 followers (and only that many on twitter which might explode) and thats not sustainable and im going to die if i keep trying to climb the hill that i want to climb by making stuff i believe in entirely in the comics lane and exhaust all of my comics ideas and passion for doing it for nothing but street cred

the more time and money i invest in making clothes so that i can get an audience and money so that i can make comics the less time i am able to spend making comics

the average clothing thing ive done has given me like a 10 to 1 return on investment and also people actually wear the shit and rep it in a meaningful way that extends beyond like my book that i care abt sitting on their shelf mostly forgottten

ultimately i think that it will make me better at making comics though because there is way too much of a glut of guys who just make comics anyway and being outside and seeing shit and having opinions abt shit other than comics makes me smarter and have more stuff to say in my comics when i do make them

i have in the past year gotten better at drawing in specific ways that im proud of bc of doing stuff other than making myself sit in front of a photoshop screen for 8 hours a day to doodle stuff im only loosely passionate about and giving myself time to air my shit out

i know how to do things like how to contact manufacturers and custom design shit now that i didnt know how to do before and i wouldnt have known how to do before if i didnt take time to do stuff other than try to make comics in photoshop. im so much better at printing now. idk. im gonna make more comics if i dont get hit by a bus first. but in the meantime im balling
