One thing I appreciate atla so much is that to me, it is found family trope done right, it doesn't have that stupid "this the mom and this is the dad this the brother" bullshit. Like it's just bunch of kids become friends and found themselves to be a family, you can argue "oww but katara act like a mother, sokka act like a father" blah blah but in reality it's just them being responsible and caring which suprise! Each and everyone one of them does that in their own way in different episodes!

For aang the gaang is literally his family after what he had lost, toph found them to be the one as they accept her as who she is, sokka and katara being raise in community that had tight familia bond accepts the two with open arms and I love that, zuko and suki ended up found their way with the rest too

And that's the beauty of it for me, I think atla quite literally the foundation of why I love found family trope so much,,, but lately I can't stand when people want to make it a nuclear family dynamic because it IS NOT.. 😭😭

My fave marauders ships and dynamics as a multi-shipper !! Ok so, there are certain ships I like to imagine as canon in the canon universe, and there are other ships that I prefer in aus and such but still ship them so much!! So I thought I’d just ramble abt them here lol.

My fave ships that are canon/I think I should be endgame:

First off, Jily ofc. My loves. I’m generally not super excited abt str8 couples but they’re just too cute. My fave dynamic with them is that they’re academic rivals — well at least lily thinks they are, James is just hopelessly in love with her and enjoys competition lol. Lily thinks he’s an idiot, immature and a bit of a bully at first but slowly warms up to him as she sees his kind-heartedness and stance on justice. Plus, she’s always found him a little hot :)

Wolfstar, duh. I don’t think I have to go into detail coz I already do so much on my blog lol.

Dorlene — aaah I love my tragic, angsty lil lesbians. Sucker for the quidditch-rivals-to-lovers trope. Ooh and i headcanon Dorcas as transfem. But yeah if you’ve read ‘the hands that feeds’ by rollercoasterwords that’s basically how I see their dynamic.

Fralice — cuties and did not deserve the ending they got ;((

Rosekiller — ok, ok. I know I’ve ranted abt how I don’t like the fanonization of their characters in fandom,, but I will admit I do like them together. Especially when they’re depicted as the awful people they are lol. I like to think that they’re still hooking up in GoF on nights where barty’s poly juice wears off lmaoo. Also random but I hc Barty to be in ravenclaw.

Pandora x Xenophillius (idk how to spell his name) — I like to imagine Pandora as a goth who runs an underground magical weed business and Xeno as a hippie weirdo and conspiracy theorist. Both are bi/pan tho and have def hooked up with ppl of the same gender before.

Andromeda x Ted Tonks — iconic. Love them. Andy was the og rebellious black family child.

Emmary — love, love this ship. For context, I picture Emmaline as a little older than Mary (maybe 2 or 3 years) and they meet when Em’s at the order. Mary’s a bisexual girlie who’s predominantly been with men at this point, and Em’s a big Butch lesbian who loves Mary so much but isn’t sure if Mary likes her back, at first. Ofc they end up together after the first war but when Em wants to join the second war, Mary oblivates herself and retreats to the muggle world entirely because she cannot bear more pain.

My fave ships that I like to think are semi-canon, as in their unrequited, or right person wrong time, or both have feelings that the other doesn’t know — they just don’t workout for some reason:

First off, Marylene — my absolute fave, right person, wrong time ship. Love the whole, ‘Marlene loved her too early, Mary loved her too late idea’. I’m a sucker for best friends to lovers ahhh. I imagine that Marls had crush on Mary since they were eleven and came out to her later, and although Mary was supportive she didn’t like her back at that point. Then Marls got with Dorcas and maybe Mary got a tad bit jealous. And then Marlene was killed ofc so Mary moved on and went with Emmaline, but she never really stopped loving Marlene.

Nobleflower — bi narcissa and Alice rights!! I like to think that they had a bit of a homoerotic friendship back in their hogwarts years, but the fact that they were on opposite sides eventually pulled them apart. And so Alice gets with Frank and Narcissa with Malfoy. Aaah so tragic I love them

Lily x Remus — I like to think Lily had a little crush on Remus when they were younger but she got over it and they became besties !!

Bellatrix / Lady Zabini — Toxic murder comphet lesbians!! Tho I imagine they ‘broke up’ their fling coz Bellatrix was murdering with pure blood fascism in mind,,, and lady Zabini was just like,, why can’t we just kill ppl for the sake of killing them?? 🥺🥺

Jegulus — ok so I don’t like jegulus as a canon(ish) ship, buuut I love me some unrequited jegulus, specifically from Regulus’ side coz sorry I just personally don’t see James ever liking Reg in canon. I imagine Reg goes into hogwarts wanting to hate the guy who stole his brother but ends up falling for him just the same. He has internalised homophobia and hates the fact that he’s gay, esp for someone like James lol.

Bartylus — My hc is that neither of them liked each other romantically, but they settled and got off each other to pass time. It’s transactional, at least it’s starts off being..maybe barty’s a little more into it than reg thinks they are.

Peter/Bertha Jorkins — I like to imagine they dated for awhile during hogwarts — until Bertha got bored of him and dumped him. Peter never really got over it and was still bitter.

Peter/Sybil — oooh I remember this one was trending on marauders tik tok awhile back but I’m still not over it. Happens after Bertha/Peter. Sybil breaks up with Peter maybe coz she gets a prophecy that he becomes evil. Peter is confused and heartbroken.

Snily — ok hear me out!! I don’t care for their portrayals in a lot of fics coz I think the pro / anti Snape bias is always there — but I would be open to exploring the complexity of their dynamic in a fic when snapes actions aren’t justified or excused, but he’s not portrayed as a one dimensional bad guy. And I think it would be interesting to explore more of Lily’s character and why she stuck by him so long.

Ok, now onto ships that I only enjoy in aus:

Marylily/macevans — by far my fave ship in aus. Best friends to lovers >>>> also half the marauders edits saved on my phone are marylily edits lmaoo they’re just so cute!!

Jegulus — requited this time!! If it’s an au and James is not reduced to a generic sunshine people pleasing character, then they’re a little cute I’ll admit. Not the biggest fan of the 'best friend's brother' trope but the drama is entertaining at least.

Mary/Dorcas — I don’t think they’re a very popular on here but I personally like it. In a way they’re opposites but they’re motivations are a lot more similar than they realise.

Pandalily — so, so cute. Fanart is spectacular

Dorlily — so academic rivals to lovers coded

Prongsfoot — specifically in aus where James and Sirius are on opposing sides, for example, slytherin!Sirius au

Wolfstarbucks — James and sirius share everything!! Including their lovers apparently. Mostly enjoy it as a crack ship tho.

A/N: This is based off of something that a friend of mine and her husband experienced. She's Indian, he's Black. And their little daughter, of course, is perfection. But it doesn't stop people from running their mouths. Please enjoy. And pay attention to the warnings! Part of my Growing Pains Series. Not beta'd. All mistakes are my own.

BiBi smiles at you from her perch in the cart. “Mama, don’t forget dah cheese for dah tacos.” She reminds you. 

“Thank you for the reminder, sweetheart.” You give her a quick kiss. “Mama doesn’t feel like making salsa tonight, so she’s gotta find the right one…” You keep looking. Maybe you needed to go back to the fresh produce section. It was June. They should have a fresh assortment of pico de gallo. 

You wait for Andy to make his way back towards you. “I got the flour tortillas, baby.” He presses a kiss to your cheek.

“You don’t have to kiss me every time you come back with an item on our grocery list. This isn’t a scavenger hunt, Big Man.” You offer him a saucy wink. 

“That’s what you think.” He murmurs.

Yeah, you liked it. And he knew it.

“BiBi, my darling, how about some crema with your tacos?”

“Yes!” Your five-year-old smiles. 

“Awesome! I’ll be right back.” You tell them both.

Not even sixty seconds after you walk off, a woman approaches them both. “Oh, she’s so cute!” She remarks as she sidles up next to Andy and your daughter. “You’re Andrew Barber, aren’t you? It’s so wonderful that you take your clients out for grocery shopping. You really are a class act!”

“What?” Andy asks, feeling genuinely confused.

“Hello there, sweetheart! How old is she?” 

The female stranger goes to touch her curls, although Andy is quick to block her hands. “Please don’t touch her.”

“Sorry, sorry. It’s the hair, you know? It’s just so pretty.”

“Do you need something?” He growls softly.

“I’m just a fan is all. I see you in the papers all of the time, and you seem to have such a generous spirit. Ooh! But I think I have a young lady that you’d love to meet. A man like you doesn’t deserve to be alone.”

“Doubtful.” Andy mutters. He goes to push the cart away, just as you approach. “Look, I’m marr-”

Oh, God. This won’t be good. He thinks to himself.

“Hey!” You call out. “I’m back with the cotija cheese.” 

“And you’re here with her mother too? Oh my goodness.” The woman turns to you. “You are so lucky to know a man like Andrew Barber. Not many attorneys would help their clients with groceries like this. Tell me, is it your son that’s in trouble? Is that what prompted him to help you? How bad is the case?”

Her hand goes to rest on your shoulder. You immediately shake it off. 

“Excuse me?”

“Lady,” Andy growls. “I don’t know what you’ve been sipping on, and I don’t care. She is my wife and this is my daughter. Jesus Christ!”

“Oh, God.” You hear the woman say as she backs up. “This is not okay.” She mumbles. Her hand going over her mouth. 

“What is not okay?” You ask.

“I’m not okay with this.” Random woman grabs your cart. With the quickness, you pry her hands off of it. “This is not natural.” She informs you and your husband. Andy places a quick kiss on BiBi’s forehead. “It’s not normal!”

“Don’t touch our cart!” You snarl.

“I is not normal, Mama?” Your BiBi looks up at you, confused.

This woman, whoever she was, was going to die tonight. 

“You are perfect, sugar.” You tell her before returning your attention to the woman. Just in time for her to go on a rant.

“You can’t sleep with your clients!” She exclaims.

“Not. My. Flipping. Client. Lady. I already told you, she’s my wife and has been for several years.” Andy is fed the fuck up.

The woman shakes her head.

“Listen, this baby is…well, just no. It’s important for us to be honest.” She waves her hands. “Everyone wants to be so PC. Let’s be real! Blacks are meant to be with Blacks. And Whites with Whites. We are not meant to intermingle like this, sweetheart. Not like this. If we keep going at the rate we’ve been going, everyone is going to be brown in like twenty years. Do you understand what I’m saying? Is that what you want?”

“Don’t really give a shit.” Andy responds with a smile. “My browned skinned wife is lovely, my browned skinned daughter is even lovelier. Mess with us and get yourself hurt.” He grunts. “I don’t believe in hurting women, but my wife happens to be a black belt in beating ass.” He presses a quick kiss to your lips. “Keep talking and see for yourself.”

“So you’re threatening me with violence?” She gasps, looking affronted.   “Oh, he’s not.” You tell her as you snatch your earrings out of your ears. “He’s just warning you that I am.” You shoot her a feral grin. “And when it’s all said and done, I won’t catch a case because I know the best lawyer in the fucking state you ignorant ass heffer.”

"You both are so confused, and you're confusing this child!" The lady stomps her foot.

"She tried to touch Bianca's hair, baby." Andy tells you, knowing what he was about to unleash.

"You did what?" You hiss.

"Ugh, you people always get so sensistive about your goddamned hair when you should be grateful that-"

Your husband hands you a random can of beans.

"Finish that statement and wake up with a concussion." You tell her.

The woman backs away. "I miss the good old days." She mutters.

"Hand me another can, Andy Bear." Which he happily does.

She scurries out of the isle and away deeper into the store.

"Love you, Y/N." He grumbles.

"Love you more." You peck his lips.

THINGS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT MY FELLOW WRITERS

Right, let's see how this goes.

Last book I read: Pride and Prejudice. Had never read it before but the whole Tim Downie cameo got me doing it. Then watched the BBC series with a friend and we swooned something major over Colin Firth. I've picked up some other books since then but just haven't found the motivation to get through them. Looking at Dark Tower book 5 as well for the last year...

Greatest literary inspiration: I'm honestly not sure. My partner is the real reader of the two of us. I've enjoyed Dark Tower, The Witcher Series (Honestly still in love with Cahir from them), and Leaves of Grass is my poetry go-to. But inspiration, going to be silly but the Hardcore series by Andy Remic (RIP), is such a great series of books. They're not the most literary genius type books but the action is cool, I love the characters. They make me want to write cool shit too.

Things in my current fandom I want to read but I don't want to write:

Smut. Honestly, my abilities with writing smut are limited. I have no patience for flowery language (yeah I write poetry but I know what I mean.) but it means when it comes to writing my own smut it is very matter-of-fact and lacks what I'm looking for. I'm also very picky about my smut due to an annoying logical brain. If you say someone moves their arm and then they move something else I see that and if I can't follow it directly I'm just going to put it down.

You can recognise my writing by:

Lots of short prose-type sentences. I like the effect of repetition and I especially like writing in a more personal talking type way. I especially love to monologue so if anyone does recognise my writing it's probably from these things. I especially love writing anything angst, it's so therapeutic and I love being able to draw out emotions from other people. I can do this with sweet fluff stuff too but angst really is more enjoyable.

My most controversial take ( current fandom):

I hate the word folds. (Not fandom relations but still.) Makes me think of a packed ham sandwich.

Fandom-related though - Astarion fans can get pretty feral over their views of his character. I get it, Gale fans are the same but I've left groups over the rabidness.

Current writing mood (10 – super motivated and churning out words like crazy, 0 – in a complete rut): Currently about a 4 but it can vary depending on the hour and the inspiration. I completed the Nana story and now feel a little lost as to what the next project will be. Ideas are escaping me.

Top three favourite tropes: The whole "enemy to lovers" thing. I mean this in a 2 people who argue and fall in love, not as in the real enemies to lovers.

Star-crossed lovers, especially if they really are both doomed. Astarion/Karlach if she is going to burn up. I love that tragic acceptance. Give me more of that.

I like a loveable rogue too. Hook from OUAT.

Share a random frustration: AU fiction losing characterisations. Once your fiction hits a point where you could replace the characters with any other from any other series I'm going to stop reading it. Things Chucky Does To Annoy Nica In Their Shared Brain (Nica still has hands):

Recounts the plot of the latest South Park or Rick and Morty episode he’s watched (he watches a LOT of tv when he has the body, when he isn’t killing that is)

He pulls up the most embarrassing memories he can find in Nica’s subconscious and painstakingly analyses them like he’s writing an essay on that particular memory, he doesn’t stop until Nica begins to cry

Complains about various things that annoy him, loudly and obnoxiously until Nica is hitting herself in the head with a pillow to shut him up

Brags about his kids and brings up the fact that Nica will never see Alice again or have her own kids, this upsets her more than it annoys her, but Chucky takes great enjoyment from it

“Junior double triple whopper” basically the whole thing over and over again until Nica calls out to Tiffany so she can get a distraction from it

Tries to recall the plot of Peter Pan and tells the story to Nica, constantly interrupting himself to say that he really resonates with Peter yet can understand Captain Hook’s motivation, because kids are annoying and he too would kill them

Ranks his top ten favourite murders, either by him or by serial killers he admires in extreme detail

Delivers a monologue length autobiographical account of his life,  being sure to linger over the months he spent with Nica’s mother and sister because he knows it annoys her

Rants about Andy Barclay, this isn’t specifically intended to annoy Nica, he just gets really angry whenever he thinks about Andy, and this inadvertently annoys Nica because he rants for a while

Tries to convince Nica to get into killing, because he knows she’ll never agree but he thinks it’s fun to watch her squirm

Chucky used to be good at art, and in the rare moments Nica draws or paints to pass the time (or when Tiffany gives her art supplies as something to do) he criticises everything she does, sometimes taking control of her hands to erase the lines she drew and start over

Recites memes that he learned when he had control of the body, specifically Family Guy and South Park quotes (he loves “Dancing, walking, rearranging furniture”)

Sometimes when he’s bored, he forces Nica to play I Spy, but the things he ‘spies’ are always obscure and random, like the tiniest speck of dirt on the floor at the other end of the room, and he won’t stop until she guesses, it can take hours

oh yeah he will also get pissed if you diss the band at their show or if you're just being an asshole and will deal with you personally

Random Album Review Week 7: Temple of the Dog - Temple of the Dog (1991)

TEMPLE OF THE DOG BABY!!!!!! Possibly the greatest supergroup of all time. When you have Eddie, Chris, Jeff, Mike, Stone, and Matt, in ONE BAND how can you go wrong? They killed it on this classic album, and I'm so excited to rant about it.

Where do I even start with this album, man. How bout some history?

Temple of the Dog was a grunge supergroup that formed after the death of Andrew Wood. In essence, the group's formation was a direct result of Andy's death. Chris Cornell, the frontman of Soundgarden at the time, was a very close friend of Andy's, and was devastated after his death. The rest of Mother Love Bone was also feeling lost after losing their bandmate and close friend. Both were looking for a way to continue on, and a way to process their love and grief for Andy.

So, Chris approached Jeff and Stone of MLB with some material that he worked on over his last tour, and recruited them for the band. Jeff also brought on Eddie Vedder and Mike McCready, who would go on to be the lead singer and guitarist of Pearl Jam respectively.

One misconception I had before I got super into grunge was that TotD was a super group formed after the groups involved were super famous. In reality though, this was Eddie and Mike's first taste of fame.

Since the entire band was grieving Andy's death, some of the songs on the album were about wood. Namely the first 2, "Say Hello 2 Heaven" and "Reach Down". "Say Hello 2 Heaven" is an especially heartbreaking song. The lyrics are about Andy's passing, and Chris's emotions regarding it. Its such a fucking soulful and emotional song. Yet its powerful. Its up-tempo, and Chris is fucking Screaming high notes by the end of it. It feels less like a mournful song than a celebration, and encouragement for Andy as he says hello to heaven. And man it makes me CRYYY sometimes!!!!!!!

One thing I love about this album is how well laid out it is. This album flows, and it flows well. The first song feels like a beginning and the last song feels like an ending. When I hear the first notes of "Say Hello 2 Heaven" it almost feels as if I am waking up into the world this album creates for you.

After "Say Hello 2 Heaven", there's "Reach Down", another powerful song that commemorates Andy. After this, there's "Hunger Strike". A beautiful, powerful duet between Eddie and Chris! This is the only song on the album to feature Eddie as a lead vocalist, though he did backing vocals on a few other songs. This song was also the most popular off of this album, and is honestly my favorite song. Its the most popular song for a reason. A few weeks ago I hyperfixated on this song SOO hard, I'd listen to it on repeat over and over and over again. I also absolutely love the music video for this song. I have GOT to visit Discovery Park in Seattle to walk around at sunset listening to this song. Ugh. Its just so good. Its such a simple music video too, but I love it and Eddie in that damn tall grass.

In general this album is one of my top albums of all time. I actually have 4 total copies of it in my house. One CD is my dad's copy, one is my copy, one is a copy my neighbor gifted me, and I have it on vinyl. Maybe with one more copy I can make a pentagram and perform a ritual to teleport myself to Seattle.

I really don't have anything bad to say about this album either. Its a no skip, its one of the greatest albums ever.
