Tumblr media
| summary: love between butler and his mistress and where they are now |
warning: implied smut : child birth :
She giggled quietly, as her lover planted kisses on her neck. Gently, leaving behind love bites in the process. “My…darling..you..tasted..absolutely..exquisite,” Sebastian said between each kiss he planted on her neck. She smiled placing her hand on his bare chest.
He stared down at with a dastardly grin on his lips. His eyes almost seemed to pierce into her soul. “Admiring the view?” She asked, and he smiled leaning down to kiss her on the lips again.
She wrapped her arms around the back of his neck, “My darling, sad to say but I must be returning to my duties,” He said, and she looked at him and pursed her lips.
She frowned, he leaned down planting a kiss on her forehead before kissing her on the lips again. “But, I would love to continue this later,” He said, and she smirked at him seductively before kissing him.
“Very well,” she said, she watched as he swiftly got out of bed and got dressed she smiled watching him get dressed. She’d never been this happy in her life since not before that fateful day. Then, Sebastian came along and as time went by she slowly developed feelings for the mysterious butler.
She didn’t know that it was fake, when she say Sebastian’s “dead” body on the ground. She couldn’t stop crying and seeing his dead body to help solve the mystery didn’t help at all. She took it upon herself to take care of the cats, inside the wardrobe.
She was an absolute wreck at the “funeral” but tried to stay strong for Ciel. But when the bell was rung she dropped whatever she was holding and immediately lunged at him as he emerged from the coffin. Sobbing and crying along with the other servants.
She was the one to take care of him once he along with Ciel and Snake, returned from the ship. Seeing that her aunt Angelina thought her how to suture up wounds she helped take care of Sebastian even though it wasn’t her job to do so.
She confessed her feelings to him, as she was bringing him back to health. She wasn’t bothered at all by the difference in their status, she cared for him and loved him and wanted to be by his side.
Sebastian at first found it highly inappropriate especially, with the fact her little brother is his master. As well on his mind the terms of the Faustian Contract, inevitably he’d consume her brothers soul and would presumably return to the demon realm.
He rejected her feelings saying that a butler and a master. Pursing a relationship would be highly inappropriate.
He watched as her smile faltered and she looked down, “V-Very, well I understand it would be inappropriate but that’s the thing I don’t really care.” She frowned, and then left his room so that he could rest.it was awhile before he eventually realized he too had feelings for her and they secretly pursued a relationship.
Our!Ciel quickly found out but was happy to see his older sister so happy for once.
( present )
“Why now?!” She screamed, in pain sweat running down her forehead as she pushed. Of all times for her to being going into labor why now?
When, the Real!Ciel revealed himself along with the Undertaker. And took his place as the rightful earl of Phantomhive. And when, Our!Ciel,Sebastian, Mey-Rin, Bard, Finny, and Snake. Are fugitives on the run.
Cries echoed throughout the room. Sebastian smiled, looking down at his wailing child. “Love, we have a beautiful baby girl.” He said, cradling the infant.
[Y/n] cried tears of joy seeing her newborn baby, her lovers arms. He placed the infant on her chest and she cooed over the baby.
“Lilith Angelina-Rachel Phantomhive,” She whispered, looking at her child. She had jet-black hair and (e/c) eyes and her fathers nose and ears she looked absolutely precious.
Sebastian and [Y/n], looked up hearing the commotion coming from outside the door. “Knock it off!” She heard, Our!Ciel shout at the servant wanting them to be quiet to let the two lovers quietly enjoy the birth of their newborn.
“I think they’ve waited long enough,” She said, gently rubbing her babies back. “Are you sure?” He asked, and she nodded looking at him.
She watched, as he walked towards the door opening. Everyone rushing into the room excitedly seeing the baby on [Y/n]’s chest. “Aw, look at her she’s so cute!” Finny cooed, looking at the baby.
“She looks just like Sebastian yes she does!” Mey-Rin cooed, and the baby slowly opened her eyes and admired the world around her.
“Would you like to hold her?” She asked, looking over at her little brother. He looked at her confused, “Why, would I want to hold your child?” He asked, and she smiled at him.
Eventually, he gave in and gently took the baby into his arms. She cooed and squirmed and he couldn’t help but stare down at his niece in awe. “What’s her name?” He asked, and she looked up at Sebastian and smiled.
“Lilith Angelina-Rachel Phantomhive,” She said, and he stared at her in absolute disbelief and then looked back down at his niece. She could’ve sworn she saw a single tear roll down the side of his cheek.

au of an au for mdzs where canon plays out exactly as it was supposed to except
wwx became a calamity after dying and cared for his coven of ghosts in yiling before mxy summoned him for revenge.
he still elopes with lwj after solving the corpse question
supreme ghosts have a similar ability to gods taking deputies, except since they're not sharing immortality they can have a lot more of them
wwx's "deputies" are (in order) jiang cheng, the wen remnants, luo qingyang, nie huaisang, mo xuanyu, jin ling, lan jingyi, ouyang zhizhen, lan sizhui, and lan wangji.
being a calamity's "deputy" means that you are soul bonded to them, with a kind of preternatural sense of the wellbeing of the entire coven.
one of the heavenly officials decides to fuck around with time, and only other heavenly officials were supposed to remember, except extremely strong ghosts and their covens also remember because there are TWO gods married to calamities, and calamities are weirdly cooperative with each other (hc, hx, wwx, & gL discuss trade agreements over tea and artistic process over alcohol).
thus like 75 people are now in the past.
wwx's child body cant stand the power his soul has and just kinda crumbles under the weight. thats mostly fine tho cause he can shapeshift.
of course he immediately comes up with a dastardly plan to inflict as much chaos onto the sects as possible while also protecting his loved ones at the same time. he gets in contact with the wen remnants (bigger and there's more of them) and slowly moves them over to yiling while he builds places for them to live on the mountain, and then offers the people of yiling a very good deal:
"we'll deal with all your ghost problems for free, and in exchange we get discounts on food, and you tell everyone who comes asking that the Yiling Wei sect has been here the entire time."
its almost too easy to set up, too. they forge some trade agreements and other documents to place in the other sects' files, waiting to be found, with ease, bc he knows what the filing for the jiang, lan, wen, and nie looks like, and part of the story is that the jin offended them so badly that they just stopped doing business with them altogether and also tend to actively hate them with few exceptions.
meanwhile, huaisang, qingyang, and wangji will reference the Yiling Wei and act like this is something everyone knows about, and jiang cheng catches on and starts doing the same.
wwx's plan is to drive them all insane by appearing out of nowhere and acting like he's been there the entire time. make them question reality.
wen popo, at a discussion conference: i'll be standing in for my grandson so he can participate in the games
jiang fengmian, initiating polite conversation: your grandson? what happened to your son?
wen popo, internally cackling: fengmian! are you so quick to discard changze like this?! for shame!!
jiang fengmian, who has never met this lady: what
wen popo: you know i trusted him when he said he wanted to stand by his sworn brother's side but if this is how you treat his memory after he was so unwaveringly loyal to you, only ever leaving for Cangse, the love of his life, then i'll have to have you stricken from the legacy registry!
wen popo, with unfaltering confidence: good evening wen-zhongzhu
wen ruohan, who has incurable face blindness: well met Wei-zhongzhu (do i know her???)
nie mingjue is the only one who's taking any of this well and thats solely because his brother has been spoon feeding him Yiling Wei propaganda for 13 years. lan xichen has a crisis because his baby brother eloped with a clan leader he met thrice and they're having a spring wedding.

since the shinazugawa brothers are my skrunklywunklybadopsies can i request a softyan!platonic!Sanemi and Genya hcs with a littlesister!reader who's mitsuri's tsuguko, basically a total sweetheart and proof that life is easier when your drop-dead gorgeous and have a fuckload of suitors but god had to be fair and make her a literal dumbass 😭+ tell me that Sanemi the type of brother to scare the everloving crap out of any dude that flirts with his sister
(anyways hope u become the most fabulous bitch around with a smoking hot partner who's like iguro and fat stacks of cash 💕💕😍😙)
Abkwiejsndjsk. I want Obanai so bad, don’t remind me. Leee criiiii, but anyway. Sanemi and Genya, right? Okay, I’ll try to the best of my capabilities for you, darling!
Yandere! Platonic! Demon Slayer Scenarios: Shinazugawa Sanemi and Shinazugawa Genya
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Shinazugawa Brothers were already way too overprotective over you from the beginning, this situation has only elevated their protectiveness… they lost everybody, besides you. Sanemi feels obligated to be with you and Genya all the time as you two’s older brother and Genya feels required to guard you in assistance of Sanemi
Neither brothers were okay with you becoming a slayer but they couldn’t resist your begging and your excitement over being a slayer, hurting you in anyway is not something they’ll tolerate so they end up reluctantly letting you join Genya to final selection as Sanemi becomes the Wind Hashira
When the Love Hashira, Mitsuri takes you under her wing as her loveable Tsuguko and accidentally ends up bringing in so many suitors for you after making you stand out so beautifully, your older brothers flip their shit and almost try to pull you out of Mitsuri’s care
Sanemi and Genya have a very similar view on you. They both love you so much and they can’t stand you getting taken away by anything so they both develop a maddening obsession with protecting you from the world itself. The world is a danger now, and they both will make sure they won’t lose their only remaining sibling
Sanemi chases away the many suitors that try to woo you from the sidelines as Genya pulls you from them physically, asking why you want to be wooed by some weirdo. Yes, both of the brothers have been following you and stalking you as often as they possibly can with their sanity-destroying mindset over you
Genya is very clingy and will never let go of you no matter what, whilst Sanemi just guards you like a aggressive father wolf guarding his babies. To them, you are far too young to get a husband and because you’re a slayer, those men could potentially be trying to exploit you
The Shinazugawa Brothers are equally delusional over your view on them, they genuinely believe on a shared level that you love them dearly. They can’t recognise the way you stare at them afraid of their extreme possessiveness and overprotectiveness over you. You can barely recognise Sanemi and Genya as your big brothers
Sanemi doesn’t want either you nor Genya to be a slayer but he is attachment over you two has grown to such a intense degree that he can’t keep himself away from you two anymore. You are his life and love, he needs the both of you with him and he will do whatever he must to keep that
Your formerly beloved big brothers never won’t ever try to ruin your beautiful, cheerful nature by making you find out about their dastardly tricks as your optimistic personality, in reality, keeps these brothers teetering at the edge of sanity but neither can stand the fact you’re very dimwitted, despite being so skilled and incredible
Sanemi doesn’t only just scares anybody that tries to talk to you, he sends death threats and raises his katana at them. Genya isn’t as bad as Sanemi, he is just more touchy and shovey over you as he will never let anybody touch you and barks them away
“Dokusha, don’t do anything stupid! Okay? I can’t lose you nor Genya, my life runs on you two… just… don’t mess up! I will make that bubblegum-haired idiot guard you if I must!”
“Little sister! Wait! Why are you going to go on a date with that guy? He seems a bit dangerous… you should just stay with me and Onii-san forever, you don’t need a man anyway!”

Bro why my brain gotta make ideas 24/7. Damn adhd wtf man.
Another au thing suggestion, idea, idk feel free to get inspired, but it's a crossover of tmnt 2012 and rottmnt.
I just- I can't get it out of my mind. Like what if Mud Dogs Dastardly Danny randomly found some turtle baby in, idk, an alley and adopted a reincarnated 2012 Donnie, basically becoming his mafia dad.
Like bro just pulls out a gun on people who threaten his turtle baby because they confuse Donnie for the other turtles or just cause he's in the mob...
And he steals stuff to support his scientific endeavors...
Then maybe throw in some friend drama where Don meets rottmnt Donnie and they become friends but Danny is kind of peeved about getting tricked by Raph still...
Or Don feeling uncomfortable because of his dad's mob stuff...
Maybe some resurfaced memories of his past life...
Maybe his brothers are also there but he never knows...
Just. I need it. I might make it. I will not stop anyone from making instead. I must be fueled.
Gib me Father!Dastardly Danny of Reincarnated!Donatello 2012.
Pls, I'm just gonna start randomly making doodles of this aren't I 💀 dammit

Chapter 2: House of the rising son
POV:(Y/n)
I still can’t believe that I'm here in New Orleans Pregnant with Klaus Mikaelson’s baby. Two months ago I could down a bottle of whiskey in two seconds flat and now I can expel my lunch in two seconds flat due to one of the many side effects of pregnancy. It’s hard to look at Klaus not to even mention talking. I wish he could at least have an adult conversation with me about this.
Tumblr media
I’m looking in the fridge in annoyance because there is barely any food, well there is but not what I wanted. “N/n just because you stare doesn't mean food will magically appear.” Hayley said sarcastically walking in the kitchen. “Well, I'm magically pregnant so why can’t food be.” “If Elijah was here, he probably get all the food you wanted.” “And you too Hayley.” “Yeah, well then where is he? He made this grand promise to us.” “I don’t know Halye's, but we’ll be okay.” When I finished that sentence, we heard a car door slam outside and we both grabbed iron pickers I guess for weapons. And we headed to the main foyer and a blond woman came in almost stomping.
“Who the hell are you?” Hayley asked the woman. “Oh, you must be the maids. My bags are in the car – get them, will you?” I stepped up. “Sorry to disappoint but not the maids.” “Right. You're that werewolf girl my brother, Klaus, knocked up. I was expecting to see some kind of supernatural, miracle baby bump. Guess you're not showing yet. It's Hayley, isn't it?” She said looking at Hayley. I was a little embarrassed. I raise my hand. “Um actually that would be me, Y/n.” She looks me up and down. “Huh interesting he doesn’t usually go for your type.” Well, that feels great.
“I see You have your brother's manners.” Hayley said, stepping in front of me. “And his temper, too, so watch it. Where's Elijah?” “We don’t know he’s been gone since the night we got here he was making promises about protecting us and then gone.” I answered her question. "Elijah is not just any vampire, and he doesn't break promises. Which means Niklaus has done something dastardly and Klaus-like. Klaus! Get out here and tell me what you've done with our brother, you narcissistic, back-stabbing wanker!” Rebakah yelled out.
“Enough with all the shouting. Little sister, I should have known. I assume the six dead vampires were you're doing?” Klaus answered entering the room. “They were very rude.” She said, sounding happy with her decision. “Trying to victimize a poor, innocent girl just trying to find her way to the Quarter. So sorry, were they friends of yours? Oh, that's right, you don't have any friends.” Ouch I feel kind of bad for him.
“I do have friends. I have Marcel. You remember him, don't you? Yes, of course you do. He fancies himself the 'King of the Quarter' now, and he has these rules about killing vampires. It'll be fun to see what sort of punishment he comes up with for you.” You can really feel the love between these siblings huh.
“I don't care about Marcel or his rules. Elijah doesn't welch on deals. What did you do to him?” “Perhaps he's on holiday... or taking a long autumn nap upstairs. Well, go on. Take a look around. You remember this house as well as I.” “I remember everything.” Rebekah said looking sad properly remembering something horrible Klaus did. And of course, being who he is he defended himself. “Well, he wasn't good enough for you.” I think I should say something. “Shouldn’t that be up to her.” All three of them looked at me yup should have stayed quiet. “Ahh the littlest wolf can speak.” Klaus said teasingly, giving me his smug stupid smile.
At least we're talking but Klaus has no idea who I am even though we did have a night of talking and more. “I'm guessing Rebakah can take care of herself since there are about six dead vampires now so why not let her.” He looked at me and I got flashbacks to when we first met. “Thank you, Y/n, because No one was ever good enough for me he made sure of that. Nik, you made sure of that. Now where is Elijah?” “A good question Hayley and I have been talking about that.”
He doesn't answer and his phone buzzes and he gets up to leave. “Where are you going?” Rebakah asked him. “It appears the night is not quite over, yet. I'm off for another drink with Marcel.” “Elijah told me about your plan to take apart Marcel's empire piece by piece. I don't remember it involving you two drinking New Orleans dry together.”
“I know you don't have many friends, Rebekah, but what some friends do when they get together is they drink. And when they drink, they tell secrets. Marcel has somehow found a way to control the entirety of witches in the Quarter, and I aim to uncover the 'how' so I might take it for myself. Finding Elijah didn't make my to-do list today.” Wow you can really feel the love between these siblings. “Oh, and welcome home, little sister.” He walked out to leave but I went after him.
“Klaus wait.’’ He stopped in his tracks, annoyed I could tell. “What is stopping me from my important meeting?” That kind of hurt my feelings. “I just wanted to say to be careful.” He looked confused at that. “It’s just that I know Marcel has a lot of power. The witches hate him because for some reason he knows when one of them practices power so be more smart then dumb in this situation huh.” “Your concern is not needed, and I don't need it.” And he walked away, one of these days I know he probably will need it.
I walked back to the others. “What was that about?” Haley asked me. “Um nothing. What are we talking about.” “We are going to go look for what has happened to Elijah.” “Oh, okay let's go.” “Wait, you want to help.” Rebakah asked me. “Yeah of course if Hayley was missing, I wouldn't stop until I found her and I would want everyone to help.” She looks at me. “Thank you.” “No problem now, let's go.”
Tumblr media
We walk down this spiral staircase. “The governor had lots of secret rooms. I'll show you his favorite.” Rebakah said to us when we were walking down the stairs. “You think Klaus killed him.” Hayley asked. “We can't be killed, silly girl. That doesn't stop Klaus from finding ways to torture us. He has a set of mystical silver daggers. One in the heart sends us into a deep slumber. Klaus gets his jollies from keeping us in a box, until he decides to pull the dagger out. That must be what he's done to Elijah. This one's mine.” We looked down and there was a coffin with a big M on it.
“He keeps your coffin on standby.” I stated in incredulously. “He likes to be prepared for when his family members inevitably disappoint him. Elijah's isn't here – he must've stashed him elsewhere.” Hayley and I look at each other in disbelief. “I feel sick.” I stated. “Welcome to the family, love. You should've run the second you realized Elijah was gone.” “Yeah, well, the witches have put some sort of hex on me. As long as I'm carrying this baby, I can't leave New Orleans. If I do, they kill me.”
“Well, knowing Klaus, he's planning a box for you the second you give birth to whatever's cooking in your tum. I'm leaving as soon as I find Elijah. Being daggered in a box for decades sucks, trust me. You'd best find a way to break that hex and run.” Rebakah goes to look in other rooms and Hayley and I are left to stew in this family’s drama.
Tumblr media
The next day I was left alone in the house. Hayley told me she went for a walk to clear her head about all this and was properly more worried about Elijah then I. So here I am walking around this huge house looking for something to do and I find myself in the kitchen. I look through the fridge and the cupboards and there are enough ingredients that are not totally spoiled to bake because when I’m stressed, I bake and well I need to bake. A couple hours later I'm surrounded by cupcakes and brownies when I get a text from Hayley saying to meet her at the park which she is not supposed to be at. So, I throw down my apron and flour and rush out the door.
Hayley is there sitting and she is holding a cup in her hands. “Hayley what are you doing out here you know we can’t be here!” “Y/n take this.” She pushes the cup in my hand. “What is this?” “Oh, just some tea… with some crushed aconite flowers.” I lifted it to my lips and then I heard her say the last part. “Wolfsbane! Are you trying to kill me!?” “No no N/n not you…” She trails off and looks at my stomach. “No Hayley no.” “Y/n if you do this we can leave and never look back and never have to deal with this crazy family again. Never have to deal with Klaus Mikaelson again.” I soak in her words and take a minute to respond.
“Klaus may be an asshole, but I've been given a chance that I never had before to have my own child and I'd rather deal with this family the rest of my life then give that up.” Hayley looks at me and brings me in for a hug. “Then I guess we better get comfortable.” “Hayley, you don’t have to stay, go live your life I'm not a kid anymore.” “I have missed enough of your life. I am here to see you become the amazing mother that we never got.” I smile at her and are about to start to cry when I hear some branches snap. Some men showed up behind us. By their scent I could tell they were vampires.
“Dumb move, coming into the Quarter. You're coming with me, wolves.” He said with disdain and disgust like he was better than us. I stepped in front of Hayley. “I have had it up to here with vampires telling me what to do.” I throw the hot cup of tea in his face, and he screams in pain we spin around to run but more show up. They go to attack but instead their hearts are being held by Rebekah. “Now, that is no way to treat a pregnant lady. I do hate bad manners.”
Tumblr media
It’s pretty hot outside. Well, it was hot because of the fire of the smoldering vampires that Klaus was having in the front yard. “This is why I told you never to leave the house. Werewolves are banned in the Quarter. I had a plan, and your two’s little nighttime stroll put it all in peril! Leave him!” He yelled when Rebakah was starting to walk towards the barely alive vampire.
“You've done enough, don't you think? Leaving a trail of bodies like a road map to my door?” “If I hadn't overheard this lot bragging about werewolf heads, everyone here would be screwed. And don't give me that crap about having a plan. You've had all the time in the world to execute a plan, and no one's seen you do a damn thing! Elijah made a deal to protect your child, so that it could save you from your selfish, rotten self. But you obviously don't give a damn about the child or Elijah, because what have you done to honor it?” It’s getting heated now and while talking about our kid.
“I have done everything. Let me spell it out for you, shall I? From the day I arrived, Marcel hasn't trusted me. From Day One, he's had his vampires ingest toxic vervain which, as you know, little sister, protects them from my mind control.” It’s interesting even the simple herb can deflect from the original vampires.
He grabs the half alive vampire and starts to drag him. “And this one – I'm gonna drain him of vervain, compel him to believe his mates found religion and moved to Utah, so that he can explain to Marcel why he lost three more vampires tonight.” “Ha so you can be funny.” I said to him and gives me his devilish smirk.
“Of course, I can be, one of many great traits. Now does anyone have any more questions? No? Good, because I have a question. What were you two doing in the bloody French Quarter in the first place? Answer me!” He asks Hayley and I. “Leave them be.” Rebekah said, standing up for us. Hayley looks like she’s about to say something, but I stop her. “I was buying poison to stop… the pregnancy” Klaus starts to break stuff around him in a lot of anger. “Nik! NIK!”
Rebekah stops him before his breaks off the door. “Stop! you are in the presence of the mother of your child! All of this bluster about not wanting the child, and then the second she tells you she's ready to get rid of it? It's okay to care. It's okay to want something. That's all Elijah was trying to do, all he's ever wanted for you. All we've ever wanted.” Klaus calms down but reeling from being confronted with his feelings and sits down on the stairs. Rebekah sits down next to him. “I gave Elijah to Marcel.” Oh shit.
“Marcel was nervous. It's bad enough one Original returned to town, but two? His crew was getting antsy. He wanted Elijah gone, so... I gave him a peace offering.” “You bartered our brother?”’ Wow. “I have a plan. Gain Marcel's trust, dismantle his empire, honor Elijah's wish that that baby be born. I am executing that plan the only way I know how. If you don't like it, there's the door. See if I care” Is that only Elijah's wish because from Klaus’s reaction to the poison he might want this kid as much as I do.
Tumblr media
Rebekah is sitting on the front porch when I approach her. “I know you don't know me very well... but thanks. I appreciate what you did in there.” I said thanking her. “Us girls have got to look out for each other.” “What is it with you two? You say you hate him, but the way you deal with him, it's so clear. Even when you hate him, you still love him.” “I guess when you spend a thousand years with someone, deciding to quit them is like losing a part of yourself. But sometimes the hate is just... so powerful. Emil wasn't the only boyfriend of mine that Klaus killed. He did it again, and again, and every time I found someone to care about. He just kept doing it until, finally, I stopped falling in love. He said he was protecting me from my mistakes, that no one was ever good enough for his little sister. Until one day, someone was.”
“If you know Marcel has Elijah, why don't you just get him back yourself?” “Because, if I cross my brother, there's still a coffin downstairs with my name on it.” At that I pull out the wrapped daggers. “Well now he can't. I would feel the same if Hayley ever did the same to me. I found them under your coffin. So, if a couple of antique steak knives were the only things stopping you from getting Elijah back, then here you go.” She takes them in awe and smiles, and I smile back feeling I made another connection in this family. “Also why are there so many brownies?” “Ha ha right that So I…”
Tumblr media
I start to walk up the stairs to go to bed when I get stopped by Hayley. “N/n why did you take the blame for me.” “Look I know you're my older sister, but I will always protect you no matter what. Plus, he would have killed you.” “Yeah probably.”
Tumblr media
The next morning, I stir awake, and I can see from my half open eyes that Klaus was checking the bottle of wolfsbane. “I didn’t take it.” “You're awake.” “I could barely sleep all night. This house is like a freaking swamp sauna.” I sit up stretching. “What stopped you? You could have been free of all of this... of me.” “Well first of all I never even thought to take it if I told it was Hayley you would have probably killed her. ‘“ “You are right.”
“Before this I never had a chance in Hell to have my own children so I may not totally like you all the time but because of you I have that now and you're not all bad … sometimes.” I finish with the same smirk he gave me last night. “Also, when I was fighting off those vampires, I – I realized I wasn't just protecting myself. Maybe it has to do with the fact that my birth parents gave us up, and my group home kicked me out. All I know is push came to shove, and... I realized I wouldn't let anyone hurt it.” He looks at with a knowing look like he could relate.
“I'm beginning to think we're a lot alike, you and I. We're both castoffs who have learned to fight when we're backed into a corner.” “Well, we're backed into a corner now. What are two messed up werewolf parents going to do.” “Ah, that we are. It's time to fight... littlest wolf.” He said putting a hand on my shoulder and my heart quickens a little and all I can do is stare at him. He stares back and we kind of start to lean to each other slowly when he backs up and stands. “Um, this whole thing with Marcel – the deal you have with the witches, trying to take him down, take what's his – Rebekah told me that you two once loved each other like family. What happened?” I said trying to move on from our little moment.
“I made Marcel everything that he is. I treated him like a son. And when my father chased me and my family from New Orleans a hundred years ago, we believed Marcel was killed – we each mourned him, in our own way. Yet, when I returned, I found not only had he survived, he had thrived. Instead of seeking us out, instead of sticking together as one, he made a choice to take everything my family had built and make it his own. Now, he is living in our home, he is sleeping in our beds. That 'M' he stamps everywhere... it's not for 'Marcel'. It's for 'Mikaelson'. I want it all back, and if I have to push him out to get it, then that's exactly what I'll do. I'll have someone see to the air conditioning.” He walks out of my room, and I'm left with a little more hope that we could work together maybe something more for our kid.

The Misadventure of the McCanns, the Princess, and Rick O'Connell: A Bullet Point Story Of AU Proportions, Dastardly Deeds and Shocking Heroism That Will Chill, Thrill, and Surprise You! Part One.
Cairo, January 1924
One morning at the beginning of the year, two visitors from Rick’s past show up at the door of the Zamalek house. Rick is the one who answers the door. He opens it, sees the men on the step, and slams it shut again, locking it for good measure.
“Come on, O’Connell!” hollers the man on the other side, “open up!”
“Go away, Hub!” Rick yells, leaning against the door as if holding it shut, “I’m married now! I have a wife and a brother-in-law who thinks he’s good at cards and I’m halfway through a B.A.! I don’t do dangerous anymore!”
“Oh yeah? Rumor has it you were involved in that weirdness here a few years back!”
“Not willingly!” Rick yells.
“Damn it, Rick, open the goddamn door!”
The noise has alerted Evie, who ambles into the front hall to see her tall, strong, brave husband cowering behind the door. She asks who it is.
“Hub and Garth McCann!” Rick says, which explains exactly nothing. “Guys I knew in the Legion. Crazy motherfu–heroic types. They attract trouble like bees to honey. I told them to go away.”
“Don’t be such a baby,” Evie says, reaching past Rick to open the door.
This is so patently unfair that Rick just glowers as his gorgeous, smart, librarian-with-absolutely-no-sense-of-self-preservation wife invites Hub and Garth McCann into their home and offers them coffee and biscuits. He glowers at them as they eat and drink and make small talk with Evie. He glowers when Hub sets his coffee cup down and addresses him.
“I need your help,” he says.
“Absolutely not,” Rick replies.
“Told you so,” says Garth.
“What kind of help?” asks Evie.
The very long and convoluted story that follows boils down to this: there’s this girl (because of course there is) that Hub is madly in love with (why wouldn’t he be?), but she’s promised in marriage to a certain sheik (naturally) and Hub wants to rescue her from the harem and marry her himself (because of course he does). He and Garth have the whole thing worked out: they’ll infiltrate the palace and rescue the princess, and all Rick has to do is pose as a wealthy American tourist on vacation and spirit them all away in his aeroplane to Egypt and safety.
“I haven’t got an aeroplane,” Rick says.
“I’ve got a guy,” Hub says.
“Of course you do,” Rick says.
“Of course we’ll help!” says Evie, because of course she does.
Rick snarls.
“We’re going to die,” he says later, after the McCanns have left. “We’ve been married less than two years and you’re sending me to my death.”
“Don’t be so dramatic,” Evie replies. She’s already packing him a bag. “You won’t be anywhere near the danger. The whole point of you being there is to be the secret rescuer, not the public one. You’re doing the sneaky bit.” As if there is anything sneaky about kidnapping a princess and fleeing a country.
It isn’t kidnapping, per se, Evie points out. It’s a liberation. No woman should be forced into a loveless marriage, and Hub McCann seems to be a stand-up man. When he’s not getting into brawls, Rick thinks but doesn’t say. He still remembers the state he was in when he met Evie and Jonathan. He sighs. This was supposed to be a short research trip: some papyri Evie needs for her dissertation are housed in the Museum of Antiquities library, and she has a months’ leave to go study them. And now he’s being bullied into another adventure he didn’t ask for. Damn Hub. This girl must be pretty incredible.
(In his heart of hearts, Rick knows that if the situation was reversed and it was Evie they were rescuing, he’d be just as desperate as Hub is, and just as willing to rope in whoever it took to succeed. Hell, he already has.)
“If I die,” he grumbles to Evie, “at least make sure they grant me my B.A. posthumously.”
“I will not,” says Evie, “because you are not going to die.”
So two days later he finds himself stepping off a small passenger ship and going through customs in Saudi Arabia, wearing a very fine linen suit and a pair of short boots: not the ideal outfit for a rescue mission, but he looks dapper as hell, so Rick is willing to let it go. He’s got to meet up with Hub’s guy at the local airfield, to play the part of a rich tourist hiring a small plane to take them around and ‘examine’ potential oil fields. So far, so easy. He gets to the airfield and meets up with the pilot–and it’s Izzy Buttons.
There is mutual swearing on both sides.
See, a long time ago when Rick lived in Morocco and worked for an antiquities dealer, Izzy Buttons used to occasionally transport heavier pieces around in his biplane, mostly from Marrakesh to Casablanca or Agadir. One time they had to sneak out a legally-purchased piece from a bank that had refused to give it up to its purchaser, an affair that included several bribes, two days undercover work, and a belly dancer as a distraction. It was a perfect heist–or would have been if Izzy Buttons had been on time for the pickup. He’d been shot in the ass in the melee and has never forgiven Rick for it.
So there is some antipathy on both sides as they set out to Hub McCann’s girlfriend’s fiance’s palace in an oasis in the middle of the desert. But everything goes well: Rick arrives in the little village surrounding the palace and puts it about that he’s a wealthy American businessman on holiday, wandering about making inane remarks about all and sundry, and pretending he doesn’t speak Arabic. The charade is a success. When the McCanns show up, badly disguised as Bedouin, he ignores them until Garth seeks him out that night to give him the message that the rescue mission will take place the night after next, so be on the plane, and for heaven’s sake, don’t go anywhere near the palace.
Rick has no intention of going anywhere near the palace, and so of course the next day an invitation to visit the grounds is extended to this most illustrious of American oilmen. Rick sighs, and longs for Evie and his B.A. work, and accepts the invitation.
The palace gardens are beautiful, the Sheik very generous and affable in humor. He is to be married, he tells Rick, for the third time, to a beautiful and accomplished young woman. About that, Rick thinks, wondering if the Sheik knows anything about the McCann brothers’ heist happening right under his nose. He suggests that the Sheik examine his lands to see if there is oil under the sand. Maybe untold wealth and riches will make up for the gross insult about to be perpetrated. So, so far so good. It isn’t until evening falls and Rick is wandering in the extensive gardens, casing the joint so to speak, that things take a very sharp left turn.
Someone steps up behind Rick and before he can turn around or shake them off, a handkerchief dosed in chloroform is clamped over his mouth and nose. Son of a bitch, Rick thinks, and passes out.

People say he's a good dad and I agree <3 (he is attempting deicide)
This is the worst manga in the world the fridge is full of sakura blossoms and Yukine is coming to save Yato and now he's a fucking ayakashi dog he's fully evolved into a furry

So Sekki is able to break the barrier

Oh Hiyori you're looking rough
Oh Yukine is disintegrating help
It's strange how we never get an inkling he's looking for Kaya and this new nation, it was about culls and removing the gods not finding her
Amaterasu really doesn't interfere she just watches or sometimes gets involved
How is it that the shinki can be seen by the near shore now its still the true world
Father be like I've returned from the dead and I scare you why don't you love me you were crying
Someone says divine punishment and immediately Father is like the gods did this specifically like he didn't play a part in her death
Father bitches that forgiveness is for the weak but thinks Kaya would forgive him
Father says he couldn't do anything but the belief system back then meant that he could be recalled after death did he even try?
Daikoku refusing to kill that child like a normal person
'He's been seeking something his whole life just like me' and there's the shrine and Yukine
We fr thought we'd found Kaya lol I mean I guess we did but Father thought she'd be normal and not like the others he called sacrifices
Oh he's so sad it's giving Pedro Pascal (I think I said that when it came out and I was shot)
Screaming throwing up Yato knows Hiyori is here
Oh I'm so fucking miserable 'we shall meet again those words have come full circle' I gate this life
For a brief shining moment I thought it was a trick and the real Hiyori was elsewhere but then SOMEONE had to go and do THAT
LET'S GO HOME
Oh I'm actually so fucking sad Yato's voiceover saying its his fault he wouldn't fix her problem with the flashbacks and then Sakura's words about you can never see them again when they die Adachitoka you're the worst
Kiun seeing sense and letting the young lesd because times have changed
Kofuku calling Daikoku's actions irrational like he's just not only locked him in a phone box for a bit instead of killing him
I wonder who summoned all the shinki though because how are Kuzuha and Kuruha helping with containment, Bishamon's not around
Takemika saying that Amaterasu may never change
'Why would you do that to her' because he's a bitch!!!!!!!
Oh I hate this manga Father's trying to name Hiyori and he pulls her head back and the light is gone fron her eyes and there's a tear and I'm ending it after tbe final chapter
Oh he's naming her I hate my life Yukine's nearly gone too
All this time all the warnings we never believed we'd get this
Oh its all her memories and one page is just Yato and he's thanking her for the shrine I'm so sad Adachitoka you make me so sad why did you do this
Oh the shattered image if Hiyori like reflections of my life
FINAL FATHER NECK CUT TRACKER: 4
OK so theory is that because Hiyori was a shinki made within the nation of the word, she was able to destroy it?
Also if the brush is gone then Chiki and Yuuki should be gone
108
Yukine's back oh I'm so sad
Oh I'm so fucking miserable Hiyori looks so innocent and Yukine nearly says her name but Nora stops him and then Yato nearly says her name and then he realises he can't and then he screams and so do I
Father die challenge?????? Stfu
Yukine furry form is here to stay ig I wish he mauled Father a bit but he found her body!!!!!
Yato saying be can't handle a world without Hiyori but he can't destroy it like his dad would
Oh I'm so sad 'this world she protected is the grave where she sleeps' worst manga ever
'You can make miracles happens can't you'
DON'T GIVE UP YET
Remember when we thought Yato was looking up to Amaterasu for help lol
Kazubisha having a quick catch up
Now is not the time but Yato looks good jdhdb
Hiyori just not got a clue whats happening
Father's still being a little bitch
The fact he has no lifelines like when did Yato cuts Fujisaki's ties???
Nora finally standing up to Father
Father has drowned, ignored by his children <3<3<3<3<3<3<3 my heart is so full
Oh I'm so sad they've been there so long there's snow on their heads and Yukine is crying and I hate it
But that also means they keep Hiyori clear of snow to keep her warm I hate it here!!!
Yato disappearing because everyone who knew him was dead and he breathed Hiyori back to life and saved her (and himself I'm maifesting)
Oh now they're both crying for Yato and Yukine's hugging him this is the worst day ever
I'LL GIVE YOU ALL THAT I AM
Oh this really is the worst day ever the final kiss of life and HIS TEAR IS ON HER FACE WHEN SHE WAKES UP
Oh she nearly says his name I'm so sad how is this going to end there is so much to unpack in this manga

So, I was checking something in Mortimer's biography of Henry IV and I realised how much he was repeatedly emphasising that Henry V (Hal) was a shitty son* and yet I started wondering why shouldn't Hal be a shitty son? Particularly when Mortimer gives us no indication of Henry ever caring about his son, even when it would be really easy to do so?
Firstly, Henry was, well, the parent and Hal was the child in this scenario. He was Hal's father and while he shared and delegated responsibility for Hal's upbringing**, it was his responsibility to raise Hal. Their relationship was Henry's responsibility. Hal was only 26 when his father died, meaning that for the vast majority of their relationship, Hal was a child or adolescent for whom Henry was ultimately responsible. The responsibility for his behaviour and his relationship with his father was ultimately Henry's. He was the adult and the parent.
And frankly, my reaction to any narrative along the lines of "this poor, noble parent suffers the tribulations of their ungrateful, indisputably shitty child" is to wonder what is going on beyond that simple narrative that absolves the parent of responsibility while treating them as the victim and not even giving the child's perspective on their parent. And that's the basic narrative Mortimer provides for Henry and Hal. Henry is a noble parent suffering the tribulations of a shitty kid who has no interiority beyond being a shitty kid.
Secondly, Mortimer never tells us how Henry felt about Hal. Which is weird because his stated intent of the biography is to tell the story of Henry's life and reign through Henry's eyes, so surely Henry had opinions on his son beyond "woe is me, my shitty son is shitty"? Mortimer doesn't even give us a reason to presume Henry ever had a good relationship with his son, starting from the time his son was a newborn.
The discussion of Hal's birth focuses on Henry hunting, playing dice, enjoying the Forest of Dean and other manly pursuits with his mates while waiting for his wife to give birth. Hal is then born. Then we're told how the dastardly Richard II has summoned a parliament, forcibly tearing Henry away from his wife's churching and, more importantly I guess, the three days' of celebratory jousting and feasting.
While Mortimer bizarrely makes a session of parliament a personal slight against the new father, he doesn't even suggest Henry felt anything at all about becoming a father for the very first time, let alone delve into the pain of having to leave his wife and his eight-day-old son. There are some suggestions that Hal was a small, sickly baby which could have been invoked to heighten Henry's pain (though I'm pretty sure he could have excused himself from parliament) as he left his newly delivered wife and days-old son to attend this parliamentary session evilly summoned by Richard. And, to be sure, we could even deepen the angst by invoking the fact that Henry's mother had died in childbirth to imagine he was anxious about leaving Mary. But no, Mortimer does not want his readers to imagine Mary as anything but a prop for Henry's virtue and the recipient of his noble seed love and does not want his readers to concern themselves with a newborn. Mortimer, instead, highlights all the partying and manly leisure activities Henry was missing out on because of Dastardly Richard.
In 1415, Mortimer discusses Hal's rivalry with his brother, Thomas:
By 1398 Thomas had been singled out as his father’s favourite son, his name appearing high on the list of recipients of Henry IV’s New Year presents (while Prince Henry’s name does not appear at all). It is possible that their rivalry developed at this time, and perhaps was even caused by their father’s favouritism.
...way to make Henry look like a terrible parent. Assuming this is January 1398, the boys would have been 11 and 10 - i.e. they were literal children while their father was blatantly playing favourites. If Mortimer meant January 1399, they would have been 12 and 11 and Henry was in exile, with Thomas, so perhaps this wasn't favouritism at all.
Mortimer, ultimately, seems to treat Hal as though he was an adult from a young age. That Henry was not responsible for raising him. That the long-debunked Ariès view of childhood was the correct. Yes, a boy at age 11 or 12 was probably considered more mature in the Middle Ages than he would be today but that he still wouldn't be considered that much more mature, let alone a fully fledged adult. We know this because, well, we can look at how Hal, after Richard II's deposition, was given only nominal commands and remained under the governorship of actual adults like Thomas Percy, Earl of Worcester who was Hal's senior by over forty years.
Thirdly, Mortimer doesn't even give any indication that Henry really cares about his son, even when the son is in danger. The closest he comes is saying "added to these problems, he was risking the king killing his eldest son" in a lengthy paragraph about how courageous and brave Henry was to return to England to challenge Richard for his inheritance. Don't believe me? Here:
Few writers who have described the events of 1399 mention the key attribute which was all-important to the success of Henry’s expedition, namely his personal courage. [...] The sheer audacity of Henry returning to England at this point is impressive, and it impressed contemporaries too. That he did so in the wake of Mortimer, risking not just his life but the danger of being labelled a traitor, is particularly striking. Yes, he had seen the crowds lining the streets as he left London to go into exile. Yes, he probably had assurances from the earls of Westmorland and Northumberland that they would support him. But he had no guarantee that those crowds would risk their lives for him now. Nor could he be certain that the earls of Westmorland and Northumberland would raise an army larger than that of the duke of York, the guardian of the realm. And what if Richard returned from Ireland? No Englishman had marched against the king on English soil and won a full-scale battle for more than 130 years. Henry could not even be sure that he could disembark in safety. The first town he came to after landing—Kingston upon Hull—refused him admittance. Added to these problems, he was risking the king killing his eldest son, Henry. He might have been taking action to put an end to Richard’s systematic destruction of him, his family and his estate, but action in itself increased his vulnerability.
Now, we can debate a few things about the idea that Hal had been endangered by his father's return:
Was Hal actually a hostage?
Was Hal actually in danger from Richard II?
Was Hal actually in danger from others, i.e. Richard's favourites?
Anne Curry argues he wasn't a hostage. There's no evidence of Hal residing in Richard's household and evidence that suggests he was being provided for outside of the household structure. Nor was he taken to Ireland necessarily as a hostage, since he was the right age to be blooded in warfare. The other questions are harder to answer without resorting to speculation but Richard generally appears to have treated his enemies' sons well so Hal was probably not in danger from Richard, though the Epiphany Rising allegedly contained a plot to kill all four of Henry's sons so possibly some of Richard's favourites may have wanted to use Hal against Henry. While nothing did happen to Hal, we can't assume that Henry had foreknowledge of this or that was never any risk at all to Hal. Events moved too quickly for Richard and his favourites to mount any effective resistance to Henry but not necessarily due to any great plan on Henry's behalf.
At any rate, Mortimer does not want to us to believe that there was no risk to Hal or that Henry knew there was no risk. Instead, he presents it as an afterthought or add-on to the much greater personal risk Henry was taking. Without wishing to downplay the risk to Henry, it's worth remembering that Hal was with Richard and his favourites in Ireland while Henry was at liberty. If things had gone badly for Henry, Henry could have retreated to a stronghold or fled England. Hal did not have these options. He was in Richard's company, surrounded by Richard's favourites, in Ireland and a child. There was little chance he could've escaped.
IMO, I think it's likely that Henry felt confident that Richard wouldn't harm his son and would protect his son from those who might harm him for Richard's benefit. But it's a choice he made, one that doesn't exactly make him Father of the Year. He was willing to bank on Richard's good-will towards his son. And we might, too, consider the damage it would have done to Hal's relationship with his father. Regardless of whether Richard would have used him against his father or not, Hal was old enough to realise the danger Henry had put in him by returning and young enough to take it to heart.
Of course, we can also ask harder questions, aiming to absolve Henry of all responsibility for the danger Hal was placed in. After all, Richard "forced" Henry to rebel against him and Richard was a "threat" that had to be dealt with. But these questions are more about demonising Richard to make Henry's behaviour completely noble.
But the fact is that Henry did make a decision - a very big decision, he could've just stayed in exile and eaten his food - that put his preteen son's life in potential danger, that may have made his preteen son believe his life was not important to his father. And Mortimer is pretending it's proof of how courageous Henry was to return to Richard. It's hardly a heroic look.
Fourthly, Mortimer doesn't even take the easy options to portray Henry as a concerned father. He mentions Hal's wounding at Shrewsbury briefly, even noting that it was "so grave it was unlikely he would live" but buries all under a triumphalist spiel about how brave Henry had been and how the battle proved God approved of everything Henry had done to get the throne. I'm not going to post this quote because it's several paragraphs long.
Let's break down this view of Shrewsbury. It wasn't viewed by contemporaries as proving Henry's right to the throne. It was a close battle with a high number of casualties on both sides. It's believed to be the most deadly battle fought on English soil after the Battle of Towton and a battle in which Henry's life came under direct threat. Nor did he deliver the decisive blow; the rebel army fell apart after the discovery of Hotspur's death. No one knows who killed Hotspur - the battle was so inglorious that one of the chief commanders could die without anyone knowing how it had been done. The fact that Henry's son and heir was gravely injured and left disfigured would also disprove of this "glorious victory, ordained by God" view and is probably why the injury appears to have been hushed up. Nor did this victory lead to any lasting peace for Henry - it was his last pitched battle but he continued to face rebellions, including the rebellion led by Archbishop Scrope that would be ruinous to his reputation. So, while Henry may have seen it as a sign from God of his extraordinary manliness and righteousness as Mortimer supposes it was, it likely wasn't a view shared by many of his contemporaries.
But it would so easy to talk about Hal's wound in order to present Henry as a concerned father. The impetus to summon John Bradmore to treat Hal may have come from Henry and though it appears Henry wasn't the doting father remaining anxiously by his possibly-dying son's bedside, we could easily depict him as being torn away by his duty but still anxiously keeping tabs on Hal and sending a stream of doctors, priests and surgeons to tend to Hal, no expense spared.
But I suppose that would detract from depicting Shrewsbury as a sign of Henry's rule and murder of Richard II was ordained by God.
Fifthly, I know that Mortimer thinks Hal was a shitty son and that's because Mortimer thinks he was a shitty person. I know that Mortimer thinks Hal became a shitty person because in 1415 he claims (in a scenario he made up and for which there is no evidence) Hal was psychologically disturbed at a young age when Richard II decided not to honour Edward III's edict that named John of Gaunt (and thus Henry and Hal) as his successors. Having be raised to be king since his birth (again, a scenario Mortimer made up and for which there is no evidence), Richard's takes-backsies basically made Hal insecure, cold-hearted and basically a shitty person (yet another scenario Mortimer made up and for which there is no evidence).
We don't have any reliable evidence of Richard ever naming an heir. One chronicle account claimed Richard named the Mortimers as his heirs in parliament in 1385/86 but there is no record of this in parliamentary records. Bagot claimed, in an incendiary testimony, that Richard was talking of abdicating and leaving the throne to Edward of York, Earl of Rutland - but the corroborating evidence Ian Mortimer cites is his own over-interpretation of nothing-burgers*** and his belief that Richard created an entail that gave Edmund of Langley, Duke of York the throne but Henry IV destroyed it once he came to the throne. OK, possible, but you get how that's not evidence? And it seems weird that if Richard named York as his heir that no one ever mentioned it. Not one of York's descendents in rebellion against the Lancastrians and claiming a superior claim to the throne. Not one of the chroniclers talking about how Richard's untrustworthiness and betrayal of the concepts of good rule.
We have no evidence that Hal was raised to be king. We have no evidence Henry was raised to be king. I think it's likely Gaunt thought it'd be nice if they could get it - or at least get the honour and goodies of being named heir until Richard II produced his own heir - but it was hardly a sound idea to raise a child as a future king of England when the current king could one day produce an heir himself It's not like they had anyway of telling that Richard was rubbish and would never have a child in 1367 or 1377 or 1387 or even 1397. And if Edward III was acting within his rights to set up the succession the way he liked, we must extend the same courtesy to Richard. It was Richard's right, as king, to order the succession the way he liked - not Gaunt and Henry's. And it was Gaunt and Henry who, in Mortimer's scenario, made the choice raise Hal with the expectation he'd be king. It's their parenting (and grandparenting) that's at fault here, again, not Hal and not Richard.
Finally, if we're to go looking for evidence of psychological trauma that shaped Hal's personalty, there's a lot of things that actually happened, that we have evidence of, that we can turn to.
Like when Henry returned despite the "risk" it posed to Hal. Like the Epiphany Rising where Hal and his brothers were intended to be killed. Like the years spent reacting to rebellions and wars during his adolescence. Like receiving a wound "so grave it was unlikely he would live", going through an operation performed without any reliable anaesthetic and painkillers and being left permanently disfigured and possibly with neurological issues and/or chronic pain.
The problem with that is a lot of that can be attributed Henry's actions and choices. It diminishes Henry's alleged greatness. How can the Battle of Shrewsbury be a glorious win for Henry's greatness if it nearly killed his son and traumatised him? No, Henry was the greatest so clearly everything wrong with Hal is Dastardly Richard's fault.
Sixthly, while Hal is the most prominent of Henry's children to be subject of this treatment, it's also true for all of Henry's children. Their most important quality is their quantity and their paternity, which testifies to Henry's virility - especially in regards to the effeminate and childless king Richard. Taken on their own, what matters to Mortimer is not what happens to them but how to make Henry the most sympathetic, the most heroic, the most put-upon and the most important figure at all times.
Witness his discussion of Mary de Bohun's death, where in the middle of a paragraph about Henry's grief at her death, he remembers Mary and Henry had six children for a brief moment:
But Philippa, in being born, had joined her siblings in motherlessness. Henry knew all about that; he and his sisters had been in the same position twenty-five years earlier.
He can't even spend more than a sentence on how six young children felt about losing their mother before reintroducing Henry's perspective and sublimating their grief into a wider reminder about how Henry actually is suffering the most out of everyone. His young children might be grieving their mother but Henry is motherless and wifeless. He is the most tragic figure here!
Also, Henry was only 17 months old when his mother died. It undoubtedly had a large, likely distressing impact on his life. But he wouldn't have remembered what the experience of losing his mother was like. He wouldn't have even remembered her. Henry's sense of motherlessness would have been vastly different from his older children and only really comparable to the girls who were young enough that they wouldn't remember her once they were older.
Here's the longest reference to Philippa (emphasis mine, showing the references to Philippa):
As the members of parliament returned to their homes to oversee the harvest, Henry set about preparing to accompany his daughter, Philippa, to Lynn, from where she would sail to Denmark. Although she should have been there two months earlier, he did not rush. However, it is very interesting that he did not sail to King’s Lynn; he went by road. Had his legs been as sore as they were in April, when the short trip from Windsor to Staines was beyond him, he would not have been able to undertake such a journey. As it was, he not only undertook it, he rode or was carried at nearly the same speed as he had travelled when fully fit. Yet something was profoundly wrong with Henry. On the way to King’s Lynn he made a sudden trip to Walsingham, where there were two holy wells capable of effecting miraculous cures. Very shortly afterwards, having said goodbye to his daughter for the last time, he swiftly travelled to Bardney Abbey, near Lincoln, where he locked himself away in the abbey library.
No opportunity is taken to consider how Henry might have felt upon seeing his youngest daughter leave England at 12 years of age, knowing that it could be (and was) the last time he would ever saw her. But rather than acknowledging any kind of emotion Henry might have felt, Mortimer focuses instead on Henry's health. What's more memorable: saying goodbye to your youngest daughter, never to see her again, or how your legs hurt?
I've already talked a bit about how Mortimer treats the death of Henry's daughter Blanche here but it's truly amazing how he treats it as a terrible thing that happened to Henry and Henry alone. The tragedy of Blanche's short-lived life, the demonstrable grief her husband and father-in-law suffered with her death is not important. Henry's pain is. After all, Blanche might be dead but Henry is dying and grieving.
All up, it seems like Mortimer's Henry doesn't even think about Hal or his other children, let alone act as a good father to them. Mortimer provides no reason why Hal should be a good son to Henry beyond going on and on about how wonderful, courageous, brave and manly Henry was ("the ultimate thoroughbred warrior", an actual quote from the book, with original emphasis). Yet the narrative continually shows a distinct lack of interest in Henry as being engaged with his children.
It is more concerned with Henry missing out on partying than leaving his newborn son, it is more concerned with the threat to Henry's own life than the danger his actions have put his sons in (after all, he took Thomas with him when he returned to England), it is more concerned with how Shrewsbury proved how he was a truly righteous dude for deposing and murdering the dastardly Richard II than the fact that his son had received a wound so serious it was "unlikely" he'd survive. It is more concerned with making even more references to his poor health than the daughter he'll never see again or mourning the death of his seventeen-year-old daughter. His three other sons barely get a look in apart from assurances that Thomas was Henry's favourite.
I know the evidence is generally lacking to show us positive father moments between Henry and any of his children but given how much Mortimer over-interprets, speculates and turns to inventing things, it'd be easy for him to similarly over-interpret or speculate to show Henry as a concerned father. Mixed pride and sorrow as his daughters leave England, never to return. Unselfish devastation at Blanche's death. Fear for Hal's life after the Battle of Shrewsbury, desperation to find some way to save him. Yet such attempts would require Mortimer's focus to drift away from Henry, to stop seeing everyone else as NPCs whose lives revolve around Henry and see them as real people.
If we pretend that Henry treated Hal like shit because he was always a shitty person, we run into problems. The first is that in Mortimer's retelling of events is that Hal was not even a teenager when this began. The second is that it's not just Hal, it's all of Henry's children who are secondary to Henry. Who cares about Philippa when Henry's legs are giving him problems? Who cares about a seventeen year old girl dying when ~Henry~ is also dying?
This, ultimately, is not to say that Henry and Hal must have had a good relationship or that Hal was the entirely innocent victim of Henry's neglect or that Henry was a terrible father who never loved his son or that Hal couldn't be a shitty son at times. It's to point out that there's a fallacy present in Mortimer's version of events. Henry doesn't or isn't allowed to care about any of his children because Mortimer doesn't think them worthy of Henry. Henry can only be a shitty dad in this equation. No matter how Mortimer tries to tell us how sad he was when Blanche died, we're still left with the idea that Henry's approaching death is of more concern and a larger tragedy than Blanche's actual death.
* Often with bullshit examples. No, it is not a sign of Henry V's disregard that he didn't choose to be buried at the feet of Henry IV's tomb. It's weird you would think it would be normal for an adult king to choose to be buried at the feet of their father's tomb. It doesn't seem that common a choice at all.
** I am not saying that Henry personally was responsible for the daily care of his children but was responsible for overseeing who did. He would have shared that responsibility with his wife, Mary de Bohun, until her death, and with Hal's surviving grandparents, most notably John of Gaunt. With them, Henry would have been responsible for appointing the nurses, governesses, tutors etc.who cared for his children on a daily basis and raised them, as well as determining in whose households his children would be fostered. We also have documented evidence of Henry purchasing educational books for his children, which suggests he had some personal interest in the upbringing of his children, as does his decision to take his second-eldest, Thomas, with him into exile.
*** For instance, like noting Richard treated Edmund of Langley, Duke of York with more precedence than Henry when Henry was also a royal duke, which is proof York was the heir, not Henry. Important context is missing: Edmund of Langley was considerably older than Henry and also a son of Edward III, while Henry was only Edward III's grandson. It seems York was not given precedence over John of Gaunt, who was his elder and a duke, as well, and if York was the heir, we'd expect him to be given precedence over everyone but the king and queen. Additionally, Henry only became a duke in Richard II's duketti bonanza. The duketti were not seen by contemporaries as the equivalent to the royal dukes of Lancaster, York and Gloucester.

since its AU day of epithet week, I wanna post an AU we made a while ago. It's a swap AU but like different from Epithet Swap i swear. It would be apt to call it something like an anime campaign swap but its not really that either since all the character changes carry over from epithet? It's a weird grey zone between anime campaign and epithet erased so I decided to name it Sugar Cookie Shuffle. yknow because the working title for epithet erased was Sugar Cookie Jazz, which is kinda like an in between of anime campaign and epithet erased.
ok so Sugar Cookie Shuffle is a swap AU that swaps:
Molly and Lorelai Calliope and Martin Giovanni and Rick Sylvie and Mera Indus and Moot Percy and Howie Ramsey and Zora Trixie and Feenie Charles and Guile Dan Gansley and Don Infusio Naven and Yoomtah
lets go over each of these in no particular order
Zora and Ramsey Zora is gonna stay a cowboy but is now an Only Sane Man archetype, the combination of which is extremely funny. Ramsey is now a Suit Villain, which means he's gonna always look like this and thats cool as fuck because LOOK AT HIM
Tumblr media
epithet swapped made ramsey into a cowboy and made zora into not a cowboy and that is a travesty. Ramsey is basically built to be a Suit Villain. also suits are cool and hot and i love them.
in place of turning Bugsly into a baby, Ramsey just fucking turns Arnold to gold.
Sylvie and Mera in anime campaign, sylvie had a murderous hatred of mera and mera did not give a single shit about him. That dynamic is good actually. In Sugar Cookie Shuffle, Sylvester Ashling is a genius with intense narcolepsy caused by his epithet. He slept through 60% of university and only barely failed to get a doctorate. He's very salty about that and wants to get the Arsene Amulet to research it but also blah blah blah Mera backstory also since beefton was awake when sylvie was asleep, he's just as much of a genius as his waking self. Just more prone to destruction because its fun.
Mera is physician who wants to research epithets' passive effects on biological processes. has a Napoleon complex. slightly just kinda pathetic.
Indus and Moot Moot is Sylvie's bodyguard to protect/hide him whenever he falls asleep due to narcolpsy. also to protect the people around him because he passively turns his dreams real and like doctor beefton and whatnot. She's also looking for her brother Indus because blah blah blah Indus backstory
Indus is edgy now. His barriers have spikes because hes edgy.
Guile and Charles Guile just can't keep friends because he always feels the urge to shoot them.
Charles is on the Gaslight gatekeep girlboss grind and intentionally gets into relationships and then emotionally destroys them Like in AC, they still manage to have a good friendship despite all the issues with themselves. Charles has a soft spot for utterly hopeless people and that's how she stays friends with Guile and Mera.
Molly and Lorelai + Calliope and Martin Martin dies in this one instead of Calliope Molly is better about it. Lorelai is worse about it. (blyndeffswap AU is basically this premise but done well) Calliope and Martin balance each other out so instead of Martin's braindead idiocy an Molly having to do everything, its Calliope's breakneck efficiency and Lorelai not being able to keep up. to parallel Molly being depressing and cynical, Lorelai is like monumentally morbid. She has creation powers and uses them in the most fucked up ways possible. "My parents are ghosts! DEAD GHOSTS! Feel bad now?" "My dads a ghost! Look here he is!" Makes a fucked up dad ghost "hiiii lorrieeeee"
Phoenica and Trixie Trixie Roughhouse is from a line of dastardly sorcerers, villains, and knaves. also Trixie is also constantly haunted by ghosts and stuff. Phoenica's still rich but like uhhh. idk ok?
(on the topic of neo trio and lorelai i genuinely dont know what ages they should be. like should molly and lorelai switch ages? should the neo trio stay with molly or should they be lorelai's friend group now? splitting the neo trio feels wrong and I cant't think of a good answer.)
Giovanni and Rick Rick likes friends and the boys are his friends. :) Giovanni uhh. Primordial... Soup? wait he's not ocean race uhh. Roughhouse family villainy? we worked on this AU over one night ok we can't flesh out every swap.
Percy and Howie obvious swap is obvious. we didn't really work on this much. instead of turning percy's sword into time death blade, ramsey turns howie's wrench to gold and manipulates it in mid air to make a magic boomerang.
Naven and Yoomtah obvious swap is obvious, we didn't really work on this much.
Dan Gansley and Don Infusio Dan Gansley and Don Infusio

Telling a friend about Monsoon/Aloba in Discord today and thought I’d post it here in case people are wondering who the fuck I’m always talking about Shaw thirsting over ok so Monsoon aka Aloba Dastoor is Haven's devoted brother He's huge and beefy and beautiful and controls the weather like Storm He's introduced when X-Factor is coming to Haven's base and he asks them to lay down their weapons first Which, considering they have mutant powers anyway, is not a big ask. And like, he's a "bad guy" and not even attacking them Aaaand Random opens fire on him Monsoon is ok but understandably pissed, is about to fight back, when Haven intercedes. She apologizes for her brother, having misunderstood the situation because she only saw Monsoon about to start shit, and says he was supposed to guide them to her, not initiate conflict, and to forgive him because his heart is good even if his temper is bad to X-Factor's credit, they admit that their guy started it Like the super violent dastardly villain she is, Haven proceeds to -checks notes- Lead her enemies in and peacefully explain her plans and motives to him, which, while said plans and motives are pretty fucked up, do come from actual Hindu philosophy and not "New Age" shit that the heroes call it while poking fun at her decor and beliefs They continue to be snarky and belittling to downright AGGRESSIVE at her, and while she doesn't retaliate, Monsoon gets pissed and is gonna throw down with Havok on her behalf Once again, Haven intercedes Such a villain, stopping her powerful brother from beating up people who are really fucking rude to her about things she holds incredibly dear and true Anyway, Haven does some more terribly villainous things---like, when Wolfsbane leaps at Val Cooper to tear out her throat, Haven saves Val, and then Rahne wants to tear out Haven's throat too, calling her a witch. Haven responds by healing Rahne of the Genoshan slave bonding process that linked her mind to Havok and made her subservient to him, giving Rahne her free will back. She's so fucking evil Anyway, X-Factor continues to attack Haven and refuse to understand her (again, admittedly Really Fucked Up) plans and worldview, and Haven is finally forced to attack! Oh no wait, she just puts them in her pocket dimension for a time out, and talks with them quite sympathetically about their problems, having zeroed in all their personal issues pretty quickly. It's not in a taunting villain way, she genuinely seems sympathtic to their issues and to share their pain, but she does admittedly threaten if they keep standing in her way she'll use her understanding of them against them. She never actually does, btw. But in the meantime, she then puts them in a holding cell, which, ok, that is villainous, but if people kept trying to attack me and interfere with my plans to "save" the world, I would do the same. I hope I'd be that nice anyway. And who frees them but---Monsoon! He's a double agent working with Val Cooper! He says he idolizes his sister but this is madness and needs to stop. In the resultant battle---which Haven gives up to heal another member of X-Factor who is dying from a deadly disease, though she fails, but I just love she literally surrenders a fight to HELP AN OPPONENT IN NEED---Monsoon's betrayal is revealed. Devastated, Haven proclaims she has no brother. We never see Monsoon again, and Haven is left alone crying in the rain over his loss and the X-Factor member she couldn't save. Flashbacks of Haven and Monsoon show her as a young teen when he's a baby. She also mentions getting her inheritance at 18. My guess is her parents passed away when he was quite small and she probably more or less raised him, which is likely part of why he idolized her and went along with her mad schemes for so long. He also didn't know why she was doing this, he seemed to just think she'd gone crazy and had taken a long time to accept it/do something to stop her, which, understandable. Since he was also a mutant, my guess is he assumed her incredible power came from being one too, as she also never told anyone she was pregnant, not even him.And it's just so sad to me that he never found out the truth, never found out that his sister WASN'T crazy and this WASN'T her fault and she WASN'T herself when she disowned him, and that she never got to explain and apologize and make up to him, it's just so TRAGIC to me and I HATE IT ;-; so in my hc world they did reunite and Monsoon is more devoted than ever bc he feels guilt about never realizing what was wrong (even tho there's no reasonable way he could have) and Haven feels guilt over this and wants him to live his own life and not just think about her dfgsdjf

The Marill Family
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back during the early days of Pokemania, during the time of rumors of the existence of Pokemon beyond the original 151, one of the originals was Pikablu, a water-type creature that heavily resembled Pikachu, but was mysterious and locked away behind incredibly complex mechanism and patterns that were definitely programmed into the original Red/Blue games.
These rumors came to surface thanks to Marill, one of the first Pokemon shown off from the second generation, and it’s not hard to see where the thought process came from. It definitely feels like a design meant to emulate the style of Pikachu, being a little mouse accentuated by particular elemental traits, this time being Water. In my opinion, Marill does a much better job combining the ideas than Pikachu does, the most important part being the big round cartoon mouse ears it has. It lets Marill still look like a mouse, not a weird rabbity thing that Pikachu ends up looking like.
Marill’s tail is also meant to resemble an air bubble, and is said to be buoyant enough for Marill to use to keep itself attached to the surface while it goes diving for food underwater. Clever! I enjoy Marill’s overall design and look quite a bit.
Tumblr media
Like Pikachu, Marill evolves into a pretty different though still recognizably similar design in Azumarill, who also sits more in the background while Marill ate up all the new attention it got during its debut. Marill kind of lost that luster once Gen 2 came and went, though. Fame is pretty fleeting.
Azumarill though is a neat design, now being more of a circular rabbit of water energy compared to Marill’s mousiness. The white patterns on its belly are also said to be used as camouflage, which I can’t exactly picture too clearly but is at least a neat idea. Like Raichu, Azumarill makes for a solid follow-up to Marill, making it a bigger and more potent battle creature while still retaining most of Marill’s cuteness in a larger package.
The entire Marill family would also receive the Fairy type come Gen 6, which, in addition to the ability Huge Power which doubles the Pokemon’s Attack stat, made Azumarill quite the powerhouse in the sixth generation of competitive Pokemon play! There’s something pretty amusing about this easter egg-shaped bubble rabbit wrecking monstrous Dragons and dastardly Dark types, which is true among most Fairy types but especially noteworthy in Azumarill’s case, I think.
Tumblr media
Wait, why is Azurill so sad?? What’s wrong with it??? What is it so worried about???? This just won’t do. Hold on.
Tumblr media
There we go. Anyways, Azurill was introduced in the third generation, which also parallels how Pikachu was given a baby evolution in the generation following its debut to the series. If someone told me this was a deliberate decision on the designer’s part, even if they weren’t sure they’d make a Gen 3 during Gen 2’s development, I would believe them. It’s quite the strange coincidence.
Azurill is an incredibly cute baby Pokemon though, I’m tempted to say even more so than Pichu. It looks even more cartoon-mouselike here, bringing to mind a cat toy more than the real animal, which is not a bad thing just to clarify. I really enjoy how in the 3D games it’s animated to be bouncing on its tail at all times, just for fun.
I have zero idea why the official art of Azurill is so sad and nervous though. This is reflected nowhere, not in any of its Pokedex entries or in any of its sprites besides the later Gen 5 games. Why did they make Azurill so upset on its photo day??
Score: 4/5

Pikablu does a great job succeeding its older, yellow brother.

Are there any Villain characters (Canon & OC) that you find intriguing? Who and why?
Villain characters I find intriguing... hmm...
Different Properties - 8 Characters - 13
Cosma (OK K.O.) - I like the shape changing dragon. Rand Ridley (Inside Job) - HORRIBLE FATHER. Rewatching the series you know his plan and you see it happening. But still wants his big happy family. I want to jump into your brain old man. We jumped into your daughter's now it's your turn. Maligula (Psychonauts 2) - Aw, sweet little Nona. How in the world did you let yourself become the royalty your sister hated? How close were you with your sister before she drowned at your hands? How much did you love Gelsin Mux? What was your relationship with Mithra and Zalto, your parents? What did you think of your brother in law? Why do you still have so many questions surrounding you, Nona? The more we know, the more we realize such deep holes of unknowable with you and your age. You're in your seventies now, Nona. Coach Morceau "Morry/Oly" Oleander (Psychonauts) - He's my cuddle bunny. Bean bag shaped. So much of your past is known yet unknown. How much from the Li-Po is true about you? Or are you now just a surface level maniac who's being monitored? Tell me, Oly, is your family proud of you? VV Argost (Secret Saturdays) - Yeti with a God complex has such a dastardly plan. It makes me wonder why he wanted to infiltrate humanity in the first place if he hated them so much. Amelia (Infinity Train) - A woman who had a happy life and then... she lost everything. She got a chance to help herself and instead made it her life to stay on the train trying to go back to her old life, and now may never go home. Magica DeSpell (Ducktales) - Oh my goodness what a backstory, what powers, what a fall. All around turning from most intimidating villain who had a successful plan to pathetic. Toffee (Star Vs.) - Magic hating Raptor God Man deserved better. Volo (Pokemon) - God Complexes are fun. Javert (Les Miserables) - The desperation and unneeded attacks that Javert does to Jean Valjean is so shiver inducing to watch. Also I like his songs, like "The Confrontation."
Spinny (Whatever Happened to Shadowy Figure?) - Dastardly. Evil. Want to know more but all we know is what she's done to Brittney Spark and Nelly. Reaper Blanc (Hanahaki Ask AU: Unfinished Business) - He didn't always act like this, but something happened to him, and now I wonder who he was. "People's Peonies" (Family Swap) - I love the ideas of marginilized groups who are like: We have more power than these other people cause there are more of us/we have different, supernatural powers and them going to attack people. Like they have no clear goal they're just like: We're better than you. Dina [UNREVEALED STORY] - With a past shrouded and only the idea of chugging science along, Dina is a character similar to Peridot but never gets a redemption. She will go down with hope that her experiment lives on and does its job rather than see another failure. A blind follower of her superiors while also seeing herself as above, Dina is just very interesting to write.
[REDACTED] - This boy who was actually from someone helping me work on a fanfiction and not Belos from Owl House. There's literally no reason why I wouldn't just say Belos. Spoilers are off once things are revealed. No [REDACTED] is a fallen prince in a collaboration fic I'm working on and I have so many songs for this boyo. If you want to know why he's so villainous (without me spoiling the fic), just listen to "Everything At Once" by Lenka. That's essentially his entire character, both before and after his fall. [REDACTED] the fallen prince my beloved. Poor little meow meow. Needs to be thrown in the washing machine. Tar baby lookin ass. Has a tiktok where he censors the name of the "replacement brother" he hates. No Face from Spirited Away actin ass.

Not me dropping a bunch of current ocs These are my new ocs for the RP Inherit The Stars  Rootbright - WindClan Warrior. He’s a real family man, in the fact that he has a family and he is a man. In actuality, he’s a mess, having been trained by the old deputy, Hazetooth, and been a avid follower of the nearly dictatorial leader Wrenstar. He’s killed a couple cats in his days, and been an awful father and mentor but... since Wrenstar’s and Hazetooth’s death he’s been trying to turn it around and mend relationships. His not-mate but baby mama Bluecloud has ditched both of their previous litters, leading him to believe she’s not really mom or mate material. Instead, he’s tried to mend things with his kits and brother first...  Redstorm - RiverClan Warrior. He’s an old guy, but a good guy. Pretty determined to keep his clan safe. He comes from the time of the floods and the ShadowClan raids, so battles and bloodshed follow him. Most of his family have been lost to it, with only his kits Tigerbelly, Lionsky, and Leopardfrost remaining. He’s a bit distant but... he tries. His worst enemy is Bumblebear of ShadowClan.  Foxfrost - ThunderClan Warrior. Ah, the dastardly man himself. His history is interesting. He’s caught his sister in her Half-Clan affair, and his other sister confronted him about her disappearance, only to disappear herself. Still, he managed to survive the era of Twoleg Trappings that made cats disappear. And look, he’s finally ready to mentor again.  Nightfire - ThunderClan warrior. A young warrior, super young. Only three moons under her claws as a warrior and she’s gotten an apprentice. Hopefully this means her path to deputy with be good. Still... she can’t help but be grieving the lose of her brothers, and of her sight.  Pinepaw - Thunderclan Apprentice. A Half-Clan River cat in the midst of tensions? More likely than you think. Only... Pinepaw’s mother skipped out to join his father after they were both kicked from the Clans. He’s a bit of a bully, and fancies himself leader of the ThunderClan Apprentices. Plus his mentors Ratsnap and Cardinalhop say Pinestar has a nice ring to it.  Smokekit - ShadowClan kit. Smoke is a bit of an orphan. His mom and dad died when he was young and now he’s left in care of the queens and clan. Still, Bumblebear and Ryestorm are good role models, so they’ll take care of him.

Summary:
Jordan, Earl of Emerson, has inherited an estate bankrupted by his half-brother. Now he owes an enormous debt to a loanshark, and marrying the loanshark's daughter Odessa is the only way the debt will be forgiven. Odessa does not want to marry a suitor of her father's choosing and has gone to great lengths to keep these men at bay. What she doesn't count on is that Jordan is far more clever than the others ever were, and what more, there's a very convenient attraction between them...
My review:
I am a recent Kathleen Ayers fan, so it was interesting to see how this book measured up to others I've read recently. I would say the chemistry and romance aspect of the novel was pretty solid, but there wasn't as much of a plot in comparison. I could be wrong but at a little less than 200 pages, it felt shorter than her other books. The plot can be summed up by Jordan adamantly continuing to court Odessa in order to save his siblings and erase the debt, while Odessa puts on a fat suit and blackens her teeth and eats onions (so many onions) to make herself as unappealing as possible. It's funny for a while until it isn't quite as much.
Jordan is an excellent example of a more jaded, world-weary hero who's not above fighting dirty when needed. The best way to describe Odessa is that in the modern era, she would deffo be a true crime girlie and possibly an occultist. She's probably one of those heroines some readers would find "annoying" but I liked her. You can't help but be sympathetic to a woman who's basically her father's pawn, despite how much she asserts herself or tries to outmaneuver him. I'd say the main draw of this book is the chemistry between Jordan and Odessa which is present from the very beginning despite Odessa's best efforts to make herself as unappealing as possible. It's a large part of what made the book work. Speaking of chemistry—
The sex:
Well done, and despite the length of the book, there were a few solid scenes. Here's what worked for me:
a) Odessa is a Knowing Virgin (thanks Aunt Lottie). Also a Ready Virgin because as Jordan comments she has a... "natural sensuality"? I think is what he said. But basically, she knows what's up and I loved that.
b) This deserves a note of its own: She has a hand fetish (hot) which Jordan quickly clocks and uses on her
c) There is some light choking during their first (proper) kiss. Also, they 100% would have gone all the way in the middle of that party if they wanted which, again, Jordan notes
d) This may be a bit of a spoiler but people in historical romances do..... Stuff in the place they had sex for the first time, but they don't often go all the way (especially because she was a virgin), so I was pleasantly surprised when they did, but also, it tracks for them as a couple.
Overall:
I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quick, light historical romance that doesn't skimp on the sex. It's also worth noting the book set up Jordan's siblings (the other "Sins" in this series): There's the sister who races horses against men who're partially there to see her in trousers, the brother who's probably a gigolo, another brother who's probably a spy, and their baby sister who's so sweet she deserves a dastardly hero of her own. I'm looking forward to reading all their books.
Thank you to Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review.
