Okay new Simon Riley AU but i need everyone to stick TF with me here

Imagine Retired!Simon. his served for decades, in that time he meets reader, gets married, had kids, ect, ect, ect.

After he retires, his completely lost and out of his element. he cant work anymore due to his chronic back pain from year of service and integrating back into society permanently turns out is a lot harder then he originally anticipated.

he starts getting really, really depressed. Days start blending into each other and his three sons start to notice their dads is doing it really tough.

SOOOO they decided to make a reddit account for him. they make him join a bunch on military sub-reddits, maybe askreddit and things alike just so he can have something to do that isn't watching the football all day

he actually turns our to really, really like it. he can post all about this crazy military carrier, maybe even a little about this childhood (which he feels comfortable with because its all anonymous) and maybe even shares a little about his wife (reader) and three boys.

i can imagine after a while he starts gaining A LOT of popularity because holy shit his stories are so interesting and his lived such a crazy and inspiring life.

it becomes his way to connect with people that aren't just his wife and kids and he starts getting so much support from other people it really starts to boost his mood again.

i also imagine people start asking for dating advice and stuff from him because his always boasting about reader on his reddit. he kinda becomes an internet dad in some way 😭😭😭😭 like people genuinely trust him with their LIVES and i'm imaging some of his response are so fucking funny 😭😭😭😭😭

Maybe take it a step further and his sons create a youtube channel for him that he can make videos about this interests such as guns, car repairs, motorbikes, ect and the internet EATS THAT UP AS WELL bc absolutely massive hot ex SAS DILF that is obsessed with his wife and kids wearing a skin tight black tshirt and a balaclava while talking about this interests 😭😭 everyone loves him sm

like imagine his boys showing him tiktok edits of him and poor Si is so confused bc why is he watching himself get thirst trapped over on some strange app he had never heard of before 😭😭😭😭😭😭 his like 50 leave him ALONEEEEE

if this goes forward i plan to write a big chuck of it in a reddit sort of format almost like you were scrolling through the app and seeing him post. Readers would be Si's wife, so even though you would be reading the text in the third person, every time Si would mention his wife, he would be referring to you if that makes sense???????

i want you to know i just finished reading tangotek evil incorporated and i could NOT STOP LAUGHING like every other paragraph. first off you're very good at quality writing, in terms of like, sentence structure and everything, but also your writing is very compelling! you're very good at conveying tone and mood in your story. the story was hilarious, but still emotionally satisfying. if anything, the humor added to the emotion of the story! very masterfully done. also your worldbuilding? the little lore hints? 👀 i'm soooo invested. i love LOVE your characterization. this is also mastery in sense of it being a FANfiction, because like... tango having fire powers is just assumed because of the fandom. we go into this assuming "oh, it's tango in a superpower au, where he's called dr. blaze. he has fire powers" so the reveal to the other characters - especially done in the "uh, duh?" way is PERFECT because we as the audience feel the SAME WAY, like uh, duh? but we also get to laugh because... we technically had no reason to believe that! absolutely fantastic. perfect payoff. i could ramble on and on about more details but i have an appointment i need to get ready for so just take this little love letter for now haha

I am getting so emotional over this ask THANK YOU SO MUCH, especially for coming on tumblr just to send this to me <3<3<3 I don’t write too much fanfic, especially because I haven’t completed a written work, fic or original, in SO long. Like my last AO3 upload was a 1k fic back in 2020, and since then, the little creative writing I’ve done has just sitting unfinished in my folders.

So in the beginning I was really worried because I was so rusty!! Not to mention, I’ve never written something this long before either, and when the words kept piling up, I thought omg can I even keep a story together for this long?? Like oh no, I’m going to post this and realize I’m washed-up Etho style ajkdsfh. And of course, I’m the person most aware of the shortcomings of the fic (as is the nature of creating things unfortunately lol)

I've absolutely been loving hearing all the details and scenes people liked, but specifically coming here to say you think the quality and craft of the writing are strong, and praising the parts I take pride in means so so so very much to me. I have been brainstorming soooo much for this #Spidersona thing I have been doing research and working out character arcs and designs and back stories with friends. I really want music to have a major roll in this. I’m thinking I could create a playlist and mess around with those Spotify codes to create a code in the book each person could scan and that song could play as they read through the next couple of panels.

I think I’m mainly posting about this to record it. I’ve never felt this was about a project or idea and I really think I could flush this out into something tangible. I technically have all of the knowledge and skill to work through this and create a physical copy of this graphic novel/idk “interactive” multimedia experience lmao.

Anywho, if anyone happens to see this please drop some songs/playlists for inspiration below. Go obscure, I’m talking like 3 weird recordings on YouTube from a German club obscure, but also I don’t mind the classics (I do plan to have a badass helicopter scene involving all of these mutant freedom fighters to #CCR .)

If anyone bothers to read this far hello! Welcome to this virtual project log. I have a tendency to ramble when I’m in a creative mood so after I have that time I like to sit back and reflect on what I’ve learned and write it all down and share it looking for comments questions and ideas. So I hope you like it!

The first video is the amount of pages so far, (the post right before this) I am planning on trying to digitize and rewrite the first “Issue” as a readable post on here so I’m gonna get started on that’s soon. I’m taking a lot of inspirations from Zine culture and alternative comics, body horror ideas from things like the Fly and Johnny the Homocidal maniac, all set to a soundtrack built off of the foundations of rock and the oddity’s of today. The color palate is as if the album cover for the Mountains Goats’ “Goths” came to life, with a formatting similar to one of my favorite books “My favorite thing is monsters” (look it uppppp)

Also, HEY MR. MOUSE! I’m not trying to make money off this, I’m just trying to make some fun art and share it with the world. BUT if you wanna use my characters,hmu (I am delusional) we can work out a deal, have your People call my people.

In the next pictures are some character designs that are very very very very much inspired by my friends. They’re strange enough that unless you know me by name then you would never get it Lmao . . . But the characters are kinda cool. I really tried to use actual habits and adaptations that these animals have in real life compared to how the human body would have to accommodate for its ability to defy nature. Planning for this to be kinda gory. I’m excited.

What inspired KO/Sonnett? I mean, we've seen Soran around, but not very many good Fics of that pairing.

That you can blame on blak0tyler. She started writing them, and I was like “I don’t really ship it because I think they’re too similar, but I love your writing, so I’ll read” and then by the end of the fic I was like “Damn, I kinda see it now.” I think for me it’s partially just that I really enjoy writing both characters (or did anyway). It’s fun to write characters that on the surface can be snide or sarcastic or goofy, but then underneath can have more layers and provide other things to a fic.

Hi there musingpredeliction. I think it’s hard for me to have angsty ideas for Preath, and I’m likely to still have happy endings. I was just talking to someone last night about how real life can be hard and can suck so when I turn to fiction, I want it to at least be hopeful, to do things like make me believe in true love (though I am one of the lucky ones that has found that in real life), make me believe in happy endings and beautiful lives, make me believe in magic. If you’d like more angst, I suggest reading more of my Soran or So’hara

Favorite WOSO person IRL? Favorite one to write?

IRL? Idk. It’s hard to judge when I don’t actually know any in real life. Rose holds a special place in my heart. Tobin’s footwork is magic and her laid back, goofy personality makes me swoon. Christen is the epitome of beauty to me both physically and just who she is (or at least who she shows us publicly). I honestly love so many of them. Sonny, KO (yes, still, though I am disappointed and hope she learns and grows), Julie, CRYSTAL!! Moving on from the USWNT, I’m a big fan of Emily Menges (one of the league’s most underrated defenders), Simone Charley, Midge Purce, Jennifer Cujoe, Sarah Gorden, Yuki Nagasato, Casey Short, Ali Riley, the list goes on. Lol. And on a more international player level: Tiane Endler, Mapi Leon, Jenni Hermoso, Sam Kerr, Hayley Raso, (actually a bunch of the Aussies), Vivianne Miedema, and so many more.

Favorite one to write is a bit easier: Emily Sonnett.

is with fandom culture that she is having a problem or the preath fandom specifically? also, i really love her writing, for both preath and soran so i hope that, if she retires, she doesn't delete her work, please! and man, the kelley situation, it's been really hard for us readers and for the writers…

Here’s the thing: part of what I have a problem with about Kelley is the fandom’s response to her. I’m disappointed by her not kneeling. I think she really needs to have more hard conversations and examine why she stood apart from game one and hopefully learn and grow. I’m disappointed in the culture of cancelling someone because they don’t learn and grow on the timeline you see fit, though. That now people will write off entire stories because a CHARACTER version of Kelley (that the authors have created themselves, let’s not forget), is part of it even if those stories were begun before the tournament happened. That her kneeling or not discounts her skill on the field or her actions off the field that we’re unaware of. Again, we only see a part of them, what they publicly show us, and I am very disappointed that she didn’t show us her kneeling for the anthem beyond game one, but I’m also aware that she may be taking steps I have no idea about. I’m not trying to start a discourse, though I’m sure this will, but that’s part of my issue. And then there’s the trickiness that comes of being part of an RPS/RPF fandom, where there’s the distinction between fiction and reality, between what we’d like to be true and what we 100% know. I don’t mean to cast aspersions. I’m not here to judge you anymore than I’m here to judge them.

What brought you to Preathfics, or rather just the WOSO fanfic community in general?

I have always been a soccer fan. I played through high school. But fanfic you can thank lesbianrobinhood for. I was not looking for a new fandom, but she dragged me kicking and screaming anyway. It’s usually the way.

What pairing do you most enjoy writing for? Why?

Hmmm...That depends on what I’m in the mood for. I like writing Soran or So’Hara if I’m feeling angsty or Preath if I’m not, but really it’s more about the individual story than the pairing: which idea captures my attention most in a moment. That said, as I said in another answer: I love writing Sonny, so if I get to write her, even if she’s just the supporting friend to Preath, I am a happy person.

Do you have a favorite fic? Can you make a list like Preathfics did of your faves?

Oooh, ummm...I mean anything by Blake0tyler for sure. I could (and have) read her stuff over and over and over. I love, love, LOVE Here I Am (Signed, Sealed, Delivered), by freshtilapia. I really enjoy The Restaurant by little_oblivion for a great ensemble piece. The One Where Everyone Finds Out is another great one (and all of LittleDanvers’s stuff really). I love the imagery in Portrait of a Soccer Player on Fire by restlessvirtue. Entwined by superdupergust is very good (and hot). And for non-preath one of my faves is unbecomings (but their stuff is locked).

Do you have a favorite fic that you've written before?

Like of my own? Umm...The Time Between or Orlando is Only Home When It Has You, although so far I really like something that is as yet unpublished, and I’m enjoying the way folklore is turning out with JustCrushALot.

….Should I not? I have a hard time writing smut. I have to be in the right mindset and I haven’t been there in a while, but then I was, so I was like “Let me try” and it worked out.

Umm...that depends. If I get the inspiration, then yes, certainly, I wouldn’t rule it out. Also I have a bet right now with blake0tyler about something which should result in smut from one of us at least.

To the amazing author of Worth a Thousand words: the story is beautifully written, it's funny, sweet and different from other fics. I totally get the KO thing and I do agree with you on that one but know that it's a fantastic story. (Everything you write is)❤️

Thank you, I appreciate that. I mean, I think in all fandoms there is a toxic element, but as this is the only fandom I’m currently active in, it’s this one. And it’s not all of you, please don’t think that. I sort of explained in another ask.

I just love Heath17_KO5's stories and everything they contribute. Is there any chance the author will pursue Beacon of Light? No pressure or anything. I just thought it had such a sweet premise. And I am a sucker for a good storm story :D

Do you have a bookshelf? If so, just one or how many? I don’t, actually. I have the most books out of everyone in the family, but they’re all either lined up or stacked in random points in my room because of said lack of shelves. Currently, I have three groups of books strategically placed around my room.

If you answered yes to the above, are your books ordered in a special way? Just by height since I have a lot of tall books like encyclopedias as well as smaller-sized novels and pocketbooks.

Have you ever owned action figures? I have a couple of wrestling action figures and I want to keep collecting more if my financial situation ever permits it in the future.

Why did you last smile? Andrew Ilnyckyj finally has a new cooking videoooooooo, which is the main BuzzFeed content I watch these days. I think his last one had been posted in January, so I’ve been feeling pretty starved for some new Andrew content.

Do you have a close relationship with your immediate family? I’m not close with them in that I don’t feel shy about kissing/hugging them or confiding in them; my family are not those people for me. But like we don’t fight (anymore) and we’re able to have pleasant talks over dinner, which is as close as I’d possibly ever get with them.

Idk, we were ultimately never able to cultivate an emotionally strong relationship with one another, which I’ll always feel bittersweet about; but at least I now have a blueprint of how I’d want to build my relationships within my family, should I ever have one of my own.

If I gave you twenty bucks what would you do with it? Use it to pay my sister for the drawing commission I asked her to make. My total bill comes up to around that amount, anyway.

If dinosaurs could be tamed, would you want one as a pet? Nope, they can stay in the wild.

Do you crack your knuckles, neck or toes constantly? I crack my knuckles the most and my ankles as well. Never my neck and toes.

Are you constantly catching colds or other sicknesses? No, I rarely get sick.

Is there a movie from your childhood that you still watch today? I do an annual Toy Story rewatch because it’s my absoluete favorite kid’s movie. I will also always be in the mood to watch The Game Plan, which I watched every single weekday after coming home from school in like the 3rd grade.

Have you ever seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show? Nope but this has been on my list for years. Just never gotten around to downloading it and finally seeing it for myself.

Where do you do most of your shopping? I usually go to small, independent businesses that sell trendy pieces for a lot less, but I also drop by H&M from time to time. Once I feel secure enough with my savings I also wanna be able to start shopping from Zalora because they have really nice brands over there as well, haha.

Are you afraid of mice? I don’t imagine I would be since they’re tiny and cute. I’m afraid of house rats, though, especially considering how big they can get D:

What type of souvenir do you usually purchase when on vacation? I typically don’t get souvenirs for myself, but this is also because I’ve never traveled solo. My family collects magnets from all the different places we’ve been to though (and also from my dad’s work travels), so our fridge doors are filled with them.

Do you vacation often? Yeah, my family would usually take 3-5 trips a year, usually around the country and sometimes out of; but of course we’ve had to put a stop to it since the pandemic blew up.

Are you comfortable wearing your pajamas in public places? The only place I’d be comfortable doing so is at the nearby McDonald’s, since I’ve seen residents from my village come in there wearing their PJs or housewear. Otherwise no, I’d rather dress up.

What's your favorite candy bar? Twix!!!!!!!! And while they’re not technically bar-shaped, I love Reese’s Cups too.

Do you own more than one copy or edition of a book? Hahaha yeah. I have two copies of Twilight (one is from my boxed set, another was given to me by a childhood friend, Maryrose) and Breaking Dawn (one is also from my boxed set, while the other one is the special white cover edition given to me by Angela).

If you could see any musical on Broadway right now, what would it be? Miss Saigon. That’s the only musical I’m into.

If you could put any person or characters face on money, whose would it be? I definitely want to see a woman’s face on a dollar bill or coin sometime in the future. < Oh man, this is a pretty good answer. We do already have women in our P500 and P1000 bills, but they’re accompanied by men :/ It’d be neat to see a woman take over a bill/coin all on her own, like Gabriela Silang.

The place that you'd most like to be right now is where? God I really wish I were out in a coffee shop right now but I have to saveeeeee. I’ve been meaning to check out this nearby cafe that also doubles as a co-working space (which means I can do work there without feeling guilty or anxious that I’m taking too much time there, yay), and I might visit next week.

Do large crowds make you anxious? Depends on what the context is. If I find myself in the middle of a stampede that’s quickly going ugly then I will definitely start to panic; but if I’m at, say, a concert, then personally a bigger crowd means a better experience for me.

Do you own a helmet of any sorts? None of my own, but we do have a helmet for our bike.

Will you willingly sing in front of other people besides your family? No unless a huge sum of money is up for grabs, lmao. I’ve only sang in public once, when my mom made me do a solo number on my 7th birthday.

What's in the box? Yeah, I’m not feeling creative enough for this question...

Does your family generally decorate for most holidays? No, only for Christmas.

Would you take the chance to be Nancy Drew or The Hardy Boys for a day? Eh, I’d pass up on the offer. Mystery isn’t my thing.

Do you eat soup when you're sick? No. I prefer to drink lots of water as I usually lose my appetite when I’m sick anyway.

Is there a specific mug or coffee cup that you have to use all of the time? I don’t have to use it, but I’m in love with the mug Angela gave me just this past Christmas. I use it all the time now.

Have you ever watched Doctor Who? No, but I don’t think it’s my kind of genre or show.

If so, what do you think is the scariest creature yet?

Do you prefer to do your shopping online or in person? If I already have an idea of what I want to get, I prefer to get it in person. But if I need something oddly specific and have no idea where to start, that’s when I start to look for online shops or go to Shopee or Lazada altogether.

If you read, which book or series did you enjoy most as a child? Angie Sage, with her Septimus Heap series.

Do you read tour guide type books before you visit places? It’s been a while since I’ve traveled extensively, and when I was younger I didn’t really read into tourist guides. Now that I’m older, I do want to start reading up before visiting a different country – not necessarily about the best places to visit, but more about the culture and practices I have to observe. I remember being reprimanded by a Korean when I tried to snap a photo of something I saw while out in public in Jeju, and I don’t want to do something like that again.

How do you get rid of your hiccups? I hold my breath, which is a trick taught to me by my mom. Not always effective, but it does work sometimes.

Is there one saying that you've adopted from someone/somewhere else? I’ve picked up “Awesome!” which was Gabie’s catchphrase. My former director also liked saying “Anywhoooooo” when she wants to digress, and I’ve since adopted that into my vocabulary and mannerisms as well.

Can you lie effectively and smoothly? Yes, but I feel like shit every time I have to.

Do you buy Halloween candy when it's on sale after the holiday? No, I don’t enjoy candy anyway.

Why is your favorite teacher your favorite? She taught beyond her curriculum - music, which isn’t even part of my top 30 favorite subjects - and always made sure to inject a little bit of useful life advice in all her lessons.

Who can never fail to make you laugh? Hans.

Do you agree with the "they're just being kids" excuse? No, especially if the kids in question are already 16/17 year olds.

How many pets have you had in your lifetime? Countless goldfish, one chick, one rabbit, one cat, two birds, and two dogs.

Were you ever afraid of monsters under your bed? Sure. Still am occasionally, heh.

Would you kindly recommend your favorite movie to me? Two for the Road shows a realistic take on love told through cars and a non-linear tour around Southern Europe. If you’re into that and Audrey Hepburn’s pretty outfits in each scene, definitely check it out.

Their concepts are mature, but not in the sexy sense, in the sound and overall style. Somewhat dark and mysterious. Their sound is whimsical and a little magical but dark and at times and hard hitting with meaningful lyrics.

The group is split into three subunits.

Umbra: Eros, Ellie, and Min. The more mature of the subunits. They have a dark, more badass concept, but done in a very stylized way. They tackle really difficult topics in their music and the sound is very unique and every evolving but it always retains something that sound like them

Prominence: Sammie, LJ, Rocket, and Pidge. They pull from the more whimsical but dark side of their music. Sometimes they go the direction of uplifting songs but often dip into the mystery as well. They have an overall dark style with their comebacks but it’s got an ethereal feel to it. Their music feels timeless.

Diamond Ring: Sky, Sam, Cura, and Berry. They have a very bright, fun sound. Their music is quick, upbeat, and catchy. Their songs often surround uplifting concepts and their stages are a lot of fun, with cute antics and quick lyrics that still dip into serious topics.

“Alright, what color next?” I asked Mingi while subconsciously wiping the makeup brush onto my already stained shirt.

“Hmm, what goes with green and black?” He asked looking into the small mirror.

“Nothing.” I simply stated with a small smile.

He studied the pallete closely before landing on a bright red color in the top corner.

“Oh, try this one!” He said excitedly.

I looked up at him with loving eyes and gave him a small smile before studying the color.

“We ll, it goes with your hair.~” I cooed, pulling up his hair and causing him to let out a small laugh.

Now just where to put it? I thought in my head, seeing as one eye was a neon green and the other a glittery black.

“You could do one of those cut creases.” He stated pointing towards the center of his eye.

“How do you know what that is and even I don’t?” I teased, putting some pigment onto the brush. I’d of course heard of it before, but never tried it for myself.

“I have no idea how I do that though hang on-“ I grabbed my phone but he quickly stopped me.

“No no! I can teach you and show you how to.”

“Alright.” I said with a cheeky smile, setting my phone right back down where it was.

“Ohh this one next!” I exclaimed pointing towards the glittery blue shade.

Mingi looked at me with small eyes and began to apply the color to my eyelid.

And now, here we were, with random colors now spread all throughout our eyelids and cheeks.

Mingi decided that what he would do is put makeup on my eye to teach me, and I’d just follow along and mimick what he did to me.

And now, we both looked a mess, with both of our shirts stained with colors we didn’t even remembering using, and streaks we didn’t even remember creating.

“I must say, you look very handsome.” I teased, cooing his now that now also had red on it.

“You too~.” He cooed back.

“But beautiful! Not handsome!” He exclaimed, widening his tiny eyes.

“Awe so so cute~.” My free eye twinkled at him as my other one was getting lightly patted on with the brush.

And his eyes twinkled right back at me with a wide smile.

“Soo Y/n, I lost my key again so I’m gonna-” San and Yeosang walked through the door with multiple snacks I’m hand and stopped upon seeing us on my living room floor in the mess of makeup.

“Wow.” San said with squinted eyes, and I started to feel bad. We were all supposed to meet at the movies later tonight, but Yeosang and San decided to come over to the house to finish a series Mingi and I had started a while ago, as we only had four episodes left in the season.

“Oh gosh, sorry we-“

“And you didn’t invite us?” He asked with a painful look.

“My eyes are literally huge, I’d be able to fit twice as much as Mingi.” Yeosang joked, setting the food down and having a seat next to us, followed by San’s equally as eager self.

Well, this ought to be fun.

Hello!! This is my first post for the week, and I’m going to list a few of my favorite writers within the fandom! In this post I’ll name the specific story of theirs that sparked enough interest in my soul to help me discover them, kept me coming back and always looking forward to reading more of their works!

1: LiviJoyann - Neon Groves

I have so many writers I am absolutely head over heels in love with their writing on AO3, but I feel that I owe it to Liv to mention them first on this list, and specifically mention their absolutely stunningly beautiful story Neon Groves. I feel like I need to include a teensy tiny bit of backstory with this one, so here we go: I used to write nearly 10 years ago but stopped suddenly and never returned to it. I discovered TUA and it was instantly love at first viewing, and when I finished watching I knew I had to expand my interest and see if there were any stories written by the absolutely wonderful fans within the fandom. This story was the first one that I discovered and it absolutely BLEW MY MIND it was so phenomenally executed! Her writing, and the story that she builds, and every single detail is so beautifully well done!! While you’re reading along with these characters, it’s like you’re standing beside them within each chapter, creating these friendships, and playing out the “scenes”! The picture she paints is just - WOW!! I truly wish that we caught a glimpse even slightly similar to this in the show! Seriously, if you want to imagine how Klaus and Dave came to be from their first meeting, navigating their time together in a war zone, and eventually get the most detailed insight into how those two dolls fell in love, well, then this is the story for you!!! ADDED BONUS: This is the story that reignited the fire within my own heart and inspired me to pick up writing again after so many years as well! So, thanks Liv! I appreciate you! Thank you for introducing me to the wonderful world of AO3, but especially - thank you for inspiring me to get back into something I’d almost forgotten just how much I love to do!! ❤️❤️

2: Siriuspiggyback - Counting Down The Days To Go

Upon further exploration within AO3, I quickly stumbled upon this story and all I can say is this - It is so beautifully written!!! Every single emotion really struck a chord deep within my heart, and I felt every single emotion so vividly! Every ounce of joy as the family grew to recognize just how deeply they truly loved Klaus, to every heartbreaking ounce of utter despair and sadness as you realized just how quickly they were losing him! (Little warning: this is a terminal illness fic where Klaus has cancer) that being said, I can honestly and truly say that this is the first story that has ever reduced me to a sniveling wreck, a weeping mass of tears, and left me that way for quite some time! This is definitely one of those stories that you will never forget, and whenever you’re in the mood for a good cry, you’ll remember this one and come back to read it again, and absolutely destroy yourself over, and over, and over again! (Or maybe that’s just me?!) Seriously though, this is soooo well done, so emotionally gripping, and just a fantastic story from beginning to end! Could not recommend it any more! But hey, if something that’s definitely on the more sad side of the spectrum isn’t what you’re looking for, I still highly recommend you check this writer out!! Kay has a ton of other amazing stories within this fandom, there’s definitely going to be something that matches your TUA needs, I promise!

3: VeteranKlaus - Soldier Boy AND The Ghost Of Us

Allow me to just say that this creator is absolutely an endless pit of creativity and is constantly adding more absolutely fantastic works into this fandom! Literally, Daniel has over 40 stories and is coming up with new, amazing ideas on the daily (at least it sure seems that way!) I am blown away by the works that he cranks out, EVERY.SINGLE.ONE is so unique, so different than so many other stories I’ve ever read before, and just so sensationally gripping! I am blown away!! Soldier Boy was their first work that I read from him and I’ll be honest, it is a WIP, but I look forward to the day he updates it CONSTANTLY!! I am so in love!! Everything about this story is unique; When I first read this I had never, ever read a story that even slightly mirrored anything similar to this one (SPOILER ALERT: Klaus returning home from the war differently after sustaining a dramatic injury) every single bit of detail, every single insight into Klaus’s emotional state of mind, his physical state of being and his new struggles as he’s still very freshly coping with this injury, as well as losing his love and returning home and just—good lord, I could rave about it for days! It’s so well executed and just—wow! So freaking good! Now, as I said it is a WIP so it is not complete, but I was instantly hooked on this writer and so I explored more of his works (this channel is definitely angst centric as a fair warning, but if you’re anything like me and live for that kind of content then literally, every single one of his are absolutely amazing, again, you’re definitely going to find something you like here!) NEXT I read The Ghost of us and HOLY COW!!! I have never, ever seen a spin on Klaus’s time travel as I have with this story! I would say spoiler alert, but as soon as you read the description you’ll know exactly what the story is about and MAN it does not disappoint!!! Instead of traveling to 1968 Vietnam, Klaus lands in 1940’s Berlin. Let me just say that this story is absolutely mind blowing, it’s amazing, it’s heartbreaking and I cannot even form into words all of the wonderful things I can say about it! Just take my advice and go read it! (And yes, Dave is still in it!!!) haha

4: ObliqueOptimism - Those Days Are Gone, And My Heart Is Full

I’ll just say this; just like the writer’s I’ve listed above, Sara is also PROLIFIC and has over SIXTY WORKS for TUA, what?! And I swear, I think I’ve read every single one of them! Each story is so absolutely amazing in their own way! These stories also range from absolutely full of emotions, to the fluffy sweet tender side of the spectrum, so they definitely have a story somewhere within this vast, beautiful collection for you! I can’t remember which story was the first one I read from them, so I’ve included my absolute favorite!! This story, this story right here is the first Parent!Klaus fic I have ever read! They did such a gorgeous job at detailing Klaus’s journey as a daddy and raising his beautiful baby Jackson! This story has joy, sad moments, beautifully tender moments between a father and son and just so many wonderful story points that I really think you should take a moment to read this! It’s absolutely wonderful! Sara is incredibly talented, I definitely think you should peruse through their stories and try one on for size!

There are so many wonderfully talented writers for this fandom you guys! I have SO MANY MORE that I’d recommend over and over again for this fandom but I’m probably going to split these REC’s up and have a post each day! Again, I cannot stress to you enough how fantastic the writers and stories I’ve listed above are, I highly recommend you check them out if you haven’t already!

morph. my lil babu. when i first came back , morph was one of the first people i met in the stranger things rpc and one of the first people i became friends with. they’re literally just a wonderful shining beacon of a person and they always make me laugh / put a smile on my face despite whatever mood i’m in. morph puts so much effort into their characters , puts so much effort into contributing to the rpc , that we don’t really deserve morph at all but i am so fucking glad we have them. i’m so fucking glad that i met them. they deserve all of the absolute best things and they’re going to get so many good things in this coming year and decade.

talk about only knowing someone for just a hot minute but being absolutely enamored with them. if you don’t follow rowan , i highly recommend doing so as soon as possible. like stop reading this and go follow and then come back to finish reading this love fest. out of all the writers i’ve had the pleasure of coming to know in the last ten years , rowan really swooped in at the last second and said HOLD MY BEER. but in the best way. rowan’s writing ability is literally OFF THE CHARTS INSANE AND BEAUTIFUL LIKE HOLY SHIT. i’m rarely jealous of how someone else writes and i rarely go screaming to a mutual friend about how mindblown i am by someone else’s talent , but that’s what i did almost immediately after writing some quick little back n forth things with rowan. you will absolutely not regret interacting with rowan. and then , of course , rowan is an excellent human bean who is so easy to chat with that you immediately feel comfortable and like fast friends with. highly highly highly recommend.

last , but certainly not least is sarah. i’ve actually known sarah the longest out of everyone on there , from way back when we both used to write fanfic of our favorite band and marvel shit. sarah’s also the only one here i’ve ever met and i literally would kill everyone on this list for her. she’s an all around great person who , for some reason , puts up with my damn bullshit and has been for like a full decade or more now AND is a fucking fantastic writer. one day she’s gonna finish her fic and show it to me and i’ll scream into the sun about it for seven years.

Bro I must get the lore on Cyril and Ignitus. How did they get together? Why did they decide to have a kid (specifically for the prophecy if I read right)? When did their relationship start going wrong? And, most importantly, is there going to be a parent-trap style subplot to try and get them back together?

OH THIS IS A DELICIOUS ASK THANK U OMG

okay so i actually, admittedly, have way more of this thought out than i should bc i dedicated hours of my time to daydreaming about this........//////MAJOR SPOILERS for some elements of the rewrite btw!!

our four main guardians have, in my canon, been incredibly close for many years. ignitus was always known as the wise-man and the voice of reason, and despite cyril's bad attitude, he was always honest and kept up with tradition to a fault. ignitus was good at difussing the bad situations cyril caused with his rude comments, but cyril often stood up for ignitus when the red dragon found himself to be a bit soft-spoken. the two had a deep respect for one another and they spent alot of time together as close friends.

when the year of the dragon was drawing close and the prophecy reared its head, ignitus and cyril were asked by a council of elder dragons to make the egg that would become their savior (yes, it is because red and blue make purple. im incredibly creative, i know!!!) the council figured that two heavily respected guardians that had excellent handles on their elemental abilities would create an ideal purple dragon for the future. the two initially weren't very keen on the idea, but they understood that they were only being asked to do so for the sake of their fellow dragons. eventually, they accepted the plea. ignitus was the sire and cyril was the dame in the situation (in the rewrite, spyro is mentioned specifically to have ignitus's horns and frills while also having cyril's eye shape and scale patterns)

intially, the two of them only did this because they saw it as their duty as guardians. yet, ignitus found himself fretting over cyril often. he would guide him around carefully, making sure he didn't stumble around given the weight of his belly during pregnancy. he got cyril food, groomed him, cleaned his room, and spoke about how he wondered what their egg may be like. though cyril was a bit bratty about everything, he was incredibly grateful for ignitus's diligence and patience. cyril would ask ignitus to stay in his nest for the night, and exclusively sought out ignitus for comfort and care. for the first time, cyril was being fairly polite and even seemed to be happier, and ignitus had come out of his shell. they spoke for hours about their egg's future, and then about their own. volteer and terrador jokingly referred to them as the "new pair of love doves". after some time, cyril was actually the first to confess that he loved ignitus (he was always a little too honest), having said "no one has ever chosen to put up with me for so long" and, despite being a little surprised, ignitus reciprocated, telling cyril that he "could never really grow tired of him". despite not knowing what the future held, the two decided they would do everything they could to raise their child together, and to be with each other through whatever the coming year would bring.

and then the raid happened. the temple was destroyed, chaos was everywhere, and the eggs were all shattered. cyril was injured, and ignitus, feeling frightened and panicked, sent their egg away to hopefully find a safer place to hatch. the war began not long after. although ignitus cared for cyril and stood beside him in battle, his guilt only grew as the war waged on. he couldn't help but blame himself for everything that had happened. cyril tried to talk him out of it, saying he was being irrational, saying that none of this could all possibly be his fault, saying there was nothing more ignitus could do. ignitus refused to listen, and put the blame for the war on his own shoulders, feeling that it was the only way he could properly take responsibility. the two of them fought harshly. ignitus couldn't come to terms with his own self-loathing and grief, and cyril couldn't find his softness and reasoning in a time when things were so hard. after their last fight, they didn't speak again, and cyril was captured a few days later. of course, ignitus entirely blamed himself, and lamented that the last words he ever spoke to cyril were words of anger and sadness, and cyril lamented the same in his cage.

when spyro arrives and frees the guardians, ignitus and cyril are intially very tense! they both never imagined seeing each other again, and they don't really how to apologize to one another and how to make up for all the negative energy and time between them. they barely speak to each other unless they have to, and they refuse to be in a room alone together for more than a few awkward seconds. spyro, ember, and flame can obviously see how weird they're acting, but terrador won't explain anything. the three kids go to volteer who, of course, literally can not keep his mouth shut about it. he tells them that ignitus and cyril were once together and deeply in love, but the war tore them apart. ember, seeing a touching love story in the making, decides "HEY!!! LET'S GET THEM TO MAKE UP!!!!" and literally drags spyro and flame into her plans. the kids do anything they can think of; sending the two guardians flowers from """"secret admirers", throwing around mushy-gooey poetic love notes, lighting candles everywhere, decorating the temple, and trying to set the "perfect romantic mood" for the two sad-sacks. eventually, they get caught, and cyril and ignitus bring them into the training room to reprimand them. not having the courage to speak up, ember and flame are silent, but spyro eventually confesses that volteer told them everything, and that the kids just want to see their guardians happy again. taken aback, the two send the children away, and are alone in the training room for the first time. after a bit of silence, cyril speaks up first. "you never apologized to me.." he mumbles, the air around him feeling cold. ignitus counters that cyril refused to speak to him. the two begin arguing, and it seems like this is just going to be another horrible fight, but the two war-torn dragons break down. ignitus admits that he feels its his fault because he sent spyro away, and he could never make up for all the pain the war caused those he cared about. he couldnt accept that it wasnt his fault because he was the head guardian, he needed to be better, he was SUPPOSED to be better. and he wasn't, and now it was all too late. after hearing this, cyril, for the first time in many years, found his softer side. he spoke gently, telling ignitus that no one expected him to do this on his own, and that he needed to learn to count on the others instead of expecting everything out of himself alone. cyril told him that, even though their future wasn't a happy one, at the very least, they were both there. and spyro had come home. after a bit more talking, there's definitely like, a super passionated lovey-dovey kiss and make up scene, and it closes with the two stupid boyfriends deciding theyre going to tell spyro the truth

AND YEAH BASICALLY THATS ABOUT THE GIST OF IT i am soooo fucking sorry this response got this fucking long but i genuinely adore this plotline and it makes me soft and fuzzy inside!!! and yeah basically their relationship is gonna go thru some ups and downs but itll develop alot more as the story goes alone and i think itll be alot of fun to show u guys!!!!! anyway ajfjfjjfd thank u for asking me this bc i was looking for an excuse to gush abt them lmao BUT if u have any other questions abt my rewrite or anything go ahead and ask!! thank u thank u thank u!!!! <3

As expected, Dealing with intrusive thoughts is now one of my favorites

Here I come with almost all of my reactions on the episode, even though I tagged the spoiler warnings I put everything under the cut just in case. Enjoy the emotional rollercoaster while I'll probably go and rewatch it again.

I didn't expect this topic at all and I am so glad it was talked about, thankfully my intrusive thoughts do not bother me as much as I realized other people's do. And I never saw anyone talking about this before, which is why it makes this video so important. I saw a tweet recently about someone saying that it is okay if you think about weird things, the important is that you never act on them, that's what makes you a good person. But I think this video really explains it far better and I never realized how common something like this was? So yeah another time in which I've been educated and couldn't be happier about it. These people really are bringing light to the world gah I LOVE THEM.

another one of my dumb lil monologues lmao

So I’m feeling v emotional bc it’s that time of the month lol. Plus I’m a scorpio sun AND mood so u kno always secretly v emotional :’)

But, I was reading over the posts in my queue, making sure I still liked them, etc. And one of the posts, coming in a few days, I tried something very different to how I usually write. Very different! And I re-read over it, and i just, idk, I liked it, a lot. lol. And it’s such a weird feeling to read something I write and like it. And an even weirder feeling to think about how i’ve been writing pretty consistently for the past two years, or however long I’ve had this tumblr.

Like, can you believe that before I started my tumblr, I hadn’t written consistently in actual years? Years! In middle school, I would write all the time. I always had ideas going in my head. So many partially written shorts, first chapters of dozens of books, etc etc. But in high school and the first part of college, I really fell off the wagon. Just a lack of time, yknow. And not being in the best space mentally.

But then I started this tumblr. And at first, my writing was pretty rusty! lol. Rightfully so, I was out of practice. But I had so much freaking fun! And I got positive feedback from people on my writing for the first time in a loooooooong time.

Okay so also quick anecdote lol. In the days of Sims 2, I joined this forum called Scribblers Abode. Did anyone else go there?! It was like a writing forum for sims players lol. And it was my heaven on earth ahhhh. I made so many friends there, and learned soooo much about writing. Wrote more in those 2-3 years I was on that site than any other time in my life, except maybe now. I loved getting feedback from people, learning and growing, and reading all the other incredible stories people wrote on there. :’)

But ANYWAYS. IRL, I don’t share my writing. Even my boyfriend has never read anything I’ve written! lol. I don’t know, it just feels too raw to share it, I guess. Weird because I share it with the whole dang internet, but, life’s weird like that. lol. but so therefore, I never get the opportunity for feedback. Plus, I don’t know many people IRL who are writers. And feedback from someone else who actually writes is so different than feedback from someone who doesn’t.

So when so many incredible writers on here comment and engage with my stories. Even just take the time to read them! It just. Feels really good. :)

And it feels good knowing that Ive grown a lot in my writing, to the point where I can read my writing, and like it. Of course there is always room for growth and improvement. But you can be constantly growing and still leave space to appreciate where you’re at now.

And even cooler than that, I love seeing myself experiment with my writing again. Like, that’s how I know I’m in deep lol. I get myself out of my ruts, I try new things, I try different things, things that might not work. I play with it. I have fun with it.

Like, writing is SO DANG FUN FOR ME. lol. I just love creating ;lkfja;lke. It brings me so much joy. And it’s kind of ironic that I stopped writing during the years when I needed a boost of joy most. But again, life’s weird like that.

I’m just so incredibly grateful for this website bringing me back to writing. For the community. For the other incredible creators here who endlessly inspire me. For the supportive and encouraging friends I’ve made. I hope I never stray so far from my creative work ever again. And I feel sooooo much gratitude for where I am now with it, and so much excitement for where I’m going to go.

03.22.22 - Entry 4

NOTE: I have a hard time writing when I’m in a happier mood. I don’t feel the need to share anything because the world no longer feels like it’s ending and I don't need someone to tell me, “Hey, it’s only temporary. It will be ok again soon.” So if I’m gone for long periods of time, it’s because I’m happy(ish).

I want to bring another adult responsibility into my lifestyle...budgeting. Not so much, “Only spend money here, here, and here,” but more of a, “Where and on what, am I spending all my money?” I’ve been really frivolous with spending lately, especially when it comes to clothes. I just love fashion a lot more than I expected to. I feel like it’s such a fun way to express myself, so it’s hard to not spend extra amounts of money in that area. But it’s getting to the point again where I’m forgetting about clothes I bought, or just never wearing the things I buy, so I want to make a more conscious effort to slow down in that area. I have a feeling I spend a lot more than I think I do...

As for my life lately, it’s been okay. It’s not the greatest, but it’s also not the worst. I’ll take mundane over anxiety ridden and overstressed any day. I’ve been a little more hopeful about my future. I started putting my money towards things that can help to improve my talents and get me excited about my type of work again. I know I never said what it is exactly that I do. I just get a little nervous that someone will find this page and know exactly who I am. I don’t know why I get so scared, literally no one around me knows of or even uses Tumblr anymore. I guess I’ll just say it.

I’m a video creator. Not the social media influencer kind (although I wouldn’t mind being one, it seems fun sometimes), but the “I wanna make a movie” kind. My passion for the video world didn’t start with movies, but it’s developed into one. I actually found my love for video making through Youtube, waaayyy back when making your own music videos was a thing. I thought I was going to become the ever famous Youtuber, but it just wasn't in my cards I guess. I still have a longing for it--how could I not? It’s the reason I learned to edit, it allowed me to create from scratch, it gave me an escape from a really traumatic middle school experience...it was my passion. When I went to college I didn’t really want to make movies, I wanted to be a Youtuber. It felt like there was just so much more freedom of expression: no shooting schedule, no rule of thirds, no judgement of how things were shot or written. As I kept working towards my degree, I did end up falling in love with movie making. It’s a lot more difficult, but I found my passion also spread to the beauty of film and cinema. I love creating beautiful content just as much as I love creating Youtube videos. I hope/aspire to one day merge the two and be able to make a living off of it.

Anyways, I’m anxious for all the new equipment I bought recently. I really, really hope that once I start learning how to use it all, my creative juices will get flowing again. I just miss creating from scratch. I think it’s the main reason I no longer enjoy the videoing and editing. Everything I film is always for someone else. Too corporate, or repetitive, or for someone else. I miss making beautiful content FOR ME. But how do you make a career out of that without digging yourself into a hole first? I’m not 18, or 20, or even 22 anymore. Each year I’ve got one new bill added to the roster. It’s getting harder and harder to focus on growing this passion into something I can do long term, and I’m so terrified I’ll end up having to settle for some stupid office job one day. I know some people are in their 30s and 40s before they accomplish their dream (Apple, Microsoft, soooo many actors/actresses). It just feels like it will be too late by then. Shit it feels too late right now. I wish I could just peek behind the curtain and see what my future holds. To have a tangible piece of evidence that I’m doing something right...or WRONG! Then at least I’d know to fix it.

For now I’ll just pray that I’m on the right track, and hope that God will lead me if I go astray.

Art Intervention: Behind The Scenes By Shelly De La Rosa

Who knew a mood board would cause an impact on people?

When I was first introduced to the task of creating my own art intervention, at first I had no idea what that meant or how I would orchestrate it. My art education professor, Marissa, gave my class and me full control which coming up with the idea and conducting it. When I was thinking about what I wanted to do, I knew I wanted an intervention about spreading positivity or making people happy. As I was brainstorming, I started reflecting on my life in the past year and how the pandemic and lockdown really affected me mentally. I remember one day during the lockdown, I was having a bad day with my mental health. I isolated myself from my family the whole day and I was accompanied with my thoughts worrying about the world and the future. I then decided to make a list on the notes app of things that I’m grateful for today. I listed even the little things and found myself cheering myself up. I looked at that list and realized how lucky I am to things and people in my life. So that list gave me the idea for my art intervention. I decided why not have people start thinking about the things they are grateful for and things they’re looking forward to achieving And since it’s art, why not gather participants to get crafty as well.

Soooo, my art intervention was all about creating a mood board!

With what’s happening to the world, everyone needs cheering up and a distraction from the world’s evilness. I thought creating a mood board was a fun and creative way to start thinking about your personal happiness and goals. My goal is that when they create their mood board, they’ll feel inspired again and gain that drive of achieving their goals.

When I created my mood board, it was a bit difficult at first because I gratefully already have so many things that make me happy. But I didn’t know how to interpret that in images or art. My list of happiness wasn’t materialistic things but rather more deep meanings like self-confidence, Self-love, and career goals. Then I remembered that there aren’t any rules for making a mood board. I can add ANYTHING like symbols that could represent more to you. Nobody has to understand what everything in the mood board should mean except you. After I was done with my creation, I was SO HAPPY with it. I loved how it turned out like the color scheme and the variation of images and symbols.

Now it was time to ask other people to participate in my intervention. I gave my participants a gist of my purpose for the intervention and told them that they have full control over creating their mood board. The outcome exceeded my expectations. I loved witnessing their creations through Canva and noticed that each mood board was so different and unique!

I asked a few how they felt after creating one and my friend Shyan said, “I felt relieved after completing my mood board because I was able to visually see my goals and what drives me".

While my other friend said that it got them out of their comfort zone, "At first, I felt out of place because I'm not a creative person but this pushed me and I loved how it came out!"

In the end, I’m so happy that it turned out a success, and a thank you to my Professor for an amazing class this semester! Definitely one of my favorites <3

Glad to hear that my little moodboards sparked your own creativity. The more the merrier, after all. ☺

To give this fair warning… I don’t have a particular technique or anything, I mostly just play around with effects or themes until something comes out that I enjoy.

So… I will start out saying what I tend to do, and maybe you can take something from that:

The first step is to get an idea for the theme (at least that is my starting point). Sometimes, I will have an idea in the back of my head already. Sometimes it’s a fanfic I actually have in mind, so it’s rather fleshed-out and I will have specific ideas of what it will look like, which can be both a blessing and a curse, because that may be limiting when you can’t find images that correlate with your mental image. And sometimes… I don’t know what I am up to, so I just start brainstorming.

I keep lists of ideas, that helps a great deal - because I tend to forget a lot. Sometimes it’s just a key word or the basic plot for the moodboard-story.

But if I don’t have a plan? I just check out pictures to get some inspiration. Or I google movie lists to get an idea for an AU.

1. Image Hunt

The first step in the actual creation process for me is finding fitting pictures. I normally use pixabay.com because they feature a whole lot of free images. I also recently started using some Pinterest images, but for those, I include the links to the pins in the “Additonal Image Sources” section featuring in most of my moodboard text posts. On that same note, I try my best to link to the image sources I have available to me. The one thing where I normally don’t have the image sources anymore is the Nik and Gwen images I have because I just have soooooooo many of them in my files that I can’t keep track anymore, to be honest.

Generally, I have a huge file full of all kinds of images, so I have a base to fetch from without image-hunting *everything* over and over again. So when I have an idea for a certain theme, I will start out searching for images relating to that specific theme. If we take the military-themed moodboard I did ages ago as an example, I will search for images about “war,” “soldiers,” “guns,” “rifles,” “training,” etc. (whatever key words I can come up with) until I have a workable number of results. Naturally, that depends on the size of the collage and how many images the collage requires. Those images, for me, are the way to transmit the theme to others so that they know what that is about even without having to read the text post below.

Then I ask myself the question: What are the emotions of the characters (in my case… JB always, duh). Are they depressed somehow or at some point? Then I may want to include images transmitting that. Is this a happy moodboard? Then maybe I wnat to look for images that show Gwen and Nik laughing (or free images of people looking similar or where you can’t really tell what the person looks like).

Beside that, my JB Moodboards, for the sake of their sweet, sweet love, will also require images that give me the romantic vibe. Hence, having a solid base of images of kisses and hugs and all that is almost inevitable for my way of moodboarding.

And yeah, JB image hunting... that’s a thing of its own. I have soooo many imgaes saved to my computer by now, it’s pretty insane, but naturally, you can’t make a JB moodboard without them (unless it were solely book!Jaime and book!Brienne related). So yeah, a solid base of them is also necessary. I am always looking for images that display different kinds of mood and emotions or feature different settings.

So now, after the image hunt is over and stored on the computer, the next step is in place.

2. Piecing Together

Generally, what I do is decide on how I am going about this. Do I want to include gifs or just still images? If I include gifs, I have to think about the file sizes, I have to think about how to fit it with other images. If I want to include still images, do I want to piece them together individually or do I simply want to have them made into a collage (for which there are numerous websites out there that will do the job for you)?

As for my personal prefences, I like mixing up the way of arranging singular images, that some are bigger, some are smaller, some square, some rectangle. Others may enjoy the more focused and reduced moodboards more (and I love them as well, but for the story-themed moodboards, those work best for me personally), but I like to have some variations between the collages, especially since it allows for aligning the text (later step) in different ways.

But yeah, that’s a thing of taste, really.

So, for the sake of making an example, let’s stick to the idea that I want to do (another) military-themed moodboard for JB and that I want to have collages using a website. Then I piece them together on the website (depends on which one you are using) and see how things look harmonic to me.

Hence, I have to decide on how many Jaime and Brienne images I want per frame, how many theme-images I want to include in one collage, if I want to include a kiss or a hug picture in that image, and if so, where.

I I have a certain story in mind with the moodboard, I am trying to have a kind of narrative trajectory. I will start out introducing the theme (hence some of the themed images always go in the first panel) and link it to Jaime and Brienne, whom I will introduce (say, Jaime as the commander of the squad and Brienne as one of the team members). Then I may do another collage that shows their struggling (depressed-themed images) and then move over to mixing in romantic images in one of the following panels.

In the end, it depends on the images I find and how they look right to me. That doesn’t mean that they look right to other people, but that is then what I have in my mind.

After that is done and saved to my computer, the next step is in place:

3. Effects

Yet again, that depends on the programs or websites you are choosing. Googling around will give you a manifold of options to fetch from. I do a lot of editing with GIMP, though I also rely on websites where they have preset color-effects to fetch from. Again, it’s worth googling to see what you like best.

Anyway, sticking with the idea of the military-themed moodboard, that may set the color palette for most of the images. I would likely include collages that feature earth/green color tints or black and white images, or darker effects to help intensify the mood and unify the images of the moodboard (which is a great way to make it seem like they actually form a unity and aren’t just images you put together for the sake of it).

4. Text

That’s optional. I tend to add text to convey the story I am trying to tell. Yet again, there are online services that will do that, or you can use editing programs such as GIMP for the task. The advantage of GIMP etc. is that those programs will mostly offer a vast array of options to fetch from, since you can easily download fonts that fit your theme. For military-themed moodboards, all sorts of typewriter fonts look really well to me.

As I hinted at above, the way the collage is set up will in some way determine the way the text will be set. Personally, I like to use different fonts and put the text boxes in varied spots (sometimes I will have one in the upper left corner and one in the lower right corner, one time it may be at the center, another time it may be in the middle of one particular image within the collage, it really depends).

As to the content… well, it always depends on the moodboard itself, of course. I often like to include sort of “quotes” of what I believe JB would say in the story I am trying to tell through the images. I sometimes give further exposition by simply adding JB’s names and their function in the moodboard (are they officers, are they married, is one of them a scientist or a thief, etc.?).

Basically… it’s about making explicit those kinds of part of the story that the images cannot convey in its specificity or that help set the mood. The text can also link images together or bridge between one part of the collage and the next.

But yeah, in the end, it really depends on the story you want to tell and to what extent you want to explicitly narrate it through text. Sometimes just the images are more telling than any written text.

So… that is basically the motions I go through when piecing a moodboard together, but another chronology or take on it may well work better for you, so that really depends on your own preferences.

As to the technicalities… it yet again really depends on the programs you are using. My approach is always… trying things out, really. Do I like this effect they offer as a preset in GIMP? Do I like one from a website that offers effecs more? Do I want to overlay it with a blurred image to create this “bloom” effect? Do I want to add a bokeh effect? Do I want to layer it with a texture? Those are the kinds of things I can only advise to honestly try out (if you want to try them out - I mean… you can also simply put the images together, effects are not mandatory by any means). That is how I learned more about GIMP and how to use it. So yeah, it’s a bit of trial-and-error for me. I play around with effects and settings of text until I personally find it fitting.

In the end, it really is a matter of taste, so I can’t give any specific tutorial or walkthrough for how to get a nice moodboard. This is my way of going about it, yours may be vastly different.

But yeah, I hope this was of some help regardlessly.
