NaFM: Ch 9 (10?) and misc. thoughts

I don't count the prologue as the first chapter, so I guess it's chapter 9?

(This is a test post similar to those blogs. Simply curious to how it would work when I type my thoughts. Not bad so far lol)

Honestly, the chapter is going to be super long (40k+ words), and with that in mind, I'm sorta dreading how long the chapter covering the 5th yr will be. I feel sorta bad for the readers (srry, if u do read this lol), but I also don't care much cuz I'm sticking to the format of 1 chapter per school yr.

I've been fluctuating between working on Not a Future Missus and continuing planning this x-over fic I have posted (also on my AO3) for two diff. fandoms. Gosh, I also have so many other ideas for HP fics, including a Tom Riddle Sr-centric fic (one of those what-ifs in which Sr. raises pre-Voldy Tom) and a Drarry fic with the Veela!Draco trope (or a Veela!Draco fic with Drarry?), both of which I'm likely to type out; there's also a possible "spin-off" w/ NaFM, but employing time travel??? Idek anymore lol! But goodness the HP world has so much potential despite its numerous controversies (which I won't bring up cuz I'm not looking to start a war).

And sadly (maybe not for some ppl), no Dramione plans as of yet. Yes, I ship it as much as Drarry (don't hate on me now, or at least do it without a word cuz I'm a multi-shipper who refuses to fight over ships), though I haven't been reading much Dramione fics nowadays... or Drarry, since I fandom jump quite a bit.

Anyway, maybe I'll get rid of some scenes, or I'll keep it as it is (my fic, my management muhaha), but I maybe possibly probably perhaps should just make Harry and Ella/fem!Draco kiss each other and type the "23 yrs later" epilogue and be done with the fic LMAO! (April 1, 2024 plans???? If it's still incomplete by then???)

What hobbies do I even have at this point, besides reading/writing fanfics? The occasional doodle/drawing, certainly. And maintaining my Duolingo streak????

To whoever reads this honest-to-goodness sorta-long post, srry for the chaotic writing/typing! Just blurting this out before sleepy time LOL! (Sleep deprivation sure is making me taaalk and I'm probably gonna cringe the next time I see this if ever lmaoo)

Well, if anyone reading this post (and my fic) has proceeded this far, have a preview I may/may not include/edit for the next chapter!

“What’s the point of this task if we can’t even watch?” Ella grumbled as she glared at the lake. The waters were still as the second task progressed, with only an occasional ripple on the surface. The crowd chattered as they awaited the champions, but Ella was growing impatient. It had been months since the Yule Ball, and the Scottish Highlands were slowly readying for the coming spring. There was still a noticeable chill in the air, but that didn’t stop the continuation of the Triwizard Tournament. The second task had begun half an hour ago, and to say the least, the surface-dwelling spectators were growing bored. “If only they used Muggle filming methods,” Tracey said disappointedly from Ella’s right side. “They have these cameras, and you can connect them to these screens that project what’s happening through the lenses. It’s like our moving pictures, but everything happens in real time. I’ve been told about them sometimes.” “Somebody needs to invent a spell like that if they haven’t already,” Ella said. Casual conversations continued as time passed. At this point, everyone was preoccupied with each other, with only a few occasional glances towards the water. During the wait, Pansy ended up braiding Ella’s hair, before tying it and switching to Daphne. Why everyone had to get up at nine o’clock in the morning to stand in the cold and watch a lake was Ella’s main concern, but this was one of the more boring days compared to the last few years.

Ok that's it. That lil sis anon is now my HC interpretation of how 5 y/o Saria acts and you cannot change my mind about this. On another note, please don't apologize for that post there! It's rather intriguing imo!

I will admit that I had honestly expected the post to be a POV from Kurai or possibly even Morgana or System Keith if only because those three are the ones who often come to mind whenever I think of those with depression. Idek they're just my go-to for my mind.

But then I saw the "either Kurai or Pachinko" tag and was thrown off. Kurai I had expected but Pachinko??? I- Are we talking about the same one who would do stupid shit for fun without any care for his own safety since he's immortal???

I'm just- I had always known there is more to Pachinko than him being a chaotic horny feral goofball but holy shit. I never thought he'd have such intrusive thoughts like this. It oddly enough makes me like him even more? I mean, not that I hadn't enjoyed him before. This man is such a chaotic mad lad who does what he wants, often saying or doing shit that resonates with me so much (like man horny and wanting to have fun now despite being in public? Man doing this dumb thing because it just popped in his mind so he's just why not I'm bored? Or him just laying face-first on the couch/bed tired as heck and wanting to be cuddled with but doesn't want to say it and hopes people will somehow figure out just by looking at me? God such a mood lol), and I love and respect him for it.

Plus he's a good example of what would happen if you give a chaotic shitter immortality. Most ppl probably feel they should always be careful and considerate with this power, but Pachinko? Man will do shit out of spite because why the fuck not. Just amazing.

But uh anyway getting back on track here, I honestly never expected this feral goofball to have this side to him. I mean, I know you had shown us before there was him and the rest of the Punk sonas than them just being fun dorks, but still hadn't expected this level of dark thoughts from a chaotic bum like Pachinko. It makes me wonder, is Pachinko actually much sharper than people give him credit for? I mean, not to say how he acts is just a facade cuz it ain't but he's definitely not as dumb as he acts.

.... on another note, wow, I can't believe I want on a ramble over Pachinko despite that tag SAYING "either Kurai or Pachinko". I definitely overthought too much on this 😂

They're talking about OTHER characters, not themselves. Sure, the "general message" can apply to them, but it's them telling the others that HAVE those intrusive thoughts to"keep quiet", which is just what those people tell themselves anyway

In order of those thoughts: Morgana, Roxanne, Cass, Keith, Leroy, Pico

They're thoughts each of them want to keep hidden, yet Pachinko (or Kurai) know about it. I'm gonna lean to Pachinko, mainly cuz Kurai doesn't curse at others, unless they're good buds

... also I just realized that maybe that IS what you meant, and I misinterpret. Idk anymore, I'm really dumb and I gotta read things 10 times before it clicks--

(Y/N) laid on her couch staring up at the ceiling. It was the middle of July and she was hot, bored, and sweaty. She sat up and reached for the remote, just to be caught off guard by a text notification. Selever. She opened the app.

[Selever] Hey Roachy!

[Selever] my friends and I are going to the mixer

[Selever] come with to even out the numbers

(Y/N) looked at her screen. A mixer huh? Cool beans. It's not like she had anything to do over the summer. She typed quickly as she replied.

[Y/N] cool lemme in

[Selever] lmao you're actually gonna come?

[Selever] okay, well, meet at 401 Dragon Rock Ave.

[Y/N] there's a bar there??

[Selever] lol who said we're going to a bar

[Selever] we gon be going to kareoke b####

[Y/N] OK

(Y/N) looked at the clock. 6pm. She had about two hours to get ready. She set a 50 minute timer and turned on the TV. She had time to burn.

So the time came. (Y/N) ran out her house with her purse in hand. She slid into her car and started it up. Streetlights passed as she turned left and right. A call rang. She picked it up. "Hello, who is it?" She asked.

"Hello, I called to talk about your car's extended warranty," Selever replied. Snickering could be heard. (Y/N) laughed. Why did he always start a call like that?

"Hi Sel," she said.

"Where you at right now?"

"I'm only like, a hundred meters from the place."

"Ha, sure you are."

"Oh hey! I see you! Okay, imma hang up!" She closed off the call and pulled her car into a parking slot. Selever stood waiting for her. He was wearing something pretty different from his normal attire. He had a magenta dress shirt on, and a black suit vest over it. A complimentary black tie and dark dress pants completed his look.

"Woah I didn't think you'd actually come," Selever smirked. "Getting desperate?" He asked.

"Ha, no. Just doing my job as the number-even-outter." (Y/N) replied, getting out of her car.

"Really? Cause you seem pretty dressed up for someone who's just evening out the numbers." He was right. (Y/N) had dressed up a bit for this occasion. She wore a blue one piece with a flower on the head of its belt. She wore a white cardigan, and two strands of her (H/C) hair, tied in braids, met at the back of her head. She wore knee high socks, and Mary Janes completed the outfit.

"Yes really, now let's go in! I wanna destroy everyone's eardrums!" (Y/N) grabbed his hand and entered the building. This one seemed to be slightly different from other bars. Like a Japanese kareoke place? There was a reception area, and you'd go into a room to sing. They ran past the reception and straight to the room at the end of the hall.

Selever opened up the door. "THE LAST LADY'S HERE!" He yelled. In the room were two other guys, and two other girls. Starting with the girls, there was one with blue hair, which was tied back in her pony tail. She had pink eyes and wore a grey turtleneck with a long skirt. The other girl had black hair, which covered her left eye. Red eyes. She wore a beanie, as well as a black shirt. She wore jeans, giving off a relaxed vibe. As for the two guys, a grey cat was among them. His hair? Fur? Was tied back in a ponytail. He wore a yellow hoodie over a suit, she assumed. He wore black pants and wore brown sneakers. Last one was a skull of... a goat? Moose? A demon? He wore a white dress shirt, and brown dress pants. His body and limbs seemed to be invisible, as his head and hand floated in the air.

(Y/N) cautiously entered the room. "Hello.... I'm (Y/N)." The girl with blue hair waved.

"Hi!! I'm Sky!" She held some cards in her hand. "Wanna play Uno with us?"

"Sure," (Y/N) said, sitting down. Selever also sat at the boys' side. A round passed. Then two. Then an an hour, as they ate and sang.

"Kay! Uhhh (Y/N!) It's your turn!" The cat man said, taking the input pad and handing it over to her.

"Sorry Kapi, I'm not too good at singing," she denied.

"You sure? You haven't sang all hour."

"Mmm maybe one song." She took the pad and

scrolled through the songs. Bingo. She entered the code as a upbeat tune started playing. She held up the mic, slightly embarrassed she was singing this. Selever gave her a thumbs up and smiled. She took a breath and sang. The others watched her as she hit every note. When the song finished, she put down the mic and quickly returned to her seat. They clapped for a moment or two. "Woah. You're pretty good (Y/N)!" Sky said. "I'm really not," (Y/N) said. "Oh for f###'s sake, just accept it," Selever rebutted. "You're good and you know it." Kapi stretched. "Okay, I think we're all warmed up." Warmed up?! That was warming up?! For what?! (Y/N) confusedly looked around the room. "Tabi, where'd you put the spinner?" Kapi asked. "It should be with the chips." Seriously what were they bouta do?! Kapi took out a spinner. On each slice was each of their names. Tabi, Annie, Kapi, Sky, Selever, (Y/N), all of them. Kapi flicked the arrow. Landed on his name. "I GO FIRST!" He said, grabbing his phone. He fiddling with it, he got something to play on the screen. His own song. He took a deep breath and started to sing. Annie cheered him on. (Y/N) looked in shock. He was singing his own song. This probably means the others have their own too. Goddammit, no! She prayed for the wheel to never land on her, she didn't have one yet! Kapi's song finished, and the screen read, "Beathoven.mp4 - unknown". "Oh yeah! That felt great! Okay, who's next?" He spun the wheel again. "Uh... Annie! Ya gonna go?" Annie took out her phone. "Hell yeah I am." She took a swig of her drink and got up. After fiddling with her phone, a new song started playing. She bopped her head a few times, until she also started to sing. (Y/N) leaned over to Selever. "You know I don't have a song! What do I do?!" She whispered. Selever leaned back. "It's fine. I can cover you if it lands anyway. Just get one of your weeb songs to play if I can't." As Annie's song finished, she spun the wheel. Sky Same routine. She got up, fiddled around, and sang. (Y/N) paid no attention to it. She was only thinking about what would happen when her turn came. What does he mean he can cover her?! What does he mean play a weeb song?! Did he mean vocaloid? Before she knew it, Sky's turn was over. Kapi spun the spinner. Oh god damn it. "(Y/N)! It's your turn!" He slid the pad to her. She looked at it in fear. "Um- a-" she was cut off. Selever picked up the pad. "M'kay. I'm bored. My turn motherfruskas!" Nobody stopped him. Just sighed and shook their heads. He tapped his phone. A steady beat came out of the speakers. Selever smirked at (Y/N) as he began to sing. It was upbeat. Pretty steady, until 30 seconds in. A sudden tempo change. His song was upbeat. And somewhat fast. As the song finished he put the mic back down on the table. "You had a song?? Wh- why is it so chaotic?! HOW'D YOU EVEN HIT THAT?!" Sky questioned as she, and the others clapped. Selever leaned back with his hands behind his head. "It's was made to fit me, and me specifically. Of course it's chaotic." Kapi put away the wheel. "Okay, since there's only Tabi and (Y/N) left now, I'm gonna flip a coin. Tabs, heads or tails?" He flipped it into the air. "Tails." Tabi replied. Kapi caught, and shielded the coin from view. (Y/N) prayed it was tails. He revealed the coin to be... "Tails! 'Kay Tabi, you're up!" He handed the pad to the floating skull, as a new song started to play. (Y/N) let out a sigh of relief. At least now she could think of which song to sing herself. I mean, Aishite was pretty good, but dark. PoPiPo sounded too idiotic. She could sing partners in crime.... if she had a partner. "So, be honest (Y/N)," Annie said, still keeping her eyes on Tabi. "You don't have a song, do you?" (Y/N) jumped. "I uh..." "It's fine. I didn't really expect someone like you to have one anyway." Someone like me? The hell does that mean?! (Y/N)'s pettiness rose up. She still didn't have a song, but she sure as hell knew which one she wanted to sing. Just as Tabi's song finished,

she snatched the pad and connected her phone. She looked up at the screen. Beeps played as she stood up, grabbed the mic, and waited for the first notes to come. She took a deep breath, turned to look at everyone and sang. "EVERSINCEIWASBORNFROMTHATDAYIHADKNOWNTHATIAMNOTHINGMORETHANASIMULATIONBUTI'LLKEEPLIVINGUNTILLDESTROYED, LIVINGFOREVERYESIAMAVOCALOID. Selever clapped for her, and the others joined him. Tabi looked at the clock. Holy crap. 2 am. "Okay, I have to go, I have work," he said, getting up. "Actually, we should probably all go now. The time's almost up anyway," Sky pointed out. (Y/N) picked up her purse. They were right. She didn't have anything to do over the summer, but it was getting late. They all walked out to the parking lot, and said their goodbyes. Only Selever and (Y/N) was left now. "So, got anyone you put your eyes on?" Selever asked. (Y/N) sighed. "They were nice, but not really my type, ya know? Would go drink with tho 100%." She smiled. "Besides, I don't think any of the guys really liked me."

AND THEN by @shadoedseptmbr @msviolacea & @ravenclawnerd for the “stories you want to write... but for some reason haven’t yet”

so this will be a mish-mash of both? The WIPs will mostly have blurbs in this case (to fit the second meme) but you are still welcome to ask follow-up questions, if you’d like ;) Assuming you make it through the list, it is uh. Not Short.

Misc Fic Folder:

“untitled document” - where I’m working on fictober fills so I have word-counts for my GYWO tracker. I am not working on these because Brains Are Dumb and also Going Back To Work Is Exhausting

I made a file called “YULETIDE!” which has nothing in it but I’m determined to finish this year so that is definitely technically a thing in the Unending WIP List of Doom worth mentioning. (Tho obviously that’s all I could say even if I had started, because anonymous.)

“coda-fics, rewatch!” -yes, that exclamation mark is important! it’s to keep me motivated! (it didn’t work). Much like untitled, this is for putting stuff so I can do word count tracking even if I don’t know what I’m doing. Currently I think it just says “MARYSE” because I was working on my SH 1x6 coda-fic and then got distracted and haven’t typed anything up yet. (Yay notebooks? Boo notebooks? Not even sure at this point.)

WNIP (works not in progress) Folder:

“TOG” - I had one vivid mental image of how Nicky & Joe met (blood-stained evil smiles?) but then no idea for a follow-up story and also the fandom is insane and I’m not sure I want to deal with all of *gestures vaguely* all that

“Shan Xia Notes” -for a TTRPG that never quite got off the ground; she was a semi-tragic selkie who was still in love with the evil queen/lady who stole her skin and I got to play her for like one session and she was surprisingly chaotic neutral, which wasn’t at all what I’d been expecting. But the game never really got off the ground, so I never had enough info to really delve into writing backstory fic

“post-Kruschev” -Kruschev’s List was the last episode of Scarecrow & Mrs King, and I was debating writing an epilogue in place of the s5 we never got, to try and tie up some loose ends, but the fandom’s three old-ladies in trench coats and I never quite worked up the gumption to get it anywhere

“Code Realize warm as silk sequel” -there is literally nothing in this file except “SEX! Only a little angst” because I wanted to write some “we can’t actually touch each other” smut but never actually did. 🤷‍♀️

BioWare (also all Not-In-Progress Anymore)

“seb/adelaide”, “Theia” & “DAI Erana” -these WIP folders were cannibalized for ficlets for the last few times I did fictober, and while originally I had ideas for longer epilogues for all three of them, at this point I don’t think any of the remaining bits could support a story any longer.

”whispers in the dark” -Maia Ryder never really got much fic at all; the cancellation of any further Andromeda stuff was really disheartening, and at this point I’d have to play the game again, and I don’t think I’m gonna manage that any time soon

”TSP” -a Mass Effect 3 Shepard AU collab project that kind of went off the rails, and our mutual brains/lives never quite seem to line up so we can try and rebuild it ”Ngaio & Tane” -my one truly ruthless Shepard (Alliance background, who romanced Traynor) whose father Tane Shepard was, I think, in PsyOps, and I wanted to figure out their complicated relationship but never really did know where I was going with it

”JE Zu & Yaling” -so I’ve rambled about my Tragic Sagacious Zu Romance Thoughts regarding Jade Empire more than once (#Icy Yaling should have most of it) but apparently I want to yell about it more than I want to actually write it? Whoops.

”CI sequel: 5 times fic?” -Cruel Intentions is a kinkmeme fill that I started and then it sat for like five years before I actually finished it, and I liked the ending, but it does leave a giant fucking question mark in terms of how those people got from there to where they are after the game, and I kind of wanted to write a proper h/c fic rather than just... leaving them wallowing in all that trauma?

But I didn’t. I don’t even remember for sure how I wanted to frame the 5/1 of it all, besides it being something sad about allowing people to see you or touch you in some way. (Prayers maybe, since I think there was definitely some Sebastian & Fenris & faith stuff going on in there.)

“candles” -Merribela prompt fill that I never was happy with? Not sure what I might do with it at this point, so it’s just sitting there all sad and lonely and neglected-like.

Shadowhunters

pt1: WIP LIST ONLY

“Persuasion” -so I keep trying to write Persuasion AUs in many fandoms because it’s my favorite Austen, but I think I like it too much, I have no real solid concept of how I’d transform it, and if I don’t have anything else to say about different characters within that framework, I have no push to actually write anything? Also this SH version of it suffered from MASSIVE scope creep when I started outlining and it got too big for me to handle so I like, killed it twice? Whoops. This one is really probably never gonna happen.

“oosdt sequel” -I wanted to write more about the Forest That Eats People and Magnus & Alec as Guardians Between Worlds, and also some background Magnus’ Found Family & Lightwood Family Feels (maybe some clizzy?) and I left a Madzie plot-thread dangling from the first one on purpose even but I think this one had too many ideas and not enough focus so it’s sort of sprawling all over a doc with a lot of “???” in it

“procedural-ish” -this was originally going to be a sex-farce. and then it turned more serious. and then maybe kind of copaganda which was uncomfortable in terms of the Everything That Is The News in 2020, and then maybe it was more a Mafia AU and at that point I had self-inflicted tone whiplash and I wished the voices in my head were a little more forthcoming about their plans so I stopped before I brained myself on my computer monitor in frustration.

“I had rather a rose than live forever” -I started a reverse!verse Malec (Shadowhunter!Magnus, High Warlock!Alec) for bingo last year, and I couldn’t quite get it together in time, so I made a moodboard inspired by the bits I’d started instead. I may see if one of my prompts from Bingo this year help me finish it?

“fall fright fest (practical magic au)” -exactly what it says on the tin! almost exactly a year old & neglected! IDEK ANYMORE (I talked about this one with the WIP meme last time tho: here)

“priest!kink theology?” -I thought it was gonna be smut? I like priest!kink. I have made other people like it and yell at me even! But then I kept diverging into demon!Magnus thinking about Priest!Alec’s faith and as usual, IDEK ANYMORE *laughs*

(If they’re remotely canon-adjacent or divergent, a bunch of these are in here because I need to rewatch the show to get the pacing/timing/tone right and I haven’t, and I don’t know why, because I enjoy the show, but BRAINS! Are Dumb! So I guess that’s it?)

“I do” -I have tried to write this damnable Malec arranged marriage fic like six different times. I have signed up for fic exchanges and bangs with it, I have rewritten massive sections, trying to change tone or structure or POV or whatever, and it basically comes down to they like each other too fast and I keep not gutting it enough to get back to a useful pace, but by the time I realized that I was on take six and kind of sick of it. I may get back to it eventually

“wing!fic” -canon divergent in early s1, trying to deal with the consequences of Simon’s kidnapping as the Truly Serious Event that it should have been. It uh. Got heavier than I expected with those consequences (considering it was originally just supposed to be Alec’s wings flirting with Magnus) and also see above re: rewatching for pacing.

“2x20 aftermath/date night/pandemonium porn“ -yes that is the actual wip title. It used to be “spite fic” because I was originally inspired by fighting against a lot of fic!Alec characterization that was clearly based more on the books and ATG syndrome than the Alec in the show, which is the Alec I know and like and want to read about. BUT, pacing and etc. again, I think. Also I have somehow entirely lost my knack for writing porn, which makes it difficult to finish something originally intended to be smut!fic. Or even teasing almost!smut.

“rubbish heap” -so this is about three different fics that I realized complemented each other really well so they’re now all in the same file as I try to turn them into the sequel of “with an if in its soul”. It includes amnesia, parabatai lore shenanigans, a s3 rewrite, and some truly awful Owl adjustments that make me wince in horrified authorly delight and pain. BUT, as with the other ones in this file, the scope is large and I normally write short-fic and I kind of just threw up my hands in exasperation. I may have to break it back up into the three different fics instead, if I ever actually want to write it. Them? But also I need to take better notes on s3 to make sure I have what I need in here.

SH Pt 2: Started posting or not yet in hiatus because it’s actually almost ready to be a thing in the real world! maybe!?

“kisses (firsts)” -I actually started publishing this one, a “series of firsts” that was supposed to be kind of relationship milestones and kind of an excuse for smut, and then there wasn’t that much smut and I lost momentum and also dear lords & ladies the timeline is stupid, wtf. I may not ever add to this one, tbqh. It doesn’t stop in a terrible place, and they’re all ficlets so they stand alone all right.

“clizzy epilogue” -this is blank atm, it’s more a reminder for me to keep poking away at my “girls who can’t breathe air, only fire” collection BECAUSE I WOULD LIKE TO ACTUALLY GET TO THE CLIZZY AT SOME POINT

"mer!alec" -pts 2-4 of a series, but apparently having an actual plan gets in the way of me *writing* the thing, and I haven't managed to throw the half an outline far enough away from my brain to be able to write again. Or something like that.

"ibhww" -if broken hearts were whole is a soulmate fic I started a million years ago, and purposefully set aside to finish some other WIPs because I thought they'd be quick, and now it's just buried under two and a half years of regret and shame so it's hard to get back to it

"iafy" -i am for you is a delightful & frothy semi-epistolary fluff piece that also just lost momentum because Life & 2020 & etc. It's far and away the most popular thing I've ever posted on AO3, which also makes me feel weird sometimes, and I feel like the fact that there's no grand conclusion planned, just a bit more fluff and settling in, might end up being disappointing? Basically, it's the first time I think I've psyched myself out about reader expectations, and until I get over that I'm going to have trouble finishing the last couple chapters. (There really are probably only two more chapters though. IT’S SO CLOSE, I wish I could just... write it. And yet?)

“fake-hating” -I do not like fake dating as a trope that much, I just do not get it, but I love outside POVs and arranged marriages and there’s this delighful tumblr post about how they wished there was more fic about people who were together but had to pretend they werent’, and uh. This may be that? Eventually? I’m not exhausted by my failure to finish it yet, so it’s still in the regular folder rather than the hiatus folder, even though nothing’s been posted for it.

AND I THINK THAT’S IT?

Not as terrible as it could be, but still. MANY WORDS THAT MAY NEVER SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY. Posting the equivalent of one’s old ratty sketchbook is always a weird feeling. :D

- he shows up, SHIRTLESS, with his cross necklace (you've only seen him wear once lmao) dangling down

- not to mention the goddamn CURLS hanging down

- and your heartbeat quickens

- ... both heartbeats...

- then fucking PETER JUST STROLLS INTO THE ROOM

- ALL INNOCENT N SHIT AS IF HE DIDN'T HAVE A VIDEO ON HIS PHONE THAT LITERALLY MADE YOU READY TO RISK IT ALL

- "why do you have my phone?"

- you've never slammed it onto the bed so fast

- "no reason"

- he raises a suspicious eyebrow before picking up his phone and unlocking it

- and the fear in his eyes when the screen opens to his video

- he looks back up at you, mouth slightly open in fear/awe/ohshitohgodohFUCK

Have you joined any new fandoms recently? Do you have any advice for people trying to break in to older, long standing fandoms?

Hmmm!

I mean, Good Omens itself is an old fandom, but the rebirth of the show brought a whole bunch of new stuff, so ...idk, I’ll count it anyway! I’ve also just started in the Defenders fandoms (Jessica Jones, Daredevil, the Punisher, etc) and have a bunch of other periphery fandoms I’ll eventually launch into (Star Wars, Broadchurch, idek so many).

The thing is — I’ve actually only been active in MCU fandom for a little bit over a year! That’s still pretty new to me (although the, uh, hundreds of thousands of words I have in there might tell another story), but it’s been one of my favorite fandom experiences so far. Likewise, entering the (chaotic AF) little corner of GO fandom I inhabit has been awesome as well. Here are some thoughts!

There are no fandom gatekeepers. The way to “break in to” a fandom, old or new, is to...start posting about it! Fic, art, thoughts, Tumblr shitposts — whatever you’ve got. You can just yeet it out into the ether! With the right tagging, people will see it! Bam, welcome, you’re in the fandom.

If you’re talking about becoming established as an author (or other creator; I’m using fic as my example), then what comes next is consistency. Post as regularly as you can. Share new things. Reply to comments! Read other similar work and comment on it too! Keep up all these kinds of output.

If you’re talking about making friends, *my* way of doing it is kind of like... flinging yourself into the void. When I came into MCU via Winterhawk, I did it through events, and I connected with other people about ideas and brainstorming and ...kept up friendships! Eventually this led from me having approximately 0 MCU words to me having (what I consider) one of the most positive MCU discords out there. It takes some flinging - not everyone will like you and that’s okay - and some investment, like all relationships do. What helps is that I’m excited about stuff - my work, other people’s work, this dumb idea I had at 4am — and that carries over. Example: the time somebody reached out to me over my ridiculous 40 Snake Children GO fic, and — I flung myself into their chaotic discord, was my normal overenthused self, and I now have a great pack of (feral) friends and two more discords to play in.

My last piece of advice stems from the fact that I’m a Fandom Old who remembers AOL chat rooms and everything that came after: lurk more. If you feel like you’re not quite ready for the flinging, or you’re not clicking somewhere, lurk. Fandom spaces all have a culture, and if you’re not vibing with that culture yet, spend some time observing. Do the other fannish creators like getting asks and talking about meta? Try that for a start. Do people sprint, or share snippets? Try that. Is this a fandom space for positivity? Try coming in excited about something. READ OTHER FANFIC and the comments, and get a feel for what’s out there. So many people just launch themselves into a new space without spending a little time to pick up the customs and culture there; pay attention and learn what works from watching!

Above all else, HAVE FUN. sure we’re all here for the response in a way, but do what you enjoy. If that’s writing, keep writing. If that’s shitposts, keep shitposting. The second fandom starts to feel like work or isn’t fun anymore, re-evaluate. If you’re only in fandom to get praise, I don’t think it’s gonna work out for you.

i’m sorry i haven’t updated you in a while, my thoughts have been chaotic with everything happening. i haven’t been the happiest and it’s just too much for me to handle. i also haven’t cried in a while so there’s a build up.

i stopped taking to lao, i felt like i was leading him on and i didn’t want to hurt him because of how i couldn’t reciprocate the same feelings. i miss him though, he made me smile and was sweet and he was there for me when i needed him to be. but as much as i want it to be okay, it wasn’t right. my friend told me to give it another chance, to let go of my doubts, but i don’t know if i can do that. my negativity will always be there, and i won’t be enough for that person.

black daisy texts me every once in a while and calls me. he’s annoying, i don’t understand why he talks to me if he knows i’m boring. it’s nice talking to him though, but i always feel like i’m walking on a tight rope with what i say. he’s complicated, and i don’t know why i always reply back to him.

perry broke my heart a while back, but he’s back in my life. he messages me every single night. and we chit chat for hours on end. and he bought me dutch today, and he said he’s moving may first he just posted about having a crush and her not responding, wow that sounds like me lol. he always got me roses and chocolates for valentine’s day and he invited me out for my birthday but i declined. he’s such a character. always has something up his sleeve to make me laugh.

yam dmed me a while back and i left him on read, he messages me every day and he has a crush on me. but i feel like something’s missing. i feel awkward when i tell him about myself. he’s awkward and i feel sad. he’s funny and he makes me laugh but i don’t know. i don’t want to break his heart. but i already know i am. he doesn’t fit my family’s standards, and he’s okay looking. but looks don’t matter to me, as long as they make me happy. he dry texts too, and he uses words that i’m uncomfortable with. like, ok, lol, etc. he makes me feel unwanted. he also insults me as a joke but it really does hurt.

my ex is still here. he texts me and calls me and tells me he wants us to try again. but i can’t. i’m so hurt, i feel like i can’t love again. he tells me he’ll be better and that he doesn’t love me, and that love is so much more. then why does he continue to bother me. he makes me feel guilty for what he did. i hate it. i hate him. he told me, “I just want to say, I don't blame you for anything in the past. I always tried but I'm sorry I didn't do the best. I'm sorry for being bad. I'm sorry for being immature and insecure. But thank you for everything that you've done and taught me. And ultimately for breaking up with me. I feel like that really made me grow as a person, to never be like my past. You know, there's worse people than me but I'm glad I didn't get worse. I feel like we really possibly could've worked things out, because even on our break, I was making so many changes already on being a better person. And when I came back to pick you up and you were crying, the night we had that talk and went to river park, I thought that maybe we really can get through this. Your emotions felt it. I felt it. I was scared of losing you because day by day I felt farther away from you. And when you told me, the day after we broke up, you cried, maybe if I would've came back sooner, we could've been better than our past. We could've wanted the best for us, for ourselves, for us. Idek what I'm saying anymore, there's just so much unfinished. So much more, how I could treat you so much better, with so much more care and secureness, and a shoulder. I'm ugly for saying all of this lol but thank you really. “ i fucking hate what you did to me. i’ll never forgive you. even if i act like we’re okay, we’re not.
