Up until then, Dick was just everything for Bruce and since he was written that way, the authors let him stay that way.

The adoption scene and Dick asking why Bruce didn't adopt him...here's an anology. Suppose a kid goes to school and earns a A on every test and the teacher says "good job!" and they both move on. 10 years later another kid comes along and they get an A too. The teacher has now grown in experience and wants to facilitate growth, so they have now started giving every kid that earned an A a gold star sticker on their paper. This kid takes it home to show their older brother who had that same teacher 10 years ago and the brother comments, "Oh, when I went there, she didn't give out stickers!" But now make it about family.

That's what Dick and Bruce's adoption is. The adoption paper is the gold star. Was it needed? No. Does it make people feel better? Yes.

But I don't like this formally making Dick Bruce's son thing. Sure Dick feels better about it but it was pointless and actually takes away from what their relationship really is.

In the comics, Bruce's behavior toward Jason is more parental than his was to Dick. It was more of a "let me teach you" and "ok, so this is how I do it" with Bruce and Jason. It's a teaching moment of father to son guidance. Dick and Bruce's comics were more "this is what I think" and "I see what you're thinking and I'm going to add on to that" relationship. It was a we're both going to do about 50/50 of the work.

Also Jason came to Bruce at a time when Bruce was stable and knowledgable. Dick came to Bruce at a time when Bruce was literally falling apart. If he hadn't met Dick, he would've killed himself from how reckless he was being. Finding Dick, he saved himself too.

Canonically, Dick is described as a foil to Bruce - the light to Bruce's darkness. He acted patiently listened, worked, and understood Bruce. Bruce shared his emotional burden with Dick in a way he was afraid and careful not to do with the others.

He's still doing it.

This excessive parentification of Bruce and Dick's relationship, it's not how they function. DC somehow thinks that their loves needs definition. That it needs clear boundaries to show that Bruce loves Dick but the truth is, the devil's in the details and their relationship is riddled with them. You don't need to tell your best friend you love them, they just know. Both of you do. And DC thinks the only way to tell your best friend you love them is to tell them that which is not true.

That said, their problems only arose because Bruce was overly attached to Dick so I don't think he would've been able to let go without speaking to him. I mean, he did get captured (purposefully?) and expect Dick to just come save him just so they could start talking again during Jason's robin era and I don't know how they would fix their problems but I agree that they shouldn't be quarantined into a tiny, constrictive father and son box. They way they act around each and the demands both of them have of the other to act a certain way isn't how a father expects a son to be or a son expects a father to act. I'm not saying they aren't father and son, I just believe they're more complicated and involved than just that.

Still thinking about a Star trek TOS Firefly au. So I'm gonna have fun writing it out.

I love the dynamic between Mal, Zoe, and Wash, so that's certainly becoming the triumvirate. Mal > Jim, Zoe > Spock, Wash > Bones. However Wash's job doesn't make sense for Bones so he's going to change to doctor.

Jim was on Tarsus 4 and suffered the same as in canon, famine leads to who lives lottery and he wasn't chosen but survived anyway. I think that makes perfect sense in the Firefly universe too, but I think unlike in trek Kodos is celebrated by the federation in Firefly for making tough choices and leading in a strong way. So he's not on the run, he's a constant background side threat who's still in power. The face of the federation in this version, but not the head of it. You feel me

After Tarsus, Jim and Bones met and became mates. I think Bones moved to a big fancy planet for his wife and child after a bit. In the meant time, we have Spock!

Spock is the result of eugenic experiments (there's no aliens in Firefly 😢) like the serenity thing that the og story is about (but generational eugenics not brain poking)(because I want there to be many others, just also in hiding and with their own political factions and opinions) but his resulted in Vulcan-like stuff. I think he's still got the pointy ears and has excessively strong emotions that he's learnt to hide completely cos he was raised in a medical facility by cold scientists instead of parents and love. There's schools of thought about them, some want to integrate, some want them exterminated, some want them to form their own society. The federation stance is these eugenic things don't exist and if you see one kill it because it officially doesn't exist. So Spock is forced into hiding and hasn't really had a chance to form his broader opinion, cos it's academic anyway. They're all hiding now.

So, Spock's escaped (more on that later) and in hiding. He meets Jim and they click, probably meeting in some silly battle. I reckon Spock has ways to get away from the feds that Jim wants to learn, so Jim pushes for them to team up. They spend some time together either on someone else's ship or on a smaller ship just them two.

After a while that comes to an end and they put together a crew and buy a ship together. They hire Sulu and Chekhov who are a criminal team who need to get off this rock very fast please. Chekhov can fly wonderfully and has enough engineering knowledge that they're like hey we maybe don't need someone in the engine room!

Sulu is a jack of all trades. It takes a few months for them to realise how useful he is, he always has a skill they need and always knows someone who'll play as a contact. Absolutely invaluable.

Eventually the engine breaks beyond Chekhov's skill to fix and they've all heard of Scotty. Everyone knows about Scotty. I think this would make a good episode one.

They work Sulu's contacts and find Scotty who is, lo and behold, having a drink with his mate disgraced Doctor McCoy. Spock, immediate dislike, this guy is a doctor. Jim, holy shit! Bones! Why the fuck aren't you emailing me back!?

Turns out Bones has gotten divorced and threw a bit of a fit in a hospital and can't work on a core planet anymore. He agrees to join the crew and Scotty has some issue that forms most of the episode plot and joins too cos hey, crims gotta keep moving

The ep ends with meeting Uhura, who manages a lot of the residual resistance movement's comms. She's the most political of the bunch, but Jim is absolutely in agreement and so chuffed to meet her even tho he's never been too war-y before. Scotty and Sulu already know her. She takes a kind of Inara role on the ship, but she's not companioning, she's boosted the comms in the shuttle and is continuing this work. It's great for her cos she gets to move around and be hard to catch, and it's great for the ship cos it gives them access to loads of underground people who aren't the hated federation

I also think she helped Spock break out back in the day. I'm not sure if she was part of it and they've met, or if she helped run things so she knows Spock but he doesn't know her. She's gonna be their reason for getting accidentally involved in larger things in the story and why they get more altruistic with their jobs. Spock also pulls them into some of the eugenic stuff

I reckon episode two needs some Spock eugenic stuff to happen so that Bones can solidify himself as on team Spock in action even if he has a go at Spock. Cos everyone else follows Jim's orders and Jim is team Spock, so I think Bones needs a chance to prove it. To great danger to himself ofc.

Repeat characters (like in Firefly they have Badger and Saffron who rock up as major non crew characters) are Chapel and Rand. I think Chapel is still on a core planet as a nurse. I would have her join the crew in season two, to look for her missing husband. But in season one she can be an insider informant for the hospital heist episode, which they do mainly for the medical equipment cos Bones has like nothing to treat people with. And maybe Spock has some additional medical needs that Bones needs to learn (Spock hates this)

Rand is like a bit of Saffron energy but less totally untrustworthy. I think she works them for her benefit but in a way where when they meet again they're like hey Janice you're not allowed on the ship but it's great to see you! Like, maybe she hijacks them to get her somewhere or stows away super inconveniently. Or maybe she just steals from them old school style and has a very all's fair in love and war vibe about it. She just doesn't hold any resentment, so it's hard to resent her

If I were to cast this show I'd cast Bones and Jim and women because I think it needs more women, might as well put them in positions of power, and honestly I think Spock's character with the emotional repression and all would change being cast as a woman whereas the others wouldn't. Spock's character in this is gonna be playing into stereotypes and expectation to stay in hiding, and those change as a woman

I've definitely got less tension on board than Firefly. There's no Jayne equivalent making life hard for everyone, but you could write an arc in for Chekhov like that if you wanted to. He could go from disliking the danger Spock and Uhura bring to absolutely admiring them over like two seasons. Could be interesting, but it's not got much to do with trek really

There's no shipboard romance here either. There could be something cool in the Scotty/Uhura that happened later in trek canon. Maybe they've got romantic history, so when she joins the ship there's tension and they just fall into bed together pretty quickly. But I'd only put that in if it added something else to the story, which it might! I'm not actually writing, I'm brainstorming

And similar to what the did in Firefly I think Spock/Bones makes the most sense. Cos we don't need proof that Spock and Jim understand each other, they're captain and first officer. They have each other's back absolutely. And similarly with Jim and Bones, they'd have old loyalty and friendship to draw on. And I think they also just obviously get along. But Spock and Bones could do with some plot prodding along, so I'd do something like the Simon/Kaylee romance where there's tension and clear desire but they're bad at making it happen. There's too much in the way. But it adds reason for Bones to have Spock's back (cos we're coming at at the start of their friendship, not years into their five years mission) and you can occasionally see Spock relaxing the emotional wall with someone other than Jim as he develops more serious a crush

I want to see! The Niska episode where Jim and Spock get nicked and tortured, and Bones goes in to trade for them back. He can only afford one but true to the Empath ep he just trades himself and volunteers for the torture.

I also want to see a Jaynestown style ep where Scotty or Sulu are the hero. I think probably Scotty. He'd be easy to write as selfish in a he only cares about tech kinda way and then to find that he accidentally did this would be funny. He also likes to keep a low profile generally so it's extra hilarious

Hospital heist ep, with Chapel cameo. I don't think anyone's handing Spock over to the feds, but maybe they get caught and Chekhov tries to trade Spock for their freedom? Not in a pre planned malicious, but more that he just doesn't prioritise Spock's safety over everyone else's. He sees it as a last ditch leverage effort, for the greater good. Could be good drama

Saffron style ep with Rand but she steals from them. I do think that's hilarious, showing them be the mark. And I'd let her win, leave them stranded without whatever thing it is she fleeced and having to find a new magical tech engine bit. But hey she left some booze as an apology and made out with Jim so it's not too bad

Aiden BPD headcanonsssss because my dad is being weird and I feel weird too

(Most of these are based on my experiences living with somebody who has bpd, and maybe myself but we won't talk about that haha)

Tw for all the things bpd tends to cover (self harm, abuse, substance abuse, and suicidal ideation, brief mention of cannabis in a medical context)

-definitely a big source of trauma is his parents basically abandoning him for long stretches of time

-Prone to splitting regarding them. When they're not around its so much easier to be like "Whatever, fuck them, I don't care." But when they *are* around, they're always so affectionate, a lot of "it's not their fault they're busy", "they don't mean it", kind of thoughts...it's okay Aiden, people can still love you even if they treat you badly :/

-y'all know he's self destructive. Yall KNOW. He's been in 7 different go-kart "accidents", once broke his hip trying to impersonate Tony Hawk, and he WILL be crashing his car into a tree after binge drinking.

-Self harms as a form of stimulation sometimes. He just gets SO bored. Usually will slam his head on the nearest hard object or cut himself with his compass.

-has been to a "wellness center" (mental hospital) after an episode where when his parents were on a trip, they returned and found him catatonic on his bed, he hadn't gotten up for almost 8 weeks and his mattress was stained with urine. Not to mention he'd gotten extremely sick after eating only Ramen. Called this a "blip" and hasn't done anything like this again, but only cuz he hated the hospital so much :/

-not really good at managing his anger. He gets pissed off easily (his jaw starts clenching), but has definitely eased off with the yelling and picking a fight with the person. May say some things he may or may not regret later :/ might like kick the wall or smth too-

-his feelings of emptiness and boredom get really exacerbated when he tries to sleep, so he just doesn't sleep until he passes out from exhaustion.

-extremely rare, but if he cries its almost never the appropriate time.

-his favorite person (and I mean this in the bpd way not just the usual way) was Ben, now it's Ashlyn. She asks Ben for advice sometimes on how to understand him better. Is trying to get better, but he just wants all of her attention all the time. He could make a soliloquy of all the things he loves about her. She's the one who pushed him to go back to therapy and told him "hey, I think you have somethinh"

-Weirdly protective but in a hands off way?? Even tho he really doesn't handle himself well? He knows his friends can take care of themselves but it doesn't stop him from running through the worst case scenario. Freaks out if people are late, especially if they're punctual. Also really defensive of them, they do no wrong in his eyes (except when they do :/)

-used to push people away to avoid disappointment or abandonment, especially because they needed to move so much. All his relationships were very superficial. Ghosted people a lot.

-Has chronic pain as an adult because of all the injuries he suffered through as a kid, not to mention his shitty posture. He takes painkillers, but they leave him zoned out and with even worse insomnia so he doesn't take them a lot. Sometimes uses medicinal weed if the pain is really bad. Ash tries to help by rubbing his back, though she says she's not that useful. He always feels better afterwards tho ❤️

-Smokes if he is really stressed, but he's ashamed about it and tries not to do it too much. Picked it up after stealing some of his mom's cigarettes when he was younger.

-his inner voice is extremely negative and he is generally under the impression that everybody hates him. Tries to act like this doesn't bother him and acts like a nuisance because if everybody hates him why even bother filtering his thoughts or actions?

-why were you even born? Who'd love a screw up like you? Your own parents didn't even want you.

-rejection sensitivity and gets really depressed if he's upset one of his friends. Will usually self harm to cope because he think lashing out will make things worse and he just doesn't know what else to do.

-he loves deeply and he's fiercely loyal. He's good with children. He's a wonderful artist. And he is so very incredibly kind. His bpd does not define him as a person.

I don't know if anybody needs to hear this, but, having BPD is not a death sentence. You're not doomed to be a bad person or an abuser, and I say this as somebody who was abused by someone with BPD (my own father). People with BPD are scared, they are struggling, and most of all, they're tired. If you or somebody you care about thinks they're have bpd, try to contact a doctor or specialist and seek professional help.

I don't really think he misses Artie n' co. but I think he still feels a bit lost, he hasn't really moved on or done anything exciting since it all went to shit. He misses feeling like he belonged more than anything, a little bit like Bruno, whom he got on pretty well with btw.. especially when Wyatt wasn't around 😅 he kinda liked Kaden too, but mostly because he was resourceful and sensible, tho he was still rather wary of him! He was never keen on Kian, and I still love his backchat to him in this scene because it pretty much defines their relationship, even though we rarely saw em together lmaooo..

Hmmmm.. what does he think of "new" Wyatt? He's not really sure tbh, he only got to spend like a day with him! What does he do for fun!? WORK! Duh.. but I guess he kinda likes cooking sometimes, and if he ever feels burnt out (which is super rare) he likes to binge watch TV series in the dark and eat a fuck tonne of sweeties 😌 I can see his faves being shit like The Wire, or mindfucky films like Tenet! Honestly, he doesn't have many hobbies or many friends, he's spent his entire life with his nose in his laptop, which he likes.. but I still think he's a bit lonely/directionless these days...

Oh god (hah) ok I guess it's time to try and pin down godhood/divinity for this verse, huh? Been meaning to make notes. Definitely not just 'stong monster'.

Sorry but you'll never get a 'quick' answer from me when I could be worldbuilding, lol. This is barebones and subject to change, mebbe.

A mortal (ie. not godly) is only one thing. They're a human. They're a werewolf. They're a human-werewolf-hybrid but that's still just one being. When they die they're dead (or possibly undead, but that's still being one thing at a time).

They need to eat, to hunt, to rest, to replenish in a way that is a conscious effort.

Gods are born as mortals to mortal parents (if applicable), but attached to them is the divine element that they are the god of. They're a mortal but also that element, both avatar and embodiment. Ageing is a tricky thing, on average a god's mortal form will develop to maturity at a regular pace and remain at that point. (I should mention that gods aren't always born to sapient species.)

Their divinity/godhood on the other hand is ever growing and maturing, eventually shedding their mortal form (and later self) after which their element soon (relative) consumes them. That is when a god dies, and a new one is born, and the cycle begins again. The speed at which the cycle moves really depends on the individual cycle's god, their species, their circumstances and element.

In a way you can see a divine element as a parasite that attaches at birth to a host and sustains and consumes them over a span of decades to millenia. There is no way to predict, invite, stop or avert this, in fact you shouldn't even try. Without the divine element the thing itself would cease existing. The divine element also feeds the mortal form purely by it's element existing, as such a god doesn't need to eat or rest (but they can, if they so choose so), and it's very very hard to kill their mortal form. Depending on what stage they're at it's likely possible they can re-form from their element alone, even if their mortal form was completely destroyed. (Otherwise it's likely they move on to late stage godhood.) its impossible to injure a god with something associated to their element. (ie explosions = bullets, shrapnel, fire, heavy impact/shockwave, etc)

Soap being a god of explosions for example, is in the 'juvenile' stages of godhood (this does not influence his maturity as a human in any way). He's figured out manmade explosions/explosives, and the wonders of flammable gasses, and making anything explode that shouldn't/making things not-explode that should. But guys, guys, he hasn't even grocked yet that the two biggest natural sources of explosions are volcanic and stellar, as in solar flares and supernovas. (His endstage of godhood would probably be stuff like colliding black holes and just generally stretching too thin through the universe and completely losing any sense of self/personhood and eventually fading into nothing. But that's gonna be a long as while dw.)

Aemond left the message at that. A controller was in his right hand, his fellow streamers were inside his mother's house. Casually eating the chips that Alicent left out. "She doesn't remember?" Arryk questions while peering over his left shoulder. Aemond was still staring at the message, his phone was in his left hand. "Don't think she ever will," he responded with a grin while turning his phone off.

"Your charisma is fucking amazing." Larys chuckles while pressing on the controls. "I mean, you just stream and shit." he complimented backhandedly while crushing Aemond's character. "Have you seen me?" his eyes narrowed as he flexed his muscles. "I'm a piece of art bro," he joked while pressing another button that let his character revive himself.

"Bitch please," Arryk mumbled through gritted teeth, slumping on his chair and nibbling on the bowl of Lays. Aemond stares at the both of them, eye alternating between his two friends. "You can't just insult me and eat my food, that's shitty behavior." he shook his head playfully, reaching for the remote and turning the t.v off.

He stands up.

"It's time to go home." he settled, grabbing the bowl from Arryk's hands. He promised to go home today, to grab his phone that he accidentally left in your shared home. He wanted to be home by the time you did. He missed you — he missed your face.

"Come on! I just got here!" Arryk complained while laying on the leather sofa. "Yeah, you're free to stay but you have to babysit Egg's children." Aemond rolled his eye while walking away from the kitchen counter. "I'll bounce," Arryk replied suddenly rising from the chair.

'That's what I thought.'

You gazed upon the open window of Daemon's sports-car. It was a humble Porsche 911, that he allegedly bought in 2019. The wind was blowing on your face, there weren't any smoke in the city — only fresh and clean air. You stare at your phone, turning it on for a second — then turning it off again. It was 7:29PM.

You decided to not attend Jace's birthday party as your boyfriend wasn't going to be there anyways. "You're free to go to Rhae's house at any time, if your mind ever changes." he offered kindly, a soft smile was painted on his lips.

Thomas Daemon Targaryen was the perfect man. He was an intellectual who appreciated the arts. He studied at Harvard, and is on his way to earn another PhD. He was the person that your parents wanted you to be — and that somehow turned you on.

"I'm fine, Dae. I don't think it's appropriate to attend Aemond's family function without him." you answered, using a nickname that he hasn't heard in a while. His lips pressed into a thin line.

Oh, he hasn't forgotten about you — something inevitable changed deep within him, and you took his ability to ever feel anger. You made him fight a war that he's already lost. He's waving a while flag of surrender, inevitable to your endearments.

He stares at you for a second, almost missing the red light. You continued to gaze upon the scenery. An attempt to fight motion sickness. "(Your name), you're part of the family. You're welcome any time." he mumbled while taking a sharp right-turn. He was taking the long route in order to spend more time with you.

"Thank you, I'm already tired anyways — I'll send a gift to Jace. Tell him that we're sorry for not coming." you pleaded while seeing your apartment building in the horizon. It was a small building — it only had ten floors, and your apartment was on the top. The penthouse.

"He won't take it to heart, I'm sure — but if you ever need anything. Grocery? or company, I'm here for you." he attempted to slither closer into your close circle. He'd take anything — scraps of your attention, if it meant having your attention. "You're too kind to me. But I feel the same, if you ever need anything — I'm just a call away." you wink while he halted in front of the building.

There were boxes of your teaching material on his trunk. It was evident that you weren't going to be able to take all of those items up the stairs. He was a gentleman, and he offered his help. "I'll help you with that," he demanded while taking two big boxes off your hands, leaving you with a tiny box and your handbag to carry.

"You don't have to do this, I could call someone to help." you chuckled nervously, embarrassed of having your uncle-in-law and boss carry all of your objects. "This is what friends are for (Your name)," he says while climbing up the stairs with ease.

You suppose that this is the result of his military trainings, but that only meant that you were trailing behind him. It was late at night and the elevators were closed due to the landlord's stinginess. You couldn't help but feel exhausted after five-flights of stairs.

You stare at him from above you. His expensive polo was stained with purple glitter-glue. "Dae, there's something on your shirt." you climbed up the stairs faster, placing the handbag on your shoulder and the small box on top of your waist. He looks down on his striped polo, not even faltering as he sees the stain.

"I'm so sorry, the glue must've leaked." you apologized while attempting to wipe remnants of the glue away from his shirt. He chuckles loudly, "It's alright, it's a shirt." he comforted and you both walked up the stairs together — side-by-side.

Until you didn't even realize that you were on the 9th floor. An old lady that lived under your apartment suddenly fades into view with a flower-pot on her hand. "(Your name), is this your new boyfriend?" she asked with an old-lady smile, her voice was a croak but you were both able to hear her quickly.

You blushed, speechless.

Daemon and you? Pft impossible.

"Well, you two look good together — have a nice day." the old lady closed her door, not even waiting for your response.

You turned even redder, almost like a tomato. You walked up the stairs faster, already in shame of all the events that happened today. "I'm really sorry for Mrs. Parker — well, she's adorable but she shouldn't have said that." you apologized, bowing your head. He chuckles again, his voice a dark velvet timbre. "It's okay." he smiled and you stopped in front of your apartment.

Hands reaching for the doorknob. His eyes trailed from the doorknob to your hands — you were still wearing the ring that he gave you, but it was on your thumb and readjusted to fit that finger. The door beeps, and that familiar ring plays through your ears.

Daemon could smell your apartment, it was of cinnamon and jasmine — it smelled like you. There were no pictures of you and Aemond, but there were paintings on the wall. Minimalistic and unlike you. "Where do I put this down?" he asked, eyes roaming around your apartment.

Some parts of it reminded him of you, and other parts were foreign.

"On the counter," you pointed while settling your handbag and box down on the plastic chair. He places the boxes down, and the stain on his shirt grew in size. "I'll go grab a shirt for you." you mumbled while staggering to your room in search of an oversized hoodie.

You weren't a bad person. You weren't going to give him your boyfriend's shirt. After flicking a few hangers away, you were able to see an oversized hoodie that had a unicorn drawing on the center. It was girlie, but it would do.

You exit your room, smiling at him as he sat on the counter. "You're welcome to sit on the couch. Do you want anything to drink?" you offered like a kind hostess. He shakes his head, instead searching for the lavatory. "The bathroom is — that way." you pointed on the door beside your room and smiled, thanking you silently.

You were about to follow him, but the doorbell rings. You walk towards the door, staring through the peephole and you see Aemond. He was a jealous man, even though there was nothing between you and Daemon — he'd get mad.

The doorbell rings again and Daemon exits the bathroom. "Who's that?" he asked, and your turned your head to look at him. Aemond couldn't be jealous of his uncle? "Aemond," you answered while opening the door. "I missed you, baby." he whispered while opening his arms to hug you, giving you that fever.

He frowns at the sight of another man inside his house and wearing his woman's shirt.

"Uncle, what are you doing here?" he asked in a rigid tone. Daemon was trying something again, but his uncle will never have you. He'd have to pry you away from Aemond's dead hands. "I helped her with the boxes, I was just about to head out." his uncle replied in a civil-tone, but he knew what that meant — 'I'll be kind to you once, but don't try anything funny.'

He nods his head, not wanting to make a show in your presence.

"I'll walk you to your car."

Hi. After following a hyperfixation rabbit hole (thank you, ADHD and Autism) I have been wondering if I have AvPD. I've been obsessively researching it for a while now, and it would make a lot of sense for the struggles i've been facing that just aren't really explained by my other diagnoses but also aren't really *normal* per se, but I'm scared I'm wrong or just looking for something else to be "wrong" (i put wrong in quotes bc i dont think any disability/mental illness is actually something wrong, but that's how a lot of the people around me perceive it) with me so I feel like my suffering is more valid. My thoughts and hang ups are this:

I feel like my avoidance isn't severe enough to qualify (also me: hasn't made a follow-up appointment with either my neurologist or psychiatrist bc the idea of making the phone call "wrong" is crushing; changes the time I eat lunch so I don't have to either ask to sit with the people I know would let me sit with them bc they consider me or a friend or have them see me sitting alone even tho I literally like them and want them to be my friends; still haven't applied for my college housing accoms that I literally need bc I'm too scared i'll get turned down; feels crushing embarrassment even existing in the same space as my roommate; has a grand total of 1 friend)

It could just be my social anxiety/autism/agoraphobia. I feel like none of these really explain how deeply I feel rejection (my best friend was too busy to eat dinner with me like we usually do bc finals season and I nearly threw up bc of how much it hurt, and I ended up in tears for almost an hour) or just how crushingly embarrassing I find being perceived by others/existing to be (I literally can't make phone calls unless I'm locked in my dorm without my roommate there because I feel like people will judge me for doing a normal human activity like answering my mom's phone call; can't brush my teeth in the morning bc what if people see and only do it at night when most of the dorm hall is asleep), the constant reassurance I need from people (I'm constantly asking my best friend (only friend really) if I'm annoying them/too much work/going to get left by them/actually welcome to hang out with them).

I also wonder if my self-esteem is too high since I know low self-esteem is a key part of AvPD? I don't feel like I'm inferior academically/intelligence wise, hell I'm kind of arrogant in that respect, but also feel like I'm not good enough/interesting enough/pretty enough/funny enough for someone to want to be around me and have struggled with suicidal ideation because of it. I sometimes (by that I mean almost weekly) have meltdowns where I end up just wallowing in my own self-hatred for hours and ignoring people's texts/my homework bc I feel like i'm not good enough to have friends/long term partners.

I'm also not particularly quiet when I *am* in social situations. I tend to blurt out whatever's on my mind, even though I immediately regret it 99.9999% of the time, and my ADHD impulsivity results in me interrupting people a lot even tho it makes me feel like a horrible person. I always feel like I've overshared to everyone (tho my best friend, the only person I can be around all the time and not have a meltdown, says I actually under-share and should open up more to people).

I don't have any childhood trauma that could have caused it, at least I don't think? Like. My parents are amazing, they've always been there for me emotionally and physically. I was kind of bullied in pre-school through elementary school (people would take stuff from my bag and throw it and make me "fetch like a dog," I was really short so they'd hold stuff out of my reach) and never really had friends in middle school, just these three girls who let me hang out with them when I was around but would ignore my texts a lot, not invite me places they were going, etc, and after I moved away just before high school i didn't really bother to try making friends bc even tho i was lonely it just didn't seem like it was worth it bc they wouldn't like me anyway and I was just gonna go to college soon and they'd leave me then but none of that's really traumatizing?

I don't know. I feel like it really fits but also like if it were actually a big enough problem to qualify as a personality disorder my therapist would have caught it by now? And I'm scared to bring it up bc if she thinks i'm wrong i'll probably never want to talk to her again bc i'd be so embarrassed. Sorry, this was really long. If you actually read all of this, I guess I just want to ask if you think it's even possible I could have it.

i'll give you the short answer first: yes, it's absolutely possible that you could have it. i can't tell you if you do or not, but i can tell you that all of the doubts you mentioned are things i've personally struggled with while figuring my avpd out.

i'll put a much more in-depth answer addressing each of your concerns under the cut:

I'm scared I'm wrong

here's the thing: being wrong doesn't hurt anyone. people will act like researching your own potential diagnoses and coming to the wrong conclusion is the end of the world, but the reality is, there's very little actual harm that could come from a self-misdiagnosis.

with a clinical diagnosis, if the doctor is wrong, that could end with consequences like taking the wrong medication or doing therapies that do more harm than good to you. but just doing your own research and coming to your own conclusion? the worst that happens is you use the wrong word for a while and then eventually realize it doesn't fit as well as you thought it did, or you ask a doctor about it and they decide it's not a good fit and (if they're a good doctor) help guide you toward a more accurate explanation of what you're experiencing. either way, there's no harm done!

or just looking for something else to be "wrong" with me so I feel like my suffering is more valid

here's the thing: whether avpd is the answer or not, you're suffering. and if you're suffering and you want to better understand why that's happening, you're allowed to do that! your suffering is valid whether there's a name attached to it or not, but that doesn't mean it's wrong to want a name for it. it's only natural to want to understand why you feel the way you do and find people like you.

and if you're worried about a "psychology student syndrome" kind of thing – that you might just be projecting symptoms onto yourself that you don't really experience – the best thing you can do for that is to take some time to really look at yourself and your life and see if you see those things taking place. don't worry about if they're "as bad" as other people's; if you see examples of those things in your life and you're suffering because of them, that's all it takes to know you're genuinely experiencing it.

it seems like you already know this on some level, but yeah, all of the things you listed after this sentence absolutely sound like some pretty significant avoidance to me. again, i can't tell you if it's avpd or not, but those do sound like the kinds of things i would count toward my own self-diagnosis if it were me.

there's no hard line of how severe your avoidance has to be, or any real way to objectively measure severity in the first place. if those things are getting in the way of you living your life and/or causing you to suffer emotionally, that means they're bad enough to be taken into consideration.

the secret is, almost no one feels like what they're experiencing is bad enough. i've had times in my life where my avoidance literally almost killed me, and i still wonder if it's "bad enough". don't let that imposter syndrome feeling stop you from better understanding your brain and getting the support you need.

this feeling was actually exactly what started me on the path that led to me realizing i had avpd. i knew that i was autistic and socially anxious, and i thought for a long time that those explained what i was experiencing, but the more i interacted with people around me who were also socially anxious autistics, the more i realized i was dealing with something none of them seemed to understand.

and all of the things you described – intense emotional dysregulation caused by rejection and embarrassment and needing constant reassurance to function in social situations – are classic avpd things. so i would say, if your gut tells you those things aren't being explained well enough by the words you already have to describe yourself, avpd is definitely worth considering.

hey, you're talking to the guy who's not just avoidant but also a narcissist. avpd can absolutely coexist with being highly confident (or even overconfident) in certain parts of yourself.

it also sounds like that confidence is an exception to the rule. feeling like you're "not X enough" for other people to the point of having self-isolation spirals or suicidal ideation because of it are really common forms of low self-esteem in avpd. if you ever here an avoidant refer to having an "avpd spiral" or "shame spiral", the experience they're talking about is a lot like what you described.

the stereotype of avpd is a super shy and quiet person, and some of us definitely are like that (myself included), but not all avoidants are. there are some who mask their avoidance by coming off as incredibly social and talking to people a lot, and others who (like you described) talk a lot even if they don't want to because of other aspects of their neurotype.

i think those feelings of regret and shame that you feel in response to what you're saying are really the important thing here. those internal experiences are much more fundamental to what avpd is than how they present externally, so the fact that you're experiencing them means i definitely wouldn't count avpd out just because you're not as quiet as some of us are.

first of all, a history of trauma isn't actually required to have avpd. it's often assumed that personality disorders are also trauma disorders because they are often associated with trauma, but there's nothing suggesting that's always the case.

there's also research that has shown some people are born predisposed to avpd. it tends to cluster in families along with social anxiety, suggesting there's some sort of heritable aspect, and some research suggests avpd might start in childhood with a person having a nervous system that's naturally hypersensitive to certain triggers.

it's also important to remember that the kinds of trauma that can lead to something like avpd aren't always things we would look at as obvious trauma. for example, one paper i found said that a possible form of trauma that could lead to avpd is having an overprotective parent – the parent projects their fears onto the child and, despite just trying to keep them safe out of genuine love and care, ends up teaching their child that the world is dangerous. we might not look at that kind of parenting and automatically see it as traumatizing, and it's hard to fault that parent for trying to keep their child safe, bu the result for the child is the same. especially if we are born with more sensitive nervous systems than the average person, things that seem totally mundane could have a significant impact on how our brains develop.

all of that to say, it is possible that the experiences you described –being bullied in school and excluded by your friends – had enough of an impact to cause the struggles you're experiencing now, even if they don't feel like trauma. it's also possible that they're unrelated, because avpd (if that is what you're experiencing) can develop even in the absence of trauma.

I feel like it really fits but also like if it were actually a big enough problem to qualify as a personality disorder my therapist would have caught it by now?

you'd be surprised what therapists don't catch, especially if there's a much more common and less "scary" label (like social anxiety) that can, on the surface, explain away what you're experiencing. i've been seeing my therapist for 8 or 9 years now and she's very aware of my avoidant tendencies, including how much they get in the way of my life, but she still never brought up avpd with me. whether it’s because they just don’t hear about avpd enough to think of it, because they avoid diagnosing personality in general, because they don’t know “do with” avpd and would rather assume it’s something they do know how to handle, or because they think avpd is just another word for severe social anxiety, a lot of therapists will see all the signs of avpd in a patient but never actually bring up avpd as a possibility.

at the end of the day, you know better than anyone how much of a problem these struggles are for you. if you think this really could be the explanation, don't worry about what she did or didn't catch. therapists aren't infallible; they're human, and they can miss things.

I'm scared to bring it up bc if she thinks i'm wrong i'll probably never want to talk to her again bc i'd be so embarrassed

i 100% get that fear. i actually had that happen to me with my therapist – i brought up a few theories of mine to her, she shot them all down, and i ended up stopping our sessions and eventually going to a different therapist for a while because i felt like i couldn't trust her anymore. ultimately, i went back to her (mostly because the second therapist was an incredibly condescending asshole and my parents didn’t know of any other options), but i honestly still haven't brought avpd up to her to this day because of that.

so i can't blame you at all, and it's okay if you feel like you need to work up to bringing this up with her. try doing some more research and getting more confident in your theory so you feel like you can explain it well to her, and maybe even put together a collection of the evidence you have for it – examples of how you feel like you exhibit the symptoms, things like that – so you have something to hand to her instead of having to explain it on the spot. once you've looked into it more on your own, you can reevaluate how confident you feel in the theory and decide if it's time to talk to her.

in the meantime, you could try testing the waters to see how she might respond to you bringing up a theory. there are some therapists who are super against patients doing their own research and having their own ideas about what's going on, so it’s good to know if your therapist is one of those people ahead of time instead of finding out the hard way.

i would also recommend telling her that exact fear if/when you do bring this up to her. that sentiment of "one somewhat negative interaction is all it takes for my embarrassment to be so bad that i can never talk to you again" is a really common thing with avpd, and is one of the reasons a lot of avoidants struggle with therapy. so being honest about that fear can both help her understand that she needs to be cautious in her approach if she does disagree with you and could actually make her more likely to agree.

I guess I just want to ask if you think it's even possible I could have it.

so yeah, like i said at the beginning of this, i think it's very possible that you could have avpd. i can't tell you for sure, but pretty much everything you've described here sounds very familiar to me as an avoidant person, so at the very least i think it's definitely worth looking into further and seeing if it continues to feel accurate as you learn more.

i hope this helps! and whether you end up concluding that you're avoidant or that there's something else going on, i hope you're able to find the understanding and support that you need.

IN WHICH, choi y/n after finally landing a job after many many interviews finds out his new boss is the boy that broke his heart many years ago in highschool. can the two become friends again and maybe more or will it once again end in tragedy with y/n crying on the floor of his room for days left to pick up the pieces of his once again broken heart.

"hey y/n, can we talk?" its jay.

oh. jay. i really don't wanna talk with him. but i guess i have to man up and live my life. i turn towards him, "yes mr. park? what would you like to talk about?" he looks a bit surprised for whatever reason. "could you follow me into my office so we can speak privately?" i nod and follow him into his office, people are staring. jay locks the door as we enter the office. he looks a bit scared. his face reminds me of the one he had that day.

i don't know what to do here. why did he want to talk. we stare at eachother for a moment, "y/n.." he hesitates for a second and just stares at me, "do you wanna take a seat?" he pulls out a chair for me. "..okay" i sit down. all i can do is stare. he's still so pretty. i should hate him. he broke my heart. why does my heart ache seeing him? "y/n" he starts, "i'm sorry." "for what?" i want him to say it. admit what you did to my face. tell me you know what you did to me. he looks taken aback. "for everything. i know i hurt you all those years ago. i know i was stupid and i know how much i hurt you." i can hear his voice tremble a bit. my eyes start to gloss over and i think i'm about to cry. i really don't want to cry in front of him. "oh." is all i can get out without sobbing and suddenly i feel a tear drop slide down my face. before i know it i'm crying. jay apologizes a few more times i can hear the struggle in his voice. it's like every memory of us floods back to me.

jay takes a deep breath in and speaks again, "i know we haven't spoken since that day but i promise i didn't want any of that to happen." "why did you do it then? we were good together, we could've made it work." he opens his mouth as to speak but he immediately stops. he opens his mouth to speak again and this time as he talks he makes the slightest bit of sense to me, "y/n, i really wanted to please believe me. i just couldn't stay with you because my parents moved me away because of you. there hasn't been a single day since then i haven't thought about you, please forgive me." he sounds like he's about to cry. "jay.." i don't know what to say to him. there wasn't one day since then where i haven't thought about him.

"there hasn't been a day since where i haven't thought about you. i don't know if i have it in me right now to forgive you." my voice cracks and i can see tears coming from his eyes. he makes it so hard. i look down at my hands, i can't look at him. "i want to forgive you jay i really do, and now we have to work with each other and i get that it would be easier if i could just get over it but what you did and what we were made an impact on me." "i.. understand. i'm sorry again. do you think we could take it one step at a time? become friends again? please y/n. i'll do anything." i can hear the pain in his voice. "okay. let's start over, become friends again. just.. don't bring this up again, okay?" he looks at me with glossy eyes and an appreciative smile on his face, "of course. anything for you."

He wasn't happy however, no matter how much he tried to convince himself he is. He always loved baking. Meeting Bo and Aliyah actually made him quiet his old job and work at a cafe.

Constantly has restricted his abilities, out of habit and fear of them. Still offers to teach Zara about magic though.

Moving in from that, he loves baking, and is very skilled at mixing magic into it, enchanting flavors and emotions. Everyone loves his sweets :)

*Magi is the general term for magic users in this world. Witch, Wizard, and the like are ultimately just titles, but each has their own history with it.

*A Null is someone who is born with an immunity to magic, but at the cost of not being able to perform it. You cannot become a Null just to be clear. Bo was born as a Null, he never became on, got it? Good.

I mean having royals from all across the continent court you individually is one thing, but having to have a harem? Having them all gathered in one place at the same time, is probably no small event,

so maybe the MC's Kingdom plans a festival for all the visiting dignitaries, knights, noble entourages, diplomats, merchants and pretty anyone who could afford the trip really.

When the common folk arent taking delight in the various stalls selling food and wares from places they've never visited, they're gossiping about every Nobleman whose entourage is announced.

Jack is a well-known and well liked prince from a wealthy and sparkling kingdom to the south. when he steps out of his carriage and greets everyone with a bright smile and a friendly wave, it's easy to see why!

of course no one knows why such a rich and prosperous nation filled with kind and generous people with such a small standing army has never been plundered...or invaded...

Nor how he was able to expand his Kingdom so quickly with no issue. But any drunken regular in a tavern who whispers about how ruthless and manipulative he is behind closed doors, or utters a peep about his secret network of spies and assassins ends up going missing the next day.

It's confusing at first, but there's always a "friend of a friend" who is happy to clear the air and tell those curious that they decided to...relocate indefinitely. Ah well, people don't go to a tavern to worry, they come to forget their troubles, and once their seat is filled with a charming bard from Cloudy Town Kingdom, they forget who the old drunk was in the first place.

Though it's quite odd that with his personality, wealth, and reputation that Jack hasn't already married yet. If anything, he's rejected several offers. But he agreed to the harem arrangement rather quickly. No one really knows his motives, but with a smile like that how could they be bad? Rumors always target those who are kind and powerful, it Has to be jealousy.

Ian would probably be a noble from a neighboring province. They don't have much to write home about, resource wise, they share similar climates tho perhaps Ian's homeland is closer to the sea, so they have a pretty decent seafaring industry there. Oil, salt, fish, sailors, ships.

It wouldn't be a bad investment to have an arranged marriage, so ever since he was little, he's traveled back and forth between the two kingdoms. MC and Ian practically grew up together, and neither of their parents would've protested an arranged marriage. When Ian misheard the news he was elated! he could move to MC's Kingdom since theirs was a little more prosperous than his, (leave his witch of a mother), and they could be happy together forever.

But that was before MC's Kingdom caught the eye of some Nobles from wealthier provinces that had more to offer. Maybe Jeans Kingdom sat between the Sea and the mountains. Along with all of the resources he could match with Ian's, he could also hold a firm grasp on wood and jewels from the vast forests and mining regions. It's a better arrangement, and Ian grows desperate.

He quickly moves to arrange a marriage with another small province that's slightly more powerful, that, with their pooled resources would be a slightly better arrangement. MC is heartbroken that their childhood friend who claimed to love them, eagerly left to marry someone else just for their resources.

They didn't realize Ian never meant to hurt them. Nor that the Noble's sudden death was anything but an accident. It is greatly fortunate that Ian is a newly widowed bachelor with a larger province to his name. And once he agrees to this harem arrangement MC will have to forgive him, eventually right? They've known each other for so long, he can't live without them! He won't...live..without them. And he'll do whatever it takes to get them back, even if he has to remove the competition.

I was also gonna make Shaun a noble from a neighboring kingdom to the North, that was colder and had more Transylvanian vibes? yknow for the vampire aesthetic, and he met MC when Ian and them were a little older, but nonetheless was friends with them for years and wants to join the harem to both protect them from sleazy manipulators. I wanted to transfer Shaun's horror expertise as a way to handle Jack in the game, (despite in the new trailer it being shown that he doesn't know what Jack is nor it being certain he CAN beat Jack) to Knowledge he can use to protect himself and MC against any plans Jack has in store, so I settled with like, Jack once sent a proxy army to try to invade his land once upon a time, but Shaun's knowledge of his home terrain, as well as strategy gained from knowledge shared after Nick's kingdom got invaded by a "mysterious army with no Kingdom ties"... presents a decent challenge for this "mysterious mastermind" that sets Shaun on edge.

and because Shaun genuinely enjoys being with MC without knowing just how dangerous these other harem members are, though he suspects it's definitely one of them, and that they're planning on taking MC's kingdom out from under them. Though...maybe Shaun isnt thinking big enough in that respect. Not that he'd know-

Rory would be the MC's Kingdom's cook, that "just so happened" to emigrate from cloudy town to be a royal chef. He traveled the world learning a variety of cuisine, and MC's staff often wonders why he wouldn't bring all his technical knowledge back home to cloudy town where he's sure to be appreciated. But he dismisses the ideas outright. He says he's found a second home here, he has soo much to learn from their local cuisine and it just felt right. I dunno how it's happening and in what situation, but all the juniors are just being drawn to Jiang cheng at some point because there's some safe familiarity with this man even tho they don't know him.

like, while following jin ling, they were all in contact with sect leader jiang and were always so well treated and taken care of by him that it just left something on them that follows them in their next lives.

maybe jiang cheng is often just sitting in the park near the school, letting his dog play while he reads under a tree. He usually doesn't interact with anyone else, unless kids want to pet his dog.

and it could be even more interesting if they are not children, but rather young teens just stumbling onto this lone man who always reads under the tree and plays with his dog.

maybe ouyang zizhen is the first one to really get in contact with him. He's a bit new to the area since they moved in recently and he gets lost.

It's getting close to dinner time yet he's completely lost, only this man getting ready to go home.

he was always told to be wary of strangers, but something about this man seems familiar and his guts tell him he should be safe.

of course, how can jiang cheng not help a youngster when they need help? he allows the teen to use his phone to make a call, helping give an indication of where the young man is exactly.

He also waits with him since there's no one else here and it is getting late, it is dangerous for young people to stay out late like this.

maybe he strikes up a nice conversation with him when he happens to pass by. Maybe they share an interest in the same books and ouyang zizhen takes suggestions from him or even comes to read with him.

Lan Jingyi maybe meets jiang cheng when he has a fight with his dad and runs away out of frustration, like the edgy and over dramatic teen he may be.

He is still upset, but doesn't realise he sat down at the same tree jiang cheng does.

he is spooked by the big (friendly) dog that walks around to him, trying to cheer him up. of course, this gets jiang cheng attention and it doesn't take much for lan jingyi to vent his frustration.

jiang cheng listens, because he can understand and also had such a period in his younger life. sadly things turned out sour for him and his family. he wouldn't want that for this teen. He tries to reason with him and make him see his dad's point of view, he only wanted to help.

"I am sure that if you are open about why you are upset your dad will get it".

lan jingyi does listen to this man, feeling better after talking with him.

Jiang Cheng becomes his go-to adult when things go a bit more badly, since he's often just hanging around the same area.

Maybe jin ling meets jiang cheng when his dog decides to run away from him to play with another dog, making him run from one end of the park to the other.

There's something about the man that immediately makes him feel at ease (despite his dad's constant warning about strangers) maybe Jiang cheng seems taken aback by seeing him, the youngster looking familiar in a way that makes him feel nostalgic. in a way that brings memories of people, he hasn't really been in contact with for years now.

maybe Jin ling gets really comfortable with the man as they watch their dog play around, talking for two people. about anything, his day at school, the friends he made after moving here a couple of months ago, his family, the thing he likes to do.

jiang cheng is most likely the first one to figure out who jin ling parents are after a couple of meetings in the park, but doesn't dare tell jin ling about it. things went sour with his family and despite it not being towards his sister, he barely has contact with her and was never officially presented to jin ling. a little part of his mind simply assume he shouldn't impose if his sister didn't see the need to include him in his nephew's life. maybe it's better like this, not to have an uncle who is so removed from the family he barely knows what everyone is doing nowadays.

still, he enjoys the time he had with him while it last, learning about his nephew and having those little moments is also fine.

lan sizhui probably meets jiang cheng while tagging along with lan jingyi who decided to pester jiang cheng about his dad again, a bit worried about hearing his childhood friend has been regularly meeting with this older man in the park.

yet he nearly immediately gets what lan jingyi meant when he said how at ease and safe he felt around the man. it takes a while, but he does get at ease enough to talk more openly too when lan jingyi is not the one complaining.

then, of course, the quartet becomes friends and upon getting closer they also realise they all know the nice man who reads under the tree with his dog.

dunno, I just like the idea of jiang cheng somehow getting close to the juniors in another life where he can still help them and be a person of trust for them.

also, this man deserves the have a couple of brats trying to also help him out when he feels down 😤.

I can also see jin ling talking about this man he and his friends knows for months now and his parents get worried, until they hear who it is and jiang yanli is like "Wait, a-cheng is here?" cue angry little lemon who runs back to jiang cheng next them demanding to know why he never told him he knew they were related.

proper family talk and maybe the juniors work on at least making jiang cheng on better terms with one person

(damn this sure feels all over the place, but that's what my brain wanted to say.)
