it's so weird being a fan of mcu thor & loki (well not the recent installments, but still) but still valuing respect of other cultures/religions. Like the norse gods have been around for thousands of years, and not simply as "mythology", but are still being worshipped/recognized as real today (asatro, mainly, but also some modern witches who aren't strictly asatro).
Like. Not only is marvel/disney's version (both movies and various comics) absolutely butchering norse mythology, but even if it was mythology-accurate, it still would have been portrayed as simply fiction. As just something made up and not real. Which seems... wrong? Because there are still people worship them/see them as real? It seems like invalidating someone's religion? But i suppose my thinking that might just be the result of the west's overall christian mindset, where the christian god is view as perfect, omnipotent, and due to that any even hinting at him not being real is seen as blasphemous, immoral, and appalling. But since not all religions' deities are viewed as such by their members, maybe it's not as big of a deal? but still.
But it's like. I really like mcu loki and thor. but at the same time i'm just going uhhhhh asdjkf this is so wildly off and nothing like they should be. but at this point they are completely different people and i wouldn't want them to be anyone else. so i'm just like akswlejsjks

The hammer of Thórr is not a symbol of violence, but an amulet which we, as norse pagans, can turn to for protection and comfort. It is a symbol of our faith, but it is not a symbol of hate. It never was and it never will be. Thórr as deity and as mythological figure has never represented any sort of “model” for masculinity. And no, his myths have never made him into a misogynist or a racist figure. Search all you want, his myth has never condoned discrimination. Therefore, it is not to be used as a means of glorifying one’s discriminatory political standpoints. The hammer we wear around our necks is a symbol of faith and protection, and nothing more. Let us tolerate no hate within heathen circles.

I am literally begging Marvel/MCU stans to tag your content appropriately.
I'm glad you got a new season of the show you like! I'm glad you love the characters! I love online fandom and I hope y'all continue to enjoy doing your thing.
But as someone who worships Thor, Loki, and other Norse deities, I would like to not be flooded with MCU content when I'm trying to connect with other people who share my religion. I've blocked the #mcu, #marvel, #marvelloki, and #lokiseason2 tags, and I'm still getting MCU content in Heathen tags.
Please use proper tagging etiquette when posting about fictional characters who share names with real religious figures.

I often worry about why the gods spend time interacting with me and other people.
I feel I am lesser than them, and like… why would a god hang out with a human?
But I think honestly..it’s just such a pointless question to worry about. I could wonder all day every day and use my worries to invalidate my own practice. but it wouldn’t change anything.
Because they are there nonetheless, because they have answered questions and prayers. And because I can feel their love and sometimes their displeasure too.
Whether I feel worthy of these interactions really is irrelevant at the end of the day. Because they are happening and I should just be happy for that.

Remember today and always that your gods love you.
Remember today and always that Odin and Loki know and share your truth.
Remember today and always that Thor and Freyja battle by your side.
Remember today and always that Tyr fights for your justice and rights.
Remember today and always that Lofn celebrates your joy.
Remember today and always that your gods love you, that you have nothing to apologize for, that you are not alone, and that we will prevail against evil and cowardice.

Generic Norse Prayer 🕯️🤍
Hail to the gods, hail to the goddesses, hail to the mighty, hail to the wise.
Hail to the earth, hail to the sky, hail to the sea, with its ebb and flow.
Hail to the sun, hail to the moon, hail to the stars, that light up the night.
Hail to our ancestors, hail to our kin, hail to our friends, and hail to our foes.
May the gods bless us, may the goddesses guide us, may the spirits protect us,
May our deeds be honorable, may our words be true, and may our hearts be brave.
So be it.

Ppl: what about you?
Me: oh, I'm pagan- norse, mainly.
Ppl: oh OK. What does that mean exactly? Like who is your god?
Me: I worship the pantheon at large, but currently have a space on my altar for Odin and Freyja.

It feels like in CONCEPT most people are alright enough with paganism, even if they think it's strange, but I've found (frustratingly) that the second I ACTUALLY MENTION the Gods or my practice people just shut off, often into assumptions of the Gods as pop culture figures.
MY GODS ARE NOT NEW. THEY ARE NOT A JOKE OR SOMETHING CREATED FROM TIKTOK TEENAGERS OR MARVEL MOVIES OR BOOKS OR WEBCOMICS.

thinking about the nature of the gods today, specifically their physical nature, and more sepcifically, thor and freyja.
there seem to be two camps on thor. one, is that thor is a big, strong man who looks an awful lot like the marvel version. he's ripped and hot, but ultimately thin and conforming to modern standards of beauty. the second way of thinking, which is what ive seen in my experiences, is that thor is a BIG man, like world's strongest man size. he's tall, fat, and incredibly strong. this is a much more accurate version of thor, but if your upg is different i won't fight you about it.
now, we know that thor once dressed up like freyja and did so well enough to trick a whole party of jotunn. like, the only thing they thought was strange was how much "freyja" was eating. now, some of this we can certainly attribute to loki doing just an incredible job of dressing thor up and making him look pretty. after all, loki has a lot of experience in changing appearances and being a woman.
so, it got me thinking about freyja. because either way, freyja must be a big lady. like, she's either built like chris hemsworth or built closer to a worlds strongest man. and this makes sense because women back then were doing fucking WORK. noble women could be small and thin and feminine, at least in places like france and italy, but most women were doing hard, physical labor. freyja is considered the most beautiful of the godesses in asgard, and beauty standards being what they were, the chances of her conforming to modern day beauty standards are exactly nil.
freyja is a big, burly lady. thor is a big, burly man. who knows? maybe freyja even has a beard, or some sort of facial hair going on. unless thor shaved for his charade in jotunheim, which seems unlikely. bare faced thor? never.

Happy Thórr’s day, all! Let us share what the Bear God has taught each of us! I’ll go first:
Never stop being proud of the person you are: you are the product of your many experiences, both good and bad.
There is no shame to be had in wanting to have fun, no matter how trivial it might seem. It is crucial to your happiness.
Nevet let anyone tell you who you should and shouldn’t be. You and only you can know your wants and needs for sure.
There is always a reason to celebrate!
Your ability to fall and get back up again is your greatest strength.

As I raised a glass of mead to the sky, a toast to Thor, I saw lightning flash in the sky behind it. It was absolutely profound.
