Thanks for the request babes!! My first Aaron fic ever, so hopefully it's not too bad for a first 🥺 I hope this is to your liking ❤️
Warning(s): gn!reader, established relationship, talks of traffic accident, mentions of injuries, protective hotch, mean words (hotch is just worried abt you ok??)
This blurb was written as a part of the "Zara's Birthday Bash and Road to 1K" celebration.
Zara's Birthday Bash and Road to 1K Masterlist / Criminal Minds Masterlist
You heard him before you even laid eyes upon him.
Amidst the beeping machines and the moderate ruckus of the emergency room, Aaron's voice penetrated the air like a sword. The authority dripped like lava from his tone as he badgered Derek for your whereabouts, and before you could shuffle out of the hospital bed that had been your safe haven for the past hour, the cubical curtain surrounding you was suddenly yanked open.
Your movements ceased once you locked eyes with a frowning Aaron Hotchner.
"Hey—"
"Are you insane?"
You looked at him dumbfoundedly.
"Do you have a death wish? Is that it? Or are you just stupid?"
A few feet behind him, you could see Derek and Emily exchanging silent looks between the two of them. Everyone knew that Aaron was notorious for being frigid, and he had a strong impartiality when it came to any of his team members doing something impetuous on the field, but the words seeping out of Aaron's mouth at that moment sounded overtly harsh to those who knew him.
"Hotch—" Derek took a step forward, trying to come to your defense, "—it's not (Y/N)'s fault."
"I'm not talking to you." Aaron's response was cutting and final. It baffled Derek enough for him to trace his step back.
"What's wrong with you?" you asked once the shock dissipated, returning your voice to its rightful owner once more. "Why are you being like this?"
"Me? You're asking me? I should be the one asking you."
Your eyebrows pulled together in confusion. "We were chasing the UnSub—"
"You went rogue," he cut you off. "Morgan told me everything. There's no point in denying it."
Derek raised his arms in surrender when your stare of betrayal slid his way. "Fine. I'm sorry I grabbed a random civilian's bike and crashed it against the UnSub's car. You don't have to worry about paying anything back, I'll figure something out."
"Is that what you think this is about?" Aaron pinched the bridge of his nose. "I could care less about monetary compensations. We can deal with that later. You could've been killed, don't you understand?"
It was his last admission that finally made the pieces in your head click into place. Beneath the anger inside Aaron's words was actually a hidden anxiety ready to break free. He was worried about you, even if he was showing it in the least hospitable way possible.
Your relationship with Aaron was young; green around the edges and blooming every single day like tulips in spring. Nobody else in the world knew about it yet, and the two of you wanted to keep it that way. At least, that was what you agreed upon after having that lengthy discussion following your first official date.
And yet, none of that mattered when your fingers opted to reach out for Aaron's hand. You pretended not to notice the gasp that Emily let out as you urged your boyfriend to look into your eyes.
"I know you're worried, but I'm fine. I'm right here with you, and I'm okay." Aaron's shoulders physically collapsed at your reassurance. Every other noise in the hospital seemed to drown out in the aftermath. "The doctor's gonna clear me in no time, trust me."
"It still doesn't erase the fact that what you did was reckless." Aaron stepped closer towards the bed, overcrowding your senses as his thumb swept over your left eyebrow, just below the wound you had obtained from the crash. "Does it hurt?"
You shook your head no. The injury to your head was relatively minor. Your arm, on the other hand, was sustaining a quite sizable gash from your collision with the car.
Aaron's eyes followed your gaze that had meandered towards the gauze covering your arm. "How many stitches?"
Reluctantly, you answered, "Seven."
You heard his sharp breath before he turned around to face Derek. "Where's the UnSub now?"
Derek jerked his head to the right, where you reckoned the UnSub was being treated for their own injuries from the crash. The words of protest died in your throat as Aaron began to saunter to the other end of the ER with Derek hot on his heels.
With the two men's departure, Emily was the only one who remained.
"So—" she smiled knowingly, leaning against the foot of your bed, "—you and Hotch? When did that happen?"
You slammed your head back on the pillow, muffling your groan with your uninjured arm. "Shut up."

The Ocean is She(One-Shot)
Loki x Reader Avengers The Office AU (Slowwwwww Burn)
Warnings: Loki's POV summary till the Season 4 Midseason Finale.
Word Count: I just sort of poured out whatever I felt for this dude. Which all shades of sad mostly.
MASTERLIST in bio, darlings. Tags are open (check bio)
"This is Y/N. She is here to complete her college degree. She will be living here for now." That was the first time Loki saw you.  You stood out like a lost firefly in that lounge among the crowd of broken people on Hero Syndrome. While everyone was giving him the stink eye, you passed a flat smile towards his direction before being pulled by the others into questioning. What is someone like her doing here? Loki was meant to have it as a passing thought. But that passing thought slowly percolated into his life in the form he never really thought he would meet again- a friend. "It's okay, I'll have another one." You smiled at him when he took your cup of green tea your first morning there. And Loki would never admit to his ego that the first act of unadulterated kindness had made his heart sink a little into an unnamed ocean before covering it up with 'this woman must have an ulterior motive'. Ulterior motive. Loki was 'on guard' since then, trying to figure you out. You knocking on his door to join the others for a movie night, making him those heavenly molten chocolate lava cakes on his birthday, buying rings and bracelets that reminded you of him, falling asleep in his presence in the library, asking him to help you study for your exams, sending him pictures of cats on the campus, sharing latest memes with him to keep him up to date; everything you did was seen as motive of some bigger game for the God who had once fallen and twice died. But seemingly, he killed a part himself the day he told you about your origins and you did not blame him for a single second. And nothing was the same for God afterwards.
He started paying more attention to you. His initial reason was that unlike the clowns infesting the building always high on either adrenaline or coffee, you were a specimen that he could study. Right. He was studying how you had a habit of cracking your neck every hour no matter what you did. How you would interact with inanimate objects with emotions, like looking at your assignment on the laptop and asking it with tears in your eyes, 'Why won't you conclude yourself in a way that's not gibberish?!'; or how you would gently pat the car and say thank you whenever you arrived at your destination. How your eyes would light up every time you saw a little spawn of the dogs or cats and your voice would go higher to greet them. He was amused by how your calm persona would do a one-eighty when your menstruation cycle was on the verge of bleeding days. That was the exciting part of his day during the cycle- sitting close to your sweatshirt and shorts-clad figure sprawled on the sofa in front of the TV, watching you threaten anyone who passed the hall. That's all you were to him- an amusing human who helped him pass his days on earth. At least that is what he had convinced himself of, never realising how his day would start by coming out of his room looking for you. How he would take a tour of the entire Avengers facility to find you and when he did, he would play himself off non-chalantly. He did not seem to let himself know how he would automatically come to stand by your side whenever he was to leave the facility and go out into the world.
The narrator's heart often wonders how he could not see himself getting attached to you. Like that one time, he was the only one up beside Scott and Tony when you were out partying with your college friends; how he pretended to be drowned in a philosophy book while Tony worked on his robot babies and Scott watched the Kaichowa Maid Sama anime; how he intently listened to the phone call Scott got and he immediately recognised your voice even though he sat a bit far; how he heard your slurred words say 'Scottieeeeeee~ please take me home. I am drunkkkk and I kindaaaa don't want to stay heeeere'. "Of course, honey," Scott replied, "but it'll take me an hour to reach-" "Then send someone who'll be faaaaaasterrrrr~" you whined on the line.  Scott looked in the direction of the elevator, wondering whether to call Stark from his workshop when Loki slammed his book shut. "Turn on the sink tap," Loki commanded a confused Scott as he vanished with green and golden hues only to land on the campus grounds in a poorly lit park where you were sitting in the cold grass, your phone still to your ears. "Scott," you whispered into the phone, "you don't understand. I am drunk and I am feeling these waves of horny-ness but I do not want to do it with anyone here!!!" "Let's go home," Loki announced as he stood in front of you, waiting for you to take his hand. And boy did he feel his heart do another dip in that unknown ocean when you smiled at the God with a shade of relief and hugged him the moment you were up on your legs. "Thank you for coming for me." The wave of feeling his heart about to take another dunk into that ocean, he immediately teleported back with you, making sure both you and he landed right next to the sink to help you puke your wobbling guts right into the sink.
As time passed, Loki grew more used to your presence. From sitting together at breakfast and sharing one cup of tea to having reading sessions in his room on his bed. You were one of the rare ones who were allowed to enter his sacred space. No one knew but he thoroughly enjoyed the waves of emotions that would run over your features at different times when you became too engrossed in a manga. Sometimes it was your uncontrollable laughter where you read the same pages again and again; other times it was the repeated punches you threw either on your thigh or on the bed when you found yourself being impressed by something. But then there were the times when you would be in tears when one of your favourite characters died, and you could not stop yourself and Loki would look at you, with the intensity of the moon, wanting to stop time and do something...anything to stop you from crying.
He did get tested for his belief of looking at you as a specimen. That one time when you and Hope fell into the other end of the universe. This God was ready to draw blood if it meant bringing you back in one piece. Once you were home safe, he could not help but overthink as to why did what he did for you. You were a mere human.  You were not supposed to mean much to him. You were just his amusement. Right? Just his amusement. The very amusement who stood in a barren alien land in front of the most delirious alien army, making Loki calculate in one point two seven seconds how he was about to lose his sleep for the next three months if he was to keep you alive while trying to find a way back home. Home.  Earth isn't my home, he would mentally slap himself back to reality whenever he caught himself thinking of the Avengers facility and the other clowns. But then he would turn to look at you.  Earth was your home. And going home would make you happy. He wanted to see you happy. Another mental slap to his head. You are losing your edge, Loki, he would bully himself to keep himself cold and calculating throughout that demanding journey of looking after you and the monster you had adopted on your way. And of course, Javi.
Any other day, any other life, any other universe, Loki would have punched the numbers as to how useful you were to him dead or alive and then be his way once you fulfilled your purpose of helping him survive. But here, he was doing the basing math of making sure to get you out of all the darkness of the universe unharmed. But life, as we know, has other plans. The music genre too changes when the playlist is on random and the heart is set on adventure for one and survival for another. Aellae came as the genre of dread and darkness. Being well aware of her obsession and abuse of power, Loki knew she would see you as a threat; for she knew the God of Mischief never travelled in a pack unless that pack had Loki's prey or something Loki wanted to keep close. So his first thought was to call in the seven Gods while 'ditching' you in the middle of a desert. Little did he know that you too were thinking from your heart in that space and time. As much as he hated to see you come for his rescue, he would never give up on the time when you two were stuck in that small space in Aellae's dungeons, trying to find a way through the room, bodies covered in sweat, your back and his front finding the angles to become one as you both pushed your way out. How synchronous were your bodies working together, how you readily trusted him with touching you in a way he would never want to witness you being touched by anyone. Why was he thinking that way? All those questions, all those confusions, all those hours of his inside voices bullying him to see you as nothing but a human ticket to a life of peace back on earth- all of them burst with the brittleness of the snow that fell on you as your lifeless figure lay in his arms. This time when his heart sank into the ocean, it did not want to come up. The God could not sense anything but fear crawling on his skin when his hand touched your face and it did not feel warm anymore. Your usually cheerful eyes did not open when he called out your name again and again. The fear he had felt when he first found himself dying when he wanted to live, was nothing in that moment when he was faced with the reality that you might be dead. And just as that little speck of possibility crossed his mind, the hell inside him broke loose, causing a wave originating from his magic destroying everything within a radius of two kilometers. Ever since he was born, Loki, son of Laufey, son of Odin, Prince of Asgard, the Silvertongue, took to his knees for the first time for a life that was not his. He begged for your survival at the cost of his own, no longer denying himself from the truth. His heart did not come up from that ocean that carried your name on every atom in its waves. You were his reason to laugh. You were his reason to be curious in this life. You were his reason to look forward to getting up the next morning.  You had been the reason he had not gone for Plan B of running away from Earth and ending in the bosom of some dying star that would end his misery.  You were the reason he was willing to live a little longer. You were the reason he was ready to love again.
Even when back from the horrors of the universe, Loki did not stop looking after you. He let Peter in on the secret of your near-death experience because he trusted that boy and he knew how much he cared for you. Both he and the boy would discreetly look for signs of you experiencing any discomfort. Taking shifts in the night, they would help you get out of your nightmares- which were the after-effects of healing you back to life right from the arms of death herself. Loki grew more protective of you but would distance himself whenever found himself feeling whatever little ounces of happiness his heart felt in your company. He would walk the extra mile of punching a man in his face for disrespecting you but he found himself pretending to laugh at your heartfelt confession because his heart could not bear the truth of knowing that you loved him back. You loved him. You, the perfection that walked amongst mere peasants. Loved. Him. And he laughed. He laughed hard enough to hide his tears of happiness that hurt him to the point of no return. He could not let you do that. You were too precious. Too precious to be put in danger again. He was the danger. He brought death to you. He would rather die than do that to you ever again.  And so the God decided to walk away, let out his screams in the middle of the desert to kill his heart for finding love in this lifetime and then hating the fact that it loved him back. The God was no better than a human then. He was in love. But he could hold on to that love for the fear of breaking it with his ill fate.

Day 24: Fish
“He’s too good to be true,” Meg declares.
Balthazar frowns but doesn’t argue with her. He turns to Castiel instead. “Darling, she might have a point, as much as it pains me to say.”
Meg slurps obnoxiously at her latte. “Because you don’t want me to be right, or you don’t want Clarence to get his heart broken by a catfish?”
Balthazar raises his eyebrows. “And is there any reason on Earth it can’t be both?”
Castiel frowns down at his phone screen, still showing Dean’s profile picture – a shot of a big black car at sunset.
Meg snaps her fingers to get his attention. “Like I said, he’s a catfish.”
“And not a very adept one at that,” Balthazar sniffs as he snatches the phone out of Castiel’s hand to peer critically at the screen. “He should at least have used a real photo – of someone else, but still, a real photo.”
“This is a real photo of his car,” Castiel says, but his argument is met with twin looks of pity. “Just like his username, Impala67.”
“Come on, Clarence,” Meg says as she deftly plucks the phone out of Balthazar’s grip, scrolling down to read, “6’1, green eyes… favorite food: a good cheeseburger… favorite activity: playing the floor is lava with my niece?”
“It’s like he was tailor made for you,” Balthazar says. He takes a sip of his espresso. “Keep your social security number and credit information close to your chest.”
“He’s not going to – going to steal my identity,” Castiel splutters.
“You never know with a catfish,” Balthazar says sagely.
Castiel yanks his phone out of Meg’s hand and pockets it. “You don’t know him. And, yes, superficially, he has many qualities I admire in a man. But we disagree on things too!”
“Like how much money he needs to get into the country?” Balthazar says snidely.
“Like the importance of family in one’s life.”
“Oh, Clarence,” Meg says, her sneer dropping in the blink of an eye.
Castiel’s mouth twists. “He’s very close with his brother and idolized his father before he died. Every year on the anniversary, he takes a long weekend and drives to his hometown to visit the grave.”
“He’s not telling you to get back in touch with yours, is he?” Balthazar asks, alarmed.
“It could be Naomi,” Meg agrees before Castiel can respond. “It wouldn’t be the first time she messed with your head.”
Castiel glares daggers at the pair of them, his temper mounting. They don’t understand. The bond that he has with Dean is real, it’s profound.
“For the last time, I’m not being catfished, especially by Naomi of all people,” Castiel hisses. He gets up from the table. “You both encouraged me to start dating again after –” he breaks off. “Anyway, I don’t understand why you’re being so negative after pushing me into this.”
“We’re not being negative,” Meg says in a horribly patient voice. “We’re being realistic. Is this Dean the first person you connected with on the app?”
“Yes,” Castiel says curtly. “So what?”
“You have a tendency to leap without looking.” Balthazar grabs his coat to leave with him.
Castiel’s jaw clenches. There goes his attempt to dramatically storm from the coffee shop.
“I just don’t want you to get swept up in something magical,” Balthazar continues, “when there’s really a troll underneath all the fairy dust.”
“Ask him for a photo,” Meg says as she gets to her feet too because Castiel can’t have good things.
“Excuse me?”
“Preferably with today’s newspaper,” she adds.
Castiel grimaces. “I’m not asking him for that.”
“Fine, forget the paper. Just ask for a selfie.”
Castiel levels both of them with serious looks. “And you’ll drop it after this?”
“Of course, darling,” Balthazar promises.
“Cross my heart.”
Balthazar narrows his eyes at her. “I thought you tore it out ages ago for a ritual sacrifice.”
“It’s a figure of speech, Limey Boy.”
Sighing, Castiel pulls out his phone as Balthazar holds the door open for both him and Meg.
Castiel 1:04 My friends think you’re a catfish. Can you please send a photo of yourself?
As Balthazar reads over his shoulder, Meg slaps her palm to her forehead. “Unbelievable,” she mutters.
“What?”
“You’re not supposed to tell him that,” Meg says, rolling her eyes.
“Bad form, Cassie,” Balthazar tuts.
“I want to be honest with him,” Castiel says stubbornly as they all stop at the next crosswalk.
“Even if he isn’t being honest with you?” Balthazar says, eyebrows raised.
“Of course,” Castiel says, defensive. "I cannot control his actions, only my own."
Dean 1:07 Seriously?
"Not promising," Balthazar tsks.
Castiel glares.
"Oh, hold on," Meg says. "He's sending something."
They all stare at the loading picture.
Meg taps the chat, and the photo maximizes, filling the whole screen. She whistles.
Balthazar blinks. "Bold of him."
"But he's very good looking," Castiel says, confused.
"Very good looking for a catfish," Balthazar agrees.
"No –"
"Don't you recognize him?" Meg taps his face, "That's Channel 4's local weatherman."
A moment of silence as Meg's words sink in.
"I'm so sorry, Cassie," Balthazar says.
His heart sinking with a terrible mixture of embarrassment and misery, Castiel stashes his phone away without looking at either of them. "It's fine.”
* * *
The next evening, he's moping in his apartment after a disappointing dinner of leftover Chinese takeout. Dean hasn’t stopped messaging him, even though Castiel hasn’t responded for over 24 hours.
Dean 6:11 Gotta say this is the first time I've been ghosted *after* I shared a pic
Castiel almost throws his phone across the room. Instead, he lobs it across the couch and ignores the buzz of yet more incoming texts.
He turns on the television instead, and because Castiel and good luck have never seen eye-to-eye, the evening weather report is airing.
“Alright, so you can see here,” the real Dean says, gesturing to the green screen behind him, showing a map of the metropolitan area and surrounding suburbs, “temperatures tomorrow are nearly going to hit the triple digits, so stay inside where there’s AC or hit up the closest person you know with AC, whether that’s your old man, your roommate’s best friend, or your friendly neighborhood Spiderman.”
Castiel studies the real Dean carefully. He’s just as handsome as the photo his catfish sent, more so in his element, performing for his audience.
Dean shoots a warning glare at the camera. “We’re well into heatstroke territory here, so don’t mess around and try to tough it out. You’ll just sweat your balls off and end up in the ER.”
The green screen behind him smoothly transitions to the seven-day forecast.
”While I’m on the subject, I promised my little brother and my niece that I’d mention these are also dangerous temps for dogs in locked cars, so bring Lassie into Publix. The worst she’ll do is poop in the snack aisle. But better to have a bad dog than a dead one.” He laughs at his own morbid joke.
Dean gestures to the boxes with Saturday and Sunday’s weather. “But we’ll get some reprieve over the weekend with a Category 1 hurricane. For those wondering, yes, this is the same one I’ve been warning you about for a whole week and a half, and, no, I won’t shut up about it tomorrow either.”
The green screen ripples into a radar map of the area, highlighting the potential path of the hurricane.
“So, while you’re taking refuge from the heatstroke in the grocery store, it can’t hurt to stock up on water and batteries while you’re there. Plus, some scooby snacks for our four-legged friends who might get freaked by the storm.”
Castiel makes a mental note to visit the grocery store to buy a few cans of soup.
“Me, personally,” Dean continues, “I was gonna ride out the hurricane with my little brother and my niece, but now I think I’m gonna spend it trying to convince someone I’m not a damn catfish.”
Castiel chokes on his own spit.
“But,” Dean continues over Castiel’s noisy hacks of shock, “speaking of fish, people in the danger zone in Lakeview, you are not fish, and you cannot live in water. Evacuate before Friday!” He grins. “Back to you, Jo, since there’s only so many signs of the end of times I wanna cover during the weather forecast.”
The blonde news anchor, Jo, drawls an exasperated, “Thanks as always, Dean. Now, we’re –”
Castiel turns off the television. He scrambles for his phone wedged between couch cushions. The lock screen lights up with a barrage of notifications, all from Dean.
Dean 6:11 Do you really think I’m catfishing you? You’re fucking ridiculous I’m honestly surprised you know what a catfish is
Dean 6:12 Seriously, how do you know what a catfish is but not Indiana Jones???
Dean 6:15 I gotta go on air in a second But watch the goddamn report
Castiel can’t navigate to the messaging section of the app fast enough.
Castiel 6:31 I watched it
To his relief, Dean responds within minutes.
Dean 6:33 Good.
Castiel 6:33 I’m sorry. My friends convinced me you were too good to be true.
Dean 6:34 See you say sappy shit like that And it makes it very hard to stay mad at you
Castiel 6:34 My apologies?
Dean 6:34 You wanna grab dinner in an hour? You must live closer than I thought if you recognized my face
That weekend, Castiel totes his overnight bag to Dean’s place. As the pressure drops outside, he plays the floor is lava with Dean and Danielle while Sam gripes about securing the windows by himself.

Peaks and Greens: Pico Island
Tumblr media
After three years without any two-week, multi-stop #CarubinTrips, we’re back with snaps of views, food, and musings from Portugal! To celebrate our nuptials and make up for lost travel time, we landed on a four-stop honeymoon extravaganza based on our priorities of rolling green hills, ocean views, a variety of wine, seafood, and egg custard pastries. Our first stop: Pico Island!
Tumblr media
To kick off our trip, we flew from New York to São Miguel Island, which only took about five hours. From there, we flew straight to Pico Island. Unintentionally, we ordered the trip starting with the least populated place (Pico) and gradually made our way back to being around too many people (São Miguel →  Porto → Lisbon). We started in Pico solely because those were the only dates available for a hidden gem of an Airbnb recommended by a colleague. This place was very worth shuffling our itinerary around.
Tumblr media
Those views! The house was on the highest point in São Roque, in the central north side of the island, which was incredible. We rented a car—pretty much a must-do in the Azores. And after a long time Googling at the Pico airport discovered that you do not need an international driver’s license in Portugal! It took us a bit to find the house, gather our bearings, and figure out where the grocery stores were. Luckily, our host stocked the kitchen for us, which was a huge lifesaver, and the island was so small and fairly easy to navigate.
After staying in to cook on night one, we ventured out on our own on day two. The tour we booked ended up getting canceled, so we set out to visit some of the stops that would have been included. The first stop was Gruta das Torres, a lava cave located in Madalena, which was on the west side of the island. Driving there was a bit rough and bumpy. The roads around the house were unpaved, and we stumbled upon wild cows while trying to get to the main road. Crazy!
Tumblr media
It was so scenic along the way, so we had to stop to take photos. It helped that there were barely any other cars, so it really felt like we were in our own dreamland.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gorg! Unfortunately, when we got to Gruta das Torres, there were no tours available. That was a bummer, but we had plenty more to see. Vinha de Criação Velha was close by, so we headed there. The vineyard is a UNESCO World Heritage Site made up black basalt stone walls (we learned so much about basalt in the Azores). It was really cool, and we got some good views of Mt. Pico from there.
Tumblr media
By the time we finished exploring the vineyard, we were ready for lunch. The first two locations we looked up were hosting parties, so we wound up at Cella Bar, which was pretty good and had more great views. We took advantage of their wine selection and tried a 2011 czar wine—fancy! We shared a cheese appetizer starring three Pico cheeses. I got the squid salad, and Roobz got sausage.
Tumblr media
Delish! Afterward, we checked out one of the natural pools by our Airbnb, Piscina Naturais São Roque. It was very rocky and fishy, so we didn’t fully submerge but enjoyed the scenery and sun (and we could see the Airbnb in the far distance!).
Tumblr media
For dinner we went to Casa Ancora and were met with a line full of tourists waiting for the restaurant to open. Classic. The food was pretty good—not bad but not amaaazing. The popularity probably stems from the modern vibe both food-wise and within the restaurant. We shared the “low-temperature” (cold?) shrimps. Really good! I had the barracuda, and Roobz got the filet mignon, which included a delicious potato puree. We also shared a bottle of local rosé!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On day three, we headed to Lagoa do Capitão and thought it was just a lake we could relax at and have a snack. We were wrong...in a good way! There was a lake that was pretty meh, but it was surrounded by the most beautifully sprawling green hills I’ve ever seen in my life! With cows grazing nearby and into the distance. And, of course, a view of Mt. Pico! LOVELY. A highlight of my life!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For lunch, we went to Aço, a snack bar with authentic food. We sat outside in the back patio, which was cute. In touristy fashion, we accidentally ordered two bottles of wine instead of two glasses—whoops! But finally got to try green wine and loved it. Not too sweet and not too dry. We shared garlic shrimp, and I got a creamy seafood and mushroom dish. Roobz got the local beef with shrimp. The squid was good.
Tumblr media
After lunch, we went to Lajes on a whim so we could say we saw the three big towns on the island. Very cute and picturesque! We checked out the natural pool there to dip our legs and lie out in the sun before getting some light bites and heading back to the house.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On our last full day in Pico, we wanted to try some pastries—you gotta in Portugal. We went to Pastelaria Machedo, and our overeager selves ordered three huge pastries. After the cashier told us the price, and we realized we didn’t have enough cash, Roobz went to find an ATM. Could we have gotten only two pastries. Sure. But then who would we really be in life? It was worth it because they were GOOD. (Pro tip: get some cash early on if you are staying in São Roque because there weren’t any ATMs in that town!).
Tumblr media
After getting our sweets on, we headed to Museo do Vinho da Ilha do Pico for some history! It was only 4 euros and very cool to see the old wine presses and learn about the history of winemaking in Pico. We saw even more cool views and very cool flora. Cool all around!
Tumblr media
By the time we returned to the Airbnb, it was raining, and we had to deal with wet laundry, so we stayed in and enjoyed the rain and clouds, which produced a beautiful rainbow we saw at eye level!
Tumblr media
Pico was dreamy, isolated in the best way, and a lovely way to kick off our honeymoon. It was probably my favorite out of all the places, and they were all great, so that’s saying something. Next stop: São Miguel Island!

ME:Show her Yvette!!! Vuzass will soon no longer bother you and your Byronic wife(MC).
Yvette:We kill it by killing her.
MC:(Vinca whoooops but Lazareth is not convinced)
Lazareth:We aren't sure. Maybe a research first?
ME:Agree! Yvette please don't rush! By going in the final battle unprepared is bad any basic RPG will tell you this.

Vinca:You hear that demon witch?! My girl's coming for ya!
ME:Vinca being a useless lesbian again and she's so cute for it!
MC:(Trudy try to imitate Vinca and Lazareth have to grab her since she's nearly falls out of the car.)
Trudy:Aww, no fun.
ME:😅 Trudy Daddy Lazareth just saved your cute little ass,its good you're cute and funny.💐 And our Byronic heroic wives hold their hand and....
Yvette:Are ready with me MC?
.....and they claps their hands.
MC:Forever and Always.
ME:So MC change her normal clothes with her combat one.
MC:(Gotta be prepared! We're at a fancy lobby, fancy enough to be a fancy's person living's room. Here Yvette said its located Vuzass.
R.I.P to anyone who stand in the Yvette's way:plant, furniture, misc. Items etc...!).
Honestly I didn't expect to be this to be Vuzas lair.(Since its look more a like a storytime with brandy, not to watch Yvette battle to the death)
Trudy:True, warehouse chic not fitting set for Greed.
ME:The fitting set is a colloseum!
MC:(Vuzass casually stroll up here and everyone tenses)
Vuzgamad:So have you come to thank me for your gift? She wasn't nearly identical to what's her name was again?
Yvette:Shut up,don't you dare to say her name!
Vuzgamad:We never forgot our first love isn't ?
ME:Shut up Vuzass or I'll make you !!!
MC:Ignore Yvette! She has only the snark left and she can shove it in her ass.(Vuzass laugh at me,Yvette take advantange of the distraction to attack her but Vuzass dodge the attack, now she's at disadvantage so we're ready to jump to the fray. But Yvette holds her palm us to stay us.)
Yvette:No. This is my fight to win.
MC:(Vuzass unfazed crackled a terrify laugh)
Vuzgamad:There's the Yvette I raised up!
Tumblr media
ME:And Yvette belong to MC and MC to Yvette,Vuzass! How. Many. Time. I. Have. To. Say. It. Vuzass!?!
Vuzgamad:Oh,who give you the control about the fire power/curse? All those year carefully shut me out? Or swallow the emotion so down that they're going to ignite?
Yvette:I did all this DESPITE YOU!
Vuzgamad:Because of me! I could take you for my purpose anytime, did you think you could hide from me? Everything you did was under my guidance,I follow you in the shadow. You were a weapon to be forged and today you're the little deadly thing.
Yvette:You're all empty talk! I no longer listen you!!!
Vuzgamad:Oh,like you learn to shut your heart and trust no one if your child psychologist didn't insisted that you lived in a fairy tail world? If I didn't mess up your life, you wouldn't get all your street smart knowledge? Would sent the demon with you made a deal in the fruitless search of me?
MC:(I'm so done with Vuzass insanity and I'm ready to slice and dice her,From Vinca's expression and knives twitched in her hands we share the same feelings)
Vuzgamad:The need wealth and fame? This all consuming greediness comes from? CONGRATULATION!!! You surpassed me,the volcano great idea but your creation is impressive, an all-consuming being.
ME:Like I've teorized somehow Yvette created the NOT-demon....wait? what? how?
MC:(The creature in the backalley....not Vuzass doing!?!)
Tumblr media
ME:Not this time Yvette, as much I wished it.
Vuzgamad:I told you, you surpassed me and create the NOT-demon.
ME:At Yvette and mine dumbfounded expression Vuzass crack a laugh.....
Vuzgamad:You really thinked that you could emptyed without give your greediness a "physical manifestation"?
MC:(The NOT-demon is the price to empty the soul stuff!!!)
ME:THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!! When Yvette+MC=4ever will be happy for more than 5 minutes!?!
Yvette:Its not true!
Vuzgamad:But is it whanever you like it or not,the NOT-demon is both scary and awesome.I have no lesson for you left, now its time to baptizing this world with flames...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ME:I'm afraid that Vuzass death is a phyric victory since the NOT-demon is the TRUE FINAL BOSS!!! In meantime Vuzass GET. OVER. HER.!!!
Tumblr media
So you can leave them happy for more than 5 minutes!!!

Bakugou x Fem!Reader Word Count: 7330 Flower Shop AU, No Quirks, Heist?
Part of a BNHArem collab, check out the others here! For this collab I was challenged to do a One Night Only, Flower Shop AU with the line “If you leave now, you get nothing”
Tumblr media
You’re forced into the opportunity of a lifetime
Tumblr media
The bells above the door chime. A gentle breeze wafts across the leaves of flowers lining the wall. Turning, you spy a tall, ash blond man removing his sunglasses. Crimson eyes rove around, taking in the ready-made bouquets in showcase fridges and dried flowers hanging from the wall before settling on you.
They soften from hard garnet gems to pools of lava you could lose yourself in. A cocky smile graces his face as he approaches the counter where you put the finishing touches on a dozen roses.
“Bakugou,” you smile at him, “I haven’t seen you in a while!”
“I’ve been busy,” he says and peers at the note you attach to the roses. I hate fighting and wanted to say sorry for what happened. I love you to the moon and back. He arches an eyebrow at you and scoffs at whatever fool thinks a bunch of roses will make things better.
“Don’t get me started on it,” you roll your eyes, “But you, are you too busy to stop by and say hi?” Bakugou’s brow twitches slightly.
“I need another bouquet of gardenias sent to this address today,” he says, completely ignoring your chastisement. He scribbles down an address on a scrap of paper and slides it across the counter.
“Sure thing,” you peer at the address. It’s across town. A slight pain in the ass, but for your favorite customer? Not a problem. “Any message with it?”
“Congrats,” he says, “No name attached to it.”
“Your girlfriend is lucky…” you hum and check your computer to make sure you have everything in stock. When he doesn’t respond, you raise an eyebrow. “Your boyfriend is lucky?”
“It’s just a friend. You know I’m not dating anyone,” he points out, “Do you guys deliver single flowers? Like a single rose and that shit?”
“Not normally, but you’re one of my best customers,” you reply. It’s true. The man sends more flowers than most people will in their entire lives. Some people visit coffee shops daily and are labeled regulars. Bakugou visits weekly, sometimes ordering up to five bouquets at a time. “If you give me the addresses, I can personally deliver them after hours.”
“I need gladioli delivered to these addresses. Knock and leave it at the door. Don’t bother waiting for anyone to answer.” Pulling another scrap of paper out of his pocket, he jots down three more addresses. The pencil hesitates above the paper for a second before he hastily adds one more. “And an amaryllis to your place for your trouble.”
It’s the combination of smolder and wink that has you biting your lip, and your knees turning to jelly like a damn high schooler who’s head over heels for someone.
“So the usual delivery method,” you smile wryly. “All today as well?”
“Of course.” Bakugou pulls out his wallet and plunks the card down on the counter with a satisfying snap. It’s not a clatter of plastic, no, this is a crisp crack of metal, and it’s a well-practiced move.
“I’ll have these all delivered by 8pm,” you say and type in the card number from memory.
“Perfect,” he purrs.
“I have a lunch break coming up if you have some free time?” you ask hopefully, the ‘gone to lunch’ window card already in your hand.
“I know a place around the corner,” Bakugou says and waits for you to close up shop.
As always, lunch is too short, and you find yourself dragging your feet on getting back to the shop. Days Bakugou comes in are always livelier and you never want them to end, but of course, he goes his way, and you go yours.
Setting aside the flowers Bakugou requested, you pack up your car and wait for your co-owner to show up so you can make the deliveries. Logically, if one were to deliver packages, it would make sense to plan a route with the least amount of driving. But your method is slightly different. You always go based on how needed you think the flowers are; a ‘happy birthday’ bundle for family? Right away. A customer’s third, dozen roses with a card apologizing for being an asshole? Not so much. And requests for Bakugou? Always saved for last. Sometimes you hope that you’ll be delivering to the man himself, or get a chance to see a girlfriend – not that you’re jealous.
Deliveries go smoothly; a congratulations on graduating bouquet from grandparents who are too old to travel and live too far away, a gift for a mother from her son, some ‘just because’ flowers to an unsuspecting partner, and the apology roses. Bakugou’s order sits in a box in the passenger seat of your beat-up car. The bouquet of white gardenias with greenery surrounding it looks more like wedding flowers for a bride, and the towering apartment complex you arrive at in the heart of downtown has your jaw drop.
The doorman in the marble lobby thoroughly inspects the arrangement before dismissing you. Who could possibly live in such a grand building? A client? Family? He probably didn’t know when he ordered them, but gardenias are a sign of secret love. But they’re also beautiful flowers.
The gladioli go to much more mundane places; an apartment above a bakery, a gym where a trainer took it claiming to know who it was for, and a house on the edge of where suburbs meets city. The last address takes you out towards the water.
Gravel crunches under the tires of your car as you pull up to a giant metal building. You sit in the driver’s seat and stare at the warehouse. There’s no office to approach, no name on the building, and no workers milling about who can give you directions. In fact, there doesn’t seem to be anyone here. Checking the address again, you frown and get out. There are mechanical noises inside, so clearly there is someone here.
Remind me to check the addresses before agreeing to deliver anything.
The rusted, corrugated metal warehouse is tall enough to fit a ship. Maybe at one point that’s what it was used for, but boarded up windows make it clear that if there was ever any new construction happening, it was a long time ago. Going to the only human sized door there is, you heave it open slightly and peek inside.
This… doesn’t look like your normal crowd of people you deliver flowers to; instead of mothers, partners, brand new babies, and grandparents, you can make out men playing cards at a cheap folding table and other individuals hammering crates closed through a haze of cigarette smoke.
Maybe he wrote down the address wrong. You slowly close the door and pray to all the deities in the universe that none of them hear the door click shut. Maybe there’s another place around here he meant to have the flower delivered to. Aware of all the gravel shifting under your feet, you try, and fail, to back up without a sound. Maybe-
“What are you doing here?” A hand wraps around your upper arm. Inside, you’re screaming, your fight or flight responses opting for ‘deer in headlights’. You whip around and yank your arm out of the hands of-
“Bakugou.” Even your whisper is too much noise. You should have trusted your instincts and left as soon as you saw where you were. “I’m delivering the flowers you wanted, what’s goi-”
“Quiet.” Bakugou whispers and presses a key fob into the palm of your hand. He spins you around and points to a sleek car with tinted windows parked on the other side of the street. “Black car. Wait in it. Do not let anyone see you.”
He watches you retreat to his car before entering the warehouse. Thirty minutes. Thirty minutes of waiting, hoping that he was okay. Thirty minutes of realizing that since he wasn’t running out with a horde of angry people behind him, he probably knew them – probably worked with them.
And it takes thirty seconds of him exiting the warehouse with a grim look on his face to realize that you’re in deep shit.
Bakugou turns the car on and sits there idling, his hands growing white against the steering wheel. His jaw clenches as he stares straight ahead. No one says anything. The agonizing silence stretches on as you both try to figure out how to break the silence.
“How much did you see?” he asks, putting it in drive and smoothly pulling away.
“What do you do for a living?” you counter cautiously. The Bakugou you have lunch and coffee with on a weekly basis doesn’t seem like the kind of man who would willingly go down to the docks for who knows, but… the lifestyle he lives… The amount of money he spends could be explained by… illicit activities.
“That’s not important.” His words make you want to laugh. Not important? The color of a car isn’t important. Being an importer of black-market goods? Important.
“But it is. Drugs? Guns? What was in those crates?” you press, “Who are you?” He doesn’t answer right away, choosing instead to pay attention to traffic.
“Just someone making their way in the world,” he says after a moment. Vague. What did you get yourself into?
“Take me back to the docks,” you say sourly and sit back in the leather seat. He makes no effort to turn the car around, instead driving further into the city. “Bakugou, I left my car there. Will it still be in one piece when I go back?”
“Promise me you will never go back there. I must have given you the wrong address,” he says. His eyes meet yours, but you make no promise, just as he doesn’t promise your car will still be in one piece. “I’ll get you a new one that isn’t a piece of shit to make up for it.”
He pulls up to an apartment complex. It’s bland – blends in with the neighborhood, looks just like the complex next door and across the street. The entirety of the quiet street seems to be beige buildings that all look the same
“Come on,” he parks.
“Where are we?” you peer around trying to recognize any of the buildings. Even though you drive around the city often, you don’t recognize where you are.
“My place,” he says and gets out. Walking around to your door, he opens it and waits for you to get out. “There’s some people you need to meet.” Quietly, you follow him, curiosity getting the better of you. Plus, if you were to run, you’re pretty sure he could catch you.
In front of a door numbered 23, Bakugou sticks a key in and unlocks it. If you weren’t perturbed about everything that happened in the last hour and a half, you might have enjoyed the warm, spicy scent of his cologne.
Spread throughout the apartment are three people. A dark-haired man in the kitchen puts the finishing touches on a feast spread across the counters, a red-haired man you recognize from the gym earlier in the day sits on a couch, and a woman with auburn hair leafs through the pages of a book. On the coffee table in the middle of the living room are all the gladioli you delivered earlier in the day. They all look up when you enter, their warm familiarity turning to closed off scowls when they spot you. Bakugou closes the door and locks it before they speak.
“What’s she doing here?” the redhead gym trainer asks. His garnet eyes narrow as he studies you like a dog wary of a stranger.
When you handed the flower to him earlier, he had been so cheerful and enthusiastic. Where was that man now?
“She runs the flower shop I use,” Bakugou says and removes his shoes. You follow suit and bite your tongue to try and blend in.
“That doesn’t answer my question,” the man asks. He crosses his arms, accentuating his prominent muscles. “What is she doing here?”
“She got caught up in everything,” Bakugou mutters and flops into a chair.
The woman returns the book in her hand to a shelf and walks over, also sizing you up. You have a fleeting thought to make a sudden movement just to make her and the redhead jump, but you’re not that stupid.
“We can’t let her go!” the woman hisses. Chestnut eyes stare coldly at you. “She’ll ruin everything.”
“Do I need to take care of this?” the redhead asks and stands. He towered over you at the gym and you didn’t think much of it, but now his height and musculature make standing near Bakugou the best option to not get hurt.
“We’ll use her,” Bakugou says and waves the man off. You turn your head so fast there’s a possibility of whiplash. Use me?
“That doesn’t promise her silence,” the man in the kitchen says. He wipes his hands in a towel before walking out to see what’s going on. He looks at you curiously and with none of the hostility the other two people have.
“If she has as much skin in the game as the rest of us, she won’t say a goddamn word,” Bakugou snarls.
“What can she do for us?” the woman sneers, “We have the brains, the brawn, the hacker. We don’t need anyone else. Especially her.”
“She’s our in,” Bakugou reclines in his seat and crosses his arms over his chest triumphantly. “She can get us into the event. Ever since Sato got let go from the place that’s doing the catering, she can do the floral arrangements.” The man from the kitchen looks down sheepishly.
“I didn’t know they would be downsizing so soon,” he, Sato, mutters.
Begrudgingly, all hostility towards you dissipates. You can see the gears turning in the rest of their minds. You rub your arm self-consciously and shift from foot to foot. You’ve been able to piece together a vague picture of what’s going on, but your spot in everything still eludes you.
Their ‘in’? The flower shop he uses? I can do the arrangements? What does this have to do with what happened at the warehouse? And are they all a part of it?
Questions bubble inside you. If you speak, it’ll draw more attention to yourself. What if you say the wrong thing though? What if somehow you manage to describe what you think is going to happen in detail and it’s correct? Would they think that you know too much for your own good and ‘take care of you’ regardless?
“They’re not going to use her out of the blue,” the woman says slowly.
“Let me handle it,” Bakugou says. He turns his attention to you, and for a moment when his fiery eyes meet yours, you forget about everything. It’s just the two of you, like always. “You’ll be compensated for your time.”
“I’m not giving her a portion of the haul,” the redhead says defiantly.
“I don’t need anything,” you say automatically. Your throat is dry to the point where your words come out scratchy. “I’ll do whatever you want, please don’t kill me.” Bakugou glowers at the redhead and stalks over to him, his lips turning into a sneer.
“Kirishima, you know better than anyone that no one does anything for free, because free means a favor, and I don’t do favors,” Bakugou punctuates each of the last words with a jab of a finger to Kirishima’s chest. You can feel the electricity in the air as the two men stare each other down. Reluctantly, Kirishima looks away, and Bakugou grins victoriously – even though it doesn’t reach his eyes.
“You’re in,” Bakugou says to you in a firm tone. “End of discussion.”
Brief introductions were made, along with ambiguously telling you the plan – and that was only when you started panicking that you would be in another warehouse with a crime lord and be forced to kill someone. Kirishima chuckled and unhelpfully told you that wouldn’t happen ‘this time’.
From what you can gather, Bakugou found everyone when they were down on their luck and he needed help. This job would involve a glamorous party and leaving richer than when you went in.
“Do I get a say in this?” you ask Bakugou as he drives you back to your place. With your car gone, you had no way to get to work easily – a fact you pointed out to him once the two of you were alone in his car. Until you did have a new set of wheels, Bakugou would pick you up and take you to work. Of course, you would have to come up with a lie of why you didn’t have a vehicle anymore to your coworker.
“No. It’s one night. You’ll make it,” Bakugou says grimly, “Don’t even think about running. If you leave now, you get nothing but a bullet.”
“Kirishima seems like the kind of person who would snap my neck with his bare hands,” you snort. He could probably flex his arm and it would all be over.
“I would have to be the one to do it, and I don’t want to,” Bakugou says stonily. Your mouth snaps shut. Silence descends while Bakugou weaves in and out of traffic. “You’re going to accept the order when it comes your way. Make the arrangements, and then we’ll deliver them as your employees. After that, you stick by me so I know you’re not running off to the cops.”
“Thanks for the vote of confidence,” you say dryly. So that’s how they’re going to use you. A convenient detail he left out when he was around the others.
“This isn’t our first time,” Bakugou turns fractionally to glare. The setting sun highlights strands of warm honey hidden within his red eyes. “I’ve carefully chosen my people for their skills and we work like a well-oiled machine. You landed in the middle of this. I will not have you messing up my plan. It’s one night. After that, you can go back to your boring life.”
Boring. Ouch. Part of your ‘boring’ life is the mundane; seeing the beauty in each flower you work with, seeing the smiles on customers’ faces when they answer the door. Bakugou is part of that too. Walking side by side down a sidewalk talking about anything and everything, getting into philosophical debates over lunch, discussing the validity of conspiracy theories over coffee. Those moments mean everything to you, and he sums it all up as ‘boring’.
“You don’t mean that,” you mumble, heat flooding your face. He said he used you and your flower shop – was any of it real? Were any of the single flowers he picked out and bought specifically for you to keep a ploy to get close to you? Were the times he waited outside your shop in the cold mornings before you even opened, two steaming drinks in hand, all meaningless?
His lips form a thin line and his jaw clenches. You sink back into your seat, resigned to the fate he’s brought upon you. You almost miss his words, attributing the whisper to the sounds of the passing cars. “No, but I have to convince myself of that.”
Tumblr media
Somehow, through pulled strings or threats and bribes, Bakugou does make the order appear. Twenty-one arrangements needed for Friday, to be made and delivered by you.
The cover story to your coworker is easy enough; they requested you specifically to make the floral arrangements, and they would have their employees unload everything. Your coworker was skeptical at first, but it was the largest order the shop had received, and neither of you could turn down the money.
You spend all your time drafting and crafting exquisite centerpieces. Pale purples and whites, roses and lilacs in tall vases, eucalyptus and ivy. The store is overrun with the project to the point that you have to reject regular orders unless it can be delivered the same day because there’s simply no space.
Friday comes before you know it. You’re a mess in your work apron, scurrying around the shop putting the finishing touches on everything. Two vans sit in the parking lot, and Bakugou, Sato, and Kirishima wait awkwardly against a wall.
“They look good,” Bakugou says, “Unlike you. Did you get any sleep last night?”
“Sorry,” you shoot him a dirty look and finish settling a tall white candle in a vase with a wreath of flowers at the base, “I was too busy trying to not get killed by the person who strongarmed me into this.”
“I like her,” Kirishima chuckles. You shove a box into his arms and continue flying around the shop like something is on fire and you’re the only one who can put it out.
“Good!” you say with mock cheerfulness, “Then put that in the van, and do not let it fall over and bruise!” Barking out more orders, you give each of the guys a job to do. “And where the hell is Ururaka?”
“She’s getting some things together,” Bakugou says and nudges your shoulder before following your orders, “We’re all the help you have right now.” You shoo him away and take a moment for yourself. He’s right. You look like shit. Dark circles mar your under eyes, and your clothes are disheveled. Is the shirt you’re wearing even clean?
“Everything’s packed up how you wanted it,” Sato calls from the entrance of the store. Attempting to make yourself presentable, you hustle out to the front of the store and lock up. Kirishima and Sato sit in one van, while Bakugou sits in the other.
“Go change,” Bakugou hands you a duffel bag. Kirishima and Sato start unloading the vans onto carts to bring into the… hotel? Apartment? Office? You’re not quite sure what building you’re looking at. “Ururaka put everything you’re going to need in here. I’ll meet you by the bathrooms when we’re done.”
“But,” you protest and stare at your creations being wheeled away. You put your heart and soul into them. If something were to happen now at the end of it all, it would be devastating – potentially career ending.
“We’ll take care of it,” Bakugou says gently, “Now go.”
With the bathroom all to yourself, you shut yourself in one of the stalls and open the bag. Inside you find a dress neatly folded on top of bags of new makeup supplies, all the hair products in the world, and even a bra and shoes – all in your size. On top of it all is a folded piece of paper with a message scrawled in pink handwriting.
Consider this to be insurance for your cooperation.
Unfolding it, you see a list of your search history for the past week. Scary. Fighting the warmth crawling up your neck and settling in your cheeks, you tuck it away and make a mental note to destroy it later.
Pulling the gown out, your eyes pop at the custom-made gown. The sweetheart neckline flows into off-the-shoulder sleeves. Black chiffon, loosely pleated at the bust, crisscrosses at the waist and meets at the zipper in the back. The floor length dress cascades down your body and gently flutters to your feet.
Ururaka, using all her brilliant hacking skills, nailed it with this gown. Somehow, through past online shopping sprees, she managed to order a dress that fits you like a glove.
Glancing at your phone, you see a message from Bakugou.
Bakugou: all set up. Done yet?
You work fast to make the rest of your appearance respectable enough for the party. In the past, you had stayed at functions to help with set up and clean up in respect to your floral arrangements, but never at something as extravagant as this. Giving yourself a once over, you pack everything up and walk out of the bathroom.
True to his word, Bakugou is waiting outside the hallway leading to the bathrooms. You stop a moment and marvel at his transformation. With his hair slicked back and a well-fitted, black suit with a black shirt that simultaneously shows off his muscles and hides them, all you can do is stare. He rolls his shoulders and turns, the scowl melting off his face when he sees you. You can feel his eyes roving up and down your body as you walk up to him.
“Well?” you ask and give him a 360 view of the dress after handing him the duffel bag, “Am I presentable enough for you?”
“Stunning.” He clears his throat and adjusts his garnet-colored tie, “Now stick close.” You can’t help but smile at the blush dusting his cheeks when he holds his arm out for you.
Taking the elevator to nearly the top floor, you gasp when you step out. Whoever owns the building had this floor and the one above it renovated to make essentially a grand ballroom. A large chandelier hangs from the ceiling and throws dazzling light around the room. Tulle backlit with fairy lights reach from the corners of the room up to the chandelier. Your floral arrangements are perfectly positioned on the tables.
“There’s balcony access from the second floor,” Bakugou murmurs and points to the night sky peeking through from the upper level.
“Bakugou! You have some gall showing your face around here tonight!” an older man laughs and slaps Bakugou on the back in greeting. You catch his face scrunching up for a quick second before adopting a neutral, almost jovial mask. Knowing Bakugou as well as you do, it looks… out of place like someone swapped faces with him and didn’t know any of his mannerisms.
“I wouldn’t miss this for the world,” Bakugou smiles and snags two flutes of champagne from a passing tray. He hands one to you and takes a sip from the other to cover his irritation.
“Your ex’s engagement party?” the man chortles. His cheeks are ruddy from drink, but the party has barely started and guests are still flowing in.
“Our parents are close,” Bakugou says smoothly, “I couldn’t say no, you know how the old hag is.” The man balks at Bakugou’s language but covers it up with a cough. Whoever Bakugou really is, he has enough power to say what he wants without repercussions – like call his mother a hag.
“Speaking of,” he looks around, “Where are you parents this evening? I would love to-”
“Sweetie,” you interject sweetly, sick of listening to forced pleasantries, “It’s so warm in here, do you think we could step out to the balcony?”
“Of course,” Bakugou says and offers you his arm. You both smile at the man who totters away and greets another pair of unsuspecting individuals who will most likely also be subjected to his lacking manners.
“You’re robbing your ex?” you hiss and tighten your grip on his arm. Bakugou waits until you’re at the top of the stairwell leading to the second floor before responding.
“The daughter of a Fortune Global 500 executive who almost got me thrown in jail for a crime her side lover committed while we were together mind you, and got my scholarship to Tohaku University revoked,” he growls, “All my internship opportunities dried up, and I lost everything I had.” You stare intently at each other as a group of people pass by. Laughter and clinking glasses fade away.
“How are you…” you fish for the correct word. How are you able to spend so much money? How are you able to waltz in here and no one bats an eye? Just who are you?
“How am I here?” he raises an eyebrow at you.
“Yeah.” Sure. Let’s go with that.
“I got the charges dropped, but my name was ruined,” Bakugou sighs and runs a hand over his hair. “I lived up to that ruined reputation to get my feet under me for years. Now I’m getting back everything that was stolen from me.”
“So you do… import things.” you clarify, “And what about your parents? Are they actually here? Do they know what you do? Are they in the same business as you?”
“My parents aren’t important,” Bakugou says and drops your arm. His gaze is focused elsewhere, but when you try to follow it, there’s nothing.
“I’m going to the bathroom,” he says, “Don’t move.”
“Don’t worry,” you call out sarcastically to his retreating form, “I’ll just wait here.”
He makes a beeline down the stairs and into the crowd. He can’t seriously expect you to wait here for him to come back. And that line about the bathroom? Utter bullshit.
Clinging to the shadows, you make your way to the balcony outside. A light breeze whips around you and causes the fabric of your dress to flutter. Buildings lit from the inside surround you. Tall apartment buildings filled with people settling in for the night, families spending time together as the sun sets. People on the ground look like ants, scurrying around in packs of two or more. Cranes, done hauling the bones of buildings around for the day, emit steady red lights. Stars fight in the onyx sky to shine, but they’re barely visible.
The magic of the moment breaks when voices from around the corner float to where you stand. Sighing, you quietly make your way to the door to give them their privacy. You almost make it too when a name catches your attention.
“Katsuki,” a woman’s voice says, “What are you doing here?”
Katsuki? As in Katsuki Bakugou? Your Bakugou? It’s not the most common name in the world, but what are the-
“I couldn’t stay away,” a deep voice says. A familiar voice. A voice that’s laughed over coffee with you. A voice that belongs to someone who called you stunning earlier this evening.
“You shouldn’t be here,” she whispers again. Her light and airy voice lulls you closer – a siren’s song bringing all who hear it to their deaths.
“What happened to us?” Bakugou’s murmur barely makes it around the corner where you hide. “We were in love, Momo.” You bite your lip to the point where you don’t know if you broke skin or not. Humiliating tears sting your eyes. You shouldn’t be here. This is a private moment. But you can’t leave either.
“I…” Momo’s musical voice trails off. You can practically envision it; Bakugou’s fingers gently running up and down her arms, his soft and sultry voice caressing her ears. Each person inching slightly closer to the other until-
“Give me another chance,” Bakugou says. You’ve only heard this gentleness a couple times before, and not recently. “I’ll make it worth your while.”
“Katsuki…” she sighs, “You know I can’t.” A stifled squeak has you peering around the corner to make sure she was alright.
All you get is a knife in the heart for your troubles.
A gorgeous woman in an emerald green mermaid gown that hugs her curves has her arms wrapped around Bakugou’s neck. His own hands are tangled in her long black hair, a light flush on her cheeks. Bakugou’s lips are curved against her own, a low moan escaping him. One of his hands untangles from her hair and starts working its way down her body, sliding along her waist before settling on the curve of her ass to pull her closer. As if their bodies could be any closer right now.
Slowly, you back away and try to get as physically far away from them as you can. Going inside would mean opening a door and spilling the noise of the party out into the nearly silent night, and one look at you would solidify that it was you who caught them. But if you stay, then-
“How long were you there?” a voice interrupts your internal monologue. You jump back guiltily to see Bakugou, and only Bakugou reaching out towards you.
“I-Long enough,” you sputter. The wind shifts, and the spicy scent of Bakugou
“What did you hear?” Bakugou demands. Hear? Everything. See? More than I bargained for.
“Does it really matter?” you mutter and step out of his reach. Wrapping your arms around yourself, you watch the city go to sleep. “How much longer until I can go?”
“It’s not what you think,” Bakugou says.
“Really?” you snap, “Because it sounded like you still want her.”
“Or,” he holds up a security card between his fingers, “I wanted the security card I knew she’d keep on her. You have nothing to be jealous about.”
“I’m not jealous,” you say a tad too defensively. Bakugou stows the card in his pocket. Crimson eyes take you in and a small smirk curls the corner of his lips.
“That’s too bad,” he shrugs and holds the door open for you. “Let’s go.”
Reluctantly, you follow him inside. The party is in full swing now with booze and congratulations for the bride-to-be in abundance. A swath of red hair bobs its way through the crowd. Bakugou doesn’t seem to notice as Kirishima makes a beeline towards them. A shimmer of plastic catches your eye, and you watch as the security card is passed off to Kirishima, in a dashing merlot red suit. Neither man blinks. Onlookers wouldn’t be able to tell that you were all together. Just two people passing by.
At the refreshment table, you watch Kirishima make his way over to the elevators. Sato is waiting there as well. Again, neither man acknowledges the other. Two party goers in a crowd of a hundred.
You still have no idea where Ururaka is, but if Bakugou is the brains, Kirishima and Sato are the brawn, then logically she must be the hacker.
“What do we do now?” you whisper behind your drink. Bakugou turns his back to the crowd and pretends to survey the spread of food in front of him.
“Now we wait,” Bakugou says.
You’re whirled around the room, dancing and schmoozing at Bakugou’s side for an hour before you finally need a break. Being introduced as Bakugou’s ‘girlfriend’ garnered you some strange looks since it is his ex’s engagement party, but you soak everything up. For a moment, you’re able to forget that you’re here under threat, and pretend that you’re actually dating him. You leave him for the refreshment table, hoping water will quench your thirst and your thirst.
“I don’t think we’ve had the pleasure of meeting before?” a familiar voice says. You nearly spit out your water when you see Momo smiling at you. She’s more enchanting in person, and you can’t imagine her betraying the person she supposedly loves for any reason. Unless she didn’t really love Bakugou.
“I don’t think we have, I did the flowers for this evening,” you gesture to the nearest vase. Set on making this exchange as short and painless as possible, you get ready to leave. “Congratulations on your engagement.”
“Oh, the florist!” she exclaims, stars in her eyes, “I remember the doorman told me you brought a bouquet of gardenias to my apartment. They were lovely, and you’ve done an immaculate job here tonight.”
“Thank you,” you say, slightly taken aback, “I didn’t know it had that big of an impact.”
“Of course, that’s why my father hired you!” she tilts her head as if it should be common sense. Something behind you catches her eye and she lights up again. “If you’ll excuse me.” She waves at whoever is behind you and walks off without another word, leaving a subtle cloud of jasmine in her wake.
The bouquet…
Gears slowly turn in your head. Bakugou… the flowers… the bouquet… No. No, it couldn’t be… The further your thoughts spiral, the more anger festers in the pit of your stomach. Answers. You need answers. You clench your jaw and look for the man of the hour.
Bakugou stands with a group of people, chatting amicably, drink in hand. You march up and thread your arm through his and squeeze it close.
“Excuse the interruption,” you cut into the conversation, “I need to borrow him.” Without waiting for a reply, you stomp off towards the balcony again.
“What the fuck are you doing?” Bakugou hisses and tries to keep his drink from spilling. You ignore him though. He’s evaded your questions for long enough.
Wind whips around you, stirring up your dress as you push the balcony doors open with more force than necessary. You’re alone on the balcony with only the moon as witness.
“You set this all up,” you accuse Bakugou once the door closes.
“Of course I did,” he frowns and straightens his jacket, his drink no longer in his hands but probably on a tray of a server.
“No,” you jab his chest. You want to scream and shout, to beat on his chest and break down in tears, but neither of you need that attention right now. Your nerves are on fire and you’re itching for a fight. “I mean you set me up. It wasn’t an accident that I was at the warehouse by the docks. You had me deliver a bouquet of gardenias to your ex knowing that she would hire me. You really had me going, I’m such a fucking idiot. I thought…”
Anger dissipates to sadness. Is this the fucking five steps of grief or whatever? Anger? Bargaining? Sadness? You walk to the railing and stare at the city below you. Cars move in orderly fashion, stopping at intersections where crowds of people cross.
“Say it,” Bakugou growls. Your shoulders sag in defeat.
“I thought you liked me,” you admit, burning shame searing your face, “But that was obviously part of your con.” Silence after your admission stretches on longer than comfortable. You wish he would say anything. A confirmation that he too likes you, or swift rejection.
“Was it though? Or was it so I would have one last chance to see you before I disappear?” Bakugou says.
“What?” Turning to face him, you expect to see a smug grin that you were wrong in your assumption, but Bakugou isn’t gloating. Hands shoved in his suit pocket, his brows are slightly furrowed.
“You didn’t really think I would stay here after this is over, did you?” he asks. Guiltily, you stare at the floor. You didn’t really know what to expect after this was over, but Bakugou leaving? It hadn’t crossed your mind. “I have a buyer and a plane waiting on standby to take me anywhere I want to go after this is over. Ururaka is wiring money from her accounts to four offshore shell companies as we speak. If I hadn’t gotten you wrapped up in this, I would have ghosted you, and you would’ve wondered what happened.”
“No I wouldn’t,” you say stubbornly.
“And you would go around asking questions,” Bakugou cocks his head, completely ignoring your interjection, “And eventually you’d ask the wrong person and would wind up in trouble.” He slowly makes his way over to you.
“You’re wrong,” you hold his crimson gaze. He stops right in front of you, closes enough to feel heat radiating off of him, but far enough away to leave you wanting more.
He leans in, his lips next to your ear. His anticipatory exhale tickles your ear. “I guess we’ll never find out, now will we?”
“Did you really have to kiss her though?” you ask quietly, the searing kiss playing on repeat in your mind. If it was to get a security card, he could have felt her up, no need to play tonsil hockey.
“So you are jealous,” he says smugly and leans back. Triumphant eyes rove your face, taking in your embarrassment.
“Of course I am,” you snap, “I didn’t want you to know though.”
“Aw, did I bruise your ego?” he purrs, “Do you want me to kiss it better?”
“How the hell do you-” His lips are on yours before you can complete the sentence.
Bakugou’s hand ghost over your neck, sending shivers down your spine, before cupping your cheek. The rough pads of his thumbs tenderly stroke your cheekbones while the other hand pulls your body flush with his. His tongue traces your bottom lip and draws you in.
Blood buzzes in your ears and your heart feels like it will burst out of your chest. Your fingers dig into his back, eliciting a sinful moan from him. You break the kiss with a whine when his hips torturously grind against yours.
“You really don’t know what you do to me, do you?” Bakugou rasps against your neck. Teeth trail along your skin before biting down possessively in the soft spot where neck meets collarbone. You arch into him, breathy pants escaping you. He kisses the spot tenderly before resting his forehead against yours.
Breathes commingle between the two of you while your beating hearts slow.
“I was supposed to do this job a long time ago,” he murmurs, “And then I went into this flower shop to send reminder flowers to everyone involved that the time was coming. Instead, I found a woman behind the counter whose wit rivaled my own and was beautiful beyond comparison. The more I grew to know her, the less I could complete the final job. And then it was too late. I couldn’t leave her willingly.”
“The others,” you press, “Did they know?”
“Yes,” Bakugou responds quietly, “They knew I was stalling, and I had to tell them why.”
“That’s why they all hated me,” you sigh. Bakugou presses another kiss to your cheek. Something vibrates against your stomach, and Bakugou releases you to pull a phone out of his pocket.
“It’s time for us to make our exit,” he says and helps adjust your dress back into place, “Wait by the elevator.” Your head is in the clouds, but you comply. Weaving your way through guests who have their eyes on Momo and her fiancé, you stand by the elevator and wait for Bakugou to join you.
You watch the ash blond grab a drink from a tray and silently toast his ex. Momo’s eyes widen fractionally, but her smile freezes when the speakers pumping muzak through the room switch to a scratchy recording of the sweet voice of the siren herself.
“It’s okay, we can pin it all on Bakugou. I love you dear, not him. This will allow us to be together and not have to hide in the shadows anymore.”
Bakugou finishes his drink while the audio goes on to incriminate Momo and her new fiancé further. He calls the elevator and rests his hand on your lower back.
“Now we can go,” he smirks.
“You’re really that petty?” you raise an eyebrow at him. Stepping in, the last thing you see are all eyes on the bride-to-be.
“I could’ve done much worse,” Bakugou shrugs, “But if life hadn’t happened the way it did, then I never would have met you.”
“Bakugou…” your voice trails off.
“Katsuki. Please.” The door opens in the garage. The vans from earlier idle, ready to go once the two of you are in. Kirishima, Sato, and Ururaka sit in one, the other remains empty. “Say it once, before I never get to hear my name fall from your lips again.”
“Katsuki,” you whisper. Bakugou closes his eyes, relishing the sound of his name.
“You’re free to go,” he says sadly, “We’ll go to the airstrip and then the van is all yours.”
“What if I don’t want to go?” you tilt your head. Crimson eyes with garnet and honey woven in them meet yours. Your heart beats faster as you think about your next couple of words. Licking your lips, you add, “I hear the Alps are nice this time of year.”
“You know you won’t be able to return.” His hand takes yours and squeezes it reassuringly.
“I know.”

Idk how to describe this but like a ex platonic Rose the hat x reader and Danny Torrance x platonic reader where the reader had the shining but they didn’t want to turn her yet so she just gets brought around with them and then when the baseball boy scene happens she runs off when everyone starts getting sick and helps Danny and Abra kill the rest of them? Idk it seems interesting to see her reaction?
Little Twerp...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was deafening.
Your heartbeat, that was.
The pounding so loud as your footsteps crunched the leaves into a semi-traceable pathway throughout the forest. It wasn’t long before you hit the main road, but that wasn’t far enough away.
Rose and her group stood around the boy's lifeless corpse as your breathing rang in her ears. She was beyond pissed, but she knew that you'd be easy to find anyways. She'd let you run off. Where would you go anyways? Out in the middle of no where, states away from anyone you know. She'd deal with you later. She had more important things to deal with, everyone in her circle was near death.
You managed to run a few more miles before falling to your knees, out of breath. There wasn't quite enough energy in your body to call out for help, but you held your breath and let out a gut wrenching scream in your head that went straight to Danny.
Back home, Danny nearly fell over from the sheer voice of your words. It wasn't nearly as loud as you had sent it out to be, but the "I escaped" was loud and clear. He and Abra had been looking for any sort of signal from for the past two days to no avail.
Rose was also able to hear your scream as well, but she couldn't help but laugh. How could she have really thought that you could be someone she could rely on?
There wasn't much walking you could do, not anymore. You calves burned and your lungs felt like lava, you could only hope that you message went through to Danny, you needed him more than ever right now.
You had met Danny just around the same time he met Abra. The three of you sort of became pen pals, sending chalk messages to each other to be kept up to date and occasionally a game of telepathic tik-tak-toe. It was also around that time that Abra was able to convince you that Rose was not as she seemed.
Of course, there wasn't much that you could do about that at the time.
Rose knew your face and took you away from everything, she had that power over you. Even talking to Danny and Abra was risky, what if someone was listening in? Well they sure as hell were now.
You considered Danny to be one of the closest friends you had, if not the only friend, besides Abra. The two of you seemed to understand each others struggles and the connection between the two of you was as strong as ever.
Danny knew the two days prior to this incident that something was wrong when you didn't join in on his and Abra's conversation, and especially when you were silent the next day as well. Abra told him that you were in danger and what revolved around the baseball boy. That was news to you as well, but you were able to confirm their location by being there with Rose.
Dany was already in his car, trying to keep a close eye on Abra who was with Crow, but also trying to cling onto your signal to him. He almost swerved off of the road before, but that only meant he was at least a bit close to you. He was still terrified for your own life.
Blood seeped down your legs from the cuts and scrapes on your knees as you attempted to stand and sturdy yourself. Your breathing sounded like a cage rattling, gasping for as much air as you could. The moonlight was blinding to your swollen eyes, making the upcoming migraine arrive faster.
Danny could tell he was much closer to you than he thought. His chest was on fire and his legs burned, the sound of faint rattling in his ears. Driving miles over the speed limit he swerved from what looked like roadkill before slamming on his breaks, taking a neck-breaking double take to see a body hunched on the side of the road.
He floored on the gas petal, reversing the car and jumping out of the door when he slammed on the breaks. Come to think of it, Danny had never seen what you looked like nor had he met you in person yet. He stood frozen a few feet before your body, wondering if this was even you, but it was still someone in need of help and he didn't know what to do.
Your head spun, you didn't even know Danny was standing before you or that he just drove 90mph past you. Your chest rattled as you attempted to take in another deep breath.
It sounded exactly like the rattling Danny heard in his head. So this was you.
"Oh god," Danny trembled, lunging and kneeling down to pick you up by the shoulders. He knew Rose couldn't have been far with you in this condition, nor could Abra have been that far away.
You belted out and screamed as hands grabbed your shoulders, thrashing with what energy and adrenaline you had left, screaming out to leave you alone. Kicking and doing everything to get Rose off of you.
"Hey! No- stop it, stop it," Danny struggled, taking a few arm slaps and shin kicks, "It's Dan! It's Danny!"
Grasping ahold of your shoulders once more, Danny gently shook you. Cooing and telling you it was alright. Your body settled after his words hit you, your eyes opening as best as they could as you registered the man before you, not Rose.
Danny.
It was Dan. Danny. Penpal Danny. Uncle Dan.
Your mouth opened slightly with no words escaping, your vocal cords fried from all the internal screaming and begging you had been doing. He looked at you with wide eyes, hoping to some God that you were okay, or at least that you would just be quiet. Come to think of it, Abra was still awfully quiet, but he could pick up small grumbles and incoherent words. She was coming around, at least.
You slumped forward into Danny's arms, gently sobbing and letting him hold you. He wasn't very good at comfort but he let you stay there, reluctantly petting your head before lifting you up to usher you over to the safety of the car.
~~
Rose was gasping for her life, screaming into the void as she felt her True Knot slowly coming undone. She could almost personally feel every bullet that took down her peers. Her knuckles were white and her face paler than normal, mouth agape and head bent.
Why hadn't she had gone after you the moment you ran off? Look at what you've done to her Knot and what was left of them. This was your fault and she was going to see to your end.
She was in no right mind to tell where you were or pick up on your shining with how heartbroken she was reliving each death of the True Knot members.
Abra was to blame for this as well.
~~
You sat in Danny's car, having regained enough energy to communicate through to both him and Abra. It was thanks to you that Danny and Bill were able to make it to the camping spot of the True Knot as fast as they did, armed and ready.
Danny was stationed a few trees away from Bill. Bill waiting for Danny's word, Danny waiting for your word, you waiting for any signal from inside the camper. It was awfully quiet, but you could specifically point out Andi's presence. She was always easy to point out by how potent she was, and she was definitely inside of that camper.
"Everything okay?" Danny signaled.
"Get ready."

Alex Chen × Steph Gingrich fluffy comfort one-shot
(I was talking to a friend about the game and we were discussing how Alex is probably still carrying a lot of trauma. And even after everything that happened at the mines we still don't see her really grieve for the whole situation and herself. So- I had to write it, you know?)
Enjoy!
TW: mentions of suicide, death and mental health issues.
It's two months into their relationship now, and they are somewhere in a Californian town, living in a tiny apartment close to the beach. They play together in small venues and underground clubs. Alex bartends and Steph referees for DND campaigns at a nerd bar they found by chance on their first week there.
They're happy. As happy as Alex remembers being since she was- well, maybe nine.
Every day, it's a little like waking up into a dream. Living in an apartment with her first girlfriend, listening to music as they cooked dinner together. Getting to kiss her just because Alex felt like it. Because her heart went a little loopy inside her chest when she smiled. Because she knew Steph would hold on to her waist and make her feel like she was full of electricity.
The 'falling in love' business felt overrated before Steph.
But Being in the middle of it now, Alex doesn't think there's anything better.
Although a part of her still felt quite numb - she guesses it's not something that will go away that easily - and day by day, Alex felt a little bit more like she could breathe... like she was finally letting herself go, at least a little bit.
****
Now that she could comprehend and use her powers, it also seemed as if she'd started to become even more of a magnet for all sorts of emotion around her. And apparently Alex could do it in her sleep too.
The nightmares came in clusters most of the time, a badly cut-together mess of voices and feelings. The lady that lived under them, who lost her son when he was little. The couple from down the street, who were going through a hard time in their relationship. Even the little girl from upstairs, who had terrible night terrors of sharp-teethed monsters reaching from under her bed.
They all mixed inside her head until she woke up gasping for air and sizzling with emotion.
It was rare that she'd have a full dream, one that made sense and completed itself, but when she did they were always about Gabe. About sitting together at the rooftop of the Lantern and sharing a beer. Or climbing trees, like they used to do when they were little.
It was a relief from the usual doom.
And that dream was supposed to be nothing different. Or at least she thought it wasn't.
****
In it, they were at the ravine. A world of twinkling stars shining above their heads. The Colorado mountains all around them creating a landscape that was just as beautiful as it was bittersweet. Alex could see the log she'd crossed, still standing between her and the tiny outcrop of stone Ethan had been stranded on.
She hadn't dreamed of the ravine since leaving Haven Springs, but while she was there, Alex dreamt of it every night. She would see it when her eyes were closed. She could hear it, - the sirens, the terrible, deafening rumble of the ground splitting beneath them. The panic, pounding into her ears.
But this is different. Because when she looks around, Alex realizes she's standing over the elevated plateau, tied to the waist and leaning all her weight against a sturdy piece of rock.
Looking at her from below is Gabe. Lying on the cold ground. A cheesy smile spread across his face.
"Why are we switched?" Alex asks because that's all she can think of asking, as she stares at the rope that anchored her to the ground... to Gabe.
"Beats me. This is all your brain, not mine." He says, and Alex huffs in annoyance, "you know what's going to happen, but you keep coming here."
"I don't have a choice."
"Hmmm..." Gabe hums, but there's some humor in his expression as he stares intently back at her, "and that's exactly why... I'm here because I should say goodbye."
A coldness spreads over Alex's limbs. Around her, the very fabric of the dream dims into darkness as a strong breeze blows past them. She suddenly feels like throwing up.
"What- what does that mean?" It's a stupid question. This is her dream. Alex knows what it means.
Deep down, she knew she'd been conjuring him up for her own sake. Trying to bring back any morsel of relief into the giant hole he'd left inside her heart. However, Alex also knew at some point he'd be gone- she just didn't expect-
"You don't need me anymore, Alex." He says. As if it's that simple. As if she'd ever-
"I'll always need you, Gabe. Of course I need you." The words stumble out of her mouth, and she can feel the hot, angry tears falling down her face.
It feels like a hot iron pressed to the very top of her chest.
Like lava, boiling up into her bloodstream until Alex wants to punch something. The steam that prickles from under her skin, fighting to break free.
Anger always comes first when people feel cornered. It's something she noticed a while back. Out of all the emotions Alex had dealt with the past few months, that, at least, hadn't changed.
"Shit, Gabe. When you died I needed you more than ever."
"But we can't fix that, can we?" He asks, and another wave of anger rips through her. She looks anywhere but him, because Alex feels that if she does, she'll tackle and kill him all over again. But when he says nothing and they're left in the same pocket of silence - the one right before the whole world collapsed - her eyes eventually fall back to her brother. Tied to her and laid on the ground beneath. Looking at her like just as much the goofy asshole she missed so much.
Anger always felt urgent and fast, like a flash going through her body and leaving everything inside it in disarray. It demanded to be completely felt, but only for the moment it took for Alex to decide it wasn't worth launching the nearest object at a window.
Or trying to kill her dead brother.
"You might have needed Gabe. But you don't need this Gabe anymore, Alex. You can do it on your own now."
The fear and sadness that came after? They were usually much, much worse.
"But this is the only Gabe I have."
Those emotions, when mixed, turned into a horrible harmony that paralyzed her lungs and darkened the sides of her vision. They felt just as urgent as anger, but complacent. A beast staring at her from the very bottom of a pit. Tied to her by the waist and trying to lure her down into the abyss.
And, for Alex, the abyss was as deep as a ventilation shaft for a Colorado mining site.
"No, it's not. You'll always have me, Alex. And you know that." Not in the way that matters. Alex wants to say, but it's so redundant. He's the ghost. He should already know that. "And you have Ryan now, and Eleanor, Riley, Charlotte, Ethan... Steph..." he gives her a cheesy smile in the last name, wiggling his eyebrows back at her teasingly.
"Oh, God, way to ruin the moment." Alex can't help but chuckle a little through her tears. Is she blushing? You can't blame her for blushing, right? God, she feels like Diane.
"Hey. Let me have it. One of my only regrets is that I never got to tease the hell out of Steph for dating my little sister... and for being whipped as hell."
"That would have been so funny."
"I knew she'd get along with you but I guess I didn't expect... that. Shame on me. Should've had more artistic vision."
Alex chuckles as more tears run down her face. It's so bittersweet it hurts from the very inside of herself.
"All jokes aside. I'm glad you have her, and that she has you. She's good. Just make sure you tell her I'll haunt her from the grave if her dumb ass breaks your heart, okay?" Alex nods, and her body starts shaking with strangled sobs. So much emotion she just can't let go of. Because if she does, Alex is afraid there'll be nothing left.
"Hey. Don't cry. You can do this, Alex. You know how to live life now."
"I don't want to lose you again, Gabe."
"You'll never lose me. You'll just have to look a little harder." He smiles up at her, pulling jokingly on the rope, "now play your part - or is it my part? You get it."
And then- too soon. (Same as it was that night.) The sirens blast through the mountains, and somewhere above them, a giant explosion blows her eardrums, and boulders the size of cars come tumbling down the mountain.
She barely has time to blink. Barely has time to breathe one last time. Seen as she's Gabe, when she looks up all she sees is the giant rock, flying towards her, hitting her across the torso so hard, before she knows, she's flying way above the ravine, and one last glimpse of the stars catches hold over the veil of her memory before everything turns black.
****
She wakes up in bed, desperately clawing at the top of her chest as she gasps for air. Her lungs feel like they're made of lead, and all around her, she can feel the weight of the rocks, the explosion, the debris, weighing down her body.
Alex pats across the mattress for Steph, who is not there. Another wave of panic washes over her. So strong her mouth turns dry and her head aches as she tries to breathe in, but her lungs can only handle tiny, torturous gasps of half-breath.
Alex dispels a world of curses towards herself inside. Willing her own body to just calm down. In the bathroom, she can hear Steph singing softly to herself- she must have come home late from the DND tournament. Alex told her she'd swing by, but she'd had a long shift and ended up just passing out as soon as her head hit the pillow.
Alex hadn't had an incident like this in very long. She could control it now. Most times. It wasn't easy, with being on the road and constantly surrounded by people. Sometimes, she still got more than she could bargain. When she walked across a depressed person on the sidewalk, or heard one of their multiple neighbors yelling at each other through the walls, and suddenly she felt as if the world blended out of focus into a tsunami of feeling.
Feeling that wasn't hers but still felt so much like it was.
Steph helped whenever it happened. For a sarcastic punk rock mess, she was surprisingly stable and so very reassuring.
Just the fact that she can hear her voice. That Steph is there in the apartment with her, is enough to calm some of her nerves, and while Alex still can't keep herself from pulling in gasps of air as she tries to hold in any kind of oxygen, she at least has a plan.
Water. Water will make her feel better, right?
Almost as soon as the idea crosses her mind, Alex's half-delirious brain commands her to get up, but her body feels so very heavy. Like she's really been trampled over by a wave of giant boulders. And as soon as her feet touch the ground, her legs give up under the weight, and she falls onto the hard floor with a loud, heavy thud.
The girl's hands fly up to hold her weight against the bed, and thankfully that means she doesn't face plant the ground, but it sends her heart into a neck-breaking pace, and all air Alex'd been able to gather so far escapes her in a single huff until she's hyperventilating again, hot, angry tears running down her face.
You're so weak. You're such a fucking idiot. Of course, you had to go and lose Gabe twice, who the fuck would want to stay with such a mess-
"Alex, are you okay?" Steph's voice comes, as she opens the door to find her girlfriend sitting on the ground, looking like she might pass out from just trying to get her lungs to work, "Alex!"
In a second she's crossed their room and kneeled by her, both hands going up to her cheeks on instinct, smearing away her tears.
"Breathe with me, okay? We've done this before, you can do it." She always gets just a tiny bit of a scared aura around her when Alex gets like this, never for long enough that she can read it, but it's still there, the tiny flutter of fear, "come on, breathe."
Her eyes go up to find Steph's, her strong, glittering green gaze. Alex might be the one with superpowers, but it was Steph who could so easily reach in and soften her edges like it was nothing. It was Steph who could just lean in and hold Alex's hand against her chest, letting her feel the determined rise of her lungs. Strong. Stable. Even Alex couldn't possibly understand how she did that.
How she always made Alex's breathing slowly come to shaky, deep breaths, crawling painfully out of her dry throat, but still better than gasping like a fish. Inside her, Alex feels the furious hurricane of emotion, twisting itself into the bottom of her lungs, taking hold of every bit of her until she felt like she could throw up.
"Wait here, I'll get you water," Steph says, and Alex wants to complain, she doesn't want to be alone, even for a second.
But before she can, Steph has left their bedroom for the kitchen, and Alex feels as if she's stable enough to crawl into bed, so she does so at a glacial pace. She grabs Shu-Shu, holding her close to her chest as she sits and waits for Steph.
She eventually comes back in with a glass full and Alex gulps it down in silence, unsure if whatever dam of emotion that has taken place inside of her will break if she tries to speak. So she sets the glass back and lies her head down on the pillow, facing away from Steph and the rest of the room as she tries to reel herself back in.
She can hear Steph taking off her boots and climbing into bed, one arm winding around her waist as she pulls Alex in closer.
"Was it the lady from upstairs?" Steph asks, eventually, after they sit in a few long minutes of silence.
"No." She replies, and it comes out so strangled, so broken, a few more tears run down her face. Steph pulls her even closer, a tight, steady pressure.
"The couple again? I swear to God I'll call the police on that asshole this time."
"No." Alex says, and she detaches herself from Steph just enough so she can turn around and look at her, "I had a dream about Gabe." Simply saying his name makes her whole body shake. Steph is looking at her so intensely, Alex has to close her eyes, holding on to the fabric of her shirt with all she had not to explode in whatever terrifying, dizzying bomb of emotion she could feel brewing inside herself.
Alex felt so much from other people it overwhelmed her multiple times a day, and even then, it was nothing compared to this. Nothing compared to how much sheer strength it took from her not to let it blow.
It scared her. More than anything.
"He wanted to say goodbye." She says eventually, "it was- I don't know. This- I- this isn't coming from anyone- How do I get rid of it? It's like it's all inside of me and it's taking up so much space and I don't know how to fix it" The words come tumbling out before she can stop them, and she's rambling through tears.
Steph sighs. And Alex can feel the love and sadness mixed together, blowing from her in waves as she holds Alex's chin, bringing her up so they can look at each other.
"Baby..." there are tears in her eyes now, as she pulls her closer until their foreheads are touching, and they are so close Alex can smell her lemongrass shampoo, "This is all yours."
And such simple words shouldn't hit her this fucking hard.
But it all suddenly makes so much sense-
Alex was numb after her dad left. She felt nothing for months. It was one of the most terrifying feelings in the world, a deep and powerful depression that threatened to overtake her at any given point.
Like her whole body was nothing but dead weight and her brain was way too tired to even try and keep up.
Young as she was, Alex guesses she never realized the first time she felt anything at all after that was when she discovered her powers. The day a boy came to the orphanage and he was so angry it blew her across the hallway. Ever since then, everything around her was a cacophony of feeling. Coming from every direction. Every street corner, every store, every park.
Every moment of her life since she was eleven, Alex could only feel for others.
"I- I forgot." She realizes, half surprise and half so much sadness another sob breaks through her throat.
Now it made sense, the anger, the sadness, the fear, a hurricane of emotion so very powerful it made her ears ring.
"I'm scared." She admits. Because for someone who had been so focused on learning how to exist among other people's feelings, Alex had no clue how to handle herself, "what do I do with all of this? How do I fix it?"
"Alex. Look at me." Steph brings her face upwards until they are so close, Alex can see the speckles of blue in her eyes, "Gabe died just four months ago, and you were there to see everything- then you got shot and thrown down God knows how many stories into a dark abyss that you somehow walked out of, but not before also finding out about your dad's tragic death - and I haven't seen you cry, actually cry, for yourself, even once."
"I- I can't, it's too much. I don't know how, Steph." Alex had learned her lesson. She'd seen her life as it was and survived it. Deep down she knew it wasn't her responsibility anymore - that it never was her responsibility, to begin with - to hold herself together for others. She knows.
But old habits die hard, and Alex guesses it'll take a while before she starts feeling it too.
Because right now, it still felt like the world might collapse if she wasn't there to hold it together.
"Just- give it to me. Everything you have, I can carry it for you." Steph says, with such determination, Alex actually believes her, but she takes her eyes away, trying to avoid the bubbling of tears threatening to jump out through her throat "Let it go, please, Alex. I can't watch you carry it alone anymore."
At that moment, Alex glances at her again, and there's so much pain, so much love in her eyes, that inside Alex, the dam finally breaks and she's choking on sobs. Tears start running down her cheeks as Steph leans in and pulls her closer, one arm around her shoulder and one on her hip, squeezing tight in reassurance.
If she didn't know better, Alex would've guessed Steph was the one with the superpowers, with the way she coaxes wave after wave of emotion out of her with nothing but her steady presence and quick, light kisses she leaves on Alex's head and hair as she holds on to her shirt for dear life.
It overwhelmed her more than anything she'd experienced so far, and for what feels like hours, she just sobs as Steph holds her.
She cries for her mom. Dead before her time, trying to hold them together to the very end. She cries for her dad, dying a slow death deep underground, a picture of the two children he'd never see again dangling around his neck. She cries for Gabe, for the time they'd never have, for the time they did have.
Above all, for the first time, Alex cried for herself. For being the last out of all of them. For the little girl that had to love and lose every single one of them in succession.
And in the middle of all of it, like a speckle of golden light hidden under all the darkness, for the first time, she feels that it could all start to feel alright.

Safe - 8x14 Speculation Fic
Writer’s Note: The idea for this came from the 8x14 synopsis, and while it technically still is a speculation fic, I don’t imagine the episode happening exactly like this. However, I did use what I’ve seen from bts photos and videos, as well as things Tracy has said in interviews to develop some of the scenes/details. This is probably my favorite piece that I’ve written in a while, so I hope you enjoy & thank you for reading!
Hailey rustled through her closet looking for her black wedged boots, trying her best to hurry as she knew Jay was waiting for her in the kitchen. She wasn’t much of a boot with a heel kind of girl, but she and Jay had special plans and she wanted to look nicer than usual. While they had been together for months, that night was the first time they were going on a proper date. They each decided at the beginning of their relationship that with both of their histories, they wanted to keep things simple and to themselves, which meant a lot of take-out and a lot of nights alone in their apartments. However, after Hailey mentioned something in passing about their clandestine time together starting to feel restrictive, Jay made plans at a fancy restaurant where he knew they wouldn’t run into any of their fellow team members.
“I don’t mean to rush you, but our reservation is in 45 minutes and it will take us about 30 to get there,” Jay said softly, peeking his head around the door frame.
“I know, I know. I’m trying to- finally!” she shouted upon finding the boots in the corner of her closet. She brought a knee into her chest as she pulled a boot onto her foot before switching to the other leg and doing the same.
“Okay, I just need to get my phone and wallet and then I’ll be-“ her words were cut short as she caught sight of him for the first time that evening. He was wearing a dress shirt with a light jacket, and his dark jeans curled over the top of a pair of black dress boots. It was much different from his typical, rugged workwear, but she took note of how well the look suited him.
“Wow you clean up nice, Halstead,” she told him with a dimpled smile as he blushed, extending a hand down to help her rise from the floor. Once she was standing, the small space between them closed quickly as she wrapped her arms around his neck, bringing her lips to his briefly. While the heels added extra height, she still needed to raise on her tiptoes to meet his mouth.
“Not too bad yourself, Detective,” he uttered as her lips pulled away. His hands grasped her waist, holding her steady as she remained on her toes. They stayed pressed against one another for a moment looking into each other’s eyes, and just when he was about to go in for another kiss, she fell on her heels and pressed the tips of her fingers against his chest.
“Normally, I would indulge in this further, but we’re going to miss our reservation and I’m starving,” she teased, moving past him to retrieve her phone, keys, and wallet, along with her jacket slung over the back of the couch.
When they arrived at the restaurant, Hailey was charmed by how nice it was. It was far different from the usual dive bars and pubs they went to after work, and part of her even felt like it was too nice for them to be at.
“Halstead, party of 2,” he told the hostess, holding up 2 fingers with the hand that wasn’t intertwined with Hailey’s.
A stifled smile came across her face and she nodded her head towards the floor as they waited for someone to guide them to their table. It seemed surreal to be standing in the middle of a fancy restaurant with him, holding his hand and waiting to be seated for a romantic dinner. She couldn’t tell if it was because of how long she secretly pined over him or if it was because being with Jay felt like her first real love story, but there were many moments when being with him felt like some fantasy, and that moment was one of them. At one point in time, being with him was something she only dreamt about. It was a thought that crossed her mind when his gaze lingered a little longer than it should or when an accidental touch sent her heart racing. Before they took that leap, she worried being with him would mean giving up being his partner. It was that fear that made her keep her feelings bottled up for so long, but as they proved time and time again, as partners, as lovers, and as both - they were good together. She turned her head and placed a light kiss on his shoulder. It was a tangible reminder that he was hers to kiss, but it also grounded her in that moment that felt like just another dream.
The dinner itself was incredible. Hailey officially added the restaurant to her list of favorite food spots in Chicago, and they spent the entire meal giggling and sharing stories they had never shared before. By the end of it, Jay was stuffed, but Hailey insisted they order a dessert, her sweet tooth getting the best of her. Jay teased her for ordering the lava cake, the most indulgent option on the menu, but she was able to tease him right back when he asked the waiter for a second spoon when it was brought to the table.
Just as Jay was about to pay the check, his phone began to ring, Voight’s name popping up across the screen as he pulled out his wallet.
“Uh oh,” Hailey said as he picked it up to answer. Jay spoke with their boss briefly, mainly nodding his head and muttering brief affirmations every few seconds.
“I think she’s out tonight, but I can call her and swing by to pick her up wherever she is,” Jay said, shooting Hailey a wide-eyed look as he quickly came up with an excuse as to why they’d be riding in together all dressed up.
“Alright hot stuff, as much as I’d like to keep this night going, it seems we caught a case,” he told her, as he stood from his chair. He took out his wallet, counting out enough money to cover the check and tip before resting the bills under his glass on the table.
“At least we made it through dessert,” she said, sending him a childlike smile.
“Oh, that was dessert? I had something else in mind for that,” he replied smugly, Hailey’s face turning bright red at his suggestive words.
“Oh really?” She questioned, taking a step towards him to close the gap between them. “You’d better clean up that mind before we get to the scene,” she whispered with a chuckle, twirling around swiftly and making her way towards the door as he shook his head at her tease. His hand found the small of her back as they made their way out the door, and he placed a kiss against her temple, knowing it would probably be the last display of affection he could show before they had to enter partner mode.
When they arrived at the house, Kevin and Voight were outside talking to a few patrol officers. Hailey’s mood had changed drastically upon arriving at the scene. She couldn’t explain why, but she felt uneasy as she jumped out of the truck and secured her badge and gun to her hip.
As they approached, Kevin pursed his lips together and let out a two-tone whistle as he caught sight of Hailey.
“Damn girl, sorry to pull you away from whatever had you all cleaned up,” he told her, cocking his head to the side as she shook her head at him with a smirk. Her eyes caught sight of Voight’s as they darted between her and Jay and she became nervous, imagining that he was putting two and two together. She decided to change the subject quickly before any further comments could ensue.
“Oh, shut up,” she told him. “What do we got?” She asked, spinning her head around the scene and taking in the myriad of patrol cars.
“I think it’s something you have to unfortunately see for yourself. I do have to say, you might want to brace yourself for this one,” he said, turning to lead them inside. Jay and Hailey met eyes, sharing a look of concern before turning and following Kevin and Voight inside.
Walking through the front door, they collectively grimaced at the overwhelming smell of blood that tinged their noses. They hesitantly made their way deeper into the house and Hailey’s heart dropped when she caught sight of a family of four, a couple and their two kids, all tied up and shot dead on the living room floor. That uneasy feeling from before suddenly made sense. She clenched her jaw, groaning at the sight as she looked away, recognizing the same unsettled look in the face of each of her fellow officers.
“What the hell happened here?” Jay asked, looking over at Kevin for the answer.
“This is the second home invasion robbery in this neighborhood this week. Robbery-homicide has been working these guys since the first one, but so far they’ve come up with no leads. Whoever these guys are, they’re professionals. It’s a two-man crew, they come in through the back, dressed head to toe in dark attire, get what they need, kill the family, and get out. They’re in and out in less than 10 minutes and they’ve got a getaway driver who knows how to avoid traffic cameras. Robbery-homicide tells me these guys killed a family of three earlier this week, and that the dad had bruises on his body in addition to the gunshot wound that killed him. Now, what’s interesting is in this case, the mom is the one with these bruises. These families were definitely targeted, we’re just not sure how or why,” he explained causing them each to frown.
While Kevin explained the case, Hailey fell silent as the details brought her back to a string of cases she had worked during her time in robbery-homicide. She spent weeks chasing after a crew targeting families who had shopped at a high-end jewelry store, only that connection was missed for the first half of the investigation. By the time she and her team had finally caught on to why the families were being targeted, four families had already been killed, five kids below the age of ten among the victims. Hailey beat herself up for months knowing if they had caught onto the pattern sooner, they could have saved more of the families - more of the kids. This case sounded eerily similar, and she was bound to not let history repeat itself.
“How’d we catch this if robbery-homicide was on it?” Jay asked, shoving his hands in his pockets as his gaze intentionally avoided the gruesome scene before them.
“Miller assigned it to us. She wanted a fresh pair of eyes. She’s getting a lot of heat from the press about there being no leads, especially since this is a high-end neighborhood. Plus, these guys have already killed three tender-aged kids. I want the animals on a stick,” Voight replied straightly.
“Do we know what they’re after?” Hailey asked, her brain already working to establish a connection.
“No, and that’s what’s given our robbery-homicide guys so much trouble. The only connection is that both families have had pretty high-tech safes somewhere in the house. Last house it was in a bedroom closet, but this one was in the basement. It seems like these guys make their way in, beat the location and combo of the safe out of one of the parents, get what they need, and off the entire family before hauling ass out,” Kevin told them.
“Well, I’ve worked cases like this one before. If we’re going to get anywhere, we need to figure out what it was they wanted and how they knew about it. We’re on a time crunch now, because it’s only a matter of time before these guys strike again,” she said, turning and leaving the house without waiting for any of their responses.
After leaving the scene, they all made their way back to the district to go over the files robbery-homicide had sent over. They browsed over the files for a couple of hours before Voight sent them home, needing them to rest up and refresh before they dove completely into the case the next day. The familiarity of the case was itching at Hailey, but as much as she wanted to see something that everyone else was missing, she came up short in every place she looked.
The next morning, she and Jay got coffee together. She had been quiet since they caught the case. Jay picked up on her shift in mood that occurred from the restaurant to the scene, but he left it alone to give her the space she seemed to need. He eventually built up the nerve to ask what was wrong. She told him about her old case and how much it meant to catch the guys and quickly. He agreed, admitting to her how much seeing those dead kids struck a nerve. He reassured her they would catch them one way or another. As they walked out of the coffee shop, a call came over the radio:
Units over the city-wide, we got calls of a home invasion. 1433 N State Street
“Gold Coast, that’s the same neighborhood as the other home invasions, you think that’s our guys?” Jay asked looking over at Hailey as he held the radio up.
“Could be, let’s roll on it,” she told him, rushing towards his truck as he followed, telling dispatch they were taking the call.
They rolled up to the scene, carefully clearing the house together, but they arrived too late, and the offenders were gone. They found the couple who lived there in the same position as the last two families, only they still had a pulse. Hailey tried asking them what the offenders were after, but all she got were incoherent mutterings from each victim. They both died before ambulances could arrive, but just the same as the other cases, only the husband had signs of bruising in addition to the gunshot wound, and a safe was found in the back of a linen closet. While crime techs combed the house, Hailey made her way out to the back garden, finding a hose to rinse the victim’s blood from her hands. Her hands were shaking so much, she couldn’t quite scrub enough to get them clean. Jay caught sight of her through the window and wade his way out to her, grabbing her hands in his to steady them. She looked up at him as he nodded his head, taking the hose and helping her scrub her hands clean. Once they were clear, he held her hands in his for a minute longer, quickly releasing them when someone cleared their throat behind them. When they turned around Voight was standing there, his hands deep in his pockets, eyeing the two of them as they took a step back from one another. If he didn’t know about them before, he definitely did then.
“You get anything new on these guys?” He asked, a knowing look plastered across his face.
“No, Sarge. They were gone by the time we pulled up,” Jay told him, dropping the hose to the ground.
“Well, get back to it. We’ve wasted enough time as it is, we’ve got to catch these guys,” he said bluntly, turning and making his way back into the house. The two of them stayed there frozen, shaking their heads at how careless they had been to let him walk up on them like that.
Back at the district, they scrubbed the lives of all of the victims, still coming up with no connection between any of them. Nighttime arrived once again with no leads and no suspects, so they decided to call it and head home. That night, Hailey laid awake, tossing and turning for hours. She tried every method she knew to fight off the insomnia that had kept her restless, but nothing was able to lull her into a slumber. It was the case that was keeping her up, and her eyes stared blankly at the ceiling while a million theories circulated through her mind. Something about it just didn’t make sense, and she couldn’t shake the idea that they had been missing an obvious connection. The faces of the couple she tried to save earlier that day remained at the forefront of her mind, and after a while of fighting off the urge to get out of bed and chase that gut feeling, she finally slipped out from the grasp of Jay’s limp arm, carefully retreating from the bed as to not wake him. She made her way over to her closet, pulling on a pair of jeans and slipping a sweatshirt over her head before grabbing her badge and gun from the nightstand and sliding her phone into her back pocket. She made her way to her office, retrieving a sticky note and pen to write Jay a message letting him know where she was going.
Couldn’t sleep. Gone back to the district, needed to go over the case again. ♡
She tiptoed back into the bedroom and placed the note on her pillow where she knew he’d see if he happened to wake up. She grabbed her coat and opened the front door, slowly guiding it closed on her way out, still trying her best to be as quiet as possible. She wasn’t sure what she would be looking for when she arrived at the district, but she had hoped that studying it alone and in the quietness of the empty bullpen would provide her with a new perspective. She made herself a cup of coffee before walking over to her desk and opening up every file they had on the case. She paced the floor of the empty space, flipping through files and studying photos until she was sure there was nothing to see. Finally, she hoisted herself onto the top of her desk, pulling her knees into her chest and eyeing the board for something they may have been missing. Suddenly, she heard the beeping of the keypad and the clanging of the door opening and closing downstairs. She checked her phone to see the time. It was 4 am, and she couldn’t imagine who else would be up that early. She did a double-take as Jay made his way around the corner, a look of exhaustion on his face as he sent her a lazy smile.
“What are you doing here?” She asked him, unclasping her hands from around her knees and pulling herself to the edge of the desk.
“Funny, I was about to ask you the same thing,” he said with a smirk, pulling his jacket from his shoulders and resting it on the back of her desk chair.
“I couldn’t sleep. Something about this case was keeping me up, so I figured instead of lying in bed and staring at the ceiling for hours I would try and make myself useful. You didn’t have to come check on me. I’m fine,” she told him, the corners of her lips curling up into a reassuring smile as he came to stand over her.
“I couldn’t go back to sleep once I realized you were gone,” he told her softly with a slight pout before turning to lean on the desk beside her. “So, what have you figured out?” He asked, his attention turning to the board before them. She sighed, crossing her arms and staring at the crime scene photos as he waited for her response.
“I don’t know. I mean these families have no connections. The kids all go to different schools, they all work at completely different places, they don’t even shop at the same stores, I can’t seem to figure out where their lives intersect, so I just don’t understand why they’re being targeted,” she ran down, looking over at Jay whose eyes surveyed the information on the board.
“Maybe it’s about more than just the robbery. I mean they’re taking time to kill every member of the family, including the kids. Unless these guys are just straight-up psychopaths, it sounds like whatever is going on could be personal,” Jay suggested, looking over at his partner whose eyes were transfixed on one particular photo on the case board. His words sparked something in her, and she caught sight of the words Resurgence Tech written in bold font on a magnet on the refrigerator from the second crime scene. She knew the name was familiar, but she couldn’t remember how.
She pulled out the files from each of the cases and found what she was looking for. An email address registered in the husband’s name from the first robbery ending in resurgencetech.co. Looking at the other files, she was able to establish a connection between all of them leading back to a company previously known as Resurgence Tech. As she and Jay investigated through the night, they were able to figure out what was being stolen and why it was worth killing over. Resurgence Tech was a company co-founded by four individuals, Ryan Ethers, victim of the first robbery, Scarlett Jameson, victim of the second, Max Lin, victim from the third, and Lianne Meadows, who lived in a house in the Gold Coast District close to the previous victims. Five years prior, Resurgence Tech created a breakthrough idea for a high-tech medical device that had the potential to significantly change the practice of medicine. However, after hours of gathering information and records, the two detectives found out that the design was actually stolen from two brothers who had developed the original idea for a project they were working on in college. Resurgence used their power and influence to discredit the claims of the brothers, blacklisting them from the entire industry, and eventually pulling the design before it could ever meet the market. Not long after, Resurgence shut down for good, liquidating its assets and washing its hands of its shady actions for good. Digging deeper into the four co-founders of Resurgence and knowing more about where to look, Hailey and Jay were able to find email exchanges between them all discussing what to do with the patent plans for the stolen design in case there ever came a time to reintroduce the tech to the market. The strategy was to split the plans between the four of them, each keeping a piece locked up on a thumb drive hidden in a safe.
As soon as the sun rose that morning, Hailey called Voight and the rest of the team to come in. She explained the connection and identified the brothers as suspects, describing how the robberies must have been to obtain the thumb drives and get vengeance for the way Resurgence screwed them over. The situation had a significant impact on the brothers’ lives, leading them to turn to a life of crime, describing how they got connected with an armed robbery crew, and began pulling jobs across the city before getting caught only a year after Resurgence blacklisted them from the tech industry. They were released early due to overcrowding and good behavior, so they got out, hacked into the emails of the individuals that ruined their lives, and found out the design was out there, still viable to be profited from. Running on anger and revenge and using the skills they developed in their time with the robbery crew, they sought to take back what was theirs. They were operating under the theory that the two brothers were committing the crimes, and a guy that used to run with them in their old robbery crew was taking on the role as the getaway driver.
“Well, let’s go scoop ‘em up,” Voight said upon hearing the rundown of the case.
“Sarge, as much as I want to bring these guys in, we don’t have any evidence on them. There’s been no DNA, no prints, no witnesses tying these guys to these cases. There’s no way they’re going to talk, and if we bring them in, they’re just going to get released even if we keep them for the full 48 hours. By then they’ll have already made plans to run,” Jay said.
“These guys have killed nine people, three of those people being little kids. If we don’t act now, they’re going to strike again and that’s going to be blood on our hands. We bring them in, and we make them talk. I don’t care if we have to threaten them, or if we get ‘em to flip on each other. Either way, we’re not just going to sit around and wait for something to happen on this one. Not when we’ve got a pile of bodies growing the longer we sit here with our thumbs up our asses. So, Hailey, Jay, I want you two going to pick these guys up,” Voight bit back, a distinct annoyance in his voice. He had been on edge throughout the entirety of the case, but his temper seemed to have only increased after walking up on Jay and Hailey at the scene a day prior.
As much as Hailey wanted to side with Voight, she knew Jay was right. Bringing them in with no evidence and no witnesses placing them at any of the scenes would only guarantee them getting to walk, something she was determined to not let happen.
“Sarge, we can’t,” she muttered, swallowing what felt like a rock in her throat as his face fell with bitter surprise.
“What?” He challenged, his head dropping down as he cut his eyes at her.
“Jay is right. We can’t just jump on these guys with no evidence or else we risk losing them for good. I know you want to get these guys quick, but there’s got to be a better play,” she replied, taking note of the uncomfortable looks expressed by the other Intelligence members who quietly observed the interaction from the other side of the room. She watched as he pulled the inside of his cheek between his teeth.
“Remind me, who’s the sergeant of this unit?” The question carried a great deal of weight, and everyone in the room fell silent as his eyes travelled between each of the five intelligence members. “You don’t have to agree with what I say, but there’s a chain of command here and I expect you to listen to me. Now, unless there’s another sergeant in this unit I’m unaware of, I’m in charge. So, I’m only going to say this one last time. Jay, Hailey, go pick these guys up. I have to go update Miller on what’s going on. Those guys better be sitting in interrogation when I get back. End of,” he roared, making his way past the officers who remained frozen in place.
While Adam, Kevin, and Kim went back to work, Hailey grabbed her jacket, heading down the hallway out to the parking lot to follow the sergeant’s orders.
“Hailey, wait,” Jay called after her, grabbing her arm and pulling her into the observation room where he knew the others wouldn’t be able to hear them.
“What?” She questioned, a look of concern on her face as he silently thought through his words.
“I think I have another play,” he told her.
“Jay, he seemed- “she began before he cut her off.
“No, I know, but you know I’m right. We bring these guys in now and these families will never get the justice they deserve. We know there’s only one family left on their list, Lianne Meadows. The only move we have left is to catch these guys in the act. I say we sit on her house and wait for the robbery to go down, snatch them up, and then we have the guns tying them to the other cases and we have leverage to get them to flip if we need to,” Jay told her, the look in his eyes pleading with her to agree.
She knew Jay was right, but she also knew what going against Voight’s orders would mean. By that point, it was safe to assume he knew about their relationship. She knew that alone would be cause for him to assign them to different partners or even to different units. Teaming up and going against him would only increase the chances of him pulling the trigger on that. From the start of the case, she knew she wanted to catch the guys no matter what, but she never imagined it would involve making a decision that could possibly jeopardize her partnership with Jay. Every part of her knew his way was the only option that gave them a chance of making things right, yet she knew there would be a cost to them both going against Voight’s orders.
“You’re right… but let me do it alone,” she told him, causing him to frown at her words.
“What? No, I can’t let you go after these guys by yourself,” he argued, a combination of concern and annoyance in his voice.
“Jay, if we do this together it’s only going to give him reason to split us up. I have a feeling we’re already on his hit list after everything that has happened these past few days, and if he sees that we’re siding with each other… going rogue against his orders? He could reassign us partners, or worse, ship one of us off again. You, this partnership, our relationship, it all means too much to me to risk. If I go alone, only I take the fall, and he doesn’t have reason to use our relationship against us,” Hailey told him, moving a hand to his chest as she spoke.
Pushing him away and crossing that line by herself was the only way she knew how to protect both their relationship and their partnership. With her history of crossing lines, she had hoped it would just seem like another questionable decision she made all on her own, and he wouldn’t have reason to punish both of them by splitting them up.
“Hailey, I’m not just letting you go there without backup,” he finally said, his jaw set tightly as he peered into her eyes.
“I’ll have Trudy assign some patrol guys for backup. That way you and the others don’t take fall back from Voight, but I won’t be going in alone,” she replied, moving the hand from his chest to cup his face. “I’ll be fine,” she told him.
He nodded hesitantly before sliding his fingers down her arm and wrapping his hand around hers.
“Be careful,” he insisted, squeezing her hand lightly.
“Of course,” she nodded back before opening the door and disappearing down the hall.
She sat out front of the house, the patrol officers waiting a street over for her signal. It had been about an hour and she had already dodged two calls from Voight. Her patience was running thin with every minute that passed without a sign of the crew. Then, she spotted a dark van creeping down the street and she slumped down in her seat, trying to avoid being seen. As the van approached the house, two men rolled out of the back door as the van maintained a low speed before stopping down at the end of the street. The second the men made it around the back of the house, Hailey radioed the patrol guys, climbing out of her car and drawing her weapon as she followed the offenders around the back. When the patrol guys caught up, she nodded to one of them, signaling them to open the back door and enter the home. The second they made it through the doorway, they were catching fire. Hailey took cover behind a door frame, keying her radio attached to her vest.
“10-1, 10-1, shots fired at the police, 1327 N Dearborn Street. Be advised patrol and plainclothes officers on scene,” she yelled into the radio, securing her free hand back on her gun before motioning the officers to press forward. They made their way into the house, carefully clearing each room as they passed through. When they made it to the front of the house, she caught sight of one of the guys escaping out the front door.
“5021 Henry I’m in foot pursuit of a suspect in an alleyway going west across the street from the original location,” she called out into the radio as she pumped her legs with each step, trying to control her breath as she chased after the suspect. He rounded a corner and she slowed down, holding her gun out to peer around the corner before continuing the pursuit. The next thing she knew, her gun was being kicked out of her hands and she was being thrown against the wall, hitting the side of her head against brick and feeling blood trickle down her face. She brought a knee up into her attacker’s groin, giving her a brief opening to connect an elbow with the side of his head. Falling to the ground, the man grabbed at her ankle, bringing her down with him before grabbing hold of her vest and laying a fist into her jaw. The blow sent her backward, shooting pain into the side of her face. She caught sight of her gun on the ground a few feet away and went to crawl for it, but he grabbed at her leg, drawing her backward toward him as she stretched her fingertips towards the handle. He was stronger than her, and he managed to pull her back enough to regain hold of her vest, winding up to lay another fist into her face. Before he could, she wrapped a leg around his, twirling him over so she was hovering over him. She began laying fist after fist into his masked face until she suddenly felt a hand on her shoulder. She flinched, sending her elbow backwards towards the person. It was grabbed instantly, and she wiggled in the grasp before turning around and taking in the familiar green eyes of her partner.
“Hailey, we got him,” he said, holstering his gun and grabbing her by each arm to pull her up from the ground. Kim came from behind him, removing the mask from the offender and rolling him over to place him in cuffs. Meanwhile, Jay wrapped Hailey in his arms, bringing his chin down to her head as they swayed together in an embrace. Her breath was heavy and shaky, and she felt tears pool at the corners of her eyes. She was overwhelmed by everything that had just happened, but his arms wound tightly around her helped steady her breathing.
“It’s okay Hailey, you’re safe. I’ve got you,” he reassured her through a whisper. She took comfort in his words, and despite the pain surging through her head, she buried it deeper into his chest.
Luckily, they had reached the target and her family in time before the offenders could do any harm. Hailey went to Med to get her head checked out. A few stitches and several scans later, she was cleared, making her way back to the district to take whatever repercussions Voight had in store for her. The second she made it up the stairs, everyone’s eyes fell on her and she just flashed them a gentle smile and nod, signaling to them she was okay. Voight came to the doorway of his office, and she didn’t miss a beat heading straight towards him. However, just before she reached the door, his attention shifted over towards Jay at his desk.
“You too, Jay,” was all the sergeant said before turning and moving back into his office. Jay stood, making his way over and closing the door behind him before coming to stand beside Hailey across from the Voight’s desk. He looked over at them silently for a moment, Hailey setting her jaw tightly as she braced for whatever was to come.
“Are we just making a habit out of disobeying me and questioning my orders? Is that what we’re doing now?” He asked them. They remained silent. “Because if that’s what we’re doing and you’ve got a problem with how I run things, there’s the door. You can get out right now,” he told them sternly.
“Sarge, we needed to get those guys. Catching them in the act was the only way. I did what I had to do to make sure those families got justice,” Hailey said, her eyes remaining fixed with his.
“I told you to pick them up, bring them in, and instead you went your own way, putting that family, yourself, and a couple of patrol officers at risk. I could suspend you over this,” he argued, a distinct tension building in his voice.
“Sarge, it was my idea. If anyone deserves punishment, it’s me,” Jay admitted, causing Hailey’s head to swivel his direction, a cross look on her face as the words left his mouth.
“No, that’s not… Look, I went there on my own. I’m the only one to blame here,” Hailey argued causing him to shake his head before them.
“Okay, look. I know there’s something going on between you two, I have known for a while,” the second the words left his mouth, their eyes met briefly, and they both swallowed hard before turning back to him. “I decided to turn a blind eye because you two were able to keep it strictly professional here at work as far as I was concerned. But what happened today, what’s happening right now… this lying to me and covering for each other is not welcome in my unit. This is your warning and it’s the only one you’re going to get. As long as I’m in charge of this unit, you listen to me. You don’t go off-book, you don’t go behind my back because you disagree with what I say, and you certainly don’t let whatever is going on between you two change the way you make decisions. I know you guys are going to have each other’s backs… as partners and as whatever else, but the second that trumps having my back and the team's back, the way it did today, it undermines my authority and puts all of us at risk. If anything happens again like what happened today, you’re both done, and I’ll make sure you never work in the same unit again. Is that clear?” He asked them.
“Understood,” Jay replied.
“Yes, Sarge,” Hailey uttered, her heart rate dropping significantly with relief.
They drove home that night in silence, partly from exhaustion and partly from trying to process everything that had happened in the past 72 hours. Three days ago, they were on their first official date, celebrating their relationship for what felt like the first time, and now they were coming down from what could have easily been the end of their job and their partnership. Even though she hated the way it had to go down, she stood by having Jay’s back and trying to protect their relationship, even if it meant muddying the waters between them and Voight. From the start of the case, she was determined to catch the guys, chasing a small sense of redemption she felt she needed for that case she worked so many years prior. She wasn’t happy about everything that happened, particularly everything that went wrong, but she was able to save a family and get some form of justice for the others, and she stood by that firmly. It wasn’t the first time she had challenged Voight or crossed lines, but it was the first time she was genuinely fearful of the consequences. She was just glad her fears didn’t come to fruition. She looked over at Jay in the driver’s seat, and she remembered the way he told her she was safe after pulling her from the attacker only hours prior. Safe wasn’t something she had felt often in her life, but she certainly felt it when she was with him. She smiled to herself in the dark, satisfied to know that at least for that day, despite everything that happened, their relationship and their partnership were two things she could still consider safe.

The pub seemed like a good idea at first. To eat some food and get to know each other some more, but the last thing Y/N was thinking of was food. He should’ve let her win, should have just waited till the end of the night to kiss her because he really just fucked it for the both of them.
She was sitting there, sipping on her wine and eating the appetizers they had ordered for them to share, chatting away but it was clear Y/N couldn’t focus. The amount of times he had caught her just staring at his lips was embarrassing, she wished she could stop. It was been months since Y/N had sex. Probably ages since she’d had good sex. She was never unsatisfied though, felt like she had gotten enough. Something about the way he kissed her and touched her and looked at her made her feel hot. He could tell she was distracted. He wasn’t sure why but he caught her staring directly at him and was curious why she had gotten so squirmy for-- until he asked.
“Bunny?” He had taken to calling her that, “Are you okay? You seem so distracted.” He murmured, rubbing over her hand. She snapped out of it and looked at him with wide eyes. “Do you not like the place? Or do you not feel well?” He hoped neither was the case but he was curious what was making her zone out the way she was. He had to ask her questions twice or call her name.
“Sorry,” Y/N mumbled, realizing she had zoned out enough for him to start noticing. He asked her what was up. What was she supposed to say? ‘You kissed me and now I’m horny and can’t have a focused conversation’? She was all embarrassed, her cheeks flushing at his concern. “No, no, it’s not that at all,” Y/N explained, looking at him and feeling her heart beating faster. Her pupils were certainly dilated beyond belief. “It’s lovely, I like it here... I’m feeling okay, I just..” She needed to just spit it out. “It’s going to sound really juvenile.” Y/N didn’t know how he was going to react but she couldn’t lie. “I just really want to kiss you again.” Her cheeks got all red, licking over her lips as she squirmed in her seat a bit. Y/N couldn’t focus on the food, she just wanted to swallow him whole. She’d never been like this before. It’s been ages since she’s kissed anyone, but to get this worked up? It was crazy.
But Harry could tell she was horny.
He could see it now with how she tripped over her words, how she squirmed-- she was pressing her thighs together. She wanted kisses. And who would Harry be if he denied her of kisses? He had gotten her to eat at least something.
“Okay. Did you want to leave?” He asked softly, “We can kiss some more but... I don’t think you want to kiss with all these people around.” At least not yet. No, she needed somewhere where he could lick deeper into her mouth and kiss her properly. She let out this sound, this whine, it had his cock reacting to it. Christ. He threw a $50 on the table, standing up steadily while she scrambled a bit. There was an eagerness to her hand grabbing his arm and attaching herself to his side. “Let’s go then.”
They were there probably less than 45 minutes.
Y/N should have been ashamed of herself and she was a bit. “Sorry, you didn’t get to have that lava cake you were talking about..” Y/N murmured, “but I have those brownies I was telling you about?” She at least wanted to offer something, “and wine.” She was all squirmy even in the seat of the car, her heart rate picking up again. Her body never had a reaction like that to a kiss before. What on earth was happening? Was this what it was meant to feel like? A genuine attraction? Cause she was starting to believe she’d never been attracted to anyone before him.
“S’okay, bunny.” He laughed quietly at her mention of the lava cake. “Think that some kisses are a far better alternative. Much sweeter.” He patted her thigh gently. Yes, they were. He was excited to get her truly alone so he could kiss on her and give her what she was wanting. He hadn’t been this attracted to a woman in his life. He had found everything she did incredibly beautiful, even just the way she flipped her hair. It was overwhelming. He was obsessed with her. She didn’t know how beautiful she was.
Once they arrived at her apartment building, Y/N led him through the lobby and into the elevator with quickness in her step. She was eager and that was clear even when she fumbled with her keys, letting him inside and locked the door behind her. She was so incredibly needy, but she needed to chill out a bit. Y/N didn’t want him thinking she was always like this, especially when the date had started off so strongly.
“Again, make yourself comfortable.” Y/N smiled, “I’ll get some wine and some brownies.” She giggled and made her way over to her kitchen to get everything sorted for them. It was rather nice to have him in her home, she felt safe here like she could let loose. She brought over the brownies and the wine, the lighting in the room was on its dim setting seeing as it was past 7 pm. They were on a timer just because she had a bad habit of falling asleep and forgetting to turn them off.
“Y/N?” He murmured to her when she walked towards him. She looked confused but tilted her head as if to ask him what. “Put those down.” He pointed to them, watching her perk up a little as he sat on her couch. “Come here.” He motioned for her to come to him. Obviously it was a bit of a shock with how gentle he had been all night and considerate but she had him horny now, had him wanting more kissing. “Sit.” He didn’t give her a chance to think before pulling her body down on to his, a gasp of air leaving her as he steadied her. “Fuck the brownies. You wanted my mouth, didn’t you? S’why you were staring the whole time.” He had hold of her chin so he was in control for the time being.
Y/N was like a fish out of water. Her eyes were wide, mouth opening and closing, but she was at a loss for words. This was new for her, this feeling. It was like an adrenaline rush. The tone of his voice was forceful yet gentle, she didn’t feel like he was being pushy or anything just... dominant. Her body shuddered, goosebumps covering her skin as she swallowed thickly, eyes searching his.
“Wanted to at least offer, didn’t want to be pushy..” She murmured, clearly not understanding fully where this demeanor was coming from. It was safe to say Y/N didn’t know much about sex besides the vanilla stuff. Sex, oral sex, basic kinks, but nothing like this. To her, it was completely new and unheard of.
“You’re so cute.” He chuckled, noticing that Y/N obviously wasn’t used to this type of thing. “Got so much to teach you, little bunny. So much to show you.” He licked over his lips as he moved his hand up and cupped the side of her neck. “S’okay to be pushy for something you’d like when it’s wanted just as bad by the other person.” He could feel her pulse in her neck where his thumb rested. “But for now, let’s just kiss a little bit.” He knew that if she wanted to push it further than that he would have to tell her he was a little kinky and liked to be called daddy. Tell her that he liked to go hard. He knew that could slip. “Come on.” He murmured, pressing his lips back to hers and leaned back into the couch. It was all it took to have her melting into his body, arms going back around his shoulders.
Her heart was definitely beating very fast from just how bold he was being. Not only was he courting her, but he was also taking control? It had her heart going. He did say she had a lot to learn, but what could she possibly be missing? She let out a little hum when their lips connected, feeling those butterflies return. Y/N definitely was enjoying how smooth he was, how easy it was for him to control the pace of the kiss. She also liked his hands, she found them to be warm and strong and that was getting her brain going to mush as well. His mouth was like paradise, she kept making these little sounds she didn’t even know she could make.
Harry decided to take things into his own hands when he received enough positive reactions. He picked her up in his lap and shifted her himself. He wanted her a certain place, pressed up against him the most she could be. Harry was needy for her attention and he could be man enough to admit it. His hand ran over her back, moving her hair out of her face when it came back up. Their kisses were deep and he could taste her all through his mouth. She was just as eager and as needy, even more so. He was controlled, keeping her at back and teasing slightly when he pulled back from kisses to lick at her lip. Her breathing was definitely heavier, a squeak coming from her lips as he picked her up and shifted her on his lap. She was mad at herself for wearing jeans, feeling the fabric stretch. She would much rather be wearing much less clothing, would rather see him in less clothing. He always wore these long sleeves, she wanted to see some skin.
“Your mouth tastes so sweet.” He murmured, leaning in closer. “Stick out your tongue for me?” The first of many tricks, he licked his right over it before gently sucking it into his mouth. It was hot, obviously never done before in this way to her. He held her face with one hand and suckled at it before he released it. He was experimenting, seeing what she truly liked.
Though she whined at his teasing, she was still a very good listener. Y/N let out a breathy whine, her hand tightening on the hair at the nape of his neck to let him know she liked it. She rolled her body up against his, feeling so much better about having left that goddamn pub early. This was so much better. Y/N was on a high, but her body felt that need for touch, a craving. It wasn’t enough. The licking into his mouth was only doing so much, but she liked letting him do as he pleased. He ran his hands down her body and stopped at her ass. The whine she let out against his mouth signaled to him that she definitely liked his hands on her, so he moved to grab her ass. Two handfuls, squeezing. So good, she reacted immediately with a moan against his mouth, Harry using his strength to roll her hips against his cock. He wanted some relief too, and this felt so good.
“Fuck me.” He muttered against her mouth. “You’re so beautiful. Fuck.” He held at her ass, bringing one up to smack it. She let out a yelp and looked at him alarmed, Harry simply chuckling and rubbing the sing through the jeans. “S’a perfect ass. Are you going to let me see it?”
The grinding over his cock was normal, but the smack over her ass? No one had ever done that before. More importantly, why did she like it so much? Y/N let out a strained whine, backing her ass up against the hand that was moving it over and pecked after his lips.
“You want to?” She whispered as she pulled back, pupils blown. Y/N was clearly excited, pulling away from him so that she could stand up and strip out of her jeans. She knew she got prepared for a reason. Thank god. However, she had some plain and classy set on. She didn’t really own any sexy underwear. “This too?” Y/N asked curiously, holding her little white button up at the buttons waiting for him to direct her. She could see that he was hard in his pants, that definitely turned her on even more. She didn’t think she’d be able to hold back.
“Yeah- off. Want all of it off. Let me see what’s mine.” Harry already considered her his. He didn’t really care if it was soon but he knew that there was no way she was going to be let go this easily when he was so fond of her already. When she did remove her clothes, he let out an audible groan. Moving closer and kissing over her bare stomach, standing up to kiss over her chest. Harry tugged and placed her hands at his belt, “Take care of this.” He requested, continuing his kissing over her chest. “Perfect tits too. How did I get the whole package, hm? How did I get so lucky?” His hands ran over her body as he felt her throw his belt to the floor and his pants unbuttoned. He stepped out of them; simply grabbing her hips and picking her up so she wrapped her legs around his waist. “Which way?” He demanded an answer. “Want to lay you out for me so I can touch.”
“End of the hall.” Y/N breathed out, knowing that this was really going to be it. She was positive that he had a lot more to show her than she realized. Their little make-out on the couch was way more involved than any other one she’d had before. Her cunt was practically throbbing for him. Thank god for her big bed too. They’d have plenty of room to do whatever the fuck they wanted, and by the look on Harry’s face they’d be in for a very wild ride.
Harry had her on the bed easily, stripping his shirt off and over his head as soon as he could. He almost felt predator-like, stalking up on the bed and between her legs so he could hover over her, kissing from the top of her panties, making his way over to her mouth again. He was taking risks here and he didn’t care. His hand cupped over her pussy, feeling the slickness through the panties. The heel of his hand rubbed against her clit, making her buck into his hand. God, Harry missed making a woman cum-- however, Y/N would be a brand new and better experience.
“Feels good on your cunt, yeah? Were you sitting in that booth across from me with your pussy all messy like this?”
“Yes.” She squeaked, her body was reacting rather well to his touches. She was hungry for his mouth, her hand going up to cup his cheek as they kissed but slowly moved to the back of his head. His words surprised her, a whine leaving her lips. Y/N was so eager to touch. Her leg hooked around his, bringing him closer without speaking. It was something that she just never really did in bed. Yeah, moans and whatnot, but... she was often quiet in bed and asked for what she wanted without using her words. Harry was hot. Maybe the 12 extra years have done him well in the world of sex. He certainly seemed to know what he was doing and the two of them seemed to be starved of intimacy. “Please.”
“Please what, sweetheart?” He cooed. “Gonna need you to ask daddy what you want.” He liked that she shuddered from his words and that she seemed to genuinely be in awe of his touching. She wanted it so bad but had never been with a man like Harry before. “Because I can make you feel so good. I can spend all night making you cum and shake all over this bed. I want to hear you say ‘Please, Daddy, fuck my dirty little cunt.” He smirked wolfishly. Yes, he was pushing her to her limits but she needed it. She was being pushed for the right reasons. “Because as soon as you do, these panties are off and I’ll properly make you cum. You’re about to cum from this but, I can stop.” He paused just movement and looked at her desperate face.
She was a squirmy mess beneath him and he was definitely wanting to push her boundaries. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to, she definitely did, her eyes darkened whenever he had brought up something new and exciting she had never done before. It was clear that she was a bit shy and nervous, blushing deeply when he asked her to tell him what she wanted.
He wanted her to say those 7 words.
Y/N whimpered when he pulled his hand away from her, her mouth opening to speak but she was too nervous to see it. It really wasn’t like her, but she knew that it would make him happy if she did. She was just very conflicted. Being adventurous in bed was new for her, even if it seemed so simple for him, she really hoped he understood that especially by the look on her face. Her body was aching for him to touch, but he wasn’t giving it to her and she was growing increasingly frustrated. It took her a few moments, some encouragement, but she had finally said the words.
“Please, Daddy... I want you to, fuck my dirty little cunt.” The words felt so foreign.
“There’s my girl.” He cooed, taking the panties off in one fell swoop. She had done what was asked of her so she would be rewarded. One finger was slid inside of her cunt. Hot, wet walls clenched tightly around him as he began to thrust it into her. “Fuck me... you’re so tight.” He breathed against her cheek. He didn’t know how long he could last not being inside of her. All he wanted was to slide in and give Y/N every bit of his cock. “So messy too. Hit the gold mine of cunt, haven’t I baby?” He murmured, adding another finger before fucking it faster into her pussy. He wanted one orgasm before he did so and it wouldn’t be difficult based off of her squirming. “Want to hear you. Don’t hide what you feel, baby. Tell me about how wet you are. Moan. I want to hear it. Makes me so happy.” He curled his fingers, her hand going to his wrist. He pulled it away, placing it on her clit. “Rub yourself.”
The way his fingers so easily slipped into her just said it all. A loud moan escaped her at the feeling of his fingers hitting places she was never able to reach on her own. How could she ever go back to normal after this? She needed him for this now, no one else would do. Having him right in her ear didn’t help either, she was shuddering and whining and moaning left and right but she couldn’t bring herself to speak still. It would take some working at, she definitely needed to be pushed a bit and he was doing a good job at that. He said it made him happy to know, she wanted to make him happy.
“F-feels good...” She breathed, “Want more, please.”
“There you go, baby.” He purred, thrusting his fingers harder into her as he spoke to her. “That’s what I want to see. So wet for me, you see this?” He had her watch as he pulled his fingers out for a moment and how wet and drippy they were before he thrust them back in. “Cum for me so I can fuck you. Come on.” He coaxed, moving up and kissing her deeply, pulling back only to pepper kisses to her chest. His fingers worked steadily and fucked her at a fast pace to work at her. “Cum for daddy, Y/N. M’gonna fill you up and stretch you proper as soon as you do. Rub your little clit, you’re so close. I can feel you.” She was so close.
It was overwhelming-- his praises, his fingers, his kisses, his encouragement. It all sent her into a crash of an orgasm. Her body was shaking, twitching as she continued to kiss him. Moans flowed into his mouth, her breath being caught in her throat from just how good it felt.
“D-daddy...” She whimpered out, knowing he’d like that. Y/N was trying for him because that was definitely the most incredible orgasm she had ever had. Y/N couldn’t stop kissing him, even when he had pulled his fingers out of her. “I-I never had two...” Y/N wanted him inside of her, wanted to feel full, but she’d never had more than one orgasm in a row. She wasn’t sure if her body even let her do that. Y/N didn’t want to fake it either. He would be understanding she was sure, but she had to warn him anyway.
“Better get used to having a lot with me. So many orgasms, you’re going to be spoiled rotten.” He would treat this woman with the most care and need he ever had with anyone and she would see it. He brought his fingers to his mouth, sucking them clean. It tasted so good, the moment it touched his tongue he was groaning deep in his throat. “So sweet. Gonna have to lick your pretty pussy up soon. But I need to fuck you.” They both needed his cock inside of her. “Trust me. M’gonna get you there.” He laughed softly at her concern but he had made a few women have multiple orgasms in his day. She was especially sensitive too and didn’t know it. He would have fun with her. “S’gonna sting a little. You’re small.” Her cunt was small and his cock was far bigger than his fingers, so he took his time easing himself into her. Panting slightly at just how good it felt, her walls throbbing around him and how she squirmed under him and held on to his forearms tightly. “Shhh, baby. S’good. You’re alright.”
“So big..” She murmured, feeling herself make a mess around him the more and more he spoke into her ear. She was a very big fan of dirty talk. Feeling him slowly slide into her felt even more satisfying. Her breathing was heavy, her whines constant with every time he pushed into her. “Just fuck me, please.” She asked, nuzzling her face into his neck because she really couldn’t wait anymore. Y/N was gagging for it, she was ready to feel him stretch her out and have him have a proper go at her. He responded to her request by thrusting all the way in. Her sounds appealed to him so much, he pulled out and thrust back in again. Slow, hard thrusts. Getting a noise from her and her nails diffing into his back with each hard fuck into her.
“Yes... love this pussy. So fucking tight.” Was this how all young pussy felt? He swore she was the tightest he had ever had, even at her age. She was incredible. Giving him everything he wanted without even trying. “That’s my girl. Taking my cock in you so well.” There was no protection and that in itself only made him more aroused. He was taking the woman he wanted to be his, bare. “This is what you wanted, hm? Wanted my big cock inside of your little pussy?” He sped up his thrusts so it was at a steady level, and they could hear how wet she was with each thrust. “Can you hear that? How soaked you are around my cock? It feels so good to have your pussy suckin’ in me like that. Trying to milk me hm?”
“Oh—“
There wasn’t much else she could really do. Y/N was full of cock, her mouth wide open and back arching slightly up from the bed. She swore she’d never felt that place inside of her before but it felt fucking incredible. Strings of ‘uh’s and ‘ah’s and ‘daddy’s left her mouth, unable to really catch a breath. He was relentless and she was thankful for it, that coil in her stomach was returning. It was sensitive and a tad bit painful, but she was starting to think she liked the pain. After that little spank earlier, Y/N had realized just how much she wanted to feel it again. Especially when he was stretching her out so well. Y/N knew she wouldn’t last long, it had been a while and she was so incredibly worked up. He could whisper a few more words in her ear and she’d be losing her mind all over him.
“C’mon baby. Give me that cum. M’not done with you yet, no... gonna pull you up and fuck you on your knees. Want to watch your ass bounce while I fuck you hard.” He smirked as she looked at him with glassy eyes, already a mess under him. “Give it time me, baby. So close, I can feel it so close for me. Give daddy that cream.” He purred, snapping his hips harder. He wasn’t going too fast. He was saving that. While her mouth was open, Harry grabbed her chin. The other hand kept him up, her breathing chippy. “Tongue.” He ordered Y/N morning and nodded her head before exposing it to him. Leaning closer, he spit thickly on her tongue, grinding his hips into her. “Swallow it. Cum.”
Her eyes practically crossed as she swallowed his spit, feeling incredibly dirty but that was the best part of it. She felt like she could do all of it with him and he wouldn’t judge, he just wanted her to be dirty and take it. That was incredibly attractive to her. Y/N felt her breath catch in her throat, unable to inform him that she was about to cum. Instead, her orgasm ripped through her with a loud scream, his cock still working into her cashing small squeaks to follow suit. She was very sensitive. Looking up at him, he really didn’t seem like he was done and she knew that she just needed to let her walls down or she wouldn’t last. He flipped her around and pulled her to sit up by the hair, panting as she leaned back to look at him. He slid his cock back inside of her, thrusting up into her much deeper this time.
“Oh my god!” She screamed, “holy— daddy!” Y/N was positive she had passed away.
He had gotten her on her hands and knees. She had cum twice already but he was going for three times. This is when he let loose, knowing she was sensitive and would cum again no doubt. Holding one hand on her hair, the other on her waist. He pounded into her. Hard. The bed shook, Harry groaning in relief. This was the fuck he wanted tonight. He wanted to wreck her for anyone else. Know that she would want him so badly and no one else.
“Yes, yes... my good girl.” He smacked her ass hard, feeling her clench around him harder. “Like them, hm? Like daddy spanking, your perfect ass.” He rewarded her with another spanking, pulling her up slightly by the hair so she had a bite of pain. He was experimenting and letting loose on her pussy. Fucking it hard. Taking what was his.
Y/N was gripping at the bed sheets for dear life, her whole body buzzing with hormones and dopamine. She felt a rush she had never felt before and it was all because of him. She had never been fucked so hard in her life, but she took it like a champ, feeling her eyes rolling back in pleasure every-time he hit extra deep. She even caught herself throwing it back into him, wanting more and more. She had completely let go, letting him use her in any way that he wanted. Y/N was just following orders, speaking when spoken too, and letting herself ride the waves of pleasure. More whines followed his spankings, a happy sigh leaving her mouth as well.
“Like it so much.” She told him, whimpering because yet again she was so close. Her pussy was fucked out, dripping wet, but she still wanted one more. “Fuck, fuck, fuck—“
“That’s what I want. Want you to take my cock in your filthy little pussy and let daddy take care of you. Gonna cum three times for me, hm?” He smirked, taking his hand to her throat to pull her up properly, back arched and hardy slammed into her hard. “This is my pussy now. Daddy’s perfect cunt. Gonna feel it all day tomorrow and remember who filled you up, who made you cum so many times.” He smirked, nibbling on her ear. “Because it’s mine. Made for my cock only.” He pushed her back down and grabbed her hair again, the sounds of her ass smacking against him and her moans filling the air. “Give it to me. Give me all that dirty shit baby girl. Gonna cum again on my cock? Slick me up more? Then let me cum in you?” He teased. “Yeah... s’exactly what daddy’s pretty girl is gonna do.”
Y/N felt herself tearing up at the pleasure, moaning out in ecstasy as he pulled and grabbed at her. She never knew that being manhandled like this would be so pleasing to her, but it had come to her attention that maybe everything she had come to know about herself should be questioned. Harry has claimed her now and she honestly wasn’t sure if it was just the sex talk or real-life talk, however, she wouldn’t be able to stop thinking about this. She would want this all the time, for him to teach her more, she wanted to speak more during sex and all that.
“I-I’m—“ Just like that, she was orgasming for the third time that evening and she was loving it. Her body just let her keep going and going and if she wasn’t so tired she’d let him keep going. Y/N was a bit loopy now, throat hoarse from all the screaming. It felt good though... fucking incredibly actually. She felt free.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck. Baby..” He hissed as he came, burying himself deep and cumming hard. It was the hardest he had ever cum in his life, shaking slightly as he pressed kisses to her back, grinding himself in as he pumped her full. “That’s my girl... so good. Did so well. Love how you feel. My pretty bunny.” He whispered, holding her close to his body as they both went through their orgasms. She was weak and he knew that, Harry moving them so they were spooning. He didn’t want to pull out just yet. “You okay, sweetheart?”
“Mhm...” She hummed, taking his hand and bringing it up to her face. Y/N felt her eyes getting droopy, though all she really wanted was a cuddle from Harry and maybe a few more kisses. She pressed soft kisses to his skin, nuzzling into it so she could get comfortable. “Feel good..” She mumbled, already starting to doze off to sleep. “Stay?”
Y/N wasn’t really used to guys staying after but temporarily forgot that Harry wasn’t just some guy she was hooking up with. He had taken her out on a lovely date... he wanted to spend time with her and the sex was just extra. That’s what made her feel every better in her post-orgasmic state, feeling herself drift off knowing that she had finally gotten Harry. A whole year of wishing and hoping, and here he was.

Making Amends: Part Two
Pairing: husband BangChan x female reader
Genre: slight angst, fluff
Word count: 2.2k+
Warning(s): none
At work, your boss realized how distracted you were. “Y/N, are you okay?” she asked, snapping you back to reality. “Huh? Oh… yeah I’m doing okay, just a bit deep in thought.” She stared at you with worried eyes. “It doesn’t seem like it. Look, why don’t you go home and get some rest for a few days while I work on the rest of the project, okay?” “What? No, it’s okay-I’m completely capable of completing the project, don’t worry, I-” “Y/N… you’re my hardest working employee. I’m sure it’ll be fine if you take some time off, okay? Why don’t you go home and stay with your kids for a bit and see how it goes. Maybe spend some time with them while they’re still small, hmm?”
She was right. You’d been so caught up in this project, you barely slept, ate, nor spent much time with children anymore. You thought the project was only going to last for a bit, but that was never the case with any project at work. “Are you sure?” you guiltily asked. “Yes, I’m sure! Now go! Enjoy the rest of your day off, hun!” As she shooed you out of the office, you walked out into the street and realized that you didn’t even remember how to have fun. You planned a small date for you and your kids. They for sure were going to have fun with you today. You were going to make memories they’d never forget.
After picking up the kids from Changbin’s house, you surprised them by going to the park near the house. It had been so long since you’d brought them here. It felt like a million years had gone by already. The three of you ate ice cream, played lava monster on the playground, and ate dinner together. The day was set as a memory you’d never forget. When the three of you got home later that evening, you saw that Chan’s car was in the driveway. It was weird that he was home so early. You weren’t displeased, but from the last conversation you both had, you weren’t so happy either. Either way, you inhaled deeply and went into the house.
Chan was sitting on the couch when the three of you trudged your way in. Aris and Eli both dropped their backpacks on the ground and ran over to Chan. “Daddy!!!” they screamed as they attempted to climb onto Chan’s lap. “Hi kiddos,” he said while grabbing them both and placing them on his lap. “Daddy, guess what mommy and us did today??” Aris asked Chan. “What is it? What did you and mommy do, hmm?” Eli cut his sister short as he started exaggerating every detail of the day. They were both so busy entertaining Chan that they forgot you were still standing by the door just watching them explain things to their dad.
Before the story could get any crazier, you decided to let them both know that it was time for bed, and that they needed to sleep so that they could wake up and go to uncle Binnie’s house tomorrow. “Awwww but I wanna stay up with you and daddy!!!” Aris complained while pouting. “Yeah!! You said we could do anything we want today!!” Eli chimed in tune with his sister. “Now, you both know how mommy is when she gets mad, you two. Why don’t you go shower tonight, and we can all ready a book together tonight, hmm?” Chan explained calmly to them. With a loud gasp, Aris said, “Can we read about the warriors who slay the dragon??!!!” “Noooo!!! I want to read about Cinderella,” Eli retorted. It was literally as if Aris was the brother and Eli was the sister from the way they both acted. It was too adorable. Chuckling, Chan obliged to read both stories to them. Running away happily, they took their bags from your hands and got ready to shower and end the day.
When the kids had finished showering, Chan laid in bed with them-both books in his hands. He really was going to read both books, wasn’t he? You just stood at the door watching your children smile while they laid across Chan’s lap. “Mommy?” Eli said interrupting your thoughts. “What is it, baby?” “Can you come lay with us?” Surprised, you stood awkwardly at the foot of the bed, looking at where to join the children and Chan on the bed without actually being near Chan. “Come on, mommyyyy, I want to get the story started!” Eli complained while you stood there-still looking like an idiot. “Mommy, just sleep by daddy!” Aris demanded while making some room by Chan on the bed.
Not wanting to waste any more time, you walked over to the side of the bed and joined Chan under the covers while the kids shifted their way around the two of you. It was awkward, to say the least. You were still struggling on how to sit next to Chan but could only lean back towards the wall behind you. It was the most uncomfortable feeling ever. The four of you sitting in your daughter’s small bed trying to find space just to read a simple bedtime story. “Mommyyy! Can you move, please? I don’t have any space,” Aris complained beside you. “Well mommy doesn’t have any space either, baby. Why don’t you sit on my lap, hmm?” “No, I don’t want to mommy. Why don’t you just lay on daddy’s shoulder like you always do?” The most awkward tension had been brought back by your sassy five-year-old daughter.
So it was true-toddlers were probably worse than teenagers because of their unruly filter. All that time, Chan just sat there laughing and giggling to himself under his breath with Eli. He truly did know how to get under your skin. Especially since you were both still not speaking to each other than about the kids. You shot a glare at Chan while adjusting yourself to compromise with your daughter.
It was hard getting intimate with Chan-even just putting your head on his shoulder. It had been so long since you’d both been intimate-whether it be holding hands or even making love. It just wasn’t there anymore. You missed it, to be honest. It was the hardest thing to admit. You wanted to be independent, show that you were tough, but all you wanted in all honesty was for Chan to hold you. You missed the way he would caress your body, the way he would kiss every inch of your body, make you feel his love through his actions, whisper sweet nothings in your ears, tell you how beautiful you were regardless of anything you thought of yourself. You missed those days. The days when you were both able to enjoy small moments together. “Are you comfortable, babe?” Chan asked, bringing you back to reality. Shocked by his sudden words, you whispered a simple yes without looking at him and you laid your head on his shoulder. “Okay, let’s begin, shall we?” Chan asked the kids as he opened your daughter’s favorite book. “Once upon a time, there were three kingdoms…” that was the last you’d heard while you could keep your eyes open.
The next thing you knew, you were waking up in your bed with Chan’s arms around your waist. He must’ve brought you to the bedroom after he read the books to the kids. Pulling his arms off you, you walked toward the bathroom to get ready for work. It was hard holding a grudge against Chan at times. Times where moments were so sweet and loving like last night. But one moment wouldn’t fix that. One moment can’t fix the lonely nights you cried in bed alone and cold. One moment can’t fix the many times you’d had to tell friends and family that Chan was busy at work while you were at family functions he promised he’d show up to. It had been going on for long enough. You did want to forgive him, but forgiveness had to come with change; that was the only compromise you’d ever needed from Chan. Regardless, you were going to try and make this work once you finished your unfinished project at work. There was too much at stake to lose the deal you were close to closing.
Dropping off the kids at Changbin’s house went smoothly and arriving at work seemed less stressful than previous weeks. Maybe your boss was right taking a day off definitely helped. “What are you doing here, Y/N?” you heard your boss’s voice behind you. “What do you mean what am I doing here? I’m here to work,” you said nonchalantly to your boss as she followed you into your office. “Y/N… when I said take some time off, I didn’t mean only half a day.” “…What do you mean?” you asked. “I meant take a few days off, Y/N. I can’t make my most hardworking employee burn out!” “But the project-I can’t just-” Taking the paperwork out of your hands, your boss quietly said to you, “it’s about time you and your hubby go on vacation, yeah?”
Vacation. That word was so foreign to you. It was so long ago since you’ve been on vacation. “I don’t think vacation’s a great idea since we’re trying to land this deal…” you said while trying to snatch the paperwork back. “Noooo… you do realize that they agreed to the deal, right?” “They did?!” “Yeah, they did. I don’t know how they came to a conclusion to work with us, but here we are.” “Wow… that makes me feel so much easier now,” you said while sitting down. “Good. So that means that I have to kick you out of this building just so you’ll take time off, right?” she asked as she grabbed your purse. “What? No, I need to-” “Ah! No. If you don’t listen to what I have to say, that means I’ll have to fire you just so you’ll stop living here, right?” “I mean…” “No-that’s what I thought. Please, Y/N, you need to leave this place for just a few days, okay?” “Please go home and rest while you can before we have to close another deal, okay?” She rushed you out of the office and blew a kiss before choosing the lobby floor for you in the elevator.
You couldn’t even catch sight of what was happening-just that your boss had given you the next few days off. Sounded good, though, since you needed it and wanted to catch up on a few projects back at home. You texted Changbin’s wife asking if they could keep the kids until the same time so that you could run some errands. With a sweet reply, she said yes.
Pulling into the garage, you saw that Chan’s car was still parked in the garage. Did he not go to work? Either way, you still didn’t want to talk about the situation with Chan. It was like you were both walking on eggshells- not just around the kids, but it you were both struggling to find a middle ground. It’s not like you were trying to make a point by not apologizing… okay maybe it was a bit of pride, but you also felt that Chan should’ve been more helpful as a husband and father.
Opening the door to your house, you saw that there were packed suitcases in the living room. Why were there suitcases? Was Chan leaving you? Was it the nightmare you wished would never happen? It made your stomach drop. No matter how independent you were, in this marriage, it only worked as a codependent relationship. Not only that, but as parents, it would be easier to work together in one home than in two-in most cases. Was Chan falling out of love with you? Was Chan going to leave you alone? Were you really going to be the single mother you’d always felt you’d been for the past few months?
As those thoughts were running through your mind, Chan walked into the room. “Hey, babe… let’s go.” “Go where?” you asked. “We’re gonna miss our flight.” “Our flight? What do you mean? I still have work, and the kids-” “I’ll explain on the way to the airport-” Chan said as he pulled you back into the garage and into his car along with the suitcases. On the car ride to the airport, you couldn’t help but ask so many questions. Where were the kids? Where were you guys going? What happened? Chan answered the questions with simple yet vague answers. It wasn’t helping your frantic mind at all.
Boarding the private jet, you weren’t ready to go anywhere-you were just worried about your babies. You knew you left them with Changbin and his wife, but you didn’t get to say goodbye before leaving to whatever destination Chan had been rushing you to go to. Taking a seat on the jet, you opened your mouth to ask Chan another question, but were hushed with his stern voice saying for you not to worry, and that you needed to get some rest before arriving at the destination. Furious at the vagueness of his answers, you turned toward the window and stared at the sky as the jet took off.

Bittersweet. That’s the closest word I can think of to describe this, and it still doesn’t come close. Is there even a word for when you’re simultaneously experiencing what you most dreaded alongside what you most hoped for? And on your birthday, too? And with a belly full of Indian food? Is this heartburn or heartbreak? My close friend, whom I love dearly & haven’t told, remembered my birthday this year, bought me dinner & plans on picking up a gift for me. I wrote last year about how they forgot my birthday & didn’t do anything, though they seemed to remember all their other friends. So this was such a treat—I’ve felt more valued by them lately, and I started thinking seriously about telling them how I feel. My thoughts ran away into the possibility of reciprocation, of a new stage of the friendship that didn’t have to be so conventional. I could hold their hand or they could rest their head on my shoulder, and we could just be together. I was going to do a trial run & tell them that I missed them while we were away this past week (a big deal for me, since I’ve had that unreciprocated before). But while they were away, they met someone.
And I knew this was a real possibility, that they would develop romantic feelings for someone, and that it would be the beginning of the end of all my silly hopes of reciprocation, of finding someone else like me, and probably the fading of our friendship as they dedicate more time to their partner and the couple-friends who will include them in more things now and maybe even their moving away entirely. I’m getting ahead of myself, of course. They’re literally just ~talking~, nothing formalized yet, and it’s long distance, and it’s only been a week. But I can tell the other person is serious, and I know my friend would reciprocate. And I’m hearing about this in person for the first time at my birthday dinner with them that I’ve wanted so much. They’re snapchatting during dinner, but then my friend ends it by saying they’re at a birthday dinner with a friend. But we talked about this person the whole evening anyway. Feeling special and devastated at the same exact time, like having the lining of my heart ripped out. I just feel torn in half. Wanting to be happy for them, or at least look happy, because they’re happy, but the sadness is cracking through, and it keeps breaking over and over like waves. I don’t know how well I did—I was fighting off indigestion, too. I’m too old to be eating spicy food and grieving at the same time.
And then I think, wow, maybe I had a chance, if I had just taken the chance & been more forward before all this, like this person was. But I was, from the beginning, very proactive, in the same ways. I pursued. But there’s no easy framework to fall into like “dating” when you love someone platonically. Here, it’s super simple for them. Show interest, increase contact, formalize relationship. Even if I had the perfect language to express my feelings, I’d still have to blaze a whole new trail for someone who, even if they reciprocated, may not want the difficulty of being a trailblazer. The appeal, I think, of this potential partner is the ease of it—this person is serving themselves up on a silver platter for a relationship. They just clicked, I think, like my friend and I did originally. But my friend actually wants a romantic relationship, and they could have one with this person.
They dropped me off at my place after dinner. They lingered in the exit lane for their place, and I thought for a second they were going to take me back to their place to hang out more since it was somewhat early, but they didn’t. I thought they might want to talk longer in the car, but they didn’t. They told me they were going to pick up a present for me this week, and there comes the joy erupting like lava, and then hardening immediately as I remind myself they’re probably leaving because they’re anticipating a FaceTime with this other person. I went ahead & told them I had missed them this week, and they said, “awww!” & that they’d wished they could’ve called me more this past week (to talk about the situation with this person). It’s almost unbearable—I want to feel just one thing, even the deep sadness, not this marbled, chimeric torment. I’m feeling more valued as a friend than ever, but should I risk losing this friendship now by telling them how I feel when I know they can’t possibly reciprocate? Should I go out in a blaze of glory & emotional honesty instead of waiting to be slowly, painfully pushed aside? There may come a time when I have to tell them why I can’t be fully happy for them. Everyone else they’ve told is genuinely excited, and not being able to cover that difference alone may facilitate my journey to the periphery of their life.

58?
[prompt list - “Wow, you are a terrible liar.”]
It’s the second date Dean has been on this week, and he’s honestly not sure why he even bothers. You should put yourself out there more, Charlie said. My bestie deserves some lovin’, Charlie said. Sign up for Tinder or something, Charlie said.
Except it feels like Dean is the only cecaelia around in Kerrville, or at least there aren’t any single Prince (or Princess) Charming cecaelia waiting for a bi dude with a GED who has seen Firefly far too many times.
Date number two isn’t as bad as the chick from his first date, but he’s not great, either, and Dean just has a feeling that sits a little gross under his skin.
In a lull between appetizer and meal, Dean says, “So. How much octo porn do you watch?”
Number two shrugs and waves his hand in a vague gesture. “I’ve seen a video or two.”
“Wow. You are a terrible liar.” Dean digs out his wallet and drops a couple bills on the table. “It’s been fun, but I better get home.”
“Wait —”
“Have a good one,” Dean says, tone leaving no room for response, and then he glides out to his car alone.
He promised Charlie he would go on at least three dates, so here he is, waiting at a burger place for Number Three, who looked a little awkward in his pictures but seemed nice enough, and he didn’t mention Dean being a cecaelia at all.
Shit. What if he doesn’t know? It’s pretty obvious in Dean’s photos, but still — he’s way too fucking tired to deal with a date shocked to find out he’s not human.
Cas isn’t shocked. His smile is small but genuine and his handshake is firm. Dean appreciates that he doesn’t try for an awkward hug with someone he hasn’t said two words to yet.
Cas turns out to be smart and funny and just overall the kind of guy that is way out of Dean’s league, but Dean does his best to keep up, to be charming, to keep Cas laughing, and he thinks he’s doing an ok job, up until he realizes Cas has been staring at the tentacle wrapped around Dean’s beer bottle.
“So, uh,” Dean says, trying for his usual bluster. “How much octo porn do you watch?”
Cas’s eyes jerk to Dean’s face. “I’m not big on porn, really. Is that a problem?” He’s not lying.
“You’re staring,” Dean says.
“I apologize. That’s very rude of me. I was just thinking about non-verbal communication and wondering if a human could truly learn a cecaelia’s, or if I would always be a stranger in a strange land.”
Dean snorts. “Interesting reference. Wouldn’t I be the stranger?”
“Is that how you think of yourself?” Cas says, tilting his head to the side and squinting across the table.
“Dude, the book is about a guy raised by aliens coming to Earth. Which one of us is the alien?”
Cas shrugs. “The point stands. I understand my cat’s body language, but I worry that I wouldn’t ever be able to understand the full complexity of — that, for example,” he says, gesturing at Dean’s tentacle, which has gone from teal-tinged with the happiness of a good date to lava-black with tension. “I struggle enough with humans.”
“You think about this kind of shit a lot?”
“Not this specifically, but I’ve been told I overthink many things.”
“You’re kinda cute,” Dean says, smiling.
Cas flushes pink and looks down at the table. “Thank you.”
“You thinkin’ about a second date?”
“I would love to.”
“You thinkin’ about trying for a kiss when we leave here?”
“If you would be receptive.”
Dean grins. “I can’t wait.”

One the angsty prompt ideas I’ve been thinking about is Kells practicing how to cook for weeks so he can surprise Em by cooking him dinner, maybe for an anniversary or something, and on the day Kells has planned to surprise him, Em is hours late, leaving Kells alone for the evening. If you’re interested maybe you could write something like this? 🥰
3 years together. One thousand and ninety five fucking days between him and this old dorky man.
It's insane. Downright impossible to believe but Colson knows it's as real and true as the 2 year sobriety chip he's got hung around his neck on the gold chain Marshall gifted him with it this morning.
Both their relationship and his sobriety are as intertwined as their lives are now. Marshall's like the glue that holds all of his pieces together. Picking Colson back up, time and time again whenever he shattered in the beginning and filling in the gaps with his own loose pieces until it was Colson's turn to do the same. Which, by then, it only made sense to combine their puzzles and broaden the picture.
Now Marshall swoops in for Casie's PTA meetings he can’t make during tour. Holding the phone and helping him FaceTime for soccer games and school conferences when flight delays or bad luck keeps him late.
Colson tags along to Whitney's first few dates out in LA, weaving through the public spaces Marshall never could without drawing attention just to make sure she's safe and respected.
They tag team any situation involving the girls, even though Alaina and Hailey both still snicker at him from time to time, and Casie rolls her eyes at Marshall's rules. They're more than just dating now.
They're family.
And even just thinking about that brings tears to Colson's eyes.
Or maybe it's the onions. Baze said chewing gum helped mitigate this fucking problem but goddammit does it burn-
"Fuck!"
He has no idea how he got it in his mind that he could actually cook a meal, let alone a full anniversary dinner for Marshall but here he is. A pot and pan already cooking on the stove and his fingers knicked a dozen times in his rush to cut up more veggies for the sauce.
It's insane.
But Colson's following through with it anyway, because he fucking loves Marshall and that bastard cooks dinner for them every single holiday or occasion so it's about time he stepped up to the plate and did it himself.
Plus he's been secretly practicing for weeks with Baze over both FaceTime and a few in person lessons. Perfecting his simmering styles and meat seasoning to make the tastiest meal he can manage all on his own.
So far the last three times he's made the dish his bassist had given stellar reviews so there's little chance he'll somehow fuck it up tonight knowing it's for Marshall…..at least, he hopes.
The minor setbacks his butchered fingers have brought aside though, so far everything was coming along perfectly. His noodles are boiling (never over the rim, thank you wooden spoon trick), his meats marinating, and as soon as he tosses these sliced onions in his sauce will be cooking down beautifully.
All in all the night is starting to look like it just might be perfect.
Until 6 o'clock passes by and Colson's ears never pick up the click of the front door knob, or the hum of Marshall's escalade pulling up front outside.
The food's still simmering, minutes away from being actually done so he doesn't worry too much. Sure he was hoping to have a sweet moment where his boyfriend comes home and catches him cooking at the stove like a traditional housewife, but seeing his face when the food's done and plated promises to be just as cute.
Besides, Marshall has always fit the housewife role so much better than him anyway. Even the apron Colson's wearing is one of the older rapper's, stolen from his small collection in the pantry to protect his designer sweater.
Colson doesn't start to worry at 6. Traffic can be a bitch.
7 though? And then 7:30 when his texts go unread and his calls ring all the way through to voice-mail? That's when the blonde starts to fret.
He's luckily put off plating because some brief flash on uncertainty had run through him after the food finished so it's stayed warm and simmering on the stove. But even that had to come to an end before 7:30 because his sauce would singe or his noodles might squish, so now Colson's trying to keep busy by perfecting the presentation. Shaky fingers swiping around the edges of Marshall's plate to clean up a splatter of sauce. Every Chopped Judge rambling off feedback in his head until he has it looking like something he's certain even Gordon fucking Ramsey would ask for a bite of.
By 8 the dinner table is set. His plate, Marshall's, the bucket of low alcoholic wine they both love chilling as a centerpiece. Colson even lights a few candles and adds some flowers from this mornings gift exchanges to keep himself from screaming.
There's a pit in his stomach that's steadily been growing though. Every passing minute and glance to his phone where he finds no change only carving it deeper.
Marshall should be home. He never runs this late at the studio without a call, let alone without a message. He's treated his work like any other 9-5 job since before they ever even got together, always strict about his routine and careful to make up for over run hours by leaving earlier the next day. Usually Colson likes to bust his balls and insist he live a little more spontaneously but tonight isn't the one to pull that.
Especially not if it means Marshall's going to completely forget to check his fucking phone and leave him trying not to think the worst.
Colson only males it another 5 minutes before he caves and texts Paul. Fingers tapping fast across his screen to draft multiple desperate sounding messages before he finally settles on a "Em bust his phone again?" That feels just casual enough to not embarrass him in the off chance Marshall decides to burst through the front door seconds after it sends.
The door stays closed though and Paul doesn't open the message at all.
Now Colson can't even start passive aggressively eating dinner on his own if he wanted too. The pit in his stomach has torn itself open wide into a nauseous chasm. Every scary possibility he wanted to avoid thinking about spilling forth from the dark trench like ghouls.
He's dead. Some crazy fan broke into the studio and shot the whole place up. No one's gotten around to tell him yet, that's all. They're too busy dealing with the fallout.
No, Em's security is beyond top tier, and with how close Colson and his current bodyguard are he knows the guy would call him immediately. Marshall's fine.
Unless… what if he was in a car accident? Or some road rage incident gone fatal? Colson's seen Marshall's short temper flare up while driving. They've made dozens of jokes about it in the past, so is it really that unreasonable to believe?
Colson's pacing in the front haul when he calls Porter. Phone tucked between his ear and shoulder while he fights his shoe laces, heart racing in his chest. Prepping to fly out of the house the second Denaun tells him what fucking hospital Marshall's staying in, praying it's at the ICU section and not some fucking morgue.
"Kelly?" The older man sounds confused when he finally answers. Voice high and tone light like he's expecting this to be a butt dial. "What's up man?"
The lack of rush or worry in Denaun's voice almost soothes Colson's panic right on the spot. Surely he wouldn't sound so casual if something had happened.
It's enough to keep Colson from immediately pleading for Marshall's safety at the least. "H-hey, uh nothing really-" Maybe Marshall is even with him right now, realizing how fucking late its gotten and how shit of a boyfriend he's been and that's why Denaun sounds awkward too. "Just uh, waiting for Marsh to get his slow ass home ya know? Sorry, aheh, I'm probably sounding like a fucking needy girlfriend right now, calling his friends and shit-" the longer Colson rambles the more embarrassed he actually feels in the moment.
God he must sound pathetic right now. Panicking over Marshall being a few hours late.
"Waiting? Didn't Marshall head out like 2 hours ago?"
"W-what?"
Colson's blood feels like actual ice in his veins.
"He isn't home? I mean, I know he was gonna stop at- fuck is it already half past 8? Marshall seriously isn't home?" Denaun's sudden panic only heightens Colson's own, but he can't get any more words to come out. Not with how a rock feels like it's jumped up his throat. "Shit, Ryan are you getting through to him? Try Paul-"
Ryan's there too?
"What? Paul's gotta fucking answer-"
They can't get ahold of Paul either?
"Kelly have you-"
Marshall's missing. Colson's been standing around making dinner for hours, worrying over the portion sizes and appearance of his plates and Marshall's been fucking missing. What kind of partner is he? What will he even tell Hailey? Alaina? And fuck Casie is supposed to be coming up this weekend so they can all go vacation together before his next tour-
The front door bumping into his shoe startles Colson out of his frozen panic. Denaun's angry shouting dropping from his ear, as he twists and meets a pair of sheepish blue eyes peeking around the hardwood.
"Hey."
Marshall's…..
"Is that my apron?"
So fucking dead.
"Is this your--" Colson's fingers are curling around the edge of the door so fast he doesn't even care that it makes his phone fly to the floor. "That's what you want to fucking say to me!?" His anger is boiling fast, replacing the cold in his veins with lava. "You fucking piece of-"
Marshall stumbling inside with the yanked door is expected, but the flash of bandages and a sling douse Colson's flames like a bucket of water. "Ow, fuck just give me a second to explain-"
He's hurt.
Now with all of Marshall visible Colson's hyperaware of dry blood splattered on his white graphic tee and scratches partially hidden within the rapper's beard along his cheek. "I got in an accident out on the M-8, it was minor but-"
Colson really can't handle all these rapid mood switches Marshall is putting him through today.
“You fucking idiot-“ Tears are bubbling up in his eyes and it’s like his hands can’t reach his partner fast enough. Pulling Marshall into his arms for a tight hug despite the pained noises his actions inspire. “Stupid, old asshole-“ Marshall’s hurt, the cars probably wrecked, but he’s home and that’s enough of a relief to finally smother that pit weighing down his stomach. “Don’t ever scare me like that again!”
A moment passes before he’s hugged back, shock more than likely freezing his partner up but when Marshall does loop his good arm around Colson he pulls him close. So close Colson is the one who’s bones feel like they might ache. “Can’t make any promises about that,” The older rapper’s palm feels warm when it climbs to cup his neck, Marshall’s face turning to press a kiss into Colson’s throat.
That brush of lips is the final crack to release the flood gates.
"I love you."
"I know."
"I really really fucking love you."
"I know baby."
"I don't care how old your ass is, you better hold out and fucking die after me like a proper goddamn boyfriend, you hear me Marshall?" He's getting snot all over the older rapper's shirt. Full on smearing it across his own cheek and the fabric with every pointless rub of his face. "I love you so fucking much. Can't do this without you."
"Told you I'm not dying after you unless you kill me first, and I'm chasing you into the afterlife once you do go too. Fuck all the marriage shit, death ain't parting us either you brat." Marshall's tone is light and his palm is doing wonders to comfort him by rubbing circles into his back. It's enough to slow his hiccupped breathing down a few notches. "I dunno if you noticed but, I'm a little obsessed with you."
That drags out a wet snort. "Y-yeah?" When Colson pulls back to meet Marshall's eyes he swears he can see a wet shimmer starting to glaze over his partner’s as well. "Prove it then."
There's a flicker of something in blue eyes, so fast that Colson almost thinks he hallucinates the emotion altogether. But then Marshall's wrapped up arm wiggles between their bodies. The dark blue of the sling catching and sliding so his scratched up fist can shimmy its way partially out. "Planned on it-" There's something clutched tight there, black peeking out from between Marshall's finger and thumb. It's got Colson's heart dropping down into his stomach all over again. "What do you think I was driving so late on the M-8 for?"
"Marshall-" It can't be.
"Colson." But his shithead of an accident victim boyfriend is pulling back, both his good arm and slung arm awkwardly flailing in the air for a moment as he drops down on one knee. The visible wince not hidden as well as Colson imagines the man wants it to be. But Marshall's eyes are softening, and the blonde feels completely cemented in place. The only part of him moving being the uncontrollable shaky quiver of his bottom lip. "I had a whole moment planned, there were flowers, balloons, and those stupidly expensive alcoholic chocolates you love, but they all got absolutely trashed in the crash. Like, half of Detroit is probably going to think the Macies Thanksgiving parade started early. Paul called to have it all replaced, and honestly some intern is probably going to come banging on the door in about 20 minutes but I don't want to wait-" There's a flash of genuine worry that's furrowing the skin between Marshall's brows as he continues. "So I'm sorry this isn't gonna be that fancy perfect proposal you've always dreamed of-"
"Shut up." Colson's voice can't go above a whisper. His tone quick and clipped from how anxious he is to hear the man finally finish. "Just- shut up, ask me. Ask me Marsh, please-"
"Fine, always need to rush me."The rapper's lip quirks at the corners. Hands transferring the small box between eachother with a bit of fumbling. "Will you, Colson Baker-" Until Marshall can finally get it open with an audible clunk. "Legally commit to being with my annoying old ass forever?"
