I need more selkie theon (and asha. I just think that would be a vibe. fuck the greyjoy sigil being a kraken for a moment and let them be seals) content.
like the opportunity to have theon's coat taken by ned when he's made his ward is right there and it is perfect and beautiful and tragic.
and you could build on that depending on the version of the selkie myth/story you're going off of (I personally love the song of the sea version of selkies for story writing). maybe he can't talk without it, maybe he gets sick, maybe his voice has magical properties of sorts.
I have this one concept in my head that I don't have the time to write, but it goes something along the lines of theon getting sick after years away from his coat and the stark kids have to find his coat and drag his slowly dying ass to the bay of seals (cause y'know bay of seals and theon's a selkie so he'll turn into a seal... I thought it was creative).
also, in a lot of versions of selkies, when they get sick, their hair turns white, which is on brand for theon. they're also pretty, their stories are typically soaked to the bone in tragedy, they're normally held captive/tortured, amongst other things, which are also very on brand for theon.
and maybe you get some selkie to selkie telepathy of sorts, so when theon finally enter the water a seal again, asha books it to come find him, cause its been years since she's been able to feel him (I'm soft for them, I will create the most improbable and ridiculous scenario's to bring them together and for them to have soft sibling moments).
all and all, theon being a selkie is something I need more content of, please and thank you.
#theon would be a harbor seal and asha would be a leopard seal. I don't make the rules.#I think theon being a selkie would just be cool#like. it would make him being a ward all the more interesting. there's the potential for him to be stripped of his *skin* and his *voice*#and to keep him from the sea would be even more cruel#then there's the different ways you could give him magical properties. he could be enchantingly beautiful. his voice could be magical. he-#could bring good luck to ships. he could have a song that held a specific power of sorts.#there's just so many possibilities and I have many thoughts#also just imagine the starklings. at the very least robb and jon (who barely wants to be there but went for moral support) stealing theon-#and going on a 'roadtrip' to the bay of seals. theon's looks about ready to keel over. robb's panicking. jon's sulking.#the whole of the north is currently hunting them down. cause y'know. the heir to winterfell suddenly dissapeared into the night with the-#ward and the bastard. it would be chaos.#and asha reuniting with her brother in their seal forms. it'd be cute. cause they're chubby little blops and they'd boop each other.#and theon having to decide if he wants to stay with his found family or escaping back to pyke with his sister now that he has the chance.#someone write this. take the idea. just tag me so I can read it#theon greyjoy#asha greyjoy#yara greyjoy#house greyjoy#throbb#vaguely. the potential is right there#got#game of thrones#asoiaf#a song of ice and fire#selkies

For "your court of owls batfam" au , how would Bruce react if Cobb ever got seriously hurt to the point of maybe having to be replaced? Also how do Dick and Jason feel about Cobb? Do they get along or is it strictly professional?
MWAHAHA I GOT ONE PERSON INTERESTED IN THIS AU ALREADY! *cheers*
Okay so Talon lore is that very little can keep a Talon down permanently. They can even regrow limbs if given enough time! So that’s neat. But basically replacing Talons isn’t a practice often exercised.
I know the Court canonically tried getting rid of Cobb in the Court of Owls saga because he got defeated by Batman and they didn’t think he’d “recover from the shame of being so thoroughly deafeated”.
It therefore stands to reason that he’s aware that he’s easily replaceable (there is always more than one Talon at any given time, although stored away in cryo usually) if he doesn’t perform to the Court’s expectations. Cobb is the best, been the best, Talon for over a century (?) now, but that means nothing if he fails to fulfill his missions.
So let’s say Cobb gets heavily injured by something that shouldn’t have been much of a challenge for a Talon. Let’s say his inattention/hubris/whatever nearly gets Bruce killed—-
That would be scandalous.
For one, his injuries will take several weeks to heal. Weeks in which the Voice will be virtually defenseless without their Talon. This is unacceptable.
And Two, some regular two bit criminals should have never been able to best a Talon in such a way. It’s a disgrace to the Court.
No, no, a new Talon must take Cobb’s place now. He has become obsolete. His services have been appreciated, but, “oh, you understand dear Talon, don’t you? The weak must be culled from the flock”.
And Cobb understands. He does. He’d thought- he thought he’d have more time, though. Time to convince Bruce to let him train the boy after all, to make sure his Voice is protected even after Cobb is gone. That the Court’s machinations will not see Bruce dead before the year is done because the new Talon will not know that Bruce is the best thing to have happened to the Court in a century. They will end up killing Bruce, killing Dick— (he shouldn’t care- he doesn’t care. He doesn’t. He doesn’t. He doesn’t-)
But then Bruce storms into the labs like the onset of a hurricane, all righteous fury and indignation, Dick hot on his heels (wide eyed and still too little with not enough training to hold out against the new Talon long enough to at least escape) demanding what the fuck is going on and why his Talon isn’t back by his side yet.
And he doesn’t accept the scientists’ reasonings that Cobb has done his duty; has become “outdated”. Doesn’t accept the reassurances of the “new one” being just as good— no, better, than the previous one. Doesn’t accept that a new Talon is supposed to protect him now. (“Him or none,” Bruce says, tone colder than the permafrost of the arctic, and at his side Dick’s eyes flash with unvoiced threat. “Now get out of my way.”)
As to the relationship between Cobb and the kids, well. His and Dick’s relationship is tense at first. Cobb has no interest being anything of a family to him despite their blood relations. He only sees Dick as a potential new (and perfect) Talon that could keep Bruce safe if he himself is deemed “outdated”. He’s not happy about all the potential “going to waste” by Dick being made Bruce’s ward, being allowed to live a sort of normal life. But once Dick approaches him for some training in physical combat… well. Sorry, Cobb tried. He really did. But Dick Grayson invented charisma, and even Cobb isn’t immune. He grudgingly starts liking the kid but will deny that until he’s blue in the face. Dick ends up being the Gray Son of Gotham, the highest ranking court member after Bruce with the training of a Talon.
With Jason it’s more straight forward. At first Cobb is pissed at Bruce for taking in a “street rat” and intending to adopt him, but… well, Jason grows on him “like fungus” (a direct quote). At first Cobb doesn’t really know what to make of Jason. The kid is loud and aggressive, but shrinks away like a wilting flower at the first signs of someone raising their voice. (He’s soft, Cobb thinks. The Court will eat him alive.)
But Jason’s also got a spine of steel as he clearly demonstrates when he jumps Cobb with a knife after an unfortunate misunderstanding where he assumed Bruce was in danger of him, and that kind of loyalty at least he can work with. (The kid’s still soft inside as all get out, but he’s excellent at covering it up with violence and bravado, and his charm is that he’s honest in a way so utterly foreign to the Court that it endears him to all the trustworthy members within a few months).
Jason becomes The Heart of the Court, the morality that Bruce was starting to have trouble clinging to; keeping them all on the right path towards a better future. A better Gotham.
(Cobb absolutely loves the children as much as Bruce does. It just takes him a bit longer to get there. And Jason is his favorite sorry I don’t make the rules. COUGH.)

Hello!
I have looked through your masterlist but didn’t find anything platonic for Starscream, so maybe you would find this prompt interesting?
What if TFP Decepticons caught a young reader (teenage to early twenties ig) and Megatron forced Starscream to deal with them? How would he react to gradually growing more and more protective of his ward? How would he react to the reader growing attached to him in return? I feel like there it so much potential in a found family dynamic of papa!Starscream and the youngin’ he’s supposed to take care of 🥹 can be a drabble or headcannons, up to you ✨
I usually use "reader" in the masterlist for platonic stuff and "s/o" for romantic stuff, so there should be some for Starscream too, at least I’m pretty sure. I kinda just rambled about whatever came to mind
•Starscream was not very happy about being assigned as your babysitter
•You’re of course an adult and don’t need any babysitting, but dealing with giant alien robots is very new for you, so it’s not too bad to have someone helping out with the adjustment
•If you can really call it helping
•Starscream is annoyed all the time, mostly because he doesn’t really know how to deal with a human
•I mean he barely knows how to get along with his own species, so how is he supposed to get along with someone who he has nothing on common with
•On the other hand he doesn’t really care if he gets along with you, he just wants to keep you alive as Megatron ordered
•At least that’s the case at first, but when you’re stuck with each other pretty much all the time you start to grow on him
•You were never really very scared of him, but of course he did make you nervous because of his size and winning personality /s
•He doesn’t really even notice how much he comes to enjoy your company
•Starscream is honestly kind of scared of feeling comfortable with someone, even if he doesn’t realize it himself
•He’s never really had that before, since the decepticons are not exactly a warm and fuzzy bunch
•He ends up being pretty protective of you, but he’s terrified that you’d see him like he sees himself and that you’d hate him
•You’ve also got your insecurities, and even though you rarely talk about them, he’s not blind
•Even though Starscream is very self centered, when you get into his circle, he also extends that same treatment to you
•And there is no one else in his circle than you, since he’s never connected with anyone like that
•You and Starscream talk a lot of shit about what’s going on at the Nemesis, you both love some good gossip, especially if it can be beneficial to either of you
•Starscream doesn’t really trust that pleasant feeling he has about his connection with you, because feelings like that have never lasted before, someone always betrays or leaves him
•But when you tell him he’s like family to you, he just sort of leaves the room, because he doesn’t know how to react
•He’s happy about it, but again, major trust issues
•You’ve grown close, and even though building trust has been a long process, it’s been worth it

For worm/ward questions: Who would be the most interesting Undersider and Breakthrough members to swap teams?
I think Bitch and Ashley are similar enough that you could plausibly see them sticking with each team or being recruited, while also having radically different outcomes.
Ashley is of course far more destructive without therapy or her medication, and her power makes fights a lot more deadly for everyone involved while removing the option for the Undersiders being getaway experts. On the other hand, Lisa isn’t out in the field due to Ashley not caring, so they likely switch up tactics completely.
She would like Brian’s professionalism but they had a LOT of conflict of personality and her desire for leadership. She and Alec would probably get along decently well, barring moments he pokes fun at her and things go awry. Lisa might latch onto her like she did with Taylor, if she gets the right info, but that could go really well or really poorly. Taylor would absolutely hear Ashley talk and think she’s a bona fide evil villain, maybe even comparing her to Emma, but I can see a chance for Taylor to see past her mask in quiet moments where Ashley tries to stop infighting. I think the big thing that can sway this is that Ashley would probably not stand for Coil treating Dinah this way. I’m 50/50 on her attacking him outright or shocking Taylor by siding with her immediately, because what Coil does pushes a lot of her buttons (plus she wants his spot). That would be interesting, to imagine this unlikely duo working together, and it might actually ruin the plan to return to the Undersiders post Leviathan if it’s not sincere enough.
Bitch is interesting, because WB has mentioned that she could benefit a lot with therapy and a positive environment with other kids her age, which I presume happens if she’s with Yamada. Entirely possible she gets sent to the same Asylum that Kenzie, Vic, and Sveta were at, having meet some or all of them before.
I imagine she’ll always be gruff, but a lot more overtly aware of that and sensitive to others, maybe having long since begun to treat them like dogs (affectionate). I can see her sympathizing with Byron’s situation of dealing with family while also coming to respect Tristan as a potential leader like she did Brian. Absolutely takes to Rain immediately like in canon, the two of them often discussing survivalist stuff and her becoming an unofficial protector for him. Chris and her actually get along fairly well, especially when they talk shop about dogs and medicine for them. Kenzie, Sveta, and Vic depends on what she knows of them. Possibly sees Kenzie as a very excitable and overly attached puppy, so some of her methods of dealing with her can be blunt, maybe too blunt at times. Sveta and Bitch may be a bit frayed, because Sveta can be a bit overbearing and preachy, and Bitch isn’t sensitive about the same things Sveta is, but they get along and understand how powers fucked them up. Victoria and Bitch, again depends, but I can see Victoria feeling trauma by comparing the mutant dogs to her flesh coffin, and Bitch being naturally wary of the new comer. I think there’s no real conflict though, not with this timeline switch, and ultimately they come out respecting each other like in canon. Bitch might help Vic understand Chris and bridge the two of them together…

Silly idea: The Disassembly Drones act as overprotective caretakers to Human Uzi and want to make sure that she is safe and sound until she gets extracted from the planet. Unfortunately the only place she can survive on it is the bunker where the worker drones live, and since they can’t murder them since Uzi would then refuse to cooperate they have to settle to an uneasy coexistence.
Would fit perfectly with N's personality. Like when your dog or cat decides to follow you to the kitchen or bathroom even though you'll be coming right back to the living room in just a minute. Can even keep the "quite saving me" line in.
As for V, while she is hostile in the original, how she'd act around human Uzi is up for interpretation of her character. We can see she has a habit of round about protection with N, trying to keep him from remembering what happened back at the manor and digging too deep into the solver. And we start to get a glimpse of her being protective over original series Uzi in episode 6 now that she's warmed up to her. So I could see her being overprotective, probably creating conflict be over reacting to anything a worker drone does around Uzi.
Then there's J. There are two ways to go with her, either she sticks around to oversee this new protection mission, or you kill her off again to send her to Tessa like in the original. If she stuck around, I feel she'd act like a cross between a helicopter parent and bodyguard, much to Uzi's annoyance. J's strict, all business personality could easily lead to treating her more like a prisoner than as a ward. Personally, I lean slightly more towards killing her off. I would be fascinating to play with the idea of her as Uzi's unwanted protector. But if she's killed off, it could make for an interesting encounter with Tessa. If killed off, J could give Tessa a very biased explanation to Tess about the situation. And if you really want to go crazy with it, you could have Nori be involved in killing her, meaning J could tell Tessa that Nori is infected with the Absolute Solver. Creating a similar situation to what's happening between Tess and Uzi in episode 6.
Speaking of Nori. This opens up a gold mine of potential dynamics to explore between the disassembly drones and Uzi's parents. How would Khan and Nori react to some sky demons becoming overly protective of their daughter? We know Khan to be a big ol coward in the show, but now that his wife hasn't been killed by them. How would that change his reaction to them? Then we have Nori. These are the monsters she's been making prophetic drawings of, and convinced her husband to construct giant doors to keep at bay. Now they're hanging out in her living room watching her daughter like hawks.
I think the dynamic between Nori and V would be especially interesting. We saw how V reacted to learning Uzi has the solver in the original. Now she's meeting a solver drone that actually knows about what the Absolute Solver is and what she's doing. Depending on how you want to interpret what we've seen of Nori. She may also know about CYN from when she was taken over at the labs. She could also know a lot more about the disassemblers right off the bat. Not that's she'd be too open to sharing that info. She'd have good reason to keep the solver at bay to protect her daughter.
Which creates both a hostility between Nori and V but also a shared goal of keeping as much about the Absolute Solver from N and Uzi as they can.
And then there's Nori and Tessa. That scenario is absolutely rich with possibilities.

Soft/hard head canons for Shen Jiu 🙌
finishing off the last few of these in my inbox...this is an interesting one because like with other characters I feel like my headcanons for Shen Jiu in particular are less "hard" and "soft" than "malleable and story dependent" outside of, like, what we know textually. but let's see what I've got.
also sometimes as usual I don't know that I have headcanons one way or the other until I run into someone contradicting them, which I think has happened here but struggling to think of something specific...
hard headcanon: While the personality change from Shen Jiu!Shen Qingqiu to Shen Yuan!Shen Qingqiu is undoubtedly pretty drastic (and I really can't think about that plot point too long, it makes me feel Real Bad), I think a lot of the original goods' behavior is more self-fulfilling than inevitable or unchangeable. I mean, this feels like a definite theme in SVSSS generally (and in MXTX's works as a whole) - that people are not definitively and unchangeably Bad, that change is possible for people, even seemingly awful ones. (I mean, the entire arc of Luo Binghe's character transformation, for one.)
I actually think a lot of Shen Qingqiu's behavior was self-fulfilling prophecy - I mean, this is pretty firmly textually canon as of the Shen Jiu extras, I believe. He decides that people are going to hate him and therefore he acts in a way to justify and confirm that hatred. I love a self-sabotaging, self-isolating bitter asshole! I really do. That then calcifies, but not actually as much as I think Shen Qingqiu believes - he seems convinced that all his fellow Peak Lords will hate him forever so why bother trying, but we see in canon that they actually turn around on him fairly quickly when his behavior changes, which suggests to me a willingness to change their minds that I don't think Shen Qingqiu would believe in.
It is so firmly entrenched in Shen Qingqiu's head that he is loathsome and rotten and there's no changing that, that he can't imagine anyone seeing anything else. Given that, his expressed hostility is a way of warding people off at least from seeing any vulnerability, because it's not like he has anything to lose: in his head, he never had their affection or even respect. I think Shen Qingqiu would always be kind of bad at being a person and not terribly sociable, but I do think if he made an effort he would get more of a response than he would expect or believe would happen.
Also I think that at least one of the reasons he continues to push Yue Qingyuan away so hard despite the fact that he cares very deeply for him is because he wants to see if he'll keep coming back. Even if it's just out of guilt, and that's the last thing he wants, at least he does still come back, and that is, pathetically, better than nothing. Which just makes him angrier and makes things worse. Good times!
soft headcanon: The Ning Yingying question is one that I feel like I have a few different potential reads on - by which I mean to say, the particularities of the accusation that he was somehow inappropriate with her. The firm part of it is that I don't think he actually would make sexual advances on her (or any female students); my read on Shen Jiu is pretty firmly gay but sex-repulsed to the point that he's situationally ace. Where I do have headcanon variations is what, exactly, did happen - whether there was a misread somewhere by Yingying that got blown up as the forming picture of Shen Qingqiu as a lecher became more defined and absolute (i.e. reinterpretation of a past event that maybe felt funny in retrospect even if it seemed innocent at the time, or even something that felt a little awkward or inappropriate at the time but wasn't meant sexually, but that then becomes something bigger), or whether it was entirely false rumor, boosted by Shen Qingqiu treating his female disciples better than his male disciples and being particularly fond of Ning Yingying.
If the latter, then why doesn't she say anything? That seems like a pretty clear answer to me: in PIDW she's very much pushed into a passive role, and Luo Binghe is a strong enough personality with enough force of will that I can see her not feeling able to contradict him, and/or I can see her being convinced that it doesn't matter what she remembers, everything else is true and bad enough that one more thing is just going to ensure that Shen Qingqiu can't hurt anyone else, and/or that it's only fair if upsetting for Luo Binghe to have his revenge.
Basically: while I pretty firmly don't think Shen Qingqiu (original flavor) made any advances on Ning Yingying, I can see a few different ways that situation might have played out leading to it becoming another point against him at the trial.
I also wobble on how far I think the abuse went with Qiu Jianluo - whether it went all the way to rape or just ("just") the threat of it up to the point when Shen Jiu killed him.

The balders gate squad would be especially interesting with an inexperienced/virgin Tav (thinking few or no romantic and or sexual partners)
Obviously their first order of business is to make fun of you, and then tease you, and also bully you, and finally to make it a permanent inside joke.
But having someone so untouched by the wounds of love and lust also makes them protective- especially Gale, Astarion who found that sex ruined lives and left unhealed wounds.
Lae'zel and Wyll are protective, wrongly assuming that your inexperience means innocence. They cannot help but want to preserve your singleness- as in actively stepping in when you are flirted with. Something about you being so untouched makes the knightly instincts in them rise. This isnt to keep your purity, its to keep you from being used for your body. Laezel is also considerate of your emotional affections as well, seeing it as predatory for people to receive (or gods forbid pursue) your affections when they have no intention of bedding you.
Wyll is practical, polite, safe, and just gently teasing. He encourages you to have casual sex if you are interested but then basically talks himself into being scared for you. "They must be clean. They had better be able to afford a room in a tavern at least. Of course they should open the door for you. Don't bed with anyone who talks ill of their sister. Oh and-"
Lae'zel pulls a lot of "lmao lameass virgin" rhetoric. You say ANYTHING and shes like "how would you know when you've always entered a cold bed?" because it is so amusing to her. That being said she is possessive of her band members and distrustful of everyone else. She doesn't want you to be looking for any hookups because she assumes you will somehow sleep with the shadiest dangeriest serial killer near the gate.
Shadowheart is the most neutral about this, a very "its just ok" stance towards the carnal acts. There are more important things in life and if the (idiot horndogs) other party members are anything to go by, you aren't missing out on much. But she will tell you to accept any flirtatious advances so long as Lae'zel is within earshot to get upset by her words
Gale believes you should get some ass! Its good stress relief! Just dont go too crazy with your feelings and try to choose someone of equal power and social standing so theres not weird imbalances ha ha...ha.
Astarion....yikes. half "oh well i can fix that for you ;))" and half "never let anyone into your bed it will never end well". He can't decide if he likes you too much to sleep with you or too much to not sleep with you.
Karlach is conflicted because on one hand she would totally be out there if she could but on the other, she can't exactly project her feelings onto you. If you express any interest in getting a hookup then she starts going "oh! what about her? ah no wait, look at his hips! sleep with him!" as if you could just waltz over there and sleep with whomever you wanted (Karlach believes you could do it). But if you mention anything about emotional intimacy she completely understands and becomes your number one defender- which isn't helpful. She does a lot of "Tav hasn't found the right one yet, you are all just jealous because you sleep around like whores >:I" and then both of you are being laughed at
Now if they begin to develop romantic or sexual feelings towards you, all of them of course want you out of the market. No more shopping, you have a delicious body at home to enjoy.
Some are more aggressive about warding off potential suiters (Lae'zel, Astarion, Karlach) while others take a subtle approach (Gale, Shadowheart) and Wyll is a nice mixture of firm and polite. Of course if you feel deeply compelled to sleep with someone they won't stop you- just present themselves as an annoying obstacle to step over. And of course they will cross their fingers that whatever bitch's bastard you are sleeping with fails to meet your expectations.

I think we should talk more about post canon Cas, Meg, Baltazar and Crowley dynamics
Post canon because it's easy to work on the dynamics after everything is said and done.
Both Batlh and Meg are important to Cas and see Crowley as a threat. And I am talking about a scenario where Crowstiel are testing waters with their relationship
For Meg, throughout their saty at the ward and after Cas came back from purgatory, Crowley was trying to kill him. She basically died to keep Crowley away from Cas
She won't have the best relationship with her killer after she comes back.
And when Baltazar died, Cas was working with Crowley and it was one of the biggest problems everyone had.
I think they both would be scared and worried and angry.
I also think Meg would come around quicker.
For a bunch of reasons
Killing baltazar is something that weighs a lot on Cas, he won't just approach Balth except for an apology.
and the way in which Castiel's relationship with heaven worsened. He is likely to confide more in Meg and Crowley and even Rowena.
Like from heaven's and Baltazar'a pov, they will have Cas spending time with demons he is too find of for the angels to be comfortable.
Also Meg would get a long with Rowena, I just know it and they will gang up on Crowley. And Crowley will make rulling Hell, hell by being the master of the Hellhounds.
That's something that would be interesting and funny and has lot of potential
Comming back to angels, they will take a long time to come around each other. There is a lot of pain and hurt and betrayal amongst them.
Also fixing relationships between Cas and angels will start only after Cas deals with the crushing guilt he lives with.
Like there is so much explored of these characters.
I have no idea why SPN writes insisted to making those two flannel clad nightmares the main characters, the only thing that can be done with them is
I lied to my brother-I messed up-my brother is in danger- we broke the world
It gets boring after third round
What you have here all makes sense and I agree, can be interesting to think about.
However I'm not sure it would be "post canon". Canon-wise, Jack brought back those Chuck killed-- but I don't get the sense he brought back "everybody who had ever been killed"? granted, I didn't really watch 5x19 and 5x20, and certainly not the "prequel", so I could be missing some information, but I wouldn't think post finale universe includes resurrected Meg and Balthazar.
The show's storylines for angels is done with such absolute malice and disdain it's pretty much impossible to explore it fairly without going non-compliant with canon. The whole thing about Balthazar is so senseless, that I just think it doesn't even deserve to be "resolved" as if it was an organic storyline. I intend to stay in denial, anyway.
So, you should definitely explore these things as you like, I'd only suggest there is no need to tie it to canon.

Chariot!
Another minor character for the collection.
Chariot is fascinating to me because we know so little about him. We get the bare minimum of his personality, that he's driven more by money and wanting to upgrade his tech than any ideological pursuits. Which he why he works for Coil. More thoughts under the cut.
We don't know his Trigger Event. We don't know how long he's had powers. We don't know if he's purely a Tinker or if he has a Thinker sub ability to cope with the enhanced speed his tech provides. We don't even know if the woman that Kid Win meets when visiting him is actually Chariot's mother or a Coil merc. And we certainly don't know what happened to him after Coil's death.
There's three possibilities for what happened to him. He's dead. He got captured and jailed by the PRT. Or, he escaped and laid low until Gold Morning.
Judging by how useful his tech is, being able to completely mimic Mover abilities, even sought after ones like teleportation, and how he's not mentioned at any point after him being jailed isn't the most likely to me.
Personally, I like to think he escaped and laid low, and survived Gold Morning. Afterwards, I think he'd likely become a mercenary again, maybe even being a part of the Mall Cluster's entourage of mercs, given how well his tech would intersect with their Mover abilities. I do also have a scenario I like where he ends up teaming up with Blockade (the daughter of Bastion, number 1 Vista traumatizer), and another Tinker that makes Brute-mimicking gear to become a heist crew. Something I might explore in future art.
Also, I find it interesting that he could have tech based on most of the other Brockton Wards. Like, slow-down grenades (Clockblocker), terrain shortening (Vista), hover tech (Kid Win), a flight pack (Glory Girl, not technically a Ward but y'know), and so on. Plus all the other Brockton capes with Mover abilities he could have potentially scanned, or the Tinkers whose tech he could have studied (especially Squealer). Chariot just has the potential to be an utter power house.

The reasons to need to write and read Reverse Robins AU
Damian having a place with his long-awaited father. A father who is not neglectful and who still can show he cares. Who can still talk to him. And a father he doesn't have to share with someone, yet. and this.
_^
Bruce having to mature in order to be a parent. And NOT having Dick Grayson as a ward. At least not now. Bruce adapting to the idea of having his own family. Bruce having to actually talk and explain things to the little creature who was raised in a VERY different environment. Bruce getting out of his head a little. Growing up a little before getting a kid. Because Bruce can't have 8-12 y o Damian being 24 y o himself, sorry.
Exploring Tim Drake's potential outside of a very weird comic character who is loved by many people on Ao3 but non-existent on it. Outside of Robin, too. Also: Tim Drake Can Do Wrong. Tim Drake Does Wrong. Letting him be an interesting character.
Letting Jason Todd be a Robin (or Shrike, or whatever Batman's partner called in different RR!AUs) he used to be before DC decided he was just an angry incompetent sidekick Who Didn't Listen and Got Himself Killed. Letting him be good again. And yes, he was good. and I absolutely adore the idea of Damian as a big brother.
Dick getting a big family of very different people who have different opinions - after a terrible loss. Dick growing up healthier than he did. Dick not jumping into vigilante life. Or at least not for long. Or at least not in SUCH YOUNG AGE, BATMAN. Dick getting a whole bunch of people who have no problem with him at all and who start to love him almost immediately. And looking after him better so he doesn't get a chance to run without pants on the Gotham streets.
Very different roles of Barbara Gordon, Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown.
How did Cassandra Cain end up in Gotham? Did No Man's Land happen? WILL it happen? Does she have a name? Who named her if not Barbara Gordon? Did she get ability to speak? Did she die like comic version? Was she a Batgirl?
STEPHANIE BROWN GETTING BETTER TREATMENT, DC!!!!! Did she become a Robin (/whatever you call it) as well? Did she get the same relationship with Damian as canon? Who is she as a young girl without canon!Bruce's and canon!Tim's bullshit? Do she and Cassandra Cain get along? Is she a Batfamily member in the AU or does she have canon-like role outside of it?
Do the Birds of Prey exist?
Exploring how Damian's Robin (/whatever you call it) would look like; and how it would affect the Bat-Clan.
Exploring the relationships between Robins (/whatever you call it) and other young heroes. Exploring the other hero families who most likely are reversed too.
The hero names. Capes. Histories.
Exploring how all of it would affect Gotham and Gotham's criminals. Rogues, too.
What the hell is going on with Duke Thomas???? I honestly have no idea how I would put him into my AU... but he's also part of Rebirth if I'm not mistaken? so I actually don't have too. He is a wonderful character (HE IS SO COOL. SO. COOL.) and my lack of imagination has nothing to do with me loving or hating him.
Talia al Ghul.
Talia al Ghul.
Talia al Ghul.
Changing events without changing what you like about it.
also I don't care about Ra's al Ghul BUT Batman Chronicles #8 make me think about him a lot.
inspired by @msfcatlover's AUs. And some others. And mine, too.

You said you like Stranger Things in one of your asks, who's your favourite character? Also which character do you personally most relate to and which character do you find the most interesting and/or complex (and please feel free to elaborate in great detail!)
Hello, thank you for the ask! This is such a hard question but I'll try to answer to the best of my ability.
If I had to choose, my favourite character is probably Nancy. I mean, she's just really cool. I love how she's evolved over the seasons and how it reflects on her physical character design (hair, costume, etc). I love how she interacts with the people around her because it is so interesting. For example, in the fight she has with Jonathan in S3, she is trying to show him the misogyny she's been facing and is getting extremely frustrated at him for not seeing it, but at the same time she is blind to the classism he's facing and his difficulties with his poverty. She didn't have ill intentions, she just felt so so strongly that she became sort of tunnel-visioned. I love her passion, how she sees everything around her with a need for justice, how everything is worth her time because she wants to know things. I LOVE that her career goal is a journalist because I could truly see her thriving in that when she finds a niche. I can't wait for her to leave Hawkins and go to university and find herself because she has this potential, this spark that makes her so unique from the other characters to me. Whenever she's on screen it's HER scene, you know.
Funnily enough, the character I would say I relate most to is Jonathan. Or kind of a mix between him and Nancy. He also has this immense passion, like Nancy, but his is like a precise volt of energy into his photography and he hides this passion beneath a dark exterior that he hopes will ward people off. I may be a terrible photographer, but I relate to the concentration of all of your fervency into this one part of life that gives you a sense of being needed. Jonathan needs to feel needed. We can see that in how he's falling off the rails in S4, because his brother doesn't really need him anymore - Will is growing up, Nancy is busy in a whole other state, El has Will and Joyce - and Jonathan is lost without being needed by these people, so he turns to weed for an escape because it stops him thinking. (BIG FUCKING RELATE).
I fucking love Jonathan. I need him to catch a break because he's been through so much. Anyway, I'm not sure what else I can say about him, because there is SO much. I could make another post about Jonathan if anyone would be interested - I could make it far more organised than this.
You also asked who I found most fascinating, but I suppose I've sort of covered that, so I'll just ramble on a bit about some pairings I like? (You invited this I'm afraid.)
As one may guess I absolutely love Jonathan and Nancy. I don't think their relationship is the healthiest but that doesn't stop me being obsessed with everything about their pairing and the aesthetic of it. I think daily about that scene of them lining up their scars. What they want through was unique to them and they found themselves in each other when the trauma made them feel alone. They wound themselves together because all of their pain was reflected in eachother - and while that's not a great reason to start dating, I truly think they fell in love with eachother as they did this, and I can't blame them for wanting to find the slightest bit of comfort after what they went through. I love how dark and twisted the reason for their love is. I love how softly they hold eachother despite it. I love how they talk about the other when they're not there, how despite all of the darkness in their lives, they're eachother's anchor to the real world. I love how their career goals line up, the journalist and the photojournalist, and I love how Nancy brings Jonathan's passion out of him and let's him show it in front of her without being afraid of being judged, and he let's her follow her dreams, her thirst for knowledge, even if it means him losing the one girl who makes his life worth living. He's willing to leave her life if it means she can live it fully.
Anyway, some other dynamics I like are Will and Mike - romantically, Lucas and Max - romantically and Will and El - sibling dynamic. I really do hope Mike and Will can get together in the final season, because I think it would draw the show to this really nice close. Yes, the freak can have his true love. He can be loved because he is a freak, he is different - they're both different, but with eachother they're Kings of the world. Society's expectations don't matter when they have eachother.
With Max and Lucas, they are just so sweet. Lucas might not fully understand Max's depression and grief, but he wants to understand it. Something about that complete devotion, even when Max isn't being herself, just pulls at my heart. I really want an unconditional love like that. Max might've thought that Lucas was changing, that he wouldn't care about her after becoming popular - but then he's there, when she's almost died because of Vecna, and he's telling her I'm here, i'm here, I'm here, and he's holding her so tight that she can feel that he won't let anything happen to her. They are just like... soulmates. Seriously. They fit together like puzzle pieces and they NEED eachother. I really, really hope Max is cognitive in S5 because I need her and Lucas to just talk to eachother and hold hands and be teenagers in love despite the world falling apart around them. Yeah.
Sorry if I didn't make much sense, once again i wrote this all with no structure and just spoke my mind so it may seem disjointed. Hope I answered your question though and made it a bearable enough read.

Get To Know Store Manager Verse Eddie
What story is he from? What kind of story is it (Fix-it fic, Older!Eddie, Rockstar!Eddie etc)? My Eddie I'm going with it my original Eddie from Store Manager Verse. It's a sort of EveryoneLives! NoUpsideDown! Amalgam where Eddie works at StarCourt Mall and he meets a New Romantic interest in the Claire's Store Manager.
What inspired you to write this Eddie? I've worked retail forever and the horrors but then I moved to corporate. New job, no customers. But corporate teams usually go into the field and help during Q4 and especially in the special...department I work in? Christmas 2022 really made me ask "what if little Store Manager Jo had an Eddie who worked at her mall and she had a crush on him" and SMVerse was born.
What are your favorite headcanons about him/share something you never shared in your story? In my story, he had friends in his first stint through high school/senior year that left him behind and broke up the band. Then Corroded Coffin 2.0 was born with Jeff, Gareth, and Unnamed Freak (who I named Dave). Now that he's approaching a potential graduation with Jeff and some of them aren't...he's worried about Jeff leaving first, but the others shortly after. And then his band will have broken up a second time and what will he do then?
What does he wear on a casual day? On a dressier day? What does he wear to bed? Casual Day: Jeans, T-shirt, Flannel optional based on the weather. Jacket/Vest combo if he's going out. Dressy Day: Bought a nicer button down from Montgomery Ward, sleeves are rolled up, a few buttons undone. He's got the least offensive graphic tee he owns underneath it. Leather Jacket on top, no vest. (There's a Regional Manager visiting Tape World. Kyle is wearing a suit. He also bought sunglasses for all the guys to wear inside secret service style.) Pajamas: Summer, underwear only. Spring/Fall, no shirt, and either flannel pj bottoms or there's a pair of sweats that he's cut into shorts. Winter: Hoodie, sweats, thick socks
Favorite foods? Mountain Dew, Zebra Cakes, Pizza, Watergate salad. End of story. He also likes how reader makes pasta.
Tell Us About His Family/Friends I intentionally left it vague. Mom dead dad in jail, the usual. In SMVerse, Reefer Rick was his mom’s boyfriend for a short amount of time. That’s when things were really looking up in his life. He had a father figure (aside from Wayne) who loved and cared about him with no familial obligations. Mom was working, Rick obviously selling, Wayne working either driving or at the plant. It’s a mutual aid situation. Then his mom dies and Wayne and Rick share as much responsibility as possible because neither of them can do it alone. Wayne and Rick are both Vietnam war veterans? I don’t history good. So they have the benefit of being from the same down and going through the same shit and then they need to raise a kid they both love more than life. And he in turn would do anything for them.
Yeah Yeah, he's a Metalhead. Tell Us MORE About His Taste in Music in your story Oh GOD. Listen. He’s a fucking asshole about his music but if you’re respectful, he’ll be respectful. (If you’re his friend though, it’s extra disrespect). Aside from metal, he does enjoy the classics. He has some rock, he’s got some blues. His mom’s favorite were the Monkees and he listens to that tape to be close to her.
Eddie and Store Manager are currently in my WIPs listening to music and getting high. Stay tuned.
What are his views on romance? On sex? Sex is casual to him. It’s nice to feel nice. He’s slept with a few people, at parties where he’s made sales. He had a “girlfriend” that he thought was a girlfriend who was actually trying to get close to his friend Mickey. Kind of made him a little jaded. All of that to say, that specific event made him hesitate with saying anything to Store Manager. She reminds him SUPERFICIALLY of someone who hurt him and it’s easier to pine and keep her at arms length as a friend than potentially get hurt.
Is he optimistic or pessimistic? Pessimist. Next.
Where or with whom is he most comfortable? He’s most comfortable in his van. Home is home but is it really home? Wayne’s rarely there. Rick’s would have been home if his mom was still alive. He likes being with his friends and he is mostly with them at school which…blah. Or in the van.
What are his views of his future? What are his hopes/dreams? Music!!! music music music. He would like to be a musician and SPOILER he’s gonna be. Just not the fantastical rockstar we would wish for him. But he’s also debating what his future looks like as it pertains to Tape World. He likes it there. He likes being part of a team. Working with them, working with Kyle…he’s very much questioning what he wants.
Anything else you'd like us to know about your Eddie/your story? He’s the softest Eddie I’m gonna write. With the nicest future I think. He’s been dealt the easiest card out of all of them. No Upside Down. Got to have the most ideal childhood given his circumstances. AASB Eddie is harder for obvious reasons. STFF is going to be hard in his own way. But SMV!Eddie is the sweet boy we all need. He’s the sweet boy I need.

(part 1 of 4)
🔙 Chapter beginning ⬅ Previous chapter • Next part ➡ 📝 About the story and characters
The whole chapter (with bigger pictures!) can be found on Blogger already ;) Check the Blogger post for a short recap too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was the first warm spring day; warm enough for one to change into a bathing suit and hang out at a pool. And not just any pool, Heath had a membership to a luxurious rooftop club. He had invited his family to enjoy the view and warm water with him and Paige.   Paige had hoped they would've gone together, just the two of them but she was accustomed to having his family around. And spending time with both of her parents made Gracie happy, and Paige didn't mind Gracie being happy.
Tumblr media
Paige had asked River to tag along but she had been busy. It had happened a lot lately. River didn't seem busy, though, it almost felt like she was avoiding to come along as often as usual. Sometimes she agreed to come but cancelled at the last minute. When Paige had asked if everything was alright, River had made jokes and assured there was nothing to worry about. Paige wasn't completely convinced but she didn't want to be nosy.
Tumblr media
Her luck with Alex hadn't been any better. Unsurprisingly, he had come up with some obvious excuse to avoid spending time with so many people.   "You'd benefit from a little break!" she had said.   "I have my books for that," he had said and shrugged.   She had made him promise to join her next time.
Tumblr media
Paige had thought of bringing her work laptop along and doing some research for Autumn products and ad campaigns but Heath had convinced her to focus on relaxing. He couldn't convince himself, though. He had done work-related calls for two hours and there seemed to be no end.
Tumblr media
She had time to catch up on celebrity gossip. Judith Ward shared her thoughts on her career and her five marriages and whether she would get married again.   I love how unapolectic she is, Paige thought. People can be so nasty about her personal life and she doesn't give a damn.
Tumblr media
Venessa Jeong had been arguing with Judith's daughter Catalina (who was an aspiring DJ and influencer™) because they were after the same man. Their feud had been going on for some time and gossip hungry public loved it. And so did the magazines.   C*ntalina should keep her eyes off of my man! There's plenty of single men for her to flirt with, Venessa answered to the magazine.   When asked for a response, Catalina had just laughed childlishly and said they were living in a free country. Eventually he'll come to his senses and realise who's the funniest to be around...
Tumblr media
All that money and fame and still they have such mundane problems. But it's nice to see that their life isn't perfect either...
Tumblr media
Heath's ex Martina had been busy after their divorce. And during the marriage, if Paige had understood correctly. During the time Paige had known her, Martina had introduced several more or less serious partners.   The current one was young model Andy who wasn't the brightest crayon in the box but had a heart of gold. Even though they had known for only a short while, Martina and Andy's relationship seemed more stable than the others. It had potential for a long-term relationship while it didn't feel shared mortgage level serious.
Tumblr media
Paige wondered where her and Heath's relationship was heading. She wanted something serious eventually, get married, maybe a kid or two… She just wasn't a hundred percent sure if Heath was the one. He was a good partner and all but he was… experienced. He had almost completed his family life cycle and Paige hadn't even started. His daughter was almost an adult already, would he want to start over with a baby anymore? And even if he wanted, wouldn't it be weird?   They hadn't deeply discussed their future plans yet but Paige knew it was something they should discuss. She just felt very uneasy about it.
Tumblr media
Notes: I'm thinking of sharing that magazine pose accessory I made for this chapter. But it only has that one swatch! Anyone interested in making some more?
This time I post the chapter in larger chunks. Easier for me but is it better or worse for you? Or indifferent? Should I hide part of the post under the cut? Let me know what you think :)

What do you think about hellxander,,
Oh BOY. Maaan, we are not ready.
Spoilers for the end of Rain Code of course.
Oh yeah, also, I'm sick so my brain is not working very properly right now, so I might make a lot of mistakes. Sorry for that.
I've started liking (and even just basically hearing about) Hellxander for a bit more than a week now, and, oh boy, do I love them.
At first I didn't really think much of the ship (mostly because I'm terrified of zombie and the first time I saw Fake Zombie Zilch, I was mostly trying to survive rather than appreciating his love for Yomi), but since I replayed the game and saw it on tumblr... Oh boy.
I don't even know where to start from... Well, I started writing a fanfic about them almost right after discovering the ship, so I think that shows how much I love them?
Like, it's my favourite ship from Rain Code. And from veeeeery far. At first I liked Makoto x Yomi (and still do), because they have a funny and interesting dynamic and potential for fluff (because if you can't allow yourself to be weak even in front of your ennemy who already hates you and finds you weak, when could you?), and, I can't stop thinking that Makoto does not hate Yomi and could genuinely develop some kind of relationship with him.
Anyway, back to Hellxander... The ship surpasses Yomi x Makoto because... HAVE YOU SEEN AIDE (that's how most people call him, right? That word is so funny to me) ACTING TOWARDS YOMI??? I mean, ok, sure, "Yomi" was actually Yuma. BUT STILL. Aide believe it was Yomi, and seemed so happy to talk to him. I swear everyone could have seen a tail wagging during this "scene". Like, COME ON. There's no way Aide wasn’t in love with Yomi. Sure, he might have hidden it when he was alive (although I headcanon him fanboying like crazy and twirling his hair in his mind everytime he was talking with Yomi), but he was definitely in love.
That and, he seems so obediant to Yomi that there's no way Yomi would have hated him or punished him for anything other than fun! And, I'm sure if he had ever punished Aide, Yomi would have been very gentle with him, because he needed his right hand man to not be too damaged to work properly.
And, do you really think Yomi would remain impassive to someone who obeys him, adores him and the likes? There's no way. Yomi would have at the very least considered him a friend, or someone he could agree not to hurt too much.
MOREOVER, can you imagine Yomi being weak with someone else than his right hand man who is here exactly because Yomi isn’t strong enough to take care of everything by himself?? If someone can escape alive after seeing Yomi weak, it's 🦆in Aide.
AND THE ANGST!! DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE ANGST?! I LIVE FOR THAT CRAP! There's never enough angst/no comfort for me. I eat it, I write it, I dream it and I cry it (does that even make sense??), give me all of your angst, I'll devour that crap. Anyway. Maan, the angst potential for these two is through the roof! Imagine the pain Yomi felt after hearing about the death of Aide. Man must have devastated and tried to keep his composure. I honestly think (headcanon time ?) that Yomi was so dead set on catching Yuma/punishing his subordinate failures because of Aide's death.
Also, not only did he had to accept his death, he also had to accept that actually "All previously dead inhabitant of Kanai Ward are not exactly dead per se, but rather, mindless zombies that might not recognises you, even if you were the best of friends or lovers". That's worse than death!
VCsiCaihs
I love them so much. So so much. There's not enough words, no matter which language I'd use, to describe how much I love them.
As for headcanons regarding those two... I did mention some, previously, so, do I still have any in reserve?
Oh yeah
Uh
Huh. Might be kinda ("kinda"??) nsfw so uh, yeah.
I think Aide loves Yomi so much that just thinking about him turns him on, and is sometimes enough to make him ejaculate
Aide hates Seth because the man is too close to Yomi AND is (according to him) useless or too pathetic. That being said, he doesn't care about the other Peace Keepers because they are useful and not that close to Yomi. As for Martina... He is jealous of her, but she does a good work and Yomi seems to have fun with her, so he can't say anything.
Aide always seem to know when Yomi will have a nightmare and stalks his house/appartment whenever he sense it, just in case he could do something to help him. (Does Yomi know about it? I have no clue)
As for kinks... Man, I tried looking through a LOT of kink lists, and yet, the one I have in mind seem to be too specific and have no name... So I guess I will not say it. I think Aide would be fine with anything, as long as Yomi is happy anyway.
As for Yomi... Hm... I do have a lot of headcanons, but not directly/really related to Aide, so I'll keep them for later I guess?
I mean, I do have some other ideas related to Yomi and Aide, but those are most of fanfic ideas than really headcanons, so hm.
I think I said everything I had in mind regarding them? If not I guess I'll update it or reblog it, we'll see (What's best?).
OH AND PLEASE
If you have any fics or fanarts of Hellxander to share, please, send them to me. I will eat them all. Even if I already know about it. Nomnomnom.
Oh wait, I almost forgot. Thanks a lot for the ask!!

How do you think the templar skills such as Clease, Silence or Righteous Strike would affect Anders? I mean, the type of templar skills that prevent a mage from conecting with the Fade, would that also affect Anders considering that Justice lives in him too? Where does Justice draw his power from when he takes over? From the Fade for being a spirit himself or does he use Anders' natural connection with the Fade as a mage? I'm just trying to imagine how a fight between DA2 Anders and a powerful templar would go down. Because if I imagine it as realistic as possible, a templar skill like Silence should on its own negate most of Anders' powers, even with Justice's aid. Or am I wrong?
Thank you for your insights! I always read your DA thoughts with eager interest (that's why I'm asking your opinion on this now😉)
hi okay so my initial thought WAS that anders/justice could maybe get away with evading templar abilities which seems justified by justice’s notable successful destructive outbursts aimed in their direction. but that was based on my understanding that templars block mages’ connection to the fade to disrupt spells, and justice, described (paraphrasing) as like a piece of the fade brought into this world, might potentially be an alternate source of power. however! i was wrong!
Tumblr media
i was just wrong on a basic level about how templar abilities work. mages use the power of the fade to make reality mutable, changeable according to their will. while templars can also drain energy drawn from the fade, what they actually do on a basic level when they stop spells is enforce reality. insist upon a stubbornly real world where the spell cannot be cast. (this is WAY closer to magic of their own than i was imagining but i’ll get distracted if i talk about that.) what anders/justice uses is still magic, even if amped up by the power of a spirit. i don’t see any reason why templars couldn’t deny it as they do any other magic. i suppose i should have guessed this because lots of templar abilities work on demons, right? which in functional terms is the same thing
nevertheless, templars are, broadly speaking, considerably less powerful than mages. ideally you want an entire pack of templars to deal with one mage, whereas a templar outnumbered even by two or three to one is completely fucked. that’s for regular well-trained mages. anders/justice when in Full Justice Mode™️ is notably capable of defeating an entire pack of prepared templars singlehanded. (you have to allow for mages “realistically” in-world being significantly more overpowered than they are in the games.) however in the short story where he does this, the templars involved do not specifically seem to use more abilities than being somewhat warded from an initial magical attack by having taken lyrium, so there’s no evidence there to my knowledge of what more specific templar abilities can do against anders/justice (the templar was terrified of what anders looked like despite having “faced broodmothers and abominations without fear”, so i have to imagine he just panicked too hard to do anything but jump straight to stabbing anders, which he does)
anders/justice then proceeds to, um, rip the guy’s whole head off. yeah. i don’t think any reinforcement of reality is going to do too much about that
so in response to your specific questions: i would expect cleanse, silence and righteous strike to work successfully, if maybe with some allowances for justice’s strength to let him shake it off quicker. there’s no reason a templar couldn’t successfully disrupt his spells with all of those abilities. however neither does that mean anders/justice is defenceless from a templar. if justice well and truly comes out, yes i think templar abilities will still work, it’s just not going to save them from what they’re facing. of course anders actively avoids and fears going that far bc of the obvious drawbacks, and he can’t do it at will, so it’s only happening if justice fully panics. but templar-related high anders distress and anger levels is exactly what makes justice panic so, you know, i can’t see him not showing up to a serious high stakes fight between anders and a templar
i would also suggest that since the vengeance tree has several spells to do with replenishing mana and lessening cooldowns, it seems likely that would translate to anders recovering much quicker from templars’ abilities to drain mana than another mage might, probably due as i said to justice’s more natural connection to the fade

The Case for Jimmywing
You can skip to “Let’s start at the beginning” for the actual content of what I’m analyzing.
So about a year and a half ago, I happened upon a trade paperback of “Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen: who killed Jimmy Olsen” at a comic book store we regularly drive an hour just to go to. I found the coat tail riding title self deprecating and hilarious and it instantly became a favorite of mine. And it fucking ruined my life.
For a split second I mistook Jimmy Olsen for being part of Nightwing’s “Ginger Harem” as they call it. I thought “he had to be, right? Like statistically?” He’s part of the young adult demographic, or ‘gen 2’ as I call them, he and Dick are both huge parts of Clark’s life to the extent where they gotta at least be friends, and no one would be shocked if he was one of the redhead’s Dick’s “collected” as they say. So why the hell was there nothing on the internet falling for this obvious set up?
(For context the human geography of fandom behavior is of high interest to me)
This was quite a bit of an anomaly, so I set out for some research. I brushed over results from the silver age initially and saw there was just one panel coming up with both of them in present art style (a twenty years in the future thing). It was more of a Jimmy Olsen cameo than anything where all I learned is they’re not familiar these days. I still liked the idea though and if I left my digging there I probably would’ve let it go a while ago. But then I looked INTO the silver age stuff and OH BOY IS THERE A LOT TO UNPACK HERE.
Long story short, they were written as close friends for years and I feel like DC is trying to gaslight me personally into pretending it didn’t happen. There’s a lot of potential to pick up where they left off with everything that’s happened in their stories since but there’s little to no sign of taking advantage of that anytime soon.
Let’s start at the beginning…
In 1940 both Batman and Superman separately acquired child sidekicks. A pair of eyes in the story the same age of the target audience’s to see themselves in and relate to. Robin would make his debut in the comics as Batman’s sidekick, would be Bruce Wayne’s legal ward, and also dawn combat training, gadgets, and a costumed vigilante identity. Jimmy Olsen would be a cub reporter at the daily planet where Clark Kent worked (a position specified beyond it’s dictionary definition as a teen internship position in “Superman Smashes the Klan”, which is set in the radio show cannon) and help at Superman’s side as himself.
Tumblr media
Later, particularly with the classic comic run “World’s Finest”, in a world much less saturated with superheroes, let alone sidekicks, than we have today, the sidekicks of the stars of these comics easily became close friends. Most notable adventure by today’s standard would be World’s finest # 195, probably due to it’s shock and meme value cover of Batman and Superman making their sidekicks dig their own graves.
Tumblr media
A personal favorite of mine would be World’s Finest #141 where the sidekicks run away to an island and fake their deaths, making it the first of at least twice they do that together (another being near the end of #195). Here they establish a secret hideout in the mountains in an abandoned observatory to keep souvenirs from their respective mentor’s adventures, and some of their own. (Notably two dummies of themselves Batman and Superman had just used to get back at them for pulling this stunt).
Tumblr media
In Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen, Jimmy has also filled in for Robin twice. First time was to get Jimmy into the Mystery analysts (#111), second was to settle a bet after Robin beat him in a “Young Man of the Year” pageant (#130). In #111 this is where Robin trained Jimmy in combat, and some gadget use so he’s got that under his belt now enough to do it all again at least.
Tumblr media
Also quick fun fact before I move on, Jimmy knew Robin and Batman’s secret identities LONG before he knew Superman’s. In World’s Finest #144, due to the fact that Jimmy was radiating kryptonite, he and Robin switched mentors and Batman pretty much immediately told him that he was Bruce Wayne, and Dick Grayson was Robin (told with Robin’s approval). A bit of an anomaly, but it carried forth in continuity.
Tumblr media
Anyway, if you try to look up any shared adventure’s in recent comics, you’ll unceremoniously get nothing. I mentioned earlier Jimmy’s cameo in “Nightwing the New Order”, and there’s also like two crossed paths in the current World’s Finest run (a flashback continuity) and it just seemed like their dynamic then was just that Robin was relatively annoyed with Jimmy for being the one to debunk Mr. Mxyzptlk and Batmite’s disguises. (Rude?!)
Tumblr media
I can’t find ANYTHING that explains this drift. My estimate would be that their dynamic died out some time between Dick joining the Titans and becoming Nightwing. But still remains a glaring connection.
Nightwing and Flamebird
So the first time that the Nightwing mantle debuted it was Superman as Nightwing with Jimmy as Flamebird. They went as these heroes into the bottle city of Kandor on multiple occasions. At the time they modeled these personas off of two kinds of birds found in Kandor, taking inspiration from Batman and Robin. The people of Kandor were convinced that Superman was actively refusing to grow the city again, and deemed him an enemy, which justified the disguises.
Tumblr media
You still see this referenced every now and then, usually in museums and stuff, in fact, remember that observatory hideout? Statues and/or costumes of Superman’s and Jimmy’s Nightwing and Flamebird are on prominent display. In fact, Robin and Jimmy landed on naming the place itself “The Eyrie”, because as Robin said:
“In a way, we’re both birds. You’ve been Flamebird, and I’m Robin. So let’s call it the Eyrie!”

They revisit it now and then, but it seems to have been forgotten at this point.
Now since then there have been multiple pairs of Nightwings and Flamebirds. Obviously we know Dick Grayson is THE Nightwing and has been for a long time. The most consistent Flamebird however would be Bette Kane, and here’s where this gets interesting.
So there’s a full Krytonian legend surrounding Nightwing and Flamebird, from what I can tell, different versions, from heroes to gods etc. The most complete version I can only find on the wiki, so if you know where it’s from please let me know!
Here’s the link: https://superman.fandom.com/wiki/Nightwing_and_Flamebird
Here’s the quote:
“The true Flamebird is a massive, flaming dragon-like creature from deep in Krypton's past. The bird's partner is Nightwing, who is also its mate and opposite.
Among the early Kryptonian Gods, Flamebird was charged by almighty Rao with constantly refreshing the world by burning down the new creations of her brother, Vohc-The-Builder. She did so, but there was no hostility between the two; Vohc was grateful that Flamebird constantly pushed him to reimagine his works.
However, to help his friend, Nightwing, Vohc made it possible for him to meet flamebird. As such those two fell in love. Vohc's next creation was a monument representing all of his love for Flamebird. While Flamebird truly admired and appreciated the work, she fulfilled her duty to Rao by burning it down. This time Vohc actually begged for this work to be saved, but Flamebird ignored him. This destroyed much of Vohc and changed him into Vohc-The-Breaker. (Comic Series: Action Comics)
In each cycle, the Nightwing and the Flamebird are reborn, and must find each other. Also in each cycle, they are betrayed by a friend and killed.”
It cites action comics but I can’t narrow it down. My guess is that it came up when Thara Ak-Var and Chris Kent held the mantles.
So Bette Kane initially took up the Flamebird mantle to get Dick’s attention (while he was still Robin). He rejected her and it didn’t really work out which in the grand scheme of all things considered, makes sense thematically in a “pushing fate” kind of way. She was Flamebird for a while after that, even seen fighting beside Dick Grayson’s Nightwing every now and then, but hasn’t been Flamebird since before rebirth so currently no one seems to hold the mantle at present (technically).

So where does that leave Flamebird now?
Well this year, two interesting things have come up. One, in the new cartoon “My Adventures with Superman”, Jimmy is Flamebird again in the form of a username for his conspiracy blog. As of now, he just seemed to come up with it cause it sounds cool, so unless they pull out a “what a coincidence” or back story of how he found the name, that’s probably the extent of Flamebird’s roll there.

The second is in Action Comics #1058 where Kara reveals that Nightwing and Flamebird is actually the fable of the House of El. Each Krytonian house had a fable and this one is spesific to Superman and his family.
Now from here on out this is all just my thinking. “Theory” would even be a strong word implying that I legitimately think this is what is going on. Call this “if I were in charge of this story this is how this would go”
So what now?
Dick as a fated Nightwing makes so much sense for him. Pretty much all of his best qualities as a person can be seen in Superman and in it’s been said time and time again that he got the title from him. There’s that connection. That has my thinking that Nightwing and Flamebird would have a strong connection to the House of El, i.e., Superman. We know Nightwing is Dick, we know Dick looks up to Superman like, frankly most of the time, a better dad than Bruce. Low bar, but still.
And with this connection in mind, and all the history stated earlier with not just Jimmy’s long history with not just Dick, but Superman as well, he seems like the obvious choice to me. They state over and over again how Jimmy proves his loyalty, he’ll charge into danger like it’s nothing (a trait I personally think he picked up from Lois) and he is always such a fun narrator when handed the mic. He’s earned it.
As far as the ship goes, aside from it potentially being a huge payoff for a sixty year old saga of legends of love, heroism, and fate, the dynamics of their modern personalities would be unparalleled.
Over all its fricken WEIRD that their dynamic was just randomly forgotten like that, especially with everything built around them that you’d think would have them at least cross paths. I don’t hold not having a romantic relationship between them against DC, nor do I ever expect them to ever take that route any times soon, but come on man why aren’t they at least friends anymore?
