sighs...every day i wake up mad at song qiutong and then i remind myself she is just doing what she can to survive as a victim of a prolonged genocide, that her ability to adapt and switch sides is a byproduct of her self-preservation, that she didn't totally have much of a choice in marrying taxian-jun...because, like, imagine having the protection of a literal emperor. you'd never be eaten or beaten or enslaved again. but taxian-jun is irrational and mercurial and, even though it is the product of the flower, abusive. he seems to hate his old shizun, so wouldn't it make sense to curry his favor by also inflicting pain on the same man? but taxian-jun changes faces as quickly as the minutes tick by every day, so song qiutong is left trying to find the fragile balance between upsetting and pleasing the most powerful man in the cultivation world. in the end...even in 2.0...she is a tragedy. the very survival instincts that kept her alive for so long are the reason she is ultimately executed.
yes she is two-faced and conniving and she can and will frame, torture, manipulate anyone and anything as long as it means saving her own hide, and i hate her.
but that's also all she's ever known, in a world that wants to consume her, systematically - mind, flesh, and all - and so, in the end, i just. i just feel bad for her.

I'm still thinking about how Issei was starting to hate his smile right when Nekoyashiki complimented him and how it was meant as a way to protect himself from the pain of his family life and how Nekoyashiki never realized it because he was too captivated by how beautiful he found the smile to be to see the pain lurking behind it and how Issei embraced his smile because Nekoyashiki loved it and how that only made Nekoyashiki try to push him away more because he couldn't handle the joy.

[Traditional Chinese Festival] Customs of 臘八節(Laba Festival) in China.Eng Sub
Today(January 18, 2024) is the traditional Chinese festival,臘八節 Laba Festival.Let’s learn about some interesting traditions and customs about this festival.
【About 臘八節(Laba Festival)】
Laba Festival (Chinese:臘八節) is a traditional Chinese holiday celebrated on the eighth day of the month of La (or Layue 臘月), the twelfth month of the Chinese calendar. It is the beginning of the Chinese New Year period. It is customary on this day to eat Laba congee.
Laba Festival was not on a fixed day until the Southern and Northern dynasties, when it was influenced by Buddhism and was fixed on the eighth day of twelfth month, which was also the enlightenment day of the Buddha. Therefore, many customs of the Laba Festival are related to Buddhism.
The Laba Festival's name represents its date on the Chinese calendar. La is the name of the twelfth and final month, and ba means "eight/八". In ancient China, the "eight/八" referred to making sacrifices to eight gods at the end of the year.
In its original form, the festival was celebrated by making sacrifices to gods and ancestors to wish for good fortune, health, safety, and a good harvest in the new year. The word la originally referred to these sacrifices.
After Buddhism spread to China during the first century CE, the festival was used as commemoration of Gautama Buddha's enlightenment. It was given a fixed date (the eighth day of the twelfth month) during the Northern and Southern dynasties.
【Customs of 臘八節/Laba Festival?】
Laba congee/臘八粥
Tumblr media
Traditionally, the consumption of Laba congee is an important element of the festival. There are multiple legendary accounts of the dish's origins. One story says that it originated in the Song dynasty with Buddhist monasteries giving congee to people in honor of the story that Sakyamuni (Gautama Buddha) reached enlightenment on the eighth day of the twelfth month after eating congee.
Laba congee or Laba porridge (臘八粥; Làbāzhōu) is very popular in many places in China. Different kinds of rice, beans, nuts and dried fruits are the main ingredients. People believe that it's good for health in the winter.
It is also known as "eight-treasure congee" (八宝粥; Bā bǎo zhōu)and is usually made with eight or more ingredients, representing good luck. Eight is a lucky number in China, and the ba in Laba also means eight.
There are many variations of Laba congee in different regions of China. Ingredients can include mixed grains, such as rice, millet, and barley; beans and nuts such as mung beans, azuki beans, lotus seeds, peanuts, walnuts, and chestnuts; dried fruit such as red dates, longan, raisins, and goji berries; and other ingredients such as vegetables and meat.
2.Laba garlic/臘八蒜
Tumblr media
Another Laba food is Laba garlic, which is particularly popular in northern China.Garlic in Chinese (蒜; suàn) has the same pronunciation as calculate (算; suàn), and it is said that on the Laba Festival businesses should balance their books and calculate their revenues and expenditures for the year.Laba garlic is made by soaking garlic in vinegar. Laba garlic is soaked in vinegar from the Laba Festival until Chinese New Year. The garlic and vinegar are then used alongside Chinese dumplings (jiaozi) around Chinese New Year.

never got into vaporwave probably, what projects should i listen to for an introduction??
I always love this question. Finding the best primers to the whole of the vaporwave landscape and introducing new people to them is one of the many things with this genre that I just find so fun. I'm going to try to be as succinct as I can, but I am going to shoutout a lot, specifically twelve, so go ahead and take your time with these.
Tumblr media
Macintosh Plus – Floral Shoppe (2011)
The biggest vaporwave album of all time. I will tell you now that this album is by no means perfect, it has quite a mixed reputation among fans & outsiders of the genre, but this is the album to single-handedly define the genre's core ethos in such a highly-concentrated way. If nothing else, this should give you a taste of what inspires and influences the genre most.
Chuck Person's Eccojams Vol. 1 (2010)
By all accounts, this is the very first vaporwave album and to this day, nothing sounds quite like it. A classic array of disorienting, hazy & psychedelic loops of old popular songs that still sound fresh and wholly enveloping.
猫 シ Corp. – HIRAETH (2014)
This one here is to help people gain a better understanding of what your typical standard vaporwave album often sounds like. It's quite varied in a number of subtly different styles & approaches to traditional vaporwave with some ambiance sprinkled in as well.
SAINT PEPSI – Hit Vibes (2013)
Now we're getting into the individual subgenres of vaporwave and while there's a few traditional vaporwave tunes sprinkled in here for variety, this album birthed & defined the genre of future funk with some of the best dance bangers you'll find in the scene. Lots of classy tunes on here, it's an absolute jam.
Blank Banshee – Blank Banshee 0 (2012)
Up to this point, every album I've shared has been intensely sample-based. This album still carries some samples, but it has original beats & synths to establish another subgenre known as vaportrap. It's a great beat tape with some classic tunes and I also recommend its sequel too, which is my favourite vapor album of all time.
ESPRIT 空想 – virtua.zip (2014)
Carrying on from the last album, this one almost doesn't use samples at all and when it does, it's usually an extra sound or instrument at most. I'm putting this here to establish that even basic vaporwave can be crafted from original compositions and the results are short but great.
t e l e p a t h テレパシー能力者 – 現実を超えて (2014)
What makes vaporwave the way it is and not like any other genre adjacent to it is its intensely heavy focuses on atmosphere more than anything else. So naturally, you're going to see a lot of bridges to ambient music. This first example is the subgenre of slushwave, which crafts the same excellent vaporwave tunes, but additionally filters them through such a wash of effects that transform them into psychedelic & blissful dreamscapes.
식료품groceries – 슈퍼마켓Yes! We're Open (2014)
The next subgenre in this vein is mallsoft, which answers the question of vaporwave being set in the tall & wide spaces of shopping centres by placing relaxing tunes in pools of reverb and letting them sprawl from the loudspeakers of the area's corners. This album is the first big one to establish that with a unique setting and gorgeous sample choices.
2814 – 新しい日の誕生 (2015)
The last of these ambient subgenres is dreampunk, which is a lot like vaportrap in that it heavily relies on its own compositions with very few samples while still retaining the genre's focus on nostalgia, this time set in the melancholic & rainy nights of the urban city through what is at least the second biggest album in the entire genre.
death's dynamic shroud – I'll Try Living Like This (2015)
I'm gonna end this list with a few of the genre's weirdest corners. Vaporwave is constantly wide open to new & unique ways of experimentation and this album stands as the best example of that. Wholly unique aesthetic choices, completely innovative sampling techniques and an overall opus of incredibly strange, surreal & psydchedelic soundscapes.
Infinity Frequencies – Computer Death (2013)
After that, I'll close this list with two examples of an abstract subgenre known by two names. They're synonymous to the greater community & world of music, but I see them as two different approaches. They're both defined by the creation of intensely haunting, isolated & loops of mysterious soundbites extracted from the likes of television & radio. Signalwave is what I use to describe the more accessible & musical end of that sound and this start of a trilogy is the best example for it.
░▒▓新しいデラックスライフ▓▒░ – ▣世界から解放され▣ (2012)
On the other hand, I will leave you with what I consider to be the most divisive vaporwave record of all time. This album defines what is more commonly known as broken transmission and it is much more obtuse, glitchy, dark & surreal to listen to depending on the album. You're going to listen to this and either love it, hate it or sit inbetween. People have taken it as a joke while others view it as a work of art. Approach this one at your own discretion.
That's it! Those are the first 12 vaporwave albums that I will almost always recommend every single one of you to check out first. The greater landscape of vaporwave doesn't start & end with these albums, but instead, they give you the best surface level primer to help dip your toes in to such an amazing genre of music.

12 Books for 2024 (Japanese Edition)
You may have seen my post about the twelve books I read in 2023 (here), and I thought it would be fun to follow it up with a little tbr for 2024! Ideally, I'd like to read more than twelve books in 2024, but twelve is enough for now since I've got some series on this list that I'd like to either make some serious progress in or finish up completely. This list is in no particular order!
地球星人 - 村田沙耶香: I read コンビニ人間 by Murata a few years back and loved it, and this one has been high up on my tbr for a long time now. With how many people say they're completely traumatized by it, it sounds like the perfect book for me. The only reason I haven't read this yet is because I've hyped it up so much for myself.
生命式 - 村田沙耶香: A short story collection by Murata? Sign me up ten times over. This one sounds weird and gruesome and right up my alley.
本を守ろうとする猫の話 - 夏川草介: Another cat book, who can blame me? This was also touted as being perfect for book lovers, and I haven't heard a bad review yet.
吾輩は猫である - 夏目漱石: Keeping with the cat theme, this one I actually have planned in tandem with a challenge I have to read twelve big ass classics throughout the year. Between the sheer size of this and the fact that the text is so densely packed in, this book kinda scares me. I'm planning to read it in December of next year so that I have as much time as possible to prepare haha.
世界から猫が消えたなら - 川村元気: Last cat book, I promise, but I had to keep them all together (it's actually not about cats, though). I've had this one for a long time and just picked it up on a whim. I've heard a bit of mixed reviews, but the premise sounds interesting enough, and it seems to be pretty popular.
博士の愛した数式 - 小川洋子: This was one of the first books I bought in Japanese, so it's high time that I get it off my tbr. I've seen so many people love this, in and out of the language learning community. This author also has a bunch of other popular works, so I'd really like to jump into her books and experience the hype for myself.
告白 ‐ 湊かなえ: I've seen a bit of buzz about this book in the language learning community, but what really convinced me on it was seeing people outside of language learners also enjoying it. It sounds dark and mildly depressing, and I'm hoping that it'll have some interesting commentary as well.
独り舞 - 李琴峰: Somehow, I haven't read any queer literary fiction in Japanese yet, despite it being my favorite genre, so I'm so excited to jump into this one. For the life of me I can't remember where I heard about this, but I think it'll be one of my first reads in 2024.
デゥラララ!!- 成田良悟: I used to be obsessed with the anime adaptation in middle school but never revisited the series out of fear that it wouldn't stand the test of time. After seeing a fellow language learner gush about the series, I decided to give it a shot, managed to find it at a local used bookstore, and snatched up the first volume. Don't let me down, nostalgia!
憎らしい彼 - 凪良ゆう: This is the second book in the 美しい彼 series, and even though I'd like to read the third one next year as well, I'm just combining them. Seeing this series next to series like No. 6 and キノの旅 I'm really grateful to have a trilogy on my tbr haha.
No. 6 - あさのあつこ: Saying that I would like to finish this series next year is a bit of a stretch, seeing as I have eight of ten volumes left, but I'd like to put a serious dent in it to be sure.
キノの旅 - 時雨沢恵一: This series is more of a read as I please type series for me, since there's not really any overarching plot. I'm also not racing to make progress, since there are over twenty volumes (and still going). I'm savoring this series and I'm okay with that.

This short one-shot is inspired on Bless's recent headcanons (I recommend checking out the adorable ideas presented there~) and I want to give a special mention and thanks to her for granting me permission to use them. Thank you very much~ I hope this fulfills your request, Anon~ ♥
Tumblr media
Y/n had just returned from her assigned mission, she entered the mist pillar's estate, feeling a sense of relief as she made her way to the tatami floors where Muichiro Tokito, her fellow hashira and boyfriend, was waiting for her. The scent of warm food filled the air, indicating that a meal was prepared for them.
Y/n slid open the door to the tatami room, stepping inside and found Muichiro sitting cross-legged on the floor, his mint orbs focused on her.
"Welcome back." Muichiro greeted her with a gentle smile.
The mist pillar had a reputation among his fellow Demon Slayers for his distant and detached demeanor. His expression often held a hint of apathy, and his gaze seemed distant, as if his thoughts were elsewhere. Many considered him cold and unapproachable, unable to break through the walls he had built around himself.
However, when it came to Y/n, everything changed. Muichiro's usual facade melted away, revealing a side of him that only Y/n had the privilege to witness. In her presence, his eyes sparkled with warmth and tenderness, and his stoic features softened into a gentle smile.
Y/n returned the smile, a wave of relief washing over her. "Thank you, Mui. It was a tough mission, but I managed to complete it without any major issues."
Sitting down, Y/n couldn't help but appreciate the sight before her—the warm, inviting food, and Muichiro's serene expression.
As they began to eat, their conversation flowed easily. They talked about their respective missions, sharing stories and experiences, occasionally punctuated by soft laughter.
As the conversation continued, Muichiro's fingers hovered over the chopsticks, his thoughts drifting back to the topic with Mitsuri. The memory of her words about the term ‘kiss’ caused a flicker of uncertainty to pass through him.
Muichiro, despite being in an official relationship with Y/n, still felt inexperienced when it came to matters of romance and the actions expected of a couple. The simplest gestures that many couples took for granted were uncharted territory for him.
Feeling a mix of curiosity and apprehension, Muichiro's gaze shifted from Y/n to the untouched food on his plate. He considered the implications of what Mitsuri had said and wondered.
Muichiro's gaze lingered on Y/n, the silence between them stretched on, creating an air of uncertainty and tension. Y/n couldn't help but feel a mix of curiosity and confusion, her brows furrowed slightly, unsure of what Muichiro was thinking or trying to convey.
Taking a deep breath, Muichiro gathered his courage, he leaned in to kiss Y/n. However, in his nervousness and lack of experience, his aim went awry. Their heads collided with an unintentional force, resulting in a rather comical and unexpected outcome.
"Ouch!" they both exclaimed simultaneously, recoiling from the collision. Their hands instinctively went to their foreheads, massaging the sore spot where their heads had met.
Muichiro apologized, his face flushed with embarrassment. "I'm sorry…”
"Mui-! Are you okay?" Y/n asked worriedly, her voice laced with concern.
Muichiro took a moment to collect himself, trying to hide his embarrassment behind a calm facade. "I'm okay, Y/n," he assured her, his voice a little quieter than usual.
“What were you trying to do?”
Muichiro felt a wave of embarrassment wash over him as he struggled to find the right words. After pausing for a moment to gather his thoughts, he finally managed to speak up.
"I... I was trying to kiss you," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper.
Y/n's eyes widened in surprise, and a rush of warmth spread across her cheeks, turning them a deep shade of red as Muichiro's words sank in. His straightforwardness and genuine confession never failed to catch her off guard, even in moments of mishaps.
She couldn't help but find his earnestness endearing, feeling a mixture of surprise, affection, and amusement. The image of Muichiro's attempt to kiss her, only to result in an adorable failure, played in her mind, making her heart flutter with fondness.
Y/n's soft giggle escaped her lips, and she found herself unable to resist the endearing flutter in her heart. With a whisper, “we can try again.” her voice filled with a mixture of shyness and anticipation.
Muichiro's face lit up at Y/n's suggestion, his eyes reflecting a spark of excitement. His lips curved up into a gentle smile as he leaned in once again, determined to make their second attempt a success. The air crackled with anticipation as their lips met in a sweet, tender peck, this time achieving the desired outcome.
A gentle warmth spread through both Y/n and Muichiro as their lips connected, a moment filled with affection and the shared understanding of their growing bond.
A soft smile graced Y/n's lips as they pulled away from the kiss, her cheeks flushing with a deep shade of pink. Muichiro's eyes held a mixture of tenderness and pride, his heart brimming with happiness at the successful kiss.
Muichiro held onto the memory of that special moment, the way Y/n's lips felt against his, the warmth that enveloped them, and the fluttering of his heart.

best cdramas I’ve watched since the last one of these posts in 2022 (and some I’m still looking forward to seeing)
Heroes (watch on WeTV VIP | watch on bilibili) Adapted from the novel "Shuo Ying Xiong Shei Shi Ying Xiong" (说英雄谁是英雄) by Wen Rui An (温瑞安) starring Zeng ShunXi, Yang ChaoYue, Liu YuNing, Baron Chen and Meng ZiYi. I would’ve watched this thing for the cast only. Everyone is queer vibes. Not a flashy drama, but will emotionally shred you. The character development is totally worth it. Throughly entertaining, even when it punched you in the gut. 8/10
The Wind Blows From LongXi (watch on iQIYI VIP | watch on Viki) Adapted from novel "The Wind Rises in Longxi" (风起陇西) by Ma Bo Yong (马伯庸) starring Chen Kun and Bai Yu. I’ve been waiting for this drama for two years and it was worth every second of the wait. The cinematography in this thing is bonkers. The use of light and shadows, the muted colors, the indoor shots opening up into well-lit courtyards, the gritty sound mixing, the whole thing just blew my ass away. Chen Kun and Bai Yu are masters of their art. Fckn masterpiece. 11/10
Who Rules The World (watch on WeTV VIP | watch on Netflix) Adapted from the novel "Qie Shi Tian Xia" (且试天下) by Qing Ling Yue (倾泠月) starring Yang Yang, Zhao LuSi, and Xuan Lu. One of the rare romance dramas that really appealed to me. A well-balanced mix of court intrigue and martial world heroics. Unlimited blorbo potential. It’s hard to outshine Yang Yang (who gives major Mei Changsu vibes through like the first third of the drama) but Zhao LuSi and Xuan Lu together? Magnificent. Breathtaking. Brilliant. 8/10
The Legend of Hao Lan (watch on iQIYI VIP | watch on Viki | watch on tubi) starring Wu Jinyan and Nie Yuan. So this was like, The Story of Yanxi Palace cast, remixed. Was it great? Not really. Did I watch every episode? Yeah. I honestly think that Wu Jinyan could just make faces for 50+ sixty minute episodes, and I’d still watch every minute of it. Still, a fascinating take on the Warring States Period, and actually based on a woman who helped her son become the King of Qin, then ultimately the First Emperor of China. I think 99% of the budget went to costumes, and tbh, it was totally worth every penny. 7/10
(yeah, after all this, I rewatched Nirvana In Fire again)
The Silent Criminal (watch on Apple TV | watch on Bilibili | watch on iQIYI VIP | watch on Viki) starring Li Jiaming and Wen Sheng. So incredibly gay. Hilarious, yes, but predominantly gay. Murder, intrigue, suspense, pining; this little drama literally has everything. Did it impact my life and leave a long-lasting impression? Not really. But I was most throughly entertained. 7/10
My Heroic Husband (watch on Amazon Prime | watch on iQIYI VIP | watch on Viki) Adapted from the novel "Zhui Xu" (赘婿) by Fen Nu de Xiang Jiao (愤怒的香蕉). Starring Song Yi and Guo Qilin. Actually, the majority of Joy of Life cast is in this drama, including a cameo by Zhang Ruoyun in the very beginning. Cast aside tho, I fckn love this drama to pieces. Song Yi and Guo Qilin have amazing chemistry, and they’re so goddamn adorable together I can’t even stand it. The plot is far from complex but immensely satisfying. Excellent drama on a mediocre budget, one I plan to regularly rewatch. 8/10
Still waiting on:
Immortality - based on danmei novel The Husky and His White Cat Shizun by 肉包不吃肉 starring Chen Feiyu and Luo Yunxi (you can think I’m a clown but you’d be wrong bc I’m a wholeass circus)
Winner Is King - based on the danmei novel Sha Po Lang by Priest starring Tan Jianci and Chen Zheyuan
Step By Step Lotus - based on historical novel Return to Ming Dynasty as Prince by 月关 starring Zhang Binbin and Luo Yunxi
Eternal Faith - based on danmei novel Heaven Official’s Blessing by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu starring Zhai Xiaowen and Zhang Linghe
Joy Of Life Season 2 - based on wuxia novel of the same name by 猫腻 starring Zhang Ruoyun and Li Qin
A League of Nobleman - based on danmei novel The Society of Four Leaves by Da Feng Gua Guo starring Song Weilong and Jing Boran
Flying Phoenix - based on danmei novel of the same name by 風弄 starring Dai Jingyao and Shu Yaxin

Sad Robot: A Fanmix for The Murderbot Diaries
Happy New Year and happy new year fanwork exchange to @businesstiramisu!
I was captivated and intrigued by the idea of instrumental and non-English playlists/fanmixes; I listen to a lot of synthwave music that gives me high-tech intensity Murderbot vibes. Along with your other suggestion of non-English songs, it made me want to try extending my fanmix chops to put together some properly in-depth fanmixes using those musical influences!
So here are TWO fanmixes with extremely different vibes. Which one are you in the mood for: intense robot adventures across the Corporation Rim, or the affirming and uplifting story of a place that strives to be a home?
