We Deserve Better
I have just started watching PRIDE: To Be Seen by Soul of a Nation. The opening has left me angry and tired, because once again, Los Angeles gets completely ignored and written out of queer history.
The documentary starts with Alok saying, “Iconic leaders who started Pride, by protesting that fateful night at Stonewall in 1969. They'd had enough.”
A few minutes later, Cara Delevingne says, “It's been more than fifty years since trans and queer people rebelled at New York Stonewall inn.”
I want to be clear - I have no problems with Alok or Cara. However, these statements are not true. They are factually wrong, and immedietly bring the entire documentary’s legitimacy into question - if the first five minutes can’t get the most basic facts about Pride’s origin right, what does that say about the rest of it?
The literal definition of a documentary is “a movie or a television or radio program that provides a factual record or report.” It’s not a true documentary if it has no fact-checkers, or worse - so called ‘fact-checkers’ who sign off on lies.
Here are the facts:
“But it wasn't only a much freer way of life that vast and populous Los Angeles made possible for the exiles. Los Angeles also freed them to think in new ways, break new ground, and serve as midwives to the worldwide GLBT movements. Where was the first lesbian magazine in America published? The first gay magazine? Where was the first ongoing gay political organization established? The first GLBT church? The first GLBT synagogue? The first GLBT community center? The answer is Los Angeles. During the past 50 years, GLBT life has been dramatically transformed all over America and in Western Europe, and Los Angeles has led the way.” - Lillian Faderman
1947: 1st lesbian mag Vice Versa.
1950: Harry Hay started the Mattachine Society.
1953: 1st gay mag ONE.
1954: first gay motorcycle club, the Satyrs MC.
1958: ONE mag had 1st LGBTQ win in the Supreme Court.
1959: 1st LGBTQ riot against police, the Cooper Do-nuts riot.
1966: 1st PRIDE organization (and use of the word “pride” in queer context), Personal Rights through Defense and Education. 1966: 1st LBTQ parade, 15 car motorcade by the Los Angeles Committee to Fight Exclusion of Homosexuals from the Armed Forces.
1966/67: new years eve Black Cat Tavern raid & protests against police.
1967: PRIDE starts the The Los Angeles Advocate in response to Black Cat (is renamed The Advocate in 1969).
1968: First gay church, the Metropolitan Community Church founded & did 1st public marriage. 1968: GLF did 1st Gay-In festivals, Griffith Park.
1968: The Patch bar, led by owner Lee Glaze, did flower-power protest in LAPD station.
1969: The Los Angeles LGBT Center started as The Gay Community Services Center, 1st service center and 1st nonprofit to have the word 'gay' in its name, in 1971 created 1st houses for homeless LGBTQ ppl “Liberation Houses”; today it is the largest LGBTQ facility in the world.
1970: 1st legally permitted pride parade, L.A. Gay Pride Parade (won supreme court battle over it; moved from Hollywood to West Hollywood in 1979).
1971: Gay Women’s Service Center started in Echo Park.
1972: 1st LGBTQ synagogue, Beth Chayim Chadashim.
1988: 1st black gay magazine BLK.
Overview: The books Gay L.A. by Lillian Faderman and Lavender Los Angeles by Roots of Equality
You can find information about all of these events on google. There is no excuse for this trend of misinformation to continue. Give Los Angeles the credit we deserve.

I think Orym is a fascinating character in a way that is often underappreciated, because he is fundamentally a soldier, he was trained as a soldier, and that's... not a bad thing? It has no moral indication, and certainly doesn't imply that Orym is going dark. In fact, in the current circumstances, Orym acting as a soldier is very important and may actually get them through this in one piece.
I do feel that this aspect of his character is frequently approached in the fandom as an afterthought or even swept under the rug, or flat out viewed as a flaw to be overcome (especially given the overall landscape of military conflict in the real world), but being a trained soldier is not inherently indicative of specific morality or ideology. I think it's a judgment that also gets levied against paladins, because, much like any organized forces in fantasy are equated with modern militaries, fantasy worship is equated with Christianity (sometimes in the guise of 'organized religion' with all of its problematic connotations). It's incredibly black and white, and it doesn't fundamentally make sense in much of Exandria, but in this case especially.
You cannot fundamentally map the Tempest Blades onto any real life military, because the task of the Tempest, and Ashari culture as a whole, is protection against both extraplanar threats and also the malicious or misguided intentions of those on the Material Plane trying to fuck with the elemental planes. This is distinctly different even in universe from, for instance, Caleb, who was trained as an assassin in the name of nationalism, or Yasha, who was trained to be a leader in the name of tribalism.
And these two threats that the Ashari are tasked with resisting are both frequent, credible, and existential! Failing at this task is liable to have major sweeping repercussions for the rest of Exandria! It is highly probable that a soldier with Orym's training is expected to need to make incredibly difficult decisions in defense of the common good at more than one point in their life—decisions that would make every person who laughs at the premise of the trolley problem shit their pants.
And crucially, Orym wants his friends to get out of this. He has in fact already promised his entire life to ensure that they do, because he also fundamentally needs them to be able to do what they came for, without hesitation, because the singular mandate that he has devoted himself to is protecting the Material Realm from extraplanar threats, and regardless of the fact that the rest of them do not have the same training, that is also the task that the Hells have chosen.
If Nana Morri can get the Hells out in one piece, regardless of what choices they make, then their personal risk doesn't matter. I imagine that Orym isn't going to tell them that, because given the scope of the threat, there's not necessarily a guarantee that Morri can make that happen, so the rest of the Hells have to make the choice themselves to take the risk and trust that the others have their backs. And in the end, if Orym has to live with that no matter which way fate plays out, he will. He's already had plenty of practice.
They're at war, and that's how soldiers operate. Because when they're behind enemy lines, it's the only way missions get completed and they have a chance of making it back alive.

the soul of the person you are trying to resurrect is not currently available?, please try your ritual again, later?
Superman was dead, the Justice League took advantage of a lull in their shitty situation to try to revive him. But instead of their Superman, someone else was in his body, making their eyes shine lazarus green, or Kryptonite green, depending on who you ask.
The "intruder" look at the members of the Justice League with some confusion for a moment, rubbing their necks. and said with embarrassment:
The soul of the person you are trying to resurrect is not currently available?, please try your ritual again, later?
or Superman's soul (not yet a ghost because still not "wake up") is held captive by the GiW and is therefore unavailable for resurrection. Danny, as prince, was the replacement soul chosen by the kingdoms... even though he had to put paused his attack plan against the GiW due to the rush to protect his city from the ongoing apocalipse.
The GiW took advantage of the semi-public ceremony after Superman's death to set a trap for a possible alien ghost, which against all odds worked (having a catatonic target helps). Tucker learned about superan after having searched their servers because the phantom team had noticed that the GiW had been less urgent and on their feedback seemed particularly satisfied with themselves. Since the Phantom team organized an attack to free him
Slightly different version tomorrow

Hetalia nations having the only remaining copy of their favorite play or book. Special first editions of certain books, sometimes gifted by the author themself. Portraits done by artists no one else cares to remember. Stories never written down that they only remember parts of and wish they could share again with their people. Little knick knacks they picked up over the centuries with value only to them. Things that remind them of who they are, who they used to be, that are so important they can't part with them.
Then there are those things that only live in their memory, that they wish they could see again but it just wouldn't be the same.

Thinking about this fanart and how Sanji would have a hard time accepting his feelings for Usopp, but the second he's drunk he turns into a deeply honest drunk without any filter. And he just keeps being clingy to Usopp, whispering stuff in his ear and telling him how much he cares about him. He definitely drops the "I think you're my best friend" when he's drunk. Which is not much and it doesn't have to be romantic, but it feels more romantic than anything he has ever said out loud. And it breaks Usopp's heart every time to realize he'd never say these things sober. Zoro always stares at them while drinking, keeping an eye on them in case Sanji might actually hurt Usopp. It always makes me go insane to think about Sanji confessing drunk but denying it the next morning, not because he doesn't love Usopp or because he wants to play with him, but because he's frightened.

finn wolfhard is genuinely sick for this scene, i truly believe this is his best performance this season. like he made it so clear that mike wheeler is in love with will byers. mike is literally looking at him as if will hung the moon and stars, lit up the sun and painted the entire landscape around them.
