The Light of a Golden Moon
Chapter 27: The Light of a Golden Moon
Tía Pepa ftw.
The Light of a Golden Moon
Pepa sat with her husband on the sofa in their room. Félix was unusually gloomy since returning to Casita so Pepa recounted the story of Antonio’s judging of game the kids had been playing earlier. This at least elicited a smile and grunt from him. It was clear he had other things on his mind.
“Tell what you’re thinking, mi amor,” Pepa said as she stretched out on the sofa laying her head in his lap.
“I’m not really thinking, I’m remembering,” he said and gently stroked her hair.
“Oh?”
He nodded and then said, “I was almost three when we fled the village and I truthfully don’t remember much about that place. But the flight through the forest and across the river. The running. The feelings of impending doom, the sounds and smell of it…that’s what I got from the people we talked to tonight. Bits and pieces of that fear. Something terrible is happening outside.
Pepa looked up at the cloud forming above them. She did not want Félix to have to deal with that right now. Irritated, she blew at it as if it were a candle and the cloud immediately dissipated. Pepa just stared at the spot the cloud had recently vacated and caught Félix’s startled expression.
“You’ve learned something new, Corazón?” He asked still stroking her hair, “I like the tiny rainbows at the end, mi vida, nice touch.”
Pepa’s brow furrowed as she remembered the first time she’d done that. She was stuck at home with Mirabel just before Antonio was born. She’d fainted while working and Julieta told their mother, in no uncertain terms, there would be no work for her until the baby came. Her mother conceded but, only just, and had pulled Mira from school to wait on her. Now that Pepa thought about it, that happened far more than it should have. In fact, that week before Antonio came, the kids were getting ready for the spring festival. Mira was supposed to be playing her guitar in the school’s annual talent show. Camilo wasn’t participating that year as he was finishing schoolwork, he’d put off to play fútbol. Mira was sitting near a window looking out at the Encanto and could see the trees starting to bend in the winds she was inadvertently causing because of a contraction she was having.
“Are you alright Tía Pepa? Should I get Mamá?”
“No Mira, just a reminder of what’s to come.” Pepa closed her eyes and took a deep breath as the baby rolled.
“Oh, can I get you anything?”
“No, no,” she said as she twisted into a more comfortable position, “but why don’t you play the song you’ve been practicing? You have such a beautiful singing voice. Maybe it will settle this one,” she said pointing at her stomach. “I’ve only heard bits of it and I think I would love to hear you sing it all, if you don’t mind.”
Mira’s brow furrowed but she quickly stowed that away, smiled as she nodded and picked up her guitar.
“Ah that’s better,” Pepa said when she finished. “Mira, that was delightful. Put this little one right to sleep.”
“Thanks, Tía,” Mirabel said as she set the guitar down.
“Did your Mamá teach you that song?”
“No, I learned it from Abuela, she used to sing it to me when I was little and it just kinda stuck with me.”
More likely, Pepa thought, it was one of the last good memories she had of her Abuela. Pepa waved for Mirabel to come closer. She dutifully came over and knelt next to her. Pepa stroked Mira’s hair, she looked so much like her brother with Juli’s nose and said quite seriously, “Mira, are you really gonna be okay with there being a baby being in the nursery with you?”
Mirabel bit her lip but again she shrugged as she smiled and said, “Sure, I mean, I kinda always wanted a younger brother or sister…”
Pepa saw the hesitation when she answered that gave proof to the lie, but said, “I’m sure this little one will adore you completely. You’re sure to be their prima mayor perfecta.” Mira blushed and Pepa wondered then if Casita could create another room without the door already being there. Truth was nobody ever asked, or more rightly, Mamá never asked. “Well, I’m going make you a promise Corazón. I’ll keep this one,” she said as she waived a hand over her stomach, “in my room until I’m well and sure they will be able to sleep through the night. All you have to do is teach me that song, deal?”
Mirabel smiled and nodded. She picked up her guitar and sat on a cushion near where Pepa was sprawled on the sofa and played the first few chords. Pepa knew the song, but now, at least, her sobrina was no longer moping near the window, wishing she were anywhere else but here. Her irritation with her mother was causing a cloud to form above them and not wanting to get Mira all wet, Pepa blew at it, trying to shoo it away and was amazed when it immediately dissipated. She’d have to remember that trick. She smiled at Mira’s expression of wonder at that small feat of control and said, “Wow, that was amazing Tía. Didja see? Right at the end, there were tiny rainbows chasing away the cloud.”
Pepa came out of her memory when she heard her husband ask, “Pepi, you still in there?”
“Hmmm? Oh, sorry Félix, just remembered something.” Pepa got off the sofa and Félix did as well. “Hopefully tomorrow will give some better answers than we found tonight.”

in general i like julieta and agustin being mirabel’s parents just fine since they are good parents but honestly if i have to read an au about mirabel being pepa or bruno’s, i’d rather have her be bruno’s at this point

I remember seeing something in your tags where you said you had a few ideas for episodes for the Encanto series. Do you mind sharing them with me? if you want of course. (I've already written the basic premise for seasons 1-4 but I'm happy to hear any ideas you got)
ooh of course! these are just some brainstormed thoughts nothing substantial but
- mirabel gets her new room (because we didn’t see it in the movie)
- julieta cooking with her daughters as a bonding exercise
- bruno goes out into the town with his sisters and they talk to the townspeople about everything
- mirabels having nightmares/flashbacks of casita falling on her and starts thinking there’s cracks everywhere
- antonio and Dolores doing literally anything I love them
- alma falls back into old habits but the family’s there to steer her in the right direction
- luisa gets a fun part in her room! (Based on the concept art)
- the husbands + bruno have a boys night out !
- isa and Dolores have a heart to heart when they plan to spend the day together
- camilo and Bruno put on a play for the whole community and the whole family helps!
- pepa brings bruno around to try new things since he’s missed so much
- madrigal grandkids have a sleepover
- triplets flashback to when they first get their gifts and it’s the first week of absolute CHAOS in the encanto
- day of little candles themed ep where alma and the family go to the river and alma tells them all about pedro (maybe a flashback to life before dos oruguitas)
- isabela adjusting to her new identity and the villagers still subconsciously think of her as her “perfect” version
- someones birthday and the family throw the best party ever
- mirabel and bruno reflect on what’s changed and how the future can be scary
- this one’s entirely self indulgent but mirabel goes to the local seamstress to get advice and ends up being taken on board as an assistant
- camilo and Marco get all the town kids to partake in the ultimate encanto football match
- luisa having a day off where the family do everything for her (she deserves it)
- christmas ep because why not!
- flashback to grandkids as younger for some preteen Dolores and isa moments
- antonio starts school and is super nervous and struggles a bit but he has his family for support
- mirabel not being used to having attention on her all the time and feeling like she has to live up to new expectations because she’s “the miracle” (this isn’t her being a leader or anything this is literally just her brain assuming they expect stuff from her)
- triplets bday!! (Can be from any time)
- mirabel and Antonio have a picnic
- Dolores and Mariano get a date set up for them by camilo
- madrigal sisters talk about their feelings from when mirabel went missing
- agustin and julieta have an anniversary coming up so agustin wants to make it the most special ever (shenanigans insue)
- pepa and felix go out for the night and pepa is insanely talented on the dance floor
- all the parents go away and Bruno is left to babysit
- isabela wants to make some friends after not having many due to her wanting to keep up appearances
- Dolores wants a new outfit and goes to mirabel for help
- luisa stands up to the donkey man
- julieta and alma moments
I cant think of more on the spot so if anyone wants to leave suggestions in comments!

In Encanto/Owl House AU, how does the Madrigals feel about being students at Hexside?
(For context in this Au, Mirabel and Camilo are 14, Luisa is 16, Isabela and Dolores are 17 or 18. Antonio is still 5. The reason for this is because I wanted all the grandkids attending Hexide at the same time)
They all like being students at Hexide (or so they all say) except for Mirabel. She's spent every year the last nine years (assuming you enter Hexide as age 5) switching tracks and feels unable to master any. She doesn't know what track she wants to study and feels restricted only being allowed to study one.
But anytime she brings up the idea of studying more than one track, her family always responds with something along the lines of "That's what your uncle Bruno said. There's a reason we don't talk about him 🤨"
Isabela is the star student like Amity, and is annoyed at being related to Mirabel who's known for being bad at everytrack (same dynamic Amity and Willow before the events on the show). Also similar to Amity, Isabela intends to try out for the Emporer's Coven. Not because she wants to but because Abuela wants her too.
When they were younger, Alma pressured the Triplets to try out for the Emporer's Coven. Bruno, who used to be the golden child of the family, came close. But later on realized how unfair the Coven System is and ran away to become a wild witch. And now Alma pushes the same expectations she had on her kids onto her grandkids, especially Isabela, which is secretly making her miserable.
After 9 years of going through every single track and her family dismissing her idea of studying more than one. Mirabel decides to actually seek Bruno out. It turns out he's not actually as scary and dangerous and everyone (including his Wanted posters) made him seem. (He's not a cool criminal like Eda)
He's kinda pathetic and literally just wants to be left alone to study all types of magic. Mirabel reveals she's his niece (he left before she was born) and convinces him to teach her all types of magic.

Tía Y/N (Madrigal triplets & Reader) part 2
Tumblr media
Part 1
_____________________
"GET OUT OF MY WAY!"
"I WASN’T EVEN PART OF THIS!"
"FÉLIX, I WANT A DIVORCE!"
"JULIETA, COME BACK HERE!"
“YES JULI, COME BACK!
“NEVER!”
“SHE DOESN’T HIT YOU THAT HARD!”
"BETTER YOU THAN ME!"
“YOU’RE THE ELDEST! YOU HAVE TO SACRIFICE FOR YOUR BABY SIBLINGS”
“I KNOW NO SIBLINGS BUT THE ONE WITH THE CHANCLA BEHIND US, YOU’RE ON YOUR OWN”
“JULIETAAAAAAAA”
Alma tried not to laugh and maintain a serious face, but it was quite difficult when her triplets, all 50 years old with their own families, ran as a soul that the devil carries to avoid what everyone is afraid of: la chancla.
She didn't really know what was happening, it had been a quiet and normal morning, with the whole family taking a day off to enjoy each other's company. She had been embroidering with Mirabel in the living room (she did it more and more often, in an attempt to fix the relationship with her younger granddaughter), when Isabela and Camilo had entered laughing out loud, with Felix and Luisa smiling behind them.
They did not even have time to ask what happened before three green, yellow and blue spots flew next to them, with a very angry Y/N yelling from upstairs.
Alma was no fool, she knew that you, her eldest daughter and the one who reminded her most of Pedro (at least in appearance), had long taken the role that corresponded to her in the life of the triplets. On the one hand, she was happy they had you, but on the other it hurt her heart and guilt consumed her for knowing that she was never really present in her children's life to the point where they had to turn to you for help.
She never knew when Bruno had told you that he didn't want to have his own family, that he was not interested in having a partner of any kind. She wasn't present when Pepa had run to you on the first day of her period, or in the long night talks about crushes when she met Félix. She didn't even know that Julieta liked women too.
Just a few months ago she had discovered that Pepa calmed down when she was caressed, that Bruno liked to play the guitar or that Julieta loved painting and that the beautiful pictures in your room were made by her. In truth, she didn't know her own children. But you did.
You had been with them on every step of the road, even when they took different paths, you had never let them be lost for a long time. A task that you later performed with the grandchildren as well. Isabela and Dolores had learned to walk with you, Luisa always looked up to you especially when she had a problem, Camilo told you the secrets that he could never tell his parents, Antonio still followed you around all day when he was feeling sad and Mirabel...for the girl you were the whole world. There was absolutely nothing that she didn't tell you.
You were the only other family member besides her grandmother who didn't have a gift, you understood what it was to grow up with magical siblings when there was nothing special in you, you understood the looks of people's judgment, murmurs and teasing. That was why you had made your special mission to make the girl protected from all that.
Little by little, you wove a warm blanket of love and humility, you taught her that she did not need to have a gift to be a light, to shine and be a source of comfort. Mirabel could be identical to Julieta in appearance, but she was definitely a coal copy of you in everything else.
It took her too long to realize it, but now Alma understood that the miracle, the magic, was not what united them, that it was only a feature that most of them shared and nothing else. The answer was you. Really, you were the angel who kept the family together.
...And that's why no one should mess with you, unless they wanted all of heaven's strength chasing them. Or that it was one of the triplets. 50 years and they had not yet learned not to make you angry? Or perhaps it was their way of getting your attention when they felt you were abandoning them for the grandchildren.
A silly thought perhaps, but children will always be children, and the age did not matter, they would always need even if it was just a hug from their mother. And you were definitely the triplets' mother, no matter how much it hurt her.
"What do you think happened?" Mirabel whispered, taking her out of her thoughts
"I don't know" Alma smiled "but it must have been bad if your mother is running too"
It was true. Of the three, Julieta was usually the one that was spared from your fury. It was no secret to anyone that she was your favorite sister/daughter/family/person, despite Pepa and Bruno's anger, who would always get offended when her sister avoided your scolding.
"What about Julieta?! She also helped with the joke!" they would said
"Maybe, but she looks cute doing it" you'd shrug "besides, who could be mad at this precious face?" You would add while taking your sister by the cheeks
Your younger siblings would cross their arms and looked at you with an annoyed pout while a black cloud hovered on the redhead, and Julieta simply let you use her cheeks as a squishy and fill her face with kisses (something she took from you and did with her niece, nephews and daughters too), while she smirked at them.
The only times she actually got scolded was when she wasn't taking care of her own health. So either Julieta just wanted to do exercise or whatever the hell they did was really stupid and dangerous.
"YOU'RE ALL SO GROUNDED!!" You growled when you managed to get to the first floor.
You cursed Casita for siding with the triplets and letting them run while it trapped you on the second floor, but that didn't mean they were safe. Nope, there was no escape.
"What happened, mija?" Alma asked you walking up to you
"Your mocosos share the same fried brain cell and unfortunately for them, it wasn't Julieta's turn to have It" you growled
Your mother laughed and rolled her eyes fondly. She knew that you loved your siblings more than anything and that any insult you might have for them would never come out of the heart, just from a motherly anger, and there was something she could think that this was about.
"Did they try to test Julieta's gift with poisoned food again?" She asked
"They tried to test my patience" you answered "they used arsenic, mom. ARSENIC!"
Okay, that was new. Alma felt bad for thinking it, but she could have expected something that stupid and irresponsible from Pepa and Bruno, but Julieta? She knew better than that, she wasn't a silly girl who didn't know what arsenic could do. She must have been really desperate to get your attention if she let her siblings drag her into that.
"How are they even alive?" She gasped
"Félix caught them before they could even finish the empanadas and ran to tell me" you sighed "and I'm glad he did"
"Of course, I don't want to thinking what could have happened to them"
"And because now I can kill them myself"
Alma looked at you for a moment. You were frowning and looked ready to hit whoever stood in front of you, but she was still your mother and she could see the fear in your eyes, and honestly, she felt it too. She followed your gaze to see her younger children still running and she made a note to scold them right after you.
You felt your mom's aura changing and knew she was on your side, so you smirked and took your sandal with a single move, your eyes never leaving your adorably stupid siblings.
"Who do you want me to hit?" You asked, just for fun
Alma thought about it for a second. Julieta would definitely get the worst scolding once they were back for letting the other two convince her to do something stupid, but you both knew it hadn't been her idea. It probably wasn't even Bruno's, but there was someone who had never feared death nor god.
"The middle one" she told you
You nodded and focused on your victim for a moment before your chance flew directly at her. Your smirk never left your face and grew even more when Pepa fell to the ground after it hit her right in the head. Bruno and Julieta didn't even look at their fallen sister, they just ran faster to save their lives.
"AND YOU BETTER BRING IT BACK TO ME, YOUNG LADY" You yelled at the redhead while the whole family laughed behind you.
These three would be the end of you one day, you were sure of that. But god knew you wouldn't have them any other way. Besides, they were your cute little babies, so you guessed that gave them some points too.

Silenced AU is fun, Dolores totally deserves to go apeshit after everything she's been through. I mean, she got her gift at five, and Camilo, Mirabel, and Antonio are all younger than her by more than five years, there is a real possibility she heard her brothers and cousin being conceived, NO ONE wants to hear that! Not to mention the constant overstimulation, and of course the previously mentioned invasion of privacy, gossip, and secrets, imagine being forced to know everyone's secrets and private info, what everyone thinks about you and the people around them, but if you say or do anything about it suddenly YOU'RE the bad guy, that's basically Dolores' life. Frankly, the townspeople and Madrigals have no one to blame but themselves, if they were smart or even just slightly empathetic, Encanto would've been made a quiet town over a decade ago. Reap your chaos dear Dolores, all hail the empress of sound and the ruler of quiet, the one who hears all. So better make sure she likes what she hears, otherwise you'll lose the privilege
Tumblr media
We should just post this message around Encanto, maybe then they might learn quiet.

Evil Popstar but still redeemable
This goes out to one person who requested the rest of it after that one accidental post 😭
Basically starts out like the popstar au. Mirsbel has no gift, and Camilo's wasn't in high demand at the time, and Alma couldn't really find many uses for him. Difference is, the duo started preforming publicly far earlier on. Alma still wanted them to "help" the community. They helped by being the entertaining ones. They were charming in a way, and people naturally gravitated towards them because of how their personalities were.
Camilo and Mirabel get popular. Fast. Especially with the town. They love them, and since it really started when they were kids, the town though they were so cute, and actually would prefer watching them, over Isabela. Although, Isabela was still Alma's favorite, so she never really opposed, but didn't like how the two younger ones would act towards her compared to how they would with Dolores or Luisa, and later Antonio.
Tumblr media
Alma has pressured them into basically preform at major festivals, events etc etc. Eventually they start doing smaller shows, like weddings, birthdays, etc etc. If they aren't at home, or practicing, they're somewhere preforming. And they've preformed all over the Encanto, several times over, for 10 years. Arguably, their most anticipated shows are the festival, and Encanto Day 🤭 by far their biggest performance, and they are the most expected group of all the performers.
Anyway, they developed their mind set that they can't let anyone drag them down. They are willing to do dang near anything to ensure their performance goes right. They can't afford to mess up, because the last they want is to disappoint Alma. They actually want to be Alma's favorite. Because that way they arem't useless or unproductive in her eyes. They have her approval, which all thr Madrigals want tbh. And Isabela is in the way of that.

Encanto: Madrigal Family Relationship Analysis Part 23 - Bruno and Mirabel
Tumblr media
They were one of my favorite dynamics from the movie. Both have such a deep, intimate, understanding, and loving bond; plus, they are an uncle and niece, which is rare to see in most forms of media. The seflless acts they perform for each other is mutual and constant - Bruno exiled himself to protect Mirabel from possible ostracizing; Mirabel stating that Bruno doesn't cause bad visions and that "family wierdos" like them get a bad rep; Bruno telling Mirabel she's what their family needs (something Mirabel most likely wanted to hear); Mirabel defending Bruno from Alma's harsh accusations; Bruno running on horseback to protect Mirabel again from Alma's supposed anger. They have hardly interacted prior to the movie (with Jared Bush confirming that Bruno began alienating from the family before the time Mirabel was 5) and yet quickly form a healthy and collaborative bond speaks volumes to their profound kinship. And for some extra trivia, in the Japanese version of the movie, Mirabel referred to Bruno as "Bruno-oniichan" (an affectionate term younger siblings use to refer to their older brother); this means that Mirabel (at least in the Japanese version), thinks of Bruno as more of a brother than an uncle. In fact, their whole relationship is more like a brother-sister than an uncle-niece. They each give each other the validation and respect they don't often receive from their family and community, especially before the movie's conclusion. And they are symbolically tied to one - Bruno's green eyes is similar to Mirabel's green glasses and both bare a strong resemblance to each other (and deceased patriarch Pedro). And as for the strong resemblance part, I have a headcanon, that if anyone outside the village were to meet the duo, they automatically assume their father and daughter. And that adds another headcanon of mine: While Mirabel does have a loving and affectionate bond with Agustin, I think a part of her also views Bruno as another father figure. Similarly, while Bruno loves all his nieces and nephews equally, I think a part of him views Mirabel as more of a daughter. I can also see them being the type of best friends who constantly trade sarcastic quips and banter (with a dark sense of humor), basically having their own language. They are a true team and duo of loyal friends, who just GET each other.

Malleus Draconia x Encanto!Reader
Tumblr media
You can absolutely thank @thefiasco-onyourblock for constantly posting Twisted Wonderland content enough for me to become intrigued by “Who is that hunk with Maleficent’s horns?”.
While it is absolutely valid for every Latino who watched Encanto to enjoy the happy ending of the toxic ass family actually apologizing, this set of smol headcanons is for the Latino kids who have gone no contact with their family.
I see the Twisted Wonderland Encanto realm is the same, however you aren’t necessarily a Madrigal in name, but your family is Twisted Wonderland’s variant.
Yet you are very much the Mirabel of the story, in that you are the only member of your family who has no gift of magic.
The world you live in exists in this strange realm of being knowledgeable of places like Night Raven College existing, but still largely ignorant of other magical customs and cultures.
But it works out fine for your family. Since they’re the only people of your world with a gift, they enjoy the status.
You were not given a gift, and your life has been hell for it. Abuse and neglect are familiar to you.
Anything goes wrong, often you bear the brunt of things beyond your control.
This is obvious by your reactions in Night Raven College. You will often overreact to the most minor of things, or stress to the point of doing things like pulling out your hair, picking and scratching at blemishes on your skin, or overeating/not eating enough.
Your cousins, the golden grandchildren with gifts, stole the spotlight often. Even the younger ones who showed you kindness once will inevitably be influenced to see you as a pariah for not having a gift. It hurts to see that eventually they’re the ones who actually start rumors of your jealousy when you notice the casita begin to fracture and crack.
It comes to a head one day when you’re the one blamed for trying to help your cousins see past their insecurities and find the goodness and individuality inside. Instead you’re accused of ruining the family and causing the foundations of bonds to fall apart. All this for teaching your cousins that they’re more than their gift.
Wild accusations fly through the air like daggers at your head, your grandmother accusing you of not caring for the family, of wanting to see it’s destruction.
That precise moment is when the casita begins to visibly fracture and break. You leave everything behind, taking nothing with you except the wounds left by your family’s harsh words.
Next you know, you’re being removed from a coffin and have found yourself in a place where it seems everyone has been blessed with a gift. Even this weird cat creature has power you were not aware could be bestowed.
Bitterly, when the mirror declares you empty, you realize that perhaps your cousins would have flourished here in your stead. As usual, you’re the only one without a gift at the table.
However, throughout your interactions at Night Raven, the others wonder aloud if you really do have a gift.
Your ability to bring students together, the life you’ve given to Ramshackle Dorm, it has to be a gift your friends insist.
No one is more convinced than Malleus Draconia. You’ve found a friend, and daresay a new love, in this mysterious fae mage.
For the first time you’ve found someone who recognizes you and the gift you truly are. Malleus never fails to remind you of your worth whenever the scars of your past begin to hurt afresh.
He will be the first to point out when you’ve done something amazing. It could be something as simple as learning a new dish or resolving a conflict with two students with nothing more than a plateful of arepas con queso and a listening ear.
(His favorite dish that you’ve ever made for him is bandeja paisa by the way.)
It’s actually Malleus who proposes to you, making sure to let you know that you are a blessing to have arrived in his life.
“O Child of Man, know that your family asked for a gift of a miracle, yet in their hubris were willfully blind to the truth: the gift is you. Gifts of the fae are not to be abused or taken lightly. Be not afraid, for in my arms I will nurture and assist you in finding your light once more.”
You have to cry. Never has such a kindness been spoken to you before.
Whatever promises he makes, Malleus Draconia keeps his word. He will defend you, nurture your spirit, encourage you, but he will also help you if he notices you going down a path of destructive behavior.
He is always there for you. Even when times are hard and you cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel. Malleus is a gift in of himself.
You feel very lucky to have such a gift.
Needless to say, after telling him of the things that have happened in your family, he will never let you set foot there again.
If your guilty conscience takes control, he will reluctantly allow you to see your family again, but rest assured the minute he hears any accusation against you it’s time to leave.
He admittedly is actually satisfied with how your family has seemed to fall apart without you.
For a moment your casita is alive with your visit, and it seems everyone briefly regains their power, but it’s hard to say whether or not they still blame your departure as the cause for the candle going out.
Which in a sense they’re right, but Malleus in true Dark Fairy fashion can’t help but drop the truth bomb.
“Those who should squander a gift of the fae should show no surprise when it is reclaimed.”

saw you were taking encanto requests so i wanted to pitch in and ask for something that includes all the grandkids, who decide to kidnap adopt a girl just a few months younger than camilo and mirabel. they do this upon learning that her family is neglectful and she’s never known love. so they treat her like a beloved little sister, perhaps living out their fantasies of having a sweet baby sis.
YANDERE MADRIGAL FAMILY X READER
I’m sorry this is so late- literally forgot to post it💀
Tumblr media
It was Antonio’s door ceremony , the village was lively with color, flowers bloomed at every green patch of grass, the members of la familia madrigal could be seen happily buzzing around the village, happy to accept any congraduations from the citizens. You were stuck in the shop all day, selling old items from way before you were born. Your parents of course, we’re off celebrating the new induction to the small boy named Antonio, leaving you to deal with everything, yet again.
You knew you should be happy, today marks a new day of flourishment for the village, but you just can’t seem to swipe that scoul from your features. Sure, you’d made very good friends with the madrigals, they were your best customers, Luisa often came in your shop to speak with you, Camilo would disguise himself every time, but you always knew it was him, and Isabela… she thought this place was too dirty, so she had taken you on somewhat of a date to the flower fields. Abuela had come in once or twice, didn’t buy anything, but spoke with you for a brief few minutes. The madrigal family was lived across the board, they were the reason that you were even alive today, but still, you couldn’t be happy for them. It was selfish. But it was true.
They were lively people, and they treated you like a a little sister or a daughter, but everytime you go to one of these ceremonies, every time you see mirabel and her mama in the plaza, you are just reminded of everything you’re missing in life. They have love, they are close knit. Someone would know if they go missing, or if they are found hung from the ceiling, someone will care for them. They know that no one will just forget them and go on with their lives. It always just sparked endless jealousy in you whenever you saw them smiling together, laughing together. And then they unknowingly rub it in by inviting you to their family dinners, by having sleepovers in Isabella’s room, or being hugged by Luisa. It was like they were just trying to prove how much you didn’t fit in.
You wish you had an Abuela that cared about your family, or a mama who would hold you close and comfort you when upset, or a papa who bragged about your accomplishments to others.
Especially now, as you stood in the crowd of people, watching at the golden family ascended the stairs of la casita. everyone around was cheerful, wearing the best of their best outfits, dancing and singing, just awaiting the reveal of Antonio’s room. You were a stark contrast to the general tone of the room, you had hoped that tonight maybe your parents would spend time with you, but they left yoh in a corner the second they left. You know, it’s sad and stupid to be mopey for no reason, but you couldn’t help but set a sad mood. It showed through your features too, a sad scowl and droopy eyes displayed on your face, you didn’t talk to anyone. Not even Isabella when she tried to feed you some of the arepas from the snacks. You didn’t realize that the entire madrigal family was solely focused on you, even Antonio was worried. Why were you sad? A fiesta is meant for smiles and flowers and madrigal weirdness, not a sad child longing for attention.
While in your daze, longingly staring at the family, you failed to notice the putter patter of la casita trying to speak, that was until it tapped at your foot. The tiles under your two feet moved around, fluttering and twisting until you snapped out of whatever trance you were in. You tilted your head down with a sorrowful smile at the times, which had now rearranged themselves into a smiley face.
“Hi, casita.” You said no more words than that, and it seemed to understand, leaving you along for a few seconds, before scuffling back with one of the pretty red roses isabela had grown. Of course la casita thought it would help you, being a smile yo your face, but instead it just furthered your sorrow, oh great! Isabel’s flowers that you would never be able to grow even if you had a green thumb! Wonderful! Your frown deepened.
“I really just- I don’t want to do this right now. Can I be alone. Please” you talked to the floor like a madwoman, but the tiles hook left to right, almost as if to say no. You let out a sigh, and continued to drone out the rest of the world, now solely focusing on the tiles, and the house that oh so desperately wants to make our happy. So it left, again, just for a few seconds. Only to come back again, this time in the shape of an arrow, pointing towards the set of stairs behind a wall, almost hidden.
“Oh? What? Do you want me to follow?” The tiles shooks up and down, and your questioned it for a solid moment, looking back at the family and the party, it probably wasn’t respectful to just run around someone’s house, before remembering that this is why you’re sad “oh damn it all, what have I got to lose?” You huffed, and followed the arrow.
You remained silent at the rest of the travel through the home, step by step, la casita placed pillows behind you as if it expected you to fall, you didn’t notice of course, too focused on how the tiles seemed to glow more and more as you followed them. You walked up and up and up until you reached the top, and heaved yourself past the hallway too. You’d never seen this part of the house, maybe they just kept it hidden from everyone else. But it was beautiful, flowers were painted along the borders of the walls, and vines hung from the ceiling with roses and lights attached to them, you smiled at the sight. How pretty. La casita seemed happy at the soft upturn of your lips, yet it wasn’t done. It shook the wall in front of you, sending the wood creaking and squeaking. Your brows furrowed at the sight, is this all it wanted to lead you to? A wall?
You pressed your hand flat against the wall, softly huffing, all at once you seemed to remeber that sorrow, that anger at your own parents, yoh were just trying to distract with stupid games with some stupid house, a stupid house that you’d stared at every time you passed, a stupid house that you lingered by, a house that was filled with curiosity and joy, but now just felt sorrowful. You placed your forehead against the wAll, closing your eyes and attempting to stop yourself from letting your tears run free. Yet one still rolled down your cheek.
“Y/n! I was wondering when this would happen.” You heard a voice behind you speak up, but you didn’t move, too flustered to care that someone was experience you crying. After a few seconds you could recognize that voice as Camilla, gone was that playful tone, he seemed utterly worried, you could hear it in how worry and frantic ness was laced in his tone. When you had finally pried your eyes open, finally reigned your emotions in enough to not start sobbing, you were met with a shocking sight
A glowing door in place of the wall, reading “y/‘ madrigal”.
“C-Camilo? What?” You questioned, backing o from the door the second you spotted it, you did nothing but hit Camilla chest, and he gripped your shoulder, keeping you in place and pushing you towards it.
“It’s okay- it’s okay. Just open it” he gushed, shoving you forward gently until you stumbled to the door, your initials were engraved on the doorknob. It was pretty, but it didn’t feel real. Why would this be happening, maybe this is a dream. You stared at the door skeptically, and reached your hand out, skeptically, but before you did anything (also skeptically) your attention was drawn to a voice.
“But today isn’t just a day for antoñio, we have someone special, someone new!” You were able to recognized the voice as Abuelas, seconds after the announcement, there was a bright spotlight on you, and you brought your hand away from the door to shield your eyes.
“Dear y/n has been bruised, neglected, and hated for all of her life. Pobre pequeña Bebe. We’re giving her a new life! A new chance to be loved!” Abuela announced and splayed her arms out, her demanding voice sparked motivation in the eyes of the citizens. They all stared at you in pure awe for a few moments, then the crowd erupted in cheers, screaming for you. It’s not like it wasn’t obvious how miserable you were, they see Bruno more than you, and they don’t even talk about him!
Now you were utterly confused, if you refused this, and went down the stairs, then you would be either seen as 1. A coward, or 2. A sign of bad luck on the village, it would weaken the magic. But if you said yes, then… we’ll you don’t know what’s gonna happen. The cheers of the drunken adults and hyper children VILLE dyour head, and you did nothing but freeze. It wasn’t until a warm hand pressed on your shoulder that you snapped out of it, you spun around to meet the living gaze of mirabel and Camilo, along with Luisa. They stared at you for a few good long moments before Luisa spoke up.
“Open the door, la casita is never wrong, it knows what you want cariña, just open it” she softly spoke, which was odd because there was nothing soft about this woman. She looked her hands under your arms and placed you back in front of the door, which you continued to stare at. Her hand rested at the small of your back, almost threatening that it would help you open it if you didn’t do it yourself.
So, yoh reluctantly raised your hand to the doorknob, and twisted it. The second you did the door swung open completely. Revealing… a room. Your room. Well, your NEW room. It was calm, peaceful, it somehow appeared to have no curling, like the cielimg was the night sky full of stars. Bells hung from nonexistent hooks and they jungles as cool wind blew by. A bed was centered in the middle of the room, huge and white, with small stuffed animals scattered about.
The cheers behind the door became louder for a moment, but were completely shut out when the three young teens came into the room behind her. You flew around to meet their gazes, about to be extremely angry with them, but… isn’t this what you had wanted in the end? To be part of the family, to get rid of your jealousy?
“I-I don’t understand”
“It’s okay honey- you don’t have to understand, just let us take care of you, let us give you the love you never got” Luisa smiled and picked you up gently, for someone so broad and menacing her touch sure is comforting. You weren’t that much younger than her really, although you were the same age as mirabel, it felt odd to be called “honey”, either because it was coming from her, or you’d never felt that before.
“This… is crazy. Absolutely loca” you huffed out, more to yourself than anyone elsestaring around at the peaceful room. Mirabel couldn’t help but smile at your amazement, she couldn’t blame you for being so cute, but sometimes it distracted her. You were absolutely adorable. She made her way around to you while the other two stared at you with love, pulling you towards the bed, and closer to her, she remarked:
“You know, I’ve always wanted a baby sister, I’m the youngest so it’s only natural. This is so amazing! I finally get to have you!” She smiled and tugged you close, wrapping her arms fully around you, and pulling your head into her chest. You stiffened at the touch, unsure what to do with your own hands. Do you hug back or stand still? Or do you wrap your arms around too? What do you do what do you do what do you do what do you do.
“It’s okay. Those terrible parents of yours never taught you how to be lived, but you’ll get used to it. Just let yourself relax cariña, we’ll take care of the rest. No one will bother you while you’re here” Camilo remarked, now at mirabels side, he stroked your head and grabbed one of your hands to wrap around the girls waist. at the mention of your parents you perked up, in the midst of all this chaos you’d forgotten about them! Holy crap they totally saw you being admitted or whatever into this family! Oh they’re gonna be so pissed with you.
“I’m sorry camilo. B-But I can’t stay here, I can’t be part of this family. I’m not part of this family. I have parents, and even if they don’t treat me like… like this, I love them” at that their bright smiles dropped, you didn’t even notice it, but it was like a light switch turned off behind their eyes, and now all that was left was a dark, creepy look. Camilo brought his finger to your mouth to shush you, feigning hurt the entire way through.
“Love is only real if it’s mutual. We love you, and we all know you love us. You don’t have to be scared of them anymore. I’ll- we’ll protect you” his finger stayed on your lips as he said this, a menacing smile plastered across his face. Somethings wrong here. You just couldn’t place what. Of course they knew that your parents probably would be upset that you are part of them now, that is if they were alive, if they weren’t being turned into mush by isabelas flowers at the moment.
“I know but- I just have to work and they’ll be mad if I can’t an-“
“Hush, you’re too small to work, just let us all take care of you. The village doesn’t have any objections, they love you as much as we do. Just let us have you okay? Well keep you safe! Well love you” mirabel piped in, now taking her own turn in shushing your, it was quite odd how she called you little, when in reality you were only a few months younger than her, and maybe a few inches shorter. Huh. Weird.
“But-“
“I said stop. You aren’t going back. They’re gone, they left the second you became one of us, they don’t care” Luisa spoke for the first time again, her words shut you up right away. It made you sink into murabels chest, it made tears cloud up in your eyes as you failed at keeping them in. It made your heart beat faster. Would they- could they even do that to you? Why?
“Oh.” You spoke, and as Luisa stroked your back, Camilo held your hands and kissed them, and mirabel hugged you, all on top of a big fluffy bed. All of your tears and pain seeped out, and you cried into them. All of the sadness built up over the years of neglect, of never feeling enough, of jealousy, all that rage channeled at your biological family for never even trying to be good. It flowed freely out of your body in the form of tears, Luisa held you close as you cried, completely unbothered. Sympathy showed on all three of their faces. Yet they kept checking at the door, maybe for Abuela, or one of the parents.
They didn’t mind sitting like this, sitting with you, for a while though. It was nice to comfort you.
After all
You are their true baby sister

I've got a very mixed relationship with TV Tropes. They banned me twice for no real reason, but I can't stop admiring their archive of tropes. This is what a work page for my "Encanto" fanfic, "Cracks in the future", would look like. (Some of these tropes also fit the canon characters in the movie.) This fanfic is set in an alternate universe, where Bruno has a wife (Míriam) and two kids (Teresa and Víctor).
A - L
Adaption Personality Change: Downplayed. There's a bit less emphasis in this fic on the weirder things, that Bruno will do in the movie. This is partly because most of it is told from Teresa's point of view, and she's a Daddy's Girl who won't find him strange. But it helps as well that he's happier in this fic than in most of the movie, and it makes his anxieties less pronounced and easier to control. That said, it is made clear that Bruno still manages to weird other people out. Abuelo Gonzalez (his father-in-law) actually wonders if he's "right in the head", and Pablo is forced to admit that he can see why people would find him "odd". But still, while Bruno is likely to cover his face with a hood if he's out in public, except if Míriam is there to pull it down, he will never wear a bucket over his head here. And he still has rats as pets long before it would be seen as normal, but his two alter egos Hernando and Jorge are never mentioned at all in this fic. And even him being superstitious is only mentioned exactly once.
Adaptional Angst Downgrade: Bruno is generally much happier in this fic than in most of the movie. It is true that he still deals with the pressure from his mother, and with a bunch of judgemental villagers. But it's noted that him meeting Míriam has improved his life a great deal. He never hid from his family for years either in this fic, since he could talk to his wife about his visions and had two kids to raise. Bruno and Míriam decided to simply not reveal what he saw in Mirabel's future. That made his mother furious with him, but he didn't have to become a hermit…
The Alcoholic: Tía Malena's husband Enrique is described as a violent drunk, and nobody in Malena's family likes him.
All Work vs All Play: This is what Míriam and Malena were in their younger days. Míriam preferred to stay at home and help their parents in their shop, but Malena would be out dating different guys instead.
Almighty Mum: When a bully's father is about to start attacking Bruno's door, Bruno can't do much except take his crying wife into his tower, and tell his kids to go to their rooms and hide there. And as soon as the man attacks the door, what saves the situation is that the door gives the attacker an electric shock, and that Abuela Madrigal arrives and tells him and his wife off. They try to make it look as if everything is Bruno's and Teresa's fault, but that doesn’t work at all. Abuela Madrigal only tells them to leave. And naturally, they must obey her.  * As a matter of fact, people respect Abuela Madrigal so much that Teresa can use it. She learns that if Pablo's father keeps on slandering her and her father, her bringing up her abuela is the only way to make him stop.
Ascended Extra: Bruno has never hidden from his family for a decade in this fic, where he becomes the beloved father of protagonist Teresa. So he naturally has lots of screen time here, that he didn't have in the movie.
Awful Wedded Life: Tía Malena is clearly unhappy with her marriage to Enrique, who's described as a violent drunk who nobody in Malena's family likes. Also, Pablo reveals to Teresa that he wonders if his parents even still like each other. Both of these cases are in contrast to the three happy Madrigal marriages.
Bespectacled Cutie: Mirabel happens to be the only family member except for her father, who needs to wear glasses. She's also the only Madrigal kid to have no gift and struggles with that.
Beta Couple: Julieta and Pepa are already dating Agustín and Félix respectively, when Bruno and Míriam get together in the first chapter. It is later revealed in the second chapter, that Julieta and Pepa are planning triple dates. And later on in the story, the three couples have been married for 22 years and are still friends. * Dolores and Mariano become this to Teresa and Pablo by the end of the story. It is a case though, where the Betas get together later than the Official Couple, since everyone had just expected Mariano to propose to Isabela, while Dolores had hidden her feelings for him.
Big Sister Instinct: Teresa manages to save Víctor from a group of mean bullies, and it's revealed that Pepa used to do the same thing for Bruno.
Birth-Death Juxtaposition: Abuelo Pedro was killed during an attack right after his kids were born.
Bookworm: Bruno is hardly fond of being out among people in public, but he will still take his family on regular visits to the local library. It is noted that he was an avid reader as a young man. So now, it is important to him to encourage his kids to read. And it worked especially well with Víctor, who loves to go to the library. However, Teresa will borrow a book or two as well.
A Boy, A Girl, And A Baby Family: Dolores is 21 years old, Camilo is 15 years old and Antonio is the baby of the family at five years old.
Boyfriend-Blocking Dad: Bruno becomes a downplayed example when Teresa meets Pablo. Bruno is clearly uncomfortable with it, but he still is more nervous than aggressive. And he doesn’t have anything bad to say about Pablo, he is even able to apologize for acting weird, and acknowledge that Pablo is the first person who isn't a family member, who will respect him. As soon as Teresa asks her parents if she can bring Pablo to her room though (she promises that they'll only talk, but they would be alone together in her bedroom), Bruno has to warn him that he can't do anything "improper" to her.
Brooding Boy, Gentle Girl: Downplayed with Bruno and Míriam as he is as gentle to her as she is to him. They were also both lonely before they met each other. However, Bruno was extremely unhappy until then. And he still has his anxieties and a bad reputation. Míriam managed to see that he wasn't dangerous though, even if she was the only girl in the Encanto to be willing to date him. Nowadays, it is her job to help him deal with whatever his problems are… * Pepa and Félix are a gender-inverted example. She is very hot-tempered and overly emotional, and it became his job to calm her down (and it's a very important job, since Pepa's mood controls the weather in the Encanto).
The Bully: A gang of them attack Víctor in an alley before Teresa can stop them. One of the bullies who insults their father gets what he deserves though…  * It is revealed that Bruno also was attacked by bullies when he was younger, and that Pepa had to strike them in their heads with lightning.
Bumbling Dad: Mirabel's father, Agustín, is clumsy and always attracts bees, but he does love his wife and his daughters dearly and will do anything for them.
Canon Foreigner: Míriam, Malena, their parents, Teresa, Víctor, Leonor, Pablo, Pablo's family and Enrique are all characters, who don't appear in the movie.
Clashing Cousins: Teresa and Isabela are never able to get along. But then, Teresa suddenly has an epiphany that Isa almost accepted a loveless marriage. And it makes her feel sympathy for her at last…
Daddy's Girl: Teresa is very devoted to Bruno and won't let anybody insult him (and that is what most of the villagers do). She is very adamant about assuring that he's right about all of his visions. Her theory is that she got the same gift as him for this reason: Since she loves her father so much, she can't imagine having a different gift…
Demoted To Extra: This happened to several of the characters from the movie. Mirabel is Teresa's best friend and still an important character, but she's not the protagonist and will not appear in every chapter. And as much as Julieta, Pepa, Agustín, Félix, Camilo and Antonio are still there, they only get a few lines each. When it comes to more minor characters from the movie, like the kids who pestered Mirabel, Señora Pezmuerto and Señor Flores, they are still around as well, but they're not named and don't get any lines. Osvaldo Orozco Ortiz is an aversion though, as he is in the spotlight in one scene.
Disappeared Dad: Abuelo Pedro was forced to sacrifice his life to save all the other villagers, when they were attacked when his three kids had just been born. Not only did this traumatize his wife Alma (a k a Abuela Madrigal), but it's clear that Bruno (who was the only boy) also struggled a lot as he didn’t have a father.  * Nobody has ever found out what happened to Teresa's cousin Leonor's father. He seems to have just disappeared one day. So he must have either been killed, or he found some way to leave the Encanto and abandon his pregnant fiancée.
Energetic and Soft-Spoken Duo: Mirabel and Dolores end up with this dynamic, when they're in the same scene together. Mirabel is very bubbly and talkative, Dolores is calmer and much quieter.
Fiery Redhead: Tía Pepa is red-headed and really hot-tempered. Her mood is what controls the weather in the Encanto.
Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Míriam had become the responsible sister, who preferred to stay at home and help her parents in their shop. Malena would be out dating different guys instead. Even as they've reached their middle age, Míriam is Happily Married and described by Teresa as a perfect wife and mother, while Malena is stuck with a violent drunk and is very jealous of her sister.
Freudian Trio: The three middle-aged women in the Casita form a trio like this. Pepa is really hot-tempered (the Id), Julieta is the calm and responsible sister (the Superego), while Míriam does her best to be the perfect wife and mother, but she can still start crying and lose her temper (the Ego).  * This is true for their husbands as well. Félix is jolly and extroverted (the Id), Agustín is calm and more composed (the Superego), while Bruno is introverted, but will often show emotions like sadness and anxiety and shame (the Ego).  * And naturally, this is true with the triplets too, with Pepa as a hot-tempered Id, Julieta as the calm Superego and Bruno as the introverted but nervous Ego.
Generation Xerox: Míriam got really scared the first time she saw Bruno's eyes glow green, and it made him plead with her to not leave him. Years later, this is repeated but gender-inverted with Teresa and Pablo. He is very startled when he sees her eyes glow green, and it makes her plead with him to not leave her. * Pablo's mother says that Teresa reminds her of her mother though. But later, Pablo reveals to Teresa that her eyes will look sad even when she's smiling. And that's a trait, that she's apparently inherited from her father.  * Víctor is very much like Bruno, which has become notable to lots of people. Both of them are described as having a melancholy and nervous personality. Their pictures that hang next to Abuela Madrigal's door are nearly identical. Both of them are also into writing stories and theater and have rats as pets. * But a lot of this might go back one more generation. As soon as Pablo sees a painting of Abuelo Pedro, he says he thinks that Bruno looks a lot like him. Bruno and Víctor are also implied to have inherited their writing skills from him.
Generational Trauma: Abuela Madrigal watched her husband get killed during an attack. And it made her think that her kids and grandkids have to work hard, and produce new generations of Madrigals, so the magic and their protection from new attacks will stay strong. But it makes her do things like allowing the villagers to slander Bruno, pushing Mirabel to the side until she feels unloved, pressuring Isabela to think that she must enter a marriage that she doesn’t want, and Luisa to think that she has to work hard until she almost burns herself out. Teresa is mostly left alone until she meets Pablo. But then, Abuela Madrigal makes it clear that she wants great-grandkids. It is only after the Casita crumbles and the magic is lost, that a healing process can begin…
The Glorious War of Sisterly Rivalry: Míriam and Malena have a responsible vs irresponsible divide, and not a smart vs pretty divide (even if Míriam is the wiser out of the two, and Malena is described as having been the more popular sister). But still, Malena seems to see her whole life as just a competition with Míriam. Malena is very bitter and jealous since Míriam has a better life than her.  * Mirabel and Isabela are unable to get along, and Mirabel and Teresa love to mock Isabela for being so haughty. But they can reconcile after Isabela reveals her secret: she was only going to marry Mariano to please Abuela Madrigal.
Glowing Eyes: This is what happens when Bruno or Teresa looks into the future. Their eyes will glow green.
Good Parents: Teresa and Víctor feel that Bruno and Míriam definitely are this. Teresa adores her father and admires her mother, just as much as Víctor adores his mother and admires his father.
Green Thumb: Isabela's power is that she can grow plants out of nowhere.
Happily Married: Teresa is glad that she grew up around three happy marriages (Bruno/Míriam, Pepa/Félix and Julieta/Agustín), but she can also describe her abuelos as being devoted to each other…
Hidden Depth: Even if Teresa didn't quite agree with Mirabel that Mariano was a "dumb hunk", she is very surprised when she learns that he's a poet.
Honorary Uncle: This story has an inversion. Normally, Teresa and Víctor would have called Tía Malena's husband "Tío Enrique". But nobody in Malena's family likes him because he's a violent drunk, so nobody has taught Teresa or Víctor to think of him as their tío. He is therefore referred to as just "Enrique".
Housewife: Zig-zagged with Míriam. She devotes a big chunk of her life to just taking care of her husband and her kids, and that is clearly what she wanted. However, she likes to run her family's shop too after she gets a chance to do so. Still, she is ready to cut down on her hours in the shop after the magic returns.
I Am Not Pretty: Teresa is very surprised when Pablo actually calls her pretty. What she thought was that Isabela was the pretty one.
I See Dead People: Víctor's power is that he can both see and hear the spirits of the dead.
I Want Grandkids: Actually, Abuela Madrigal is pushing for great-grandkids now. This is very justified though since she believes that if the Encanto will survive, there must be new generations of Madrigals to keep the magic strong.
In-Series Nickname: "Mira" for Mirabel, "Isa" for Isabela and "Juli" for Julieta. Antonio and Pablo are called "Toñito" and "Pablito" by their respective mothers. * As a way more negative example, Bruno is known as "Bad Luck Bruno" among the villagers. It is even used by his brother-in-law Enrique, but he's not portrayed in a positive light anyway.
Jacob and Esau: Pablo is clearly his mother's favorite, and Pablo is convinced that his brother Manuel is their father's favorite.
The Jinx: Most of the villagers consider Bruno as one of these. They think that not only can he see the future, but he will make all kinds of bad things that he sees happen. Teresa is later accused of causing an old woman's death as well…
Like Mother, Unlike Daughter: Mirabel and Dolores swapped their mother's roles. Mirabel is bubblier than Julieta, while Dolores is quieter than Pepa.
The Lost Lenore: Abuelo Pedro was forced to sacrifice his life during a war. That is when the miracle was born, but it has truly traumatized his wife, Alma, who saw it happen in front of her eyes. As the years went by and she became best known as "Abuela Madrigal", she started to put a lot of pressure on her kids and grandkids. She thought that this was the only way to keep the magic strong, and it would give them protection from new attacks…

Armida Peréz Madrigal!!
(To any of you who have seen the old ref, or even the first one- no you didn't. This is the only ref she's ever had ok)
Week one (part one) of the encanto oc appreciation event @encanto-extended-edition
More info about her below <3
Name: Armida Peréz Madrigal
Nicknames: Mida is most common, Bunny (Pepa and Félix), mi sol and mi cielos (Pepa), Pecas, Mimi (the kids when younger)
Birth date: February 18th 1902
Age: 48 (1950)
Height: 4 foot, 11
Armida is the type to be shy when first knowing her, but after she gets comfortable she becomes almost a completely different person. Due to her past she's not one to trust easily, but she's also not one to buy into rumors about someone- knowing all too well that something can seem one way on the surface, and be completely different in reality. But once you do gain her trust she's fiercely loyal. Sometimes a bit too much- as she's sometimes selfless to the point where it's unhealthy, she'd be willing to lay down her life for a loved one.
Her sense of humor becomes clearer once she becomes comfortable too, although it ranges from dry sarcastic humor to bad/cheesy puns (she and Félix can go back and forth for hours it seems) Sometimes her favorite thing to do is tell a shitty joke and watch her family's reaction. She seems sweet, but really can be a little shit if she's in the mood, Camilo gets it partly from her.
She has natural motherly instincts, although she struggles to conceive.
She works as a seamstress in the Encanto- having learned from her Tía when she was younger, she's become really good at sewing and embroidery (she's the one to teach Mirabel when the time comes, as a way to try and cheer they young girl up and take her mind off things after she didn't get a gift) It becomes one of her ways of helping the Encanto just like every other madrigal, which she's quite content with, she genuinely enjoys the work (although shes prone to overworking herself- especially given she already has trouble sleeping)
She knows a lot about space and the stars too- when she was growing up she often saw the stars as her only true friend- more so after her father died (she believed he was watching over her- and would talk to the stars at night like she was talking to him). Due to this she gained a special interest in space and the stories behind stars and constellations, and to this day she still has her very first book she ever owned on the subject. It's another thing that is special to her.
Has an affinity for nature. Like I said she spent a good part of her childhood alone, so she would sit in the grass and watch bugs or explore - and she found a love for nature. Something she really loves is birdwatching- doing it enough over the years that she knows a good amount about different types of birds and their behaviors. She really likes to collect bird feathers- just any ones that she finds she'll take home- even in the current day. She still very much likes taking nature walks- taking any of the kids who want to come along.
BONUS: info on Goose <3
Goose was a hen from Armida's old farm. One who had trouble hatching and ended up imprinting on her. Goose, to put it lightly, was a mence (hence the name Goose.) She hated almost everyone but armida and would let it known. She especially hated Félix. She lived a good 24 or so years before dying shortly after antonio was born.
