Hello lovely! I was wondering if you could please write an enemies to lovers Sirius x reader fanfic where they're always bickering and arguing but one day, reader seems rather numb and he makes an obnoxious comment like "Trouble in paradise, princess?" and they get mad and say "Oh, get f, Black! Easy for you to have a go, isn't it? Why do we always have to talk about my shitty life, Mr. Tell Me A Fucking Secret?" and the reader storms off and he finds out that they're brother died? Sorry if that doesn't make any sense and i fully understand if you don't want to do it. Don't forget to drink water and have a great day :) 💞

Everyone likes Sirius Black. Everyone but you, it seems. You’re not sure how in Merlin’s name he managed his widespread popularity. Maybe there was a secret prank of the Marauders a while back in which they jinxed everyone in the school to grow besotted with the long-haired, mischievous, good-for-nothing scoundrel, then accidentally forgot to cast the enchantment on you. It wouldn’t even be that unrealistic, except there’s absolutely no chance that Sirius hasn’t picked up on your disregard for him. In fact, if you didn’t know any better, you’d say that he enjoys it.
Of course he would. Of course Sirius Black, Quidditch star, Marauder, prankster extraordinaire, absolutely reckless and divinely insensible Sirius Black would get a kick out of riling you up. How could he not? It’s like it’s against his programming to do anything that makes sense.
The two of you have been clashing since the day you met. No matter where you are– walking to class, accidentally paired up for a class project, meandering through Hogsmeade– you and Sirius have a knack for finding each other even in the thickest of crowds, and then promptly wanting to murder each other. You squabble over small things, like tying one’s tie incorrectly, and big things too, like when Sirius pranked you too hard one time and it took the entirety of the Marauders and your friend group working in tandem to prevent a genuine slaughter.
Needless to say, every day in which you can avoid running into Gryffindor’s favorite troublemaker is a good one. Needless to say, in a small castle like Hogwarts, that task is pretty much impossible. Even when you pledge to yourself that you’re going to pick the high road and stop letting yourself get riled up by him, you still somehow manage to get yourself lodged in yet another petty dispute.
Today, though, you really don’t want to see him. You woke up this morning to terrible news from home. Professor McGonagall had called you into her office to deliver the solemn verdict herself. Although she can be a terrifying presence, you’re glad for her today. This way, there wasn’t anyone else around but her when you found out that your brother had died.
It seems impossible. You can picture your brother in your mind– laughing, smiling, running around– and the idea that he could be dead is nonsensical. You would know, you think. Surely you would know. If a bright light like your brother could be snuffed out overnight, you would have been able to feel it. Yet you didn’t, and the world is still spinning, and you are expected to get yourself up and keep on living even though your brother is no longer here. You’ll never be able to see him again, never hear him call your name whenever you go home. He’s gone, gone forever, and you can’t think about anything else but him.
Professor McGonagall, surprisingly, is a good person to help you with loss. She listens to you brokenly sob for a while, then lets you stay in her office for as long as you need to stop crying. She offers you some biscuits, which are only mildly stale, and offers to write you a note to get out of her class, at least, although she can’t speak to the rest of her fellow professors.
You thank her, then head out. Although the idea of curling up in your bed for the rest of the day and perhaps the rest of the year as well is quite tempting, you know that if you let yourself go into misery, you’ll never be able to claw yourself out. You decide to go on with the rest of your classes for the day, as much for the distraction of not being alone with your thoughts as anything else.
You can quietly tell your friends what happened, and they’ll make sure nobody bothers you. Your brother died. Nothing seems to matter anymore. The idea that someone like Sirius Black might try to cause you trouble is almost laughable. Your brother is gone. What can a classroom bully possibly say to you to make this worse?
Sirius Black is getting bored again. He always starts idling halfway through Charms, anyway, but it’s not like that’s his fault. Flitwick should know better than to put oil lamps in front of his students, anyway; yes, they were supposed to be practicing discretion with their incendiary charms, but what does Sirius care about that? Besides, the fire he started only lit Peter’s sleeves on fire, and they managed to snuff that out pretty quick anyway. No damage done, not really.
By the time the day is halfway over, Sirius is itching for something interesting to happen. James is shaking his head and laughing at Sirius’ impatience, chiding him for not paying attention, but Sirius has seen his best friend’s eyelids drooping more than once today, so it looks like both of them are stifled for entertainment.
Sirius can tell that it’s gotten bad, because he’s hardly stepped out of the Great Hall after lunch when he spots Y/N L/N trailing down one of the corridors, and he actually starts grinning ear to ear. Y/N’s a fascinating person. They argue with Sirius like there’s no tomorrow. Sirius regards Y/N as an ever-changing maze to solve. Every time he thinks he’s hit a wall with ways to bother her, he finds something else. It’s delightful. He’s kind of obsessed with her.
So, upon seeing her, it should come as no surprise that Sirius would bid a hasty farewell to his friends and hurry to catch up with her. Usually, Y/N’s quick to shoot him a glare whenever she sees him, but this time she hardly seems to notice him when Sirius appears by her side. Strange, but he can change that.
“Good afternoon, sweetheart,” he says glibly. “I’ve missed you since I saw you yesterday, you know.”
Sirius pauses expectantly, waiting for Y/N to hit him with a rather devious comeback about how she’d rather walk over hot coals than willingly spend time in his company, but instead, she just keeps walking. Her shoulders are hunched, and her gaze is somewhat vacant, as if her mind were a thousand miles away. The quick thought flashes through Sirius’ mind that maybe she’s thinking about some guy, like maybe another student flirted with her earlier today and she’s distracted by it, and immediately his gut twists over with hot, white, irritation.
Fine, then. If she wants to ignore him, Sirius will make that impossible. He can up his game. “Tell me a secret,” Sirius drawls, each word slow and silvery like the smoke he loves so much, “What’s got a pretty face like yours looking so twisted up? I know it can’t be anything too terrible, I don’t think it’s possible for you to worry that sweet head over anything major. Don’t tell me you’ve gotten yourself into some trouble in paradise, princess. I just won’t believe it.”
That does get Y/N to look at him, but the sharp glance she directs at him is full of not anger but pain, pure pain. “Shut up,” she hisses at him. “Don’t you ever get tired of messing with me? Easy for you to have a go, isn’t it? Why do you always have to dig into my life, Mr. Tell Me A Fucking Secret? Leave me alone.”
With that, Y/N abruptly turns and stalks down a nearby corridor. Sirius watches her leave with absolute astonishment. They’ve had some verbal sparring matches which have turned nasty, to be sure, but never before has she looked at him with that much loathing. Worse than that– Sirius swears that he’d caught sight of some tears in her eyes when she’d regarded him with such misery.
Impossible. Y/N has never actually been hurt by anything he’s said to her. Right? No, she hasn’t. Sirius would know. This must mean that something has happened, something bad. Across the corridor, Sirius catches sight of one of Y/N’s friends looking at the scene he’d just caused with great distress. When she realizes Sirius has noticed her, she makes to follow Y/N, but he quickly stands in her way to keep her there.
“What’s going on?” Sirius asks plainly. No use in beating around the bush.
Y/N’s friend looks away. “None of your business, Black. Y/N’s right, how about you leave her alone for the time being?”
Sirius swears he can feel something break in his chest, some tendon plucked like a bowstring. “What are you talking about? What do you know?”
Y/N’s friend tries to get away again, but when it becomes evident that Sirius will not be leaving without an explanation, she sighs and gives in. “Y/N found out this morning that her brother passed away.”
She doesn’t say anything else. She doesn’t have to say anything else. Instantly, Sirius feels rooted in place, struck by an awful wave of guilt. Y/N must be drowning in grief, and he’s just gone and teased her even worse. Merlin, she must hate him if she didn’t already.
When he looks up, he realizes that her friend is gone. Slowly, Sirius goes down the corridor he’d last seen Y/N, carefully checking every door and room in search of her. After a while, he finds her sitting on the ledge of a window, knees tucked up against her chest. The afternoon light falls on her face, revealing fresh tear tracks. Sirius’ heart thuds dully against his ribs, the unenviable guilt rising up to choke him once again.
She looks up when Sirius drifts closer, and her face twists. She flinches as if she’d like to run, but Sirius raises his hands hastily. “I’m not here to fight, honest. I wanted to apologize.”
Y/N regards him suspiciously. “Since when have you ever apologized?”
Sirius winces. “You’re right, I’ve been terrible. It’s just– Merlin, Y/N, I had no idea. I’m so sorry about your loss. I wouldn’t have said a thing if I had known, I promise.”
“So you would have been fine to belittle me like usual, but since you found out I– I lost my brother, you feel bad? Perfect. Now leave me alone.” She says tersely.
Sirius grimaces. “I didn’t mean it like that. Just– I have a brother too, you know? Even though we don’t quite get along, I can’t imagine losing him. The fact that you’re still able to get up and walk around is amazing to me. I think you’re really strong.”
Y/N stares at him, but some of the defensiveness is gone from her gaze. “Really?”
“Really,” he affirms. “This is a terrible thing to have happened to you, and I’m so sorry that you have to go through this. Losing family is awful. Just know– I’m here if you want to talk, alright? I know you probably hate me for everything, and I wouldn’t blame you for it, but if you want someone, I’ll be around.”
Y/N stays silent, and Sirius takes that as his cue to leave. Just as he turns to go, though, he hears a soft voice behind him. “You can stay.”
Sirius looks back at her hopefully. “Yeah?”
“I’ll allow it,” Y/N tells him, but the corner of her mouth starts to quirk up a little into a somber half-smile, so Sirius realizes that he’s okay again, that they’re okay again. It feels far better than he could have imagined.
He takes a seat on the ledge opposite Y/N, and they both look out over the view of the grounds below them. Or– Y/N does, really. Sirius is more distracted by the girl in front of him. There are some things he’s starting to realize about her, about how he feels about her. It’s a good thing he has her forgiveness, so he has the time to think a little more about it.

Chapter 18: Friends will be friends
Somehow, the pranks you'd pulled with Remus had ended up all over the school, hidden by students in the most inconspicuous places so that distracted and unsuspecting kids would stumble upon them and get a good jumpscare. Steven SkeIIignton, as he’d gotten baptised by Marlene who’d gotten a hellscare later on the Halloween party, was still in the closet, and had already gotten at least 20 kids to jump out of their skin in the past week.. .
As a matter of fact, it was often the gophers who would nonchalantly ask their friends to retrieve an item from the wardrobe or hand them a sweater they claimed to have left inside, all in the hopes of giving them a good stratle. And the cycle would just repeat itself. At some point, people even started being wary when asked for small favours like that. It was hilarious.
Meanwhile, James was determined on making his date with Lily absolutely perfect. He did not want to rush it, and so he had you, Sirius, Remus and Peter wake up even earlier so that you’d talk about possible plans. It must have been like 4:30 in the morning when you heard a knock on your door the first time. You hadn’t been sleeping well at all, so you rushed to see who the hell would be knocking on the door only to find James’ head poking out from the invisibility cloak.
“Hurry, you’ve gotta come with me,” he whispered.
“I’m in pyjamas?” You argued, and you really had only a pair of shorts and a light shirt, your covers had a warming spell, so you didn’t need much warm clothes, even with how chill the November night had already gotten in Scotland.
“Doesn't matter, I’ll tell Sirius to lend you something if you get too cold. Now come, it’s urgent!”
You rolled your eyes, picking your wand up and did what James asked since it sounded important. Once you stepped outside he quickly wrapped the cloak around the two of you, holding it carefully above your head, you were huddled beside him as he guided you up a couple of stairs. Since you were still a bit sleepy, you didn’t quite register he was taking you back to their room until you saw their door “James, an emergency?!? What happened?” you asked genuinely worried now.
“I’ll tell you once we’re in the room, we don’t want anyone to see us,” he said as he opened the door and brought the two of you inside. He took off the cloak and you took a couple of steps from him, without James’ body heat irradiating onto you, the sudden drop in temperature made you wince.
“Do you not have a heater in this room?” you complained.
He just shrugged and then clapped his hands loudly “All right boys, wakey, wakey!” he shouted, before using his wand to turn on several lights around the room, you squinted as he did since your eyes were not used to so much brightness.
Peter was the first one to startle awake, looking at you and James very confused, “(Y/N)?”
“Get your own girlfriend and stop dreaming about mine Wormtail!” Sirius, who had the covers on top of his head to avoid the light, said irritated.
“I wasn’t-“ The boy started.
“–She’s here,” Remus said, sitting up on his bed, and rubbing his eyes. He was wearing a soft brown plaid pyjama shirt, and didn’t have all his buttons done, he kinda looked like the softer version of his sexy pirate outfit from the party. But like, really soft and cuddly.
“Who’s here?” He asked, finally kicking the covers off his head, and hollymotherofmerlin, that’s what he looks like just waking up? You wondered as you tried not to shamelessly stare at the way his hair was beautifully sprawled on the bed. “Stashine? What are you doing here?”
You turned to James, “Yeah Prongs, what am I doing here?” You asked, arms crossed over your chest, mostly because of the cold.
“I need your help.”
“For what?” Asked Peter with a frown. You shot him an annoyed look. “Didn’t mean it like that…” he added. You were all too sleepy for decency.
James went and sat on top of the rug in between the beds, and motioned for you to sit next to him. “Come on, I didn’t wake her for you to stay in bed all day, hurry up!” he urged the rest. Peter stood from his bed, he wore a long sleeve white tee and a pair of red plaid pants, and he sat right in front of the two of you. Remus stood up and sat next to James, almost across from you. He had matching pants and a pair of fuzzy socks on. Sirius unsurprisingly was the last one, he lazily brushed his hair with his fingers before he stood up, he had a black queen shirt and his pants had electric guitars stamped all over them. You wonder where he’d gotten those muggle clothes when James spoke again, “Ok kids, we need to plan this together.”
“A prank?” Remus asked.
“You’re bringing her in?” Asked a leery Peter.
“She’d be of great help actually,” chimed Remus, a little defensively.
“She really would! Didn’t I tell you about the libra-“ he started.
“-It’s not a prank you wankers!” James said, interrupting the little fight Sirius and Peter might just start “All though I do think you’d be useful in a prank,” he said turning to you and thinking of the Magical Theory project you’d been working on.
“Jee, Thanks Prongs!” you responded, almost sarcastically, “but if it’s not a prank, then… What's the emergency?”
“There is no emergency, I said it was urgent.”
“James, mate, you either tell us what the hell is going on in your head or I’ll go back to bed,” Sirius threatened “It’s like 5 am.”
“4:30 actually,” you corrected him.
“4:30!? PROOONGS!” Peter whined.
“It’s about Lily!”
“You brought me here for Lily?” You asked with a frown.
“You woke us up because of your crush?!” Remus complained, he was about to snap at James and go back to his bed. As much as he loved his friend, he needed his sleep. He did not want to be snappy all day because of a lack of it.
“It’ll be just a moment, then you can go back to sleep.”
“I thought you were flying today,” Remus said and turned to you, you had your arms wrapped around your legs, and you were rubbing them every now and then, “You cold luv?” He asked. You nodded.
“I meant you and Peter,” he responded “These two will come flying earlier today anyway, the game’s just around the corner, I have to make sure they’re in top shape.”
Remus extended his hand and pulled a sweater from the chest at the end of his bed, before throwing it at you. “Thanks Rem,” you said, pulling the sweater over your head, it was so big you could even cover your legs with it, which you did. And fuck, she looks adorable, Remus thought before mentally slapping himself for it.
Sirius then used his wand to levitate his cover above your head, letting it gently fall over your head, “It’s pretty cold in here, right Starshine?” he asked softly. Sirius could sometimes be so gentle it startled you, but you nodded, turning a little red as you wrapped yourself around the covers. Remus’ sweater wasn’t too warm, but it was soft, and it smelled like chocolate and old books, exactly like the boy, which you had always considered a very pleasant smell, nice, it’s nice, your mind whispered. Meanwhile, Sirius’ cover was still warm since it was the one he had been using earlier, it did not feel like it had any charms on it, which meant it was all just Sirius’ body heat, you wondered how nice it’d be to sleep beside him as you snuggled yourself deeper into the clothes they had borrowed you, relishing on the soft combination of scents.
“Can we focus?” James pressed.
“You haven’t told us why we’re here, James,” You reminded him.
“It’s about the date,” you nodded, prompting him to continue, but it was a little hard to take you seriously wrapped in so many covers like that. “I want it to be the best date of her life.”
“Take her to Hogsmeade,” Peter proposed.
“Take her flying,” Sirius offered, “it always works with girls.”
You threw him a surprised look “Does it?”
“Worked with you, didn’t it?” He told you with the sweetest little face he could pull off.
“You’re such an idiot,” you said as you went for a playful hit on his shoulder, but he stopped your hand and pulled it to his lips instead, kissing it softly.
“Maybe, but you love me anyway,” he responded cockily, leaning his cheek on your hand.
“How about a date in the Room of Requirements?” Remus said loudly, trying not to sound bitter as he interrupted the two of you.
You were still staring into Sirius’s eyes when he spoke but turned to Remus when what he said piqued your interest “The what?”
“The Room of Requirements. It’s this room that sometimes shows up, only when you really need it, and it basically becomes whatever you need it to be. I stumbled into it when I was looking for my homework once, and it was this massive lost objects storage room,” he explained.
“But then he went with me and it turned into a room with a huge cauldron on the inside, basically enough space for us to brew the potion we wanted to brew for a prank. That’s how we discovered it was magical,” James explained.
“That sounds incredible! But… What if it turns into something that scares Lily away?”
“Like what?” James asked, confused.
“Well… I don’t know what you require Prongs, but if by bad luck you think the wrong thing and a freaking bedroom shows up, Lily will probably never talk to you again.”
All the boys laughed at that, even Peter, who seemed to be a lot more at ease now “She just called you horny mate,” he told him in between chuckles.
James had just gone red, which caused everyone to laugh even more “That rules out the Room of Requirements,” Remus said with a playful smile.
“But we should go, tho, seems like a cool place.”
“Not scared of what may show up, Starshine?” Sirius teased, leaning onto you.
“Why? Are you?” you teased back.
James cleared his throat, “Any other ideas?” he asked, looking straight at you “Where would you take Lily on a date?”
You thought about it for a second, “To a picnic by the lake,” you said simply “I’ve seen Lily sketch a few things on a little notebook that she carries around with her all the time.”
“It’s her journal,” James clarified.
“How do you…?”
“He tried to steal it once,” Remus said casually.
“Dude, that’s awful.”
“I was 13! I genuinely thought it’d be a great idea,” he clarified “Besides it was Sirius’ idea.”
“I said it as a JOKE!” The other said, it seemed like a small little quarrel was about to start regarding that particular incident, which just made you look at the two of them, diverted.
“The journal…” Remus said to you, asking you to finish your earlier thought.
“Right, so, she likes drawing,” James stopped staring at Sirius and turned his attention back at you “I’d get some art supplies or something, and take her to a nice place by the lake so we could draw something together, take some of her favourite treats from the kitchens, and maybe some soft music too, she likes ABBA a lot. Then I’d go for a walk with her, while our paintings dry, and just be super nice and listen to her talk. She knows so much, it’s always fun to hear whatever she has to say, so it’d be fun for the two of us.”
“You’re lucky she’s not your love rival Prongs, she’d definitely sway me with a date like that,” Remus teased, as if you needed to take him on a date to sway him.
“You draw?” you asked him, he shook his head “Sirius does tho.”
You turned to your boyfriend, amazed “I’ve never seen you draw.”
“He only draws when he’s alone, I discovered by accident,” Remus answered instead.
“You should show me one day,” you told Sirius with a soft smile.
“Good luck with that,” Remus responded, “he almost beat me once for taking his sketchbook from his hands.”
“Wait, really?” You asked the taller boy.
“If we’re done with date planning, can I go back to bed?” Peter asked.
James took a look at his watch, and nodded “Sure, we’ll meet tomorrow at the same time for the details,” he said.
“Prongs, 4:30? Two days in a row? for real?!” Remus asked, a little annoyed.
“Yeah, we could just do it after classes or something.” You offered.
“Yeah, as if sneaking you into our room in the middle of the night wasn’t hard enough,” James answered.
“I could just… walk in?” you said with a little frown.
“Nope, too suspicious, Lily will notice, she’s clever like that.”
“I could just tell her you’re helping me get some quality time with my boyfriend.” You said, pointing at Sirius “You literally sleep in the same room, no one will think anything of it.”
“Except that you’re shagging Sirius,” Peter said casually.
“It’s her boyfriend though, and they won’t shag with the rest of us here,” Remus said logically.
“Who knows?” Peter said with a shrug “Maybe they’re into that kind of stuff, wouldn’t be the first poly wizards in the history of the world.”
“Poly what-?!” You asked confused.
“-Shut up guys! That’s… It’s not entirely a bad idea…”
“Poly isn’t a bad idea?” Peter asked, just to fuck with James.
“What? No, not that Wormtail, shut up! The other thing…” He turned to you, “We bring you here with the excuse that you’re gonna see Sirius, and then we plan the date,” James said.
“You don’t mind that luv?” Remus asked with a little frown, always so considerate.
“‘Course she doesn’t, we’re dating,” Sirius said matter-of-factly as he placed his arm over your shoulders and brought you closer to him.
“Sirius.” Remus said sternly “She’s a girl, it’s not the same for them, there’s double standards.”
“Why don’t we meet in the Room of Requirements instead?” you suggested, “No one finds out, no one thinks we’re shagging or whatever, and no one suspects we’re planning James’ date either?”
“Gosh, you’re so clever, aren’t you Starshine?” Sirius said as he brought you closer and placed a kiss on your head, or at least over the covers you had around it.
“Sounds good enough for me,” James said with a smile.
“Fantastic, I’m going back to bed,” Remus said as he stood up and walked straight into his bed, gently laying down and covering his face with a pillow. Peter followed suit, although he just threw himself on the bed head down. Sirius only laid his head on top of yours, since you had yours on his shoulder already.
“We’re going flying now, aren’t we?” He asked with a sigh.
“We are indeed,” James said animatedly, a smile playing on his face, he was the biggest morning person you’d ever met, you definitely couldn’t relate, even if you loved flying as much as he did, mornings were just tough on you. From what you were looking at, Sirius was the same, in fact, James was the odd one out of the entire room.
“I should go change,” You said, as you motioned to get up.
“You can’t!” James said, moving his hands in the air, panicked, “Lily will ask why you weren’t in the room, she might be awake by now.”
He wasn’t wrong, Lily might be awake by now, she sometimes woke up earlier to add final touches to her homework or do some of the readings you were left by teachers “But I can’t go flying with shorts and a shirt, I’ll freeze!”
“Keep my sweater,” Remus mumbled, still from under his pillow.
“Problem solved,” James said with a smile.
“The shorts, James.”
“You could just stay and cuddle with me,” Sirius offered with a shrug “James can go flying by himself. Promise my bed is warm and we could–”
“–No way! Quidditch match is in a week, you can’t skip flying now!”
Sirius took a deep breath and groaned, patting you lightly on the back so you’d stop leaning on him as he moved to his own chest, rummaging through it and picking up a pair of pants that didn’t fit anymore “You think this would fit?” he asked.
You raised your eyebrows, and then tilt your head lightly, analysing the situation “It just might,” You said taking it from his hands and putting it against your body.
“Sweet, go change then,” James said as he pretty much pushed you into the bathroom, he was damn lucky you’d put on a pair of trainers when he asked you to come without a warning of his plan.
You sighed once you were inside their bathroom. You couldn’t help but look around a little as you put on Sirius’ pants. Their bathroom was almost a mirror to yours, it had a small cupboard next to the sink with a lot of potions, aftershave and even some Sleekeasy’s, you wondered who was the one that used it, since clearly, it wasn’t Potter, even if his dad had invented it. Probably Peter, you thought, he always has a rather put-together look going on.  When you were done you realised the pants fit well enough, all thought they were a little loose on the waist. You put your trainers back on and threw some water at your face and hair, to get it to somehow look decent, it’d gotten even messier since you’d placed Sirius soft covers over it.
When you walked out of the Bathroom James was sitting on his bed while putting on a pair of shoes while Sirius was putting on his thick quidditch sweater. “Got a hair tie?” You asked him.
He turned to you and nodded “Come,” he said softly as he patted his bed. You did as he rummaged through his side table “Want me to tie it for you?”
You almost gave him a questioning look but shrugged in the end, turning around so he could do his thing. He was soft, a lot softer than you remember him being in the Great Hall a couple of months back, but you weren’t moving as much this time either. And he also had a brush this time, he gently brushed your strands a couple of times before he started to softly pull your hair back. You visibly relaxed as he was running his fingers through your scalp, allowing him to make your ponytail however he wanted. When he was done he leaned closer and pressed a cheeky kiss on your neck.
“Done luv,” he said as he buried his head deeper into your neck, enjoying the way you smelled today.
“Great, let’s go!” James said, completely oblivious to how much Sirius was enjoying himself. The boy gave him an annoyed look as he separated from your neck, but James wasn’t even phased. He was used to Sirius’ temperament, and he also knew he loved flying with you in the mornings.
The three of you walked down to the courtyard and James started giving you exercises to warm up. After that, he gave you a couple of instructions and had you speed back and forth from tower to tower. He was flying beside you as you sped through the buildings and avoided the obstacles that came on the way.
He also had you practise resistance, “The match might be long, we need you to pay attention to everything that’s going on and not to lose concentration because of tiredness.” he told you, he had you hold yourself in the air by grabbing onto the broom with your hands and also practise the same trick you’d done on the trials, over and over again, until your arms were trembling. All the while he had Sirius beat the quaffle back and forth, with the help of a spell that had it bounce back at his face every time he shot it away.
“Prooongs, I’m tired,” He complained, as he flew to the side so the quaffle wouldn’t hit his face “Aren’t you Starshine?”
“Yeah,” you sighed as you let yourself fall on your broom, allowing your head to rest on the handle as you laid flat on it “And we should probably,” you yawned “start going back, we have class in 30 minutes, I still have to put my uniform on.”
“Watch out!” You heard James scream as Sirius’ bludger rapidly sped towards you, you raised back into a sitting position and flew downwards as you grabbed onto the ball with both hands, trying to slowly reduce its speed.
“The chest.” You struggled to say as the quaffle fought its way out of your grasp, Sirius flew straight down and opened the place where you kept all of the quidditch stuff, you flew right after him and forced the bludger into its spot while the grey-eyed boy wrapped the protection chains over it. Once the bludger was secure, you let yourself fall on the ground, exhausted.
James rushed down when he realised the commotion his little practice had caused, it was far away from the worst thing that had happened on morning flights, especially since you had joined them; you and Sirius would constantly do stupid shit that could get you three kiIled, especially because James had somewhat of a lack of self-control, and all that Gryffindor bravado mixed with the endorphins of flying, almost always had him joining your little shenanigans “You ok?” he asked “please tell me you’re not hurt anywhere,” he said as he reached closer to you and started inspecting your hands “we can’t have out star keeper injured just before the ga–“
“–James!” you reprimanded. “Quidditch?! Really?”
“You know I didn’t mean it like that!” he told you, a small regretful frown on his face.
You scoffed playfully, “I sometimes forget James’ priorities consist of Lily Evans and Quidditch, exclusively,” you joked, though you knew it was a lie, technically James’ priorities consisted of: his friends, getting Lily Evans to like him back and Quidditch, in that order. Unless a quidditch game was around the corner in which case, number three became priority #1.
“‘M sorry luv. Are you ok? Not because of quidditch this time.”
You laughed but nodded “Yeah, ‘m good. I just… want to lay here for a bit.”
Sirius threw himself next to you, “We’ve got class.”
“I know,” you answered, “I’m just… really freaking tired today, didn’t sleep well either.”
“‘Cause of Prongs?” he asked, and you felt him reach for your hand, tracing small patterns with his finger over your palm.
You shook your head,  “Not that… I’ve got those nightmares again.”
He turned to you, a sympathetic look on his face “I wouldn’t let anything happen to you, you know that, right?” You nodded, not sure how much Sirius would be able to do against your nightmare. But leaned in to give him a soft kiss on the cheek, but he was faster, and he moved to give you a kiss on the lips “Been wanting to do that since I saw you standing in my room,” he said “That and other things.”
“Ugh, get a room! I swear, We were better off before you two started dating,” James complained as he started gathering up his things.
“Shut it Prongs, you’re just jealous,” Sirius said before giving you another kiss.
“20 minutes to get to class.” James reminded you then. Sirius groaned, but finally stood up, extending a hand to pull you as well. You took it gladly and stood next to them, as you levitated the chest towards the storage room under the bleachers.
“How about I go change and bring your cloaks while you gather some food for me? We can meet just outside the great hall?”
“That’s a brilliant idea!” James told you as he pulled a pair of keys outside of his pocket, and threw them at you, you caught them with ease “Mine is hanged next to my bed.”
“Mine’s on my dresser,” Sirius added.
“Sweet, I’ll hurry up and meet you in a bit, deal?” You said, before taking off.
“What about my goodbye kiss, Starshine?” Sirius shouted.
“I’ll give you a hello kiss when we see each other again instead Puppy,” you said casually, throwing a wink his way.
Once you arrived at your bedroom, you realised everyone was gone. Which made sense, the girls should have gone down for breakfast several minutes ago, it was you who was lagging behind. You quickly took off the clothes the boys had given you and put your uniform on, taking Remus’ sweater along with you when you walked towards the boys’ room. You used James’ key to open the door and went straight to James’ bed, taking his cloak in a swift motion before realising Remus was still in his bed.
He was soundly asleep, his chest rising and falling slowly, looking ever so peaceful. You stared at him for a minute, not realising you were staring until he frowned and moved a little in his sleep. Peter had clearly left a while ago, his bed a total mess, since he had rushed down to get a good fill of breakfast. You approached the boy “Hey Rem!” you whispered, as not to startle him, but he didn’t budge, which prompted you to move closer to him and gently place your hand over his shoulder, shaking it just slightly “Remus, class is about to start.”
Remus, still half asleep, and thinking you were Sirius, grabbed your arm and threw you onto the bed next to him, placing his forearm over your chest to hold you down in a move that you could only describe as a martial arts movement you’d seen in comics at some point.
You gasped, it all happened too fast “Ooofff... if you didn’t want to wake up, you could’ve just told me…” you joked as you stared right into his eyes, he was hovering over you, pressing you into the bed a little harder than what would be comfortable.
“Dollface?” He asked confused, quickly getting off you “I’m sorry, I thought you were Sirius.”
Dollface? That’s a new nickname, you thought. “Do you normally push Sirius onto your bed like that?” you asked with eyebrows raised as you sat back on the bed to look at him better.
“It’s an inside joke,” Remus explained “Sirius did it to me once when I tried to wake him up.” He yawned, “Why are you here again?” He asked, a little confused.
“Came to get the boys’ robes,” You said, lifting yourself over him, who was sitting on the other side, to try and find James’ uniform that you’d grabbed previously. Remus held his breath as your hand crossed over his lap casually. Can she hear my heart racing? he wondered. The robe was now pooling on the floor, no longer neatly ironed as it had been, you winced when you noticed the state it was on, and let yourself fall back on Remus’ bed as if it were your own with a sigh “James went a little savage with training today,” you complained “I feel like my arms will fall off.”
Were you being a little dramatic? Probably, still, Remus felt like the only person you could complain to, you didn’t want to appear weak to anybody, let alone James who was way too preoccupied with the game, but with Remus it was different, you genuinely felt like he wouldn’t judge you for being tired, or for not managing to quite keep up with the other boys’ stamina.
“I might have something that could help,” He told you looking through his drawers.
You shook your head quickly, “Nu-uh, last time I took some of your medicine Remus, I ended up so freaking high I kept blabbering about how pretty Lily’s hair was, how nice your hands are, and how thirsty I was for Sirius.”
“You… like my hands?” He asked with a frown, taking a look at them, especially at the scars on them.
“And that wasn’t the only thing I said either,” you responded with a sigh, finally standing up, “We should probably go,” You told him, as you grabbed his sweater from the spot you’d left it next to your bag “Where do you put your dirty clothes?”
“What for?” He asked, turning around “Oh, that?” He approached you and took it in his hands before giving it a whiff “It’s not dirty,” he said before plopping it over his head.
“Didn’t I sweat it?” You asked with a little frown.
“Nah, it smells fine,” he said casually as he walked over to the bathroom, that was a lie, it didn’t just smell fine, it smelled bIoody delightful. He gave it another whiff as he sat on the edge of the tub and then quickly remembered what he was doing. Cursing himself for it and banging the wall, causing a potion bottle to fall on the ground and break into hundreds of tiny little pieces.
“You all right?” he heard you asking from the other side of the door.
“Yeah, fine, fine.” He said as he pulled his wand out and whispered “reparo.”
When he was out of the bathroom, Remus already had his school pants on, he didn’t bother to change his pyjamas nor his sweater before he plopped his robe on top.
“You found Sirius’ robes?” he asked as he approached you, you were rummaging through some of the drawers next to Sirius’ bed.
“He said on the dresser, but he didn’t say where on the dresser,” you complained.
“Bottom left drawer,” Remus replied simply, he was over at his desk, gathering some books and placing them on his bag.
You leaned down to get it and finally found the robe, pulling it out just to have a small sketchbook drop from it. You opened your eyes wide as you picked it up, looking back at Remus “Is this the–“
“–Yeah,” he said.
“You never got to see it, did you?” He shook his head in response. You looked at the small notebook, so tempting. Not only for you, in fact, it was just as tempting for the two. “Imma… Imma put it back…”
“Yeah, great idea,” he said and helped you close the drawer after you put the notebook back in the dresser.
“We’re super late.” He told you.
“Let’s run!” You said with a smile as you approached the door.
“Weren’t you knackered?”
You shrugged “We need to get to class anyway,” you said, nodding your head with a smile, Remus thought it was the most tempting smile he’d ever seen in his life.
“Fine then, let’s run.”
The two of you started running right after, down the stairs, through the common room, out of the portrait and towards the other set of stairs. You slid down some of the stairs’ handles and then continued running. Remus was keeping up with you easily, and he was having lots of fun. He was actually admiring the way your hair flowed behind you when you turned to him “Come on, we gotta hurry!” you said with another one of those diverted smiles that made him want to kiIl himself for liking you so much. When the two of you finally arrived outside of the great hall, Sirius, James and Peter were already there.
“Told you they’d come together,” Peter told Sirius “You woke Moony up, didn’t you?” he asked.
“Yeah,” you said, leaning down and using your own knees for support as you regained your breath “he sleeps like a log,” you added.
“I wouldn’t say that…” Remus said, also panting a little.
“You ran all the way here?” James asked. You only nodded. “That’s great for strengthening your legs,” he said with a small approving nod. You threw his robe at him “Oi! Careful luv.”
“Stop pestering her about quidditch you plonker,” Remus said, finally standing straight, and handing Sirius his robe, their fingers brushed lightly as he did and he almost flushed. Fucking hell, this needs to stop. He made a mental note to call Alice later, she was really good at helping him forget, or at least distract enough to calm the urges down a little.
“Well then, let’s get going,” Sirius said as he handed you a sandwich wrapped in a napkin.
“You didn’t get anything for Rem?” you asked as you walked alongside them toward the classroom.
“Wormy didn’t tell us you hadn’t eaten until we were outside,” James said apologetically.
“No problem, we can share,” you said, giving it a bite and handing it over to the boy so he could do the same, he seemed rather hesitant “Unless you think sharing food is gross… We could cut it or–“
“No, it’s fine.” He said as he took the sandwich from your hands.
“It’s not like you’ve never exchanged saliva anyway,” Peter shrugged casually.
That had Remus choking on his bite and coughing a couple of times, you took an empty water bottle from your bag and whispered “aguamenti,” before handing it over to him. You then placed your hand over his to drag it closer to your mouth and give the sandwich another bite. Remus had gotten so red at that point you started to worry, maybe he was actually choking on something, he wasn’t. “Remus are you–“
“I’m fine, just, I choked for a second,” he lied. In truth, he’d actually gotten flashbacks to the time you’d both kissed when you randomly grabbed onto his hand and thank Merlin it seemed like he was choking because if he hadn’t he was sure Sirius would punch him in the face for it, and maybe he actually deserved it.
You all got to class a little late that day, Professor Bins had you practise a couple of cleaning spells as a punishment. But the five of you executed them so impeccably, that he ended up giving you house points for it.
Later on that day, you were sitting alongside the girls in the Great Hall during lunch when you heard the owls started to arrive. A few minutes later, a package wrapped in brown kraft paper dropped down right in front of you.
“Is it? it?” Marlene asked.
“I think so,” you nodded, ripping the paper open, only to find your quidditch sweater, along with the rest of the uniforms, you smiled widely when you saw it proudly put it on “It’s stunning.”
Marlene nodded in agreement, she still remembered the day she got her first Quidditch uniform delivered. Sirius was walking towards the table and as you were adjusting the sweater and whistled. You dеadpanned at him as he approached you with a cheeky grin, biting his own lip to avoid making it bigger “It suits you.”
“Thanks Puppy!” you replied, smiling as well. He sat beside you, unnecessarily close, not that either of you minded.
“All of your gear is here?” He asked as he looked through the rest of the items in the bag.
“All the new stuff at least,” you responded. The rest is already in my room, especially the protective stuff; James gave me some from when he was smaller, they’re still in great condition.
“Oh, you’ll take my goggles then.”
“I’ve got some of my own.”
“I’m aware,” he said. “But if you’re wearing James’ clothes, then you should also wear something of mine.”
“Why?”
“Because.” You frowned at his answer.
“For luck,” Peter intervened. “You know what they say, something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.”
“You can’t wear something blue on a match against Ravenclaw,” Tom intervened, even if he wasn’t a player, he was very passionate about Quidditch, mostly because he was friends with a bunch of players.
“Isn’t that for weddings?” Beth intervened as she placed a piece of bread in her mouth.
“No, I’m pretty sure it’s for luck,” Peter repeated.
“It is for weddings,” Lily said then, “It’s a muggle thing. Besides, if she’s wearing some of the old stuff from James, she wouldn’t need anything else. That would be enough for the borrowed thing.”
“Oh, I know! You could wear blue undies!” Tom said suddenly, you threw him a warning look “What?” he said, “Ye lads ’re looking for problems, I’m getting solutions.”
“I’ve got this really old hair broach you could wear.” Beth offered.
“So that’s… Something old from Beth, something borrowed from James, something blue: Tom’s idea for the underwear, and something new,” Marlene said, pointing at the bag filled with new equipment as she said the last bit.
“Brilliant, now she can get married,” said Mary ironically, “Will you really do such a ridiculous thing for luck?” She said, turning to you.
“I, for once, think she’ll look great in blue undies,” said Tom with a shrug. That earned him a kick on the shin from Sirius, “Auch!” he complained “I was just saying.”
“You’ll still wear my goggles right?” He asked, throwing you his puppy eye look.
You sighed but nodded “Sure thing Puppy, I’ll wear your goggles.”

The venue was packed to the brim with fans waiting to enter and watch the battle of their favourite bands. You had taken a reserved spot at the back of the building, giving you easy access to bypass the crowd. You made your way inside through the back door, winding through swarms of musicians and crew members hurriedly preparing for their time to shine on stage. Your eyes scanned the room, looking for the subject of tonight’s interview: Sirius Black.
You eventually spotted the door you were looking for, labelled with the band’s name. You knocked without hesitation, waiting patiently for someone to answer the door.
“Who is it?” A man inside shouted.
“Y/n L/n!” You answered back, crossing your arms.
You heard hurried footsteps thumping towards the door before it swung open, revealing the very man you were looking for. He leaned on the door frame, a cigarette hanging between his lips. He plucked it out of his mouth, leaning his head back to blow the smoke upwards.
“To what do I owe the pleasure of Miss L/n herself?” He spoke, a cocky smirk spreading across his lips.
“Did your manager not let you know that he had scheduled an interview for you?” You questioned, stepping past him and entering the dressing room.
“My manager? Oh, that guy. We fired him weeks ago.”
“Oh. Well we scheduled it last month, and I paid for this, so.” You stated, pulling your notepad and tape recorder out of your bag.
He shut the door, following you inside. “You paid to talk to me? Well, I’m honoured.”
“It’s my job. And you’re hot shit right now. Anyone would be stupid to pass up an opportunity like this.” You settled on one of the leather couches, setting your tape recorder down on the coffee table next to an ashtray full of extinguished cigarettes.
Sirius grinned with pride, taking the seat directly across from you. “I guess I am pretty hot. So are you.”
“That’s not what I meant.” You defended, flipping your notepad open to an empty page.
“But it’s what I meant.” He took another drag from his cigarette, this time not bothering to blow it away from your face. From the look on his face, it seemed like pushing your buttons was bringing him great pleasure. After a moment, he continued. “Alright, I’ll play nicely. Go ahead and ask your little questions.”
You nodded, clearing your throat and starting the recording. “As you know, I’ve already interviewed your bandmates before, so today’s questions will really focus on you. My first question is about the latest album you guys put out. What was the inspiration behind it?”
Sirius leaned back in his seat, resting an arm on the back of the sofa. “I mean, at first we were just fucking around, Writing random shit, as you can probably tell. Some of the songs were purely nonsense. Later in the album is when the lyrics actually mean something. It’s really just about life. Ups and downs, highs and lows. Things that we’ve experienced in our lives, things that we want out of life. We did a lot of collaborating on the lyrics for this one. Usually Remus and I take the lead with the songwriting.”
You jotted down his response, nodding along with his words. “What song would you say is your favourite on the album, and why?”
“If I had to pick, I love Midnight Melody. It literally came to me one night while I was sleeping, and I woke up and wrote it right away. It’s really about reminiscing on past relationships, which is pretty obvious. I’m not the best at hiding messages between the lines, so they’re pretty blatant.”
You continued to conduct the interview, asking him more about what he has planned for the future and other things about his music. Towards the end of the interview, he had succeeded in loosening you up, even sharing a laugh with you a few times.
“You’ve got quite the reputation, Sirius. What’s the wildest thing you’ve done?” You questioned, leaning in with anticipation.
Sirius chuckled, also leaning forward to lock eyes with you. “Oh, darling, you don’t want to know. I’m sure you know that some stories are better left untold.” His voice was low yet confident, sending chills down your spine.
“Come on, Sirius. I’m sure everyone is dying to know.” You responded with a sly smile, hoping that he’d give in.
He shook his head, putting his cigarette out in the crystal ashtray between the two of you. “That’s all you’ll get out of me for today, Y/n. If you want more information, you’ll have to come see me after the show. Without the recorder.”
The tension in the air was suffocating, and his fixated gaze on you was making it hard to say no. Especially when he kept glancing down at your lips as he awaited your answer.
“I might just take you up on that offer.” You spoke after a moment, shutting off the recorder.
His grin widened as he watched you pack your things into your bag, heading for the door. He caught your wrist, drawing you back to him. “I’ll be waiting for you, Y/n. Right here, after the show.”
In the moment the interview felt so far behind you, as if it was a distant memory. Right now, all you could focus on was the way he was looking down at you, a glint of lust in his eyes.
“I’ll be here. Just make sure your bandmates aren't.”
“Oh, I’ll make sure of it, sweetheart. And look.” He let go of your wrist, gesturing to the doorknob. “Lucky for us, the door locks.”

“THE TWO OF YOU are quite the rivals,” the tv show host begins, smiling wide—his teeth are almost as blinding as the studio lights glaring at you from behind him, casting a shine on his bald head. your eyes focus on the spot as he continues, almost leering at you, in his regular, oily fashion as his mustache—almost as if it gained a life of its own—seemingly wiggles at you. caught up in the distractions of it all, you almost miss the end of his question entirely, “how did this fearsome rivalry turn into the sudden whirlwind romance we’ve all been hearing about?”
the host plasters on a well-practiced smile, too plastic to be anywhere near genuine, and you’re reminded of why you cannot stand the industry and all the interviews that came with it. the longer you sit here, the more you regret saying yes to your manager’s sudden whim to turn yours and sirius’ mutual hatred into a cloyingly sweet love story in an effort to sell concert tickets for your upcoming (separate) tours.
realizing that sirius was not about to grace the tv show host with an answer, you take the lead—your manager never said you couldn’t have any fun with this, so, eyes twinkling, you set out to ruin every shred of sirius’ infamous bad-boy persona. you leaned forward, adopting a conspiratorial whisper as if letting the host and the audience on a well-kept secret as if you weren’t a rockstar and there weren’t cameras picking up on your every movement, “well, i’ll have to admit, it took a lot for sirius to actually win me over. but i mean how many times can you say a man serenaded you, standing outside the window of your apartment in the dead of night with ‘my girl’ by the temptations?”
you leaned back on the couch, a self-satisfied grin on your face as the audience cooed their adoration, and the host’s expression morphed from one of shock (even this old geezer knew of sirius black’s reputation for stringing along a long list of broken hearts) into a more neutral one.
you glanced at sirius, noticing him opening his mouth to reply, but you couldn’t have him ruin your fun, so you continued, “it was so sweet—i couldn’t even laugh at him, poor guy, we all know why he’s a drummer and not the singer.”
the audience burst into laughter, swept up and pulled in by your playful words and almost easy-going affection.
sparing a glance at sirius, whose usual swagger and fuck-all demeanor seemed to be missing, you watched as he blinked twice, before settling back into his persona. the viewers at home and the current audience would later declare this to be an endearing reaction to your loud show of love; even your respective bandmates would believe the act. only your manager, having conducted the arrangement herself, would be privy to the truth.
you basked in your victory: sirius: zero, you: one; as short-lived as it was as sirius leveled a roguish grin at the cameras, and the audience, stretching enough for his band tee to ride up and a small silver of skin to be noticeable, before wrapping an arm around your shoulder, and shuffling you uncomfortably closer.
“what can i say—only the best for my girl,” he shrugged, grinning so large, he was almost baring his teeth.
the audience tittered, their amusement palpable, as the interviewer excitedly leaned forward, almost as if he was forgetting he was delving into the details of a relationship between two nineteen-year-old rock stars, “would you say that you’re head over heels?”
“oh, totally,” sirius confirmed with a smirk, nothing short of self-assured, as he squeezed your shoulder, “i actually wrote a song of ours about her.”
it takes all of your self-control to not grind your teeth right now and to reach over and slap him—his shameless promotion was going to jeopardize this stupid fake relationship and ruin both of your careers. you manage to keep your fake smile plastered on and your hands controlled. the silver lining in this entire ordeal was that this was a lesson learned for you because next time you weren’t going to mess around with any other rockstars—oh no, you’re swearing off rockstars, entirely.
the tv show host leans forward, almost on the edge of his seat, making you shift imperceptibly closer to sirius, “now, come on, young man, don’t keep us hanging.”
sirius smirks again, his gaze lingering on you so briefly, you feel like you imagined it, “i wrote ‘looks that kill’ off our latest album about her.”
the host, far too caught up in unraveling the details of your whirlwind romance for any respectable aging old man, rushed to provide context, “for our listeners who are not yet familiar with the marauders’ latest album, it’s called ‘shout at the devil’.”
“listen, i know all you critics are gonna be like ‘oh that’s such a superficial song’ and all that bullshit,” here, the audience titters at the profanity, but sirius only looks faintly apologetic, running a hand through his messy hair, “but what i was thinking when i wrote was about the first time i met her and how i just kept thinking she was the prettiest girl i’d ever seen, even when she was yelling at me.”
he’s earnest—his expression almost looks raw, like he’s personally telling you all this—and the rare show of vulnerability from a rockstar as infamous is alluring. sirius even referenced the moment the two of you solidified your mutual hatred across the world of rock n roll—getting papped in the midst of a heated argument. his charisma is on an entirely different level that even you, like the audience, get swept up in his little show for just a minute, before you’re able to snap out of it.
the audience coos over the two of you, yet again, and you reach up to play with his hand hanging off the edge of your shoulder, not wanting to be outdone. you make a mental note to remind sirius that he definitely had potential as an actor if he ever decided to make an industry switch, even though you supposed he was laying it on a bit thick, trying to ignore the sudden burning in your cheeks and the warmth you felt in your chest.
the host’s voice faded into the background as the applause of the audience washed over you, and you exchanged a knowing glance with sirius. as you stepped off the stage, the rush of adrenaline that had carried you through the interview began to wane, and you found yourself standing in the parking lot, the world around you returning to its regular pace.
there he was, leaning against his suzuki, effortlessly cool, the helmet hanging nonchalantly from the handle. a smirk tugged at his lips, almost as if he knew you were both playing a dangerous game. he was an invitation for danger, and after dealing with him and his antics, you knew better than to get involved.
however, even though you knew better, you couldn’t help yourself. you never could, around him—like a moth drawn to a flame, you were always drawn to the temptation that was him. you approached him, feeling nowhere like the undaunted rockstar you were recognized as.
you stared up at him as the sun glared down at both of you, casting a glint off his silver nose ring. the silence was almost as suffocating as the heat.
“y’know,” you started, the desperation evident, and you wondered if he noticed, “you could make a really good actor if you wanted.”
“huh?” sirius blinked, momentarily caught off guard by your unexpected remark. his confusion quickly gave way to a familiar grin, the twinkle in his eyes betraying the mischief hidden beneath the surface. “yeah, i definitely put on the performance of a lifetime.”
you rolled your eyes at his reply, well aware of his knack for charming his way out of any situation. “where’d you get the brilliant idea to self-promote your album using the bullshit about writing about me? now lily’s going to be after me to do the same to promote ours.”
sirius let out a chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck in a gesture that was strangely endearing. the confident facade he usually wore seemed to fade, revealing an almost nervousness alien to him, “i guess i really am just a genius.”
you couldn't help but scoff at his self-assuredness, recognizing the teasing tone in his voice. he stared off into the distance, lost in thought. then, as if jolted back to reality, he turned his attention back to you, his grey eyes piercing and direct.
“do you wanna get out of here?”

hey can I request something with Sirius and the reader's birthday? Contrary to popular belief, I think Sirius would be into spending quality time together instead of throwing parties. So, maybe they're a new couple and he shows up at her place and they have a great day?

Sirius doesn’t know how exactly he’s managed it but somehow he’s wrapped your present in the most chaotic way he’s ever seen, and that’s saying something because he’s witnessed the travesty that is Marlene’s wrapping. He’s half inclined to rig up James, who miraculously has the gift of wrapping like it’s his job, but he wants it to mean something to you.
Perhaps that’s why he feels as if his heart might jump out of his chest when he shows up to your house, a sudden tremor that takes over his hands as he goes to knock on your door and he feels as if he’s forgotten how to breathe.
Sirius smiles, ear to ear, when he hears you shout a soft “one minute!” Your voice is as sweet as ever and the sudden panic seems to dissipate for a moment. You rush to the front door opening with a smile just as big as his and he immediately opens his arms out to you enveloping them around your shoulders as you mirror his actions, he presses a kiss to the top of your head before closing the door behind himself.
“Happy birthday sweet girl,” he says, smoothing his thumb over your knuckles as you let out an almost giddy laugh, completely breathless. He’s always made you feel like that even before you two got together, the butterflies were always so persistent.
You watch as he rummages through his bag, pulling out a very tragically wrapped gift, and you try your hardest to bite back the giggle that bubbles up in the back of your throat.
He looks over at you with a knowing look, “Don’t start, I tried really hard” he says, with a grin as he hands you your present, his nerves creep their way back into his heart.
Sirius doesn’t take his eyes off of you, waiting in anticipation as you tear the wrapping paper from the small box. His leg bounces and his heart skips a beat or two when he catches the gleam in your eyes and he swears he’s falling in love with you all over again.
It’s a delicate bracelet, the charm that connects the chain is a small red heart-shaped crystal. You take it out carefully looking over at Sirius, who’s quick to help you put it on, his warm fingertips brushing against your wrist as he clasps the bracelet together.
It’s gorgeous with the way it shines against your skin, under the afternoon sun that slips through your blinds, painting the room and the bracelet in a lovely light.
“It’s beautiful Sirius, thank you so much” you whisper, wrapping your arms around his neck as you bring him into a hug, “I love it,” you tell him as he pulls away, gently taking your wrist into his hands as he observes the piece of jewellery.
“I’m glad, I was losing my mind trying to figure out what to get you” he chuckles, and he only realises just how shaky his hands still are when you take them in your own.
“Well you did amazing, It really is beautiful,” you tell him with great sincerity in your tone, it makes his chest bloom with warmth.
“You’re beautiful” he winks, smirking at you when you shake your head with a breathy chuckle. He nudges your shoulder with his own as he leans into you, and there’s nowhere else in the world he’d rather be than here with you.
Sirius stays over the night, he pays for whatever dinner you want insisting that “it’s your birthday and you deserve everything” and you quickly learn just how stubborn he can be, giving up on fighting him on the matter, you can’t help be feel like the luckiest girl on the planet.

Lay All Your Love On Me
Sirius Black x Fem!Reader
Summary: Sirius has always been your friend, but he falls in love with you and decides to confess his feelings at the sound of ABBA at a party.
Word Count: 2.2k
Warnings: Alcohol, shitty family and mentions of mental health.
A/N: Technically, this is not historically accurate bc this story happens at the sixth year (1976) and ''Lay all Your Love on me'' was first released at 1980, so just use your imagination.
Tumblr media
Sirius Orion Black never thought he would one day find love. He never received love from his own family, and even the love he felt for Reg was difficult because Regulus was the shy little boy. Sirius was the rebel, which meant Regulus had to hear that Sirius was a bad influence all along and, unfortunately, when everyone says you shouldn't be in someone's company, it becomes tough to maintain a good, normal relationship with that someone.
But everything changed when Sirius arrived at Hogwarts.
He thought the rest of his life would be miserable because he went to Gryffindor and not Slytherin like his whole family. But he became friends with James, then with Remus and then with Peter. He has finally found his true family.
In the second year, he met you. You, his future best friend and partner in crime, his biggest confidant; who would give him a comforting hug, so he could cry because he had no words to say how broken he was, and you wouldn't insist on talking because you always understood him, even without words. You were his great love, his world, his everything.
Obviously, you didn't know that.
He would rather die than lose you because he was sure you would never feel the same. You were perfection itself; you were all the good the world had to offer, for Merlin's sake.
Besides, you were his best friend.
God, he hated that word so much.
It brings us to this exact point where Gryffindor won the Quidditch Cup and a party is going on in their common room, and you obviously were here because you've always loved supporting James and Sirius, and you could have fun with Remus, Lily, Marlene and Dorcas. Sirius has been watching you throughout the party because you looked stunning. You were wearing a simple black dress, and you didn't do anything different with your hair, but you could have fought a family of dragons alone, and you'd still be the most beautiful girl in the world in Sirius' opinion.
Sirius saw a guy flirting with you at the start of the party, and he instantly sulked. He knew he had no right to be jealous, but he couldn't help but feel a pang in his chest as that random guy made you throw your head back while you laughed. So Padfoot decided to try to distract himself from his grief by drinking Firewhiskey. He drank a lot, but he was so used to alcohol that he needed more than just a few sips to lose control of his own mind. So, at the moment, he was simply tipsy.
The eldest child of the Black family was dancing, talking loudly to James and having a good time, managing by some miracle not to think about you for a while, when the first notes of “Lay All Your Love On Me” started playing on the record player that some muggle-born brought to the party. ABBA was your favourite musical group, and Sirius just couldn't stand you singing one of their songs every thirty minutes. He loved you as much as a man could love a woman, but you definitely knew how to get out of tune sometimes.
Before he could stop himself, Padfoot's eyes met his and, just like any other occasion when this happened, his heart raced and he felt his cheeks start to turn red. But at that exact moment, he realized something: he was tired of loving you from afar. He loved being his friend, but he needed to know if you'd be able to do him the honour of tasting the lips he's fantasized about for years. If you would give him your permission to hold you in his arms to make you feel loved and safe. If you'd be as happy as he would be if the two of you held hands as you walked to Hogsmeade in front of everyone, showing that you belonged together. Being her friend was no longer enough. He would respect you if you didn't want to be his girl, but if there were a minimum chance to you to accept his heart, he definitely wouldn't waste it.
Taking advantage of the fact that one of your favourite songs was playing, he decided to tell you how he felt about you. He climbed on the table and started singing the song that translated exactly how he felt about you.
I wasn't jealous before we met,
Now every woman I see is a potential threat
He had absolutely no pride in feeling like punching any boy in the face who flirted with you because, as much as he hated to admit it, he was so insecure. Throughout his childhood, he was told that he was replaceable and an embarrassment to the family and, except for Andromeda and Regulus, he never felt that anyone truly loved him. His self-esteem undoubtedly improved after he made friends and discovered who he really was, but the feeling that he was unlovable and alone never went away. If you were his girlfriend, he would respect and trust you completely, but he always felt that any boy in the world would be much better for you than he is. And it just tore him apart.
And I'm possessive, it isn't nice
You've heard me saying that smoking was my only vice
Remembering that brought a smile to his face. You always hated your smoking habits. Every time you saw him lighting a cigarette, you would look at him with daggers in his eyes or launch into an extremely long rant about how nicotine would "ruin your lungs." Every time you did that, he rolled his eyes and had to stop himself from shutting you up with his lips.
But now it isn't true
Now everything is new
And all I've learned has overturned
I beg of you
One thing he never told you is that he has a collection of…well, you. Since he was 12, he kept all the things you gave him and all the little things that remind him of you in a white box under his bed. Everything. All the little drawings you made in the middle of potions class in the corner of the parchment. All the coloured pebbles you gave him in third grade when you had that iconic hippie phase. The Queen concert tickets you gave him for his birthday, the pressed flower that he always forgets the name of but reminds him of you. He looks at these things every night before he falls asleep.
Remus, James and Peter found out about the box (and consequently his love for you) two years ago and ever since then, it's been a nightmare because every time they saw you talking to Padfoot, and they were pretty sure you wouldn't. Noticing them, the three marauders would make kissing sounds, hands hearts and all that embarrassing shit you do to embarrass and annoy your friends when they have a crush right behind you, so only Sirius would see them.
Even with his friends irritating him, Sirius was very grateful to have them to help him deal with his feelings. He has never been in love and he never thought he would because all the members of the Black family had arranged marriages, so now that he loves someone he has no idea what to do. He just wanted you to love and care for him as much as he loves and cares for you. Not only that, he wanted you. You to be his and the privilege to belong to you.
Don't go wasting your emotion
Lay all your Love on Me
Sirius' family and life are completely messed up, he knew that. But even with his relapses, he was fine. Not many people can say that, but he was fine. Yes, he has a lot of problems, and sometimes he feels sad, but he, (Sirius realized as he sang in front of all the people at the party) was genuinely happy. He no longer feels the emptiness in his chest that he used to feel when he was younger. He had the best friends he could ask for, he had you, and his mental health is stable.
So yes, he has relatively heavy baggage, but who doesn't? You have many flaws. You have your traumas and your past, but Sirius was willing to overcome them because he loved you. He would never ignore them, make them seem less important, or treat her like a china doll because of it. He would just accept that they exist and he would love you unconditionally because he wanted everything from you. Sirius wanted the fights and the disagreements and the arguments, as ugly and terrible as they were because they would be with you; and everything is better with you.
He would try to be the best man in the world for you because that's what you deserve. He would respect your time and your limits and care much more for you than he does for himself. Sirius wouldn't be perfect, but he would try his best because it would make you happy and as long as you were happy, so would he.
It was like shooting a sitting duck
A little small talk, a smile and baby I was stuck
I still don't know what you've done with me
A grown-up woman should never fall so easily
He still remembers the exact moment he realized he was in love with you. Sirius and you had just started the fifth year and you both were under the tree beside the dark lake. It was an autumn afternoon and it was very windy, so there was no one around the two of you. You were telling Sirius about your family and how unforgettable your vacation was. You and your cousins went to your aunt's beach house and since you and your mom were the only witches in the family, you and your parents had a lot of funny moments when your whole family went to the beach and you had contact with a lot of families Muggles and their powers sometimes got out of control. He was crying with laughter because you sneezed next to a couple and you and your cousins had to find a way to make the woman's beach bag stop floating without them realising that something was really wrong with you.
You and he were just being two stupid teenagers, but at that moment Sirius realized that you were his favourite person. And he would die a happy man if he spent the rest of his days listening to the sound of your voice because it always made him feel warm inside. He never realized that you had the most beautiful eyes in the world, or how much he wanted to kiss you. He wanted to spend the rest of the day with you and he wanted to see you old and grey. Sirius was 100% sure that you would look beautiful.
The moment he realized that he froze in shock. You got worried and suggested a glass of water and he was so stunned he just nodded. After a few sips, he said he was fine but needed sleep. He spent the rest of the day lying in bed and looking at the roof, wondering what he would do now.
I feel a kind of fear
When I don't have you near
Unsatisfied, I skip my pride
I beg you dear
The song ended and it took him a few seconds to realize it. Everyone in the common room was cheering enthusiastically, but the only person Sirius cared about at the moment was you. He got off the table and walked over to you, who was still looking at him with confusion and amusement in your eyes. He took your hand and practically dragged you to his dorm. Once there, he made you sit on his bed and closed the door.
"I'm in love with you Y/n," He said, staring at the door, not being able to meet your eyes.
“I meant every word I sang. I've loved you for two years and the war is coming and I can't let anything happen to either of us without telling you that my heart will always belong to you, Y/n/n." He took a deep breath and looked at you, who still was sitting on his bed.
You were extremely surprised. How would you not? Your best friend was confessing his love for you, and you definitely didn't expect that. You were so afraid of hurting him or ruining your friendship, but...
"I love you too," you said. Being unable to stop smiling.
You caught a glimpse of Sirius immediately turning to you and walking towards you until there were only inches keeping you two apart.
"A-are you serious?" He looked so shocked and you felt your heart break for him. Sirius clearly didn't think he was worthy of his love, but you would spend the rest of your days showing him how wonderful he was and how much you adored him.
You stood on tiptoe and kissed him, and Sirius felt himself melt. It took him a few seconds to kiss you back, but when he finally realized what was happening, he cupped your cheek with his left hand and put his right arm around your waist.
Neither of you has ever felt as complete as you do right now, in each other's arms. And you both wanted it to be this way until the end of the times

What Do You Want To Be?
Summary: Sirius has a panic attack that takes a very sweet turn.
Notes: Harry Potter Universe, Sirius Black x gn!reader, modern AU or post-Hogwarts. I got the inspiration for this from a stand-up Netflix special, but I can’t remember the name of it.
Tumblr media
Sirius’s mind worked in a peculiar way. It ran at a million miles a minute no matter the situation, and although sometimes that was a good thing, it often worked against him. The smallest mistake could send his mind down a spiraling drain of anxiety and panic, and despite James, Peter, and Remus’s best efforts, it was difficult to fish him out again. Sometimes, the best thing the boys could do for Sirius was hold his hand and wait it out by his side.
Then, Sirius met Y/N. They were quite good friends from the very beginning (James loved to accuse Y/N of stealing Sirius away from him—all in good fun, of course), but Y/N had never seen Sirius’s descent into his own mind until the two started dating. Sirius had harbored a secret crush on Y/N since only a couple of days after they first met, and, much to his immense delight and utter relief, the feelings were reciprocated.
Now, nearly four years into their relationship, Y/N was the expert in keeping Sirius present and focused, even when his mind was trying to drag him down the drain. (It also helped that Sirius hadn’t had any contact with his mother or father in years, so he was much less prone to panic attacks overall.) James, Peter, and Remus had also gotten a bit better at calming Sirius’s nerves when necessary, but Y/N was still the best at it.
Sirius smiled slightly at the sound of the door unlocking and took another plate from the sink, hoping to load the dishwasher quickly enough to greet her at the door. The sound of the door closing quickly erased that possibility, and Sirius’s shoulders sagged some; though he knew it wasn’t a big deal, he was a little more than disappointed that he wasn’t—
Sirius gasped sharply as arms encircled his waist, his own pulled tight to his chest in a defensive position. The next thing he knew, the plates in his hands were on the ground, shattered, and he was on his knees, apologizing and trying to pick up the pieces with shaky fingers.
“I’m sorry, ‘m sorry, I didn’t mean to—promise, I didn’t mean it—”
“Sirius.” Sirius’s head shook violently back and forth as if trying to shake away the soothing effect Y/N’s voice had on his mind, and apologies continued to spew from his mouth as he cut himself on the pieces’ sharp edges. “Sirius, love—look at me.” With a gentle but firm hand, Y/N held Sirius’s cheek and guided him to look away from the shards of plate in his bloody hands.
“‘M sorry.” Sirius was tearful now as he looked into Y/N’s eyes, but they shook their head gently.
“Don’t panic,” they said simply. “What do you want to be?”
The first time Y/N had said this to Sirius was right after he had awoken from a nightmare. He had run away to the Potters’ house only days before, and James had invited Y/N over, knowing they would want to be with Sirius. The two had only just started dating, and although this aspect to their relationship was new, James was sure that if anything happened, Y/N would be able to calm Sirius with ease. Y/N was still awake when Sirius woke from his nightmare that night, and he barely had time to crawl into their arms before he began to shake and cry uncontrollably. And just as James knew would happen, with two simple sentences, Y/N had calmed Sirius’s mind from a racing whirlwind of anger and fear to a light drizzle of emptiness—an emptiness that was at least partially soothed by their presence.
So on this particular afternoon on the kitchen floor, Sirius’s peculiar mind processed these two sentences very carefully. “Don’t panic” was easy enough; Sirius took a deep (if shaky) breath and forced himself to blink slowly, keeping his eyes on Y/N’s throughout. “What do you want to be?” was a little trickier, but his mind gave him a head start: a good friend, an auror, Harry’s favorite uncle … it was almost like a game, and it distracted his mind perfectly from the panic he was experiencing just seconds ago. And then, his mind threw another answer in his face, and it came flying out of his mouth without his permission.
“Your husband.”
The silence that followed Sirius’s words filled every crevice of the small London apartment. Y/N’s eyes widened slightly, and Sirius’s mind, which had finally quieted for just a moment, began to refill with anxiety.
“Yeah?” Y/N said, and Sirius nodded slowly. They smiled. “C’mon, let’s get you cleaned up, okay?”
Y/N guided Sirius into the bathroom and cleaned his cuts with gentle touches, apologizing each time he winced at the rubbing alcohol. Sirius could scarcely believe what had just occurred. He had just proposed, right? Usually proposals were a surprise to one party involved—sometimes both parties had a sort of “game plan” before it all—but he’d never heard of a proposal that was a surprise for both people, so did this count? He didn’t even have a ring. Should he have gotten one by now?—
“Sirius,” said Y/N, and Sirius looked down at them.
“Yes?” he whispered. They gazed up at him with soft eyes, and the stress that had built up in the last minute or so flowed away yet again. Y/N placed a soft palm on Sirius’s cheek, their other thumb rubbing circles over the bone of his right wrist.
“You feeling any better?” they asked, and Sirius nodded twice. Y/N smiled at that, taking a curl that fell in front of his eyes and smoothing it back. “Did you mean to say that … earlier?” they asked, and for once, Sirius found a hint of anxiety in their eyes instead of his.
Biting his lip, Sirius shrugged. “I mean … I didn’t plan it or anything, and I haven’t got a … a ring, but …” he shrugged again, his eyes falling to Y/N’s where it lay over his bandaged hand. He bit his lip. “But I … I wouldn’t mind, as long as … as long as you’re … happy with it.”
Y/N grinned up at him, light and mischievous. “Do you want to marry me, Sirius Black?” they asked in a teasing tone, and Sirius groaned, leaning forward and burying his face in the crook of their shoulder and neck.
“Don’t tease,” he murmured, lips pressed to Y/N’s collarbone as he spoke.
“Well, you’ve got to give a response to my proposal, Mr. Black,” Y/N responded with a faux-innocent look. “D’you wanna marry me?”
Sirius peered out from his spot on Y/N’s shoulder and nodded, a fierce blush burning over his face. “Yeah, I wanna marry you,” he whispered against their lips, which curled up with a genuine smile.
“We can go down to the courthouse later, if you’d like?” they whispered, and Sirius nodded, pressing a sweet, warm kiss to their lips.

poly!marauders x fem!reader ♡ 847 words
Sirius is trying to follow Remus’ example and focus on the puzzle, but his eyes keep flitting up to you worriedly. You’ve monopolized the couch, laying flat with a hand cast over your eyes and your mouth pinched in obvious discomfort. He’d tried rubbing your calf and Remus had offered you tea, but they’d both given up when the attention only seemed to worsen your mood. Remus suggested they work on the puzzle while you rest (not Sirius’ favorite activity, but forced upon him because it keeps him quiet) and now they’re both simply trying not incur your wrath.
“Quit looking at me,” you growl without opening your eyes.
In Sirius’ case, not doing a very good job.
“Fine, sheesh,” he says, and you press your lips together like you’re restraining yourself from snapping at him.
You cringe when the door opens, every line of you pulling taut. James is all smiles as he tosses his gym bag to the floor with a heavy thump. “Hello, my loves!” His voice is a decibel short of booming, but it softens when he sees you on the couch. “Oh, sorry, is she napping?”
Remus shakes his head, lips pursed as he watches your hand tighten over your eyes. “Headache,” he explains quietly.
“Oh, I’m sorry lovie.” James reroutes from the kitchen, heading for you. Sirius tenses. “How bad is it?”
“Prongs,” Sirius whispers urgently, “don’t—”
But James has already lifted you, one hand under your knees and another supporting your back as he moves you smoothly from your chosen position of rest and into his lap. He makes it look like nothing, which is the first offense (Sirius isn’t sure which of you he’s more jealous of), but the second is that you let him. Sirius and Remus have both looked up in alarm, waiting for a biting protest that doesn’t come. Instead, you remove your hand from your face, burying in it James’ brawny shoulder instead.
“Bad,” you grumble, but your tone lacks the venom you’d spat at Sirius a moment before.
James coos like he’s got a kitten in his lap instead of a viper, bringing his considerable arms around you. His palm cups the back of your neck, kneading gently at the tensed muscles there. “Where does it hurt, darling?”
“Everywhere.”
“By your eyes?”
“No.”
He hums, brows furrowing as he works steadily at your neck. You’ve gone nearly lax in his arms, trusting him to hold you up as you slump against his front. “Have you been drinking water?”
“It’s not that.” Some of the irritation is back in your tone, Sirius notices, but it’s been markedly softened for James. “I had tons of water this morning.”
“Probably a tension headache then, yeah?” He looks to Remus, who nods. The quiet boy looks as dumbstruck as Sirius feels.
James moves his grip to your sides and lifts you again, rearranging his legs to get more comfortable before placing you back in his lap. He places a hand on each side of your head, thumbs pushing into your temples and rubbing in slow, soothing circles. You begin to look like you might fall asleep.
“This is so unfair,” Sirius hisses to Remus.
“He has a power,” Remus admits weakly, “which transcends understanding.”
“Do you want some tea?” James murmurs to you after a while. Sirius’ eyes have gotten stuck watching the movement of his forearms, and he snaps them reluctantly back up.
You hum, uncertain but definitely considering it. Behind you, Remus throws up his hands. James sees him and smiles, shoulders shaking with quiet laughter.
“I’m getting the sense this isn’t the first cup you’ve been offered,” he says, looking immensely entertained.
You sigh, but even that sounds pleasurable as his big thumbs drill diligently into your temples. “Yeah, but I just wanted to be left alone.”
Remus and Sirius exchange a look. You seem perfectly fine with company now.
“Don’t be silly,” James chides lightly, “a warm drink will make you feel better. Remus, love, would you be so kind as to make her a cup?”
“Sure.” His voice is gruff, but then you murmur a quiet thanks, Rem and Sirius actually sees the moment his heart turns to mush. “No problem,” he says, softer now.
“Attagirl.” James’ hand drops to give your shoulder a squeeze, his bicep flexing slightly with the movement. Christ, Sirius might have to fake a headache later, if this is the sort of treatment those receive. “Drink your tea and then we’ll get you to bed, yeah? You can sleep the rest of this off.”
“You know, I offered to carry her to bed earlier,” Sirius says, still slightly bitter, “and she told me very clearly to fuck off.”
You don’t sound so much exasperated now as exhausted. “Siri, when you carrying me doesn’t involve setting me down every five steps for a break, then we’ll talk.”
James’ laugh surprises both of you, and he apologizes hastily for jostling you, pressing a quick kiss to your forehead before resuming his ministrations. You don’t seem all that upset about it.

Hi, i hope youre doing well ☺️
Could i request another part to animagus cat reader where reader cuddles with Remus during winter instead of Sirius because its cold and he runs warmer?? Like he'll be in the common room reading in an arm chair while reader catnaps on his lap while being pet and Sirius tells him to stop stealing his gf and James is jealous/whiny that he doesnt get to have cat snuggles.
part 1 / part 2
--
Despite the two blankets layered in an inviting nest on Sirius's lap, Remus is the warmest person in the room. The fire crackes on its logs, offering scorching heat, but what you seek is gentle warmth, and you've found it between Remus's sweater and his undershirt. You're splayed over his chest much like a baby would be, your paws stretched out against his shoulders and your head pressed face-first into his chest. His sweater is tight enough that it holds you in place, and you don't have to worry about falling. It means that you're able to fully relax, and Sirius can hear your rampant purring from where he sits on the couch with a sour scowl on his face.
"If you just wore warmer clothes, you wouldn't be pissy right now," Remus muses, not bothering to grace the man with a glance away from his novel, "She only likes me 'cause my sweater is warm."
That's not entirely true. While Remus does tend to dress for comfort, and Sirius for style, Remus runs naturally hotter than your boyfriend. You don't have the heart to tell him that, though, so you mewl in agreement to Remus's statement.
"Sweaters are dumb," Sirius spits, and no one bothers to mention that he has a small collection of them for the snowy days on the grounds, "I look better in leather."
"Your loss," Remus shrugs, and to add insult to injury, reaches up to scratch a spot behind your ears that only makes your purring louder.
"This is bullshit," Sirius finally huffs, breaking his facade of gloomy indifference, "Prongs, get over here."
James, all too eager to help out his friend and soak up affection to boot, has no problem tipping over sideways to lay in Sirius's lap.
But the man lifts James's head out of his lap by his curls, "No, no, no, not James. Prongs."
"You want me to-?" James asks, but doesn't dare finish, because the prospect of transforming right in the common room sends a shiver of mischief down his spine that he'd be a fool to question, "On it."
"Yeah. Yeah, yeah," Sirius nods, sneering haughtily at Remus, "You're not the only one that's good for a cuddle, Moony. Look at this," He gushes, as James begins his transformation, skin giving way to tight, short fur and enormous antlers that nearly grate against the stone walls around you.
"Oh, he's a perfect fit." Remus nods resignedly, content to continue rubbing at your ears rather than chastise his friends for trying to fit a stag on a loveseat, "Yeah, that'll work nicely- ooh, careful Sirius, almost got stabbed there."
Sirius dodges a prong off of James's antlers, taking them in his hands and holding James's head steady as the oversized buck folds his knobbly knees into Sirius's lap. The back two can't make it, but James fits them clumsily onto the cushion, maintaining his balance out of dramatic willpower rather than the laws of physics.
You decide once they settle that they're no longer in need of your attention, so you turn your head back towards Remus and burrow your face back into his warm chest. You feel it shake with mirth beneath you, presumably at an overdramatized reaction from the two boys opposite you, but you can't bring yourself to care; sleep is at the forefront of your brain in this form.
"Yeah, get real cozy!" Sirius insists, calling so that you can hear him through Remus's thick sweater and beneath the weight of his hand on your ears, "Whatever! We're cozy over here, too, 'never been more comfortable- ah! Prongs, watch the hooves!"

Amortentia (Jegulus)
Regulus didn’t smell. It drove James insane sometimes.
He didn’t smell after quidditch practice, or even after just waking up. It was another one of those things about him that made him seem “perfect”. James hated it.
Regulus was so much more than the image he presented himself to be, but he’d gotten too lost in playing the part, maybe that’s all he’d become.
Every single “imperfection” had been driven away by his mother. Not just for Regulus, but for Sirius as well. The Black family had an image to maintain, high society they had to live in. They couldn’t accept body odor, crooked teeth, or any blemishes on their skin.
James didn’t know how they did it. But none of the Blacks had any negative body odor. No matter how much they sweat.
It’s not to say they don’t have a particular smell. According to Slughorn, everyone had a distinct smell, something unique about them.
Sirius smelled like wet dog fur, James knew this because he slept in the bed next to him and every night Sirius turned to padfoot in his sleep.
Narcissa smelled like spring, like her namesake— narcissus. Strangely intense, yet cool and floral. James had only placed the smell last year when they had grown the flower in herbology.
Walburga black smelled like roses, James imagined that’s what the queen of hearts from Alice in Wonderland smelled like. It was suffocating if you had the displeasure to be near her, like a thousand thorny plants squeezing your windpipe.
James wasn’t padfoot, he didn’t memorize smells. But it’s hard not to notice how his closest friends smell. It made him feel warm, to be surrounded by so many people he loves, all with a distinct smell.
Remus smelled like chocolate, like wet fur, wooly sweaters, a warm fire and old books. James could tell that’s what Sirius was smelling in his cauldron right then. That’s the reason he was thinking so much about smells in the first place.
Sixth year brought with it responsibilities, but also more advanced potion making. James always wondered why he didn’t drop potions when he had the chance.
Sirius was blushing so hard, his skin tone matched the pink potion. James had to stifle his own laughter as Remus tried to go over the recipe once again to make sure they had made it correct. They were all paired up for this particular class. Sirius and Remus at one cauldron and James and Peter next to them. It used to be Sirius and James together, but after one too many pranks in the classroom, Professor Slughorn had separated them.
“Clockwise!” Remus corrected Sirius just before he could have ruined their potion. They were the second ones to finish their potion so Slughorn was already making his way towards the boys. “Bloody hell, Sirius. Stop overmixing it”
James exchanged a look with Peter. Why had he let Sirius pick Remus while pairing up again? Oh that’s right— Wingman duties
James was nowhere near as great as Lily or Remus or even Snivellus in potion making, but he managed. Mostly he used Remus’ notes and applied common sense. It drove Remus insane sometimes, how much work he’d have to put in to memorize something, only for James to make an educated guess about it. James couldn’t really explain how he knew stuff, he just did. Call it pattern awareness, or whatever.
“So from the way Moony was yelling at Padfoot, I’m guessing we have to stir it clockwise?” James raised an eyebrow.
Peter only snickered as he watched their other two friends bickering like an old married couple. “What’d you think Moony smells, James?”
“Wet dog” James replied easily, “And that awful old leather jacket Padfoot refuses to throw away,”
“I bet Sirius smells chocolate and wool”
James had known Peter for years, they'd had baths together when they were babies, learned how to ride a bicycle from James’ father, spent ten christmases trying to make gingerbread houses and so many more memories.
That’s all to say, James knew what Peter smelled like. He had a distinct cologne he swore worked wonders on the ladies, and as stereotypical as it was for the rat to love cheese, he really did.
So if James was in love with his best mate, that’s what he would have smelled.
But instead when he dared to take a whiff of the potion (after coughing violently because it was pretty strong), all he smelled was broom wax, old books and paint.
“Mmmhmm” Peter grinned, “Camembert, and candy. Smells so great I’m hungry now. And you?”
“Old books” He frowned, “And paint”
“Careful, Pads might think you’re in love with Moony too”
James wasn’t sure what he was expecting. He was glad he didn’t smell lilies, relating to his old embarrassing crush. It had been months since he had obsessed over Lily Evans and even thinking about that time made him cringe.
James had quickly realized he had no idea what love was supposed to be. He grew up watching his parents so immensely in love he’d been in love with the idea of love and the idea of Lily Evans. And ideas are dangerous things to be in love with.
For his sake and Lily’s, he was glad he stopped liking her.
But after Lily… well, there had been someone James had grown a liking too. And he couldn’t help the disappointment when he didn’t smell Regulus in the potion. He took a few more whiffs, just to be sure. But to no avail. The potion still smelled the same.
James wasn’t sure why it bothered him so much. Maybe he was just incapable of loving. Because he couldn’t smell Regulus, that had to mean he wasn’t in love with the boy as he had previously thought. This was clearly a Lily situation again. And that bothered James. Mainly because he wanted to be in love. Not just because of his fantasy of being so in love with someone, but also because Regulus was so lovely.
He was witty and sharp, beautiful and sarcastic, knowledgeable and petty, headstrong and stubborn but also sweet and funny. He seemed to positively glow under James’ praise. James loved it when he flushed pink, James loved it when he shot back a retort, when he smiled a secret smile for only James, when he dragged his long fingers over James’ skin— touch for the sake of touch. James loved every single thing about Regulus, the way his eyes crinkled when he tried to stop himself from laughing at one of James’ bad jokes, the way he sneezed, the way his lips parted, the way he tasted so sweet when they kissed, but most of all, James thought he was in love with Regulus.
He wasn’t sure what smell he was searching for. He knew Regulus didn’t smell. He didn’t have a signature smell like Peter’s cologne. But James was still disappointed.
He wanted to make Regulus feel loved, he wanted to be in love. He had said it once and Regulus had said it before.
Three simple words.
And what if they were a lie?
A knock on the door made Slughorn change directions. He had been heading toward James and Peter’s potion to check it, but he walked toward the open door.
James would have recognised those curls anywhere.
Even before Regulus was fully visible, stepping into the doorway, eyes searching the class, James was grinning. Who cared what the stupid potion said? The potion could be wrong. Maybe James and Peter brewed it wrong.
All that mattered was that Regulus lit up James’ world, it genuinely felt that way. Just passing him in the hallways, getting to stare at him as he stared at the stars, just listening to him talk about astronomy or his favorite paintings felt like a reward to James.
So yeah, fuck the potion.
James Potter was in love with Regulus Black.
That’s when he spotted the paint splattered on the edges of his otherwise neat robe. He was handing a book he must have borrowed back to Slughorn. His eyes landed on James and though he tried to keep his composure in thanking the professor, James grew ecstatic at the acknowledgement.
The effect Regulus had on him really had to be studied.
Just before he left, he sniffed the room, his eyebrows furrowing in that Regulus Black way as he mock glared at James. He had the face of an aristocrat but the mind of an artist. Maybe he was both.
James was thankful his table was the closest to the door and the others were too busy either bickering, fawning over their potion or still completing it.
“You smell, Potter” Regulus scrunched his nose in disgust, turning to walk away, “Didn’t you shower after quidditch? It’s disgusting, it’s a wonder the whole room isn’t gagging with how strong it is, even your sandalwood perfume can’t mask it.”
James could barely say anything before Regulus had walked away.
Paint splatter, the old books in the room of requirement and Regulus’ personal collection, the broom wax from when James had watched him polish his broom before a match against Hufflepuff.
Slowly the pieces floated together and James thought he had started floating too. He felt light, like a floating lantern, a ball of warmth in his chest.
And what had Regulus been talking about? James twisted his ankle his last game. Madam Pomfrey hadn’t cleared him to fly the whole week, he had been moping about not being able to play.
When he looked at Peter, his friend was looking back with an amused look.
“Fucking hell, Prongs”
“Don’t tell Padfoot”

“Think they’ll remember us when we’re gone?”
There’s a voice to your side, one sound reminding you that you’re not alone in this world. It’s hard to believe otherwise, the night is so dark that you can scarcely see your own hand in front of your face, but the voice is a strong enough anchor to drag you out of even the deepest of seas. There are few people who have such a powerful hold on you, but then again, it shouldn’t really come as a surprise that Sirius Black is one of them.
He’s grinning at you now, you can see him cloaked in the few beams of moonlight daring to stray across your path at such an hour. Perhaps the crescent of white up ahead of you is ashamed of all the trouble you’d cause if she dared give you even a little more light, but just like you, she’s still unable to leave Sirius alone. Even in the dark, all finds him somehow, even the most reluctant of moonbeams.
That’s how it is to be around Sirius Black, after all, like being dragged into a whirlpool labeled with his name in messy scrawl. You don’t remember if you’d originally set out to be Sirius’ friend when you first arrived at Hogwarts, but staying away from him is a losing game, it always has been.
There is nobody at your school that could possibly leave Sirius be, nobody that matters. Even if they try to fight it, they’ll still end up around him, perhaps as an enemy or just a jealous watcher. Sirius is like nothing you’ve ever seen before, nor will you ever see again. Some part of you wonders how you’ll survive once you graduate, if leaving him behind will kill you once and for all. You’re almost certain that it will, which is why nights like tonight matter so much.
After all, graduation looms just around the corner, scarcely a few months away. It should scare you, you think, that after all these years kept safely in school you’ll have to brave the wild world outside the castle gates. In part, it does, but it also just seems like yet another game to play. That’s how this whole scene works, after all, it’s a damned game. That’s what Sirius taught you, but you taught him how to win.
Looking back on it, you’d certainly say that you’ve won. There’s hardly a person around here that doesn’t know your name, whether that’s for academic exploits or friendly hijinks. You’ve been a Marauder since the second you heard the title, and you can’t imagine a life without it, or without Sirius.
You can comfortably say that the Marauders would stay at their full power even if it was just you and Sirius fucking up the school by yourselves. In fact, you might even be worse than you are now. When you’re with Sirius, the brakes are nowhere in sight. The two of you go and go until the whole world lights up with flames, and even then, you just delight in the bright lights until your senses burn away.
That’s why the two of you are here now, after all, having snuck out of your dorms without even having to alert the other that the rendezvous would happen. You know Sirius like the back of your hand, and all it took was one look out your window at such a wonderful night to know instinctively that he would be out. You met him descending the staircase at the exact same time as you. His face had lit up in a moon-bright grin, and all thoughts of possible punishment for being out of bed after curfew had fled, if they’d ever been there at all.
It’ll drag you down eventually, you think, the rest of the world’s rules. You’ve been playing the game as you pleased for far too long, Sirius always by your side. He is a dizzying rush, your favorite boy, but all the best things come to an end eventually.
Sirius can feel it too, that’s why he’s asking you such a question. You turn over to look at him, and notice a furrow in his brow for the first time in quite a while. Usually, whenever he’s with you, Sirius can’t spare a second for his troubles. It seems as if tonight is the exception.
“Of course they’ll remember us, Sirius, we’ve made it quite hard to do anything else. If worst comes to worst, they’ll still see the cracks in the third floor tower and wonder who could have done such a thing, even without names to go with it.”
Sirius chuckles on instinct, remembering that day from long ago. The goal has always been to have pranks that aren’t quite so destructive, but that one had been an exception. No one had been hurt, but the third floor tower now looks like a grandmother with far too many wrinkles.
His face settles eventually, though, and you realize that he’s being honest. “It matters though, doesn’t it, to have our legacies stick around? I can’t imagine that we’ve spent all these years here just to disappear into history without a second thought.”
The two of you have been lying on the roof for quite some time, having snuck out of your dorms together. Sirius sits up now, dark hair settling back around his jawline. The moonlight doesn’t stick to him quite as well, but the shadows stay.
You sigh contemplatively and sit up as well. “It’s hard to judge that sort of thing. We’ll tell the stories if we have to, won’t we? Besides, Sirius, you’re not exactly the kind of person that people forget.”
It’s a little more true than you’d meant to say at such a late hour, but even in the dark Sirius still looks at you as if you’re all he’s ever needed, and it’s hard to keep your tone light in the face of such admiration. He seems pleased by it, anyway, if that’s any indication that you’re not messing up.
He cocks his head to the side, and you swear you can see his usual confidence collecting around him once more, covering up the seams and gaps that he’s always so careful to hide.
“What’s that mean, Y/N? You think I’m famous?” He asks.
You laugh, and Sirius lets his eyes flicker shut to best hear the sound ring around him. “Oh, that was never a question. I just mean that you’re good at all of this, you know. You’ve got your part and you play it. I don’t know how you manage to stay so delighted with life every day. ‘Course, I know you’re faking it half the time, but no one else does. How do you do it?”
Sirius climbs carefully over to you until you’re side by side again. The tower roof is cold this time of night, the lack of moonlight drenching you in chill, and you can’t help but lean closer to him for any kind of heat. Sirius notices, he always seems to pick up on your every movement. He takes the school robe off of his back without a second thought, draping it between the two of you.
His eyes still remain on you, and up close you’re able to see how quiet his entire face seems. It’s a treat to witness Sirius like this, when he’s not playacting as a constant entertainer. There is another boy deep within the facade, the kind of soul who’s sharper than a blade but never cuts you, who would spend the rest of his days with his friends if he wasn’t so worried that they’d tire of him. Appearance are everything to Sirius, he learned that from a young age, but all that’s taught you is how valuable it is to see him with all walls down.
“You,” he says simply, and you frown, confused.
“What do you mean?” You ask.
Sirius almost smiles, the corners of his lips fighting the urge to tug themselves up. “The reason I’m able to stay so vivacious all the time, it’s you. You make me feel alive, sweetheart. I thought that was obvious.”
You’re grateful for the dark, as it will hopefully cover up the heat currently rushing to your cheeks. The problem with forever being Sirius Black’s partner in crime is that it makes it awfully hard to stay impartial to his charms, especially when he does things like insist on trying out all of his pickup lines on you. You’ve been loving him for quite some time, even in the midst of exams and stress and pranks, but you’ve never dreamed that he could feel the same way.
After all, how could he? Half of Sirius’ allure is that he seems to be made of pure glass, all dazzling edges with absolutely nothing behind it. There’s a reason he was able to introduce you to the game of life, after all, he’s been playing it since the day he was born. Sirius has always been a contestant, the perfect actor. He is a perfect storm sweeping your sunny skies into ruin, but it’s always been a hair too perfect.
You’ve constantly been doubting yourself, reading too much into every line and hoping against hope that the smiles he shoots your way are anything other than practice. With each day’s heartbreak, however, you’ve learned to keep your skin thick. That means you’re afraid to take his words at face value, so you continue the act a little longer, just as you always do.
“I make you feel alive? That’s a dashing compliment, Sirius, but I’m looking for actual answers. Caffeine keeps James alive, for example, and sneaking out after hours works for me. What’s your secret?” You keep your tone neutral, allowing not a shred of hope be seen. It wouldn’t work for Sirius’ grand play, would it?
This rooftop must be messing with his head just as much as yours, though. When it’s the two of you, you’re never sure if he’s being real or just continuing the stage a little longer, but you swear that Sirius’ gaze is more true than you’ve ever seen.
“I’m being honest, Y/N.” Sirius rakes a hand through his hair, dislodging the raven strands yet again. His eyes are just as dark, but tonight they keep enough of the moonlight tucked away inside that you can see everything he’s begging you to understand.
You shiver slightly, and he pulls you closer to him. “Alright, then. I make you feel alive. Is it just my wonderful sense of humor? My incorrigible charm?”
Sirius grins in spite of himself. “I’d go for the fact that you’re the only one who really matters to me. No one else looks at the darkest night of the year and immediately thinks of me, you know. Not even James knows half as many of my habits as you.”
You can’t help feeling like you’ve passed some sort of test, or been able to achieve yet another rank in Sirius’ grand game. “You’re easy enough to know, Sirius. When you’re not doing your best to hide yourself away, that is.”
Arrested by some sort of impulse, Sirius stands, tugging you up with him. The wind has whipped against his cheeks, you notice, leaving them tinged with pink. Your fingers twitch at your sides, wanting nothing more than to brush your knuckles against his face and find out for certain whether it’s just as warm as yours seems to be.
His grin is just as electric as always. “See, that’s what I’m talking about. No one looks as hard as you do. No one ever has.”
Your breath catches in your throat. He’s trying to tell you something, you’re certain of it. It’s just that Sirius is how he has always been, never one to commit fully to a sentiment unless he’s certain that it will land just as he wishes it. That’s why he’s dragged you up here, isn’t it? So the two of you could be alone just before graduation and he could see if his hopes were just as real as yours.
“Your question earlier. You don’t care about the rest of the world, do you?” You breathe.
Sirius nods. Another successful turn, although the end of the game is getting closer, you can sense it. At any moment, he’ll play his ace. “Only you, love. Only you.”
You reach out and take his hand. It fits within yours perfectly, as if it were made only for you to hold it. After all these years, it feels like a conclusion written ages ago, the end to both of your stories, the one you’ve been waiting on for all eternity.
“It’s the same way for me, you know,” you manage, “I won’t ever forget you, Sirius Black. Just don’t give me a reason I could. Don’t you dare leave me lonely after we leave this school for good.”
Sirius’ eyes sparkle with hope. “Only if you’ll let me. They warned me about this, you know. I wasn’t supposed to tell you how I felt until after we graduated. No one dared mess up the Marauders, even with something as crushing as the fact that I loved you.”
You laugh at last, feeling your heart skip several beats. There’s the confession, there’s the twist you’ve been promised for so long. “The friend group will be fine, Sirius. I’m not letting anything come between the two of us.”
Sirius smiles too, although judging by the assuredness in which he swoops forward and presses a kiss to your forehead, he’s been wanting to do a lot more for a lot longer.
“We have all the time in the world, don’t we? Even after we leave.” He says.
You lean into him, then turn your head slightly so you can look out at the hills and dales of the landscape unrolling before you. The first strands of dawn are beginning to thread through the sky, weaving a new picture of bright colors and best promises.
“That we do. We still have just enough time here for something special, though. So what do you say, Sirius? Shall we rock their worlds one last time?”
Sirius considers the sprawling grounds of the school beneath your feet, then twirls you lazily with your connected hands before kissing you once more. “I believe we shall. One more run, my love, and then we have the rest of time.”
Standing so close to Sirius with the weight of all your confessions keeping you warm, you don’t feel the chill of the night anymore, nor the ever pressing darkness. For once, you’re calm. The future has nothing to do but welcome you in. You can’t wait to see what happens now that you know that Sirius will stay by your side.

18+ readers only (smut under the cut)
December, 31st 1980
You placed a drop of your perfume over your wrist, you knew how much Sirius liked it when you wore it, but to be fair, the smell made you relish just as much as it made him. You used your fingers to spread some over your chest and neck, placing a little behind your ears as well. Then you grabbed your lipstick from your vanity and started to softly dab on your lips with it.
You were getting ready for the New Year’s party with the Potters, Lily and James had arranged it for everyone. Remus would be there, Peter and Mary and Marlene too.
Baby Harry was turning 5 months, and you were more than excited to see him again, with the war, you couldn’t afford visiting as often as you’d like, especially after you’d all become objectives for openly defying Voldemort and creating the Order of the Phoenix alongside Dumbledore. You all had targets on your back, so you had to be extra careful with your every move, but even then, even with all the pressure on your shoulders, you were eagerly anticipating seeing all your friends together again.
Sirius came out of the bathroom wearing a burgundy shirt and a patterned vest, his long hair framing his clean-shaven face, looking as beautiful as ever. “You look ravishing,” he said as he saw you sitting in front of your mirror, then walking closer to you and leaning down to place a kiss on your cheek, but he stopped there, relishing on the scent of your perfume. “And you’re wearing that perfume I like,” he said with a raised eyebrow, “intoxicating.”
He leaned into you and placed a soft kiss on your neck, you playfully and gently pushed him back before he started something neither of you’d be able to stop “We’re not going to arrive on time if you do that, Puppy.”
He pouted and finally stood up straight, “We can always be fashionably late,” he said eccentrically, you gave him a reproaching look and he finally surrendered, allowing you to finish your make-up.
Once you were done, you stood up, straightening your dress, a satin sheet, strategically sewn on the side and back that seamlessly draped over your body, loose and elegant all at the same time. You felt two strong arms hug you from behind, feeling Sirius’ velvet coat brush over your bare back. He leaned in, enjoying how the scent of your perfume had combined with your own by now. “Can’t we just stay here?,” he said as he hugged you even tighter “I want you all for myself.”
You turned to him and planted a chaste kiss on his lips, using your thumb to wipe them after, since some of your lipstick had transferred over. He delighted in the feeling of your thumb brushing over his lips, and you almost went for another kiss when you saw the way his lustfully went back to their place, but you restrained yourself yet again, taking your brain away from Sirius and thinking of baby Harry and how much you wanted to play with him, lathering kisses on his soft checks rather than on Sirius’ lascivious lips.
“We should go,” you told him, resting your hand on his shoulder with a smile. He nodded and the two of you apparated outside of the Potter Household.
Godric Hollow was buzzing with activity when you arrived, children were playing on the snow, the faint scent of snowflakes still ringing in the air. The lights of the Christmas tree flickered joyously from the city square. The scent of gingerbread, cinnamon-spiced hot chocolate, and roasted chestnuts wafted from the cozy cafes and bakeries, in the area. As you walked with Sirius you decided to stop by one of them and purchase some gingerbread cookies for Harry, who you knew absolutely loved playing with the little gingerbread people before munching on them with his very small, barely coming out teeth.
When you both arrived at the door, Sirius knocked, being received by Lily, looking beautiful and bright while wearing a royal blue gown. You gave her a tight hug the moment you saw her, not wanting to let go for a while, Sirius hugged her next.
“Where is my beautiful godson?” You asked after.
“In the living room, we brought his crib out, so he can be comfortable,” Lily responded. And so you rushed inside, with Sirius and Lily trailing behind, the scent of Christmas times enveloped you. The savoury smell of freshly baked goods, such as buttery mince pies and spiced cinnamon cookies, mingled with hints of mulled cider and aromatic pine from the adorned Christmas tree in the corner flled with stunning ornaments Lily had collected through the years. The one you and Sirius had bought for her as a gift a couple of weeks ago was already hanging from one of the the tall tree’s branches.
Harry was indeed there, and you ran towards him, and carried him “Hello, love!” You told him with a smile, “How’ve you been? Did you like all your Christmas presents?” Harry, being 5 months old, obviously did not reply, but he cooed happily as you pattered kisses all over his cheeks.
“Hey James, How are you? –Oh, hey (Y/N), I’m great, long time no see,” James mocked from the bar that connected the kitchen with the living room "I've been demoted to second place by a pint-sized tyrant," he grumbled, his ego bruised after you went to greet Harry before you greeted him “And he can’t even respond to you!”
You laughed and approached him, while still carrying Harry in your arms, giving him a right hug “Sorry James, the cutest boy gets greeting first,” you teased.
He gave you a playfully offended look, as he turned to complain to Lily, but he spotted Sirius and the two of them pretty much ran to each other for a hug.
“Love of my life you’re here!” James exclaimed dramatically.
“Of course I am,” Sirius responded “I wouldn’t dream of depriving myself the opportunity to see you.”
You turned to Lily and whispered with a mischievous grin on your face “Can you believe they chose to date us over each other?”
“Hard to believe, I know,” she replied as the two of them walked together towards the sofa. The doorbell rang again and you walked with Lily to open it, Remus was at the door, carrying a carton box with a cake inside. He grinned when he saw the two and after putting down the cake on the foyer table, pulled both of you into a tight hug. There was another ring of the doorbell while he hugged and both Mary and Marlene appeared on the door. Mary with a bag filled with gifts for everyone, since she had been away on Christmas, and Marlene with a small stuffed, and pretty soft quaffle under her arm, yet another gift for Harry, who grabbed it the instant he saw it and started turning it around in his little hands.
Once the greetings were over, you all walked back into the living room, and while James and Sirius greeted everyone, you went for the packet of gingerbread men you’d bought for Harry and started to play with him on the living room rug, hearing the peaceful crackling fire behind you.
“Starshine,” you heard Sirius whine from behind “Can’t you leave little Harry alone and come pamper me instead?” You turned to him with a hand still placed on Harry’s back, he had his arms opened up for you “I’m sure Marlene’s dying to get to play with him too.”
You raised an eyebrow, Sirius was awfully needy today, and you knew how he could get if you ignored him, even more, needy and whiny, so you turned to Marlene, she nodded and extend her hands for you to pass Harry over to her. You did, and as soon as he was out of your hands, Sirius grabbed for your arm and pulled you onto his lap. You giggled once you were comfortably sitting on him.
Lily came from the kitchen a bit later with a tray filled with sausage rolls and some Yorkshire pudding. You attempted to stand up to help her but Sirius tightened his grip around your waist, pulling you closer to him “Please don’t go Love.”
You turned to him and grabbed his head in between your arms, pulling him in for a short kiss.
“Uhhh, Get a room!” You heard James say from the side of the couch.
“As if you and Lily were any better,” Remus retorted.
James's eyes flew open, brimming with surprise “Take that back Moony!” he asserted, his accusing finger aimed directly at the werewolf “We’re not like that! Are we love?” He asked turning to Lily, who was gracefully arranging the food on the center table.
She giggled in response, “James when you’re clingy, you’re even worse than Sirius.”
“I’m not that bad…” you heard Sirius grumble from behind, feeling his hot breath on your back.
“In fact,” continued Lily, “When we started dating, you literally wouldn’t let me walk anywhere by myself. And you always had to have some sort of contact with me, be it holding hands, hugging me, wrapping your arms around my shoulders, grabbing my–“
“-OK!” James interrupted “I get it, I get it, I can be very clingy too.”
“But they don’t even know how good you smell,” Sirius mumbled from behind again.
The doorbell rang one last time and James went to get it, coming back with Peter, holding a box filled with cupcakes his mom had prepared. You used your want to levitate one of the sausage rolls towards your hands and gave it a bit, moaning at the flavour and letting your head fall over Sirius’ shoulder, holding the snack towards Sirius’ mouth who ate the rest.
“These are absolutely exquisite,” You said to Lily, who was sitting on an armchair next to Mary.
“James made them, actually,” she responded.
You rose your eyebrows in surprise “Didn’t know he could cook.”
“Hey!” James said shoving you gently with his arm “I’m gonna start counting your strikes.” You shrugged and pulled your tongue out. “That’s it, you’re banned from eating any more sausage rolls.”
“James,” Lily reproached.
“Fine then, not banned but still, Sirius tell your girl to behave.”
Sirius rose his eyebrows towards James “You expect her to listen to me, or what? She’s not a dog!”
“Right, we all know who is the dog in the relationship,” teased Remus, which only earned him a scornful look from Sirius.
“Can we eat?” Asked Peter from his own armchair “I’m kind of starving, Mom didn’t let me have anything from the things she made.”
“We should, shouldn’t we?” James said and stood up, with a swish of his wand a bunch of plates came from the kitchen and started accommodating themselves carefully on the table. “I’ll go get the Roast Beef,” he stood up and turned to his wife “Lily, Love, would you mind helping me with the mashed potatoes?” She nodded and the two of them left for the kitchen.
“Come on,” You nudged Sirius, “Let’s get some food in our stomachs.”
She took one more sniff of you and nodded, loosening his grip and allowing you to stand up. As you walked towards the kitchen Remus approached your boyfriend. Sirius was still staring at you “Mate, I know you love her, but please stop undressing her with your stare, she’s gonna catch a cold.”
“But she’s so pretty Moony!” Sirius whined “I just want to be beside her all the time. I always do, but when she smells so heavenly, like today, it’s like I can’t–“
Remus placed a hand over his shoulder, “Enjoy the dinner mate, you’ll have her all for yourself when you get back home.”
“Right, I really do feel sometimes I’m more dog than man.”
Remus chuckled at that and walked with Sirius to the table. He sat on the chair beside yours, as you poured some champagne over your glasses placing his hand over your leg, to keep some kind of contact between the two.
“Friends, as we bid farewell to another year and welcome the promising embrace of a fresh one, I stand before you tonight with a heart full of gratitude and hope. This particular New Year's Eve holds an extraordinary significance for me, as I find myself in the joyous role of a husband and a father. I had the privilege of marrying the love go my life, Lily, and with her, we created a little bundle of mischief named Harry,” he pointed at them “We did that!” He said with a very excited smile.
“Tonight, as we raise our glasses to toast the arrival of a new year, let us also take a moment to reflect on the power of love and family” he then turned to look at us “Sirius, Remus, Peter, thank you for always being there, for helping us protect our beautiful boy, and the future world he’ll be a part of, Hopefully, a better one. (Y/N), Marlene, Mary, I could not ask for better friends, no–“ he corrected “–I couldn’t have asked for a better family.
“In a time when darkness may try to cast its shadow, we have the power to ignite the flames of hope, compassion, and unity. Life is a fleeting thing, we’ve lost so many friends the past year, let us cherish the simple joys, the laughter shared, and the bonds that deepen with each passing day. So… as we embark on this new year, hand in hand, let us embrace the future with courage, determination, and mischief. Together, we will make it a year filled with love, laughter, and endless possibilities!"
Finally, he raised his cup “To all of you, dear friends, I raise my glass and say, Cheers to a new year of joy, love, and endless possibilities!"
You all cheered and chimed your cups together, enjoying the dinner as you chatted. It felt like being back in school, everyone was there, and everyone was happy. Laughter filled the Potter’s house like it hadn’t done in a while, and for a whisper in time, everyone was happy.
When you were done you moved back to the sofa, Sirius walked towards James’ records and sat down, trying to pick one of them to play. You crouched next to him “A day at the races,” you told him, nodding a the black record with the swan and the lions. He raised an eyebrow, you instantly knew he was asking if you were sure and nodded.
He shrugged and fetched it from the shelf, standing up to put it on the record player. Tie your mother down started to play and you smiled with the first sound of the guitar. Sirius walked over to you and offered you his hand, he wanted to dance, you grabbed it and decided to humour him, saying your hips at the rhythm of the song. James and Lily stood up and started to dance as well, Harry has already fallen asleep and was soundly laying in his crib.
Soon Mary stood up and pulled Marlene and Remus into the dance floor, Peter stood up shortly after and everyone was dancing on your improvised dance floor. Then the next song came, Freddie’s voice filling the room along with the background choir. You closed the gap between you and Sirius and placed your hands over his shoulders, and leaned in to whisper the lyrics to him, singing along the recorder “You’ve captured my love, stolen my heart, changed my life.”
Now he whispered into your ears “Every time you make a move, you destroy my mind, And the way you touch, I shiver deep inside and...”
The two of you pulled back and stared at each other with absolute adoration “You take my breath away,” you both murmured. You blushed and leaned back into his neck to hide your blush, so many years together and he still made you blush like a teenager.
“It’s time,” said Lily, taking little Harry from the crib and walking outside with everyone behind them. You heard the first chime from the church’s bell, and you smiled. When the twelfth chime came, you all raised your wands, letting sparks fly up into the sky, they looked like fireworks. James’ had drawn his and Lily’s initials inside a heart. Remus’ exploded in thousands of tiny little sparkles, yours was a star, mirroring Sirius.
“Starshine,” he said looking at the sky with a smile, you pulled his face towards you and finally gave him the kiss you’d been wanting to give him since you saw him come out of the closet.
You stayed at the party for a couple more hours drinking some wine and spending some quality time with your friends. Mary told you about the trip she’d done for Christmas, Remus about his plans to become a teacher one day, and you talked and talked until everyone was happy. At around 3, Harry started to cry and Lily excused herself to go check on him, you took the moment to signal to Sirius, who was still talking with James and Remus that it was time to go home. You bid your goodbyes to everyone and walked outside the house, grabbing his hands before apparating back into your shared apartment.
The moment you stepped inside, Sirius hugged you from behind, burrowing his head in your neck "I’ve been waiting for this moment all night," he mumbled.
"Have you? I thought you were having fun with the love of your life," you teased.
"I wanted to have you all for myself," he responded, his head still borrowed in your neck "and even if James was the love of my life, you would be my life itself."
You blushed, turning around to face him "Sirius, my love, what’s got you so clingy?"
"I want to spend every moment of my life with my best girl," he said placing a kiss on your cheek "I don’t want to be away from you," another kiss "All I want is for moments like this to last forever,” another kiss, he was now in your neck "is it too much to ask the universe to grant?"
You grabbed his head, turning it towards yours, so you could stare into his eyes, the prettiest eyes in the world "It is not my love, what you ask, will be granted," you reassured, and brought your lips together.
It started soft, but Sirius’ hunger got in the way, deepening the kiss. You followed along his lead, Sirius had been dying to have you all night, and you’d been dying to take off his coat the moment he showed up with it. You urgently helped him take his jacket off, discarding it somewhere on the floor and moved to unbutton his vest. He stopped kissing you just to give you a teasing grin "And here I thought I was the only needy one."
You ignored his remark and brought his lips back to yours, soft, lustful lips, you wanted to drown in them. Sirius pulled you from the floor and you wrapped your legs around his waist, feeling a familiar hardness in his pants. Now you stopped the kiss to tease him "but all we’ve done is kiss."
He grabbed your chin, forcing your face to the side to gain access to your neck “I’ve been waiting for this moment since I smelled you putting on your sexy little perfume from the bathroom," he said in between kisses. With you still wrapped around his torso he apparated the two of you back in your room, gently dropping you on the bed. You sat back and helped him unbutton his shirt, and when you did, he pushed you back down on the bed, extending your right arm and kissing your wrist "You know how crazy this perfume makes me for you," he kissed the inside of your forearm now, relishing on the smell of sweat and perfume and you. "And you decided to torture me,” more kisses, each time moving further up you arm, his long hair tickling your skin every time he moved "all." kiss "night," another kiss "long." Finally he moved from your shoulder to your neck, placing wet kisses all over you. "How would you feel I did the same to you?"
"I’m sorry," you said, breath sharp, Sirius’ kisses were something else entirely "I just wanted you to want me tonight."
He chuckled as he placed a few kisses on your chest "Love, I want you every night."
As he kissed you again and again, he placed his hand on one of your thighs, causing the dress to ride up along with his ever-sliding hand, as he continued to kiss, He squeezed and played with your leg until you buckled your hips, a clear signal you wanted more. He grinned, he loved the effect he had on you, as much as you loved the effect you had on him. His bulge only ever growing larger.
"Help me with this love, please," he said as he pushed the dress up your tights and all the way to your stomach, you arched your back and allowed him to handle you around until he managed to completely lift it off of you, discarding it somewhere on the floor near the bed. As the cool air hit your torso you took in a sharp breath, Sirius, on the other hand, was more than enjoying the view, as he got to see how your nipples perked, just for him. With one hand on your waist, and the other one on your breast, he went back to kissing, trailing down all the way to your free nipple and nibbling on it, he was enjoying himself.
You buckled your hips against his again, "Please Sirius!" You pleaded.
He gave you that smirk of his again and finally moved the hand on your breast down again, using it to pull your underwear down and spread your legs lightly, sliding a finger through your slit "fuck!" he whispered as he realized how wet you were "you might actually be just as needy as me."
You wanted to laugh, but he quickly found your clit, and the first touch made you gasp. He grinned and started making circular motions with his finger. "Bloody hell, Sirius!" You said as you buckled your hips towards his hand. He used his other hand to hold your hips down.
"Let me do the work love," he said as he continued playing with your clit. Eventually, he slid one of his fingers inside you and slowly started taking it in and out. "Good girl!" he praised "so ready for me already."
"Come on Puppy, I want you…" you managed to say in between sharp breaths.
"I can smell you do," he responded and took his finger out of you, you quickly brought your arms towards his pants and helped him finally unbutton them. Bringing his trousers down, finally letting his cock free. It was throbbing and you went straight for it, tightening your hand around it and moving it up and down a couple of times, you moved your hand up and used your thumb to play with the nib, "fuck!” He cursed and allowed his head to fall on your shoulder "You’re gonna be the death of me."
You smiled and pulled on his hair lightly to have him look at you instead, flushed and breaking apart for him. Lending upwards to give him a kiss. Still strocking his cock.
"Come on Puppy,” you said, "you’re more than ready."
He nodded and guided his hips towards you, your hand still on his cock to guide him to your slit. And he slowly slid in, waiting for a couple of seconds before he started moving. A tiny little moan left your lips and it only fuelled him even more, he started moving faster. But then he stopped "fuck!"
"What’s wrong Puppy?" You asked, concerned.
"I’m just s- so close, but I- I want you to come first," he stuttered.
You smiled "Don’t worry about me Puppy," you said, softly placing a hand on his head, pulling back some of his hair behind his ears "Do your thing."
He shook his head feverishly, and planted a small kiss on your neck "I want to see you come first." He said as he brought his hand down in between the two of you, playing with your clit as he resumed his thrusts, which had you panting and moaning, you then started bucking your hips towards his. He brought you over the edge with so much ease. You placed your hands on his shoulder to help yourself with the momentum and he relished in the way you dig your nails onto him. There was something so animal with that particular gesture that made him go absolutely deranged.
"Puppy, I think I’m gonna-"
"Go ahead," he told you "come for me Starshine." Your head leaned back, your eyes closed tightly as your orgasm washed over you, the way your walls clenched around him had him push you even further, ridding you all the way out of your high. Even after you were back down he continued, pushing himself in and out of you.
When you got your senses back you brought Sirius down, closer to you and started kissing his neck, right the way he liked it, and after just a few more thrusts, you felt the familiar warmth wash over you. He continued ridding you until he couldn’t and he slowly slid his cock out, Allowing himself fall on top of you, his head on your chest, his weight pushing you into the bed, making you feel giddy with joy, there was nothing like having Sirius cuddle you after making love. You started playing with his hair, and rubbing his back with your free hand, you loved being able to feel his soft skin as you slid your hand up and down "So? Was it worth the wait?"
You felt him smile against your chest "You have to put on that bloody perfume of yours more often," he said placing a soft kiss on your skin.

It was late at night, and Sirius and the rest of the Marauders had gone out to attend a meeting for the Order of the Phoenix. He was gone most evenings, though he would usually return before you went to sleep.
You were laying in bed with a lamp on, writing a letter to a friend while you waited for Sirius to come home. It was already an hour past the time Sirius estimated he’d be home, and you were beginning to doze off. Your eyes began to close slowly, the quill falling out of  your hand as you drifted off to sleep.
─────── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───────
A crash from outside of your bedroom pulled you out of your deep sleep, causing you to sit up abruptly. You looked beside you, but the bed was still empty.
“Sirius? Is that you?” You asked, standing up and heading towards your open bedroom door. The rummaging sounds stopped at the sound of your voice, and you peeked your head out of your room to check who was there.
Standing in your hallway was a young man dressed in all black robes, frozen in place. From his appearance, you could tell that he must’ve been no older than 18. His sleeves were rolled up, and there was a visible Dark Mark on his arm. Your face went pale at the sight, and your breathing picked up immediately. You stepped back, holding the door frame to steady yourself. Your mind was racing, and you couldn’t think of a viable solution on the spot.
The man pulled his wand out, pointing at you. “Don’t move!” He shouted, and his youthful voice confirmed that he must’ve been a new recruit to the Death Eaters.
You made a run into the bedroom, trying to get behind the bed before he could follow, but it was too late.
“Crucio!” He yelled, pointing his wand at you.
You collapsed to the ground in agony, rings of fiery torture flashing through your body. The pain was unbearable, searing bouts of pain wreaking havoc over your convulsing body. The man stood there, horrified at the scene in front of him.
Just then, the front door swung open, and Sirius’ voice rang through the air. “Y/n?” Hearing your cries of agony, he dropped everything that was in his hands and rushed to the source of the sounds. He pulled his wand out, holding it out in front of him.
The young Death Eater turned to face Sirius, raising his own wand. Before he could cast anything, Sirius was able to act first. “Expelliarmus!” He shouted, causing the Death Eater’s wand to fly out of reach, hitting a wall and bouncing onto the floor.
Giving him no time to react, Sirius casted another spell. “Incarcerous!” Multiple ropes shot out of the tip of his wand, binding the Death Eater so that he was unable to move. He fell to the floor, struggling in the ropes.
Sirius hurried into the bedroom, dropping to his knees in front of you. The stabbing sensation was beginning to fade, but you were still writhing in pain, curled up on your side.
Sirius had never felt so helpless: your screams were ringing through his mind, and he wished for nothing more than to be able to take the pain away from you. He would rather go through the curse a hundred times than watch you cry and suffer. He pulled you into his arms, cradling you as tears filled his eyes. He repeatedly apologised, holding your trembling body close.
As the pain finally ceased, you began to regain your senses back. Your ears were ringing, and your vision was blurry, but you were able to make out Sirius’ face above yours. You blinked slowly, exhaustion taking over your body.
“Y/n? Can you hear me?” He asked, his voice shaking.
After a moment, you nodded slowly. Tears were rolling down his face, and his eyes were full of guilt.
You sat up cautiously, holding your side where there was still an aching sensation. He pulled you into a hug, holding the back of your head with his hand. “I’m here now. You’re safe.” He assured you, letting you release shaky sobs into his shoulder.
The panic returned, and you were wide awake again. “I couldn’t move, Sirius. It was excruciating. I’ve never felt such agony before.” You cried, hugging him tight as he rubbed your back.
“What did he do to you?” He questioned, releasing you from his embrace and wiping your tears away with his thumb.
“He used the Cruciatus curse.” You replied, your voice almost a whisper.
An expression of both rage and sorrow flashed across his face. He shook his head, pulling you back into a hug. “I have to get you to St. Mungos. Do you think you can stand, sweetheart?”
You let go of him, using his shoulder to attempt to push yourself up. After a few moments, you shook your head. The pain had taken a toll on your body, and you were too weak to stand on your own.
Sirius stood up, lifting you into his arms and carrying you bridal style out of your bedroom. The two of you were reminded of the presence of the Death Eater in your hallway when Alastor Moody walked through your front door.
“Sirius. I didn’t think I’d be seeing you again tonight.” He spoke with his gruff tone of voice, striding over to the restrained man on the floor.
“I’m taking Y/n to St. Mungos. Will you be taking care of this?” He asked, looking over at Moody.
“That’s what I’m here for. Crucio is a nasty one. Better be on your way.” He replied, taking his wand out.

Once you were checked into a bed for the night, the nurse had given you a pain-relieving potion and instructed that you try to get some rest before leaving you for the night.
Sirius sat at your bedside, holding your hand and rubbing the top of it with his thumb. You were exhausted, but you couldn’t seem to get yourself to sleep.
“I’m so sorry, Y/n.” He spoke, his voice dripping with regret. I should’ve been home. I let this happen.”
You shook your head, turning it to look at him. “Don’t blame yourself.”
“How can I not? This shouldn’t have happened. I should’ve come home when I said I would. It should’ve been me, not you.”
“Please, don’t say that.” Tears welled up in your eyes, threatening to spill. “I wouldn’t wish that pain on anyone. Especially not you.”
“I promise you, Y/n, I will never let anyone hurt you ever again.”
You offered him a weak smile, squeezing his hand. “You can go home, Sirius. No use suffering in that uncomfortable chair all night.”
“I’m not going to leave you. An uncomfortable chair is the least of my concerns. You should be sleeping by now. Close your eyes.” He pushed a strand of hair out of your face, cupping your cheek with his hand.
“I can’t. Every time I close my eyes…” Your throat tightened, making you unable to get the words out.
“Shh. It’s okay.” He stroked your hair, reassuring you. “How about I read you a book? I have your favourite in my bag.”
“You do?” You inquired.
“I always do. Just in case of emergencies.” He smiled, reaching into his bag and taking out the book.
“What kind of emergency requires my favourite book?”
“Clearly it was a good idea because it’s coming in handy right now.” He opened it to the first page, clearing his throat.
You smiled at him, turning onto your side to watch him read to you. The deeper he got into the story, the heavier your eyelids felt. Slowly but surely, his voice prodded you into a light but much needed sleep.
“Goodnight, Y/n.” He spoke softly, pressing a kiss to your forehead before settling into his chair to try and get some sleep.
He quickly realized that getting any sleep would be impossible. The images and sounds of you screaming in pain were tormenting his mind, causing immense waves of guilt and shame to wash over him over and over again.
─────── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───────
The next day, you had been cleared to go home with the expectation that you would avoid any strenuous task and get plenty of rest. Sirius had been instructed to ensure that you drink the pain-relieving potions twice a day, and to keep an eye on you to make sure that you were doing alright, physically and mentally.
He took his job very seriously, staying by your side all day, even when you were asleep. By evening, he was looking rougher than you.
"Sirius, you need to rest too. You haven't slept at all. How about you take a nice hot shower and then come back to bed?" You asked, giving him a reassuring look.
"I don't want to leave you." He said, anxiety clearly shining through his voice.
"I'll be okay for a few minutes without you. You can even leave the bathroom door open if it makes you feel any better. Plus, you've casted numerous concealment charms on the house. It's nearly impossible for anyone to get in." You took his hand, squeezing it gently. "I'll be okay. Moody said it wasn't a targeted attack, so we don't have to worry about them coming back."
"I know." He sighed, nodding. "Alright. I'll hop in the shower, but I'll be quick, okay? No more than ten minutes. Call me if you need anything." He gave you a quick peck on the lips before nervously heading to the bathroom.
He undressed, starting the shower and getting in. He let the warm water run down his face, closing his eyes. Flashes of last night's events ran through his mind, causing him to struggle to keep his tears inside. He smoothed back his wet hair, putting his hands on the shower wall in front of him to ground himself.
─────── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───────
As promised, Sirius returned to bed with you in no longer than ten minutes. His eyes were clearly red, though he sat next to you as if nothing had happened.
"Sirius..." You spoke softly, taking his face in your hands.
He looked at you, tears filling his eyes once more. The expression on his face caused you to get choked up, so you pulled him into a tight hug.
"I can't get it out of my mind, Y/n. That feeling, that desperate, helpless feeling, it's plaguing my every thought." He said, his voice breaking. "And if I'm in this much anguish from just seeing you in that state, then imagining what you must've experienced is too much to bear. How are you able to remain so strong? After what you went through, the torture you endured, how are you so resilient?"
"Because I have you, Sirius. I feel at ease when you're around because I know of the lengths that you would go to protect me." You let go of him, putting your hands on his shoulders.
"I'm sorry, Y/n, I'm being so selfish. This is about you, not me."
"You underwent trauma last night too. Please don't invalidate your own anxieties because you think that I had it worse. The important thing is that we are here for each other, and that I'm going to help you through this just as much as you're going to help me."
"Losing you is a fear that haunts my mind. That is why I'm so anxious about this situation. The world is a dangerous place right now, and seeing you get caught up in it was like seeing a nightmare come to life."
"I know. Every day that you're out there with the Order, I'm scared of losing you too."
"Don't you worry, darling. I'm not letting anyone get rid of me. I love you too damn much to leave so soon." He smiled softly, kissing your forehead.
"I love you too, Sirius."

YOU LONGED FOR summer’s embrace, and the warm reprieve from the demands of school, yet you are afraid of what it might bring. the longer you try to savor the last of your sixth year, and dream of the carefree hours under never-ending sunlight soon within your grasp, the harder it becomes to ignore the continuously grim headlines of the daily prophet presented at the breakfast table every morning. even amidst your friends’ laughter, the looming shadow of anti-muggle-born propaganda pushed forward by unseen hands propels them to dissect and debate on almost molecular levels, each point characterized by a bite or a clang of a fork.
the end of your sixth year brings unshakeable exhaustion as constant vigilance weaves itself into everyday life within the ancient walls of the castle, adding to the suddenly rigorous course load attempting to prepare your year for their upcoming n.e.w.t.s. hogwarts, once a haven, now demanded a watchful eye on every staircase and dark corridor, as the hallways echoed with ghostly rumors and whispers found their homes on the staircases.
“mare, stop tryna murder slughorn with your eyes; he might catch on,” you hissed at mary under your breath, elbowing her discreetly, as you try to appear focused on slughorn’s lesson.
“maybe he’ll learn his lesson and stop splitting us up,” mary responded resolutely, never once breaking eye contact with the balding pudgy man who, in a horribly clichéd fit of inspiration, had begun assigning partners to brew amortentia in the double-potions period you had been blessed with today.
the somewhat impulsive decision of “james potter and lily evans” had you and mary turning to each other, eyebrows raised as you wondered quite how thick slughorn could be. in general, no one knew what was going on between james and lily. at this point, you surmised neither did they. they had had odd bouts of camaraderie, quickly replaced with civil hostility, resulting in a continuous loop of poorly disguised affection or hatred, like a roulette wheel deciding which lily and james to match up each day.
you prayed to merlin, hoping whatever disastrous infliction that had befallen slughorn for him to pair james with lily would not contagiously affect his decision for you, and that slughorn would come to his senses and let you spend the amortentia lesson with your sanity intact. alas, merlin had no such qualms about leaving you to fend for yourself as the anticipation you felt when slughorn called your name quickly soured to horror when he followed it up with none other than “sirius black”.
despite the number of mutual friends shared—after your friend groups warmed up to each other this year—the two of you had never gotten along. you’ve since chalked it up to his propensity for being aggravating without rhyme or reason, seemingly driven by an inherent desire to extract reactions. his words, laced with a mirth hard to ignore, are like finely crafted spells designed to unravel your patience. the rest of the school’s population are able to dismiss him, but your inability to ignore him has become something of an enigma.
feeling sirius’s presence next to you, without turning to face him, you asked, crossing your arms over your chest, “am i gonna have to remain vigil over our cauldron in case it blows up the minute my back is turned?”
“as flattering as it is to hear you admit that you’ve been watching me over the years—” here, you let out a derisive snort, causing sirius to pause, and raise his eyebrows at you in challenge, “when have you seen me jinx my own cauldron?” he continued, a smirk tugging at his lips as he loosened his tie even further.
you groaned, finally making eye contact with him, unsurprised to see that all-too-familiar glint in his grey eyes, “can we please just get this over with already?”
in your six shared years of schooling, you have always distantly conceded him to be handsome, his features falling into the realm of casual observance amidst the whirlwind of classes, and quidditch matches. yet, the way he stares down at you in this moment stirs something within you, the unfamiliar fluttering awakening a newfound awareness.
his locks of black hair fall delicately in his eyes, as if afraid to obstruct your view. the silver gleam of his piercings catch the glow of the potions bubbling around you, an intricate constellation along the curve of his ears—a bold declaration of his rebelliousness. the smile tugging at the corners of his lips is enigmatic, as if he’s aware that he’s just shifted something fundamental between you.
“aren’t you moving a little too fast?” sirius continued when you turned to him confused, “take me out to dinner first.”
you glared at him as understanding dawned on you, “i’m literally going to murder you if you don’t shut up, i swear to merlin.”
“aren’t you kinky?”
you spin around, pointing your wand at his jugular, watching his adam’s apple bob up then down as he threw his hands up in surrender, an easy-going grin gracing his features, “woah there, guess i touched a nerve, huh?”
you know he’s baiting you, you know his talent for finding weaknesses and exploiting them all too well, but you can’t help yourself when it comes to him, falling into the trap carefully set out for you, biting out a retort before you’re aware of it, “you won’t have any nerves left when i’m done with you.”
sirius grins, no—bares his teeth at you, wolfishly, and suddenly you understand all of james’s dog-related jokes over the years.
the two of you remain uncharacteristically quiet for the remainder of the potion, you’re surprised by sirius’s begrudging help, and soon enough, you’re sliding the last ingredient in.
the potion looks right to you, with the mother-of-pearl sheen slughorn gushed about for all of the class period, but you can’t tell because your senses were invaded by the distinct smell of cologne causing you to wrinkle your nose as you eyed sirius apprehensively.
he seemed to be having the same predicament as you currently, perfect brows furrowed in thought as his eyes glance over the potion.
“i can’t tell if we did it right,” you venture.
“me neither,” he shrugs, “all i can smell is your perfume—by the way, did you have to use the whole bottle?”
“i could say the same for you—the room reeks of your cologne, asshole.”
“more like your perfume—”
“i literally ran out this morning—”
“because you dumped the whole bottle on yourself?”
“literally pot calling the kettle black—”
“i am a black—”
“i literally hate you so much—”
a sharp, disapproving cough splits the two of you apart, not only had your argument grown embarrassingly loud in its procession, but it had also orchestrated a gravitational pull between the two of you. the result had been proximity that bordered on the intimate, your personal space evaporating until you were mere inches apart. the ignominy of being publicly seen at sirius black’s throat was nothing compared to the humiliation that followed after slughorn’s unexpected interruption.
slughorn’s rotund figure regards the two of you with a mixture of curiosity and mild exasperation, his mustache twitching slightly in rhythm with the exaggerated rise and fall of his breath, “my dears,” he begins, his tone a blend of genuine concern and theatrical flair, “what seems to be the problem? your potion appears to be brewed successfully, i can see the characteristic smoke spirals, and the mother-of-sheen pearl.”
flushed with embarrassment that seems to spread through you like a fever, you mumble your response lowly, “sorry, professor, but we couldn’t tell because of external factors.”
the air in the room seems to thicken as the collective gaze of your classmates turns toward the two of you, their eyes capturing the awkwardness with an unabashed curiosity that makes you wish you could use a time-turner to escape this particular moment of public humiliation.
slughorn’s hearty laughter fills the room like a boisterous charm, “oho, i see the problem now, my dear,” he addresses you, his eyes crinkling with amusement, “tell me, what do you smell in the amortentia?”
his words hang in the air, and the room's atmosphere has shifted from tense to expectant.
confused, you play with the hem of your skirt as you wonder the relevancy of his question, your gaze flickering uncertainly, tracing patterns in the stone floor as you respond, “um, cologne, leather, and brownies, professor.”
the room, for a moment, becomes a canvas of uncomfortable silence, and you're resolutely avoiding making eye contact with anyone else in the room.
satisfied with your response, slughorn pivots his attention to sirius, a gleam of intrigue dancing in his eyes, "now you, my boy," he encourages, his voice a velvet stroke, "go on, tell us what you smell."
a twist of surprise clenches within you as you expect sirius to brush off the request, to summon a sarcastic remark as his defense. yet, to your astonishment, he complies, his fingers raking through his hair, “perfume, shampoo, and petrol, professor."
slughorn nods sagely, his lips curving into a satisfied grin that crinkles the corners of his eyes. he claps his hands together once, the sound a punctuation to his assessment. the atmosphere in the room has shifted from suspenseful to charged, every student suspended in the tension of his next words.
"my dears," he addresses the class with the air of a professor on the brink of a profound lesson, "you smell each other in the amortentia, that is your problem."
the previously stifling silence is breached as the dungeon is painted with a symphony of snickers. the air seems to vibrate with laughter, and there's even a bold wolf whistle, which you're almost certain is courtesy of james. yet, amidst this collective amusement, all you can feel is disconcertment, the weight of attention heavy upon you.
as if merlin himself takes pity on your predicament, slughorn's laughter ripples through the room, warm and infectious, as he claps his hands together again, “my young scholars, it's time for practicality. bottle your amortentia, label it, and kindly leave it on my desk before making your exit."
with that, your hasty exit from the dungeon turns into a veritable escape, as you shoulder your bag against your side. every nerve in your body screams for invisibility, to become nothing more than a background figure. however, as you weave your way through the corridors, hoping to dissolve into the anonymity of the crowd, you're struck by sirius black’s unwavering dedication in trailing behind you despite each step you take further into the deepening throng of students.
just before you can approach the fat lady’s portrait, a hand closes on your elbow and a startled gasp escapes you as you are abruptly yanked into a hidden alcove, your heartbeat thundering in your ears. your eyes adjust to the sudden darkness, but before you can react, a large hand firmly pressed against your mouth, thick silver rings digging uncomfortably against your lips. glaring at your kidnapper, you folded your arms across your chest.
acutely aware of the proximity, of the scent of cologne now much fainter than in the dungeons, you wait with a mixture of frustation and curiosity. sirius leans as far back as the alcove will let him, which is not much, but at least he’s no longer lurking over you like a predator staring down its prey.
“the fuck do you want?” you could care less if you smelled him or if he smelled you in the amortentia, because as far as you’re concerned, the two of you can continue to dance around each other in the way you have perfected over the years. in your delicate ballet, he is the master of light-hearted jests flickering like fireflies in the summer dusk, and you are the recipient of his playful pranks and ceaseless banter, carrying an unspoken agreement, holding onto the game you both secretly treasured.
its predictability is comforting, the way his remarks are as reliable as the rising sun, and your laughter feels like a shared secret between only the two of you. the amortentia's revelations feel like an unnecessary intrusion, an attempt to place confusing labels on your little game.
“go out with me,” sirius levels a roguish grin at you, his grey eyes dance with the mischief you are so accustomed to seeing.
all you want is to say yes, to revel in stolen glances, the exhilaration of shared laughter, the brushing of your fingers together, and strolling carefree across the castle grounds, but your world isn’t one satisfied by teen romances. it’s one where every word and connection is scrutinized under the weight of a society where love and friendship are tainted by its fixation on blood status.
you cannot bring yourself to look into his eyes, twinkling with genuine interest, feeling a pang of bitterness as you consider the reality of your world. to say yes would be to risk both your safety and that of your friends, and who knows if the ensuing conflict would leave either of you unscathed.
“i can’t,” you still cannot bring yourself to look him in the eye as you deliver this unseen rejection with a bittersweet smile, torn between longing for normalcy and the harsh lessons you’ve learned with every picture and name added to the growing list of victims.
“why not?” sirius asks, confusion coloring his features, as he searches your gaze, attempting to make eye contact.
you don’t know how to explain without seeming as if you’re getting ahead of yourself, thinking of the distant future, but you try anyway, wringing your hands together, “we don’t know what’ll happen in a year or two, sirius. we don’t even know if we’ll be alive after we graduate.”
his hands cradle your chin, forcing you to look him in the eye, the cool press of his metal rings against your burning skin is soothing, “i’m asking for right now,” he continues, softly, gentler than you have ever known him, his gaze holding yours in quiet intensity, “for you to live for yourself—”
the uncertain future shapes into one of possibility, and so, without conscious thought, you surge forward to kiss him, clumsier than you would have liked, and messier than you have ever known, but it feels right.
“so, that’s a yes for hogsmeade this weekend?”

Matt's car glided through the moonlit streets of Los Angeles as he headed toward Y/N's apartment after dropping off his brothers at Tara Yummy's 1 million celebration party. The radio played the playlist created by him and Y/N, which they constantly fed with new songs that reminded themselves of each other.
Matt smiled as he looked to the little surprise he had prepared for his girlfriend. He made a brief stop at a flower shop on the way, where he bought a simple bouquet of pink tulips - Y/N's favorite. His eyes momentarily found the bouquet carefully wrapped and placed on the passenger seat before returning his gaze to the road.
Upon arriving at the building where Y/N lived, his access to the parking lot was quickly granted, the doorman already knowing him very well. The boy didn't take long to take the bouquet in hand, locking the doors and taking the elevator to the corresponding floor.
The sound of the keys against the front door lock sounded faintly through the living room, followed by the sound of the door opening and closing seconds later, Matt quickly taking off his shoes and resting them against the wall.
"Baby?" His voice echoed through the walls, expanding to the nearest rooms, while his eyes quickly surrounded the space, searching for the girl.
"Kitchen!" Y/N shouted back, an involuntary smile growing on her face almost automatically, her body reacting to Matt's presence.
Matt made his way to the kitchen and found Y/N with her back to him, focused on the counter as she moved her arms over the ceramics. With a smile on his face, he approached her silently and hugged her from behind, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his hands on her stomach covered by her hoodie and little green apron.
"Hi, pretty boy." Y/N murmured softly, rubbing her hands together to shake off the flour before wrapping her arms around his, caressing the hoodie-covered skin. "I thought you were going to Tara's party."
"Without my girl? Never." He responded in a low tone against her neck, laying his head on her right shoulder so that his face was facing her neck and sealing her jaw gently. "I brought you something." Matt pulled away slightly and retrieved the bouquet he had rested on the table.
Y/N turned to him with eyes full of curiosity and confusion, which soon turned into pure ecstasy, her heart overflowing with love.
"Oh my... Matt, they're beautiful!" The girl beamed, accepting the bouquet and cradling it in her arms as if it was a newborn.
"I always bring you flowers, I don't know how you still react so surprised." Matt murmured jokingly, smiling as he watched her enjoy the little gift.
As Y/N carefully arranged the tulips in a new ceramic vase, Matt approached the oven to peek at what she was preparing. The delicious aroma of freshly baked cookies filled the air, making his stomach growl with anticipation.
"Did you make cookies?" The boy asked excitedly.
"Yes! I was baking it to take it to you tomorrow." Y/N nodded quickly, returning to her starting position. "Do you want some, hon?"
"Yes, please."
Matt watched in awe as Y/N bent slightly, opening the stove door and carefully taking out the baking tray with her hand covered in the soft yellow fabric glove, resting it on the counter.
He knew he was lucky to have someone so incredible in his life, someone who cared about making every moment special.
The girl rose to her tiptoes after closing the oven, opening the cabinet above the stove and retrieving two dessert plates designed with little strawberries. She placed them side by side next to the tray before taking a small spatula and moving two cookies to each plate carefully, afraid of breaking or dropping them.
Matt walked over, taking one of the cookies from the tray with the tip of his fingertips, ignoring the slight burn from the high temperature. He lifted his own hand, blowing on the sweet before biting off a piece, closing his eyes automatically and letting out a sigh of pleasure through his nose. The way the cookie was still warm made it melt in his mouth, the chocolate exploding against his tongue, multiplying the variety of flavors.
"Is it good?" Y/N giggled, watching him with a smile gracing her face, receiving a quick nod with wide blue eyes. "Come on, baby."
She took the plates in her hands delicately, leaving her kitchen and walking to the balcony with Matt following close behind as he licked his fingers, removing all the chocolate residue.
The night was cool and clear, with the sky dotted with twinkling stars. The couple snuggled into the cushioned chairs that decorated the small space, Matt quickly reaching for the pink blanket that was folded on the small table on the right corner, opening it and throwing it over his and his girlfriend's legs, protecting them against the light breeze.
"Oh! Matt, remember the dog constellation I was telling you about the other day?" Y/N's excited voice cut through the comfortable silence, her eyes lighting up just like the stars above them.
"Sirios? No, wait, Sirius... Right?" Matt frowned, a cute look of confusion spreading across his face as his eyes darted from Y/N to the sky and back again.
"Exactly! Sirius, the brightest star in the night sky. Right there." The girl raised her arm that wasn't holding her plate, pointing her index finger upwards.
Matt looked in the indicated direction, navigating through the stars for a few seconds until he found it.
"Wait, it's actually beautiful. What else do you know about it?"
Y/N smiled truthful, her heart warming at being able to talk more about something she loved so much, without having restrictions or feeling ashamed for her excitement.
"Well, Sirius is a binary star, which means it is actually two stars orbiting around each other. It is part of the constellation Canis Major, the Greater Dog, and is known as 'The Dog Stars'. Oh, oh! Do you remember Sirius Black? My favorite Harry Potter character? So, this star..."
Matt listened intently, slowly chewing the small cookie pieces while keeping his eyes fixed on Y/N. Her passion for astronomy and the universe always fascinated him, and there wasn't a time when she brought up the subject that he wasn't willing to give her his full attention.
As the night progressed, Matt and Y/N continued to stargaze, lost in conversations about the cosmos and its mysteries.
As the last cookie crumbs disappeared from the plates and the sky began to brighten with the sun that appeared over the horizon, Y/N felt a wave of comfort and contentment envelop her body, resting the ceramics on the corner table and moving gently towards Matt, settling on his lap.
The boy opened a big, involuntary smile, automatically wrapping her with his arms and the pink blanket, protecting them from the slight cold of dawn, while she laid her head on his chest, feeling the peaceful rhythm of his heartbeat and serene breathing.
Together, they kept their eyes fixed on the sky that was beginning to take on color, the sound of the first cars on the street, and the laughter of children going to school filling their ears.
Little by little, Y/N began to feel the effects of exhaustion after staying up all night, her body relaxing against Matt's comforting warmth. Sleep came like a gentle wave, enveloping her senses in an embrace.
Her breathing became slow and regular, while her body became limp and light. Her brain shutting down and giving in to deep sleep, to the point where she didn't hear the little whisper of "good night, petal" from her boyfriend, let alone his arms carrying her to her bed, where they finally slept in each other's arms.
