In preparation for an upcoming figure skating competition, you were dedicated to getting in as much practice as possible. Thankfully, you were able to book the university ice rink for two months in the lead up to the competition. Your regular practice sessions were every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday for five in the late afternoon until seven. It was a bit excessive but you wanted to win. Many of your friends view you as someone sweet and docile but also hard working and quite the perfectionist. What they don’t realise is how competitive you can be behind the scenes. Everytime you cancel plans, you usually excuse yourself with the ‘I’m busy’ reasoning that your close friends readily accept, believing that you were working through papers and research articles for uni classes when, in actuality, you were spending time in the rink. 

Today, you had brought with you your portable stereo to go through the routine with the music over and over again, gradually perfecting the appearance of your more grandiose moves as well as the sequence of your steps on the ice. It felt good being at this stage of your development, the entirety of your routine has been choreographed already and had been revised by your coach, who suggested some minor changes but approved it overall — you knew what you were doing, it was just the case of perfecting things now, something you were talented at and even enjoyed. 

The main focus for today’s session was the polishing of the big jumps and ambitious spins of your routine. It was a little tiresome and you don’t believe you’d be able to cover all of them for this session but you never really expected to in the first place. Your only saving grace was that you had some time to apply light makeup earlier in celebration for the new figure skating set you were gifted by your parents. It was an all black set that paired a sleek skort with a long sleeved turtle neck top that had lacing to decorate the open back and thumb holes in the sleeves as the hem reached half way up your palms. You liked feeling pretty in practices, it always helped to encourage your self-confidence so there was always a little spike in your performance. The praises of your supervising coach was all you needed to confirm this fact. 

“Brilliant, my girl! Again!” Vera sang her high praises from the stands and helped you control the music whenever you wanted to repeat a particular part of the choreo. For this routine, you had settled for something more elegant and based the choreography around the ‘Waltz of the Flowers’ by Tchaikovsky. The soundtrack made you miss the time you did ballet until you were fifteen before eventually falling in love with figure skating. A lot of your routines tend to be based around the elegance of ballet in addition to the complicated turns, spins and jumps that encompassed figure skating; your coach, Vera, loved how you were able to combine both sports in such a seamless way. 

The music kept playing even after you had repeated the skid spiral so you naturally flowed into rehearsing more of your choreo, allowing muscle memory and the music to guide you over the ice as you subconsciously waited for Vera to pause the music and ask you to repeat something that didn’t look quite right. Polishing up the routine was filled with more critiques than any stage of creating your final performance so your anticipation for Vera to pause the music, repeat a move and provide additional tips lingered in the back of your mind as you flawlessly spiralled into one of your most difficult spins — a one-handed beillman. 

“Beautiful Beautiful!” Vera praised, clapping as you gradually spun out of the position before abandoning the routine and grinning widely to yourself, proud and giddy for finally nailing the transition and spin. 

“Vera!” you shout across the ice and over the music, cheering with your fists raised to the air in victory, “I did it!” It was then when you realised that Vera’s clapping was accompanied with an entire audience of applause and your panicked eyes fell upon a grinning hockey player standing beside your coach, behind them was a team of hockey players, some whistling and whooping in between their applause. 

As you tried to catch your breath and suppress your bashfulness, you gathered that Vera had neglected to reply to the soundtrack to discuss something with the hockey player, and so, it seems that the entire hockey team just saw a glimpse of your routine. Eventually, Vera paused the music and motioned you over, looking to discuss something. 

“Wh-what’s wrong?” you ask upon reaching the sidelines, fiddling with the hem of your sleeves as you avoided the hockey player’s eyes. He was dressed in most of his equipment, only missing his headgear, and was sporting the dopiest grin on his face. “It appears as though the university hockey team had booked the rink to practise for a match happening early next week, however, there was some miscommunication over the timings and schedules,” you furrow your brows as Vera explains the situation before shyly glancing up at the hockey player beside her, who had unruly dark curls and glimmering hazel eyes behind a pair of cute glasses. It seems your simple acknowledgement of him was enough to prompt his self introduction. 

“I’m James,” he reaches out his gloved hand for you to shake, quickly taking it back to rip of his glove off before reaching to shake your hand once again, “James Potter, Captain of the Hockey team,” behind him the rest of the hockey players wave at you, some with friendly grins and others sporting a mischievous smirk as they regard their captain’s behaviour around you, “Vera explained that you were practising for a competition and also booked the rink in advance but since you got here early, we’ll put the decision to you,”

You raised a brow and tilted your head slightly, prompting him to continue, “make a decision on what?”

“On whether to kick us out and continue your practice or finish your practice early and allow us to have the rink for drills exercises and plays,” James finished, grinning at you with no malice and insinuating that he wouldn’t hold any ill-will over either outcome. 

“Oh!” your cheeks heat up under his warm voice, amiable manner, pretty eyes and charming dimples and you couldn’t help but stare for a moment before eventually shaking your head and giving him your resolve, “I’d be happy to give you the rink, I’ve covered a lot of ground already so I don’t mind,” James’s smile reaches his eyes once more and he nods. 

“You heard the lady boys, what do we say?” he shouts back to his team, his voice commanding attention and is as firm as his build, encouraging an ensemble of ‘thank you’s to sound from behind him, “Thank you very much,” James finishes and nods to his boys, signalling them to set up the rink and get ready for practice while you also take the time to shake off your nerves and walk off the ice, where James greets you once more.

“I hope you have a good and productive practice,” you wish him and offer a warm smile, your heart finally settled down to a semi-heightened beat. He’s really quite handsome…you think to yourself but quickly look away to, again, keep from staring too long. 

“Thank you and thanks again for letting us have the rink,” James takes your hand and lifts your knuckles to his lips — an act of gratitude that has a dangerous heat creeping up your neck to occupy your cheeks once more, “you’re very beautiful on the ice, by the way. I’m sure you’ll smash it at the competition, your competitors don’t stand a chance,” the two of you share pleasantries and more smiles before you finally make your way to the locker rooms to change with a straighter back and a lighter heart. 

What an encounter. 

“She practises every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5 to 7pm,” Vera says out of nowhere as she approaches James, who stares off to where you had disappeared. 

“I’m sorry?” 

A stone cold look crosses over Vera’s face, “avoid those times at all costs,” she warns, her russian accent suddenly thick and intimidating, “my student doesn’t need any distractions,” the statement makes James raise a brow in question, “her competition is on the 14th November, held in the city community rink, and it starts at noon, don’t be late,”

Suffice to say, James wasn’t late to your competition, in fact,  he was early and he brought the entire hockey team with him to support you. You won second place but felt like a gold medalist when the hockey team hollered the loudest for you at the awarding ceremony and lifted you onto their shoulders with the congratulatory flowers James brought you in your arms and your silver medal around your neck.  To return the favour, you attended their next hockey game and made sure to shout the loudest whenever their team scored and eventually when their team won the match.

“When do you think our captain’s finally gonna grow some balls and ask out his ice skating ballerina?” Sirius whispers to his taller brunette friend.

“Let them take their time,” Remus replies, the two staring as James throws his arm over your shoulders and you wrap your own around the back of his waist, “everyone already thinks their dating anyway so they’ll get it eventually,”

“Wait! So they’re not actually dating yet?” Peter asks with a surprised face as the other two laugh, “But I swear I saw them kissing by the locker rooms before the game earlier!”

And he thinks that maybe if walking into the Olympic Stadium during the opening ceremony wasn’t enough, having Harry Styles’ arm around him might be the killing blow.   Also known as an Olympics AU where Harry is a pro tennis player, and Louis is a pro footballer. They meet at the opening ceremony and fall in love, obviously.

Rajbow week day 3: Any AU

I know I’m late but uni started back up so I’ve been busy :( Better late than never!

This is an AU I’ve been working on, on and off, Gem AU! More info under the cut if you’re curious, it’s LONG.

This is Gem AU, works like a lot of the other SU based AU where it’s a different universe than the cartoon, they don’t exist alongside Steven and the crystal gems or anything like that. They’re in their own bubble, the only similarities is that they’re gems with powers and some core ideas like gem rebellion.

Since this post is for Rajbow week, I’ll only go over their basic information (They’re the most complete as of now anyway.)

Raj is a Celestine. (Fully goes by Raj in the rebellion)

In this AU, Celestines are entertainers, specifically ice skaters. His summoned ‘item’ are a set of ice wings, similar to Lapis in canon. (The hockey stick is something he requested further into the rebellion.)

He has ice powers where he can summon ice, but not fully manipulate them. For example, he can turn frost the floor as he skates, he can summon spikes of ice to use as weapons, but he can’t freely shape the ice.

Because they’re versatile, Celestines are considered decently high-end, and are often accompanied by a Snow Quartz. ;)

Bowie is a Fluorite. (Fully goes by Bowie later in the rebellion)

In this AU, Fluorites are battle strategists, ranked much higher than pearls but still works under their assigned bosses. In Bowie’s case— Well…It’s unimportant now. His summoned weapon is a dagger, perfect for stealth.

Fluorite has the power to purity, this encompasses minor healing, cleansing, sometimes the more trained Fluorites can delete data from technology too. He was also given technology similar to Peridot and Pearl’s display screens.

This is a very outdated ref, since I completely overhauled their colors, but it’s fine I’ll update it later.

This is (outdated palette) Purple-Blue Ammolite! (He/They)

Ammolite is Raj and Bowie’s fusion, and their combined weapon is a scythe. (At this point, Raj had already acquired his hockey stick) However, Ammolite also has heart-shaped wings from Raj’s ice wings and Bowie’s digital screens.

Ammolite is an extremely stable fusion. They’re not exactly a permanent fusion, but Raj and Bowie do spend a lot of time fused, and they could stay fused for as long as they want. They have Bowie’s wits, sass, and the need to always look good, and they have Raj’s impulsiveness, loyalty, and pure unadulterated energy.

Hermione Granger only dates hockey players.

This fact was born out of sheer coincidence and not out of any conscious preference she has—quite the opposite in fact. Most of the hockey players she has to deal with on a daily basis are crass and obnoxious, and the thought of dating any of them brings a grimace to her lips.

She likes to think maybe she just has a knack for finding the good ones in the bunch, but she had no idea that Viktor was a hockey player—rather a talented one, in fact—when she met him during a foreign exchange program at her uni. And Cormac—well, it was hard to say that she’d dated him, if a single disastrous blind date could be counted at all, and he certainly wasn’t one of the good ones. He was the type to argue every call with the referees, and know all of his stats off the top of his head, repeating them incessantly and without provocation. And this was for a recreational team at their local rink; Viktor played on a low-level professional circuit and didn’t have the same obnoxious quirks.

So it’s not like she’s seeking out these hockey players. But still, the fact remains.

“He’s cute.” Lavender sidles up next to Hermione at the glass and slips off her skate guards before reaching up to fix her long blonde braid.

“He’s late,” Hermione gripes back, glaring past the scuffed up plexiglass panels at the current unknown object of her irritation. She definitely doesn’t know all of the hockey players at the Hogwarts Iceplex, but she’s sure she would remember the bright shock of red hair peeking out from beneath his goalie helmet while he takes slapshots from a puck launcher at the blue line. She and Lav are supposed to have the ice to themselves for the next half hour until their lessons arrive. Mostly she only gets out on the ice anymore to coach younger figure skaters, but her best friend still convinces her to skate with her for fun from time to time.

“Oh, will you relax?” Lavender scoffs with a roll of her eyes, tossing her plait back over her shoulder. “I bet we could share the ice.”

“Whether we could or not doesn’t matter,” Hermione retorts. “We booked the ice for 3:00 and it’s now 3:07 and—Lavender!”

Hermione’s indignant shout doesn’t stop Lavender from clanging open the heavy door in the boards and skating out onto the ice toward the unknown goalie. Her dress shimmers even under the dull fluorescents of the Iceplex, and Hermione flings off her skate guards to follow her with a groan.

By the time she catches up to her, Lavender has already finished showing off a basic spin move and is curtseying to the applause of the goalie. Hermione rolls her eyes; unlike herself, Lavender has no qualms about her preference for dating hockey players. “Hermione, this is Ron,” Lavender introduces him as Hermione slows to a stop outside the goalie zone. “He’s new in town.”

“Is that an excuse for not knowing how to tell time?” Hermione snaps back, addressing only her friend. “This is our ice time.”

The goalie—Ron—pushes his mask up onto his head to glare at her. Damn it; he is cute. Even though his bright blue eyes are narrowed at her, Hermione feels like she could drown in them.

“D’you know your clock is wrong?” He gestures up at the digital red numbers on the wall above the penalty box, which may or may not at any given time be accurate. A quick glance at her watch tells Hermione that currently, they are not.

“That’s beside the point,” Hermione snaps back, forcing herself not to get flustered by the handsome stranger.

Lavender grabs at her arm, fingernails digging into her flesh in warning as she giggles at Ron. “You’ll have to excuse her, she gets a bit crabby when she hasn’t eaten.”

“I’m getting a bit hungry myself,” Ron says. Though he’s talking to Lavender, his eyes keep flickering back to Hermione. “How’s the food in the Penalty Box?”

“Awful,” Hermione blurts. She can hardly stand the smell of grease and beer that permeates the Iceplex pub, but she does pop in from time to time to see her friend Hannah, the bartender.

“What Hermione means is, there’s plenty of restaurants nearby, and maybe we can take you to one of those sometime,” Lavender corrects, though that’s not what Hermione meant at all, and she forcibly restrains an eye roll. “Show you around town.”

“Sure. That sounds great.” Ron smiles, and Hermione can’t help but notice how nice it is—not a given with hockey players. Although since goalies have to wear a mask, she supposes it’s less common for them to be missing any of their teeth. Honestly, she’ll never understand why they don’t all wear full cages on their helmets; idiotic machismo, probably. “I’ll get out of your hair, then.”

He gathers up his gear from the bench under Hermione’s impatient eye, and when he exits the rink, leaving the girls alone at last, Hermione turns on Lavender with a glare. “Since when do you need a chaperone to take a guy out?” she complains. “I don’t need to watch you slobber all over him over dinner.”

Lavender skates a wide circle around Hermione. “I said we because I knew you wouldn’t ask him out yourself.”

Hermione scoffs. “Me? Why in the world would I ask him out?”

“Because he was so totally into you. God, you can be thick sometimes.”

Hermione raises a skeptical eyebrow at Lavender, who drops easily into a sit spin, her glittery skirt fanning out around her. Lav still dresses in old competition outfits when they go skating, just for the fun of it, and she always turns heads. By contrast, Hermione is wearing her favorite fleece-lined leggings and an oversized sweatshirt, her frizzy curls piled into a messy bun atop her head. The glitz and glamour was always her least favorite part of figure skating.

“And what makes you think I was into him?” she retorts, folding her arms across her chest. Cute or not, the last thing she needs in her life is another hockey player.

Lavender affords her an eye roll as she rises out of her spin and slows to a stop. “You mean besides the way you were undressing him with your eyes?”

“I—I wasn’t—”

“Uh huh.” Her best friend grabs her hands and begins gliding backwards, pulling her around the rink. “Honestly, Hermione, he seems nice. You can give him a chance.”

“Oh, yes, and I’m sure he’ll be quick to give me one after that delightful first impression.”

“I doubt you’re the first uptight figure skater he’s ever met.”

“Doubtful you’re the first that’s ever flirted with him in net, either.”

A smirk twitches on Lavender’s glossy lips, and she winks at Hermione. “What can I say? We can’t all be in denial about our romantic preferences.”

Forty-five minutes later, after they’ve concluded their lessons, Lavender loops her arm through Hermione’s and steers their steps toward the pub. “One drink,” she coaxes as they march past the rows of smelly, overstuffed hockey bags that line the hallway between the ice and the locker rooms. A neon sign overhead with two letters burnt out and a gap in the row of bags mark the pub entrance in the middle of the hall. “I promised Seamus. And we’ll see if your new friend is still here.”

“Lav, he’s—” The words catch in her throat as she spots him at the bar, showered and in street clothes now, sipping on a frosty pint and chatting with Harry, one of the few hockey players at the rink who she’s neither attracted to nor repulsed by. If he’s friends with Harry, he can’t be all bad.

Lavender gives her a nudge in his direction and then prances over to the ragged leather couch in the corner where she deposits herself into Seamus’s lap with an exaggerated giggle. Hermione sighs and approaches the bar, shooting a nervous smile at Hannah in greeting. Ron turns and meets her gaze, and one corner of his lips quirks up. “Hi,” she says tentatively, sliding onto a stool next to him.

He pushes the little paper tray in front of him across the bartop towards her. “Mozzarella stick?” he offers, his smirk widening. “Or would you rather stay hungry and keep grousing at me?”

“No, thank you. But I am sorry,” Hermione apologizes. She means it, but she pushes the greasy offering back towards him. “We got off on the wrong foot. I don’t have much patience for the chaos of the rink.”

“You don’t say.” Ron smiles to lessen the impact of his quip, and Hannah leans against the bar to interject as she sets a glass of water in front of Hermione.

“To be fair, Hermione here does the rink’s bookkeeping, so she gets stuck with more of the chaos than anyone,” she explains to Ron, who looks at her appraisingly.

“You work here, too?” Hermione nods. “Come on, you must like hockey, then. To spend all this time at the rink.”

Harry snorts from Ron’s other side, and Hermione leans around Ron to glare at him. As she does, she catches a whiff of something spicy like cinnamon, and her heart gives a little thud of appreciation. “Not really,” she admits. “But I think it’s growing on me.”

its a spider-man au and it was inspired by across the spider-verse (i have been obsessed w those films since 2018 soo)

i don’t follow the movies’ plot so it’s not really spoiler-y but i’ll explain everything under the cut!

OK SO

basically the story revolves around the black brothers (no surprise here): the black family used to be a big industry in the technological field, but after being caught selling weapons to villains, sirius and regulus’ parents (along w many other important and rich people) were arrested, and the company was shut down.

sirius and regulus ended up living w alphard (who used to be the mind behind the greatest inventions before he left the company, when business started to get shady), and although they struggle w money, alphard wants them to have the best education possible, so they go to prestigious schools (sirius studies physics in uni w james and peter and they’re all besties, regulus is still in high school but has amazing grades)

BUT!!!

one day regulus found out uncle alphard was actually a criminal, the prowler, and that’s how he could afford to support his two boys. however, when alphard’s health started to quickly deteriorate, regulus decided that, to let his brother have the future he deserved, he was going to take his uncle’s place in the world of crime. regulus and alphard begin to work together, making technologically advanced gadgets for the prowler and getting that bag!!

(alphard despised the idea of making regulus into a criminal, but reg is set on his idea and the two bond over their passion for tech)

in the mean time, sirius went on a school trip to visit a (for now unnamed) lab and got bitten by a radioactive spider: he got powers, showed them to james and peter as soon as he could, and decided to become spider-man and fight crime!!

of course, this will lead sirius to fighting his own brother, so that’ll be fun…

You, Shadow and Lae get breakfast after shooting the shit for a couple hours. The smell of eggs and potatoes fills the air as the three of you reach the bottom floor of the dorm. It's bustling with people, all trying to get somewhere. It's Sunday, and classes start tomorrow, so people are scrambling to get their textbooks before they go on backorder. The three of you part ways to put together a plate, and eventually come back together at a booth next to a window.

"Ugh, I was enjoying having a break. Back to the grind for me I suppose."

Shadowheart sighs, moving cheesy eggs around on her plate.

"You love it, don't act like you're not a workaholic."

Before they can start arguing again, a stressed man comes over to talk to Shadowheart.

"Is it true? Did Astarion really tell your entire floor to come to me if they have an issue?"

"Oh Gale, it's sweet that you're even asking. Of course he did."

Gale puts his head in his hands.

"I'm going to kill him. Mind if I sit Shadow?"

"Not at all. Tav, this is Gale, artist extraordinaire, TA for Ms. Mystra."

"Yes, it is indeed I. Thank you for the wondrous introduction Shadow."

Finally, someone's major here has piqued your interest.

"Oh, what do you study?"

"All kinds of things, but my thesis is going to be a series of paintings."

Lae'zel rolls her eyes.

"The arts. So silly, what a waste."

She stabs her eggs with her fork.

"Why, are you thinking of majoring in some kind of art?"

You shrug.

"Honestly, I don't really know yet."

Shadowheart almost spits out her water.

"You... you don't know your major? This place is going to eat you alive."

She and Gale laugh to themselves, but it doesn't bother you. She's not wrong after all, it's odd that you haven't picked a major at this point. There are just too many good options.

"Well, you could be like Lae'zel and study something boring like history."

Shadow playfully nudges her arm, to which she grumbles.

"I didn't come here for a degree idiot, I came here to run."

It's silent for a moment, before Gale solemnly speaks up.

"How is it by the way? Your leg?"

She almost seems sad, but quickly shifts her expression.

"It's fine."

And that's the end of that conversation. Gale doesn't pry any further, but it clearly has him concerned. You realize you actually don't know what's wrong with her leg, other than that it's stiff when she walks. Before you can ask what happened, Shadowheart interrupts.

"Holy shit. Who is that Gale?!"

You turn inconspicuously to where she's looking, and you see the skater from last night, Karlach.

"Oh, she just transferred. Karlach. Apparently the best wrestler we've had in years."

"She looks like she could carry me to safety..."

You smirk.

"Shadow, you're staring at her."

She quickly averts her gaze, blushing.

"Right. My bad."

It's too late though, because the wrestler is now walking towards your table.

"Hey there! Sup Gale?"

"Nothing much Karlach. The dorm treating you well?"

"Oh hell yeah. I just thought I'd come over because your friend was staring at me, didn't know if she needed something."

The woman's voice is a little playful, almost as if she knows Shadow was staring for... unsavory purposes.

"No- I... I'm sorry. You're fine, I don't need anything. I mean, I need some things, like food and water and-"

Gale turns to her, mouthing something along the lines of 'shut up.'

"Well, alright. Good to see you Gale! Off to get some breakfast."

Karlach then winks at Shadowheart, before sauntering off. You're in shock from the massive flirting that just happened in front of you, and Gale is as well. Lae'zel is ignoring it all, still stabbing away at her eggs.

"Shadow... how did you even manage to pull that off."

"I have no idea because I certainly panicked! But dear Goddess do I NEED her to crush me."

You and Gale laugh.

"What! I'm serious, she could destroy me with those thighs and I would thank her."

"You're going to scare off your new friend Shadowheart. Tav, I apologize on her behalf. She doesn't know how to act around buff women."

"It's alright! I think it's sweet. You two would be cute."

How the competitions will work on the figure skaters AU

Chapter 2 is up! Like I said from the previous post, the story will use the 2019-2020 season structure and here's why.

disclaimer: I'm not an expert in this but I researched as much as I can so I hope this is as accurate as possible. I didn't use the latest season structure because it wouldn't fit into the timeline so far.

The seasons prior to this one has a different qualifying structure. All disciplines (singles, pairs, ice dance) start competing at 9 regional events. The top 4 of each disciplines advance to the 3 sectional competitions (Eastern, Midwestern, West Pacific). And again, the top 4 of each earns a spot at the National Championships.

so: Regionals—Sectionals—Championships

Season 2019-2020

The National Qualifying Series (NQS) was introduced. It is a series of competitions where athletes earn a score*, receive a placement in the individual competition they enter, and an overall national ranking in their level and a regional and sectional ranking. The qualifying structure was changed to:

singles: NQS or Regionals—Sectionals—Championships

pairs/ice dance: NQS or Sectionals—Finals—Championships

So basically, competing in the NQS will allow Wednesday and Tyler to have an opportunity to immediately advance to the US Ice Dance Finals without having to compete in the sectionals. This is called having a "bye" that speeds up an athlete/team's process in competing for nationals. Like, you're literally saying bye to all the qualifying process lol

Then, the top 4 placers for Sectional Singles Final and top 12 placers for US Pairs/Ice Dance Finals earns a spot for the national championships. This is what it looks like:

*the score being referred to in here is the Technical Elements Score (TES). In order for senior-level athletes and teams (like Wednesday and Tyler) to compete for the championships, they must earn the minimum TES prescribed for the season. This is important because here's the catch: even if an athlete places on the top spots of Sectional Singles and US Finals but didn't meet the minimum TES, their spot for nationals won't be given to them.

However, the NQS competitions are actually not mandatory. It's just a way for athletes to get a chance to have a "bye" for the finals (not the championships). TES may be attained—aside from competing at an NQS event—through a Regional or Sectional Challenge (singles), a Sectional or U.S. Final (pairs/dance), or any international competition. The TES that would be recorded is the highest score you got from a competition you participated in.

Another thing about NQS is that ice dance competitions are scarce compared to singles and pairs. These competitions are spread out and far from each other which makes it difficult for ice dancers—the discipline that Wednesday and Tyler competes in—because you would have to spend more resources (like travel money) if you want to participate in more than one competition. For instance, this year's NQS calendar only has FOUR ice dance competitions out of twenty. (located in Texas, New York, Cali, and Penn)

Now that Wednesday is left with no partner, with the NQS competitions coming into a wrap, the only way for her to still participate in the USFS Championships is to advance through the ice dance sectionals competition in October—with a new partner 👀

So that's it! I have the next two or three chapters plotted out including the one about how Enid will become Wednesday's partner, all that's left is to write it. I have not mentioned what the ratings are, because a number of the Chinese fics don't really rate in the way Eng fics do, I've read G rated fics that have an E rated chapter sometimes. It’s so hot.

Which, given the amount he’s had to drink this evening, is no surprise. It’s a common joke between Obi-Wan’s friends that his complaining about the warm temperature of a room is the tell-tale signal that he’s crossed the threshold into drunkenness. 

He doesn’t feel drunk, though. Not entirely anyway.

Some fresh air is all he needs. 

It’s been several years now since those extended weekends here throughout his time at university. He’s passed out on just about every flat surface in the house. Everyone always coveted an invite to Padmé’s family's vacation home on Lake Naboo. Most uni students barely had a proper flat to call their own, while Padmé had a summer house. It was impossible to hold Padmé’s wealth against her, though. Not when she made everyone she met feel as if they were part of her own family.

Obi-Wan slips through the doors onto the large balcony that overlooks the lake.

“Oh,” he says, seeing he’s not alone. “I’m sorry. I —”

“S’fine,” the man says, waving him off. He’s holding a half-full flute of champagne and it sloshes to the rim as he gestures. “I’m…I’m just taking a break.”

Obi-Wan nods, and leans against the railing, placing a comfortable distance between himself and the stranger.

“I needed some fresh air,” he says.

The lake is frozen over, as it always is this time of year. Faint lines from morning skaters can be seen criss-crossing over the thick ice. Obi-Wan isn’t sure he even remembers how to skate anymore.

“I’m Anakin, by the way.”

Obi-Wan almost chokes. “You’re…”

The man gives a sideways grin. “Welcome to my lovely home.” The smallest of hiccups punctuates his quip.

“I…I shouldn’t be wandering around —”

Anakin waves him off again. “Please. I know you. You’re Obi-Wan Kenobi.”

“I am,” he stammers. “I don’t think we’ve met…”

“Nope. But Padmé talks about you all the time.”

Guilt overwhelms Obi-Wan. “I was sorry to...to miss the wedding.”

Anakin shrugs, then takes a sip of his drink. “Padmé was pretty pissed.”

“Yes. I know.”

“Got married right here,” Anakin says, swinging his arms around to showcase the veranda. This time, his champagne does slosh over the rim of his glass.

“I saw pictures. It looked like a lovely ceremony.”

“Do you smoke?”

“Pardon?”

Anakin hiccups. “Neither do I.”

Obi-Wan must be drunker than he thought, because suddenly Anakin is the funniest person he’s ever met. He snorts in laughter, then uses the sleeve of his jumper to wipe at his nose.

“Y’know,” Anakin says, “Padmé always said we’d be good friends.” He looks over at Obi-Wan and cocks his head. “What d’you think?”

“I’ve been told I’m agreeable enough.”

It’s Anakin’s turn to laugh. He doesn’t hold back in the same way Obi-Wan does, instead throwing his head back and practically cackling to the sky. “I’m pretty sure I’m the most disagreeable person ever.”

“That can’t be true.”

“Sure it can.”

“Well—”

“See?” Anakin grins. 

“How did you and Padmé meet? I’m afraid I…” Obi-Wan clears his throat. “I’m afraid I lost touch for a bit.”

Anakin rolls his eyes and downs the rest of his champagne. “Yeah. I heard.” He shrugs his shoulders. “What can I say? Padmé likes younger men.”

Obi-Wan chuckles. “How lucky for you.”

“Damn right.” He looks around and frowns. “Do you mind if I sit down?”

“There’s a bench just — oh.” Anakin has plopped down into the settled snow. “Alright.” He finds himself sitting down on the ground, too. His trousers are sure to be drenched after this, but he’s too intoxicated to care.

“So why’d you come?”

“What?” Obi-Wan questions.

“Tonight. Padmé’s been trying to see you for years.”

“Oh. Well…” Where to even begin. It was never Padmé’s fault. What happened to Qui-Gon, it…it was complicated. And, now, looking back, he wishes he had done so many things differently. He’d been hurt and angry and confused and — it had been easy to shut everyone out and disappear.

“It was time,” Obi-Wan says simply.

“One AM, I think.”

“What?”

“Did you ask —” Anakin stops, then throws his head back in laughter again, this time slamming the back of his head against the railing. “Never mind,” he manages through his laughter.

Obi-Wan begins to laugh, too. “So why are you out here? Instead…of —”

“I hate people.”

Obi-Wan lifts his eyebrows in surprise. “All people?”

“Most of them. Except for Padmé. You seem okay, but I think you’d be more boring if you were less drunk.”

“If I was less drunk?” Obi-Wan cries in outrage. “I beg your pardon, but —”

“Hey look.” A smile splits across Anakin’s face. “It’s snowing.”

There's an altercation, Iceman and Mav call Goose and Slider oaves and say Ice Hockey is a perversion of the ice. As a tidbit, Goose doesn't have his hockey jersey when he shows up at practice, only to remember that Carole's wearing it, after a particularly interesting night. She does run into the rink carrying the Jersey, Goose skates over and gives her a smooch. She's also the biggest fan of their hockey team
