Better Novel Scrivener Template

BTW, If you liked the Settings Template, this has that plus more...

The Current Novel Template is out of date, the templates aren't really doing much for you. And the variety of icons is rather thin. I set out to fix this.

The template as a whole is PG-13 as the Character Template mentions "dangerous" things like "Kinks" and "Safe Words" OMG. I know. So terrible. So if you don't want to explain those things to anyone underage, don't download it.

As I am NB, and generally queer otherwise, I have included things like Sexual Orientation, Romantic Orientation and a whole load of things to think about when building CHARACTER, SETTING, WORLDBUILDING. I included things that people often forget by using my Uni and College knowledge.

Please, please read the "Read Me First" file if you want to avoid having to load missing icons. I give instructions.

In case you still opened it despite my warnings or it doesn't work, you'll have to load in the icons manually. In which case this is a reference:

The New Icons are: Domestic Products, Imported Goods, Exported Goods, Laws, and Social Stratification. I added extra icons for Weapons and Warfare in case you're not writing Fantasy. Laser Guns and a Historical Pistol.

I did my best to make it CULTURALLY NEUTRAL. If you want them specific, you're on your own.

I also added if you'd like to load them

All these Icons to the folder so You can finally color code your manuscripts to your heart's content. (My unending frustration with Scrivener).

I added an SVG file so if there is an exact shade I missed on the Spiral Notebook Colors or the Hardcover Books, you can add it.

The Composition Notebook file isn't included as it contains a pattern. However, I made pains to make sure it matches real life colors that exist in Composition Notebooks. You wanted the Settings Template? There are 2. One for City/Towns. One general one.

Zero Organization or Clue on Querying or Self pubbing?

I put up Organization Folders for you.

Here are the Templates you get. Everything is beefed up for you. I spent forever on these Templates and testing them. I also cued Styles to them so it's easy to change the colors. If you want to change something, as the About document says, turn on invisibles.

The Default Styles aren't useless anymore.

There are two native icons already for Medicine--syringe and pill, but I kind of felt it didn't always give the feel of fantasy, so I made a Mortar and Pestle from scratch to add, but if you're doing sci-fi or contemporary, etc you can change to the syringe or pill.

I added explainers as well for the items to the guide.

Why?

'Cause. I would love to be able to see people put more thought into their worlds/worldbuilding, even if it doesn't show up. Maybe it won't be only horses for animals as pets. Or an occasional dog. Haha. Having a gay dog like Robin Williams would be great.

Sometimes I’m scared of becoming a toxic asshole for thinking these things, but when I saw the transmasc separatist dude, some of the things called for were things I already wanted to do. Like, seeking out transmasc authors and read their books, or transmasc musicians and listening to their music, or only dating other transmascs, or sticking to transmasc spaces. But I don’t want to do this because I think non-transmascs are incapable of not being transandrophobic. I want this because I’ve been hurt and all this feels like a way to give me some room to breathe and heal. And it’s frustrating cause the separatist stuff feels like it’s inviting me in for that but I don’t think it will help but I’m scared of others telling me I’m no better than them for needing space. I don’t know. Maybe I just suck at unity. Hate to think that tho.

I think there's a big difference between, like, "it feels good to discuss common experiences with people who understand them" (extremely normal and fine), and "it is only safe to interact with people just like me and everyone else is trying to hurt me" (unhealthy and counterproductive).

Everyone wants to see themselves in the things they read and watch. Everyone wants to relate to other people.

And I mean, I created a discord server for Transmascs for this reason; there weren't really any spaces where transmascs could talk about transmasc experiences with each other, and the lack of any kind of transmasc "community" was very sorely felt. I guess you don't see it as much lately, and I'm so incredibly grateful for why that is- but a lot of the early conversations around this stuff talked about how being transmasc was considered shameful or regressive; it wasn't something we were supposed to find joy or pride in, and it wasn't something you were supposed to connect with other people about. And that did so much damage to transmascs! It made us isolated and lonely, and it made it so hard to talk about anything we were going through that we often bought into the lie that none of it was real, or important enough to discuss. Not to mention the impact on our ability to share and get relevant information or resources.

There's nothing wrong with needing some space to talk about shared experiences with people who get it- and I'd argue that this kind of space is deeply necessary. We don't need to give that up. That's not what unity is.

Unity is recognizing that other transmascs are not the only people we share common experiences with. We're not the only safe people, or the only people with talking to, or the only people we need to be fighting for.

It's good to connect to your community! Keep doing that! Take the time to grow your identity, connect to that part of yourself, and work to heal the ways in which that lack of connection has impacted you.

Just don't do it out of fear of the people who aren't just like you, and try not to limit yourself to one community, or one type of person, exclusively.

You are a multifaceted person, and even the trans community itself is incredibly diverse; you will likely find, if you take the time to listen, that a lot of transfems and unaligned nb folks share a lot of the same experiences, too! Even ones connected to manhood, masculinity, or our perceived inability to be autonomous.

And honestly, it sounds like you know all this already- and like you're maybe afraid you have the wrong intentions, or you might mess up, even if you're honestly just trying your best.

Feel free to disregard this bit if I'm wrong, but if I'm not: trust yourself. Trust that you do not have secret, evil intentions or hatred hidden even from yourself. Trust that if you mess up, you will do your best to correct it when you find out about it. You're doing fine, anon, you don't need to be hypervigilant about your own thoughts and feelings. And maybe you'll find that if you can work towards that goal, you'll start to worry a lot less about Becoming A Toxic Asshole for, like, correctly identifying the kernel of reasonable motivation that lead to someone else's wrong conclusion.

worth noting i think theres a few traits that are pretty universal to them? wants to do right and full of love are the big two, tho curiosity, (seeming) warmth, and ability to fit in w/those around them are also pretty important tho i think more flexible. its just fun the way various sols can have those traits like.... manifest? an alien-hater sol who goes hunting all the time is just as valid as a sol dating dys that wants to end the war. just different ppl they love and different experiences. its fun

1) solana (she/her (demi?)girl, loyalty leaning lawyer, neutral end)

baby’s first run! outwardly warm but pretty cold inside. hypercompetent everywhere except in her love life. fell for tang when they were like nine on the ship and just sort of, never stopped, feeling that way, including when she was 100 years old and had outlived tang by nearly forty years, partially bc fixating on tang as people were dying was kind of. the only solace she had. wouldve really benefited from a good therapist.

2) solanaceae (he/him tguy, governor, peace ending)

childhood optimist with a hero complex turned "realist” but actually-exactly-the-same-just-depressed-about-it adult. saves tammy and tonin and hal! cannot save his parents :) grows a little distant from most of the people around him as a result, except dys, who Gets it. avoids tang for pretty much no reason he can understand, just has a sense of She Will Hurt You If You Get Too Close when he sees her sometimes. becomes governor solely bc he wants to save people. the kind of person you can trust in your house with your keys and your valuables and then someone asks ‘hey whats his favorite color’ and youre like. i dont. actually know

3) solane (they/them nb, gardener ending)

manic overconfident freak. definitely a ‘i wont tell people about my dreams bc it’s like i’m a HERO this way!’ type. saves everyone and extremely proud about it. coasting through life from ages 14-19 until they go find dys after the bomb has gone off and he’s dating. someone else? which makes them freak out bc THEYRE the hero. so instead of being normal about this they become a gardener in a desperate attempt not to be left behind

this is the one ive been referring to in private as “fascist manwhore sol” and honestly. yeah. just as overconfident as the last but extremely charming about it. the kind of guy you kinda wanna hit but also can’t help but like? somehow manages to be close w/most everyone in the colony despite their various opinions. really really hates the gardeners + even sym, for some reason w/in himself that he can’t explain. 

in Love with dys for most of their lives but cant ever make it work, fwb with rex, dates vace despite having matching tattoos with his ex-gf. hes just that kind of guy. dies young and a hero, less than a year after dys disappears into the ridges. dont think abt it too hard.

5) solane (she/her nb, neutral end, roboticist on accident somehow but a social skills job wouldve fit much better)

if third sol Thinks theyre god this sol like. actually Is. extremely clear dreams, used to talk abt them pretty much always until her first trip to medbay, at which point she stopped ever letting adults know. kind of existentially exhausted as a result. using this life literally just as a coffeeshop au lol. poly but also probably aromantic; open rship w/rex, who they love a lot but no more so than literally any of their other friends. pretty happy with stuff! 

until they go to see dys off when he “vanishes” from the colony and they accidentally let it drop they couldve like. ended the whole war. he’s. displeased. they still make an effort to enjoy the rest of their life but when they die theyre thinking abt how they should try to be a better person next time. and also hoping they remember less.

6) solanaceae (genderfluid but generally refers to self as a lesbian, peace end, botanist) x

cheerful heroine! desperately wants to be normal and tries so so hard to ignore her dreams, which works kind of, right up until they very purposefully ignores the one abt tammy and tammy dies immediately after :) at which point they completely switches gears and uses their dreams to try and save Everyone they can. bffs with nem since childhood & into her pretty much Always. everyone’s friend! dies content and at peace.

interestingly, bc this is the route where i got paradox ending on a save, probably the sol closest to the wormhole + everything about it, despite not actually remembering much from his dreams. it manifests in other ways. lol.

7) solane (she/her cisgirl, neutral end, roboticist)

coward who can only be brave when it’s for the sake of the people she loves, most notably tammy who she actually dislikes until she saves her life, at which point she realizes maybe she Can be a hero too. better with robots than people, spent most of her childhood following cal around bc he was one of hte only ppl to make time for her. falls madly in love w/tammy; their family is her biggest joy. a good parent.

8) solanaceae (he/him agender, neutral end, doctor)

feral intense child who becomes a terrifying eagle-eyed doctor. max perception by age eleven, somehow. STRONG sense of justice. strongest belief is “if you ignore someone you couldve saved, you’re garbage.” not quite high enough friendship w/nem to convince her to leave vace as teens; helps her later on when theyre adults. years and years later after dys “dies” they end up moving in and spend the rest of their lives together.

9) solanaceae (they/them nb, peace end, entertainer)

awkward ace kid who always speaks their mind. accidentally destroys tammy’s confidence every time they talk. gets confessed to by both marz and rex, shoots them down extremely awkwardly due to both aforementioned asexuality and the fact theyve had a crush on dys since they were thirteen. takes their promise to let him go seriously to the point that when he tries to bomb hte colony, they let him, and when he wants to be a gardener, they don’t stand in his way. is alright with this at first but slowly begins to feel lonelier and lonelier about it as time passes, and when they die and realize they won’t actually be with him again they feel. Very Bad. pass on wishing they’d not let him go but resenting him for asking to.

10) solane (she/her cisgirl, neutral end, xeno wrangler)

ive been calling this one “cuckoo bird sol” for a reason. desperately wants someone to be devoted to Her and Her Alone who Won’t Leave, and feels like. cal is good for that. doesn’t like tammy as a result, which means that when she has a nightmare abt tammy dying she doesn't even care, it’s not like its REAL. yeah. It’s Bad! she feels guilty abt it and then feels bad bc she’s also happy bc cal spends more time with her but also she does sure feel like shes competing against a dead girl huh! so! that’s fun!

eventually she does work her shit out and realize she does like cal himself and does want kids on her own terms but like. the process of getting there! one fucked up kid. dies more content than she realized she could be, glad for her family.

11) solanaceae (she/her nb leaning, peace end, parent) x

rowdy. her heart is 80% love and 20% pure unadulterated rage. unaugmented, which she personally doesnt care abt, but she sure does get pissed off at ppl trying to be soooo nice to her abt it! too busy w/sfc stuff during wet and as such completely misses her chance to talk dys out of the bomb. when she finds him on the ridges afterwards they yell at each other abt being in love w/each other for forever and she manages to drag him back home.

in some ways this would be my “golden run” (full friendship with everyone) (jesus christ) but despite that her actual bffs besides dys are tammy and (unfortunately) vace. in another world i would retcon this to ot3 but in this one she kissed sym and then he died in front of her and despite herself she kind of cant stop flinching away from him now if he tries to make a move. they do hinge poly instead it works. has a boatload of kids and never augments any of them. dies exhausted and delighted and in love w/the world. 

12) solane (he/him cisguy, peace ending, parent oops)

delusion run! sol who cant stop talking abt his delusions even when he knows he should. pursues dys in the “we were In Love before so we will be again!” way not the “i like you!” way until he gets. y’know. lobotomized. in some ways not focusing on his dreams is good for him but also he loses a lot of his personality? focus? afterwards

teases tammy relentlessly but ends up falling for her but bc for some reason this run glitched and tammy’s pregnancy just. kept going. she never had the kid? so i didnt date her even tho he wouldve lol. tbh most of th ending for this one is what id consider noncanon for him but ill retcon it later when i have more Vibes in place

unlucky number thirteen :) sol coming out of a delusion run with the creeping sense that they should not trust Anyone with their secrets. a little disconnected from the ppl around them tho they get on well enough w/dys and tang. madly in love with the wormhole. desperate to get off the planet and back into space so they can see it, a sentiment no one shares until, y’know. vace.

in Love (lol) with him after his 50. first time theyve ever met anyone they think Gets them so they enable him. fucking crushed when he starts dating nem. when he offers to cheat they take him up on it, which means he learns nothing and they lose one of their childhood friends :) eventually they go into space together just like they wanted! it’s bad! die in the wormhole and i think thats the first time they ever truly, from the bottom of their heart, regret everything. never want to fall in love again.

i think transmasc kiana & fu hua being tagged as f/f is fine. nonbinary people are ultimately included in all types of relationships. you can be a lesbian and date a nonbinary person and you can be a gay man and date a nonbinary person because nonbinary doesn't mean a third gender or "something other than cis female cis male". it just means something not in the gender binary. and the term includes such a large group of identities with their own types and subtypes that a relationship including a enby person will be hard to define as just "other"/nblw/nblm. and some nonbinary individuals might identify more with calling themselves wlw/mlm than they do nblw/nblm and therefore lean more towards "f/f" and "m/m" than "other" either. it all depends on the person because gender is complicated. not to mention, when people search for fics, nobody searches for "other", it's either one of the three and since kiana is canonically female, that's what it would be tagged as. there's also the fact that kiana is also canonically a lesbian, and a lot of these authors hc kiana as a transmasc lesbian so tagging it as f/m might imply that they see kiana and whichever character they ship kiana with as heterosexual, when it's not the case.

i personally don't like how the f/f m/m f/m other categories on ao3 are used. i don't like the idea of classifying relationships by gender (especially one by the gender binary, with an exception made for nonbinary that ultimately does nothing but reinforce nonbinary identity as a third gender or an exception to the binary) when gender is already so complicated. however, in one of my fandoms, there's a ship between two characters who are canonically genderfluid, but depending on the characters presentation in the fic, author will tag it as either f/f, m/m, or f/m. i personally like how these authors use these categories for presentation and expression, not gender itself, and i think this should be how the categories are used instead! and i think if we are going by presentation and expression then i think it should be tagged as f/m, but unfortunately most of ao3 doesn't work that way so it's understandable why transmasc kiana authors might tag it as f/f instead.

all of this is just what i think as a transmasc person though. other people might have their own opinions and interpretations.

Mmm I hear you, and honestly I agree with your final conclusion. Going by presentation or what the characters in-story express their genders are seem to yield the best result since it synchronizes the tagging and the reader experience.

You’re right that the category system isn’t nuanced enough to really cover queerness properly. Personally though, I think it’s serviceable enough (and the following is a big reason why I dislike the current way those fics are tagged):

F/F doesn’t mean lesbians.

If it did mean “this is a lesbian relationship” you would tag two bi women something different. It just means “character A and B fall under an F category, and they’re in a romantic or sexual relationship”. It doesn’t even mean wlw, technically— you would tag something F/F even if they’re two straight women forced to kiss.

All F/F does is roughly categorize the gender of the characters involved, NOT the relationship itself. Does that mean it misses particular nuances? Yes. But in the cases where a binary isn’t enough I think “Other” is fine. AO3 needs broad and imprecise categories to work correctly, like its tags.

Regarding “Other”. That’s only my personal opinion of course but unlike you, I find it validating to have that “whatever doesn’t fit a binary, anything you want” category. What else could be used? A more specific category like “NB/F” would be much more third gender sounding than “Other” is. I can’t think of a better way to implement it while keeping this functionality.

As for “Nobody searches for Other fics” I disagree. I routinely exclude stuff I don’t like from my searches, so I’d filter out M/M because there’s tons of it, but I never exclude Other because it has a chance of being something I’ll enjoy, and since there’s usually less of it, it doesn’t spam my results anyway.

On the flip side, if someone is looking for F/F fics specifically I think it’s fair for them to exclude ships that don’t fit that category because it’s what they’re looking for. I get squicked by those Transmasc Kiana fics so I bonk them out of existence based on the Transmasc Kiana tag, but I know I’m not the only one with a negative experience like “cool, F/F— ah shit it’s not actually that :(”. In my eyes, misleading categorization serves no one and just builds resentment :/

Of course I assume that it’s not misleading in the eyes of the author, they’re not doing anything really wrong, it’s just that to me and other people I’ve talked to, the lived experience is being mislead. You can’t trust the big bright category icon anymore, gotta pre-emptively filter a certain tag out. What’s categorized just isn’t what you get.

This especially sucks when you read a sequel to something where they decided to change Kiana’s presentation in a timeskip, why would I recheck the tags on something I trusted? It’s just… been endlessly getting smacked with squick for me and it sucks. If that wasn’t my experience I would not care, but it’s reached then point where I need to know what other people are thinking, so here we are.

Additionally, I don’t think the category matters much if what you’re looking for is more people seeing it. If that’s a factor it’s not worth it. AO3 isn’t social media, it’s an archive: people should be able to find exactly what they’re looking for. Do your advertisement on separate social media, not AO3 itself.

Besides, I saw that the author in the comment defined their Kiana as “Non-binary masc person”. So it’s not just that the presentation is masculine, the gender is explicitly nb. As a non-binary person I really wouldn’t want to be put under F, even if I fall quite close to feminine presentation and such, so I really can’t relate to wanting to have it tagged as F when the character is transmasc. If it was a term I used I would probably fall under transfem myself and I still wouldn’t want myself tagged as F. I would find that distressing.

I’m glad it’s non-issue for most other people including that author, but @muntiller2 has also shared a similar sentiment from a different gender situation so my perspective isn’t unique either.

So these are reasons why I disagree with the author and a couple things you said; your opinion is valid and I agree with you on several other points, anon.

Hi! I know you’re not a stand-in for all gc people and don’t expect you to speak on behalf of all of us but I’ve been wondering for months now what the stance is on tifs— in my experience, I’ve tried to engage with other terfs on this allied basis against all males, but I’ve personally never really taken issue with women/females who want to transition or change pronouns, which is typically where I find a division. Obviously I think they/thems are annoying and egregious most of the time, but I’ve found it really perturbing how much vitriol I’ve seen towards tifs from some terfs, I’ve seen some calling them stupid or deranged or brainwashed, things of that nature. Have you seen this pattern? How do you feel about it? My best personal/irl (and most effective) activism has always been talking to tifs actually, and getting them to see how the trans women in their lives treat them, how they perpetuate violence (particularly as tifs are often subjected to more tw attention and fetishism, and often effectively groomed into submission under the guise of “T4T”). But I love women and I feel like tifs in whatever form shouldn’t be hated or criticized this much (yes I recognize I’m calling them women even if they would not, irl I do my best to respect how they want to be referred to as and treated). So my view is heavily shaped by the TIFs I have been good friends with for a long while and many encounters I’ve had online. As you said, I’m not a stand-in for all GC and my views are on the more sympathetic end as things go. I’m mostly in the same boat as you and have found that TIFs can generally be split into three categories.

Internalised misogyny/Internalised homophobia/Trauma: These three categories overlap heavily so it’s impossible to split them apart. Internalised misogyny/homophobia and/or trauma has led these women to identify as NB or trans in order to become ‘trans and straight’ or to escape the restrictions that they feel as women. The sad thing is that this probably makes up most TIFs and they will never analyse where some of these feelings are coming from because the hate for their bodies and womanhood is validated by the trans community as proof of them being trans. These women are struggling and often dress more androgynously because they think that gets them further away from ‘being a woman’. I have so much sympathy for these women, even if many of them still tow the trans party line and are assholes sometimes. They’re still struggling nonetheless.

Trendy Q*eer Girl(TM): Can cross other with either of the other categories, but also distinct enough to give it its own category. The trans q*eer girl is basically just the ‘I’m not like other girls’ but instead of doing it to impress the boys, does it to impress other q*eer people because they see being q*eer as a cool trend that they want in on. Often straight and if not straight then identifies as bisexual or pansexual but has (almost) exclusively been with men. Uses things like ‘loves iced coffee and energy drinks’ as proof of their q*eer status because obviously you can only like things like that if you’re q*eer, right? Annoying as fuck but sometimes does have trauma and internalised misogyny behind it so I have some sympathy, but not a lot for the people who treat our identities as little more than a trend.

Fetishiser: Rarer but certainly becoming more common and incredibly toxic. The fetishisers are typically trans men who date (or want to date) gay men and love yaoi (or whatever it’s called) and from that have developed an obsession over gay men to the point of convincing themselves that they themselves are actually gay men. It is creepy and weird and this group, even though they can struggle and have issues which led to this, deserve to be called out to no end. These are the people who are helping to normalise ‘genital preference’ and not being allowed to reject someone just because they’re trans, but focus more of their energy on gay men than lesbians. They are deeply homophobic.

As I said, I have an incredible amount of sympathy for many TIFs who are obviously struggling and it’s sad to see other radfems attack them so harshly and so often. They should definitely be called out on their toxic, homophobic, and misogynistic views, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t recognise that so many of these women are just struggling and doing their best to cope with their issues. Baselessly attacking them because people want to group together all trans people as being the problem when that’s not the issue does absolutely nothing for our cause and, if anything, continues to drive women away from radical feminism.

Why does so much of our sympathy go out of the window when people disagree with us? When did we stop fighting for the rights and protections of all women and decide that actually only the women in the fight with us need help and protection?

Idk I think Taylor's a nice person. I think she's talented and charming and funny and I'm not surprised she has so many people that like her because she does nice things for fans, and friends and is generous in her personal life it's just the nice is different than good. Because I’m having questions about mine.

For context, I’m currently a cis woman of color, I’m from Indonesia. And I can’t help but wonder if this line of questioning is coming from my failures to conform to my assigned gender. Now I’m not saying this is the case for everyone, I’m not even saying it is my main reason BUT I’m saying it might play a role.

To start with, there’s my appearance. I’m tall (1.68, Asian standards standards), on the thicker side (keep in mind, Asian standards), and I have dark skin. Indonesians come in all shades (literally all of them) but my peers would say I’m dark. So I am in complete contrast with the ideal Asian woman, which is petit, fair, and short. I don’t like to admit it, but these standards do get to me. I stick out like a sore thumb. I’m tall and wide compared to my smaller friends and it has always been that way since I was a kid.

It can be very hard for me to feel beautiful. Now I know, body neutrality is a thing that can be practiced in these scenarios but not feeling femininely beautiful can get to you. I date a lot and despite praises from numerous partners I have a very hard time telling myself I’m good looking. Colorism be damned.

There was a time I did feel a lot better than I do, a moment of clarity. When I started highschool I cut my hair super short because I was finally going to a more liberal school where I could take of my hijab. Instead of people avoiding me, I got compliments all the time. I loved dressing handsome when I could (we had to wear uniforms to school :/) and my female peers would just tell me how handsome I was. It felt really good. Well maybe because I also like girls, which adds another point to the “not conforming to the heteronormative notion of the female gender list”.

But like, I didn’t always want to be masculine even at the time. Right now, I’m discovering the magic of skirts and dresses, I love dressing feminine! But sometimes I just find myself wanting to erase every speck of femininity on my body. Which is harder than it used to be.

So as you can see it's quite the conundrum. I don't really need pronouns because the language i speak daily doesn't have gendered third person pronouns and in English it isn't really significant? But i guess i like the idea of they/them or she/they

uncommon*: latine (sometimes afro-latine) amab nb lesbian pyro, not that it comes up often. i generally don’t go to the trouble of explaining identities of characters, because it doesn’t come up organically in fic, and honestly, doesn’t come up in real life! maybe i just mind my own business a little too hard, but i don’t tend to ask questions so much as encourage people to share things freely, and so my characters don’t tend to interrogate without good cause. but assume that much of the time when i’m writing pyro, that’s how i imagine them, i just also imagine the other mercs to have like… manners.

controversial: asexual biromantic scout who wants kids and has a bit of a people pleasing complex and so hasn’t figured out that he doesn’t actually care about sex in the slightest and actually kind of feels annoyed by it, he just really likes literally every romance cliché and has a medium-high sex drive from how much exercise he does in his free time. gritting-his-teeth mildly-sex-repulsed but loves love stories scout. my problem is i also often write trans scout and those headcanons refuse to overlap for me (at least in part because consciously i tend to give trans!scout more confidence in all areas of his life, and the trope ‘uwu trans baby boy never dated before umu be nice pwease…’ makes me wanna scratch my eyes out, so…)

not necessarily gonna die on either of those hills, to be honest. pyro exists in fandom space as a character to have a lot of fun making very different headcanon for, and scout’s relationship with love and romance is, uh, kind of a touchy subject for some people who find him relatable and have romance as a touchy subject for themselves. but that’s where i’m at.

for the record i also tend to aspec my sniper, which leads to a lot of me writing scout and sniper as QPPs unintentionally when i’m not thinking about it. not apologizing, because honestly that relationship has a lot of chemistry and is fun to write and i only get made fun of by people who know me personally a little bit

*(ive actually been seeing a lot of latino pyro in recent years, which is cool, and trans pyro has been a dominant thought basically since they were invented. not sure how much of the recent resurgence is my fault for leaning into it super hard a few times now in different ficlets. personally i just headcanon them from northern mexico but i’ve seen a lot of cool variation, which is exciting. branching out, tf2 fandom, no worries, i see you! and i’m proud!)

A/N: thank you so much for the request. This was honestly very enjoyable to write. I hope I did your prompt justice and that you liked it!

After a successful match for AFC Richmond, it was time for a press meeting. And Jamie, who had scored the winning goal, was up next. You were in the crowd, close to the back to not draw much attention. This was about him after all. But you did want to be there to support him.

You were always supportive of him, being by his side through a lot. And until recently no one knew about the nature of your relationship. But recently some tabloid articles had started circulating. You weren’t a well-known person. Not famous by any means. So there wasn’t a lot out there about you. So you figured it was only a matter of time until people started asking. You almost didn’t want to be in the press room for this very reason, but you stuck it out for Jamie.

The first few questions started rolling in, pretty tame and mostly about his match performance. “How did that play come about?” “What’s next for Richmond?” “What’s next for you?” All the standard questions asked at these kinds of things. And he answered them perfectly, at least you thought he did.

But then someone had a different question.

“What do you have to say about the dating rumors revolving around you and an unnamed guy?” A journalist asked and you could feel yourself deflate.

“First off, they aren’t a guy. Second off, my private life is private.” He shrugged. You kept your head down even more, definitely not wanting to be noticed now.

More hands went up and you could tell he was a little annoyed. But he kept going anyway. He pointed to another reporter.

“So you are seeing someone? Is she another athlete or well-known in other areas?” The reporter asked.

“Again, I’m not going to speak about this. I’m not even sure if they want to be associated with me.” He shrugged. You almost laughed. Of course you’d want to be associated with him. But you loved that he wasn’t speaking for you. You hadn’t really talked about making your relationship public but you wouldn’t be opposed. It was just a lot to be known in the public eye for something like that.

“So you and her aren’t on good terms?” The same reporter asked. Jamie frowned.

“Their pronouns are they/them. Don’t be a dick about it.” Jamie said. You couldn’t see the reporter’s response to it, but it obviously wasn’t good, as Jamie continued talking. “Alright, get this guy out of here.” Jamie said. Soon after, the man was escorted out.

You were shocked but didn’t say anything. You didn’t want anyone to see you.

“Anyone have anything else to say?” Jamie said, testy with the crowd. But the crowd was silent. The next few questions went back to football. You were more than relieved at that.

As the media junket finished up, you made your way over to Jamie and he walked with you out of the media room. He didn’t seem the least bit surprised to see you there.

“Pretty eventful.” You commented once you were alone.

“I don’t like people being shitty towards you.” He shrugged and you kissed him. He was sweeter than he gave himself credit for, you were sure of that. He was a lot more than he gave himself credit for.

“Well thank you, I appreciate it. And about everything, I don’t care if we go public or if we don’t. I’m fine with either. As long as you're comfortable.” You said.

“I was going to say the same thing. As long as you’re comfortable.” He said.

“Then how about we just don’t do anything about it. Act normal. Who really cares?” You offered. He nodded.

“I like that idea.” He smiled at you, taking your hand in his. You both made your way out of the stadium after saying your proper goodbyes and getting everything you needed.

You didn’t care who saw you as you walked hand in hand. People would think what they wanted. As long as you had Jamie by your side you wouldn’t care.
