G! J! V! <3
G: A group you wish you could see more of on your dash?
Monsta X! I haven't had the time to dive into mx blogs here but if you have faves/recs let me know ❤️ annnd Twice 👀 edit: TXT!! I'd love to get to know them more too
J: A group you love to jam out to?
BTS, they have so wide range, like I could probably find a song for every emotion 😆 also SKZ, they're their own genre in a way and their songs are so catchy!! I'd recommend them to everyone!
V: The best/sexiest voice in K-pop?
I feel like you read my brain when you chose whis one!!! I scrolled through the questions like hmm now this might be a difficult one... And you sent it to me! Hehe. First of all I can't choose just one, so get ready for a ride (and I can't obviously list everyone...). I also think I'm being very funny so sorry
Short answer: the low one
Yoongi - as you may know the Suga whisper has a hold on me (bc it's sexy af) but his voice as a whole is so good, like his rap has always been one of my faves, his voice is so smooth and the way he delivers the lines ahhh (brainrot) I could probably write an essay but like if you need an example his part in Mic Drop is so good... Also Life Goes On the mm-mm-mm-mmm part, oh and Seesaw!! His vocals 💜💜 haha how could I not list Daechwita? That one part has me in a chokehold and it's not funny. and when he talks and there's this little rasp in his voice and it's so low and I'm on the floor
Changkyun - I AM WHAT I AM listen his voice is everything it's so low and sexy and the way he says his line in Livin' It Up akdjsjjs my brain malfunctioned and I'm obsessed.
Jungkook - listen... Listen like I'm in awe (and also obsessed) how he's singing like an angel and his vocals are so amazing and clear and then suddenly when he speaks it's low?? Especially if he speaks in satoori aljkskkskslsjsl His giggles are everything and this question was about voices (STEP OUT OF THEM VOICEEEEEEESSSS) there's a reason Euphoria is one of my faves and it's because Kook's vocals are amazing and it makes me feel like I'm in my own world
Namjoon - I listened to Ddaeng yesterday and his voiceeeeeeeeeeeeeee it's so hot and brrrr it's also very comforting (see moonchild my beloved) also Persona is very close to my heart like the lyrics and his voice just hit me. my life has not been the same after I heard him talk in his low voice with Tae in that one live like how deep is your voice (I sang that in the tune of How Deep Is Your Love and I'm giggling) anyways mOVING ON
Gotta love how I mentioned my bts bias line here and tbh I could list all of them as best voices but I had to stop myself there
Chan - most of all his voice is comfort, so it's one of the best ones. When he talks it feels like a hug, but then sometimes his voice sounds like I'd want to throw myself against a wall, meaning when he raps, it's just so good idk
Felix!!!! - he was the one who caught my attention because my weird brain was like OH LOW VOICE I HAVE TO LIKE THIS ONE and like true but.... He's so giggly and love shaped and then he growls and his voice is so low and it hits my ears just right aND HIS VOCALS are so great
Honorary mention to Minhyuk because what has he been eating his voice sounds like how silk feels against my fingertips and no I can't explain it in another way
... Did I even answer to the question? I feel like I just rambled all kinds of nonsense
Here have a Minho because you read all this brainrot <3

As for the song itself, I was underwhelmed too. The beat is nice but it’s not distinct enough for me like most of their songs. Most of their title tracks have sounds that I rarely heard before. From firetruck to sticker, most of them has really weird sounding sounds that suck you right into the songs. I recall their songs through their beats as opposed to the melody. That’s also why I think most people can vocalise their beats. They are distinct. I think for me this might be the least 127 sounding title track for me.
The beats is one thing but the rap is also not memorable which is almost never the case with Mark and Taeyong’s rap. I personally only like Jaehyun’s rap. Doyoung line in first verse is really good on its own but it doesn’t flow smoothly from Jungwoo. Honestly, the whole song is like that for me. It’s not connected smoothly. I’ve been listening to this song for more than twenty times already. It’s not getting into my head. I just can’t grasp the construction of this song. This is coming from a person who really like the controversial sticker and chain, so I really think it this is really is just about my personal preference. I conclude it’s just not for me. I’m glad tho that most of the feedbacks online is positive. Still hyped for the rest of the album too.
(Okay i listen to the song again after writing all above . Letting go of all the negative things, just enjoying the song without scrutinising. Honestly, it’s not that as bad as I’ve written above. Ugh why am i like this🥲. I am so set of wanting this comeback to be the next sticker. It clouded my judgement. Lesson learnt. Just let go of expectations, enjoy it and now i’m actually bobbing to it. The same goes to my mv opinion before. I honestly felt like I open the door and let the song in when I let go of my expectations. My brain catch the song pretty fast. Interesting. It was just now I cannot accept the song but once I opened up it instantly clicked? Is there better way to explain this? Being too scrutinising really takes the fun out of everything but i think it’s only a normal reaction when you put expectations on things.) I feel like I’m spamming your ask today sorry T T
2 Baddies is a ear-worm, there are several parts that start to rotate in the mind with ease. The way Haechan and Doyoung sang their first lines is the "distinct" you are looking for.
I do suspect the song was made out of two. It's hard to imagine that the chorus/rap parts and the vocal-line retro parts were thought of by the same person, they are too distinct in colour. I find the song a tad too slow in the beginning, but it has a nice vortex effect in the end, as a viewer/listener you are being pulled in by the speeding up tempo and the synchronised choreo.
I like Mark's rap, he is experienced enough to make it interesting. Agree about Woo-Do transition. It's a very patchy moment. Do's retro moment should have been longer or repeated again. Because the effect from it dissipiates quickly. Again, agree that the song is not connected very well overall. The task was probably very difficult to begin with. I really like the end of the song though, it has a very good build up with nice adlibs and Jaehyun's finishing line (the way he pronounces it) is good.
I think it's a song to tune in and out, that's why it's better as a performance, when the boys and the moves distract you. If you look at it as a whole, pay close attention, the architecture isn't solid, a rough voice transition here, a not smooth switch of tempos there, however it does make you fall for the rhythm and bop your head.
One musician with perfect hearing said he can't listen to orchestras, can't enjoy them, he is distracted with the players making minor mistakes. Once you stopped looking at the song with a magnifying glass, you was able to fall for the primitive urge to follow "the rhythm of drums", to follow the crowd.
"2 baddies, 2 baddies, 1 porsche" is a super stupid phrase with no wit in it, but it's a chant, and Taeyong says to follow him, so you do, heh.
As for the comeback, it's the first one after 2,5 years with live fans on music shows, face to face fanmeets, comeback shows with live singing. So you are lucky. It looks like the comeback would be of small scale promotion wise (depends on what 127 will do in US), but neos themselves are hyped. Tired, but happy. Except maybe for Doyoung who has a burn out and Haechan who is evidently tired from the double shift (he isn't as physically strong as Mark), all others are at the best place mentally and emotionally as they don't need to prove anything anymore, the scandals are in the past, plus the fandom is finally active and united.

NGS2P2 — struggling to shut up
it's time for the interview. honestly, jay has half a mind to keep yapping and yapping until he talks the interviewer's ear off. it feels like a good form of revenge, almost. but he should probably answer the questions properly, at the very least. that doesn't mean he won't keep speaking though, his brain still runs several miles per hour and he doesn't have the ability to halt it at this time. or ever, really.
he can only hope the interviewer knows what they're up against ( or not, because that would make good tv too ).
you didn't seem very happy with your current placement. is there a reason why?
jay scoffs—what a ridiculous question. what is he supposed to say to that? obviously? no shit, captain obvious? it's like they're trying to get jay heated. "yeah, i'm not. but that's not surprising, is it? it's not a very good ranking, all things considered. i would hope i did better, but i guess i didn't. whatever, bygones are bygones. all i can do now is make sure i do better." he lets out a laugh, pointed and sharp. "and what do you know? that's the title of the song we performed."
do you think you did better with this performance then?
"i'd like to think i did, but who knows? i'm not the judge." he doesn't even mean to sound cruel or accusatory, it's just how he speaks. even the camera pointing at him isn't enough to deter him from talking without a filter. but hey, at least he isn't cursing. a win is a win. "i put my all into it, that's what i can say. i danced, i sang, i rapped. it's not easy, anyone here can tell you. but i wanted to make sure people hear; that i'm not just yelling."
how was preparation for the performance?
jay wants to ask a question of his own: what's the point in asking that? realistically, he's aware that these are standard questions to ask those who are contestants in an idol survival show, but he believes they're unnecessary. most of them would have the same answer. won't people get bored? or do they just cut out the boring answers? "kinda funny. saw someone fell though, that wasn't very funny." he actually makes an effort to not sound sarcastic, for once. "it was hard, days and nights go by in a blur. suddenly it's already midnight and i'm still working on the moves. it'll be worth it in the long run, though."
how does it compare to your performance during your audition?
"you mean my proper performance, or the one where i was balancing things on my fingers? i swear, people will only remember me for that now." jay decides to answer the comparison with the former option. "it's not exactly my type of song, but i won't whine about stepping out of my comfort zone. it was fun, i had a blast. is it that surprising if i preferred to perform with a song of my own choice though? i think the other contestants would agree."
what did you find challenging during training?
"a bunch of things." jay doesn't know how to reply, so he just chooses to be annoyingly vague. "it's a pretty short time to practice, not that it's a bad thing. the time constraint makes it feel all the more real. if you're really in it for the right reasons, you'd stay behind and work till your can feel your bones ache." and that's a sentiment he kept throughout the late nights he stayed behind.

“In awe, the first time you realised it” with Mat Barzal please🥺
31. In awe, the first time you realised it
I swear all my favorite things I've written are for barz, this is also so self-indulgent for me bc my love language is playlists
-
You and Mat had been dating for just under a year now, still in the honeymoon phase of your relationship even after a few fights, and he swore you were the only person he would never get tired of. The weekends you spent at his apartment, the Saturday morning markets you always dragged him to, the nights he curled on your couch watching TV while you worked away at the kitchen table, there was no such thing as too much time with you.
The feeling nagged at the back of Mat’s mind, subtle and quiet, a distant voice telling him he was in love with you even if his brain hadn’t completely registered it yet. Your relationship was comfortable. You moved around each other with an ease Mat had never known, as if you’d spent years together and now lived in routines that revolved around the other. He hadn’t even processed how used to being around you he’d gotten until your first summer apart had hit.
He thought about you all the time, wondering whether or not you’d like the outfit he chose when he went out with friends, whether you’d enjoy his mom’s cooking, whether you were thinking about him all the way back in New York when he was in Coquitlam.
By the time fall came back around, he was ready to ask you to move in even if neither of you had said those words yet. Mat just missed you all the time. It didn’t matter how much time you spent apart, he was counting the hours until he saw you again.
It was only when the two of you packed your bags and climbed into his car, ready for a weekend road trip upstate that the overwhelming feeling of how much he loved you hit him. You chose to drive, knowing Mat’s proclivities for driving a little too fast would’ve made you insane during the four hour ride to the secluded cabin he rented. In turn, he got to choose the music, though you made him compromise that he’d split the time between both of your spotifys.
Yours and Mat’s music taste didn’t always mesh well, and while he knew your account and followed it, he never delved into the playlists you curated. At the two hour mark, he unlocked your phone and scrolled through your account, clicking through a few playlists as he tried to find one that he wouldn’t completely hate.
He came across one titled happiness, the playlist photo piquing his curiosity. It was a little further down the list, about halfway through your nearly twenty playlists, and he recognized the picture as his own head. There were no discernible features, only his hair as his head rested on your chest and your fingers curled in the strands, but Mat knew it was him.
One by one, he read over each song in the playlist. The theme seemed all over the place, ranging from slow songs to upbeat pop to hip-hop, and his curiosity got the best of him.
“Babe, what’s this playlist?” He asked, stretching your phone so you could check the screen. You only took a brief glance, noticing the title immediately and shifting your focus back to the road.
“Oh, it’s just a bunch of songs that remind me of you,” you answered with an apathetic shrug. You added the first song a week after you met Mat after your first date when you knew that you wouldn’t be letting him go any time soon.
Mat furrowed his brows, not quite sure what Christmas Eve by Kelly Clarkson or Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye had to do with him, but he pressed shuffle anyways.
The first song that came on was Flightless Bird, American Mouth, and Mat vaguely remembered hearing this before.
“Why’s this one on it?” He asked.
“Remember when I made you watch Twilight even though you complained the entire time? You said you thought this song sounded nice, so I added it,” you explained.
“And Bloom?” Mat questioned, finding another song title he didn’t know.
“It was a song that played in the cafe during our first date.”
“Shoop?”
“That one night we stayed up until three baking brownies because we were drunk and hungry, we sang it, like, four times dancing in the kitchen,” you said.
It turned out every song on the playlist had some underlying meaning as to why you added it. There was the song you first slow danced to at a teammate’s wedding, the song you chose to karaoke to once at a bar, the song Mat always played first thing upon turning on his car for a couple weeks whenever he drove anywhere, songs he found himself singing under his breath while not realizing you were listening, his favorite Taylor Swift songs even though he would publicly claim he didn’t listen to her, songs he went crazy for every time they played in clubs. Every song had a story.
Mat didn’t ask you for the explanation for each one, not wanting to annoy you with his many questions, but he connected the dots soon enough after you told him Green Light by Lorde was on there because of how many times you and Mat had watched through New Girl, but more specifically, the scene where Nick and Jess finally get together.
A few sparked memories in his own head, the Khalid songs you made him listen to the one time you convinced him to get high with you, the Kendrick songs he swore were the best rap songs ever made, even a few Bieber songs you found more tolerable than others since you weren’t a fan of him but Mat was.
The playlist was nearing fifty songs, all recounting moments in your relationship over the past year, and Mat’s chest tightened in a way he’d never felt before.
He was in love with you.
You didn’t even bat an eye explaining the meaning of each song, every story fresh in your mind and you told him each one without hesitation. Had it not been for your eyes on the road, you probably would’ve noticed the tears welling in his eyes, though he quickly brushed them away.
His heart was so full of love for you, how you paid attention to every detail, and there was no doubt in his mind he was in love.
“You good?” You glanced over quickly, curious as to why he was quiet all of a sudden.
“Yeah, I’m good.” He cleared his throat.
“I love you.”
That caught your attention immediately, and you looked back at him, your own eyebrows slightly drawn together in confusion as the outburst.
“Yeah?” You asked. The words had been on the tip of your tongue for so long you could probably trace it back to the first time you met him, but you kept it to yourself. Mat was always cautious with his words, never wanting to say anything he didn’t fully believe, and you didn’t want to scare him off saying it too early.
“Yeah,” he replied confidently. Grabbing the hand resting on the gearshift, he intertwined your fingers and brought it to his lips. “I love you." Gently, Mat kissed your knuckles.
Your own heart felt like bursting at the soft look on his face. “I love you too.”
“Yeah, I kind of figured that,” he chuckled, wide grins spreading across both of your faces.
You brought his knuckles to your own lips, placing a soft kiss on them before letting your joined hands rest across the middle console. The remainder of the drive was silent, neither of you starting a conversation as you let your playlist take you the rest of the way.

haikyuu boyfriends singing pt. 2
a/n: honestly i wrote this as soon as i finished the first part lmao, i had so much fun with these.
includes: ushijima, tendou, iwaizumi, bokuto, osamu
part 1
Tumblr media
ushijima:
honestly prefers to listen to you and he always smiles softly at the little dance moves you do
he’s not super shy with singing but he gets so focuses on you he forget to join sometimes
ngl it makes him fall a little harder every time
but he will join a little during the choruses if he knows the song
his voice is so deep and soothing
he hums absentmindedly if you two are cuddling and it’s the most relaxing thing
the best position is when he’s laying on his back and your head is on his chest as he pulls you close
you can feel the vibrations from within him as he hums and lulls you to sleep
hums you love songs awie
think: cherry wine by hozier
tendou:
this boy is ENERGY ENERGY ENERGY
also one to listen to a pretty wide range of music but so much of his playlists are fast paced songs and general shit that goes hard
can rap? impressively fast? and he doesn’t miss a beat nor run out of breath it’s crazy
he’s also not that much of a broadway fanatic but he still managed to memorize all of hamilton - all two hours and forty-five minutes of it
he listens to select musicals because songs with characters and a story are pretty fun too
such a dork because a good 10% of his brain is just dedicated to anime openings too
the most fun to sing along with because he gets into character and everything - the facial expressions are immaculate
omg he sung you never ever getting rid of me from waitress and it was the sweetest thing ugh
“oh, im gonna love you so!” is his favorite line to belt to you
he was dancing around your kitchen one sunday morning while you made breakfast just serenading you
literally takes your hand to give you a small twirl or maybe he’s just dancing with you in his arms
he loves to see you giggle and smile
his voice is pretty funky, not perfect, but still fun to listen to
i mean have you heard those vocals *baki baki ni OOre*
he tickles right under your chin when he gets close to you, nose scrunching in adoration
iwaizumi:
okay he’ll huff if you try to force him and he’s not really feeling it
he refuses at first a lot of the time
but because it’s you he caves a lot too, he’ll sing every other line while sneaking an arm around your waist
okay but it really gets good if you get him a little drunk because any restraint is gone
you play his favorite song while he’s tipsy? he’s grabbing the mic (if there is one) from you
pls but he also sounds so sAD for some reason - regardless of what song is actually playing
he’s going all out there’s no stopping him
mans sang need you now by lady antebellum and that shit was beyond funny
mans’ voice was HURT as he belted the lyrics
“and i nEED yOU noOOW” he half-wails, one hand clutching yours as his eyes are shut
you managed to get a video and he gets so grumpy when he finds out
his ears are pink and his face has a very visible scowl
mans doesn’t sing in front of you for a month :(
bokuto:
knows every song on the radio, like i swear he doesn’t miss a lyric EVER
his body just bumps to the beat of whatever’s playing
he’ll insert claps and very wild dance moves too lmao
it’s a slight safety hazard but we love the energy
probably the kind to look forward to karaoke - gets the most excited to go up
honestly he’s the life of the party
bo gets a little too emotional with the songs omg
PLS he legit teared up while he was singing once
you turned away for one second and when you looked back, his hair was droopy and his eyes were watery someone hold this baby
the song: total eclipse of the heart by bonnie tyler
really fell apart at “every now and then i fall apart”
you gotta pause the song to ask if he’s okay omg
when the song pauses he totally snaps out of it and wipes away his tears without giving them a second thought
if you play a hype song right after he’s all bouncy again like ???
osamu:
sings better than atsumu and atsumu hates him for it
see it’s because he doesn’t overdo it, he’s pretty casual and he isn’t loud like his twin
he tends to sing if he’s cooking and just lost in his own world
this baby makes small random songs while he’s working
“mix mix mix the egg,” he goes, making your heart swell ugh
even if you catch him he’ll deny he ever did it
but some days you two are in that cute mood while you cook in the kitchen together and you’re both humming and singing random things
he also has a habit of singing steps of cooking to tunes of actual songs or swapping out random lyrics
think- royals by lorde
but instead of “and we’ll never be ROyals” it’ll be “and they’ll never be OMelettes” when he accidentally broke them
it’s so cute and he’ll blush if you tease him, maybe even threaten to not give you any food
but kiss his jaw and he’ll met like putty anyway haha

*****
Tumblr media
You have to admit, you didn't believe it when your friend told you they had front row tickets to a BTS concert. Concert tickets are hard to get, let alone front row seats.
"Thank you!" Your friend said with a smug smile. She happily took the $30 dollars from your bet. You saying they were fake and her insisting they were real.
"Yeah, whatever." You rolled your eyes as the line moved closer to the entrance. The line was long but you and your friend were lucky enough to get soundcheck.
"I'm going to be Jungkook's soulmate, I can feel it." You heard a confident voice say. You wanted to roll your eyes at the adult that bragged her idea to the armys around.
When it comes to the artist you were going to see the only thing fans know is Jin has already found his soulmate but nobody knows their name, let alone what they look like. Other than that people assume the other members just haven't met theirs yet.
It was odd to hear those genuine thoughts. They travel the world and have yet to meet their soulmates from a concert.
Sure, it was a nice thought especially since Jungkook was your bias, but realistically he's probably not your soulmate.
You've imagined more than once what it would be like to meet your soulmate. You secretly hoped it would be somewhere in nature. A park, or on a hike, or over looking a lake. It just seemed like it would be a great experience, to meet the one made for you in beautiful scenery.
However you were probably a little a head of yourself, more than likely you would meet them through work or walking down the street or something minimal like how most people do.
In the blink of an eye, you were in the stadium. You and your friend got settled in your ideal spots close to the stage. Then the two of you fell into an easy conversation.
"So when you go to visit your soon to be mother in law you won't look like a totally idiot for not dressing like the cookie monster-"
"Uh uh oh uh uh ooohh."
Your conversation interrupted by the opening of the first dance number of the night.
"Oh my gosh, it's them! If I faint will you catch me?!" Your best friend asked, dramatically clutching her chest. She stood on her toes to get a better look, as if the front row just wasn't enough.
"No promises!" You shouted with a wide smile at the stadium got louder.
•••••••••••••
The concert was going great! You were having so much fun dancing and singing your heart out with the random people you had met beside you. That song ended and another one began.
When you looked up Jungkook was making his way down the stage with Jimin just behind him. His microphone was raised as he sang the bridge of the song. He turned to your side and looked at the audience. When your eyes locked everything seemed to zoom in on him alone. You got tunnel vision and he was your only focus, just as you were his. He couldn't pull his eyes away from you if he tried.
A sensation of gravity shutting off came next. You felt weightless and could no longer feel the floor below your feet. Then you felt as if you were being pulled, more like yanked, to your new destination. You choose to close your eyes as the motion got to be too much.
Jungkook didn't understand what was going on but he got the feeling that the world around him was spinning. The last thing he wanted to do was alarm the fans but he couldn't help but close his eyes as he stumbled over his own feet.
"Jungkook?" Jimin questioned placing a hand on his left shoulder. Did he suddenly get sick or something?
The feeling went away as quickly as it came, leaving a dull feeling of confusion. He opened his eyes just in time to catch something falling forward, that something was you.
Suddenly the face you had seen over your computer and phone screen, the face you had seen in magazines and commercials for as long as you have been a fan was less than a few inches in front of you. His dark brown eyes were big with shock and wonder and the sides of his face were slightly dampened due to the energetic choreography he had just done. The sea of army bombs created a mini galaxy in his eyes.
At first you thought, wow he looks so handsome.
Then you wondered wait, how did I get onstage?
Your mind seemed to catch up with you. You took notice that you were in fact on stage and in front of Jeon Jungkook. Could it be a possibility that it was the night before the concert and you were dreaming? This couldn't be real.
You felt your heart leap and an unintended gasp left you. Jungkook's mouth dropped a little bit and his own eyes widen in realization. The tall man helped you so that you were standing straight and took a small step back. However, he couldn't quite let go of you instead he kept his hands wrapped around yours.
The melody continued on without the maknae's voice. This caught the attention of many fans and the other members. They were all confused when the didn't hear Jungkook's voice. Luckily his part wasn't long and Jin quickly began to sing his own part.
You tensed within his hold and a feeling of happiness and dread filled you. Taking a look around the stage, you first saw V tap J-Hope and point in your direction. Namjoon was currently rapping his verse but that didn't stop his eyes from widening as well. Jimin who was behind Jungkook grinned at you. Suga had took notice of the situation as well with Jin neither of them knowing how they could fix this. That left every member either looking at you or doing their best to pretend nothing out of the ordinary was going on.
It didn't seem to be working because the audience started to get louder. You question for a moment if it was always this loud for the members onstage. It was hard to understand anything with all the noise but you caught a little bit.
"Look that's Jungkook's soulmate!" A voice closest to the stage squealed.
It was real. It was all real!
You were horrified. This moment, one of the most intimate moments between two soulmates has been seen by hundreds. It's probably been recorded by now. For all you know it would be on Twitter by tomorrow. This wasn't supposed to happen like this. You dreaded the thought of this private moment on social media for days to come.
Namjoon was quickly making his way over to you with a security guard as well.
Everything was moving so rapidly you just wanted to get out of this situation. You wanted to disappear. You began to realize you were breathing quicker than normal.
"Hey." A voice said so soft, you almost didn't catch it over the screams in the stadium. You look back to Jungkook only to meet the softest gaze you have ever come across. He looked so gentle towards you.
"It's okay."
He rubbed his thumbs over your skin attempting to calm you down and a shy bunny smile spread across his face.
"What's your name?" He asked with an excited glint in his eyes. Before you had the chance to respond a hand wrapped around your bicep.
"Come with me miss." The security guard said in urgency. Namjoon appears just a few seconds later and stands next to Jungkook. Just as you were being pulled away a strong grip stopped you.
"Wha-Wait." Jungkook mutters tightening his hold causing you to look back at him. He just met you, how could he be excepted to just let go of you?
"Jungkook, you can see her later but we need to get her off stage." Namjoon says in a stern voice towards the youngest.
Jungkook noticed the fearful look in your eyes and it made his heart ache. As much as he wanted to go with you so he could make sure you were okay he knew that your safety comes first. He then released your hand and in the blink of an eye you were ushered away from his sight.
The security guard took your arm and adviced you to keep your head down. You only looked ahead of your shoes not making eye contact with anything except the glossy stage floor.
When you got backstage everything passed by in a blur. People came up to you from all areas. They got you a bottle of water and lead you to a separate dressing room. You held on to the water bottle tightly, allowing it to serve as your anchor in all of this chaos.
"Wait here." The nice lady said with a small smile before closing the door. You took a careful breath in before gently letting it out. The room was bigger than you expected maybe that was because you were the only person in it. There were couches around making a U shape. Against the wall was a table of food and drinks, and as tempting as they looked you wouldn't dare grab one. The room was brighter and colder than it looked in behind the scenes videos.
Now alone in the quiet room you felt like you could breath a little bit.
You racked your brain with what to do now.
Jeon Jungkook was your soulmate.
Where do you go from here?
What about your best friend? She's freaking out no doubt.
Would it feel weird seeing as you were a fan?
You would just have to get to know him all over again. Learn his likes, his dislikes, and start as simple as possible. As you dig farther in your own thoughts you started to feel anxious.
Would he want to be with a random fan?
You honestly thought you were pretty, but what would others think? You know you shouldn't care but if he doesn't like the thought of you two together that would be another type of pain.
•••••••••••••
Intermission had finally started after another 4 songs. Jungkook practically flew pass the staff backstage once he found out which room you were in.
He rushed to the room that he was directed in but stopped short of running into the door. He stood stiff like a brick wall and took a deep breath. His soulmate was on the other side.
His soulmate.
He only saw you for a bit but his heart quickened at the thought of you.
He had wondered of this moment for a long time. Occasionally when the stress of life got to be too much he found himself dreaming of spoiling his soulmate and treating them like royalty. He would stay up wondering what their date nights would look like and what their love language was.
The other members knew how much of a hopeless romantic Jungkook was. They would often tease him whenever his head was in the clouds, they never took it too far though because they all secretly thought it was really sweet.
Jungkook thought about how he used to ask Jin about the meeting of soulmates and how it felt. He stopped asking after a while because of Jin's vague answers.
"I don't know, it just feels like...your being born."
"It's a warm feeling."
"You feel free...I guess."
"Jungkook-ah you'll know when you meet them!"
He had given up asking his hyung about how it felt to meet your soulmate. He tried to ignore any questions or thoughts of it but that was before he saw Jin cooking with his soulmate.
The look in his eyes while having his special person by his side warmed his heart. Jin's eyes gleamed with a distant euphoric look in them, it's a look Jungkook can't forget.
He wanted to feel that too.
You looked up at the sound of the door opening. Jungkook shuffles towards you in a daze. His eyes wet and red. You sprung to your feet suddenly feeling bashful and a little ridiculous under his intense eyes.
If you would have known you were going to meet your soulmate you would have dressed up a little more.
....maybe you wouldn't have worn your cooky headband.
He wordlessly took your hand once more. You allowed yourself to enjoy the unique feeling. His hand was very soft and a little warm probably because he was just dancing his heart out onstage. Your hands mold together and you swear electricity rushed through your veins. The room was silent as the two of you were deemed speechless. What do you say to the person you were waiting for all this time?
"Are you okay?"
When you look up, you see him blink down at you.
You grin at him and sheepishly nod. Jungkook let's out a small sigh of relief before smiling back at you. He lowers his head looking down at your connected hands. The ghost of the previous smile still on his face.
He looked so beautiful in this moment. You let your mind wander as you take in his features. Were you everything he dreamed of? Where do you go from here? Would you stay here? Would you go back home? Maybe you were getting ahead of yourself. Would you even start your relationship now?
You jumped out of your intermonolouge when you felt something wet on your hand. Looking down at your intertwined hands you saw a small tear.
"Ah," He mutters using his other hand to wipe his face. The embarrassment he was feeling showed through his pink tinted cheeks.
You were stunned. You never imagined that your soulmate would be choked up at this, at you. However it made your grin wider and your heart swell with adoration. You took a small step closer but not by much. You raised your hands to his cheeks allowing his tears to be caught by your thumbs. Jungkook noticed you were hesitant in your actions. He was just glad to have you so close after all this waiting. Jungkook leaned into your touch as a sweet gesture.
You were never told what it would be like to meet your soulmate. Sure, you heard classmates and co-workers talking about their own experiences, however the most common description was that it was a wordless feeling. One that couldn't possibly be capture in a few words.
Now you understood.
Looking into his big galaxy eyes, you felt breathless. It felt like, you could search every planet in the universe and you still wouldn't find anyone like him. Your heart felt like it was craving his but also wanted to shy away from the bizarre feeling. How could you put a word to such an intense emotion.
Jungkook's eyes suddenly catch something above you and his smile widens. "I like your headband."
You let out a small laugh at his comment feeling your cheeks warm. "Day 1, and you're already teasing me."
Jungkook squeezes your hand and holds it with his other, making it so your hand was in between both of his. He held your hand so cautiously, like it was a precious jewel.
He then looks to something else behind you. You turn around and see his six older brothers looking at him with fondness.
"Uh, sorry to interrupt but we need you back on stage." Jin says. He hated to interrupt this moment. It reminded him so much of when he had found his soulmate. He just wanted to spend all of his time with them and to pull Jungkook away when he just met his just made him feel bad.
"Oh right..." Jungkook said a little hesitant. He look back at you, his eyes showing a range of emotions. "You will wait here won't you?"
"Of course." You respond without hesitation.
Jungkook gave you another bright grin before he followed his hyungs out of the door.
You found out later through social media, that while Jungkook was onstage he began to cry.
"I-uh..." Jungkook paused looking out to the sea of fans, that despite everything he wanted to share this moment with them.
"I just found my soulmate."

The group was preparing to embark on a dangerous journey in the next couple of hours. Everybody was collecting and packing the supplies they would need for the next day. It had been hectic earlier, but it was night now and the nerves and jitters of hanging with unfamiliar strangers was retreating.
Dieter had a Hawaiian bread roll halfway in his mouth, engaged with the schematics of the plan. He had been staring at the blue sheet so long it was starting to make his head throb, his brain fighting an unseen cage match. Dieter scratched his head and swayed a little. As he munched on his roll, he swore he could feel eyes watching him so he did a quick sweep around the room.
Scott and Maria were at one of the tables, eating some sandwiches together and laughing about something. He noticed how happy they always seemed together, they always made him feel welcomed. Then there were Mikey and Chambers, they were playing cards together while Marianne smoked on something, watching silently behind them.
Then there was Vanderohe who was sitting by himself, shut away from the rest of the group. He had his headphones over his ears and his head against the back of the wall, eyes closed. He looked so peaceful, but he was the only one facing Dieter, which means he had to be the one he had felt watching. That or he was just losing his sense of perception.
Dieter made his way over to the man sitting on a lonesome bench, in his own little world. Something always drew Dieter to the man and he didn’t know what it was, but it was a strong feeling. Dieter knew he didn’t have many friends and he didn’t always know how to have conversations with other people but with Van, it’s like they were picking up where they left off.
“What are you listening to?”
Dieter tilted his head slightly in concentration and when he realized he could not be heard, he gently tapped Vanderohe on the shoulder. Vander pulled one of his headphones off his ear and clicked his phone, glaring daggers up at the man.
“What,” Vanderohe huffed. Dieter pushed past the glares and smiled.
“I asked what you were listening to.” The pair locked eyes for a moment and Vander could tell this wasn’t a fight he was going to win.
“What do you think I’m listening to,” Vanderohe asked, his straight face not budging.
“Probably...,” Dieter hummed, pondering seriously.
This was obviously a set-up question, meant to uncover the one truth Vander saw coming. Someone who was black and had his body built like his could only “stereotypically” listen to one thing. He knew how the world perceived him and Dieter wasn’t going to be any different, but the blue-eyed man was so intrigued by this new game he didn’t even notice the trap.
“Adele,” Dieter remarked. Vanderohe stared and Dieter clenched his teeth, waiting for his response, like he was expecting a prize to fall out of the air.
Vanderohe smiled and then started chuckling to himself. “Adele?”
“Yeah, Adele...do you not listen to Adele,” Dieter stared questioningly.
“Of course I listen to Adele! Who in their right mind doesn’t? I just assumed-,” Vanderohe started but stopped himself before he could finish.
“Assumed what?”
Vander thought maybe he should left it go but Dieter looked genuinely confused. “I assumed you would say rap or hip hop. I’m sure that’s what most people think I’m listening to when they watch me.”
“Do you not like rap music,” Dieter questioned, sitting down next to him.
“No, I do. It’s just I know people look at me. I know they see someone scary and unapproachable.”
“I don’t think you’re either one of those things,” Dieter added trying to be optimistic.
“Trust me, I noticed,” Vanderohe muttered. The two paused in silence before Dieter cleared his throat.
“So did I win?” Dieter grinned.
“Win what?”
“The song game we were just playing. Is that what you’re listening to?” Dieter leaned a little closer, a wide grin on his face.
“First of all, that wasn’t a game and second, no that’s not what I’m listening to.”
“So what are you listening-,” Dieter got cut off by Vanderohe taking his headphones from around his neck and gently put them over his ears.
“Now before I turn the music on, I want you to listen. Like really listen, ok?” Dieter nodded and put his hands over the headphones, nodding a little so that Vander could understand how serious he was about this.
Vanderohe hit play and Dieter instantly locked eyes with him, holding his gaze. Dieter stood for a moment trying to hear everything and then he felt it, the rhythm. He closed his eyes and started to nod his head along, a small smile on his face. “I think I feel it.” Van stood up as well and watched the man reach his plane of existence.
They stood together for a minute just enjoying the moment. Vanderohe pulled the headphones off of Dieter and pulled him out his trance. “What was that,” Dieter inquired.
“That my friend, is soul music. You can feel it, in here,” Van said placing his hand on Dieter’s heart. Dieter looked down at the man’s hand and Vander pulled away quickly.
“I know soul, Stevie Wonder! Aretha Franklin! I like them,” Dieter proclaimed, then he started to belt, “R-E-S-P-E-C-T, find out what it means to me!” Vander stared at him with a straight face before giving a small grin.
“Yeah, just like that.” Vander put the headphones back around his neck. “So did you like the song I played? Easy by the Commodores? It’s actually one of my favorite songs.”
“I actually quite like it now too, even though it’s very graphic song,” Dieter grinned and that made Vander grin for a second before realizing everything he said.
“How is it graphic? It’s about leaving someone you love.”
“The song you played me was about other things,” Dieter side eyed, eye brows raised. He was trying his best to conceal a blush. “You know...like sex. It specifically said ‘Let’s get it on’. Unless, I am mistaken in some manner.”
Vanderohe looked at his phone and looked at the title. “Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye was headlining his screen. “I played the wrong song!” He started to tap his gadget, scrolling through his playlist. “I must’ve hit shuffle, by mistake.”
Vander tried his best to contain his slight embarrassment. “Out of the songs in the world, why that one,” he thought to himself.
“It is okay, it is a great song. I am sure this ‘Easy’ song you speak of is amazing as well. Maybe sometime later we can try to find it again, I’d love to hear it.” Dieter gave his classic smile and Vander felt the tension leave his body.
“Yeah okay.” Vander soothed. Van sat back down and Dieter gently sat beside him. The two sat together for a bit, the silence being slightly comforting. Vander felt eyes on him and he looked over, he had caught Dieter staring before turning towards another direction.
“I noticed you have you’re own headphones too, what do you listen to,” Vander chimed, which made Dieter turn to him with a big smile.
“I’m actually quite a fan of Micheal Jackson and Selena Gomez.”
“That’s a range,” Vanderohe added.
“Not really if you think about it, he is the king of pop right? And she is a pop star, so they fall under the same genre. I’m also a fan of the song ‘Hey, Soul Sister’. You know that one?”
“Hey, soul sister ain’t that mr. Mister on radio, stereo. The way you move ain’t fair you know,” Dieter sang.
“Hey, soul sister, I don’t wanna miss a single thing you do,” Vanderohe muttered.
“Tonight,” they said together. Dieter laughed and hit his knee in excitement.
“Yeah,” Dieter exclaimed. Vander smirked for a second before turning back the other direction.
“You should probably get some sleep, we have a busy schedule tomorrow. And by ‘busy’ I mean life or death.” Vander put his head back up against the wall, eyes closed again.
Dieter understood the hint and cleared his throat, standing back up. “Oh yeah, of course. I should probably head back over to the schematics, give another once over. You can never be too prepared with a Götterdämmerung.” Dieter strolled away, trying his best to act normal.
Vanderohe turned his head and admired the man as he sauntered away. He couldn’t help but watch the man struggle to keep his excitement to a minimum about the vault. Van looked down at his phone and scrolled through the playlist and found “Rock with me” by Micheal Jackson. He turned the volume up and put his head against the wall, closing his eyes.
Tomorrow was going to be a long day.

for the ask game: 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 13, 15, 21, 22, 25, 28, 29, 30, 32, 33 and 34 (wow thats a lot sorry!!!) -Clancy/Ty/Blurry
noo I LOVE getting asked q's!! thank you🥰
3: What is your favorite Blurryface theory?
- tbh I don't have the time/energy/enthusiasm to follow every single thing going on with the lore but hmm I liked the Sally Sacarver the Traitor theory, don't know what became of it though lol
4: Tyler Joseph or Josh Dun?
- this is like 'mom or dad?' but harder LOL
- umm I really don't want to have a bias because I genuinely love them both but when someone asks I just say I'm in the middle lane but slightly tilted toward tyler's
5: What’s your favorite song on Blurryface?
- I can write a whole thesis on Hometown but I won't:)
7: Which music video is your favorite?
- damn it used to be Lane Boy, then it changed to Fairly Local, then it changed to NATN, then... I don't know anymore! it changes every season(?)
9: Do you have/want any Twenty One Pilots tattoos?
- I don't, and I probably won't get any because I personally don't think it's a good idea (for ME). I might, in the future, design my own that could possibly be influenced by their musical message, though.
10: Which album is your favorite so far?
- it always has been BF but recently... Trench's been plotting to take over...
11: Which lyric(s) has the most meaning to you?
- man, this is hard...
- 'please don't be afraid of what your soul is really thinking' stuck with me for a long time
- 'in Trench I'm not alone' gets me every time
- 'I don't wanna go like this, at least let me clean my room' absolutely shatters me
- etc etc
- in short, too many to pick from 🥴
13: Can you rap the second verse of Ode To Sleep?
- my brain says yes, my tongue says no.
15: If you met Josh & Tyler, hug, handshake or fist bump?
- I get so absurdly awkward in these kind of situations I might end up randomly saluting them ajdjsk
- but I prefer handshake because in my culture hugging a stranger is not really a thing 😂
21: Self-titled album or Regional at Best?
- these questions are...damn
- self-titled though!! sorry!
22: What was the first Twenty One Pilots song that you learned all the lyrics to?
- I can't remember? but I'm guessing either SO or Heathens because I sang them over and over again in the karaoke lol yeah I know, boring /j
25: Have you ever been recognized in public for wearing Twenty One Pilots merch?
- unfortunately (haha) I have... at a teaching institute where I was working a part-time job, by a student. I was so shocked because it's HIGHLY unlikely that anybody in my country will recognize them.
28: Have you ever been recognized by Twenty One Pilots on social media?
- yes!! recently!! on Tyler's bday! he liked my art on twitter and I thought I was hallucinating because I was SO sleep-deprived
29: What is your favorite Twenty One Pilots song?
- 😭😭noo
- Hometown was my soul anthem for 3 years but it's not that intense anymore, sadly. ughh my fav from sai is NTI but it's def not my overall favorite?? I really don't know😭 I love Bandito, March to the Sea, Slowtown, [insert every tøp song ever] and so on...
30: Have you introduced Twenty One Pilots to any of your friends?
- yes! I intentionally or unintentionally do that to every friend I make lmaoo
- but in fact, the closest friends I have that I can literally die for are all clikkies! we met through tøp and we still bond over them :'))
32: Can you rap Zack’s verse of Kitchen Sink?
- no and I don't think I ever even tried.. hds and ots are hard enough 🤪
33: Who is your favorite Twenty One Pilots Tumblr blog?
- omg I can't really pick because I love every single one of you even though I'm not that active 🥲 <3
34: Ukulele or piano?
- listening to: umm...piano, I think.
-playing: ukulele. definitely. it's easier to not mess up.

PLEASE 35 with bucky from the prompt list i feel like thatd be so funny
35. they see you know your megan
a/n: same omg ajansnakdk thank you for the request here you go!! everyone, pls feel free to check out my prompt list & request a blurb <3
——————————
after what felt like the longest shopping trip of his life, you and bucky were finally on your way home. you asked him if he wanted to go to the mall with you and him being the best boyfriend ever said “of course! i’d love to!”
he secretly hoped that meant you two would take a trip to victoria’s secret (his favorite store to shop with you) but after you guys passed by it and told him this was a strict jeans & sweater stock up, his dreams were crushed. he couldn’t be too upset about it though, because at the end of your trip you took him to cinnabon and got him a box of the delicious cinnamon rolls he adored so much.
the car ride home was filled with chatter and the low volume music coming from your cars speakers. as you drove, you and bucky were in the middle of a conversation about what movie to watch at home when you heard what song was playing. thee song.
“i’ve been wanting to watch that grinch movie wanda told me abo-“ bucky was cut off by your loud gasp, which made him flinch.
“bucky shut up!!” you shushed him. he was about to ask what was wrong until he was interrupted again and you turned the volume way up.
“real hot girl shit.” the speakers blasted. bucky could practically feel the loud beat in his brain. he furrowed his eyebrows and went to turn the volume down but you slapped his hand before he could even touch the stereo.
“dont.” the pointed at him, sitting up straighter and flipping your hair as the incredible lyrics to the song played.
“ay, bitch, i’m a problem nobody solvin', you can keep hating, i'm poppin' regardless, he want a bitch look like megan thee stallion, don't want your — 'cause i want his daddy” you sang, catching bucky completely off guard. he knew your taste in music and even enjoyed it from time to time but had never heard anything this explicit before, and certainly didn’t expect it to come from your mouth.
“i’m a hot girl, don't try it at home, i wear the shit that be showing my thong, i like to drink and i like to have sex, i fuck the — that's cutting the checks” you continued, and at this point you were so into it you began to move your body and dance in your seat.
the confusion on bucky’s part subsided and at this point all he could do was sit back and laugh at your antics. he couldn’t help but even be impressed with the way you seemed to rap along perfectly.
and as much as it surprised him at first, he couldn’t help but feel....dare he say, turned on? maybe it was the way you moved or the things the lyrics mentioned but he couldn’t help but thi-
“jesus, doll!” bucky’s dirty thoughts came to a halt as you accidentally swerved in the middle of your little performance, causing him to reach over and grab the wheel before you caused a car accident.
“sorry.” you said sheepishly, turning the volume down and grabbing the wheel properly, now becoming very aware of how silly you probably looked before. bucky noticed this and quickly dismissed your thoughts.
“no no! don’t be!” he assured, turning the volume back up and turning his body towards you. “i’m enjoying this.” he smirked. you giggled and sent him a wide smile before getting back into your moment.
“i’m so indecisive, you can't cuff me, but i’m wifey, i just want a — who gon' slurp me like an icee, bitches bite me so hard, had to put them on a diet, bitch, this ain't no tryout, so lil' ho, you better not try me”

yes i was listening to captain hook on repeat while writing this....

Nobody Is Listening, a track-by-track review
I’m sure it comes as no surprise that I have been listening to nothing other than Nobody Is Listening since the album dropped. And could anybody honestly blame me? Zayn absolutely shines on this album. Nobody Is Listening finds Zayn in comfortably settled in his sound, but not without subtle experimentation that lends itself perfectly to his artistic expression. Zayn’s vocals are stellar as ever. The production value on this album is confident and cohesive. Zayn co-produced the opening and closing tracks on Nobody Is Listening. This is already a five-star album for me, and I’m certain I will only love it more as I get to know it better.
As always, I’ve included a track-by-track review under the cut. My favourite song on the album is easily Tightrope. It may be my new favourite song from Zayn, period. Other standout tracks have been bolded below the cut.
Calamity took me entirely by surprise. I really didn’t expect the spoken verse. This track unlike anything we’ve ever heard from him before. I think Calamity is the perfect opener to an album titled Nobody Is Listening, in that the pulled back production forces you to really listen to what he’s saying. I love that he wrote this song entirely by himself. It really showcases his talents as a songwriter.
Upon listening to the entire album a number of times, I think Better was an interesting choice for a lead single. There are definitely stronger songs he could’ve gone with, in my opinion. However, the sound was familiar, a comfortable entry point for the casual listener, but the flow was different to what we had previously heard from Zayn, letting us know that this was the beginning of something new, so I get where he was coming from. As far as the song itself goes, I still love it. The way he switches up his flow every few minutes makes for an engaging song, dynamically, but I think Better works better in the album than it does as a stand alone track.
Outside is definitely a song I will play when I’m stressed out in order to soothe me. The composition of this track is so smooth. It is produced beautifully. The song feels very personal, in all it’s honesty and vulnerability. I won’t publicly speculate on his personal life but this clearly comes from a very real place. My favourite aspect of Outside is the high notes in the chorus, which will come as no surprise to those of you that know me. Zayn’s falsetto always gives me chills and this song is no different.
Vibez was a great choice for a single. It’s such a catchy song that was easily stuck in my head. When I first listened to Vibez, he caught me off guard with the heavy beat in the production but by the second listen, it grew exponentially on me. I am fascinated by Zayn’s ability to experiment in a way that still holds his signature. Vibez is one of the rare upbeat moments on Nobody Is Listening that make for a dynamic listening experience on the whole.
When Love’s Around is another favourite of mine. The production on this track is just so pleasing to me. Syd’s vocals are beautiful and they complement Zayn’s so well. The song is very romantic and when Zayn sang “you could be my wife for real”, my brain may have imploded slightly. 5/5 shit here.
I couldn’t talk about Connexion without first mentioning his falsetto!! This song has high notes on high notes and I live for it. I’m not usually one for vocal effects, especially because Zayn already has such incredible vocals, but I must admit that I love the effect they used on the chorus to make his vocal sound like a trumpet. It’s just another really cool bit of experimentation.
Sweat is a probably the sexiest song on Nobody Is Listening. The production and tempo really lend itself to the mood of the song. I love the way they used the classic 80s rock drums before the beat drop on this track. Sweat is an instant Zayn classic. It feels like a song that’s so on brand for him, that it has always existed as part of his discography.
If someone asked me to describe Zayn’s energy, I would refer them to Unfuckwitable. I think this track really encompasses who he is as a person. This is the kinda vibe I’m trying to be on. Like “yeah, I’m worth my weight in gold”?!? Damn fucking right, you are Zayn!! This is a song about agency more than anything else and listening to it makes me feel so proud.
Windowsill is another very sexy song. This track has some wild lyrics. I like this song well enough, but if I am to be honest, it would rank as my least favoured. I enjoy it as another of those rare upbeat moments on the album. It’s catchy for sure. Devlin’s rap was nice but it didn’t really do much for me.
Tightrope, as I’ve already mentioned, is my favourite song on Nobody Is Listening. This track had me from the guitar intro, but I kid you not when I say that I fully lost my mind when he started singing in Urdu. That destroyed me. I couldn’t move on. I still have not moved on. Every time he sings in Urdu, I feel so connected to him. Those are my roots reflected in his. It feels so special, I couldn’t even begin to describe it. And Chaudhvin Ka Chand Ho (by Mohammed Rafi) is such a good sample choice. Tightrope is the most romantic song on the album. The lyrics are so soft!! The production on the chorus and on the bridge actually took my breath away. This is Zayn at his finest.
My mind struggles to comprehend River Road — I mean what a way to end the album. I knew I would love this song from the title alone, and Zayn did not disappoint. This is one of the strongest tracks from a lyrical perspective. The instrumentation is really simple, I would even call it acoustic, but that didn’t stop them from playing with dynamics either. River Road is a masterful balancing act, all in all. This is simultaneously the saddest and most hopeful song on Nobody Is Listening.

toffee!
hehe glad i could make you laugh, oooh that sounds awesome! yeah id love to be tagged it sounds great :)
YES the differences are so fucking weird. like, they do know they're the same age right? i feel like its just an exagguration of how much the persons role in the group matters, like we see chan being held up as such a mature, old leader while jungkook who is literally the same age, is still babied etc. like enha hyung line is basically the same age (if a bit younger) as chenle and jisung but somehow the rules are different?? as you point out, still legal but still bizarre. hehe yeah, i mean where else are we going to rant? quora lol. mmm, hopefully more people can just write less smut abt people who are barely adults
ah, no prob it didnt take long. yeah i think thats right (i keep forgetting you know my url lol) mmhmm :( i think if that happened irl there would be some major trauma going on. knock wood it never happens to you or me lol (/hj)
hehe same! oooh glad Redemption For Cheese was realised! yess we cant rllycomplain that theyve written/produced too much good music lol. yeah, ive dragged him into being a stay so *dusts hands off* mission accomplished. mmm yeah, they tend to have a certain vibe but tbh it couldve worked if they were any other group but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ahh ur one step ahead of me on the stages of listening to ssick i think, still not convinced but thats okay! hehe, it had to be said. yesss the itch in the back of my brain is very satisfied by sorry i love you, felixs vocals deserve to be appreciated! (side note i feel like hes trying to sing more like his speaking voice, sorta husky, but tbh i wouldnt be mad if he sang like in glow, his sweet honey vocals made my life lol. but i think ive heard him say he doesnt like singing like that cos it makes his normal voice less husky, so what can you do)
> YES SOMEONE SAID IT. seungmin rap KING, he sped thru that rap like it was nothing, he deserves more rap lines. i do like how they gave minho some melodic rap lines this comeback, my guy deserved to show off those skills that made him not be eliminated (flashbacks to stay collectively wanting to murder jyp) and we already know changbin can sing, my man murdered masked singer. hyunjin can obviously sing as can jisung and felix, and i want to hear chan rap more! i feel like he started as part of 3racha (as a rap unit not producing) and then just became a vocalist (which im fine with, but it could be nice to hear him flex his rapping skills) and was partially replaced by hyunjin. anywayyy
back to album talk. lmaooo sad music to twerk to PERFECTLY describes silent cry. yes secret secret is and will always be, a masterpiece. hehe glad i could make you laugh :) i just felt like they have similar vibes. putting off skz stuff bc of not having time to cry IS the kpop stan life summarised. oh my beloved track, red lights. ahh thats okay, we can have different opinions, but by god the lyrics are *chefs kiss*. *banging on table* TWISTED AU TWISTED AU TWISTED AU. yess id love to see ur take on it! sdfghjkl it would have been glorious
no no! not stupid, just able to predict my brainwaves. ooooh thats so cool! makes me want to go there (wherever there is lol) yeah the waves are pretty good here, but none of my familys a surfer, so we dont rlly enjoy the full potential lol. YES moving on to gone away, it is indeed a heartwrenching track, but the vocals and the bloody key change? makes me want to brave being sad just to listen to it. mmm yeah, good point :( i feel like ive just gotten used to overthinking so much so that it doesnt matter what mood im in, ill do it anyway, so might as well just do what i feel like doing anyway.
yeah i think ur right! it is quite comforting knowing that all the tracks will get the love they deserve. i feel like also people assume kpop is just one genre which is utter bs. there are so many different vibes and feels and songs, i couldnt get into kpop (of which i thought only the bright cheerful present day bts stuff existed smh) until i heard gods menu so... idk where i was going with this but yeah. :)
YES FUCK YG, theyre literally on the brink of being kicked out of the big three and they are holding their salvation hostage without letting them do ANYTHING. idek what thought process goes thru their minds but arghhh its so infuriating. yess lisa's cb will be awesome but ot4 is the gold standard here.
hehe, glad u could get to this point. no no! u dont sound like a cult member at all lol yeah, i loooove some of their songs but the whole 23 members thing is getting to me. thats prob a common problem with nctzens but what can i say? im a simple girl with a limit to how many korean boys i can give my money to. atm im just trying to get into ateez and finish memorising enhypen's faces. also kard is kinda sucking me into their fandom atm, as well as eric name lol. ah what can you do? ooh thats good!
hehe i love it too! its exactly like online penpals, that was rlly well put. aww ty! hmm im okay, recovering from a bad case of rsv so thats fun. im doing okay mentally, starting therapy soon (after having to convince my mother that its not just smth i can brush off). physically i wont go into, basically i should be doing stretches to help but they dont completely fix it so my lazy ass doesnt do them, plus i got told recently im going to be stuck with this condition for the rest of my life so thats fun! ah, before you type smth dw abt me ill be fine. the weather atm is cloudy but warm, its been raining on and off today which is good for the garden. uhh i just finished reading sunburnt veils and im in the middle of prom theory which is rlly good. ummm ive got a concert tonight? that i may or may not be able to sing in (bc of the whole rsv thingo) and uhhhh idk. my dog is cute? im drinking tea rn? ive got a school dance coming up?
wbu? hows ur day going, how are you? whats the weather like on ur end? done anything interesting lately? found smth that makes you rlly happy? just any random thing youve been dying to tell someone?
no no! dont apologise, i love these exchanges. i think im happy to continue them for a long time :) on the other hand, if you get tired of them, feel free to just not answer at any time. goodness gracious this was a long ask haha hope it isnt too annoying
<3 w.a. 🐺
sorry it took me a bit to reply, i was fixing my theme ;n;
yeah, i figured it was because of the roles too. my friends and i still get taken aback when 3rd gen idols are the same age as 4th gen ones. in my head it doesn't add up sometimes. PLS THE RANT AT QUORA SKJDK tbh tho it's just going to be normalized as the years pass? esp that the boys are growing older and the amount of explicit fics will just increase. i might have to start blocking tags.
i had to look up the previous ask to remember what we were talking about xd i hope the events in champagne problems never happens to anyone. realistically, it probably happens a lot. damn i really won't wish that pain on anyone. dragging your brother into being a stay i whEEZED JFKSA additional noeasy music enthusiast o.o and ALL I CAN SAY WITH YOU GUSHING ABT FELIX IS AHA WHIPPEEEED OML can't blame you tho, i also want to hear felix sing more in other shades (if that makes sense HAHA) i really hope they'll do the role exchange in the next comeback :( or like in the near future bc i know they can do it :( the day i hear seungmin rapping it i will respectfully pass away. minho was given more lines this comeback thank fUCK i could rmb my irl being vocal abt her frustration. i don't get why minho barely has center time/lines in title tracks??? like the line distribution in the past eras just made me ???? if seventeen can balance lines with 13 members why cant a group of 8 do the same? moving on. i haven't watched the stray kids show simply bc i don't want to cry HAJS but i've seen clips. imagine if skz debuted without minho and felix?!?!? i rmb another irl catching bias feels towards changbin bc of the masked singer only to find out that the man's a rapper. i love how skz's vocals were highlighted this comeback :c there were a lot of mellow tracks! i find it cute when chan sings/raps bc it gets kinda obvious that he's a foreigner? the accent (im not even sure if it's the accent) it just shows. "putting off skz stuff bc of not having time to cry IS the kpop stan life summarised." CORRECT.
abt the twisted au o.O i'll inquire my irl if she wants to write it or not. if she doesn't want to, i'll do it. i miss writing twisted aus <3___<3 and i also miss going to the beach with my friends :' ) but it's starting to get cold here and i don't think i'll be able to enjoy the beach as much as i would if i went beaching in the summer. so maybe next summer? gone away really has an sm-ballad vibe. the thing about skz being a self-producing group, their songs don't sound like typical jype songs? and i just appreciate that bc in all honesty im not a fan of jyp groups at all. PLS the overthinking. i wish i could mute overthinking.
anyone who assumes kpop is just one genre obv hasn't listened to a single track. if kpop was just one genre why do i like some tracks more than the others??? oh you've only recently become a kpop stan? tbh im not a fan of the bright songs of bts either. i liked their older ones *chefs kiss* really matched high school vibes. yg has good artists and they're just wasting the talent ~.~ that strategy they have will get tiring eventually. people will stop waiting on blackpink and move on to newer more active groups ://
HAHAHAH yeah the 23 members is pretty overwhelming! it was the reason i didn't bother stanning before quarantine started. i don't regret stanning tho, met my ult bias in that group <3___<3 i don't really purchase albums unless i like the tracks xd ohhh getting into ateez just in time for the comeback! let me know what you think about them! i was fond of them at some point but grew out of it. good luck with memorizing enhypen! it took me a while to distinguish to people there XD i haven't checked out kard yet but chan plays their songs during lives and they're sexc hype music me likey *u*
i had to look up rsv im sorry. i'm glad you're recovering! please rest more and don't stress yourself out. bro i wish i could go to therapy too bc i have weird issues i can't justify and i need a professional to tell me what's the reason behind it. stuck with what condition btw? what happened? i'm sorry in case i just forgot. yesterday was a bit rainy for me too :(( it's not the type of rainy that makes me anxious so B) oh concert! good luck and i hope you'll be able to sing but i also don't think it's best for you rn :c what's your dog's breed? and yes i just finished drinking tea too. AAAAA i miss school dances :(( the last one i was supposed to have was cancelled bc of covid.
i was less productive today and i'm teetering between being mentally stable and becoming a hermit again. i'm anxious with a lot of things atm so like : D not the best state. today it was a bit sunny but not hot hot which was nice. i changed my theme today bc i couldn't wait for sept. 1st. and no i haven't found anything that makes me happy HAHAHA shit like that's hard to identify. don't have anything to say too, i'm just thinking about why i'm procrastinating too much atm T_T and i'm listening to this rap song atm and one of the rappers sounded like han.
it isn't annoying! i enjoy the long exchanges but i do admit it takes me awhile to type down a reply. so if i get more busy, it'll prolly take a bit longer for me to reply.

Headcanons for Alastor, who heard the singing of his crush, and this is a song about nonreciprocal love (and he doesn't understand that the song is about him) My apologies for my terrible English! Love you 💜
The song used in this one shot was the closest I could find to a unrequited love song, I hope you dont mind! Also this was soooo much longer than I intended, but the idea just kept flowing so I kept going with it. Anyway, enjoy!
Alastor could hear faint, gentle music playing from somewhere among the halls of the hotel.
Of course, his curiosity gripped him tight and he couldn't find it in him to let it go. So he followed the soft music that drifted in the dark, empty halls until he made it to your door.
He found it was cracked a few inches and peaked inside a little, just to see what you were up to.
He found you setting on your bed; wearing your favorite red shorts and a black shirt that had "fuck off" written in red along the top along with fuzzy red socks on your little feet (well little to him).
You were brushing/combing out your hair (or wig if you're bald for whatever reason).
He was going to continue on with his day like nothing happened, until you began to hum, he could tell you were about to sing.
He couldn't move away from your door, you'ee voice was so... beautiful and he hadn't even heard you sing yet! Although he could hear the sad undertone to the hum.
He felt his heart clench. What could make you so sad? Was it the song? Was it something someone had said? If so he would have a busy afternoon...
He decided to listen to what you were about to sing, hoping it'd give him some kind of clue.
(In case you want to listen to it, it's called Shiver by Coldplay, I love Coldplay)
"So I look in your direction, but you pay me no attention... do you?
I know you don't listen to me, 'cause you say you see straight through me... don't you?~"
He watched you with intent eyes as you got up to set your brush/comb on your vanity. He frowned as he watched you sit in the chair and give your self a sad look.
"And on and on from the moment I wake to the moment I sleep, I'll be there by your side. Just you try and stop me. I'll be waiting in line, just to see if you care.~"
Alastor felt like he was going to be sick. Not only were you sad, but it was because someone had broken your heart.
You fell in love with someone, and they didn't reciprocate your feelings, they possible didn't even notice you.
But how could they not? You were a so beautiful/handsome. You were practically a god/goddess.
Although the worst part, was probably the fact that you didn't love him.
"Ooooh.... Did you want me to change? Well I changed for good. And I want you to know, that you'll always get your way.~"
"I wanted to say... Don't you shiver~"
"Shiver... shiver~"
"I'll always be waiting for you.~"
You leaned back in the chair, look up at the ceiling with glossy eyes.
"So you know how much I need ya. But you never even see me... do you? ...And is this my final chance of getting you?~"
You rest your forearm across your eyes to hide your tears eventhough you thought no one was there. But Alastor was, and he already saw them.
He looked down, feeling bad he couldn't really do anything to help you. Although he was determined to speak with you after you were done singing, in hopes to comfort you.
"And on and on from the moment I wake, to the moment I sleep, I'll be there by your side. Just you try and stop me. I'll be waiting in line, just to see if you care... if you care. Oooh~"
"Did you want me to change? Well I changed for good. And I want you to know, that you'll always get your way.~"
"And I wanted to say... Don't you shiver.~"
"Don't you shiver.~"
"Shiver~"
"I'll always be waiting for you...~"
"Yeah I willalways be waiting for you. Yeah I will always be waiting for you. Yeah I will always be waiting for you. For you I will always be waiting.~"
"And its you I see, but you never see me! And it's you I hear, so loud and clear! I sing it loud and clear! And I'll always be waiting for you.~"
"So I look in your direction, but you pay me no attention. And you know how much I need ya, but you never even see me...~"
Alastor waited a few seconds and plastered on a smile before gently rapping his knuckles against your door.
You sat up quickly, wiping the tears quickly before walking over towards your door.
You opened it a bit more and peaked out to see Alastor. You gave him a nervous smile before opening the door all the way.
"Hey Alastor, what's up?" You smiled at him.
He could tell that your smile was forced. It didn't quite reach your eyes; sadness and heartbreak still swam in your eyes as clear as day.
"Well my Dear, I should be asking you that question."
You laugh nervously, rubbing the back of your neck. "What do you mean?"
Alastor let out an exasperated sigh, doing his best to keep the smile on his face. "Not that I meant to be an eavesdropper, but I heard the song you sang. You sounded quite beautiful, but on the contrary upset. So I felt the need to ask if you were alright."
You frown quickly and dart your eyes away from Alastor. "Yeah, I'm... I'm fine. It's just the basic girl/guy loves a guy who doesnt really notice her/him, y'know?"
Alastor feels the need to frown, but he knew he'd alarm you so he made his smile grow.
"Yes well, you know what they say, unrequited love makes the world go round."
You look at him in disbelief, before cracking a smile, and soon a small, breathless laugh.
"Who says that?"
"Well I just did."
You let out a giggle as you shake your head. "So no one."
"Well I didn't really think of myself as no one, since I am someone. Everyone is someone really, although that's not quite the point we're discussing."
"We're not discussing any point really." You copy his really with a smile.
"Oh? I thought we were discussing of blockheaded, dimwit who couldn't notice a diamond in the ruff such as your self."
A blush flourished across your face like a field of flowers spreading in the spring time. Slow at first, as if you were regeristing what he said and then it spread quickly, leaving no bit of flesh untouched with a tinge of pink.
You gave him a gently shove that made his heart accelerate from your touch. He normal didn't like people touching him in anyway, but he couldn't make himself dislike your innocent touches. It made his heart flutter in a way he both hated and loved.
"Oh stop it, I'll be okay."
He nodded. "Yes, well I thought perhaps you'd like to talk about it."
You paused, thinking it over he assumed. "Well there's not much to talk about. He's just... out of my league. It's no wonder he doesn't really notice me, I don't necessarily stand out. Which is okay, it's always been like that for me."
Alastor tried to process what you said. What do you mean, "you don't necessarily stand out"? You were the absolute first thing he saw among everyone in the hotel.
You stood out like white against black, but not in a bad way. You are definitely something special, something extraordinary. You made Alastor fall in love with you, and that's not an easy task.
The more he gets to know you from others, the conversations he happens to over hear, and by observing you, the more fond he grows of you.
He may not have sexual desires towards you, but he never has had any type of sexual desire. That will never change, but he can still understand how beautiful you are.
He just couldn't understand why others never chose you, how couldn't they? You were perfect. Was this why you seemed so insecure about this guy? Because no one ever chose you?
Alastor felt a great need to change that. He felt like he had to tell you his feelings. You won't like him back because you're hung up on that other guy, but maybe he could boost your confidence enough so you gain the courage to tell him. To know someone had chosen you.
He may not enjoy the though of you with someone else, but for the first time in a long time, it wasn't about him. And he couldn't let himself make it about him.
"Well darling, I have something to tell you."
You looked at him in the eye; a curious glint shining in your eyes. Seeing your curiosity only made him fall deeper in love with you.
"What is it Alastor?"
He found it hard to find words for the first time in his entire life. His life both on Earth and in Hell. What were you doing to him?
"You see, ever since you came here, I've been fixated on you. You're like no one I have ever met in either of my lives; I hypothesize that's what drew me to you. The more I had gathered on you from everything I saw and heard, the more I had grown to adore everything you were and are. Even though I am asexual, and I will never have any sexual desire for you, I do have the desire for you to love me as much as I love you. Although, from the song you had sang, I know now that you never will. I will never hold that against you. I'm telling this to you in hopes you gain some confidence in telling that guy, whoever he may be, that you love him. If he has any kind of brain function, he'll reciprocate your feelings."
You stares at Alastor in confusion. Neither of you said anything for a while, so Alastor took it has his cue to leave.
"Well, have a good night (Y/n). I hope everything works out for you."
He turned to leave and you panicked. You reach out and snag his coat, tugging on his.
"Wait! Stop!"
He turns to you, "Yes? Did you need something else?"
"Wh-What do you mean?! You can't just walk away after confessing! You didn't even hear my response."
"I already know the answer though, I was simply giving you confidence."
"... Did you mean what you said though? Or is it just a confidence boost..."
Alastor couldn't help the frown that tugged at his lips from the sight of your disbelieving and hurt look as you trained your eyes on the floor.
"Every word. I swear, and I'll have you know I am a man of my word."
You looked up into his eyes, tears brimming the edge of your eyes before plummeting down your face.
Alastor was quick to move, wiping the tears from your face. "I didn't mean to make you cry Darling. You dont have to like me back. I'm not pressuring you-"
Alastor was cut off as you jumped forward into his chest, knocking the air out of his lungs as you tightened your grip around him.
"Its not that! I... I just... no one has ever truly liked me back before... I just really happy."
Alastor paused for a second before grinning. He hugged you back.
"I've never had anyone like me back either, but I guess you have to like them to begin with. Your special (Y/n), if not to no one else, then to me. You'll always stand out to me."

I have been unbelievably busy for all of 2020 so far. Starting a new job and crunching to finish an old one, it's been very good but it has also meant that I haven't had the downtime I'd have liked in order to write long screeds about when drums sound good in songs so my December and January playlists unfortunately never got finished. They will exist as 'lost' playlists in the grimelords canon where you will simply have to listen to them and have your own thoughts about the songs instead of having your judgement clouded by me saying things like 'this sounds nice' and 'I love when the guitar goes woo-eee'.
You can listen to them here:
December https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4crPEVSPwftPpWl14xUrXF
January https://open.spotify.com/playlist/25MP7onYLCwWRYBIi0u3yc
As far as this, my February playlist goes: It's great! It's two and a half hours. The songs sounds nice and the guitars go woo-eee. I was worried I wouldn't be able to listen to as much music with my new job but it turns out I'm listening to more than ever which is extremely nice. Please enjoy, and if you'd like to subscribe to this playlist please do so here: https://tinyletter.com/grimelords

Ballad Of The Skeletons - Allen Ginsberg, Paul McCartney, Phillip Glass and Lenny Kaye: I had a dim childhood memory of this 1996 Hottest 100 funny skeleton song that my sister randomly brought up this month and was was shocked to find out that somewhere deep in my brain the part where the electric chair skeleton says “hey what’s cooking???” was still stored. I was also shocked to find out that the funny skeleton song I remembered from when I was a kid was actually a collaboration between Allen Ginsberg, Paul McCartney and Phillip Glass and was an unexpected hit on MTV and Triple J in 1996 for an as yet unknown reason.
I Can Go With You - Sam Burton: This song came up in my Discover Weekly, and I was so excited to listen to more of this 70s singer songwriter I've never heard of before who has no doubt had a long and illustrious career and was shocked to find out that not only is this song from 2020, it is also the first and so far only release by Sam Burton and his debut album is coming out sometime this year. I love how plain it is, and the first time I heard it it made no impression on me until a couple of hours later when I realised I was humming the melody to myself. It has this decepitive simplicity to it, and it sounds like a song you've always known which is really about as good a compliment as you can give a song. I also love this statement from him: “I was writing a song a day for 30 days as a personal challenge to myself. I Can Go With You came near of that practice and I considered it a throwaway at the time. After recording most of the album I still needed a couple more songs and decided to throw it on and we recorded it live followed by two others. When I listened back it ended up being one of the tracks I was happiest with on the record.” I love when artists are asked about songs and they have no divine inspiration to relate, just a process of daily work where they're like "well, I wrote it, like I always do. Did the chords and the words and everthing just like normal. I write hundreds of these things and this one came out pretty good. I don't know what else to tell you."
Wild Dogs - Colter Wall: This is a song by Billy Don Burns who you can probably expect to see on this playlist next month, and who as I understand it is one of these 'real' country guys that have been around for a million years and only ever had success when other people sang their songs. So it's very nice of Colter Wall to continue that tradition for him. I love the way this song takes the metaphor to a place of almost uncomfortable literalism, a tryst metamophising into something private, bloody and feral. The subtle way the lap steel whines slowly along in the background before stepping out and taking centre stage once the song picks up steam near the end is a marvel too.
Tom's Diner - Suzanne Vega: I had a live version of this randomly recommended to me by youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkYPge6ZKSQ and it made me see this song that I'd always been sort of aware of in a new light and really properly appreciate it for the first time. Somehow I'd never noticed the last verse where it moves from literalism to memories, and of course that's sort of the moment that ties the whole song together. What I really appreciate about the acapella arrangement is that it feels like this is a song that's existed a million times before but she's the first person to actually write it down and record it. Everyone's made up a little dishwashing song or a little walking song, reciting some to-do list in your head. It's an entire genre that exists under people's breath for a few minutes and gets immediately forgotten.
If You Don't Know Now, You Never Will - Drugdealer: I could have sworn this was a Tobias Jesso Jr song. I really just assumed it was until I looked at the credits. It's such a nice song though and I'm glad this sort of 70s californian vibe is making a quiet comeback because it is just uniformly pleasant and it's nice to hear these sorts of arrangements, with the accenting violin runs and things like that. All the extra decorations and ornamentations that have sort of disappeared.
Crimson Tide - Destroyer: I absolutely love this new Destroyer album because it just feels like such pure uncut Destroyer. I’ve always thought of him as a sort of 400 year old vampire lounge singer who is just amusing himself at this point and so the cover art has really confirmed my suspicions on that front. The lyrics through this whole album are so good, the sort of stream of consciousness strangeness like ‘when lightning strikes twice the funeral goes completely insane’ that takes a on such gravity because he sings it with complete deadpan seriousness.
Truth (feat Alicia Keys and The Last Artful, Dodger) - Mark Ronson: I didn't really give this album a chance when it came out but ever since I found out Alicia Keys is good now (Time Machine) I've been looking for more good Alica Keys work and found one here. The Last Artful, Dodger is one of the worst artist names I think I've ever heard but she absolutely kills it on the way she says biiiiitch so I'll forgive it.
Surf & Turf - Boldy James + The Alchemist: Alchemist's production on this whole album is so incredible. He really just lets Boldy go and doesn't get in his way like good production should. Especially on the opening verse where Boldy James sticks with that loping flow for so long in 3s over 4 that matches that arpeggios in the beat, it's just a perfect harmony of rapper and producer.
Fat Mac - Duke Deuce: Misogyny in rap is a real issue that nobody seems really allowed to talk about because it's obviously very complicated, and this song some real classic 'stay in the kitchen' type woman hating in it and is basically incredibly callous and cruel throughout. However this beat is hot and there is also a part about a third of the way through where he says "fuck her till that pussy fart" and then makes a big fart noise, so.
Set It Up (feat. Trina) - Kamaiyah: I only found out about Kamaiyah's fantastic 2016 album A Good Night In The Ghetto about two weeks before her new one came out so I've been on a real Kamaiyah hype for a little while now. She's just fantastic. I love this song because I love the part where Trina seemingly out of the blue threatens to piss in my mouth. The first time I heard it I said 'wow!' out loud.
Come As You Are - Greg Phillinganes: There's something going on with the pop math in this song that I just can't put my finger on. It feels for all intents and purposes like this should be a hit. The melody is great. The big synth voice is great, it's got extremely fatty bass. It's great! But something about the structure of it is just off, it's got too many sections or something. Which kind of makes me love it more really.
Devotion - Pure Bathing Culture: What surprised me the most about this song is the secret shredding happening throughout. It feels like a sort of clean and cool guitar that hasn’t existed in the wild since the Lethal Weapon soundtrack and it adds such an energy to this already completely wonderful song.
Paper Cup - Real Estate + Sylvan Esso: The production on this song is just so beautiful. The violin melody and the pillow soft synths really add such an extra dimension to it. The tone on everything really. The guitar in the solo. Every time I listen to this song I just want to listen to it again because it goes down so smooth.
Mark Zuckerberg - Nap Eyes: I’m a very big fan of the way this song transitions from a sort of TMBG novelty song halfway through into a lonely and beautiful thing instead. It’s like he got distracted and wandered off in the middle of his set but the camera followed him. I also haven’t heard a lyric in a long time that made me bark laugh so instantly as “And what does he do with all that sand? He collects sand right? I think I read that somewhere. Seems innocent enough.”
Viking Hair - Dry Cleaning: I fell in love with this band immediately on hearing this song. The way the spoken lyrics sit in a place of almost coherence, dipping between mysterious phrases and earnest admissions feels like Life Without Buildings for a new generation. I love the feeling of a huge crush at the centre of this song that comes through achingy in every single word, even when she's talking about abandoned refrigerators.
LeBron James - Do Nothing: This is my number one song this month I think. I've listened to it every single day and I cannot wait to see what this band does once they've got more than a couple of songs out. It's my absolute favourite kind of lyrics: the kind that sounds like you just wrote down every one-sided phone conversation you overheard on the bus and then the music is some halfway point between Black Midi and Franz Ferdinand. What else do you need!
Can I Receive The Contact? - The Spirit Of The Beehive: The Spirit Of The Beehive's album is one of the best I heard this month. The way the production incorporates sound collage and samples without diluting the immediacy of the songwriting is really something special that feels hard to pull off in a rock context but sounds effortless through this whole album. The way this shifts at the end into the odd time section is so great and really the way the whole album flows like one long track is just amazing. Please listen, I'm obsessed.
An Air Conditioned Man - Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever: There is so much space in Rolling Blackouts songs. They just go and go, sitting in this great jam space without feeling shaggy. The tempo across the album stays pretty consistently at this breezy, upbeat, driving speed that makes it feel like as soon as one song ends the next one just picks up exactly where it left off. It almost feels like a studio confines them and they'd be better off just recording their album live at a show where every song can go for 8 minutes like it wants to.
Leak -Truth, yesnoyesnoyes- - Boris: I got to see Boris and Merzbow this month, which was a great treat for me but it was also at a seated theatre venue which was a very strange choice. Sitting down and clapping politely as Merzbow pressed the screaming button feels odd, like being at an 1800s World's Fair show about the wonders of electricity or quite literally like being the guy in the chair getting blown away by the speakers in the Maxell ads. I bought earplugs for the show but ended up pulling them out for the last three songs or so to properly experience it, and it was fucking great. Something I was thinking about after the show is that it's interesting how Boris mostly have clean vocals, and really approach metal as an idea from and angle that's more shoegaze than Slayer. Aside from the immense volume, there isn't a lot about their music that I would describe as agressive, even most of what Merzbow added to the set was just extra feedback frequency noise, not atonal agression. I don't mean this in a trve kvlt way, more like it's interesting how they've taken the aesthetics of metal and refined them into pure amplifer worship, in their words, by either playing straight drone, or just playing normal hard rock at inhuman volumes. Boris are very good is what I'm saying, and I can't wait to listen to more of their extremely large discography.
Nameless Streets - Defeater: I've never really listened to much hardcore and I'm not really sure why. I've listened to Defeater's first two albums to death though so maybe it's time to branch out. What I love about this song, and this band in general is the vocal delivery. In a lot of agressive music from metal to screamo, because the agression and emotion is always sitting at a 10 the nuance can get lost and it becomes a sort of white noise, but Defeater have a nice way of backing off musically and vocally here and there to let the hard hits really hit hard. The outro to this song is also some absolutely world class snare work, building a tension bed in the simplest way thats relieved when the rest of the band comes crashing back in.
Boys In Town - Divinyls: I love the true desperation in this song. The trapped in a small town, surrounded by fuckers stress that gives way in the second half to just screaming "get me out of here!!". I am also interested in the evolution of the phrase 'too much, too young' and would like to know whether this song is referencing the song by The Specials, and if the Defeater song on this playlist is referencing this song or The Specials song, or if all three came up with it independently. It's a simply enough phrase, I suppose they could have. Who cares, really.
Body By Crystal - Spike Fuck: Come on a journey with me and imagine a world where Alex Cameron makes good music. That's Spike Fuck! The sort of burned out, past their prime singer desperate for a hit in any sense type of character - except actually put together with some heart and emotion and not an 80s comic book writer's understanding of human lows. I cannot wait to hear more from Spike Fuck.
Rogue Wave - Aesop Rock: It is something of a marvel how consistently high quality Aesop Rock's work is. For all his verbosity and expansive vocabulary he seems to never veer into white guy rap god flexing for the sake of it. Even a song like this that's 3 minutes of dense verses with nothing resembling a hook doesnt feel exhausting, it just feels like a series of extremely pleasing words and images like "take it where the warlocks lock horns, soda pop, popcorn / top notch gore set to Bach over fog horns" that makes my brain go "nice".
Momentary Bliss (feat. Slowthai and Slaves) - Gorillaz: I love the strange rollout Gorillaz are doing for this album, building the tracklist one song at a time. It's a nice way to force close listening, especially in songs with odd structures like this. I love hearing how different prouction changes Slowthai's approach; on this and Deal Wiv It that he did with Mura Masa it feels a lot brighter than anything on Nothing Great About Britain and there's a playfulness in his flow that comes through accordingly. Gorillaz are always moving around musically but I love how much of a live band feel this has compared to the more studioy sound that killed their last album for me.
We Will Always Love You (feat. Blood Orange) - The Avalanches: I am so excited at the possibility of a new Avalanches album already, and this is the perfect song to have as a lead single because it functions more like a teaser. Like 'would you like an hour more of this kind of beautiful, loving dream?'
Tar Sequence - Lalo Schifrin: I found out a little while ago that the local news theme when I was growing up was actually this song from the score to Cool Hand Luke, and according to a bunch of other guys in the youtube comments it was the local news theme for a lot of stations across America as well. The scene is of a prison road gang working under the blazing sun, and I'm sure someone could write a thinkpiece about the soundtrack to the nightly news, and really the platonic ideal of news themes in general stemming from the score to a scene about prison labour. But not me! I'm just going to write this little post and say we all owe Lalo Schifrin our lives for inventing the sonic pallette of kung fu AND the news, which is an incredible achievement whichever way you slice it.
When You - Tha Pope: It's a little bit of a shame that footwork is 'over' now but I suppose that's the way of things. The intro to this song is an absolute all timer for me. The delay soaked tag, the extended organ lick and then a total gear shift into this shrieking vocal sample that sounds like something has gone wrong but is revealed in actuality to be the centre of the whole track. I absolutely love Pope's little adlib at the start, and halfway through when he brings it back - it injects some real humanity into this cacophonous, volatile song and lets you know someone's done this on purpose, they've not just turned every dial to 10 and pressed play.
Jonny/Jonny (Reprise) - Faye Webster: I am absolutely in love with the tone of Faye Webster's voice and especially the way she slowly slides up to the note at the end of every line in the verse. This is a song that belongs to the great genre of songs that sound like they were entirely written and performed while laying on the floor and staring at the ceiling. The reprise here comes back at the end of the album and I love it so much. It feels like a Sex And The City monologue set to music, an underexplored genre I'd definitely like to hear more of.
Holes - Matt Berninger: Matt Berninger of The National covered Mercury Rev's Holes for a series of charity 7"s that Planned Parenthood are doingand I really love his take on it. It's a difficult song to cover because it is so beloved, and I think he does really well to not smooth out the arrangement into any sort of easy listening version. The rumbling piano and the extra vocals that mirror the original saw sound near the end are just wonderful. The part that always breaks my heart in this song is the "bands" line at the end and he really does it perfectly without being overdramatic.
Ta Aro - Nadia Reid: I love the way this song is just soaked in tension and potential energy. She has a beautiful way of holding a note just past the edge of her breath, like when she sings 'glory hallelujah' or 'I am stronger' and in the wordless refrain that just draws me in. Then the way it all closes in on itself and shadows close in at the end while it swells to this beautiful thunderstorm of sound. Just great.
Purify - Neurosis: Someone had a tweet a while ago that was like 'listen to a new album every day in February and write about it' and I thought 'fuck it why not' and started doing that. I kept a little note in my phone of every album I listened to that I'd never heard before, and I ranked them out of 5 so I could remember which ones I liked. I ended up listening to 49 new albums which surprised me, and it was surprisingly easy to do as well so I've decided to keep doing it in March as well. Highly recommended. A nice side effect of constantly searching for new things to listen to is it's given me a chance to hear bands that I've always heard about and know the name of but never actually listened to for one reason or another, which is how I got to Neurosis. It's nice to hear this kind of industrial 90s metal that I'd only ever previously heard in Tool from another angle, and it is especially nice to hear bagpipes in a drone metal context - a thought I'd had independently about a week before hearing this album and was glad to have willed into existence before me.
Shallow Sun - Real Estate: Time! I love a song about aging that mentions specific years and ages so you can count along on your fingers. '25 in 2010... so he was 24 when they put out in their first album.. 39 in 24.. so he's... 35 now.. and i'm 28... which means I'm... 3 albums behind..'
Quand Vas Tu Retrer - Melody's Echo Chamber: I'll listen to any song in 5/4. It is simply groovy. This song is so beautifully textured it feels like you can just get completely lost in the sound while the groove moves it along.
Living Through Another Cuba - XTC: I think I've posted this song on one of these playlists before but fuck it, the more time passes the more I think this might be one of the best songs ever written and a complete and total encapsulation of the cold war mood. The absolute maniac resigned powerlessnes on full display, screaming and shouting about pullings fins from an atom bomb and the absolute certainty that even if the world isn't destroyed this time it'll all come around again soon enough anyway.
Time - U.S. Girls: I am a huge proponent of the long song at the end of the record as a concept, and really I believe every song should be the long song at the end of the record if at all possible. This amount of colour in this jam is just incedible, it never gets weighed down or waylaid it just keeps moving though an ever shifting kaleidoscope and I absolutely love it. It also reminds me of Los Bitchos who were on one of my secret lost playlists from December so it's nice to have their vibe represented here at least. This song also interestingly ties into a thought I was having this week about the limits of music wherein time is the only immutable constant. In all of life music is an inescapable constant of course, but in music especially compared to visual art or written art, time is an inexorable force. You simply cannot bend time in music, a song or performance will always have a duration that will define it, short or long, which cannot be muted or played with in the same way that rhythm or tonality can. 4'33" is a good example of that, being devoid of everything except time. When there is nothing, there is still time. Canyons of time.
Bad Magic - Weyes Blood: I got to see Weyes Blood a couple of weeks ago and I feel extremely blessed that I did. She's just amazing. She played this song solo as her last encore, and she's in a sort of interesting position of blowing up majorly on her fourth album so people (myself included) weren't overly familiar with her older stuff. So when she said 'this is a song called Bad Magic' everyone clapped politely and one woman right up the back screamed "oh my GOD??" which is the kind of personal, just for her, singular experience I'm always here for. Hearing this song for the first time in that setting has really made me fall in love with it. The thing that's always alienated me a little abot Weyes Blood's earlier work, and the thing she changed so dramatically on Titanic Rising is the structuring of her songs. Titanic Rising embraces pop songwriting so wonderfully where her earlier work was so much shaggier and harder to access as a result - but in this song I love it. This song is meandering and long and wanders around in circles and I'm here for every second of it.

A Sinclair Family Christmas Vacation: Sinclair Bros Fluff
Catch me fuckin around with the movie canon to make my writing work... it’s free real estate! This is a Christmas present for the most beautiful goomba of them all, @slashermom who not only has a huge brain and giant meat; but is also one of the kindest most generous people I know. YOU’RE THE BEST M!!!!
——————————————————————
You’d officially decide that being ‘on the lam’ didn’t agree with you at all.
The cold truck-stop coffee in the cup holder seemed to look at you mockingly as your stomach gurgled in displeasure. You probably shouldn’t have had a second cup without food to go along with it; but all Lester had bought was a handful of Slim Jims and Cheetos and no one besides him was interested in that particular combination.
You’d been driving for more than ten hours straight today – for the third week in a row - trying to get your small family as far away from Louisiana as possible - all to protect the brothers resting in the seats surrounding you.
The escape from Ambrose and subsequent healing of the twins was something you wished to forget as quickly as possible.
Everything from hiding with Lester from the police, to Vincent’s cries of exhausted pain as you and Lester held him down, to snapping Bo’s dislocated jaw back into place were sanguine phantoms you could all see out of the corner of your eyes – but the only thing you could do was keep moving.
So that’s what you did. State to state, never staying anywhere more than a couple of days, hoping somewhere would feel like home again soon.
———————————————————————
Colorado was just as beautiful as you’d always imagined it would be.
The Rocky Mountains rose like colossal spires before you, stretching out as far as you could see. You appreciated the view quietly, letting the men sprawled across the bench seats in the back get as much rest as they could before one of them took a shift at the wheel.
A glance down at the thermometer showed the temperature dropping at an alarming rate, and as snow began to fall faster and faster through the frozen air, you were suddenly aware that the light jackets that were plenty of protection in a Southern winter wouldn’t do much good when contending with cold like this.
The last dollar bills you’d pulled from an ATM sat heavily in your pocket as you pulled into a Walmart parking lot and slipped out of the car as silently as possible- leaving the heat running and shushing Jonesy’s inquisitive huff with a quick snap of your fingers.
A couple hundred dollars and half an hour later found you burdened down with bags of proper winter clothing and enough McDonald’s cheeseburgers to feed a small army; trudging back to the car through the quickly accumulating snow.
———————————————————————-
“Vincent! Bo! Wake the fuck up!!”
Lester’s cries brought both twins out of their slumber like the crash of a gong.
Bo shot up, ready to fight whatever was causing his brother to panic, while Vincent carefully righted himself, still wary of the knife wound on his healing side.
The car was dark, but for a few slivers of grey light slipping past whatever was covering the windows.
Lester was touching the opaque surface with awe – eyes wide as he felt the cold seeping in through the glass.
“Is that… snow?”
“Aww hell.” Bo grouched “Not this shit again…”
Vincent chuckled at his brothers reactions. The sound ringing clear and unmuffled through the truck from his unmasked face.
The departure from Ambrose had necessitated quick packing by yourself and Lester - and Vincent’s masks had already been confiscated by the local authorities. It had been a rough adjustment for the long-haired man. Not being able to hide his cavernous deformity has sent him into silent depression for days.
The last time the twins had seen snow had been in 1974, right before Lester was born. The unprecedented shift in temperatures had brought a cool two inches of snow to coat the ground in Ambrose, closing shops and canceling schools until it melted.
Vincent remembered enjoying the way the white fluff had turned the streets into a sparkling kingdom, completely foreign and exciting to the young boy.
Bo had not enjoyed the snow in the slightest. This may have had something to do with their father waking them both up at the crack of dawn to shovel the walk; but he couldn’t say for sure.
Vincent’s train of thought was interrupted by Lester forcing the frozen door of the car open and immediately yelping in shock as a small hill of snow fell from the roof down the collar of his shirt.
Bo laughed at his brothers misfortune until his bruised jaw became too sore. He rubbed gingerly at his stubbly cheek until the pain abated, looking out at the snow in contemplation.
Having recovered from his snowy bath, Lester poked his head out of the car – giving a low whistle before twisting in his seat and dropping to the ground.
Another cry of consternation was heard from outside, and Vincent quickly opened his own door to see what the matter was. He leaned back in time to avoid getting snow down his own shirt, but gaped stupidly at the picture Lester made – buried nearly to his knees in freshly fallen snow.
“Is it supposed to get this deep?”
Before Vincent could answer Jonesy decided to join the fun, and leapt from the bench between Bo and him to launch herself into the snow.
The younger twin called out after the quickly retreating form of his dog before climbing out of the car and taking off after her himself.
“GET THE FUCK BACK HERE!!!” Bo roared from his seat in the car.
Lester was now chasing after Vincent who was chasing after Jonesy and Bo had had quite enough of these snowy antics thank you very much.
This was the scene you arrived back to, huffing and puffing from behind your scarf.
You stopped by Bo’s open door just in time to watch Lester trip over a hidden rock and face-plant into a snow drift.
“… what the hell?”
———————————————————————
It was Christmas Eve and you’d been snowed in.
An hour further inland and the thick flakes had started falling so hard that none of you could see more than five feet in front of the car.
Your saving grace had been the flickering neon of a 24-hour roadside diner, and once you parked, the boys had formed a single-file line through the thigh-deep snow, trying to make it easier for you and Jonesy to trudge along with them.
The warm building was manned by a single grey-haired waitress and two cooks. They were clearly surprised to see anyone braving the blizzard - all the locals having been wise enough to stay indoors during the storm.
Bo’s signature charm was enough to secure a place for Jonesy along with the four of you, and after a plateful of pancakes and potful of hot coffee everyone was feeling a bit more like themselves.
Despite the biting wind and whipping snow the mood was festive, as the TV played White Christmas and the cooks sang off-key Christmas carols from the kitchen.
Lester leaned back against the plastic booth seat and patted his stomach.
“Ooo boy that’s a good feeling. Real food. Wish ya’ll had let me stop and pick up that doe we saw – she’d make a nice stew right about now.”
Bo scoffed.
“Yeah, and where would we keep it genius? Let alone cook it. Nothin’ says ‘look at me’ more than a deer tied to your hood.”
You giggled and leaned against Vincent. The deformed twin was sitting in the furthest corner of the booth, making sure to keep his ‘bad side’ facing the wall and the beanie hat you’d bought him pulled as low as he could.
He offered you a small smile and took a sip of hot coffee, enjoying the feeling of normalcy, if only for a few hours.
The heated debate was interrupted by the waitress.
“You folks want a warm-up? It’ll be just about the only warm thing you’ll see tonight if you’re planning on braving the roads again.”
“Why Carol, you read my mind.” Bo offered the waitress a cocky smile, making her shoot him a bemused one of her own. He held out his mug and Carol filled it to the brim, snorting as Bo winked at her.
“Is he always like this?” She asked the group.
Lester and Vincent chuckled as you hummed out a sing-song “I’m afraid so… he’s a real lady-killer.”
Bo kicked at you from under the table, but you dodged and stuck out your tongue.
Vincent rapped his knuckled on the table, bringing all attention to him.
“Merry Christmas…” he said quietly.
A glance at the clock told you all that it was indeed officially Christmas morning.
You smiled, sharing warm looks with Lester and Vincent, returning the holiday sentiment. Bo looked around at you, at his brothers, at his family - bruised and broken, but somehow, still alive and together.
He raised his coffee cup as Bing and Rosemary began singing ‘White Christmas’.
“And a happy New Year…”

Eurovision 2021: My top 10 (10-6)
Haven't been using this tumblr in a while, and haven't been making individual song commentary for this year's entry, yet here I am creating a post of that probably will be the only one for a while. Was going to look at ranking entries from 2010 to 2020 but that's a bit ambitious according to my brain. Anyway, enough preamble.
Top 10 for Eurovision 2021 (according to the sorter http://esc.gerbear.com/sorter2021.htm)
10. "Voilà" -- Barbara Pravi (France)
youtube
From what I get from the lyrics of the song, it’s saying “Here I am, this is me, don’t try to change me”. Barbara is one of the key people behind France’s winning Junior Eurovision entry and who knows? She may take the title if not at least do very well.
9. “Russian Woman” -- Manizha (Russia)
youtube
It’s been a while since Russia sent in an entry in Russian (I’ll say 2009 even though there’s some Ukrainian in it, even though 2011 had its intro in Russian the song was mostly in English). Last non-English song was in 2012 when the Grannies sang in Udmurt. Maybe one day they’ll be an entry in other languages spoken in Russia. Anyway, this tune stands out to me as it’s a mishmash of things and I mean it in a good way. You have a bit of rap, a bit of folk, and an Ori Kaplan sax hook. There is female empowerment in there as well in the lyrics.
8. “Adrenalina” -- Senhit (San Marino)
youtube
This song is catchy. While it’s lyrically cheesy in parts for my taste, I can get behind the beat of it and I like the use of folk instruments in it.
7. “Birth of a New Age” -- Jeangu Macrooy (Netherlands)
youtube
I like this better than the entry he had for 2020, mainly because it’s livelier. Including Sranan Tongo is a nice touch too. Lyrically I take it as overcoming struggles and saying no matter what people do to try and take away your identity, they can’t do that.
6. “Je Me Casse” -- Destiny (Malta)
youtube
If I have to pick a “slay queen” anthem for this year, it’s definitely this song. Lyrics that stick out for me are “ So if I show some skin doesn’t mean I’m giving in” which is basically saying “just because I dress this way doesn’t mean I’m asking for it”, and “ Boy why you putting that drink in my hand Think if I’m drunk then I’d give you a chance” which is creepy when someone does that to you, but also gives hint at consent. Even if girl (or person you’re hitting on) is drunk, it doesn’t mean she/they will consent to do whatever. Overall it’s be yourself and comfortable in the skin you’re in, and if a creeper comes up to you, leave them.
And I think this has reached its limit for vids in a post, so find the rest in the next post
