How is Gisele getting along with the members of House Hallienarte?

fabulously well!

Francel is The Baby and everyone is fiercely protective of him, so the fact that Gisele saved him the way she did pretty much guaranteed her endearment to the Hailenartes for life but beyond that they are all genuinely fond of her for many other various reasons

Her friendship with Francel is incredibly strong for numerous reasons even beyond the rescue--shared love for Haurchefant, their interests in music and poetry--but they’ve had a really warm metamour relationship that eventually slid into “with benefits”, which is a fic I still very much want to write but tl;dr Francel essentially discovered he was bisexual because of Gisele, after a lifetime of thinking he was a hard Kinsey 6. And after going through so much inner turmoil, it meant a great deal to him that she was so kind and compassionate and gentle with him. I want to stress that it’s not a romantic thing at all between them, but a deep and abiding friendship that now occasionally doesn’t have pants.

Lanaiette admires Gisele a great deal because she doesn’t care what anyone thinks about her, and she’s incredibly driven; these are qualities Lanaiette has always had, and not always been encouraged to develop. Not from her family of course, who have always been very supportive of her, but Lanaiette has never fit into Society(tm) and while everyone else was busy being heterosexual she was studying the blade. Gisele’s never let anyone define who she is or who she should be and that’s something that means a hell of a lot to Lanaiette. She and Gisele have an understanding because of that.

Aurvael adores Gisele because she gets Stephanivien out of the Manufactory but also because she’s a kindred adventurous spirit fascinated with getting out and exploring the world. He gets so much vicarious joy out of hearing stories about her adventures and if he happens to be in the city when she is, she is Obligated to tell him all about her latest ones.

I can’t talk about Stephanivien without bringing up The Situation(tm) with him, Francel, and Haurche, and it’s way too long and complicated to get into here (I had to cut it from this fhjsdkfs), but it will suffice to say that Gisele was the impetus for that love triangle finally getting solved after who knows how many years, simply because she got them to sit down and talk to one another about the elephant in the room they’d all been trying desperately to ignore for so long (especially Haurchefant and Stephanivien).

Count Baurendouin took a bit to warm up to Gisele. Obviously he was immensely grateful for everything she had done for his house even before she got to Ishgard, but his early view of her was admittedly colored by class prejudice, in the sense that adventuring was seen as a disreputable profession, so she was little more than a sellsword. And he worried about her influence on Stephanivien at first, but Edmont’s adoration of her went a long way toward setting his mind at ease. Then his concern wrt her involvement with his heir was really fear of the rumor mill hurting them both, because she was known about the Pillars as Haurchefant’s mistress from basically the first time she set foot in the city as Edmont’s ward. He adores her though, because of who she is, and how she brings out the best in Stephanivien just by being herself.

ofc I’ve got headcanons about the Countess de Haillenarte because you know me and missing moms, so I’ll talk about how Gisele’s relationship with her is particularly quite strong. Jacinthe was a vibrant social butterfly but Chlodebaimt’s death nearly destroyed her, and she hasn’t been the same since; she sank into a deep depression and is still wearing the black of mourning, far longer than the customary year and a day of Ishgardian tradition. (When Gisele and the lads had the big public wedding, it was actually the first time Countess Jacinthe had made an appearance at a social event not hosted at Haillenarte Manor since Chlodebaimt’s death.)

But Jacinthe warmed to Gisele immediately, of course because she saved Francel and cleared the House of the false heresy charge, but with her grace and compassion and wit. Jacinthe is reminded very much of her youthful self, when speaking with Gisele (she and Baurendouin had an understanding and each of them kept lovers, though few were shared in kind). And as much as Jacinthe adores her sons, she always wanted another daughter and has basically claimed Gisele as a second one, which she doesn’t mind at all.

Jason Todd:

- for jason, it's the feeling he gets when his eyes meet yours

- his heart does more intense flips than grayson when your eyes lock, sometimes his angry and swollen eyes meet your soft ones, and he realizes he'll be okay because you're there

- other times his heart flies at a million bpm when his eyes meet yours with a smirk, making you choke on air and die laughing only for him to scoop you up with a twirl and a kiss

- he could spend hours floating in the depths of your eyes, their his comfort, his lifeline, and the pair of gorgeous eyes he plans to love for the rest of his life

Wally West:

- for wally, it's the way you run your fingers through his hair

- wally is goofy, and fun loving, and bubbly but he also gets tired, and sad, and defeated. before you he didn't have a good way of recharging, sometimes just locking himself up for a day with a range of books to speed read while he tried to sort his feelings out on his own

- with you, he has a safe place, a person who will quietly hum while you run your fingers through his hair, letting him let out everything spinning through his head

- the first time you opened your arms to him he melted into your embrace, shocked that you were okay with him slowing down for once and trying to explain what was running through his mind at mach 20, now it's become a more frequent thing, and wally couldn't be more grateful his has someone to run home to after a long day (cue the damn song hehehe)

Damian Wayne:

- for damian, it's the sigh he lets out when he's finally returned to your embrace

- pulling you into a sweeping hug after a long day or a trechourous adventure he lets go of the breath that had been locked in his chest all day, replacing it with inhaling the smell of your shampoo and reminding himself this is why he fights to return home every night

- he wasn't big on hugging until he was hugging you, and he never realized how pent up he always is until he's completely free with you :)

Dick Grayson:

- for dick, it's your passion and zeal for life

- he's forever inspired with the way you want to change the world for the better and the way you're drawn to helping people, you constantly remind him that he fights to defend people like you, so that you can go on and change the world

- he admires how humble you are in your pursuit of your passion, the way you won't push some else down but rather help them up with you, watching you grind for your desires brings the biggest smile to dicks face and he couldn't imagine a life without you reminding him day in and day out that you're gonna change the world, even if you don't believe it yet

Bart Allen:

- for bart, it's the way you always defend him

- he was so used to be called the dumb one or being forgotten and having to catch up (not that he wasn't speedy enough to always catch up) but you were always the person who never forgets him and who never let anyone get him down

- "hey! bart is smarter than all of you combined shut up" "ooh that sounds fun! lemme text bart cuz he's out right now!" "hey B could you help me with this?"

- it makes his heart melt when you set time aside, remember, and appriciate him, it's truly one of the biggest reasons he fell in love with you

Tim Drake:

- for tim, it's the way you're always on his team, the way you're always there.

- his life is constantly changing rapidly, sometimes it feels like he has no one to hold on to and that everything is moving too fast- but there you are, an anchor in the storm for him to relax with and feel safe next to

- tim loves that even if you're questioning what he's doing you won't embarrass him in front of his family and friends as they often try to shoot down his ideas even when they're genius, but now, he always has you to side with him and question later. and he'll never stop being thankful for you being his light in the dark.

Gar Logan:

- for gar, it's the way you laugh at his jokes

- he had never heard a laugh as perfect as yours, the way it bubbles up out of your chest even when you're trying to roll your eyes at his cheesy grin or when you can't contain the laugh from one of your own jokes

- he loves the way your nose scrunches up and sometimes he can't refrain from tackling you and peppering kisses across your face until his favorite laugh is more of a breathless wheeze begging him to stop so you can catch your breath

- he promised himself that he would spend the rest of his life making you laugh like that, it's his favorite quality of yours

Conner Kent:

- for conner, it's the way you listen.

- none of his friends or family are the best listeners, two very busy dads trying to kill each other and super-friends who are usually mid battle or mid nap, it can all feel really isolating especially when one has got so much to talk about, but then there was you.

- for the first time in his life he had someone who cared for him and showed it through giving him the time of day just to listen, to talk, and to ask questions

- conner loves the way you help him grow and heal through words, his favorite "date" is chatting with you while he does chores on the farm or trains at the tower, and he loves that you're content to draw, or play games on your phone, or just watch him- all while listening and keeping conversation, he's fascinated by your empathy for him and will forever be thankful for it

Random JBM+Grantaire headcanons: How they came to be

So I asked @midasinc about their headcanons for JBM with Grantaire as a very close friend/queerplatonic partner, and it has made me want to make my own post. Be warned, a lot of these are rewritings of old posts, so if you feel like you’ve heard them before, that’s probably why.

Also, once I got started this grew way too much for one post, so I’ll be making two parts.

How they came to be.

Grantaire and Bossuet met at a beginning-of-the-academic-year party. They were both quite drunk already, but not so much that they couldn’t decide they liked each other and exchange numbers. They run into each other again a couple of times and hit it off. Soon they were seeing each other during the day too, and they become drinking buddies/friends.

Grantaire did a lot of ballroom and other types of couple dances when he was young, and he gets roped into teaching the beginners’ class at the university’s dance club. Not wanting to do it alone, he ropes Bossuet into signing up for moral support.

On the other hand, Joly signs up to the same class, thinking that learning how to dance as a follower will give him a few chances to dance with cute boys at parties. He didn’t expect is to find someone at the class, but the tall African guy with the booming laugh who keeps stepping on his toes and making jokes with the teacher may be The One...

Joly has very heavy anxiety, and a severe enough hypochondria that he sometimes develops the symptoms for real. Grantaire, who has dealt with his fair share of anxiety attacks over the years, is probably the best at handling them when he gets bad, and Bossuet has no qualms at calling him when Joly needs a hand.

Musichetta is Grantaire’s step-sister. They met as teenagers, when Grantaire went on a trip to Martinique to visit his mother and her new family. They don’t see each other much, because of the distance, but they do Skype regularly, they enjoy each other’s company a lot.

When Musichetta turns eighteen and moves to Paris to study, it’s a no-brainer that they are going to move together.

Grantaire loves introducing Musichetta is “his sister”. Both because it feels like that to him (and saying “step-sister” just sounds Cinderella-y), but also because it is hilarious to see people’s faces while they try to find a non-offensive way of asking “but... you are White, and she is Black...”.

When Joly sees Grantaire’s (step-)sister for the first time, he goes on a bluescreen of death for a while. He has identified as gay since his early teenage years, and he is secure in his sexuality, and he has gone through the hassle of coming out to his family, and everything... and now there is this girl, and she is amazing, and gorgeous, and is he attracted to her???

Bossuet is super supportive of his boyfriend while he tries to understand what he’s feeling. It does help that he understands perfectly what he’s going through. Because he also had issues deciding whether he was bi or gay when he was younger, but also.. because Musichetta is just very cool, so he gets it. Really.

Meanwhile, Musichetta just thinks that ‘Taire’s friends are funny and nice and she likes them a lot, she’s happy that they are around so often.

Joly ends up coming out as “5, maybe 4 on the Kinsey Scale”, and confessing to Grantaire that he kind of wants to date his little sister....? To which Grantaire’s answer is “if Bossuet is okay with it go for it, dude, you don’t need my permission, what is this, the nineteenth century??”

mcu thor:

Sexuality Headcanon: this dude is bi. this dude is like...kinsey scale 2.5 i think (why do i sometimes give people kinsey scale ratings lmao whatever)

Gender Headcanon: cis dudebro (also ok not related to his gender but the thought occurred to me while writing this: "he mixes protein powder into his respect women juice every morning" so...there's that i guess)

A ship I have with said character: i don't actually have any thor ships :( i read thorki sometimes but more because i want thor & loki content than because i ship it properly

A BROTP I have with said character: i'm all about the revengers still tbh!! they should go on shitty little adventures and have huge success constantly i think

A NOTP I have with said character: i wouldn't go so far as to call them notps but i don't particularly enjoy thor with almost any of the avengers? doesn't *bother* me, just not my thing

A random headcanon: he is generally quite a sound and peaceful sleeper, but on occasion he does have intense dreams that trouble him and cause him to toss and turn. it is always evident that this has happened because thor's moving around in bed generates a LOT more static than the average person's, so his hair is a puffed-out mess until he gets it under control and touching him will give you an electric shock for a good few hours after he gets up :p

General Opinion over said character: i am currently wearing a shirt with the mcu mjolnir design on it (in pink floral :p) which probably tells you what you need to know about this

mcu loki:

Sexuality Headcanon: beyond pan. almost literally anything goes. however, he does not fuck and is unfuckable, so it's complicated

Gender Headcanon: fluid ~

A ship I have with said character: as with thor i don't particularly participate in shipping mcu loki, but i am fond of valki specifically as a f/f ship. (i ship sylki somewhat but mostly out of spite...i might ship it more earnestly if sylvie also went by loki and had black hair too...if you're gonna do loki/loki go all-in imo 😂)

A BROTP I have with said character: thorthorthor i really am just so enamored of thor and loki's dynamic!! i could watch a whole movie (or multi-episode show) of them just having stupid banter while going about mundane tasks. it's also so profound though, i think — like, so much of loki's self-value comes from having thor's attention, so a lot of his schemes are about getting thor to pay attention to him in whatever way he can come up with. and then he *gets* what he's after, because thor is always gonna come get his stupid shitty cat of a brother out of whatever mess he's caused because that's just something thor does too. but then loki settles down and doesn't need to cause more problems, which means thor can go off and do whatever else he wants to do, which sets loki off again and they do the whole thing over. idk i love the circularity of it, it feels very appropriately god-like that the cycle is self-renewing and potentially eternal

A NOTP I have with said character: i don't see the appeal of loki/tony stark...i might get it (they are both haughty and bitchy and self-important which i guess could be fun?) but unfortunately i really hate tony stark :p very sorry for this

A random headcanon: loki owns multiple garments from killstar

General Opinion over said character: he's a bitch and i like him so much (bit personal here but i have quite an emotional connection to mcu loki due to him (or, moreso, some versions of marvel comics loki) being one of few characters who does genderqueerness in a way i can relate to...back when i was going through some stuff related to my own identity i read agent of asgard and found it marvelously comforting)

OKAY. As promised. Re : Addison Montgomery Queen of Heterosexuality, Has Never Laid a Finger on a Woman Unless Her Job or The Male Gaze Demanded It.

I get it. I see it. I perfectly understand it. It makes sense, really, even if it hurts my soul. However.

I have many counterarguments. But for the sake of easing into it, and also, finally telling someone about this particular thought... let me just say... Savvy.

Best friend, ex-roommate, "hey, can I get a boudoir photoshoot done by you and you exclusively before they take my tits away, it will make you smile a hundred times more than Derek has in the entirety of this season", Savvy.

There is no way. No way. Those two didn't make out/sleep together at least once just for the thrill of it, no males to impress, no ovaries to take out. Just Addie, Savvy, bottles of wine, loneliness, stress, curiosity and my roommate is fucking hot thoughts.

(You can argue that that's the 0,5 in Addison's kinsey scale placement. That's fine. I can keep going <3)

back to Addison's maybe-possibly-or-not Sapphic adventures! Okay, first of all, I want your counterarguments! I bet they're great. Second of all:

Okay, NOW. Back to Addison/Savvy. I like the picture you're drawing (heh) and now I feel like I'm going to fall into my usual downfall of "I can't picture it so maybe I'll just try to write it dow-oh yeah, I can see this." I still struggle with seeing it, though. Bottles of wine, loneliness, stress, curiosity, this I can see, but why are there no guys around? Because our Addison is very, very good at finding a guy when she needs to scratch the itch. Too good. Maybe I can figure out a reason why there are no guys around?

I want your counterarguments! Because I still keep seeing Addison as Charlotte in that one Sex & the City thing where she tries to fit in with the power lesbians and finally they're like "that's all well and good, dear, but if you're not going - "

(Which is like a conversation probably most of us have had to have at some point!)

But like. We all have hot friends we don't hook up with! (Right? Or am I just old?)

Anyway, I'm into exploring Addison/Savvy. So to speak. But just for the attention chance to write something different.

wears her heart on her sleeve, but she’s also pretty practical as well so she doesn’t let her emotions control her except in the case of her having fallen in love once she does, she’s a goner

a wee bit of a serial dater. she’s young, pretty & single, so she just likes having fun & meeting people. when she is in a relationship, being monogamous isn’t an issue for her

she’s blocked out most of her childhood & she doesn’t like remembering/talking about it

traveling has been one of her passions throughout most of her adulthood, but she also has this dream of settling down with kids & a husband , but isn’t in any sort of rush to make that happen

The Keys To A Good Holiday (Lockecest, Folgers Fic)

I guess writing Folgers fic is officially a holiday tradition, since this is my third (and I’ve got tentative ideas for next year as well). This one, a Locke and Key installment, set sometime after the series ends (or so I imagine, anyway... a few years in the future of where it currently stands at S2)

The Keys to A Good Holiday

I got way too into the lore and backstory to how Tyler and Kinsey got to the point where they are in their relationship in this story, and to follow the Folgersfic format (which, in my mind, requires attempting to work in every line and most of the events from the commercial, changed only to fit the story and characters). Just coming up with why Tyler was returning from West Africa spawned a whole sub-idea that, not going to lie, I almost want to write as a separate series of adventures. Almost. But I don’t think I could pull off a set of stories about Tyler and Kinsey helping out a bunch of new characters in Nigeria (I’d already had to shamelessly mine everything I could remember from a couple books I’ve read set there in the hopes that what little detail I included had some shred of credibility).

But I hope a few of you enjoy it, anyway!

wlw fic recs coming up (and no, you didn’t sound demanding!)

I shall refer you, first of all, to my previous post of wlw book recs, but in the three months since that post, I’ve read several more very enjoyable wlw books. (BTW, I still highly recommend Finding Jessica Lambert if you don’t mind age-gap romance!)

Wrong Number, Right Woman by Jae which features a butch lesbian who’s not a skinny beanpole and a slightly younger woman who starts out the story thinking she’s het and then realises, no, she’s not! It also features a trans woman (the ‘straight’ woman’s best friend) whose presence in the story is neither downplayed nor overplayed. Heather is simply Eliza’s best friend and her being trans is no big deal. This story reminded me of the Berena story in some ways. As a bonus it’s currently only 99p on Kindle!

Budding Romance and Blooming in the Sun by Lara Kinsey about two older Sapphic women, one’s just founded her own school for girls and the other is the butch gardener whom the school head employs.

Now and Again by Natasha West is a second-chance romance about two young women who haven’t seen each other in a decade when one was crushing on the other in school!

Through the Roof by Natasha West (what can I say, I’m a fan!) is again an age-gap romance (though they’re both into adulthood) about an older woman who’s a long-term presenter on a TV magazine show and the younger woman who comes in to co-present after the older woman’s male presenter is on sick leave for a couple of weeks.

Still Life by L T Smith is about an art teacher and her student falling in love. Be warned, there’s some discussions of past abuse by a previous lover in this one, but it doesn’t go into graphic detail.

Venus & Aphrodite by Barbara Winkes is about a young woman who dares to open a restaurant despite having no experience in the restaurant trade and the woman whom she hires as her chef.

When Netflix released the first trailer for the new show I had no idea what it was. But I thought my husband was a big fan. So I sent him the trailer and he had no idea what it was but was super enthused. So much so we made a horrible mistake, well I should say he made a horrible mistake. He went and bought the entire run of the graphic novel the show is based on. And man we ate it up.

Now the show has arrived and I’m having a hard time differentiating the two to be honest. So my first suggestion is, watch the show before reading the books. While the two are the same overall story they take some different approaches to the same goal.

The show features the Locke’s a family of five living their lives in Seattle when tragedy strikes and the family witnesses the brutal murder of their husband and father. In an effort to keep things together Nina, the surviving wife and mother to Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode, packs up the family and returns to the east coast and to her husband’s ancestral home, Key House. Where her husband’s brother, Duncan, has been sort of neglecting the gothic/victorian homestead.

It’s here that Bode, the youngest of the Lockes, stumbles across the secrets of Key House. Keys, magical and secretive. They only reveal themselves to children and adults soon forget they exist and even the fantastical things they witnessed the keys do.

Over the course of the first season the Locke children learn about their father, Rendell, and his brother Duncan’s fantastic adventures when they were young and growing up in Key House. But something dark lingers, something from the past that’s trapped and wants the keys for itself.

The graphic novel was created in part by Joe Hill, son of the well-known horror author Stephen King, and a bit of a horror novelist himself. He also has writing and producing credits on the show, but in my opinion, the show doesn’t rise to the same level of intrigue and even horror like origins of the comics. That isn’t to say the series is bad. We enjoyed it although we felt that some of the choices made didn’t live up to the tight writing in the books.

Some times decisions are made, and while they even try to explain why said actions were taken, it suffers from “this has to happen so we can move forward” plotting.

The casting is pretty decent. Bode is played by Jackson Robert Scott, who we last saw as Georgie in the IT films. Bode is the primary figure in the books, but in the show he takes a back seat to his older siblings played by Connor Jessup and Emilia Jones, Tyler and Kinsey respectively. The show becomes a mix of fanciful Goosebumps storytelling with teen coming of age angst. Tyler struggles with his father’s death because he thinks he might have set it in motion and Kinsey struggles with her fear now having the best of her. Both Connor and Emilia shine in their parts, and they really feel like siblings who love their younger brother but at the same time are dealing with their own things.

Nina, played Darby Stanchfield, has a particularly meaty part when the sobriety of the Locke’s mother comes into play. But among all of the performances, I think I best love that of Laysla De Oliveira, who plays … well, the villain. It’s hard to get into any specific details about her part without giving away things I’d prefer not to know if I was coming into the show with no knowledge of the content.

But the biggest problem is just some of the changes. The Locke’s have a weird plot armor that wasn’t present in the books in how they can accept and give keys in their possession. In the books nothing prevents anyone from taking a key from any of the Locke children, but in the show, it’s thrown out that they have some connection. It makes for some “well I guess that’s the end of that” conflicts that sort of steal away the drama.

But aside from that, this is a great show to watch with friends and family. There are some really fantastical ideas and while the show never gets as graphic as the books it still manages to have some great “oh wow” moments.

The season ends in a place the books never really went, but know what’s ahead I can still see where they’re going with it.
