Back at it again with another pokemon playthrough, this time going all the way back to gen 1 and playing yellow! I had been playing this on and off again for a few years now, but finally wrapped things up a couple months ago. Those old sprites are fascinating. Similarly, I thought it would be fun to shake up the usual team drawing doing this in the original Game Boy colors!
Team stats and general gameplay info under the cut:
"Sunnie", Pikachu, Thunderbolt - Quick Attack - Double Team - Body Slam
"Frumky", Primeape, Strength - Dig - Low Kick - Rock Slide
"Spesk", Parasect, Slash - Mega Drain - Leech Life - Spore
"Memoire", Mew, Earthquake - Metronome - Surf - Psychic
"Beast", Flareon, Fire Blast - Sand-Attack - Smog - Quick Attack
"Leece", Dewgong, Headbutt - Surf - Rest - Ice Beam
General Playthrough Notes:
Gameplay total settled at nearly 20 hours! One of the shorter ones, I'd say; though, then again, there isn't really much to do in this game aside from the gyms and Team Rocket stuff.
We went in to the E4 with the whole team at level 45! Something that didn't go well in my old LeafGreen playthrough, but was perfectly fine here. The E4 wasn't that bad at all, honestly.
Kanto is not nearly good enough to deserve all the times I've played through it. I am so tired of Kanto and I'm not even done with it yet (I'm midway through a SoulSilver randomized apocalocke which, of course, has Kanto in the postgame, and I'm doing another LeafGreen run for some reason).
Okay okay so look you can see the mew on my team, I thought it'd be fun to have a mew! I missed the spots you're ideally supposed to perform the glitch in. I had just finished Cerulean City and then realized that the trainers I needed for the glitch were in that city! And I had already beaten them! I ended up using a dugtrio in diglett cave instead. It wasn't very consistent, took me a few tries, but eventually I got it.
Fun fact! At one point I was going to do a yellow nuzlocke! I ended up getting bored and realized I just wanted to play through yellow regularly, so here we are. In that run I caught Frumky though, which is actually what won me over enough to want to use her again in my actual yellow playthrough. It was actually that save where I traded with myself to get an alakazam back in my gold playthrough.
Gen 1 is so funny with how broken it is. I got so much joy in describing to my roommate all the fucked up things that were happening in-game.
Hey. Come here. Listen closely: I don't think parasect is as bad as everyone says it is. Even with the multiple x4 weaknesses in gen 1. Spesk was the mvp in a lot of fights, they packed a punch. Lovely little critter.
...Wish I could speak high praises for gen 1 flareon though. I enjoyed using Beast! But they really just don't get access to a lot of good moves. Beast had their moments, but ultimately didn't get as much screen time as I had hoped.
Similarly, dewgong? Not as good as I hoped. It really isn't quite as beefy as I had in mind. Poor thing. Again, still had fun with them on the team!
Having pikachu following me around and checking in with them whenever will never not be cute. We've been robbed of quality following pokemon in the modern games.

So I said at some point that I'd post these QnA sections from the UK Marvels Care Bear comics and then never did it. Welp, I finally remembered! Back when these comics were running, you could send letters to the Care Bears characters, including Coldheart and Frostbite. Unfortunately despite continuing past the Nelvana series, you couldn't send mail to No Heart, Beastly, or Shreeky.. They actually never appear in the UK version, but the USA comics are in the magazine, just split up into weekly 'to be continued' parts.
Anyways, enough rambling, here's a little bit of Professor Coldheart lore. They were really making Tumblr ask blogs in 1985-.
Tumblr media
Well there you have it. Professor Coldhearts age is finally confirmed (somewhat). He's at least over 100 years old.
Tumblr media
(I've decided to crop out the 'Birthday' part when I can. Even though I highly doubt that anyone will go out of their way to seek out these people because their names were in a forgotten Marvel comic, it still feels more safe and respectful.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is Tenderheart the leader of the Care Bears? Not anymore apparently-
Tumblr media
I kind of wish companies still did stuff like this.. It really feels like an early Tumblr Ask Blog, but official. Just imagine if Care Bears started doing this again? But this time they're actually doing it on Tumblr.

I've been meaning to tell you how much I enjoy your blog! I also adore the Care Bears, and your favorite parts seem to line up really well with mine! The Nelvana series is my favorite, following by Unlock the Magic. The first two Nelvana movies are also my favorites. I love all of the Care Bears media. My absolute favorite, though, is seeing all of the Care Bears as cubs in the second movie. All of the songs/videos of them as cubs are super special to me...the songs are all so beautiful and happy. Forever Young and Growing Up always make me feel so good. Grumpy is my favorite Bear, so the parts where we get to see Grumpy as a cub are my ultimate favorites! Anyway, just wanted to let you know how much I'm enjoying your posts and how happy I am to see your blog and all of the great content you keep posting!
Daw thank you!! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the acc, it’s been really fun to run so far!
And you’re right, a lot of our favorite stuff seems to line up pretty well. Yknow funny enough, I never actually got to see all of the nelvana series when I was little. Mainly bits of it, so when I got back into it a few months ago I started looking on so many pirating sites to try and find it.
I kept looking and looking and almost gave up, but I decided to look on YouTube out of curiosity. Maybe a few episodes were there, I mean I knew the thanksgiving episode was at least.
And too my shock boom, the entire series is on there uploaded by the official Care Bears page. I was floored 😭
So I’ve been watching the whole thing recently, so far my favorite episode is probably The Sleeping Giant, idk why but that one was really cute to me.
And same here with the favorite bear! I adore Grumpy so much; I know a lot of people tease about how he’s always one of the main characters, but he balances out the other bears super positivity so well! Even when I wasn’t super obsessed with Care Bears I adored the guy, even got his funko pop a few years ago.
Anyways I’m gonna shush before I ramble too much, I’m happy you’re enjoying the acc! Tysm for the support 💙

Lost Media Dubs:
Below is a list of Lost Media that I'm searching for. Red means the dub is Completely Lost, Green is unknown/unsure about it's existence, Yellow means the dub has been Partially Found, and Orange means that I am unsure if it's actually missing episodes or not because of lack of information/nothing mentioning the actual episode number of the dub/contradicting information from different sources (whether it be almost every/every source contradicting or some/a few/several sources contradicting each other). If you have any footage, information, corrections, or are interested in helping me search for these dubs, you can contact me at either of the emails above. Thank you!
Arabic Dub:
تابالوغا التنين الأخضر/تابالوغا/Green Dragon Tabaluga/Tabaluga
Still compiling info, all episodes were supposedly dubbed, but only the pilot, the Season 3 intro and 58 seconds of an episode after the intro ends remains of the dub so far
Basque/Euskera/Euskara Lost Media:
Donkey Kong eta bere herrialdea/Donkey Kong and his country: Compiling info, all episodes were dubbed, and at one point we're most of the episodes were found, but they were taken down by I guess either Nelvana or Nintendo (I say this because the people who posted the links weren't aware of the links no longer working) and now the intro is all that remains of this dub. UPDATE (12/2/22): ALMOST THE ENTIRE BASQUE DUB HAS BEEN FOUND! ONLY 3 EPISODES ARE MISSING NOW!!! Here's the link to where the episodes are!
Catalan Lost Media:
Tabaluga (Compiling Info)
Chinese (Cantonese) Lost Media:
Tabaluga Cantonese Dub: Compiling info, title of the dub is unknown, no footage is left, and I am left unsure whether or not this dub even exists at all.
Spanish (Spain)/Español/Spain Spanish/Castilian/Castellano/Español de España Lost Media:
El País de Donkey Kong (Castilian/Castellano/Español de España Dub)
Danish/Dansk Lost Media:
Tabaluga (Danish Dub): Compiling info, the Season 1 intro, I believe, I'm not sure, it was one of the intros though, was on YouTube, but my stupid lazy ass didn't archive it, and it has become privated, so unless someone has archived it, the only footage of this dub has disappeared.
Finnish Lost Media:
Donkey Kong Country Finnish Dub (Still Compiling Info)
French/France French/France Français/Français/Française Lost Media:
Tabaluga Saison 1: It seems that Season 1 may have been dubbed in Français, however, any footage of this season have been lost to the sands of time except for two videos that show a Saison 1 intro
Greek Lost Media:
Ταμπαλούγκα (Alter Version): Compiling info, but it seems only one episode and a possible second version of the intro has survived, but I don't know how many episodes were dubbed
Ταμπαλούγκα (PIK2 Version): I don't know how many episodes were dubbed, and I haven't anything on this second dubbing and no footage seems to be left, so I am unsure if it even exists

Some random headcanons about Forest Friend & Sea Friend
Since they've recently made something of a comeback for Earth Day, here are some of my headcanons for the environmental duo (many of which I just came up with on the fly):
Can simply be called "Forest" and "Sea" for short
They are siblings
Originally from Australia (expect Australian accents if they were ever shown in an actual series or movie!)
Their strong desire to protect the environment caught the attention of the Care Bears sometime after the events of the Nelvana series
Two of the first "expansion members" (AKA, bears who weren't rescued by True Heart & Noble Heart), only behind Grams and Baby Hugs & Tugs
Were disciples of sorts to Friend Bear, who I headcanon as being a major leader during the bears' 90's environmental phase (which explains their similar names)
They both specialize in busting illegal operations that pollute their respective areas of expertise
And now for a somewhat amusing story: Very early in his life as a Care Bear, sometime in '92, Forest learned that regular animals were smarter than one would think, and capable of successfully revolting against human activity; One of his first missions involved investigating an illegal wood chipping operation in his home country.
By the time he arrived, he discovered that the mill had been destroyed, and the truck the owners used had been stolen. The owners angrily rambled about a pair of mischievous koalas and other bush animals such as a kangaroo, a mouse, and a platypus, and how they were the ones who stole the truck and trashed the mill. Forest only had one word on his mind at that moment: "...Extraordinary!"
Forest hoped that he could one day meet that gang of bush animals, or even just be around to see a similar scenario take place. Indeed, he would never forget THAT day...

“hey, Tack, you’re at Smile and Dokidoki now, are you going to be watching Gli-” no, I’ve had enough bad English localizations of magical girl shows in my life

Why is Cardcaptor Sakura ANYTHING so hard to find? There are hardly any fics on AO3, searching google for pics is like pulling teeth (especially if you’re looking for Touya/Yukito content), and I feel like the fans of the old 90s anime and manga are sleeping on the fact that THERE IS CURRENTLY A SEQUEL BEING PRODUCED. CLEAR CARD.
Like. Cardcaptor Sakura was an early magical girl series. It’s not THE magical girl series like Sailor Moon, but it’s pretty damn close, and like Sailor Moon it also got a terrible English dub that cut out all the Japanese, reordered a bunch of episodes, and erased all the gay.
And there is So Much Gay in Cardcaptor Sakura. Syaoran has a crush on Yukito (Jfc who doesn’t, for real) for half the series, Tomoyo has a crush on Sakura, Tomoyo’s mom was in love with Sakura’s mom, and Touya and Yukito were one of the ONLY confirmed gay couples not just in the series but on tv and in manga as a whole in the 90s. Like, Touya and Yukito were to legitimately some people’s first exposure to male homosexuality and acceptance of it, just like Haruka and Michiru were many people’s first exposure to and acceptance of female homosexuality. In a society where we headcanon the fuck out of literally everything and ship everything and are super quick to label this or that character LGBTQ+ and then fall in love with them, it blows my mind at how overlooked Touya/Yukito (and by extension Cardcaptor Sakura) are.
Guys. Please read or watch Cardcaptor Sakura (and if you prefer a dub, a better one than the crappy Nelvana dub exists). Then read or watch the Clear Card arc. Fall in love with these characters and blast social media like tumblr and whatnot with art and fics and long rambling meta (and boy does CCS have that, considering it crosses over and is intimately connected with not one but two other CLAMP series). I would’ve thought with the debut of Clear Card we’d see a resurgence of CCS fans the way we did Sailor Moon with Crystal and I just... don’t see that?

Rambling Thoughts on Rock & Rule (1983)
Tumblr media
Half essay, half ramble under the cut.
When I first saw Rock & Rule, it was suggested to me on youtube in 2016. The fact that it was an ‘80s cartoon film I hadn’t heard of before made me jump on the opportunity to watch it. My love for animation had really been rejuvenated at the time, so I felt really lucky to have it suggested it to me.      There were a lot of things in the movie that really stood out to me for things I love. For one, it almost always is at night. There’s a really weird feeling about being out at night, it’s beautiful but also something that gives me some anxiety that’s always under the surface. There’s also a lot of implications about the larger world. For example, there’s a man in a bizarre kit who shouts “Fog squad, get off the streets!” in one scene. Like what the hell is a Fog Squad? Is he there to stop people from getting lost in the fog or what? What causes there to always be fog in the city? There are a lot of things implying a larger world. With all the fan created characters, stories, and appreciation blogs out there I can’t be alone on that feeling of there being more to explore.    From a technical standpoint, the movie just looks really good to me. There are some quirks of design and animation here or there but in all honesty it has an unmistakable look to it. Angel is honestly so pretty it’s messed up. The backgrounds all look gorgeous to me.    After I finished the movie, it left a big impact on me. I wanted to know more about the movie, and it had a really big impact on my aesthetic blog here too. I learned more about the history of its production, and how the studio burnt down and we lost a lot of the music to the film. How changes had been made at the last minute, and the film nearly bankrupt Nelvana. I had dreams, multiple times, about how finding a lost version of the film or the movie’s music tracks.     I had to show people this movie, even though many times I’d get embarrassed about showing them. Or maybe not embarrassed, but maybe nervous that people might dislike it or think it was weird I liked it as much. Everyone I’ve shared it with loved it, so I guess that’s a bonus!     This movie is really dear to me, and I one day hope to contribute something great as tribute to it.

Ask HC: Canadian follower again. Fun fact: our hero Nelvana of the Northern Lights has been around since World War 2. She's the daughter of a literal god so she doesn't age. Rumor has it she helped train Majesta when she was first starting out as a hero.
Rena: *Near-incomprehensible ramble about Majestia Lore*
Carapace: "God I love you."

Omg I always forget about Care Bears until you post about them! It always brings back happy memories because when I was little, Care Bears was my favorite thing ever. I think I still have some of the DVDs, actually, so I might have to watch those again! Anyway aside from not knowing half the characters in your post about the sides’ favorites, it’s a really fun post and I totally agree with Grumpy being Virgil’s favorite :D
Care Bears are my favorite franchise ever, and I have loved them since I was 3 years old lol I used to have the movies on VHS and my bears all came with a VHS that had, like, 2-3 nelvana and/or dic episodes on them so like...any time I get the opportunity to combine interests, I Will lol
There's a lot of care bears and it's hard to keep track of the ones introduced in the 00's because they went ham on that alckrgkakxjf and they're sTILL making new bears because ??? Why not lol
Sorry I will ramble for hours abt care bears oops

I’m Still Standing (2/3)
This is part two of my submission for the 6K challenge hosted by @tilltheendwilliwrite . It’s my first OFC fic so I’m a little nervous! This takes place in an Avengers AU, post Civil War, but I’ve chosen to believe that after a few years, they all forgave each other and worked together without Infinity War or Endgame happening. Yes, I am in denial. Part 3 will be up tomorrow. I need to proofread it once more.
Pairing: Steve Rogers x OFC            Word Count:1970
Warnings: Nothing in this part. maybe some bad Canadian humour and definitely Canadian spelling, but I am Canadian, so it’s allowed.
Summary: I chose Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing”. This story tells the tale of how this song brought Mia Rivers and Steve Rogers together.
I’m Still Standing Part 2
“And did you think this fool could never win
Well look at me, I’m coming back again
I got a taste of love in a simple way
And if you need to know while I’m still standing you just fade away
Don’t you know I’m still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I’m still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind
I’m still standing yeah yeah yeah
I’m still standing yeah yeah yeah”
“Oh, no,” Steve groaned as he walked down the hall towards his apartment a week later. He had spent time over the last few days thinking about the cute, curvy redhead who lived across the hall from him. Bucky had asked a dozen questions about the singing once Steve had gotten home the night he met Mia. However, once he’d figured out that the person behind the music had piqued Steve’s interest, Sam had been told and the teasing had begun.
So Steve had avoided her a bit, hoping she was getting over the butthead ex and praying that Bucky and Sam would stop nudging Steve to talk to her or “run” into her at the building. But since that song was currently being blared from her apartment, Steve figured he should do something. But what? He stopped in front of her door and listened to Mia belting the tune out at the top of her lungs, all while he went over his options: ask her to turn it down and see if she was okay or maybe just turn around and go be teased by his friends for running away from the pretty girl.
After about 2 minutes of debating with himself, Steve went to the door intending to knock. Suddenly, the music stopped, and the door flew open, revealing Mia, dressed in a cute, blue gingham swing dress, with her red hair loosely curled and pinned up.
“Steve! Oh god, tell me my music wasn’t bugging you! I went over to your place and knocked. No one answered, so I assumed you weren’t home. God, you weren’t sleeping, were you?” Mia rambled, hoping she hadn’t bothered her newish, very cute neighbour again.
“No, no. You didn’t. I was just getting in, and well, when I heard the song again, I thought I’d check to see if you were ok. I mean, last time you seemed sort of…well…drunk and I wanted to make sure the ex hadn’t done anything to bother you again.” Steve explained, hoping that he wasn’t blushing as much as he felt he was.
“Oh god, that’s so sweet, Steve! Are you sure you aren’t Canadian? Sorry, joking! Thanks, neighbour, but I’m okay.” Mia tried to reassure him, as she patted him on the arm. “I just found out that the idiot ex was going to be at my friend’s party tonight so I needed to sort of psyche myself up for it. Convince myself that I don’t need him, and I’m okay and all that stuff. You know?”
Steve smiled down at where Mia’s arm rested on his. “Sure, I guess I can understand. I mean, my last relationship ended when our career paths went in a different direction” You know, when you went on the run from the law and basically hid for years from Sharon, he thought to himself.
“That stinks, Steve, seriously. But hey, you found someone again, right? James is a lucky guy! You moved on, so I have to believe there’s hope for me!” She stopped as her cell started to ring. “Sorry, Steve, but that’s my ride! I better go. Promise there’ll be no more Elton John playing tonight. Honest! Hey, I hope I get to meet James soon! Night!”
“Have fun!” Steve called back as Mia rushed down the hall to the elevator. She quickly waved back at him, and gave him one of her dazzling smiles. Steve just stood there staring at her as she left for the night. Hang on, what did she mean I found someone again? He wondered. James is a lucky guy? Does she mean Bucky? After a couple of minutes, he shook his head cluing in that Mia thought he and Bucky were a couple. I’m going to have to fix that assumption, he realized. Before she runs into Bucky and Sam.
______________________________________________________________________
Why, oh why, do the good ones have to be taken or in a happy relationship with another man? Mia wondered as she sat at a booth in her friend’s favourite pub. Seriously, who comes to check on a neighbour you’ve meet once after that neighbour has disturbed you. Oh, wait. I know who. Steve. Cutie pie, sweetheart, blue-eyed wonder, Steve Rogers.
“Okay, Mia. Spill it. Why do you keep grinning over here?” Caroline, Mia’s oldest New York friend, slid into the booth across from her. Mia looked at her friend, and tried to wipe the silly, Steve inspired smile from her face.
“It’s nothing, Caro, honest. Just me, having a good time, watching the idiot make a fool of himself.” Mia answered as she kept an eye on her ex, who was currently lurking at the bar shooting looks her direction.
“Nope. I don’t buy it.” Caroline grinned, as she poked Mia in the arm. “You’ve had the same dopey look for the last couple of days, and I want to know why. I mean, I’ve known you for the last six months, and the whole time you were with you know who, you didn’t have that look on your face. Not once.”
“Seriously, it’s nothing. I’ve just…umm…been thinking about the future. That’s all. And why is Colin here tonight?” Mia gave her friend her whole attention.
“He was invited before you guys broke up. Before the incident, you know? I asked Aaron to uninvite him, but he didn’t. I couldn’t figure out why at first, but I think Colin convinced Aaron that he wants to talk to you. I mean, look at him. He’s been trying to get your attention all night.” Caroline pointed to Colin at the bar. Mia glanced over to see him shoot her a tentative smile, wink and a wave.
“Nope. Nope. No. Not happening.” Mia assured Caroline. “I have no intention of talking to him tonight. We talked a few days ago over the phone, and he assured me that the rest of my stuff would be in my possession in a couple of days. I’m not going back. I’m moving forward.”
Caroline leaned forward on the table as she said, “That’s incredibly positive of you, Mia. I mean, if Aaron cheated on me, I’d want to rip his heart out with a spoon and feed it to the crows in the park for at least 6 months or so. But it’s only been, what, a month and you’re looking forward. I’m impressed.”
“Yeah, I just, I don’t know. I still hate that he did it, and I don’t know if I will ever fully forgive him, but, I don’t know. It got me to leave home and my safety net, and I really love a lot about my life here. I just…I don’t want to be a rage monster all the time.” Mia continued, “Don’t get me wrong, I have cried and raged. I even got drunk a few nights ago when Elton John and I had a ‘Time to Move On’ party.”
“Oh god. You and Elton John are a force to be reckoned with. What did you do?” Caroline chuckled.
“I may have been drinking white wine while singing along to my favourite. I guess I had it on repeat and annoyed my neighbour. He’s a nice guy. Sweet, you know?” Mia commented as the silly smile started again on her face.
“Amelia Rivers!” Caroline exclaimed. “Have you met someone who interests you already? I am shocked. I am stunned. Hell, I’m impressed!”
“No, it’s nothing like that,” Mia assured Caroline. “Steve’s just a nice guy who I annoyed. He lives with his boyfriend, James. I think he said boyfriend, not partner. I can’t remember. Besides, if you saw him, you would know he wouldn’t be interested in me. I mean, he’s blonde, has these beautiful blue eyes that are insane, and he’s really nicely built, you know? But honestly, he’s sweet, just seems like a good human. Trustworthy aura and all that. Hey, he even checked up on me tonight when he heard my music playing again. Steve Rogers is simply my nice neighbour.”
“STEVE ROGERS??” Caroline shrieked as she heard Mia say his name. “Mia, how did you not recognize Steve Rogers? He’s…that’s…he was Captain America before he retired.”
Mia stared at Caroline in shock. She had thought Steve looked a little familiar but thought that was from seeing him around the building and not because he was a celebrity or an ex-Avenger or anything. She blushed when she remembered how she first met him.
“Oh god,” she groaned. “He must think I’m an idiot. How could I not recognize him? Although I mean, I’m not from here, so I don’t pay that much attention to who is saving the world and all that. I’m just thankful the world is saved, you know? It’s not like he’s a big Canadian deal like Nelvana or Captain Canuck, but still…Good work, Mia.” She dropped her head onto the table and groaned again.
“Ummm, Mia, I also think you may be wrong about his lifestyle choices.” Caroline tried to comfort her friend as she reached over and patted Mia’s head. “Steve Rogers retired from active duty, passing the mantle of Captain America to his friend, Sam Wilson. When he stepped down as Cap, he said it was to help his oldest friend, James ‘Bucky’ Barnes adjust to civilian life. There was a whole statement and everything. I mean, he still works with the Avengers, but not the fighting stuff, you know. Now you, my friend, are living across the hall from two bona fide superhero friends, not a superhero supercouple.”
“Oh god, Caro. What do I do?” Mia moaned as she leaned back in the padded booth. “I didn’t even recognize him, and he’s this amazing, world-saving guy. Ugh. Even if I did like him and happened to think he has the nicest eyes and is a big sweetie, someone like him wouldn’t ever be into someone like-”
“Don’t you dare say what you are going to say, Mia. I will get seriously pissed off if you say you wouldn’t be enough for him.” Caroline stood up, looked at Mia, and firmly stated. “Steve Rogers retired so that he could have some sort of anonymity and normalcy, and you gave him that. You didn’t fawn all over him, you didn’t make a big deal about him and chances are, he probably appreciated that. And just so you know, you are one gorgeous human being, so get any negative thoughts out of your head. Just because Colin, the 5-minute wonder, cheated on you is not a statement on you.  You are a curvy woman with a killer smile, a personality as big as Canada, and I, for one, would love to have that hair of yours. When you see Steve Rogers next time, just be you. You’re the person who picked up her life after moving across the continent for a guy who didn’t deserve you. You didn’t slink back home, you went on and you’re kicking ass. You’re the person who is still smiling after everything. You, my friend, are awesome.”
Mia looked at Caroline with a huge smile on her face, and tears in her eyes. She stood up, hugged her friend, and cheekily asked, “Cause I’m still standing?”

Rain represents change.
I was thinking about symbolism in storytelling, particularly about rain. I think when asked to remember a scene in a story that had rain, many people first mention funeral scenes. The heavy downpour that reflects a heavy heart.
But I like to think of balance in symbolism, so when considering this I tried to think of the flip side, of positive rain symbolism.
I thought of scenes where a character runs out smiling in to the rain and the story says "this is a new beginning, they're finally happy". I think of at the end of the Lion King where it begins to rain during the big climatic battle at the end, and continues to rain as Simba steps up to roar and reclaim the throne.
What those all have in common is the idea of change, of rebirth, in a sense. Rain represents change, for better or for worse to the characters. It rains when a character slowly trudges home after an argument with a close friend. It rains as two acquaintances run under a shared jacket for shelter and laugh together as they learn to understand each other more. Rain washes in the old and awaits the new. Characters are scared of change, characters embrace the change, characters are washed away with it.
Let your stories have rain. Let the characters laugh in it, cry in it, scream into it, and let them grow because of it.

Back in October 2020, my good friend @tikki-tok (i.e @tikki-makes-art ) decided to start a Platinum playthrough together! We got into the Hall of Frame on March 12th, 2021, and after exploring some of the post game, we decided to follow my long standing tradition of drawing my team after beating a pokemon game, by collaborating on the art piece together. I did the sketch, Tikki did the lineart, I did the coloring, and then Tikki finished it off with the background and lighting effects!
We had tons of fun playing the game and coming up with this drawing, so now without further ado, some team info and playthrough commentary under the cut!
Team Tikki, in the order they were caught (Name, Species, Sex, Moveset):
“Paprika”, Infernape, ♀, Close Combat - Mach Punch - Fire Blast - Grass Knot
“Freya”, Staraptor, ♀, Close Combat - Return - Roost - Fly
“Korrina”, Floatzel, ♀, Aqua Jet - Crunch - Iron Tail - Waterfall
“Malibu”, Garchomp, ♂, Dragon Claw - Rock Slide - Earthquake - Crunch
“Skadi”, Glaceon, ♀, Shadow Ball - Ice Shard - Hail - Blizzard
“Leoru”, Lucario, ♂,  Aura Sphere - Stone Edge - Dragon Pulse - Drain Punch
Team Nelvana, in the order they were caught (Name, Species, Sex, Moveset):
“Zest”, Torterra, ♂, Curse - Rock Slide - Earthquake - Razor Leaf
“Xena”, Luxray, ♀, Return - Crunch - Iron Tail - Spark
“Bridget”, Floatzel, ♀, Ice Fang - Waterfall - Strength - Crunch
“Fothe”, Drifblim, ♀, Shadow Ball - Fly - Psychic - Minimize
“Tottle”, Lopunny, ♀, Return - Jump Kick - Quick Attack - Bounce
“Tempest”, Glaceon, ♂, Blizzard - Hail - Shadow Ball - Quick Attack
General Playthrough Notes:
We played every Tuesday evening until we beat the game and explored as much as the post game as we could (I’ll get back to that in a moment) Which for me brings us to the in-game time of nearly 39 hours. I believe that Tikki’s in-game time was about ten hours more than mine because she spent a lot of time, among other things, actually doing honey tree shenanigans and catching extra pokemon (which had to be trained up).
Speaking of, the final team they used for the Elite Four was not all the pokemon used by Tikki during the playthrough! It was just the team that he felt was best suited for tackling the league with. Some other honorable mentions of teammates for her are: “Syrup” the Bibarel, “Titanium” the Heracross, “Majesty” the Vespiquen, and “Lancer” the Roselia.
Actually funny story, while Tikki was off using several pokemon at once and just switching the roster every now and again, I sat with a party of five for most of the game! I told myself I’d only use glaceon if I didn’t have a full team by then, because I love glaceon but you can only get it by the seventh gym, which in most instances would be way too late in the game to be adding new team members, but for me? I never found a different pokemon I wanted to round the team out, so Tempest got to come along after all!
Okay back to the post game, turns out Platinum’s post game is really weird?? You have to fill out the regional dex to access certain bits, which for a game that just seeing each pokemon fills out the dex slot, is reasonable, except that manaphy is part of that dex and you cannot see a manaphy in Platinum without trading or having Pokemon Rangers. Unless we were both missing something, we were forced to miss out on some of the cool bits of that whole northern island of Sinnoh.
When we fought the E4, we had trained both our teams up to at least level 45 (though half my team was at least level 50), which is still quite a bit low for Cynthia, but we made it work.
Tikki, however, tried going through the game without using healing items, and this extended to the E4. The E4 was so difficult for her with that rule that they had to reload the save and ditch the rule last minute.
Everyone in Sinnoh has ADHD. Sorry we don’t make the rules.
Because I was playing on an emulator and sometimes experienced lag, and Tikki was playing on an actual DS but sometimes knocked the cartridge out of place and had to reload saves, we started making the semi-joking headcanon that we were connected to space/Palkia and time/Dialga respectively, which then escalated to our rivals being connected to Arceus and Giratina.
Speaking of, because I was playing the female trainer and Tikki chose the male trainer, our Professor’s assistant rivals were swapped, so to make things easier in conversation, we started calling Lucas/Dawn “Sapling” instead.
Also! We came up with the headcanon that the in-game mother character, Johanna, kinda looks after trainers who are away from home and helps support them on their journey. Since she also gives you the costume outfits and I am not a fan of dresses but Tikki liked how the dress looked, we like to imagine that she meant to give me the suit and them the dress but accidentally gave me the dress and them the suit, so we just swapped.
Why were there so many npcs that talked about being starving while standing next to berry trees? Is this a Sinnoh thing? Why is no one eating?
The seventh gym was really funny because I just swept with Zest using earthquake, and due to a flinch on the steelix with the kings rock, I never saw a single one of the gym leader’s attacks. I finished it so fast, in fact, that Tikki hadn’t even started, so I just said “I’d give you advice on how to beat the gym but I didn’t even see what it had to offer”
All in all, we both had a really fun time and I would highly recommend the Platinum experience! The AI is the best I think it ever has been for pokemon so it even poses a good enough challenge on top of just being a really fun time.

Anyone else ever think about why Belos brought the basilisks back from extinction? It obviously isn’t for any environmental reasons, he really isn’t that kind of guy, and besides, he’s just been hiding them in his basement doing experiments. He wants to use them for something, but what?
I propose that evidence of a possible motivation can be seen all the way back in the first time we get to see a basilisk in the show, back when it attacks Hexside. There we see that witches using only one kind of magic cannot stand a chance against a basilisk, however a witch using even just one other kind of magic causes the basilisk to struggle.
Belos has all witches divided into covens where they are limited to only one kind of magic, aside from his own coven, which can use any kind.
You can probably see where I’m going with this.
By Belos having his own mini army of basilisks, any time a witch in a coven tries stepping out of line, he can have a basilisk eat all their magic, eliminating the problem. Of course there’s still the Emperor’s Coven itself and wild witches, but the former he can keep a closer eye on anyway and the latter are the minority and constantly being hunted down even before basilisks are taken into the equation.
Emperor Belos has brought back the basilisks to use as a weapon against other witches, because they can’t fight back against basilisks with only one kind of magic.
(Alternatively, he wants to study them to extract some of their abilities. The magic eating especially, but the shapeshifting is something that could also be handy to Belos.)

Consider: Movie or book or other story with a genie where the human who owns the lamp is really smart and plans their wishes ahead. They spend a bunch of time writing out their wishes one at a time to be specific enough to avoid any malicious loopholes, and then wait up to a couple weeks in between wishes to make sure that things turn out exactly how they had hoped.
Except that the genie isn’t actually malicious, and is hurt that the human distrusts them so much. They’re really just a friendly genie who likes helping people! They don’t want the human to feel so worried about them, so they start trying to learn non-wish ways to help out a bit and show that they’re friendly.
Cue awhile of the genie learning new human customs, while the human themself is just confused, wondering at first if the genie is just trying to get their guard down, but eventually realizing that the genie really is just trying to be kind.
And then maybe for a cute ending, the genie gets really attached to human life and the human trusts them enough to consider them a friend, so for the last wish they write out one last hyper-specific wish, this time for the purpose of allowing the genie to stick around as a human (but probably still with magic powers because why not) without any strings attached so they can remain friends together.

3 for the Warriors ask game?
3. should hollyleaf have had a power?
Yes!! The fact that the only reason she never got one is because the Erins could not think of one at the time is such a rip off. I think it could have been neat to explore a dynamic where one sibling doesn’t have a power but the others do, kind of like what happened with Dovewing and Ivypool, but that didn’t happen at all with Hollyleaf, they just wrote her out completely and it’s very disappointing.
The “Hollyleaf should have had a power” argument has been made a lot and there’s a lot better explanations as to why online elsewhere that anyone could probably find, but I will put my vote in that the fan idea of Hollyleaf’s power having to do with making people speak the truth is very cool.
However, I will add to the argument that regardless of whatever Hollyleaf’s power could have been, it would have been better than Dovewing having a power. Nothing against Dovewing as a character, but she is too many “kins” estranged from the “kin of your kin” part of the prophecy to fit. “But the specific number doesn’t matter!” you may say, but everything else suggests that it matters a lot! So many times whenever the prophecy is mentioned it specifies how the three will be related to Firestar. Cloudtail is actually the other relative of Firestar that fits “kin of your kin” (Cloudtail is Princess’s kin who is Firestar’s kin), not Dovewing (Dovewing is Whitewing’s kin who is Cloudtail’s kin who is Princess’s kin who is Firestar’s kin).
Anyway, Hollyleaf should have had a power, or at the very least I think that an AU where Cloudtail is the third would be incredibly funny.
