A young man with a elegant uniform was standing still right in front of the school gate, arms crossed and a stern expression in his beautiful face. By the crest on his chest and the color, it was clear he was from the extremely expensive prestigious private school two streets away from the public one he was currently glaring at - Cloud Recesses Academy. And by his look (the way his shoes shined, his bag looked expensive, and his haircut was very much like a young master) he could see he was from a prestigious family, too.

Yiling High School was an average public institution with it's lack of facilities and funds. It has a quite gloomy vibe around, with dark unwashed outside walls, dirty overgrown lawn and the vandalization that could be seen anywhere you walked by.

"Maybe he came to ambush our Louzu." a student murmured to their friends.

"Eh~? But why would Louzu be close to these rich kids?" one of them asked back "He's always talking shit about them."

"Right? Maybe this one didn't like it." another one laughed "They're quite sensitive, right?"

"Yeah!" they all laughed together, staring at the private school boy as they walked past.

They boy didn't even move to acknowledge the students staring at him not at all discreet, he was just standing there waiting for something or someone.

The ones ready for a good gossip, or who liked to watch their Laozu, the leader of the delinquent group of these school, the fear of the others, fight stayed close by waiting to see what was going to happen.

Some girls got interested in his beautiful face and wanted to get close, but decided to also wait.

They didn't need to wait for too long, because not long after, a boy with the same uniform as them came running out of the building, his long hair flying behind him quite prettily. It was the Yiling Laozu himself, going straight to the private school boy.

"Lan Zhan!" he yelled, a bright smile in his face.

The stern expression have way to a soft look, a barely there smile, and his arms uncrossed to open in wait. The Yiling Laozu jumped and hugged his boy with his long arms and legs, looking very happy.

"Wei Ying." the one holding him with too much easy said.

"Did you came to pick me up?"

"Mn." he nodded, sparing a small look around him using the corner of his eyes "Came to pick my boyfriend so we can walk home together."

Every student around them froze in shock hearing those words. Since when their Laozu had a boyfriend?!

With the happiest expression they ever saw on his pretty face, Yiling Laozu kissed the other boy on the mouth quite shamelessly, putting the last nail on the gossip billboard.

"Then, let's go!" Yiling Laozu said, getting down and walking away with his boyfriend holding hands in a very, extremely romantic way, the sunset making everything look even more surreal.

"Eat the rich, huh?" someone said in the silence they left behind.

It was complete and utter chaos the other morning when Wei Ying arrived in school, a hickey on the back of his neck.

(apparently, someone tried to confess to Wei Ying that week, and couldn't take no as answer and kept insisting and stalking him, so the boyfriend, Lan Zhan, decided to take matters into his own (big) hands)

i was thinking,, why do we always kill off wwx’s parents in modern aus. we all just immediately place him with the jiangs 😭 no questions asked. but just think of an au with lil wei kids running around, adoring their big brother wei wuxian. wwx growing up with the example of two loving parents in a healthy relationship who always shower him with love and leave no room for insecurities to fester. think of how much quicker wwx would be to act on his feelings for lwj.

Mdzs modern AU where teen Lan Wangji keeps voice recordings of himself confessing his love to Wei Wuxian, but never sends them. Wwx runs away from home & disappears for 13 years and Lwj searches for him while recording all his feelings. Maybe he keeps all of these recordings in an old MP3 player or something idk, and just, abandons it in his old house when his family moves into a new big one. And maybe one day coincidentally Wwx moves into the same house, finds the player and finds out that his first love, has been loving him back all these years, and maybe in some of the recordings, Lwj talks about how he has been writing a song for him, and that he has already decided the name of it, and in the last one, he hums the song, but doesn't say the name of it. And Wwx frantically searches for Lwj everywhere and when he finally finds him, after 13 years, the first thing he says to Lwj when he sees him,

"You didn't tell me the name of the song"

And Lwj just, freezes, not yet comprehending anything that's happening, except the fact that the love of his life is standing right in front of him and asking him a question about something he could never know unless a miracle happened, but somehow uttering the word,

"Wangxian."

The rest is history.

He sunk into a deep meditative state so he could hardly tell the difference between him and the moonlight. Lan Wangji was rudely pulled out of meditation by the sound of yelling from above him. He had no time to react before three boys, the land boys from earlier, fell from somewhere above and splashed into the pool. One of them, the pretty one, Wei Wuxian, fell basically into his lap, driving Lan Wangji under the water. Their eyes met for one startled moment before Lan Wangji fled the pool. He had made a huge mistake. Wei Wuxian, Jiang Cheng, and Nie Huaisang have all been turned into Mermen. It is up to Lan Wangji to exchange his tail for legs, walk on land, and somehow strip them of their newfound powers. Loosely based on the H2O:Just Add Water/Mako Mermaids franchise.

My comments: Let me just start by saying I don't know anything about the H2O/Mako angle and that didn't trip me up one whit. I love mer-ji, he's so stately and silvery and solemn. Meanwhile, wwx and his buddies are definitely still The Idiot Trio, bless 'em. But once lwj follows them out of the ocean, there's getting to know each other, and finding a deeper connection - that neither of them wants to give up if lwj achieves his goal of taking away their accidental tails. Fanart at the end is pretty gripping, too.

TOKU AU HECK YEAH!

I admit I was sitting on this one for a while because I was trying very hard not to turn this into a Ryuki AU.

I failed.

So now it's Ryuki based with Toshiki Inoue brand identity shenanigans because I loved them in Agito, Faiz and Donbrothers :D

Ryuki is the Battle Royale one where the Riders are duking it out in order to have their wish granted. I'm going to combine this a bit with Fate/Zero where the end goal is an ultimate power, but this ultimate power is actually EVIL!

(It's the Yin Iron) (pretty sure it was also EVIL in Ryuki but I have not watched all of Ryuki)

LWJ was not supposed to be a Henshin Hero but while investigating a haunting one day because he does that, he spotted his brother and shenanigans ensued resulting in the LXC's transformation belt getting split in two and LWJ is a Hero now! ....but he and LXC are only at half the power they should be individually.

Which for ✨Reasons✨ is still pretty much on par with all of the other riders.

WWX is the favorite to win this Battle Royale. In his hero form, he is the villain to defeat and every time he and LWJ run into each other, it's a death match. In civilian form, he and LWJ actually get along great, neither one knowing the other's identity but both having strong ideals of justice. Their identities get revealed to each other about 2/3rds through and there is much angst.

(WWX also forms the classic 2 guys & a girl Rider trio with WN & WQ)

LWJ owns a motorbike and there will be romantic sunset motorbike rides. And friendship sunset motorbike rides. And angsty sunset motorbike rides.

(The bike's name is Bichen)

NHS is not a powerful hero like his brother was, but he has his guile and is determined to get the ultimate power so he could resurrect his brother. (Sorry Da-ge is dead in this verse. For ✨Reasons✨). He's friends with WWX in their civilian lives. Naturally they don't know each others identities, but he and LWJ do learn each other's identities pretty early on, and help each other out. NHS is very definitely not plotting something!

JGY is also a part of this. He and LXC know each other's identities so he figures out LWJ's identity pretty quickly. He decides not to let on that he knows, but much like LXC & LWJ he is more invested in using his powers for good than fighting other heroes. Honest!

This is as far as I got haha (JC is here somewhere too.... possibly also partaking in the identity hijinks with WWX & LWJ). Also Bonus because you mentioned this in our chat and I loved it:

WWX makes his debut in the story when JZX throws his sister's love letter off a bridge and he jumps down to get it while yelling at JZX. (LWJ witnesses this and thinks WWX is an idiot. But a respectable one!)

hmm would it be fun if the Yin Iron shards are what actually allow everyone to become Toku Heroes...

Because Wei Wuxian is gazing at him with an expression that is both shocked yet hopeful and Lan Wangji will not mess this up.

MDZS modern AU, highschool setting, in which, tired of seeing his little brother friend-less, LXC decides to find him a friend himself

So he looks around the school yard one day and picks literally the loudest, most social dude around (WWX, obviously), pulls him aside and is like "i'll pay you 100$ weekly to be friends with my brother who's juat transferred here and is not very social."

WWX is iffy about it bc it's absolutely unfair to do that to someone - but he's, what, 15, Madam Yu is already harping on him about paying rent and making friends comes second nature to him - so he says yes.

He gets a name and a picture and he's off on his mission.

What luck that this new LWJ kid signed up for a music class elective where WWX has also just secured a spot. Sweet, they already have something in common!

Turns out, WWX does actually enjoy being LWJ's friend a lot, teasing him and getting reactions out of him and everything. He doesn't need the money LXC gives him at all, so he gives back as much of it, as quickly as he can after getting a job - after all "I don't need money to be friends with someone I would have wanted to befriend anyway!"

Time passes, it's wangxian and they fall in love, even plan to move in together after high school and marry after college.

Except, one day LWJ hears some people talking about how "Lan Xichen must've raised Wei Wuxian's pay by a lot now! Pretending to be Lan Wangji's boyfriend must be a lot harder than just acting as his friend!"

LWJ doesn't believe it and doesn't care about gossip.

But he thinks of how suddenly he and WWX became friends, of how he and LXC sometimes talked alone like they had a secret, how it always felt a little too good to be true.

Who should he go to first? His brother, who bought out someone for LWJ to spend time with because he didn't think LWJ able to find someone himself?

Or his boyfriend, who's been lying to him the whole time in exchange for cash?
