hey so would anyone be interested in a small theater group located in central alabama? (minor friendly with a chaperone) most likely renting a studio on the weekends in Birmingham! we could have play rehearsals and make the costumes ourselves, make the backdrops- record the final product and just have fun! it would be entirely working off of donations/fundraisers we do (or ticket sales, if we ever decide to do a live production!) I was thinking for a first musical, we could to Ride the Cyclone or Be More Chill!! so far we have 3 people in the discord, so DM me if this is something that interests? you? or if you just want more details!!

can’t think of anything to say other than it was everything I could have ever expected and wanted and hoped for. seeing them perform truly is an electric experience and I am so, so grateful I got to be there. I’ve never felt such overflowing joy and love in one room before and that truly is down to what a one-of-a-kind group Starkid is. the obvious double standard with which we as a society treat amab nonbinary people and trans women who don't fit the level of feminity that they're expected to is actually disgusting.

#I see it every day in the way my gm (and closest friend at work) is constantly misgendered without anyone apologizing #but everyone uses the correct pronouns for me and quickly corrects themselves if they mess up. #I see it in the way my nonbinary dad #couldn't be friends with women in our old homeschool group #without rumors being constantly spread that they were just trying to get in the women's pants. #I see it in the way my mom was disgusted and disturbed by discovering my dad's early forays into crossdressing #but is proud of me for being my authentic self. #I see it in the way my dad is still scared to wear a skirt despite frequently expressing a desire to #for fear of being seen as “an ugly man in a dress". #I see it in the way my theatre director is constantly called they or he despite clearly having she/her pronouns on her email. #I see it in the way my mom refuses to use the correct pronouns for my dad even though they are out to her #and constantly “forgets” my gm's pronouns even though I've used they/them for them for months. #deep down I know if I was born with a penis my mom would think of my transness much differently. #when “women” embrace masculinity they are seen as empowered at best and at worst as victims of the patriarchy. #confused little girls who don't know any better. #when “men” embrace feminity they are seen as predators. traps. manipulative freaks. #I see it every day. It's so deeply ingrained in our society it seems like there's no escaping it.

It seems we need to have a little chat about theater etiquette, especially concerning "notes"

You do not say a singular bad word about the show until you are in the car on your way home in private. If you're taking public transportation, not until you get home. Not a word.

I wrote little notes (a thing i do as a form of my appreciation for the arts to ensure i keep my full attention on the show and dont zone out. I rarely share them with anyone) during an intermission for a show I saw with my friend at this really small playhouse and he leaned over and read (very loudly) "why did you put *something critical about the opening number*" like DUDE THAT ACTOR'S MOM COULD BE SITTING IN FRONT OF YOU??? DON'T SAY SHIT WHEN YOU DONT KNOW WHOS GONNA HEAR IT

Even if the people around you don't know the cast/crew personally, they could have really enjoyed it. Say you thought an actor was pitchy and you said that out loud during intermission or after the show (God forbid you say it during the show) and the person next to you thought it was incredible. You're now diminishing that person's experience and making them feel stupid for thinking it was good. Their whole night at the show is now devalued because you said something bad and changed their perspective.

And these same people are going to be out in the lobby, by the doors, in the parking lot, taking the same bus as you, walking part of your route, going to the same restaurant... hold your tongue until you're somewhere completely private. It's just respectful.

#whether its a big theater or a small playhouse #even if its a high school play #even if its an elementary school play #or a church run show #or an actors group in the park thats probably performing there illegally #please #this goes for any entertainment #live entertainment especially #concerts and theater and comedy shows and open mic nights #but honestly i could almost see it in a movie theater too #maybe the person in front of you thought it was perfect and you start bitching about it and it ruins the movie for them #please be respectful #omfg #theater etiquette #theatre

It was Kyo who mentioned being inspired by Ban'yuu Inryoku. I'm pretty sure that I had checked some videos of them and might have commented about that after the linked post above. I meant to go watch one of their performances too.
