Thinking of Secret Life SMP hybrid headcanons right now...

Grian would be a parrotlet. They're the smallest group of parrots and I feel like with how pathetic he's been this season he deserves to be just a little guy. He's still a pesky bird who, as season 6 proved, can definitely cause some mischief despite his reduced size, but he's a little guy anyway.

Jimmy is not a canary. Because, yes, he may have the canary curse, but that's just a fancy name for the curse, not necessarily his hybrid type. No, my man is a dog. He's a goddamn chihuahua. He's all bark and annoying but you take a single threatening step toward him and he shivers in fear.

On the topic of dogs, Martyn is a pomeranian. I'm specifically making him a small dog too because, despite wanting to act cool at the end of session 6, he is still very much the one who was first on yellow and red. My man is not big dog-coded.

Now, unpopular opinion, but Scar is a raccoon hybrid. He's a mischievous chaotic menace of a man. A little criminal ready to scam, commit arson, kill, and steal. He's a raccoon. He hasn't burrowed under anyone's house yet (that I remember at least) but that wouldn't be out of character either. Honestly, I'm appalled by the fact that this isn't a far more popular headcanon for him.

And, before I move on from dogs, Etho is also dog-coded. Specifically an Akbash (big white golden retriever-looking fuckers used for the protection of livestock). I just feel like the protectiveness and overall vibe fit him very well.

Finally, moving on from dogs. Cleo is obviously a zombie hybrid. There are no two ways around it. Though this does allow for my little headcanon that, having to learn on their own skin how to sew they became really good and really quick and they're the ones making all the new outfits for everyone else.

Gem meanwhile is specifically a sculk hybrid. Though I like to think that that came about when she opened the portal. She was a deer hybrid before (mostly because I like the subversion of expectations with a "prey" hybrid so to speak being arguably the most bloodthirsty person on the server) and then it spread like an infection. I figure by now her infected half straight-up looks something like Belos monster for from TOH:

Scott is something like a Reakirt’s Blue Butterfly. Both because the colors match him, and because he is kinda The Social Butterfly. My man is always out and about mingling with others. He's so friendly that he literally didn't struggle to pull off the "love you" challenge when everyone admitted that no one else would have been able to. It would be a waste not to make him some kind of butterfly at least.

Now, for Impulse I have something less reasoned, I just think the idea of him being an imp called Impulse is way too funny to resist. And he is way more of a mischievous one than I usually see people talk about. I've seen the phasmophobia stream where he killed everyone with the cursed items several times in a row just because he wanted to try them out. I know what he's capable of.

Meawhile his bestie Skizz is so capibara coded it's unreal. Like, don't get me wrong, he's plenty chaotic. But also you will never find anyone more lawful good in the Life Series than him. I've been thinking this since Love Island was founded. My man is the king of chilling with everyone. (Aside from Jimmy, rip Jimmy).

At the risk of being boring, I also like seeing Tango as a salamander hybrid. Exclusively because of the mythological connection between salamanders and fire. Also, the idea that every time he's flying (though it's funnier if it's also when he's simply jumping) he's nothing but a ball of fire with a lizard tail is very funny to me.

BigB is a hard one because I've only watched a couple of episodes from his POV so I'm not quite as familiar with the lore surrounding him as I am with the others. So I'm not sure. I want to say enderman because of his cryptid vibes this season, but he's not one of the characters with the biggest connection to the end. Those are mostly BDubs, Gem, and Lizzie, so I don't know. I'm open to suggestions.

Talking about BDubs, why are there no ender dragon hybrid headcanons for him around? I think it would be incredibly ironic if the dragon slayer was a dragon himself. Also, his house is under the Earth just like the End portals. Trust me, it makes so much sense. He's small but so full of righteous anger.

Pearl is no hybrid, she's literally just a witch. I've seen the WITCH animatic and that fundamentally changed my view of her forever. Before I would have said a moth hybrid of some kind because I do like moth Pearl, but I love that specific interpretation so much it's unreal. She is a witch with an army of hellhounds at her back and call.

Mumbo is a vampire because I've seen some art of vampire Mumbo at some point in time and it hasn't left my head since. Also, he's one of the players with the highest bloodlust every time he turns red. We're 2 for 2 on that with his appearances in the Life series. And it's usually also what leads to his demise. So I feel like that would be fitting for a vampire.

Meanwhile, my dearly beloved blorbo Joel is a honey-badger. This is a headcanon that is incredibly dear to me and I've never seen around but it's literally SO FITTING. The absolute crackhead energy, the lack of self-preservation, and the surprising sturdiness as time and time again he gets himself in impossible situations and still manages to survive until pretty much the end are all that exact honey-badger vibe. Like, just thinking of him summoning a hoard of zombies to fight off several infected and surviving for quite a while in those conditions just, really proves my point. Enough said.

Lizzie meanwhile is a very sad sopping wet cat. Just absolutely miserable. One of those cats who look like they're constantly grumpy. The frown has deepened ever since no one came to her party and she's still frowning in the void of death.

Hunter's looong list of siblings (Luz)

Yes, Hunter has a lot of parental figures everywhere. But what about the rest of the family? What about the kids and teenagers who have either something in common with him or their existence is just something he has no option but to accept? Let's start with the first sibling:

---Luz: The moment that mask fell off and he licked Luz we all know what they were meant to be (that sounds so wrong out of context) The point is that, although their personalities were so different, and so easily prone to conflict, their shared interests and similar good-hearted nature allowed them to strengthen that little and thin connection that they formed that night into something greater. Like a little seed destined to growth into a strong, robust tree. That meeting became the cataclysm that open up a road full of opportunities and possibilities for Hunter.

Meeting his first friend, partner and palisman Flapjack; The Speech and choice Amity gave to him at Eclipse Lake; Meeting Willow, spending a whole day with the Emerald entrails, living as the kid he was never given the chance to be, and getting to know the true Darius; Properly meeting Gus and the whole friendship that was born from it; Meeting Camila and experiencing what truly means to be loved by a parent.

It was thanks to Luz that Hunter got the chance to be... well, himself! The last and possibly most powerful demonstration of this comes from Thanks to Them, with that single line: "Yeah. Gonna make sure you're safe too, Hunter. You're family now." His reaction says everything. For the first time in his life he is being told he is loved, that he is part of a family that loves him, and this time he knows is true.

Hunter sees Luz as this literal miracle that not only saved his life, it change it for the better. He looks up to her and tries at every opportunity to follow her example of how to be a friend, and be part of a true family. All while as a way to repay her for everything, he protects her, teaches her how to defend herself, how to use a palisman, and everything he knows about magic and its history.

Luz in response threats him as not only a friend but like a brother, like someone she has known and trusted for her entire life, like family. She is not afraid to tease him for his crush on Wilow, joke about how much he expresses his love for Flapjack, or taunt him for his obsession with Cosmic Frontier.

For Luz Hunter isn't the Golden guard, or the emperor's right-hand man, or Belos's nephew, much less Caleb. For her Hunter is just... Hunter.

so uh. how we feelin right about now

Bro, I don't even know anymore. I'm STILL processing everything that happened in that episode.

I'm probably going to ramble about it beneath the cut. Spoiler warning!

1)The palisman egg. It's such a PERFECT thing for Luz to carve but PLEASE I JUST WANT TO SEE WHAT IT IS OH MY GOD. Literally praying that it's a bat. Still have to wait a week (or possibly until season 3 ;-;) to find out. Frothing at the mouth.

2) The Day of Unity. I will BET MONEY that Belos succeeds with the Day of Unity and season 3 is the gang dealing with the aftermath. That seems to be the pattern for stories like this (the end-of-arc-2 failure, etc)

3) The collector. He literally made a deal with Belos with a pinky swear. This kid is obviously being taken advantage of/lied to but is ALSO evil. I love how his interactions with Belos vs his rambles to himself keep us guessing. I have a lot of thoughts about his connection with King, and how Belos definitely lit the Moon Mirror on fire the same way King was made to. They're probably the only ones that can see and hear the shadow, and the only reason why Luz and Hunter were able to see him in Belos's memory was BECAUSE it was a memory. Lowkey hoping that he has an actual name reveal too. Calling him The Collector feels vaguely de-humanizing.

4) You know when they explain the plan in a show that it's going to go wrong. No one is safe and I am so scared. Also those "Steve/Eber is the Traitor" theories out there. If either of them are, I will literally riot. If ANY of the CATTs are a traitor I will riot. This show is giving me STRESS.

5) GUS WILLOW AND HUNTER. I WAS NOT EXPECTING THEM IN THIS EP. HUNTER'S FRIENDSHIP W GUS. NEW OUTFITS. HUNTER AND LUZ TALKING ABOUT HOLLOW MIND. That ENTIRE section of them kicking ass when getting to Amity. These kids man.

6) LUMITY KISS WITH HIGH ANIMATION QUALITY. NEED I SAY MORE.

7) Epic divorce, Blight parents. We love to see it. Does anyone else think there's symbolism in the oracle magic being used against the abomination magic? Hope Ed and Em are okay.

8) I have. SO many emotions over The Switch. I went into this episode BLIND and I knew Luz's plan that she whispered to Gus was still in play, but I had no clue what it was. I couldn't trust anything on the screen knowing that Gus was doing something. Was Alador an illusion? No, because he had King with him, and Gus wouldn't have known that. Kikimora was actually hitting stuff, so those weren't illusions either. When "Luz" teleported and saved Willow I just thought "Oh, maybe Luz's palisman helped her out there?" When "Hunter" blew a raspberry at Kiki I was like "I... guess he can put aside his trauma and literally do nothing to save himself for the sole purpose of antagonizing Kiki?" I literally had NO IDEA they switched until the illusion was broken. I lost my goddamn mind.

9) Even with all these emotional whiplash moments the only time I outright gasped was seeing Willow go sicko mode. Cape flapping in the wind and everything. Yes girl give us murder. Coven officials are LUCKY they have Luz to hide behind or else these witches would have killed them.

10) I am. SO EXCITED for more Belos and Luz interactions. It's going to be terrifying. It's going to be GREAT. Two humans in the demon realm what will they do.

So, here’s my two cents on Alador Blight for what it’s worth.

When he was introduced, I just couldn’t decide what to think. Yes, his seeming obliviousness and goofiness and how much delight he found something as simple as a butterfly made me want to like him.

But he was no help to his kids or their friends when Odalia, his wife was being… well, a bitch. He didn’t side with her, he just stood by. Was this apathy? Is he just such a workaholic he’s honestly oblivious to the family dynamics and how Odalia treats their children? Even if he genuinely WAS that busy it didn’t excuse what looked like him being neglectful.

Then the episode with that brawl aired, and we saw more of him. He obliviously just tried to make Amity stick to Odalia’s plans without hearing what she was trying to say or even turning away from his work for even a moment. Cue pity for Amity and relief that she at least had her big brother and sister there for her.

Then soon after he arrives at the brawl everything goes wrong. All while battling Amity, frustrated that he not only doesn’t listen but is keeping her out of the fight like she can’t defend herself or help out she finally lets it all out. And something amazing and heartening happened: Alador LISTENED. He immediately dropped Odalia’s plans in favor of being supportive and promising to do what he could where her mother was concerned.

But it’s acknowledged that that isn’t enough yet when she denies his attempt at a hug. And again, he listens. Maybe it kinda felt like a slap in the face that he’d failed Amity so much she shakes his hand instead of accepting his offer of a hug? Satisfying promise for the future, as far as I could see.

Then the latest episode aired. When he tried to speak up to Odalia she went for her brooch the same way she did when she was threatening Amity. I’m immediately worried, has she been abusing him all these years the way she has been Amity? What exactly is the magic she’s threatening to use on them?

When he’s finally seen away from Odalia this episode, he’s bearing his soul out to King, who is disguised as a guard. He says he hasn’t had a day off in FIVE YEARS. That’s horrible and I felt for him. Seems he hadn’t even been allowed a chance to even try to be a real father and that was half the parent issues in the Blight household to me. (The other half being Odalia is a manipulative, possibly abusive bitch.) And he desperately wants to be a real father to the kids, get to know them and work on making up for his past failings. I’m impressed, once Amity made him see there were issues he’d clearly thought thoroughly on how he can change things and be better.

Then King, who has been disguised as a guard the whole time, confirms that the suspicions Alador tried to voice to Odalia earlier about their business dealings with Belos were 100% spot on and worse than he realized. He tells Alador the truth about the day of unity.

He immediately goes to warn Odalia only to see her imprisoning their kids, his younger daughter’s girlfriend and their friends. And the bombshell drops: Odalia knew but was too power hungry to care. I don’t know if she realizes the draining spell would probably mean everyone dies INCLUDING her and I doubt it’d change anything for her.

When the fight is over and Odalia is gone he immediately tells the kid who seems to be Luz that she’s always welcome. All in all, he’s making progress and wants to change things for the better and I’m optimistic.

As a parent, Alador is worlds ahead of Odalia but still has work to do, knows it and is ready and willing to put in the effort needed to change and fix things. I’m satisfied, and think he has potential to be a wonderful father without Odalia and being overworked holding him down.

In the end, my main thoughts regarding Alador as a character is get this man divorce papers and a long, long vacation stat.

Wanna know what makes my blood boil so much in Hollow Mind? Belos laughs. Which yes, he does at the very end with the "big reveal" but he laughs at so many other times too! (Pictures for general area that you can hear the other laughter at btw)

So we all know that this fucker is the real inner Belos taking form of a child to manipulate Luz.

However when I first watched this episode, I was a lot like Luz and Hunter in the sense that I didn't catch all the other times Belos laughed. It wasn't till I rewatched it did I catch this and man does it make me angry

The first time we hear Belos laughs is after they've hopped into the first memory and he leads them to the exact spot the memory is. He laughs three times here. Three seperate times. He's so excited. So excited to show his manipulation that he's done on the witches. To show Luz and Hunter, mostly Luz with evidence at the end of the episode where he reveals he's a witch hunter and says they're the same, his plan that's been in motion for years. He can't even contain himself.

The next time he laughs is when he jumps into the memory to show off his sigils and the plan to kill everyone with them. Which oh boy this memory amiright? Imagine being giddy to show a 16 year old and a 14 year old your plans for genocide.

He laughs a lot in this memory too. Each time getting more and more giddy and louder. To finally tell someone other than the Collect about your plan? It must have been euphoric for him. All his hard work to the other human? Sure, there's your "nephew" there but this is for a whole other post.

He laughs as they leave the memory too, knowing- KNOWING- that he just showed two people his plan that

1) He knows no one will believe if (Luz) told others and even if she did, he believes she can't stop him. So it's not a threat.

2) He knows the other is super dedicated to him. But this is also a test for Hunter. (Which will be another post about how Belos set Hunter up so he would "betray" him.)

He's having fun with this.

So much fun in fact that he laughs again when Hunter tries to DEFEND HIM saying that maybe Belos is remembering wrong and going as far as saying "Who knows how Mindscapes work!" When we the audience, Luz, himself AND BELOS THAT WAS OVERHEARING since the beginning that this kid DOES know how mindscapes work.

But this leads to the chase and then the flee into the BIG memory! Belos planned this. He knows where he was leading them. He knows how this memory is about his plans for the day of Unity. And here, he laughs about the hardest besides "the big reveal." And it's all because Luz saying "HE'S GOT THE PORTAL?!"

He's ENJOYING their reactions. He's loving their looks and reactions. He knows Luz is most likely trying to make her own portal and that laugh was equal to a person who now knows they have something more. Like an child laugh when they find out they have more rare pokemon cards than you. He's finding power and joy in this.

But the last time we hear him laugh before "the big reveal" is when hes setting up the trap for all the Palismen souls. "Sounds like he wants to wipe out all life in the demon realm." Says Luz causing Belos to laugh as yes, that is his goal. But even now, they do not recognize the additional laughter.

He is a little bitch boy. And oh my god. I hate him so much.

Saw some more stuff about TOH finale feeling inadequate because of its lack of focus on the Philip/Caleb/Evelyn storyline that's been building up, and I'm just having some thoughts because honestly I think people tend to overemphasize the weight that Caleb had on Belos' character arc. Obviously that sounds odd, I'm sure, because that's the whole reason he went to the Boiling Isles, etc etc, however: Caleb falling in love with Evelyn wasn't the catalyst for Philip's descent into villainy, it was the initial consequence.

The point is that he's a manifestation of the colonial christian environment he's grown up in, he's internalized these beliefs, about the evil and danger of witches. And don't get me wrong, Caleb going against that certainly did a number on him, especially since they probably were incredibly close before Caleb left to be with Evelyn. But the seeds of bigotry were still there.

And I think this ties into the fact that even in a show that is about the underdog, about "weirdos", that people still overvalue the 'one good white man' that learned not to be a bigot. This is also present in a lesser extent to how the fandom treats Hunter. Like, YES, Caleb and Hunter & every other grimwalker were so undeniably hurt by what Belos had done, but they weren't the only ones! I think to focus Belos' defeat on them cheapens what the other members of the cast had gone through because of his reign.

Does the finale still have issues? Yeah, sure. It's not perfect, especially given the time constraints. No finale the show put out was going to be "perfect" given the circumstances. But maybe we need to stop having tunnel vision for our faves or something or other I don't know I had a hunter icon on this godforesaken site for months I really shouldn't be talking here

“Yeah?” Goldie turned towards me.

“Do you remember life before the coven?”

“I mean…No, not really. It’s kinda always been…me and Belos.” He shrugged, unfazed.

“Huh.”

“Why do you ask?”

“No reason, don’t worry about it.” I shook my head. He hesitated, but nodded.

But I did have reasons. I wasn’t gonna tell Goldie, but I did intend to talk to my Hunter about them…

“So…You were taken in by your coven at…eleven?” He frowned, pursing his lips.

I nodded. “I know, it’s kinda early, but…yeah. I had nowhere else to go.”

“Funny. My uncle took me into his coven when I was really little too- I don’t even remember my parents, I can’t imagine how much it’d suck to remember them and not have them.” He sighed.

I shrugged. “That’s the thing, I don’t remember much about them at all. Which is weird, considering I was…eleven. Apparently I had some kind of head injury.”

“Huh.” He shrugged and took a sip of his drink. “Do you….remember anything before then?”

“Yeah. Everything but my parents.” I sighed. “This is dumb, you being forced to hear about this…let’s do something fun.”

He raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”

I smiled, trying to shake off the sense of unease that had settled around us. “Let’s go shopping!”

“....Huh.” He frowned.

“Oh- do you not like shopping?”

“...I….I don’t know. My uncle does the shopping, so.”

“Wellll…prepare for a wonderful experience, my dude!” I grinned dramatically, slamming down my cup. “Hold on, do you mind if I invite a couple friends?”

He hesitated, before shaking his head. “Sure, sounds…good!”

I faltered. What was wrong?

“I mean…I don’t have to invite friends, I just thought it might be…y’know, kinda fun…”

He shook his head, eyes widening. “No no, invite friends! It’ll be great.” He assured me, patting my shoulder.

I smiled. “Thanks, Hunter. I promise, this’ll be great, or you get your money back in full!”

“You…wha-? I…what money?”

I shook my head. “Dumb joke, sorry. Now let me just text Emira and Edric…”

As I pulled up their contacts, I scrolled past Goldie’s. Should I….

Nah, best to not invite him.This Hunter might be a radical and get turned off by my coven friend, and besides, Other Hunter was probably busy. (As per usual- he was never available when I tried to take him places)

And on top of it all, that meant revealing Cinder. Goldie might have warmed up to me, but I had a funny feeling he’d hate Cinder- and plus, my cover would be blown.

Yes, it was much better to invite Ed and Em. They were far less…controversial than my golden-faced friend.

“Perfect. They’ll meet us at that potions shop in like, five-ish minutes.” I nodded.

“Cool.”

I returned to the castle at nightfall. I had been supposed to meet with Belos for some assignment, but I had also warned him that I planned on using my day off…

I sighed. It would probably be best if I just went now, better late than never.

But I don’t want to.

….But I have to.

Ugh.

I groaned and turned around, back down the hallway towards the throne room.

As I approached the doors, I noticed that the guards had all gone to bed already. That probably wasn’t a good sign, considering I would have to face Belos alone…This was probably about the selkidomus incident. He still hadn’t mentioned that, and making me squirm was very much within his idea of fun- it was working, I was nervous as hell.

I slowly pushed the door open, shivers running down my spine. I was fully prepared to meet his wrath, to have my self esteem torn down- and he’d try to convince me that I was deserving of the poor treatment, that I had disappointed him.

It was bull, obviously. Lilith had taught me well, as had my parents…hopefully. I frowned and tried to picture them…I found myself more and more bothered by my amnesia lately.

Wait. I drew my breath. It was too quiet…the room was empty? Belos…wasn’t there?

Well well well, Belos left his stuff unprotected! And more importantly, the library of journals was left alone too!

And in a heartbeat, my fear had melted away. (Sort of.) This was exactly the sort of insight that Lilith and Eda needed! I ran towards the bookshelf, surprised that it wasn’t locked with some sort of spell.

The Collector had been waiting for a long time. He was booorred, he wanted something to do! There was this one plaything of Belos’s, who was returning again to the throne room. Belos like that toy- so did the Collector. It was clever, and kinda snoopy. It had even discovered a few important secrets- like of the Hunter, that ‘nephew’. It had even discovered the secret about itself, of it’s role as ‘the ex-friend’. Obviously, it had forgotten, otherwise it wouldn’t be back- but the Collector had been waiting for a long time. So he thought it might be fun to play with it, to turn off the library’s spells…to let it hunt again, worry, wonder. He smirked, and the library opened just as the (Y/N) stepped into the (mostly) empty room.

I sized up the bookshelf. There were years worth of journals on it, in rows….but what was this? I looked a bit closer.

‘(Y/N) (L/N)’

What the hell?

I reached for the little leather-bound book. It was small enough to fit into my pocket, and the cover had an embossing of the moon phases.

This was creepy.

I took a deep breath and opened the cover.

Once upon a time there was a witch. Now that would be all well and good if it weren’t 1656, but it was, unfortunately, 1656.

It all starts with Adam, of course....but we'll get there soon.

Hi, I’m (Y/N) (L/N), and I think I know too much.

What the hell. I swallowed thickly as I stared at the page.

There was a creak from behind me.

“(Y/N), what’ve you got there?”

Belos. Fuck. WHY WAS BACK? …Was he there the whole time?!

My hands trembled as I shut the leather book.

“Nothing worthwhile, sir- just…um. A scrapbook.” I answered.

“A scrapbook.” He came into view, mask shining in the candlelight.

“Yes? I thought you knew how much I love art!” I said defensively.

“With…that book?”

He recognizes it. Shit.

“Well, I haven’t used it yet- It will be a scrapbook soon.”

He came closer, raising an eyebrow. “So…you wouldn’t mind if I took a quick glance at the contents of that book, would you?”

Shit.

“Heh- there’s nothing much to see, sir. It’s…blank. A waste of…time.”

“If it’s blank, then I’m sure you won’t mind me checking.” Belos said.

I felt the color drain from my face. “No, I suppose…I suppose I shouldn’t. Since it’s blank.”

He took the book, glancing over it.

“Well.” He said calmly. “It seems it is blank. Nonetheless, this book belongs to an old friend of mine…I will be keeping it, soldier. And as for you…how did you manage to get back here?” His tone was even, but there was something dangerous hidden beneath it. Like there were hairline cracks in his ever-so-smooth facade.

Why did he think it was blank?!

I coughed. “I was looking for you, sir. And the book fell from its spot, and I thought I’d ask you if I could use it for my art- since it’s blank.”

“Well, You’ve found me. I think you’ll find it prudent, however, if you avoid taking things that aren’t yours in the future?”

I nodded quickly. “Yessir, my Lord. I guess.”

“Good. Now if you don’t mind, I’ll be sending you down to Terra- you know her, of course, correct.”

“Obviously,” I snorted, trying to sound as blaise as I usually did. As if I hadn’t found something horribly confusing and scary.

Who the fuck wrote that book?! (Y/N) (L/N) from another dimension?!

“Wonderful. I’m glad we’re on the same page.”

“....Sir, was that a pun? …Considering the book and all?”

He gave a long sigh. “Just go to Terra. Tell her to give you a spot of tea.”

I nodded numbly.

“Well Sprout, it’s been a while since I saw you last,” Said the head of the plant coven. “I’m glad you’ve come to visit me- it sounds like you were in need of a good cup of tea.”

I smiled nervously. Terra’s words might’ve been kind, but she gave me a weird feeling- Like with Belos, there was more to her than it seemed. Like she may be trying to come off as kind and neutering, only to reveal she was actually poisonous.

Maybe it was her shoes. If taste in shoes determines trustworthiness, and her shoes…were really ugly, then that absolutely proved that she was evil.

Kidding. Obviously.

She handed me a cup of tea, patting my hand gently. Her hands may have been warm, but they sent jolts like ice down my spine.

“Uhm…this is a bit of a misunderstanding, but I…I’m not very thirsty right now! So I might…pass on this for now, thanks though!” I grinned and tried to stand up, only for vines to tighten around my ankles. I tripped and fell on my face.

“Sprout, you need to learn to follow orders, you know that? You may be the coven head, but I think I just might know a little bit more about what’s best for you… So why don’t you just drink your tea, hmm?” She smiled, bringing the cup to my lips. I tried to get her to stop, but every attempt was met with tighter vines.

I gulped. I don’t know what’s in that tea, but it definitely isn’t gonna be healthy.

“Terra? Are you in here?” Said a voice. She jumped, spilling the tea onto the ground.

The door swung open. “Terra, Darius was looking for you…Oh, did I interrupt one of your tea parties?”

She scowled briefly, before turning to the person at the door.

“Of course you didn’t interrupt me, Raine Whispers. I was just preparing something for (Y/N) here.”

Raine smiled, pulling a chair for themself at the table. “Oh, how fun! Here, let me replace your cup- it seems like I unfortunately made you spill yours. Sorry about that!”

I nodded dejectedly. “Um…Thank you, Mx. Whispers. I was just telling Terra that I’m not that thirsty though, so don’t feel too bad about it.”

They shrugged as Terra sat back at the table. “Well you see Raine, Belos said that (Y/N) needs tea.”

Raine nodded in understanding as I tried to find a way out.

They poured me a cup, blowing away the steam. “Well, here you go, Coven Head. Emperor’s orders!”

I smiled fakely. I couldn’t get out of this one. I drank a sip, preparing for something to happen…And….

Nothing? Maybe it would go into effect later….

Raine rose from the table. “Well, I think that’s quite enough tea for one day. Come along, (Y/N)- let me escort you back to your room.”

Terra nodded, smiling. “Yes yes, up to bed Sprout. You’ll feel much better by morning.”

Author's note: I know, I know, there isn't a lot of Hunter in this... I hope you'll all forgive me, but this is where (Y/N)'s plot picks up a bit! However, I promise that Hunter/Goldie will be heavily featured in the next chapter.

FULL REVIEW: Thanks to Them

I HAVE ALL OF THE THOUGHTS!

Hot damn, I don't know whether to go by topic or by chronological order.

Gonna go by topic. I don't think I have enough screencaps to go by chronological order

Luz: As someone else pointed out on tumblr, Luz's depression is very real. The guilt of helping Belos find The Collector and leaving Eda and King behind is still weighing on her. Granted, I do believe that she is enjoying her time with her friends and the actual date she probably had with Amity (off screen because FUCK YOU DISNEY. I'LL **** YOU. WU-TANG!), but every moment that she's alone with her thoughts is just thoughts of how she messed up. When Luz did her video diary entry I was starting to get upset because I knew that whatever Luz decided I wasn't gonna like. She has a bad habit of putting all the weight on her shoulders. I really hope she grows out of it because she's done it several times before in the show and I didn't like it then either. Luckily there was...

Camila: Probably my second favorite character in this episode. Man, she was great. Yes, it was cool to see Eda go from the lady who makes Luz run her errands to being the momma of Luz and King. But Camila had "world's best mom" before the episode started.

Like she started taking care of those kids, immediately. She did her research, bought books, asked questions. God bless Camila. And she also probably saved the episode for me because when Luz was gonna make her big terrible announcement that I knew I was gonna like, Camila made an interference play.

Interception! Gonna be honest, I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING. Camila going to the demon realm was not in my Thanks to Them Bingo card. This is why I don't make theories or predictions because I can't predict shit.

Camila was my second favorite character in this episode. My favorite character ended up being

Hunter: I've said this about other characters but not Hunter, but I guess I'll say it now.

"You're my boy, Hunter. YOU'RE MY BOY!"

Seriously, as someone who donates $20 a month to the Wolf Conservation Center, it was so cool to see a character who loves wolves as much as I do. But that wasn't the only thing. It was fun to see Hunter get into things and have fun. He's gotten better at sewing. He's engaging with his friends more. And turning into a sci-fi nerd was the beautiful icing on the big dumb cake. Even my brother, who didn't like Hunter, ended up liking Hunter after this episode. And then we got my favorite line in the episode.

That's just great. Something I wish I would have learned at his age.

Gus: I don't have much to say about Gus except that he was very funny in this episode. If anyone asks why I didn't like the friendship between Tom and Marco in Star vs the Forces of Evil, I'm gonna tell them it's because Gus and Hunter did it better. He was the second funniest character in this episode. The funniest character in my opinion was

Willow: Someone was having a good time. See her poking people with that trident and her muahaha and her not liking Hocus Pocus and she was was just awesome in this episode. It also looks like things are inching closer towards huntlow (or as the Owl crew jokes "Winter is coming"). She makes him blush a lot and I'm just remembering how she held him when Camila fished him out of the water and her "be careful with him." I didn't I'd like this ship when it started but I'm all for it now.

and I didn't forget

Amity: ^This here^ was the moment when I paused (I was watching on YouTube TV) and said "Look at this. Look how good this is. Who could ever see this and think that it's bad or wrong?" She loves her so much. Amity was great in this episode and her line "I was a top student once" reminded me of the time during grom when she bumped into Luz and snapped "Watch it, nitwit" before realizing it was her. Amity loves Luz but I think there still might be some bully still in there. Not that I mind. Amity is still Amity. And of course the ambitious Amity would be the one to suggest exploring the human realm. And I'm loving the hair getting longer.

Vee: Sweet Vee. I'm not the biggest fan of her new form. Honestly I kinda wanted it to be Luz with freckles but I'll get used to it.

Flapjack: Is Flapjack Evalyn or just the last bit of Evalyn left in the world? I guess we'll find out. Good night, sweet prince. Honestly I was so scared that Belos was going to absorb him the way he does other palismans. Remember when he was trembling behind that tombstone? Have you ever seen an animal be legit scared? It's like that and it's heartbreaking.

Belos: Belos was terrifying in this episode. I'm glad we got official backstory after putting the pieces together during Hollow Mind, but I still want a full flashback. I don't know if we have time for it (because of Disney. How dare you? Wu-Tang!). Maybe it's just me being selfish.

Even though I said I don't make theories, seeing the titan's blood with an owl cork did get me thinking. My theory is that Caleb didn't move to The Boiling Isles full time right away. My guess is that he and Evalyn were seeing each other, hopping back and forth between realms, before Caleb decided to settle down there. So I guess either Evalyn or Caleb left a stash of titan's blood for whenever one of them needed it.

And I do agree with everyone else that I do think Evalyn was a Clawthorne. I guess that makes Hunter a Clawthorne too in a weird way.

Misc Thoughts:

The Noceda set up is the same as mine! A Switch and a PS4. You think that's a PS5? Hell no. Who buys a game console for $600? You must be out of your damn mind.

Screw you, you old bitch. Luz is too good for your shit art class anyway. I bet the beastkeeping kids over at Hexside would have loved Luz's griffin taxidermy.

I don't know who those guys were that gave Luz the Haunted Hayride flyer, but I immediately didn't like them. They just gave off a bad vibe to me. I'm guessing they were supposed to be human supporting characters for season 3, but for the first time I'm glad time was cut. No thank you.

Scrapbook of Cut Episodes!

Kinda cruel to make Luz go to (human) school, but I get it.

I wish we could have had more fun, but I'm glad they crammed as much fun as they could.

The Cosmic Frontier stuff was hilarious. I thought it was Manny's (Luz's dad) thing but then I saw Camila freak out and then I was like "OMG *gasp* YOU were the nerd!"

Now we're going back to the demon realm and...I have no idea what's gonna happen next. I can't even guess. We don't know anything about The Collector so who knows what they've done to The Boiling Isles. I'm just as scared as you are.

So when it comes to how the show will end and most specifically what Luz will chose. Staying with Camilla or going back to the Isles. What you do think she’ll do?

Personally I’ve seen a lot of people say that they desperately want Luz to stay in the Isles and giving the argument that the Isles is where she belongs, that the show is about belonging and while that is true. I personally also think it’s about changing, finding belonging but also growth and growing up. Yes the Isles gave Luz what she always wanted; gave her people and friends and family that understand her when the human world saw her as weird and she was lonely.

But what a lot of people don’t talk about is when Luz decided to stay there and become a witch she’s actively by default running away from her mom and also running away from her problem by escaping into her fantasy land.

Something that reminds me of the book Where The Wild Things Are. The idea of a child escaping to their ideal fantasy land because they feel like real world has failed them or they feel unloved so they escape to a world that will. In the book, Max’s world was of his own imagination but he was still able to grow, belong and change because of it and had the strength to go back home.

And while Luz’ situation is very different then Max’s seeing as she sees the Isles as her home. The foundation is still there where the Isles gave Luz a change to grow, to live out her fantasy life in real time, and be in a place where she belongs, while also showing her that change is inevitable

Now I’m not saying all that because I want Luz to leave the Isles forever and never come back. No that would literally break the fandoms heart. But I also don’t want Luz to never see her mother again or for her to continue to think that the human world failed her, and is subpar to the Isles: both worlds are beautiful. Both worlds can continue to give Luz the growth, belonging and love she needs, if she lets them.

Luz's conflict with her mother and the Boiling Isles actually reminds ME of one of a quote from CS Lewis;

“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.”

And, in many ways, this is what separates Luz from Belos. Luz came to the Isles thinking she was the protagonist of an isekai, and treating her journey as such at first. But she learned that the things she wanted required hard work and practice. So she worked her butt off and learned, and grew as a result. She changed and matured, finding friendship and love and a place for herself by listening to those around her and figuring out how to fit in a place where she might not have been born, but found a sense of belonging that has been denied to her her entire life.

Meanwhile, Philip came to the isles and saw it as an opportunity to be a hero, to be the greatest witch hunter ever. And any chances he received to change and grow, to revise his opinion and learn to be better, were met with stubborn resistance and hostility. He refused to ever consider he was wrong, that the Boiling Isles and witches had every right to exist just as humans did in spite of their differences. So while Luz matured and grew, Philip remained locked in a very childish mindset and refused to let go of it.

I don't think Luz sees the Human world as subpar to the Boiling Isles, but I do think that she wasn't happy there and the only thing she loved there was her mother, and if Luz had to return and put on a 'human' face after everything that happened, it would make her miserable for the rest of her life. It's not what Luz deserves, and I doubt very much it's what Camila wants for her daughter. This isn't a story where the fantasy world is equated with childishness and the 'real' world with being an adult. This is a story about finding yourself and embracing your oddities to find your version of happy, even if it's not the sort of thing that would make our parents happy.

Growing up sometimes means finding our own place in the world, and Luz has found her place on the Boiling Isles.

Can I just say how much I loved Hunter fighting back against Belos? Because yes, he's possessed and that's something you should probably fight against, but it's such a good moment for Hunter as well.

This is the man that has manipulated him for sixteen years, that Hunter was so fiercely loyal to and loved so much that he had to get stuck in his actual mind to realize oh, maybe he's not such a great guy. (I think Hunter was on his way to figuring that out himself, but that definitely sped things up)

He never stood up to Belos. Belos could look over his shoulder with a slightly menacing look, and Hunter would back off. Belos controlled his life to such an extent that he was never around kids his own age, and Belos would consume Palismen in front of him, never worried that he would spill to the coven heads or scouts about it.

Even once Hunter was around better people, and those people were in danger, he couldn't stand up to him. He was the only one who never truly fought Belos in the battle against him in the Titan's head, terrified and hurt and I think, personally, still wanting it to be a lie. I think Hunter still loved Belos, even after he found out about his manipulations. Because that's how abusive situations, especially parental ones, feel. Hunter didn't want to go against Belos, he still wanted to be wrong.

So, the fact that he not only fights against him for the first time in his life, but actively says things that he knows will make Belos angrier, (Wanting to study wild magic, wanting to go to Hexside, wanting to carve Palismen, etc) is such an important milestone for him.

Hunter found himself in the human realm, uncontrolled and without his literal mask. He felt real, actual, unconditional love for the first time with his friends, with Camila, and with Flapjack, and I think it all added up to his complete rejection of his Uncle's authority over him.

gotta love all the callbacks this ep is doing. i could make a compilation of them but it’s like they’re saying ‘we know this is the end, but remember the journey’ remember remember remember ughhhhhh toh will never die.

love how all the glyphs have their natural element form, but also other connotations! the light glyph deals w light, but also knowledge, truth (it helps wake up the people of the isles) but also the obscuring of truth (the invisibility glyph) while fire is both fire and like, movement, the sphere titan!luz travels in is made of fire glyphs while the teletransporting spell has a fire glyph in the middle, light also seems to have themes of ife? and it makes sense for fire to be movement: the more hot something is, the more the atoms in it aare moving and just…. hajdjakd.

My Reaction to Thanks To Them

Took me two days to finish my projects first before watching this but it is definetely worth the antagonising wait.

what is it with second to last episodes and the blood moon lately? and the way both matched the recent blood moon eclipse is pretty wild ngl

so I assume Amity, Willow, Gus, Hunter, King and Alador will head to the uh, the head, but they'll get there later. hopefully not too late

though I am scared for King being anywhere near there given the whole thing with the Collector... oh, next week will be INSANE

It'll be sad to say goodbye to the Owl House for the time being, but I know it'll deliver a crazy season finale. oof, can't wait

- Osran actually lowkey wants to get along with Terra again. He’d kinda miss the days when he and Terra were considered friends (or at least friendly to each other). Don’t get him wrong, he’s perfectly happy with his family and marriage, it’s just one of those things you wish turned out better, you know?

Maybe Terra (along with Petunia and Saul) finds out Osran has a pic of Riley somewhere and she’s like “Oh my Titan…”. Cue the two actually bonding.

Terra may still be bitter, and I’m not saying that they’ll become friends afterward, but they’d definitely bond over it

-Like I said, Terra killed Faust after he pissed her off, so she fed him to Nemesia, her man-eating plant

-You don’t want to be stuck in Terra’s greenhouse. You just don’t. It’s kinda like LSOH, but 10x worse

-Osran gives out parenting advice to Darius :)

-Vitimir treats Evangaline like his own child. I like to think their relationship is kinda like Luz and King. Eve says something like “Welp, time to mess around and find out!” and Vit is like “Oh my gosh, I love you so much. I’m so proud of you 🥺🥺🥺🥺”

-Mason really wishes to bond more with Steve and Matt, but can’t due to Belos overworking the coven heads. He was always so proud of how Steve turned out

-Mason also has a lot of…..history with Steve and Matt’s moms, but we don’t talk about that. Very messy divorces

-Ever since Serafine started warming up to Adrian, he’s gotten more and more protective of her. Their friendship is kind of like that of Belle and the Beast without the romance lol

-Osran fam headcanon: Cassandra used to study oracle magic, but switched bc of Osran

I like to think it was like how Willow was forced into the abomination track by her dads cuz of the opportunities

Except Osran forced Cassandra into studying oracle magic because he wanted to continue the family tradition of being in the oracle coven

Unlike Willow, Cass was actually decent (at best) at oracle magic, but she always had an interest in making potions like her mother. Because Osran wanted to be a good father figure, he kept pushing Cass to be almost as good as him (since she wasn’t very good at first). She didn’t really mind it at first, but because Osran was so adamant on her being an oracle, she got so sick of it and changed to studying Potions with Ophelia.

It’s not like she did it out of the blue, every time Ozzie wanted her to practice, she would always find time to watch Ophelia making potions and started to spend less time with her father, much to Osran’s dismay cuz Cass is a daddy’s girl, so that kinda hurt him a bit

It took some time, but Osran finally accepted that Cass wanted to be in the potions coven and thankfully, he learned his mistake and let Chalfont and Minerva go their own paths
