Like, as much as I understand the appreciation for men with long hair nowadays, remember that for many native cultures around the world, men having long hair was or has been the customary norm for centuries.
Hair has long held spiritual and/or ethnical significance for many groups of indigenous people of various cultures since ancient civilizations. For many people of color, long hair doesn't mean or imply femininity at all.

September was a good month for reading ! I've already started on my first October book, Black Leopard Red Wolf. I can tell you right now it's unlike anything I've read before, is dark as heck, and I'm loving it.
I've got three books under my belt for the 23for23 challenge so far, here's to twenty more. 📚🏳️‍🌈👏

"Don't make it political!"
Tumblr media
You know, whne Gundam Witch released last year, there were all these people crying about how "they made it political". Which to someone who actually engages with the stories they consume was obviously painfully ironic. Because... It is Gundam. One of the most political franchises out there, with its anti-war storytelling, that often also dips into anti-capitalist and pro-environmentalist stories. But sure, making a) the main character female and b) gay... That did it, that was what made Gundam political. 🤦‍♂️
And of course, those same constantly whining voices can be heard whenever a movie, series or game has a female main character, BI_PoC main character, queer main character, or disabled main character. Because to the people whining it is unfathomable that someone actually wants to tell a story about some marginalized characters, because it is interesting, and not because "the elite" forces them to.
But here is the thing: Fucking everything is political. Having a white, cishet, abled main character is as political as a Black, trans main character in wheelchair.
The same people will usually whine about stuff like: "Why make the character female/Black/queer/disabled, if it does not even come up in the story." To which I will always reply: "Why make the character male, white, cishet and abled if it does not come up in the story? What does it add to have the same character male, white, cishet and abled?"
The thing, of course, is, that the white, male, cishet, abled character is seen as the norm. Which is why any deviation from this norm is seen as something that cannot happen without a reason. But that is of course just bullshit reasoning. A fictional character has as little reason to be a white cis dude, as they have to be a Black trans woman.
Additionally it should be noted, that there is no apolitical storytelling. Any story you tell will have a political message - intended or not. Even something rather deadbrained like the Fast & Furious movies (and I love those movies for their deadbrainedness) do definitely have political messages in there. As much as it is parodied Dom Toretto's entire: "I do not have friends, I have family" is very much a political message about the value of found family. And of course the entire "We are driving those cars really fast and furious" also says something about the value of traditional male ideals. And I could go through those movies and disect them bit by bit, because yeah, duh, there is politics in any story decision.
Obviously, this whining about stuff being "too political" tends to get most ridiculous in cases, where the brand in question always was political. Like Gundam. But stuff like The Witcher, too, which in its core is very anti-colonialist, anti-racist and pro-feminist.
So, really... I wish people would actually engage with the content of stuff, rather than whine about superficial stuff.

Hey, the name's Mannawa! I'm 21 years old, and I'm an afro-indigenous obeah-person.
I'm making this blog to post about my spiritual journey and to hopefully get to connect with other african spirituality (obeah, hoodoo, vodou, ect) practitioners across the black dispora! I'd also like to connect with other practitioners/witches in general.
I really hope you enjoy my blog! ♡♡

I'm not gonna say names, cause a bunch of you are just friends with the epitome of toxicity out there and you got me freaking tired of your DMs and boring screenshots, and that fake-ass speech about "I'm not into this discussions and drama", except when this affects you.
But, finally yesterday I listened to someone talking about the political aspects of Witchcraft and how much we can do, not like your favorite white ones, who are all the time repeating that #Witchcraft is political and then keep a very convenient silence when something happens to not lose followers and readers, cause of course... Money is more important than actually putting your hands into action, right?
My constant reminder to all, that witchcraft is a path of empowerment historically carried over the shoulders of slaves, women, immigrants (Romanians, Ukranians, German, British, Africans, Caribbeans, etc...) And being pro-diversity is deeper than just highlighting a #blacklivesmatter in your profile to fake your support to the black community.
Also, if "what you do" in pro of diversity, is just to go around as a white hero repeating over and over how cool you are, and at the same time you're being paid for it, you're not doing it for diversity, you're just "supporting" a convenient cause for you.
Have a nice day, the good ones, and the toxic fake-ass ones too ☝🏻

i have something precious i want to share with the world: kindness, hope and unconditional love.
there's so much hatred and apathy in the world right now. so much disgust and repulsion between everyone. if you, like me, are tired of looking at the state of this world -- maybe you can stand up for what's right.
maybe you can empower yourself, heal yourself to be a leader of your own life. maybe you can turn to those who pose challenges in your circles and argue back, fight back, change the world one person at a time.
i believe to heal Nature, to reform society so we treat everyone with respect and kindness, and to progress past capitalism, we need to each change the way we behave and think. on a deep level. we need to nurture a sacrality for not just Nature, but people. everyone. even that bigot you hate. even that radfem that sucks. even that ableist who hurt you.
but to do that, we need to feel safe, comfortable and sacred within ourselves first. we need a community of leftists that are like-minded, and willing to use the arts to promote change and transform the world.
maybe this all sounds too good to be true. maybe you're doubting yourself, or me, and don't want to take any chances. but i'll say one more thing: you are never obligated to do anything.
i'll leave a link a here, just in case this resonated.
