Next Gen Headcanon Speedrun for the rest of the gang:
Victoire Gabrielle Delacour-Weasley | Gryffindor
Wand: rosewood and veela hair
Patronus: dragonfly
Profession: curse breaker
Bonus: inherited her mother's wand and is a huge mama's girl. The only sibling who doesn't have freckles. Initially, she did NOT want siblings as she was terrified of her parents forgetting about her, and she absolutely hated Dominique for the first few years. She warmed up to the idea of being a big sister when Louis was born though. Wicked smart, and she loves her work as a curse breaker. She also loves it because it's a great way for her to bond with Bill. She dated casually for a few years, her longest relationship being with Teddy, but found herself more invested in her work and decided to focus on that. Their breakup was cordial and mutual, and they're still close friends. She isn't extremely close to either of her siblings but does love them immensely.
————
Frederick Percy Weasley | Gryffindor
Wand: dogwood and billywig stinger
Patronus: basset hound
Professions: nightclub owner
Bonus: transmasc, named himself "Frederick Percy" after his godfather and late uncle. Used to fight with his father a lot as a teen and argued with Roxanne constantly, though his relationship with his younger sister improved greatly after graduating. Rox is the one who tattooed him after his top surgery scars healed. They're extremely close as adults. Dominique and Teddy were the ones who supported him the most through his transition. As a teenager he'd get into screaming matches with George and end them by leaving the house and going to Percy's until he'd calmed down. Percy was more than happy to accommodate him and be a safe space. Percy is the one who told him stories about Fred. Took a ton of odd jobs after school and saved up so he could buy his own property and open a club that catered to wizards and could be a safe space for socializing. It quickly becomes extremely popular.
————
Rose Minerva Granger-Weasley | Gryffindor
Wand: red oak and dragon heartstring
Patronus: field mouse
Profession: Ministry Worker - expert on human/animal spirits and non-human spiritous apparitions
Bonus: a daddy's girl, better wizards chess player than Ron. Doesn't approve of alternate magics like divination mostly because her mother doesn't like it. Once when Ron was drunk he told her how her mother had been tortured at Malfoy manor and how Draco once called her a mudblood, which is what began her seething resentment towards the Malfoys and Scorpius in particular. Does not approve of his friendship with Hugo or his relationship with Albus. Very stubborn and headstrong with excellent grades, though she isn't actually the biggest fan of studying. She desperately works for the best grades possible to make her parents proud. Has a somewhat strained relationship with her mother due to the fact she's always busy and working, and her father drinks liberally so it's difficult to talk to him. Unintentionally adopts her parents' traumas because she knows too much about them since drunk Ron talks a lot. It takes her a long time to shake out of it and come into her own person.
————
Hugo Arthur Granger-Weasley | Gryffindor
Wand: pear and dragon heartstring
Patronus: brown bear
Profession: herbologist
Bonus: gender fluid he/they, his grandfather Arthur's favorite grandson. Fred is his favorite cousin. Thinks Rose really needs to calm down. As an herbologist he often assists James and Scorpius in their individual work as both have careers that are heavily influenced by herbology. Straight up refuses to drink alcohol and will get angry if people try to peer pressure him into it. Consistently steals his sisters clothes, she puts up with it cuz that's her baby sibling, but she also tried to take him shopping for his own stuff. "I can just buy you a nice dress" "No I wanna wear yours :(" "so do i???".
————
Molly Audrey "MJ" Weasley | Gryffindor
Wand: aspen and dragon heartstring
Patronus: lioness
Profession: quidditch keeper in the league
Bonus: the most Gryffindor-like out of all the next gen. Confident, reliable and outrageously courageous to the point of insanity. She's the one who brings home strays asking if they can keep them. Strays can range from kittens, to snakes, to boar piglets, to random homeless folks (she's the reason for all Percy's gray hairs). Played as a keeper on the house team but was also a reserve beater for emergencies. Admires the hell out of her older cousin Lily. Loves to go practice flying with her step-father (oliver wood, because I believe in a perciver future where percy and audrey divorce soon after lucy is born and he gets full custody).
————
Lucy Olivia Weasley | Gryffindor
Wand: hazel and unicorn hair
Patronus: hummingbird
Profession: healer
Bonus: got her middle name from oliver. a hat stall because the sorting hat couldn't decide whether to put her in gryffindor or hufflepuff. Put her in gryffindor because "well you are a weasley and ive always known where to put you". Teddy gave her one of his old scarves to wear after she asked because she insists she can be both! She'd help MJ nurse all the strays back to full health. If one of her fathers or sister got sick, she'd be the first to make tea and sit by their bedside until they were better. Wakes up before dawn without needing to set an alarm. Makes friendship bracelets for everyone in her family. Oliver never takes his off.

PAST:
percy was destined to achieve great things, you see. he had the mind,  the determination and persistance for it. he'd managed to fit in his  studies, social life, bonus subjects, extracurriculars and being a  prefect and head boy. and he enjoyed it, he truly did - the  responsibility over others and himself, being on the move all day every  day. in a family of seven kids, one as chaotic as the weasleys, it was  hard to have your achievements be acknowledged always, to stand out. but at school, percy was the best at what he did. every good grade, every professor's praise made it all worth it.
a future career at the ministry was a well planned out goal of percy's and whatever he set his mind to would always happen.  he was so close -- right after graduating, at the age of eighteen, he  could win an internship at the ministry, working with fudge, being his  mentee. it would be a dream come true for percy and everything he worked  so hard for would pay out -- so many opportunities, a shit ton of money  and that'd be just the beginning.
at the end, there was  just percy and one other person considered for the internship. sure,  percy might have worked a hundred times harder, he might have been  smarter, but there was one thing he lacked - money and connections.  percy did not get picked and suddenly, he felt like it was all for  nothing. he still recalls the awkward silence as his family watched him  read the letter. perhaps they'd expected him to blow up or go on tangent  of how much better he was as percy does, but he didn't really react. and that's when the burnout finally settled in. what was the point?
for the next two years percy was quite unrecognizable and it was  noticeable he'd lost the passion and drive. sort of drifted apart from  his family, as well, especially when he moved out ( and basically lived at the three broomsticks because that's where he'd spend most of the his nights. the bar, that is ).  the biggest shock was when he didn't continue his education at  aurelius; especially for molly. a series of bad decisions later, percy  did end up picking himself up. there's only so much time one can handle  without mansplaining the wizarding history to people.
HEADCANONS & PERSONALITY
percy still gets carried away in his goals to the point he ends up  overlooking or hurting those closest to him - partners, family,  friends. he doesn't mean it most of the time and he truly cares for  them, just shows it in a.. percy way.
a lot less uptight than in his younger years, but still a pretentious little shit. you don't know more about him on that subject and that's that on that. could argue for hours, but he always has to be right. if he admits defeat, it's a big deal so the person ought to feel special.
huge quidditch fan and loves old muggle rock bands. oh and classical music. you will find him blasting lacrimosa at 3am during the exam session
would rather break his own leg than admit he needs help, even emotionally. he's the one who takes care of things and people, not the other way around.
has a patrick bateman ass routine. big on taking care of himself, but smokes like a chimney.
seems arrogant and is to an extent, but percy’s extremely hard on himself
he’s such a virgo it hurts
WANTED CONNECTIONS
someone he tutors. this person’s on the verge of failing this class and doesn’t want to take it seriously, which just gets on percy’s nerves. every tutor session these two are on the verge of killing each other.
ex. they dated for four years and things were pretty serious but they broke it off a few months ago. it was a... turbulent relationships and things are pretty awkward now. they’d rather not be in the same room together.
other ex. they were ‘high school’ sweethearts. ended up breaking up when they were eighteen, around the time percy lost the internship. it was percy’s fault because he refused to be vulnerable with them at that time and was, in other words, an inconsiderate asshole. maybe they’ve reconciled and are on good terms now or they haven’t been in touch since then.
best friend
frenemies / the unlikely friend
2 hogsmeade roomies

Your Harry Potter favorite characters
I imagine that this question implies a "besides Harry and Ginny".
One of my first posts on this blog was an answer to someone asking me my top 10 of my favorite HP characters and I remember saying that the first five were set in stone, and yet I'm not so sure anymore. They were in order: Harry, Ginny, James, Ron, Hermione.
The first three are really always going to be there. I still really love Ron, but Hermione? I don't know. I've always had mixed feelings about her and I've always analyzed these books but writing things down on this blog made me look at things that I never fully registered about her because I was never particularly interested in her character. I have an ask about Hermione that is tormenting me because the jury is still out on her.
On that list, there were also characters like Luna, and sure, great character, but saying that you love Luna is like saying that you love rainbows, it doesn't really mean anything. She's a positive secondary character we know three things about. Of course, everybody likes her.
The same goes for McGonagall, I love her to death but like who doesn't?
So frankly I do not know how to do a top 10 or something like that. I guess it is not that surprising, I've been a hardcore Taylor Swift fan since age 12 and I'm still unable to do a ranking of her albums.
But I thought that maybe I could still do something interesting with this ask and give you little windows on some characters that I love but that are considered controversial.
For example, in that famous list, I avoided putting Dumbledore because it was one of my first posts and I wasn't in the mood to deal with someone wanting to murder me. But the truth is that I love Dumbledore, ok? I do, I'm sorry. The man was in a large-scale version of the trolley problem, villainizing him makes no sense. How heartless you need to be to read the King's Cross chapter in DH and hate Dumbledore? He's not perfect but that's kind of the point. I think that, unlike Harry, a lot of people didn't get over the betrayal of finding out that he wasn't just a saint-like, wise, grandpa like it seemed in the first books.
Another character that I love is Slughorn. He's so real as a character. He is far from being an exemplary man but I believe him to be the best example of a good Slytherin in the entire series. And while he does sin in cowardice he ends up showing true braveness and the core of a fundamentally good man. I also find him extremely interesting in regards to all his connections and parties and while his method in the way he offers opportunities to his students may sound elitist (and it is) he's also literally the only professor who cares about introducing his students to the work market in a world (the wizarding one) that is far from being democratic and meritocratic. Even if, to be honest, that has probably more to do with JKR's poor world-building skills.
I also really like Percy. I find him quite fascinating honestly. He comes back for the battle doing the right thing and ultimately showing that he truly belongs in Gryffindor. But what interests me is the "betrayal" of his family. I've always seen the Voldermort-is-back debate as a bit of an excuse that he used. I'm sure he did believe to be right initially, like the letter he sends to Ron proves, but I think that it was more of an opportunity he jumped on to separate himself from the Weasleys. We often talk about the consequences on Ron's confidence due to growing up in his family but Percy was forced into a pretty shitty role too. He's four years younger than Charlie. There's a significant distance with his older brothers that cuts him off from the older siblings club. The Weasleys also all go to boarding school since age eleven, Bill and Ginny have never lived under the same roof for a whole year. So Percy was basically the older brother for the majority of his life, the one who had to take care of the young ones. But the thing is, he's not the oldest brother. So the youngest four glorify Bill and Charlie, which is pretty normal, but it's usually balanced by the oldest siblings becoming annoying because they impose themselves as additional parents. But Bill and Charlie escape the majority of the usual older siblings' responsibilities for years. So they take the glory and Percy is stuck with just being "hated" for imposing himself as a responsible figure. He tends to isolate himself and be very different from the rest of his family, and also, of course, he becomes defensive of his being responsible. As the cherry on top, his interests are then ridiculed. And his breaking point is in fact his father, the person he seems to admire the most, not believing in him (at least this is what happens in his perspective). There's also resentment for their economic condition, and let's face it, Percy is not totally wrong but this is another discussion. I don't know, while his method was certainly wrong, maybe I would have wanted to go away from home too in his place.
Are James and Sirius controversial characters to like? If you talk to a Snape apologist they are Lucifer incarnated. I guess it's not surprising that I love them. I think this post makes it clear that I enjoy flawed yet fundamentally good characters that own up to their mistakes. James and Sirius are funny and charismatic and talented. Their attacking Snape is obviously wrong but there are a lot of circumstances around that action that now I'm not getting into because this is something I could talk about for hours. And James' hexing random people in the halls, while certainly a sign of immaturity (an immaturity he grew out of to the point of becoming Head Boy), can't be considered bullism. A hex is not our equivalent of a punch. Think about 15-year-old boys and then give them magic wands. What do you think they would do with them, honestly? Harry does it too in HBP when he starts learning spells from the Prince and James and Sirius are basically two young geniuses, who knows how many spells they knew. I could prattle on about these two endlessly but if you've read JKR's short story about them and you still do not love them, then I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree.

My view on Molly Weasley
OKAY lets talk about this it important.
Now i’m not saying she was evil, she wasn’t but i do not think she was a nice person but not a great mother and here are my reason. (i go by the books)
i think the biggest one is her treatment of the twins. First let just address the fact she never knew the difference it is noted that even harry could tell the difference. now yes i understand they were identical twins but i’m sure there would have been some difference, their voices their way of being i mean they aren't clones. surly a mother should know her own children. then there is the plain lack of acknowledgement of their talent, yes they misbehaved and had to be held accountable but they were really smart wizards even the professors where impress but because they weren't what she want the completely disregards them., this shows when ron get perfect and she reply greats thats all my sons but the twins nor Charlie where perfects. Then there is that lack of surrport for the joke shop, now yes i understand they didn't go around somethings right, and i get a mother wanting a more stable career path for her sons and a new business is hard but they didn't do this on a whim it was clear this was always the plan and they had a business at Hogwarts they knew what they were doing. But rather than sit down and try to understand her sons and help them like any mother would do she get rid of all their products that took them ages to make and then compares them to their bothers.
Next big one is Fleur. now that girl did not deserve the treatment from molly. she connately looked down on her, accused her of using her powers to get bill to marry him. she then continued to say they were only getting married so soon out of fear that they would die in the war when it was then pointed out that she herself did the exact thing during the first war. And during the battle in Half blood prince when bill is left with all those scars she implies that fleur will leave him now to which she reply i have enough beauty for the both of us. only then does she warm up to her, but she allows ginnys behaviour dare i say bulling to go on with reprimand.
Next - Controlling we see it throughout the books who she tries to control her children into her vision for them but its most obvious with the clock, which literally track all her children movements now yes i understand wanting to know where they are but once they hit 15+ you have to give them trust it is not healthy to track and control almost living through them i think. just think about it this way if you hear a mother was tracking her teenager though their phone you would understand but still think it was creepy right?
Next comparing her children, i touched on it when talking about the twin, but you see it throughout the books and think the best way to see the effect it has is ron in the first book he is happiest when he is like his older brothers head boy like bill and quidditch captain like Charlie. you just don’t do that.
Next - treatment of ron. now he wasn’t abused like harry but he was neglected to an extent, ron never got his own wand until they were forced to get him one, yes they were poor but EVERYONE else go their own wands but him, they got Percy a owl when ron could have gotten his wand since it was common knowledge the wand picks the wizard, then we got the the hand me down robes fo the yule ball, bare in mind the twins aren't giants in the books they are around the same height. But ron get the embarrassing robes, its a lack of care really then the howler which only propose was to embarrasses ron she could have checked him in more decent  ways but no she sends a howler at breakfast where everyone was the shout at him, and she knew he couldn't be alone because she add ginny to the note.
Next - not know her own children perfence / or not caring. this is noted when ron get another purple jumper while harry get a quidditch themed one. she also gives ron corn-beefed sandwich which he hates and would have surly said to her at some point.
Finally her favourites of ginny, it’s clear she wanted a daughter and once she got her that was it

prompt: (muggle au or harry never went to hogwarts au) ginny introduces her boyfriend harry to her family
Thanks for sending this!! I legit dont know how this became this long i thought it’d be much shorter lmao but here ya go! I went with Muggle AU
She leaned over and planted a kiss on his clean-shaven cheek. “Ready?” she asked, but did not wait for an answer as she pushed her door open, hopped out onto the street, pushing the car door shut behind her with her hip. She walked around the front of the car and waited for him to get out of the driver’s seat. But he hadn’t moved; his hands were still on the bottom of the wheel.
She knocked on his window. “Uh, Harry? You’re still buckled in, love.” He nodded, taking his seatbelt off, and leaned over to grab the flowers behind the passenger’s side. He finally opened the car door and stepped out slowly. Ginny giggled as she shut the door for him, before turning to straighten his collar and run a hand through his hair. “They’re all going to love you,” she soothed him. “Everything you’ve ever told me contradicts that.” “Mum and Dad will, at least,” she assured him. “Fred, George, and Ron…well, they’re another story.” “That’s who I’m worried about!” “I can handle them if they act up, so don’t. And besides, as I told you before, at least you won’t have to worry about Bill. Just his wife, Phlegm.” Harry smiled just the slightest. “Can you remind me her real name again, please? So I don’t accidentally call her that to her face?” Ginny laughed. “I wish you would. But it’s Fleur. And just remember-“ “-don’t mention Percy,” he finished. “But bring up how I wish I could meet Charlie, who’s in Romania, who was offered a position for Chelsea but turned it down.” “See? You’re gonna knock ‘em dead.” She took his free hand and dragged him towards the door. “Pretty sure that’s what they’re going to do to me,” he muttered, but she ignored him. They reached their destination and Ginny pushed the door open. As they walked in, they could hear Mrs. Weasley scrambling over to them excitedly. She hugged Harry immediately, telling him how happy she was to finally meet him and thanked him for the flowers. She took them from him and let him know how soon dinner would be ready, and that they just needed to wait for Mr. Weasley to return from work, and led him toward the sitting room. There, he saw an assembly line of tall, redheaded men, and one very pretty woman attached to one of them. Bill and his wife introduced themselves kindly before going to help Mrs. Weasley in the kitchen. Then he turned to face the rest of them. From everything Ginny had said about the way her brothers would badger her about her dating life in high school, he assumed they’d be standing there with fists and jaws clenched. To Harry’s pleasant surprise, they all seemed eager to shake his hand and greet him; well, at least Fred and George were, whereas Ron seemed a bit nervous. Harry, who felt prepared, mentioned how he wished he could meet Charlie. But then the conversation quickly turned to football and Liverpool and everything they ever wanted to know about him, Harry Potter, the youngest player to ever be recruited to the Premier League. After a few minutes of answering their questions on the couch, Harry turned to Ginny with a suspicious look. “Did you put them up to this?” “Of course not,” she scoffed. “They’re fans. Can you blame them?” “Right, but I didn’t realize just how much. Why-” “Because,” Fred interjected, a note of amusement in his voice, “she didn’t wanna blow her cover. Did you, sis?” “No clue what you’re talking about,” said Ginny, her eyes throwing daggers at Fred. “We’re a big football family,” George informed Harry. “We all played in school. Ginny, too.” “She was captain of the girls’ team,” Fred added. Ginny rolled her eyes. “He knows that already.” “Yeah,” Harry echoed, still feeling a bit perplexed. “It was a big bonding point for us.” “Ah, yes,” George sighed. “But she must have neglected to tell you that she was practically the president of the Harry Potter fan club for a year before you lot met; rallied us all in.” There was a long pause. Harry turned to his girlfriend, who avoided his eyes, picking lint from her pants. “Not literally,” she murmured. Then Ron finally spoke. “No, just the top poster on the Harry Potter subreddit.” Harry’s jaw dropped as her brothers roared with laughter. He looked at Ginny, and he had never seen her look so mortified. He wanted to ask more questions, but he didn’t want to embarrass her in front of her brothers. However, he didn’t have to. Ginny took matters into her own hands, grabbing Harry and dragging him away from the scene while saying, “Excuse us,” to her brothers as passive-aggressively as she could. She led him up one flight of steps wordlessly, and then let go of his arm, gestured for him to walk into her room, and once he did she followed, kicking the door closed behind her. “Look,” she turned to him, and her face was so brightly flushed that it almost matched her hair. “Yes, I was a huge fan. Yes, I spent an inordinate amount of time on the Harry Potter subreddit watching interviews and highlights and occasionally swooning over your eyes, sue me. But I don’t want you to think I was a stalker or anything. I would never have tried to invade your privacy like that.” “You sure that when we met at the pub you hadn’t tailed me there?” he asked playfully. “Cross my heart,” she swore. “It was just some god up there looking out for me and by happenstance having me be at The Cauldron the same moment in time as my celebrity crush. And besides, you came up to me!”
“For president of my fan club, you played it pretty cool,” he smiled, putting his arms around her waist.
Ginny laughed, sounding almost nervous. “I was dying inside. Absolutely dying. I couldn’t believe my fate.”
“Had you really not even noticed I was there until I came up to you asking if you were saving the seat next to you?” When she shook her head he asked, “What if you had? Would you have come up to me?”
“I definitely would have. And I wouldn’t have played it as cool, either. You probably wouldn’t have fallen in love with me had things played out that way.”
“Of course I would,” he assured her, kissing her forehead. “But why did you never tell me?”
“I mean, I did tell you my brothers and I were fans. I just…downplayed the extent of it.”
“Are you still my biggest fan?” he asked, smiling brightly.
She smiled back, pushing herself up to kiss him on the mouth. “Even more so, now.”
“Did I live up to your expectations?”
“Surpassed them.” He leaned in to kiss her again, and she wrapped her arms behind his neck. “You’re not totally freaked out?” she asked cautiously.
Harry laughed. “No. Makes me feel even more special to you. Makes you more special to me.” And he meant it.
Ginny sighed happily, melting into him. He stroked her hair as he held her, feeling utterly content with her in his arms, his heart swelling as she whispered, “I love you. And not just because you’re a super fit and successful football player. I’m just lucky that you’re those things and as wonderful as you are on your own.”
Harry chuckled. “I love you too,” he declared. After a few long, lovely moments of holding each other, Ginny nudged her head against Harry’s, adjusting them so she could kiss him. Harry kissed her back, his hands roaming up and down her body until Ginny began to giggle against him, pushing him away. “Harry, we’re at my parents’ house.”
He cleared his throat, trying to come back to his senses. “Sorry. Forgot myself a bit there.”
“It was lovely,” she told him, taking his hands and pulling him back to her. “Normally I’d never request for you to keep your hands to yourself. But my dad’s going to be home any second for dinner…save it for dessert at yours, okay?”
“Yes ma’am,” he agreed, wiggling his eyebrows, and at that moment they heard Mr. Weasley walking in through the front door.
“Suppose I’m psychic,” Ginny intertwined her fingers with his and used her free hand to reach for the door. “Well, c’mon, I know Dad is excited to meet you and Mom is excited to feed you. And the boys didn’t interrogate you about whether you’re going to break my heart, or try to pretend like I’m still a child and have never so much as snogged anyone, or-“
“And what exactly were you two doing up there, hmm?” Fred interrupted as they met him and George, sharing twin smirks, at the foot of the stairs.
Ginny groaned. “Spoke too soon.”

(1) Draco, Harry, Hermione & Ron (aged 23) all are working on a case. Harry & Ron are Aurors. Draco & Hermione are both Healers & Unspeakables. The case is something like a bunch of Death Eater wannabes trying to resurrect the dark lord. So while busting in on their ritual all 4 are transported to their younger bodies at different times. Draco (5), Ron (7), Hermione (9), Harry (11) (The day before Hagrid comes to fetches him.)
(2) Harry and Draco were married so they use a phrase to each other so the other knows that they're the other and then plan a meet in the Room of Requirements. After confirming that Ron and Hermione (Married) are who they are too they go to the meet too. While each playing the roles they had the first time around. They then work out a plan for the war (Since Draco hasn't found a way back they plan to change things).
(3) Draco needs to play the bully/death eater and work to save the lives of the war victims. While Harry, Ron and Hermione work out the horcrux ect. Befor and during the war they secretly work to make preperations and stuff to minimize the damage while also playing their parts as school rivals. And they manage to minimize the deaths and they manage to save a lot of familiar faces. Sirius, Remus, Tonks, George ect.
(4) So after Harry kills Voldemort (He had an argument with Draco cuz Draco was worried he wouldn't come back this time) they're in the grand hall and everyone just sees the golden trio going to Draco with smiles. Ron gives him a handshake, Hermione a Hug, and shockingly Harry kisses him infront of everyone (Draco's parents are like "WTF?") And says "Told you i wouldn't die." "Shut up you bloody git". (In my head its a long fic with a LOT of stuff added. I just wanna know how you'd write this)
Mmh, yes this would be a long plotty fic, so I won’t detail the structure, just some of the elements I would use to build it.
First, I would have them go back to exactly one month before they turn 11. There is a very nice symmetry there and we avoid having Draco too long in his child’s body. An adult Draco in a 5-year-old body would be terrifying. Lucius would just flee the country.
So they go back to 11 minus one month. Harry and Draco have 1-2 summer months to get settled and start figuring things out, Ron gets around 7 months to think about family dynamics and draft a plan to contact his friends. Hermione has a whole year plus change to rage, study and come up with a definite plan to Get Things Right.
There is a beautiful tense scene as they board the train, because Harry and Ron don’t know if their friend is their old self or their young self. They are both very cautious around each other until Harry notices the way Ron looks at Scabbers and he knows. It just takes a couple of loaded comments afterwards to recognize each other.
Hermione barges in their compartment in her usual way and they have to drop some very heavy hints to remind her they are not alone. They can’t spook Pettigrew.  Draco comes by, stares at Harry in silence for a whole minute and then passes him a note saying he can’t find the diary and also he ordered Dobby to go serve Harry, he should be waiting in Hogwarts. It is unclear whether Draco knows this Harry is the old Harry because Draco is, and has always been, kind of odd. It took them a while to discover it, but Draco is just a bunch or random powerful ideas held together with anxiety and fire. Harry loves him so much.
They go to Hogwarts. You would think that in this timeline Harry would be the most belligerent/hostile of them, but it is actually Hermione. Hermione is a nightmare student. She has a list of one hundred and fifty names and she is going to save all of them (except maybe Dumbledore and Snape). She has no time nor attention to waste in silly classes telling her what she already knows. She only comes to class sporadically, aces all her tests and hands out beautiful neat homework that barely took ten minutes out of her day to complete. Teachers hate her (or heavily dislike her), but they can’t expel her. It’s beautiful. The twins develop a crush on her.
Harry waits patiently until Christmas so Dumbledore can gift him the Invisibility Cloak and then announces that he is not going back to the Dursleys. Dumbledore insists. Harry says softly “by Jove, I will not” and Dumbledore thinks about that exchange for a week. He forgets about it when ten days later there is an incident in Transfiguration class and McGonagall discovers that Ron’s pet rat Scabbers is actually Peter Pettigrew.
(They were going to wait until Quirrell tried to steal the philosopher’s. Hermione insisted they couldn’t deviate too much of the original timeline or they would lose their advantage of knowing what was going to happen. If something was going to change, it was better to attach it to some other important event.
But Harry pointed out that it would be much easier to keep Sirius alive if he had some extra months of freedom and he didn’t have to live as a fugitive and Ron was certain that they would be fine even if they changed everything. It wasn’t just their knowledge of the events to come, it was their knowledge, period, their experience.
Ron is a man now, and adult, and he is kind of freaked out at the shenanigans they did when they were merely children. What were they thinking? Was there no competent adult to point out that were kids? It shouldn’t be up to them to rescue Sirius or Buckbeak, what in the seven hells.)
Anyway, Sirius is freed and Dumbledore is forced to explain everything about prophecies and love magic and blood protection early, because Harry insists he is going to live with Sirius. Harry agrees to go back to the Dursleys for two weeks, but Sirius has to come with him and no, he will not come as a dog, that’s demeaning. He will spend his time at the Dursleys as a human, thank you very much.
Sirius is the first adult to realize that there is something not quite right about Harry. The others had noticed that Harry was… special. But Sirius is the first one to see through, although he doesn’t know what he is seeing exactly.
Lucius still uses the Diary against the Weasleys, but this time Ron picks it up. Their first week back in Hogwarts, they all go for a nice excursion down to the Basilisk lair. They bring the Diadem, too. Harry speaks to the Basilisk and both horcruxes are destroyed.
The rest of the year is spent plotting. Draco takes on the role of the bully and plays it up to hilarious heights. He picks on everyone, and that’s everyone, except Neville and Luna. Funnily, Cedric Diggory is a big fan of him and always answers to Draco’s banter.
Draco suggests having a Duel Club to Lockhart. There has been no student attacks, of course, but Lockhart loves the idea and Draco wants the opportunity to fight Harry and make ridiculously sexually charged comments. They have five very nice duelling sessions until the curse of the DADA post acts up and professor Lockhart is unavailable the rest of the year.
(Harry tutors everyone in his year so this time people will actually now how to cast a protego. Ginny comes to the classes too and is by far his best student).
That summer, Ron has a very long chat with Percy explaining everything. Ron is now eight years older than Percy and understand why his brother fell to the Ministry and rejected his family. The Weasleys had pushed him that way, hadn’t they? Ron also understands that suddenly being nice to Percy and giving him recognition won’t work. It’s too late. But telling Percy they come from another timeline in which Fred died gets Percy’s attention immediately. Percy spends a whole weekend freaking out in silence (nobody notices, of course, and boy is Ron appalled at his family dynamics). Come Monday, Percy emerges relatively calm, all things considered. He has given himself a haircut and is resolved to infiltrate the Ministry.
The locket is destroyed that summer. They let Sirius and Kreacher do it.
They were hoping to have all horcruxes down before Voldemort rose back, but Pettigrew escapes Azkaban and Voldemort comes back a year ahead of schedule. (Early 4th year).
Dumbledore locates the ring. Despite warnings from all of them (and Snape) he still puts the ring on and gets a curse for it. Hermione says if he is going to be like that, she will take him from her To-Save list.
Barely eight months after Voldemort comes back to power, the Ministry is full of his followers. For now, Voldemort is happy with acting from the shadows, but soon he will want more and the four of them want to avoid open war as much as possible.
Percy sends Ron Helga’s cup, broken. Ron asks how he did it in case they ever find themselves in a similar situation (new timeline and all), but Percy only says that he asked politely. That means there are only two (two? Or is it one?) horcruxes remaining. Draco decides to speed things up, before Voldemort stars his terror campaign. He tells his father than Dumbledore has a mysterious ring with an interesting crest and that’s enough to have Voldemort attack Hogwarts with all his might.
It may not seem like a good idea, but if you think about it it’s much better to have dark wizards try to take over a castle than over a cottage where a half-blood family lives. Plus, now they don’t have to sweep Britain looking for Nagini. They can see her perfectly well down in the grounds trying and failing to eat Hagrid.
The battle draws on and almost becomes a siege. The Ministry comes to help, only they help Voldemort’s side, what with being infiltrated and all.
It’s still preferable to the years of the war.
Sirius has been put under a careful and insistent treatment of “Sirius, no”, so he actually stops when he is told to, he doesn’t follow Pettigrew to a trap and he isn’t killed by Bellatrix. Well done, Sirius! Another advantage of Sirius surviving, beyond the fact that he survived, yay, is that he gets to save Snape when Voldemort decides he might not be a good double spy after all. Snape hates the idea of owing his life to Sirius. It is very entertaining.
Neville kills Bellatrix Lestrange. Luna kills Nagini (and feels bad for it, and cries, sweet Luna, may she always have a soft heart). Peter Pettigrew dies in a freak accident in which both the giant squid and the twins are involved. Cedric Diggory bullies seven Ministry wizards into switching sides.
Things are going good. There are many wounded, more than the last time, but no dead, not on their side.
Harry knows he will have to die, again. And it will have to be Voldemort. He can’t risk having anyone else cast the curse (would they even meant it?). They have changed so many things… They can’t be sure that all those changes won’t coalesce in this one instant in time. They can’t be sure that Harry will make it back.
But Harry still goes, because that’s what he has to do. He tries to make things as similar as possible, act the same way, say the same things. Maybe having Sirius and Moody and Tonks and Lupin alive and well and fighting won’t matter if Harry just follows the script on this.
But just in case it will matter, just in case Harry doesn’t come back this time, he throws some ad lib.
“Hey, Tom,” Harry says, holding his thumb between his index and middle finger. “I’ve got your nose.”
Well, at least he can be sure that Voldemort means it when he cast the curse.
The honour of killing Voldemort falls on Hagrid this time. It isn’t pretty.
And Harry comes back. Draco forgives him just for having said that line.

Chapter 3 - Welcome to Ilvermorny
Fic series: The Final Straw (HP/PJO Crossover)
Premise: The Welcome Feast causes a rocky start to the year.
Masterlist
Taglist: @ilvermornymascot, @lukecastellandeservedbetter

A/N: I feel it's important to mention that I wrote this at 2AM (lmao shocker) and accidentally called the dorms lodges because I pictured them as such. After consulting the group chat I always consult, it's staying that way because why not. And yes, I absolutely used combination knocks because of Wizards of Waverly Place (S4 E21 if you don't know what I'm talking about). Please let me know if you want to be on the taglist, and please comment as it helps keep me motivated! Hope you enjoy the chapter, it ended up being fun to write!
The room buzzed with excitement as the students watched the first years get sorted into their houses. Nova stood next to the Head Boy, Lucas Hoffman, and tried to seem interested in the sorting. The nerves she felt were hard to hide, with the threat of a Prophecy being revealed tonight. Rachel Dare had collapsed on the way up to the school with the rest of the transfers, and Nova couldn't help but notice a flicker of a green glow in her eyes.
She could only hope that nothing would happen while the mortal girl waited with her friends to be sorted into a house like everyone else. The last thing that was needed was to provoke a group of demigods with quick access to their weapons and already felt suspicious of the place. “You okay?"
"What?" Nova looked up at her friend. "Oh yeah, just tired and hungry."
"Are you sure that's it?"
"Lucas, I'm fine," Nova insisted. The Head Boy opened his mouth to speak but ultimately let it go, knowing how stubborn his friend could be. They turned back to watch the sorting, and Nova cheered with the rest of her house whenever someone got sorted into Pukwudgie. Still, she didn't seem to have her heart in the sorting like she did every year.
When the ceremony ended, the student body moved into The Great Hall. Nova relaxed a bit entering the familiar surroundings and smiled. The staff table was at the very end of the hall and faced the door that led into the room. A bear lectern was placed in front of the Headmasters seat, which sat in the middle of the long table.
Unlike Hogwarts, Ilvermorny had over one hundred circular tables for the students, and students from every house were free to sit together. The American Wizarding school prided itself on their inclusivity, part of that being the inter-house relationships.
The Hall was decorated with Indigenous artwork, representing the founders of the school. Paintings on the walls told the story of Ilvermorny, and how it was founded. The ceiling was reflective of the night sky. Thousands of candles were floating in mid-air, lighting up the room. Ilvermorny had brought some of Hogwarts' famous features to The Great Hall as a way to help the European students feel more at home.
Ghosts floated around and interacted with the students, startling the demigods that were already distracted by the interior. When the witch took a seat next to Cree, she couldn't help but notice a particularly familiar face within the ghosts. Peeves the Poltergeist had decided to tag along, likely eager to terrorize a new group of students. Harry Potter, who was at the same table, followed her eye line and looked even more displeased than she felt. "Blimey, I thought he was joking."
"I'm sorry, what?"
"To our new students, welcome," Headmaster Tahamente greeted everyone. "And to our upper years welcome back. We have much to discuss this evening, but for now please enjoy the feast."
Food appeared at the table, and students immediately began piling their plates. Ron Weasley was one of the first to dig in, stuffing his face with shepherd's pie. Hermione scoffed at her friend's lack of proper etiquette. "Honestly Ronald, do you have any manners?"
"What? I'm hungry," he said between mouthfuls. Nova laughed as Harry rolled his eyes at Hermione chastising Ron.
"Um... can I help you?" Harry asked, uncomfortable. Nova followed his eye line to Cree, who was staring at The Chosen One in disbelief.
"You're Harry Potter," his jaw dropped. "As in the Harry Potter."
"Cree, we talked about this."
"Can you blame me?"
"I'm sorry, Harry," she sighed. "I requested my friend here do the exact opposite of that. Cree is clearly a big fan of yours."
"It's nice to meet you, Cree." he smiled. Harry hated attention because of his fame, but he was kind nonetheless. That was something Nova liked about her friend and made a mental note to talk to Cree about dialling down the fanboy attitude after tonight.
All the boy could do was stare open-mouthed, still starstruck. "Potter has a whole fan club here, too?"
"Malfoy, are you really failing to consider the fact that our friend here is world famous?" Nova sassed. She had only known Draco during her transfer year at Hogwarts during the Triwizard Tournament and was still skeptical of the Slytherin. Despite choosing to go against Voldemort during the war, he was going to have to put in a lot of effort to gain the trust of everyone he had bullied these past few years.
"I don't need-"
"Hey," Harry put a hand on Malfoy's shoulder. "You said you wanted our forgiveness. That means not lashing out."
Draco relaxed at Harry's touch and went back to his food while he tried to hide the blush forming on his face. The meal consisted of Cree overwhelming Harry with questions, and Nova constantly apologizing for her friends' behaviour. It went on until after dessert when the Headmaster approached the lectern once again. A hush fell over the crowd as he began to speak.
"I hope that was a satisfying meal," he smiled at everyone. "First, a few housekeeping rules. Students must not leave their lodges after ten pm on weekdays, and midnight on weekends. Students under year five are not to leave campus on weekends. The forest is off-limits, as the Party Ponies do not take kindly to unwelcome visitors-"
"Party Ponies?" Ron whispered.
"I'll explain later," Nova responded.
"Finally, if you haven't already," Professor Tahamente continued. "Please come see me, or your Head of House to state your pronouns and preferred name."
Nova glanced around, watching all the confused expressions from the Hogwarts students. She remembered when she first learned what pronouns meant, and hoped the European wizards complied without issue. "As you all know, we are joined this year by students from Hogwarts, and Demigods from Camp Half-Blood-"
Whispers filled the halls, many of which speculated why Demigods were at the school.
"Settle down," Tahamente gently commanded. "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry has found itself in need of repairs that may take the whole year. Headmistress McGonagall has asked me and President Olivier to host her students while their school is under construction. As for the Demigods, we feel that the divide between us needs come to an end. Chiron and Mr. D have gladly set up a program in hopes of creating a bond certain to help in the future."
"Mr. D can’t even be bothered to remember our names," Nova overheard Percy's comment. She made eye contact with him as she stifled a laugh, and the boy smirked at her and winked.
"Finally, we have new additions to our staff," the Headmaster turned slightly, gesturing to the staff table. Tahamente began with Chiron and Mr. D, then introduced the professors that had joined the staff for the demigod program, as well as the new Gamekeeper. "Now that introduction is out of the way, we will end the night-"
The headmaster's speech was interrupted when a girl with fiery red hair stood up abruptly. Rachel's eyes glowed bright green, and a mist the same colour poured out of her mouth as she made her way to the front of the Hall. The wizards looked terrified, and most of the demigods were annoyed.
"Demigod and wizard come together,
Find the bridge and break the tether.
The heroes combined,
Shall face the unkind.
In order to preserve their days,
They must find the one in which betrays."
"Are you fucking kidding me?" Percy shouted angrily.
The son of Poseidon stormed out of The Great Hall, and Annabeth stood up to follow. Nova rushed to the demigoddess and stopped her before she continued on. "Take Percy to the lodges. A Pukwudgie will be able to guide you there if you ask politely."
"Thank you," Annabeth rushed to catch up with her best friend, and Nova went to help Rachel for the second time that day.
"Are you alright, dear?" Nurse Hawkins helped Rachel to her feet.
"Yes, thank you," she responded tiredly.
"She's in my house, I'll get her to the dorms immediately," Nova put an arm around the mortal to support her. After some protest, the Nurse allowed Nova to take Rachel to the dorms. All she needed was a small amount of Wiggenweld potion. She led Rachel out of the Great Hall, trying to ignore the stares and whispers as she passed. The girls didn't speak until they got to the entrance of the Pukwudgie building, passing Annabeth and Percy as they sat at the campfire the school had set up for the Demigods.
"Our lodge has a small infirmary, we'll stop there first." Nova led them to the infirmary and helped Rachel onto a bed. The Head Girl went into the cabinets to find Wiggenweld, then poured a small amount into a Dixie Cup, and handed it to the Priestess. "It's just a basic healing potion, it won't harm you."
Rachel took the cup and hesitated before downing the liquid. She winced at the taste but looked a lot better instantly. Since Python took over the Oracle of Delphi, readjusting to the oracle's magic was taxing on Rachel. Nova couldn't imagine what it was like and felt for the mortal girl.
When they left the infirmary, Nova brought Rachel over to the group of new students that had just arrived with the sixth year prefects and began the trek up eight flights of stairs to get to her new room.
The room was easy to find, it is the first door in the corridor on her left. The Head Girl was about to open the door with her new combination knock when she noticed the name plaque under her own. She was sharing her room with Payton Wills, a Gryffindor that she didn’t get along with at Hogwarts.

Hermione forced herself to leave the blanket fort she and Viktor had created around five p.m. to reach Ginny in the Common Room. Together they entered Angelina and Alicia's room, which the two girls had worked to transform into what seemed to be the backstage of a fashion show: they had joined the beds, creating a queen size where they had already carefully laid out their clothes, one a purple velvet dress with a sweetheart neckline and the other a shiny black suit from which a lace shirt with a collar full of ruffles would appear, making sure to leave enough space for those of her friends. The two bedside tables had become two make-up and hair stations thanks to the brilliant idea of putting two large mirrors on it, while the wardrobe had been left open, thus allowing the girls to also have two full-surface mirrors to contemplate the final result.
"Let's start with the important things!" exclaimed Angelina, extracting from her trunk the Muggle camera Hermione gave her for her birthday. "Let's take a picture of the before and one of the after, what do you say?" and as soon as they were finished, they immediately started to smear themselves with vanilla cream, kindly offered by Ginny, that made their skin smooth and velvety, then they moved on to the nails, filing and polishing them. Alicia lost a lot of time removing her cuticles while Angelina, who would wear silver stiletto heel sandals, put on a neutral enamel shade on her toenails. Hermione was stunned by how long it took to be at her best, as the note Mrs. Weasley had attached to the dress she had sent to her daughter said. It was obvious that it wasn’t new but Hermione just couldn't imagine who it belonged to; it was hard to imagine that the same woman who made those horrible wool sweaters had the ability to make something so delicate, so she guessed she had just bought it used. They helped each other to style their hair but it was evident that the more skilled was Angelina: she explained how her mother had taught her to braid since she was a child and how much fun her family's formal events were as all women sported increasingly complicated hairstyles. When the moment of makeup arrived, Hermione decided not to overdo: she wasn't used to putting on make-up and she didn't even know how to do it well, so she just put some concealer here and there where it seemed that her skin was duller and giving a slight coat of mascara only on the upper lashes. She was pleased with the result and also liked Ginny’s, who had opted for a beautiful light pink lipstick that matched well with red hair. Careful not to smudge anything and with each other’s help they put on their clothes:  Hermione’s perfectly drew her straight shoulders staying tight till the waist and then opening up in a floor-length skirt that made her feel like a princess. Finally, they put on their shoes and Hermione regretted a bit her decision to choose heels: although they were low, Alicia would certainly have been more at ease with her highly polished pointed flats.
"You're beautiful ..." Ginny whispered, almost breathless, to Angelina and she couldn't blame her. She and Fred would steal the show from the champions, she was sure, but she didn't mind. They got a little late and Hermione could barely talk to Viktor before Professor McGonagall called them. She greeted Harry and Parvati and tried to ignore her unflattering look, exactly like those of Viktor's fan club, Pansy Parkinson and Malfoy, although the thing that hurt her the most was Ron's indifference. Once everyone had settled in the Great Hall, Professor McGonagall ordered to the champions and their companions to line up in pairs and follow her. They obeyed, and everyone in the room applauded as they made their entrance and advanced towards a large round table from the other end of the Hall, where the judges had taken their seats. Hermione felt tense about the idea of having dinner with Igor Karkaroff, renowned for her aversion to the Muggleborns, but tried not to think about it, enjoying the walls covered with sparkling silver frost and the hundreds of garlands made of ivy and mistletoe that they crossed through the black starlit ceiling. She wondered if Viktor knew of the Muggle custom of kissing under the mistletoe and found herself no longer so afraid of reaching that kind of intimacy with him, perhaps even wishing he tried to do it that night. She realized only when they were almost arrived that Houses’ tables had disappeared and in their place there were a hundred of them, obviously smaller, able to accommodate a dozen people, all lit by lanterns. As they took their places Hermione tried not to stumble and smiled, just like Viktor did, although it was evident that his attitude was also a construct; probably they would’ve been able to enjoy the evening only after the first mandatory dance, when they would no longer be in the spotlight, with everyone's eyes on them. Finally Ron had dropped the façade and although he was looking at her with eyes reduced to slits, ignoring the poor girl who had gone with him, at least he had a reaction since he hadn't spoken to her since Viktor had invited her. Dumbledore smiled at her cheerfully, while Karkaroff wore an expression very similar to Ron's as he watched her and Viktor mutter softly. Ludo Bagman, who for the occasion wore a purple robe lit with large yellow stars, clapped his hands enthusiastically but his attentions were all turned to Harry, like those of Madame Maxime, who had abandoned the usual black satin uniform replacing it with a dress with a wide lavender silk skirt, were all for her pupil. Suddenly, Hermione noticed Mr. Crouch’s absence and that his place was occupied instead by Percy Weasley, who had recently been promoted to his personal assistant, according to Ginny, and never stopped bragging about it, which he evidently started to do immediately also with Harry, who had taken a seat next to him. Together with Viktor they studied the menus that offered three appetizers, six main dishes, three side dishes and three dessert  to satisfy all the guests. As soon as Dumbledore ordered, asking for pork chops to his plate, everyone else did the same. Hermione felt particularly observed but tried to ignore it while ordering the escargot à la Bourguignonne and, once she reached the half of the plate she exchanged them for Viktor's Kyopolou, a dish that made him start to talk about Durmstrang.
"In short, Viktor" said Karkaroff, “you’re telling to your charming friend how to find us.”
Dumbledore smiled, a twinkle in his eyes, and replied in Hermione's place, saving her from the embarrassing conversation and allowing her to enjoy the mutton soup in peace, though she could hardly bear Fleur’s voice, who criticized Hogwarts' decorations with her date.
"Little things," he said briskly, looking at the glittering walls. "At Beauxbatons we have ice sculptures all around the dining room. They don’t melt, of course, they are like big diamond statues that shine. And the food is simply superb."
Hermione tried to refrain herself from replying that if instead of ordering the omlettes, something in England was eaten for breakfast, she had taken the meatballs she would understand what it meant to really eat. When all the food was consumed, Dumbledore stood up and asked the students to imitate him. Then, with a flick of the wand, the tables shot away and spread along the walls, leaving the floor uncluttered, where, along the right wall, an elevated platform appeared with a complete drum set, several guitars, a lute , a cello and some bagpipes. The Weird Sisters climbed onto the stage greeted by enthusiastic applause; they were all exceptionally shaggy and dressed in long black dresses that had been carefully torn. They took the instruments and Hermione, who was so busy looking at them that she had almost forgot what was about to happen, suddenly realized that the lanterns on all the other tables had gone.
"Are you ready?" Viktor asked Hermione, as if they had an alternative. If she had pulled back right now she would’ve made a fool of herself and Professor McGonagall would’ve never forgiven her and she would’ve done anything not to disappoint the woman. Besides, she didn't want to run away anymore: everyone had to see that she and Viktor were happy and incredibly absorbed in each other.
"Absolutely.”

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Chapter 7: The Slug Club
“Harry spent a lot of the last week of the holidays pondering the meaning of Malfoy’s behaviour in Knockturn Alley. What disturbed him most was the satisfied look on Malfoy’s face as he had left the shop. Nothing that made Malfoy look that happy could be good news. To his slight annoyance, however, neither Ron nor Hermione seemed quite as curious about Malfoy’s activities as he was; or at least, they seemed to get bored of discussing it after a few days.” – And thus started Harry’s obsession with Draco Malfoy. And thus started me shipping Harry and Draco. Like obviously this pairing existed well before book 6, but up until then I never found Draco to be an interesting character and I also didn’t think there was a lot of shipping material in the first place. But here we have Harry stalking Draco for almost a year, and I mean the fan fiction almost starts writing itself. And furthermore Draco becomes a much more complex and interesting character. His final dialogue with Dumbledore is the reason I will always have a soft spot for him.
Nevertheless while reading this book for the first time I was pretty much with Ron and Hermione here, entirely unconvinced that Draco could be a Death Eater, for the very same reasoning they had: he is only sixteen. Then again I think Regulus Black was only 16 as well. And while it seems okay that Harry and his friends fought off Death Eaters by the age of 15 and he is now with 16 taking private lessons with Dumbledore, whose purpose is to prepare him for war, nobody believes Voldemort could recruit someone as young as Harry. They are in the middle of a war and we see these characters involved in it that we still consider to be children, but that is the point: they are no longer children. They lost their innocence.
I wrote a lot about Harry’s behaviour in book 5, that while his anger was justified it was not okay to let said anger out on his friends, and that a lot of times he acted like an ass, but also how these scenes work in contrast to the later books. A lot of people act like idiots when they are 15. In book 5 Harry had to share a compartment with Luna, Neville and Ginny, and when Cho greeted him he had wished to be surrounded by cooler people. This year as well he shares a compartment with Neville and Luna. Ginny is not around (to Harry’s annoyance) because she has her own friends, so we can assume she found those friends in the last year, when she had opened up more, and Harry noticed her as a person for the first time. Romilda Vane offers Harry to sit with her and her friends, but Harry coldly replies that Luna and Neville are his friends, thank you very much. The entire scene would not have such a significance if it didn’t show us the change Harry went through, how he became more mature, how he realized who his real friends are and that there are more important things than popularity.
“Had Voldemort chosen Neville, it would be Neville sitting opposite Harry bearing the lightning-shaped scar and the weight of the prophecy … or would it? Would Neville’s mother have died to save him, as Lily had died for Harry? Surely she would … but what if she had been unable to stand between her son and Voldemort? Would there, then, have been no ‘Chosen One’ at all? An empty seat where Neville now sat and a scarless Harry who would have been kissed goodbye by his own mother, not Ron’s?” – That is not how prophecies work though, Harry. At least not in the Wizarding World. There would have always been a Chosen One, someone who would have been marked as equal by Voldemort, for the very same reason: a mother who dies for her child and gives it therefore protection and the means to defeat Voldemort. And perhaps Neville would have not defeated Voldemort, because the prophecy only says that only one of them can live, but never says who. We don’t know. Still, there would have always been a Chosen One. You can’t prevent a prophecy to come true; Voldemort tried and set it in motion instead.
“Every now and then students would hurtle out of their compartments to get a better look at him. The exception was Cho Chang, who darted into her compartment when she saw Harry coming. As Harry passed the window he saw her deep in determined conversation with her friend Marietta, who was wearing a very thick layer of makeup that did not entirely obscure the odd formation of pimples still etched across her face. Smirking slightly, Harry pushed on.” – I get it, Marietta put everyone in deep trouble, but still isn’t it time she got rid of those pimples? She can’t wear them forever. And I know Hermione is really good, but still someone at Hogwarts or St. Mungo’s should be qualified enough to make those pimples vanish.
The book makes it look like neither Harry or Neville know who Cormac McLaggen is, despite the fact that he is in the same house as them. We know Harry is Captain Oblivious but Neville as well?
“It was as Harry had suspected. Everyone here seemed to have been invited because they were connected to somebody well-known or influential – everyone except Ginny.” – Why though? Why would the Weasley family not be considered to be well-known? Arthur works at the Ministry at a high position, Percy works there as well and was junior assistant to the former Minister of Magic. Bill works at Gringotts, Charlie with dragons, the twins have a successful business. Also the Weasleys are one of the oldest pureblood-families and associated with Harry as well. Everyone in the Wizarding World seems to know them, so I think it would be odd that the only reason Ginny got invited for is her bat-bogey-hex.
“‘A lot of boys like her,’ said Pansy, watching Malfoy out of the corner of her eyes for his reaction. ‘Even you think she’s good-looking, don’t you, Blaise, and we all know how hard you are to please!’” – I think this is the first time Ginny is described as handsome, and it happens in the same book where Harry falls for her. She is also described to be popular among the boys of Hogwarts, which oddly enough kind of makes her price for Harry to win, as Ginny clearly could date anyone she wants. Don’t get me wrong, I love Ginny as a character and the development of her relationship with Harry. It is just annoying that the book has to mention how beautiful she is (from an objective point of view, not just Harry’s) and that a lot of boys are interested in her, even though it is his jealousy that makes Harry realizes he has a thing for Ginny.
Both Draco and Theodore Nott are not invited into the Slug Club, despite their fathers being close to Slughorn at their times in Hogwarts, because they are both revealed as Death Eaters. I wonder though how the Slug Club would have looked like in the previous year. Would Harry have gotten an invitation by Slughorn despite his reputation at the time? (He was still famous after all) It seems that Draco and Nott might have gotten one. Slughorn does judge people by their family. We know of course that Draco is a bully and by now a Death Eater, but Slughorn doesn’t. He doesn’t want to be associated with the Malfoy and Nott family, despite the fact that Draco and Theodore Nott are their own persons.

Slug Attacks and Mudbloods
Can also read on FF.net and A03
A wave of nausea swept over Ron Weasley and he woke with a start sitting bolt upright and covering his mouth with his hands. Not another slug attack! He had already had one all over that award for special services to the school when he was in Detention. He wasn't going to spew slugs all over his bed.
Swinging his legs out of bed and knocking Scabbers the Rat onto the floor, Ron got up and tiptoed his way across the Dormitory and towards the door whilst trying to ignore the uncomfortable writhing in his stomach. He opened it carefully and made his way down to the common room, intending to throw up out of the window. But before he could reach the window, he heard a voice.
"Ron?" It was Hermione. She was sitting in an armchair by the window and she was looking at him with concern.
"Slug attack," Ron chocked out and Hermione immediately got up and dashed to the window and opened it where Ron stuck his head out, vomiting out the rest of the slugs.
He was dimly aware of Hermione patting his back in a comforting manner and he felt a small ripple of gratitude that he had someone with him who was supportive.
"The best thing to do is just let them all out," Hermione said soothingly.
"At least they'll be nowhere near Hagrid's Pumpkins," Ron gasped and Hermione let out a little giggle.
Once Ron had finished getting rid of all the slugs, he pulled his head back in, wiping his mouth on the sleeve of his pyjamas to get rid of the slime. But it didn't get rid of the disgusting taste in his mouth.
"Here," Hermione said, taking a small vial out of her dressing gown pocket. "Drink this. It should get rid of the nausea."
Ron took the vial and examined it. It seemed to have some potion with a greenish tinge to it. He uncorked the vial and downed it all in one gulp. It had a minty taste to it and it settled his stomach instantly and he no longer felt the writhing sensation in his stomach.
"This stuff's great," Ron sighed gratefully, sitting in an armchair opposite Hermione’s. "I can already feel the difference."
"It's a simple anti-nausea potion," Hermione said, resuming her seat. "I also added in an extra sprig of mint for you because I don't imagine that throwing up slugs would be the most pleasant of tastes."
"It tastes great. Blimey, you really are amazing at Potions, Hermione," Ron said weakly causing Hermione to smile at him.
"How was your Detention?" She asked softly. "You smell of polish by the way."
"It was a nightmare," Ron groaned. "Filch made me polish everything in the Trophy Room, by hand. My muscles are aching and my hands seized up and to make matters worse, I had another slug attack on a special award for services to the school and it took me ages to shift the slime."
"That's a difficult curse to work the best of times," Hermione said gently. "You didn't have to use it on Malfoy. Even if he called me that word."
Ron looked at Hermione and noticed for the first time that her eyes were red and puffy. It looked like she had been crying.
"Is that why you're down here?" He asked. "Are you going to let Malfoy get to you?"
"Not get to me," Hermione said slowly. "I just can't stop thinking about it. How Muggle-Borns are looked down on by people like Malfoy"
"I'm not letting that git call you- that word," Ron said, a wave of fury washing over him. How dare Malfoy call his friend something as offensive as that?
"Mudblood?" Hermione said. "It's a funny name, isn't it?"
"It's a disgraceful thing to call someone," Ron said fiercely, resisting the urge to swear. "Just because you're Muggle Born doesn't mean you're different. You know more spells than Crabbe, Goyle and the rest of the Slytherin's combined and most of them are Pure-Bloods."
"But it's not worth cursing anyone though," Hermione said reasonably. "Hagrid was right; If your wand wasn't broken, you would've been in some serious trouble."
"It would be worth it though," Ron said. "He only said it because you touched a nerve when you told him that he bought his way onto the Slytherin Quidditch Team and you were dead right; Fred and George worked hard to get on the team, and so did Charlie. The only thing Malfoy did was to get Daddy to buy the team new brooms. But forget wands. The next time he calls you that word, I'll just punch him on the nose."
Hermione cracked a small smile and Ron swore he heard her giggle.
"You'll just get into even more trouble," She said, rolling her eyes.
"It'll be worth it though," Ron said. "No one messes with my friends."
Hermione's eyes grew even brighter and Ron was surprised as to how brown they were. They were like orbs of chocolate, but the thought of chocolate was enough to make him hungry. He didn't have a lot to eat at dinner, as he didn't want to risk a slug attack at the Gryffindor Table.
"Thank you, Ron," Hermione said, breaking Ron out of his thoughts about food. Ron tore his eyes away from Hermione's only to see that she was wiping her eyes.
"Y-you're welcome," Ron said uncertainly. He had no idea what to do when Hermione got all emotional. He supposed he could make her a cup of tea, but that wasn't practical at the moment.
"For all my life, I've always felt that I was different," Hermione said thickly, sounding like she had suddenly developed a cold. "I was always the odd one out at Muggle School. My classmates were more into Netball than into books and using your brain was something to be laughed about. But then I got my Hogwarts Letter and found out why I was so different and I hoped to meet people who were exactly like me, only to find that there are people like Malfoy who look down on my kind, just because our parents are Muggles."
"There's always going to be prats like Malfoy who think they're better than everyone else," Ron said, hoping his words were enough to cheer Hermione up. "Don't you think on it for one minute, Hermione. Because you're worth a hundred of Malfoy."
"Thanks, Ron," Hermione said again, giving him a small smile. "You're a great wizard."
Ron was completely taken aback and his jaw dropped open in shock. Him? A great wizard? Hermione was off her rocker.
"Come off it," He said gruffly, his ears turning red. "Harry's the great wizard. But me? I've got hand-me-down robes, a broken wand and I can't even curse the git who called my friend a M-that word."
"There are more important things than books and cleverness," Hermione said calmly. "I told Harry that last year; There's friendship and bravery, and also loyalty and kindness. Thanks for listening, Ron, and thanks for defending me. It means a lot to me."
"Any-any time," Ron said, feeling taken aback. Hermione smiled at him and patted him on the arm and Ron felt as if he were ten feet taller.
"I think Harry must've been cracking up," Ron said, grinning slightly. "When he was having Detention with Lockhart, he said that he heard a voice coming through the wall, but Lockhart couldn't hear it."
"A voice?" Hermione frowned, looking curious. "A voice that Professor Lockhart couldn't hear?"
"That's what he said," Ron said. "It sounded terrible as well. Harry said it wanted to kill something."
"Could it have been a ghost?" Hermione asked, her frown getting deeper. "Or Peeves. Peeves can make himself invisible."
"Peeves was with us," Ron said. "Filch had to chase him out of one of the Trophy cases and I don't think that there's a Ghost that sounds as terrible as that although the Bloody Baron does sort of come close."
"And Harry said Professor Lockhart couldn't hear the voice?" Hermione pressed.
"I wondered if Lockhart did this as some sort of joke," Ron muttered. "Besides, if someone was invisible, they'd have to open the door."
"Or they could've got in before Harry arrived," Hermione said, looking deep in thought.
"They would've still had to have opened the door though," Ron said. "And don't forget Lockhart was in his Office waiting for Harry and as thick as he is, even he would notice if the door opened on its own accord."
"Professor Lockhart isn't thick, Ron," Hermione said reproachfully. "Look at all the stuff he's done."
"Oh, come off it, Hermione," Ron snorted, rolling his eyes and wondering what she sees in that flash git. "He couldn't even keep Cornish Pixies under control and my ear's still sore after being bitten by that Pixie. I bet that must've been torture for Harry, having to help Lockhart with his fan mail. Poor bloke's getting a bad deal of it lately. First Lockhart, then Colin Creevey. You wait until they find Ginny, she'll set up the Harry Potter Fan club in no time."
"Speaking of your Sister," Hermione said slowly. "I saw her in the common room this evening and she looked rather peaky. Have you spoken to her lately?"
"Yeah," Ron said, frowning. "She spoke to me yesterday. Maybe she's just coming down with a cold. I'll talk to Percy and see if he could get her to take some Pepperup Potion. She always listens to him."
Hermione nodded and both of them lapsed into a comfortable silence, each of them deep in thought. Who did that voice belong to? Why could Harry only hear the voice? Was that voice connected with the reason why Ron and Harry couldn't get on the Train the other week? Ron had the feeling that this year was going to be as complicated as the last.
Ron suddenly yawned and covered his mouth with the back of his hand.
"It's late," Hermione said, looking up. "We'd better get to bed."
"Yeah," Ron said reluctantly. He had quite enjoyed spending time with Hermione and he was pleased that he could cheer her up.
"Thanks for the encouraging words, Ron," Hermione said, smiling at him and patting him on the arm.
"No problem," Ron said. "And thanks for the anti-nausea potion and for being there when I was puking slugs out of the window. I'm so exhausted now, so I could do with the rest."
"Good night, Ron," Hermione smiled, making her way towards the girls' dormitories.
"Night, Hermione," Ron said, watching her go up the spiral staircase and out of sight.
Ron turned and made his way back up to the boys' dormitories full of Harry and Neville's snores, his mind still going over the mystery of who the voice that Harry had heard belonged to. Why did Harry hear that voice? Ron found it quite odd that Harry was the only one to have heard the voice. Although Lockhart didn't strike Ron as the sharpest tool in the shed. He had no idea what Hermione saw in him. Hermione.
He didn't know what he did to have someone as brilliant as Hermione Granger in his life. The thought of anyone calling her a Mudblood was enough to make his blood boil. Never mind what Hermione said; the next time Malfoy calls her a Mudblood, he would punch him on the nose.
He got into bed, his stomach not feeling as nauseous as it once did and shifted Scabbers off his pillow and lay his head down, trying to calm himself.
He would love to see Malfoy get his comeuppance at the Quidditch match. Even though he had a faster broom, he knew that Harry would be able to get to the Snitch before Malfoy. What a sight his face would be when he loses.
With comforting thoughts of Malfoy losing at Quidditch, Ron slowly drifted off into a deep sleep.
