Historically accurate Hamilton

Hamilton faces a lot of criticism because of its historical inaccuracies, but people seem to forget that it isn’t supposed to be completely accurate. It’s historical fiction, and many details were tweaked to make the musical run more smoothly, make more sense, and generally be easier for an audience to follow. To emphasise my point, I rewrote some of Hamilton to show what it might have been like if it was completely historically accurate (or, parts of it. I’m not rewriting an entire musical).

NB: I am by no means a historical expert. The following is meant for comedy purposes only

Kirby and the Great Adventure of Planet Robobot! Chapter 3

Overload Ocean: That is what the invaders named the whole area of this coast. Just as Kirby and Waddle Dee had guessed, the blue building is this area’s stronghold. It is the enemy’s operations center for carrying out the mechanization of the coastline.

The building’s entrance was being protected by the latest security system. The surveillance cameras caught sight of Kirby and his friend, where a high-pitched alarm began ringing immediately. A synthetic speech is declaring a state of emergency. “Intruders detected! Intruders detected! We will exterminate them at once!” Laser beams are aimed at Kirby and Waddle dee. But an attack like this doesn’t work on Kirby burning with rage. “Move!!” While skipping about too fast for the eye to notice, Kirby fired his specialty Air Pellet in succession. Both the surveillance cameras and the laser weapons are destroyed one after another. Although he can’t really be of use, Waddle Dee also supported Kirby by throwing stones that he picked up. In a short while, all the systems were destroyed and the door opened. Kirby and Waddle Dee entered the enemy’s stronghold in high spirits.

“Natives have broken into this base......you say?” Secretary Susie was in the center of the base area. The room’s walls are made of tempered glass, and the outside is made up of the sea. At first glance, the sea may seem beautiful just like before, but no living creatures were to be seen. They were all captured in succession, where mechanization is being carried out on them. Susie was listening to the reports from her lackeys in the corner of the room. “How could this have happened? What happened to the security system?” “Well......they all seem to have been destroyed.” Answered her lackeys in hesitation, where Susie opened her light blue eyes wide. “Goodness, the security systems that our company takes pride in were destroyed......you say? I guess there are some competent natives in this primitive star after all.” “R-Right......” “It’s fine. Let’s capture those natives as well. They’ll be the material for a new product following M-7110 and D-0030!” Susie turned to the communication panel and pressed a button. “Can you hear me, Director Kane? This is Secretary Susie.” There was an immediate response in a shrill voice. “I hear you, Ms. Secretary! Make it snappy, please. Right now, I’m super busy just from working on that top-secret product.” “I order you to capture the intruders. Seize the eyesores of an intruder that came into our Overload Ocean command HQ.” “Wha......b-but ma’am! Like I said, I’m currently working on the top-secret product......” “You can leave that to the Mother Computer. You are to obey my orders!” “Uh......ughh......” His voice seemed very discontent, but Secretary Susie has immense power within this company. He complied reluctantly. “Understood. I’ll send Invader Armor and head over to capture the natives.” “You mustn’t injure them. Their values as materials will drop.” “Aye, aye.” The communication was cut off. Following that, Susie accessed the Mother Computer and checked the progress of the top-secret products. “M-7110 and D-0030 are both going smoothly......putting in the final adjustments......just as planned, huh.” Nodding in satisfaction, she spread her hands and looked up at the tall ceiling. Grand music can be heard from somewhere. With it, Susie began singing in a beautiful voice. “Noble Haltmann, we adore him......bless our work and be at ease!” What she is humming is the theme song of the Haltmann Works Company. However......in contrast to the triumphant lyrics, there was some gloom in her eyes.

“Return everyone back to normal! Return Dream Land back to normal!” Kirby is running amok as he shouts. One after another, the defense systems inside the base were getting destroyed and the employees were taking cover and trembling. “W-What a frightening power......that native......” “You pink demon!” Waddle Dee said, having been running behind Kirby. “It doesn’t look like anyone’s here, Kirby. The bad guy must be in the deeper room.” “Yup, let’s go deeper!” “-Hold it, natives!” There was a figure standing before the two. Kirby and the Waddle Dee stood ready and glared at the enemy. What stood in the two’s way was a bizarre creature. He has a plump body and is wearing a white suit. His hair just as white is tousled like a knitting wool. About half of his face is concealed by his thick glasses. “I am Director Kane from the Haltmann Laboratory. Upon orders from the company, I’m capturing you natives!” Director Kane lifted his one hand, and with thump, thump......a loud sound was approaching from deep within the passage. What emerged was a powered suit giving off a menacing bloodlust. It is far bigger and more imposing than the Armor Soldiers that attacked Dream Land. Director Kane puffed out his chest and said.

“Would you look at that! This is what my lab poured its blood, sweat, and tears into! We gave our body and soul! We’ve mustered up all our strength in making itttt!!” Falling in labored breathing from too much screaming, Director Kane coughed and continued. “It is Invader Armor, the super-high performance battle machine!!! You natives will be prey to this dreaded killing machine!” “I won’t lose!” Kirby jumped up and was throwing himself at Invader Armor without the slightest fear. Usually, Kirby can demonstrate almost no power in a ‘Normal’ state without a Copy Ability. Before a strong foe, he would even hesitate on fighting. But Kirby was different right now. He has forgotten himself in anger of messing up the residents of Dream Land “You can do it, Kirby!” Even Waddle Dee’s cheers became his strength. “Eat this!!” He hits the Invader Armor with an extra-large Air Pellet. Invader Armor staggered from the impact. Director Kane too staggered as if he himself was hit by the Air Pellet. “W-What? Invader Armor, the super-latest weapon my lab takes pride in stumbled? N-Nonsense......and from something like a native’s attaaack! Get serious, Invader Armor!” Raising its arms made of alloy, Invader Armor struck it down at Kirby. Kirby jumped aside quickly. Part of the floor crumbled from the attack just now. Kirby inhales the clump of rubbles. “Haaa!!” Together with his shout, he spits out a Star Bullet with vigor. It is far more powerful than an Air Pellet. Receiving a direct hit, Invader Armor stopped moving. Kirby isn’t slowing his attacks. One after another, he inhales the rubbles and strikes the enemy with Star Bullets. “Haa! Haa! HAAA!!!” Invader Armor is hit with Star Bullets in succession and wobbles. At last, the combatant on board the Invader Armor jumped out, unable to bear it any longer. Director Kane screams. “You son of a gun! Are you trying to run away!?” “I’m sorry, director. The opponent is too strong! I can only go so much!” “It’s a serious crime to desert before the enemy! Your salary is cut by eighty perceeent!” “I’m more important than the salary! I’m done for if this keeps up!” The combatant flew the coop. “AH, YOUUU!! Come back here! Come back, please! I beg youuu!!!” Screams Director Kane, and coughs once again. Kirby looked up at the Invader Armor that stopped moving. Waddle Dee shouts. “Be careful, Kirby! It could be a trap! It might throw you off guard and start moving suddenly! “I’ll find it out!” Kirby jumped on the Invader Armor. Director Kane protested in a shrill voice. “Ah, you little turd! Don’t you get on the latest and the strongest Invader Armor that our company takes pride in when you’re a mere native! Hand me bribery if you want to get in!!” ......He is surprisingly cheap. Kirby isn’t listening to his words. “Yup, it’s ok-ay. No one’s on in it anymore. Hmmm......what a weird vehicle.” A change occurred just as he sat on the driver’s seat. The Invader Armor’s body became a pink color similar to Kirby

Why......?” Director Kane shudders and yells. “W-W-What the, Invader Armor is adapting to that native in an unprecedented level......WHYYYY! “Are you okay, Kirby? Isn't it painful?” Waddle Dee was worried about him. But Kirby is lively. “No problemo! This vehicle is interesting.” With Kirby on board, the armor began walking with thump, thump. Director Kane screams once again. “Whooaa, he’s maneuvering it so well! But even our company’s elite soldiers shouldn’t be able to control it without receiving intense special training for more than half a year! You’re so fast!” “Not quite! I’ll go faster!” The armor accelerated just as Kirby said. Not moving its feet, but it floated in the air just a slight by using a booster and began hovering. “WhaWhaWhaWhaWhaWhat the! He’s even handling the booster with skill! That can’t be called Invader Armor anymore......it needs a different name exclusive to that native! Native Armor......Pink Armor......no, no, not quite.” Director Kane tore his tousled hair out. Waddle Dee turned around from all the noisiness. “Is it that hard to make that robot move......?” “Robot......? Robo......hmm, Robobot Armor it is. I’ve decided to call that entirely new armor Robobot Armor! What a great name!” “Robo......bot?” “Wait, Robobot Armor! Let me study youuu!” Director Kane chased after Invader Armor turned pink......not, Robobot Armor. “I’m not really sure about it, but......Kirby really is amazing.” Muttered Waddle Dee and began running.

Before Robobot Armor moving forward smoothly, a new enemy appeared once again. It’s Wheelie, the inhabitant of Dream Land who has the body of a round tire. But he definitely seems off. He said in a low voice, looking at Robobot Armor with dull eyes. “Who are......you......aren’t you......Invader Armor......?” “Wheelie, it’s me, Kirby!” Shouts Kirby from the driver’s seat. But Wheelie’s expression didn’t change. “Kirby......did you also become Haltmann Works Company’s warrior?” “That’s not it! These jerks here have messed up Dream Land. I came to save everyone.” “Are you......an enemy of the great company......?” “Snap out of it, Wheelie. I’m......” “I won’t have mercy if you’re an enemy!” Wheelie began rotating on the spot. His signature move is to gather force like this and roll while knocking down anything in his way. “Listen to me, Wheelie. Those jerks here are turning everyone in Dream Land into machines. You too are under their control!” Wheelie didn’t respond immediately. Raising his speed of rotation to the limits, he shouts in a grating voice. “Shut up, Kirby! Working for the company is the greatest happiness there is!” “Wheelie......” “I work for the great company with daytime, nighttime, time to sleep and eat all but no more......it’s the greatest honor!” Wheelie charged at Robobot Armor. “Wahh!” Robobot Armor was directly hit by his charge. Sure enough, it wasn’t blown away from the weight it had, but lost his balance and tumbled. Director Kane who caught up to them groaned in disappointment. “Hmm......it fell over from such an attack......is this the extent of its strength......? Was I expecting too much......?” Waddle Dee rushes out in front of the director and yells. “Kirby, are you alright!?” “U-Uh-huh......but Wheelie is......” “Get down from that robot, Kirby! Then you’ll be able to use a Copy Ability!” “Okay! Alrighty!” Hearing Waddle Dee’s great idea, Kirby tried to get down from Robobot Armor. But Wheelie charges at him swiftly. Receiving several tackles, Robobot Armor continues to stumble. “I-I can’t get down like this......!” Screams Kirby. Wheelie charges at him with no concern. While aboard the Robobot Armor, he wasn’t sure if he could inhale Wheelie or not, but he has no choice but to make or break. -With it, something strange happened at that moment. As though it responded to Kirby’s ‘Inhale,’ part of its stomach opened and green light emitted from there. Wheelie was gone the moment he was flooded with that light. At the same time, Robobot Armor transformed into a figure resembling a race car with large tires equipped to it.

“WhaWhaWhaWhaWhat is that!? It transformed? You mean that it scanned that tire creature’s shape and ability!? I should call this Wheel Mode!” Cries Director Kane. “You’re amazing, Kirby!” Waddle Dee hops up and down in excitement. “You used a Copy Ability while on board the robot!” “Copy? No, wrong! You should call this Ability Scan! It’s a terrific ability that analyzes the opponent’s data in an instant and rearranges its own structure on a molecular level!” Director Kane is even more excited than Waddle Dee. He danced about with both his hands raised. “Holy smokes! Invader Armors weren’t equipped with such ability! I can only conclude that that pink native’s potential brought out the armor’s new ability! What an incredible natiiive! ......Cough, cough.” Kirby in question is puzzled. “Huh......? It changed shape and became like a car.” “Can you run, Kirby?” “No idea......I’ll give it a try......” As soon as he says so, Robobot Armor in Wheel Mode began running. It’s acceleration performance was splendid. It speeds up rapidly and sprints the long corridor. “Wow, amazing, Kirby!” Waddle Dee’s eyes sparkled. Kirby too felt refreshed and began to sing while running. “Lalala, so fast! I’ll run anywhere with the invincible wheel~!” He was about to crash into a wall at a dead end, where he had the armor make a sharp turn right away. The armor somersaulted and jumped to a lower floor. “Ahhhh! Robobot Armor has entered our new vehicular test course!” Shouts Director Kane. “The test course is a super-difficult circuit with gravel paths, slopes, and sudden turns! You also need to follow the signal!” “Be careful, Kirby!” Waddle Dee watched the running Robobot Armor in anxiety. Robobot Armor is in the zone as Wheel Mode. Picking up more and more speed, it drives recklessly on the circuit. At that moment, the signals on the course turned red in unison. Director Kane shouts, having noticed it. “It’s a red light! Stoop! You need to stooop......!” Kirby doesn’t look at the signal. He continued running just like that with no thought. Right as he ignored the red light and runs through it: “AUGHHH!” Simultaneously with Director Kane’s cry, a large explosion occurs. The Robobot Armor was blown away. Director Kane turned pale and said. “If you don’t follow the signal, the landmine installed on the course is set to explode......all because he ignores the signal......!” “Kirby!” In a panic, Waddle Dee jumped down onto the course and rushed over to Kirby. “Are you okay!?” “Y-Yeah......” Kirby rose up slowly. Kirby wasn’t hurt, but Robobot Armor was seriously damaged. Having reverted back to normal, Wheelie screamed and was running away. “I sped up too much......” Said Kirby regretfully. Waddle Dee sighed in relief as Kirby was unhurt. “It’s great that you’re alright, although the robot was destroyed!” “It’s a shame about the robot, but that can’t be helped.” “You think it can’t be helped!???” Director Kane hollered at Kirby. As he tottered, he picked up the scraps of armor scattered about the course and broke down in tears. “Aaaahh......Invader Armor, the fruit of our science that my lab has put all its efforts in developing is......in such a pitiful state!” “Sorry for breaking it.” Apologized Kirby. Director Kane looked daggers at Kirby. “Sorry won’t cut it......you blasted native......you will work with my lab......” “S-Sure......I’ll help out. Although I’m not sure if I could fix the broken robot......” “No! I don’t need any help in repairing......I want to study your unique potential......” His glasses sparkled, and Director Kane sidled up to Kirby. Kirby shrank back, feeling an ominous force. “W-What......? Study me......?” “Ehehe......it’s quite simple, you know......all I want to do is give you a shot, zap you with electricity, and beat you with a hammer......” “EHHH!?” “You’ll become the best product ever......the strongest product in the universe that surpasses M-7110 and D-0030......!” Director Kane leapt at Kirby. Kirby made a run for it in a panic. “I don’t wanna! I’m not gonna work with you!” “It’s for the great Haltmann Works Company to prosper......if I analyze your strength and mass produce soldiers with the same abilities as you......our company will be invincible!!!” Director Kane rushes at Kirby to seize him, where Kirby runs around in an attempt to escape. “You know, we’re busy here, Director Kane. We wanna hurry up and go to the deeper room. Stop bothering us!” “You think I’ll let you? Your destination isn't the inner room, but my laboratory!” “Geez, how stubborn can you be!?” Being baffled, Kirby resolves himself, opens his mouth widely, and takes a deep breath. Kirby’s inhaling power is tremendous. A storm broke in no time and Director Kane’s body floated in the air. “Ah? Ah? W-What’s the big idea!!? AHHHHHHHH!!!” As he shrieked, Director Kane was inhaled by Kirby. Waddle Dee shouts. “You inhaled Director Kane! Are you okay, Kirby? Doesn’t your stomach hurt from inhaling that weird guy?” “Mm......Mmmm? It doesn’t......hurt......but......?” As he was saying, Kirby transformed with a loud pop. He became a form that wore a white suit, glasses, and a round reflector in his head. On his hands are a test tube with a seven-colored liquid and a beaker for some reason.

Waddle Dee blinked his eyes. “What happened, Kirby? You look......” “......” “Ah, could it be a Copy Ability......?” Waddle Dee clapped his hands. “Your appearance changed from inhaling Director Kane! But did that director have a special power? He didn’t look strong, not to mention how slow he is and can’t even fly in the sky......” To Waddle Dee in contemplation, Kirby said in a firm voice. “I’m tired of your yammering, Waddle Dee.” “......Huh?” “Don’t be a nuisance to my research.” Kirby emptied the liquid in the test tube to the beaker with a serious look. Waddle Dee was taken aback. “Ho......Hold on a sec......Kirby? What happened?” “Don’t call me so flippantly like Kirby. I’m Doctor Kirby.” “......Huuuuh!?” Waddle Dee sweated. “What are you saying!? Are you fine, Kirby!?” “Call me doctor!” “Y-Yes, doctor......” Waddle Dee became pale and whispered to himself. “What’s gotten into him? Don’t tell me that even Kirby’s under the enemy’s control like Bonkers......” Waddle Dee checked to see how Kirby was doing. With a frown, he would shake the test tube or mix the contents of the flask, but doesn’t seem to have any real hostility. “E-Erm......Doctor Kirby......” Said Waddle Dee nervously. “What is it, Assistant Waddle Dee.” “M-Me, an assistant!?” Although he was in a fluster, he decided to play along with it. “What are you researching, sir?” “You don’t know that and you're still an assistant!? You’re slacking off, Assistant Waddle Dee.” “Y-Yes, I’m sorry.” “Isn’t it obvious? I’m developing a medicine that will make all the foods in the world way yummier.” Waddle Dee sighed in relief. “Thank goodness! He’s just as usual!” “Hm? Did you say something, Assistant Waddle Dee?” “No, nothing.” Waddle Dee turned back and said to himself once again. “He’s not being controlled by the enemy. That’s great......but what use does this Copy Ability have? Only his speech became weird and it doesn’t look like he could use any special powers now......” “What are you murmuring about? Do refrain from whispering In the middle of researching.” “Yes, I’m sorry, doctor.” Waddle Dee turned to Kirby. “Erm......Doctor Kirby, it’s great to make all the foods in the world yummy, but isn’t the research to return Dream Land back to normal also important as well......?” “Oh? I see, that’s what it was. I of all people forgot all about it.” Doctor Kirby tucked away the test tube and the flask inside his white suit. “Let’s see here. We have to restore Dream Land that was reduced to a desolate wasteland to its bygone days and rescue the inhabitants who were brainwashed by the wicked company......that was our lofty mission, Assistant Waddle Dee.” “Y-Yes......precisely, sir.” “Off we go. Follow me!” Doctor Kirby barged into a nearby room. It looks to be the Haltmann Works Company’s reference room. All sorts of data are stored, but not a single employee was to be seen. It was after everyone fled in fear of Kirby the pink native attacking. “We analyze the data, Assistant Waddle Dee!” “Yessir!” Facing the large screen installed on the surface of the wall, Doctor Kirby pushed his glasses up and began operating the control panel at an incredible speed. Before Waddle Dee watching with his breath held, the screen began to shine and projected a complex floor plan. “Hmm, I’ve understood the structure of this building. I knew that this would be the command HQ. The commander is in the main control room just ahead!” “Huh......? You know that much?” “Obviously. Who do you think I am?” “Doctor Kirby......” “Exactly. I am Doctor Kirby, the most ingenious scientist in the galaxy! I can see through anything!” Doctor Kirby broke into a run as he shouted. “Ah, hang on......” While chasing him, Waddle Dee sighed in his heart. we’re starting off w immediate spoilers DHSFDGJF but bubbles is definitely my favourite track of all of them. it’s calming and peaceful and SAD esp considering That One Cutscene after you beat the final boss in birthright (the other two routes don’t have That One Cutscene... if you know you know but it BROKE ME)

2)  End of All (Sky, Land, Below)

this takes fates’ main theme (lost in thoughts) and fucking runs with it i cannot express in words how much i love this theme it’s beautiful and meaningful, it’s incredibly fitting for the final battle it just screams that this is the climax, that this is the end of your journey in the route

each version uses a different verse from lost in thoughts (hoshido verse for sky, conquest verse for land, revelation verse for below) which provides variety so even the ending song is different and fresh, but each version closes with the chorus of lost in thoughts before looping back to the beginning of the track. it’s just so................ mwah fe14 i love you

3)  Road Taken (Both Versions)

i decided to put both versions here as opposed to regular road taken here and road taken (roar) as the very next one sgfhdf i gotta save space there’s a lot of fe14′s soundtrack that i like lol i just. AAAAAA this music is so GOOD?? for literally no reason intsys how dare y

calm road taken is really beautiful and makes me a bit emotional since this is what plays after you make your choice on who you side with :’D this is my go to track for battles that aren’t main story (since you can choose what track plays) roar never fails to hype me up and i will never, NEVER get tired of hearing it it’s so fuckin neat to listen to esp w headphones

4) Lost in Thoughts (Heirs of Fate)

surprisingly it’s not the og lost in thoughts! but this version has the most emotional impact on me :’D this is azura’s son singing his own version and h..... matt mercer did a great job but what really sold this for me is when he sings the og chorus (starting with ‘you are the ocean’s grey waves’),,,, i’m honestly not sure if rena strober (azura’s va) is a back up singer here bUT IT SURE SOUNDS LIKE IT and the idea that he’s singing w his mom(’s spirit.. it’s a long story just know this is dlc) REALLY hits me in the feels

not to mention the credits (when this plays) shows stills of the kids reuniting with their parents,, kisaragi, m!kana and siegbert’s get me the most, in that order god i’m emo just thinking abt it hsfdshg

i won’t put other versions of lost in thoughts just bc.. i like them all and there’s. a Lot of versions fdhsg

5) Condemnation

this is by far my favourite boss theme (aside from endgame lmao), it’s intense and gets my blood pumping, hyping up the fight so fuckin much. god even the NAMING is fire. shame it’s so short but i love it nonetheless

ABSOLUTE CHAOS WITH PRETTYMUCH (PRETTYBRUNCH Ver.)

A/N: this very quickly became nothing more than a glorified food fight. enjoy, i guess pfft

• there's just something about being with your best friend(s) that can turn the quietest, most shy individuals into the most extroverted people to walk the earth • ‎video chatting with friends has a similar effect, especially when you haven't seen the other party for an extended amount of time • ‎what happens when you combine these two events is nothing short of absolute c h a o s • ‎in this case, the convening pals are you and the prettymuch boys. you had been out of town for a few weeks and wanted to meet up with them when you returned home. they were quick to agree and arranged for you to come over the day following your return (that way you'd have a little bit of time to yourself to relax and unpack your bags) • ‎the friends that the boys are video chatting with?? why it's none other than the beanz • ‎well, I suppose instagram lives don't really count as video chatting but you know what I meAn. it's still a viable form of communication and the absolutely adore interacting with the fandom. life's just been kind of hectic lately and they haven't had the chance to do much of anything with the beanz • ‎now that things have slowed down a bit and one of their closest friends is finally back home, why not do a live?? they all agreed it would be fun and you truly felt as if it would be a nice change of pace, too; interacting with people you love and who love you after weeks upon weeks of nothing but hecticness and disarray sounded like the perfect way to unwind • ‎ after a brief discussion, it was decided that you were to come over later in the morning (not everyone woke up at the same time and having you come over a bit later in the day ensured everyone was awake while also being well-rested) and would help them make brunch • ‎it would give you plenty of time to talk and catch up • ‎,,,, plus, they needed extra help cooking. edwin and brandon had unofficially been placed in charge of handling meals when everyone decided to sit down and eat together and sometimes it got just the teensiest bit tiring • ‎the moment you walked in the front door, though, you could see that things weren't going to be quite as laid back as you had assumed • ‎things were already lively and loud, all of the boys (except for caleb, who had answered the door when you rung the bell) having congregated in the kitchen. • ‎austin and edwin we're talking animatedly amongst each other, trying to set up the live. they were experiencing a series of technical difficulties (that really boiled down to some simple changes in the settings of the former male's phone. brandon and nick had begun to poke through the fridge, mulling over what they wanted to eat for breakfast • ‎it very quickly grew from a peaceful conversation to a loud (albeit friendly) argument over what kinds of breakfast foods were better • ‎you figured it would be best to help settle things between brandon and nick before things escalated further and became a full-blown food fight before you could even start cooking so you scurried over to them first, kicking off your sandals and dropping your bag by the door • ‎when they couldn't come to a decision after another solid minute and a half of conversation, you chose for them • ‎you had been dying for one french toast waffles. pair it with some bacon, fresh fruit, and hash rows and bAm, a whole meal • ‎pleased with your judgment, their bickering quelled • ‎at least for the time being • ‎it wasn't long before austin and edwin began the live and the six of you settled into everything • ‎you, Edwin, and brandon had moved behind the counter to start cooking, caleb was currently tending to music, and austin and nick were reading and responding to the growing stream of comments that trickled in • ‎it was pleasant enough at first. all of you were talking merrily amongst each other and answering whatever questions and comments happened to catch your eye • ‎and then caleb changed the song • ‎the action in and of itself isn't one that would bring about any unpleasant consequences • ‎it was the song itself that was the issue • ‎everyone has a hype song. this one just so happened to be a m u t u a l hype song • ‎meaning the moment everyone recognized what was playing, all hell broke loose • ‎caleb was the first to succumb to the excitement of the song. he had been pretty quiet this far, but the vibrations of the bass sank their talons into his being. he began to mouth the words, then sing along, then scream along as he gradually shifted out of his seat and began to dance • ‎nick followed suit shortly thereafter • ‎hip roll nation™ • catch half the boys jumping around and yelling 'Aye AYe aYe aYE ayE!" at the top of their lungs • it's like a frat party without the booze and loud freshmen • ‎brandon swayed along to the beat, eyes fluttering shut as he raised the whisk in his hand up to his mouth so that he could use it as a makeshift microphone • ‎which is fun, sure, but probably not the brightest thing to do when said whisk was just in a bowl of waffle batter • ‎needless to say, the front of his shirt was now caked in the liquid • ‎did he notice, though?? of course not • ‎because now he's got a whole performance going on and he's putting everything he's got into it • ‎which means he's really bustin down now. he's singing at the top of his lungs, he's hitting those runs, he's whipping around and throwing it back • ‎this also means that he has flung copious amounts of batter all over?? everyone?? • ‎this goes unnoticed by most but lordy lordy, he managed to get some in caleb's hair and that is a federal offense • ‎you k n o w the moment he feels a glob of sticky flour land in his hair he's gonna throw whatever he gets his hands-on • ‎given that there's an open container of eggs laying nearby and they fit so perfectly in the palm of his hand, it only makes sense that one is going to be airborne • he's huffin' and puffin', eyes firey as he lets out an exasperated "I know you didn't just-" and yeets the egg • ‎nothing ever works out the way they're intended, though, so it doesn't hit his initial target • ‎no, no, of course, it didn't • ‎you know who it d i d hit, though? • ‎y o u • ‎and you know what you're wearing?? • ‎a brand new shirt that is hands down the most comfortable article of clothing you own • ‎and now its sticky and wet and smells absolutely horrid • ‎and you know what you feel now?? • ‎nothing but pure, unadulterated rage. the fire of one thousand suns is blazing through your veins and you want nothing more than r e v e n g e • ‎aight, it isn't that intense but you reacted before you had the opportunity to process what had happened and develop a proper plan of action • ‎so, yeah, you started throwing food back • ‎you didn't settle for an egg or a spoonful of waffle batter • ‎you peeled open the lid of the whipped cream container that rested on the counter and sunk your hand in, scooping out as much of the sticky substance as you possibly could • ‎and, unlike some people, y o u d i d n t m i s s • ‎meaning that caleb is getting a face full of that sugary goodness • ‎by this point, no one is really paying attention to the comments on the live anymore (which were going insane, by the way. if everyone who viewed the live got a dollar every time someone said "hit edwin with the banana," they'd be rich) • ‎it wasn't long before all six of you were engaged in a battle of sustenance • ‎in layman's terms, a food fight • ‎it was?? horrible?? • ‎for a solid ten minutes, there was nothing in the air but choked cries and mushy food • ‎austin had managed to crawl onto the bar and was raining food down on everyone (quite the feat, actually, given how tall he is. if the ceiling were much lower, you were sure his head would have scraped the top of it). brandon and edwin had abandoned their positions beside you in favor of hiding behind the cabinets • ‎when their wooden shields didn't offer up enough protection, they sought out the lids of pots and pans for extra assistance • ‎caleb had armed himself in the hopes of deterring anyone from coming at him with more food • ‎his weapon of choice?? the kitchen towel, which he had wound tightly and was flicking at people whenever they got too close or looked like they were taking aim at him • ‎nick had taken up residence under the sink, hoping to wait out the fight • ‎which took an exceptional amount of time • ‎it wasn't until you had gone through about half of the food in the refrigerator that most of you came to your senses and called a truce • ‎it took a bit longer for the others to follow suit (cough cough, caleb and brandon cough cough) but they sooner calmed down as well • ‎the six of you could do nothing more than part for a while, faces flushed and hearts thumping erratically • when you cast your gaze across the room to the five men that were still strewn about like forgotten socks, you couldn't do much more than laugh • it reverberated off the walls, making everyone's bones rattle as warm grins split across their faces • it wasn't long before they, too, began to laugh • everyone but nick, that is • when the loud cries that tore themselves from everyone's throats had subsided into joyous laughter and lighthearted banter, he quietly crawled out from under the sink and stood, brushing as much food off of his clothing as possible • "hey, guys?" he'd chime, brows furrowing and lips drawing themselves into a thin line • "what are we gonna do about breakfast?" • all of you shared a look before moving toward the front door • you could shower and change later, you decided. none of you had been given the chance to eat and food was a lot more important than a few stains • no one noticed that austin's phone had been left on the counter, nor that the live stream hadn't ended.

The night has been advertised by multiple commercials in the civilian’s homes, and even dead bodies littered on some residence lawns. It’s dusk on a Thursday in February. The gates to the Fire and Ice Festival are lowered after hours of waiting in the biting Chicago tundra, and the crowd, over 4,000 strong, rushes in. Most are expecting a night of drunken freedom, cozied up by the outdoor heaters that promise a warm welcome, but some foresee the chaos bound to erupt across the lawn.

The first act takes the stage, and anyone who isn’t inebriated, courtesy of the open bar, is perceptive enough to realize that, no, that’s not Kanye West. Instead they are mesmerized by the lyrical lip syncher Dante Yeast—he looks enough like him, it’s better not to question it. One would think that the O’Sheas, Vasiles, and the Fausts all gathered in one spot would spell disaster, yet the evening rolls on without a hitch, despite the tensions slowly building in its periphery. Fausts members, too, are scattered across the ocean of bodies, but some faces are missing, figureheads who pull the strings.

 Maybe they’re absorbed by the crowd; maybe they thought better of attending, but there’s a sense of unease that settles in the air. It’s not quite right, but no one can put a finger on why. Another beer, and the thought is lost is the swell of the music—if they didn’t know any better, they’d think the bass replicates the sound of distant explosions.

We’re going to allow each person to choose two plot slots for two characters max .If there are any leftovers, we’ll let members know when they can sign up for thirds.

You’ll notice that some of these plots are public, so feel free to have your character react to them/ notice them even if they aren’t happening directly to your character. However, if something feels like it happened privately to another character, please check in with their Mun to see if it’s okay for your character to know.

To be clear: these are not the only things that happen to your character during this plot drop and you are more than welcome to cook up your own trouble.

CHARACTER A, CHARACTER B, CHARACTER C, are approached by the venue to play as impersonators for the opening act of the show. However, it turns out…they are the show along with other noteworthy impersonators. 

CHARACTER D & CHARACTER E end up camped out at the ticket box office on the other side of the lawn seats. They want a refund for the musical event after their cards were erroneously charged the next day on ADAM & EVE. Much to their surprise they come face to face with CHARACTER F( Faust ).

AUTUMN DAWSON is shitfaced prior to arriving at the music festival. They try to crowd surf before the opening act, and would get immediately dropped if NATHAN BURR didn’t catch their fall. 

CHARACTER I & CHARACTER J purchased tickets to meet the bands backstage. They are led by the security detail of the event to two tents filled with a scent of gunpowder. Upon further inspection, they find a crate of fireworks. Do what you will.

CHARACTER K jumps on stage to hijack the mic and accidentally falls and breaks their ankle.

CHARACTER L & CHARACTER M are dosed with PCP by a stranger serving up “free” cocktails. Everything is a blur and they both snap back to reality an hour later, but they’re in the middle of an intense fist fight.

EFFIE FAUST & CHARACTER O engage in a mud wrestling contest that is being judged by no one whatsoever. 

CHARACTER P & CHARACTER Q make out in a port-o-potty, but realize shortly after they’re locked inside. It’s up to CHARACTER R to either let them out...or tip them over.

CHARACTER S is mistaken as Pat Benatar. ASLI DEMIR drunkenly convinces them to go on stage to sing LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD.

 CHARACTER U & CHARACTER V go hard on the alcoholic beverages & psychedelic treats  at the start of the festival, by the end of it neither of them know where their shoes or wallets are. 

CHARACTER W finds their soulmate in a drunken stupor and grinds on them for the better half of two hours, only to realize the grindee is ZHI ROU, who has been uncomfortably shifting away from them this entire time. 

CHARACTER Y breaks all of their glow sticks and covers themselves in the liquid. It’s all fun and games until that shit starts to burn. CHARACTER Z does their best to quench CHARACTER Y with every bottled water they can find.

 CHARACTER A1, CHARACTER B1, & CHARACTER C1 are hired security guards for the event. They have no clue who hired them to do it. 

INGRID VASILE  starts to overdose on COCAINE. LEV VASILE notices their struggle and assists them to the med tent. DOMINIC MURPHY is around the med tent and notices the commotion. 

 CHARACTER  F1 tries to charge their phone using the musical equipment & gets electrocuted. Also it starts to play the most recent song listened to on their phone which is SONG OF THEIR CHOICE. 

GRIFFIN DYER is held up at security when they try to enter the venue, because they tried to smuggle in a small animal. CHARACTER H1 isn’t really security and jacks the animal instead.

SERENITY MICHAELS starts to question their sanity when they see a small animal run in circles in front of them and jet off towards the direction of the port-o-potty. 

RACHEL BYRNE feels something small and furry scaling the back of their dress, and, assuming it’s someone’s hand, slaps DAHLIA CAVALLI in the mouth before the small animal scurries away and they have to apologize.

CHARACTER L1 chases the small animal and just when they are sure they’ve caught it, the animal bites them on the neck. CHARACTER M1, who is higher than a motherfucker and hallucinating, sees CHARACTER L1 cradling their neck and automatically assumes a vampiric transformation is happening. CHARACTER L1 has to survive the following attack from a stranger with a pocket knife.

CHARACTER N1 is on their fifth drink at the venue. They hear a loud slurping noise, only to find the small animal lapping their beer in hand. Out of surprise they scream which causes the animal to shit on their hand and run away. CHARACTER O1 looks on in amazement, wonder, and terror as CHARACTER N1 wipes their hand on an unknowing CHARACTER P1. CHARACTER O1 is conflicted if they should say anything but takes a Snapchat video of the whole scenario anyway. It goes viral on Tik Tok the following evening.

The small animal finally gets caught by SANTIAGO PEREZ in a battle that lasts 10 minutes. The small animal is then given to CHARACTER R1 whom they assume is the owner. 

CHARACTER S1 is lost to the world, and passes out directly in front of CHARACTER T1 that had just spent twenty minutes in line for a cup of water. The cup of water is spilled on top of CHARACTER S1.

NAOMI WASHINGTON & CHARACTER V1 become instant buddies when they chant to the sound of “SHOTS” around the crowd. IRINA KOSHKIN takes this literally and pulls out their gun ready to fire. 

CHARACTER X1, CHARACTER Y1, CHARACTER Z1 all show up to the venue wearing the same exact outfit. You have declared them your number 1 enemy for the entirety of the music festival. 

CHARACTER A2 is high as fuck and thinks they’re making a flower crown for CHARACTER B2…..except it’s a crown of shrooms instead. CHARACTER B2 wears the crown, but has to swat CHARACTER C2 away who keeps trying to eat them. 

CHARACTER D2, CHARACTER E2, CHARACTER F2 suffer from dehydration. They try to find help at the med tent, but they can’t find where it is. 

ROSA LEON gets handsy with the bartender at the open bar and leads them away for a quick fuck, allowing RYAN HAYES and CHARACTER I2 to raid the bar freely.

 CHARACTER J2 is the aforementioned bartender and realizes a moment too late their station is being cleared out. Instead of returning to their position, they throw on some neon bracelets and join the party.

 CHARACTER K2 is doing some sick backflips in the middle of the crowd and are called out by the currently performing act mid-set for drawing attention away from the stage. CHARACTER K2 does another backflip to retaliate, but accidentally kicks CHARACTER L2 in the face.

JESSE VALENCIA hijacks a ELECTRIC BLUE STRATOCASTER from the backstage, and they are not caught. 

DAVUT DEMIR feels like they’re being watched and finds a silhouette with a rifle narrowed in on them perched upon a nearby building. They quickly retreat to find OPHELIA O’SHEA and P2 and warn them about the occurrence, who realize there are multiple snipers surrounding the pavilion. 

CHARACTER Q2 swears they heard a sound of explosions over the music, being in front nearest to the stage. They grab the microphone and scream, “WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE.” CHARACTER R2 & CHARACTER S2 start to openly panic. 

CHARACTER T2 (O’Shea) gets into a physical altercation with CHARACTER U2 (Vasile). They don’t stop until one or the other is knocked unconscious. 

ANDREA REED & BIRDIE MENDOZA try to leave the event, but notice that they’re trapped in the auditorium. CHARACTER X2 makes it to their vehicle, but is stuck in place by the surrounding vehicles around them. Unable to escape fully, they return back to the venue. 

CHARACTER Y2 hates their life at this music venue, because they’re stuck behind a rather sweaty individual. Their sweat keeps hitting them in the face, and at one point, they catch it in their mouth. It incites a ferocious bout of vomiting, and CHARACTER Z2 is trying to help, thinking they’ve been drugged, but CHARACTER Y2 can’t even explain what it is that made them sick.

 TATIANA BLANTER is hit with a spare bullet, but no one is able to find where the source is. As no one around seems to have their gun out. CHARACTER B3 conceals their weapon perfectly. 

 NOVA DEVERAUX suffers a panic attack due to the crowd gathered, and clings onto CLARA DAVILLA who is unable to get them to the med tent.

 CHARACTER E3 feels something warm splash on their face. They are unsure if it’s warm beer or urine. They’re pretty sure it’s warm beer, but remain conflicted the rest of the festival. CHARACTER F3 offers the shirt off their back for CHARACTER E3 to wipe the liquid off their face. 

 CHARACTER G3 is doing photography for the event, but realizes midway through the show that the performers aren’t who they say they are. They spot a face they know to be Faust affiliated in the crowd and scurry off toward the exit, only to be stopped by CHARACTER H3 (Faust) at the door.

MILES ST CLARE is the first to notice the lack of Fausts at the start of the music venue. They make their way to the police station in hopes of figuring it out, but instead they encounter burning police cars and chaos.

My Thoughts on Blue October: A Two-Way Personal Narrative

This post has no point or thesis it’s literally just me talking about music that I like because I think it’s interesting.

Anyways.

I was making a playlist for work the other day, and in the process I rediscovered some Blue October songs I have on my ipod. And then I rediscovered all of the Blue October songs I have on my ipod because...I have a lot. 

And it’s pretty much my favourite music (for the most part). 

Blue October was a weirdly prominent part of my youth, so it makes sense that I would have an attachment to their music (people tend to like the music they grew up with). But even then, re-listening to those albums fills me with a lot more satisfaction than other songs from my childhood/adolescence. From ages 11-16-ish, my favourite band was The Killers, with Blue October in second place. I still like a lot of Killer’s songs, and they have a lot of nostalgic value, but when I’m listening to Blue October’s music...like....it really, genuinely holds up to me.

Which is weird, because most of my current faves and older faves were either pop or soft-rock (with the sub-genre of “edge” in my early teens). 

Blue October is classified as “alternative rock” which I think is just the professional way of saying “fucking wild.”

I’ve always joked that if some songs are “edge” then Blue October is “the whole knife.”

But that’s the thing; even though they’re understandably known for their kind of raw intensity, at least among the fan base, the albums tend to have a fair bit of variety both musically and lyrically. I often think of the lyric from “Inner Glow”: “So here's a preview shove it under old-new / Or call it rock or pop or bach or fuck / Goddamn where did we go wrong / Now there's a category for every song.” Even though the band is kind of unhinged in terms of genre, each album very much has its own personality despite the different tones of each song.

By the time Approaching Normal came out (when I was around 14) I had kind of put together a narrative with each album. It wasn’t really a clear-cut story based on the lyrics of every song, but rather a series of emerging themes and events that each album put extra focus on:

Consent to Treatment: Dealing with psychosis and frustration.

History for Sale: Continuing to struggle with mental illness while also thinking about romantic and sexual relationships.

Foiled: Appreciating and/or longing for loved ones.

And yes, I know that The Answers is technically their first album, but I only know 3 songs from that one and didn't love them enough to seek out the whole album.

Personal context: I started listening to Blue October at a relatively young age because they were one of my dad's favourite bands and he would blast their albums in the car. He correctly assumed that I, a sheltered 10 year old, wouldn't put together that some of the songs were about drugs and suicide. He would always skip the more sexual and violent songs though. He aint irresponsible.

So basically those first few albums just became part of my internal music library since I heard them so much. I remember the first song of theirs that I really noticed on its own was “The Answer,” and after learning that it was Blue October singing that song, my interest in them grew slightly more independent. 

When I was about to enter my early teens, I developed an interest in psychology (most notably psychosis) after watching A Beautiful Mind. After that I became even more interested in the lyrics from Consent to Treatment and History for Sale, and grew more attached to these albums that I was already very familiar with and fond of.

Foiled was and continues to be my favourite album of theirs, though. It has the largest variety of music and a lot of the lyrics are really interesting. 

I almost think it was kind of inevitable that this is the album that would get popular. “Hate Me” keeps true to their style, but it still has mainstream appeal. It’s...not the whole knife, but it still has a good melody and good lyrics. 

“Into the Ocean,” which is my favourite song of theirs, is fucking perfect for mainstream appeal. It’s catchy, it’s pretty, it’s edgy, and it’s good. I HEARD IT PLAYING IN A HOTEL ELEVATOR LIKE A MONTH AGO. The song is so beautiful it’s almost enough to distract you from the fact that it’s about suicide.

It’s great.

The only song on the album that I would say is far outside of mainstream appeal would be “Drilled a Wire Through My Cheek,” but according to wikipedia, that made it onto the Saw III soundtrack, so there you go.

Foiled also might be the best showcase of the lead singer’s vocal talent. One thing that I really like about this band is how the vocals can be unbelievably smooth and wonderful, but the lead singer, Justin Furstenfeld, can just...fucking...flip his vocal chords inside out and fucking scream to a melody when the music calls for it.

It’s an amazing album that I would recommend to pretty much anybody who’s into punk or “alternative rock” or even just...music. 

ALSO I have to talk about the s t r i n g s.

I legitimately think that Blue October’s music sounds so different and resonant because, even though it’s a lot of intense hard rock, there is so. Much. Violin.

Sometimes the violin will overpower the guitar, or maybe even straight up replace the guitar in some places. It’s unique and great and it sounds fucking amazing. I love that fucking violin. 

So I’m really invested in both the music and the Narrative of Blue October albums by the time I’m 13-14sh; right when Approaching Normal drops.

This album is...different...ish.

Like, I don’t necessarily think it’s more intense than their other albums, but it’s...angrier.

Approaching Normal also apparent themes, much like its predecessors: the birth of a daughter and a crumbling marriage. However, unlike the previous albums, the lyrics on this one become a lot more literal. The writing isn’t as good as far as the words go. As for the music...eh. I like “Should Be Loved” quite a lot, but I feel like the vocal performance is at odds with the melody. Most of the album is either just okay or actively bad. 

It’s...an uncomfortable album. The Narrative has become too overwhelming and I would argue too personal. 

There’s less violin.

And

whoo boy.

Okay, I literally just found out there was a censored version of this album like 6 seconds ago because I’m looking stuff up on wikipedia, but, of course, me and my dad got the uncensored version because we’re not w i m p s.

So, thank fuck by this point in my life I had my own ipod and my dad listened to music on his computer, so we heard this album independently from each other. 

Dude, I first heard the song “The End” at like 3 in the morning as a very sheltered and very very squeamish 14 year old.

I

could not sleep.

I literally took the song off of my ipod so I wouldn’t have to even think about it.

Yeah...this album didn’t get played in the car often.

It’s amazing how Foiled finally got the band off of the ground and then like 3 years later they come out with this album that is not nearly as easy to market. My local radio station used to have a show called “wired or fired” where they would play new songs and the audience would vote on whether or not it sucked. “Dirt Room” was featured on there and the reception was nooot positive. 

So fast forward another two years and Any Man in America comes out.

I fucking hate this album.

Actually the sad thing is I technically like more songs on this album than on Approaching Normal, but I just haaaaate it conceptually and in practice. 

The lyrics are even more literal and more personal than on Approaching Normal, and the Narrative picks up right where that one left off. The theme of Any Man in America is a very very messy divorce and custody battle that Justin Furstenfeld was going through. 

It is a Hard Yikes.

The misogyny in this album is overwhelming. And you can argue like “hey...the guy has bipolar disorder and is just working through his emotional problems” or whatever, but...he still dedicated an entire album to basically cursing at this woman. But what really turns my stomach is how much this album can and will resonate with every joe-shmoe misogynist going like “yeah haha women suck the feminists are taking over make me a sandwiiiiiich” like alskdfkhgkajhdkfjskf I DON’T THINK THAT’S THE ALBUM’S INTENTION BUT IT WILL DEFINITELY SPEAK TO THAT CROWD EVEN IF THAT WASN’T THE POINT.

But hey, shout out to “The Money Tree” and “The Follow Through” for actually being good songs and also bringing back that violin. 

So yeah. Blue October just kind of fell off of my radar after that, until another two years pass and I catch wind of Sway coming out. I was kinda like “eh, they’ve already jumped the shark,” but then I heard the single “Bleed Out” before the album’s release and...I didn’t love it, but I liked it. It sounded more like Foiled and less like Any Man in America. So I got on the hype train.

And I’m glad I did. I bought the album digitally and burned it onto a CD for my dad, and it was the first time in a while that he had an actual Blue October CD in his car, instead of just the best selection on a USB.

It’s the most tonally similar to Foiled, although I don’t think it’s as strong  as that album. That could be a nostalgia bias, but I do legitimately think the melodies are less interesting... and that violin continues to get downplayed. I miss it. I miss the violin.

The Narrative continues, but thankfully the lyrics have gotten less literal. I would say the theme of this one is “healing and starting over.” “Sway” is a pretty ballad and I love “Angels in Everything.” The album as a whole is just...nice. But it still has some of that edge/whole knife thing going for it. The sex and drugs aint absent. 

So I liked this album. 

Fast forward another few years, to a Renee that hasn’t listened to Blue October songs in a while and also doesn’t really listen to the radio that much anymore. I’m randomly in the car with my dad when I hear a fucking Blue October song on the radio. A new one. I could tell it was them because Furstenfeld’s voice is very distinctive. Out loud I’m just like “Is...is this Blue October?????????” Partially because I didn’t know they had a new album out, but mostly because this was the first time I’d heard a new Blue October song get radio play in my city since fucking 2009 when “Dirt Room” was on Wired or Fired.  

The song was “Home,” which was also the title of the album. My dad ended up buying it for me for Christmas that year. The album reminds me more of Sway than any other, but I do prefer more songs on it. “Heart Go Bang” is great and sounds like it came straight off of History for Sale and “I Want It” is fantastic in my opinion. I like “Coal Makes Diamonds,” I like “Houston Heights” and “Leave it in the Dressing Room,” and I really like “Home.” 

(Still want more violin, though.)

I would say that the Narrative/theme of this album is love and family. This album was written after Furstenfeld remarried. Before Sway came out, his girlfriend apparently told him to stop being a piece of shit and get sober or she was going to leave and take their unborn baby with her.

So he did.

I really want to know more about this woman, because she’s kind of my hero at the moment.

The second last song on the album, “Time Changes Everything” feels like it’s about letting go of that battle he was fighting with his ex. It’s conceptually comforting, if that is indeed the case.

The funny thing is, I thought this album kind of put the Narrative in a nice little bow. Like, the most dramatic part is over and now this story can have a happy ending.

Which is why it came as an extra-super-double shock when I found out two days ago that Blue October released another album over a  y e a r  a g o.

This is what I get for not listening to the radio.

I have not listened to this album yet, and the reviews posted on wikipedia are positive but still mixed. Like, people saying it’s poppy and mainstream but also saying it still has edge, etc.

I’m a little afraid of listening to it, because I’m not sure what direction their music has taken, or if it’ll become too same-y to other stuff on the radio.

We’ll see.

When I finally listen to it I might post a review or something.

But from what it sounds like, the album is mostly positive in terms of messages and themes, and that’s comforting to me.

Okay.

Those are my thoughts on Blue October.

They...probably are my favourite band, despite the problems I have with some of their music.

I kind of made this post to put into words why/how this music is so important to me, but it’s genuinely hard to describe. I’ve done my best, but at the end of the day...I just really dig this music.

A/N: So...I’ve had this idea in my head for a while now and I finally got the time to execute it, thanks to the urge to also participate in @bang-tan-bitch‘s writing challenge! Some may know I have past experience in law enforcement, so this is a piece that’s very near and dear to me; some elements that I have been through are in this story. Rather than a typical “scary” Halloween story, I wanted to portray a realistic type of fear with the reader and show the adversity that can come in working in a job like this. I hope it’s enjoyable :)

Summary: It’s a quiet patrol day with your partner Hoseok and everything is good in the world. That is, until your radio goes off and you’re called into battle every child’s worst nightmare, but is it really real?

“Officer Jung!” you finally lost your patience, your hands slamming on the dashboard in front of you. Hoseok jumped at your outburst, his eyes darting between your face and the device in his hands. You sighed, touching his shoulder in apology.

“There’s no need to say every car’s speed limit that the speedometer catches.” Hoseok smiled sheepishly, adjusting himself in the tight space of the passenger seat.

“Sorry, I just don’t want to mess up when our probation is so close to ending.” He chuckled and your lips pulled up into a reassuring smile.

“Don’t worry Hoseok, I’ve been your training partner since day one, if I really wanted to fail you I would’ve done it long ago.” Hoseok just laughed, giving you a wink and retuning back to his work.

You and Hoseok had been assigned training partners since day one. Of course, the limited number of female police officers in the force left you the odd one out during partner assignments, leaving you to be paired up with one of the males. But you wouldn’t have it any other way. Hoseok was ecstatic about your shared profession, and treated you the same as he would treat the guys. He constantly had to be doing something though; he was one of the fidgety types. So, on slow day-shift mornings, you were more than happy to take the driver’s position (you got more leg room as an added bonus) while Hoseok played with the speedometer as you waited in your patrol car for something to happen.

A long, drawn out beep rang throughout the car and Hoseok’s eyes trained on the communication radio.

“Hey, it’s a BOLO.” You commented, the sound all-to-familiar for your ears. BOLO’s usually consisted of stolen vehicles, missing persons, and occasionally runaway thefts; nothing major for you to speed towards if it wasn’t happening in your assigned part of the town. Although, the horse stuck in the middle of the road was certainly an interesting BOLO call to go to. Everyone in the Seoul Police Department went out to witness it, even your shift Lieutenant who just laughed and said:

“Now I’m no horse whisperer, but maybe animal control has one on duty tonight.”

“What does BOLO stand for?” Hoseok turned towards your frame in the drivers’ seat, turning up the volume of the radio. Quizzing each other on the fly was normal, as knowledge tended to get rusty on boring patrol days.

“Be on the lookout.”

“Very good.” he smiled, placing a finger to his lips so you both could hear the radio transmission.

“SPD to all units, we have reports of a 13P, male, near the corner of 43rd and 2nd streets. Witnesses believe him to be armed.” Hoseok’s face blanked and he looked over at you, your expression hard.

“That’s around where I went to secondary school.” Hoseok whispered. “It’s not that far from here.”

You handed him the radio mic, putting the patrol car in gear and speeding out of your hiding place behind a billboard and onto the road. You turned on your red and blue lights, speeding past the cars that let you over. There was probable cause, and even if it was just a false alarm, getting to the school before a possible shooting happened was pertinent.

“SPD this is Tango Unit 309, we’re 10-51 to the 13P’s 10-20. Any other intel on the suspect?” Hoseok spoke into the radio and almost immediately a frantic response came back through from the communication center.

“SPD to Tango Unit 309?”

“Go ahead.”

“Reports of shots fired are coming from the secondary school by civilians.” At those words you sped up even faster, making your sirens even louder to get people to move the fuck out of the way.

“How far out is the closest back up, SPD?”

“Closest backup we’re tracking is in the next zone over, about 10 miles out.” Hoseok cursed when you pulled off the main road and onto the side streets. You and him would be going into an active shooter situation alone. You turned off your lights and sirens when you were a block away from the school, jumping out of the car. Hoseok followed you and spoke into his portable radio.

“Tango Unit 309 to SPD?”

“Go ahead.

“We’re 10-97 on scene, requesting low radio traffic with high monitoring.”

“10-4 Tango Unit 309.”

You both approached the school quickly, the combat boots on your feet suddenly feeling heavier than before. The air was eerily quiet for an October morning. The Halloween decorations in the front windows of the school were almost satirical of the situation you and your partner were in, but you couldn���t help but crack a smirk at the poorly drawn skeletons and witches smiling at you through the glass. The doors of the school showed no signs of a forced entry. Which meant the shooter most likely just walked right in without a trouble, if he was in the school.

“Hoseok.”

“Yeah?”

“I can hear your nervous breathing from here, calm down.” Hoseok took a deep breath, his hand resting over the pistol on his belt.

“I don’t hear any gunfire.” Hoseok commented.

“C’mon, we should patrol the perimeter first, since there’s no gunfire, then we’ll enter and- “

The silence was broken when three loud pops sounded in the air. You heard rather than saw Hoseok draw his pistol and you did the same. Your trusty old 9-millimeter gun you called Stiglitz had gotten you out of more than one tricky situation, and this would have to be just another one of those times.

“Hoseok, on me.”

Hoseok moved behind you, grabbing onto your shoulder and squeezing it firmly to indicate he was ready to proceed. You took a deep breath to calm your rapid heartbeat and opened the front doors of the school, quickly moving into the immediate danger zone.

The main hallway was shaped into a three-way intersection, Hoseok quickly cleared the right side while you cleared the straight and left hallways. You exhaled.

Focus.

“Clear.” You told Hoseok.

“Clear.” He joined back up on you, his hand on your shoulder providing you stability as you went down the straight hallway. All the classroom door’s windows were covered in black paper, but scattered green dots flashed against the darkness and you reminded yourself to breathe. These students were safe. But where was that bastard? And why was it so quiet when gunfire sounded only a moment ago?

“Do you hear that?” Hoseok whispered. You quickly cleared the end of the hallway, the box-like design of the school making it easy to clear the building. You exhaled again.

Focus.

You tuned into the noise Hoseok was talking about and your eyebrows furrowed. Music. It was soft guitar with whistling echoing throughout the hallway, and it had popish undertones. It sounded familiar, almost as if it was a Top Ten hit at one point or another.

“It’s echoing,” you whispered; there was only one building you could think of that could echo like that.

“Hoseok, where’s the gym?”

Before he could respond another gunshot rung out, this time, accompanied by a scream.

You inhaled and you ran towards the noise, leaving Hoseok behind.

Run.

Run.

Run.

The long hallway seemed endless and you urged yourself to go faster with the pace of Hoseok’s thumping footsteps behind you. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw a figure standing in one of the adjourning hallways to your right.

“Hands above your head, do it now!” You yelled, and instantly the figure raised his arms high, his hands empty. He didn’t move towards you. Not a threat, most likely a student

Focus.

“Get on your knees and don’t move! Jung, one on the right!” you ran past the figure and trusted Hoseok to take care of the person in the hall. The music was getting louder, making you run faster; the cheerful melody and handclapping making your stomach churn. Suddenly the large double doors of the gym came into view as the music reached it’s crescendo. You burst through the doors, your gun drawn and ready to fire.

“Seoul Police Department, show me your hands!” you screamed as loud as you could. You could hear your heart ringing in your ears against the music, the sweat beading on your forehead from the exhortation of running when your eyes finally surveyed the scene.

Focus.

This was where the music was coming from, but the gym was empty, the bleachers were pushed into the walls, making the room seem much larger than it really was. You traced the perimeter of the room with your gun, every corner visible from where you stood in the only doorway. No one was in here. Nothing was in this gym except for a stereo player in the middle of the floor. You lowered your gun as you moved towards it, scowling at the machine as the song started to repeat itself.

You finally remembered why you knew the song. People talked about its controversy and fear when it had come out on the radio, and some even thought that it was what started the rise of serious mass school shootings. It made you feel sick and your head pounded.

You bent down and shut the music off, letting out the breath that you were holding in your lungs. Your senses were hyper aware as you stood and your eye twitched from scanning and rescanning the gym. You were prepared to go back out and find Hoseok when the doors of the gym slammed against the wall.

You turned around, the breath you took in whooshing out of your throat when you saw who it was. Everything around you seemed to move in slow motion. Your eyes trained on the shooter, and though his face was covered, his eyes told you everything. His wants, his desires, his dreams, and the woman in his grasp was struggling against him. You could see her lips moving and her eyes were frantic, but you couldn’t hear a word of it. The only thing you could hear was your heartbeat and the remnants of the music that was playing just seconds before.

“Yoongi?”

 ~*~

“Now, hold your hands steady.” Yoongi told you, his hands resting over yours against the gun. Even though you wore the protective sound-muffling headphones, you could still hear his smooth voice through the cheap plastic. Yoongi pressed his chest closer against your back, moving your arms up a fraction.

“You won’t shoot the target with your arms that far down; the gun should be eye level to you.”

“Eye level, got it.” You confirmed.

“Now, look down the barrel of the gun, focus on the target beyond it.” Your eyes trained on the cardboard cut-out forty yards away, the farthest you had gone out before. Most couldn’t get the forty-yard target straight-on on their first try. You were determined to be the first one in your class to do it.

“Breathe in.” Yoongi took in a deep breath behind you. “And squeeze the trigger slowly. Focus.”

You breathed in, focusing on the target in front of you. The hours on the shooting range and the bleating sun on your skin finally started to take its toll. Your khakis were much too hot, and your clammy hands made it difficult to keep the gun trained solely on the head of the target. You forgot to breathe out.

“Y/N, princess, you’re shaking.” Yoongi lowered your arms, keeping the ready-to-fire gun pointed to the ground in case your trigger finger slipped. You released the pressure in your chest, making your safety goggles fog just for a couple seconds.

“I can’t-“

“Now don’t you finish that statement, I know you can do this. You’ve shot perfectly every time at the twenty, thirty, and thirty-five-yard marks. What’s five more yards? Try again.” Yoongi held your arms up again.

You re-focused your sight on the target, taking a deep breath in.

“Now, squeeze, slowly.”

Your finger slowly pressed against the trigger until you felt the resistance of the final push to finally release the bullet from its chamber.

“Exhale, Y/N.”

And you listened to Yoongi’s words, making the final push as you breathed out. The bang from the gun made you jump after minutes of silence and you could feel rather than see Yoongi’s smile when he removed his hands from yours, squeezing you tight around the waist as you put the safety on the gun. You put the gun back into its holster on your belt, making sure it was secure before you turned around to return Yoongi’s embrace.

“I knew you could do it. I can’t wait to brag to my men that my girl was the only one in the new class to shoot the forty-yard on their first try, not to mention it was a perfect headshot.” He smirked into your hair and you smiled into his skin, despite the sweat dripping off of him.

“Yoongi. Thank you for always helping and supporting me.”

“It’s always my pleasure, Y/N.” Yoongi patted your back, placing a small kiss on your forehead before releasing you.

“Now, let’s get back to practicing Cadet.” He winked at you and you couldn’t help but giggle at his flirtatious smile.

“Of course, Officer Min.”

You saw the apples of his cheeks rise into a smirk, and his right hand moving towards his hip. Yoongi always had a quick hand when it came to shooting. You thought a second too long, you didn’t focus. You let your heart overcome your mind and you ducked once you heard the bang of Yoongi’s gun. But the shot still grazed your shoulder and you gasped at the sharp pain. You drew your gun as you fell back towards the ground, and once you felt your back hit the cold wood, you aimed.

Bang.

Bang.

Bang.

Bang.

Four rounds, all in the head. Just like he taught you how to do. You watched Yoongi fall to the ground, the woman he held ran away from him and towards you. You had shot Yoongi. Yoongi, the man you had loved. The man you loved more than life itself; you had shot him.

“Officer L/N? Hey, it’s done, it’s over.” The woman sat in front of you, helping you sit up.

“I sh-shot Yoongi. I shot Yoongi.” You mumbled.

“Shit, you’re going into shock,” the woman cursed, grabbing the radio off your hip. Suddenly the gym was too full, there were too many people, too many cameras and noises and Hoseok came running towards you.

“Hoseok, I shot Yoongi.” You told him as he pulled you into his embrace.

“Hey, don’t cry. We did excellent Y/N, excellent! The Lieutenant said our performance has been the best one yet, I’ll be surprised if we don’t get full marks.”

“Hoseok…Y-Yoongi, I shot him.” You sobbed and Hoseok didn’t know what to do with you. He turned towards the woman that stood beside you, his eyes frantic.

“Y/N, come sit down.” The woman led to you a seat they pulled out for you. With your eyes focused solely in her, her face was too familiar not to recognize “Y/N, breathe.”

You exhaled and looked up at her.

“Sarge, i-is Yoongi okay?”

“Of course he is sweetie, he’s just getting cleaned up now, a little got in his hair is all.” She laughed in a way to reassure you, but the clear panic and worry on your face caused her to stop.

“Y/N!” you looked up to see Yoongi running towards you, and even though your legs felt weak and your head was pounding, you ran towards him. Yoongi caught you in his arms, his hands running through your hair as you cried into his shoulder.

“Yoongi, Yoongi,” you repeated his name like a mantra, gripping onto him for your life.

“I’m here baby, I’m here and I’m okay. It wasn’t real, it wasn’t real.” He sighed into your hair. “They were just blank shots, they were not real. Look at your shoulder princess, look.” He pulled away from you and you looked down at your shoulder. There was blue ink splattered across your police department lapel. The area hurt like hell, but there was no blood, you were okay.

“See? You were just shooting blanks, just little paint ball bullets that sounded real. You did so good princess, you even got paint in my hair from missing the protective gear.” Yoongi chuckled, placing a kiss on your forehead. “Just like how I trained you to do, you did amazing.”

“You’re okay?” you asked.

“Of course I am. I’m sorry I couldn’t tell you I was in your final exam scenario, Sergeant Kim said if I did you’d refuse to do the scenario and fail the academy.” Yoongi pulled you back into his embrace.

You took a deep breath in and let it out slowly, your warm breath fanning over Yoongi’s shoulder. He was right, of course. He couldn’t have told you, it would’ve been unfair to your fellow students to have some sort of advantage to your final exam scenario. The scenario that counted for forty percent of your final police academy grade. The make or break point in becoming a real police officer. You looked at the gun on your hip, it wasn’t yours. Just a normal practice one. You were so caught up in the scenario, so worried about eliminating the possible threat, so involved in the situation you forgot it wasn’t real. It was just an exam, just a scenario.

You sighed. “Please promise me I won’t have to shoot you again, please?”

“Don’t worry baby, you won’t have to do that again.” Yoongi assured you, “Your scenario was great, we were all watching and evaluating and Hoseok did well as your partner. Don’t worry, you’re not going to fail this.”

“I hesitated though, when I saw you. I didn’t want to hurt you.”

“But you did it princess, you overcame that fear to stop the “shooter” from hurting even more people. You didn’t hesitate coming into the building, and you did everything by the book.” Yoongi caressed your cheek, dropping his voice, “You’re going to become an Officer, Y/N, I promise.”

“Officer Min and Officer L/N, partners in crime, right?” you smiled and Yoongi placed a gentle kiss on your lips.

“Partners in crime, I promise you.”
