Devildom's Idol // Obey Me Brothers x Idol!Reader Headcanons
Tumblr media
As you stand on the stage, you realize after a long journey that you have made it. A mere human singing on a stage, surrounded by hundreds of demons singing along to your music.
It took time for them to recognize you, but no one could deny your voice or impact anymore. You sung your heart out on stage and that alone gave rise to the fanbase before you. You were truly an idol that transcended the realms.
The music blared and you raised your microphone to your mouth.
"Are you ready, Devildom?"
The crowd screamed and you smiled. You began singing, listening to the chants of fans and watching swirling light-sticks in the crowd. This was everything you ever wanted, but you didn't do it alone.
You glance to the person staring at you behind the stage, waiting for you to finish your last song. He had been with you every step of the way.
✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°
Lucifer
Definitely proud of you and having a famous partner is probably some type of ego boost to him.
Would be protective of you though, from fans and both the industry itself.
Not afraid to put any creepy idols or executives in their place.
Looking over contracts with your manager for sure.
You're just sitting there as they go back and forth on the prices to negotiate for.
Would be like a second manager to be honest.
Makes sure you eat and take care of yourself.
"MC, did you take a break, yet? You've been practicing since early morning." "Uh..."
Will pick you up and force you to sit down and rest.
He knows how hard your work to give your best performances.
You will have to do the same to him sometimes.
You both work too hard.
Mammon
Definitely would ask for like 10,000 grim whenever someone wanted a picture with you.
Partially out of jealously even if he denies it.
Would sell some random things of yours, nothing too personal, but a pen is definitely going missing when he can't fight the urge.
"Mammon?" "Yeah, MC?" "Where's my pen? "..."
He bolts every time.
Photoshoots together 100%
People would definitely realize you were together at some point.
There would be rumors and gossip, sometimes people talking bad about Mammon, but you didn't tolerate that at all.
He may not be perfect, but he was yours.
He secretly doesn't understand why someone as great as you is with him.
May or may not know some fan chants, but that's his business only.
Levi
Probably stans you
"I-I can't believe the idol MC hugged me???" "Levi... We've been dating for six months..."
Can't believe he's dating an idol
Is this an anime plot???
Posters of you in his room
Definitely fights to get merch of yours even though you could give him freebies
Would be jealous at other fans talking about you, but would then realize he's the only one that actually has you.
Still gets jealous though.
He tries his best to attend your concerts, sometimes he's overwhelmed, other times he's waving his light-stick and chanting in perfect harmony with the other fans.
You are both in awe and horrified at how perfect he does the fan chants.
Satan
Sometimes when he wants background noise while reading he'll put on your music.
Always manages to go to your concerts.
If anyone tries anything, they better be careful.
Once a demon tried to grab your hand and pull you close.
Satan got involved.
You prayed for that random demon.
Secretly feels like he has a one-up on Lucifer by dating you.
Not that it's the reason he's dating you, but it's a bonus.
Definitely would buy all the magazines that featured you in someway.
Front covers?? Interviews??? Boy has got it all.
He makes even the most dedicated fans look like fake fans with his collection.
"Satan, you don't have to buy every magazine I'm in," "I don't have to but I want to."
You wore cat ears a fan gave you once and it literally broke him.
Asmo
Selfies everyday, and I mean everyday.
Everyone in Devildom would be delusional if they didn't notice you were together
The most sought after demon and the most sought after idol??
Definitely lots of talk about you two.
You used to sing at his "Asmo Nights" but the crowd got too large at some point and Diavolo had to step in to prevent a hazard.
So, only sing at concerts please, for Diavolo and Barbatos' sake.
You find out that boy can sing and the Devildom is flipped upside down when you two release a duet.
However, even with all the attention, he would always make sure that you know he's loyal to you. He doesn't care about others or fans as much as he cares about you.
Your love is what he needs most.
"You know I love you the most, right? <3"
Beel
Feel like he would be proud of you, but in the end it wouldn't matter to him if you're famous
He just likes you for you
And your cooking
I can see him going to every event though, waving a light-stick in one hand while munching on something with the other.
Seeing how hard you work makes him hungry.
He would be protective of you though, not afraid to step in if a fan was getting too close.
Brings extra snacks into the practice room and tries his best not to eat them so that you can eat when you're done.
"MC, take a break," "I can't Beel, I still haven't got this step down," "Well, I brought your favorite," "..."
You try to say no, but your stomach growls and you end up beside him, munching together on your favorite snacks.
Belphie
Sings your songs while he's asleep.
You recorded him singing in his sleep. You watch the videos whenever you need to pick yourself up.
Tries his best to stay awake during your concerts, but if he can't, he'll find all the posts he can about it.
That way he can see if he missed anything.
Definitely makes it a goal to have you rest.
You are booked and busy, but you can't forget to sleep.
Admires how hard you practice.
But is possessive and hates when can't spend time with him.
Sleeps in the practice room as you learn new dances.
You wake him up when you're done and he just pulls you close and cuddles with you awhile.
"Belphie, I'm sweaty," "And?"
Eventually will let you go so you clean up.
✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°✧˖°
Hope you enjoyed. I tried my best to make things accurate, I'm still new to writing the boys and Satan gave me the toughest time. This is my second work and my first time doing headcanons in the fandom, hopefully I can do more soon, and maybe make this one a series!

Hazbin Hotel Episode 3 & 4 Opinions and Story logic (mostly)
(ignore any typos, it's 3 min til midnight and I have a con in the morning and was at one all day, i'm not reading through this)
(Episode 3: Scrambled Eggs)
It’s weird to me that Vaggie wants to get rid of the egg bois cuz like??? Are they not also sinners that need redemption? Don’t they need to be saved too? The problem was that they kept building weapons that Sir Pen told them to make. They just needed something else to do, like idk, act as staff for the hotel. They can build, so maybe they can fix the hotel up a bit more.
I get it was just so one of them could spy for Alastor, but like, just have one follow him randomly. That isn’t out of character considering the eggs don’t have one.
It doesn’t make sense to me that Vaggie is so broken up by not getting the hotel guess to bond with each other. I get that she feel like she’s failing Charlie, but like, Charlie has accomplished literally nothing up at this point.
Yeah, so far there’s only 4 episodes, and the most Charlies done in all of them is get the exterminations moved up to every six mouths and fuck over Angel majorly ( I'm soft-balling that right now).
Like she signs a random paper without reading it, which, like girl, you are the daughter of the devil, there is now way she doesn’t know about the importance of contracts. Not only that it absolute FUCKS OVER everyone in hell. And it’s just brushed off??? Like no?
The exterminations is a big deal to all sinners, no matter the rank. Even if no one else knows what she did, Charlie should be more effected by this. The contract thing should have happened mid season or at the end, with her becoming more frantic to prove that her idea work so she can save sinners. But instead its treated like an oopies and she does trust falls and bond activities as if that’s going to make anyone a better person. Them liking each other doesn’t redeem them of anything.
*episode 3…im talking about that…*
Its my favorite so far. I like Zestail, Carmillia, Velvette and that dino lady are my favorite characters. Genuinely surprised I haven’t heard more about Respectless because it is my favorite song. (But it did come out next of ep 4, so it make sense.)
I hope Carmillia’s daughters are adopted or where her kids in life cuz the idea that the sinners can have kids are stuck in hell like the imps is messed up.
I’m glad Velvette gets development in this episode. I was worried that she’d just be the woman (tm) character of the Vees and be pushed to the side, so I was happy to see her upfront so soon. She’s now my favorite of the three, sorry Vox. I also like that her hair style keeps changing, that’s a nice touch for the fashion oriented one of the Vees.
The hotel gang going to the bondage…idk what to call it..Club felt like a waste of time. It was there for a joke and that’s it. Then Vaggie takes them to a city war zone and throws Pen and Angel off the building while Husk sneaks away.
Admittedly Husk sneaking off was funny to me, but like why would Vaggie think this would make them trust each other. Angel has a mafia background and family. Best bet he’s had to get into a few fights with them, and if I’m remembering lore correctly, he hates most to all of his family but okay.
At this point I’m genuinely curious how this show is going to develop Charlie’s redemption plan, because everything we’ve shown them try has failed and been show to clearly leading to fail. I have a feeling that he show isn’t going to have an ending, its just going to end. Like, nothing regarding the redemption plot line had made a single step forward. There’s just one more of them not, that’s it.
The second song doesn’t feel earned from Vaggie’s side.
Conclusion: This one is the best so far. It being mostly away from the main cast is not a good sign but it’s only number 3.
(Episode 4: Masquerade)
*gestures to that hot fucking mess* I’m not touching most of it. If you’re reading this them you’ve probably seen better points than I can provide. So I’m just going working on the logic within the story.
Personally, I think the visuals are a little too much, and I can understand where it goes way to far for a lot of people. I’d like to note that while Helluva Boss has a working screen on every single episode this has jack shit which was a huge fuck up in my opinion. I don’t care what the shows rating is, adult content and sensitive content are two different things and need to be treated as such.
Any media that handles SA, SH or abuse needs a huge label like those FBI no pirating screens from back in the day. I am not joking.
*shit I toughed it moving back a bit*
Okay, so why did Charlie goes to Angel’s job KNOWING he was in the middle of working. Like she knows he makes porn. The episode starts with the hotel gang watching one and her being visible uncomfortable. Why would she go there? And not like, wait outside or something? (she was uncomfortable at the bondage place why wouldn’t that be any different here?)
Charlie not picking up how upset Angel was that she showed up to his job THE FIRST time is child levels of ignorance. Even without the seriousness of what was really happening, that was infuriating to watch. I get that she’s supposed to have rose tinted glasses but those things are opaque. By this point all of her ‘accomplishments’ have been fucking people over majorly. She is a hindrance to those around her and it is hard to watch.
*skirting around the trash fire a little bit more.*
( I’m not trying to make a joke about this but like, I don’t know how to express how fucking yikes this episode is. Like it’s such an uncomfortable topic and it’s fumbled so hard. And then for Viz to turn around and argue about it on twitter and shit, like come on.)
Husk and Angel arguing doesn’t make sense to me. Husk says doesn’t like Angel cuz he’s fake, ignoring that it’ coping, shouldn’t Husk’s reasoning that Angel makes him uncomfortable. He is clearly shown being bothered by Angel’s aggressive flirty and sex talk. Him being ‘fake’ comes out of nowhere. As does them fighting.
Three minutes in, Angel gets pissed at Husk dismissing his porno. Flirts with him when Husk reveals he knows about the other hotel gangs’ insecurities and secrets. Then gets pissy again when Husk does the same to him. If Angel is short with Husk this episode because of Val, then let that be that, but the back and forth is jarring.
Charlie being the one to go after Angel an comfort him would have been the one good thing she could have done in the show cuz to be honest she as done nothing but ruin things for everyone at this point.
The loser song happening IMMEDIATELY after Angel’s emotional moment is a gut punch. Like WTF. I could not imagine being on the production team, seeing this shit and not saying something. Like there’s not scene cut to Charlie writing those (pointless) letters, her talking to Vaggie about how she messed up, nothing.
Angel has his break down and Husk seconds later is singing about how shit sucks and he’s a loser. Without the context, that’s bad. With the context, it’s horrific.
Husk had/has a gambling addiction. Not to downplay that or invalidate anyone who has/is going through that but it is not the same as SA. Especially as Husk isn’t going through his problems right now while Angel had to go through it…what an hour before, two maybe. For a prolong period of time and has to go back to that.
Husk is talking about his problem in the past tense. Besides the Alastor thing, it’s behind him. Angel’s problem is in the present and future. And that’s not taking into account the guy at the bar who was going to drug him. Who Angel was going to let drug him.
I could not imagine being on the production team, seeing the script for this and not immediately being like, no. This show is making miss Helluva Boss I am not joking.
Positives: The song Poison is good. Just listen to the audio and nothing else and its great. Val’s coat being moth wings was neat to see (especially if you ignore everything that happiness before and after that one still shot). I like Valentino’s design. I’ve no people have a problem with his voice, but personally I don’t mind it.
Conclusion: I have mixed feeling on the aftermath of the episode. Acting like the problem is solved and not addressing it won’t treat the SA plot-line with the seriousness it deserves. On the other hand, I do not want to the show to touch anything like this again. If it just leaves it here, then at least its only the one episode instead of more.
Ignoring Viz’s response to criticism over this, the executives and people with money have likely seen this shit blow up, and if anything, might not be willing to let the show go near something like this again. Which, in my opinion, is the best option. I do not trust this show to do it well, so it might as well not do it at all.
I am going to keep watching, cuz, like Helluva Boss, I want to see how this turns out. I don’t have hope for the show, but I am curious.
Overall, I hope ep 4 will be a good example of what not to do for any media hoping to cover SA in one way or another.
If anyone want to talk with me about the show send me a message and tumblr mobile and social anxiety willing, I'll be able to get back to you.

Digimon Tamers - Episode 29
This episode was all over the place! I kinda wish it would have narrowed its focus because they kept introducing new concepts and then immediately dropping them? The German expressionist world was aesthetic af though, not gonna lie.
Notes:
The whole food conversation was weird and confusing. Guilmon and Terriermon eat some bitter chocolate that doesn't fit in with the background and has nothing to do with the plot (unless of course it becomes relevant later). Then Ryo says this line:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I listened closely to the Japanese to see if it was just a bad translation, but nope, that's what he said. I think maybe what they're trying to convey is that you can eat a small amount and be satisfied? However, the way it came off was "in this world you eat when you're hungry" which is literally how the real world works lol (unless you eat when you're bored I guess).
The haunted castle with the beds was verrrry reminiscent of the Bakemon episode from Adventure. Almost to the point where it felt a little copy-paste. At least the beds were legit this time.
The scene where all the kids (besides Ryo) have insomnia was well done and so was the part where Takato finds his mom's letter. I had insomnia last night, so it kind of hit different haha.
A little late to be noticing, but are Takato's eyes pink or are they brown and just look pink in certain lighting? I kinda hope they're intentionally pink because that would be the bolder choice.
Apparently there's a scarecrow digimon that's literally just a scarecrow (barely sentient). I kinda like the design, but what's the point...?
In addition to the random scarecrow digimon they also introduced a dog-like digimon inspired by western animation (like Looney Tunes). I guess they were thinking of the Roadrunner cartoons because of the desert setting, but that scene felt suuuper random. (I did think it was kinda funny when he calls Culumon "cat" in a heavy Japanese accent though lol). Oh and also, why the heck was there an Otamamon and Gekomon in that scene. How are they not drying up?
The title of the episode mentions the haunted castle, but then they really did nothing with that. There was a Knightmon in the hallway and that's about it. Yet another thing they introduced and then dropped immediately.
I feel like the only reason Takato's mom hid her letter was for dramatic effect. She didn't really need to hide it?
Culumon insert song!! That was unexpected. Culumon continues to be a little idiot. Also at one point they said "kuru (coming) culu" which amused me.
Makuramon has a deeper voice and more serious personality than I would expect from a monkey character. Pretty cold of him to bail on his dragon friend. I guess he's not a strong fighter
I don't really get why they made such a huge deal of the king device card that Ryo used. We've seen digimon grow huge already with matrix evolution, so I wasn't that impressed by it. The only thing I was kinda taken aback by was how violent Cyberdramon's attack was.
Ryo leaving to "satisfy Cyberdramon's instinctive urges" seemed kind of like a weak excuse to split up the gang. I bet he'll return during some decisive battle or something.

Other scattered thoughts on The Zeppo (that sadly don't give me an excuse to use R):
I get that it's part of the point of the episode, and it is a funny joke, but it still kind of annoys me that ... not just that we don't get to see the episode from Buffy's perspective, but that the background plot of this episode doesn't really make any sense in the wider continuity of Season 3. It just feels like it would have worked better in Season 2 or Season 4 to have this sort of unscheduled apocalypse (and indeed, Doomed in Season 4 does much the same thing). This season is meant to have an arc villain with a long-term plan that he's been working on for a century. We heard him say (in Lovers Walk, just a handful of episode ago), that this year was "too important" to let somebody like Spike cause random trouble in town. But he does nothing at all to stop a group of demons trying to literally open the Hellmouth? It kind of makes it hard to maintain suspension of disbelief or think of the Mayor as an actual serious threat. (Yeah, I know that this is just me being annoyed that the show isn't even trying to be the exact sort of show I wish it were. It won't be the last time that that bugs me.)
Weirdly enough, I like Cordelia and Xander's dynamic a lot more this episode than I think I did for the entire time they were an item. They do actually feel like they know each other and even think alike (both going for the Jimmy Olsen reference, for example), and however much she prides herself on being mean Cordelia is notably the only person this episode to actually talk to Xander like something approaching an equal (albeit an equal she doesn't like much). And am I imagining things, or are there hints this episode that Cordelia's family is already having money trouble? Why has she suddenly decided that owning a "shiny car" isn't actually important? Why do we not see or hear about Cordelia's car this episode?
"Two guys rassling ... but not in a gay way!" I mean, between this and Season 1's "he's a very attractive man! how come that never came up?" and Season 2's "I don't trust Oz with her [...] he's a senior, he's attractive" and "No worries, I can handle the Oz Full Monty" from earlier this season and Season 4's "I totally get it now. Can I have sex with Riley too?" and Season 5's "It's understandable. Spike is strong and mysterious and sort of compact but well-muscled" and so many more things the writers have had Xander say it really is something of a crime that the show never actually comitted to the idea that Xander is bisexual. Of course, to do that, the writers would have had to recognize that bi people exist, which is admittedly something of a stumbling block.
"I like the quiet" is one of those lines that (much like Giles's "she's a hero [...] she's not like us" in The Gift) seems to get weirdly misunderstood by large parts of the fandom.
With Jack casually raising his old buddies from the dead with their old personalities and memories intact and Oz accidentally eating a (mostly) human being while a werewolf and it being treated as a punchline rather than murder this episode isn't exactly great for tonal consistency with the rest of the show, huh? (I did warn you the instance above wouldn't be the last time the show's refusal to take itself seriously irritated me.)
Next up (assuming Tumblr's still around when I get to it): Bad Girls.

Chapter 212 analysis
So I have... very mixed feelings about this chapter, I'm so happy that we are actually seeing minthe but I don't really like the backstory that much. I'm going to try lighter and them move onto the heavier stuff later. So one thing that really annoyed me is the inconsistent black background, when I started the chapter I liked the black background as a way to show minthe thinking in plant form is different then reality.. but then you get these weird random white spots that the background fades to. That just don't have any reason to be there. That along with how for some reason the flashback with hades has an all white background for no reason?
Like the only reason I can think of is this panel.. but even then you can have the smoke fade to black.
Tumblr media
Also like, this chapter really hit me with how much the art has changed for the worse. We get to see Persephone in one of her earliest outfits.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The original art basically draw the coat like fluffy pink clouds around Persephone, and while it doesn't look that super real it look fluffy and comfortable plus it gives a really striking and interesting look to it. The one shown in this chapter looks so flat and boring, yeah it looks fluffy but not as soft and warm as the original one does.
Next is the train station, which just confuses me a bit. I do like the idea that you gotta take a train between realms, but given that is just seems open to anyone I'm confused cause its been told that it's illegal to have "modern" objects in the mortal realm. Really it would take an extra panel or line to explain how this works... I'm just asking for the most basic world building to avoid confusion. Like have her explain how there is no guards, or have the outside look like a classic Greek temple.
Tumblr media
Though I have to say the moment with minthe and the human did make me laugh and is a great scene and holy shit I love minthe so much.
Now to talk about the biggest point of the chapter, which is learning about minthes mother. It's a plot point that I've very conflicted on cause on one hand yes abuse is a cycle but also rs is trying to have complex characters but they are so often surrounded by characters that have no complexity to them. Minthe mother is just neglectful.. and that's all there is to here.
Like imagine if rs tried to write Minthes mother similar to how Beatrice is in bojack horseman. Have minthes mother be written to explore how women are often forced into motherhood and thus can not handle the stress of it. Or even write it to be about how women in poverty can struggle to find a support system when they need it.. and thus can't support their children in the way they need.
Tumblr media
Though I gotta say, this following the chapter that is supposed to be showing Demeter as a horrible mother really show how great Demeter is. Demeters "abuse" at the worse is trying to protect her child and being worried about her being abused. from the little we see of Minthe's mother her neglect is far worse and I'm really not looking forward to how they may try and compare the two later in the story.
Now the Hades part of her flash back is.... annoys me because it because it seems more like trying to place the blame mainly on Minthe. It's Minthe fault that she didn't want a romantic relationship nor a relationship that continues to marriage. Plus Hades emotionally cheating on Minthe being boiled down to.. basically nothing annoys me.
It worsens as this chapter reiterates how minthe struggle with horrible self doubt and mental illness.. but literally there is never a suggestion that she need therapy or some sort of support... all that is said is that she need to "be better" and stop being friends with thetis. There is very little about her lacking any support system or struggling with poverty... It just fails through in the trying to make Minthe seem like a complex character when all the responses to how she can grow and change are out souly on her and are so simple.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This really suck cause minthe is such an interesting character, she's literally been in the comic since the first episode but I know she gonna get explored alot less then alot of the characters. Persephone vague self doubt about her beauty really lack anything interest but is explored far more then Minthe's self doubt.
Also about Persephone in this chapter... she is just an rude to minthe. Like Minthe is right, what Persephone did was terrible and instead of listening to Minthe and how she's upset she just ignores that and tries to play it off like minthe problems are less important then Persephones problems.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Minthe is rightfully angry, and Persephone after turning her back from a plant basically just telling her to fuck off and leave her alone. It's a shitty thing to do.. and having it be a moment where it's supposed to be Persephone standing up for herself and not just her being rude sucks. Especially after we just had a huge flashback to make us sympathize with minthe more.
Also want to draw attention to this one line.
Tumblr media
It's presented like some sort of angry thing without much weight.. but it's completely true. Persephone is the heiress to one of the biggest companies and the daughter of a powerful goddess. She smart, beautiful, and grew up with every single need met. Persephone was completely born into privilege, like she got a payed internship and she wasn't qualified for because of her personal connections.
Whenever character try to point that Persephone privilege it's treated like a huge overreaction and not a big deal.. but it is.
Now I don't mind that child, I think it could be dealt with well and there isn't much to say... tho I will admit I'm a bit worried how it may turn out.
Tumblr media
Now my last point is more on the fandom side.. which is something Is that really annoys me. It happens whenever there is more background on Minthe, there is these large groups of fans that go on about how they sympathize with Minthe now.. but the moment she does like the even slightly thing against the main character they immediately change their tone.
There is so many people saying that now they sympathize with minthe.. but where was that sympathy when she was struggling with poverty.. or mental illness.. or literally any other problem. What's with this fandom and thinking mother being bad is the worst thing possible??

WAOF LIVE REACTIONS:
Chapter 3.
🩷🧡💙💜💛
I love how this chapter starts with @pippelulu and I complaining about how bad we are at writing weddings and musing over when they'll happen in the story. I don't think a single wedding happened over the course of 31 chapters.
This was... probably the most confusing opening scene ever written. And I can't remember which one of us is responsible for it. Why do Aiko and Hadzuki think they're doomed? Why does Onpu say "who would want to do that" after Doremi says she's getting married when 1. Onpu is already engaged and 2. It seems later on in the scene no one even heard Doremi anyway? And again WHY did we have to ruin Momoko for ✨comedy✨.
"bluenette" - yeah that was PippElulu and also very 2000s fanfiction coded.
Tumblr media
Now at this point it's well established that this story could not care less about continuity and plot holes and everything that happened was just for the sake of "random xD" but WHY was this mentioned lmfao. The scene opened with everyone sitting around in the living room before the conga madness. So were they all just chilling watching porn together? Did the TV malfunction at that very moment? Also love the idea of Aiko beating the shit out of a conga line while some corny porn music plays in the background lmao
Tumblr media
Spot the kids who knew nothing about currencies and the cost of jewellery lmao. Also wouldn't that be forbidden magic? Inflation bro...
MELON LORD MENTION 🍉🍉WHY DID WE INCLUDE THIS CONSTANTLY?
Tumblr media
lmao sorry bestie but I love how PippElulu called Aiko getting excited over the engagement of one of her best friends being "childish and silly."
Tumblr media
Momoko forgive me... you are so smart and intelligent and wise and not the melon lord. I beg you.
Again with the "random xD" lol why is there a whole scene of the FLATY5 fighting like kids in their own home before Aiko just appears out of nowhere.
Tumblr media
Lmao pippelulu and I were laughing over this the other day. Homie really wrote a whole paragraph of Aiko turning into a pixie and it was just never brought up again. Where is the LORE.
Oh, and Leon transforms too (of course).
Leon took Aiko's chin and leaned in, pressing his lips to hers. They stayed like that for at LEAST 6 seconds.
This sentence reminds me of when my friend and I were flipping through 50 Shades of Grey looking for the worst lines and one was "we stayed like that for minutes. Many minutes."
Tumblr media
I totally stole that first piece of dialogue from a Charmed episode and that's probably why I kept it in.
PippElulu and I would send each other our parts over ffn pms and there is in fact a conversation where we argue over this.
This was posted on PippElulu's account originally so she could have just taken it out instead of adding in her author's note... OR AT THE VERY LEAST CORRECTED MY YOU'RE
"The others are acting hormonal; they're acting like 12 year old boys"
Well, makes sense given it was written by 12 year old girls 😀👍
Tumblr media
I don't have anything to say about this scene, I just need to make sure PippElulu reads it.
But the next line has Hadzuki summoning a bubble wand? Literally what were all the random ass abilities we were giving these girls. We fr went "magical girls? oh so any magic will do then, right?"
"THE MELON LORD COMMAND THAT YOU PEASANTS GIVE HER A PIE! GIVE THE MELON LORD PIE AND SHE WILL FORGIVE THE SELFISH DESIRES OF THE WATER BENDER!"
Momoko I am so sorry...
And Aiko has electrokinesis too????
I genuinely had no idea what "overrated" meant when this was written so I have to laugh every time I use that word to refer to the fic. Like bestie you have no clue what you're yapping about 😭

MY THE OWL HOUSE SEASON 3 CRITIC
Now that the Owl House is over (Oh God what I'm supposed to do with my life now...) I wanted to get out of my chest my personal opinions regarding this last season. No hard feelings or attacks on the writers or animators of this amazing show, they did their best and I'm not here to judge anyone! Thanks to Them: A mixed bag leaning toward the positive for me. The introduction was done spectacularly (A compilation of everyone's adjustments and development to their new normal) allowing us to focus on the present, no more to say there.
---The premise (the puzzle to the localization of the Titan's blood) although interesting at first sight, it starts to feel dull/uninteresting rather quickly (a compilation of silly, funny moments that takes more than 5 minutes) Looking back it just feels like they could have tried including something a little more... organic to the story [maybe instead of a random puzzle, in reality, they find Caleb's journal tainted with a little drop of Titan's blood, althrought damaged it gives them some clues as to where to find the original portal that brought Evelyn to the human realm, and have Vee use the scent of the Titan's blood to helps them search for it said portal] ---Vee was reduced to a glorified background character and they didn't even address anything related to her (cabin friends, her relationship with Camila, Luz, and Hunter) which is understandable considerating how much else they needed to address but a single piece of dialogue or conversation between Vee and Luz would have been appreciated. ---Luz and Camila's relationship was handled perfectly; is clear that some things happen between them during the time skip. Their relationship seems to have improved, and while there is some air of uncertainty ---Hunter's development is clear all the way to Jupiter, he is more at ease around everyone, and not ashamed of his hobbies and passions. He truly became his true self. This is why his possession although a little out of the blue was a great closure to both his character's development and the episode. (Flapjack's death was truly heartbreaking)
For the Future: ---Similarly, a mixed bag but leaning toward the negative. The introduction was everything everyone expected, a literal infant God going rampant across the world with nobody to stop them, a powerful and impactful intro that leaves us in wonder to what is to come next. (love it) ---Hunter bottling his emotions is perfectly fitting for his character; Is a habit he surely develop during his time as the Golden Guard, the best tool he had to keep himself grounded during missions and around Belos. So going back to said habit after losing his best friend at the hands of his abuser obviously push him to search for any way to keep himself together to confront Belos one last time. A greatly executed idea. ---The Collector was everything I expected (an innocent child with the power to break the world in half, completely unaware of the fragility of others, and ignorant to the ramifications of their actions) they simply wanted a friend, someone to call an equally that they could trust. ---Belos slow psychical and mental decay was the highest point of the episode for me. (together with Luz's palisman reveal) Short, direct, and gruesome until the end. The culmination of Belos's sins is the image of his brother, the cataclysm of everything that led him to this path of horrors. ---Now the thing that dragged this episode to the worst of the season for me is all the time they wasted at Hexide. Including Hexide wasn't the problem, actually, I welcome it, a place to rest and formulate a plan alongside all the survivors? perfect stop for what is to come next, but Bosha and Kikimora's involvement provides nothing to the overall plot beyond stalling time. [I was expecting Hunter to see throught Kiki's disguise and immediately take her down (he isn't in the mood to deal with her bullshit now of all times); and for Willow to put some common sense into Bosha (by instantly beating her in a short fight, perfect to showcase Willow's development). Shortly after Luz and the others gather everyone, realizes how well-guarded the way to the skull is and decides to explore the Demon realm in search of both survivors and resources to create a safe way to the skull. Basically, a journey with the purpose of both reuniting everyone Luz and her friends had met and addressing some of the unattended plots/characters that were left behind] ---Oh, and Stringbean is perfection incarnated and I love them so much.
Watching and Dreaming: (I kinda already wrote one for this so I'm taking some parts for this one) ---This one feels like the only one which succeeds in accomplishing everything it was meant to address and develop. The beginning(approximately 5 minutes) was paced decently, they even manage to cramp the Collector’s development surprisingly well in all of that and it works because the guy was never bad, just innocent and unaware of the bad things they had done, the little guy just needed a little push to the right direction. ---Raine's inclusion as a protagonist was definitely not an unwelcome addition. It was thanks to Belos's involvement that they manage to assure a proper and not out-of-the-blue inclusion and relevance to the overall plot without making their presence too oppressive or unnecessary. ---The Hexsquad and Camila really get sideline in this one! Like, they weren’t even relevant through the whole episode! Truth be told, they got more than enough development from the last episodes so I can understand why that was the case. Eda and King deserved and needed a lot of screen time to compensate for their lack of relevance through the third season. Still… It feels like they wasted time every time they brought the focus back to them by just hanging around helping the puppets. [Shortly after they wake up have them leave the palace and search for Luz, be intercepted by Belos's influence, and for them to change their focus on helping the survivors that weren't inside Hexide.] ---the final confrontation was a stunning spectacle, and Belos's death was beyond satisfying (he got stomped to death by one descendant of his brother, the son of the Titan whose name he used to create his regime, and the nonbinary witch who dedicate a good portion of their lives to fight belos's regime) ---Although I'm not the biggest fan of Time Skips (The one in Thanks to Them is understandable) this one shows us that EVERYONE got their well-deserved good ending.
Just because I have my own opinion and vision doesn’t mean I didn’t appreciate this last season. Although the shortening will forever taint my joy for the show, eternally wishing to see the missing potential we never got to see… I love it and nothing will change that.

Ive tagged this post to high heaven so if you somehow get spoilered because of this idk what to tell you. I've played through storymode, good chunk of invasions, and had a crack at the endings towers. Ngl Mortal Kombat 1 is a massive fucking fail and I'm so mad I didn't listen and cancelled my preorder.
After the first half or slightly under of the storymode it took a massive nose dive into complete mess, like not even mess as in the choices we're ill-advised, but mess as in you barely know wtf is going on and neither does the actual plot, they forget half the characters exist (they dropped Bi-Han's traitor plot completely after the Scorpion chapter and forgot about Smoke and Kuai Liang, Kung Lao may as well be a background character, Ashrah and Reptile fucking disappear after entering Earthrealm etc),
They ripped off other games ideas while also forgetting plot points from previous games they're going off of (the blatant Armageddon ending/MK9 opening final act ripoff that would've been better if it wasn't flooded with those stupid mutant champions and random copies no one asked for, forgetting the whole Shinnok's Amulet harms the user who uses it thing with Shao and forgetting the madness it causes, ripping off MK11's final battle with all the realms against the time keeper battle all over again etc.)
Essentially, this game has some good ideas and a very good first half up until Shinnoks Amulet randomly got dropped into the mix. I liked the twist of both MK11 endings being canon, I didn't like the fact that the writers decided to make a fucking avengers endgame ripoff out of the idea only for everything to magically snap back to normal reality after its all over. What the actual fuck.
They have such good ideas but never explain a single fucking thing about it in-game. Does Cris divorce Johnny instead of Sonya and Johnny divorcing then getting back together to spare them that pain in Liu Kangs design? Do Ashrah and Sareena know each other since they both worked under Quan Chi? Wtf is Rain's motivation for betraying his Edenian family? How about what happened to Hanzo Hasashi or Bi Han and Kuai Liang's father? Does Kenshi end up restoring his family's glory? Where do Ashrah and Reptile end up? How about Sareena? What the fuck is going on with Jerrodmac? Is Sonya ever gonna be apart of the damned story considering how important she is/was to Earthrealm getting a better timeline? Where the fuck does Kung Lao fit into the story now he's been sidelined AGAIN despite MK11 implying he'd finally get a shot at being the chosen one? Where is Raiden's personality for 95% of the game until timekeeper old Raiden shows up?
They leave all of this unanswered and instead just. Blow everything up and make it all substanceless epic emptiness. Like literally nothing meaningful happens in the last act on that pyramid. At all. The first section of Johnny's chapter where he's basically Indiana Jones had more substance to it then the whole last half of the game did! Oh yeah btw I love Megan Fox (Transformers Movie Fan) but God her Nitara voice acting blows so hard. MK11 Sonya wasn't bad at all yall give her too much shit and then they get bigger names to do roles in this shit and its just worse. Nitara was another character they did not explain at all. So was Khameleon and Darrius and Sareena. They were just There.
It sucks because there were some really cool concepts like Johnny and the gang in the Wu Shi instead of just the usual monks, the Johnny and Kenshi mini storyline was very good and sweet (honestly I see zero romantic chemistry there idk where yall are getting this from but their friendship here is so fucking good and builds off of their friendship in MKX very well and I'm glad it's still there and flourishing. There's not many well-written and healthy male friendships in media that I've seen and I'm glad this turned out to be a perfect example of one). I loved the way they portrayed Bi Han's descent into ambition driven betrayel and it would've been perfect if we were given more explanation. Especially when he gave Kuai Liang his infamous scar. That was sick as hell.
I know not many people were happy that he was being made a villain again but honestly if they tried making him a good guy I doubt they'd be able to pull off anything better than a bitchier version of Kuai Liang and we've already got one good Sub-Zero, it's more interesting to see the worser side of Bi-Han and if they explore him with Sareena again it could make their relationship more interesting when she joins the side of good eventually without him.
Essentially it comes down to a lot of wasted potential, the interface of the game and the towers and some of the rendering in invasions mode and the end of fight standing over you cutscene in story mode is so bad. I don't even think they properly rendered dark Raiden in one cutscene at all. It feels sloppy and rushed. The gear setup is worse and shittier then MK11, there's no variations. The Palette setup is an improvement from the rehash of a skin in 40 odd colours but there's only one gear option instead of three. The actual outfits in the game are very hit or miss mostly miss with such dull colours and clothing/accessories just not sitting right like Kung Laos hat and the odd choice of colours for Sindel (beige) and others.
As for the Kameo system, it's useless. I literally barely use it and when I do it's exactly like using the Konsumables in MK11 except they've changed the damned enhance button to the trigger to make room for a feature absolutely no one wanted ☠️
It's just disappointing. And I probably have more to say about it but rn I'm on almost 24 hours of not sleeping and have to make it another 4 hours before I'm allowed to crash so I'll leave it here for now.
Oh yeah and the Kombat Kids geting slaughtered. Only giving Cassie her "lesbian cut" on her MK11 model specifically now and massacring Jin's design only to kill them all. Didn't like that. I genuinely almost cried because seeing Cassie I almost got my hopes up for a possible playable future for her and then I saw Jin and I've never been more devastated in my life. He looks like Kabal for fucks sake.
Good evening and I'm never preordering a Mortal Kombat game again

The Flash Fix-It: Season 9
In light of all the major changes happening to the Flash and the CW, here’s my suggestion box wishlist fix-it for the upcoming final season.
A shorter season -- no more than 10 episodes. Give Barry moral dilemmas to solve. We get it. He’s “leveled up” (It’s a travesty how Ciara didn’t make a dime off of the number of times they said this horrible phrase) so give him less physical challenges and more emotional/mental challenges. Gustin is a brilliant actor and drama is where he truly shines; in those moments when he’s getting ping-ponged between his head and his heart. Give him a villain that breaks his spirit. Give him a villain that challenges his values. Zoom, Season 1 Reverse Flash and Bloodwork were great villains because they tried (and nearly succeeded) at breaking Barry’s heart. Hell, Zoom literally broke his back. Bloodwork threw Nora/fatherhood in his face. Reverse Flash killed killed his mom, turned him into the Flash, trained him and then betrayed him. The Flash works best when the villains’ motivations are rooted in values that challenge/undermine Barry’s.
Gut the team. When it was just Barry, Cisco, Caitlin and Wells that made sense. Every other combination since them has been trash (Chester and Sue are awesome though). No more Allegra. No more Cecile. No more scout meetings in the cortex; no more hallway talks after the scout meetings in the cortex. No more randoms going “into the field” with Barry. He’s the Flash. He’s “leveled up”. He got this yo. At this point in Barry’s development, the “team” really should just be Barry, Chester on comms and a medic. Hell, at this point, I’d love to watch an entire season of Barry lone wolfing it. No Star Labs. No equipment. Just the suit and a need for speed.
About that medic...it shouldn’t be Caitlin. I said what I said. Frost was a more interesting character than Caitlin ever was. Honestly, I’d be willing to bet money that Panabaker probably enjoyed playing Frost more. I wish Frost was the one with the medical background so we could ditch Caitlin and keep Frost as the medic. Now that Frost is gone, it’s time for Caitlin to go too. The few times that Barry needs a medic, I’m sure Argus can spare one.
Cecile has got to go. Her and her “oh, my god I’m sensing that you feel embarrassed at the fact that I keep invading your privacy with my powers. Tell me (and everyone in this room) more”. Doesn’t she have a child to rear? A career to foster? Please, go do that especially since it doesn’t seem likely Joe will put a ring on it. Now that Jesse L. Martin’s role has been reduced to recurring, write Cecile off. Please.
I hope the Iris time sickness foolish resolves with Iris getting stuck in a future century permanently. WestAllen fans hear me out. I too love WestAllen. I think Gustin and Patton had amazing chemistry. Read: had. (The way this man used to kiss her I swear --!) Any who, whatever chemistry they had is gone. The show has gone out of its way to deliberately nuke it by constantly separating them for reasons I will not even begin to speculate on. They really turned them from “touch is our love language” to “roommates who occasionally see each other when schedules line up”. The spark they had in earlier seasons is gone. It’s a damn shame too because they’ve utterly wasted Patton. She’s a good actress and she was given nothing to work with for years. In the pilot, she mentions working on a dissertation. Where did it go??? Where? Then they absolutely bungled her C3 plot by shoehorning Allegra and her cub reporter side plots. It’s infuriating. At this point, just make it that Iris is stuck in a future century and Barry has to use the speedforce to visit her. This way, she’s not dead, but she’s not present, which if we’re being honest isn’t all that different to what they’ve been doing with her for the past 8 seasons. And they can still have their future kids, etc. (Be free Candice Patton, be free and prosper!)

i want to hear your stranger things thoughts 👀
here's a random list of thoughts under the cut if anyone wants to avoid spoilers:
the episodes didn't need to be that long and the duffer brothers could have seriously benefitted from netflix reigning them in budget-wise and having an editor who was willing to cut the fat to make the story tighter and more compelling.
max and lucas were AMAZING. i really enjoyed their dynamic in s2 and was a little disappointed by how under-utilized they were in s3, so i was so thrilled to see their relationship play such a central role in this season and my heart broke with both of them several times.
everything in russia was so tedious and i hope i never have to spend a season with joyce, hopper, and murray fucking bauman isolated in their own plot ever again. two seasons in a row was more than enough.
robin and steve are the BEST platonic duo and i love everything about their friendship. of all the characters on the show, i've loved steve since s1 and i am just constantly surprised by how well the show was able to develop him and let him grow and introducing robin as his best friend in s3 was a real game changer.
the show's refusal to kill a major character is definitely holding it back and makes a lot of their patterns very obvious and super tiring. i also felt like eddie's death was some what underwhelming bc the editing of that part of the episode was a little clumsy and made me feel like he'd been forgotten (there were a couple moments like that—mike's extended monologue to el while max was literally being vecna'd in the background was...A Choice)
speaking of eddie, he was a GREAT addition to the season and while it was pretty clear he was doomed partway through e8, i wish he'd been able to stick around longer. he fit in well with the group and added a breath of fresh air to the dynamic of the older teens.
i'm not really on board with the retreading of the steve/nancy relationship? i know some people are, and i can understand why it makes sense, but personally i wasn't a fan of them when they were together in the first place (to be fair, also not a super big fan of jonathan and nancy!) so teeing things up for them to reunite just doesn't do it for me.
speaking of jonathan, i did very much appreciate his big brother speech to will and his promise that nothing would ever change how much he loves him. it was a sweet moment and well deserved, a nice reminder of their bond over the seasons, and i liked it a lot.
this is basically just a subset of the first point but: the final 20 minutes of the season were a mess and the "two days later" time skip felt like lazy writing. ALSO the fact that nobody but dustin even acknowledges that eddie dies was?? fucking bizarre, frankly and somehow for a season that made every single scene drag on forever, this whole bit felt like it was cut ridiculously short.

do you mind giving the "Directors cut" of the Jevin chapter, I just love the chapter and find it really interesting? (also love. how unique it felt)
I hope you like long posts, lol.
Jevin's chapter! To anyone who has no idea what this human bean is talking about here's the link:
To anyone who wants to read my thoughts on this chapter, see below.
Jevin's chapter was probably one of the easiest and hardest chapters for me to write. This sounds weird but let me explain:
It was easy in the sense that he had a pretty basic premise to type up. He's a science experience that gained sentience and becomes a player. There are a few other plot points I knew I wanted to put in, but nothing too crazy.
It was hard in the sense that I had to start setting up the Hybrid Hunter Arc. And, at the time, I wasn't exactly sure how Jevin got caught up in the Hunters.
I had a few ideas that ranged in various details. One idea was that Jevin's lab was actually attacked by Hunters and he was captured, only for his science-mom to free him at the cost of her own life (like perma-die). Another idea I had was that it was just a singular scientist that made Jevin, then had him help with experiments until there was a lab accident that killed the scientist. Jevin would then set the other mob experiments free and he would leave to make his own path, eventually running into Hunters. There were a few others that varied in levels of angst and comfort, but these were the main two I kept flipping back and forth between.
I eventually settled on something similar to that last one, except I decided I didn't want to kill the scientist. Actually, I took some inspiration from the Test Tupe Zedaph AU (that is no longer in production) that's here on Tumblr for Jevin.
I actually had someone comment on the chapter and they seemed to be under the impression that this was a Protech lab. I actually don't think it was, seeing as Jevin is like... over 150 years old and Protech was around for about 50 or so years.
Oh, yeah. I've been figuring out some Hermit's ages for Built Family which has been fun seeing as some of them are basically immortal (Joe and TFC) while others just age REALLY slowly (Xisuma and now Hypno and Jevin).
[Complete side note but for TFC's age I literally just have as ??? because he's the oldest and it really doesn't matter how old he is, lol]
I really enjoyed writing up the science report as Jevin's introduction. It was different from the other chapters and I've been trying to find some clever ways to open up for different people, usually related to their backgrounds. I kind of wish for Mumbo I had done something similar or for False to have some kind of briefing as her opening, but I'm happy with what it is for both of them (very excited for Etho's start).
In my author's note for Jevin's chapter, I have a comment about blaming God of War: Ragnarok on the fact that I killed the dog. I was being serious about that. I literally went and watched someone play the first part of GoW:R and saw the scene with Fenrir and just... decided Jevin needed a dog. And that I was going to kill the dog and have a similar scene of holding him until he died.
One of the things I really wanted to emphasize with Jevin was the fact that he was a sentient slime. Not a slime-hybrid (which does exist). The best way I found to do this was having him measure time via phases of the moon and just have the moon affect him in general. I am very proud of that little fact, even if it so subtle that it only matters to me, lol. It was also the reason I made a big deal out of Jevin learning to talk.
Another random side note: I debated about having Jevin sometimes struggle with speaking or be mute at points. Similar to how some people write Link, where he has periods of signing things and periods of talking. I ended up deciding against it because 1. I already write stuff for LoZ and I didn't want to get too repetitive in my personal projects and 2. I couldn't figure out a way to have a standard signing method among players because... you know. Many worlds and many kinds of people. So even if Jevin signed, the only person who would know it would have been science-mom.
Jevin's chapter was also when I ended up introducing Scott, which was quite fun to sort out. I absolutely love Scott and fitting him into this universe was not as difficult as I thought it was going to be. I love his bi-colored eyes in Empires season 2 and decided to use the Origins SMP as the basis for his origin.
Setting up the Hunter issues was not an original plot idea when I first started this little story. As such, Hypno as a part of the anti-hunter movement was something I had to add in through Jevin's POV, which I found quite fun. Hypno, I think, has the most secrets when it comes to all of the Hermits (the exception being probably Doc). And honestly, my favorite thing is realizing that some Hermits have things that didn't come up in their chapter.
I wasn't exactly sure how I wanted to do Jevin and Cleo's relationship. Frenemies is the best way to describe it, but I wasn't exactly sure how to write it. I ended up deciding on a similar method of writing a sibling relationship, only making them a bit more... contempt of each other, if you will.
I can't think of anything else to really elaborate on, but if you have any specific questions I didn't cover, feel free to leave a comment in the note section and I'll answer it there.

okay milesverse lore post but for the siblings uh yay
red green and silver
okay they're kinda weird. red and silver are half brothers (same dad) and green is red from an au that got eebied into the main timeline as a little kid (fun fact her name in the timeline she came from was leaf but she renamed herself green because 1) she forgor and 2) she wanted to match red and blue). green was adopted by red's mom after she fell anyway so uh yeah.
green learns that she's a faller a little bit after rgby after red went missing but doesn't learn she is literally red from a different timeline until rainbow rocket. yes she is the red of rr giovanni's timeline.
silver learned that red took down team rocket and immediately went "woag this guy is so strong and took down my shitty dad so i need him to mentor me so i can also get strong." but then red disappeared and silver immediately assumed that team rocket kidnapped him or something. red is actually peeping the horrors on mount silver instead but no one knows that
so during gsc he impersonates red (keep in mind they don't know they're related at this point) and steals totodile. he goes around beating the shit out of random team rocket members and getting annoyed by ethan, lyra, and kris (mostly ethan) who keep accidentally running into him. ethan immediately learns that silver isn't red because 1) silver dropped his trainer id and 2) ethan is huge gigantic red super fan who's dream is to become so strong that he surpasses him in strength so of course he recognizes silver looks nothing like red
post gsc ethan, silver, and blue (who has been helping against team rocket under the alias "gary" and wearing his pokespe cape during gsc along with lance i guess he was there too) go to kanto to look for red together. they also go through the celebi event and silver beats up his dad but that's besides the point.
when they're pallet town they meet green. silver and green become besties. do they know reaction image. also blue and green hate eachother because of the whole red missing thing but that's off topic.
anyway they eventually find red. awkward family reunion. yippee. im talking way too much about them moving on
hilda and nate
ceos of ignoring the plot. hilda and nate used to live near hilbert cheren and bianca but moved away to nimbasa before the events of b1w1. hilda is a pretty minor character in b1w1 honestly she's just grinding the battle subway.
her little brother nate though actually travels with rosa and hugh. admittedly it's just so he can train up a team so he can also grind on the battle subway but he's having fun. while rosa and hugh have team plasma related angst he's just kinda chilling the background eating popcorn with his oshawott. he's just a silly guy. he looks up to his big sister a lot
selene and elio
both of them act as the protagonists in sm and are twins. selene does most of the story stuff while elio focuses on the island challenge. basically selene gets to be gay with girlfriend lillie while elio fights for his life against the beasts. elio is the serious one while selene is the silly one.
there's a gag where selene's pikachu (off topic but every protag except lucas and elio has a pikachu on their team) keeps stealing elio's hat which always annoys him. elio eventually gets a mimikyu which pops out to fight pikachu whenever that happens
gloria and victor
they fucking hate eachother. victor (the older one) thinks gloria is annoying and egotistical while gloria thinks victor is a loser and failure. victor went on the gym challenge before gloria and gave up before kabu. gloria started to resent him for giving up and started to call leon her real older brother because of how much of a loser she thinks victor is.
victor just wants to go to culinary school but once gloria gets her sobble and gets ready to go on her journey their mom forces victor to go with them. he basically becomes the brock of the group but if brock was the biggest hater ever.

Another thing to dislike about Booktok. You mentioned how shit they are at actually describing what's inside with the steaminess. They also suck ass at warning you about content. It's like they want to warn you, but are too uncomfortable to mention what the triggers, squicks, or just unpleasant parts of the story might contain. Not everyone, but I've noticed a few do this, which is obnoxious. Booktok also feels like it has little in terms of diversity. Not in terms of like #Diversity, but as in book diversity, it feels like hundreds of people recommend the exact same books, and have the exact same talking points just a bit reworded. And still pretend like it was a "rare find" or some unknown book. Another issue is that they literally go seemingly only by diversity, without actually mentioning if the book is well written. It's as if adding in a bunch of different groups offsets any poor writing. "This story has LGBT themes, black, Latino, Asian characters... the writing is kindergarten level, and the author can't write any word above 5 letters correctly, their prose is all over the place, they randomly switch between past and present tense, and they constantly forget their own characters names... anyway, 8.5/10, a masterpiece." They conflate liking a book, with the book being a literary masterpiece. Their entire reasoning is also just "I like this, so it's a masterpiece." but can't even back it with anything but that "I like it" argument. They explain things as if they were a fanfic, instead of an Original work. You know the difference I assume: Fanfic you basically go into the tags as plot points, because people should already know the original stories base. Meanwhile with Original works you also need to lay the foundation for the story, to understand the themes, you can't just throw random fanfic lingo and leave it at that. They often sound like people who don't like to read, trying to tell you what to read. I don't even doubt many have read what they've talked about, but they literally sound like they don't actually read for the enjoyment of it, more like it's a chore for class. Especially when they can't even remember the main plot of the story they're trying to recommend. Criticism. They seem to have no idea how to actually critique a story. Even though that is probably one of the most basic skills you learn in schools, while doing text-analysis. It also feels like some of them are too afraid to do criticism, and instead just praise everything out of their arse. The already mentioned: They have no idea how to do summaries of the plot of the story. Like other anon mentioned: "You think it'll be a romcom, but ends up being a psychological thriller stalker." Although I don't think Booktok would ever be able to do it that way round, it's more like they'd try to claim/making it sound like the Psychological-thriller-stalker is actually a romcom stalker, because they hyper focus on certain tropes. Obviously the steaminess levels you mentioned. SpicyBookTok makes it sound like like the book is nothing but smut start to end, but then there's maybe one vanilla sex scene, and some graphic hand-holding. There's more, but this is my first load of issues.
BookTok: Wants to be a space of promoting books outside of the conventional publishing space that focus on diverse topics and backgrounds.
Also BookTok: Exists on a platform were people have to censor every other word like they're in a hellish combination of Homestuck Act 3 and that one Orbit gum commercial
I'd also like to bring attention to the 'They conflate liking a book, with the book being a literary masterpiece' point you made. It reminds me of how a lot of people, particularly young people, treat liking things as a core element of their personality and, therefore, think that they have to defend and praise that thing to a cultish degree otherwise they feel like they aren't 'respecting' the thing enough.
And when I say 'defend' I'm not talking about 'oh, someone is misrepresenting the thing to try and tear it and its fans down; let me step in'. I'm talking about those people who treat the thing like the second coming of Christ and start trying to badger everyone into engaging with it, belittling those who aren't, and harassing those who do end up engaging but end up having some viable criticisms.
Again, I bring up Swell Entertainment's The Cult of BookTok video and how she brings up that while individuals like that Chad guy who brought it upon himself to start belittling and badmouthing grown women for reading smut brought his dogpiling on himself, the cases where a guy will simply make a joke about a popular book and end up with a bunch of people harassing them? Yeah, that's a bit off.

Listen, I know absolutely nothing about FFXII, I’m just here because I like to write with you. But if you think a sky pirate verse fits the Guardians, maybe I can try to work on a verse, since you say it would be so much fun. I can take them out of the MCU, even though… I’m not sure how I would explain their backstories?? But yeah a crossover verse where they end up in the FFXII world could be possible. Maybe they can still be from the MCU but accidentally end up in another universe… Eh, if you’d like to explore it, I can try! Just be warned that I might mess some things up since I’m not familiar with the game 😅
__________
{out of dalmasca} Oh, you don’t have to make a FFXII verse if you don’t want to, it was just a brain fart of mine! I mean, not that I wouldn’t 100% be up for it if you did want to, but don’t feel you have to. You’re right, it might be kindof hard to do if you’re not familiar with the game, but… MCU characters have ended up in Ivalice through multiversal shenanigans before on this blog, so… I’m sure it’d be easy to just transplant them for a while and see what happens?
Lol, with the racial diversity in Rabanastre, they could go through some weird wormhole or somehow get magically yeeted there, think it’s just some random strange planet, dock to refuel, and people wouldn’t even bat an eye. They’d just be like wow you’re not from around here, but otherwise they wouldn’t care a bit. Of course, the Guardians’ ship is probably using technology they’ve never seen before, so that’ll raise an eyebrow or two, but otherwise they’d just be like any other travelers stopping there for food, supplies, business, or anything else.
Or they could show up at any other point in the plot, in any place, really. The beauty of multiversal happenings is that they can literally end up anywhere, heh. Depending on whether you want lots of conflict or just a slice of life sandbox experience, I could help you pick a time and place. But yeah, it might be easier for you if you can keep all their backgrounds, but I’m sure as soon as they realize they’re in another time/world, they’d just want to go back to their own time, heh.
Well, if you ever did want to try something like this, I can always answer any questions you may have about the game if you need help in setting things up or deciding what to you with the Guardians. Pick my brain, I don’t mind. =) I just feel like in certain parts of Ivalice they’d fit right in, and Mantis would probably find everything so interesting… assuming she wasn’t too worried about getting back to her own time. Or they could be yeeted into some really tense point of conflict and help the canon characters in some way. Or maybe they showed up somewhere less hospitable and got themselves captured, either in Nalbina or in Archadia maybe, and they escape with the canon characters. The possibilities are endless, but again, don’t feel like you have to. Not all AUs quite work out in practice, even if they sound really fun. XD
Also… MANTIS WHAT EVEN IS THAT FACE, HAHA! It made me think of this gif. Mantis trying to be mean has the probably unintended effect of making me smile. When soft beans attempt to be mean, haha. Cinnamon roll who can actually kill you, but doesn’t know how to look like it. XD

Have you ever consumed any content which made you question ‘how did this content come into existence? Who is proud of this…end result?’, that is what I kept asking over and over again in every opportunity playing Gotham Knights. Who produced this game and thought ‘yeah, that is a great game to play for people to enjoy!’? You know, I can salvage some parts and try to make it work a game when I am not fully sold, ‘okay, this game does not make me adore it in every way, but I like some features it offers’, however, Gotham Knights is a game…I mean it is an experience in itself which is abhorring. This game makes me ashamed of mentioning that I played it for five hours. Five hours that I won’t get back, never. Why do I almost hate it? Why do I keep wishing that I wish this game didn’t exist and I hadn’t ever played it? Okay, let me walk you through it, and this is a punishment, literally. You won’t get back your five minutes after reading this review, just like my playtime.
The setting is straightforward here, Batman is dead, and we are in Gotham to solve the murder. We play as one of the four superheroes, who are Robin, Batgirl, Red Hood and Nightwing. They looked similar to me I just went for Batgirl for no particular reason. I regret picking Batgirl actually because the voice artist does not match the personality and aura of Batgirl at all.
Tumblr media
As I said, I only played this game for 5 fours, and I hoped that the game offered me the option to switch to another superhero, but that didn’t happen. What you choose at the beginning is what you get throughout the game, no backsies, sorry not sorry (somehow I managed to be more cringy than the game itself), it is okay if the game does not let me try out other superheroes, but what about some action as a team? No, throughout the game you will play alone, the other three heroes don’t join you in your adventures, at all. I mean, this is awkward a bit, here we are, the four superheroes who wish revenge upon the murderer of Batman, the plot and setting is right there, yet the player goes out there and complete missions, try to set justice in Gotham City alone, why don’t the other three fellow superheroes accompany us? The game’s poster shows all four heroes shoulder to shoulder, as a team, it turns out that you are on your own, the only time you interact with them is when you return to the base, The Belfry, when you are out there fighting the criminals, gangs and whatnot, you forget they even exist. Even when you return to the base, the dialogue and interaction feel so weak, nothing tangible or solid. I imagined and expected that all four of us would be in Gotham and do our part to take down evils in the city and we would interact time to time, this way it would feel like we are one of the superheroes fighting the good fight. I wish the game was more interactive, for example when we travel to main mission location, the other heroes would join us and carry out the mission together, and they would come and talk about what they handled until that time that day, something along these lines. As a player, I want to feel a part of this world and be one of heroes, you are not though. Your choice of character is so random that, it doesn’t even matter. You would do exactly the same if you picked the next hero. It comes to this: I picked Batgirl, okay, what difference does it make? Let me put it this way kindly: none.

I’d like to talk about the user interface and menus now, because your experience with this game will be completely about what it offers, how it offers and what it lacks.
First, the first thing welcomes you is Map. It is so badly-designed that it hurts to look at, the background is already dark and almost black, and the map is designed as transparent, therefore it is pretty hard to see what is there. Points of interest and mission icons will pop up there, but further than that, it is unusable, even when you see those icons it is not easy to read where it is located, the map is challenging to understand and make use of if that, I only clicked to track a location and just closed it. I cannot distinguish anything on it, and it doesn’t help you at all about your surroundings. This’s such a low-effort map design that it is pathetic. One of the maps that I clearly remember are Assassins Creed Odyssey and Red Dead Redemption 2. Those maps are so cool in their own design and context that, they are beautiful to look at. Gotham Knights made me realize you can design a map so unintuitive that it makes you loathe it.
Here is the map:

User Interface overall is just…it does not work. I am not a huge fan of these superheroes or Gotham City, even a person such as me can point out that this menu and UI is so uninspired that you forget this game set in Gotham City. Why are these huge rectangular blocks and gigantic font type here? This UI would have been a placeholder or a draft version of a final product, this is joke to all players and fans of DC. How can you develop a game based on Batman set in Gotham City and make it so ugly? The font type looks like the bold version of default Word font. UI is troubled by the game’s core focus on cheesy challenges and unmotivating crafting too. In Case Files, you can see main missions but they tell you so little about what you need to do, they don’t feel like ‘main’ missions, even when they are the task of an on-going mission, they don’t have any direct connection to the prior task essentially. The way main missions play out is like this, you meet so-called significant character, you fight some NPCs, you interact with them in a beginner-level English, you are given a task to go somewhere, pick up something or defeat some more enemies, and you return to the base, you lightly talk about what has happened or outcome of the mission with other heroes, you start again. I don’t grasp the of these side mission-like tasks in Challenges menu, they seem like activities you would spontaneously do during missions, but the game specifically puts forward these tasks in an unattractive way that it is not intuitive to players. A mission has to be a journey for the player, you cannot just say ‘go there’, and expect the player to do it in an enjoyable way. These are menial chores that reward players with some XP and crafting material. Gear menu is where the game shows its true colours, as I have mentioned previously, the UI is so basic and bland that it is forgettable totally, and a game with this budget with DC and Warner Bros branding deserves a much better refined and cared-for user interface than what’s offered here. This game taught to me appreciate and don’t take great user interfaces for granted again. A game with millions of dollars budget cannot justify this abomination called menu design.
Here is the UI in total glory…
youtube
Here is the best part of all, I really tried my best to understand the logic behind crafting and material, and obviously the gameplay and progression are centered around them. Challenges include crafting new skins for your character and all the missions reward you with these craft material. Why is this game so focused around crafting, what is the intention behind it? If I had seen a screenshot of crafting and gear menus and not known what game it is from, I would have said this is a cheap gotcha game with half a dozen in-game currencies, and I would stay away from it. If these material-like currencies had any actual connection to Gotham City, I’d have been okay with it. These material don’t have any weight, they are so arbitrary, they just drop from enemies or we earn them through missions. Icon designs for these material are absolutely terribly bad. They don’t fit into the style of the game, of Gotham City. You can craft melee and ranged weapons and full skins for your character with these material.
When I realized that I can craft items right from the menu, I was like ‘then why is there a workbench to craft items in the base?’ The option to craft items without the need of workbench eliminate the necessity of it to begin with…weird.
youtube
The user interface is so in-your-face that, the game will show you tutorial tips & tricks that will cover almost third of the screen during fights. Is this really the time for tutorial pop-ups?
youtube
As I previously discussed, I love codex entries and collectibles when a game makes use of them in a clever and engaging way, such as The Outer Worlds. There is E-mail menu, and I am confused as to what it is for, characters randomly send you e-mails sometimes about recent missions, sometimes about insignificant things that make me ‘huh? what?’. It is such a cluttered menu that it is so hollow.
Gotham Knights will be my last game to review in 2023, and I wish I did not close out this year like this, with a game that I won’t recommend to anybody under any circumstances. Gotham Knights is an utter failure that will surprise you in how many ways it can disappoint you all the time.

AINUN'S FILM REVIEW
THE MARVELS
Ratings: 6/10
Rating an MCU film, especially one with some of my favorite characters, a 6 felt personally painful to me. I didn’t have grand expectations coming into the theaters, knowing how poorly Marvel had executed their 4th phase, but 30 minutes in I knew I had to make my peace with the fact that “The Marvels” was simply badly written and poorly executed. An opinion that remains standing until the very end of the story. Iman Vellani aka Ms Marvel was the only good thing about the whole film, she delivered her character with her own unique pizzazz. Ms Marvel was a joy to watch and I truly hope to see her more in future MCU projects.
Disclaimer: Minor spoiler alert and a sort of brutally honest rant from a Captain Marvel fan.
My first “umm?” moments came really early in the film, just when they were building up the story background. Our heroes were forcefully intertwined with each other, resulting in them having to overcome their differences and work out their powers in synergy. Watching this from an MCU-fan point of view, someone who has watched nearly all of MCU films/shows, I really did not get the tension they were trying to establish. I was still trying to grasp what was going on when the fight scenes and body swaps started.
I understand that they were trying to make it vague and mysterious for a “grand reveal” right before the climax, but it didn’t exactly do what it was supposed to. All it felt was: chaotic, incoherent, rushed in some parts yet too dragged down in others. I felt bamboozled by the constant light blasts and awkward attempts at comedy relief, not able to savor and enjoy any part of it. The music and soundtracks even felt weird, out-of-place and forced. It adds nothing to the story or the characters.
There’s honestly not much to say about “The Marvels”. Random droppings of fan-favorite characters and a tease of a couple highly anticipated future projects were supposed to be a nice bonus on the side, not the sole highlight of the story (at least for me). Cameos and easter eggs used to be nice little bonuses fans got, but this time it's the only good thing we got.
I wished they raveled more about Carol and Monica’s relationship, instead of having them say a few emotionless lines, non-consensual memory evasion and then hug it out in a Disney fashion. This devoids all emotion and empathy from the audience, shrugging off the issue as meaningless, and the characters as hollow. The same case with Carol's relationship with Prince Yan, I imagine, was written as an attempt to add dimension to her character, to provide a human sense to her all-mighty powers. It felt more like a filler plot that adds nothing of value to the story. This, combined with the messy pacing, made the film even worse.
I wish Carol showed more compassion for the people around her, actually thinking about what she’s doing and the impacts of her actions. A bare minimum quality ANY heroes should inhibit. Her initial reaction upon meeting Kamala for the first time felt out of character. I understand heroes have to make hard decisions during a crisis, but snapping at a literal child who simply wants to save people gave me the ick. It felt wrong in so many ways. And this is coming from a (self-proclaimed) hard-core Captain Marvel defender. These micro-interactions of her with Kamala felt like a complete butchery of her character for me. SOUNDS EXTREME I KNOW, but I’m actually pissed. This is not the Captain Marvel they introduced to us in 2019. This is not the badass superhero I fell in love with and rooted for.
Iman Vellani's love and respect for her character and the original source materials (the comics) truly shows. Even with a bad script, a story struggling to build a clear foundation and failing to deliver a coherent climax, she managed to be the only main character who made the movie watchable.
To sum up, did "The Marvels" deliver an enjoyable experience? To some extent, yes. Would I recommend this film to people who haven't seen it yet? No, even if you're curious, just wait until it's Disney+ release, it's not worth your money. If you're intrigued by the main characters, I implore you to watch "Ms Marvel" instead. It's unlike any other superhero series Marvel has ever done, so do not expect it to be in the same format as the superhero stories you grew up with, but it is really good. It explores Kamala Khan's origin story, her struggle with being a Muslim, brown, 1st generation immigrant teenager with reasonably high expectations from her parents and her new-found superpowers.  She's not depicted as the perfect, mighty hero we're accustomed to, and her flaws were actual flaws and not some weird exaggerations I’ve seen in others (for example: Loki/Sylvie Season 1) which makes her all the more interesting. Despite her weaknesses and teenage clumsiness, she always tried her best to help. Which, in the grand scale of things, is the core essence of being a hero. It felt personal and relatable. Like I’m living through her adventures.
PS: there's one after-credit clip you'd regret to miss, so stay put in your seat.
