One day I’ll learn how to do backgrounds 😭
This one took far longer than I was anticipating because 1) there are three figures to draw and 2) the sports illustrated cover I was inspired by was photoshopped to all hell and I spent hours trying to make their weirdo proportions look normal 😂
This is the pièce de résistance of the Captain America Swimsuit edition series! I’ve got plenty more ideas for pinups coming up and I may even do some more beachy pinups this summer. Looking forward to some fall/winter ideas coming up tho.
Also! You can now get these designs as stickers and prints through my Redbubble shop! You can find this design here: https://www.redbubble.com/i/sticker/Beach-Bums-by-Pinup-Pigeon/148282600.EJUG5?asc=u

Title: Keeping Watch AO3: Part of “SamSteve Bingo 2022 Moodboards” Rating: General Warnings: None Relationship: Steve Rogers/Sam Wilson Word Count: 100 Additional Tags: Moodboard, Drabble, Fluff, Canon Compliant, Post-Captain America: Civil War (Movie), Minor Wanda Maximoff/Natasha Romanov, Background Relationships, Civil War Team Captain America, Protective Steve Rogers, Team as Family, Fugitives, On the Run, Hotels, Reflection Summary: It was hard. It was exhausting.  Notes: For the @samstevebingo2022 prompt “Found Family.”
Sometimes Steve thought about how their lives had managed to become even stranger, more unstable than they were before.
Bouncing from motel to motel. Chasing leads where they could. Covert check-ins in Iowa, San Francisco, and Wakanda. Staying three, four, five steps ahead of Ross and his goons.
It was hard. It was exhausting.
And yet, as Steve laid awake - Sam sleeping soundly in his arms, Wanda and Nat in the room next door, and as certain as he could be that the others were safe, too - he couldn’t regret his choice.
They had each other.
That’s all that mattered.

First love at sixteen makes the world feel like the two of you would last forever. That person was the one. 2nd love was to teach you what love was like as an adult. Everything wasn’t quick kisses behind the lockers and holding hands in the hallways. It was shared apartments and bills 3rd love brought back that teenage innocents. Stolen kisses in supplies closets and shiny rings that were supposed to mean forever. Once the rose-colored glasses break and you learn that you both were wrong for each other. Fourth love didn’t exist. It felt like love was just not for you.
—--------------------------------------
Steve walked into the office with his bag on one shoulder and his new ad campaign prototype. Today was a big deal with him showcasing his new design for Veggie Squares. The presentation wasn’t the issue. The issue was that the guy who would be buying the artwork and he had to impress was his ex-husband, Tony Stark. Not a big deal right? Not like Tony broke his heart on a random Tuesday with divorce papers on the table.
“What is that,” Natasha walked up with a smoothie in hand.
Natasha was Steve’s close friend at work and also the director of advertising. She is tough with her being ex-CIA and was a ranking Mariane before retiring and setting in a corporate setting. She exceeds very well in and became head director in just three months.
“The new campaign. Think Stark’s going to like it.”
“If it's yours then he will love it,” Natasha teased.
Steve rolled his eyes as they boarded the elevator to the sixth floor where the meeting was to be held. Steve knew that she was trying to make light of an awkward situation but it didn’t make it any better.
Steve took a deep breath walking into the board room with several executives that Steve knew he should know the names of but couldn’t remember at the time. At the same time, they probably didn’t know his either.
As he continued to the front of the table there sat the man he loved with all of his heart. The same one he gave everything to and more, There he was sitting with an even smile. All business.
“Good afternoon, to the great employees of Stark enterprise.”
—----------------------------------------------------------------------
The presentation was finally over. Steve felt good about it but in this line of work, you couldn’t feel good about anything. He thanked the suits for their time, grabbed his campaign, and walked out of the room. He had other duties he needed to complete before the end of the day. Steve also wanted to get as far away from Tony as he could.
“Hey, Steve, wait.”
Steve turned around to see Tony jogging after him. Steve stopped waiting for the other man to catch up. Steve eyed him, wondering what he wanted. They hadn’t spoken outside of work matters since the finalizing of the divorce.
“Hey, Steve, um, your presentation was amazing and we would love to use it.” Tony shrugged fixing the sleeve of his suit.
“That's great, I will send you the files by this afternoon.”
“How is life? I like the new look.”
Steve rubbed the beard he grew for the first time and the long hair that was now at his ears. He definitely didn’t look like the same guy. Steve liked it.
“Uh, thanks. You look good too Tony.”
Tony gave him a sheepish smile. The silence grew between them. There never was silence between them. There was always something to talk about from the newest movie to the latest news article. Now nothing.
“Steve, I’m,”
Steve stopped him with a wave of a hand and a smile. Steve didn’t to hear those words from Tony because from his perspective Steve was ready to move on.
“Nice to see you Tony, I will get the campaign to you soon.”
—--------------------------------------------------------
Steve might have moved on but that mean the thought of saying goodbye to Tony still didn’t hurt him. Thankfully the workday was over and he could go home to a beer and his sketchbook. That's what he thought he was going to do until Natasha ambushed him in the elevator.
“Come on, come out with us and have some fun. After the day you had, we should celebrate.”
Steve looked down at her pleading green eyes knowing he had lost the fight. He sighed allowing her to pull him out of the building, down the street, and into the bar they often frequent. Natasha let go of his hand to run towards a man sitting on a bar stool.
Steve could only see the back of him.  He had shoulder-length hair and a leather jacket. Steve could see he was wearing black gloves probably to go with the motorcycle he had to be driving. Natasha waved him over snapping out of his analysis. As he walked closer the man turned around to see who Natasha was calling over. Amazingly, he saw the last person he thought he had ever seen.
“Bucky.”
Bucky looked at him with the same confused look he would have on his face after they lost their five dollars in a sewer drain. Natasha looked back and forth between the two men.
“Do you two know each other,” Natasha pointed between them.
Steve stared at Bucky not knowing what to say. Buck was his first love. The boy that made his heart beat too fast for his little body at the time. They met when they were only five years old on the playground. They grew up just a few streets apart from each other. Steve, the boy with handy-down clothes and asthma fell in love with Bucky, the boy from a riched, military family, who had everything he needed and more. That same boy who could have the world fall for the poor boy. There he stood a few inches away.
“Yeah, we do. We were childhood friends,” Bucky said.
Steve squinted his eyes at him. Why didn’t he say they used to date? High school sweethearts that planned on getting married until Buck signed up for the military leaving Steve behind.
“Yeah, we were. We grew up in Brooklyn together just a few streets apart. Sadly lost touch with each other.”
The air became weird. No one was saying anything as they continued to look at each other. Steve excused him to the bathroom, trying to break the awkwardness. As Steve pushed the door open he felt another hand grabbing the door behind him. He turned to see that Bucky had followed him.
“Why didn’t you tell her,” Steve asked. If he had to admit himself he was kinda irritated.
Bucky shrugged his shoulders. “It wasn’t on purpose, Steve. What was I going to say to my girlfriend who wants to just have a good night out by the way, that I used to date her coworker and I haven’t seen him in about thirty years.”
“Why did you never come back,” Steve asked.
“I’m not doing this here, Steve,” Bucky turned back around walking out.
Well if Buck wasn’t going to bring it up then Steve was going to. Natasha deserved full transparency if she was going to date Bucky.
—------------------------------
Steve spilled his beer as he watched Natasha play with Bucky’s hair. Steve hated his air and his overgrown beard. He looked homeless and dirty. Not like the clean-cut boy he knew. Buck kissed a spot on the inside of her neck and whispered something that Steve couldn’t hear to make her laugh. Steve huffed which made them turn to him.
“So, how did you two meet?”
Natasha looked over at Buck with sober eyes. Buck nodded meaning for her to go ahead to share their story.
“Bucky was my Captain in the Marines but then we both left and became partners at the CIA. It wasn’t a good fit for any of us. If we could only tell you what we went through.” Natasha glanced down placing a hand on Buck’s knee.
Buck pulled the glove off of his left hand to reveal a metal hand that traveled into his jacket sleeve. Steve's eyes went wide at the knowledge of Bucky losing his arm. As Steve looked closer he could see the haunted look in Buck’s eyes. The same bright-eyed kid that would drag him to the science fair had been replaced by a man with secrets. Mainly, Steve didn’t want to know.
“We got in some trouble for being together so they broke us up. Lost touch for years until..”
Bucky embraced Natasha’s hand bringing it to his lips and placing a light kiss. Natasha gave a small smile as she continued their story. They ran into each other at the theater down the block. Then it was like they were never apart. They picked up right where they left off. Steve had no right to be jealous of the way they looked. Buck never looked at him like he gave him a home. That didn’t mean he still wasn’t.
Steve stood up giving them both a nice parting greeting and left. He needed to go before he said something he would regret. He pulled out his phone knowing the person that would make his night much better.
—-----------------------------
Steve slammed back against the bed as he tried to catch his breath. What’s that saying, to get over someone you need to get under someone else. That was just what he did a few times around.
“So, Bucky is back,” Sam asked as he looked around the room for his boxer.
Sam Wilson, the boy that gave Steve his first kiss. The boy that dared him to jump off the harbor when he was sixteen. The boy that knew him just as well as Buck. Maybe more. Sam and Steve had an arrangement that if either one of them need to blow off some steam then they could call and blow something to get their mind off whatever was plaguing their thoughts.
“Yeah, he is and he’s dating Natasha,” Steve spat. “Again!”
Sam turned around shrugging his shoulders. Him and Buck were just as close but they had a different relationship than what either Steve had with the both of them. Sam often could since Buck’s bullshit. Call him out on it then would have to apologize for it since Steve begged for him to play nice. Steve should have kept his mouth shut. Buck would say something that would piss Sam off, leading them to fight in the grass, the school, or Steve’s house. There was that one time they fought so badly that they both fell into the lake.
“Why do you care?”
Steve stared at Sam. What kind of question was that? “I don’t but isn’t it weird he’s been back and no contact? It’s not like either of us is hard to find.”
Sam threw up his boxers in the air as a victory after it took him ten minutes to find them. Steve and Sam aren’t gentle when they get in their moods. Steve rips off all of Sam’s clothes as he can leading them scattered in the weirdest place. The boxers this time in the lampshade that was nowhere near them when the boxers were ripped off of Sam.
“I don’t know. I haven’t been keeping tabs on him. Honestly, I don’t care if he never comes back. For one he left us over ten years ago,”
Steve stared at the ceiling thinking over what Sam was saying. He was right. It still hurt. Buck was the one until he wasn’t anymore. They made plans about their futures that were replaced by disappearing and no phone calls. Now he was with Natasha. Natasha was a spitfire with a soft heart. Steve knew she could handle herself but also knew if Buck ever walked away as he did to Steve. It would break her heart.
—--------------
“Natasha, I need to talk to you,” Steve yelled running down the hall of their office building.
Natasha turned around with her phone to her ear and a finger pointing at him to give her a minute.
“Yes, that sounds good. 3’oclock works.” She hangs up the phone placing it in her back pocket. “What’s up?”
Steve looked around as he saw everyone they worked with staring at them, waiting for the hot gossip. Steve shook his head guiding her into an empty conference room. What needed to be said was needed to be said in private.
“Bucky and I were way more than childhood friends. We actually dated,” he breathed out.
Natasha’s face was blank. Steve’s heart was about to burst out of his chest waiting for an answer. Then she began to laugh. Like a deep belly-rolling laugh. Steve stared at her not understanding what was funny. He just said that her boyfriend lied to her and that he used to date him. It was like she was unfazed.
“Steve, I don’t care. What was this teenage love? Did he take you to prom?”
Buck and Steve did go to prom together, twice but he didn’t understand why that mattered.
“Steve, I had a high school boyfriend too. His name was Ivan. He was from Russia and he couldn’t find the g spot. You and Buck dating doesn’t matter. Buck and I have a very long and complicated history that I don’t feel like getting into. So, why don’t we move on and you and Sam come over tonight for some drinks.” She patted him on the shoulder and left him alone in the empty room.
Maybe it wasn’t a big deal that Buck took his heart and broke it setting him up for disaster expectations for relationships. Maybe that was more of his daddy issues that caused him to be attached to cocky, egoistic men of power.
Steve pulled out his phone to text Sam. He already knew the answer and it was no. He begged until finally Sam said yes but he owed him a favor.
—-----------------------------
Steve and Sam stood at the red door, neither one of them knocking on the door. Sam huffed, knocking on the door. Natasha opened the door and gestured them inside, She was no longer in work mode with her long red hair cascading around her shoulders. Buck sat on the other side. He had a long sleeve shirt and jeans on, no gloves. He seemed so much more relaxed and less mysterious than he did when they were all at the bar.
“Hey, guys,” he called at them standing up to hand them both a beer.
Steve took it but Sam waved him off taking a seat on the other side of the room. Steve joined him sinking into the couch next to him. The group fell into small talk. Natasha and him talking about work. Sam talked about his sister and the boat his dad used to fish he wanted to fix up. Buck was quiet only saying a few words. Steve looked over at him noticing the stiffness in his shoulders. Must be from years of military service. One thing about Buck was he was never quiet but people change.
Steve could note how in love he was with Natasha. Buck’s eyes never left hers. He studied every part of her like she was going to magically disappear out of thin air. In reality for the quiet man she once did. He continued to follow her even as she left for the kitchen to grab a tray of brownies.
“You love her,” it wasn’t really a question but more a statement Steve directed to Buck.
Bucky, not turning away formed a small smile that Steve knew reached Bucky’s eyes. The same smile he was on the receiving end many years ago. Bucky turned to them and nodded. His eyes were slightly wet.
“I love her more than the moon could love the sun.”
Steve understood. The moon and the sun only meet in short bursts but still fell in love at passes until they finally meet during an eclipse. Natasha eclipsed Bucky’s heart. Steve, even if he wanted to, could never eclipse Buck’s heart.
Steve stood up to go to the bathroom. Round the corner he overheard Bucky and Sam talking.
“You still have a crush on him,” Bucky asked.
“Yeah but I’ve realized that he will never want me in the way I want him so, I love him enough for the both of us,” Sam said.
Steve ran into the bathroom closing the bathroom door shut and slid down to the floor. How could he never have known? His hand flew to his heart as he gripped it. Sam was always there when he need him. The way his hands held Steve as he fell asleep. Steve realized that he might actually have feelings for Sam. The way Sam’s dark eyes wrinkle at the ends when he laughed at Steve’s dumb jokes. The way he hugged him when Steve felt he might fall apart. Don’t even get him started on the sex. It didn’t feel like a dirty hook-up when he was with Sam. It felt like a long song as their bodies came together in rhythm.
Steve walked out of the bathroom with his heart in his throat. “Sam, can I talk to you…alone?”
“Yeah,” Sam gave him a perplexed look as Steve guided him out to the terrace. “What’s wrong?”
“I overheard you and Buck talk.”
Sam’s eyes grew wide like when he was panicking. He threw up his hands trying to wipe away something that was not there. “Look.. that was. Um, you don’t have to say anything,”
Steve grabbed Sam’s hands to make him stop talking. “I like you too.”
Sam shook his head. “You don’t have to say that just because I like you.”
Steve’s heart broke thinking Sam only thinks he was saying this because he overheard them talking. That just wasn’t the truth. Did Steve just realize his feelings, yes? Deep down he always knew that he liked Sam.
“You know I don’t say anything that I don’t want to. I really do like you and maybe I just realized that since my head has been so far up my ass to see. Then I sat in the bathroom and compiled a list of why and there are so many. Like the way you make a chocolate cake with sour cream since that is how your grandmother taught you how to make it.”
Steve went on and on. Sam just stood there and listen until he couldn’t listen anymore. Sam grabbed hold of Steve’s shirt pulling him in for a kiss. Steve melted into it. It wasn’t like their usual kisses. Hard and quick. This was slow and soft. Sam’s hands gripped the back of Steve’s back pulling him closer. Steve’s hands settled on Sam’s hips as the stars twinkled above them.
They pulled apart to take a deep breath. Sam’s eyes shown bright as a light dust of blush formed on his cheekbones. “Would you like to do on a date?”
“Definitely. I waited my whole life to go on a date with Steve Rogers.”
