"It's been THIRTEEN years, since my grandma brought little me a book for my birthday I did not ask for. Thirteen years of clutching my hands into this book, who nowadays needs gentle care due to being read and re read for years, and feeling seen.

Today, as I wait for calls back for my neurodivergency testing, Percy Jackson and the Olympians airs on Disney +. I know this show will be one day the same warm blanket that held me together, that told me there was people like me out there, that even tho the world may seem too big and unfair, eventually you will find a home." — Extract from Notes, by Simon Nico.

SO! The Percy Jackson has been out for a few weeks now, and to commemorate it, I decided to draw the main cast of the show coming out of my original copy of The Lighting Thief (hence why it's in Spanish), cause even tho the show may be different as the books, this kids encapsulate perfectly the essence of the characters who shaped my childhood :))

"FREEDOM"

[WARNING, SPOILERS FOR ASTARION'S BACKSTORY]:

I really wanted to do a piece that represented in some way the weight that Astarion's vampirism, so intertwined with his time as Cazador's puppet, set on his heart.

He is so consumed by both self hatred and self perserving insticts, so deeply carved into his heart, that even himself doesn't know what is the original him and what it's a learned habit forced in by his abuser or a trauma response.

Larian Studios did a wonderful job on representing a tortured man, and made sure to show us how trauma can taint every aspect of someon's life. Their personality, their sexuality, their manerisms, what they enjoy, what they don't, etcerera. I also specially love how they show us the greyness of what a traumatized character can be, he can do good, and he can do bad, but at the end of the day he is just a man, doing his best to survive.

And then, they gave us a chance to be his safe space, to help him unlearn those habits, to re-learn who he is, to heal; to be free.

Anyways, Baldur's Gate 3, truly is (at least for me), the game of the year.

The 28th of May of 2023, after three and a half years of campaign, and almost three years since they meet, finally my ship, between the NPC Gavin and my PC Deimos, has become canon!!! If anyone went to 2020 Simon and told him, his very traumatized and depressed first DND character, Deimos, not only would want to live but he would find love with a cool pirate I would have laughed in your face. And look at him now! He bag a baddie ;A; (actually he bagged two, i don’t even know how we did it, we are both a gay mess-).

Anyways, I just wanted to draw them again now that they are officially together to bask in the joy they bring me.
