We all know Superman knows Batman’s heartbeat by heart (pun intended) BUT can you imagine the repercussions? Especially if Bruce falls first??

Whenever the world gets too loud, or he gets too overwhelmed or stressed, tuning into his heartbeat is Clark’s favourite thing to do. Listening to that steady heartbeat flowing amidst all the chaos of life is enough to slowly help him calm down and relax, even drifting off to sleep sometimes. Because that was his rock. That made Clark feel protected.

The first time it rises it takes less than a blink before Superman’s banging on Bruce’s door, demanding to know what’s happening. And he noticed it increase when Bruce sees him. Then it happens again.

And again.

Now, Clark’s convinced Bruce sees him as a threat, and always goes into a spiral of trying to figure out what he did wrong and what to do to make up for it. Imagine a very sad and scared GOD hovering over Gothams Knight unsure of how to approach the issue but not wanting to leave him as well.

Meanwhile Bruce’s internally screaming as to why his crush is now following him around everywhere looking so adorably lost and vulnerable and how can he get rid of these feelings it’s making him want to act giddy and declare his love everywhere and it’s driving him insane.

imagining a competition between Bruce and Clark where they try to see who can play dumb more convincingly and it’s just a masterclass in acting and posture without an obvious winner. one look at them as civilians and most would write them off as idiots. the people who do know them can’t bear to watch their routines in person because they’re too good, in a way that just wrong enough to make your teeth itch.

Wonderbat Vs Superbat.

I have a weird headcanon inside my head, from when Jason was still quite young and showed a certain adorable fanaticism towards Diana.

Like, I imagine Jason, in Crime Valley, always looking at the TV shop windows, every time Wonder Women showed up in a fight; a little Jason who screamed for joy, along with other kids and some adults, every time Diana landed a blow or won the fight with the villain of the day.

Then, when Bruce adopts him, and he starts his life as Robin… he didn't think much of the fact that Batman probably knows Wonder Woman. Let alone the fact that Robin, on special occasions (aka, Alfred has his movie night off), can go to the League base.

And so, Jason nearly goes into cardiac arrest from the excitement of seeing his idol, eating donuts and scolding his dad for making such a risky decision last time… Then he looks down and sees her smile as she notices he's there.

And she gets even more excited to see that her dad is totally comfortable with her around. That he doesn't put up roadblocks or walls like he does with other heroes and people. Even making "boring people jokes."

So, totally convinced, especially after watching several romantic comedy movies, that it's his duty as a son to unite his father with the love of his life. But, when he asks Dick for help, he mentions that B and BigBlue already had something.

Jason doesn't believe him, because he knows his big brother is a big Superman fan, and just wants to have a cool alien stepfather. But, not wanting his dad's romance to turn into a love triangle (because he's his least favorite trope) he decides to clear his doubts with Clark anyway.

And something like that would happen:

Baby Jason, looking at Clark: So, you like my dad?

Clark, nervous about having to explain to Jason about "I don't want to ruin our friendship": I consider him a good friend Jaylad…. Best friend?

Jason: Sure? just a friend?

Clark: Uh… yeah.

Jason, pulling out a notebook full of scraps from single women's magazines: If that's the case…. Can you help me set up a date with my dad and Wonder Woman? I want her to be my new mum.

Clark, completely defeated by a 9-year-old: What?

Jason: Yeah, I can't do this all by myself. I'm little Sups. And if you claim to be my dad's best friend, that means you can help me plan their first date.

Clark: Eh?-

Jason: It's good to know I can count on you, my brother was insisting that you and Dad had a thing and-

Jason couldn't continue, because Clark - actually surprisingly - had fainted upon hearing that he had a chance with Bruce.

So now, Dick tries to help Clark on the sly about how to win over his father; while Jason, left without adult help, decides to set his plan in motion on his little own.

... and

So that in the end, everything goes out the window.

Then, in a meeting between the family, Bruce confesses that he likes both of them, and that they have been in a poly relationship for a long time, but that he didn't know how to tell them.

And all this time, Clark and Diana didn't know how to explain to their partner's children that there was no need to set them up on dates.

extremely correct for two reasons

bruce knows he shouldn't get in another stupid argument but refuses to let someone be incorrect around him so he just gets silently passive-aggressive

bruce and clark know/trust each other enough that bruce can just grab clark's arm and roll up his sleeve and file his nails on the guy mid-conversation

i like a really tactile superbat, what can i say... and with that in mind i think it becomes even better when one of them is some insane shark alien. the potential for physical comedy is unmatched

Has anyone talked about a Superbat flower language story lately? Cause uhhh I’ve got comedy of error flower meanings on the brain.

Imagine this - Bruce is well versed in flower meanings. He takes his Brucie Wayne responsibilities seriously and that includes making sure that all of his events and his Wayne Enterprise offices have flowers with meanings that properly reflect the situations they are present for.

Trying to woo new contractors? Fresh daffodils (respect/admiration) and sometimes gladiolus (Generosity/Loyalty/Honor)

Have to send flowers to LexCorp? Geraniums (Folly/Stupidity) if he’s feeling annoyed, lavender (Distrust) and orange lilies (hatred) if Lex has done something especially infuriating to Batman or the League lately.

And Clark notices all of the flowers. How could he not! Bruce is always surrounding himself with such beautiful fresh cut blossoms. So he decides to grow some flowers for Bruce or maybe he picks some in between saving people and brings them to him. He wants to show Bruce he cares and give him little gifts if he can. Maybe they’ve just started dating and it’s still new and they’re still feeling the dynamics out.

But bless his kryptonian himbo heart - he knows nothing about flower meanings. So he keeps putting out mixed signals. One day its yellow tulips (sunshine in your smile) then red tulips (passion/declaration of love). The next week it’s followed by red salvia (forever mine) mixed with rhododendron (danger!).

And Bruce just does not know what to do with this. He knows Clark is smart. So he assumes Clark knows the things he knows and doesn’t even stop to consider that Clark’s a little confused but he got the spirit. Which leads to gloriously angsty/hilarious ✨miscommunication✨

hey guys i need help finding a superbat fic i was in the middle of that i lost. i think it was a really long oneshot?

it's a comedic fic where clark can't really enjoy sex with humans due to the whole invulnerability thing, which he has to explain to superboy when he gets into a relationship with robin (i think it's tim and kon? not certain). naturally, this prompts bruce to try to have actually enjoyable sex with him for science and the sake of their sidekicks in a relationship. i think he makes powerpoints.

what follows is a comedy of errors. i mostly remember bruce making a lotion with kryptonite in it to make clark's skin pliable enough to grope him or something, which results in a painful rash, and at one point he tries to play with clark's invulnerable nipples, plants his feet for leverage, pulls with his full strength, and ends up falling off the bed. it was REALLY funny. if anyone knows what im talking about, pls send a link my way!

depending on the day this could be positive or negative but i lovvvee how there's so many different niches in the dc fandom due to it's rather sprawling nature. like if i'm feeling particularly yj one week, there's a whole bunch of dedicated yj fans with specific yj fic recs and fanart and the whole nine yards. if i want a whole bunch of dick grayson positivity, i know exactly which blogs to go to! if i want very specifically batfleck and henry cavill superman superbat stuff—well i'm guaranteed to find some people who love that stuff. there's a bunch of content for every aspect of the fandom, and i adore that

i love how many genres the dc fandom encompasses. there's cute fluff, there's hardcore nothing but angst, there's weird gothic horror, there's sci-fi, there's romance, there's pure meta, there's just smut. it's a fandom that has a little bit of everything

finally, i love the people in the fandom who go out of their way to write long metas with specific comic panels and in-depth character analysis. it's what really helps me understand comic timelines i haven't read and characters i don't know much about. a huge shoutout to all of them!

2: a headcanon you weren't sure about at first but have come to like: lmaooooo tim being besties with all his exes. like i'm not usually a fan of the whole "staying friends with your exes" trope but the pure comedy that brings up with steph especially, but all his civilian supporting cast is top tier.

3: a character that fandom has helped you appreciate: harvey dent!! before fandom, i truly did not appreciate just how important to the batman mythos he was, and how many different ways his character can play into both bruce and dick's overall story arcs. such a banger character, i'm sad he isn't used in canon as often as he should be.

Personal Favorite

(Love) Triangles is probably the most fun to work on/plan out because comedy is where I feel most comfortable, but I think the one I'm most proud of is What's In A Name? It was a departure from my usual to write a story and relationship with a slightly darker tone, and it was fun letting myself get self-indulgently wanky with Themes and Parallels in what's basically a soft kink PWP. It feels like personal growth in more than one dimension!

Upcoming Projects for 2024

Ooh boy I have quite a few stories I'm eager to finish. Listed below in an order that makes sense to me, but that I couldn't for the life of me explain:

Bruce and Clark go on a Big Night Out to help Clark get over his recent break-up with Lois, having figured out how to get Clark drunk for the first time in his life. Thus ensues the kind of tragic love story you'd hear from that drunk girl crying in the club bathroom, but superbat.

The coming of age story for Super Sons Jon that I never got to read (thanks Bendis). Featuring bi panic, the horror of puberty, the EXTRA horror of puberty-plus-laser-vision, and Jon's questionable taste in crushes (aka Damian).

Superbat again, whoops. Another fluffy miscommunication romcom in which Bruce gets impatient waiting for his boyfriend Clark to make a move. (Clark does not in fact know that they are dating.)

Jason Todd genfic. It's in a document I've titled "Jason child abuse thing", which pretty much sums it up. A slightly darker character study about Jason's childhood pre-Bruce that's too self-indulgent to be comics accurate.

Departing briefly from DC, I also have a slightly ambitious (probably gen) post-canon fic for The Great Ace Attorney, because it's an excellent game series, and when I finished it I had a lot of Feelings about the way it ended. I took a break due to the DC brainrot, but I hope to return to it this year.

The above are all things I have words written for, but I also have a bunch of things I want to write but haven't nailed down enough detail for yet:

Cloisbat. I just think Bruce and Lois should get to be catty and jealous at each other over Clark, and then resolve their differences by double teaming him. I think they'd enjoy that.

Batlantern. Just...anything. I love their dynamic, but why can't I think of any good fic ideas? (Answer: I have read 0 GL comics.)

Something something Bruce/Constantine. I accidentally became invested after reading the Zatanna substory in Batman: Urban Legends. Also, I feel like Constantine would be fun as hell to write. (Zatanna could totally join too, if she wanted.)

Cat Grant/Lois. Look, I don't know where this came from either, but doesn't it feel like this should be more of a thing? I feel like it should be a thing. They're femme4femme but in opposite ways. They're foils. There's something there, I'm not crazy!

i think what makes the swap personality superbat au so fun is that grumpy superman cant hide his feelings. he can pretend he doesn't like it when bruce hugs him or when he fixes his tie, but that's a blatant lie. because when he physically pushes him away, he doesn't send him flying. even if clark has a insane amount of control in most universes, he still could send bruce to the other side of the world with a flick of a finger. but he doesn't. he just gives him a lil shove. because he really doesn't want to push him away.

also because its funny for the hero for metropolis is gloomy and the hero for gotham is like :). comedy gold
