Consistent sounds with every S. Carey album I've listened to. Dark depressed and the cover makes it feel more rural than his previous work. Not seeing much progression or any real change of sound evolution though which is disappointing. I recognize that the lyrics and meaning of tracks are truly unmet for my small brain and lack of attention sometimes. I know this album has much deeper meaning and feeling than what I put into it.

+extra sketch. Check under the cut to see my idea notes for what I imagined the story of this AU would be ;-)

Idea: Killian is tasked with rescuing princess Carey from the clutches of a dragon. But when she gets to the castle, she realizes that princess Carey IS the dragon, and that she is happier in this form. In the end they run away together!

Tried something different with the main piece because I wanted it to feel like a ‘cover’ of the story. Inspired by medieval style tapestries and illuminated manuscripts, but slightly stylized.

oh a little postscript about my floor night, in my section i was actually quite surprised by the number of people over 60 i was seeing on the floor. couples, just older ladies, just older guys, grandparents and grandkids, and i was reminded of way back in 2006 when taylor released her first album, there’s a morning show here in japan that had a longstanding news anchor at the helm for many years named Ogura-san, and he had this music corner every weekday morning where he would share an artist that he likes, and i remember he was a big supporter of taylor from her debut. always had great things to say about her. i’ve been living in japan for essentially the entirety of taylor’s career and my first introduction to her was via this news program. anyway he’s like maybe 75 now and retired from television but, as i was sitting waiting for the show to start and looking around at all these dapper people in their 60s and 70s i was reminded of how there really has been great support for taylor from japan from the very start. she touched on it in one of her speeches, just said a simple “thank you for supporting me from the beginning” but it’s really true and i really think that meant a lot to a lot of people in the audience, some you might not expect. sort of warmed my heart.

#like i think it’s a little more than just japan being a tour hub for asia. #especially in the 90s and 2000’s it was the place to go to launch your global career #not so much anymore but like… we’re talking britney spears we’re talking christina aguilera we’re talking mariah carey #and further back there’s michael jackson and the beatles #i’m also reminded of the kinship between like.. the backstreet boys and SMAP. #there’s a lot of western pop music history here

On a cold December morning, Remus Lupin shows up on Severus Snape's doorstep with a child with very familiar eyes.

“What’s the real reason, Snape?” Remus pushes.

He doesn’t expect an answer, not really. Or if he gets one, it’ll be acerbic and another bit of avoidance. He doesn’t want to think it’s a hopeless endeavour; this is for Harry, and he has to try his best to get Snape on board. He doesn’t want to think of having to send Harry back to a group home.

But then Snape answers in a voice quiet enough that Remus only hears it because of his enhanced senses. 

“I have no wish to become what I hate.” 

He takes a gamble. “Then don’t be like him.” He doesn’t know much about Snape’s childhood, but he remembers enough and this neighbourhood smells like misery and poverty. “Do you really think I’d let you treat Harry any less than with care and affection?” 

Snape bows his head but still doesn’t say more. 

“Listen.” Remus sighs and rubs his eyes. “We don’t… have to see each other, if that’s also part of the issue. I’ll stay away. We only need to agree to rules for Harry, right? Make sure we’re consistent with discipline and the like. He’s a good boy, clever and eager to please. I’m sure he’ll test our limits, but…” Remus looks up from his fidgeting hands to see Snape looking at him over his shoulder. “No matter our past, I trust that you’d never hurt him, just as I would never hurt him. And before you even try to say any rubbish like how Harry is just like James… No.” 

“No?” Snape repeats, voice too silky for Remus’s own good. 

He shivers but shakes his head. “James… I love him like a brother, but I’m not blind to his faults. He was a spoiled brat, and Monty and Ephie raised him to never want for anything. He never had to doubt if his parents loved him, never had to go hungry, never had to wonder if he was good enough to be around others.” Remus tries, tries to keep the bitterness out of his voice. He’s not bitter about James’s golden childhood. Yet — Remus shares more with Harry’s upbringing and probably Snape’s too, than he does with James. He refuses to think about Sirius. 

Snape scowls but returns to his potions. “You mentioned… bruises.”

“Yeah.” He clears his throat, glancing away. “On his arms, and his cousin who’s at least three times his size gave him such a beating earlier this year that he sported a black eye for a week. While he’s never going back to that house, he’ll still be going to the same school if he’s put into a group home.” 

“A magical child in a Muggle group home…” Snape sighs, shaking his head. “Once his accidental magic begins to manifest, it will be hell.” 

“Actually, er,” Remus grimaces, “it’s already manifested. Quite frequently, might I add. From what Harry’s told me, it’s why he was punished so frequently.” 

“Bloody hell.” Snape pinches the bridge of his nose with his free hand. 

The conversation peters out from there. It replays over and over in Remus’s mind; is it too optimistic to think that Snape had seemed almost… favourable towards adopting Harry with him? 

He doesn’t want to get his hopes up. And he certainly won’t be telling this to Harry, not yet. The boy already feels unwanted by nearly everyone in his life, and Remus absolutely refuses to make him feel this way too. 

Harry wakes up some time later. Snape glares at him when he makes to stand, taking three vials and a small bowl of the soup they had for supper to Harry’s room himself. Remus doesn’t mean to eavesdrop, but it isn’t his fault that he can hear them talking without much difficulty.

“Take this one first, swallow in one go.” 

“Ugh!” 

“Silly child, this is why I told you to swallow in one go. Here, take a sip of water. Potions are not meant to taste like pumpkin juice.” 

“Pumpkin juice? Do wizards drink pumpkin juice instead of grape juice, professor?” 

“Hogwarts only serves pumpkin juice. Now, take this one. Don’t dawdle.”

“Ugh! It tastes like Dudley’s old socks!”

“Don’t be ridiculous.” 

Remus hears Harry giggling, though, and Snape’s tone is gentle and dare he say — amused. 

“Do you have a favourite juice, sir?”

Snape is quiet for long enough that Remus thinks he won’t answer, but then he hears Harry gag again from the taste of the third potion. 

“Here, finish your water, then you’ll eat your soup.” Clinking noises, likely Snape putting the vials away. “I am partial to apple juice myself, if I must choose.” 

“I love apple pudding!” 

“Do you, now?” There’s humour in Snape’s voice. 

“I never had pudding before Remus saved me from the Dursleys. I love pudding!”

“If you’re healed by tomorrow, perhaps we can convince your keeper to get some more apple pudding for you.” 

Harry squeals in delight and Remus has to bite his lip to stop himself from grinning. Maybe this won’t be so difficult, after all.

Recently, I finished First Frontier. I was not expecting it to be so slashy at ALL, but oh boy did Diane Carey turn up. She also worked with some guy with a PhD to make sure she got all the scientific/historical facts correct, so just stellar work by her all around.

So we start off with Jim literally forgetting that Bones exists because Spock wears blue so well-

Then he passes out. But don't worry guys, it's Spock's voice that he cliNGS TO THAT GETS HIM THROUGH HIS NIGHTMARES.

Talk about 0-100 real quick...

So once he's feeling (relatively) better, he once again finds an anchor in Spock. Who Jim regards with an opiate expression. Opiate... drug.... Spock is like a drug to him.

I'm living and thriving in the subtext rn, sue me.

Anyways, Spock comes closer to tell him about rocks, and Jim learns closer still.

Bro. All that room on the bridge to look at that big-ass screen and you are standing shoulder to shoulder. Be more obvious 😭

If you care about the plot, they are now on Earth before the meteor that killed all the dinosaurs.

If you don't care about the plot, Jim sees a threat targeting Spock and something inside him "snaps"

Aaaand we are back from drawing security from Mr. Spock. Plus something about them having a schedule that's just their own, unlike any other ANYWHERE in the universe?? Please. Just kiss already.

This man will never let anyone or anything harm Spock.
