Note to my Past Self: For all the times you doubted that pursuing your degree programs was worth it… it is. 💕
After 7 years of post-secondary education, and three degrees (soon to be 4 and a teaching credential), I finally got an interview for a full-time teaching position. In less than 24 hours, I was offered the position. I accepted.
The feeling of realizing you’re almost there, and that your hard work will be worth it, is an incredible feeling. And getting that phone call with the job position offer, makes your heart skip a beat, and leaves you overwhelmed with so many emotions. It’s such a surreal feeling and gives you so much energy and passion for your career path, even when it’s that time of year where you’re exhausted.
Keep going. It is so worth it when you can finally see the finish line. ✨👩🏼‍🏫

Not a very aesthetic picture but that’s because my house is under renovation and I don’t really have a desk I can sit at at the moment.
Honestly, I can’t wait until this semester is over because it’s been a struggle schedule-, stress-, and health-wise. Also I have a STACK of books I want to read and I picked up my love of reading again over the summer :’)

Summer Motivation Tag
I was tagged by @bujo-ie (like my awesome friend, check her out!)
So I honestly think it's good to keep some goals for the holidays now exams are over so I thought this would be awesome to also motivate others to motivate themselves!
1. Finally make a dent in Japanese
I've been wanting to do this for a while, I finally have free time
2. Become 3 star training by the end of summer
I do Army Cadets and we have a system of levels? I joined super late than recommended so it'd be cool if I could do more but in a short amount of time, since exams are over I can put more effort into this.
3. Keep revising for next year!
I'm on holiday! This is the most crucial time to keep training your brain! So I want to revise the subjects I want to do in Sixth Form
4. Not worry about August/results day
This is so important because I don't want to stress for 2/3 of my holidays over grades that'll affect one day of my holidays
That's it really, anyone that sees this post is free to do this tag, tag me in it if you do!!

I’m one step closer to being a teacher! I passed both cycles of the California Teacher Performance Assessment (CalTPA) - also known as the credentialing exam process in California. 🥳 Now to finish my credential program and graduate with my master’s in teaching. 😌

|| 07.22.23 || It brings me so much joy that I’m finally able to write full-on daily and unit lesson plans. To make it fun, I’ve been adding mathematical comics such as this one (first image) to my cover pages. Here’s an example of an angle relationship problem I formed, too (second image). Very excited to start my student teaching in August! 💁🏼‍♀️👩🏼‍🏫

The Spring 2023 semester started this week. ☀️ It’s been lovely to have clear skies and sunshine, in contrast to the prior two weeks of rain. ✨
Here’s some of my notes from my first Real Analysis lecture. I was concerned when I first saw the syllabus, but felt better once the instructor explained it further.
The countdown to graduation can officially begin! 117 days. 👩🏼‍🎓

Week 2 is officially done! Got my work and school schedules finalized. Let me tell you - grateful for Outlook Calendar, otherwise I’d forget things in my day. 🗓️ Was able to get some extra sleep in this weekend, thankfully, after all of last week’s chaos. 😴
Anywho - here’s some of my notes on mathematics in early civilizations. I am having a blast in my History of Mathematics course. My teacher even brought in real papyrus from Egypt, last week! Have a lovely week, everyone. ☺️ (105 days till graduation! 🎓)

Do you have any activities (non school related) that you feel aid in your education journey?
Hi, Anon! Yes - absolutely! I feel engaging in my hobbies have helped me immensely in my education. Sometimes when I’m struggling to think or focus, engaging in my hobbies is the perfect mental break I need. Plus, if I have a problem I’m struggling with, it has time to process sub-consciously. ♥️
I used to knit a lot, but have recently gotten into cross-stitch and embroidery. I also picked up my instrument again and am trying to join an ensemble on campus. Being active in a music program has always been therapeutic for me, and typically results in getting better grades. At least in my experience.

Also, living in California means I’m not too far from nature. I love to go on hiking and camping trips when given the opportunity. 🌲🌿
Basically, explore your interests and do things you enjoy, that are not at all connected to your academics. It’s hard to remember to take care of yourself sometimes, and not doing so means you’ll burn yourself out. This does more harm than good long term. It’s a great way to practice self-care and mindfulness, but to also give yourself a chance to get away from the “chaos” of school.

What was your lowest & highest points in college so far?
Love love love this question! Thank you, Anon! 💙
To answer your question, some background on my college education as of Nov. 2022:
I completed 3 years of community/junior college and got two associate degrees. I then transferred to my four year university and finishing my B.S. degree (graduating in May 2023) before pursuing my single-subject credential; I have been here for 3 years. So, I’ll have taken 6 years to complete my undergraduate degree. Note that I am at a public four year, state college in the U.S., so your education system in your state/country may differ.

Lowest Points:
Mental Health Problems. My mental health medications stop working my second year of college. Starting from square one and working with my doctor for eight months to find the right treatment was hard. But if you need help, please don’t be afraid to reach out to others! You can’t do well academically if your mental and physical health are in bad shape.
Moving Out. After living with my parents for 20 years, I was so eager to move out and be independent. But I got homesick a lot sooner than I’d expected. I also miss having my pets as a daily part of my life.
Financial Stressors. Having to work while in school full-time, especially with a rigorous program, is stressful. Take advantage of applying to any/all scholarships or financial aid you can! Seriously - I’ve had my grades fall because I was worried I couldn’t pay rent. Also - check in with your university’s basic needs programs. You may be eligible for affordable housing services, food stamps, and many other federally funded programs! Being a college student practically qualifies you for the majority of these.
Highest Points:
Starting Therapy. Best thing I’ve ever done for myself. I’ve learned a lot of coping strategies for hard life situations. I’ve also learned to manage my anxiety a lot better! It’s also just nice to have an unbiased opinion. Plus it’s super helpful to have somebody hold you accountable and remind you to take care of yourself.
Taking Risks. I usually go with the safest route and tend not to stray from my comfort zone. However, I’ve learned to take more risks and step out of my comfort zone more often. It’s not only provided me with a lot of valuable experiences (good and bad), but also a ton of unique opportunities I’d have most likely not been offered otherwise.
Getting Involved. I’ve volunteered a lot of hours in local Grades 6-12 classrooms, beyond what is required for my degree. It’s provided me with so many unique insights as a future teacher. I’ve also made a lot of valuable connections this way. Being involved in your specific college (for example, my program is in the College of Natural Sciences) and their events is extremely valuable.
My Advice: Be your authentic self. Don’t be afraid to show who you are, because you will find a group that accepts you for who you are. Do what you need to in order to set yourself up for success and to take care of yourself.
I hope this was the kind of answer you were looking for, and good luck Anon! 💙
