I really do love artists who are capable of doing very cinematic-like artwork that focuses heavily on character emotions and facial expressions, often slowly between panels. Two examples which perfectly encapsulates this style of visual storytelling IMO are John Cassaday from Astonishing X-Men & Minkyu Jung from Magnificent Ms. Marvel:

Art Piece 2: Narcissus and Rasputin

This piece of art came from the conclusion of my first art study where I was inspired by artists Hirohiko Araki and Piotr Jabłoński to do a character styled like Araki’s work but rendered in Pitor’s dark matte shadows present in his Destiny conceptual art. With that piece, I was quite pleased with the outcome, and realising that I had already lost such a tyrannical amount of time, I went straight onto the next piece in that style, choosing it for my project instead of going further, as I was by doing a piece to Ming Doyle for my second study, but I was already so strapped for time. While I think it’s quite sad that I couldn't pay homage to her in a piece that was going to be inspired by her husband's song Spiral of Ants, I was going to slightly reference it by painting the characters in a deep red and blue, however this didn't quite turn out as planned, so I instead left the white colouring to save on time.

This piece took up considerable time in my project, and sadly I think it has been a let-down. While I put my all into the piece, trying to develop my skill by making the characters poses and bases by myself, only referencing clothing and an old image, I think that it has come back in a negative sense. I tried to add more depth by making some pieces of their bodies appear in the foreground, enlarging them and making them stand out, hopefully making the piece feel my dynamic, alas, I see that it looks quite uncanny, especially the human character, (Narcissus,) whose right hand looks abnormally long, what could have worked if the arm was more outstretched but due to its slack nature, it looks goofy.

Thankfully, I do like the rendering I did on the piece, a complaint with my previous work was that I doused it too much in shadow, leaving barely any detail in his torso or legs, so in this piece, I actively made it much lighter, leaving to a more detailed image, with some areas being bleached in shadow with only the light source leaving highlights, this was to make the piece less samey sue to there being much less darkness, as seen in his boots and hair.

I, again, made the characters a simple and rushed Tarot inspired card for the actual game based segment of my proposed game, I, again, Believe this was less successful than my last piece, mostly due to wanting to incorporate both characters in the piece, due to them being far longer than the last piece’s character’s head, that had to appear smaller on my proposed stock tarot card, taking far less space horizontally, making them seem quite squished even when they aren't taking half the card.

I tried to further innovate on this piece, especially on the background, using a more unique star shape for the pattern and using perspective warp to make it seem to flatten out into a floor, like a tarp thrown over a wall. I like how this came out, as it gives the character a floor to stand on what doesn’t need to be rendered as hard as the last pieces that IO left out due to time. I also, on the card design, slightly tilted the stars, giving a more dynamic look to the card than before. I also tried my hand at better clothing, adding areas of tension and shagginess, what actually came out quite nice, even if some of them might not be humanly possible.

Altogether, I can't say that I'm disappointed with the outcome, as I believe it is still held to a high quality that I expect in my work, however, I would be lying if I said I thought it was better than the last piece, even by incorporating more characters, trying more detail and trying to further my skills, it just looks far less interesting with far more errors. Things that could have led to this is lack of highlighting on normal materials due to the softer light, the use of blank white instead of a sun bleached variant and a lack of a secondary colour to show complexity and change in skin and clothing durability and / or thickness.

To improve, I could try to add more fragments from the previous piece into my next projects that were excluded here for time purposes. I could also try more interesting posing, which these characters have less of, just standing looking straight on, whereas the previous piece was more interestingly posed on their side.

Piotr and Kurt are both quite similar personalitywise but some thing do vary. Piotr is shy and prefers to not be the center of attention or have any attention directed toward him in any way. While Kurt is happy-go-lucky and makes friends with everyone. Both Piotr and Kurt are very sweet and caring individuals. They're both optimistic and forgiving people.

Kurt would be more open about his advances towards you than his more modest counterpart. Piotr would be much more quiet and discreet about his advances.

Piotr would probably even put his affection and interest into you aside for Kurt to be with you, that's just the kind of person Piotr is. He would hold some sort of guilt if he'd "taken" you from Kurt, even though neither of them were with you prior so you're technically free game.

Kurt would probably catch on to the both of them both vying for your attention first. And he would be very playful about it. Making fun little comments and jabs directed to Piotr.

I don't think either of them would be hostile or terrible toward each other (unlike if they were yandere). I think they'd keep it pretty respectable. I also don't see them fighting much, if at all.

Kurt's probably the one who would mention a poly relationship but that's up to you. Piotr would blush at the mere thought of it and Kurt would tease him about endlessly.

Overall they're very respectful towards each other and the other's respective crush on you. They wouldn't really get in each other's way or anything like sabotaging the other. It's more of a "best man wins" sort of thing. But I wouldn't doubt that Piotr would drop out of this figurative "fight" for your attention and or love. In the end it's down to you for who you want to be with.

The Vision and the Scarlet Witch and Swordsman and Mantis (Giant Sized Avengers #4, selected by Emma) : Everyone’s faviorite synthoid and witchy and kinda sorta mutant have a wedding fit for two loveable misfits: nearly getting killed by Dread Dormammu, getting married alongside a space goddess and the tree husband homncluus version of her dead boyfriend by a space-time wizard guy who fucks with Wanda’s head later because shut up. If that sounds confusing how do you think I feel having to make sense of it all if it gets picked hmmm?

Doc Ock and Aunt May (Amazing Spider-Man 130 and 131, selected by kev): It’s a tale as old as time: Boy Meets girl, boy keeps girl at his crime mansion , then plans to marry girl to get her atomic island but has to fight her Spider-Powered and a hammer headed dick tracey villian if he wants to get her to the church on time... the church he built in his crime mansion. 

Gambit and Rogue (X-Men Gold #30 and Mr and Mrs X #1): What happens when your big russian friend gets stood up by your slightly younger friend whose age is a constant question mark because comic books are a nightmare timeline wise? Simple you steal the wedding for yourself! After decades of ups and downs from Gambit being left for dead after being revealed to have oopsy daisy helped with a masss murder, to Rogue’s mom posing as a teen to try to seduce him, to Rogue choosing Magneto over him and everything in between, one of the x-men’s big power couples finally reunites and ties the knot. 

Mr Fantastic and the Invisible Woman (Fantastic Four Annual #4, selected by Tyler): The first major wedding of the marvel universe begins both one of it’s happiest and longest lasting relationships.. and the tradition of these weddings getting really weird and chaotic REALLY quick as Dr. Doom causes every costumed jackass in the marvel unvierse at the time to swarm on the happy couple as every superhero in the marvel universe at the time teams up to stop them. 

Titania and The Absorbing Man (Avengers Unplugged #4): Even criminals can have a nice, calm respectful wedding as long time She Hulk and regular Hulk sparring partners Titania and Absorbing Man finally say I do.. or at least try too as some misunderstandings lead to the avengers crashing this happy day. Will our couple end up together forever or apart behind bars?

Superhero Wedding Poll: The Winners

Hello all you happy people. I’m Jake, I review stuff and for the last week i’ve done a poll to decide which superhero wedding you fine folks wanted to see. And with just hours to go and no one coming in i’m calling it. And the winner is....

A Tie! Despite pleas to, despite promoting it the final battle between Doc Ock’s nuptials to Aunt May and Gambit and Rogue stopping a terrible creative decision with a tremendous one ended in a tie.

While I could break the tie a variety of ways, i’ve respectfully chosen not to.  None of the ways I could, doing another poll, flipping a coin, choosing myself felt right: the former would likely deadlock again as most of you ONLY voted for our two winners, a coin feels anticlimactic as hell, and the last one feels wrong: I already voted, and I want the winner, or in this case winners, to be emblematic of what the people as a whole wanted. If I just wanted to pick one of these.. I would’ve. I left it in your capable hands because I WANTED you to pick. Not only that it meant whichever one I didn’t would just likely win next year.. and rather than have the vote be that predictable nor waste all the OTHER possible super weddings, i’d rather just pick both, and let a new batch have a go next year.  Granted in the future i’m open to settling polls with a tie.. just not ones that arre so obviously a two choice race. 

So yeah i’ll be doing both. So in two weeks your all cordially invited to the wedding of Otto Octavius and May Parker.. that is if her web slinging nephew and Otto’s rival in his mob war Hammerhead, a sentence that will never not baffle me, don’t crash the festivities. 

Then in three for the sweetest day of the year itself, your all once again cordially invited this time for the wedding of Pitor Rasputin and Kate Pri... wait she what? She really did? For THAT flimsy a reason? Oh god. Well what do we do now we have every mutant who was alive at the time here and a non refundable ice cream cake.. oh.. oh Gambit’s taking the wedding for himself. okay then.  Yes i’ts a tale as old as time as one couple’s disastrous near wedding becomes another’s greatest second chance as everyone’s faviorite cajun thief and southren bell power house tie the knot! 

So yes two reviews! And rest assured i’ll be doing this again next year, so feel free to shoot me suggestions and what you’d like to see then and i’ll see ya real soon!

You seem to like very passionate characters if that makes sense? Characters that have a lot of emotion (whether or not it's expressed, it's still obvious) and/or interest in one particular thing. Also longer/disheveled hair and on the creative side!
