y'all i cannot believe wwdits is a real show. SPECIFICALLY season 4. it is a gay sitcom (i use the term sitcom loosely) that is not explicitly about being gay, but queerness is woven into every piece of it. it's not just "oh this show is about queer people being queer" but it's "it's about vampires and the supernatural, but their queerness is also important to the narrative." it makes jokes about being gay, but being gay is never the butt of the joke. we get symbolism and metaphors AND we get characters explicitly saying they're gay. it's natural. it's actually funny and not just trying to make gay jokes or characters just to tick a diversity box. there is no character that only exists as "the gay character."

i am just so thankful to be living in a time where we have shows like this coming out. even ten, twenty years ago we would be hard pressed to find shows with such diverse and vibrant queer representation and narratives. and as a queer writer/creative i am so so grateful that this is the direction we're headed in.

#wwdits #what we do in the shadows #this applies to ofmd too #and ofc indie creators have always been making content like this. but the fact that we're starting to see it on an even broader scale is so #and let me specify i'm not dissing like. queer teen dramas or other 'stereotypical gay shows' bc those are important #to the history of queer ppl in tv and movies #but i am just so glad that now we're getting so many shows that are like #vampire dramas and pirate comedies and fantasies and sci-fis and everything #that get to be unabashadly and unapologetically and authentically queer #without the only marketing point or writing being #this character is gay! oh no!#i hope that makes sense #and also need i say again that guillermo is FAT and GAY and LATINO while also being portrayed as THE badass heart throb ever #god...this show...

🇲🇽 working on a story based in pre-colonial Latin mythology because not only is it my cultural background, but there's just not enough of myth fan art/expansion.

I'm prob gonna throw this on a separate side blog, so if you're interested to learn more or exchange ideas, look forward to it 🇲🇽

To introduce- we follow Cocijo here, who is the rain God (he has several names depending on the region- famously known as Chaac)

In my story, he uses his ability to make clouds and storms in combat.

In myth, he usually wields an axe and has 2 serpents with him- which I added on his poncho and come into play later.

Most Latin gods had animalistic traits but could pretty much take shape as they saw fit.

As one of the main gods, Cocijo here has jaguar eyes, ears, and feet.

These songs represent our fight against oppression and unfortunately real combatants challenging us disrespectfully and dishonorably, thus the Burnt Silk. It is also anchored by powerful insights and soulful intricate songwriting, surely blessed builds.

No one can listen to this and not recognize the genius of the Hawk, King Kamaal's executive direction, arranging, astonishing expert lyricism and technique, soulful harmonizing and Mayfield groove. My improvement of leaps and bounds this year from our first LP to here has so much to do with the rehearsing and education King provides and then a freedom to create without hindrance.
