Little Imbolc chant❣️
I am light.
In a circle of light,
I am a fire.
Burning,
Burning so bright.

Imbolc
My experience with Imbolc is little to none, I have struggled to celebrate it since I don't truly understand the sabbat. However, I have made it a goal to celebrate every sabbat this year and to do that I need to get to the bottom of this one.
Imbolc is often associated with Candlemas, typically falling between Jan 31-Feb 2. It is also known as Brigid's Day, celebrated for being the goddess of childbirth, healers, hearth, and fire. Her light and warmth are said to heal the earth's darkness. Other goddesses acclaimed during Imbolc are (not limited to) Aphrodite, Athena, Bastet, Cerridwen, Demeter, Diana, Freya, Gaia, Hecate, Inanna, Isis, Lakshmi, Pachamama, Parvati, Persephone, Seshat and more.
During this time many reflect on their craft, renew their resolutions, and host a spring cleaning of sorts with the use of candles. Releasing any negative energies and creating space for positive ones, using the candle to represent the light and warmth you are now welcoming into your life. Also, acknowledge the goddess(es) you work with by offering them a candle a symbol of something they represent.
I have associated it with Groundhog Day, also sharing its day on the 2nd. And I read this proverb that resonates with the idea of them celebrating the same day "If Candlemas day be sunny and bright, winter will have another flight, if Candlemas day be cloudy with rain, winter is gone, and won't come again"
This is a time for energy to keep flowing, out with the old and in with the new. And to reflect on your life, your practice, and how you can improve it. How you plan to change it for the better. I will make a post about the specific things I will do for Imbolc as the day gets closer in case you also feel stuck on activities to do on this day. But even acknowledging the sabbat is a step in the right direction.

Imbolc
Tumblr media
Imbolc (also sometimes named "Candlemas") happens between the 1st and 2nd of February every year. It marks the midway point between Yule and Ostara, also known as the winter solstice and the spring equinox It celebrates winter coming to an end, to leave space for longer days ahead, and for new things to happen (since nature has been ''dead'' for the last few months, it is now time for it to "rebirth"!) What to do for Imbolc? Cleansing, planning new things and starting new projects is a great idea! Colors for Imbolc are: white, pale yellow, light green, brown, lavender, pink. Wear them, paint them on your nails, put some on your altar! Crystals for Imbolc are: amethyst, selenite, turquoise, ruby, garnet, bloodstone and onyx, peridot, clear quartz, moonstone. Take one with you if you can! Make plans for the upcoming spring! Be it planning your garden or activities/travels you want to do, make a bucket list, anything that has to do with planning something
Bake some bread, or make some soup! Leeks, onions and potatoes are really good during this time. You can even try this potato leek soup for this sabbat!
Have a cleansing bath/shower
Start a gratitude/mood journal! Try to keep it up for the whole year so when Yule comes around again, you can look back on it and reflect on your year. Collect snow for snow water! We won't have snow around for long now at this time of year so take advantage of it!
Start spring cleaning! Start sweeping out the old energies to welcome in the new ones
Divination! Although I always mention it in every post about sabbats, what is special about Imbolc is that some say it's a great sabbat to try new divination methods, or just not use the one you always use. For example, I mostly use tarot cards, but I have Witches Runes that I might prioritize for Imbolc.

Let's celebrate Beltane!
Today, May 1st, is Beltane. Beltane roughly means ‘bright fire’ and it represents the start of Gaelic summer in Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man. It represents one of the most important Celtic rituals, celebrated around a bonfire. Beltane is one of four Gaelic festivals: Samhain (1 November), Imbolc (1 February), Beltane (1 May), and Lughnasadh (1 August). Fire, with its cleansing,…

Imbolc: February 1st - February 2nd
"In the Celtic calendar, Imbolc represents the start of spring. Animals could be put out to pasture and were no longer dependent on stored hay. barns and homes that had been shuttered throughout the long winter could be cleaned or at the very least aired out. There were newly born animals in the pens which also meant a fresh flow of milk. in many ways, this point of the calendar represented a time of cleansing, renewal, and rebirth." ~ Llewellyns Sabbat Essentials: Imbolc

Imbolc Pretzel wreath
❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
For the dough:
500g wheat flour
300g room temperature butter
10g Salt
300 ml lukewarm milk
21 g fresh yeast
1 TL Natron (Soda)
500ml boiling hot water
rock salt
Preparing the dough:
Fill a big bowl with lukewarm milk
crumble in the yeast and salt ->stir until everything has dissolved
add the flour -> mix
Lastly add the butter and knead until everything is combined evenly
Fill another big(er) bowl with a small amount of hot water (not boiling) put the dough bowl into the bowl with water (the water should never touch the dough)
Wet a cloth, put over both bowls and let rest for 30-45 minutes
Part your dough into 3 even parts, part these parts one or two times more
Roll the parts into longer rolls
Take three parts, combine the top parts by pinching them together
Start braiding, hold everything up while you do and pull a little on each strand as you go
When you run out of dough take your other smaller rolls and connect them to your braid just pinching the ends together
(Trust me, it’s easier then 3 big strands )
To finish you braid just pinch the ends together and tuck them under your starting side.
Put your wreath on baking paper and adjust to your likings
Heat your oven to 170°C
Boil 500ml water add in the Natron (soda) (it will be fizzy but no worries)
Boil for 5 minutes, Take a kitchen brush and apply to your wreath. Try to cover as much as possible without it getting soggy
Sprinkle with rock salt
Put in your oven and backe for 30minutes (baking time can vary with your oven)
Take out when it’s golden brown
❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
Symbolism in this Imbolc Celebration:
Wreaths symbolise nature and have been used to honour the return of the sun and the promise of spring. The wreaths held candles that were lit in hopes of the return of the warmth and the sunlight.
The kitchen is the heart of every household. When you take the time to prepare something with your own hands, it lends sacredness to the meal, and will make you want to spend time savoring it with your family.
Salt is used for magical purposes such as protection, cleansing and healing. In Wicca it symbolises the element Earth.

As I stated before this was my first time celebrating Imbolc, and I was both extremely excited and extremely nervous about that.
The first day I spent appreciating my deities, lighting a candle to all and then those I worship closely. I performed a tarot reading following the guide from The Embroidered Forrest Tarot. I love this tarot deck and the creator made 6 different spreads for Imbolc.
The second day I spent reflecting on my path, where I thoroughly cleansed my home and renewed my resolutions, I wrote them out using "I will" statements as an affirmative way to make me accountable for my goals. As for the cleansing, it is important to focus on cleaning stagnant energy.
Yesterday, the last day of Imbolc, the Groundhog has declared that spring is coming early! Finally, to close the celebration, I made this recipe I saw from another practitioner (@simplyspellbound ) for blackberry pie and here are my results!

It was my first time ever making pie, and I hope to make many more! Here is the reciepe!!
🥧💐Happy Imbolc!!💐🥧

Imbolc Blessings!
Imbolc is from this evening Thursday 1 Feb to tomorrow Friday 2 Feb.
It marks the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. It is a time of renewal and new beginnings, as the earth begins to awaken from its winter slumber and the first signs of spring start to appear.
Has anyone seen any snowdrops yet this year or shoots starting to appear?

Rose in the Bramble
✨A themed cocktail for the party sídhe✨
1 1/2 oz sloe gin
1/2 oz crème de violette
1/4 oz lemon juice
1/4 oz blackberry syrup or jelly
1/4 oz rosewater
Sprig of thyme
Ice
1 egg white or 3 TBSP egg whites
Plain seltzer to finish
Put all liquids other than egg whites into shaker with thyme and ice and just kinda jostle ‘em around for a second. Add the egg, cap and shake for a minute and a half. Strain into a highball glass/whatever you have/a normal goddamn glass with more ice. Top off with seltzer. Drink or offer it.
This is just a fancy gin fizz. Great for Bealtaine!
