Longmont
Landscape applique quilt of Longs Peak in Colorado
Designed and stitched by me
Inspired by a photo taken by Gerardo Brucker
All of the stitching on here is free motion quilting, the textures added by moving the quilt under the sewing machine needle by hand. (My shoulders were so tired!)
A baby gift for my cousin, who lives in that area! To be used as a floor mat for a few months, and then hung in the nursery as decoration.

you go to the woods on Saturday because there is nothing else to do here, you find echos of peoples past in a stream: nails, porcelain, remnants of a well. you feel a presence, but it doesn't make you fearful, you start to think of it as a friend
there's a local legend of witches that lurk along the old state highway, your friend told you she saw something there last night but she refuses to tell you what. she doesn't take that way home anymore.
summer evenings are strangely silent. not a bird nor a car makes a sound, there's only you and the oppressive heat.
your uncle spent a night camped out by the old train tracks to see if they are really haunted, now he refuses to be alone at night in those woods
the abandoned church falls further into disrepair: the paint peels, both sides lean so it resembles a pentagon more than a church, but you swear you can see movement inside
if you stand at a specific spot in the park and angle yourself just right, you can see a dilapidated house halfway up the mountain. there's no road to get there and no one else has any memory of it, are you imagining it?
it's spring. you take photos of a field of daisies next to the train tracks. a homeless man froze to death there last winter, no one will find his body for another two weeks

to ponder: Why would a culture take an already venerated wild species of animal and breed it towards a specific ideal, yet leave the species - for the most part- in a semi-feral state?
like the White Hart in many European myths, but instead of just waiting for one to appear every so often, the culture took steps towards making a population of leucistic/albino deer. Why? A purposeful display of power? An unintended side effect that was readily adopted into a power display?
There's a connection between white harts and the otherworld in some celtic myths. That feels important to this theoretical discussion. but for now, back to Improbable Destinies

Hey Kat! I was wondering, what is your favorite Star Wars’ planet and why?
Hmm. I think it's a tie between three.
Firstly Naboo, because it's just so weird and also pretty and I love the idea of it having a core made of water and the parallels of a culture that looks totally normal on the surface, but if you dig down at all it's pure horror all the way down.
Then...probably Dathomir, for the sheer aesthetic of it - all the red skies and Grave Thorn forests with bodies hanging from them, and humid swamps full of monsters, rocky mountains with man-eating spiders, witches riding barely-tame rancors, etc.
Lastly, legends!Tatooine, though this one is more for the potential than for what canon actually gives us. The idea of Tatooine as a dead jungle world, and all the possible ways to use that to make it more interesting and layered, are fascinating, and I have A Lot of thoughts about how Tatooine is basically a ghost in and of itself.

1999/lmk sun wukong x reader
𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬 ! tbh this can be read as both 1999 or lmk OR literally anything else since this is taking place during the jttw !! SORRY FOR LONG ABSENCE </3
Tumblr media
- you were a witch that was ordered to aid the pilgrim named Tripitaka on his quest to find the ancient scriptures
- you didn’t really know he’d have company though, even with your powers you could’ve never predicted that he’d be travelling with a monkey, a pig, and a sea wizard (not to mention their dragon horse)
- at first it was pretty rocky considering that when you revealed yourself to the group, the monkey (who was conveniently named monkey) attacked you with no hesitation
- in battle, you tried to show him the letter you received from the goddess Guan Yin, but it fell on deaf ears and he continued his attacks while calling you a liar
- he stopped as soon as the monk ordered for him to halt, with a bit of encouragement from the headband of course 😋
- you both floated down to your master
- you bowed and introduced yourself as y/n, and the group introduced themselves to you too
- pigsy took a liking to you (obviously)
- monkey did not
- sandy was neutral
- tripitaka was just glad he had another semi-sane individual in his group
- and so, you and your new companions continued with your journey to the west
- ANYWAY that brings you to where you are now 🗣️🗣️
the journey
♡ wukong didnt trust you much, even after a few months of traveling together
♡ he would allow you to do the same things he and his fellow companions did of course, but he would never let you stay and watch his master alone
♡ you did notice, but you didnt care, babysitting the monk wasnt exactly something you were dying to do as much as you respected him
♡ he did appreciate you for your skills, though
♡ Tripitaka managed to get kidnapped 4 times a week instead of 9 with you around 🥳
♡ for that, he warmed up to you
♡ just a smidge tho💔💔
♡ during the whole white bone demon/crimson witch saga; you defended monkey from the accusations of him killing a not so innocent young women
♡ you didnt feel as if he had a reason to lie, and even if you definitely werent his favourite person of the group, you still didnt want him to get punished for something that he did to protect his friends
♡ didnt work tho LMFAOO 😩
♡ he was soon banished from the group and went back to his home in flower fruit mountain in a sour mood
♡ you kinda felt bad but you kinda liked it like lmfaoo deserved 💔💔
♡ after the young monk got in trouble again, it was up to you to find monkey and get him to help you again
♡ you still don’t know why the hell pigsy made you do it, you just assumed he was being lazy and just wanted you to do all the heavy lifting
♡ you’d bully him later for compensation
♡ but for now your goal was to find monkey which was surprisingly easy considering his island was supposed to be incredibly difficult to find
♡ your task was easy, go to the island, get wukong, and come back
♡ it wasn’t easy 💯
♡ you ended up getting ambushed by a bunch of monkeys which you couldn’t take seriously since they were just so cute!
♡ they beat your ass
♡ they brought you to a stone throne with your ex-companion sitting on top of it, a dismissive look on his face and his head leaning on his hand
♡ they pushed you on your knees as the monkey king began to speak
♡ “state your name and your business here”
♡ “oh be quiet, unless you hit your head i expect you to remember me, it’s been like 2 days you dramatic ape”
♡ immediately you regret insulting him as his subjects hold you tighter and audibly chitter and gasp at your words
♡ you grunt “fine, i’m here to take you back to Tripitaka, he’s… in a tight spot” you look up at him to see his expression
♡ “why should i help him? he threw me away without a second thought!”
♡ you groaned, he had the right to be angry but you just wanted to get this over with, so you negotiated with him for a while
♡ a very long while
♡ he sighed, “fine” he got up from his throne “monkey subjects! your king is going on an important mission, you’ll have to do without me for a while” he said dramatically
♡ you playfully rolled his eyes as you watched him comfort the female monkeys, them clearly not wanting him to leave so soon
♡ after like 20 minutes you got bored, you took his hand and led him to your master, you were surprised he let you hold him for so long, he normally shoves pigsy off whenever he flings his arms around him after battle
♡ the rest of your friends rejoiced when they saw a certain monkey flying behind you, hand in hand
♡ pigsy had questions about why the two of you came back with hands intertwined and his mind immediately went straight into the gutter, and naturally, he got jealous
♡ he refused to talk to monkey for a week because of his assumption 😞

🧛‍♂️ VAMPIRE! STRAY KIDS SERIES
Chris // Changbin // Jisung // Hyunjin // Seungmin // Minho // Felix
Tumblr media
Strange and unusual as it was considered by everyone in your village, for you, working as an archaeologist was only a source of pride; despite most people still thought that “it wasn’t a woman’s ideal job”, you simply settled for ignoring their unrequested comments and kept going to work with a smile on your face.
Knowledge was dangerous in your time, especially if a woman knew too much; luckily, you’ve never paid too much attention to them and slowly grow accustomed at people addressing you as a witch.
“Until they decide to burn me,” you constantly thought, “let them believe I’m getting informations by mysterious spirits and not from books.”
For more than two weeks you have been assigned to a small team, your days busy with trying to find signs of an ancient population. The excavation site was on top of a lonely hill which stood at a rocky mountain’s feet; apparently, a huge column had showed up out of nowhere, laying to the ground used and corroded by natural events.
Rationality prevented you from thinking that such a large column had come out of nowhere and therefore, you ended up spending most of your days at the excavation site, not bothering whether you were alone or if there was someone else with you; working by yourself was probably what you preferred, since you didn’t have to waste your time doing small talk with your colleagues.
It was early in the morning, and the birds were chirping all around you, keeping you company as you were busy cleaning a part of the large column with a soft brush; you were determined to find anything useful and therefore, you refused to give up on your research, although you still haven’t found anything.
Quietly humming a song to yourself, you didn’t realized about the fact that you’ve pressed the bush against the stone column a little harsher than needed, not until you heard a soft and unfamiliar clicking noise coming from the mountain’s wall.
It was incredibly weird, almost as if a lock had been unlocked, but where could it be? You were completely surrounded by nature, it was impossible for a lock – or a door, to be there.
Nervously biting on the wooden end of the brush, you kept curiously glancing around yourself, when suddenly, part of the mountain began to move. Your expression was a mixture between horror and utter shock as you watched a circular part of the rocky wall big enough to resemble a door, shift and fall to the ground as if it was being absorbed, completely disappearing.
An insane amount of dust was released due to the sudden movement of the door, but still you could see a faint light coming from the other side; despite the fact that you were terrified, your curiosity and your desire for adventure were slowly creeping into your mind. You stood there, motionless, pondering whether you should try to get inside it or not, when the door somehow seemed to decide in your place; it didn’t remain open for more than few minutes, and as soon as you saw the rocky wall slowly erupting from the ground in order to close that mysterious passage again, you acted before thinking, quickly running towards the now closing door and jumping over it.
As the wall completely closed behind you, you realized that you didn’t have a way out, if not moving forward; you decided to place your hand on the wall as you slowly stepped towards the faint light you were seeing at the end of the corridor, hoping not to find any dangerous situations, since your only weapon was the brush you were using at the excavation site.
Strange and intricate drawings met your fingers, and you noticed that they were elegantly written on the walls; you were incredibly curious, where did that door lead you to?
Quickly enough, you reached the end of the corridor, and you abruptly stopped in your tracks: the corridor led you to a wide rocky chamber, where a boy was sitting on the floor while leaning against a wall, presumably asleep. The first thing you noticed was the neat bright red circle written around him on the floor and you furrowed your brows, assuming for the first time in your life that it was something related to witchcraft.
“Where did I end up?” you thought, instinctively walking towards the sleeping boy with slow and cautious steps; his hair was light blonde and a bit long, his bangs delicately falling on his delicate features; his face was sprinkled with freckles, almost resembling as he had a galaxy printed on his face, making him look some sort of angelic.
Even if you felt bad for waking him up, you honestly needed to know more about where you were and how could you go back home. Carefully, you stepped over the circle without noticing that your boot smeared part of it; as soon as you kneeled next to the sleeping boy, his eyes fluttered open, and you held back a surprised gasp as soon as bright crimson eyes met yours. The boy gave you the brightest and most gentle smile you’ve ever seen, before tugging at your wrist and making you lean on his chest; your hand came in contact with his velvet jacket as you tried to push yourself up, noticing that he wasn’t try to hold you against him in any way.
«Finally, my bride came to set me free!» he said excitedly, and you were sure your eyes almost popped out of their socket.
«Your what?!» you shrieked, abruptly yanking your hand from his grasp, ignoring his sad expression at your rough gesture, and you sat on your heels, putting a bit of distance between the two of you.
«My bride,» he repeated with a pout, refusing to meet your gaze, «the demon that trapped me with this,» he added as his left index pointed to the circle on the ground, «said that only my bride would have managed to set me free!»
Pressing your fingers on your temples, you refrained from laughing in his face, since he was probably out of his mind.
«Listen, I’m not your “bride”, I simply stepped inside the circle,» you tried to clarify, «and now I want to go back home.» The boy – Felix, carefully listened to you as you explained that you had walked inside the door at the end of the corridor, and gently furrowed his brows in an apologetic expression.
«You can’t go back,» he shrugged, carefully standing up and stretching his limbs as he had been sleeping for years, «that door opens… Well, honestly, no one knows when.» Felix gently offered you his hand, and as you instinctively took it, he helped you to stand up; despite his hands were cold, his touch was extremely gentle.
«What am I going to do, then?» you mumbled weakly, more to yourself than to him, trying to do your best at hiding your panicked state; you weren’t doing a good job, since Felix awkwardly patted your head with a frown in the attempt to console you.
«Listen… I can ask to a friend, he’s a witch, but you’ll have to stay with me all the time, since it’s dangerous for humans to stay by themselves in our world.» Felix said, and your eyes went wide.
«He’s a what?!» you shrieked, «quit talking like you’re not a human being!» much to your surprise, Felix chuckled at your words, as if you weren’t noticing something obvious; you were so determined to find a rational explanation to everything that actually, you still didn’t realize that you’ve never met anyone with bright red eyes, and as soon as Felix slightly opened his mouth to show you a pair of sharp fangs, you swore you felt as if you were going to faint.
Tumblr media
A month later, you still had troubles believing where you managed to end up; apparently, a whole parallel world was existing along yours, the two dimensions divided by a stone wall that randomly opened every now and then, allowing anyone to trespass.
Felix had insisted for you to live with him, and despite the fact that you had been reluctant at the beginning, he was the only person you knew and the fact that he offered to help you was both risky and comforting. Truth be told, when you discovered Felix was a vampire you didn’t sleep for the first three nights, afraid that he would sneak into your room and drink your blood until you were dead, but he never did.
However, anytime Felix was hungry, he’d simply say that he was going for a hunt and that «there’s plenty of food, don’t wait for me.», and you eventually ended up having your meals by yourself.
Felix also absolutely prevented you from going out by yourself, saying that there were too many dangerous creatures ready to take advantages on humans – since human trespassers were rare; you listened to him, but anytime Felix had showed you around the village, you couldn’t help but to want to see more.
Various and different creatures – some looking less human than others, were living together and in apparent harmony; you were forced to admit to the rational part of yourself that such a thing could not be explained, and that therefore, the supernatural really existed.
As you strolled the village, Felix always refused to let go of your hand, saying something along the lines of «my scent covers yours», a thing which you didn’t understand but didn’t really want to question, either. Inevitably, you found it easy to trust Felix, which was attentively looking at your naive astonishment with an amused face.
«Look at him!» you had whispered to Felix once, tugging his hand to claim his full attention, «he’s like a walking jaguar!» you exclaimed, your head tilted towards the tall blacksmith focused on his work; Felix laughed whole heartedly at your comment, thing that make you immediately blush for unknown reasons.
«He’s not a jaguar, he’s a Fadus.» he explained gently, as if he was suddenly talking to a child; you tilted your head, as if to ask what was the difference when he obviously resembled a really tall wild animal standing on his feet, «Fadus are like leopards, but they’re way more clever, and their skin is blue.» satisfied, you hummed to yourself.
«Another thing,» Felix exclaimed, bringing a finger to his lips and slightly leaning towards you, as if he was about to tell you a fundamental information, «don’t tell them they look like jaguars, Fadus are awesome, but they’re incredibly… sensitive about these things.» you immediately nodded, and eventually you ended up asking Felix about things that didn’t exist in your world; Felix was always more than eager to explain you everything you wanted to know, and slowly this had become your new routine.
Honestly, you found it impossible not to trust Felix, and you inevitably started to get along, quickly becoming friends; contrarily to your world, he had explained that no one had any kind of prejudices against women, and therefore, many of them held very important social and political positions.
“Sounds like the place for me,” you ended up thinking sometimes, wondering about the feeling of openly speaking about your interest without being looked down; actually, you already were having glimpses of how it would be like.
Felix was a vampire, and therefore, thanks to his age he knew a lot of things you didn’t; the two of you spent endless nights talking about your interests and the difference between your worlds – from the biggest ones to the faintest details, and you couldn’t help but finding yourself getting a little more attached to Felix each passing day.
Not only Felix was witty, caring, playful and sarcastic, he was also incredibly handsome; there was something in the way his nose scrunched when he laughed, baring his fangs and his eyes disappearing behind two tiny crescent moons that made the butterflies in your stomach do somersaults.
Felix was also a man of word; he had keep his promise, asking to his friend to find out more informations about the portal. Sadly, despite a month had passed, there weren’t any news and apparently, there wasn’t any way to predict it.
Tumblr media
Felix was on a hunt, and you took advantage to take a hot shower; autumn had just started and therefore, the sensation of hot water on your skin was more than enough to relax you.
A white towel was safely wrapped around your body, reaching around mid-thigh, and you were about to brush your wet hair when you started hearing weird noises coming from your living room.
«Gosh,» you heard someone say, «it reeks of human in here.» you furrowed your brows, tightening the towel around your chest before walking through the living room with quick steps; you were decided to confront the intruder by grabbing the most dangerous looking object you could see in Felix’s living room but you didn’t expect for the intruder to look so hot: honey coloured skin, dark red eyes and black hair, something in his appearance was incredibly alluring. He was wearing a heavy black coat that reached his ankles, leather pants were detailed with leather strings that travelled on the mid of his thighs, leaving part of his skin exposed.
The stranger seemed to sense your presence, as he immediately turned his head on his left, meeting your gaze.
«Oh, now that’s interesting,» he mumbled more to himself, taking a step forward, «Is Lixie home?»
“Lixie?” you thought, remembering that only his closest friends called him like that; you slightly relaxed, realizing that you probably were not in danger anymore, despite the fact that he looked quite intimidating.
«No,» you admitted, «he should come back soon.» even thought the boy was standing on the opposite side of the living room, something in the air shifted; his eyes seemed more glimmering, and you started to feel warmer. It was as if you were feeling a strange sensation of pleasure flooding on your body and instinctively, you pressed yourself against the wall as he took a small step closer.
«Changbin,» Felix’s stern voice suddenly spoke, and you relaxed as you saw him appearing out of thin air, «keep your incubus tricks to yourself.»
«I wasn’t doing anything harmful!» the stranger – Changbin, groaned, «you guys don’t even let me play nowadays.» he pouted, and you saw his shoulders lowering in defeat as he quickly walked towards the small circular wooden table in the living room.
«I’m sure Hyunjin would let you have plenty of fun.» Felix chuckled, even if he kept standing in front of you.
«My husband isn’t food.» Changbin pouted, before placing a small velvet box on the table, «Here’s what you asked for. Make sure she never takes it off.» with that, Changbin vanished in thin air right after saying goodbye to both of you.
It took you few seconds to realize that you were still clutching the towel around your body as if your life depended on it; eventually, Felix slowly turning around and walking in front of you made you snap back from your thoughts.
«Are you okay?» somehow, Felix’s voice came out a little bit raspier, and you didn’t fail to notice his gaze flickering from your eyes, to your lips, and along the part of your slightly exposed chest; you nodded in a silent answer, confused about the fact that the strange feeling you felt when Changbin was in the room didn’t go away.
Felix lifted his hands and placed them against the wall, caging you between his arms; you felt your cheeks heaten as you felt your heart picking up pace and instinctively, you licked your lips, noticing that Felix attentively followed the gesture. You felt trapped, and you could feel the heat emitting from his body; it would be a lie to hide the fact that you fantasized about kissing him more than once, and the fact that he was so close to you and seemed so serious was enough to make you struggle to keep your breath even.
«Did he do anything stupid?» Felix asked again, imperceptibly inching closer to you; his breath was fanning your lips, and you desired nothing more to feel his lips moving against yours.
«He didn’t.» you mumbled, afraid that if you spoke any louder, the atmosphere would have been ruined.
«Good.» Felix mumbled back, as if he was desperately trying to say something to keep the conversation going and not wanting to move away.
«I… Should go get dressed.» you tried, hoping that he would disagree.
«Yeah,» Felix licked his lips, unmoving, «you should.» your hands were itching with the desire to kiss him, but you held back; you closed your fist around the towel, ignoring how you knuckles went white, and eventually, Felix moved. You strode towards your bedroom, closing the door behind your shoulders and placing your back against it. What just happened?
Eventually, you decided to walk out the comfort zone provided by your room just to see Felix peacefully reading on the couch in the living room; you could swear that a blush was dancing on his cheeks as soon as he saw you, but eventually, he got up and walked towards the small wooden table, pointing to the velvet box that Changbin had placed there.
A small necklace was hanging from a silver chair; it looked harmless and not too particular, you noticed.
«Thanks to a magic spell, this will hide the fact that you’re a human,» Felix said as soon as he noticed your confused expression; «you can go around by yourself every now and then. Just… never take it off.» Felix nervously scratched the back of his head, and you felt incredibly happy.
«Thank you.» you smiled, and without thinking too much, you reached out to hug Felix, which immediately tensed up; lost in your bliss to finally having the possibility to visit more of this world, it took you a while to realize what you had done, but before you could pull away, Felix’s arms hesitantly circled your waist, before mumbling a weak and embarrassed «you’re welcome.»
Tumblr media
Turns out, the enchanted necklace was not a good idea. During a chill and sunny afternoon, you spent your time wandering through the village, keeping close enough to your house in case you felt insecure and wanted to go back when suddenly, a piece of cloth tightly pressed on your nose and your mouth startled you, and instinctively you inhaled; your throat started burning, and your head started spinning. You felt someone roughly grabbing your waist, probably preventing you from falling before you started feeling too weak to call for help. You didn’t know what kind of substance you inhaled, but you didn’t faint, instead, fear and panic creeped through your senses as you saw that you were being dragged through narrow and less walked alleyways.
«I’m curious, is Felix that eager to play with his food?» much to you dismay, you found out that your capturer was an incubus; the boy stood taller than you, and he had pressed you against the wall while tightly keeping a hand around your throat. You wanted to scream, to claw at his face, but you couldn’t move.
Despite the fact that he was an incubus just like Changbin, the aura they were emitting were totally different. Changbin emitted a pleasant aura, and when he used his influence on you you felt warmer and slightly in bliss; this incubus was using his aura to make you feel afraid. He touched your chin to lift your head, and as his cold hand touched your skin you felt nothing but disgust and repulsion; you started feeling numb, since he was probably already taking away part of you energies.
Even if you forced yourself to stay awake, you eventually lost consciousness, with the faint hope that Felix would eventually find you.
What you definitely didn’t expect was to wake up in your own bed; you tried to sit up with a pained groan, but petrified as soon as you felt your throat burning in a painful way.
“So, it was real,” you thought, but before you could try to voice your own thoughts, Felix walked through the door, sitting on the bed and looking at you with apologetic eyes.
«Please,» you felt your own voice shake with fear, «Tell me that nothing happened.» Felix give you a sad smile, understanding what you were implying and eventually, he shook his head.
«I found you as soon as you lost consciousness.» he spoke, and you felt relief wash over you. Immediately, you shifted, throwing yourself at Felix and hugging him like your life depended on it.
«I’m sorry,» you said, on the verge of crying but somehow holding it in, «I never took the necklace off, I don’t know what happened. I’m sorry.» you kept repeating like a mantra, despite the fact that Felix was gently rubbing your back while repeating that it wasn’t your fault.
«He had been following you for a while, I should have been more careful,» Felix admitted, claiming the blame of what had happened. It was strange, how both of you tried to place the blame on yourself but even if – after what happened, you were dreading any form of human contact, you didn’t want to part from Felix’s embrace.
«Come on,» Felix said during breakfast, turning his chair towards you, «lean in.» you wondered what exactly he had in mind, since it’s been two days and you unconsciously yanked yourself away as soon as he tried to touch you.
Hesitantly you did as he asked, and placing one hand on the edge of the table and the other on your knee, you leaned in; Felix moved hesitantly, but eventually placed his forehead against yours.
«I know you’re still shocked, but I want to console you somehow,» Felix said with a smile, his red eyes burning into yours from up close, «I can’t hug you, so this will do.»
Felix’s features were mesmerising, and you felt your cheeks heating up due to the sudden proximity; since the night when you were about to kiss, you’ve never been this close.
Honestly, you don’t know what came over you, but you found yourself leaning in and capturing Felix’s lips in a brief kiss, a simple and gentle peck; however, as you were about to part, Felix’s hand prevented you from moving away by gripping on your nape, pulling you to him in order to finally properly kiss you. Felix’s kisses were hesitant and gentle, and  anytime the two of you parted to breathe, he always waited for you to start the contact in a silent way to respect your pace after what had happened to you.
What he didn’t know, was that you felt incredibly safe with him and therefore, you never wanted to part from him; slowly, that night, you trusted Felix enough to give yourself to him completely, finding the missing part of your soul as your bodies gently moved together on his bed.
Tumblr media
«Hyunjin told me that the portal will open tonight,» Felix’s voice broke the peaceful quietness in the house as he stormed in through the front door, «I came back to tell you.»
«Oh.» despite the whirlwind of thoughts in your head, it was everything you could bring yourself to say; you politely thanked him, before eventually, going back in your room.
Honestly, you didn’t want to spend your last day silently weeping on your bed; at first, you wanted to create a lot of good memories to look back to once you finally got back to your world, but now, you found the idea of leaving honestly painful.
Things between you and Felix remained unspoken and unsettled, and you didn’t know where the two of you were standing; you couldn’t deny anymore the fact that you were in love with him, but what about him?
Felix had always made you feel loved with the way he acted or talked to you, but did he return your feelings? Was it okay for you to wish to stay with him?
Evening came before you realized, and you and Felix stood in the chamber where you met for the first time few months earlier; he didn’t let go of your hand not even for a second, as the two of you walked to the narrow corridor you’ve once walked by yourself. Felix could hear your quick heartbeat, and mistook it for your desire an anticipation to go back home when honestly, you didn’t.
«Then, goodbye.» Felix said after taking a deep breath, gently kissing your forehead.
«Bye…» you nodded to yourself; you wanted to tell him a lot of things, but the familiar click prevented you from talking.
The wall shifted slowly, and you could see a glimpse of your world and the excavation site you’ve been working on for weeks; you took a small step towards the door, but eventually, stopped. Leaving things unspoken and unsettled was probably the most coward thing you could do before leaving because despite everything, not only you loved this world more than your own, you also loved Felix. You wanted to give the two of you a possibility to be together.
With a gentle smile you kept to yourself, you stood motionless and eventually, you watched as the world you’ve once lived disappeared once again in front of your eyes; proudly, you turned around, smiling at Felix which was looking at you with a dumbfound expression.
«Oh!» you chanted, skipping towards him and snaking your arms around his waist, «looks like I missed it!» the smile on your lips was more than enough for Felix to understand that your decision would have always been the same: stay with him.
«I love you,» Felix said out of the blue, even thought he was originally planning to say something along the lines of “I thought I had lost you,” or “I was ready to jump into the next portal”; you smiled at him, relief washing over you as he spoke.
As Felix connected your lips in a gentle kiss, you knew you had made the right choice.

I love the forest. It's my favorite space to go relax and commune with the spirits of the world, and obviously, take some photos to share its beauty. But my favorite part of my little forest paradise is the creek running through, teaching me, and reminding me of all the lessons it has to share. Lessons of balance, the presence of its strength and speed, while still being calm and still. Lessons of water's persistence, the ability to make its path, to be where it wants/needs to be no matter what is thrown in its path. And finally, the understanding that although a creek is a "small body of water," it affects the world around it in such a large profound way; making sure the plant life around it is hydrated, helping fish move and breed, and giving a peaceful place for a little witch like me to find profound lessons from its life force.

Romanian witches: Baba Dochia
Originally I wanted to talk about only one "Romanian hag" from the world of fairytales, but from this one entity I ended up talking about Muma Padurii and Baba Cloantza and many more... Because there is never just one "baba" or one "muma" in Romania. There is a whole series of malevolent hags and magical old women which all embody in one way or another the benevolent, malevolent, or neutral aspects of the archetypal Romanian witch.
I will mention that Wikipedia lists the Muma Padurii/Baba Cloantza in her wicked form as one of the three recurring fairytale villains in Romanian fairytales, alongside the "balaur" (the "dragon", a winged multi-headed evil snake that comes in three variations 1) air-dragon that causes/lives in storms 2) earth-dragon living in chasms and pits and associated with gems 3) water-dragon, usually killed by the saint - see the legend of saint Georges) and the "Zmeu" (Zmei in plural, the Romanian variation of the Slavic creature of the same name, usually a giant sorcerer but which sometimes appear as a dragon)
But now I finally reach the witch I originally wanted to talk about. Baba Dochia. I learned at first about her when looking at an article which covered the Romanian translations of the brothers Grimm "Frau Holle", and this article evoked how in Romanian translations, often the legendary character of Frau Holle was replaced by a Romanian folkloric being: Baba Dochia (which the article did compare to the Baba Cloantza as an aspect of the "fairytale wicked witch"). With the bonus that the Baba Dochia is closely linked to the weather and to seasonal changes, which explains why she can fit the role of Frau Holle.
Here is what the article had to say about the Baba Dochia.
She is one of the many supernatural "babas" of Romanian legends (remember, "baba" simply means "old woman", the same way the German "Frau" means "lady" or "miss"). Baba Dochia ha, like Frau Holle a weather role - Baba Dochia is a manifestation of the cold weather and the winter season. Or, to be more precise, Baba Dochia is only a manifestation of the end of winter. The whole thing of Baba Dochia is that her "weather role" takes places during the beginning of March, a set of nine days that are typically called the "babele" (plural of Baba). This era marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring - a shift of seasons usually symbolized as a fight between two entities. Baba Dochia is supposed to wear nine "cojoace" (coats made of sheep's skin), representing how cold the weather is. During these nine days, when the weather is violent, unpredictable and constantly-shifting, Baba Dochia will remove each of her coats, one per day - and the more coats the take off, the hotter the air becomes and the more snow melts. In fairytales, this "seasonal battle" usually has the spring season symbolized by the "prince Charming" figure.
This is the case of a specific Romanian fairytale that is an equivalent of the Grimm's "The three little men in the woods". In this fairytale the Baba Dochia is a wicked stepmother that sends her martyrized stepdaughter to a frozen stream, to wash black wool until it becomes white. The stepdaughter encounters a beautiful young man named Martisor (I am not adding the accents here because my keyboard is not equiped for it) who embodies spring: not only does he help the girl, he also gives her flowers (we are in winter). When the stepdaughter returns she manages to get her accused of cheating on her husband (because after all you know, she accepted the flowers of a handsome stranger in the woods... It can look bad in an old countryside society) ; but these flowers will cause Dochia's downfall. She believes these flowers mean spring is here (when in fact it is still winter), as such she goes to the mountain with her sheep as she does every spring... but she just ends up frozen to death there, and all her sheep with her. This folktale is tied to the rocky landscape of several mountains - a type of mineral manifestation called "Babele" and which is supposed to be Baba Dochia and her sheep, petrified into stone.
Baba Dochia also appeared in the works of Mihail Sadoveanu, but this author decided to reinvent the character as a less wicked and more tragic character. In his own take on the story of Martisor, Dochia isn't the wickedness of a cruel season that needs to end ; but rather she suffers from the deep gap between the human world and the "otherworld". Otherworld that Baba Dochia represents: she is a witch-like old woman with obscure powers and a shadowy domain, living all alone in a little cabin at the top of the mountain, isolated from all civilization. One day, she adopts a young orphan girl and she raises her with love - but away from all other human presence. The young girl, who is a plain human unlike the otherwordly Baba Dochia, cannot resist her roots, and demands to be allowed to return into humans, in the light-filled world of the valley. Baba Dochia agrees to let her go there to see the humans - but in the valley, the girl falls in love with the titular Martisor and forgets to return to her adoptive mother. The old woman, alone and heartbroken, ends up freezing to death in the coldness of her little dark cabin.
This was all I could get from the article. To this I will add info from a little brief Internet research:
An alternate name of Baba Dochia in Bulgaria and Macedonia is Baba Marta, in reference to the spring celebrations of the first of March, Martenitsi, Bulgarian name of the Romanian Martisoare, from which the "prince" Martisor gets his name. Baba Dochia can also be found under this name in Moldavia on top of Romania. In English a translation is "Old Dokia".
A variation of the "babele" name described above: the fifteen first days of March can be called the "zilele babei" (the days of the old woman) (babei/baba refering to the old woman, the herb-healer and the female witch)
There are actually many versions of the fairytale I described above:
First version: Baba Dochia had a son, Dragobete in Romanian, Dragomir in Bulgarian, who married a young girl against his mother's will. Dochia abuses her daughter-in-law and at the end of February sends her to fetch berries in the woods. She is helped by an old man, who is actually God in disguise and produces the berries by a miracle. When Baba Dochia/Marta sees the berries, she believes spring is here, puts on twelve sheep-skins as coats and goes to the mountain with her son and sheep. But due to the rain her coats get soaked and heavy - so she removes them, but the frost suddenly arrives and freezes her to death, with her ship, and her son who was playing the flute.
Second variation: Pretty similar to the first, with a few details changed. There are only nine coats instead of twelve, and the Baba removes them due to the hot weather before the frost suddenly arrives. Her son doesn't go with her to the mountain. The girl isn't elped by God but by the Virgin Mary or a female saint. The girl is precisely asked to go fetch strawberries. And here the Baba and her sheep don't just freeze to death, they are petrified into the "babele" stones found in the mountains.
Third version: The baba sends her daughter-in-law to the river in winter to clean a very dirty coat until it gets white and shining, but the girl fails to do so and cries. A mysterious man arrives and gives her a snowdrop flower which makes the coat white by magic. When the girl returns with the white coat and the flower in her hair, baba Dochia believes spring is here - and she ends up like in the previous tales, frozen/petrified on the mountain.
Fourth version: Again, Dragobete marries a woman against his mother's will, so the baba Dochia abuses her, and notably sends her wash black wool in a stream until it becomes white (an impossible task). The baba specifically forbids her from returning until the wool is white, and since the girl can only freeze her hands in the cold water she cries about losing her husband (that she loves very much). Jesus then appears and offers her a red flower which makes the wool white. When the girl returns Baba Dochia believes springtime came since a man could pick up a flower - and you know the rest, she goes to the mountain with her nine coats, due to the weather she drops them one by one, and when she gets rid of the last everything suddenly turns cold and she freezes to death. (There's a fifth version which is just this story but with twelve coats instead of nine)
Outside of pure fairytales, if we go more into the folklore and myths, scholars debate the possible origins of the Baba Dochia/Baba Marta. Some believe she might be a character born of the old name of Dacia (Dakia in Latin and medieval Greek, close to "Dochia/Dokia"). Others believe she might have evolved from a Byzantine celebration Eudoxia/Eudokia's martyr on the 1st of March. A third theory is that she is the leftover of an ancient Thracian goddess common to the Romanian and Bulgarian territories, a deity of agriculture, fertility, renewal... But all in all the Baba Dochia/Marta was seen as a weather spirit with a quickly-changing mind and unstable temper, and as a result needed to be appeased with offerings. Only by these gifts will she make sure winter doesn't last too long and spring returns (while in fairytales it turned into the Dochia's death causing the triumph of spring). A folkloric ritual consists of leaving the offerings by fruit-trees or under rocks, and if they are left under rocks, people then look which kind of insect live or takes refuge there. Depending on whether it is a millipede, a spider, a cockroach or any other thing, it will form an omen about how the year to come will unfold, turning the Dochia offering into a divination ritual.
But as I said before, the baba Dochia was mostly seen as a negative entity - it was said she was a spirit of the bad weather who during the nine "babele" (the nine first days of March during which she removes her nine coats) brought snowstorms and cold winds. Another divination ritual had a woman pick up randomly one of the nine babele-days: if the day turns out to be good weather, they are promised to stay fair and nice in their old days ; if the day has bad weather, it means they will age into a bitter hag. There's a lot of proverbs and sayings tied to the weather and Dochia - which makes her similar to the German Frau Holle. Of course when people say "Baba Dochia removes one of her coats", it means the weather is very warm ; but when it snows people also say "Baba Dochia is shaking her coat".
The Baba Dochia also appears in a little story that is told all the way across Europe (I know this because just a few days ago I read a variation of it among fairytales of Bretagne). The story always goes the same: there is an arrogant or wicked old woman/shepherdess who for a reason or another mocks or threatens the month of March (here a sentient entity), who in revenge steals some days from February to come earlier punish the old lady. In Romanian this old lady is Baba Dochia.
There is also a very WEIRD pseudo-historical legend which tries to explain Baba Dochia as having been a person from the Antique history of the land... According to this tale, Dochia was related to the last Dacian king, Decebalus (she was his sister for some, his daughter for others). When the Roman emperor Trajan conquered the Dacians, Dochia fled into the Carpathian mountains because Trajan wanted to marry her. She disguised herself as a shepherd, and all her servants and followers disguised themselves as sheep. But Trajan kept pursuing her and sending his forces after her, so in despair she prayed to the Dacian god Zalmoxis, who turned her and her fake-sheep into the Babele stones we can still see today. Quite a strange story, heh?
There's also a Christianized, benevolent version of the Baba Dochia - because of course, Christianity is VERY strong in Romania and gets its hands onto every folkloric character it can (this is why in the Baba Dochia fairytales the Martisor-Prince Spring figure gets so often replaced by Jesus). In this sanitized, Christianized version, baba Dochia was a pious old woman whose prayers for winter to end brought spring... Quite a far move from the wicked stepmother.
As a last note: Baba Dochia's son, Dragobete, also plays a part in the "weather symbolism/calendar meaning" of the fairytale. Because while Martisor is the beginning of spring and Baba Dochia the end of winter, Dragobete is actually an old Romanian god of love (often called the Romanian Eros/Cupid) who is celebrated during the "Dragobetele" celebrations on the 14th of February... The Romanian Saint Valentine's day. Dragobete was called in old pagan traditions "he who bets on love" and "the godfather of animals", because he protected and blessed all couples upon his day - as such, you had a sort of human "Saint Valentine" celebration on his feast-day, but you also had an homage to what was believed to be the "engagement of birds". There's a whole set of traditions and legends surrounding this which I will not expand upon here, but it makes sense than that this spirit of the love-day of February is symbolized as the loving husband of the heroine and the son of the hag of the end of February...

Eastern Red Cedar (Essential Herbs for Witches)
*Notes from the Hekate ritual kits that were released October 23'.
Latin name: Juniperus virginiana
Planet: Sun, Saturn
Element: Fire
Parts used: foliage, wood, essential oil
Astrological Association: Leo
Energy: Masculine
Magical properties: Longevity, protection, preservation, strength, wisdom, perseverance, renewal, transformation, balance, connection to the divine through nature, return of stolen goods, defense.
Healing properties: Fever, cough, skin conditions, respiratory issues
Eastern Red Cedar is not actually a true cedar, it’s a juniper, as its latin name, Juniperus virginiana, indicates. Naturalized in Europe, Asia, and North America, Eastern Red Cedar is present in all temperate regions of the northern hemisphere and stretches into parts of the southern hemisphere. This hardy tree has deep roots and tolerates poor rocky soil, salt, heat, and wind, and is drought tolerant.
Medicinally juniper has been used in bathing, sometimes as a scourge, to alleviate rheumatoid arthritis and to relieve depression symptoms and exhaustion. It’s also been used to heal open wounds. Juniper is warming and pungent and affects the liver and kidneys. Its bitter action stimulates the gallbladder and liver and it aids in digestion. Juniper is also used for respiratory issues, urinary tract infections, and skin ailments like psoriasis and eczema. The warming effect of juniper makes it helpful in breaking fevers. Eastern red cedar is an abortifacient and should not be used by pregnant women.
Juniper berries have been used to flavor food, beer, and notably gin, and in Ireland the unripe berries are tinctured with whiskey and used as a general health tonic.
As for juniper’s use in folklore and witchcraft, around the Mediterranean and Aegean seas, it was planted to protect a home from evil spirits and malicious men. It was sometimes built into a new house as a structural beam or to fill cracks between stone to drive away illness and evil spirits. Branches were hung above doors to repel witches.
Because it is an evergreen, it’s also used in fertility rites and the berries are sometimes used as an aphrodisiac.
Shamans in Siberia burned and inhaled the smoke of juniper to induce trance, and because of its high thujone contain, it can indeed induce altered states. Thujone does build in the liver over time so care should be taken to limit smoke inhalation to occasional use.
Burning juniper as a smudge was common in Native American rituals for purification and to cleanse sacred ritual space. Cherokee natives believed that the wood of this cedar held the spirits of their ancestors. In other native ritual practices, it was believed that messages were sent to the Creator when it was burnt ceremonially.
In Scottish folk magic, juniper is used to ‘sain’ livestock and homes during Beltaine and Samhain. Saining is done by lighting bonfires and driving cattle between them.  These fires would be lit from sacred Neid fires and extinguished home fires would be relit with this fire.  People also hopped over these fires to rid themselves of negative spirits. Juniper (lubhar beinne) was used, and to a lesser extent, mountain ash or rowan (caorran).  The cattle byre was sained, and the lintel over the byre was anointed with wine or human urine. Homes were also sained with burning juniper and “in such quantities to fill the whole house with smoke.”  Juniper would have also hung at windows to ward off witches and evil spirits and to rid the house of pests and diseases.
According to Scottish folklore, juniper needed to be harvested in a particular way, like all magical plants.  It was pulled by the roots, taking 4 branches between 5 fingers while an incantation was repeated.  Today we should probably refrain from yanking bushes from the ground and taking a branch or some berries after asking permission should suffice.  The branches can be dried and burned or the berries can be burned on a charcoal disc, or dip the branch into sea salted water and sprinkle a bit on yourself and your magical working space.
While we generally think of juniper as a plant of the Sun, it does have older Saturnian associations perhaps because they are very long lived, but maybe also because of their often gnarled wood and spiky foliage, giving them a dark, ominous aspect. Like both yew and cypress trees, Easter red cedar is common in older cemeteries in the southern united states. This may be because its evergreen leaves have come to symbolize ‘eternal life’, but through the ancient Greeks, we have an association with juniper as a plant of Hekate, perhaps because she led the procession of the dead. Through Hekate, it is also associated with Medea, a Hekatean priestess.
I choose to substitute Eastern red cedar for the yews, cypress, and cedar we traditionally see aligned with Hekate because ERC happens to grow in abundance in my bioregion and has a long history of use in sacred rites across the world. Eastern red cedar is a plant of protection and is excellent for banishing, inspiring courage and strength, purification and release.

Ahsoka Episode 8 “The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord”: The Story, the Symbolism, and the Score Part Four
If you missed Part One of this analysis, it can be found here:
Part Two can be found here:
Part Three is here:
Epilogue I
The first epilogue begins as the Noti pack up their pods. The Noti seem happy to see Ahsoka and Sabine, who arrive at their camp on the howlers. Listen for Ahsoka’s theme played by a trumpet, and also listen for a fragmented version of Sabine’s theme during this scene. A wooden flute presents Ahsoka’s theme once more when Ahsoka’s convor owl, Morai, makes her brief cameo.
We hear themes for Shin, who ignites her saber near the red bandits’ encampment to signal her desire to join them, and for Baylan, who stands on a rocky promontory gazing at a distant mountain peak illuminated by a mysterious glow. We then see that the rocky outcropping he’s walking upon is the arm of a gigantic statue of the Father of the three gods of Mortis. In a long shot it is revealed that the Father is pointing toward a distant glowing mountain peak. Next to him is a giant statue of the Son, who represents the dark side of the Force. There is a crevasse where the statue of the Daughter once stood. She represents the light side of the Force, and her essence dwells within Ahsoka. Perhaps the Force has been out of balance since the Daughter saved Ahsoka’s life so many years before, and Ahsoka’s mission on this planet is to restore that balance.
Tumblr media
The enormous statues of the Mortis gods are yet another visual tribute to The Lord of the Rings. They are reminiscent of the Argonath, the awesome monuments to the kings of Gondor, Isildur and Anárion, which marked the kingdom’s northern border. The statues, whose left hands are raised in a gesture of warning to the kingdom’s enemies, stand guard on either side of the banks of the Anduin River.
Tumblr media
A piano plays a mysterious theme as Baylan gazes at the distant glowing mountain peak. This music continues as the Eye of Sion approaches Dathomir. The Chimaera arrives with its enormous cargo of coffin-like crates which may contain the bodies of long-dead Nightsisters awaiting resurrection. Thrawn’s theme is heard during this scene.
youtube
Epilogue II
The shuttle that once belonged to Baylan Skoll approaches Home One amidst the New Republic defense fleet. When it docks, Hera, Chopper, and several officers and soldiers assemble to greet or confront whoever is aboard. In the first scene of the first episode of Ahsoka, many members of the New Republic defense force were slaughtered by the former occupants of that shuttle. This time they are more cautious and have their weapons drawn, ready for an attack.
A man dressed in a zombie stormtrooper’s uniform exits the ship with his hands raised, showing that he is unarmed. Chopper chatters and rolls forward, and like Odysseus’s faithful dog Argos, Chopper recognizes the armored man before anyone else does. The man in the stormtrooper armor touches the droid’s head gently as the two recognize each other. Soft synthesizer music accompanies this scene. The man removes his helmet, revealing the face of Ezra Bridger. Some of the New Republic officers and soldiers lower their weapons, including Hera, who recognizes him.
“Ezra?”
“Hi, Hera,” he says. “I’m home.” Hera’s theme plays softly as he approaches her.
It is nighttime back at the Noti camp as Sabine helps them pack. She looks at Ahsoka who is staring at the night sky. A fragmented rendition of Sabine’s theme is heard as she walks toward her.
“You did well,” Ahsoka tells her. The closed captioning explains that emotional music accompanies this scene. Listen to the stringed basses playing Ahsoka’s theme under the dialogue here.
Ahsoka: “And thanks to you, Ezra got home.”
Sabine: “I hope.”
Ahsoka: “He did. Ezra is where he needs to be and so are we.”
Sabine smiles at the Noti and at Ahsoka.
Ahsoka: “It’s time to move on.”
Sadly, Sabine stares off into the distance.
Ahsoka: “What is it?”
There is a highly significant but brief, subtle musical reference to John Williams’ “Across the Stars,” the love theme for Anakin and Padme’ from Star Wars Episode II: The Attack of the Clones here, which is followed immediately by Sabine’s theme. (To hear the “Across the Stars” fragment, listen to the Ahsoka Soundtrack Vol. 2, Epilogue II from 2:34-2:39. I included the recording at the end of this blog post.)
youtube
Sabine: “I felt like…Nothing. Just shadows in the starlight.”
Did Sabine sense the presence of Anakin’s Force ghost? I think the brief musical quotation of “Across the Stars” may indicate that, but it is also foreshadowing Sabine’s romantic arc in this series. Anakin’s possessive desire for Padme’ and his inability to accept death as part of life ultimately led to his fall to the dark side. Sabine’s love for Ezra is about letting go of her obsession with him, which will hopefully lead to a healthy, fulfilling relationship between the two of them. I have been saying all along that these two are “star-crossed” would-be lovers. When Sabine and Ezra finally admit to how they feel about each other the relationship will feel as if it has been truly earned.
Tumblr media
My theory is that Ahsoka will find her ultimate destiny on Peridea, but Sabine will stay there, perhaps to learn how a Jedi can be in a romantic relationship without falling to the dark side the way Anakin did, and then she will return home to be with Ezra.
We hear Ahsoka’s theme as the episode concludes, and Anakin’s Force ghost appears onscreen. The music we hear is a new arrangement of “Where the Sun Sails and the Moon Walks,” an unused track from the season 2 finale of Rebels, written to accompany the main characters’ reaction to Ahsoka’s apparent “death” in her duel with Darth Vader, the tragedy of Kanan’s blindness, and Ezra’s temptation to open the Sith holocron and possibly turn to the dark side. The new arrangement of this beautiful music at the end of this episode may be a foreshadowing of Ahsoka’s “death” or an irreversible transformation into something greater, taking the Daughter’s place as the goddess of the Light Side of the Force.
youtube
The title of this unused track is yet another reference to J. R. R. Tolkien. This time, it is a quotation from The Hobbit:
“Farewell," they cried, "Wherever you fare till your eyries receive you at the journey's end!" That is the polite thing to say among eagles.
"May the wind under your wings bear you where the sun sails and the moon walks," answered Gandalf, who knew the correct reply.
I wrote about Ezra as the Sun and Sabine as the Moon in my analysis of Ahsoka Episode 6 “Far, Far Away.”
With regards to the title of that beautiful unused musical track, the Sun has indeed sailed (Ezra has crossed the void between galaxies to return home) and the Moon does indeed walk (Sabine is still with Ahsoka, walking or riding, as a nomad on the surface of Peridea). I think Sabine will eventually make it home, perhaps by means of a hidden path of secret gate. Could that be the World Between Worlds?
Tumblr media
The new orchestration of “Where the Sun Sails and the Moon Walks” replaces the beginning of the Ahsoka end credits music. It replaces both the Ronin theme and Sabine’s theme. The end credits music from the previous episodes resumes with the Purrgil theme, Ahsoka’s theme, and concludes with Hera’s theme.
youtube
I hope you all enjoyed going on this musical and mythological journey through the Ahsoka series with me. Please leave a comment and tell me what you think of my musings. Thank you for all of the positive feedback and encouragement you have given me along the way!
