The Ragadaziow (forefathers) Guisers performing the trial of the Beast of Bodmin- a mock trial in the style of a mummers play dating back to 1549. The Bodmin Play (An Gwary Bosvenna) sees the beast captured and paraded in the streets- St Petroc’s Ossery Casket watching over the event.
The Beast of Bodmin is not just a recent cultural reference but refers to the local tradition of a dragon at Halgavor. Legend states that St. Petroc removed a splinter from the creature’s eye and thus tamed it. Historical records of Riding Day Revels refer to people being tricked into searching for and fighting the dragon. - Bodmin, Kernow

On This Day in Cryptid History
July 19th: In 1995, an investigation into sightings of the Beast of Bodmin Mor led by Simon Baker and Charles Wilson concluded, which found no evidence verifying the existence of felines loose in Britain, and also concluded that mauled farm animals claimed to be victims of the beasts could have been done by indigenous species.

I love u small talk and small villages and street parties and bringing over roasts to your struggling neighbors. I love u shepherds and farm hands and lily of the valley. I love u lake district and bicycles and pubs. I love u umbrellas and bumblebees. I love u shakespeare and jane austen and malorie blackman and jacqueline wilson. I’m on tumblr so of course I lave cryptids. My faves that I think should appear in S3
The Dark Watchers of Santa Lucia: they seem very nice and chill and mind their own business.
The Fresno Nightcrawlers: love these guys and their silly little pants.
The Beast of Bodmin Moor: pretty sure this is someone’s escaped fancy kitty. My mom has one of these (she’s a little angel)

HELLO!!! I AM CURRENTLY GOING THROUGH THE REBLOGS FROM THE "WOULD YOU LIKE PEOPLE TOS END YOU SILLY ASKS?" SO I CAN SEND PEOPLE SILLY QUESTIONS!!!!
1. What is your least favorite element?
2. What is your favorite cryptid?
Thank you, anon! That was a kind thing to do. <3
idk if anon (being a random kind person) realises what that means to a Sapphire and Steel fan, but anyway: Gold. I cannot apply 'least favourite' to any TV Element. (Although, it would have been funny to reply with Steel without context, but it would also not have been true.) But we can all freely be mean to Gold, so that's fine.
I confess I had to go and look up 'cryptid' because I knew it meant some sort of horror-creature, but what the boundaries of the definition were, I wasn't at all sure. (Which tells you how much thought I put into cryptids.)
Anyway - the Loch Ness Monster seems like the most fun, although being from the West of England I am most familiar with the Beast of [insert name here] Moor (usually Bodmin), enough to have been scared about it. (Because the theory is basically not 'weird monster' you know can't really be true' but: large cat escaped from zoo/circus eating people and sheep, which is a lot harder to feel certain of it absolutely not being able to get you.)

Before I officially start work on Power Rangers Supernova (title, yay!) here’s the (mostly) major villain names too:
Don Armage: Karna Rog (Don Armage is an anagram of Armageddon (missing a d but still) while Karna Rog is an anagram of Ragnarok)
Kukuruga: Mirfak (the brightest star in Perseus, which is what Kukuruga is partially based on)
Akyanba: Schedar (the brightest star in Cassiopeia, which is what she’s partially based on)
Tecchu: Alderamin (the brightest star in Cepheus, which is what I think he’s partially based on)
Scorpio: Eurypto Calchas (Later Antares) (Eurypto is meant to bring to mind Eurypterid, prehistoric sea scorpions, while Calchas is a genus of scorpion. Antares is the brightest star in Scorpius)
Eriedron: Kaus (brightest star in Sagittarius, which is what he’s partially based on)
Ikagen: Skragen (Skull+Kraken, as he’s based on the Kraken and crystal skulls)
Madakko: Calamartia (Calamari+Martian+Marsha since she’s based on octopus-like Martians)
Geth Indaver: Cassius Bodmin (Later Felis) (Cassius is the one who orchestrated the assassination of Caesar, which fits his role in the adaptation in a way. Bodmin is a reference to Bodmin Moor, a location known for the Beast of Bodmin Moor, a Phantom Cat, and Geth Indaver is partially based on Phantom Cats. Felis is the name of a no longer existing constellation, as well as a star that’s part of the Hydra constellation)
Don Aslan: Ankaa (not explaining since it’s massive spoilers for the end of the first season of the adaptation)
Indaver: Greyder (Portmanteau of Grey (aliens that they’re based on), invader, and raider)
Tsuyoindaver: Flatborg (Named after the Flatwoods monster, which they’re based on, and cyborg, since they’re mechanically enhanced Indavers) (As an aside I’m not naming all of the Daikaan which are just modified Tsuyoindaver costumes aside from Ommo Indaver because that would be absolutely miserable)

Gray tabby with gray ears is Bodmor (short for Beast of Bodmin Moor). Here she is, wearing her collar as intended:

Gray tabby with orange ears is Boudicca, here shown wearing her collar as a sash:

Bodmor is more curious, but also more cautious, and a major cuddlebug; Boudicca thinks of nothing but murder all day.
Updates on harness training to follow as progress occurs.

Verity Wilde, 1971. Verity had always felt safe in Griffin's Holt. She knew all its residents and wasn't usually afraid of how many teeth they had or what they liked to eat. She had foaled kelpies in the Highlands with Ffion and Fran, taken on the Grindylow at Janet's Foss, and helped her mother tame the Beast of Bodmin. He was a big ol' pussycat, really. Additionally, it wasn't just bats and a gang of homeless vampires that inhabited the caves and abandoned mines dotted around Devon. A thriving population of wild British Blues lived right on her doorstep. Those dragons didn't have the nickname 'British Brutes' without due cause… Growing up with Fenella meant not being afraid to get your hands dirty. Growing up on the Moors had given her thick skin. She wasn't the type to spook easily, but there was an important distinction; she was brave, not stupid.
As Verity picked her way back through the wood, she felt the most peculiar sensation. The hair on the back of her neck prickled as a tingle crept down her spine. Archie stopped in front of her, stiff and alert, with one paw lifted from the ground. His flat, pink nose twitched before the cat let out a low, menacing growl. He hunkered low and began to stalk towards the old Oak up ahead. It felt as though someone had dumped a bucket of quick-dry cement straight over Verity's head. Her eyes darted left and right, her fight-or-flight instincts battling for dominance.
This was it; she was going to be eaten.

"I could stop, keep clear of the farmhouse altogether; my mum and aunt and all the ghosts could stay locked up there without me. I could miss the memorial, pretend I was still packed away in the city. Avoid the faces of people I'd left behind. My return would be just another rumour on the wind. I could live off the moor, hidden, another urban legend. The Beast of Bodmin and I, both creatures with too many stories to live up to."
