People always ask me if I think it's a good idea to cast magic during Mercury retrograde. I definitely cast magic during Mercury retrogrades.

Protection magic is an obvious yes. Mercury does not impact that. Death work? 100 percent, Hermes was one of the only gods to enter the land of the dead and return to the upper world. A communication spell? Suuuuuure, if you're okay with it getting real weird. Retrogrades don't stop energy. They redirect it. They go at it from an unusual direction. (like the back of a Volkswagen)

Mercury is so changeable that trying to define their energy is challenging anyway. Your spell will manifest differently than when the planet is in direct motion.

That might even be the result that you are looking for. (if you've tried it all and nothing is working, maybe work with a retrograde, ya know?)

If you're a control freak, tho. Then nah...maybe just wait.

My Favorite Moment With: Lord Hermes

I had to face it. My 2006 Ford Fushion was on her last leg and I was going to need a reliable car for my new job. I was going to be driving children around and I doubted they would be comforted by the dulcet sound of squealing break or soothing rattling of the frame. I didn’t have long either; I started with my first client tomorrow. I had been manifesting a reliable car with Hermes, but I had no idea where to actually start looking for one. Then my grandma called me.

“I saw a Retrograde in the back of the used car lot,” she told me. “You should call them up and see what work it needs.” That made my anxiety skyrocket. I had never done something so adult-like, being only a couple months into my twenties. On top of that, speaking on the phone was never my strong suit. But I sat with Hermes and He eased my anxiety. I grabbed His crystals that aid me in speaking and did what I thought I couldn’t do.

I drove to the car lot.

The guy came out before I even parked, fresh pressed button down and too wide smile, and asked what I was looking for. I told him I needed a reliable car on the cheaper side. He showed me a few options and I realized cars were a lot more expensive than I thought. My hopes were fading.

“Well, there’s one more I could show you, it’s the cheapest one in our inventory right now.” He walked me to the back corner of the lot where a bright white Chevy Equinox sat, bearing that years inspection sticker. “It’s ready to go off the lot. You could take it home today if you’re interested.”

He threw me the keys and I got in for a test drive. The car sat up much higher than my little Ford, and had all sorts of buttons and levers and a screen where a CD slot should be. Ten years newer than my old car; I felt like I was driving a spaceship. She drove smoothly and couldn’t help but smile at the thought of taking her home. 

“What do you think Hermes?” I looked down at the digital speedometer that read 22. For me twos are confirmation numbers, so I knew this was the right car. 

I pulled back into the lot and called my grandmother, telling her I was buying a car. “Don’t sign anything until I get there,” she told me. I promised I wouldn’t.

After a short bout of haggling, we settled on a price and I began to sign. I gave the dealer my down payment on my fifth check ever and I saw doubt in his eyes that it would clear. My grandma and I brought my car home and I made calls to different family members to tell them about my day.

“I didn’t realize you were looking at cars today?” My mom questioned.

“I didn’t either until I was there.” I told her.

The next morning I drove my new car to my new job, smiling and thanking Hermes the whole way.

And that’s my favorite moment with Hermes!
