ROUND 1B! MATCH 4 OUT OF 8
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda Under the Cut:
Ruby Lucas:
she's cool, and a werewolf!
She's a red/big bad wolf combo, she's bi, she gets tragically underused like so many OUaT characters
She’s a werewolf :)
We first see her as Ruby in Storybrooke where she's initially depicted as a fun-loving flirt who spends her nights most likely in a bar while wearing revealing clothes that her grandma disapproves of (and is all in red. Absolutely everything). She lives with her grandma who runs a diner and that's where Ruby works. When Emma wakes up the sleeping town, she tries to leave Granny's and ends up helping in a case that Emma's working on by following her nose. That episode also has her backstory, but when we first see her as Red in the Enchanted Forest, she's confident and helpful and not afraid to use her lycanthropy. But the start of her story has her being an innocent young woman with a love for discovering the world and her boyfriend Peter (of Peter and the Wolf, I guess). She meets Snow while still living with her Granny in her cabin in the woods and takes her in. She's so hopeful - and then she turns into a werewolf and kills Peter (after they all thought he was the werewolf and had chained him to a tree). She is obviously quite traumatized by this and takes off with Snow. But that and her subsequent adventures gives her the growth she needs to be comfortable in her own skin, whether human or wolf. And, when the curse breaks completely, you can see the change in her - she would absolutely walk through fire to help Snow and the other good guys.
Another version where Red Riding Hood also ends up being the Big Bad Wolf. She eats her boyfriend which is sad but she falls in love with Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz in like Season 5. Her red cloak is what keeps her in human form which I think is neat. When all the storybook characters are transported to the modern world, she runs a diner with Granny.
She's one of my favorite characters from Once Upon a Time. She's a cool Red Riding hood wolf girl who is bi and has seen like 3 of her love interests and her mother die. She slays very hard so I nominate her. (Also I used to have a crush on her as a kid)
VOTE RUBY LUCAS FROM ONCE UPON A TIME. SHE WAS IGNORED BY THE WRITERS SO MUCH SHE DESERVES THIS SO MUCH. QUEER ICON!!!
Ruby Rose:
She has a scythe that is also a high-impact sniper rifle.
She is literally just based on Red Riding Hood and she's such an amazing character holy heck
Red Riding Hood but with a gun. (Specifically a combination scythe/high-impact sniper rifle called Crescent Rose). Also she's gone through so much she deserves it. She's trying to save the world and keep going despite all the people she's lost. Grew up dreaming of being a hero who fights monsters. She knows life isn't a fairy tale and wants to make it better. Just went through a mental health arc where she had depression from trying to live up to her (presumed dead) mom and from her friend dying for the second time. Killed the Big Bad Wolf with her magic eye powers. Her sister is Goldilocks and her friends are Beauty and Snow White. also I love her <3
She’s the little red riding hood but also a powerful fighter with a massive fucking scythe that is also a sniper rifle and she’s so skrunkly and so gender. Also RWBY’s whole thing (well one of them) is that their characters are all inspired by pre-existing ones from older stories and Ruby’s the main character so like, poster child of ‘character based off [insert relevant fairytale here]’ so I think she deserves to at least get pretty far
Aesthetics, themes, meta, personality and raw coolness.
She is the main character of her show. The most common monster they fight is a type of wolf (its been a while since ive seen it). Her job is to hunt them down before they can eat her. this story is very much about failed fairy tales, many of the side character's inspired arcs end in failure, but (having not seen the most recent bits) Ruby is still going strong, and i really like her cape, rose petals, and use of a scythe.
She is THE RRH character of all time. She has a scythe that's also a gun and she has to be the hero because she's got super rare main character powers. She is my happy girl. Also her mom was Sleeping Beauty and her sister is Goldilocks, and she fights to stop Rapunzel from destroying everything on the world, the gods, and then herself.
Ruby as a character is literally based on little red riding hood! She has a red cape with a hood
the Red trailer is better propaganda than I could ever write
She is a badass with a scythe, inspired by her uncle and fueled by her mother's death and her sense of righteousness
She has a giant scythe

Okay, so I’ve got the stupidest AU idea:
When Boq encounters Elphaba after the intermission she became the “Wicked Witch,” he’s spooked and looking around for a weapon. But as soon as she says she won’t hurt him, and appeals to having known him in school, he jumps at the chance to get away from Nessa, and begs Elphaba to let him work for her instead. She’s a little offput and unconvinced by how quickly he’s willing to switch his political alignment, but he manages to convince her that he’s secretly harbored sympathy for her cause. He reminds her how much he admired Dr. Dillamond and his teaching back at Shiz, insists he’s helped an Animal or two on the run in some small ways, says he wished he could do more but he doesn’t have a head for organized protest and doesn’t know how to truly be of use, but if only he had Elphaba to rally behind. And besides, surely she could use a companion that didn’t fail Home Ec, but in fact aced it and knows lots of helpful farming trivia and can totally do her laundry without messing up the intricate beadwork on that fancy new Broadway-costume-cloak she’s got on. What’d’ya say? Need a lackey?
Elphaba agrees on the principle that the more people on her side the better (and also being reminded how long it’s been since she’s done laundry), and having helped Nessa, she sets off with Boq as her new sidekick. Nessa is dumbstruck and heartbroken that Boq is so eager to leave her (and with her own sister!!), but she doesn’t get a chance to cast any ill-advised magic. Boq gets to keep his flesh another day.
This is not the stupid part of the AU. So far this is actually rather plausible.
Anyway, Boq helps Elphaba for a little while. It doesn’t bother him at all, because he has about zero political opinions, and is neither supportive of Animal-racists nor quite as critical of them as he should be. Trying to help the Animals’ cause serves him well at the moment, so for self-preservation’s sake, he gives it his all. Boq’s motto for life is to just survive in whatever situation he’s stuck in, and do whatever emotional labor is necessary to be convincing(ish). So sure, he’s a passionate activist, abso-totally-lutely 👍. But then he gets the chance at a better position, and decides to flip his political opinions again and talk his way into somebody else’s good graces.
Actually, Elphaba goes straight from Nessa’s to the Wizard’s place, so either we change things so there’s more time in between events (my preference), or there’s no “illegal Animal-helping montage” and Boq never has to prove his commitment to being Elphaba’s not-so-evil henchman. But at some point, Elphaba goes to the Wizard to rescue the winged Monkeys and give him a stern talking to, and Boq sees his chance to be protected by the most powerful person in Oz. Boq, morally grey as he is, doesn’t hesitate.
Elphaba tries to sneak in and set the Monkeys free without anyone noticing her until it’s too late. Boq was instructed to go around to the other side of the cage to help her, or he snuck off, or something else happened that separated them, but as soon as he’s out of Elphaba’s sight, Boq runs to the nearest guards and the Wizard and raises the alarm. The Witch is here! Elphaba barely escapes being caught, but doesn’t manage to free the Monkeys. She doesn’t realize Boq is the one who alerted the guards, and assumes he’s been captured and arrested and imprisoned, and makes plans to free him when she comes back for the Monkeys.
Boq, meanwhile, is pleading his case to the Wizard. He claims that he was imprisoned by the Wicked Witch and forced to serve her, do lots of horrible anti-government things, but he never forgot his true loyalty. As soon as he had a chance to betray the Witch, he took it, risking his life in the hope that he might provide some small bit of aid to the wonderful Wizard who has done so much in the fight against wickedness. If the Wizard would have him, Boq would like nothing more than to enter the Wizard’s service as a way of repenting for the deeds he did at the Witch’s bidding, and to join the fight against evil by helping the most good person there is. :3
The Wizard, a seasoned conman, sees right through the flattery. And he’s impressed. It’s clumsy, of course, ameturish and obviously over-exaggerated, but it has potential. Boq reminds the Wizard of himself. Only acting in his own self-interest. Just clever enough to convince people to like him. Just a good enough actor to seem happy and admiring when he’s not. Just a straight liar when it comes to flattery, and good enough at bending the truth to fit his cause the rest of the time. Above all, they’re both opportunists. The Wizard hires Boq as a personal attendant (aka do whatever random tasks boss needs at the moment), but secretly the Wizard is considering Boq as a sort of successor. If he can train that natural talent as a conman, and get rid of the few morals that might interfere with things, then in time, Boq might be exactly the person he needs. He’ll promise Boq power, which equals safety, and that’s all he’ll need to say.
So Boq gets a snazzy green uniform and works for the Wizard for a while. He hopes he’ll run into Glinda now and then, considering they work in the same building for the same person, but tough luck, buddy.
Before long, Elphaba comes back trying to free the Monkeys again. She expects to have to rescue Boq too, so she’s surprised to be met upon arrival by Boq himself, looking like a very green bellhop. She initially thinks he might have been pressed into service, but the look on his face tells her all she needs to know. Sellout. It’s like Glinda all over again, groveling in submission to feed ambition and all. She’s furious that he betrayed her, and swears never to give anyone the benefit of the doubt ever again. 🎵 No benefit of the doubt / Will I giiiiiive / Agaaaaaaiiiiinnnnnn 🎵 and all that jazz. Boq says sorry not sorry, the fugitive life isn’t for me, I saw my chance and took it, and you’re stupid if you wouldn’t have done the same in my shoes. I work for the literal Wizard now. I have a snazzy uniform and health insurance. It doesn’t get better than this. lmao you wish you were me. ;)
Anyway. The Wizard was expecting Elphaba to return for the Monkeys, and Boq was sent to meet her when she snuck in and bring her to the Wizard’s throne room so she and the Wizard could chat. He does just that, with Elphaba fuming at him all through the hallways until they get where they’re going, which makes it a really awkward trip.
The following encounter goes roughly the same. The Wizard does a more professional version of Boq’s “put a nice spin on the truth to win them over” tactic, and almost convinces Elphaba to trade her rebellion for the Monkeys’ freedom, but then she sees Dr. Dillamond and tells the Wizard no, I’m nothing like you, I’ll never join you, as protagonists do, and makes her exit.
When Boq is summoned back in after this disappointing (to the Wizard) result, he’s more than a little horrified at seeing what Dr. Dillamond has become. Boq may be self-serving, but he’s not heartless (ha), and he may not have cared that the Wizard was behind the whole silencing-Animals thing, but he had yet to be asked to actually interact with the Animals the Wizard has captive. Maybe he didn’t think the situation was that bad for the Animals, or maybe it’s just harder to ignore injustice when you have to look it in the eye, but the Wizard notices Boq’s weakening resolve.
Boq knows that the conversation with Elphaba was supposed to go a little differently, and asks what now? The Wizard sighs all regretfully, in the way that’s very ominous coming from villains like him, and looks at the cage where his winged Monkeys used to be. He says that he had hoped it wouldn’t come to this, because he had such high hopes for Boq (another ominous thing for a villain to say). Given more time, Boq could have learned to shut away old ideals and become powerful, influential, etc. etc. etc. But the Wizard has become a little desperate, and it’s time for the backup plan, and Boq is the perfect, candidate (because… I don’t know, some reason ¯\_(ツ)_/¯).
Madame Morrible shows up, standing behind Boq so he can’t try to leave. Ominous trifecta!!!
The Wizard tells Boq that nothing is going to change, not really. Boq can still have all he’s ever wanted… as long as he continues to do as he’s told.
This. Is where it becomes stupid. I mean, I like it, but so far this AU has been fairly well-thought-up. The last bit is the part that makes me cringe self-consciously a little. But good news, cringe culture is dead, so I’m just gonna keep going.
Soon after the last, there’s some kind of third interaction between Elphaba and the Wizard. Don’t ask me how they get in the same space, they just do. Also Elphaba is hovering on her broom out of reach. She has the high ground!!! The Wizard says something to the effect of “you stole away my spies. So I had to make a replacement.” And Elphaba is like “more spies?” thinking oh man how many rescues am I gonna have to do in one week? Then the Wizard says “better than just spies. I have created the perfect soldier… for catching witches.” A blur flies out from behind a curtain and straight towards Elphaba in midair. She’s shocked to find her hands being tied by Boq, still wearing emerald city green, but having a pair of feathery wings and looking very ill at ease with the whole situation. Also in pain, very much in pain. This isn’t the result of a magic spell, not with Elphaba on the opposing team. This whole (literal) operation was like 20% Morrible magic tops, and the rest was questionable mad science. The Wizard didn’t even give Boq three full days to recover, and Boq is not only in pain but terrified he’s gonna pull out the stitches on those wings and plummet to his death, or bleed out from his back if the fall doesn’t kill him.
Suffice to say that working for the Wizard no longer feels like a “safe” job.
Elphaba basically says just that, trying to convince Boq to let her go by asking him if he’s really willing to suffer like this for the Wizard’s sake of all people. Stop making your “I’m on the clock” decidedly neutral face and answer me honestly, do you want this? Because you look miserable.
She can see that she’s winning him over. He loosens his grip on her.
Elphaba then launches into her recruitment campaign. She tells Boq to think of everything he’s been through, and how the winged Monkeys were forced into this exact same scenario before she rescued them, and that Animals are suffering like this or worse every single day, and if he would want someone to help him when he’s suffering than surely he can do the same and support the Animals’ efforts to push back against—
Elphaba is then interrupted by the Wizard, who put a lot of effort into this hyperobedient flying soldier of his and doesn’t want to see all that psychological manipulation go to waste. The Wizard talks again about how Elphaba is evil and he’s good, and how Boq is just like him and he’s proud of all the Boq has done, and if Boq stands by the Wizard, he can have power and fame even, everything he’s ever wanted—
And this is where Boq interjects to say that he’s never cared about power or fame or saving anybody. Literally all he’s ever wanted is to just get on with his own life like a normal person, without having to do weird and difficult things like this! Neither Elphaba or the Wizard care about him, they just care about how they can use him. And, you know, fair enough, because that’s exactly how Boq thinks of them as well. Glad we’re all on the same page.
Boq unties Elphaba’s hands, but makes no further move to do anything helpful to either side of this argument. He glides to a landing, exhaling in relief at no longer having to put stress on wings that haven’t even healed yet, and says that he’s not going with either of them, please and thank you. He’s going to leave right now, and don’t they dare try following him, or… else! In the short term, he is going to find someplace to get a decent coffee, and in the long term he is going to find a nice quiet farm to work on or a tradesman to apprentice for or perhaps even risk trying to fly over the great desert at some point just to get away from ALL THE CRAZINESS AROUND HERE. GOOD DAY TO YOU BOTH. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR REBELLION OR ATTEMPTS TO DEFEAT SAID REBELLION. BOQ OUT!
And he throws up his hands in exasperation and turns on his heel and marches away.
This isn’t bad. It’s just the wings bit that’s a little badly written, because it’s sort of unnecessary. I think I just like it for the drama. We can’t have (musical) Boq without a little transformation-related body horror at some point, now can we? He’s just lucky it’s not as all-encompassing this time.
Really though, the fact that it’s unnecessary and dramatic maybe just adds to the humor. Like, wow, good job giving me wings and making me look like a super powerful protagonist, I’m going to squander that immediately by wanting nothing to do with flying or protagonist-ing. You chose the wrong test subject, loser.

Surely, We Can Make Miracles Chapter 1
Tall Sailor: Hmmhmhmhmm~
Short Sailor: Don't go humming like that before sunrise.
Tall Sailor: The sun is already rising. I know the sky's still dark and the moon is shining bright, but look--the water on the horizon line is starting to turn red.
Short Sailor: That ain't what I mean. If you sing a song on the water on a night like this, with the moon hangin' overhead, you'll call mermaids.
Tall Sailor: Mermaids, huh… They sound pretty scary, but I still wanna see one someday. You ever see one, bro?
Short Sailor: Nope. But you've heard what they're saying, right? …That they're bein' seen around here lately.
Tall Sailor: Yeah… They said people comin' here to sightsee are reelin' them in from the ocean… I think.
Short Sailor: Yeah, that's right. So don't go singin' any songs. They're attracted to the sound of songs over the waves.
Tall Sailor: Scary… But I really do wanna see one. Don't they have silver scales that shine as beautifully as moonlight?
Short Sailor: Anything as pretty as the moon is an obvious red flag, man. The moon's <the Great Calamity> after all. It's gonna destroy the world someday. We should quit all this spooky talk while it's still shinin' above us.
Tall Sailor: …Yeah, alright… …Hey, bro. Do you know where mermaids live?
Short Sailor: The bottom of the sea, of course.
Tall Sailor: I know the bottom of the sea is the bottom of the sea, but like… You know. What about that island a wizard sank?
Short Sailor: …Y'mean Adams Island?
Tall Sailor: Yeah. I heard they live in the sunken Adams Island. Mermaids living in the ruins of a human city, at the bottom of the deep blue sea… Do you think they know how to use human furniture and stuff? Like, do they open and close doors and sleep on beds?
Short Sailor: What the hell are you talking about? You're putting too much stock in fairytales. C'mon! Put your hips into it and help me pull in these nets!
Tall Sailor: …One, two…!
Short Sailor: …Hey! Check it out! We've got a great haul here!
Tall Sailor: …Oh, we do! We reeled in a bunch of nice 'n ripe mermaid apples!
Short Sailor: Mom'll be glad to see them! Her mermaid apple pie is always so good……?! …?!?!
Tall Sailor: …?!
Short Sailor: What was that just now…?! I heard somethin' real loud, and then the water started movin' weird…
Tall Sailor: Ah… Bro, look…!! The red light on the horizon wasn't the sun! The ocean's surface is glowing red…!!
Short Sailor: What's goin' on…?! It looks like the water is burning up… Uwagh…!! Th-the boat's gonna capsize…! Th-that's a pillar of fire…! There's a huge pillar of fire comin' up from the bottom of the sea…!
Both Sailors: Uwaaahhh…!!
✦✧☾✧✦
Shylock: Welcome. Has something happened? You seem to be in quite a panic…
Wizard with Hat: Bad news, Shylock! A Northern wizard named Balthazar is here in Western Country!
Blonde-Tressed Wizard: He's got magic so strong, he completely took control of Adams Island before we knew it!
Shylock: Oh my. Why would a Northern wizard, with the pride they have in living somewhere so harsh, come here? And why bother taking over Adams Island when it's so small?
Wizard with Hat: I heard he lost a turf war in the North, and that's why he's moving south.
Blonde-Tressed Wizard: It was Oz, he lost to Oz. He's the scariest and strongest ancient Northern wizard around. Once Oz began his conquest of the North, wizards started abandoning their territory one after another.
Shylock: And this Balthazar is doing the same?
Wizard with Hat: Probably…
Cloaked Wizard: Shylock! You need to run! Balthazar is coming here!
Blonde-Tressed Wizard: He's what?!
Cloaked Wizard: He's turned the Western archipelago into a complete mess, and now he wants the City of Nectar, too! He said the first thing he's gonna do to rule over this place is slaughter you! You need to pack your things and go!
Shylock: While I would certainly not call myself the "ruler" of this place, I have no intention of handing over land with such a beautiful view over to anyone else. Nor do I have any intention of leaving. This is my shop.
Wizard with Hat: What are you saying, Shylock?! Not even you have a chance of going up against a Northern wizard!
Witch with a Blue Ring: What about Murr?! Could we ask him to help?! That genius you adore so much is here, isn't he?!
Shylock: You seem to have quite the misapprehension about my feelings for him… Professor Murr Hart is quite rude and impolite, you know.
Witch with a Blue Ring: Is he? Then should I call him the genius that adores you so much?
Shylock: That would also be quite incorrect. Regardless, Murr is currently absorbed in his research. It's impossible to contact him for the time being. I don't even know where he is at the moment.
Witch with a Blue Ring: Oh no… Then what will you do…?!
???: <Mare Praeda>
Shylock: …! All of you, get down…!
Cloaked Wizard: Waahh…!!
Witch with a Blue Ring: Kyaa…!
Shylock: <Inviebelle> …Are all of you unhurt?
Witch with a Blue Ring: Thank you, Shylock. Your barrier protected us… But those glasses you love so much took the hit instead…
Shylock: You needn't fret over them. It's an acceptable loss, as long as all of you are alright.
Wizard with Hat: But they were such lovely glasses, and you always handled them with such care…
???: Tch… This shop is little more than a redressed animal pen.
Shylock: …
???: Which one of you is Shylock.
Shylock: That would be me.
Blonde-Tressed Wizard: Shylock…!
???: You, is it?
Shylock: I'd prefer if you didn't step any further into my bar. You are banned from entry.
???: …What?
Shylock: This is my bar, and I've decided that you don't deserve to come inside of it. And thus, you are banned from entry. Please leave. Balthazar.
Balthazar: <Mare Praeda>
Wizard with Hat: Shylock…!
Balthazar: This city belongs to me. And now I'm going to turn you to stone.
Shylock: Please, do make your attempt. Though as I recall, you've already given up your territory…
Balthazard: …Bastard…!
Shylock: And unlike you, I love this place, so I shall not be giving you even a millimeter of it. Even if I should turn to stone, my soul will remain. And that will never belong to you.
Balthazar: You certainly love to hear yourself talk, for a fragile Western wizard. <Mare Praeda>
✦✧☾✧✦
Chloe: And then what happened?! How did you beat that Northern wizard?!
Shylock: I didn't defeat him. In the end he sank along with Adams Island, and that was that.
Chloe: I'm suuuuper interested in hearing about everything that happened in the middle, though!
Rustica: As am I. For instance, why did Adams Island sink in the first place? What about you, Master Sage?
Akira: I'm interested, too. How did you keep your shop safe from that Northern wizard?
My name is Masaki Akira. On a night with a full moon, I was pulled into this strange world. A world that contains both magic and wizards to cast it. At the moment, I live in this manor alongside twenty-one of those wizards. So that one day, we may save this world from <the Great Calamity> that tries to destroy it.
Chloe: I know! Murr came and saved you!
Murr: Me! I helped!
Chloe: Right now, your soul is in pieces because you got too close to <the Great Calamity>, but…
Murr: My soul broke! And now bits of my soul are aaaall over the world!
Rustica: It's very impressive that you can introduce yourself, Murr.
Murr: Yaaaay! Teehee!
Akira: (Introducing yourself by announcing your soul got broken is one heck of an introduction…)
Chloe: I heard that the old Murr was smart, cool, and better at magic than the Murr we have now. The shards of your soul that we've met so far did all seem like intellectual types, and they were kind of intimidating, but really cool, too… So wouldn't the real Murr be like, super duper strong and cool and amazing?
Shylock: My, I wonder. Though it is true he was quite formidable.
Chloe: I wish I could've met himmmm! And you and him had a really deep relationship, didn't you, Shylock?
Shylock: Well. You know how it is.
Chloe: I'm soooo curious!
Rustica: Well, Murr? Were you the one who saved Shylock's bar?
Murr: Umm… I forgot!
Shylock: Fufu… It's getting quite late. I should close up shop soon.
Chloe: Whaaaat? But I wanna hear more of your story!
Shylock: I can continue it another time. Our dear Master Sage is looking tired.
Akira: You're right… I want to hear how the story ends, but I guess we should get some rest first. Chloe, when you get to hear the rest of it, be sure to come get me so I can hear it, too.
Chloe: Of course! Let's get all excited about it together!
Rustica: Well then, Master Sage, allow me to escort you to your room.
Akira: Oh, no, you don't need to. I mean, it's pretty close by.
Shylock: Won't you let Rustica be your escort, Master Sage? We've only just weathered a terrible incident here in our very home, after all.
Akira: That's true…
✦✧☾✧✦
Just a few days ago, this manor had gone up in flames. The enigmatic wizard Nova had launched a surprise attack.
Akira: …The flames are…!
Shylock: Master Sage…! You need to get out of here!
Even though the manor was supposed to be protected by a very strong magical barrier. Nova had broken through it and invaded, and almost killed the world's strongest wizard, Oz.
Oz: …gh…!
Mithra: Oz…!
It seemed that <the Great Calamity> wasn't the only enemy we needed to face. There was no lack of danger here in this world. Knowing that the world's strongest wizard was nearby had been a pillar of mental support for everyone, and the injuries he'd taken had shaken that pillar. And I had also lost a friend that I hadn't even gotten the chance to say goodbye to. Although I'm not sure "lost" is the right word…
Akira: Huh… What happened to the purple sapphire shard…? Do you know what happened to shard of your soul that we found in the botanical gardens?
Murr: I ate it!
Physical actualizations of the pieces of Murr's soul existed all over the world. They were all friends that I'd never get to meet again. But the result of those shards being put back together was right in front of me: Murr himself. So I didn't want to think I was actually saying goodbye to them. It was just that something a bit strange had happened. That's all. I'd lived through so many dizzying, hectic days here in this world, but with my ever-reliable wizards at my side, I'd gotten through all of them.
✦✧☾✧✦
Akira: Well, I should be getting back to my room now.
Rustica: Give me your hand, Master Sage. I shall take you there.
Chloe: I'll go with you! What will you do, Murr?
Murr: I'm gonna help Shylock close up!
Shylock: My, what a good boy you're being.
Murr: Master Sage! We're all going to Borda Island three days from now, right?
Akira: Yes. We were all invited to a lunch party with the island's new lord. I think…her name is Dianne Chenon.
Rustica: I've heard she's quite friendly towards wizards. I'm very much looking forward to meeting her. The last time we paid the island a visit, she was unfortunately away on pressing business.
Shylock: This is the second time she's made such an invitation. The mourning of the deaths in the Western royal family is still ongoing, so I imagine she's been quite busy in the interim.
Chloe: A lunch party means formal clothes! And I made new outfits for everyone! Look forward to them, okay?
Murr: Yaaaay! Can I see them right now?
Chloe: Noooo! You have to look forward to them!
Murr: That works, too! I love looking forward to things!
Akira: I'm looking forward to seeing them, too! Ah… That reminds me. Miss Dianne wrote in her letter that she had something she wanted to discuss during the party. It sounds like some kind of weird incident happened…
Shylock: Perhaps it's another odd phenomenon caused by <the Great Calamity's> influence.
Akira: That's what I was thinking… I'll probably need to rely on you all again when the time comes.
Shylock: But of course. That we may be of help to you, Master Sage, is an honor unto itself. But for now, you should get yourself to bed. Goodnight, Akira.
Murr: G'niiiight! See you tomorrow!
Akira: Goodnight. I'll see you both tomorrow.
✦✧☾✧✦
Once again, my name is Masaki Akira. On a night with a full moon, I was pulled into this strange world. This world has five countries--Central, North, West, East, and South--where wizards and humans live side by side. Each country's people have different temperaments from the others, and their feelings towards wizards are just as varied.
✦✧☾✧✦
Central Citizen: Wizards? I'd wanna make friends with one. But they've got that strength that no one but them can see. So I think a solid system for managing them so that bad wizards can't do whatever they want is necessary. Don't you think so? Though I'd feel bad for the good wizards that'd be forced to live under those same restrictions.
****TL note: Balthazar's spell is <Mare Praeda>, which translates extremely loosely to "prey of the sea".

Mind telling me more about your ramshackle ocs?
Ollie is the MC which is why she's the one who has Grim almost all the time. She's the closest with Ogre and the one they promised to come help if she calls them. She tends to be naive but is relatively strong willed, loyal and honest and will not give up even when someone tells her to or gives her a reason to give up.
Aura is a half fae and has been given an appearance similar to sleeping beauty but not exactly like her. She's the love interest of Malleus and one of the few in the dorm who can use magic as well. She's naturally soft and kind to the people around her but can and will put her foot down when the time calls for it.
Oz is a bear beastman and he has weak magic but can cast cloaking/tracking spells with ease. He's a lover of magical creatures and tends to smuggle them onto campus even though he can get in trouble and at times gets caught but that doesn't stop him.
Shayla is the fae jaguar of the dorm and takes nocturnal classes due to being up more at night. She is the daughter of Tiifu and Ambert and the half sister to Ella. When she's around, she's naturally quiet and has been stated to be selectively mute, usually speaking with her phone like Idia does with his tablet.
Venn is a newer member that Ollie has Ogre threaten Crowley into letting stay. They're always seen with Aura the most and tend to practice their summoning magic after school due to not wanting to cause a commotion within the school among the students. They're generally very friendly and won't hesitate to help others.

Rosegarden Week Day 7 ❤️💚🌹: Proposal | Will You Marry me...
Years had passed after the defeat of Salem at Vale, but that does not mean her influence had vanished from Remnant completely. Some still lived in fear, while others became worshippers of Salem. Despite the fear, small groups of people were brave enough to face the future and live. The Gods had restored magic to humanity, allowing semblances to become whole once more.
Oscar had returned to Haven and sat in his room, reflecting on his journey. For the past four years, Ruby and he have been traveling while helping as many people as possible. Blake and Yang had retired after the war and started a family together. Weiss had returned to Schnees to help the Atleasians rebuild Atlas and help her brother reclaim the Schnee name. Ruby had even received a letter from her stating that she was also seeing someone now. Nora and Ren were happy, and Jaune was living his dream as a huntsman. His family was proud of him.
While the others had relaxed, Ruby and Oscar were on edge. They traveled all over together to ensure that no remnants of Salem existed. On the journey, their feelings for each other grew more. They had revisited Atlas, Vacuo, Vale, and now Mistral. They recalled their journey together and decided to stop at Oscar's house before returning to Vale.
Oscar entered his room and quickly realized he had outgrown this room so much. The dust covered the majority of the furniture in the room. He walked deeper into the room and found the book he was reading before he left the farm. He began turning the pages and started to chuckle to himself.
"How long has it been?" He thought to himself
" I have been gone for six years. They could have at least kept my room clean." He snarked out loud as he waited for a response from Ozpin.
But no response came.
His happy expression changed to sadness as he recalled that Ozma had finished his journey. Ozpin, the chosen warrior, had died after completing his mission and left Oscar with magic power. Oscar missed him dearly. He knew Ozpin was pleased because he could die knowing the future was in good hands.
A knock suddenly came at the door, and Oscar turned around.
Ruby walked in.
Ruby had retired her combat gear and changed into a long black dress with a slit at the side. It went well with her red hood cloak.
" Are you feeling nostalgic?" Commented Ruby as she gently placed her hands in front of her.
"Yeah, I was." Said Oscar.
' It is weird...Everything is so calm, and humanity is finally able to thrive. I feel like I was fighting forever. Even the creatures of Grimm are gone now. " Said Ruby.
"Yeah, it is. I was worried, but I kind of miss Oz." Oscar admitted to Ruby.
Ruby smiled.
" So, you miss yourself? After all, you are the wizard, you know. " Said Ruby as she walked up to him and held his hand.
"Right... I guess. I am just confused by the calmness of everything. Cinder, Tyrian, and Salem are gone." Said Oscar as Ruby gently touched his face and listened to him speak.
" Trust me. I understand wholeheartedly. What should we do now?" Asked Ruby.
"Anything you would like." Said Oscar as he kissed her hand and gently caressed it.
Ruby turned slightly red and coughed.
" Um..."
" You know, Patch is a nice island for settling down. A dusty old crow told me." Said Ruby as he avoided eye contact with him.
" Oh, did he? Would a warrior be fine with domestic life?" Asked Oscar.
"Well....There is no war. Plus, I can always help people locally or take an overseas mission and come back. " Laughed Ruby nervously as she loosened Oscar's grip on her hand and started explaining.
There is also a teaching position open at Beacon. There is a cute wizard that would be perfect for it. It is an agriculture course, his favorite subject. " Continued Ruby.
" Yes."
" Yes to the job?" Asked Ruby nervously.
"Yes to both."
Ruby's face started to turn red.
" Four years have passed since the battle to save humanity. I think it is time for both of us to live our lives." Said Oscar.
Oscar walked over to ruby and gently interlocked his fingers with her, and they touched foreheads.
"Yeah, you are right." Laughed Ruby as they continued to touch foreheads.
Oscar then leaned forward and kissed her.

honestly i'm thinking about my overthrown ozpin au since someone reblogged an old post abt it
i'm just thinking abt his exile, how devastated and confused he was, yet trying desperately to stay optimistic, that surely this will all blow over
thinking abt ozpin going to old safehouses and old allies, only for those places and people to no longer be safe, being betrayed time and time again
thinking abt him retreating into the woods outside of vale, at first hoping that at least one village would help him, would believe him, only for even them to distrust him, for rumors to have been made, only for him to be damn near burned at the stake because some particularly religious people claimed he was a 'witch' (and isn't that ironic?)
thinking abt ozpin's trust and hope in people being completely shattered, even when it came to simple old civilians because even the children in villages were terrified of him
ozpin attempting to hide deep in the thickest part of the woods, making his own little house, having to call on the survival skills of several past lives just to get by
ozpin writing in journals, documenting his experiences, naming the various animals he kept around, doting on his sheep and his singular horse named Magpie (he misses qrow so, so badly), making a cloak/cape out of their wool
ozpin silently guiding lost travelers out of the woods to safety, despite his mistrust of them
ozpin being chased away, his home destroyed, losing his beloved horse, and having to run back into vale, because no other kingdom is safe
ozpin being found by roman and neo, two criminals being the only people that actually help him
ozpin falling into the trap of alcohol, trying desperately not to remember how his own father did the exact same thing
ozpin losing his arm and his cane, his murder of salems lackey being the catalyst to his ever-growing rage and his downfall
ozpin forcing grimm to bow to him, getting merlot to work for him and to get him his grimm arm, ignoring qrows and glyndas protests and anger
ozpin convincing adam taurus to work for him with the help of CME and watts, telling him that helping him would be the first step to truly liberating the faunus
ozpin completely overtaking vale in a single night, disabling pyrrha (but not killing her) and brutally murdering the newest beacon headmaster on live tv
ozpin reinstating vales monarchy, making himself the new king/emperor- because dictators are what people hate, because this is a way to unite people against him
ozpin taking in a little baby oscar and raising the ram faunus, and eventually cracking under his 'act' that is slowly not becoming an act and forcing oscar into brutal, nasty training (which is just an excuse to abuse the kid) and 'punishing' (abusing) him whenever oscar steps out of line
ozpin terrifying leo into working for him, and eventually taking mistral 5 years into his reign, officially creating the Oz Empire, but still lacking the lamp of knowledge due to team RWBY, JNPR, and to his shock and rage, salem
ozpin creating terrifying, monstrous grimm- anything from giant sea leviathans that could take down a whole atlas ship with a single snap of its jaws, to the horrifying infamous grimm known as The Consumption, a parasitic grimm that plants 'seeds' in people, before eventually overtaking their bodies in a horrifying burst, infecting the environment itself, craving and needing biomass to feed itself and grow
ozpin turning on the white fang and killing adam when he tries fighting back, utterly destroying the group with his empires far superior technology
atlas completely abandoning the other kingdoms, hoarding all the resources for itself, becoming a fascist police state
ozpin's magic affecting the environment- animals and plants becoming more and more aggressive, mimicking grimm, and grimm becoming far more aggressive, attacking literally everything in sight
ozpin taking vacuo, getting the sword of destruction, keeping it on him at all times
ozpin taking back the maiden powers, getting stronger and stronger every time he takes back his magic, killing raven and the summer maiden in the process
ozpin being furious when pyrrha is forced to kill cinder and pyrrha becomes the fall maiden
ozpin killing pyrrha not long before he goes to try and take atlas, getting the fall maiden powers, knowing that pyrrhas death tears apart jaune
ozpin having personally torn out rubys eye, and ruby having to take the time to adjust being down an eye
yang being mostly prosthetics because she's lost so much due to the war, despite trying to be careful and smart
blake losing an ear, having issues with her hearing and having to adjust to being HoH
weiss having chronic pain due to all the dust/magic damage all over her body, her eyesight slowly worsening
jaune losing his left arm, integrating his shield into it, and letting his hair grow out
nora having lichtenburg scars everywhere, and dealing with constant chronic pain, her joints being the worst because of the constant amount of force
ren being the least damaged out of the group, but still dealing with arthritis and lowered joint range
nora having nearly been paralyzed, so she has a sort of prosthetic on her spine to help her keep walking
pyrrha having a lot of prosthetics before being killed, which aided her a lot in her fights
oscar running away at 14 successfully with the help of qrow and RWBY, glynda dying in the process, and oscar having to deal with the awful amount of PTSD he has as well as his disabilities, and requiring a new prosthetic leg (which was based off of mercurys legs)
ozpin attacking atlas directly with his new, massive metallic/grimm wyvern the size of monstra, stealing the winter maiden powers from winter and killing her, killing ironwood, and destroying atlas with the sword of destruction
ozpin being practically half grimm, the grimm from his arm having covered half of his body, allowing him to control grimm, summon those shadow hands via glyphs, and allowing him to contort in horrifying ways and to regenerate the grimm part of himself (it's not painless, it hurts like hell)
ozpin finally being killed by oscar via the sword of destruction, ending the war
the kingdoms having several civil wars and wars between each other afterwards because no one can decide on how to tackle the history of the war
the veterans from all sides refusing to talk about the war
ozpin reincarnating in oscar, and due to oscar healing with his friends help, oscar takes no bullshit from oz, and as a result, oz slowly, slowly heals
oscar being adopted by ruby and penny, and grieving the loss of winter, yang, nora, glynda and pyrrha with the remnants of the two teams

Fashion in Oz: the Good Witches (4)
Tumblr media
After the original illustrations of the books, and after the heritage of the MGM movie, let's look at another big part of the Good Witches history: the Wiz. And we will start with the Wiz's equivalent of the Good Witch of the North, Addapearl the "Feelgood Girl", in her original Broadway incarnation.  [Note: I am certain there are things to say about the history of Afro-American fashion and symbolism in the Wiz's outfits, but unfortunately I do not have such a knowledge, so I'll stay with a superficial analysis based on what I see].(Note: sometimes Addapearl is written Addaperl. I will stick with the first writing because it is the one I am the most familiar with.] Already as you can see, the main color of Addapearl is blue - her outfit is made of all sorts of blue nuances, from teal to dark blue passing by cerulean and others. This does make her match the Munchkins, who also correspond to the color blue - and overall, it is a color chosen due to how "soft" it is and it highlights her "good" nature. The outfit is actually made of a dress, with a petticoat on top, and then a sort of translucid shawl-like cloak, forming a translucent hood around the witch's wild hair (in the Wiz all the witches have wild, spiky hair) before falling behind her as a sort of cape. Note that this cloak actually has little shining stars in it. The petticoat and dress themselves is actually patchwork in style, with various patches of different colors added in a quite disorderly order - and I think this is meant to reflect Addapearl's very own character. She is, in Urban Dictionnary's words, "hysterically clumsy", a mix of sweetness and craziness, the kind of witch prone to "crash her bubble" - as we see in the play her "magic tricks" often fail, and her exhuberant stage-girl persona contrasts heavily with her lacking abilities, and this sort of crazy bubbly personality does fit this strange blue patchwork dress - which, if you notice, has actually white gloves sewn on the skirt, to add a bit of strangeness to it all. The white gloves notably answer several white mail-like pockets also present on the skirt. She usually also carries with her a blue handbag, with on it a white glove, crescent-moon and star, that you can see in this picture:
Tumblr media
If you want to see more of the costume, you can actually check the Smithsonian/National Museum of African-American History and Culture website, since the costume was kept as part of the "Black Fashion Museum". You have a detailled description here:
https://nmaahc.si.edu/object/nmaahc_2007.3.10.1ab
And some more pictures here: https://www.si.edu/object/costume-gown-petticoat-and-jacket-addaperle-wiz-broadway%3Anmaahc_2007.3.10
Tumblr media
After seeing Addapearle in the original "The Wiz" musical, we need to take a peek at the recent "The Wiz Live" revival of The Wiz, back in 2015. What is truly fascianting here is that they did a complete reversal of the original Addapearl costume. Instead of having a floor-length, big dress with a small petticoat, here we have a smaller dress stopping above the ankle, with a longer, "full" coat. And instead of having a weird, bizarre, patchwork of color patches and sewn gloves, adding a sort of crazy whimsical nature to the witch, here we have much more refined, beautiful and delicate embroidering, with golden motif, suns and flowers, overall a very high-quality, "rich" outfit, for a more... well for a younger and I guess more "peppy" and energetic witch, leaning more into the "stage girl" aspect of the character. A last interesting detail would the hair of the witch, who is here literally shaped like a small witch hat. And it is more than just evoking a witch hat with a swirl, no, they actually did the whole brim of the hat with the hair too, to the point I thought at first this Appadearl wore a small blue witch hat... before realizing it was her hair shaped like that through a series of braids.
Tumblr media
"The Wiz", the movie, changed a LOT of things from the original musical, and those numerous changes notably reflect heavily on the very design of the Good Witches. For example the character of the Good Witch of the North, who was completely reinvented for the movie. Out with Addapearl (or Addapearle, or Addaperl, nobody seems to agree on how the name is written), now we have "Miss One". Now several details are kept such as... well, the blue color for the witch - who is still associated and making one with the Munchkins, as Addapearl did in the original musical, and as MGM's Glinda will do too in the 2011 Wizard of Oz musical (there is this specific trend in musicals to have the "welcoming witch" of Oz be the same color as the Munchkins, and it is something that can raise some interesting topic about the link of the Good Witch of the North with the Eastern Munchkins, in the original canon vs popular culture). And we still find some of the discreet star motif of the original Addapearl, not on a shawl/cloak though, but here in the dress of the little old witch, which has stars and moon crescents woven into it (you might notice the "star and moon" pattern being a recurring thing with the Good Witches). It is especially interesting here since in the movie adaptation of the Wiz, both Good Witches are associated with the color blue and the star motif - but more on that with Glinda's breakdown. Beyond that, a lot was changed. Most notably is the fact that, while The Wiz was just about retelling The Wizard of Oz in a Black style, with Black actors and a certain Afro-American feel to it, "The Wiz" the movie decides to have the setting be specifically a reference to New-York, with Oz being a twisted and fantastical mirror of the Big Apple - as a result, the various characters have a more "urban" feel and Miss One here is based after... a "bag lady". And if you don't know what a "bag lady" is, it is a very common "type" of homeless people, a stereotype based on how often you see homeless women carrying around all of their belongings in an incredible number of cloth and plastic bags. And here, Miss One is a witch-version of this, carrying around an enormous amount of blue bags wherever she goes. The other main change to the character is the movie's addition that Miss One is a "math witch", obsessed with numbers - and so we find this in her very design. Around the collar of her dress, various numbers are embroidered. In her various bags, big 3D numbers can be seen popping out ; she carries around her neck an abacus/counting frame... And even more - in her curly, cloud-like gray hair, if you look carefully, you will see blue streaks of hair shaped like numbers. You can't see them very well here, but take a look at this picture and they'll become obvious:

💎 Does Oz have any good music to behold? Maybe you should try dancing as a break someday! Maybe even with Dorothy for fun?
🍀 MONTY [EMERALD CITY COACHMAN] HAS RECEIVED YOUR LETTER! 🍀
Tumblr media
The coachman was sitting in his coach as usual, but had steered it off the golden path he so loathed and stopped it in the fittingly emerald grasses surrounding the gates. Sometimes it was a pleasure to truly pause and bask in an outside view of the stunning buildings, the architecture sharp and gleaming, as the outsider he still considered himself to be.
There was still a spark of wonder left, even though the star in his eye was often cloaked from view by his hat. He didn't want to fool those undeserving within the gates into thinking he wanted to be there, not at all. It was simply one more question avoided. The Oz-goers did like to pry into personal matters, especially if they were regular passengers.
They'd learn over time that the only person he'd divulge such information to was Dorothy, whether it took a singular tense ride or multiple for that to register. He was capable of small-talk, sure, but little more was afforded if he could avoid it.
Monty leaned further forward and crossed his arms, letting out a sigh as the postman caught up to him again. No coaches in Oz - even though his was the only one - boasted horses, driven by magical means and controlled by spoken or gestured commands, though the structures still remained. He wasn't in the carriage, but sat out in front of it near where a set of reins and such should've been.
He took the letter, waving the coach to a proper halt. It'd often spin wheels impatiently if he didn't. Writing would be difficult on moving ground.
Tumblr media
"You'd be pleased to know, dearest correspondent, that Dorothy comes to me with songs aplenty that she makes up. She sings nonsensical things, but all are lovely to my ears because they're in her voice. She's as close as a younger sibling to me, you know, and shares the bond for it.
She's never asked me to dance for or with her, but I would.
I think she knows.
I've had plates added to my shoes, see, akin to those of use in tap-dancing, and she used to comment on how I sounded like the horses. With the magic of the City, we've never had need for them for the coach, but I enjoy the clicking of their hooves.
I can dance to perform for anyone who asks, but no-one cares to see me in any context other than one sat-down driver.
It's a shame. The wind carries its own melody of chatter and laughter, and I wish I could move to pay it due respect, but duty calls. There will be a time, but not any time soon.
I'll dance with my sister dearest one day."

Song of Summer
Oop! I got another one! The Small Moments AU lives rent free in my brain, and I love sharing it with y’all! Also, if you have any questions, headcanons, or anything like that, send them my way!!!
Qrow was lounging on his wooden lawn chair, his straw hat resting over his eyes as he chewed idly on a stalk of hay. The day was hot, the air shimmering in the distance as cicada’s cried and the shade was barely a reprieve. Qrow didn’t mind much though, sure he had to forgo his usual charcoal work shirt and black canvas pants, and he definitely couldn’t wear his red cloak in this heat. No, now he had to wear a white billowy t-shirt with red embroidery along the collar, in the artistic shapes of crows and trees. Along with tan shorts, cuffed at the ends, and no shoes.
His black unicorn, Harbinger, wasn’t too far. He was napping in the shade of Qrow’s little shack at the edge of Oz’s property, laying down to preserve energy and because he felt safe to do so with Qrow around. He himself made damn sure there was a bucket of water for Harbinger, and a cool breeze blowing on them both whenever there could be. Wind magic was his second strongest type after all.
He was supposed to be working technically. As the officially unofficial grounds keeper of Ozpin's land, he took care of a lot. He’d generally let everything grow wild, but sometimes he’d snip loose branches before storms, top up artificial watering holes or feeders for animals as needed, get rid of invasive plants and bugs, and he’d patrol the grounds. Patrolling was his least favorite, but most important job.
He had to patrol, check for illegal traps, and free anything caught in them. He’d drive off trespassers, or occasionally save some poor lost soul in Oz’s forest. Or get rid of trespassers. Oz was fine with people wandering onto his property, so long as they didn’t touch anything. No taking souvenirs, no hunting or foraging without his express permission, and absolutely NO hunting of the rare or magical creatures in the woods. Those were protected species.
Right now though, Qrow was taking a break. He’d done his second patrol, topped up what needed to be topped up, and he’d gotten rid of a type of ivy that was extremely fast growing and could smother whole trees in a matter of days. He’d earned a little break for himself.
He lifted his hat as he heard approaching hooves. He smiled seeing the familiar black and white coat of Long Memory, Oz on her back. He was sporting a red bandana around his neck, white button up, with the sleeves rolled up to the forearm and blue jeans embroidered with vines and leaves in green thread along the sides, and his usual signature glasses; even if they resembled sunglasses more right now. “Good afternoon Qrow! I wanted to check on you, see if you needed anything.” Qrow waved a hand dismissively, “Nah I’m fine. So’s Harbinger. I appreciate the check up though Oz.”
Oz dismounted Long Memory and walked over, offering him a sip from his canteen. Qrow sniffed and took a swing, it was some kind of potion that cooled his entire body when he drank it. “Thanks. One of Glyndas?”
“Her recipe, but I brewed it.” he explained, sitting on the grass next to Qrow, sighing contently. “I may not like the heat, but I do like the way the world sings in the heat of the summer. Don’t you?” “It certainly adds the right touch, wouldn’t be the same without.” Qrow agreed, laying back on his chair and putting the hat back over his face. “Where’s Oscar today?”
“Visiting my brothers at home. They stopped by unexpectedly.” he hummed, playing with a wild thistle in his fingers. “I’d be over there, but it was getting a bit much. So I thought I’d check on you.”
“So to translate, you used me as “Get out of social engagement” free card?” he smirked, chuckling at how Oz blushed.
“I suppose it’s one way to look at it. But you know my brothers! Ozma and Diggs can get so… rowdy when we’re all together! I just needed a breather.” he almost seemed to pout, which Qrow thought was almost cute.
He shrugged, running a hand through his long messy black hair, speckled with strands of gray here and there, it was tied back in a messy ponytail at the moment. “Don’t gotta defend yourself to me Oz. I use you as an excuse just as much. I wanna leave, I just say “Oz needed me to get some work done on the property today! Gotta go!” and no one ever questions it!”
Oz laughed and shook his head fondly, “Well, you’re more than free to continue that practice. After all, what are friends for?”
“Cheers to that!” Qrow chuckled, sipping the cooling potion one more time before handing it to Oz, who also took a big swig.
They sat like that for a bit, listening to the song of summer around them. Their horses lay in the shade, snorting at each other, cicadas crying out looking for their potential mates, the occasional breeze from Qrow cooling them and rustling the drying grass. A true symphony.
Qrow eventually stood and stretched, “Alright, you should head back, I’ve got some work to do after… all. Huh.” Looking at his companion, he found Oz had fallen asleep. Hands behind his head, relaxed expression, chest moving up and down in a slow steady rhythm. There were wild thistles, black eyed susans, and regular daisies framing his sleeping form. The picture made Qrow smile, Oz just looked so peaceful. But he was also pale as anything, and Qrow didn’t want him to burn.
He picked up a stick and poked at Oz with it, “Hey! Sleepin beauty! Wake up!”
Oz grumbled and swatted a bit at the stick, but his eyes squinted open. “Qrow? Oh goodness did I fall asleep?” He rubbed his eyes and  yawned, stretching languidly. But suddenly froze.
“…Oh gods I’ve been gone too long! Long Memory! Here girl!” He sprang up, as did the horse, and Oz quickly hopped onto her bare back, and smiled sheepishly at Qrow. “Thank you for waking me, I deeply appreciate it! I’ll see you soon Qrow! Come by the house if you want! HIYAH!” With a light kick, Long Memory ran off, leaving Qrow and Harbinger alone once again.
“See ya’round Oz.” he chuckled, walking towards Harbinger. Time for another patrol. Maybe he’d catch sight of Ozpin's brothers on his way around. Who knows?

Oz does sometimes take interest purely from skill. The books imply that was the case for Team CFVY. Whether that would have turned to fill secret was initiation or just his favorite public Huntsman team for less cloak and dagger missions is unclear, but they don't really have anything magically special about them to grab his attention.
yes, after the fall does mention team cfvy as similar to team rwby as a team ozpin had chosen to draw attention to. the one special team every year that stands out from the rest. obviously ozpin would keep an eye out for talented and skilled teams to fill his ranks with—he can't exactly wait for only magically capable individuals as that's a very limited pool to choose from to begin with, and he risks running out of allies in the meanwhile before he comes across one.
(like seriously, if we assume there were no other silver-eyed warriors working for ozpin between summer and ruby, that's ~20 years, and that's a mother-daughter duo. imagine how long it could take with completely unrelated people.)
but this isn't about teams, it's about individuals. and i can't remember or find any point in the book where any specific member of team cfvy would have caught ozpin's eye—let alone have it happen before they're even accepted to attend beacon.
of course, we know about the twins catching ozpin's attention from raven's perspective—we don't know if qrow noticed the same thing. so, for all we know—and if there is a reason for it other than skill—ozpin's attention wasn't on both of them, it was on raven alone, but since the two of them were close, to raven it would look like ozpin was keeping his eye on both of them.
obviously, this is just speculation. it could very well be nothing, but the whole "no one ever said summer was dead" has calibrated my brain to look for choice of words for hints, and the switch from "ozpin knows we're bandits" to "nvm he's interested in team strq only" despite getting ozpin's attention before team strq was even a thing is the exact type of thing that sets off all kinds of alarms.

Lumiere of Bonds Lit in the Dim Night
Thank you for your patience!! I’ve been doing some traveling c:
Tumblr media
⋆⁺₊⋆☾⋆⁺₊⋆Chapter 4⋆⁺₊⋆☾⋆⁺₊⋆
Oz’s hair and cloak flutter in the wind. But the crimson eyes staring at the black dog never wavered.
Tumblr media
Oz: “Perhaps….it's something that manifested from someone’s thoughts.”
Oz: “A doll or a figurine?…….There are signs that protective magic was cast.”
Oz: “It probably gained substance under the influence of the <Great Disaster>.
Shino: “….Well, I guess.”
The Eastern wizards nodded in agreement. When we heard the villagers' story, everyone must have had the same thought.
The black dog's true identity is a stuffed animal that was cherished by the wizard's son while he was still alive.
I explain what we heard from the villager earlier to the wizards who don’t know what’s going on.
Chloe: “I see…..so his son is….
Heathcliff: “….The stuffed animal was said to be made by a wizard. I’m sure he’s the one who cast the protective spell as well.”
Nero: “I guess he let his son have it as a protective charm.”
Cain: “He must have left it behind at home with the furniture when he left…..”
Shylock: “It’s a stuffed toy he made for his son, I’m sure he must have some emotional attachment to it.”
Faust: “Memories aren’t only for saving people. Sometimes they can hurt us badly too .”
Oz: “……….”
An abandoned ruin where time has stopped.
I imagine a stuffed dog left behind in the dark, without a hand to hold it.
It was a very lonely scene.
Akira: “………”
Everyone’s eyes naturally gravitate to the black dog.
Looking at it sitting at Heathcliff’s side, Shino opened his mouth.
Shino: “You were abandoned.”
Heathcliff: “Hey, you can’t talk that way.”
It was Heathcliff who immediately responded to Shino’s words.
Shino: “And this guy probably mistook Heath for his dead son.”
Shino: “There’s no place for him here. It would be better to eradicate him now.”
Heathcliff: “Right now……”
Shino: “Hey. Did you really change your mind in such a short time? It’s different being next to Heath in the first place.”
Shino: “And, you’re not even his master.”
Heathcliff: “You’re right, but….! Even so, that doesn’t mean that you have to talk like that in front of him! You should think about this guy's feelings a little more.”
Shino: “I’m saying this because I’m thinking.”
Heathcliff: “…Oh, is that so. I guess I didn’t know that Shino was actually so heartless.”
Heathcliff: “Come on, come on. Let’s go over there.”
Shino: “Ah, hey……!”
Heathcliff took the dog and walked away as quickly as he could.
Shino: “….Hmph. Heath’s so obstinate.”
Shino also turned away and walked briskly in the opposite direction.
Akira: “Huh, both of you….!”
Faust: “Good grief……well, don’t worry about it too much. They’re always fighting like this.”
Nero: “Right. We’ll just see how it goes for the time being…...”
Chloe: “But I’m still worried…..I’m going to follow Heath for a bit!”
Shylock: “Well then, let me come with you.”
Cain: “I’m going to go check on Shino. Let’s go, Master Sage!”
Akira: “Yes!”
Nero: “Huh? Wait a minute….”
Faust: “………..”
Oz: “………..”
Nero: “………..”
Nero: (Awkward…..)
Akira: “Shino!”
When we called out to him, Shino stopped and turned his head.
Akira: “Why don’t we go back to everyone for a moment? Chloe and Shylock are calling Heath back too.”
Shino: “……….”
Cain: “I’m sure there must be a reason why you said what you did earlier.”
Cain: “I know you’re not the kind of guy to speak negatively about the things Heath likes without thinking.”
Hearing Cain’s words, Shino slowly turned his head away. Then spoke in a quiet voice.
Shino: “It's because that guy….that dog doesn’t want to look any more pathetic.”
Shino spins around and looks back at us. Contrary to what he just said, his red eyes were very powerful.
Shino: “He now believes that Heath is his master, and is determined to protect him. But….”
Shino: “Enough about that person already, poor guy. He was born to protect his master, but he couldn’t.”
Shino: “His beloved master is nowhere to be found.”
Cain & Akira: “……..”
Shino: “That’s not all. In the end, he was even abandoned by the one who made him.”
Shino: “What if that guy realizes the truth?”
Akira: “Ah…..”
Shino’s words open my eyes to the reality of the situation.
Shino: “I'm sure that’ll be more painful to him than dying. He would curse his powerlessness for not being able to protect even himself.”
Shino: “That’s why it’s better to eradicate him before that happens.”
Shino said that while looking us straight in the eyes.
It’s the same look he had when he was staring at the black dog. His red eyes are shining like a blade without hesitation.
Akira: “Shino…”
Just like that black dog, Shino has someone named Heathcliff that he has to protect.
That’s probably why Shino was able to see the black dog's way of being, because he was superimposing himself on it.
The single-minded devotion to his master, and the pain of not being able to fulfill it, are painfully clear to Shino.
Akira: (So that’s why Shino wants to erase the black dog…..)
So as to not let the longing for his master be overwhelmed by great sorrow.
Cain: “……..”
Cain was looking straight at Shino in the same way.
Cain: “I have a master named Arthur myself, so I know what you mean Shino.”
Cain: “And I know how it feels when you can’t fulfill your role.”
Cain: “….I lost my position as head of the Order and was unable to fulfill that noble duty until the end.”
Shino: “…….”
Cain: “I know it’s my fault. But, it was so frustrating that I can’t put it into words.”
Cain: “I thought I was the one who would lead the people who protect the king and country.”
Gently, Cain touched the large sword he carried on his waist.
Cain: “And now, as Arthur’s knight, I have a role to play in protecting him. If I couldn’t do that…..”
Cain: “I could never forgive myself.”
Cain kept his eyes trained on Shino while he uttered such powerful words. After taking a pause for breath, his expression softens.
Cain: “That’s why I understand your feelings and words so painfully well when you speak of that black dog.”
After giving Shino a sad look, I put my hand on his shoulder as if to speak to him.
Cain: “But even if it’s a lie, for him, it’s a miracle to be reunited with his master.”
Cain: “When that time comes, how about taking care of it together?”
Shino: “………”
Shino’s eyes flickered slightly.
Akira: “If you tell him how you feel Shino, Heath will surely understand.”
Akira: “However, just like Shino, that child is also someone who adores Heath and wishes to protect him.”
Akira: “I don’t think he’ll be able to leave Heath alone, even if he’s mistaken….. ”
Shino pondered for a moment, then slowly nodded. His strong-willed, large red eyes turned straight toward us.
Shino: “……until the night of the ceremony is over.”
Chloe: “Heath, are you okay?”
Shylock: “May we join you?”
Heathcliff: “Chloe, Shylock….”
Heathcliff: “I'm sorry for worrying you both….I just lost my temper because of what Shino said.”
Heathcliff: “I’m still a kid myself……”

Hmmm, what are the different cultures like in the small moments au? Like food, clothes, etc.
And as an alt question:
What are some creative ways magic is used in the small moments au? Is it used in food and drinks? Are there issues with substance abuse with magic? Since we know about Oz's whole thing. Is it woven into clothes.
If it is mixed into everyday objects, what exactly does it do.
Yes! I love these questions! I'm gonna answer all of them, cause it's a fun topic! Just gonna put it under a read more cause it might get long.
So cultures. Vale as a country somewhat resembles Europe. Lots of different cultures and languages. Ozpin grew up in an area of Vale that more resembles Scotland. But he lives in a place more like Ireland right now.
Clothing is about what you'd find in European countries, it depends on where you go. Ozpin himself only dresses in more "traditional" clothing for special events, he prefers his usual style.
Clothing isn't really gendered as much in Vale, it's more a personal choice of the wearer.
That's not the case in every continent. Atlas is more strict about "boy clothes" and "girl clothes." Mistral is more lenient, but still not quite to degree of Vale. Vacuo absolutely does not care, wear what you want, just make sure it's practical for the hot climate.
As for food, it depends on the area. Some places prefer more mild dishes, some prefer more flavorful stuff. But spice trading is highly lucrative trade, not just because of flavor, but often the spices and herbs needed in certain recipes can also be used in potions! So even in areas where they don't have as much demand for cooking spices, those spices are still easily accessed for potion making.
Ozpin has a very ranged palette, he's eaten a lot of stuff, good and bad. He was also raised with a lot variation in his diet. Ozymandias preferred milder food without a lot of spices, while Ambrosius much preferred spicy and flavorful foods. Oz himself has a preference for more flavorful foods, but sometimes when he misses his dad he'll make his dads porridge or a Burns Supper (haggis with neeps and tatties).
I might get more into it in a separate post since I could go more into detail lol.
~
Now as for the other questions!
Magic can be used in food and drinks! Usually it's used in medicine, meant to be paired with a potion. But it can also be mixed into a recipe for other affects, minor healing, strength boosting, speed boosting, or even as a trap by putting people to sleep!
Magic itself can't become addictive, but it can be used to boost the affects drugs give. Mix some plant potency magic into some weed for the high of your life, etc.. It's incredibly dangerous and affects can last a life time. Ozpin himself, while he did use drugs in his past, he never mixed magic and never used magically enhanced products. He thought that people do did that were idiots.
Magic can be mixed in with clothing, it's a similar process to dying it really. It can make your clothing water proof, fire proof, tear proof, even add shielding. Ozpin once made a cloak sentient, mostly on accident, but it still waits for him in Ozmynadias’s attic. Along with a number of toys he brought to life in his youth.

OUAT Thoughts Pt.29--Episodes 16-17
I have watched through S3E17; spoilers DNI. Also, spoilers warning for anyone further behind than I am.
—Bae’s death was a knife wound. Bae’s funeral was twisting the knife, adding salt, and dunking me in a vat of lemon juice. Everyone who knew him put dirt on his grave—including his son and Hook. Hook is what really gets me.
—Oh, wait. Not everyone. Rumple didn’t even get to be there. That destroyed me. Rumple did everything to find Bae, and still Bae died and Rumple didn’t get to be at his funeral. That’s so fricking unfair.
—My feelings on Regina and the Wicked Witch are b*tch (affectionate) vs. b*tch (derogatory). Regina shows up for their magic duel wearing black, red gloves, and perfect lipstick, and I’m all, “Yes, Queen, look fabulous while you duel 🫶🙌💅.” Zelena spends time getting dressed up for the duel, and I’m like, “Girl, stop being so petty and dramatic, what’s your problem.”
—The last thing Regina needed was a bratty older sister. When it comes to parents, neither of them really got a great draw. Each of them got one decent parent and one really crappy parent. And it’s not like Regina asked for or wanted the life that Zelena is so jealous of—but Zelena is so self-centered, she would never even consider that. I get the feeling Zelena would be an enthusiastic participant in the Trauma Olympics.
—But she got hers. Turning green because she’s jelly of Regina is a hilarious twist.
—Oz is a gorgeous set piece. I don’t know, or care, if it’s actual decor or CGI, it’s absolutely stunning. Gold and vibrant green are just mean to be together.
—While Oz itself is beautiful, I’ve actually found the Oz characters to be disappointing. So far, all we’ve got is the Wicked Witch, the flying monkeys (who barely even count), and a rather fleeting, meaningless encounter with the Wizard. While I do usually love the intertwining of multiple stories with each other, it feels like Oz needs more structure and world-building on its own. Having more of the characters present as their own entities (the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, Glinda, and that’s just off the top of my head) would have been more rewarding after the long buildup for Oz.
—I’m quite pleased to see the silver slippers. Yeah, the red shoes are iconic, but using the OG silver is splendid.
—I love how Hook gives zero hecks and wears his pirate clothes in Storybrooke. Everyone else wears clothes appropriate to the environment, but Hook is still 99% pirate. (The other 1% is the fake hand he attaches instead of his hook.)
—That one time he wore a knight-like disguise in the Enchanted Forest was a very good moment for him. And for me. That outfit was gorgeous on him.
—Blackbeard was a rather generic pirate. Now, I don’t expect he’s ever going to come up again, at least in any significant capacity, so that’s fine, but he could’ve looked more intimidating. If even Hook is going to be somewhat afraid of him, he should look like the beefiest, wickedest, meanest pirate on the high seas.
—I adore Ariel for preferring swimming to walking. One of the things I hate most about OG!Ariel is that she acts like walking is for some reason superior, even though she’s never frickin tried walking in her life. OUAT Ariel has done both, and now she’s made an informed decision. Not to mention, mermaids having realm-crossing superpowers makes her preference logical (although preferences aren’t always, and don’t have to be).
—Eric’s cloak with the Ursula clasp is dope.
—Just when I thought Hook couldn’t get any angstier, now he has extra drama with Emma. And the word “yearning” has canonically been used to describe his feelings for her, so….
—Rumple being reduced to a slave to Zelena’s whims is killing me. Regardless of which side he fights for, he’s always been a beautiful, lively, crafty, witty man. He’s easy to root for because he’s almost larger than life, because he has complexity and intelligence and vitality. And now he’s been brought so low, and that eternally-entrancing spark in his eyes is gone. While his posture usually reflects his self-confidence, now his back is bent and his shoulders are hunched. Zelena has taken an uncannily bright man and destroyed him. I need somebody, anybody, to rescue him, because the worst part is, nobody can even be there for him because Zelena makes him dangerous. It’s all or nothing, and the nothing he has right now scares me.
—His powers of future sight are terribly inconsistent. Which is easily explained by the difficulty of interpreting the future, but still—how did he not see this coming?
—Regina’s method of training Emma is rather amusing. Also the fact that Emma just had to be extra in her use of magic.
—Poor Snow. She has not only a stubborn husband, but also a stubborn daughter, teaming up to try and build a crib. That baby will be safer sleeping on a table *jk* *don’t leave babies on tables*
—This entire town needs to schedule family therapy sessions with Archie. Sister-to-sister, couples, stepdaughter-to-stepmom, and Henry can have a great-uncle to great-nephew chat with himself. Really, though, these people might consider having conversations instead of internalizing everything and becoming evil. Just a thought.

Rewatching Captain America First Avenger and I'm so mad at how mcu brought back Red Skull. This dude is such a boss villain like he's truly an entity people get one look at and go That's A Bad Guy. Evil Nazi militant scientist who seeks to use magic for his own gain and instead of bringing him back as the True Leader of Modern Hydra, the bane of Steve Rogers's existence, who could have been commanding Hydra in a Wizard of Oz man behind the curtain style.
Instead Red Skull shows up in some random dimension in a grim reaper cloak with 0 contribution to the plot and no greater purpose than to act as a stage prop
