"The Game is Afoot, Indeed"
Sherlock x Reader
A/N: So here's my first attempt at a one shot - the idea for this popped into my head not too long after watching Enola Holmes 2. Hope you all enjoy!
Warnings: None! Pure fluff with a sprinkle of mutual pining. Reader is wearing a dress.
Tumblr media
"Here we are," Sherlock said after you exited the carriage, walking up to the side of the building to peer through the nearest window.
Looking around with awe at the large home decorated with beautiful flowers and twinkling lights, you wished for a moment that you were here to enjoy the lively music and celebrate like the other guests. You could see them through the window, dressed in all their finery, dancing the night away.
Taking a breath to clear your mind and focus on the task at hand, you looked around the corner to the front of the building. More guests were lined up outside along a winding path, and - yes, as you looked closer - were holding slips of paper in their hands.
"Alright! This is simple. All I need is one of those invitations," you exclaimed with a mischievous grin, turning towards him. "So, what's the mystery item you're after?"
His dark brows immediately furrowed.
"You're not taking it."
You crossed your arms and stared back in disbelief.
"Are you serious?"
"This item that I am taking is of high value to my case. It is not something I can entrust in anyone's hands but my own," Sherlock stated matter of factly. "I will slip in, break into the viscount's office, grab it, and slip back out."
You let out a soft snort.
"Sherlock, we are at a ball. Do you really expect me to believe that you won't be attention grabbing?" you said while studying the crowd through the window again. "There are a great deal of ladies in there with what looks to be barely any gentlemen. All the ladies will be constantly surveying the dance floor for their next match, waiting to sink their claws into the most eligible bachelor, and you are so very …"
Your words trailed off. You pressed your lips together, with a blushing glance back at Sherlock.
He returned your gaze, waiting, his features painted with slight curiosity.
"... tall," you finished lamely.
Silence.
A heated tension gathered between you both.
After a few moments, Sherlock released a small smirk.
Clearing your throat and breaking eye contact, you continued on, "The point being, I would attract far less attention, and as you know, I have plenty of experience breaking and entering, among other things."
Sherlock stepped towards you.
"Two things. First of all, that was a one-time occurrence that will never happen again. You caught me on a very rare, off day." Still moving closer, he finally stopped, with barely any space remaining. A quiet gasp escaped your lips, drawing his eyes to the source of the sound.
"Second of all," his voice lowering into a gentle tone, "how could you ever think that you would not be the most eye-catching woman in that ballroom?"
Lifting his hand to turn your face up towards his, you could feel your stomach doing somersaults. Resting your hands on the sides of his coat, you began to lose yourself in his deep blue eyes, framed with the most -
-"Even if you're not … tall, was it?" he teased, interrupting your runaway thoughts.
You huffed, glaring at him while taking a step back, causing Sherlock to drop his hand.
He immediately offered his arm. Upon taking it, you two strolled over to the front to join the moving guest line.
"So what exactly is my purpose in accompanying you this evening, if not for helping you with your case?" you questioned with a raised brow while waiting for your turn along the path.
"You are simply my date,'' he answered. You immediately opened your mouth in retort. Before you could pose another objection against him, he smoothly continued, "I don't deny your skills, but I believe your beauty will attract too much attention for you to break into the office successfully."
A smile broke out on your face at his attempt at flattery with a double compliment. He watched you closely as it slowly turned into a more sly expression.
"Well, I guess that just means I'll need a big distraction." By this time, you and Sherlock were a bit closer to the head of the line, with a few more guests waiting behind you.
In a loud voice, you suddenly gasped and stared at him in pretend shock, "Oh my goodness! I can't believe it! You're Sherlock Holmes!"
Not a second had passed and the guests ahead and behind craned their heads to get a look at the famous "Sherlock Holmes" who was attending the party.
Stunned into silence, Sherlock stared at you as you pulled out two invitations you had hidden within your dress. His mind flashed back to the heated moment you shared at the side of the building, when your hands had rested right by his coat pockets. At least he wasn't wrong about your skills, he thought.
Murmurs began to break out amongst the guests remaining in line, staring more openly at him.
"What's the item?" you asked again. "If you tell me, I'll give you back your invitation," you offered with a twinkle of mischief in your eyes.
He sighed in defeat.
"It's a silver compass with a chain. Engraved on it are the letters, H E G." He held out his hand impatiently for his invitation, as people were beginning to break away from their spots in line to talk to Sherlock.
"I didn't say when I'd give it back," you laughed, moving farther away as more and more people approached him and started to surround him. "You're Sherlock Holmes, you'll get in!"
He wasn't worried, he knew everything would be fine with your level of talent and capable hands. Lately, Enola had been telling him that he needed to be better about giving up control when it came to working with others. He guessed this was as good a start as any.
Sherlock couldn't help but admire your cunning and quick thinking as he watched you hand the invitation over to the footman, shooting a quick glance and flirtatious grin back at him as you entered the ballroom scene.
Hardly listening to the people now crowding around him and attempting to introduce themselves, he returned the smile as a thought entered his mind.
He would just have to get to the compass first.
"The game is afoot, indeed."

Human
“We all sometimes needs some extra hands Sherlock"
“I don’t need extra hands”
“You’re human … you will ask for it sometimes”
******************************
it was a normal day at baker street , john just woke up yawning still in his pajama clothes going over to the kitchen seeing Sherlock hovering over his microscope , john eyebrows frowned in confusion
it’s 8 in the morning *what the hell he’s doing?* He thinks to himself as he goes to the coffee maker to make himself a coffee … Angelina walked out of her room wearing casual clothes , just a shirt and some leggings , she walked inside the kitchen seeing both john and Sherlock , she has been working with them for a couple of years now ..
“ good morning” she says with a light tone smiling as she sat on the kitchen table
Sherlock looked at her through his lashes not removing his eyes from the microscope , he didn’t say anything to her
John looked at Sherlock then to angelina and nodded at her saying “good morning.. want coffee?” he says holding his own mug in his hands and giving her a look means *come here*
“Yeah .. coffee sounds good” she says as she got up and went over john who whispered in a quite tone
“Wasn’t he sick?”
“Yeah .. his temperature was high”
“How is he up in this hour of the morning?”
“I really don’t know-”
“You know I can hear you” Sherlock says in a flat tone “and I’m still sick if you’re interested” he added quietly
“Then why aren’t you in bed ?” Angelina says in a hurried tone as she places her mug on the counter and going over to him and removed the microscope away
“Because I have work !” he replied in a quick tone as he brought the microscope back again to him
Sherlock being his stubborn self , she huffs quietly before speaking again
“No , get up , get rest .. it’s still early anyway , lestrad won’t come in for at least than two hours from now”
“She’s got a point Sherlock” john says quietly crossing his arms over his chest
Sherlock smarter to argue with them both , and he was really tired and probably his temperature was going high again as he felt slightly cold
“Fine!” he grumbles as he got up and went to lay down on the couch “happy now” he says sarcastically as he looked at Angelina and john
“I know how to take care of myself .. I don’t need someone to do it for me” he says in a flat tone as he covered himself with a blanket as he felt cold but he was too stubborn to admit it
Of course that didn’t slip easily from john
“You cold?” he asks in a kind tone, Sherlock shook his head and mutter a small “no” john sighs knowing that he’s being stubborn , he goes over the drawer to get a thermometer and giving it to Sherlock
Sherlock looked at it hesitantly before taking it and place it in his mouth waiting for a few seconds before john took it and stared at it his eyes winded
“Jeez Sherlock!” John says impatiently as he noticed how his temperature was high
“You could’ve said something !” he adds , Angelina soon joined seeing sherlock slightly shivering she got another blanket and place it over him tucking it under his chin , he smiles lightly at her as buried his head into the blankets
“You know I can take care of myself ” he tells john , john only sighed nodding his head
“We all sometimes needs some extra hands Sherlock" angelina says quietly
“I don’t need extra hands” he says quietly his tone is stern
“You’re human … you will ask for it sometimes” she says gently before going to the kitchen
He scoffs shaking his head , john sighs before turning to face him “she cares about you .. at least appreciate it” he says quietly
“I do that” Sherlock replies quietly
“That doesn’t seem like it” john says quietly
Angelina got back sitting next to Sherlock placing the back of her hand on his forehead , Sherlock tried to pull his face away from her touch but john shoot him a look raising his eyebrow as he nodded towards her , sherlock just stayed still n and suddenly john’s phone rang he answered it
“Yeah , yeah I’ll come by..” he says into the phone before hanging up and turning to them
“Sorry I need get this” he says quietly as he started to walk to the bedroom to change but he stopped mid-air and turned to Angelina “take care of him” he adds before disappearing to the bedroom
Sherlock rolled his eyes as he mutters “I’m not a kid”
“How are you feeling ?” she asks quietly
“It’s alright , a bit cold” he says tucking himself more into the blankets , she patted his arm before going up and spoke in a soft tone “I’ll let you rest”.
It was around 10 in the morning now and Sherlock was still asleep on the couch , Angelina was sitting on the chair reading a book , her black hair up in a bun and her black glasses are on … Sherlock opened his eyes feeling better but has a sore throat , he looks ahead seeing angel… angelina , he admires from afar
“You’re an angel” he says quietly
She looks up from the book completely taking aback “what?” She chuckles
“Your nickname .. is angel right?” He says as he sat up , she closed the book “how did you know ?” she ask curiously
“It’s quite obvious actually … angelina , angel” he says as a matter- of- fact
She chuckles biting her lip “some friends called me that actually .. close friends” she says quietly
“So am I a friend?” he asks teasingly
“You didn’t ask for the nickname , you stole it”
“No I didn’t”
“You kinda did”
“No I would say I figure it out myself” he says proudly
She just shook her head keeping in a laugh
He couldn’t help but to chuckle “actually I didn’t figure it out myself .. I found it on your facebook” he admits quietly , which is rare and he himself doesn’t know why he did it
“So you stole it” she laughs slightly
“Nahh it was hard to find your facebook” he protest shrugging his shoulder
“You could’ve just asked me” she chuckles
“I like to find out myself” he says quietly
“But it’s true” he says
“What?”
“You are an angel”

{Sherlock Holmes X Reader} Serenade Me
A/N: something random i came up with. apologizes for the bad summary, im terrible at them😂😭 i’m also bad at titles, and yes i know serenade is more for singing but oh well😂 anyway hope you guys enjoy! (gender neutral reader)
Warnings: none
Summary: You’re bored out of your mind, so you decide to play Sherlock’s violin. He comes home to see you playing.
Words: 705
Tumblr media
(not my gif)
Bored. That was the only word to describe how you were feeling. Sherlock and John were out on a case while you were stuck in the flat. Sherlock had you on house arrest until your finger healed. You had broken your pinky on your right hand on the last case you had joined him on, and Sherlock wasn't going to have you get hurt again. You tried to plead with him to let you come with them, but he wasn't having it.
So that meant you were stuck in the flat with nothing to do. It had been a few hours and you had already busied yourself with cleaning up a bit. You cleaned the whole flat before falling into Sherlock’s chair. You sat there for a while, not sure what you should do next. You turned and picked up the closest book. You read for a few minutes before becoming bored with that too.
You huffed loudly as you slumped down in the chair. You looked around the flat, trying to find something to do, when your eyes landed on Sherlock's violin. You eyed it for a few moments, tempted to pick it up. You thought back on the days where you used to play violin. You had started playing just before secondary school. You played all throughout secondary school and then about a year into university before abandoning it.
You continued to stare at the violin, unsure if you'd even remember how to play. "Fuck it" you muttered as you stood. You picked up the violin and bow, holding it up to your chin. You began to play, slowly remembering the things your violin tutor had showed you. After a bit of playing, you were beginning to pick back up what you had learned.
You were stood in the spot where Sherlock always played, right next to the window. You played a few songs you somehow managed to remember. You were so caught up in playing though, that you didn't hear the door downstairs opening.
Sherlock was puzzled when he heard violin music from your shared flat upstairs. He thought you were listening to one of the recordings of him playing, but he quickly realized that wasn't the case when he reached the door that was standing open. He was surprised to see you standing by the window, his violin in your hand. He smiled when he realized you hadn't noticed he was there yet. He was enjoying watching you play, but you turned and saw him.
Your eyes widened as you saw Sherlock standing in the doorway. You quickly set down his violin and bow while apologizing profusely. "I'm sorry! I'm so sorry I touched your violin I just was so bored and i've been sitting here for hours having nothing to do and I thought it would be fun and I'm sorry" due to your panicked rambling, you failed to see the amused grin on Sherlock's face.
During your rambling, you had walked toward him to meet him in the middle of the flat. You stood in front of him with the apologetic look of a child who just got caught with their hand in the cookie jar. You waited for him to scold you for touching his things again.
"You never told me you played" you were pleasantly surprised to see that Sherlock was anything but upset with you. "Well I... I haven't played in a long time. I thought I'd try it again- Wait you're not mad?"
Sherlock chuckled as he wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you into his chest. "How could I be mad? You sounded amazing, love. I would have stood and watched you play longer if you hadn't noticed me" you smiled up at him, wrapping your arms around his neck. "I am sorry for touching your violin though. I know you don't like when I touch your things"
"It's quite alright. It just looks like I'll have to get you your own violin. I'd love to play a duet some time" this made you smile even wider as you felt a warmth rising up your neck and ears. "I'd love that too" you said before leaning in and giving him a sweet kiss.

-
You eyed the officers at the door as you shoved the rest of your stuff into a bag. You had been in the hospital for three days, and the officers hadn't once left your door. You knew there had been a possibility of a partner in your most recent case, and now this just confirmed it.
You winced a bit as you sat down in a nearby chair to pull on your shoes. Your mind wandered to Sherlock, wondering if he had any clues to who the partner was. You knew the killer that had been arrested wasn't the type to talk, so Sherlock would have to figure it out on his own.
As if your thoughts summoned him, you look up to see Sherlock step into the room. He held his arms behind his back as he looked around, finally meeting your eyes. "I heard you were going home today."
You smiled softly. "Yes. Any luck with the partner?"
You saw Sherlock wrinkle his nose as he looked around the room again. "Not at the moment, but I'm close." He said softly, and you could tell it was bothering him, not knowing.
"I'm sure you'll catch him." You said with a sigh as you stood up.
You saw Sherlock's eyes look you up and down, and you knew what had happened was playing through his mind. The killer, who you thought was working alone at the time, had suck up on you on your search of his apartment. You fought him rather brutally until Sherlock and Bell showed up to help you.
"Are you sure you should be going home? You still look a bit..." he trailed off as he motioned at you vaguely.
You let out a soft laugh. "I'm fine, just a bit bruised and sore, there's no real reason to keep me here."
Sherlock turned and walked to the window. You watched him curiously, noting how fidgety he appeared to be. "Are you alright Sherlock?"
Turning, he met your eyes and opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out. Closing it, he walked up to you and bounced on the balls of his feet. "I'm...frustrated. That the partner is eluding me so well. But...I'd feel much better if you'd let me take you home"
You watched him for a moment, "You don't think the partner will come after me do you?"
Sherlock looked down at his feet, before meeting your eyes again. "I don't know." You noted the seriousness in his tone.
"It would be easier if he did though, wouldn't it?" You asked, not really thinking about what you said.
Sherlock cocked his head lightly. "I'm not here in hopes of catching him, I-" he seemed to grow more flustered as he spoke. "Well, as hard as it might be to believe, I am only here to make sure you get home safely. I do not want the partner to come for you, no matter how easy that might make it to find him."
"So, you came all the way here for me?" You asked softly, knowing that Sherlock lived on the other side of the city.
He nodded once. "Yes. I did."
You couldn't ignore the swelling you seemed to feel in your chest, or the heat that rose up your neck. Not wanting him to notice, you spun around, and grabbed you bag, ignoring the soreness of your body. "Well then, I don't see why I shouldn't let you take me home."
Turning back, you handed your bag to Sherlock, which he took quickly before turning to leave. You smiled softly at the thought of him caring about you this much as you followed him.
The drive back to your apartment was filled with discussion about the case and the partner, and who they could be. You knew Sherlock was frustrated, but you could also tell there was something else bothering him.
As you got into your apartment, you watched as Sherlock quickly walked through, checking every room before he came back. "All clear?" You asked, only mildly serious.
Sherlock nodded as he looked at the locks on your doors. "You should look into getting better security, I could pick these in my sleep."
"Noted." You said softly as you watched him check your windows. "Sherlock." Not reacting, you spoke louder. "Sherlock."
Turning at the sound of your raised voice, he watched you closely as you walked up to him.
"What is bothering you so much? It's not just that you don't know who the partner is. Is it- are you...worried about me?"
"You seem surprised by the prospect."
"Well, you've not really shown this much concern for me before, at least not this noticeably."
"Yes, well..." He let out a huff of air, seemingly unsure of what to say. "I may- I may blame myself, for what happened to you."
"Why?" You asked with a concerned frown.
"I told you to check the apartment. Alone. I was not thinking of your safety as much as I should have been, and you got hurt. I will not neglect to keep you safe this time."
"So it's not that you are worried, its that you feel guilty? Sherlock we were doing our job. Getting hurt tends to happen sometimes. It wasn't your fault. None of us knew he was going to be there. I don't blame you, so you shouldn't either."
"But I do." His voice was louder as emotion became a bit more obvious in his face. His eyes paused on your cheek, where a bruise was still evident.
You felt your body freeze as he reached up, his fingers hovering over your face where the bruise was, before he moved a strand of lose hair from your face, his fingers grazing your skin softly as he did so.
Seemingly realizing what he was doing, he pulled his hand away and cleared his throat. "I will find the partner. I will."
You smiled softly, and spoke in a soft voice. "I know you will."
His eyes slowly moved to meet yours. "I wont let them hurt you again." His voice was almost a whisper.
"I believe you."
"I-" He began, but stopped, unsure if he should speak.
"What is is Sherlock?"
He crinkled his nose as he thought, before he swallowed, and met your eyes. "I find that... I have- that my...feelings towards you are changing, and have been for some time. And I'm not quite sure...what to do with them."
You took a deep breath, as you tried to steady your heart. "It's alright to feel Sherlock. And whatever you decide to do with your feelings...I'll still be here."
"And if I decide to....embrace them?" He asked softly.
"I wont reject you, if that's what you are afraid of."
He bounced lightly on his feet as he thought in silence for a moment. "I have thought for quite some time that you had feelings for me, but I wasn't positive if maybe I was just projecting."
"You weren't." You admitted.
He nodded his head as he locked his eyes with yours. Taking a step closer, you held your breath, his face not far from yours. His eyes grazed over your features, as he brought his hand up, and again, gently caressed your face. "Then I will...embrace them. I want to."
As various emotions seemed to rocket through you, you nodded your head softly, and smiled at him.
His lips quirked up a bit, as he slowly leaned forward. His lips hovered in front of yours for a moment, brushing ever so lightly, before he leaned in completely. His hand cupped the back of your head as he deepened the kiss, embracing the feelings he had once pushed away.
For the moments, the thoughts of the case, of the partner, were gone from your minds. But Sherlock's determination to keep you safe would remain, well past the closing of this case.
xx End xx
I think I hate this. lmao. idk, I just had a lot of trouble getting it down into words. But I hope you guys like it <3

Benoit Blanc's similarities to other fictional detectives
Specifically Holmes, Poirot and Columbo because I'm most familiar with them and saw many of their characteristics in Blanc.
Impeccable clothes - Poirot
Cigar - Columbo
Post-case slump - Holmes
Eccentric - Holmes, Poirot, Columbo
Detection as a means of helping people, not just for the sake of solving crimes - Holmes (and Poirot and Columbo to a slightly lesser extent)
Fun name – Holmes, Columbo, Poirot
Referred to by surname (almost) all of the time, even by close friends/partners – Columbo, Holmes, Poirot
Kindness to and deep respect for vulnerable women – Holmes, Columbo, Poirot
Said to be the best detective in the world – Holmes, Poirot
Fun American accent – Columbo
Hates rich people who abuse their financial influence – Holmes, Columbo, Poirot
Polite – Columbo (of course Holmes and Poirot can also be very polite but I don't feel like it's a defining characteristic for them the way it is for Columbo)
Rude to mean rich people in a way that is so polite the horrible rich people don’t realise they’re being made fun of/talked to rudely – Holmes, Poirot
Politeness and diplomacy that is often pushed too far and they explode into explicit anger – Holmes, Columbo, Poirot
Drama in resolution – all three to varying degrees, but especially Poirot
Understated and affable – Columbo
Involved in self-contained stories – Columbo, Poirot, Holmes (though a couple of Holmes stories do link closely to previous stories)
Uses the word 'afoot' – Holmes
Gay – Holmes, Poirot (I'll let you decide if this applies to Columbo)

Stressed Out
MAIN MASTER LIST
Word Count: 1.k <
Warnings: Not really any, kind of ooc Sherlock (but who cares)
Author's Note: Finally feeling like I have time to write and that the writing gods have been in my favor. This was a fun little one-shot to write. While I'm still trying to get back into my writing groove, this one shot definitely helped get some of the dust off my creative writing brain. So, thank you @my-dear-sweet-melody for requesting this one. I hope you enjoy it!
Tumblr media
You weren’t sure how you’d been doing it: managing the day-to-day lives of two people who also happened to be good friends of yours, assisting Sherlock with cases, seeing things you’d never thought you’d see in your lifetime (both good and bad), juggling relationships, your own well-being and health, and time to relax. Although it seemed like you had less and less time to do the things concerning yourself. You knew it wasn’t healthy, but when you were thrust into the world of Sherlock Holmes, more important things came into play.
Sherlock was the first to notice how the stress was weighing on you. It was a total shock when he casually announced your current state to John. The moment the words of concern were uttered from Sherlock’s lips, the puzzle in John’s mind had been completed. With the help of Mrs. Hudson, the two men began to conspire to make life easier for their dear friend.
At first, Sherlock’s conscious decision to wash his dishes and put them away in the correct cabinets struck you as odd. Sherlock’s mind was usually too busy for such arbitrary tasks, and such magnificent brain power couldn’t be wasted on such a thing. Then came the tidiness of his experiments. You could swear you hadn’t seen a stray finger or eyeball dissolving in vinegar for quite some time.
When you had asked Sherlock about his new behavior, he shrugged it off with some wildly strange research idea he had come up with. You tried to follow along, but your brain began to hurt after a moment, so you opted to believe him instead.
Meanwhile, John took extra care to charge his and Sherlock’s devices. He knew no matter how brilliant Sherlock was, the man seemingly ceased to forget that computers, phones, and the lot needed to be charged via a charging cord and port. On the other hand, Mrs. Hudson made the note to prepare extra tea and biscuits to save yourself the trouble of doing that for Sherlock and John.
Now, you felt no need to question John and Mrs.Hudson’s new behavior. It was in character for them to do small things like that. However, you continued to question Sherlock; he grew tired of it. Why couldn’t you see that he cared for you, too? That maybe he cared a bit more for you than he should. He was growing weary of the excuses he made to your insistent questions when all he wanted to do was throw them up and tell you the truth. Truthfully, the truth was something he insisted upon. Sherlock always found it one way or another. Yet, he could only fib when you had a new query about his altered behavior. Was it hard for you to understand that Sherlock could care? That he, too, could be human?
“Sherlock,” you called as you sat on the couch, pouring over the current case. It was usually your job to organize each thing into its Sherlockian category to save Sherlock his brain power. However, when you opened the file, it had already been done. “Did I happen to organize this in my sleep?” You raised the file and peered at him. Sherlock felt his mind conjure up the latest lie. Just before it left his mouth, he paused. He got up and marched to the window, where he began to gaze out onto the street below. He couldn’t lie anymore. He had to tell you the truth.
“I organized it,” Sherlock said.
You froze. Something was seriously wrong with the man if he was now organizing his own cases. “Sherlock, you never orga–”
“Why can’t I?” Sherlock’s voice grew tense. His eyes clenched shut, all while his back was still towards you. He wouldn’t dare look at you. He knew if he saw your eyes, he’d crumble and tell you everything, but everything was what you needed to hear. Everything was what he needed to say.
“I never said you couldn’t. It’s just,” you faltered, “…strange.”
Within a moment, Sherlock whirled around. His icy blue eyes began to thaw under your gaze. “I observed you have stressed: Your trousers falling to your hips instead of hanging snuggly on your waist, the dark circles under your eyes that only grew prominent by the day, the growing urge to sleep instead of join Mrs. Hudson for the weekly watch party of the latest soap opera,” Sherlock shut his mouth. He had said too much already; he shouldn’t say more, but his lips moved again. “I wasn’t the only one who noticed, John and Mrs. Hudson, too. We devised a plan to lessen the blow of our–my constant mess.”
As Sherlock spoke, you realized his words were only the truth. You had noticed you suddenly had more time to eat a meal, spend time with your favorite landlady, who was more like a mother, go on walks in the park with John, listen to Sherlock compose his latest piece, sleep, and live life as it should be lived. Amidst Sherlock’s rambling, you whispered, “Why?”
“Because we–because I care you for,” Sherlock choked.
Slowly, you remove yourself from the comfort of the couch cushions and find a place in front of Sherlock. You watch as Sherlock shudders from the touch of your hand on his cheek. “Thank you,” you said as a smile grew. “Thank you for caring when I forgot to take care of myself. Although…”
Sherlock frowned.
“…while I appreciate the sentiment of you organizing your own cases, John charging the computers, and Mrs. Hudson always preparing tea, I’d still like to be able to do my job. After all, the great Sherlock Holmes still needs to use his brain power to solve cases and save the day.”
Sherlock could only smile at that response for he'd give you anything you'd ask. "Of course. Of course, Y/N."

Tumblr media
It had been a long time since you had actually gotten along with your dad. A long time since tensions weren’t running high when in his presence, well aware that things were one thoughtless comment away from a bicker or an argument. Whether it was wanting something from one another- more affection from him, or a more agreeable personality from you- or just not agreeing on things in general. He often commented on how you were more like your uncle Sherlock, even when you were young. Back then you took it as a compliment, seeing your uncle as a genius who adored you and was by far the funnest uncle in the world, but in your pre-teens you realised he meant it as an insult.
You could never forgive him for doing that, even if he didn’t mean it, or didn’t even realise what he was saying. Everytime he said it, it made you pull away from him even more. Spend more time with the man he compared you to, the only person who seemed to actually care about you. Of course, that was until you met Mrs Hudson and then John moved in with Sherlock. Mrs Hudson kept you company when your uncle was busy and you were avoiding your dad, and she’d softly poke into your home life and your relationship with your dad and try and give advice. John thought you were Sherlock’s assistant for a short while before Sherlock corrected him, acting insulted that he thought you were ‘just an assistant’. When he met Mycroft, he immediately began to understand why you weren’t close, and tried to be a responsible adult you could turn to. In the end, when you became a legal adult, you moved to an apartment much, much closer to Sherlock than your dad, and never in the 3 years you’d had it, had your dad stepped foot inside of it. He wasn’t allowed to.
You had a lot of feelings towards your dad from childhood to now. Anger, resentment, distrust. A disconnect you never thought and come to accept could ever be fixed. Whenever you needed support, you went to Sherlock. John. Mrs Hudson. Never him. But this time was different.
You were currently trapped in the said apartment. The one place you were supposed to feel safe no matter what, yet here you were, eyes focussed on the bomb that had been planted in the middle of your living room, the heart of your apartment, with several wires linking to it all across the apartment like spiderwebs. Linked to every possible escape route- the windows, the fire escape, and the only door in and out. You didn’t remember what had happened- you vaguely remember an odd smell as you wet to sleep last night, and when you awoke, you found yourself laying on the floor of your living room, and sitting up and seeing the device. Whoever had done this, had been nice enough to leave your phone right beside the bomb. You didn’t call anyone or even turn the phone on for several hours, scared that it had been tampered with as well and that was also a trigger, but you grew desperate. The first person you tried to call was your dad. You didn’t get through, so then you called Sherlock, and he picked up almost immediately, and you told him what was going on.
That was about two hours ago now. The police cars littered the streets outside, the complex and surrounding buildings completely evacuated. It was just you and this bomb within a 50 foot radius. Well, for a period of time, both Sherlock and John were on the other side of the door, asking you a billion and one questions about what you could see, and you described everything to the best of your abilities, and it was useful. One, Sherlock was able to piece together it was well made, and whoever made this was an expert and had experience with this- probably a military man, working in a bomb squad or something, and that this was purely explosive, no nails or anything to cause more damage, and due the size, the blast wouldn’t go far past the walls of your home. However, after demanding his honesty, he admitted he also had no clue how to diffuse it, or if that was even possible. It seemed too fragile, that even a light breeze could set it off. That solidified your decision to remain perfectly still within two of the wires attached to your windows, too scared to even touch the glass or move to quickly, remembering his comment on a breeze, and didn’t want to risk vibration.
You still hadn’t been able to reach your dad.
“John?” You had asked over the phone. The phone was often being in call between people, mostly Sherlock and John, though Mrs Hudson had called when neither were available to try and keep you calm. It was John’s turn as Sherlock was following leads.
“Yeah? Is something happening?” John asked.
“No it’s just… I can’t reach my dad. I keep trying to call him but he won’t pick up… I… I just want to hear his voice.” You admitted. It sounded ridiculous, childish, but you were tired, hungry, and the adrenaline had drained your energy a while ago now. “Does he know what’s happening?” You asked. He was silent on his side for a minute.
“I don’t know, but I tell you what, I’m going to personally find him, and drag him here, and make him answer his phone, okay?” He promised, and you could hear the anger oozing over the phone, which you couldn’t help but smile at. “In the meantime, I think Sherlock is going to call you later, I think he’s onto something. Hang on, alright?” He said, before handing up. You placed the phone on the floor, carefully standing up, and with distance between yourself and the window, you peered out of it, able to see John as he dashed off towards Lestrade, telling him something, before the pair got into a car and took off presumably to go and find your dad. Looking around more, you spotted Mrs Hudson peering up. She waved when she saw you, and you waved back. With nothing else to do, you sat back down in front of the bomb, trying to examine it to the best of your ability, seeing nothing of importance, before you laid down on the floor, closing your eyes, and waiting.
You flinched when your phone rang. You flinched every time it rang, even if someone had told you just a minute prior it was coming. You reached over, picking it up and placing it to your ear, remembering what John had said. “Sherlock?” You asked.
“How many pieces of furniture in your flat can you crawl under?” His question was far from reassuring, as you bolted up, on high alert.
“U-Um, I don’t know, why? Do I need to hide? Take cover? What’s going on?” You panicked.
“The wiring to the bomb is far too fragile for someone to be able to rig it from the outside after escaping. They must have either found or made another way inside, somewhere where you wouldn’t have noticed. If we can find it you can get out yourself, or we can get inside. Think. Lay on the floor and look around for anything, furniture that you can get under, or furniture light enough but large enough to cover an escape but be able to move from below. Be. Careful. Watch the wires. Call me back if you find anything, I’m on my way back.” He said before hanging up, leaving you alone with silence and overwhelming pressure. You looked at the wires around you, before trying to think of the best places for someone to hide a hatch- under the coffee table, the recliner that you knew was easy to move, your wardrobe in your room which had some crawl space underneath, and for you, the most creepy- under your bed. You quickly checked under your coffee table in front of you, of course finding nothing, because of course that would be too easy. Your recliner was across from you, so after a deep breath, you got down on the ground, and carefully crawled under the wires, spotting a wire that was too low to crawl under, and you stood and carefully stepped over it. You then carefully moved your recliner, checking underneath, and found nothing. That left your bedroom.
Your phone rang again, and your cursed yourself, realising you left it beside the table, and you hurriedly but carefully moved back, grabbing it and answering it. “Hello? Sherlock?”
“Y/N?” Your dad’s voice caught you off guard, and you gasped in surprised. “What’s going on? John told me to call you and said it was dire.” He asked. A relief came over you just from hearing his voice, your eyes burning as you sniffed.
“Dad… it’s bad.” You started, getting silence on the phone. “There’s… someone put some sort of sedative gas into my flat when I went to bed and broke in- they moved me into the living room and- there’s a bomb. There’s a bomb in the living room and it’s wired up to every escape and I can’t get out and I’m scared and I don’t want to die-” You rambled to him before you heard him finally repeating your name to try and interrupt you.
“Y/N, Y/N, breathe. Is Sherlock working on it?” He asked, that last sentence sound a little distance, and you faintly heard John confirm in the background, before he returned to the phone. “Alright. Sherlock’s working on it. What has he told you?”
“He um… He said that he thinks there’s a secret entrance somewhere- and that’s how the person who did this escaped after rigging everything. He told me to look for it- I’m going to check in my bedroom next.” You explained to him, looking over, being relieved when you saw no wire attached to the door.
“Is that door rigged?”
“No. Hold on, I have to crawl under the wires.” You explained, getting back down, crawling under the wires, before reaching it the door, and holding the phone to your ear. “Okay, I’m at the door.”
“Do you feel like a secret agent?” He asked, catching you off guard.
“What?” You asked, pausing in your plan.
“Crawling under and over the wires. It’s like the laser lights and those agents avoiding them. You used to love those movies when you were little. You thought that was what Sherlock did in his cases.” He reminisced. A faint smile met your lips. You’d totally forgotten about that.
“Yeah… I remember one time when I pulled out all the red thread from a jumper you had gotten me, pinning it all over the house so I could pretend to be a secret agent and then using it to make an information board… you were so mad when you came back home because the jumper was some expensive brand and I’d made the board on a wall and wrote on it and everything… sorry about that.” You told him, somehow finding the energy to chuckle pathetically.
“Don’t apologise.” Mycroft told you. “I shouldn’t have yelled at you like that. You were 6, you were just being a child.” He pointed out. “I’m… I’m also sorry that I didn’t answer your calls. I should have known something was wrong when you kept trying to reach me.” He apologised. You hummed, before you realised something.
“This is the first time we’ve been able to actually talk without bickering or arguing in years.” You pointed out. You heard him sigh.
“When this whole mess is over, I promise you we’re going to have a proper family dinner, catch up, and actually talk. No bickering. No arguing. A genuine conversation. How does that sound?” He asked. You smiled to yourself. This was the best thing that had happened all day, not like that was hard.
“Yeah. Let’s hope the escape is in my room.” You said, remembering your task. You reached out, grabbing the handle of your bedroom door, and opening it, and pulling the door open. “Hey, you know, despite not really getting along my whole life, I want you to know that I do love-” You looked up to search your room, but the sound of a beep made your eyes focus on the bomb attached to your bedframe, this one a lot bigger, that was rigged to your bedroom door, that you had just set off.
Mycroft heard you gasp, the sound of you running, hearing you muttering repeatedly ‘no, no, no, no”, the sound of you trying to open a door before the call ended. “Y/N?” Mycroft asked. He heard nothing. He tried calling you back, and it didn’t even ring. He got an awful feeling in his stomach and he wanted to be sick, but he looked up at John who looked confused at what was happening, having not heard what he’d heard. “Get me to her flat right now.”
By the time the pair arrived on your street, it was already blocked off and there was more than one firetruck trying to subdue the fire that was blazing where your flat used to be. Mycroft didn’t speak as he approached, seeing the sight, realising what it was exactly that he heard. He heard his daughter realise she triggered an explosive. He heard his daughter run across the one place she was meant to be safe to the front door. He heard his daughter try and open the door, and realise it was locked and she was trapped inside.
He heard his daughter die, terrified and alone. And for what? Why? Why not him, or Sherlock? He wanted to be angry, demand answers, find who did this and get revenge even if it isn’t lawful, but he couldn’t. He couldn’t find it in himself to be angry right now. Only guilty. He should have spent more time with you. He should have tried harder to be a better parent to you, he should have been kinder, more understanding. He should have been there.
“John! Mycroft!” Mycroft didn’t hear Mrs Hudson at first as she dashed over as quick as she could- she was sobbing and sniffling, clutching a handkerchief to her face as she approached.
“Mrs Hudson, what happened?!” John asked alarmed and out of breath.
“There was a second bomb in the bedroom, when she opened the door it set it off.” She explained. Mycroft finally looked away from the blaze to look at the woman. The call had ended only 20 minutes or so prior, and since the flat was still in fire, so there was no way to examine the scene.
“How do you know that?” He asked her. She didn’t say anything, simply grabbing his arm and pulling him down the street, pass the firetrucks, past the police who looked defeated, and towards an ambulance. The back doors were open, and inside he was able to see two paramedics tending to someone in the bed. He felt his heart leap into his throat as he sprinted to the edge and jumped inside, able to finally see your face, an oxygen mask over your face, burns littering your body, and you were unconscious as a paramedic was placing bandaging on one of your burns. “Is she okay? Is my daughter okay?” He demanded answers, one of the paramedics looking up at him.
“She’s suffered burns and blunt force trauma from the explosion. She was conscious when she was able to get out, but she fell unconscious, and we need to get her to the hospital now. Please sit down if you’re coming with her.” He instructed, and Mycroft followed and sat down. He turned, seeing John and Mrs Hudson stood, staring at you.
“Please make sure Sherlock finds out who did this. They need to pay for this.” Mycroft demanded. John nodded firmly, before the doors shut, the sirens turned on and the ambulance began to move. Mycroft put his whole focus on you, making sure your chest moved up and down, looking for any sign of you waking up, and more importantly, any sign you were in pain. He only saw you breathing, and he decided for now he should be thankful for that. He didn’t know what exactly he was going to do, but he knew that somehow, someway, he was going to fix this. He was going to make everything better. He had to.
Hope you like it! If you have any questions, please send them in!

let the light in
Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: sherlock holmes x reader
summary: After a particularly frustrating case, all the consulting detective needs, is closeness.
warnings: just pure teeth rotting fluff
wordcount: 904 words
a/n: just a cute little one shot with my favourite detective. the name is inspired by the song “let the light in” by Lana Del Rey, cuz I feel like it fits the vibe I was going for in the end. and now enjoy <3
Tumblr media
His last case was one of the hardest he ever had the solve. Even though Sherlock Holmes loves the thrill of a case that really challenges him, it also frustrates him to no end if he can’t find the culprit the moment, he has all the evidence.
This case had involved multiple chases with no success, countless sleepless nights, and even more nights that he didn’t get to spend with you.
Countless nights sitting in his chair thinking, while he could hear your soft snores from down the hall.
He missed you even though he saw you every day. He saw you when you told him to eat something, when you told him to take a break, when you told him to go to sleep. But it wasn’t the same when he couldn’t really spend some quality time with you. When he couldn’t have deep conversations with you, when he couldn’t look at you, when he couldn’t hold you and really feel you.
To say he ached for you was putting it lightly.
The start of your relationship was not easy. Suddenly Sherlock had someone he really trusted. Someone who always listened to him and always cared about him. Someone who would wait and be there for him when he came home at night. Those were not things that were easy for him to get used to, especially since he had never really loved someone.
But for you he tried, and, in the end, it worked out. Still sometimes your relationship has to come second. He doesn’t like that, but he has to get his cases done, especially since he doesn’t take on that many cases anymore. He found a new thrill.
You.
When Sherlock finally entered your shared flat in the middle of the night, he didn’t expect you to be up.
But here you were, sitting in his chair, wearing on of his robes and reading what seems to be one of your way too cheesy romcoms. In the background a jazz record could be heard, one of your favourites. He couldn’t even begin to explain how relieved he was to see you.
But unfortunately, the one he thing Sherlock Holmes was horrible at asking for was the one thing he now desperately needed most.
All he wanted to do right now was hold you close and hear your voice. He wanted to really feel you with his whole being and not just feel your hand grazing his when handing him a cuppa.
He lightly knocked on the door, not wanting to startle you. You looked up from your book and immediately saw your boyfriend looking back at you. A smile now adorned your face, which caused a warm feeling to spread through the detective.
“Case solved?”, was the first question you could voice, even though a hundred more were currently going through your mind. You really hoped it was solved, because that would mean you could finally spend some time with your boyfriend again.
“Finally!”, he answered, a smile now starting to appear on his face too.
At hearing his answer, you immediately got up and hugged him for what felt like the first time in weeks, even though it could have been only a week at most.
You nuzzled into his chest while he tucked his face into the crook of your neck, inhaling the smell of your body wash.
“Why are you still up, my love?” It was not a question of importance but more one to break the silence and to finally hear more of your voice.
“Well, I couldn’t sleep and thought I would wait up for you. I’ve missed you.” Your words made Sherlock think. These days he often considered your feelings, especially when he’s doing something that could make you mad. But he never considered that not only did he miss you, but you also missed him the same. He was not the only one deprived of your touch, you couldn’t touch him either.
He unconsciously pulled you closer while he got lost in his thoughts.
“How about we go to bed, huh?” Your voice immediately put him back to reality.
“Theres nothing, I want more right now.”, he answered truthfully. You pulled away from him and took his hand in yours, already on the way to your shared bedroom.
You were already wearing your pyjamas, only wearing one of Sherlocks dressing gowns on top of them.
While you got under the covers Sherlock took off his suit before carefully placing it on a nearby chair. He also got into his pyjamas before joining you under the covers.
He immediately took a hold of your waist before pulling you into him. You were now both laying on your sides, legs intertwined, facing each other. You had one of your hands on his chest, feeling his steady and now relaxed heartbeat, while your other hand slowly drew shapes on his back.
All the while Sherlock just held you close, happy to have you close to him again.
While holding you, he wondered how he went on with life before he met you. Before you were there for him, held him close and showed him what love felt like, or that love could feel so incredibly good. But when he kissed you now, just before you fell asleep in his arms, he knew that he doesn’t need to worry about having to live without you ever again.

You're my last hope
Summary: Y/n wants help and the only person who listens to her is sherlock.. so she goes to him but the question is : will he help her ? Will he notices that she needs help?
Warnings: mention of loss , nightmares Dr*g use
--------------------------------------------
As the rain poured on the streets of London y/n was standing in baker street 221b outside of the door of the most famous detective Sherlock Holmes..
y/n was still hesitant wither to knock or just leave , she finally decided to knock on the door an elderly woman answered the door .. Ms. Hudson
“oh , hi dear you must be here for Sherlock” she says excited by the fact that Sherlock has got a client after a long time
“yes , is he here?” y/n asked quietly as she moved her umbrella out of her view, Ms. Hudson moved out of the doorway so y/n can go in
“Yes , just go upstairs” she says as she took y/n’s umbrella
y/n thanked her and went upstairs and knocked on his door
“no Ms. Hudson I don’t want any te-“ his sentence was cut when he opened the door he found y/n standing in front of him , it’s been a while since they saw each other
“Well that’s a surprise” he says smirking slightly as he moved away and sat on his chair
y/n was still standing at his doorway fiddling with her fingers behind her back
of course that did not slip from Sherlock , he immediately noticed her nervousness
“please , have a seat” he said as he pointed at the chair were his hands rested on the arms of his chair
y/n stepped in and sat on the chair that was in front of him
she took a deep breath quietly still don’t know how to approach him after all she wasn’t here for a case…
“so , what do I own the pleasure ?” he says as he crossed his legs
“I need your help” she says simply her eyes frowning in concern
“I’m all ears y/n” he says gently even tho he feels lightheaded he whished he didn’t take the last dose
He clenched his eyes pinching the bridge of his nose
“Are you alright?” y/n asked quietly
“yes , yes I’m fine” he says but it came harsher than he intended to
There was a pause of silence but y/n decided to break it
“So I’ve been having this dream over and over again non stop and it’s driving me mad” she says letting out a shaky breath at the end
“I solve cases y/n not dreams!” he says sternly as he got up
“Just hear me out as a friend” she says desperate for help
“I can’t sleep , it’s driving me mad” she says quietly
He looked at her a slight concern hides behind his cold gaze that he did not show
He glanced at her wrists that was slightly shown under her sleeves and saw some scars but he didn’t mention them
“A dream you say?” he asks as he turned his gaze back at her as he paced around the room glancing at her dress eyeing her up and down reading her expressions and movements and the way she’s fiddling with her fingers her hands slightly shaking with anxiety.
Above and to the left of her head from his perspective, imaginary chalk writing appears in large letters reading “liar” but he shakes his hands in front of him to make the thought  go away.
He knew y/n well and a liar isn’t her , y/n was still sitting in her place watching every move he does
“Do you want me to continue ?” she asks quietly deciding to break the silence
As he heard her speak he stopped in his track his thoughts stops as he does so..
“Oh yes please’’ he say as he sat back down on the chair
“It’s always a small girl got stuck on a plane where everyone was asleep or dead I don’t know” she says as she stood up biting on her nails
“The annoying thing … you’re always in my dream” she continued
Sherlock looked interested now he leant forward placing his elbows on his knee his chin resting on his hand “what do I do in your dream ?”
“I -I don’t remember … you’re talking but it’s almost I can’t hear it like you’re far away” she explains quietly as she kept pacing around the room
“And – and when I wake up I’m always sweating and shaken up a bit dizzy” she continues her voice growing vulnerable
“It feels like I’m going crazy .. when I told my friends they said it’s fine just let it past but I can’t” she says as her pacing didn’t stop.
“What do you mean you wake up dizzy ?” he asks as something clicked in his mind she was about to respond but he cut her with another question
“do you live alone or with someone a family member ? friend? Boyfriend”? He says rushed as he got up and went to the window looking outside and then turned back at her
“No .. I live alone why?” She asks as she stopped her pacing but kept biting on her nail
“It can mean different things , maybe you just need to see a therapist to get rid off the nightmares or someone seduce before you sleep” he says simply as he shrugged his shoulders How on earth-“ he interrupted her
“Hang on a minute” he turns to the window  “I was looking out of the window. Why was I doing that?” He says to himself but he shook his head as he turned to face her again
“What else did you see in that dream ?” he asks urgently
“A woman … she has long dark hair … but I saw her on the streets once and I thought it’s normal to dream about someone you meet once righ-“  Sherlock interrupted her
“yes , yes it’s normal but if she keeps showing up maybe it’s not”
“She always keep saying ‘there’s no way to run’ ” y/n says quietly
Raising his head he looks across to y/n, then does a double-take and notice the wet patch on the top of her dress’ right shoulder. Looking away briefly, he returns his gaze to her and three chalk words appear above her, one over each shoulder and one over the top of her hair. Each word reads “damp”. Hauling himself to his feet, he waves his hand at her twice and the two words over her shoulders dissipate while she flinches away from him, then he sweeps his hand over the top of her head and the last word also dissipates and the chalk dust floats away. She looks up at him nervously as he reaches out and touches his fingers to her right shoulder
“Coat” he says simply
“What ? I don’t have a coat” she says confused noticed how he completely changed the subject
“Yeah, that’s what I just noticed. I wonder why?” he says as he walked past her to go to the kitchen
“Sherlock you can’t just leave me now” she says as she went behind him but he stood in front the kitchen as he was blocking her view from something
“Night-night!” he says as he closed the kitchen doors in her face
“You’re my last hope, please” She says quietly as she was still standing in front the closed door , he opened the door slightly just to reveal his face “Really? That’s bad luck, isn’t it?” “Goodnight. Go away.” he says as he slides the doors closed. She shuts her eyes in despair.
She took her bag and headed downstairs , as she was  just opening the front door , she heard a rushed footsteps coming down the stairs  “Stop. Wait!” Sherlock says loudly
She turns to see Sherlock half-hurrying and half-falling down the stairs, his right hand braced against the wall. He stops at the bottom of the stairs
“Your life is not your own. Keep your hands off it, do you hear me?” He says urgently , y/n stares at him looking confused
“Off it..” He says sternly as he paused to catch his breath
“the scars”  he says as he pointed at her scars on her wrist
she pulled down on her dress sleeves
“you never saw them” she says quietly
“I don’t need to see them , it’s a simple dedication for a woman like you” he says breathing heavily slightly
“after your mom passed away when you were a teen , it took a part of you y/n I’m not an idiot” he says gently as he was about to reach for her arm but he flinched back
“You become distance and not optimistic like you used to ... I know you y/n .. so I know when you're sad” he adds quietly as she approached her
“this visit wasn’t just about the dream right ?” he says softly
“you needed someone to talk to isn’t it ?” he added
she looked down to keep her watery eyes away from him ,
“why you didn’t talk with your family ?” he asks quietly
“I don’t want to be a burden” she answered sniffling slightly
Sherlock sighs quietly as he approached , He tentatively raises his arms, perhaps hesitating momentarily for fear of being rejected then slowly puts his left hand onto y/n’s arm and his right hand onto her back before sliding it upwards to gently cradle her head. He moves closer, sliding his left arm up to her back
“it’s okay” he whispers gently
y/n was shocked but also grateful by his comfort , she placed her head gently against his chest “it’s not okay” she says her voice is shaky
He lowers his cheek onto the top of her head and he adds softly “no , but we will figure it out … together”

Sherlock Holmes x Detective!Reader
Requested by: Anonymous
Summary: After your father stepped down as a detective, you decided to take over and got on your first case. What you did not expect is a letter standing on your front porch from a person you wanted to leave in the past…
Warning: smut, nsfw 18+, murder
A/N: Hello everyone! I have not written a smut in a long time so if this is bad just let me know. English is not my first language, so let me know if I made any mistakes. I do not allow for my work to be posted or translated on this or any other platform. 🫶🏻🫶🏻
Tumblr media
Ever since you were little you were introduced to the world of the detectives. Your father was a detective him self and was also, your biggest role model.
You two have traveled all around the world to solve cases together. You were his little Nancy Drew.
As years went by your father became old and decided to step down, meaning that you would have to take over his job. You were excited at first, until you got on your first case.
There has been a murder in a neighborhood not that far from yours. The person who was murdered was a young woman, probably in her late 20s. Her body was found by her sister who came home late at night that day. Her sister owns one of the most popular bookshops in town and that day, the bookshop held a small event, celebrating the success of a new book that was recently published by a writer that was from the town. The book became really popular not just in your town, but also across the country so they had a reason to celebrate.
Her sister sent you a letter asking you if you could solve the murder and you agreed.
Solving murder cases were not your thing since your father never allowed you to help him whenever he was asked to solve a murder.
But your father has stepped down, and now you are the one in charge so you have to try your best.
The woman’s sister invited you over to their house so you could investigate.
The living room where her body was found looked pretty normal to you and did not see anything suspicious.
“Was your sister at the event too?” You asked the woman.
She looked at you for a few seconds before she spoke. She was still in shock after finding her sister’s body so you understood why she took her time.
“She was, but only for a short amount of time. She said that she was not feeling well and wanted to go home. I told her that we can go together since its dark and could be dangerous but she did not want me to leave since she that the event was important to me. After a hour or two I kinda felt that something was wrong and was scarred that something might have happened to her so I left to see if she was doing okay. I was first relieved to see that the lights were on but that quickly changed when I saw her lying lifeless on the ground.”
You noted every detail before asking her other questions.
“Did she act differently at the event? Was she maybe scared or maybe uncomfortable?”
The woman took her time since she tried to remember the way her sister acted.
“What I remember is that she was a little bit scared, like she saw a ghost or something but I brushed it off since she was often scared or shy whenever she was crowded by the people. What surprised me the most is that she requested to walk home alone at such late hours. She never went out when it was dark unless there was someone with her, but I thought that she was brave enough to alone so I let her. I also saw that she was walking fast, like as if she was running from someone.”
You noted every important detail about the night.
You asked the woman if she had any scars. Anything that would prove that she was murdered.
She told you that she had bruises on her body, mostly on her neck. She also told you that police and doctors believe that the killer held their hands on her neck until her last breath. There were a few scars that were caused by a sharp object that could have been a knife or other things like glass.
That’s everything she knew since they are still trying to find the cause of death before she is laid to rest.
You went around the house to see if the killer left something or dropped something. You found nothing.
Her sister let you search in her room.
You checked everywhere until you opened a box that was hidden under her bed. The box was full of letters.
All the letters she has received were from a guy named Connor Smith.
Most of them were love letters where he declared his love to her, until you opened the letter that were sent to her only a moth before she was killed.
You could definitely see that his love turned into obsession. He told her that she will always belong to him. That he was the only man she was allowed to love. He also wrote her that she should stop seeing the man she was out with once, which meant that he was probably stalking her.
You exited the room so that you could talk to her sister.
“Do you know if a man named Connor Smith was at the event?”
The woman looked at you with a weird look on her face.
“Yes, Connor used to work at the bookshop until two weeks ago. I invited him since he help us a lot with the bookshop.”
You noted that down.
“Did you maybe see him around your sister that night?”
“I am just asking because he sent your sisters some letters so I need to know. Was Connor around your sister that night?”
“Yes he actually was. They talked about something and maybe a half an hour or so she asked if she could go home since she did not feel well.”
You noted that down too and told her that you will come back in a few days. You also told her that she should tell you if she found something suspicious or any new clues.
You thanked her for inviting you over and left her home.
After leaving their home, you stopped at the local marked and bought some groceries since your dad requested it in the morning before you left.
You brought everything that your father requested and left. When you arrived to your house, you saw that there was a letter at the door.
Ever since you got this case, people would not stop asking you about it. They wanted to know everything. You have received letter from people in town who wanted to be part of the case. You even received letters from the local newspaper with dozens of questions.
Who did it? What clues did you find? Any suspects?
All you wanted was to be left alone and solve this case in peace.
Before you opened the letter, you stored the groceries that you brought and made your father some lunch since he was starving. Poor man.
Leaving your father to eat in peace, you went to your room and opened the letter.
I heard that you just got your first case
If you need any help, I am there for you
S.H
You instantly rolled your eyes when you saw who sent you the letter.
Sherlock Holmes, one of the most successful and most popular detectives in the world. He was smart and intelligent, knew several languages and every case he got, was solved.
But you knew Sherlock way before he even became a detective.
You two used to be lovers until he became a detective and made it his priority.
You did not care at first. You were happy that he was doing something that he loves.
Until, he started to travel around the world to solve cases.
During that time you would miss him a lot and wrote him letters daily. He never responded to one of them.
After he came back from Spain, solving a case that involved kidnapping, he admitted cheating on you with other woman so he could get some information out of her since she was one of the main suspects.
He told you that it meant nothing to him but you did not believe him, so you left him.
And after five years of no contact, he sends you a letter saying that he will help you with the case. What an idiot, you thought.
You ignored his letter and went off with your day.
You went down to the town center to visit your favorite cafe, hoping that you could relax and read the notes you took while visiting the victim’s sister.
You sat down at your favorite spot, outside since it was a nice day and the sun was shining, and ordered some coffee and your favorite cookies.
You were so lost in the notes you took that you did not notice the person standing behind you.
“Well, we meet again sweetheart.” He spoke softly
That made you jump since you did not know that he was behind you. You even realized that others were staring at you.
Turning around to see the figure behind you, you could not help but to roll your eyes again.
It was Sherlock.
He took the seat next to yours and sat down, meanwhile you started reading your notes again, ignoring Sherlock
A few seconds went by before he spoke again.
“Are you going to ignore me again”
You did not say anything as you still read your notes.
“Did you receive my letter” he spoke
You looked up at him
“I did” you spoke back
“I meant everything I wrote in the letter. I am willing to help you with the case if you just let me…” He could not even finish the sentence because you cut him off.
“I do not need your help. I am capable of solving it alone.” You spoke harshly
Sherlock understood why you were like this since he has hurt you a lot, but he really wants to help you.
The lady who works at the cafe, came with you order.
You were about to pay her, but Sherlock was faster.
He payed your order and ordered some coffee too. The lady noted down Sherlocks order and left.
“What do you know about the case?” He asked you.
You knew that he will not give up so you just answered him.
“Well I visited her sister today. She is terrified and wants answers to why could someone do this to her sister. I asked her a few questions about that night. She told me that her sister did act weird and that she was scarred. She described it as she has seen a ghost. She later on leaves the event at around midnight, saying that she does not feel well. Her sister feels like something is wrong and goes home to check up on her only to find her dead in the living room. Her body has both bruises and scars. Most of the bruises were on her neck and doctors and the police believe that the killer killed her by pressing their hands on her neck until her last breath. The cuts were caused by a sharp object. Could have been a knife or glass but I did not find anything suspicious until I checked her room where I found letters from a man named Connor Smith. He has sent her too many love letters over the years. The last letters she received from him was a month ago. In the letters, it said that she should stay away from the man that she was seeing because he did not deserve her. I suspect that Connor was stalking her too, but I can not say that its clear that he did. I asked her sister if Connor was at the event, which she said that he was and that they had a conversation. Shortly after their conversation, her sister came up to her, asking her if she could go home since she did not feel well.”
“So, this Connor is the…” Sherlock spoke before you cut him off.
“Is the main suspect, but I need to find the name of the other guy she was seeing. He could also be a suspect or may know something we don’t.”
Sherlock nodded as he listens to you.
“What are your plans now for the case?” He asks
“Well, they are still checking for a cause of death, but the main theory of the death cause is that the killer killed her by chocking her very hard until she took her last breath. I wanted to hear if they have found something in her body since she said that she was not feeling well. Could be because she was talking to Connor, but it could also be that she was..” You spoke, but to your surprise, Sherlock cut you off.
“Poisoned” he spoke
“That’s one of my theories, but I could be wrong.”
“At this point everything is possible.” He spoke before asking you more questions about the case.
“Do you know where Connor lives?” Just then, the lady comes out with Sherlocks order and he pays.
“Well, no but he used to work at the bookshop where the event was being held at so they probably know.”
Sherlock nodded and then drank his coffee. Then you realized that your coffee and food is still untouched so you take a bite of cookies and drink some coffee too before you speak again.
“We have not seen each other for five years and then you all of a sudden send me a letter where you will gladly help me with my first case. Why?!”
Sherlock looked at you for a moment before he spoke.
“The truth is that I wanna make it up to you and helping you with your first case would be my honor. I know that was an idiot for doing the things back then, and regret doing it. I regret hurting you and most of all, I regret leaving you.”
At that moment you told your self “he does not mean it”, but then you saw that his eyes are filled with tears that are threatening to spill.
“I don’t know if I can forgive your for hurting me back then, but what I know for sure is that we can try again, but…as friends for now.” You spoke while looking at him
“I understand but could I at least help you with the case?” He asked as a smile began to form on his face. You chuckled since you could not take him seriously.
“Fine, I would be needing some help.” You said while chuckling.
Both of you finished your drinks and you shared your cookies with Sherlock before standing up and leaving.
You walked around town and talked about each others lives.
He told you about the amazing places he visited while solving cases.
From Paris to Moscow, and even Cape Town. He told you that he can bring you with him when he travels again.
You smiled at that, already imagining the places you two could visit, but that imagination was cut short when you told yourself that you have moved on and wanted to stay as friends.
Well, so you thought.
You walked together for what seemed like hours, but it was only 10 minutes.
You two found yourself standing on Sherlocks porch.
Sherlock opened the door and yelled “Hello!?” to see if anybody was home, but it was dead silent.
“Well turns out we are alone” he said while turning to look at you.
You gulped hard, since the last time you were alone with him in his house was when you had your huge fight with him because of his affairs. You ended things with him and stormed out. You have been there to visit Enola and her mother but you were never there when Sherlock was back.
You headed towards his office to focus more on the case.
You went through the notes you took, to see if you can at least solve something. What bothered you the most was that you did not know the name of the other guy she was seeing.
It would have been much easier to know since he could tell his side of the story, but right now he is on the list of the main suspects.
“How are we going to find the guy she was seeing if don’t know his name or have any description of him?” He asked
“I don’t know but I think its best for us to investigate and see if Connor is behind her death. Besides, the news have spread around town, so he is going to come forward sooner or later.”
“You are probably right” He sighed
During the time you spend in his office, you would often notice that his hand would often brush yours or your waist. You did not mind at first but he kept on going so you decided to confront him.
You pulled away from him and yelled “Alright Sherlock, ever since I got here, you would not stop touching me!!! So if you don’t have anything better to do then I think that I should leave!!”
You were about to exit his office when he suddenly pulled you into a kiss. You really hated yourself at that moment since you gave in.
He pulled away and looked into your eyes before he spoke.
“These past years without you have been hell and everyday I hate myself even more for hurting you and don’t think I could ever forgive myself for making my work my priority and doing all those disgusting tings I did that hurt you. I think about you, I dream about you every damn night and I love you…more than anything in this world.”
You looked at him with tears in your eyes, and did not know what to say.
Sherlock later on took you to his bedroom without pulling his lips from yours. He laid you down on the bed before pulling away from you to take his shirt off. He then helped you get out of your corset and rest of the dress. He finally took his pants, along with his underwear. He then laid on top of you and began kissing your neck.
“May I??” He asked for your permission. You have done this while you were still lovers but it was a long time ago so it was the only right thing to do.
“Yes” You blurted out.
He slowly lined himself on your entrance and began thrusting. You both began moaning softly while he kept a slow pace since you needed some time to get used to his size.
“Fuck, it feels so good” He said.
You could not form any words at the moment because of the pleasure.
Sherlock later on sped up the pace and you were a moaning mess.
“You okay sugar?” He asked while thrusting into you.
“Yes! It just feels soo goood!” You said.
Both of you reached your limit and were out of breath.
“Did you really mean everything you said?” You asked.
“Every word. Do you think that we can try again?” He asked
You were skeptical about that but you had other plans.
“Well first of all, it would take some time for me to trust you again so you would have to prove it. Second of all, yes we can but as friends for now until I know that I can trust you again.”
Both of you looked at each other and smiled. He came on top of you again and gave you one last kiss before you both doze off.

A New Years Kiss
Part One: A Christmas Rose
Plot: After an agonizing wait over the holidays, you finally get to see Sherlock again at the Tewksbury family New Years gathering. Will you find out if the rose was truly meant for you?
Pairing: Cavill!Sherlock Holmes x Gn!Reader
Words: 2.2k
A/n: In Victorian times they did not celebrate New Years as heavily as we do today. The rich families would often be the only ones to hold parties or they had "open houses". So this is based around that a bit. With a little modern New Years kiss theme thrown in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-
As you stepped down from the carriage, your eyes ran over the Tewksbury's residence. You often forgot just how large it was.
People mingled outside, greeting each other before slowly making their way inside. Your heart beat was heavy as you took a deep breath and made your way towards the house.
Spotting Enola lingering outside, you approached her. As she spotted you, you saw her smile.
"Y/n, thank God, I was afraid I would have to go in alone."
"Isn't Tewksbury greeting you?"
She sighed "No, alas he is busy hosting, he has to greet everyone with his mother."
"Everyone? I do not envy him"
"No do I." She sighed as she looped her arm through yours. "Come, lets go inside."
As you began entering the house, your eyes cast over the crowd. You wondered if Sherlock was here yet. Was he still coming? It had been torture for you having to wait until this party to see him.
You had given in once, a few days prior and went to his apartment. But he was not there. So you had to wait. But you could not help but worry that he might not come tonight. How long would you have to wait to see him then?
What if he did not leave the rose after all, and your anxious waiting meant nothing?
Shushing your own thoughts you looked over at Enola. "Is it true your brother is coming?"
She nodded "Oh yes, apparently he has a very important reason to be here, though he wont tell me what that is exactly. I can't help but think it is about a case he is working on. He is here somewhere." She glanced over at you "He asked if you would be coming as well."
You tried to hide any emotion you might be feeling "Did he?"
You saw something akin to curiosity cross her face, but it quickly faded when she spotted Tewksbury motioning for her to come over to him.
Looking over at you, you nodded "Go ahead. I'll be around."
Smiling, she darted off to go to his side, and you smiled at them. They made a cute couple. Looking around, your heart began beating a bit faster as you wondered where Sherlock was. You wanted to look for him, but feared you might be getting in his way if he was really here working on a case.
Saying hello to a few people you knew, you grabbed a drink and stood at the edge of the room, your eyes casting over the art pieces the family had set out for people to admire.
When some time had passed and you had yet to see Sherlock, you started to doubt he was still here. Maybe something happened and he had to leave.
As people began filing into the large dancing hall, you followed, continuing to stand at the edge of the room.
As Sherlock entered the large room, his eyes found you almost immedietely. You were dressed in an elegant outfit that suited you very well. You looked slightly nervous as you stood among the crowd.
Ever since the day you exchanged gifts, he was tormented with thoughts about how you found the rose. Did you immediately think he left it? Did you return his feelings? Did you even find the rose within the pages?
Walking through the crowd and around the room, his eyes remained on you as he grew closer. A dance would be starting soon, he did not dance often, but with you, he would very gladly do so.
As couple after couple made their way into the middle of the room, including Enola and Tewksbury, you felt an odd sense of jealousy. You were not much of a dancer, but you would like to experience the thrill of dancing closely with someone you had feelings for.
As if on queue, a voice spoke near your left ear, taking you by surprise.
"Would you like to dance?"
Looking over, you saw Sherlock standing close behind you, leaned over to speak softly to you. His hand was placed out for you to take, and a small smile on his face as he met your eyes.
You felt at a loss for words for a moment, but you smiled and nodded "I would love to" You finally muttered out shyly.
His smile grew slightly as he took your hand in his and lead you to the dance floor.
You were not unaware of the mutters that followed as people saw Sherlock Holmes leading a mostly unknown person out onto the dance floor. But you didn't care about their opinions, much.
Your heart was fluttering, and your chest was tight as Sherlock pulled you closer to him to prepare for the dance. Your eyes met and he still held the familiar soft smile on his face.
As the music began, you quickly fell into rhythm with everyone else on the dance floor. There was a silent moment between you, before Sherlock spoke.
"I was glad to see you were able to make it."
"Oh yes, wouldn't miss it." There was a hint of sarcasm in your voice that made his lip quirk. "I was still a bit surprise you came yourself. Enola said you were here for something important. A case perhaps?"
His smile changed almost to a soft smirk and you felt small jolt from your heart.
"The reason I came is important, but it does not have anything to do with a case"
The way his eyes studied you made you think he meant you were the reason. But you feared you may be hoping for too much.
"And what reason is that, may I ask?" Your voice was soft.
Sherlock could tell what you were hinting at, and this was enough to tell him what he wanted to know.
Spinning you around to the music, he pulled you close to him again your back against his chest, as his voice spoke softly in your ear.
"I wanted to know what you thought of my gift."
You felt a shiver roll through you as his lips just brushed your ear. Twirling you back around to face him again, your came chest to chest, your face hovering just in front of one another before you stepped back and continued with the dance.
"The book? Or the other gift within it?" You didn't say explicitly what it was, but your word were obvious enough.
He smiled at your choice of words "Both." He said simply.
"I adore the book, and I've already read it front to back twice." His eyebrow quirked and you smiled. "And the other-"
Pulling you close to him against, his face hovered close to yours as you moved around the room in dance. You were sure there were eyes on you, but you didn't care.
"I loved." Your voice came out softly.
"Loved?" He repeated, his own voice soft.
"Such a beautiful color. And the meaning-" You seemed to be losing your train of thought as his face remained so close to yours.
"Is returned, I hope?" He finished, just as the music ended.
You stopped as everyone else did, but remained locked on each other before you pulled your eyes away to clap for the musicians. Sherlock did the same, his own chest tight as he looked back at you.
He was unable to say more before a group of men started to make their way over to him, already speaking loudly, asking questions and trying to gain his attention.
He saw you step away, somewhat alarmed by the interruption. Gently grabbing your elbow he leaned in to whisper in your ear. "Meet me on the balcony at Midnight."
Stepping away again, he was almost swallowed by the group of strangers, most of whom you assumed were reporters or politicians.
Making your way away from the crowd, you looked back, only able to see glimpses of his face. You felt pity for him, knowing he hated this kind of attention. And you felt anger, for being interrupted at such an important and intense moment. Looking at the clock nearby, you noted it was nearly forty minutes to twelve.
You sighed as you looked back to here Sherlock had once been. You assumed he had been dragged off by the group of people. You dd not envy him, but you wished you had someway to help him.
"You and my brother seemed to be deep in conversation during that dance."
You jumped slightly at Enola's voice. Turning, you saw her standing beside you, having not even heard her approach.
You cleared your throat lighlty "Yes."
"Did he tell you about the case?" She asked with obvious curiosity in her tone.
You shook your head "He is not here for a case." Your heart jumped slightly. Should you tell her more? What would she think?
Her smile widened as she moved a little closer "Well that confirms the other thing I had a feeling about then."
"Feeling about what?"
"That he was here to see you."
Your eyes glanced to his last location before you looked back at Enola. "Why would you think that?"
She rolled her eyes slightly "Because ever since I introduced you, he always asks about you, wants your opinions, and his eyes follow you everywhere, every time you are around, it's obvious he has feelings for you. "
You felt heart rise up your neck and ears.
"Sorry was that too much?" She asked as she noted your change in demeanor.
You smiled and shook your head "No, I just...didn't know it was obvious."
She smiled "Well your feelings for him were obvious too. But, surprisingly I don't think they were obvious to him."
Deciding to tell her vaguely about what happened between you and Sherlock, she kept you company asking questions and going on long rants about how cases might work after you and Sherlock got involved. You simply listened, too overwhelmed by her ideas and thoughts to say anything.
After some time she tapped you aggressively on the shoulder and pointed at the clock.
"It's nearly midnight."
"Oh!" You said with a jolt "I should go."
She nodded her head hurriedly as she ushered you away, watching as you made your way towards the balcony.
Stepping out onto the balcony, you looked around for Sherlock. Seeing he had not come out yet, you let out a soft breath and wandered over to the balcony's edge. You looked out at the property, seeing groups of people scattered around. The night was brisk, and the stars were bright in the sky.
"Y/n." Your voice was spoken from behind you, causing you to turn around.
Sherlock stepped out and smiled at you, closing the doors behind him. "I hope I did not keep you waiting."
You shook your head "I've only been here a few moments. "
As he approached you, you felt jjttery and nervous.
"I'm sorry all those people bombarded you, I'm sure you did not wish to deal with that tonight."
He smiled "No, I did not. But it was not as bad as it could have been. Though I very much would have preferred being able to spend the time with you."
You smiled as you looked down towards your feet. He smiled at your familiar bashfulness. Stepping forward, he reached into his jacket and pulled something out
"I got this for you."
Looking up, you half-expected to see another purple rose. But instead, he was holding a beautidul dark red carnatin flower.
As your eyes lit up at the sight, Sherlock felt a jolt in his chest. You gingerly took the flower from him and met his eyes.
"You read the book front to back, yes?" You nodded softly and he smiled "What does it mean?"
You looked down at the flower again as you tried to recall the section on carnations.
"White carnations symbolize purity and luck, pink are for gratitude, light red for admiration, and dark red for love and affection."
He nodded softly and took a step closer to you. Reaching out, he gently touched the petals.
"Love, affection, dedication, and passion. Red carnations in general express that-" he paused as his eyes locked onto yours "-my heart aches for you."
You felt a shiver roll through you and your breath seemed to catch in your throat as he stared deeply into your eyes. Slowly, his hand rose and cupped your face, his fingers gently caressed you as he moved closer.
His face hovered just in front of yours as his eyes drifted down to your lips. There was thick tension in the silence between you, that was abruptly interrupted as fireworks shot into the sky from the yard below.
You let out a soft gasp as you and Sherlock looked over to see the bright explosions in the sky. Letting out a soft laugh, you looked back at Sherlock who had an amused smile on his face.
His fingers gently held your chin as he pulled you closer "Happy New Year Y/n"
"Happy New Year Sherlock."
His lips met yours softly as his hand slowly trailed from your chin to rest at your neck as he deepened the kiss. His hand then slowly moved to cup the back of your head as he pulled you closer. His other hand rested at your back, as he held you close to him.
As one of your hands held the carnation, the other reached up and wrapped around his neck as you leaned in and relished the kiss.
xx End xx
I'm really bad at ending fics lol, but I hope you liked it!~

Hi again! Oh yeah! I guess its request time then😂 (Also I love that gif😂) also right after I sent the first ask I had an idea for another Henry Sherlock x Peaky and I can't decide which to send so I'll send both separately and you can choose which one you like better! The original idea I had was for a Shelby sister Reader and the other is a Holmes sister Reader. But the first idea is this:
What if another Shelby sister moves to London and ends up being Sherlock's neighbor but he ignores her at first (or pretends to) even when she becomes friends with Enola. Then one day a man looking for revenge against the Blinders breaks into her home and almost succeeds in kidnapping/killling her but suddenly Sherlock appears and saves her. Then right as he's helping patch her up like half of the Shelby Company Limited +Co show up because they got the call reader was threatened. And after that reader and Sherlock gee closer and like Ada and Enola are constantly working to set them up! And yeah that's the first idea I had if you were interested!❤️❤️
Hey Love,
This request is just - I'm not worthy. But I hope this makes you happy. I have three extra pieces that I'll try to post tonight. Thanks for sending this in, I'm having a lot of fun with it!
Warnings: Reader is assaulted, kissing, fluff,
EXTRAS: Little extra bits of the story that give more context. I figured they might make it too long but I'm still super attached to them.
Kissing - Additional Short about kissing

You looked around the sun bathed flat in amazement, a sound you could never recall rang in your ears. Silence. It was quiet and only the furniture was put in place. Aunt Pol and Ada insisted on staying with you for the first night, in your world that was a party so naturally, Esme was in toe with them when they showed up. You all listened to records and drank yourselves silly. Gin and dancing, laughing and gossiping, your heart was soaring high when you eventually fell asleep on a pile of cushions.
However, in the morning, it was a different feeling entirely. You woke up first wondering how on earth you all could make a mess out of a practically unpacked apartment, but there it was. The anxiety from the booze started to hit you and laying still became impossible. Your stomach turned violently and your mind started to race with unwanted memories. Time to get busy, you groaned and got up for the day.
You ran out to get some bread and eggs for breakfast. The street was brutally loud and you were grateful for the little shop as the door closed and the sound was muffled. Eggs and bread turned into a large and heavy paper bag full of all sorts of things. You managed it well enough till you got to the top of the front steps. You nestled the large paper bag in one arm and struggled to get your keys out of your coat pocket.  The door swung open suddenly and a very tall man glared down at you. The paper bag fell from your arm as the man's gaze held you. He was very tall and broad, looking down at you with a displeased face.
“So-” You stopped yourself and shook your head this was not your fault. You picked the bag up and tried to hold your head high while walking around the large man, something that would have been possible if his shoulders didn't take up the entire doorway.
Your eyes rested on his collar bones that poked out of his nightshirt and you wondered how on earth someone could have shoulders so….
“221C?” His voice was deep and velvety and would have been very pleasing if he had sounded less grumpy. His crumpled hair and long sweeping robe made you wonder why he was going out at all.
You turned your head to the side as you met his eyes again, a move you regretted instantly.
“Normally people refer to me by my name.” You told him your name and reached out to shake his hand. He gave you a firm handshake and gave you another look over.
“Last night was a terrible experience. My work requires a large amount of concentration and -”
“Are you the new woman?” An overly cheery voice called out from behind the hulking man. He let out an exasperated sigh. A girl with long brown curly hair fought her way out of the doorway and bent down to grab a tin of coffee that had escaped in the fall.
“Im Enola - Holmes! This is my brother” She looked between the two of you and registered her brother's deep glare “he’s hungover - completely ignore him.” She said with a beaming smile. She ushered you past him into the hallway and started chattering. Your head was pounding but you tried to follow along with what she was saying.
“It sounded like a wild night, I don't think I’ve ever heard so much laughing.” She held onto your arm with the tin of coffee in the other hand and you felt weird being walked to your apartment by the girl. She must have been about 14 or so, something in her eagerness to speak with you made you feel she was lonely.
“You know I love parties, I know lots of jokes, and oh- do you run your own business. Your mail here has a company stamp with your last name. That’s really something, I’m excellent with numbers if you ever need accounting - not that you aren't good with numbers if you own your own business- ”
“Enola” The man called from their door across the hall.
“Sorry!” She gave you another big smile.
“Do you want a cup of coffee or tea?” You don't know why you asked her, caffeine was the very last thing that girl needed. But her eyes were lonely and you remembered what it was like at that age.
“No”
“YES!” they answered at the same time. The man looked at you almost apologetically.
“She wouldn't be any trouble. My sisters are here with my aunt, ah tonight was sort of a one-off. Sorry about the noise and everything.” You fumbled and your face flushed.
“No,” He said awkwardly. “ Not a problem I just - as long as it's not every night. I’m sure we can be just as loud.”  You gave him a nod and then opened the door to your apartment.
“Behave Enola” He called out before stepping into his flat with his mail in hand. She made an exasperated face and rolled her eyes.

You laughed as you came into the kitchen to see all three of them sat at the table in various positions that showed their hungover-ness.
“Everyone this is my neighbor Enola.” Esme didn't lift her head from the wooden table but a groan of acknowledgment rang out from a mess of dark curly hair.
Polly looked the girl over and lit a cigarette, then her eyes looked to you with a question.
“She bumped into me in the hallway. Enola this is my Aunt Pol and my sisters Esme and Ada.”
She gave them a wave and whispered a soft hello. Aunt Pol looked at her for a long while then gave a kind smile.
“So you live across the hall then?”
“Yes with my brother Sherlock Holmes - he’s a detective and I’m technically in training but I am taking clients,” Enola said proudly.
Sherlock Holmes, you thought to yourself for a moment brain foggy as ever. The detective from the papers? You didn't know what to think of the information as you put the kettle on the stove.
“A detective eh?” Pol gave her a nod. “Do me a favor and keep an eye on this one for me?”
“Sure thing. She can count on us.- You mentioned it’s just you living here now?”
You nodded as you started to unpack a box of mugs.
“I live in the neighborhood, but we are all from Birmingham,” Ada answered with a small smile.
“Birmingham! Holy - I haven't been before but I read this article once -” And off she went quietly rattling on and on. You got some eggs, ham, toast, and coffee on the table. Pol took Enola’s mug and filled it with milk before she could grab some coffee.
“It’s a dreadful habit dear. Have some milk.” She said knowing full well that she didn't need anything to wake her up.
The morning passed into the afternoon and eventually, Esme raised her head and ate up her breakfast. They made Enola laugh loudly and you felt she fit in with your girl gang well enough.
“You have a boyfriend then? How old are ya? Should call Finn over if not.”
“No” You and Pol answered at the same time. Finn was a good 3 years older than her and the last thing you wanted was her caught up in whatever he was working on these days.
“He’s my litter brother but he’s a hell of a troublemaker and a good few years too old for you.” You gave Esme a look and she shrugged.
“I do as it turns out. Well - Erm - don’t mention that to my brother if you don't mind?”  You gave her a big smile.
“Secret is safe with me.”
“As long as we get to meet him of course,” Ada added sensibly.
Soon enough the day passed by and you were left with a messy apartment to clean and many boxes to unpack. You said your goodbyes and enjoyed watching Enola light up as the women hugged her goodbye, with promises of saying hello the next time they came over to stay.
You closed the door and looked at the girl who jumped slightly.
“You probably want me to leave - sorry!” She looked flustered.
“Stay or go, I’m going to do some unpacking then start on dinner. You are welcome to stay if you like”
Enola took that invitation as a welcome to come over whenever she pleased. You thought it would start to bother you, but coming from such a big and loud family you found it comforting.
You watched her interactions with her brother closely the few times you happened to run into him. They would fight over all sorts of things and you weren't happy about it. It was one thing to argue with family but he was an adult and she, whether her family liked it or not, was still just a girl.
“Love, what happened to your parents?” You asked on a spring evening when you were both absorbed in books. They had been shouting at each other all morning and the question was burning a hole in your mind.
“Ah, do I annoy you?” She asked in a voice you rarely ever heard her use.
“No, you and Sherlock argue often I just - It’s none of my business but I -.”
“We argue a lot because we're both too smart.” She sighed like it was a heavy burden. “We see equally important things, but different things when we assess situations and whatnot. He hates it when I get involved in his cases, hates it even more when I’m right but deep down I know he doesn't mind all that much.”
You thought about her words and she let out another deep sigh.
“My mum felt it was her time to be on her own again, my father died ages ago. My other brother Mycroft - he’s a real twat. Tried to put me in finishing school - but you know about that from my first case.”
You gave a nod remembering the story. “Your mum felt you were okay to be on your own?” You looked at the girl and shuddered. London was a big city, and she was incredibly smart but she was still obviously more of a girl than a woman.
“Yep,” She said it firmly like she was trying to be proud but there was a sadness etched into her posture that you couldn't unsee. You thought of your own mother and something sank in your stomach.
“Well, I think you are entirely too much fun to be left alone. The world is big and lonely. Better to stick together with those who are worthy.” You said watching her face light up slightly. “Aunt Pol was calling to see if I’d met your fella by the way.” Pol had not mentioned it in her phone calls, but you said it anyway to make her feel like she was a part of things. She beamed.
“I’ll take you and Ada to see him.”
“Excellent. Baking cookies tomorrow, if you want to help?” she gave you a big smile.
“Despite my extensive knowledge of chemistry, I’m awful at baking.”
“Eh, you just need to learn.” You shrugged. “One more chapter then we best be off to bed.” A lie that was told frequently in your house. You both read until the wee hours of the morning, multiple cups of peppermint tea made and drank.
You jumped out of your chair when a hand lightly nudged your shoulder. Out of instinct, you threw the book at the man. Sherlock was there and Enola was happily asleep on the couch open book resting on her chest.
“Sorry!” You whispered. Sherlock only picked up the book you were reading and then gave you a long look. A thick flush covered your face as you accepted the book back from him. He always made you feel embarrassed and with both of them having all that fancy pants knowledge you really wished he would have caught you reading something of substance.
“Erm-I” You fumbled. “What time is it?”
“Round six,” He said, still staring at you intensely.
“Ah, sorry I told her one more chapter - “ You looked at the stack of books “Two books ago - Sorry”
“It’s alright. I should be the one to apologize. Thanks for spending time with her. If it’s too much-”
“She’s not a problem.” You said with a finality that showed too much emotion. “I - things are complicated with your family - I only know because I also come from a complex family. But really she’s not a burden or someone that’s better left behind.”
Sherlock gave you a strange look and you found it impossible to look away from his deep blue eyes.
“Complicated is a good way of describing it.” He looked around your apartment and you felt extremely uncomfortable. “She’s going to be smarter than all of us soon enough though, I guarantee you she won't be forgotten.”
“Oh, I’m sure she’ll make it into the public’s eye sooner or later. I’m referring to your mother leaving her-”
“I won’t,” He said firmly and with his full attention turned to you. “Our mother had her own business to attend to, but I assure you Enola is safe with me.” His eyes held you in place and you hated how he made you feel like he could see everything that you were thinking and feeling.
“You shouldn't shout at her so much.” The words toppled from your mouth as you held his stare. This made the corner of his mouth stand up slightly. He looked like he was debating whether he wanted to start an argument with you or not.
“I’ll keep that in mind.” He kept looking at you and you were surprised at his response. You knew deep down Enola’s situation reminded you of yourself a great deal. Mother gone, and many fights with Thomas, but you had Pol to back you up, and the rest of them looking out for you all the time.
“Here - she can stay the night no point in moving her.” You got up and grabbed the thick blanket you left on the edge of the sofa for her. You expected him to already be out the door. He often abruptly ended conversations that is if he didn't ignore you completely.
“Why are you in London?” His voice made you jump.
“Wanted some space from the family.”
“Your sister lives here and your Aunt calls frequently? Space from your family or from your brother?”
“What do you know about my brother?” The hair on the back of your neck shot up.
“He gives my bother a hard time in Parliament. Really his arch rival of sorts.” Sherlock said and you wondered if he had been drinking.
“That pleases you?” You smiled at his unusual expression.
“Very much so. Although I know you lot had to struggle to get to where you are now.” His voice was back to its usual neat grumpy tone. “I don’t think it's a lifestyle you engage in?” He looked around your colorful apartment again.
“No. It’s not.” You said hoping he believed you. Sure you had gotten into your fair share of grim situations but the company had been legal for a long while now.
“Good.” He cocked his head towards you and his tone was light again. Something deep inside you wanted to do just about anything to keep his attention on you. With a small smile, he made his way out of your apparent closing the door softly.

Enola was gone to stay with her mother for the night. You knew that something inside you had run over the boundaries of a friend or neighbor when you lay in bed tossing and turning. You knew she was perfectly capable of protecting herself and it really wasn't your place, but something in your mind wouldn't rest.
Ada had gone back home to stay with Pol for a while, no one was answering the phone today. Now that you thought about it that was probably the main reason you felt worried. You thought about walking across the hall to see if Sherlock wanted help with whatever he was working on.
In the last case, Enola insisted on your help as all the clues were in Romani. This was probably a normal case that would be over your head but maybe he’d have you for tea anyway. You sighed and got out of bed grabbing your thick robe and wrapping it around yourself.
Opening your bedroom door you looked across the small flat and could see that the front door was open. Your first instinct was to move back into the bedroom but dark eyes fell on you before you could move.
“Just come with us quietly love, no fighting” two men made their way towards you. Your fingers wrapped around the poker for the fire and you made careful notes of their appearance before the fighting started.
You thought about the bedroom window behind you but the drop would guarantee your death. The front door was the only option. You held the iron poker in your grip tightly then the most sensible idea floated into your mind. If fighting didn't go as planned you were sure that screaming your head off would alert someone in the building.
The two men came towards you and you got the first one across the side of the face before jabbing him in the eye. The second man proved harder to smack no matter how determined you were. Eventually, he got the upper hand and a hard smack landed across your face. You took a deep inhale but his hand closed around your neck before you could scream. You tried to scratch and hit his face but your arms became too heavy before any substantial damage was done.
Your vision went hazy just as the man let out a loud cry. His hand released you and you watched a hulking figure pull screams from his body. Blood was spilled before the beast made his way toward you.
You tried to move away unsure of anything, still unable to see or hear properly. Big arms gathered you up and lifted you into the air.
“Calm down.” His voice was rough and you wondered how your body could switch from so panicked to letting go entirely.
He carried you across the hall and into his flat. It was the complete opposite color scheme but just as cluttered with books. He placed you down on the countertop in the bathroom. He switched the lights on and you let out a groan covering your eyes.
You watched him look you over for damage while your voice was stuck somewhere deep inside you. His rough hands traced the bruise on your neck and you let out a soft hum. He didn't move his hand and you looked up into his piercing blue eyes. A different type of tension settled between the two of you one that caused your bones to ache. Without further thought and with no one but God to judge you, you leaned forward and pressed a small kiss to his lips.
A part of you expected him to recoil in disgust or offense, but he pulled away placing his thumb over your lips. He pressed a soft kiss to the top of your head, and you struggled slightly. You wanted him so badly it hurt to breathe.
“You’re in shock.” He whispered with a softness you didn't know he possessed.
“So?” You mumbled against his thumb.
“So, see how you feel in the morning then try again.” He smiled slightly and you noticed how much blood had splattered up his arms. He got you settled in his bed and gave you some tea. He made some phone calls and after a long while, he came back.
Without any questions or stress, he started reading the book that he must have grabbed from your night table.
You thought you should tell him to stop but enjoyed the way his nose crinkled and how he started to argue about the character's motives.
“Men don’t think that way - surely you must know this?” he said looking down at you curled up in his blankets. The sun was just starting to come up and you were wishing there was a way for you to keep stuck in this moment.
“I have no idea how men think” You whispered up at him. Right then there was a commotion in the hallway.
“Oh, NO.” Enola’s voice had called out and you both shot up. You winced in pain as you followed him out of the room.
“Who are you lot? You need to tell me where she is right now.” Enola commanded in a voice that would have made the average person crumple.
Thomas, the man standing across from her was not the average person. His eyes flicked from her to you standing behind Sherlock. You caught the relief flooding his features and Arthur let out a deep breath from the living room.
“There she is. Tough girl.” Arthur came towards you and you let him pull you into a big hug.
Sherlock and Thomas stood still staring at each other in a way that made you worry.
“This going to be a regular occurrence?” Sherlock asked in a cold tone. John had squared up his chest when you noticed Ada seemed deeply pleased about something as she looked at you from your bedroom doorway.
“No,” Thomas said easily. “This is for you.” He pulled out a folded piece of paper.
Sherlock accepted the paper and sighed when Enola grabbed onto his forearm angling it so she could read it better.
“Moriarty!” She gasped. “Oh, Sherlock this makes perfect sense! The last case was in Romani, he must have known we had her help. We never ask anyone for help so -”
“So we put a gigantic target on her back.” He looked down at her with an icy expression and you hated the way it hit her.
“I take partial responsibility for that,” Thomas called out taking some of the blame off of the girl's shoulders. Not something you would have expected from him. “Moriarty has been pestering me for a meeting for a long while now. I assume this was his way of grabbing our attention.”
“Can she stay with you?” Ada asked in a sweet voice.
“Of course.” Sherlock and Enola both said at the same time in very different tones.
“She should come home, Tom,” Arthur said tightening his arm around your shoulders.
“She would be more help on the case here,” Enola said in a quiet voice.
“She won't be any safer back home. Plus she’s the only one Alfie enjoys working with. Lord knows we will need his help.” Ada added.
“If it's not any trouble” You looked at Sherlock. “I’d rather stay here and help.” You added moving your gaze to Tommy.
“Fuck.” he sighed. “You stay here, deal with Alfie.”
You smiled at the thought of how much it bothered your brother that Alfie would always keep his word if you asked him to.
“If that’s settled I should be off.” Thomas gave you a quick hug then Arthur and John followed him out with glances of warning to Sherlock.
“Alright, two of you go do your thing - with less shouting than usual. We will start on the mess in here.” You looked at Ada and she nodded.
“No, It’s technically a crime scene or whatever?” Ada looked at Enloa.
“Yes, she's right you should just move over to our side and leave everything as is.” Enola gave a serious nod and you couldn't help but think they were up to something.
“We will have to review the last case to see how it relates to this. You need to rest.” Sherlock put his arm around out and gilded you towards his apartment.
“Don't.” He said before you could start arguing. “Please just rest a bit for me.”
“Did you just say please?” You said caught off guard by his choice of words.
“Go to sleep.” He turned on his heel and left you to curl up in his bed. You got up for a while before falling asleep again on the couch listening to him and Enola go back and forth with different theories.
You felt him carry you back to bed and felt a moment of guilt realizing you shouldn't have made him carry you. He placed you back on the bed and you mumbled thanks. There was a moment of complete silence before you felt the bed dip under his weight.
“My brother has guards covering the building, I don't think there’s any more evidence in my flat if you want me to -” You said realizing there really wasn't a reason for you to stay in his space.
“I want you to stay.” He murmured into your hair and you felt his arm wrap around you. A heavy peaceful weight crept over you and you were very grateful to give him what he wanted.
“Then I’ll stay.” You whispered and he pulled you tight against his chest. You thought about that kiss, but you felt his breath even out. With sleep washing over you, you made a note to revisit that kiss in the morning.
