Hey all! I hope you aren't feeling to much post-holiday drop in the wake of EGF and Baz's birthday. Remember you can keep the spirit of erotic groping alive in your hearts all the year round.

I've been working hard on chapter 9 of Basil Pitch's Diary, which feels like the part where the rubber meets the road emotionally. It's satisfying and I like it, and it's also hard going. I might have to slow down the already slow posting schedule, which chagrins me, but oh well.

Meanwhile here are some sentences from chapter 5, which is maybe my favorite chapter so far. I'm excited to share it with you guys on Saturday.

Baz, Dev and Niall are getting ready for a school dance:

Behind me, visible in the mirror where I was fixing my hair, Niall coaxed Dev’s tie into a neat batwing. “There, it’s—hey!” Dev, laughing, had pulled Niall’s own tie loose for at least the fourth time.  Niall pouted. “Now I have to do it again.” “Let me,” said Dev. In the mirror over my shoulder I saw Dev’s hands move at Niall’s throat with a sureness that would be surprising if you didn’t know he was a Pitch to the manner born. Niall didn’t take his eyes off Dev’s face. “There,” said Dev, fingers lingering on Niall’s collar. “Thanks,” said Niall, and yanked it loose again.  They dissolved into giggles and I resisted the urge to bang my head against the mirror.

#genuinely though that is my answer. play it. #outside of that the first two gens of pokemon mystery dungeon are great. i haven't played them in full but twewy/ghost trick are classics #ace attorney but you can play that far more accessibly on pc/mobile/every other device these days #i think everyone knows and loves tomodachi life #a weird pull? i genuinely enjoyed pokemon art academy. #i haven't played this one either but from what i've seen the fossil fighters series is a fun very niche pick #in general just go rooting through videos or lists of ds/3ds games you will definitely find something to love #there were just SO many strange and wonderful things being made in that era because of the portability and such

I am so indebted to Mr. MacKay for making the framing device of his comics just straight up therapy sessions #it’s such a great way to easily have characters get to the root of what they’re really thinking/feeling #and I love having that opportunity with a typically very reserved character as Dr. Badr #and it offers such great food for thought #since Marc’s character is unfortunately my specialty I am fascinated by the comparisons that can be drawn here #or rather the contrasts #since so much of Marc’s life (for better or worse) involved pushing back against every sort of authority possible #(his father/religion/the Marine Corps/Khonshu) #or at least that was a prominent characteristic of his in earlier MK comics #meanwhile Dr. Badr is all-in and I find the depth of that loyalty fascinating #that it can be as equally healthy or destructive as consistently questioning authority can be #and his utter acceptance (and willingness even) that nothing but madness and eventual death awaits him #what can I say I’m greatly intrigued by characters with convictions strong enough to die for #(and there’s that last panel which on re-reading is rather cheeky foreshadowing for such fantastic imagery oh my gosh)

A lot of people really just need to stop engaging with fandom discourse in general. Like by all means set your boundaries but I think you've gone off the deep end if you're in discord servers talking shit about people over ships or characterization of fictional characters in general, no matter which side you're on you have to recognize that's toxic and awful for your mental health. And you really should just learn to block people and make sure your boundaries are clear.

But you are forgetting that just because we as an audience are aware of the tons of Stephen's sacrifices, doesn't mean that Wanda is. She can't possible know about his family history, the car crash, the pain of experiencing 14 million possible outcomes etc, and it made perfect sense for her to say that line in the spur of the moment. She's known for acting out of anger and her intuition helps picking out the way to get under someone's skin.

And even if she did know everything about Strange, the line would have been purposefully provocative. Do you think she'd have given him a pat on the shoulder, apologized and flown away? Not her role as a corrupted manipulator or her job as a character. You don't put your hand on a stove and complain that it burns. She was being cunning. And it hurts us, the audience, to see it because no matter what, we know Stephen and his trauma in details. Our attachment to him is essentially what turns Wanda's words that much more painful and unfair. And yet... isn't that what makes for a clever, determined and successful villain of a story?

Since Sieten't likely isn't happening in the anni event and might get an event to himself, they might rerun the "Watch the Eternals have a fun time and get emotionally attached to them enjoying some low stakes fun that still hints at Siete's inability to rely on other people" event just before for maximum damages

TRUE.... if Sieten't doesn't get brought up in this event i'm sure we'll get an event this year about it (while the 10th anni itself is a big celebration, celebrating all year 'round with impactful storylines to shake up the statusquo would be perfectly appropriate for a 10th year of a game like this).

And in that case well. They could totally prepare it by some good time, showing how much he struggled to get the Eternals into one place, how he wanted all of them to have fun, if you want to go on an event that is then about Sieten't taking all of this away from Seofon.

And..... now that i think about it, even if it might be a bit of a stretch, it's interesting since one of the big emotional beat of the Hotspring event was when Seox and Yurius had a conversation about "that one time they were taken over by something that was supposed to give them power in the world they were rejected by, and instead ended up destroying everything around them, and they had to wrestle with their sins and their guilt and possible relapses only to be saved by their loved ones."

(for Seox, of course, the whole "hidden by his parents because of his power, his parents drugged him to take his murder examen and therefore he lost control and massacred his whole clan, he lived with the guilt and horror all his life never trusting his own self, was in contact with the drug again and almost killed MC because of that, but it's because MC loved him that he could cling to his humanity" And for Yurius the whole "illigitimate son to the King who's status was hidden as a bastard, who also was doing experiments to help the king on the side until he got in contact with a primal beast that took possession of him and is now forever inside of him turning him into a literal monster who slaughtered a huge part of the kingdom (and i'm pretty sure also killed the king) until Albert was able to ground him back to reality, and while he's now in control of the primal beast, he's also regularly on the verge of relapse and it's because Albert is here by his side that he's grounded back to reality)

....... which, if Granblue wants to hurt us, could also be a direction a "Sieten't taking over Seofon's body in a way Seofon wouldn't have control anymore only to commit atrocities hurting the people close to him that may have been keeping Seofon at a safe distance to start with, and the only way to ground Seofon back will be for his loved ones to work on him and teach him how to keep in control" would be forshadowed by.

Just thinking out loud. you know. Just like that :).

not actually sure, i do think he gets vamped at some point in his story. atm i think he's human, but still ~special in some way.

still have coffee and Beverages on the brain (which vampires can also enjoy because it's from a living plant). coffee is irl magic for everyone though, ha.

the gift shop and auxiliary services are run by little old ladies and helpful odd folk from the community, like in real life. they too are more likely to be strange and magical, so the cafe is run by like, coffee witches:P

not all witches are vampires, but undead medical arts and witchcraft are both herbal heavy so they overlap a lot, haha. vampires are nocturnal by nature but they're also just caffeine addicts.

jim's connection to the undead and magical world is probably somewhere through here. that stuff is probably not a huuuge secret, but most of the story is from the undead perspective anyway so this is a human-eye view (initially, at least).

though either way he could always be a witch for Halloween with the geck as his familiar!
