“Bringing Eddie back would be cheap.” No, what was cheap was bringing him in and making him likable just to kill him so they wouldn't have to kill off a main character because they're too scared to do that because God forbid they take risks with their writing.

What was cheap was giving Eddie a similar relationship with Dustin that he has with Steve so they could get the effect of killing off Steve without actually killing off Steve.

What was cheap was his death scene and the moments that led up to it. He sacrificed himself for nothing. He died for nothing. 

What was cheap was how right after he died they tossed a two-day time jump in there and made it seem like Dustin and Wayne were the only ones who ever cared about him.

So, no, bringing Eddie back isn't cheap. What's cheap is their incredibly predictable writing.

its interesting to see the life series in particular be seen as a series of separate canons that diverge in some places and dont in others, and i think you lose a lot of interest when you try to puzzle piece everyone's stories into the same Canon Tapestry. i think its fine for people to try to filter everybody's POV's through the storyline of one player, but it starts to suck when people act like thats the only "correct" interpretation

​yeahhh exactly. like fandom can create the fanon they want. but ppl cant act like there is a true canon ya know? i think many outside of the typical old expected mcyt fandom forget that this is not like... linear canon. you cannot just sit here and expect ppl to understand what you assume is the Canon. thats not how it works.

there is a lack of meta understanding. this is literally ppl playing a game with a lack of the roleplay they project onto it. and when fandom brings out a version of the series canon that is just a collection of what they have seen, they take it as the overall canon that does not at all consider how other creators interacted with that series.

it is like. the way a Tv show works for example is.... someone write and produces the thing, its published, and people see it. and the thing that person wrote is canon, its what they made, its The Canon undoubtedly. but in this case.... fans are decided The Canon. there isnt any. they dont "own" the source however, so for every person viewing, the canon is...something unique. but as always, like any other media, people need to enforce canon to make sure people are getting it right. but! thats not how that works. all the canon is admittedly, fanon. unless they stay within one content creator's bubble (in this case, Martyn's).

there is a disconnection between the perceived canon and the meta world outside of it, which is that there is never any canon that can be applied to anyone else than the person they are specifically creating canon off of.

The Hollow Knight Wiki has a New Home

We would like to announce that the Hollow Knight Wiki has been moved from hollowknight.fandom.com to hollowknight.wiki.

We and a lot of our readers have been frustrated over the year with Fandom's aggressive ad campaigns, the lack of freedom in customization, and having a little say in their increasingly restrictive implementations. Because of this (and more), we decided it was time to move from Fandom.

All content from the Fandom wiki has been copied to the new site and we will abandon the former wiki. The new wiki offers WAY fewer ads, faster load times, improved design, and more independence in what we can show in our articles. The new wiki will also be the only one updated with Silksong information once the game is released.

Since the Fandom wiki can't be closed, we recommend not visiting or editing it any longer. Update your bookmarks and delete your browser history with links to the Fandom wiki. MMMMMMMMM GOOD THINGS ARE BEING SAID.

Martin consistently stutters, consistently allows himself to build up to a point where his frustrations have nowhere to go other than an abrupt spurt of anger that can almost seem out of character to him in the beginning but are, in fact, intrinsically linked to who he is as a person. He sidesteps his own comfort in favour of others' and expresses his feelings in providing for those he cares about. Simple gestures, like a cup of tea. And later (avoiding spoilers) Bigger Gestures.

Martin has convinced himself he does not matter and attempts to make himself small as a result. Be kind, be gentle and offer comfort to those around him in an attempt to convince them to let him stay. Historically he's been an emotional punching bag for others. His mother, then Jon- you can assume later Lukas too (though in a very different manner).

It's not until much later he starts expressing himself in more honest ways (i.e. post Lonely). He admits his faults and asks for things. Allows his anger and frustration to bubble up organically. Isn't as afraid to express these things as now he's confidant he won't be left in the dirt as a result of taking up space. "I am Martin Blackwood and I am not lonely anymore."

English tea is the most inoffensive thing to offer someone as a source of comfort. The smallest and most effective way to provide in a workspace that he has very little idea to what he's doing in thanks to fudging the records to get in in the first place. The mugs may as well have "Please keep me, I'm helping, see?" written on them. So yes. Yes and Thank you.

first of all ao3 is an archive site. this is like going to the library and saying "oh i dont like this" on every piece of media you find that you dislike and thinking they should be stamped with some sort of a marker just cause you didnt like it

you can always click back and leave. fic writers owe you nothing to explain themselves and their creations. if they have mistagged or miscategorized fics, then i understand, however there are report tools for that instead of yelling at the artist tbh

im not saying free works arent necessarily above criticism. but this is just. fucking wild. its common courtesy to just enjoy stuff (or fucking leave if you dont, the back button is free) and if the artist specifically asks for critiques, then give one - constructive that is, shitting all over someones work is not proper criticism, mind you

i just find it fucking wild people are treating art and archive sites as social media these days like this and everything needs to be policed and ~catered to the algorithm~ like. no. ao3 doesnt have an algorithm. you should be able to fucking tell what you like and what you dont like and steer away from that kind of content and let people fucking be with their art. they dont owe you anything (except trigger warnings i'd argue, but i know some people disagree with that as well for some reason), and imagine how much more energy you'd have if you only engaged with things you liked and spent time looking at instead of going to places where you dont enjoy yourself. let alone spending time telling other people you dont enjoy what they enjoy. what a fucking life

But nobody talking about how Cecil was also the catalyst for anti-Skinny White Guy in a Suit!

By the time WTNV and Cecil rolled around in 2014 people were sick of skinny white guys in suits!!! They wanted something different! and it sparked a lot of talk around the default white depictions of characters who didn't have canon designs.

There's this image by zenamiarts that depicts a lot of the popular human Cecil designs that started popping up as a result. You started seeing Cecil with long braided hair!! Cecil with a walking stick and chronic pain! There was Cecil who was a just giant floating eyeball. Cecil who could change his entire appearance at a whim. A very popular ask blog where Cecil was a Silkie Chicken. (Newer more modern designs also showcase the eccentric fashion Cecil is now known to wear.)

i mean Fuck. Cecil Palmer was the first male character I saw drawn in a skirt!! he was the first character I saw drawn as gender nonconforming and he got treated and drawn like it was a normal thing and i will never forget that.

was it the perfect depiction of diversity? nah. & it sadly seems like a lot of the surviving artwork of Cecil from 2013-2016 is 'Skinny White Guy in a Suit'. (the 2018 tumblr exodus might have something to do with that :( )

But!!! Cecil really did open the door for future audio drama character designs. (looking at u mr. jonathan the magnus archives)
