Susan knows all too well what it’s like to date Buddy Aldridge, so when he starts dating Jane after they break up, she keeps an eye on them. When a car crash during driver’s ed brings Jane and Susan together in unexpected ways, Jane has to make important choices.
i would give everyone a big ol’ smooch if you guys would stream grease: rise of the pink ladies on paramount+ whenever you possibly can. Today i literally had it playing on my tv while I was at work. I stream it when I’m cleaning my house or reading. Streaming on paramount as much as possible is the only way to guarantee a season 2 so please stream whenever you can, even if you won’t actually be watching it!!
ok y’all if any of you aren’t watching Grease: The Rise of the Pink Ladies on Paramount+ you are missing out my friend. it’s got bops, babes (on all points on the gender spectrum), and is currently my new hyperfixation/obsession. GO WATCH IT ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIKE HSMTMTS THE VIBES OF THE SHOW ARE JUST IMMACULATE FRENCH KISSES ALL AROUND
I absolutely adore Susan’s characterisation. I’m so thankful that episode six gave her that added context to her character because so many of her actions make so much more sense in this light. In particular her drive to survive which we really see in action in episode 10. Girls Can’t Drive firmly establishes that Susan will do what it takes to remain on top and whilst the past couple episodes have shown her lose her status as leader of the Socs (i.e. the slut shaming. she’s so Sabrina Carpenter ‘All Because I Liked A Boy’-coded), her beating Jane in the race allows her to claw back her position at the top of the Socs.
I never thought Susan would become a Pink Lady this season (even if this would have been pretty cool) but this beautifully sets her up to continue to be somewhat of an antagonist/begrudging ally for the Pink Ladies in a potential second season. Despite her desire to break free of what her mother wants for her, she’s still a product of her time and so will most likely conform to these standards. But I love her all the same. I love mean teenage girls in media <3
Buddy’s character in the last episode was…interesting to say the least. I have absolutely no idea what they might have planned for his character considering he’s now dropped out of Rydell and he’s been kicked out of his home but I have seen some suggestions that they’re setting him up in some relation to the Tbirds rival gang? Definitely would be an interesting plot to pursue and I would love to see a proper villain/antagonist arc for him. Like Susan, he’s incredibly flawed but it’s so satisfying to see them both more fleshed out than their usual character archetype. What I will say is the Hazel/Buddy is driving me mad. I want to like him so badly, but he makes it so difficult. His sudden realisation that he might like Hazel, and his subsequent treatment of her is very reminiscent to his treatment of Jane considering he doesn’t seem to realise how what’s right for him, doesn’t necessarily equate into being the right thing to do for others. The thing that mostly bugs me is his lack of regard for Wally? He admits that if he wasn’t going away, he wouldn’t admit his feelings to Hazel because Wally is his friend, but even in doing this he’s still throwing a grenade at Hazel and Wally’s relationship. It’s such a selfish move to burden her with this knowledge when he won’t be there for the fallout of it. I do love that he continues to be flawed though.
I’m also curious about the future of Wally and and Hazel as well. I’m team Wazel all the way, but now that she’s a Pink Lady, how is their relationship going to work? It will be an interesting dynamic definitely and I’m wondering if this is where the Pink Lady/ Tbirds dating rule will come into play? Not sure who she would even date though because both Potato/Nancy and Gil/Olivia seem pretty established now (even if they’re not official), Richie’s fate is unknown (and likewise seems established as Jane/Richie) and I’m firmly of the belief that Shy Guy/Edward is mlm. But that scene in Think Pink, where Hazel smashes the pie into Neil’s face seems to take Wally aback, and I think that sets them up for some conflict in season 2. Please I’m begging though season 2 don’t take Wazel away from me.
So, here's the thing... by this time, the T-Birds have left.. Or are in the final process of leaving, since Cynthia states she doesn't wanna see Gil's face. And the only people who are still around, are the Soc's.
Right?
Nancy has kissed everyone. Even B- Buddy. But she hasn't said anything about the T-Birds.. Then again, it's not like anyone asked. Besides, I don't think she can. After all, different circles and all that.
And technically they aren't Pink Ladies- YET! But for the sake of my rant, it would go AGAINST THEIR FUTURE CODE!
Im getting a rant ready about the 'RULES/CODE' of being a Pink Lady, so I will spare you all the most of it here. But three of which need to be said.
Again, not the pledge, the RULES! You can even google them! Weirdly enough, only the ladies have Rules, whereas the T-Birds don't... W.T.F?
Rule 2: At no time is a Pink Lady to become romantically involved with a non-T-Bird member. Restriction is rescinded only after graduation from school or expulsion. A Pink Lady will not date a: Jock, nerd, Preppie, anybody non-cool, or member of a rival school or gang. T-Birds, not Nerds!
Rule 3: The Pink Lady jacket symbolizes that the wearer is the girlfriend / consort of a T-Bird member.
Rule 6: No Pink Lady is allowed to interfere with other Pink Lady to T-Bird relationships. If the leader of the T-Birds is spoken for, unattached Pink Lady is not permitted to trespass on fellow Pink Lady relationship. If the leader of the T-Birds is available (Pink Lady girlfriend leaves - see rule #3), unattached Pink Lady may make advances on unclaimed T-Bird leader.
So.... Nancy hasnt/cant have kissed Richie, Gil, Shy Guy or Potato.. That opens up the making of the rules of such. AND I want them to do it! I need to know how their 'code' comes about! Its briefly spoken in both movies, but never fleshed out much.
And I like to think that Nancy will kiss Potato here..
And either need a Dewey Decimal System or will help create the rules themselves to make things simple so as to not over complicate things in the ranks so to speak.
From what I know, each Lady has a Bird.
Jane and Richie. Gil and Olivia. Nancy and Potato... Cynthia.... Hmm..
I've got a thought about this.
In recent events, we see Cynthia in a leather jacket. That means, she 'leaves' the Ladies. Then again, I would still want it to say Pink Ladies on the back, but in T-Bird font, if that makes any sense. And if she leaves, who then takes her place?
My unpopular opinion is on Susan, believe it or not. And if that works out, Hazel would take Susan's place among the Soc's whether she takes up with Buddy or Wally- doesn't matter to me.
Susan wants to be loud. Be bold. Not do the things she's told. And if she is acting out and rebelling while eating burgers, she could potentially be a Pink Lady. And my pairing for her? Shy Guy. And I know he kinda has a thing for Cynthia but.. Think about it..
A bad boy/giant teddy bear who rides a motorcycle and is part of a gang (who is loyal to their girls). CLASSIC. REBELOUS. Good Girl ACT. But..
HE'S A GOOD. GUY! And I believe she deserves that.. (Don't remind me of her going after Richie to make Buddy jealous. )
In conclusion, Cynthia would be able to walk between both worlds, as it were and could even be with Lydia if that's the road she+ the writers decides to take.
I'm super tired and don't know if my rant made any sense, let me know what you think. I love discussing this show!
Kitty Facciano and Tippy St. Clair first meet at the Rydell Athletic Club and soon discover their daughters are the same age. They promise each other a playdate and soon after, Jane and Susan become inseperable.
