This hopeful picture book--written in the style of a letter--gives kids an honest take on climate change and urges them to band together to help the planet.
The world is a big, beautiful place full of natural wonders--everything from bees to rainfall can seem magical. The world is also changing. Climate change has already had a devastating effect on the planet. But it's not too late! If we work together and show a little more care, both for the environment and each other, we can keep this world beautiful. This moving debut from climate writer Mary Annaïse Heglar is perfect for budding environmentalists and anyone in need of a little hope for the future of our planet.
Thank you to @randomhousekids for sending me a copy of the book.

Blog Tour: Top 5 Reasons to Read PROJECT F by Jeanne DuPrau!
Welcome to Book-Keeping and my stop on the TBR and Beyond Tours blog tour for Project F by Jeanne DuPrau, which releases TODAY! I've got all the details for you below, along with my top 5 reasons to read this dystopian middle grade novel!
About the Book
title: Project F
author: Jeanne DuPrau
publisher: Random House Children's Books
release date: 10 October 2023
From the bestselling author of The City of Ember comes a post-apocalyptic story set hundreds of years in the future, where life is simple and modern conveniences are a thing of the past until a boy enchanted by technology is forced to choose between doing the right thing for his community and pursuing his dreams of adventure.
WELCOME TO THE FUTURE.
There are no cars, planes, television, or smart phones. Climate change wreaked havoc on Earth hundreds of years ago, and now people live a simpler life.
Then thirteen-year-old Keith uncovers a secret. It’s a mysterious mission known only as Project F. It’s advanced, it’s scientific, and it’s going to change the world. It’s exactly the kind of adventure Keith has always longed to be a part of.
And what is adventure without a little danger, right? But how much danger is Keith willing to risk? For himself? For his family? For his community? For the entire world…?
Jeanne DuPrau’s The City of Ember was an instant hit when it arrived on bookshelves. It has become a modern classic beloved by readers selling hundreds of thousands of copies a year! In her latest novel, she explores timely questions about the Earth and our use of its resources. A bold novel, Project F asks how much you are willing to risk to save the future.

About the Author
Jeanne DuPrau spends several hours of every day at her computer, thinking up sentences. She has this quote taped to her wall: “A writer is someone for whom writing is harder than it is for other people” (Thomas Mann).
This gives her courage, because she finds writing very hard. So many words to choose from! So many different things that could happen in a story at any moment! Writing is one tough decision after another.
But it’s also the most satisfying thing she knows how to do. So she keeps doing it. So far, she has written four novels, six books of nonfiction, and quite a few essays and stories.
Jeanne DuPrau doesn’t write every minute of every day. She also putters around in her garden. She lives in California.

Top 5 Reasons to Read
The author is a beloved middle grade author whose City of Ember series has already become a classic of MG lit. It was my niece's favorite when she was in elementary and middle school.
This post-apocalyptic story, set hundreds of years in the future, deals with the aftermath of a global meltdown from our failure to stop using fossil fuels and ruining our environment.
The main character, Keith, is a plucky, mature 14-year-old boy who learns of a secret project happening not too far from his town with which he becomes entangled.
Keith wants more than anything to be the hero of Project F and to move his society forward, but he also wants to do the right thing. He has to ask himself, "...what's more important: doing what you want, or doing what's right?"
This MG novel would be a wonderful read-aloud for any parent and kids, and would be an excellent conversation starter about how we treat the Earth, nature, and our fellow man.
I highly recommend this to any MG reader! This is one you can give your young reader to devour or read aloud with them.
Check out the Bookstagram tour too! You can find my post here, and the full schedule is here.

A Sibling Sacrifice
The JL were having a normal, for them at least, meeting when suddenly a portal rips opens and spits out a young teen with snow white hair and glowing green eyes and he's carrying a bundle as he's stumbles out and lands on his knees in the meeting room.
The two main odd things about this kid was floating above the kid's head was a crown made of stars, ice, and the colors shifting like a aurora borealis and the bundle in his arms was strangely made of stars somehow, almost like a blanket of galaxies plucked out of the cosmos.
Before anyone of them could say or do anything, the kid turns around and screams towards the portal as he scrambles for it.
"JAZZ NO DON'T DO THIS! I CAN STILL FIGHT THEM! NONONONO!" but before he could reach the portal it snaps close.
The kid lands again onto the floor when he doesn't reach it in time, pleading for the damn thing to open again, and the bundle in his arms begins to cry from the jolting and noise.
The baby crying was the only thing that stopped the kid from pleading and instead focused his attention on the bundle in his arms.
"I'm sorry, I'm so damn sorry Ellie. I should had gotten us out of there sooner, I should had saved you bef- I'm sorry. I'm sorry for everything..."
Those were the rushed, raw words the kid said down to the bundle. The kid curled inwards a bit, to both shield the baby, who was calming down somewhat into tiny cry hiccups, and for himself.
Those with advanced hearing could tell the kid was still whispering apologizes under his breath as he held the baby close.
"I'm sorry everyone, I'm so sorry. I tried, I tried so hard to save everyone but in the end... I'm sorry- everyone's gone... I'm sorry."

Okay…I saw this is already available for preorder on Amazon, so I guess it makes it official now! 😍
Ariel has been my favorite girl since forever and working on a Little Golden Book has been my dream since, well, forever, which makes this a double dream come true! 🧜🏻♀️
“Part of Your World” will be released on April 9 and I can’t wait for you to see it and sing along with it!
It’s so wild to know that the song I’ve been constantly singing since I first saw this movie when I was a little kid has now my drawings to accompany it in an actual Little Golden Book 🥹
Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did! I don’t know when, I don’t know how, but I know something is starting right now… ;) 🐠 🦀

My approach to scary stuff is the Shane Madej "it's my bridge now" technique. Which is essentially to make the ghost, ghouls, and/or spirits afraid of me
I will out spooky the darkness if it's the last thing I fucking do. Those ghosts about to be un comfortable I do not mess around

Hey so I’ve mentioned this a lot of times on my main blog, but I wanted to put this out over here since it is Hallow’s Eve. I always give out little tchotchkes on Halloween along with candy. This year, I’ve completely switched over to 100% doohickeys and doodads— think mechanical pencils, shaped erasers, little notebooks, squishes, vampire teeth and spiders rings and all. It started years ago in college when I signed up for a dorm Halloween event where kids from an area that was too dangerous to really trick or treat through got bussed in to trick or treat at our dorm. I bought some candy and dollar store Halloween themed stuff with what i had. And you know what the kids went ape shit over?
Motherfucking. Mechanical. PENCILS!!
These kids could not get enough of them. They literally went “PENCILS??!” I had never seen kids get so hyped up for pencils lmao. They were the first things to go. Candy is fleeting; the little pencils you can bring to school to flex are eternal, until you inevitably lose one of the refill parts and then they aren’t but listen, in that one moment they are infinite. And its nice thinking that maybe some kids who don’t always have access to school supplies not only get them, but get them in fun shapes and designs.
Anyway. I recommend people to give out fun stuff like this not just because kids seem to genuinely enjoy them, but also because there’s this thing called the Teal Pumpkin Project here in America. You can put out a teal pumpkin to show that you are giving away non-candy items and sign your address up so parents of children with allergies know that there are houses their kids can safely and happily trick or treat at! It’s a win-win! Plus, if you accidentally bought too much, it’s not like candy— just pack it away, pencils and fidget spinners will be good next year, too! :)
