Exercising Fic Recs 12
Not a lot of fic recs this week, mainly because I decided to read some long fics and both are batfam. The first one was recommended in the Superbat discord server I’m in, and is a series. Basically, it’s a “Bruce goes to therapy” fic. He had a bad flashback to Jason dying, and Steph yells at him to get some therapy. I really enjoyed the series! I love it when Bruce gets his act together so he can be a good dad :)
The second fic I just started, and it’s a mer AU. I love how each of the bat kids are different kinds of sea creature, and that Bruce is also ace (I’m not biased at all, no siree)

This week was a fun week for me. I had Friday off for the holidays, but I decided to turn my three day weekend into a five day weekend by taking Thursday and the following Monday off. ALSO, my birthday was this week too. So, you know, celebrate!!! I was especially excited to learn that International Asexual Awareness day was on the same day as my birthday too. I figure it’s a sign from God that I was always meant to be ace 💜🖤🤍
I also reached an exercise goal of hitting 10,000 or more steps this week. Hooray!!
Now, for the pictures:)
My coffee and pastry picture, as usual. Instead of going to the coffee shop on Sunday, I went on Thursday instead to start my long weekend off right. Also, I’m pretty sure they were closed Sunday for the holiday.
This is another one of my favorites spots at the arboretum. I love how it keeps getting more and more green each week 💚
A neat-o log.
There is a prairie in the back of the arboretum that you can explore. This is my first time going back there. I can’t wait to explore more!
I got both a female and male goldfinch to come to my feeder. I like to think they are on a romantic date 💕🥰💞
The arboretum also had a bird walk this weekend! I got to see so many neat birds! Here is a male and female purple finch.
And here is a red shouldered hawk. We also saw so many other birds too! I just wasn’t able to take pictures of them. I did get good looks at them with my binoculars though! The guide we had was really nice too! He gave me a lot of resources after the walk for getting more into birding. Ngl, I’m really excited to get more into this hobby.
As a birthday gift to myself, I FINALLY got a nice camera to take pictures of birds!!
Look at these pictures! They are so much nicer than my phone! I’m crying 😭
There maaaaaaay be more pictures posted tomorrow. Since I have Monday off, AND I got my new camera, I’m definitely going to the arboretum again. For the third time. (I just really like it there, don’t judge me).

Album Review: Todd Rundgren - The Individualist, A True Star Live
Sometimes, a Todd Rundgren fan don’t know what to feel.
On the one hand, The Individualist, A True Star Live, is an accurate representation of Rundgren’s 2019 retrospective tour, on which he played songs spanning 1968’s “Open My Eyes” by the Nazz through 2000’s solo track “Buffalo Grass.” The setlist roughly mirrored the time period covered in “The Individualist,” the memoir the artist formerly known as TR-i had released that year.
On the other, the live album skips the often-hilarious Q&A sessions that opened the second set. And the tracks chosen for this document of the tour find Rundgren in often-rough voice. It’s not just the effects of time - which are unavoidable - it just seems tape wasn’t rolling on the nights Rundgren was at his best on the mic.
Yet, with support from former Utopia bassist Kasim Sulton - whose voice seems not to change - Rundgren pulls off an exquisite version of the a cappella “Honest Work.”
And the band, Sulton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes, guitarist Jesse Gress, former Tubes drummer Prairie Prince and sax man Bobby Strickland, are adept at everything - from the balladry of “It Wouldn’t Have Made Any Difference” to the progressive stance of “The Death of Rock and Roll” to the trip-hop of “The Individualist” to the guitar-based thrust of “Black Maria” that makes Rundgren, Rundgren.
The Individualist, A True Star was a tour for the fans - with bones like “Hello it’s Me,” “We Gotta Get You a Woman” and “Can We Still be Friends” tossed in for radio listeners. But, owing mostly to Rundgren’s voice, the resultant album is not necessarily recommended for causal listeners outside the concert hall.
Studio albums would be better bets.
