s1e02 VS s2e24

I wanted to compare the conversation Osomatsu had with Chibita in s1e02 vs the conversation he had with Totoko in s2e24. Both convos regarded Osomatsu’s loneliness because his brothers were no longer with him all the time. Both times Osomatsu realized he doesn’t know his brothers all that well anymore, that things are changing, and he isn’t sure he can deal with it.

Different scenarios, but similar situations.

Despite this topic giving Osomatsu an existential crisis, Osomatsu hardly talks about it with other people. He especially never talks about it with his brothers. Which is why the fact these conversations are brought up with Chibita and Totoko, and not Karamatsu or Choromatsu, is interesting imo.

First off, Chibita and Totoko both notice Osomatsu is visibly bothered by something. So they both go out of their way to listen to him. And they each give him an item! Chibita gave Oso a beer, and Totoko gave him a handkerchief.

Then Osomatsu explains his predicament. His brothers are drifting away from him. Osomatsu is feeling lonely, and he isn’t sure if he likes how fast everything is changing. He doesn’t even know where his brothers are during the day anymore.

Unfortunately, Osomatsu’s explanation to Chibita is skipped and the scene drops straight into Chibita’s speech/reaction to whatever Osomatsu told him. But we can assume based on previous scenes what Osomatsu told Chibita:

Osomatsu noticed none of his brothers are home, and wonders where they all went. He goes on a walk and stumbles onto each of them one way or another. And every time Osomatsu interacts with them, he inevitably pisses them off or gets shunned.

And by the end of everything, Osomatsu realizes he doesn’t know his brothers as well as he used to.

Osomatsu sounds exasperated, or whimsical, while he says this. But then it cuts off to Chibita’s oden stall and Osomatsu is getting drunk because he thinks his brothers hate him. TL;DR Osomatsu probably re-told his day’s events to Chibita to explain why he’s upset.

Osomatsu’s conversation with Totoko IS shown, though. But first some context is needed. Similarly to s1e02, Osomatsu realized that he and his brothers are drifting apart after getting jobs. He doesn’t know where they are throughout the day. And when Osomatsu goes on a walk, he doesn’t encounter any of them. He’s just alone. 

Then he sits down and disassociates.

Then Totoko finds Osomatsu.

Similarly to how Chibita gave Osomatsu a beer because he noticed Osomatsu is having problems, Totoko gave Osomatsu a handkerchief. Osomatsu then tells her what’s bothering him.

Long story short: Osomatsu tells Totoko that he & his brothers got jobs because their dad collapsed. Despite getting jobs, Osomatsu doesn’t think it matters in the end. Is he actually being proper? He thinks something is missing.

While speaking, Osomatsu repeatedly uses terms like “us” and “my brothers”. Osomatsu probably used similar vocabulary while talking to Chibita.

Or 

Osomatsu repeatedly mentions his brothers throughout the conversation. He says he wants to do something for himself, then immediately brings up his brothers. Osomatsu’s decisions are not about himself, they are about him AND his brothers as a whole set. Which is a problem because it implies Osomatsu is overly dependent on them.

Anyways, this is a pitfall trap.

Here is Chibita and Totoko’s reactions once Osomatsu is done talking:

This is the key difference between the conversations. Chibita told Osomatsu to take better care of his brothers, while Totoko told Osomatsu to make decisions just for himself. And seeing how each conversation ended, it’s clear that Totoko gave Osomatsu better advice.

In the Chibita conversation, Osomatsu got angry and snapped. What Chibita told Osomatsu isn’t insightful because Osomatsu already heard this advice countless times before. Osomatsu is already aware about “him being the eldest, so he has to take care of his younger brothers” lesson. It’s not new, so Osomatsu expected a second part to Chibita’s advice. And when there wasn’t, he got mad.

Totoko’s advice is different. Totoko told Osomatsu to think for himself, and to make his own decisions. It wasn’t an entire essay or anything, but it made a huge difference to Osomatsu. I legitimately do not remember anyone else besides Totoko telling Osomatsu to just be himself, and to do what he wants without considering his brothers for once. That’s why Osomatsu is left speechless in the end. Nobody ever told him before to just do whatever he wants for the sake of himself only. It’s not about being the eldest, or his brothers, but having his own identity, etc. 

That is why there are drastic differences to the end of each conversation. Osomatsu got angry after his talk with Chibita, and stormed off while complaining about why should he be the responsible one when they are sextuplets. By contrast, Osomatsu and Totoko laughed and walked home together. Osomatsu also thanks Totoko for listening to his whining.

Similar conversations, different endings.

And again, it’s unlikely Osomatsu will talk about this specific issue with his brothers. To my knowledge, Osomatsu tries to hide these problems before actually interacting with any of them.

Before opening the door, despite being pissed at his siblings, Osomatsu got second thoughts and decided he SHOULD apologize for his behavior. Because technically, he is the eldest.

Or in the movie, Osomatsu didn’t participate in depression party (despite being equally upset by their separation when they were 18). He’s the eldest, so it’s his job to cheer everybody up... with beer!

These are some of Osomatsu’s best Big Bro moments! But it’s also an example of Osomatsu putting aside his own feelings for the sake of everybody else. This scene specifically hid Osomatsu’s face from view so we don’t know Osomatsu’s exact feelings on the matter too.

On the other hand, Osomatsu also has a habit of shutting out people either verbally or physically. In the movie, an angsty flashback featuring 18 y/o Osomatsu showcases Oso discarding Todomatsu’s problems.

Also it hides Osomatsu’s face from both 18 y/o Totty and the viewer. Whyyy.

THEN, in the futon scene where everyone is trying to sleep, only Osomatsu looks like he’s actually asleep. But he’s actually awake because that’s him talking in the text.

Everyone here is clearly stressed by their sudden division. But Osomatsu isn’t doing anything about it. He’s just shutting everybody out. So Karamatsu decides to fix the situation in the end after he receives the letter.

And besides verbal, Osomatsu also shuts people out violently/physically. That’s basically season 1 episode 24. Also obscured face again.

And again, Karamatsu tries to fix it.

TL;DR Osomatsu is unlikely to talk about his own issues with his brothers. It’s likelier that he would talk to his friends about it, like Totoko (idk about Chibita after s1e02). The parallels of s1e02 and s2e24 were interesting so I wanted to compare them.

Born & raised in Chatham, England there’s no other place like it to him. Sure when he went on holiday to the villa, it was quite nice but nothing ever beats home. He genuinely believes that he’s meant to be in this place since it’s all he’s ever known & doesn’t think he’ll live anywhere else

Raised by his nan & is an only child. Was at risk of being placed in foster care until his paternal nan came forth to raise him

His father and nan did not have the best relationship due to the way he chose to live his life and Gary was kept away from his nan until he was about 10 years of age

Does not like to talk about his birth parents due to the trauma, which is why he feels like his nan is his everything. His savior and why she means so much to him

His nan once told him that he favors his mother, Gail. He never had the chance to really know her, but was aware that she was very unhappy with herself &, “chose to be with the stars” just before his 5th birthday

That’s one of the reasons why he finds himself always looking up at the stars, usually when he’s drunk out at the docks by himself, he’ll try to talk to his mom, to know her better

Went to uni for a semester and thought about architecture as a profession but ultimately felt like uni was NOT for him and eventually juggled around with jobs until he landed into the crane operator field which he found himself to be great at

For as long as he and his nan can remember, he always loved playing with cars, ships, building Legos, (I’m American idk if this is a thing there too or it’s something different/similar so my apologies lol) and putting things together. He never cared for reading instructions, Gary’s a hands on type of guy/learner and it’s how he best communicates

He likes heights, so this job wasn’t an issue it was just getting through the program for 2-3 years that was a pain in his ass but he was determined + knew this was what he was good at and stuck with it.

It was tiring working 40 sometimes over 40 hrs a week but he’s passionate about his work so he’d never dare change it

Due to this job being a lot physically, he would use muscle cream to help his pain or pay to see a masseuse whenever he could or wasn’t being cheap about it + often buys epsom salt to bathe in 3 or so times a week 

Total penny pincher! I can see him being so, his dad told him all about how to hold onto what he’s got and always look for a bargain but with a gambler for a father, you can only imagine how that worked in his favor

Lives with his nan and doesn’t see an issue with it. His mates definitely tease him about it but know how much the woman means to him but still think it’s a major c*ck block for him but it’s a two for one package deal and anyone who doesn’t understand that doesn’t deserve him

Will probably still live in her house once IF she p*sses

Nan is a big fan of wallpaper and has one room in the flat that has squeaky plastic covering most of her furniture ( she loves furniture shopping) & only takes it off once her lady friends come over with consists of a huge cleaning routine which Gary secretly hates but pushes through it while she plays some old tunes on her jukebox

He finds himself singing those exact songs when he’s getting ready for work and actually enjoys them...but don’t ever tell his mates that!

His nan taught him basic household care & he finds himself scolding his mates for not knowing how to wash their underwear & always taking it to their mum’s or having their girlfriends do it for them

Loves washing clothes on a Sunday in the backyard + hanging them on the clothes line. His nan doesn’t believe in washer machines & makes her own detergent

He’s always down for a rooftop hangout, whether drunk or not. To be up almost as high as the stars is such a feeling or hang out with his mates laughing it up

Occasionally smokes cigarettes when he’s really stressed, he’s not proud of the nasty habit and tries his hardest to hide it from his nan & Lottie but they both know

Is in a on and off again relationship with Lottie. She’s met his nan, they both like each other. And that makes Gary extremely happy

Gary is the laid back one out of the two and Lottie is firey and needs constant reminding from Gary that he wants to be with her whereas Gary feels like that’s something she should already know and he’s told her a couple of times before, he’s sure of it. He doesn’t get why she doesn’t get that

Which results in arguments. Lottie chose to live in England for half of the year and goes back to Australia for the other half. Nan encouraged Lottie to live with the two of them until she decided to get her own place in England, or rather the two of them together. Nan doesn’t believe Gary will leave in fear of her being lonely, which she’s not! By all means, nan keeps busy! But Lottie desperately wants to have her own space with Gary away from nan, even tho she adores the spunky lady.

When they don’t see eye to eye she does what she does best and leaves, which is exhausting to Gary

They’ll go days without speaking until the other cracks. At first it would be Gary but since it’s been a year into their relationship, he’s gotten used to it and let’s her come back to him when she’s ready

He cares for Lottie, he really does. And wants this to work but he just wishes they could be more secure in their relationship.

Was a f*ckboy way back when from 18-20 and rarely there’s his old flings who show up just to cause drama knowing that Gary’s got a new girl in his life that LIVES with him, which Gary dreads that this small town knows his business. He hates confrontation but there’s one thing about Lottie, she’s never going to bite her tongue. So whenever those girls do try it with not only her but Gary she goes off.

Gary is protective too so when those messy girls start shit at the pub, he’s instantly trying to get Lottie away from the issue. Then there’s drinks flying and slap fights happening + hair pulling & they’re getting kicked out of the club/pub or even cops called on them.

“This blows. I thought you said you were trying to be better than this, Lottie.” “Me? What about those slags?! They attack not only me but your character too!” Which adds to a list of the reasons they fight.

Nonetheless they do have their fun moments together, getting drunk by the docks, getting random tattoos, hanging with his friends & their significant others, + going to the theatre

Lottie still thinks this town is very slow-pace, sleepy, cloudy and hardly has sun— which is okay to her some days but other day’s it can be dreadful and much different from her fast-pace life but she finds the little things like spending time with Gary to encourage her to stay

Gary likes playing games when he has his free time, like fortnite, red dead redemption, Final fantasy, & SUPER SMASH BROS & almost always plays with Ibrahim who informs him about new games which makes Lottie want to slam her head against the wall since that can take hours

Keeps in touch with all of the boys in villa and makes sure they have zoom meetings as much as they can because he cares about those boys. Noah tries to schedule them but usually it’s happens at random which annoys him but he gets over it. Gary spent month(s) with them. They’re basically his extended family & that’s saying a lot since he views his home to a high standard and has friends here but they’re nothing like his villa brother’s

Also into woodwork. He didn’t think he’d enjoy it but he likes to do it more when the weather gets crisp and he battles with that over cigarettes to ease his worries in life, then goes and have his daily dose of tea

Finally stopped dying his hair that awful yellow and stuck with it. Marisol was the first to see it, after an accidental FaceTime call which was supposed to be just a regular phone call but whatever? They’d all eventually see it if he EVER decided to post to his IG stories!

She compliments him in Spanish yanking her glasses off leaving him highly confused, “is that good?” “If Lottie doesn’t sit on your— which leaves Gary very wide eyed opposed to his raised brows but Marisol is cut off by Graham clearing his throat

Lottie does indeed like it & shows him how much and later asks his option on what color she should dye her hair next. 3 out of the 13 look the exact same to Gary. But he helps her dye her hair which comes out patchy but there’s no way in hell she’s letting anyone else touch her hair. She’s been doing this all on her own for some time now. Gary’s lucky she even allowed him to help her! So she dyes it back to blonde, all of it, and waits a few weeks to dye it all blue

Gary’s definitely into old boy bands especially LFO & serenades, “girl on tv” to Lottie all the time, likes 98 degrees, Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, Boys II men, & Dru Hill

As for modern day music, he LOVES to work out to tame impala which never makes sense to his mates but he usually works out the next day after getting shit-faced, he’s also in love with lizzo’s music, laundry day, brockhampton, & rina sawayama

The Villains’ Interpersonal Relationships

~I’ll start with the Shie Hassaikai~

Tengai and Rappa can’t stand each other, so they stay as far apart as possible when they can help it.

That being said, Tengai feels a sort of responsibility for Rappa’s actions, so he tries to stay aware of what Rappa is doing at all times.

Setsuno, Hojo, and Tabe are practically inseparable.

This is best illustrated when Tabe drags his friends to the kitchen to get a snack, rather than going by himself.

Hojo will straight up throw hands with whoever tries to hurt Setsuno and Tabe.

When Setsuno is upset, Tabe goes out of his way to make him smile.

Rappa and Katsukame are either at each others' throats or punching someone through a wall for insulting the other. There’s no in between.

Hojo and Nemoto get along well.

Sakaki actually really respects Nemoto for how put together he seems. Still thinks he needs to loosen up a little, though.

Nemoto is jealous of Hari for how close he is to Overhaul

Hari ignores this to avoid conflict

Nemoto always tries to “correct” the others (especially Hari) when they do something he thinks Overhaul wouldn’t like. It’s mostly little stuff that doesn’t really matter.

Basically Nemoto just really wants Overhaul to notice him (poor bby)

It’s an unhealthy relationship, someone please help him.

Setsuno, Tabe, and Sakaki are a little bit scared of Rappa and Katsukame (can you blame them?)

Tengai sometimes feels like a failure for letting his life get to this.

Tengai enjoys talking to Hojo, Hari, and Setsuno

Hari often gets frustrated when trying to brush his hair. Usually has Overhaul or Tengai help him.

Rappa and Irinaka get on each others’ nerves

Irinaka secretly wonders why certain members of the Hassaikai *cough cough* Rappa *cough* are still around. Knows not to question his boss, though.

Setsuno and Sakaki drink together.

Nemoto sometimes vents to Hojo.

Actually, everyone vents to Hojo. He’s a good listener, and less likely to make a harsh (but usually true) statement about your life choices than Tengai.

It sometimes bothers him, but he doesn’t really say anything about it.

Hari, Nemoto, and Setsuno are secretly always worried about Sakaki

He’d probably cry if he found out that they actually cared about him.

Nemoto has a soft spot for Setsuno

Katsukame is the furthest from a morning person that someone can be.

Tengai is in charge of getting him up.

Katsukame is *slightly* insecure about his size. He covers it up with aggression. This sparks the majority of the fights between him and Rappa.

Katsukame is actually pretty close to Irinaka (and not just when he gives smol Irinaka piggy-back rides). Katsukame may or may not be a little jealous of him because he can downsize whenever he wants to.

Rappa and Katsukame can sometimes be protective of each other, though they’ll never admit it.

Basically, they’re ~bros~.

Tengai acts like he hates his job, but he kind of likes having friends.

Somewhere along the line, Rappa started focusing less on beating Overhaul and more on being a good friend to the others.

Because he was in a street gang as a kid before becoming a fighter (I’m 74% sure it’s canon), he sort of missed that particular sense of friendship and camaraderie.

Still 100% wants to beat Overhaul, it’s just on the back burner for now.

~Now, the League of Villains (...this post is going to be so long)~

Canonically, Twice and Toga are friends.

Twice likes Toga because she accepts and  is kind to him regardless of his flaws, and Toga likes twice for pretty much the same reasons. (Kinda random but I hate when people ship them because she’s 17 and he’s like 30 and I ugghghhgghhhh)

Dabi sees Toga as a little sister and would do anything (within reason) for her.

He sees Twice as a brother and will sometimes discreetly distract him from splitting by talking to him.

As much as Dabi likes to tease Spinner and Shigaraki, he’d stand up for them if anyone else tried to hurt them.

Dabi won’t admit that he’s gotten attached to anyone though, and will act offended if confronted with evidence.

Twice is almost overbearingly supportive of everyone in the league.

Besides Toga, Spinner appreciates it the most. It helps him take his mind off of other things. Big Sis Magne.

Even though they’re not as Stain-obsessed as him, Spinner really appreciates his fellow league members. Finally, he’s found people who not only accept him, but think he’s cool.

Mr. Compress and Kurogiri like to have intellectual discussions when everyone else is asleep or busy with something else.

Mr. Compress sometimes helps Kurogiri at the bar.

Mr. Compress likes showing his magic tricks to Twice, because it’s not hard to get an amazed reaction from him.

Shigraki is secretly really grateful for the league. As friends, not just tools to accomplish a mission. He tries to hide it, but Dabi picks up on it easily. Dabi never says anything because he’s in a similar situation.

Those two understand each other in a weird way.

Shigaraki has also grown to appreciate and respect Kurogiri more than he did when they first met.

Whenever Shigaraki has to ~deal with~ someone, he tries to take it outside so Kurogiri doesn’t have to clean up the ashes.

Kurogiri genuinely cares for everyone in the league, especially Shigaraki. He doesn’t outright say so because emotions make Shigaraki nervous.

When Mr. Compress loses his arm, everyone sort of drops the act for a bit to make sure he’s okay.

Even after he has his prosthetic, everyone still acts concerned for him and tries to make him as comfortable as possible.

Mr. Compress has always been more independent than not, so it embarrasses part of him to have everyone fussing over his injury, but a larger part of him is touched and enjoys their attention.

Spinner is also accommodated a bit because he was the closest to Magne. He stays in his room for a while, so Kurogiri, Twice, and Toga alternate between who brings him food.

Dabi even stops teasing him for a while. He knows how it feels to have to leave loved ones behind subtle Touya Todoroki reference.

If Shigaraki feels it’s been too long since someone checked up on Spinner, he’ll force someone to. He says he only cares because he can’t have non-functioning league members, but he really does care about Spinner.

~How about a weird AU where the league and Shie Hassaikai eventually join forces and don’t try to kill each other everytime they meet.~

Overhaul and Shigaraki share leadership responsibilities, but not well.

Most executive decisions are actually made by Kurogiri, because he often mediates their arguments. Despite being a part of the league, Overhaul respects his level-headedness, and in return, Kurogiri keeps Overhaul’s goals in mind.

Spinner carries a subconscious resentment of Overhaul, both for killing Magne, and his indiscriminate disregard for human life that goes against Stain’s ideals.

Spinner doesn’t like to talk to most of the Hassaikai, but he gets along well with Setsuno, Tabe, and Hojo.

Twice is the only sparring opponent that Rappa consistently holds back on. He’d never forgive himself if Twice got hurt because of him.

On one occasion, Toga got ahold of Sakaki’s sake. She didn’t like it but she drank enough to cause significant  trouble for everyone else for a while.

Hari and Dabi hang out sometimes.

Shigaraki and Overhaul have the potential to get along. Like, if they were drunk and locked in a room for a while, and one of them kind of opened up about his past, they’d find out that they have more in common than they thought. Afterwards, they’re still both prideful little gremlins, but they’re more willing to cut each other some slack and move on from an argument. I’m not saying I’d write a oneshot if you asked but I’d totally write a oneshot if you asked.

Dabi and Rappa like to prank Nemoto.

Nemoto doesn’t really like the alliance, but wouldn’t dare disagree with Overhaul.

Nemoto appreciates Kurogiri’s honesty.

Kurogiri eventually comes to care about the Hassaikai like he does the league.

Irinaka displays a surprising amount of patience with Katsukame (though from him, any amount of patience is surprising).

They can sometimes be protective of each other, though they’ll never admit it.

Tengai likes Kurogiri because he helps keep Rappa in check.

Nemoto and Mr. Compress gossip about everyone else.

Tengai, Hojo, and Kurogiri are the stoic introvert dream team.

Toga actually gets along with Irinaka. At first, Irinaka found her annoying because she likes to put him on her lap whenever he’s in his small form, but he grew to like her enthusiastic demeanor.

Sakaki likes Twice because he can clone sake bottles, and all of his good qualities (read: all of his qualities) are amplified when he’s drunk.

Katsukame finds most of the league annoying because they make noise and often interfere with his sleep schedule. Kind of likes Toga’s spunk though.

Like Spinner, Toga’s also still upset with the Hassaikai for killing Magne, but she grows to associate that event more with Overhaul than anyone else.

Setsuno brings out the sweet side in Toga, and she can often be seen comforting him and/or making death threats to his ex.

Dabi likes to hang around Sakaki, because he’ll sometimes drunkenly offer him alcohol.

Tabe and Hojo are slightly suspicious of the league’s motives for the alliance, but they appreciate Toga’s care for Setsuno.

Tabe and Twice are friends. They just are. You can’t convince me otherwise.

Hojo and Dabi have a habit of making really awkward small talk. If one walks into a room the other is in, rather than ignoring each other or starting an actual conversation, they’ll talk about the weather for 15 minutes.

To the people who actually read this whole thing: are you okay?

Now that I think about it, if y’all want to request fics of some (or all) of these boys (and girl) just being wholesome and caring about each other go right ahead

Sanders Sides Theory: The Second Pair of Twins

We all know Remus and Roman are twins, but I don’t think they are the only sides who are twins. If we look at Roman and Remus, they have some of the same features including the sash, the collar, the boots, and they contrast each other nicely, especially they represent the light and dark side of creativity. You can clearly tell they are related to each other in some way. Well, which of the other two aspects also look related in some way?

Logan and Patton.

I say this because I’ve been noticing it for a while now, but isn’t it kind of odd to think that Logan and Patton not only have the same glasses, but each have something around their neck and wear polos, belts and dress shoes? I don’t think the different colors here matter all that much, except this time Patton and Logan’s colors are very close together.

Yes, they started with the same glasses and similar designs, but I think Thomas, Joan, and team are using what happened in the first 10-11ish episodes and work that in the lore that they built on later. In the Behind the scenes video, even before Deceit was mentioned, Thomas said it was important to mention how Anxiety/Virgil was introduced at Episode 3 and slowly became a part of the group. Which means that although the characterizations of the characters at that time were incorrect, the plot of those first few episodes still remain cannon. If Thomas or Joan wanted to change Patton or Logan’s designs even further before or during the Fitting In video because they felt like he needed to, they could’ve. But he didn’t.

I think the biggest amount of evidence for this theory comes from the “Why do we get out of bed in the morning?” video. In this video, there were a lot of references to Remus the “twinster” app being one of them. There was also a moment, where Roman calls Logan, Patton. “True that, Pat.” And Logan responds with. “I’m Logan.” Then Roman says “Oh shoot, it’s the glasses.” But, here’s the most important phrase. “I don’t believe you. I think you’re just being a jerk.” Now Roman does look a little bit hurt afterwards, but this brings to light something important about Logan’s character. He hates getting compared to Patton.

Why? He describes himself as “Serious business” and describes Patton as “Silliness”, so he wants everyone to know that there is a difference between them. Why does he have to keep reminding everyone then? Is it because they are also twins? Here’s some more evidence for this.

Roman calls Logan “dad” after Logan talks about some healthy habit and Patton pops up. Roman then admits he was making fun of Logan. Logan actually does something similar later on when he describes chimerical, points at the floor, and says “unchecked imagination” or in other words “you’re acting like your brother.” Roman also makes another jest at Logan, saying his twin kind of looks like him using the twinster app.

So, is Why Do We Get Out Of Bed In The Morning just a whole bunch of Logan and Roman using their twin to insult the other side? Maybe, but I think the biggest evidence that Patton actually has a brother if not a twin comes from the family tree at 20:14 in that video. Below is a crappy picture of Roman’s with a line drawn off-screen, which the team confirmed they put to reference Remus.

If you look a little bit closer down the line, Patton has one too, but you can tell it isn’t as noticable.

So even if Logan isn’t Patton’s twin, there is evidence that at least Patton has one. And you know what? It might be Virgil because Thomas at one time did say that Virgil and Patton were two sides of the same coin at Austrailia Vidcon 2018, much like he said with Remus and Roman, but for now, the evidence points to Logan. When Patton said those little things like “He’s my hero” or “You are so smart you can solve anything” that may have been Patton looking up to his bro. But, below is some evidence disproving all of these facts above.

Here’s the thing about this theory: The orange side may be Patton’s twin or the team may never say in cannon if Patton actually has a twin or not. I know that if this theory does get confirmed cannon, there will be a HUGE uproar in the fandom. Like...worse than the deceit uproar and even worse than the Crayon Theory fiasco.

Another thing, I don’t think Thomas would have us shipping incest if he knew that they were twins in the first place. Now granted, most of the fandom had shipped logicality since the Heart vs. Mind episode and Thomas didn’t have anything really figured out back then except one-off episodes, but if Thomas was going to make that move I think he would tell us. So a possible explanation for all of this was that Thomas/Joan was going to make it real, but after seeing how much fun the fans have with the ship, the decided to just leave it for others to interpret.

Everyone meet Warai Fukukado!!

Personality:

Warai is a very happy seeming person. She's always smiling and laughing. She just wants her friends to be happy, and cause of her quirk she tries to stay as happy as she can! Only a very few including her sister have seen her cry in like 9 years, she isolates when she feels bad to not affect others.

She can't bring herself to hate anyone, if she's mad at you you messed up-

She's rather clumsy and always covered in bruises and other injuries. She powers through all pain unless she's actually dying, only then she goes to recovery girl.

She's really smart, getting As all the time. Bakugou's jealous lmao-

Backstory:

Warai's quirk developed rather weirdly. At first it only was positive emotions that she could control. So they named her quirk “Elation” at first.

Emi's and Warai's parents died on the day she turned 6. That's when the negative side of her quirk developed. She hates it, and her birthday because of it. She refuses to tell anyone her birthday.

Warai failed the entrance exam for U.A.'s Hero Course and refused to accept her sisters recommendation. She easily got into the Support Course.

Relationships:

Emi

Her older sister, by 14 years. They love each other, more than anything. The only thing Warai wished for is people would stop expecting her to be just like her sister. Warai's always expected to be just like her.

I love colour related stuff so fun fact. Warai doesn't even actually like the orange she wears. It's literally just the symbolisation of people shoving her into her sisters accomplishments. Warai's actual favourite colour is purple.  

Hitoshi Shinsou

Her best friend. She befriended him by annoying him and following him around till he told her to just leave him alone. Next day she did so, but suddenly not having the loud gremlin by his side felt weird. They have a similar dynamic to Mic and Aizawa. Maybe it's a bit more-

She calls him Toshi.

Mei Hatsume

They always get into messes in class and the labs together. They're classmates and pretty good friends.

Tenya Iida

Childhood friends. Emi and Tensei were classmates at U.A. and pretty good friends. He's one of the few people who know when her birthday is. He knows she hates it but still gets her a small gift each year. He knows more than he lets on.

The Bakusquad

Warai is lowkey part of the Bakusquad. She makes them all their support gear. Obvi she's friends with them all.

But especially Bakugou. She managed to impress him when they first met. (I can go into detail how they met if anyone wants to know.)

I have this hc that as a kid Bakugou always wanted a little sibling, just to be a cool big bro and show them everything. He highkey projects that onto Warai. And she picks up on some of his habits.

Fun facts:

Warai has a cat named Ender.

She loves animal themed clothes, mostly frogs and cats.

Warai prefers to go by her first name to avoid people constantly bringing up her sister.

Bird girl.

Mic is her favourite hero. Emi is offended.

Her hammers and her boots are her main gadgets. The hammer has too many functions to list rn. But her boots just yeets her very high in the air, bouncy boots for high jumping and extreme kicking-

She's had/will have two different traumatic villain experiences.

Warai has a notebook, a lot like Midoriya's. Full of infos about others quirks and new inventions. And doodles. Warai's a genius so her notes look a lot different from Mido's. He wants to get his hands on that notebook really badly. Bakugou told her not to give it to him, she uses that as a cover up lmao. Real reason she doesn't want him to have it is all the doodles.

Why... Why didn't he realize it sooner? All this time you were part of Yakuza and now he was forced to be a part of it...

Or so you thought. The rule is simple you stay or you die... Ryoma picked the second option.

He whouldn't make himself a puppet and he whouldn't forgive you for this either.

He actually rathers death than even trying to run becouse now he has no reason to continue whatever hell it is.

He should have known that happiness wasn't meant for him and he learnt it the hardest way possible.

Kirumi Tojo

She didn't knew what to do or think honestly. You betrayed her but she still felt something for you.

But of course she can't be with someone who forced her into Yakuza... Still she was doing anything that was expected from her.

The only person she didn't listen to was you. Since last time she did it she ended up in this situation.

In general she avoided you at all cost but when she couldn't she spoke formally with you and her tone was allways cold...

From that time nobody has ever seen her caring side. She didn't care about anything or anyone.

Gonta Gokuhara

Gonta was confused about everything and kept asking questions.

He didn't wanted to do any of Yakuza duties but he was forced to do it. With someone as strong as he was your clan was unstoppable.

It left huge mental impact on him and he began to be more and more scared. He couldn't run because he didn't wanted to hurt more people even if they were bad.

Because if he wasn't himself he would have made it out easily without any problems... But this is Gonta not some kind of terminator.

He often cried himself to sleep thinking that you of all people did it. Surely he also avoided you and even though it was rude he didn't speak to you at all.

Miu Iruma

Her genius inventions whould surely be useful so all she needed to do was invent. But she couldn't belive that she was in this mess.

She cursed at you each time she saw your face and threatened you often.

Like she literally tried to kill you... When she was making an invention that was going to protect you she actually made it a "head squisher" to say it nicely. Luckily for you you weren't first person to try the invention on.

She so was planning escape and revenge. I mean you gave her all materials she needed to make herself uncomfortable but she planned this far ahead.

He didn't understand why this was happening and he did resist but after threats that you whould delete his code and replace it with something more suitable for yakuza he stopped and gave in.

But you were going to change his code either way. Keebo was just too... Weak emotionally for shit he whould do.

So you lost your boyfriend and gained a weapon. Now K1B0 isn't anymore your sweet Keebo... Not gonna lie you will miss him but who cares at this point about some stupid emotions?

Kaede Akamatsu

She was adapting to situation surprisingly well. Even though you betrayed her she didn't look at you the way you thought she whould.

Few days later you lern that she had first attempt of sabotaging your clan. Afterwards she didn't hide her true feelings now that her cover was blown.

She looked at you with annoyed expression and whould refuse to speak with you. She was heartbroken.

She managed to hold back her tears around you but when she was alone she was crying.

Kaito Momota

Oh he really expressed verbally what he thought about this all. Did he hit you? He wanted to but he was warned that if he harms you in any way then he's dead.

He wanted to believe in you. He really did some part of him even thought that he wasn't looking at you.

But he knew that he's just hoping for something unreal so he accepted it. You weren't the person he met and fall for and he was an idiot to think otherwise.

He was stubborn since there is no way he whould let himself be used as a godamn toy.

Every day he thought of a way to get out of this mess but alone he couldn't do anything.

Still he didn't give up no matter what you whould do he whouldn't lose hope.

Angie Yonaga

At first she thought you were joking. After all why whould Atua chose you for her if you were going to do such a thing.

But it turns out you were as serious as she didn't wanted you to be.

She started thinking why you whould do it but it doesn't matter at all.

She tried to trick your people into setting her free but it didn't work. No matter what she did or said she couldn't get out of this mess.

But she was still smiling her eyes grew dark when she saw you and you could feel her deadly glare but you didn't care enough.

Shuichi Saihara

He knew too well about the fact that now that he knows about the Yakuza he has to either die or join it. Since your clan was more of a secret one.

Of course he didn't give up on his life so he joined you.

He didn't look you in the eye and alredy came up with a plan to defeat you. To do that he was cooperating with whatever your clan wanted from him.

You were surprised that he didn't resist but you also often saw him in his free time closed in his room but since he couldn't lock the doors you could open it and nobody whould stop you.

Each time you saw exact same image... Him sitting in the corner looking at the ground beneath him his back facing the door.

After so many successful missions and years of him being 'part of the family' your clan trusted him enough to send him as a double agent. Wich was their mistake.

Everyone was arrested including you. And last time you saw him he looked serious and in his eyes you saw disgust. Last thing he ever said to you was plain "Bye".

Tenko Chabashira

(if you are a boy) She should have listened to her master and stay away from you. He was right that males were bad but this? This was just too much.

(if you are a girl) She was shocked about it. You were allways so kind gentle and amazing she can't believe that you whould do something like this.

(rest of the scenario) Breaking up with you was something she didn't had to do since you both were aware that becouse of your little scheme you aren't dating anymore.

Tenko was strong and you used her strength well. She was too scared to not listen... She was too scared to run... It felt like a huge trap and she couldn't do anything.

So in the end she had to work for you until you didn't need her anymore wich means death to her.

Rantaro Amami

Of course you made him join by using his sisters as a bait. Becouse of just this fact alone you knew that you were now no longer a pair.

As long as he cooperated the girls whould be okay. So he had no choice.

He didn't treat you with silence so when you had something to say to him he whould give you the most plain response.

And this continued over and over Rantaro kept thinking why he was so blind to fall for you. Even though he didn't knew anything about you being a Yakuza you still threw some of red flags he wasn't able to see over his love for you.

Kokichi Ouma

He agreed only becouse he knew that D.I.C.E was probably your next target to pull into your stupid yakuza bullshit.

So it was his condition wich you agreed to but both of you knew you lied to him. Sooner or later your people caught his people "Now we are like a big family!" wich he only responded by smiling at you but this smile was filled with hatred.

He was making things harder and often sabotaged you but you let him live since you had control of him not the other way around.

You made sure the D.I.C.E members were separated so they couldn't work together in order to escape. Many people at your clan were annoyed by the clowns but they were very valuable to make Kokichi give in.

But no matter what strings you pulled this puppet was doing whatever it wanted.

Himiko Yumeno

At first everyone questioned your choice but she still had to go through all yakuza duty. She wasn't strong and so she often was close to her own death.

By that time it was obvious she hated you. She allways repeated it whenever she saw you come towards her "Go away I hate you!"

She was scared and couldn't even psychically do any task that was given to her so she went through cruel training.

Her fragile body couldn't take the training however and one day she died during it from exhaustion.

Maki Harukawa

She should have expected it. I mean you two got together after she told you her real puppet.

By now she was used to being used as a puppet to kill and she didn't fight it.

But each time she saw you you could feel the hostility coming from her. She hated you and you couldn't blame her.

Maki wanted to kill you but she couldn't since second she stabs you she whould get killed by other member of yakuza.

Korekiyo Shinguji

The last thing he said to you was "Kukuku... So your true nature was actually ugly... Too bad I didn't see through it".

You didn't shove him away when he told you that in reality he used to kill people before he met you and that made him fall even more for you but now it all didn't matter.

You kept the relationship going just so you could trap him back into his killing habit.

Each time you needed a woman dead you gave that task to him and he hated you for that since he realized how fucked up what he used to do was.

Still he couldn't disobey but after all what whould be death for him really...

After some time he stopped caring about any of this. And he ended up killing himself...

But before he did that he killed you in your sleep. That revenge felt a bit too good for him really...

Tsumigi Shirogane

She couldn't belive something like this whould happen to someone like her. It all felt like a nightmare that she whould wake up from but it never happened.

It's obvious that she wasn't happy about your betrayal. But why whould she be really.

Still she was too scared of you to disobey you. So she did whatever you told her to.

So it was a training she was too weak for something actually good. It didn't go easy on her and it lasted for many months before she was anyhow useful.

Her spirit broke by that time she didn't care about a thing. She was in despair but her face didn't show any emotion.

›› ✱ xavier serrano, cismale, he/him. you’ve met calvin marx, right? they’re around twenty-three and a twitch streamer. they’re all about thrift store clothing and the faint smell of cologne and cigarettes, hence why they’re known as the spitfire around town. everyone knows them to be pretty gregarious but i’ve heard they’re actually sort of volatile, too… don’t tell them i said that, okay?

...001. BRIEF HISTORY.

calvin grew up very underprivileged for the first 11 years of his life in brooklyn, ny.

his father died when he was 5 years old to a drug overdose, leading his mother became a single mother to him and his younger sister, essentially meaning that calvin had to grow up and be the ‘man of the house’ without having a choice.

because of her new single-mother status, calvins mother had to work 3 different jobs in order for the family to pay rent (a cleaner in mornings, a store assistant in the day and a bartender in the evenings), which meant she was rarely home and left calvin to raise both himself and younger sister.

from a very early age, it was apparent that calvin suffered from anger issues, dyslexia and adhd, constantly getting into fights at every opportunity, his complete inability to focus and never managing to make it through a week at school without a phone call home.

these issues remained untreated, due to his mother putting it down to the ‘boys will be boys’ ideology, and concluding that calvin was just an energetic one at that.

because of this, calvin fell into the wrong crowd pretty quickly and settled into his mindset that he was never going to achieve all that much anyway, because no matter how hard he tried, he could never score well on any test at school.

at the age of 9, calvins mother met, fell in love with and soon married a former client for whom she cleaned for.  calvins new step father was incredibly wealthy, due to being a successful franchisee and also being very largely into stock trading.

calvin, his sister and mother were all moved to his home in cherrybrooks, which calvin struggled to adjust to, as he missed his friends back north.

now having access to as much money as he want led him down an early path into experimenting with drugs and alcohol, which soon became a bad habit.

although he wanted to drop out of school, his new step-father would not allow it, which became a large source of conflict for the family over the course of the next few years.

failing to graduate high school at age eighteen, calvin couldn’t deal with living with his family any more and left the house to move into a small apartment, 30 minutes away, with a roommate (possibly a member of the clique).

calvins only real passions were for gaming and sport, and as he smoked and did way too many drugs to make it in any sporting profession, he turned his attention to twitch streaming. he began this pretty soon and built up a solid fanbase (which he wanted to call the marxists, but in calvins words, apparently some dead man already claimed that title).

...002. PERSONALITY.

calvin is a naturally angry person who can lose his cool and go from 0 to 100 in a matter of seconds, he rarely gives off signs that he is getting angry until he boils over, so people tend to watch what they say around him.

calvin is self-serving, his feelings will always come before those around him. although he is getting better at managing this, if something will result in calvin gaining something at the expense of somebody else, he will most likely go ahead with it.

calvin is not well educated, so he doesn’t tend to enjoy arguing with words, as he can never seem to find the ones to correctly express how he feels. instead, calvin is much more likely to act physically when something has irritated him (whether this be on a person or inanimate object).

calvin is an awful liar, he cannot lie to save his life as his face always tends to show when he doesn’t agree with an idea/opion/thought that somebody says. because of this, he is very outspoken, and will just say what he’s thinking regardless of if it’s going to hurt somebodies feelings. he’d rather upset them with the truth, than get caught out for lying.

calvin is an extrovert and gains energy from being around people - the more people the better, because of this, he has become a major party animal and loves attending any and all parties that is going on, despite if he’s fond of the hosts or not.

calvin is a heavy user of drugs, alcohol & cigarettes. this is primarily down to his naturally addictive personality and constant need to feel like he’s happy, so that he doesn’t get sad again. there will rarely be a day where he will not  be intoxicated in some way and he will have a cigarette at least once an hour – and that’s on a good day.

calvin is very much into sports. although not a natural athlete, nor somebody interested in playing sports competitively, calvin loves watching any and all sports, and he likes to play them when he can. due to his smoking habit, he can’t play sports for too long, but will always give it a good go.

similarly to this, calvin is very much into gaming. calvin loves fast-paced games, because they manage to keep his attention despite him not having a very long attention span. most games that he plays are first person shooters, and he’s usually the guy on the mic screaming when a teammate fucks up during online play. a big appeal to him was that games were the only thing he could focus his mind on as a child.

calvin is very much a boys boy, he genuinely abides by the bible of ‘ bros before hoes ‘ because he’s stupid.

calvin hates movies but loves tv, he finds that watching moves involves sitting still for too long, but tv allows him to take more breaks and keeps his interest for longer. although. he’d probably trade both of them for a chance to leave the house.

CURRENT BEST FRIENDS — Possibly a boy squad? I live for a good boy squad. This person will have similar interests to Calvin, or be able to tolerate his volatile mood.

CHILDHOOD BEST FRIENDS — Someone with a similar upbringing from Brooklyn, most likely they grew apart when Calvin moved to Wilmington.

RIDE OR DIES — Although he primarily looks out for himself, I’m down to have Calvin have one person who he’s loyal to and will refuse to betray, we can come up with a fun reason for why he cares so much if you’re interested in this one.

HIS ROOMMATE — Somebody that moved with Calvin into his current apartment when he moved out at 18.

A GOOD INFLUENCE ON CALVIN — One of my favorite connections for Calvin to have is somebody who knows all of his flaws and attempts to help fix them. They’ll have to be patient, though, as Calvin doesn’t see himself for having any issues.

SOMEBODY HE IS A BAD INFLUENCE OF — On the opposite, I love when Calvin has somebody that he can introduce to bad things, corrupt easily and get a kick out of watching the commotion.

EXES ON BAD TERMS — Cheating on each other is usually an easy one to go with, but if you want, we can think of something more unique as to how it all fucked up and why they now hate each other.

EXES ON GOOD TERMS — Maybe they still occasionally fuck? There could still be an attraction there, but just no romantic chemistry. Alternatively, they tried it and both just couldn’t see it going anywhere.

EXES WITH LINGERING FEELINGS — There’s a ton of different reasons for why there’s still lingering feelings. The feelings could be one-sided or both ways.

EX FLINGS — Started as friends with benefits, one of them wanted more, the other didn’t, they decided to stop before someone got hurt.

FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS — No romantic intention, just a good way to kill time at 2 AM, or maybe it’s easy to know you have someone to go home to if you don’t find someone at a party.

ENEMIES — Despise each other, seeing this person literally makes Calvins blood boil. Possibly sexual tension too if that would work, if not, they can just fight a lot.

WILL THEY / WON’T THEY — Lots of leading on and teasing each other, maybe they both think they’re stringing the other along but it turns out neither of them are interested? Maybe they start out not interested and it backfires later, by that time the other could’ve lost interest.

If the Avengers and HOO/BOO characters came together

Clint Barton would immediately make a fatherly connection with all. of. them. Especially Percy, who’s dealt with a lot of abuse for a majority of life because of Smelly Gabe. Clint is kinda just the man that Percy needs in his life.

Percy would also grow close with Tony and Natasha; seeing as they all have a similar sense of humor and have a habit of pissing off the wrong people. The three of them understand each other in ways other people never possibly could. And the three of them all on the same team? That’s one hell of a sass team.

You might think Percy, Nat and Tony together are too much to handle; but just wait when Leo gets in the mix.

Percy also seems to really like being around Sam Wilson as well—but they definately have a “dude/bro” kinda relationship rather than a father/son relationship. They share a lot of inside jokes, and have similar personalities.

Percy and Bucky definately have some kind of friendship/father/son going also; they’ve both experienced things that no one ever should. They’ve both been traumatized and tortured in ways others couldn’t ever imagine. Bucky, who had managed to overcome most of his trauma, teaches Percy how to come to terms with his own and vise/versa. They also tend to share their own stories when the time is right. These two really understand each other.

In the end, Percy has a really good relationship with all of the Avengers. He’s just too easy to get along with if your vibe matches. Percy’s loyal and (sometimes) reasonable, which is why he’s so widely trusted and easily considered reliable among the team.

Natasha would absolutely become like a mentor to Piper. She would teach Piper how to be a badass and fly asf all at the same time when needed—they’d either become like sister or mother & daughter, I still can’t decide which.

“You are strong, beautiful, and powerful.” Natasha reminded Piper, who was mervous for her first mission with the team, “nothing can beat you. Remember that.”

Also, Peter P. definately as a huge crush on Piper.

Don’t tell Jason.

Leo and Pietro are hella troublesome, like, they’re both so hyper and fast paced that everyone has a hard time keeping up with them. But they can keep up with each other just fine, which makes them the perfect fit, ya know? They’re basically the best brother/brother duo to ever exist.

Leo would also get along hella good with Thor—they both have the same kind of cocky behavior on the outside, but on the inside they’re both really unsure of themselves and they can bond over that

Leo also gains a father/son connection with Tony. They’re both really in tune with engineering and creating things, they can teach each other. Best of all, Leo helps Tony improve his products to help build up his industry even more.

And Leo loves helping Tony create the best suits for the rest of the team—when they work together on these londs of things, you can expect it to be hella advanced.

“You’re going places, kid,” Tony oftened praised, which was a big change for Leo. No one ever really noticed his talent. “I’m sure of it.”

Just like with Pietro, Leo and Peter P. have a good relationship also. They’re both really smart and quick in similar ways, but also very differently.

Steve is the kinda guy Nico needs in his life—Cap is lighthearted, understanding, and trustworthy. Because Hades isn’t always so dependable, Steve is the man Nico turns to for actual good advice because he knows Steve can be trusted.

But because Nico can really appreciate comfortable silence, he and Bucky vibe pretty well. They aren’t awkward around each other, and both have experienced similar trauma. That being said, they all understand what it’s like to be thrown into a completely different time period. It’s something that Nico, Steve and Bucky can relate to.

But unlike Nico, Hazel and Wanda finds themselves drawn to each other. Like sisters, mostly. They know what it’s like to be treated like their weird; with Hazel’s mortal mother being a ‘witch’ and Wanda pretty much being a witch herself, it kinda just pulls them to each other.

Jason and Thor would be pretty tense—with Thor being the god of thunder and Zeus the god of lightning, they just have an unspoken mindset that wants to prove which is better than the other. BUT there are times when the two work together very well; they have a very strange love/hate relationship, kind of like an older brother and a younger brother. In the end, they DO care for and appreciate one another.

Jason would also probably look up to Steve, hoping that one day he could be as 'righteous’ and as good of a leader. The Roger’s man is strong and intimidating when he has to be, but friendly and laid back on the regular.

Jason and Nat would both probably have a pretty big brother/sister relationship. They had both been trained young to fight and show no merch, both their parents sucked. It was like they had lived the same lives with the same parents, despite not ever knowing the other had existed.

“We’ve lived rough lives,” Natasha once said, “but only so that we can provide better ones, safer ones, for the people who can’t do it themselves. It had to be us.”

Just like Percy, Jason and Sam have a “dude/bro” kind of relationship. And the three of them often hang out in Sam’s apartment making stupid jokes and messing around. It’s nice to have some mortal friends that can introduce them to normal human things, and Sam does just that.

Frank and Clint definately hit it off pretty good. Sooner or later, the two of them become like father/son like Clint does with all of them. But they’re different. The two of them fight back-to-back with their bow and arrows and together, they’re basically unstoppable. On missions, the rest of the team usually like to say things like, “we’re gonna need our favorite archers for this one”

Frank, for the most part, tried to avoid Tony. The Stark man just gets on his nerves sometimes with his cocky attitude. But, Frank’s a pretty reasonable person. He pushes aside his channeling resentment when it’s time to get serious.

Much like Hazel, Frank gets along well with Wanda. They have pretty strange powers, and when the time is right, like to show off to each other what they can do. It’s not a competition; they’re just genuinely interested in the things one another can do.

Thor and the Stoll brothers would drfinately welcome each other with wide open arms. They have similar humors and personalities, and after losing his chance to truly make Loki his brother, he finds that Connor and Travis Stoll are the younger brothers he needed all along. In a way, they’re just Loki—but kind of a better version of him. Thor doesn’t doubt for a second that Loki and the Stoll’s would’ve appreciated each other’s company.

Also, these kids would def love Stephen Strange, and Stephen Strange would def love them, too. They each have abilities they’ve never even imagined having, and Strange has no problem helping them reach their full potential.

But most importantly, Stephen would see HUGE potential in Annabeth. So he would take her under his wing and teach her to do the things he knows how to do; it just fits so well.

And overtime, he begins to father her more than he mentors her. Because Stephen knows that Annabeth could never really come to terms with her mortal father—he was just too misunderstanding toward her, it was toxic. At this point, he’s like her emotional support.

And Annabeth is so smart and strategic, Stephen is just so frickin proud of how far she’s come as she really begins to understand the concept of his magic. And just like with Chiron, Annabeth looks up to Strange. She just wishes she had run into him earlier. Maybe then she and Percy wouldn’t have had to suffer through Tartarus and all that. Maybe she could’ve protected Thalia all those years ago.

And Stephen may not ever have his own kids, but having Annabeth often refer to him as her father makes his nose tingle emotionally. Her biological father had really given up something that could’ve been a truly amazing aspect in his life.

“I’m proud of you, Annabeth. I really am.”

And Annabeth almost cried, thankful that someone other than Percy really appreciated her talents.

That’s what really needed in the end—recognition, support, and for people like Leo or Nico, all they needed was some sort of family that could see not their flaws, but their potential.

Small Hot Chocolate, No Whip (Chapter 5)

Chapter 5: Connor

When Connor was little and things weren't so hard he went on a family trip to Kings Island. His dad bought him and Zoe orange sherbet push up popsicles and his mom took them on the carousel. Zoe convinced him to go on the roller coaster with her even though he was scared and got nauseous easily. It didn't end well. He threw up the second he was off the ride and later fainted out of a combination of fear and the heat. On the ride home he curled up in the seat beside Zoe and asked her about what had happened. He was still woozy and the events of the day blurred.

"I'll tell you if you want but I think you'd rather not know," she had said. She said something similar the night after his fight with Evan.

He had a raging headache and his mouth tasted like dirt but he wanted to know.

"He brought you home dummy. He went and found you and brought your drunk ass home," she said. "That's not his job you know?"

"I know it isn't," he said, putting his aching head in his hands. "I've really fucked myself over haven't I? There's no way I have a chance now."

"Did you hear what I said doofus? Evan Hansen tracked you down, got you in the car, and carried you to bed. I think he gives more than a passing shit."

"He carried me?" His face burned.

Zoe sighed and handed him the aspirin. "Look, from the look of it you two made up last night, but I think you should go do it again now that you're sober. And you can't do this okay? If you're having trouble you need to call me not get wasted and ghost on us."

"I know. I'm sorry."

"I trust you. You can't go and betray that trust."

"I'm really sorry Zoe."

He avoided Evan for a few days out of embarrassment. According to Jared, Evan was on bedrest for the rest of the weekend and was only permitted to leave the house for his finals next week. Connor knew he hadn't been wrong. Sleep deprived and sick with anxiety, Evan's words were sharp and hurtful. Connor knew he didn't mean it, but standing in his kitchen, feeling totally at home and finally in control, they hit him like blows. For a moment the voice in his head that never failed to berate him turned into Evan.

When they saw each other again Connor blurted out an awkward apology and thrusted a hot chocolate in his hands. Evan, as per usual, was sweet and accepting and even invited him over.

"How were your finals?" Connor asked hesitantly. Connor's had gone fine for the most part.

"Really well actually," he said sheepishly. "I guess I was worried for nothing like always."

"Don't beat yourself up. Now you know to be more confident in yourself."

Evan nodded. "That's what Jared said."

Connor ducked his head and rubbed at his wrists. "I guess Jared hates me now."

"He'll come around," Evan said firmly. "He worries. That's all. I told him that the fight was my fault anyway."

The trip to Kings Island was one of the last times he felt like a normal kid in a normal family. Shortly after he began seeing himself as the family disappointment.

"It was my fault too. I shouldn't have kicked you out like that."

"It's in the past. Let's stop talking about it."

Connor liked the brisk way he said that, as if reciting from a book of rules he'd recently memorized. The next few weeks were better. School was winding down in preparation for the holiday break and Evan had more time to breathe and waste hours in the coffee shop.

"I'm serious bro, you've got to tell him today," Zoe said, counting the ones in the register. "You know him. He's going to want extra time to pack if he decides to come."

"He might say no," he replied, snapping the rubber band on his wrist. It was a better habit than scratching at his scars. "He could have plans."

Connor had his hair pulled up into a pollyanna. He thought it looked stupid until one day when Evan walked in and complimented him profusely.

"I'll do it today," Connor said.

It was one of those days where Evan came in after his morning class and sat there for hours, working on homework and sipping hot chocolate.  Connor decided to ask him when he brought him a refill.

"Hey Ev," he smiled. "How's it going?"

"Did you know the tallest tree is a redwood called Hyperion? It's 379.7 feet tall!"

"No I didn't," he said. "That's really cool. I brought you another hot chocolate."

"Thanks!"

Stop pining Murphy. Just spit it out.

"I um...you probably have plans but Zoe and I were wondering if you'd like to come home with us for the holidays? You can meet my parents and uh...I mean obviously you don't have to. It would be three days. It's a four hour drive so I understand if you..."

"Yes," Evan cut him off.

"What?" Connor said dumbly.

"My mom has to work over the holiday anyway. If I went home I'd just be alone."

That image made Connor sad for a moment. He'd heard all about the hard working and compassionate Heidi Hansen but the thought of Evan in his house all alone made his heart clench.

"You think they'll l-like me? I'm not great w-with new people."

"They'll love you. How could they not love you? You're only the sweetest person ever."

Evan blushed and when Connor comprehended his words he did too. He snapped the rubber band again. "Okay, I'll text you the details then. Thanks Evan."

You make everything better Evan.

"He's coming," he told Zoe.

"Yes! Is he excited? Did he seem like he was excited? He's so cute when he's excited."

"Shut up Zo."

"So I'm going to bring the sweater and my usual jacket but which pants should I bring?" Connor dug through his drawers nervously and Zoe rolled her eyes. "He knows what you look like doofus. It doesn't matter what you wear."

Connor's phone pinged and he checked the message:

EH: I'll see you soon! Can't wait. :)

He grabbed a bottle of iced coffee. It was his second of the morning.

"Quit drinking those. You're gonna crash when we get there and it'll just be me, Evan, and them."

He was nervous. Going home always made him nervous but this time was different. Going home with Evan meant letting him in to a part of himself he'd tried to bury.

Evan sat shotgun so Zoe could stretch out in the backseat. Connor put on his music: a strange conglomeration of Green Day, Nirvana, and classical piano. The last of which made Evan laugh when it came on.

"It's soothing!" He protested. "It's like your ambient music." When they ran out of his music they put on Zoe's (mostly pop songs with a good amount of classic rock, Spanish guitar music, and sappy love songs that reminded her of Alana.) Evan fell asleep beside him and he chugged another iced coffee before they pulled in the driveway.

He nudged him and Evan's eyelids fluttered adorably. "We're here."

"Is my hair messed up?" He asked. It was, a little, but Connor reached up and smoothed it instead of answering him.

"You look great," he said. "My parents are going to love you. You'll be the son they never had."

"Con..."

"I'm kidding. I'm fine. C'mon Zo we're here."

The house looked the same: yellow paint and wreath on the door. His mom welcomed them at the door.

"Mom this is Evan Hansen. Evan this is our mom."

"It's very nice to meet you Mrs. Murphy," Evan said politely, and Connor was proud of the way he kept his voice even.

"Please, call me Cynthia. It's a pleasure to have you Evan."

They shuffled in past the photos of him and Zoe that hung on the wall. They were mostly before his mental health started getting bad. It was as if life stopped just as he entered middle school. There were buck toothed group shots and dorky school photos nestled in neat frames.

"I hope you like roast chicken Evan," his mom said.

"You're making mashed potatoes right?" Zoe asked.

"Larry they're here!" Mom called.

Larry Murphy wiped his hands on a dish towel.

"Dad this is Evan Hansen," Zoe said. Larry extended his hand and shook Evan's.

"Nice to meet you Evan."

"Nice to m-meet you too sir," Evan said. Connor got the feeling he was better at meeting moms than dads.

"How about you take Evan up to where you'll be sleeping while Zoe sets the table?"

Zoe rolled her eyes. "I just got here and you're already putting me to work."

"Sure," Connor said. "It's right up here," he grabbed Evan's hand instinctively and saw Larry's eyebrows raise.

"My room's over here." He didn't let go as they climbed the stairs and entered Connor's old bedroom. He cringed at the teddy bear still stationed on his bed and My Chemical Romance posters on the wall. "I can sleep on the floor. You take the bed."

"N-no I can't s-sleep in your bed," Evan mumbled.

"I insist Hansen. Now can you braid hair?"

"B-braid?" Evan was pink again.

"Yeah, can you help me out?"

"I'll t-try."

Connor sat on the edge of his old bed and thought about all the times he'd cried in this room. He thought about the blood shed and obscenities screamed and boys daydreamed about in here. Evan's hands shook as he braided. "I like your room."

Connor laughed. "Thanks Hansen."

"Your parents seem nice."

"They're nice enough."

"M-my dad left when I was little. I don't really remember him."

"I'm sorry." He couldn't put together why someone would want to leave Evan.

"It's okay. I'm done." He secured the braid with a hair tie. "You were kind of emo weren't you?"

"Shut up."

They had roast chicken, mashed potatoes, and asparagus for dinner. Mom was planning something even more extravagant for Christmas dinner but the house was already uncomfortably suburban. The Christmas tree was decorated with red and green ornaments. There was a model manger on the mantel and the house was lined with lights.

"What are you studying Evan?"

"Environmental science," he said brightly. Across the table Zoe grinned at Connor.

"The sciences," Larry chimed in. "There's something useful, not like Connor's English degree."

Evan frowned. "I think English is plenty useful."

Cynthia smiled at him. "Of course."

"Oh please, his degree's about as useful as his ridiculous hair."

"Dad," Zoe warned. Connor's jaw was tight. Evan looked over at him with worry and after a moment put his hand on Connor's leg.

They strayed to Zoe for a moment and the conversation was alright. Zoe showed them a video Alana took of the concert. Mom and Dad didn't know Alana was Zoe's girlfriend. She'd made him promise not to tell.

The night started to wind down and Connor felt a vague buzzing in his fingertips.

"Hey Con, did you take your meds?"

"Oh shit, no I forgot." He got up from the table and Larry scoffed.

"Back in my day men solved their own problems. None of this chemical garbage."

Evan visibly tensed. Connor did to want to start a fight. For once he was too tired.

"Larry please," his mom began.

"With all due respect Mr. Murphy, medication is a very useful and in cases like my own a vital part of treatment for mental illness. That's what your son has. Illnesses need medicine," Evan said.

The silence hung. Evan turned white.  

"I like him," Cynthia said. "Evan honey would you like some more chicken? Connor go take your medicine so we can get to dessert."

After dinner Connor stalked to the back porch while Zoe showed Evan the rest of the house. No one was going to bother him so he lit a joint and took a long drag. He hadn't wanted to get high this weekend, not with Evan here, but the pot made the horrendous scene at dinner more bearable.

"Con? You okay?" He turned around to see Evan in the doorway. His brow furrowed. "Are you smoking?"

"Sorry," he said reflexively. "I only brought the one joint I promise."

Evan closed the door and came to stand beside him.

"You wanna try?"

"I'm fine."

"Thanks for what you did back there. I get tired of fighting with him. It feels pointless."

"You're okay right?"

"I'm fine. I just needed something to take the edge off."

"We have very different ways of relieving stress."

"Why, what do you do?" He looked over at him with a lopsided grin.  

"Cry, or garden."

Later that night Connor sat on his bed and thought about, with a squirming feeling, how much he liked Evan Hansen. You have it bad Murphy. You have it so bad. Evan was in the bathroom brushing his teeth and changing into his pajamas. Connor passed the time by painting his nails.

"Are you sure I shouldn't sleep on the floor? I really don't mind." Evan's PJs consisted of a blue and white baseball shirt and the shortest shorts. Connor nearly choked on air. "You okay?"

"I'm fine," he replied. "And I want you to have the bed. I'm just not tired yet. Do you want to talk for a bit? I have a cool nightlight."

Evan nodded eagerly. When Connor still lived in the house of ghosts he went to bed with a blanket of fake stars. They shown above them squeezed into Connor's old twin bed. They spoke in gentle whispers that reminded Connor of sleepovers when he was very young and had friends to invite over.

"Is it usually like that?" Evan asked softly after a minute or two of pointless questions. (Evan's favorite color: blue, book: My Side of the Mountain, food: his mom's tacos, ice cream flavor: peanut butter.)

"Yeah...I mean it used to be a lot worse. I uh, I mean I know he cares. He's just set in his ways you know?"

"I know but it doesn't make it okay." Evan rolled over to face him. His face was so close. If Connor leaned forward an inch he could kiss him. God, how he wanted to kiss him.

Connor had known he was gay since about 5th grade. He got crushes on every boy in his class. He doodled his name attached to whichever boy captured his attention in notebooks. Connor Murphy was a not so secret romantic. He'd dreamed of kissing boys in this room, though it never happened. It wasn't going to happen tonight.

"I know it isn't okay. But that's family right?"

Evan nodded slowly. "I guess." He leaned forward so his head was resting on Connor's chest. Connor felt like he could fall asleep right there. But he didn't.

"I get it I guess. I mean...I can't solve my problems without my medication. I'm not like him. I'm not a real man."

"S-stop it with that t-toxic m-masculinity bullshit," Evan said firmly. It was funny to hear him stumble over a term like toxic masculinity.

"I'm trying," he said weakly. Sometimes it hit him all at once: how hard he'd been trying for so long, all the progress he'd made and yet the approval that constantly eluded him. It made all the work seem more exhausting. "I did a lot of bad shit Evan," he continued, voice cracking. "I wrecked my dad's car. I threatened to kill my sister. I stole shit.  I said terrible things. I...I don't know Evan sometimes the past seems like too much to get over. Sometimes," he whispered, ashamed of the words as soon as they came out. "I think it would've been better if I'd just died when I tried to."

Suddenly Evan's arms were around him. He pressed his head closer to Connor's chest and clung on tightly. "I think you're great Connor Murphy. I think you're great and I'm so lucky to be here with you. I'm so lucky. I never want you to leave Connor, not like that."

He sucked in a breath and was aware of his lungs and ribs and skin over his veins. He breathed in and thought about what it meant to be alive.

"I'm lucky," he replied. "I'm really the lucky one Hansen."

They were silent for a moment, and when Evan detached himself from Connor's chest Connor moved from the bed to the sleeping bag. As much as he wanted to fall asleep curled around Evan he knew it wasn't a good idea.

"Goodnight Hansen."

"Night Connor."

The next morning Connor asked his mother for permission to commandeer the kitchen for breakfast. Evan agreed to help him.

"Mom always wants us to make her fancy coffee now so I thought I'd take her up on it this time," he said. A good night's sleep had done him some good. He felt less like his brain was oozing out of his scalp.

"That's awfully nice of you," Evan said, looking bewildered at the sugar water Connor had put on the burner. "Can I help with anything?"

"You can grab me some ice," he replied, stirring the simple syrup and preparing another saucepan to steam some milk.

"What are you making?"

"I was thinking some lattes and iced mochas provided we have chocolate syrup. I'm also going to make eggs and toast so we're not all bouncing off the walls with caffeine overload."

"So you make breakfast a lot?"

"Zo and I switch off on the weekends. I like cooking."

Evan brought him the ice cube tray and he plugged in the blender. The caramel was done and he located the chocolate syrup in the cabinet. He turned off the coffee pot and poured a portion of the coffee into the blender with the ice. To this he added some cream, simple syrup, chocolate syrup, and vanilla extract. Evan watched him with interest.

"Can you crack some eggs in a bowl and see if we have any shredded cheese in the fridge please?"

Evan nodded vehemently and turned back to the fridge.

"Shit, sorry Evan I forgot my meds and I should probably take them before my dad gets up. Do you think you can grab the pill bottle from my bag upstairs?"

"Sure," Evan abandoned the eggs and darted down the hallway.

The house was quiet in the morning. Connor eyed the photos and magnets on the fridge. He remembered why it was so easy to get lonely here. In high school it had felt like no one really knew him, like if he died anyone could make up anything about the person he was and no one would question it. He imagined people would pick and choose the parts of Connor Murphy they wanted to remember. They'd piece together a puzzle with missing pieces: his mental illness, greasy hair, nasty attitude, sexuality. It wasn't until college that he felt truly known. God, how it helped to be known.

Evan came back and he thanked him as he swallowed his pills dry.

"Do you want me to show you how to do the cute latte designs?"

"Absolutely!" Connor had never seen someone who by all accounts didn't drink coffee get so excited about it.

"Alright." He poured the remaining hot coffee into his mom's nice round coffee cups and handed Evan a cup of steamed milk. "It's kind of tricky so don't be upset if it doesn't work out okay? Now you've gotta pour from one side to the other and shake the cup of milk as you go to get the pattern. Go slowly okay?"

"Okay," Evan said, face scrunched up in concentration. He followed his instructions to make a shaky flower.

"Great job Evan. You're a natural."

"Now you do one."

Connor took his own milk and carefully crafted a foam heart over the top of the coffee. He glanced over at Evan, who was a lovely shade of rose. "I'd say one was for you but you don't drink coffee." Smooth Murphy.

"Th-thanks anyway."

"No problem. You wanna put whipped cream on the mochas while I do the eggs?"

"S-sure."

Breakfast went swimmingly. Mom loved the lattes and Dad was a sucker for unnecessarily sweet caffeinated beverages.

Mom had planned a baked ham, roasted squash and zucchini, fresh baked bread, and a pumpkin pie for Christmas dinner. She was busy in the kitchen all day while Larry was in emergency conference calls for work.  Zoe had plans to visit some of her high school friends, and because Connor didn't have any of those, it was just him and Evan.

"It's funny, they say the holidays is for spending time with your family and all that and yet it's just us."

Evan laughed. He'd convinced him to drink half of a mocha and Evan was running on a caffeine high. Connor thought about what would've happened if he'd tried the weed and grinned.

"We could watch some movies? I bet all the dumb Christmas ones are on TV."

"Don't lie. You know you love all the sappy Christmas crap," Evan giggled. He actually giggled like a dork.

"Fine, fine okay let's watch Love Actually."

Evan was sitting close, socked feet tucked beside him. Partway through the movie he leaned his head on Connor's shoulder. By the end of the movie Evan was asleep and leaning heavily on him. Connor was trying very hard to maintain his chill.

"Connor honey do you know what time your sister is...oh," his mom came into the living room and smiled softly. "He's a very sweet boy," she whispered.

"Yeah mom."

"Are you two...?"

"We're friends mom, just friends," he said, face heating up. His mom knew he was gay. His dad didn't.

"But do you...?"

"Yeah," he interrupted. "I...yeah."

She smiled again. "He's really very sweet."

Evan complimented his mom's dinner and Zoe told stories about high school that didn't make him look like such a loser. Larry was bearable and Connor felt more at home than he'd ever felt.

After dinner he snuck out back, pulling Evan along with him. It was snowing and he felt the cold in his fingertips. The cold burned his lungs. "My mom loves you you know?" He said breathlessly. "She thinks you're great."

"I am great," Evan said uncharacteristically. Connor cackled.  

"Yeah, yeah you are. Hey can I ask you a question?"

"Sure."

"Do you have a crush on my sister?" He asked.

Evan looked down. Suddenly Connor felt so hot he didn't mind the snow.

"I used to," he muttered. "Um...now I don't. Now she's just a good friend."

"You don't have to lie to make me feel better. It's okay."

At least he knew. It was better to know.

It was New Year's Eve. It was New Year's Eve and Evan's roommate was throwing a party. Zoe was invited and Evan had talked Jared into inviting him too.

He let Zoe pick out his clothes and do his hair. She even gave him a little eyeliner because it looked badass (her words not his.) They brought a bottle of champagne and Jared warmed up to him quickly.

"Hey Ev." Connor found him quickly. He was standing in a corner by himself holding a drink. He looked nervous. Connor wanted to kiss him.

"You made it!" He sounded too loud in the crowded room. He swayed on his feet.

"Yeah I did. Are you drunk?"

"A little! Jared said I should relax more."

"Good," he said. "Good, he's right."

"Do you wanna drink?!"

"I'm not drinking tonight, but I'll take a soda if you have one."

"Yeah!" He grabbed his hand and  pulled him into the kitchen. His hand was kind of sweaty but Connor didn't mind.

"Do you know anyone else here?"

"They're mostly Jared's D&D and trivia friends," he said in a loud stage whisper.

"Ah, so it's a nerd party?"

"Shut up!" He hit him on the chest playfully. Connor reached for his arm to steady him.

"You're such a dork I bet you only had one drink."

"Shut up," he repeated, slinging his arms around Connor's neck and pulling him down for an awkward hug that brought their faces too close together.

"You're doing a good job at relaxing huh Ev?"

"What time is it?"

"11:45."

"Let's go outside!"

"It's freezing dork."

"C'mon!" Evan's eyes were shiny and his lips were very red.

"Sure, okay."

"It's been such a great year hasn't it? I met you this year Con. How great is that?"

"It's pretty great."

Evan's smile was wide and his nose was running from the cold.

"I think you're my favorite person," Evan said. "Well probably my mom too but you're definitely up there."

"What about this new crush of yours?" He said bitterly. He felt dumb. The first crush he'd had in years and he liked someone else. He was cute and drunk and liked someone else.

Evan giggled again. "Jared says I have a Murphy kink."

"I thought you didn't like Zoe anymore?" He folded his arms over his chest protectively.

"I don't."

"I don't get you. And anyway it's 11:56 we should go back."

"Con it's you."

"It's me what?"

"What time is it?"

"11:57."

Evan took a step closer. "I think you're great."

"You said that already."

"Shut up Murphy."

"Okay."

"You deserve so much."

"I don't know about that."

"You do."

"Evan," his voice cracked despite himself.

"What time is it?"

"11:59." Inside he could hear the party goers counting down.

"Connor I like you," he said.

Connor could feel his heart pounding.  "Like as a friend?"

"No, like in the gay way. Or more like the bi way cause I'm bi. What time is it?"

"It's midnight Hansen."

Evan Hansen kissed him. He tasted like beer and bubble gum. He kissed him for a long time and Connor kissed him back. He curled his arm around Evan's waist. It was midnight on New Year's Eve and he was kissing Evan Hansen. They drew back at the same time.

"I like you too," he said.

"Oh thank god," Evan replied. "Cause that would've been really bad."

"You look really cute."

"No you do."

"We should go inside. It's freezing."

"Okay, hey Con do you wanna go out sometime?"

"Yeah doofus we can do that. Let's go back inside before you freeze to death okay?"

"Okay."

Why do I get the feeling the girls will lose the camera soon?

I noticed the names on the drawers before the girls did. I just never mentioned it.

That snow transition to Chi was…weird…

I think at least a small part of the problem with this show is that it’s drab. Another part is that your appreciation of the show depends on how you view it as relaxing or mind-numbing when you watch it week-to-week. Yet another aspect is that it rides upon, also, your appreciation of the philosophical content that you’re allowed to wade in as part of the show.

“Pumped up” doesn’t seem to be the right word, subbers. I don’t know why (maybe context?), but I don’t feel pumped up when I see the moon. The moon, to me, would be motivating if I were in their situation, but it sure wouldn’t pump me up…

“Magic power”? Judging from the mouthflaps, the word was mahou which just translates to “magic”, and would’ve done decently here too.

Please don’t ship the lolis…

Please don’t make the lolis drunk, either…

I did not come here to watch robots explode. But these robots exploding…cool! Like an action movie!

What was that last part with the robot communication circles and patterns for? I guess it made more sense with the volume on, huh…

Why do I get the ominous feeling the biting “ice floe” was Aculeatus or someone like that (and not Ventricosus, the king)?

I love how grumpy Antarc is when they’re like, “Tha failure is all mine” and they’re just holding their hand like it’s no problem. The hand really is no problem, especially in contrast to Phos, come to think of it.

It’s hard to convince someone when you literally have no hands to do it with…

“I raise my hands in defeat.” – Phos in on my level of puns. I was going to make a hand pun and then they come up with this, which is much better than what I could think up on the fly.

Notice Phos is the only colour in this winter world…

I knew gold was soft and platinum too, but…what does that have to do with-oh wait. Never mind.

It’s like something out of a horror film…it’s sheer genius.

Phos’s eyes look like Antarc’s used to…plus they’ve gained a personality like theirs too.

I’m really unsatisfied with the fact I’ll have to say goodbye to this show in 2 episodes…It’s been my favourite for this entire season, and when the competition is strong, that means this show – with all its fluff and misunderstandings – has done itself more than enough to deserve a spot on my favourites list.

This is Netjuu no Matome (Summary of an MMO Junkie). Honestly, my translation works a lot better than CR’s this time don’tcha think?

As soon as Sakurai’s battery died, I swear I just heard The Entertainer in my head. As if it’s all some big dream I’m bearing witness to. But of course, it’s fiction. It’s basically a shared dream for the lot of us who know about it. A sweet shared dream we can access anytime.

Every time I look at that credit list and see Maeno as Harumi…yeah…not gonna think about it. But it seems double-Sakurai even got Harth as a role. Wowee, Sakurai!

“I Call That Feeling Marble” – Why “marble”?

Sono Kimochi Ma-buru…so they weren’t quite lying when they said “marble”, eh? Sono Kimochi would translate to “that feeling”. However, ma-buru could be “marvel”, so it could be “I Call That Feeling [a] Marvel” (which makes a lot more sense).

I swore Morimori-chan would’ve asked to be partners! The fact that she didn’t was so disappointing…

There were some ducks drifting along in the foreground of one shot.

What happened to Harumi, come to think about it?

The show shows its Comico roots – that park background looks like it came out of a visual novel, which is a sort of trademark of Comico series like ReLIFE and it. Nanbaka, on the other hand…if you’ve seen it before, you’ll be aware of what that show’s visual quirk is.

So the woman’s name isn’t Sendai, but Yashiro? Okay then.

I feel like Sakurai and Tenya Iida would be good brothers in an AU. They act in similar ways to each other.

The humour in this show is somewhat unwarranted. It doesn’t always work, either. (I like a majorly consistent show best. Incongruous mood whiplashes don’t always work, after all.)

I think I’ve seen some spoilers saying Rabbit dies. I already knew everyone bar one *eyes Rat* will die anyway, but the game is in seeing how they die.

Were CGI models the best for this moment? Probably not, but there was some good movement from Usagi there.

Did you notice the shining light when Ox repositioned his sword (after he jumped)?

100-person…that reminds me of the SekaTsuyo “Hundred Throws” thing, but please don’t talk to me about SekaTsuyo…

Of course Kanae’s backstory has drinking in it. Her tagline has to do with “drunken rage”…(half-sarcastic)

Hey, this episode is titled after Rabbit. Isin’s genre-breaking strikes again. Also the scribbles on the faces is a nice touch, but not as good as the marionettes from Rampo Kitan.

I swear they’re relying on CGI models for the Ox and Tiger in this episode...

I’d like to headcanon Eiji is good at soccer. Not as the Ox, but just as himself.

Well, “CGI models” was definitely true right there when the Tatsumi bros attacked.

Those ice effects got put to good use, at least.

If you sit a bit of a distance from the screen, you can see they really are CGI models, the Ox and the Tiger. Graphinica’s really pulling out the stops – after all, didn’t they just say “don’t do what you’re unused to doing”?

Who knew a stab to the heart could be more touching than any other death in this show? Maybe it’s a stab…to my feels. (You’re all groaning now, aren’t you?)

I think two of the kanji from “To Treat A Man Beef From His Own Cow” (the title, not the episode) are from Gobouken (the name of Ushii’s sword, and the name also means “bayonet”), which is interesting.

Feeling Trapped in a Relationship: Should You Stay or Break Free?

When you’re feeling trapped in a relationship, it can be a catch-22 – you feel like you have an obligation to stay, but it’s just hard to breathe.

Whenever I’ve felt trapped in a relationship, I think it was because I felt there was some restriction to my self-expression or freedom due to the expectations of that relationship.

I think there should be some restrictions on what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior within any relationship. For example, not showing up for an agreed meeting with a friend because you can’t be bothered is a form of self-expression, but not one that usually leads to a lasting friendship.

However, when you’re feeling trapped and you can no longer see any real benefit in continuing to meet the expectations of that relationship, then resentment and frustration can start to creep in.

Speaking your mind when you’re feeling trapped

I’ve had friendships and family and work relationships where I felt I had to be perfect – to not disagree or say something that might be offensive. Not a great tactic for creating a healthy relationship.

What I’ve found is that always needing to be agreeable is a good way – no, a Fantastic way *note the capitalization of the F* – to create the experience of feeling trapped with someone who could otherwise be a great partner, be that a friend, family member, colleague, or lover.

So I’ve learned to speak my mind, which has created a sense of inner freedom in me at all times. It’s also been a great way of screening out people who aren’t compatible with my true personality – they’ll either love me or hate me, but at least they’ll see who I actually am as opposed to a false representation. What to do if you’re feeling trapped

Now that we’ve got that basic principle out of the way, here are some questions and ideas to consider if you’re feeling trapped in a relationship.

#1 Knowing the power rule. Here’s a perhaps uncomfortable but very real truth about power dynamics within relationships:

The person who is more willing to leave always has the most power.

Simply knowing that this rule of power exists allows me to assess whether power is unevenly balanced to too great of an extent in any relationship.

For example, if my partner constantly threatens to leave if I don’t do what they say. An even more subtle power-play that I’ve received is when someone has a habit of walking out of a room during conversations at the very moment when I’m trying to communicate an important point. #2 Asking: why do I value the person? Most people don’t want to be the plan B – so if you’re keeping someone dangling on the hook of expectation but meanwhile have bigger and better plans, this may slowly eat away at your own sense of freedom. It’s called cognitive dissonance, and even the most seasoned player can get it.

The more I can line up everything in my life so that it’s the Empire State Building and not the leaning Tower of Pisa, the better things seem to go and the more pumped I feel about life.

If I’m feeling suddenly trapped, I try to consider: my values, my partner’s values, my life vision *and how they match it*, and whether I’m being honest about it. [Read: 18 emotions you shouldn’t feel in a healthy relationship]

#3 Keeping your eye out for the Drama Triangle. An infant needs to be looked after. This is the same for somebody who is severely mentally disabled. However, I wouldn’t agree that a partner who cannot get their own life in order is your responsibility.

Sometimes, people will use emotional manipulation consciously or subconsciously to keep you in a relationship with them.

I keep my eye on this by reminding myself of the Drama Triangle. I think of the Drama Triangle as a triangle where at each of the triangle’s 3 points is a different word: victim, rescuer and persecutor.

It’s of my philosophy that the moment you adopt one of these roles, you take away your self-empowerment and make others responsible for what you do or do not do.

For example, if someone is playing the victim, then they’ll make you their rescuer or persecutor. However, I think a healthy relationship is about handling your own shit and inviting others into your life.

If somebody is there to rescue you or be saved to by you, then you become responsible for them and are probably more likely to create the experience of feeling trapped at some point.

You also know they’re more likely to blame you for not saving them or allowing yourself to be rescued. You could also be persecuted when things turn sour.

I’ve even been in a relationship where I was the victim being persecuted, and I almost lived for the chance of being able to prove that I was in the right and she was in the wrong. F-ed up, innit? The Drama Triangle creates many tangled vines.

#4 Asking yourself: am I scared of physical or vindictive consequences? I’ve seen when someone both loves and fears a partner. This can lead them to overlook obvious signs of manipulation and/or abuse.

Perhaps their partner has a bad temper, is physically bullish, or has emotional or financial leverage. Finding others who have been through the same situation – even if it’s online or by reading articles or YouTube videos – can probably help to put this type of situation into context and help with coming to a decision. #5 Asking yourself: am I scared of what third parties will say or do? Sometimes your social circle, religion, or culture can cause you to feel as if you don’t have a choice or that you have limited options.

For example, I’ve coached a client who was bound by familial agreements to follow through with an arranged marriage. He looked for people who were dealing with similar situations and found very useful information that helped him to work out the worst-case scenario and balance it against his goals in life.

#6 Asking: am I living at my edge? I first heard of the phrase ‘the edge’ in a book called The Way of The Superior Man by David Deida. I later even wrote a book about it too. I find myself using it in a broad range of contexts because of how important it is, however, I think few people really internalize the edge as a life philosophy.

Think of the edge as a literal edge beyond which is a steep fall to where your fears lie. I think the challenge for us as parents, friends, workers, and artists is to confront this edge in order to keep growing as a person. For example, when I wasn’t pursuing challenging and exciting goals, I wasn’t really living.

Even when I had a secure long-term relationship with a beautiful girl, it fell apart for me, and became a psychological prison, because I’d stopped trying to challenge myself as honestly as I could. When I feel like a prisoner to a relationship that doesn’t serve me, I always ask myself first whether I’m not just a prisoner to my own fears. #7 Talking to a close friend or family member. I had this habit where I would walk for an hour – and sometimes hours – with a close friend of mine.

It amazed me how after our conversations I would have more context on a nauseatingly claustrophobic home situation. What I saw as idiosyncratic to me would often leave him nodding in fervent agreement: ‘yeah, bro I get the EXACT same thing at home too!’

#8 Looking at your social life. Again, I love the principle of ‘start with yourself.’ It’s my belief that it’s unhealthy to not have a wider network of contacts. I think nature has designed us to seek diversity, and this variation helps us to align and realign our beliefs and patterns of behaviors so that we don’t fall into neurotic habits.

When I had no friends, it was hard for me to appreciate my parents or my sister. And when my social life was bubbling, they all felt more approachable and vibrant. Whenever I have the feeling trapped emotion, only to realize I’d not been out with a friend for too long.

It’s hard to not feel depressed or trapped when you don’t have friends. The world seems more scary and judgmental and you can take out this fear on those closest to you. Psychologists will tell you that having a good social life, two or more close friends, and also family is a key part of emotional health for most people. #9 Ask yourself: would I actually miss the person? If the answer’s a hard no, then you have some telling data. I have pretty good emotional control, but I still find myself wanting to cut people off for some silly slight that I think they made towards me: some comment, expression, or reaction. Sometimes I’m over-reacting and take time to calm myself, but other times there is a pattern.

Just asking myself honestly whether I like spending time around someone lets me know whether I would benefit or not from leaving. I’ll ask myself if I’m always left with more energy after interacting with a particular person or less. [Read: 13 creepy signs your friend is secretly an energy vampire]

#10 Ask yourself: what are my responsibilities? I’m not a father, but I’ve seen that even a mother can start to feel trapped by her infant if she has no life for herself.

However, she can’t exactly pack up and dust her hands of him on a moment’s notice. Likewise, for any person who is vulnerable, it may be your responsibility to make sure they are looked after in some way.

#11 Ask yourself: am I scared of commitment/responsibilities? I believe we live in a time when the easier route and meteoric rises are worshiped in media and as part of social norms than is the path of diligent practice and slow growth.

I like to remind myself that with more responsibilities comes richer meaning and fulfillment in life. The opposite path is one where I take no responsibility and always chase the new thing – trying in vain to ignore the emptiness as it widens inside.

When you’re feeling trapped in a relationship, it can be confusing. However, I think it’s a feeling that beckons deep and committed introspection and honest assessment in order to grow through it.
