Fun fact, Father’s Day is celebrated in Colombia today as well.

Bruno loved his nieces and nephews. But as his gift became a burden, and he became more and more isolated from the town and his family. He didn’t have a desire to have kids of his own, for fear of passing on his stigma to his children. Or to risk them losing their childhood and youth to unbearable expectations.

But when Mirabel helped heal the family and the Villagers came to see him for the gentle, albeit odd man he was. Bruno reservations weren’t as big as they were before. And when he met Elena his reservations died completely for he no longer was afraid of his future.

my fathers violence held me by the throat and it felt like love. my fathers voice has become the call of death, the reminder that i was always the daughter who had to hide in the night. i have scratched his touch to forget, i have locked the doors so that the night no longer frightens me, and i have left him behind. but ever so often, his language spills from me and it is the biggest paradox of my existence.

that his language, my tongue remembers like the water. but his name i tore from my throat so early on, a ripped muscle that never heals, occasionally bleeds. the blood pools at the end of my feet and the little girl who yearns for her father to say her name like she is worth something stares back at me in the mirror. i claw the mirror with a rage that blurs into his face.

am i my fathers daughter? a cracked mirror, a bleeding child, a dark room, but every time i speak his language, the muscle contracts, the bleeding slows, and it whispers, you were once a part of me, and a part of me i wish you never were. my father gave me two things— the violence of love and a liking to black forest cake.

On this Father’s Day, I’m just thinking about Dad!Levi and his daughter’s birthday party. Now that she’s turning four and has friends from her daycare, you’ve both decided to throw a party and invite friends as well as family. However, having the party at home was out of the question for Levi (“brats I don’t know running around our place and messing things up - absolute not,” he huffed.), so you chose an activity center instead. It was convenient, because they plan and prepare everything, but nothing was up to par with Levi’s standards. When you three arrive early to the party room, Levi immediately started scanning the room, decided it was, “not clean enough for my princess,” got his emergency cleaning kit from his car (yes, he has an emergency cleaning kit). and wiped everything down. Your daughter was ecstatic when all her friends arrived, and they all ran out to the playground to run and play. Levi’s eyes are like a hawk, making sure that nobody pushes his sweet girl down (or gets her new birthday dress dirty). When it’s time to open presents and a little boy grabs the new toy out of her hand, you can see Levi about to run over there, but you put a hand on his shoulder. “It’s ok, dear,” you say, calming him down, “she can share it right now - she’s got lot of other presents to open.”

He is beaming when the cake is brought out and everyone sings happy birthday - his girl’s little face full of joy as she blows out her four candles; but it changes to shock when he sees how the children tear into the cake, icing all over the mouths and hands. “Jesus…they’re like animals..” Levi mumbles under his breath as he hands them all napkins (which none of them use).

As the party come to an end, his little girl begs Levi to play tag with them, which of course he does (he can’t say no to her). However, the game quickly ends up with ALL the children chasing and finally dog piling him. The three of you drive home and he carries his sleeping girl in his arms into the house. You rub his back and tell him what a wonderful day this was, and what a great dad he is for entertaining all those kids.

He smiles, then shudders. “They were all…so sticky. I need a shower.”

Was threatened by a crime ring, the mafia, and a terrorist organization

Had multiple criminals tell her they would “get back” at her for this (even once who never made it to jail)

+2 for being a good wholesome guy, and a lawyer at that

+2 ALWAYS being there for Nancy

+2 actually giving her the freedom she needs to save the world over and over again

+2 Trusting her and loving her. And raising a BADASS teenage detective.
