reader impact || first meeting

series masterlist characters: xiao, albedo genre: fluff summary: a game has been released entitled genshin impact, consisting of otherworldly abilities relying on the basic elements of nature. the game follows the story of an interdimensional traveling twin in search of their other half. along this journey, they meet different characters that live in this world. including you. notes: have i read a few genshin impact x game character reader stories and impulsively decided to make one too? maybe. you can't prove anything. i don't know if this will be a series but we'll see :D

xiao's playthrough -

xiao, named as alatus on his streaming platform, has made himself known as a gaming streamer with an awkward personality and blunt words.

he's the type of streamer who wouldn't have a set type of game and would, instead, play whatever his viewers recommended.

valorant? sure, he'll try it out.

hitman? why not?

animal crossing? it's a complete 180 from the other games, but sure.

when one of his viewers recommended genshin impact, he was quick to say yes and search for the game.

once the game finishes downloading, he quickly begins the game.

once the opening cutscene passes, he compliments the overall aesthetic of the game, pointing out the smaller details such as the footprints made by his character and the sound their clothes make when they move.

as always, his expressions are quite monotone to a point where it seems nothing draws his attention towards the game.

one of his mods, however, knows xiao well enough to where he knows which character he would like.

they convince xiao that the game is worth sticking with towards the second half of chapter 1, act 1.

he doesn't understand but he trusts his mods so he promises to continue.

it takes a few hours, especially because of the grinding, but a few streams later he's finally made it.

after fighting a one-sided argument with cloud retainer, he immediately begins his trek to the wangshu inn. and yes, trek, he enjoys walking/gliding through the world of teyvat rather than fast traveling everywhere.

he walks up the stairs to the top floor of the inn, resting his hands in his lap as the cutscene begins.

"to the blind, everything may not be as it appears..."

xiao is normally stoic during games, even ones with scenes made to fluster the player and catch them off guard.

but not this time.

once xiao's character is faced with yours, he just stops. his chat is spamming messages, asking if he's okay and if he's actually emoting for once.

he just stares at your character for a good five minutes.

and trust me, at least half of his viewers clipped that.

"... who are they?"

that was his only question after those minutes of silence. never before had he been attached to a character within the first few minutes of meeting them. his mind is racing and all he can think about is how amazing your character design is and how nice your voice is and how cool your character is and--

oh right, he's streaming right now...

anyway, the more your conversation goes on, the more he loves your character.

you're just so sassy and snappy but he loves you either way.

once you turn away with your back towards the camera, he just stares.

he stares at the intricate tattoo on your exposed arm and the mask hanging off of your belt.

and then you're gone.

his face drops so quickly and his viewers are very quick to point it out. he grimaces once paimon starts talking and he's very tempted to just speed through her dialogue.

he just wants to see you again.

once he hears from verr goldet that you've never smiled (at least around her), he immediately turns to the camera and says, "we better make them smile in this game."

once he finds out about your favorite food, he's already asking his viewers if he's able to get the recipe for it.

the next time he gets to talk to you, his face just lights up once he sees your character standing on the balcony.

however, once his characters tell you about rex lapis's death, his heart sinks when he hears how sad your voice becomes, even if your tone is still as harsh as before.

he gets all sad again when the quest ends and he has to wait to unlock the next archon quest.

he ends the game there and decides to spend the last few minutes talking to his viewers.

"i'll stream genshin again soon."

his viewers all know it's only because he met you.

albedo's playthrough -

albedo often does art streams and the occasional science-y stream.

if he does games, he mainly uses them to admire the art/mechanics of the gameplay.

genshin impact was one of those games he decided to play on his own solely because of the beautiful scenary.

(and the opportunity to draw more characters).

he's definitely the player that cares about elemental reactions above all else. pretty much every character he uses is built for elemental damage instead of physical.

most of his genshin streams are him walking around teyvat and pointing out the scenary.

he was definitely excited for the dragonspine event because that meant a better view of teyvat!

what he wasn't prepared for, however, was the reveal of a new character: you.

he isn't too into looking at the updates for genshin on his own, so he didn't find out about who you were until his stream asked about it.

he decided to react to the newest updates live since his chat seemed excited to hear his input.

once he pulled up the latest update details, he spent a few minutes talking about the new subzero mechanic.

but once he scrolled down to the characters... OH BOY

he's able to keep his composure but he definitely spends longer talking about you.

he almost gasped when he saw you were the chief alchemist of mondstadt.

combine that with the fact that you rely on elemental damage instead of physical...

your honor, he's fallen hard.

he'll put a countdown on stream to when your character and event drops, even on his non-genshin streams.

speaking of those streams, on the week just before your event, his streams will all be based around you and the information he's seen on you.

his art streams will consist of you and how he thinks your attacks will work just based on the description (he purposely avoided all pictures of your attacks for this stream).

his science-y streams would probably be based on your element.

once your event drops, that's the only thing he'll stream until it's over.

your assistant used to be his favorite character to play as but they just never clicked. it's not like he hates your assistant, it's just he didn't immediately fall in love with them.

his party definitely has your assistant in it, though.

he would have normally taken his time to look around dragonspine and admire the new scenery, but he couldn't help but speed through it until he finally gets to see you onscreen.

once the cutscene officially introduces you in front of a canvas, he's internally panicking.

you like art too?! and science?! how perfect can you be?!?!?!

he will genuinely feel bad when he scares the hilichurls because he knows that that's what you were sketching.

"who are you? why did you alarm them?"

NOW HE FEELS EVEN WORSE

even when you tell him you've finished sketching, he wants to make it up to you :((

if he were able to, he would've lured more hilichurls to let you sketch more.

some people in his chat would probably spam him to skip your dialogue because it's so wordy, but that's the exact reason why he listens to it all.

he likes listening to your character ramble on, especially because you have a soothing voice.

anytime your character does their idle animation where you give life to something, he will always let it play. even if your dialogue is finished before the animation, he would not progress until it's completed.

once your character asks for help, he would immediately agree before you finished your sentence.

man just wants to spend more time with you.

he likes staring at the tattoo on your neck whenever the camera is close to you. he just thinks it's really pretty on you.

once your other nonplayable assistant begins talking, he'll skip through the dialogue. he doesn't care if it goes more in depth into this world's alchemy, he just wants to hear it from you.

"hmm, looks like the potion's ready. i'll try a little first."

"please don't..."

he doesn't want you to try it just in case it hurts you :(

anytime he is allowed to walk freely with you around, he'd definitely put his traveler character next to you for a few minutes and just let you two stare at each other.

someone asks him why he spends a few minutes doodling on his desk when you talk.

he shows them the notebook that he had been writing notes in. it's filled with little doodles of you and some more information you give on the world of alchemy.

for future streams the involve you, he'd set up another camera to show the notes and doodles he's making about you.

sometimes he'll spend a few minutes on a single section where the camera is focused on you just to recreate the picture in the notebook.

he absolutely loves whoever planned out the camera angles because of how cute you look in every one of them.

he definitely gets a bad vibe from rosaria when she hints at the fact that you may be using alchemy against him.

he will defend you and alchemy to his grave!

that one scene where you create a flower in front of you is one he will always treasure.

he makes sure someone clipped that moment just so he can draw that, make it a print, and put it on his wall.

since most of his viewers most likely consist of artists, he will encourage them to draw you and send him fanart. he will put them all on a wall and dedicate every picture that goes there to you.

"if i one day lose control... destroy mondstadt... as well as everything around it..."

"huh?"

"will you be there to stop me?"

"wait... no."

if people were only listening to that portion, they would still be able to hear the pout on his face.

he'll end the game there but change his stream into an impromptu art stream.

he will only be drawing you in nice situations to distract himself from the fact that there is something going on with you.

"hm? what do you mean something's wrong with (name)? i have no idea what you're talking about."

Hello there Anon. This reminds me a lot of those "potions" that we all made when we were kids but they were really just soap and some other stuff mixed with water. I also took some creative liberties with this one cuz I had to mix it up a bit. Here's your request. In other news tumblr crashed on me in the middle of this and deleted a whole ass section. 🍊 Is immediately suspicious of you. You served him a glass of your new "concoction" but it just tasted like orange juice. Does he look like an idiot to you? 🍊 Begins "interrogating" you about the drink like you're in a trial. You must be the ultimate actor because your acting skills were top notch during the questioning. 🍊 He's out of truth bullets, shit. You got lucky this time, he has his eye on you. 🍊 He is also a massive hypocrite. 🍊 He loves watching others' reactions to your "concoctions". You usually pull this trick when they have already tried some of your original work, so they definitely don't expect to taste lemon juice in what is supposed to be a glass of your newest work. 🍊 Tries to hold in his laughter because then it would look suspicious, like you two were up to something. Maybe in the future though. 🍊 Back on track, he just knows you're paying tricks on him and wants to confront you about it, but… 🍊 Man's a simp. A surprise to be sure. 🍊 That was the start of a routine. Everytime you played your tricks on him, he'd pull you in and kiss you. Nagito Komaeda☘️

☘ Very conflicted on how to feel. On one hand, he is sure what he is drinking is not the liquor you said it was; but on the other, who is he to doubt an ultimate? ☘ Plays along and congratulates you on your drink, saying it was very tasty. Bonus points if you do this trick in front of others and they're saying it's plain juice and not whatever fancy name you had said. ☘ Lowkey loves when others argue about your drinks. He always takes your side and it's hilarious. ☘ "I'm telling you that's not wine, it's cranberry juice!" ☘ "It's wine, if the Ultimate Enologist says so then it's wine. Did you spend years studying wines and their craft?" ☘ "I'M NOT AN IDIOT THAT'S CRANBERRY JUICE!" ☘ After a few more tricks he figures it out. You're playing a prank on him huh. ☘ He lets you know by saying thanks for the juice instead of whatever it is you said it was. ☘ You almost dropped the glass you were holding. He thought it was due to his luck, but he let it pass. Your face was just too funny to let the opportunity pass. ☘ Even though he knows, he still plays pretend from time to time. One because it makes you happy and two because you have to keep the illusion going for the others. ☘ You bargained with him over that last point. You promised him cuddles (after lot's of convincing that he did deserve them) in exchange for him acting along when you pulled your trick on others. ☘ Now he gets your cuddles, free drinks, and gets to witness your funny moments when you pull the prank on others. Man he really is lucky. ☘ If you name a drink after him or if one of your drinks is inspired by him he'll cry. Will refuse to drink it himself. ☘ You also share a drink that you say it's a new wine but it's really just dyed water. Others are confused by your couple ritual but y'all are happy so who cares. ☘ Nothing makes him happier than hugging you while you work on your drinks though, it fills him with hope <3

🐹 Is convinced you're working with dark magic. You made wine taste like orange juice, what type of sorcery do you practice? 🐹 Asks you to see the process to check for magic. Oh no, you're fucked. 🐹 Or so it seems. When he's not looking you swap the drinks and keep the illusion going. He has yet to find out. 🐹 You sometimes pretend to add blood (red food coloring) to the decorations of the glass you serve your drink in and pour a special wine into them to make it look like blood. 🐹 People are convinced you two are vampires because of this. 🐹 You make non alcoholic drinks for the Devas in exchange for protection and a special place in his dark realm. You can also pet the devas free of repercussions. 🐹 Is insulted when someone even dares to suspect your drinks aren't really anything new. How dare they question the work of his soul's chosen companion sorry Hajime. 🐹 Very confused as to why others argue with you over your drinks. He is certain the contents of that glass are not apple juice, it's your new concoction inspired by the Devas. 🐹 The day he finds out your secret is the day the apocalypse began (not really but it felt like it). 🐹 You were preparing your drinks for the trick and waiting for him. He decided to surprise you by showing up a bit earlier and that resulted in him catching you mid switch. 🐹 Kept staring at you and the drink back and forth repeatedly, until the information was processed. 🐹 He's been tricked, sabotaged, and quite possibly bamboozled. 🐹 Began to doubt your status as a mortal and started having a crisis. In front of two perfectly fine drinks but ok. You came clean after that and he feigned betrayal. Even got the devan in on it too. 🐹 Both of you acted like it was a scene from a telenovela while trying to hold in y'alls laughter. You eventually got to the part where you begged for forgiveness. 🐹 Will forgive you on one condition, you pull that trick on Souda <3

Sonia Nevermind👑

👑 Before you even got to pull your tricks on her you were already her own personal enologist. Only the best for a princess. 👑 Does notice that your concoctions taste strangely like every day juices you can buy from the store, but she decides to give you the benefit of the doubt. 👑 Loves it when you do it to others though. She might not know what is happening but watching you argue with Fuyuhiko over what you just served him is hilarious. 👑 Gets whiplash whenever you pull your trick right after a formal event. You serve a magnificent cocktail never seen or tasted before and the next second you serve her what tastes like pineapple juice. 👑 You come to her for inspiration on what drinks to do next, it mostly involves references to the occult disguised as fancy people drinks. 👑 Does she find out about your secret? Yep 👑 She was looking for you to spend quality time together when she say you pour a glass of peppermint lemonade and label it as "new drink". 👑 Someone walked up to your stand and asked to try said drink and you served them the lemonade. They were extremely confused and from there a discussion started. 👑 She scurried away before you could catch her, equally as confused as the poor customer you just served. 👑 The next day, she asked to try some of your drinks and they all tasted like normal drinks. What happened to your awesome concoctions you served during parties? 👑 She's on a mission now, she's gonna get to the bottom of this mystery. 👑 One time, while you weren't looking, she snuck into your storage room to confirm her suspicion and found you working on your new wine (legit this time). 👑 You didn't seem to mind she had snuck into your storage room and invited her over to see the process. After that was done you offered her a glass as a taste test. 👑 She took a sip and it tasted like…mango juice? 🤸 She would gulp down anything that you "concocted" for her because she loves you and you make killer drinks. 🤸 Would probably "get drunk" on whatever you decided to give her because of placebo effects and whatnot. 🤸 It is very fun to give her something like lemon water and saying it's a new type of tequila and you want her to do the honors of taste testing it. 🤸 Gladly does it and comments that it takes a bit like lemon. Then gives suggestions to other flavour you could add in your "tequila". 🤸 Others have tried to convince her it wasn't a new concoction because after the ntheenth time she had fallen for the trick it got a bit worrying. 🤸 She denies it every time. 🤸 One time you were serving her a glass of your new "drink" that was really just apple juice dyed to look like fine wine. 🤸 "Thanks for drink S/O, it looks delicious!" 🤸 You try to supress your giggles as she drank the whole thing and gave you back the glass. 🤸 She did comment that it "kinda tastes like apple juice" but that theory was dismissed due to the color of the drink. 🤸 Your plan fell right into place, good for you. Ruby and you were walking down the hall together when this girl came up to the both of you, more specifically you.

Yet she knows that you’d drop anything for her, all it takes for you to notice is her looking down.

The girl, her name didn’t matter, in Ruby’s not so humble opinion. She started following you guys to your next class, insinuating it was on the way to her’s.

And with that you two kept talking, Ruby started feeling a little left out and sad. To let you know she bumped into your side, after that she sped ahead.

“What’s up with her?” The girl asked with a bitter tone. You merely smiled in Ruby’s direction.

“Sorry but I have to go catch up with my girlfriend.”

And with that, the girl was left alone in the hallway.

You dedicate anything you can to cheering her up, she was slightly flustered about this at first but now just enjoys how you are.

Ruby sat rather glum in her seat, it was her final class of the day and that whole girl thing just left her with a bad attitude. She would’ve acted like a bitter child in her dorm but here you were.

“Ruby, would you like to go to the bakery with me? And maybe play some Kung fu ninja slayer ultimate death battle? The second one isn’t as good.”

Ruby smiled at your actions and quickly hugged you as you both headed to the bakery.

Weiss wouldn’t be exaggerating if she said she had a literal ball of sunshine as a girlfriend

“Weiss~ get upppp.” Weiss felt someone’s fingers brushing through her hair, the action made her want to sleep more. Of course she knew only one person who could accidentally make their work harder.

“Good morning Y/N.” She gave a slight smile, still a little drowsy from just waking up. She thought she woke up at a decent time, her new alarm clock being way more pleasant to wake up to than her old one.

You gave her your signature cinnamon roll smile and her morning got exponentially better.

Unfortunately your cheerfulness attracted unwanted attention, you simply thought you made more friends but Weiss saw the looks in their eyes

You were putting your weapons in your locker when you heard someone calling out your nickname in the distance.

“Sunshine!” You looked to see there being 4 older girls, the leader being the redhead named Stella. You quickly shuffled over to them, looking quite cute given you had a lot of big textbooks in your arms.

She understood them, you were just so...cute when you spoke. You genuinely tried to keep up and pay attention with everyone.

“Stell, what’d I say about that name!!” You huffed with a pout, the older girl merely gave a teasing smile as the girls behind her looked at you with interest.

“Sorry cupcake-“ you squaked at the name. “But my team just wanted to meet you, like a lot.” She exaggerated with big hand movements making you giggle, the girls behind her looked embarrassed.

“It’s okay! I wanted to meet them lots too!” You gave them a bright smile, they all looked at Stella with disbelief in their eyes.

“How is she so sweet???”

“I don’t even know.”

You didn’t hear their conversation but took a quick glance at the clock and bid them goodbye.

She supposed she could be considered a sort of knight in a way, just instead of an honorable battle there are threats and grimm(see what I did there?) promises

Weiss saw that whole interaction, her fist gripped hard around Myrtenaster. She observed Stella stay behind while the other girls left, that’s when she decided to strike.

With a slam, Stella got startled at the sound and looked back to stare into cold blue eyes. She shivered at the intensity in them, Weiss perfected the Schnee intimidation expression.

“I’m not going to listen to a single rebuttal, you stay away from Y/N, don’t look at her, don’t even breathe the same air as her. If you do I swear I will gut you like a turkey.”

Stella merely nodded, her being beyond intimidated. And with that Weiss left the locker room to join up with you.

When she did, you smiled at her, completely clueless to what she just did.

-Teasing/smooth talker popular

Blake wouldn’t call herself possessive, she knew from past relationships how that could go. Yet she couldn’t help but notice the sheer amount of girls with an interest in you.

You had walked away from Blake’s dorm after telling her good morning, she left her door slightly cracked open on accident. As she went to fix it she balked at the amount of girls she saw following after you in the distance.

“What…..?”

She honestly couldn’t blame them, you were pretty suave, another main thing that she knew contributed to your popularity.

A girl who was part of the group following you had tripped in the crowd. She closed her eyes preparing for a rough fall yet she didn’t feel it.

“Are you okay dear?” Your smooth voice asked. The girl blushed, your arm was around her waist as you asked this.

She could speak so she nodded causing you to give an amused and slightly teasing smile. You leaned into the crook of her neck.

“Be more careful next time chéri.” Your lips were right next to her ear, then suddenly you left. Leaving behind an embarrassed puddle of a girl.

She wouldn’t notice, much to your amusement, that she would get more clingy and needy.

“Hey kitten, I have to head to Miss Goodwitch’s class, I’ll be back in a bit.” You informed her as you were ready to leave the room.

“Wait, it’s a little chilly so wear this.” She handed you her favorite black hoodie, on the chest it had her initials, white and in cursive. The sleeves and hood were white so you’d have to be a bit careful.

You merely stared at it for a bit in amusement before chuckling and putting it on.

“Thank you dear, I’ll be back soon.” You smiled as you gave her a kiss, not even mentioning the fact it wasn’t even chilly.

A perfect example of an extremely jealous Blake Belladonna would have to be that one time she was waiting for you in professor Port’s classroom.

It seemed the hoodie wasn’t enough to drive some girls off, here you were, leaning against a hallways wall. In front of you was a timid looking girl, she looked the slightest bit like a squirrel, cute but you preferred cats.

“May I help you?” You asked, you looked to the side, you just wanted to be with Blake right now.

“E-erm yes! I was just wondering if you..me ...date..” She trailed off in the end but it was clear to you she asked. You gave her an apologetic smile.

“Sorry but-“ Before you could finish your sentence Blake came with her arms wrapped around you from behind.

“Y/N/N, who is this?” She asked as her head rested on your shoulder. You gave a wry grin at her behavior.

“This is-“

“I’m no one, sorry for bothering you girls!!” She squeaked out as she bolted away.

At first Yang would compete with you each day over who got more love letters, she thought it was pretty funny. At least until you two started dating.

Yang felt her eyes twitch as she saw the love letters fall out of your locker. She knew from experience that some would hint about you two breaking up, most didn’t even have names she could hunt down. It still frustrated her after you two made quite the public announcement about your relationship.

She did not jump onto a lunch table with a speaker for nothing.

You hummed at the letters and put them back in your locker.

This is usually the cause for Yang’s jealousy.

During times when your charm was reaching high levels Yang vowed to always be close to you, no matter where.

Yang and you were standing in front of the vending machine in the cafeteria, you were messing with team JOCK as you got your soda. Yang was fairly involved in the conversation, after all even she could admit that Vacuo’s team was treated unfairly in the final match.

Atlas Aristocrats, that was literally the team name, quite obviously bribed the referee. I mean seriously, Atlas people don’t even like football!!

Now that that’s out of the way, she kept her eyes glued on team JEWL(Jewel). She knew they wanted to join in, yet her glare kept them away. Needless to say even she was surprised at how charming you were today as you leaned and whispered in her ear.

“Ready to eat?” You asked with a dorky smile. She nodded and threw her arm over your shoulders, ignoring the blush she got from your action.

It was basically forbidden to ask about Yang’s small notebook, it could literally fit in her pocket.

Yang could feel you staring at her notebook, she knew you wouldn’t ask though. You were respectful like that, so she didn’t have to worry about you seeing her add Team JEWL’s names to it.

“Yang?”

“Wassup?” She asked with her signature smile.

“Ice cream?” She immediately knew what you meant, putting her notebook in her pocket she got ready to take you on Bumblebee to get some ice cream.

Yet every time she crossed something out she looked pretty achieved, and simultaneously a girl would stop obsessing over you

Yang felt pretty proud of herself, she managed to have another girl get the hint. You were taken by a hot blonde bombshell, with smug proudness she crossed out the name.

Suddenly she felt someone hug her from behind.

“Yang, while I am happy you’re making people get the memo I’d rather it be in a way you don’t get detention.” You nonchalantly teased her, she laughed knowing she was caught.

“Sorry Y/N/N~ but aye on the bright side…” Her brain failed her at this moment.

“On the bright side?”

“Uh- it’s bright?”

shuichi's fluff alphabet!

a - activities (what do they like to do with their s/o? how do they spend their free time with them?)

shuichi would enjoy calm, serene activities, like a walk through the park, on a beach, or sitting in the library. however, if you wanted to go somewhere rowdy, like an amusement park or concert, he would still enjoy it. honestly he would put up with nearly anything for you. if you're a rowdy person in general, he wouldn't mind you dragging him all over to do exciting things. in fact, he would find it refreshing!

as for everyday things, he prefers just being in your company. reading a book together, dining together, having deep conversations.

b - beauty (what do they admire about their s/o? what do they think is beautiful about them?)

for shuichi, appearance doesn't matter nearly as much as what's on the inside. that being said, he would admire the optimism in you, or your tenacity. he would appreciate an s/o who can be mature when needed, but also silly. shuichi just thinks your entire personality is beautiful, really.

although, he does love your eyes, too. he would stare into them as you're talking, making sure you know he is listening intently to whatever you're saying. he loves the way your face lights up when you smile or get excited. those are the things that he finds most beautiful about you.

c - comfort (how would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack?)

shuichi never really had to deal with something like this before, so he kind of just goes based off how he would want to be treated if he was in your place. at the first sign of your discomfort he will ask if you're okay. then he will ask if you need some space. if you say yes, he will leave, after assuring you that if you need something you can come get him anytime.

if you want him to stay, he will ask if you need a hug. he will wrap his arms around your shoulders and pull you close to his chest, resting his chin in top of your head. the one thing shuichi always wanted to hear was "everything will be okay," so he makes sure to tell you that as well. he hates to see you sad, but tries to act as calm as possible so his calmness will hopefully spread to you.

d - dreams (how do they picture their future with their s/o?)

he definitely sees you as a permanent person in his life, and he isn't too worried about where you will be in the future, since he mainly focuses on the present. however, sometimes he fantasizes about marrying you. he imagines what you would look like the moment he proposes, in your wedding dress, eating cake together.

if you dont want to get married, that's fine too! it has never been a huge goal or dream of his. plus, as long as you're together, marriage isn't too important. it's just a name change and a certificate, right? other than marriage, he does think about having children with you. he often wonders what they would look like, and how great of a parent you would be to them.

e - equal (are they the dominant one in the relationship, or rather passive?)

shuichi sees the two of you as completely equal. your thoughts and opinions are just as important, and he always makes sure to include them. he isn't a very dominant person in general, so he would either be passive or somewhere in the middle. he can be assertive when needed, though. shuichi won't let anyone be toxic toward him, including his s/o. but that would be the only time when he would assert himself over you. other than that, he would never allow himself to speak over you or act like he is the "better" person.

f - fight (would they be easy to forgive their s/o? how are they fighting)

if you were ever to fight with shuichi, it wouldn't be over a petty argument. in those situations he tries his best to listen and apologize, then do his best to fix it. however, if it's a really big fight, he has a bit more difficulty holding himself together. at first, he would cry a little bit. then he would get frustrated. though, he would never ever resort to violence with you. while he might say things he will regret, he tries his absolute hardest not to hurt you.

however, shuichi can and will stand up for himself if need be, he isn't a complete pushover. *little headcanon tangent here*: if you happen to be arguing and he spots toxicity or ab*sive behavior, he will call you out. he is working on self worth and knows what he deserves. good for him :)

g - gratitude (how grateful are they in general? are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?)

shuichi sometimes gets caught up in his work and doesn't really see all the things you do for him. but when you're gone, he starts thinking about all the things you do. even small things, like bringing him tea when he is working, or dabbing his forehead with a wet cloth when he is sick. it is easy to not notice all the little things someone does for you, but shuichi is a thinker. if he realizes he maybe hasn't expressed his gratitude enough lately, he will immediately start giving back.

to express his gratitude, he will either tell you outright how thankful he is, or make a gesture. he will probably offer to do all your chores or treat you to dinner wherever you want. he makes sure to do this often so you never forget that he loves you and what you do for him.

h - honesty (do they have secrets they hide from their s/o? or do they share everything?)

there are only two types of things shuichi would hide from you. one would be some guilty pleasure of his that he has been made fun of for in the past. he tries hard to avoid the judgement of others, even his s/o. the other would be something he thought would potentially hurt you, or something unnecessary for you to know (i.e. he overheard someone talking behind your back). he doesn't like getting involved with drama if it doesn't concern him, and he doesn't want you to waste your time on those petty jerks. plus, he genuinely doesn't think it is something you would want or need to know.

other than that, he tries his hardest to tell you the truth all the time. he knows from firsthand experience how detrimental lying can be to a relationship, and he cherishes you way to much to jeopardize it.

i - inspiration (did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? like trying out new things or help them overcome personal problems?)

this one is a big yes! you gave shuichi a reason to make self improvements! before you came along, he didn't realize he had such room for change (the good kind). for example, shuichi didn't realize his self worth until you started expressing your love for him. he finally realized he needed to recognize his worth and what he deserves.

after you entered his life, he went around asking the smartest people he knew for advice on how to be his best self. he thought that if he was going to have someone important close to him then he needed to be at tip top shape for them. you're very special, so of course he would want to be the best partner he could be. his friends mostly told him to try to keep an open mind, listen to others, but most importantly to take time for himself. he took this advice wholeheartedly, not just for you, but also for himself.

j - jealousy (do they get jealous easily? how do they deal with it?)

it's perfectly normal for their to be a small amount of jealousy in a relationship. shuichi is human, of course he gets jealous sometimes. he tries to shove it down, which of course isn't very healthy. when he bottles too much up inside he tends to get a little cranky, and might hole himself up in his room. but he would never think about taking it out on you.

when he gets like this he attempts to calm himself down before expressing his thoughts to you about it. he'll do breathing exercises or drink some tea and read a book. it helps him a lot to be alone in a quiet environment in these times. once he is back to his usual self he will laugh it off with you.

k - kiss (are they a good kisser? what was the first kiss like?)

now, shuichi was definitely not a genius first time kisser. he just decided to go with what felt right. your first kiss probably took place after the two of you got together, maybe a few weeks or days into the relationship.

you were talking about something that you really enjoy, and as he watched your eyes light up with excitement as you talk about your favorite thing, he realized this is the moment when you're most beautiful to him. as soon as you finished talking he looked at you with a serious yet adoring face and asked if he could kiss you. when you said yes, he slowly leaned forward until your lips met. he wasn't really sure of what to do with his hands, so he just grabbed yours. when it was time for the kiss to escalate into something more, he listened to his gut. you were probably the one to initiate the makeout session by nibbling his lip. he was all for it of course, just a bit nervous.

now he is a natural! doesn't take him much thought what he does with his hands, lips or tongue. you are a very lucky person, s/o. ;)

l - love confession (how would they confess to their s/o?)

shuichi put a lot of thought into this. however, he didn't rely on his friends for this one. although he always goes to them for advice, he wanted this to be all him. he also didn't want to be embarrassed in front of everyone in case you said no.

the confession happened while the two of you were alone, either in the dining hall, library or outside. you weren't hanging out, you just happened to be in the same place at the same time. so he thought this would be a good opportunity. he cleared his throat, not to get your attention, but to try to avoid his throat closing up due to nervousness. he would then say something like:

"hey, y/n, i was hoping to talk to you about something." as soon as he got your full attention he would start rambling on about how he admires you. he would compliment your ultimate somewhere in there, before finally getting to his point. after clearing his throat again, he makes his best effort to look you in the eyes (though that is pretty difficult for him), and says it. "i like you, i think you're very sweet, and i want to get to know you more." when you told him the feeling is mutual he actually started freaking out internally. of course he tried to keep himself composed on the outside though. (babyyy ahhh)

m - marriage (do they want to get married? how do they propose? what would the marriage be like?)

he wants whatever you wants honestly. marriage isn't a need for him, but don't get me wrong he would absolutely love it too. anyway, the proposal would be fairly traditional. he would spend a great deal of time picking a ring, definitely worrying if you would like it. once he is sure he found the one, he would buy it and immediately start thinking about where to propose.

he would end up choosing a place that isn't too public but still somewhere significant to the both of you. he would definitely wear something nice too. it's kind of important to him that there aren't people around, because you know that can potentially cause problems. plus, this is a you and him thing, not for anyone else! finally, once you're alone in a quiet spot, he would get down on one knee. "s/o, you're the most important person in my life. you inspired me to become my best self. i am so ready to spend the rest of my life with you, devoting myself to you and only you."

domestic life with shuichi is amazing. you never really notice how different he acts around you versus others until you live together. you both balance chores, go together to get groceries, etc. somehow you make the boring and mundane more exciting :)

n - nicknames (what do they call their s/o?)

shuichi doesn't seem like one for pet names at first. further down the line, though, they would grow on him. he originally just called you by your name, or a shortened version of it. Then he started to use babe, honey, dear, because it seemed like you were enjoying it. his least favorite pet name for you is babe. he really likes sweetheart and love. overall, pet names aren't his sort of thing.

as for him, at first he would just like to have you call him saihara. now, he wouldn't admit it, but he goes really soft when you call him baby! if it's you, he will let you call him anything to be honest.

o - on cloud nine (what are they like when they are in love? is it obvious for others? how do they express their feelings?)

although he isn't one to brag about his s/o to others (in fact he actually prefers to be pretty private about his love life), it is quite obvious to everyone that he is in love. they can tell because he seems happier, and more talkative. miu even said that he is "glowing." :)

of course it's even easier to tell when he is with you. you can see his true feelings in his eyes when he is looking at you. you can feel his true feelings when he kisses your knuckles, when he leans his head on you. You can hear them when he expresses his love for you verbally every day. He expresses his love in many ways, even in small gestures that might be overlooked, like making an effort to not wake you up if he has to get up before you, or organizing your mess.

p - pda (are they upfront about their relationship? do they brag about their s/o to others? or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?)

as i said before, shuichi isn't very comfortable being open about his relationship. the most he would do in public is hold hands or hug. he won't necessarily brag, but he will answer polite questions like "how are you and s/o doing?" with pride. he is definitely proud of you, even if he doesn't make a point of telling other people. he tells you, which is what is important.

q - quirk (some random ability they have that's beneficial in a relationship)

his ultimate! shuichi's talent as ultimate detective allows him to be very perceptive and smart, not to mention mature. this is good for relationships since he can tell when your behavior changes, which he can then ask you if something is wrong. his maturity and knowledge as a detective allows him to make rational decisions even under pressure, like if you're in a heated argument. he knows how to diffuse many different stressful situations because of his critical thinking skills.

r - romance (how romantic are they? what would they do to make their s/o happy? cliché or rather creative?)

shuichi isn't one for romance clichés, but he hasn't had much experience with this kind of thing, so that's what ends up happening anyway. other than the occasional bouquet of flowers, necklace (if you wear jewelry), or snacks, he doesn't give gifts much. he thinks love can't be bought with money or gifts (hear hear). of course he gets you gifts on anniversaries and birthdays and holidays, though.

s - support (are they helping their s/o achieve their goals? do they believe in them?)

of. course. he believes in you, and he is more than willing to help you achieve your goals, whether that be directly helping you with a task, or just giving advice. if he isn't tired or busy with work, he will do anything he can to help. shuichi is actually really invested in your goals. we all know he likes helping others, and he would most likely receive a sense of pride after seeing you accomplish something whether on your own or with his help.

t - thrill (do they need to try out new things to spice up your relationship? or do they prefer a certain routine?)

to an extent, shuichi really enjoys routine. but, like any person, he would get a little bored without occasional exposure to new things. he asks you to take him out to do something interesting at least once a month. his favorite new thing was going to a pottery store and learning how to make things out of clay. it was super satisfying to him to make something artistic. i might even say it was therapeutic for him. he also really enjoys going to art museums! this man has a natural affinity for art. it gives him a sense of serenity.

u - understanding (how good do they know their partner? are they empathetic?)

shuichi knows a heck of a lot about you, mainly because he loves listening to you talk about yourself. he often asks you questions so he can learn more, too. he genuinely doesn't mind it. he enjoys falling asleep to your voice as well! as for empathy, he tries his best to understand your feelings. he often asks himself how he would feel in your situation, and that helps him a lot with empathy.

v - value (how important is the relationship to them? what is its worth compared to other things in their life?)

shuichi knows well enough to put his own health, mental and physical, over anything else, even you. however, other than that, you're probably at the top. maybe even more so than some of his friends. he loves you and appreciates you very much! honestly, his life would be so different without you and he doesn't know what he would even do.

w - wild card (random fluff headcanon)

he likes to dabble with cooking (just imagine shuichi in an apron oh wowwww).

he is a bento box lover! he will often make you them with different ingredients each time to see what you like most, and just to experiment with flavors. he is really good at it too, everything he makes for you is homemade. he takes a lot of pride in it, especially when you enjoy them! (he would be overjoyed if you made him one so you could eat together. <3)

x - xoxo (are they very affectionate? do they love to kiss and cuddle?)

while shuichi isn't the most affectionate person ever, he does love it. when the two of you are alone he will often lean his head on your shoulder, grab your hand. if he is reeeally in the mood, he loves to make out with you. his touches are usually slow and sensual. he will hook his arm around your waist, lovingly caressing your body, or rub his thumb on the back of your hand. all of his affection is displayed thoughtfully and with care.

y - yearning (how will they cope when they're missing their partner?)

for the most part, shuichi likes alone time. but, if you're gone for a long period of time, he will get a bit grumpy. sometimes it will be noticeable, but not always. if he misses you that much, he will busy himself with a book, hangout with a friend, or just fantasize about you. whether he relives old memories or creates fake scenarios in his head, that is a great way for him to cope when you're gone.

z - zeal (are they willing to go to great lengths for the relationship? if so, what kind?)

if you were having any kind of relationship issues, shuichi would definitely try to salvage it. however, there is a certain extent to what he would do to save it. but don't worry, he doesn't give up easily. he will give your relationship what it needs to thrive. a break, space, communication. these are all important to him. of course he doesn't want to lose you. i see shuichi as someone who won't take any bullshit, either. he will try his best to fix it.

Having a kuudere s/o

Floyd Leech

No one expected that you and Floyd would get along. While Floyd's mood can be fleeting, yours was the complete opposite with your seemingly eternal stoic expression.

He would always try to elicit a reaction from you be it by teasing you with words or by tickling your sides. You were plenty different from his peers; who he was able to easily get reactions from, so from the get-go Floyd decided that you were boring.

The turning point of your relationship would probably be the first time a witty remark slipped from your lips and Floyd would make a big deal out of it. Did he hear that right? Has he finally earned a reaction from you? He would be buzzing, poking your cheeks now and then going "Ne, ne can you say that again?"

Floyd is needless to say, full of surprises—sudden back hugs while he rests his chin atop your head, planting a quick kiss over your cheeks or a sloppy one over your lips. While most of the time, you would only stare back at him there would be times when you would feel a bit cheeky to return the kisses and Floyd loves it when you do.

During his not-so-good days, Floyd was used to being left alone to deal with his bad mood, but that change ever since you came into the picture as he would completely bask in your comfortable silence.

When he comes up to you with a sullen expression, just hold his hand and keep him close to you. Your touches be it—absentmindedly drawing circular patterns over his hand, or placing soft kisses over his jaw would; most of the time, do the trick.

You may not be that vocal about your love but Floyd knows that through these little actions there was no doubt that you care about him. Actions speak louder than words.

Bonus: The first time he saw you smile was when he started repaying you back with kisses after you pulled him out of his bad mood. It would have been in the middle of him giving you eskimo kisses that Floyd saw you smiling widely and he instantly melted.

“Koebi-chan is soo cute when they smile!” He would comment, before cupping your cheeks and start peppering your face with kisses.

Jade Leech

No one knew that you two were a couple, not even Floyd or Azul. It wasn't until Jade offered to walk you back to your dorm; as you would usually stay at Mostro Lounge until it was closing hours, that Azul noticed that something was going on.

Neither you nor Jade can remember the exact moment. Initially, you and Jade were partners in Alchemy class assigned by Crewel. Since Jade is quite reserved himself, the two of you eventually came to a mutual understanding in helping each other out even outside classes. It was like a cliché love story, lab partners turned to love partners.

Subtle. No one would think that you two were a couple, unless they really paid attention. A lot of subtle touches—lingering touches while passing laboratory apparatuses, polite nods while passing by each other in the hallway or when you pay Mostro Lounge a visit, and sharing chaste kisses when nobody is looking.

Jade loved the subtlety of your relationship and his fondness for you just grows each passing day. You're just intriguing—being the one to initiate things while keeping a nonchalant expression. Linking your arms with his, interlocking your hands together while you lightly sway it side to side, and his favorite; when you stand on your tiptoes to give him kisses.

Jade would usually ask what you were thinking about. Surely, there's more to your nonchalance that meets the eye. Maybe you were feeling a little cheeky because you would answer You. Was that an attempt of you flirting? Or was that a genuine response? Nonetheless, Jade would chuckle and throw back a compliment.

Bonus: The first time Jade saw you smile; a smile that made his heart skip a beat, was when he had you taste test a new dish they were going to serve in Mostro Lounge. It was a rare sight to behold and Jade wanted to keep that moment imprinted in his mind, your smile being his little secret.

Sebek Zigvolt

If Sebek was being honest, getting in a relationship was the last thing in his agenda, yet fate seemed to have played him.

Since he was inexperienced with dating, he would ask Lilia and/or his peers, especially Ace for tips. Making matters difficult for him since you are part of his friend circle and Ace seemingly always made sure you can hear Sebek asking for dating tips.

Teasing. There would be lots of teasing in your relationship especially from your side. Sebek is pragmatic in his own way, which you found really cute. He even has pick-up lines scribbled down on flashcards that he kept in his front pocket.

You would pick them out from his pocket when he least expected it, reading the dating tips out loud to see his cheeks go pink. Though, seeing your facial expression remain neutral through the whole thing would make him think that he was on the right track. Maybe he should ask more advices from Lilia and Ace.

Sebek makes sure that getting in a relationship would not make him neglect his duties as Malleus' vassal. He wasn't even sure if looking for Malleus or patrolling the night with you even counted as an ideal date.

When you assure him that you didn't really mind and was glad to keep him company, Sebek would already be thinking of ways to pay back your thoughtfulness tenfold.

Bonus: “Will it be alright to kiss you?” Sebek had used a gentler tone, cheeks tinting a shade of pink. It would have been the first time that you saw him completely shy. “Lilia-sama said to always make sure to ask for conse-” He had continued before you cut him off with a kiss.

It would have been the first kiss that you two had shared and Sebek's cheeks just grew pinker as he felt you smile through the kiss. “Did that answer your question?” The smile on your face didn't falter and Sebek felt himself echo your smile.

Malleus Draconia

Maybe it’s a like attracts like kind of thing. Lilia had said something along those lines the first time he had seen you and Malleus together. Malleus took you to a stroll around campus as he rambled on about gargoyles while you indulge him, snapping photos with the ghost camera.

Communication is key. Malleus is reserved, much like you so whenever you interact its all short but meaningful conversations. Though that changed entirely as time passed by, with you opening up to the fae and vice versa.

While your relationship relied heavily on communication, there would be little moments when your hand would find their way to his. It would be the first time the two of you had any form of physical contact and Malleus would look at you, an amused look painted on his face.

Interesting—he found it both odd and interesting, how you keep an unreadable expression despite it being the first time you two were holding hands and Malleus was feeling cheeky enough to test your reaction; brushing his thumb over your knuckles before squeezing your hand tight which seems all for naught when you throw him the same unreadable look.

The way Malleus sees it, your nonchalance is your charming point. Sure he has come across different types of people from the years he had walked the world, but it was his first time dealing with someone like you, firsthand. He was surprised at first, but learned to deal with; and not to mention love, you and your expression that seems to contradict your actions, especially when you were feeling affectionate. But hey, he likes it when he’s able to shower you with love and attention and seeing your face break into a smile or hear your laugh was rewarding.

Bonus: The first time Malleus saw you smile was during the earlier stages of your relationship. You had asked him to take a photo using the ghost camera and he was more than happy too.

As soon as the polaroid came out of the camera, Malleus let out a soft gasp to see the smile on your face flicker and he couldn’t help but smile too. “You should smile more” He whispers, before leaning to place a kiss over your forehead, the smile still lingering on your lips.

1.) Who says I love you first?

It’s definitely V. The boys are terrible when it comes to verbally saying it--especially Hiro. It takes him at least a year of being in a steady relationship with Johnny/Vic before he is able to say it out loud--and even then it’s not something he says a lot. He has other ways of showing it though, and is demonstrative, just not always verbally.

2.) What are their primary love languages?

Hiro is really into physical touch and acts of service. He’s definitely good at picking up what people say, so a comment about being tired in the morning might get him to begin leaving an extra cup of coffee out, or a comment about aching muscles will have him sheepishly offer a massage--those thermal mods are unexpectedly good for it. He also began teaching himself how to cook better, after seeing how much Vic enjoyed trying new foods and definitely enjoys finding new dishes she likes. All three of them really value quality time, and try to make time to just chill occasionally. Gift-giving isn’t necessarily as important--they’d rather just spend time with their partners. Hiro and Johnny aren’t initially good at words of affirmation but it’s something they’ve been working on--especially because Vic seems to thrive on it.

3.) Who uses cheesy pick-up lines?

Hiro and Johnny are pretty blatant flirts, but they don’t usually rely on pick up lines. Vic has attempted them on hookups at the bar before but she uses them wrong and usually fucks them up. She’s definitely the type to make groan-inducing puns/dad jokes that the boys love hate though

4.) How often do they cuddle/engage in PDA?

Frequently. You can usually find them in a pile on nights when they’re not busy/out on gigs. All three of them are fairly physical/really enjoy touch so cuddling is pretty common. The boys are fairly demonstrative with public affection, and V is usually a little more restrained. She’s not modest about it per-se, the other two just have zero shame. She’s definitely one to casually hold their hands though.

5.) Who initiates kisses?

Hiro and Johnny usually. Vic is affectionate but the boys are usually the more physical ones. Sometimes she’s not in the mood and she’ll just sic them on each other, which is a good plan, seeing as they usually wear each other out. All three are usually fairly physically affectionate though, even in a casual manner--holding hands or just non-romantic touch.

6.) Who’s the big and little spoon?

Hiro is usually the little spoon. He hates being the big spoon because it usually ends up with him falling out of bed/with his faced squished into someone’s back or their elbow in his stomach. His favorite is sleeping in the middle and Vic/Johnny are usually pretty agreeable about this. He gets cold easy too, and both of them are furnaces--so that’s just an added bonus.

7.) What are their favorite things to do together?

They love to go and grab food/coffee together or go for long motorcycle rides or find quiet places to walk--especially when Vic is homesick for the quiet of the Badlands. Hiro and Vic like to go rock climbing together and pack a picnic and find a nice spot to watch the sun set. Really, they’re pretty flexible. They like to try to roadtrip together when they get the chance/everyone can get out of work--some of their happiest memories are driving with the music turned up loud and no real destination.

8.) Who’s better at comforting the other?

Vic is better at verbal comfort. She’s the type to make you tea if you’re sad and sit down with you to talk/lend a listening ear. Hiro isn’t as practiced at it as Vic is but he tries to ask himself what she would do in a situation like that and tries his best? He’s getting better at it. He’s good at non-verbal comfort, just being there to listen, and be a non-judgemental party. He’s good at empathizing even if he doesn’t always know exactly what to say/is usually happy to offer.

9.) Who’s more protective?

I think they all are in different ways? Hiro probably is the most so. It’s hard to win him over/win his trust but once someone does he’s really loyal/protective and he’s not afraid to show it. Vic is protective but you usually see it the most when her partners are in physical danger--Hiro’s more of the type to low-key worry about them on a daily basis, although given that he has to regularly stop Vic from eating random food she finds everywhere/has needed to literally tug her out of the road it’s not entirely unwarrented (to be fair, she’s not used to living in a big city--being brought up as a nomad.) Johnny is definitely protective of both of them-even if he doesn’t necessarily always say it.

10.) Do they prefer verbal or physical affection?

Hiro very much prefers physical affection. He doesn’t always know how to express affection in a super deep manner verbally. Flirting is one thing but genuine praise/compliments are a really good way to catch him off-guard/get him to flush. He usually gets really quiet/awkward, but also can’t deny he enjoys it. Vic is comfortable with both, but she thrives on verbal affirmations/affection--something Hiro has slowly been trying to apply in their relationship/as is Johnny.

11.) What are some songs that apply to their relationship, in-universe or otherwise?

Fortress by Queens of the Stone Age fits how Vic feels, but for the three of the them King and Lionheart by Of Monsters and Men fits them really well.

12.) What kind of nicknames do they call each other?

Hiro usually just calls Vic “V” in public. He’s not one to use affectionate nicknames in public. In private though, he’ll call her “beautiful”. Vic is more open about them and calls Hiro her “little prince”/ “sweetheart”. It never fails to get him to turn pink and she tries not to do it in public. He gets really flustered. He’s not usually one for petnames from casual people, especially because he feels like they come off as too intimate and he typically tries to keep those relationships casual.

Hi :-) I just wanted to say I’m really glad you’re back! I’ve always been a secret admirer of your headcanons as they’re not only very well written, but in my opinion prove that you have a really good understanding of the characters! Two requests (out of which you can either do both or whichever you like best :-D): 1.) What character traits would the Blitzkrieg Boys look for in a girlfriend? 2.) How would they behave watching Disney movies and what would be their favorite Disney movie(s)?

MOD TALKS: EFHWIUEHFE THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Really, those words keep me so motivated and I’m so happy to write for such kind and beautiful souls like you. Thanks for giving me so many exciting things to write about. If it’s cool, I’m going to answer the first prompt, just because I wrote a lot for it already, but I’m totally down to answer the second prompt in another ask! :)

WHAT CHARACTER TRAITS DO THE BLITZKRIEG BOYS LOOK FOR IN A GIRLFRIEND?

TALA: The number one thing he looks for is patience. He needs someone that will allow him to open up at his own pace, but also… Because love is, quite literally, a newfound feeling for him, he needs someone that will give him enough time to really understand what that feeling entails and how that feeling should be expressed. He doesn’t want someone to constantly nag him to take him somewhere or to fight with him about his inability to say more about himself. When he’s confronted like that, it only encourages him to continue shutting them out. He is very cautious and he thinks that trust is something that is built rather than instantly extended.

In addition, he looks for loyalty. Loyalty doesn’t just mean being exclusive with him (although he prefers exclusivity entirely), it means sticking with him through thick and thin. It means being there, even when it’s hard for both parties. It means being persistent, never letting go, and being willing to work through hard times. He knows he’s not the easiest person to get along with or work with, but when he’s dedicated to someone, he tries and he expects them to really try too.

He prefers really chill or calm souls. He doesn’t like when people ask him too many questions, or when they’re loud, or when they’re obnoxious. Yes, he tolerates Bryan and Tyson, but they have different impacts on his life and play drastically different roles. He doesn’t mind being with someone that encourages him to step out of his comfort zone, but he prefers if that encouragement isn’t…eccentric. It’s totally possible to be chill, but also outgoing. You don’t have to be quiet for him to be into you. Rather, he just prefers not to deal with a lot of constant high energy. He prefers to be around someone who’s considerate of his emotional and mental availability. He struggles to meet high energy folks at the level they’re at, unless he gets to be snarky or sarcastic.

He likes wise and outspoken personalities. What I mean by this, is he likes people who speak with a purpose. He likes people who sound knowledgeable and give advice (good advice, btw) when it’s needed and called upon. He likes people who are ready to call others out on their bullshit, even his own. Although he doesn’t like to be confronted with his faults, someone who speaks wisely will structure the statement in such a way that it doesn’t feel like an attack. He likes someone who contributes to a conversation in a meaningful manner. He’s never been the type for mindless chatter, but if someone asks him a very insightful question, he’ll feel more inclined to entertain them with a few words.

BRYAN: He looks for someone with an open mind and free spirit. Unlike his teammates, Bryan likes to try new things (and likes to try them with new people). He doesn’t like sitting still and doesn’t mind doing something that might make him uncomfortable. He likes breaking out of his shell. Granted, this is probably because he needs constant distractions to avoid confronting his internalized trauma, but at least he’s getting himself out there. Bryan has always done these “new things” alone, but he’d love to have someone by his side that’s willing to be just as weird, crazy, dangerous, and reckless with him. He looks for someone that just wants to have a good time. In other words, he needs someone to be his escape.

Bryan also likes someone that’s responsible. “But J… Didn’t you just say he likes someone that’s reckless with him?” Yes, BUT… He knows that being reckless isn’t always good for him. Problem is, he’s not very good at stopping himself. His conscious is almost nonexistent, and he needs a person to really put him in his place. It’s not that he’s looking for someone to constantly scold him. Rather, he needs someone to tell him why something isn’t a good idea, what bad things will happen, and what he has to lose. Responsibility, and the fact that it’s exuded onto him, tells him that person is genuinely concerned for him. Aside from his boys, he’s never really had someone care about him. So… The fact that his partner does just really hits him hard and will instantly make him change his mind about doing something stupid.

He looks for someone that’s brave. Let’s not confuse this with recklessness. When thinking about the word “brave” to him, brave is someone that’s willing to endure all the trials and trauma that unfortunately follows him. Sometimes, things just happen to him that he didn’t ask for. Sometimes, he cracks and finds unhealthy ways of coping, because he’s terrified and doesn’t know how to deal with certain issues head on. He’s looking for someone who isn’t scared…or, if they are, they don’t show it. When they’re brave during chaos, it means that it’s totally possible for him to overcome something. He just needs that hope. He wants to find it in his partner.

He likes resilience. Resilience doesn’t necessarily mean that someone is tough all the time. It’s okay to crack or break. Rather, he needs someone that can endure his stupid jokes and the occasional dumb (and potentially hurtful) comments he extends. He has no idea when he’s being an idiot. To be resilient means they don’t crack before him. They put him in his place when he needs to know that he’s being foolish. He likes seeing someone who’s strong. He doesn’t mind being with someone who can kick his own ass too. But if they were constantly fragile… He has no idea how to fix it. He just looks for someone who can take a hit and hit back even harder.

SPENCER: He looks for someone that’s youthful or cheerful. Despite his stoic and tough exterior, Spencer yearns for softness. He yearns for something gentle. He yearns for something that pushes through pain. He looks for someone that isn’t afraid to laugh or smile. In fact, he loves loud laughs the most, because it shows that the person isn’t afraid to be happy. He likes people who unashamedly express their emotions, because he doesn’t have to try to decipher them or read them. Cheerful doesn’t have to mean blindly happy. Who the fuck is happy all the time? Impossible. Rather, he just loves people who allow him to get a glimpse of their unfiltered elation. He wants to be part of that. He wants to ignite that. He wants to be the reason someone smiles. He’s a sucker for someone’s smile. It’s probably the first thing he falls for.

He loves high energy. His friends have always been reserved with their emotions. Even Bryan. Bryan just hides his true self all the time. But anyway. High energy folks aren’t afraid to let him know how they feel. They always want him involved, they’re always willing to be around him, they’re always down to talk, and he likes how warm and inviting they are. He has no qualms with being pushed out of his comfort zone. In fact, he thinks it’s kind of hot when someone, especially a woman, takes charge and wants him to do something specific. Additionally, he likes people who are spontaneous and adventurous, because it just gives him more stuff to look forward to. Like they constantly surprise him.

He likes someone who knows what they want and aren’t afraid to take control. Spencer can be rather passive. He does take control when he feels like his friends are in danger, but for the most part, he prefers if someone else has a plan. When it comes to love, Spencer is a people pleaser. He might not know exactly what he’s doing, but he tries. He likes someone who will flat-out tell him what he should do to make them feel good and he’ll execute that desire so swiftly and so well. In addition, he appreciates the confidence that comes with being able to take control. He likes someone who’s able to come up with a plan on the spot and can tell it like it is. He doesn’t really like vagueness or someone who’s indecisive. He’s very much attracted to fast-paced people and fast-paced environments.

Spencer also looks for someone who’s willing to grow. Most people are set in their ways, but sometimes…they’re in need of further developing aspects of themselves. Spencer is the type that’s mostly down for anything and he expects his partner to be too. He knows he’s not perfect, he knows he has his own healing to do, but he wants someone to be able to grow with him. He looks for someone that actually listens to the advice he gives and actually follows it. He looks for someone with great communication and active listening skills. Someone who responds to what he says without rolling their eyes. He needs someone who takes the relationship seriously. Sure, he appreciates a playful personality, but sometimes they need to really embrace those serious moments.

IVAN: He’s attracted to spitfire personalities. I mean, he really loves someone who’s outgoing, passionate, exciting, playful, and eccentric. He also appreciates anyone that’s witty, sarcastic, and can roll with the punches. Aside from Bryan, Ivan probably has the most personality in the group. He needs someone he can exchange energies with, someone who can respond quick to his snarky retorts, someone who can put him in his place, and someone who can make him laugh in the process. He really likes someone with a lot of life, because god knows that his time is absent of it.

He looks for someone who’s supportive. When Ivan got replaced by Kai, he truly believed he was expendable. That moment solidified how he thought about himself. He looks for someone that’ll tell him otherwise. Supportive people won’t always confirm the thoughts in your head. He needs someone that will be there for him. Sometimes, he’s caught up in situations that he THINKS he has control over and sometimes he thinks he’s responding appropriately when really…he’s feeding into an unhealthy perception of himself. He looks for someone that will snap him out of his self-deprecation, someone who realizes that things aren’t right and is willing to be there to help him work through that.

In addition, he looks for someone that’s loyal. Ivan himself is as loyal as they come. He welcomed back his team with open arms when they returned. He needs someone who is willing to be exclusive with him and see him as their one and only. He doesn’t want to be seen as expendable anymore. He wants someone who validates him and reminds him that he’s someone worth hanging on to. To be fair, he’s pretty tough and he doesn’t always take things personally, but once he comes across someone that’s like, “hey… you’re great and I don’t think people tell you that enough” it will blow his fucking mind.

He looks for people that are engaging and involved. Ivan doesn’t like to sit still. He likes people who want to include him in their shenanigans. Hell, he even likes it when people simply invite him to go to the store with them. He likes someone who wants him to hang out with them or their friends. He likes someone who constantly wants to go somewhere to try something new or exciting. He likes someone who’s a real social butterfly, someone who isn’t afraid to meet new people and to befriend them. He likes someone who’s active in friendships, relationships, in the community, in their family… To him, that kind of personality lets him know that the person is really down to create connections, maintain them, and make them enjoyable.

KAI: Like Tala, he looks for someone that’s patient. Kai doesn’t open up to just about anyone… In addition, he really hates it when people try to tell him what to do. He doesn’t like standards, he doesn’t like expectations, and he doesn’t like to feel forced. He gets that people want him around or want him to be involved, but that only causes him to feel annoyed and overwhelmed. He constantly needs space from people and he needs someone that understands that. It’s not that Kai wants to be completely closed off. Rather, he needs someone that understands that he does things at his own pace. He needs time to really analyze someone in order to be mindful of their intentions. He looks for someone who lets him be himself and someone who doesn’t interfere with his goals.

Kai looks for someone who’s honest. He doesn’t like someone who hides their true feelings, intentions, or self. He doesn’t really like people-pleasers, because they’re only doing what they do for someone else’s approval. He likes someone who isn’t afraid to say, “hey, what you said was fucked up” or “hey, that doesn’t sound like a good idea - here’s why.” Honesty isn’t the same as forcing an opinion. He actually doesn’t mind hearing what others have to say, so long as they aren’t forcing him to abide by the same philosophy. When someone is honest, it just means he doesn’t always have to be on his toes when he’s around them. If someone is honest, he’s way more relaxed and doesn’t have to wonder if there’s a hidden meaning behind some of their actions.

He prefers people who can bite back. Although Kai has a very dominant personality, he doesn’t really like when people just…give in to his commands or expectations. Although he appears annoyed when people question him or doubt him, he likes the challenge. Although blatant disrespect is a turn off, he likes people who motivate him to “work for it” or give him some perspective. He also finds it incredibly sexy when someone is able to by witty or quick with their responses. Try not to confuse wit with insults. He looks for someone who’s able to convey a sense of confidence and intelligence with their remarks. Why? Well. He likes being able to bring others down a peg, but not so easily.

He looks for someone who doesn’t give up. It’s okay to be hard on yourself - we all are, but it’s also possible to pick yourself back up. He’s attracted to people who know what they want and work hard to get it. He’s basically the same way and likes seeing people who are just as driven. When people have their own goals, they’re less inclined to interfere with his own. Additionally, if someone isn’t willing to give up on their goals, then that also means they aren’t willing to give up on him. He knows he’s got his own shit to work through and that it’s going to take time. He also knows he needs time to open up. He needs someone around that won’t give up on him, even when he’s at his lowest. Determination like that is sometimes really hard to come by.

Hey Anon! I really enjoyed doing this request. A little bit of trivia about M. Junko: I recently learned I was half Jewish, so I’ve really been trying to study Jewish culture and connect with my roots, so writing headcanons about Hanukkah really made my night! Speaking of which, happy second night of Hanukkah!

NDRV3 Boys celebrating Hanukkah with S/O!

Shuichi Saihara

Truthfully, he doesn’t know too much about Hanukkah. Or winter holidays in general. His aunt and uncle were always too busy to really put on any festivities. But now that he’s able to have a celebration with you, he’s really excited.

He researches everything. From traditional foods, to how to light the Menorah, to WHERE you place the Menorah, to games. He wants this celebration to be perfect.

He’ll help you out with the food and decorating, and whatever else you ask him to do. He’s just happy to be included.

Also will without a doubt get you a gift on all eight nights. Nothing too big since he isn’t made of money, but he isn’t the type to just throw a pair of socks at you and call it good.

All and all Shuichi enjoys himself immensely, and after that week, he declares Hanukkah his new favorite holiday.

Kokichi Ouma

You can bet your ass this will be one hell of a celebration. Somehow, Kokichi did have some Hanukkah knowledge prior to getting together with you, and he’s gonna use it to give you the best week of your life.

He invites all of DICE over on the fifth night to have a huge party. There’s tons of food, tons of gifts, a few people are in the corner screaming at each other for cheating at Dreidel - which is incredible, considering there’s no logical way to cheat at that game - and throwing chocolate coins at each other. And the curtains caught on fire briefly.

Things don’t get too out of hand, though. Kokichi still wants this to be a special night for you, and everything quiets down once it’s time to light the candles. Speaking of which, he is absolutely enamored with you when you say the blessing. He’s in awe at how perfect your Hebrew is.

Doesn’t skimp on presents in the slightest. Happy Hanukkah darling! Here’s a Nintendo Switch!

Kaito Momota

He doesn’t know jack shit about Hanukkah, but that won’t stop him. Truthfully, he can get a little over zealous when it comes to preparing something special for his S/O. He always ends up trying too hard and it becomes a mess, but you can still feel the heart behind it.

First, he got the wrong candle size, so you had to stick tinfoil in the candle holders to make him fit. Then he thought latkes were just flattened hashbrowns (which is fair, but still incorrect), and lastly he didn’t even know what a dreidel was and forgot what Google was, apparently.

But God, he was so excited to be celebrating such a sacred holiday with his favorite person in the world. You didn’t have the heart to tell him he messed up, so you decided to have a talk with him the following year to prepare in advance.

His presents are space related of course, I mean what else would you expect.

Rantaro Amami

Has the second most knowledge of Hanukkah out of everyone, second only to Shinguji. He’s been to Israel a few times, and other places with a higher population of Jewish people, He even participated in a celebration a couple of times.

His idea of a successful Hanukkah celebration is a lot more calm than most of the boys’. Maybe a small gathering on the fifth night, but for the most part, he wants this to be your thing.

Taro does the cooking. The way he makes the jelly-filled donuts is indescribable. He really should consider opening up a restaurant.

If his sisters are around, he’ll invite them over. His family is loaded, so expect the presents to be plentiful. But they all have a sense of humbleness to them. With every gift Rantaro gives you, you can always feel the love and thoughtfulness behind them.

K1-B0

Oh boy, he obsesses the most about it. He’s a robot, so he has access to all sorts of information, including the Festival of Lights.

He can’t eat, but for some reason the food is the thing he’s most concerned about. It’s like if you dislike the taste or texture of anything he’ll take it as a sign from God that he’s failed. He’s just... unique like that.

Kiibo doesn’t know everything, though. He’ll confidently state false information about Hanukkah to your relatives while they try to hide their snickers. It’s actually kind of hilarious.

He probably won’t get you a gift every night, and when he does they’re... weird, but come on, it’s Kiibo, your boyfriend, who loves you unconditionally, you gotta love it.

Gonta Gokuhara

The sweet boy, he’s just so excited to be spending time with you. He’ll want to know everything about the holiday, and I mean everything. Gonta will ask you why you celebrate Hanukkah, what you eat, what you wear. He’s just so fascinated.

He’s not the best cook in the world, but he’s not the worst either. He’ll want you to teach him how to make the traditional meals, if not anything else, then just because he wants to spend as much time with you as possible.

He gets along great with your family when they come over. Granted there’s more somewhat silly questions directed towards them, but it’s blatantly obvious how much he’s enjoying himself.

Like Kokichi, his favorite part is when you light the candles. The pretty candles, the way you recite the blessing so effortlessly, it’s all wonderful to him.

Korekiyo Shinguji

Unsurprisingly, his Hanukkah knowledge is nowhere near limited. If you so desire, he’ll leave most of the preparation to you since, well, it’s YOUR family’s tradition, not his. But if you request his help, Kiyo will do a fantastic job at setting everything up.

He knows exactly what food to make, exactly what blessings need to be recited - hell he probably even has a couple memorized - what kind of Menorah is needed, and basically everything you can think of.

Notably, he acts... a little less strange during the big celebration. Sure, he’s still his usual eccentric self, but you noticed that none of your family members seem to be afraid of him or anything. You could even say he’s being charismatic.

Maybe it’s because he’s trying extra hard to please you, maybe it’s because he’s genuinely enjoying himself. Who knows?

Ryoma Hoshi

This is one of the few times you’ll actually see him invested in something. He sees this is important to you, and the cultural aspects of the holiday are interesting to him, so Ryoma gets off his sorry ass for ten minutes and makes an effort to help you with your week.

Most of his time is spent running errands for you to grab ingredients or decorations, or a new dreidel since your cousin lost it last year. He’s fine with it though, despite having to stop for gas 3 times since you had him running through the entire town, he knows the ending result will be worth it.

On the last night, he even had a genuine smile on his face. He said he felt warm, something he never used to feel.

Ryoma also isn’t the most spontaneous when it comes to money, so his gifts will be fairly small, but he still wanted to get you something you’d like.

Spirit Committee Mod’s Christmas Gift to you

So back earlier this year when I first started this blog, one of the first ever requests I received was a question asking me “What were my 20 favorite Housamo characters?” At first I really didn’t have an answer since I was trying to reintroduce myself to the cast, but now that I’ve ingrained myself into the community a decent bit I can give you guys what I look for in a Housamo character as my thanks to all of you for just enjoying my content really. I look for what appeals to me visually (I’m the kinda writer that likes em big and beefy) but also well written. While not every character may or may not be the best written character since there’s so much reading I have to go back and do, but I am comfortable 20 characters I find to be downright great.

My Top 10~20 Housamo Characters

Honorable Mentions: Characters who do definitely qualify in the Top 20, but are just simply hard to place exactly in a definitive slot (lists like these are pretty hard to write for in hindsight…)

~Aegir: This is a character that’s very hard to place for a few different reasons. On one hand he’s easily one of the more aesthetically pleasing characters to me and I don’t just mean his body. There’s just always something about outfits in Housamo that just look amazing and I think Aegir’s is one of the better ones because they both show off his best assets and are pretty snazzy. His color scheme in most of his outfits tend to say hes an ocean man and I like you can just tell by looking at him given the whites and blues along with the gold he adorns himself with. Sort of what you’d expect from a treasure hunter such as himself. And yes he is a total heart throb alongside that I do have a bit of Gacha bias here and for the next one since I have all variants of them and some really good artwork. On the other hand, what do I know about him? Well, he’s a pretty boisterous fellow who loves to show off and is a big man. What else? Um…. Unfortunately Aegir’s events aren’t fully translated and his voice lines and bio do leave a bit to be desired for me at least. When it comes to writing him I have no issues, but when it comes to trying to visualize him as a character among the vast cast it just becomes hard to give him a good place beyond “He has a nice chest and bulge” most of the time. It’s not anything personal and my opinion of him may change after this Christmas event is over and translated by the Housamo Blogspot and GomTang is one of my favorite artists working with LifeWonders so he may get bumped up or off. As an additional upside I do like how his gameplay in both of his variants reflect his character, it’s a nice touch game designers often do.

~Takemaru: Yes, both 2019 Christmas boys. And yes, it’s because of their tiddies. I’m mostly kidding… But in all seriousness Takemaru is one of the better offensive supports in the game who’s one of the easier units to pull in the gacha, especially right now considering he has an alt on the banner so in theory he should be showing up more frequently as a 3star. But that’s just a theory. The thing with Takemaru I like beyond his design is the fact with how genuine sweet he is as a character. He’s rough in how he speaks but his personality is very sincere (for the most part from what I can gather) However he falls into the same trap as Aegir since I haven’t read the events he’s a part of just yet. Plus he is a crafter boy and you never say no to a Crafter.

~Kengo: One of two Summoners on this list. I have a bit more preference for Kengo over the other summoner that did make the list, but to be as fair as I can in my judgment I have to leave Kengo in the 11-20 pile. Visually he has all the check boxes that just draw me to a character initially and his personality is simple, but I like that he’s simple. Characters don’t always need to be complex and multi faceted to be engaging, plus I just kinda want someone who would encourage me to be more active and I feel a few characters alongside Kengo would do that, he’s a Chad and a bro. So why is he not in the inner circle for this list? It’s cuz the story treats him the worst. What do I mean? deep breath If you’ve read Chapter 3 of the main story then you should know the absolute mess it is. It tries to shove in as many characters as possible during this part of the story which, okay understandable since this is a gacha game but they forgot to give Kengo, you know one of the cover boys, a proper role in the story and it really feels LifeWonders thought that they could bank on Kengo’s Himbo status and just showing us the others. But I need sustenance. I need to read! He did because he has moments that could have been much more if they just shifted the focus back on Kengo for more than a few moments at a time and he sort of highlights a lot of my issues with the way the stories are told in this game but those are for another time.

~Arc: In my perspective, the antithesis to Kengo. Not to say I find Arc visually unappealing, but they aren’t for me the way other characters are though. As a character though Arc’s story is honestly one of the best stories has to offer and they actually have (pardon my pun) an arc. I won’t spoil too much of their story because it’s all pretty late into the game but you really do sympathize with Arc and begin to understand the larger narrative the game has. Plus a nice detail is that Arc’s voice lines change depending on the point of the story you’re in I guess? Or maybe it was a release thing I’m not too sure how you trigger one over the other but they get 2 sets of lines. And they actually integrate Arc into the story and revolving cast pretty well instead of casting them to the wayside for 80% of their story. I can’t go much deeper than that unfortunately. All I can say is read Chapter 7 and 8 but do know that they are some of the more darker and serious chapters in the game so far.

~Durga: The only Yoyogi girl who strives to be number one. Unfortunately she joined the wrong list and wound up in the runner up tier. But for starters Durga has one of my favorite voice actresses who plays a number of my favorite characters in anime and games so I’m glad LifeWonders are capable of getting such talented voice work. As a character I know what this character is mostly about and the event I haven’t really read yet is her initial one so when that gets an official TL I’ll read it to grow more understanding. But from what I have now I can safely put her as one of my favorites because her drive to be number one is inspiring to try your best and everyone should follow her example to some degree. I say that because she really does feel naturally flawed given her alleged age. I won’t spoil much of Dreamland but I will say how Durga’s struggle is further amplified is totally understandable given her position in the group of athletes and her desire to always win and why she always pushes herself to be her best at any cost and it’s definitely something I can see someone doing (without as catastrophic a breakdown when it backfires and just learning what works best for her). As for why she’s not in the other category given my praise of her character is because I don’t have the full story much like with a few prior entries on the list. But when that event does get a TL at some point I do want to read it and finally have the full picture for her so I can rank her properly.

~Kyuma: I shall dub him my Kouhai because he is a first year. A lot of people don’t like Kowmei’s art, myself included, but overall his characters don’t really put me off that much since there’s only one in particular. Kyuma’s good though. He is a good, hardworking kouhai I’d enjoy being around given he seems the most levelheaded of his friends despite his age. Or maybe its because of his age? There’s no grand singular reason he’s on this part of the list. He just needs to be in more events and get an actual alt. That’s all.

~Zao: I wish he was introduced in a better event because he is one of the better characters released in year one. But good lord does his event drag you through the dirt with terrible battles and awful pacing. It’s unfortunate his whole story is dragged down because the game was still in an early spot when this event originally came out. Outdated gameplay aside I think Zao does best in setting the precedent for shop units when it comes to writing and design. I like his arc going from a stubborn mountain man to a more open and accepting person. However he has a similar issue with Kengo where he has to share his spotlight with characters of varying degrees but unlike Kengo the other characters who appear in this event are meant to compliment Zao rather than detract from him.

~Amatsumara: He’s the dad of the Crafters and is who makes the Crafters really feel like a family. Every member feels like they have a role in the Guild and you can really see how much Amatsumara values them. He just seems like the doting father type who gives you noogies and I can respect that. Seeing him interact with characters in Chapter 9 was also one of the more enjoyable aspects of that chapter. I won’t spoil it but it was pretty good.

For the final 2 they’re just characters who’s designs I like a lot and just need to do more research since this game has a lot of characters to try and find information on

Now for the Top 10 favorites, but even then placement can change depending on what LifeWonders plans to do with them down the line.

10. Gunzo: Kicking off this list is the rugby player himself. To start he’s a very dorky athlete. He isn’t the greatest at handling social situations and kind of a goofball when it comes down to it. But those are not bad things, in fact they’re what landed him on the list. His quirkiness is just plain adorable and I do enjoy the antics he and his classmates get into. Not only that but he’s a pretty laid back guy once you get to know him a bit better. It’s his lack of awareness that is his best strength, but worst weakness at times.

9. Kurogane: deep breath ANIKI~!!! Jokes aside Kurogane is the character that when I first saw, I was very disappointed he wasn’t playable. (Then GoGo happened and made me one happy person) and he’s voiced by the same guy who did Broly back in the day so that’s pretty awesome. Kurogane actually likes it a lot when you call him “Big Bro” and I would totally call him that once I found out he did because he’s so wholesome and goodwilled. Plus he does deserve some recognition as someone older since he is the youngest in his Guild. Not only that I can sort of relate to Kurogane’s desire at being an engineer since when I was still attending classes in college that was what I was studying as my major. I can’t quite match the same level of enthusiasm as Kurogane, I do see where his character does come from when tackling certain things, which is how he easily became one of my favorites.

8. Claude: You want a sugar daddy? Claude is probably your guy. So the leader of the Berserkers Guild is a great guy, most of the time. He has his moments where he can get carried away with his own desires rather than doing the correct thing, but honestly there’s something satisfying about a man just taking what he wants. That and well, getting a bit of a wake up call that you can’t just do all of that because you’re bored. His character quest is what really sold me on Claude as a character and something about it felt very real. A lot of it was very vague terminology and confirms Claude’s status as a bottom. Claude is also very intelligent and he’s always trying to make the best move that will benefit the most amount of people, whether or not its for his own interests usually. Also this wouldn’t be your mod if I didn’t mention how good he looks, especially his outfits. Bombom just really knows how to design clothes.

7. Moritaka: Arguably the face of the franchise right after Salomon. Moritaka, to my knowledge, is one of the most popular Housamo characters and to be frank I can see why he would hold that title. He’s just a lovable character with cute art. I really think I show my love for him in my Headcanons so I’ll keep it brief by saying he’s a really enjoyable character.

6. Maria: Our local Lesbian sister will help you find true love, I promise. Maria is another really popular and well-liked character and again I can totally see why. She’s cute as a button and really compassionate towards everyone she meets. And from what I’ve seen from her, Maria is very honest with herself going forward from a certain point which is so satisfying to see. I won’t spoil her entire arc even though her chapters have been out for a while just so you can experience it for yourself. She’s too precious for me to spoil. But her character growth aside, she’s a very compassionate and kind character even to those who aren’t the most kind in return and she even goes out of her way to try and relate to those characters despite the fact they might not make sense.

5. Hephaestus: Here we have my son, please buy him Legos instead of Mega Bloks or he’ll cry. I was a little hesitant with Hephaestus at first to be blunt. He seemed to be quite crude in certain places and really uncaring and a little cliché with his attitude. Plus he’s quite nasty to Talos, often times getting mad at Talos for simply doing what he was made to do. But Chapter 9 really put it into perspective. For spoilers I can’t say what made me turn around from wanting to look away from wanting to just hold him and protect him. All I can say is that he has been put through the wringer and just deserves to be happy.

4. Ashigara: Best bear, Volos stans don’t come for me. I explained it before but Ashigara is a character that tends to radiate “me” energy and I can totally see us being friends in real life. He’s the kind of guy who’d send you memes when your sad but he’d eat all your food, which is why you were sad in the first place. All about give and take.

3. Oniwaka: A bully BF uwu god have mercy but yes. Oniwaka was actually my first ever Housamo summon when I first began to play and on my most recent account (I’ve been on and off with the series until I started this blog and became more of a permanent player) he was my first 5star unit so it weirdly came full circle with him. His alternate skins are an absolute delight to behold and he is no slouch in the writing department after the slog that was Chapter 3. If anything he just got better with each appearance. He was rough around the edges, but seeing his softer sides just warms your heart.

2. Wakan Tanka: Touching down at silver place is my “Housamo Husbando”. Weird I know but let me explain. Wakan Tanka is a character I very much love and cherish, he is a really cute boy who just wants to do good by everyone he meets. He hates treating people especially different which is societal goals. However, he has a tendency to come off as a bit too perfect. While I really like him, he’s also feels more like an ideal than someone who can actually develop and grow. Wakan has basically achieved ascention. As for the top place on this list though…

1. Taurus Mask/Daisuke Ikusaba: Much like how Oniwaka was my first pull, Daisuke was my first Housamo crush. First and foremost his design is what I consider to be very tasteful. It’s both an incredibly attractive outfit, it’s also very appropriate and it isn’t too distracting. Second I love how LifeWonders leans into a character completely and just goes all out with a number of references to their lore or culture. Since Daisuke is a luchador inspired character its really cool to see his Summon Day be May 5th. Thirdly and finally, his writing as a character completely wins me over. He is a shy senior by day, but wrestling prodigy by night. Not only is that badass, but you have the perfect set up and the writer in me squeaks like a little fan girl that I am. Wrestling was never really my thing growing up so while I don’t have any fondness for it in particular, if I had seen Taurus Mask in action you would see me in the crowd shouting for him. Daisuke is just that amazing and why he’s my Number 1 favorite Housamo character.

Fandom Trades: Tips and Tricks

I’ve been running a secret santa for five years now, and a few people expressed interest in a sort of ‘guide’. It does take some elbow grease to get things up and running, but it’s very rewarding and gets easier as you go. Click the ‘read more’ for some stuff I’ve picked up over the years! It’s a bit general to try and cover anything, but if you have any questions, you can ask! (And if you’ve run one yourself, feel free to add on!)

FAQ: Something that’s a really good idea to have. Here’s the most important stuff on it that would probably be applicable to most trades:

-Basic summary of what the trade will be- some could be fic-only or art-only, or even specific-ship-only. Mine’s general to ‘all sonic sfw content’, but setting guidelines so people know what they’re getting into is a good idea so you won’t have to answer the same question over and over.

-Deadlines. Make them clear. Mine’s easy (Christmas Eve) but depending on what size the gift is expected to be, the time frame can be adjusted.

-Related, set up rules for if people need to drop out. It happens, so be prepared. (This is why I ask now if people are alright giving a second gift.)

-Any particular rules for your trade- is it sfw or is nsfw acceptable? (In that case, set age limits.) Are there ships that will or won’t be allowed? Is there a punishment for violating the rules or turning things in late, like not being allowed to participate in the trade again?

PROMOTION:

A promo image is a good idea! I’ve been using the same one for a few years that was put together by a friend no longer on tumblr, but images catch people’s eyes faster than a text dump. Make something that’s easy to understand but gets the point across, and the text below should have enough information without overwhelming the casual scroller.

Space paragraphs often to make it less intimidating. Include links to the FAQ, the sample entry, and the submit box right in the post, as well as a way to contact you- you want things to be as easy as possible for anyone interested. Here’s my promo post.

You also want to start promotion early- I start posting and reblogging my promo a full month before the entry deadline, to give as many people the chance to see it as possible. Any earlier, and they might not care- (who wants to see a Christmas trade post in October when you’re hyped for Halloween?) and any later and you might not get as many participants as you could have. A month-ish is a good time frame. (I also have a tag for the promo post, so people can blacklist it if they aren’t interested and don’t want to see it 15 times.)

SAMPLE ENTRIES:

Also something that’s good to have. Having a template for what you want entries to look like will make sorting easier for you. Here’s mine. It’s a good idea to scout around for other trades to find out what would work for you.

MAKING ASSIGNMENTS:

Next, setting up how to arrange who gets assigned to who. I personally use google spreadsheets. These are the categories I use, feel free to steal them: Username, medium (art, writing, amvs, ect), whether they’ll work with fan characters, what they’d like to receive, what they won’t do (one year I even added ‘if there’s anyone you won’t work with’ so if it’s a fandom with drama, that one might be good), who they’re gifting to, who they’re receiving from, if they’ve submitted their piece yet, if their piece is in the queue, and if they’re alright with doing backup.

I also had a category for if they’ve confirmed they’re still in once assignments were sent out. (Boy, was that one nerve-wracking during the whole tumblr purge debacle of last year- I didn’t know if anybody had just quit tumblr mid-month.)

You will run into people who only want two or three things nobody else wrote on their sheet. If you can’t find even one match, then just put them with someone who had a wide variety on theirs, or who doesn’t have anything on their ‘won’t do’ list. Trying to match with multiple likes is a better bet, though, so encouraging longer lists of what people want makes things easier for you in the long run!

I personally just went in a line- I picked one person, found who they would give a gift to, and then found who THAT person would give a gift to. Rinse and repeat down the list, and it’ll end with everyone paired. I ended up making a closed loop and then sorting the last 8 or so, which was fine. An easy way to check that you didn’t double-classify anyone is control-f and searching names. If their name pops up 3 times, you did it right.

SENDING OUT ASSIGNMENTS:

Just copy-pasting the part of the entry that includes the person’s name and their likes makes this way easier for you over trying to type them out individually. Ask for confirmation that people got their assignments so you don’t have to worry if they missed it.

HOW TO KEEP THINGS ORGANIZED:

My system is this: I’ve mentioned it before, but I utilize a combination of my spreadsheet and the queue function. Let’s say Sally’s making a gift for Jake, Jake’s making a gift for Taylor, and Taylor’s making a gift for Sally. Sally submits her piece of art for Jake. I mark that off on the sheet, so when Taylor submits the gift for Sally, that gift will go in the queue to be posted whenever the deadline is up because she turned hers in already.

This keeps people motivated to complete their parts of the trade, since they won’t get their gifts until they do. If someone drops out, tell the person making the gift for them- if you’re lucky, they can rework what they have for the person that the drop-out was supposed to make something for, but if not, bring in someone who didn’t mind making a second gift. Person making the gift for the dropout can choose if they want to continue making it or not- if it’s mostly done and not a fan-character, they can just post it on their own blog unrelated to the trade.

It’s also a good idea to have a ‘hub’ where things are posted. If it’s a fic trade, ao3 has a function specifically for this, but I’ve found having things submitted directly to you makes it a million times easier to keep track of who’s finished their pieces, as well as keeping things ‘secret’ until the big day. (People have gotten confused or excited and posted early before.)

If people want to post elsewhere after it’s posted on the main hub, set your own rules- I say it’s fine as long as it links back to the blog and links the giftee, particularly if it involves fancharacters. You make your own judgement.

BE PATIENT:

This is one that’s very important. Some people don’t check the FAQ, and some people are going to be new, asking questions that you swear you’ve answered before or thought would be obvious. They generally just want to know, so take a deep breath. They don’t know they’re the fifth person to ask that question. Answer politely, or steer them towards the FAQ. (Running the same event year after year, you run into this a lot- they’re just new, be nice!)

Don’t start an event that you expect to have plenty of people participating if you aren’t prepared to hear the same questions a couple of times. Things might get a little annoying- take a step back for a few minutes, cool off, but try to remain professional. You signed up for this. For me, it’s always worth it to see how happy people are about their gifts, but know yourself and your limits- running a themed week where people post art at their own pace is less hassle, so you could try that if you don’t feel up to organizing a full trade!

If you can have a friend to bounce things off of, that can help too, but don’t use them as just a dumping ground. Tumblr allows multiple ‘mods’ on a blogs, so splitting work can make things easier, particularly if it’s your first run doing something like this. I had a friend who helped me the first few years before leaving tumblr. Be sure you trust the person, though! They’ll be able to edit posts and delete submissions, so if any drama happens, beware. (This never happened to me, but it doesn’t hurt to be careful.)

TAGGING:

Add tags to the submission box. I don’t know why this took me four years to think of, but it saved me a lot of time last year. If it’s a trade that covers an entire fandom and dozens of ships, you can add the shipping tags as they come in, but adding the ten or so most popular character tags helps a lot. If it’s going to involve potentially triggering content, common trigger tags are a good idea too. (A Halloween trade might need this, for example, or one that involves nsfw content.)

PEOPLE TURNING THINGS IN LAST MINUTE:

It’s going to happen. I think one year I was panicking on the 23rd because I only had half the gifts, and all but one had been turned in by the time I went to bed on the 24th. People procrastinate- if you get in most of the gifts ahead of time, you can thank your lucky stars. Try not to stress over it, but feel free to post reminders in the week before/days leading up to the deadline. My family travels around the holidays a lot, and I managed to get everything queued up properly through airport and hotel wifi more than one year, so you’ll be just fine if you try and stay calm.

OTHER/GENERAL:

It’s absolutely worth it, in my opinion- I’ve been doing this for years for a reason. My favorite thing is knowing I’ve done something that made others happy. Going through all the excited responses Christmas morning is equal or above getting presents from my family, because I know it’s on some level because of me facilitating the trade in the first place. I hear over and over this is something people look forward to, and it genuinely warms my heart.

It might take a few years to get established, but if you find a niche (there was a blog called sonic secret santa, but it hadn’t been updated in years) you might be surprised how fast you can gather people! I like seeing people show up year after year, it’s how I know I’m doing something right.

It is definitely work, and there is stress involved, (especially if people drop out or don’t send in their gifts on time) but the benefits outweigh the negatives, I say. People are generally understanding if there’s a problem, as long as you make it known you’re working on it.

You have to commit to the responsibility if you do this- people who are making gifts are putting their trust in you that you’ll keep things organized and they’ll get something for the gift they’re giving. You can’t guarantee everything will run exactly as planned, but you can be as transparent as possible when you hit a bump- ‘I’m sorry, but your person said they’ll be late because they were having internet problems/personal life issues and is doing their best’ is going to get a lot better of a response than radio silence. Be sympathetic, but be firm on the rules if need be.

Summer Skeleton Snuggle and Surf!

Whoop whoop it’s past midnight here and you know what that means!!! Hey @miss-me-chispy, it’s your summer secret santa! You requested self-insert cuddling with UF Papyrus and after writing all 30 monstersummermash prompts I was in a really summery mood, so I decided they’d be cuddling on the beach. Then I was really enjoying writing the story, and the surfing thing came to mind, and I thought it’d be super cute, so I just added it in. Hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! Typically, there are two types of people when it comes to visiting the beach: people who go in the water, and people who don’t. Before this trip to California, you would’ve made an educated guess that Edge would be the former and Red would be the latter. That assumption was flipped on its head when you actually got there: maybe it was because Edge had you to cuddle with and Red had a human surfing instructor to go make goo goo eyes at. Maybe it was because Red gave little enough of a shit to put on swim trunks, whereas your boyfriend was still dressed like he walked straight out of a Hot Topic buy four get three free sale. But whatever the reason, it ended up that Edge stayed on the sand with his arms around you, and Red went splashing around in the shallows with a rental surfboard. You were sitting together on a beach towel in the shade, with him behind you, and you practically in his lap. He was hugging you from behind and, of course, still tall enough to see over your head. “He’s going to hurt himself,” you mused, holding on to one of the strong, boney arms Edge had wrapped around your waist. “Should we go save him?” “FROM WHAT? DROWNING?” Ah. It was easy to forget little things like the fact that skeleton monsters did not have the physiological need to breathe. “No. From embarrassment.” Edge wrapped his arms around you a little tighter, and you felt him nuzzle his nasal cavity against the top of your head. “I’M HAPPY HERE IN THE SUN WITH YOU.” It wasn’t often you got to hear him say that he was happy, however tangentially and despite the fact that he said it around you more than he did around anyone else. “HOWEVER… IF YOU ARE TRYING TO SAY THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO PLAY IN THE WATER. AND TAKE ME WITH YOU, SINCE I AM YOUR DATEMATE AND EVERYTHING IS BETTER WITH MY COMPANY. THEN ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS ASK!” You tilted your head back to look him in the eyes. “But you didn’t bring swim trunks.” “THIS CLOTHING WILL SUFFICE. IT IS BUILT TO WITHSTAND ALL SORTS OF PERILS!” he told you proudly, even though you knew full well that it had plenty of normal wear-and-tear. “I DON’T THINK THAT WATER IS ITS LIMIT.” “What about sand? I’m warning you. No matter what you’re wearing, no matter how secure you think your pants are, if you let the waves out there batter you around enough, you will get sand right up in your asscrack.” “I DON’T HAVE ONE.” “You will get sand right up in your pelvis.” “THAT’S ALRIGHT. IT’S ALREADY THERE.” He shifted uncomfortably and pulled a strange expression, earning a laugh from you. “I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN UP AND TRIED TO SHAKE IT OUT BUT I DIDN’T WANT TO LET GO OF YOU. AND BESIDES. THAT IS NOT A FLATTERING THING TO DO IN FRONT OF YOUR GIRLFRIEND.” “Oh, I don’t care.” You gave him a little nudge on his arm with the back of your hand. “I think we’re deep enough in love to be past the point of trying to act perfect around each other all the time. Don’t you?�� Oh, the L-word always hit him right in the soul. No matter how often it was spoken between you at this point, no matter how normal it was for the two of you to say it in reference to each other nowadays, it still always made him falter and realize all over again how… happy he was. He turned his face away from you a little, but not before you could catch his sharp teeth stretching into a bigger, more genuine smile, and the light blush flooding to his cheeks. “BUT WE ARE PERFECT. I WOULD ACCEPT NO LESS, EITHER FOR MYSELF OR FOR YOU!” His meaning was clear—he didn’t mean ‘perfect’ in a pure sense, but ‘perfect’ in that you were perfect for each other and to each other. He recognized your imperfections, and maybe even his own, but they were a part of the two of you and your love for each other, so it was a part of something that was overall, in his eyes, perfect. “… IN ANY CASE. DID YOU WANT TO GO OUT AND PLAY IN THE WATER?” You quirked an eyebrow at him. “Well, did you?” You’d gotten pretty good at reading between the lines, given how often Edge was a tsundere about everything down to what he wanted to have for dinner. And one of his favorite tactics was acting like you were the one who wanted something, in order to justify asking for it. He especially liked to do that when it was something he was afraid or otherwise unwilling to try alone. Maybe he wanted to try surfing with you. Red disappeared under the water with a splash so dramatic you both turned to look, and had to be pulled up by the arm by the surfing instructor. You felt each warm puff of breath as Edge chuckled against the side of your head. “MAYBE WE SHOULD AT LEAST SHOW MY BROTHER HOW IT’S DONE.” “We’re beginners, too. That’ll probably be us in a few minutes.” “NO WAY. WE WILL CONQUER THIS OCEAN LIKE ANY FOE!” All you could imagine was him trying to fight the water lapping at the shore. “DON’T LAUGH AT ME, CHISPY, MY DEAR. WE CAN CONQUER ANYTHING TOGETHER!” In one swift move, he both got to his feet and lifted you to your feet along with him. He lifted you from under your arms, briefly leaving your feet dangling over the ground, before he set you back down steady on your own two feet. “THAT IS WHY I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!” No matter how long it took him to recover from hearing that you loved him, he always remembered to tell you that he loved you back. The two of you jogged hand-in-hand out to the water’s edge, where the surfing instructor was just taking Red’s surfboard back from him. You just caught the tail end of their conversation. “You’ll get the hang of it if you keep trying.” She was using her customer service voice. “Like I said, you can come back for lessons during the week all summer. We’ve got some great instructors here for that. Twenty dollars a session.” “oof. thanks for the sales pitch, doll. i’m gonna go drink until i forget how much my ass hurts.” “AHEM!” Edge stepped forward. “BROTHER! ALLOW CHISPY AND ME TO SHOW YOU HOW IT IS DONE! PLEASE. SIT ON THE SAND AND OBSERVE.” The surfing instructor turned her attention to you, seeming to realize that you wanted a turn. “Oh, have you two been surfing before? We’re doing free surfboard rentals and basics but, like, if you’ve surfed a lot before, you can totally just use one of our surfboards for awhile without me giving you the rundown.” She was probably a local. She sounded like a Cali girl if you’d ever heard one. “NO! BUT WE WILL SHOW HIM HOW TO BE GOOD BEGINNERS AT IT!” Edge asserted confidently. “whatever ya say, boss.” Well, the pressure was on now. Red was sitting in the sand a few feet away with a grin that was just challenging you to fulfill Edge’s promise of an outstanding performance. You would try your best, but you were already anticipating screwing up hilariously. At least the three of you could all laugh about it if that happened. “Alriiight, so the first thing we’re gonna do here is figure out if you surf regular foot or goofy foot.” “I AM NOT GOOFY AND NEITHER ARE MY FEET!” Edge interjected. “REGULAR!” “Let her explain, sweetie,” you reminded him with a gentle touch on his arm. “… Right, so, regular foot means you feel more comfortable riding the board with your left foot forward. Like this.” She demonstrated, holding out her arms as if for balance even as the surfboard she was using was planted firmly on the sand for the demonstration. “And goofy foot means you feel more comfortable with your right foot forward, instead. Like this.” She switched feet, holding the same position for a moment before dropping her arms to her sides. “That’s all. Go ahead and try it on your boards. See what feels more natural for you. That’ll be the stance you use from now on.” You were glad to start out with some nice and easy setup. You didn’t feel quite ready to go out on the water yet. You tried each stance, a few times, before deciding that the ‘regular’ stance felt right to you. Your boyfriend, on the other hand, took a lot longer. He furrowed his brow, staring down at his feet as he switched back and forth between the positions. You were sure that if he was actually undecided about which felt more natural, he would’ve just picked regular. So that must mean… You cracked a big smile. “… You’re a goofy-foot, aren’t you, honey?” “I AM NOT!” “Are too.” “WELL! I PREFER TO STAND THIS WAY! BUT IT’S CERTIANLY NOT GOOFY!” He turned to the instructor. “THIS STANCE! IT NEEDS A NEW NAME! WHAT ABOUT… COOL FOOT?” “… Okay. Well, whichever foot you have in front right now, that’s the foot you’re gonna use when you pop up on the board out in the water. Popping up is what we’re gonna practice next, mkay? And it’s probably going to be what takes the most getting used to. It can take some practice to hold your balance right. So what you’re gonna do, is you’re gonna lie on your stomach on your surfboard and paddle out. Paddle for awhile. Paddle around ‘till you find a good place to try and catch a wave.” Again, she demonstrated for you, mimicking swimming movements above the sand. “And when you think you see a good wave to catch, you’re gonna put your hands on the board like you’re doing a push-up. Legs stretched out behind you. And then, real fast and smooth, push yourself up and plant your feet in the proper position. Front foot facing forward, back foot pointing to the side. Don’t end up on your knees on the board, you’ll probably fall over. Let’s practice popping up on land!” It felt silly and kind of embarrassing to do that, with all the strangers around, not to mention Red staring teasingly at the two of you. But it was certainly something that took a bit of practice. You kept finding your feet planted just slightly wrong, or it took you a bit longer than you would’ve liked to get to your feet from your position lying prone on your stomach. Still, you were better off than Edge. He might’ve been a bit too tall for the rental surfboard, despite being given the longest one they had in stock. He ended up, quite a few times, with one of his feet or the other on the sand instead of on the board. But eventually, you both felt like you got the hang of it. It helped him to look to you for a better (and prettier!) example. “Looking pretty good, guys!” The instructor clapped her hands together, particles of sand flying out like dust in the air. “Are we all ready to go out on the water?” Edge looked to you. Was he… nervous about this? You couldn’t blame him if he was. He’d only popped up correctly a couple of times, and it had been inconsistent. “… WE’RE GOING TOGETHER, RIGHT?” “Well, we can’t all ride the same wave, but we’ll all paddle out together, I’ll go first, and then you two can try and follow me, okay?” “… VERY WELL. STAY CLOSE, CHISPY.” God, he made it sound like some kind of suicide mission. The three of you paddled out into the water together, the surfing instructor taking the lead. You weren’t far behind her, but Edge started to lag behind the two of you—his skeletal hands weren’t as good at paddling through the water as your fleshy ones were—so you slowed down to match his speed. The instructor had to shout back at the two of you for you to hear her over the distance and the roaring of the waves. “We’ve got a good one coming in! Now watch me!” A sizeable wave approached, and she demonstrated the proper technique with the practiced grace of somebody who had likely been doing it since childhood. She hopped off her surfboard on the beach and stood proudly there to watch you, surfboard pulled upright at her side and tucked under her arm. Red looked impressed. One or the both of you were so going to fall on your face trying to replicate that. And you decided that if one of you was going to have to fall on your face first, it would be you. “I’ll take the next one,” you volunteered bravely. You ran through it all in your head—push-up position, pop up, left foot forward, knees off the board… “YES! SO BRAVE! GO FOR IT! I BELIEVE IN YOU!” Damn. This next big wave coming in looked even more daunting than the first, but maybe that was because you were looking at it with the knowledge that you were going to try to surf on it. You had that last-minute second of doubt, just as the wave was upon you, like you suddenly didn’t know what the hell you were doing. You pushed up, felt yourself wobble, and were sure you were going to tip right over… but you remembered your footing, steadied yourself, and the next thing you knew, you were gliding through the water on your surfboard! Honestly, you felt like a baby deer taking its first few steps in the world, knees locked in place, terrified you were still going to fall. But all three of your onlookers were cheering you on with utmost enthusiasm, all the way until you made it to the shore and stumbled on to the sand. “Beautiful form! Great work!” the instructor praised you. “Now let’s see how your… Boyfriend…?” “Boyfriend,” you confirmed breathlessly. Looking out at the water, you couldn’t miss him. He stuck out like a sore thumb in the best way possible. “Let’s see how your boyfriend does.” Looking at him now, you could already kind of tell things weren’t going to go great. He kept paddling out to catch a wave, then changing his mind and just letting the water rush past him. He even started to get into a push-up position, then changed his mind and flopped back down on to his stomach instead of surfing the wave. He needed encouragement, just like he gave you. “You can do it, babe!” you called out to him, hands cupped around your mouth in hope it would help carry your voice to him. “I believe in you!” “I KNOW! JUST WATCH!” That gave him just the confidence boost he needed. Maybe too much of a confidence boost. He decided to try and ride the first wave he saw. And he tried to get to his feet very quickly. And one of his feet stepped right off the side of the board, sending him splashing clumsily into the water. Red burst out laughing like it was the funniest damn thing he’d ever seen. You caught the surfing instructor covering her mouth and letting out a little peal of giggles, too. You were the one who splashed out into the water to go check on him. He was a tough guy, and you had no doubt he’d turn up alright. You were mostly just going out there to take care of his hurt ego, not anticipating any sort of physical injury. Of course, skeletons sank like a rock, too. So you waded out waist-deep in the water and still didn’t see him, even as the wave that tipped him washed over you. You didn’t see him. But the water threw him straight into you and sent both of you tumbling back up on to the beach. When the water receded again, it left the two of you there, you on your back and him clinging to you with his arms around your waist. Slowly, with water still leaking out of several different crevices in his skull, he looked up at you. “… CLEARLY I DID THAT ON PURPOSE.” “Clearly~” you teased him. “I DID! THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED. I… WANTED TO SEE YOU GET YOUR HAIR WET!” His expression softened for a moment, as did his voice. “… YOU LOOK LIKE A MERMAID WITH YOUR HAIR WET.” He tucked some of it behind your ear. It really hadn’t been necessary to tell the instructor he was your boyfriend. She could tell right now. Speaking of which, you didn’t want to get too heavy on the PDA. So you gave Edge a kiss of acknowledgement, then helped him to his feet. “Don’t worry about it. Most people wipe out on their first try,” the instructor reassured him with an easy-going laugh. “You can keep trying. Orrr come to one of our lessons during the week.” That sounded like fun. You felt like you could improve—like maybe you just got lucky on your first try. You would’ve been happy to sign up on the spot. It was too bad your flight back home was on Sunday. * * * “You’re extending the trip?” You stood behind Edge, watching him curiously as he revised the calendar he’d brought along. The arrow marked ‘VACATION’ that had initially ended on Sunday was now hastily extended to the following Friday. “YES. ONLY FOR A FEW DAYS, THOUGH. I DON’T WANT SANS GETTING TOO COMFORTABLE. HE MIGHT NEVER LEAVE.” You could guess what this was about. The beach trip was still fresh in your mind, and apparently, it was still fresh in his mind, too. You wrapped your arms around him from behind. “… Did you want to go back and try those surfing lessons?” you asked gently. “… IT MAY BE… FUN… TO ACTUALLY SURF PROPERLY LIKE I KNOW I CAN.” “I’ll go with you.” “GOOD. I ALREADY SIGNED US UP. JUST THE TWO OF US.” He turned around and hugged you back. It never got any less sweet, seeing how far Edge would go just to try and look cool in front of you and impress you. You could never quite find the words to tell him that you loved him just as much even when he wasn’t trying.

The Gist of It (aka. TLDR)

‘Stan and Kyle go through a whole lot of shit during their last couple years of high school; with side-characters and sub-plots galore. Honestly dudes, it’s hard to summarize this one since it’s just so jam packed with all kinds of everything. This askblog, maybe more than anything else I’ve read, really does encapsulate that whole ‘something for everyone’ feeling. Just trust me my dudes, ships galore, on-point writing, and gorgeous art. Go go.”

Also putting this before the page break: I know, it’s technically not a Cryde work, but I guarantee, there’s more content between those two in there than in most exclusively cryde-centric things. For a bit of trivia, it was this blog that got me into Cryde as a ship to begin with. So c’mon below, and I’ll try and reassure you…

Also also: Fair warning, this rec’ll be long af. I’m a little obsessed. So, get yourself a drink or something?

Storytelling

So like I said in the gist, the premise is fairly simple from the outset; Stan and Kyle start up an askblog, and your usual mix of hilarity, drama and ‘will-they, wont-they’ romance ensues. Now I had read askblogs before this one, and generally found them a lot of fun, but holy shit− from the get-go dudes, from the absolute start, this one had its hooks in me like nothing else has ever quite managed before or since. I’d originally just come across it after seeing some of the Craig/Clyde panels on some google search one weekend; then before I knew it, it was Monday morning and I’d read the whole blog front to back, and was experiencing like, genuine feelings for the first time in a long while.

A lot of what snagged me was the writing, which I walked in totally not expecting to take my soul hostage the way it did. The dialogue I’ll talk about with the characters, but as far as the actual story elements were presented? It reads like a god damn mini-series, with actual self-contained story arcs, side-scenarios that mesh in with the A-plot and oh my sweet jesus, the world building in this thing… Seriously dudes, I normally try and stay more grounded in tropes and clever literary devices and what have you, but with this blog I have a lot of trouble not getting like, emotionally invested.

I think that really is what makes this one so special; the atmosphere. There’s this underlying theme of determination and overcoming adversity (mirroring the writing of the blog itself, if you read the authors notes throughout− something I’d defiantly recommend) It’s the sort of writing that genuinely inspires people, deals with difficult subject matter and just generally gives off a positive vibe about soldering on and making good on big life changes, and that includes everyone, of every age and background.

And therein lies another giant strength, the variety. I would think it a very difficult task for someone to not find something they enjoy in this story; it’s a god damn carnival ride− not to spoil too much, but there’s a wash of different genres, different dynamics, different methods of storytelling and different perspectives on those stories. There’s music, there’s action, audience-participation, and enough backstory and little details that I’m still picking up new things even after having read through multiple times.

And lastly, oh boy− pitchforks and torches at the ready –there’s the content between Craig and Clyde. Now I’m not going to sugarcoat it, or really bother trying to hide the fact that these two don’t wind up in a happy relationship here. But please, and I really do mean this, don’t let that dissuade you. They have a very complicated relationship that keeps changing throughout, but their bond never goes away− so just because it isn’t all kisses and romance, I’d say it’s still one of the most endearing relationships I’ve seen written about the two (hence why I’m sticking to my guns on calling this a cryde-recommendation). Honestly, and I can say this from experience here, it gels with how boys like that can end up acting at that age. Despite everything, they still wind up being the biggest player in each other’s lives.

Characters

There is just characters bursting at the seams here, if you’re a fan of someone in the show, you can bet they’ll probably make an appearance somewhere along the line; or at least get a mention. Even Scott Malkinson gets namedropped, and that’s the first time I’ve seen him show up in something I’ve read in this fandom in like, forever.

Stan and Kyle are great picks for the leads, it feels easy experiencing the events unfold from their perspectives− honestly, it’s like watching a more grown up version of the TV-show for the most part, with Cartman and Kenny filling in with their usual contributions of being an asshole and a sweetheart respectively. (I really do love the way Cartman’s handled; he plays a tremendous bastard to be sure, but in a way you could imagine his childhood-self becoming- he makes a delightfully hammy and worryingly formidable antagonist) Also features pretty much my favorite version of Wendy I’ve come across; she’s the real MVP.

Craig’s low-key stealing scenes at first, before kicking things into high-gear and trying to take over the show throughout the run, to the point where he’s pretty much the focal point of all the drama several times. He’s a bit of a mess, but understandably so. Truthfully, all the characters have a unique take on them (all in keeping with how you’d imagine their canon counterparts at that age) and it’s a delight to learn what makes them all tick. I think with Craig especially, his views often radically differ from what you’re presented with by the other characters (including Stan and Kyle) and it’s never written in a way that forces you to side with any particular party as being ‘in the right’. Something I always find refreshing when it’s done as well as it’s done here. Everyone is presented with both strengths and faults, with actual long-running consequences for past actions, good and bad, and it’s up to you as the reader to make what you will out of it.

But then you’ve got the dialogue, and my god, it really takes the cake. There’s not much I can say apart from I legitimately thought some scenes and mannerisms must have been penned by Trey himself− the humor especially. Truly guys, you’re in for a treat. I would have loved to have asked the boys a question back in the day.

Style

Since I’ve gone long on the writing, I have to pretty much devote this section to the artwork because it’s fucking magic. Picture paints a thousand words and all that, and my god, does it ever do that here− the way things are scripted and tied in with the respective art? It makes for all sorts of amazing comedic timing, adds tenfold to any of the emotional scenes and just makes the story flow like a dream; I always have trouble putting it down once I get started.

Jovi’s just an incredibly talented artist, there is simply no escaping this fact. Each and every character has a unique design that fits their character and− I realize this one’s super subjective –to me, they all have such charm and personality in the way they’re drawn. It’s this masterfully presented cartoon-style with an emphasis on expressions, movement and color that I honestly just adore. Even at the very start of the blog, where the art is almost entirely different than it winds up looking at the finishing point two years later, I just love it− again with a South Park comparison, it reminds me of the watching the early cardboard-cutout style of the show compared to its newer 3D designs, both holding a special place in my heart in their own ways.

It floors me to think this was the author’s first major project. As mentioned above, I’d greatly recommend reading through the blog in its entirety, including all the commentaries by the mods, the funny tags, the side-art. One of the most inspiring things about this work is getting a sense of the love and dedication that was put into it over the years it was running; like watching the behind-the-scenes on some giant motion epic and coming to terms with how much effort went into producing what you’re seeing. It’s practically another story itself, and no less heartening than with the boys and their trials and tribulations. Seriously dude, so much kudos.

Favorite Things

The content variety. There’s just so much to love here, things being kept fresh and exciting throughout the super long run-time of the blog without feeling disjointed, on top of managing a satisfying conclusion. There’s a lot of fun to be had, no half-measures.

The character dynamics are a treat. With such a big cast, there’s all sorts of different personalities playing off each other, with dynamic relationships that all manage to evolve and grow. Definite love given to proper character arcs.

Inspiring themes and feel-good moments really do make this a gem to read when you’re looking for a pick me up. The messages about dealing with depression and addiction, managing your health and fitness and even studying and making smart choices− all of them really hit home.

Relationships of all different types; one’s that work out, one’s that don’t, some being easy, some being hard, long ones, short ones, mistakes and awkward surprises. Romance is well and truly covered, and I like that it doesn’t shy away with the stuff that just doesn’t end well.

Some of the best artwork you’ll come across (and so utterly fitting of the material), drawn to such a quality standard and on such a short time-frame that it kinda makes my head spin. I’m now at the point that when I think about the characters, these versions are the ones that appear in my head.

It’s honestly a little embarrassing for me to talk about AMAB, and god knows it’s pretty presumptuous, y’know? New guy recommends beloved artwork that already attracted thousands of followers back in its day. I’m going to guess this’ll end up being the rec that I’ll have needed to have written the least− since like, all of you have probably already devoured the blog long before you learned about it here.

But you know? If anything, I hope this ends up reconfirming what an excellent choice it was for you to have read it. And as always with these review things, if the author should read this, I hope you know just how much what you’ve made affected me and countless others; how good you deserve to feel, and how proud the people in your life must be of you for doing something so important and worthwhile.

As usual, next post’ll be spoilers and artwork− and I’m just going to bury my head in the sand so hard because my artwork is garbage compared, but we’ll have to muddle through. Join me there for second hand embarrassment, okay?

Justice League Panel

(part 8 of my messy thoughts and experiences with the con)

Henry was asked about Superman, honestly his answers were a big step up from the JL press tour. He talked about “Hope and joy” which is abit of a departure from Goof’s “hope and optimism.” But, he didn’t talk about previous movies as a mistake. When asked about Superman’s death he said it was supposed to give him a new lease on life, making him more secure and sure of himself. This seems to be what Zack always intended but of course it was rushed in Whedon’s cut, IDK if Henry actually thinks the movie handled it well, but lbr, based on what they did to his face alone it’s hard to believe he’d actually be happy with the JL movie.

Later on he was asked how playing Superman had changed him, and he talked about how Superman had made him a better person. How he no tries to look for the best in people and offer them a helping hand, because that’s what defines Superman-he’ll always offer a helping hand and he’ll keep offering it even to those who reject it. He also joked that he gives a lot more hugs now. It was the sort of sweet, genuine, heartfelt understanding of Superman that made us fall in love with him in the first place. It really settles beyond a shadow of a doubt that Henry’s Superman insight was genuine and that it was the studio that butchered it by forcing him to parrot a bunch of pr talking point apologies.

Beyond that, Whoa boy was this a mess of bad planning.

First some context: The panel was supposed to run from 3:00-3:45, the con was scheduled to end at 4:00. At 2:00 Henry was scheduled to begin VIP photos at 2:00 and general admission ones at 2:15, only the con had obviously sold far too many VIP photos to get them done in 15 minutes, and on top of that excessive security measures (you had to walk through a metal detector to get on line, even though we already went through one to get in the building!) meant that everything was backed up. REALLY backed up. As in, nobody got on stage for the JL panel until 3:45--ya know, when it was supposed to have ended.

Jason was the first one on stage. He had finished before Henry and Gal and had a flight to catch, and so he wanted to spend as much time with the fans as possible. So he took the stage alone, without even a moderator, and did a Q&A for about 5-10 minutes until the rest of the cast arrived and things started for real

Cirian Hinds had to leave for a flight too, and Ezra had already pulled out, so the panel was only Jason, Ray, Gal and Henry, with Jason leaving about 10-15 minutes before the panel ended. Honestly some of questions that get asked at these things are not the sort of topics that interest me (lots of “justice League vs the Avengers” type talk) so I can’t pretend to provide you with a summary of what was talked about. There were some very good questions to, especially about the characters’ relationships with their parents. Jason was the stand out cast member here, he knows how to rile up a con audience, he’s in his element here. Ray was the runner up, he’s a natural. Henry’s sense of humor works better in talk shows I think, but he still got the audience riled up a few times. Gal, tbh, mostly gets by on being sweet and playing the most popular character.

The JL failure and BTS drama never came up, but occasionally things got a little awkward and the moderator (who did a good job, imo) seemed to sense that it was better to focus on more than just the JL movie. He referred to the panel as a “JL victory tour” a couple times but it was awkward, the audience didn’t respond and he seemed to feel awkward saying it--he knew it was a lie. I’m not sure how many of the attendees pay attention to BO numbers or BTS shakeups, and they seemed unironically excited for the cast. But I swear, this is not my confirmation bias talking, the cast’s answers to questions about their characters in general were generally much more detailed/thought out/enthusiastic than questions about the JL movie specifically.

Not really any news on the future of the DCEU or Zack. Early on Jason was asked what his favorite moments as Aquaman were and he picked four scenes from JL, one of which was Aquaman’s introduction which he said he was sorry we didn’t get to see in full, which I took to mean he was talking about the introduction Zack shot, not Whedon’s finished one. Later on the mod asked about the lasso of truth and brought up the scene where Arthur sits on it. Jason said something like “it was funny” but I swear he said it in a sort of sarcastic tone, like he was trying to make his dislike known without actually saying anything bad. He has a naturally gruff voice so I might be projecting (I’m curious if anyone else has an opinion on that?). Ray insists the Cyborg solo is “in development” and Henry “hopes’ he gets to play Superman again, but nothing concrete there.

Depends on how well I know you. Unless you’re Paige I doubt it would go further than fade to black after smooches and whatnot. I’ve started writing the Porns™ to try and see if I like doing it/find it worthwhile, and while I enjoy the emotionally-connected ones, the stand of the night type ones aren’t fun to me. Still have to issue copies to Quality Control to determine their Hot Stuff merit.

TL;DR full blown prons are doubtful unless I’m really close friends with the mun first, else varies between No and fade-to-black depending on how well I know the mun.

HOW LARGE DOES THE AGE GAP HAVE TO BE TO MAKE IT UNCOMFORTABLE?

Under 18 is a Hell No, TES is uh...weird with people living hundreds of years and yet some only 80ish or w/e so I guess it depends on how old they seem? Mer, man. Can’t get a good bead on em agewise. I suppose if there’s like a huge gap like Mr. 800 years old shacking up with someone around 400 that would be weird to me. A hundred years gap wouldn’t be too bad assuming the younger is like...30s? 40s? At least. Mid 20s would be the lowest I’d go with something like that, and even then that’s pushing it. Two hundred gap would be ehh...and anything beyond that is sort of a ‘how is each individual case like’?

Modern AU (aka not TES Modern AU) I guess like 10 ish gap is the most? Not much higher than that because then you get weird things of like ‘oh I was a teenager when you were born’ stuff and that rubs me the wrong way.

ARE YOU SELECTIVE WHEN SHIPPING?

I mean I’m a bit selective with rping, like...I can’t up and ship with someone if I don’t know them. And yes, that has happened in the past and it made me not want to ship ever again because someone didn’t know/didn’t care that it’s not cool to write my character for me. And horribly OOC too. Yuck.

Honestly we’d have to be mutuals for a while before I’d be okay with shipping. Especially if it was J’hasi because LET ME TELL YOU THAT BOY FEEL TOO GOTDAMN MUCH FOR HIM GOTDAMN HEART. And yeah they have to have chemistry. And while most of my characters are more easygoing with the romance and boinking stuff, J’hasi is one of those that’s hard to get to that point because Trust Issues and whatnot. Anyone’s welcome to try, just know that we’d have to know each other and the muses in question would have to have some chemistry before anything progresses beyond verbal sparring.

HOW FAR DO STEAMY MOMENTS HAVE TO GO BEFORE THEY’RE CONSIDERED NS.FW?

Once someone goes beyond the belt, that’s the point that I’d say yeah that’s nsfwy-stuffs. Smooches and whatnot are safes, making out, etc, but once someone starts digging around in the other’s pants then yeah that’s a decent marker. I’d likely readmore it once it got beyond smooches for sake of people who don’t want to read two muses fooling around with each other but it wouldn’t get the NSFW tag until aforementioned marker.

WHO ARE OTHER MUSES YOU SHIP YOUR MUSE WITH?

I thought I was asked this before x_x UHHHHMMM usually it’s more of ‘who’s possible’, since I don’t set anything in stone until the characters meet in RP. I may misread a character and then the ship would be weird once I learn my mistake, so I tend to ask lots of questions of the person in question like ‘if x met y and they did z, how would they react?’ I do this with situations outside of shipping too because I LIKE LEARNING ABOUT CHARACTERS MANG.

Private ships are private ships, usually self-indulgent whatever to help me practice writing interpersonal communication and possibly sexytiems so I can learn what sounds natural because it’s a new type of writing for me, same as when I was first learning how to write actiony stuffs and MAJOR DOOM plots and whatever. The pronoun game kills me because 90% of it is gay. Maarzi and her gf Riheh is one of my fave ships because MAARZI IS SUCH A FUCKING TEASE AND THEN RIHEH CATCHES HER OFF-GUARD CONSTANTLY AND I LOVE THEM.

...I just realized I haven’t done any straight NSFW yet aside from that thread with Moj and Sham. I should...probably remedy that. Oops.

DOES ONE HAVE TO ASK TO SHIP WITH YOU?

I’m fine with your character feeling as they will, it’s your character, that’s how they do. It’s when you try to push it onto my character without asking for permission that I get irritated. Like by all means, a character can make passes at mine, flirt, w/e, that’s totally fine. It’s when someone thinks that because my muse reacts a certain way back that they think it’s canon then, which. No. You ask me.

Sometimes my characters flirt back because that’s just how they are. They might be trying to use your muse’s apparent interest to suit their needs. Muses may not explain their reasoning for acting x way, so it’s better to ask me to see if it’s genuine ‘ay let’s ship’ vs ‘my character is using yours to get out of a situation or for their own selfish gain’. Plus, if I don’t know you, a ship isn’t going to happen. I need to know the mun before I make any commitments.

HOW OFTEN DO YOU LIKE TO SHIP?

I’m with Dust!mod on this one, when it makes sense. I’m not romantically inclined irl, so it’s not like I Need it, it’s just something fun and new to play with, like when you get a new toy. You have lots of other toys, and that’s yet another you have at your disposal. Say that you think that the situation would be more exciting if Mr. Dinosaur came in and interrupted the tea party with some dire news from the front, or maybe he wants to confess that he loves Mr. Sheep and doesn’t want Mr. Sheep to elope with Tonka Truck, or that Tonka Truck was actually using Mr. Sheep for his billions in assets to make war on the Hot Wheels regime. It could be integral to the plot, or just give another facet to it, adding some extra drama to the Shit Going Down. The world is your oyster, friend.

ARE YOU MULTISHIP?

Nnnnnnah. I tried AU stuff with other fandoms, didn’t like, and I don’t need multiple verses of the same TES verse to handle. Not to mention like...why would you multiship when you can have polyamory? Way easier imo. Imagine the cuddlepiles. The only exception I have for this is Modern!TES but that’s more of ‘this is my self-indulgent paradise, I’ll make everyone hold hands if I want to’, and that’s...kinda my personal verse since I haven’t really talked about it much and I don’t think other people would be into it lmao

ARE YOU SHIP OBSESSED OR SHIP MORE-OR-LESS?

If it’s friends, lovers, rivals, sworn enemies, whatever relationship a muse has with another, it’s all good in my book. It’s great to have character-developing interactions no matter how it’s brought about, if your friend is concerned about x habit you have, or if you got the hots for some new friend on the block, or if you can’t fucking stand your new co-worker/peer, or someone decided that You Need To Die For X Reason And You Just Won’t Go Quietly.

I don’t hold any over the others in terms of importance, like sometimes I’m more in the mood for rival battles, sometimes I just want nerds to cuddle and read together. It just depends on what mood I’m in for at the moment.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SHIP IN YOUR CURRENT FANDOM?

Uhhhhhh I can’t think of any atm. I get a stupid grin on my face when me and @brothersofthedominion come up with ideas for our plots involving a giant golden boy and a srs golden girl, but my current favorite ship that I think about a lot is stuck in self-indulgent paradise world.

FINALLY, HOW DOES ONE SHIP WITH YOU?

I gotta know who tf you are first. Ask interactions are good for this, because then it unlocks the possibility of rps, which then once I have a good idea of who you are, then there’s a chance of shipping. Else it’s gonna end up being your muse tryna flirt with mine with little chance of getting anywhere other than flirting back or in J’hasi’s case, likely a big fat |:/
