Bruno's kiddos would be the ones to enjoy buñuelos a lil too much.. Too much enthusiasm, with reckless abandonment and competitively, in the sweetest way possible.
The way @daliceus makes my heart go boom boom with her art is otherworldly mkay
Tumblr media
Lily Lore Facts:
🌟 Lily's birthday is Sep 19th 1956 / Virgo
🌟 Lily's full name is Lily Estrella Madrigal. Estrella meaning 'star' and is her mother's maiden name.
🌟 Nicknames: Lil, mi estrella, moonbeam & stardust
🌟 The name Lily is a tie back to one of Pedro’s poems (Lily Of The Valley) and artwork he left behind in a journal that Bruno found as a child.
🌟 Lily's gift, like both of Bruno’s biological children, is connected to time. Hers being the ability to manipulate time, stopping, reversing and altering the flow.
🌟 Her door is the only one in Casita to not show her image/portrait on it. Instead a glowing half moon is shown and when being used the magic of the door is active and it ticks through the lunar phases. Another tie to her gift.
🌟 A special moment that Diego and Lily gave Abuela was when they brought her back to meet Pedro in the past. Lily’s gift age reversing her back for that meeting.
🌟 Mirabel made Lily a Benji puma plushie of her oldest brother after he moved out and into his own home on their street, for when she misses him terribly and stop her trying to sneak over. Both Diego and Lily adore cuddles with Benji in puma form.
🌟 Pepa was highly disappointed when she wasn't Diego's favorite family member as a baby which she got redemption for when Lily came along and loved the sound of falling rain. Pepa would be the only one able to get her back to sleep when fussy cause of this.
🌟 The white streak in Lily's hair was an effect after receiving her gift on the night of the lunar eclipse and Bruno affectionately calls it "kissed by starlight".
🌟 Lily's full gift explained: time manipulation
Ability to affect the flow of time (by slowing, accelerating, reversing, or stopping it), astral projection on a full moon she can visit the dreams of loved ones (rare ability and only shown/used once for Luna), dream-weaver (can help ease and settle subconscious thoughts in order to allow easier sleep, the family always thought she was given this extra ability to help Bruno but ends up using it on Benji's brother the most.)
🌟 Her gift is strengthened by moonlight, on a full moon (lilies grew everywhere the moonlight touched on the night of the eclipse, a result of Lily receiving her gift)
🌟 Growing up with older brothers Lily can hold her own and doesn’t shy away from a challenge, although the boys spoil her rotten, allowing her to get away with anything when Luna and Bruno aren’t home (they scream sing her song ‘Queen by Hidden Citizens’ to her and let her dance on the table when they’re alone),
🌟 Lily is the biggest snuggler in the family and hates sleeping alone, especially on nights when the moonlight is hidden behind clouds. Bruno takes his old ‘bad’ prophecy tablets and smashes them up, crushing them into tiny speckles and mixes it into paint, giving her room its own glowing starry sky for her. Lily loves it so much they later fill jars with the crushed glowing glass as an extra form of nightlight she can use when walking in the dark.
🌟 Lily loves sneaking into Diego’s room at night to cuddle, much to his regret (although he's never kicked her out or brought her back to her room so more than likely enjoys her company too).
🌟 Since Bruno is the breakfast maker of the family, Lily and Mateo love joining him in the kitchen, mostly to eat anything before he has a chance to plate it. They are always covered in a mess of crumbs. Lily loves buñuelos, same as Luna.
🌟 Her style is described as creative, artsy, colorful, somewhat eccentric as she pairs odd bits of fabric and likes to wear sombrero’s (possibly to fit in with her hermano’s which she looks up to), sometimes a bit of a tomboy even in a dress or skirt.
🌟 Bruno had to learn to braid her hair cause she enjoys how he grumbles, mumbles and talks to himself while doing it. When Bruno isn't able to braid her hair she ropes Diego into it instead, which he's surprisingly good at.
🌟 Her artsy side comes out whenever Bruno naps and she has a chance to draw on his arm, loving to add her special flair to where his tattoo sits. Diego has learned to hide her pens whenever he naps to avoid her making him "pretty" (sometimes he misses her hijinks and purposely "forgets" to put away her drawing materials).
🌟 Lily is learning to play the violin from Agustín cause she loves watching Bruno teach Diego guitar and is hoping to surprise them with her own version of "fancy guitar".
🌟 Bruno's children are the Keepers of Time whereas Luna and Bruno are the Seers
🌟 Abuela's tokens from her chatelaine were passed down.
The key to Casita for Mirabel, next matriarch
The locket with Pedro for Diego, link to the past keeping family alive in spirit
The pocket watch for Lily, keeper of the flow of time

locked out of heaven
song inspo. locked out of heaven by bruno mars
a/n. i’m still giggling at the fact that bruno mars collected all the idols like a damn pokémon trainer. also i wrote it in 7 minutes while waiting at the bus stop bye
summary. your boyfriend comes home after the bruno mars concert, tired and drunk… and so so in love
warnings. might be a lil suggestive? depends how you look at it. a bit of skinship ^_^ + brief alcohol mention
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the door opened so quietly, causing you to wonder if it’s your imagination or not. soft thuds of foot steps and the sound of your boyfriend’s humming made you rub your eyes, slumber slowly washing off you. peeking at the clock you smiled softly: 3:29am.
the slight light peeking through the door, coming from the bathroom accompanying by the rustle of water running caused you to shift a bit, to make place for yeonjun in your bed.
in no time the light turned off and yeonjun walked lazily into the room, sighing.
“hi baby” you murmured, voice a bit raspy.
“oh, did i wake you up? i’m sorry” if you thought your voice was raspy then after hearing him, you realised it’s nothing compared to his. you giggled, shaking your head.
“nope, i was waiting for you” you hummed, patting the place next to you.
but yeonjun plopped down on you, placing his head on your tummy with a dramatic sigh of relief.
“that’s good. after the concert we went to have some drinks with the guys, there were so many friends of mine. they insisted i stayed but i said i have to go back home to my girl” yeonjun hummed lazily, words barely audible due to the volume of it and the fact he was muffled by your pyjama t-shirt. when he talked you felt vibrations spreading through your body, stomach filling with butterflies… maybe also because of the nickname he used.
“you’re so sweet. how was the concert though?” you asked, accepting the fact he won’t move anytime soon. yeonjun normally is clingy, but after having alcohol in his system he’s the definition of clingy. one of his hands grabbed yours and placed it on his head, signalling you to play with his hair. the other pulled your shirt a bit and he started drawing small doodles on the skin of your stomach.
“it was… so… amazing. is it what moas feel like? i thought i was dreaming. bruno was amazing… the way he sung… he was so charismatic! he even said he missed us… in korean. aish… i’ll never hear his songs the same way again. the live version was just… woah” he sighed dreamily, the post-concert blues settling in.
you played with his hair, smiling fondly. gradually he started dozing off, breath turning more stable and soft.
you felt yourself getting drowsy again too when yeonjun suddenly started humming a song. at first you couldn’t hear which one but then you realised it.
“cause you make me feel like i've been locked out of heaven~” he sung quietly against your stomach “for too loooong~”
you scoffed, the action making him move a bit. you could feel the way he smiled against your skin, hands wrapping around you a bit tighter.
“can i just stay here…?” he hummed.
“spend the rest of your days here?” you asked amused, causing him to grin.
“mhm” a quiet murmur leaving his lips.
“mkay, you can… but if i wake up sore in the morning, you’re giving me a massage” you joked and continued to play with his hair.
with a pleasant warmth spreading in your heart you fell asleep, joining yeonjun in his peaceful slumber.

Hi babe! Idk if you’re doing requests at all. And if you aren’t 100% no pressure at all! Buttt I was wondering if there was a chance you could do some headcanons for Bruce proposing to his partner? Thank you so much, hope you’re well! 💕💕
HIIIIIII and ouuuu this sounds interesting👀 LETS GOOOO!!!
Proposal Headcannon||Bruce x Reader
——————————
🙇‍♀️If Bruce wants to marry you, ohhhh boy you’re in for a wild ride of emotions. Cause whenever he sees you he’ll get nervous and just out of it, but luckily you don’t pay it no mind.
🙇‍♀️Once he finally decides to take the next step to propose he would 100% come to his brothers for advice and reassurance.
🙇‍♀️While the bros are hyping him up and throwing out ideas JD is trying to take over and give him shitty advice.
🙇‍♀️After all of the bickering and arguing JD caused, he finally decided to take you out to a nice reserved spot on Vacay Island.
🙇‍♀️He makes sure to sneak glances at your ring finger to guess or make sure he at least knows your ring size.
🙇‍♀️When he tells you y’all are going on a date, he is so nervous and is sometimes stammering over his words. “H-Hey y/n! I have a surprise for us at 7:00, s-so umm get ready babe.” He said immediately running away. “Ok?” You said watching his fleeing figure slowly disappear.
🙇‍♀️He makes sure everything is perfect so he arrives at the spot early to get everything ready. (His brothers definitely helped him decorate and get everything ready for you)
🙇‍♀️Once y’all arrive at the spot it’s so romantic and it’s making you feel very special and loved.
🙇‍♀️(The spot is a nice cliff in front of the sunset with roses on the ground leading to a table for two with food)
🙇‍♀️Once y’all finish with the romantic dinner he offers you a dance and the song is Marry You by Bruno Mars
🙇‍♀️Towards the end of the song he turns you around to face the sunset, then while you’re distracted he gets on his knee and sings the last chorus out loud. “Who cares, baby, I think I wanna marry you.” He says with tears in his eyes. You then turn around as tears threatened to spill out of your eyes. “Bruce are you for real?!” “Yes, my love, I am.”he says with nothing but love. “YESSSSS I would love to marry you!” You said finally cracking.
🙇‍♀️He is over joyed to finally be engaged to the most beautiful/handsome/amazing s/o ever.
🙇‍♀️His brothers are definitely calling you sister-in-law and are definitely teasing you and him about nieces and nephews and future kids. So prepare cause you’re family now.
🤍🤎✨👀 Did y’all enjoy it???
OKKK THE END MY BBYS🫶🏾🌚

I know where I belong. Part 4
----------------------------------------------------- Warnings- Fluff time with Bucky ----------------------------------------------------- Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 -----------------------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Ever since the panic attack, Bucky has not left you alone for a minute, he refused to let you sleep alone. So most nights would be spend in his room, when certain someone was being loud and vocal. Some nights were spent in your room watching anything random. You even got Bucky to like Bruno Mars. Now he just can't stop singing his songs.
"Oh, her eyes, her eyes Make the stars look like they're not shinin' Her hair, her hair Falls perfectly without her tryin' She's so beautiful And I tell her every day" Bucky was busy singing, shaking his ass making breakfast for you, hardly noticing Tony and Sam behind him. "What's up with him?" Tony whisper asks, "Y/n introduced him to Bruno Mars" Sam smirks. While Bucky smiled to himself.
"He has been spending a lot of time with her" Steve mutters from behind them, Tony looks surprised at him. "And your problem is?" Tony asks in calm voice. "Nothing Tony! They spent a lot of time together" Steve scoffed. Bucky's ears perked up "Y/N is single and she is my friend, I can spend time with her anytime, any place, as much as I want. No one can tell me or her what to do, Steve!" Bucky mutters, storming out of the kitchen. "Phew he is pissed" Sam whistles.
Even when training Bucky would sing. "Beautiful girls, all over the, world. I could be chasing but my time would be wasted. They got nothing on you, baby. Nothing on you, Y/n" "Y/n?" Sam asked and Bucky fell from the treadmill. "What?" Bucky asked acting annoyed even though he was red. "You just sang about her!" "No!" Bucky hissed and stormed out but not before Sam managed to yell "You like her!"
Later that night you were sleeping in your room, waiting for Bucky to barge in, meanwhile Bucky was pacing back and forth in his room, muttering about what Sam said. "Stupid Sam what does he know about Bruno Mars, lyrics are tough to remember. Steve is an idiot I like spending time with Y/n, she is sweet, nice, cares for me, respects everyone, she is so beautiful yeah I like her, like a friend. Yeah that's it, just a friend, my beautiful friend, gorgeous friend just the way she... in the middle of his inner rambling he sings again 'When I see your face There's not a thing that I would change 'Cause you're amazing Just the way you are And when you smile The whole world stops and stares for a while 'Cause girl, you're amazing Just the way you are' HOLY SHIT I LOVE HER!" He realized. Bucky froze, little by little he started to understand what he is been feeling lately. In the process of looking after you, and spending so much time, he started to like you more eventually making him fall in love with you. He stops what he is doing and stares at himself looking into the mirror with a mixture of surprise and happiness.
Now he found a new purpose. Confess his feelings. Yes he can do that pfftt so easy. He just needs to go back to Wakanda and make Winter Solider alive, so he can confess on behalf of him and whatever your answer will be Winter Solider could take it. Then he'll spend time in the hut again, looking after goats till Winter Solider is dead again. Yup he can do this. He will even take you along, yeah you love Wakanda, you both can live happily there. Yup he is going call Shuri. He literally dialed her number when he realize what he was about to do he immediately cut the call and texted her sorry. Then he decided he will do nothing. Yup that's a better plan.
So here he was inside your room acting like Winter Solider, why? cause that's the plan behave like a normal friend. "Bucky?" "Who is Bucky?" Bucky raises his brow widening his eyes, silently telling you to go along the act. "You are Bucky" "No! You are my mission!" He fake punches you and you act like you got knocked out. Bucky tried to stifle his laugh seemingly forgotten about his self declaration. He carries you bridal style in his room. He playfully throws you on his bed and you fake an "Ow". He jumps next to you and you both laugh. "So Winter Soldier's mission was to kidnap me from my room and bring me here?" "Yes!" he was going to sing again, but quickly bit his tongue not wanting to embarrass himself, he awkwardly laughed. "Are you okay?" "Me? Yeah, why? "Yes you, you seem to be awkward, you were late and we were suppose to sleep in my room, not that I mind here, and it looks like you are hiding something?" You tell him in one quick breath. He laughs and laughs hoping you'll let go, he looks everywhere except at you. "You are cute" you kissed his cheek. It was normal for you to kiss his cheek, but for the new lover boy, it was new, he literally grew heart eyes, and was ready to do anything for you. He even decided the names of his future kids with you.
Unbeknownst to Bucky, everyone except for you had a suspicion that it was only a matter of time for him to fall for you.
After few minutes Bucky whispers "hey wanna roam outside", you turn your head to face him "let's go" you smiled.
But little did Bucky know that you were in dilemma of your own. Ever since Nat and Wanda told you that the new trainees are drooling over Bucky, you are planning to murder them! When they first told you, you brushed it off. But when you saw it with your own eyes and heard the things they were whispering about him you were burning! How dare they? what do they know about your Bucky. He won't fall for them. Right? So you made them train extra hard. You successfully made them to be scared of you. You made sure to roam around holding Bucky's hand, after all you are protecting him from them. Yup nothing to do with being jealous. "Oh Bucky, sweet Bucky, my Bucky" you choked on air at your own thoughts.
So were Bucky realized his feelings for you, it was only a matter of time for you to accept yours.
----------------------------------------------------- Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 ----------------------------------------------------- (I hope you guys love the fluff, I will be writing more fluffy Bucky in the next part and don't worry guys Steve and Sharon will pay. As always feedback is appreciated, lots of love to you all and enjoy 😊❤️) -----------------------------------------------------

The second wip of the Reincarnation AU series; Isabela’s death.
Featuring another sketch at the end.
Time skip of fourteen years. What happened between Mirabel and Isabela’s deaths? You’ll never know.
Comments are always appreciated.
Warning, sensitive topics below: murder and character death.
~~~~~~
So Much Hides Behind My Smile
“Knock, knock? Mi flor? Are you in there?” Someone asks, opening the door.
Isabela is sat at her vanity, carefully taking out the flowers she’d woven into her hair that morning. From the mirror’s reflection, she can see Milagro stood in the doorway, her family going about minding their own business just behind.
It had been a busy day, of course. Her perfect, albeit long awaited, wedding.
“Of course, mi vida. Did you need something?”
“I just came to see you,” he answered, shutting the door behind him. He laughed, walking over to her, just about to set a hand on her shoulder. “Well, it’s been a long day but we’ve finally made it to the wedding night—”
“Get the fuck out of my room.” Isabela snarls.
Milagro blanks for a minute. “Um… where else am I meant to sleep?”
“I don’t care. It’s not my problem.” She seethes, turning back to the mirror.
“In case the rest of the day didn’t clue you in, mi flor, we are unfortunately husband and wife now. It very much is your problem. And from what I understand, the sooner you have a baby, the happier your Abuela will be. Which you’ll have a hard time achieving if you don’t want me here.”
“If you so much as touch my shoulder, I will rip your penis off and feed it to my carnivorous plants.”
Neither says anything more.
But it takes exactly two seconds for them to act.
Milagro goes to charge his entire body into hers but is yanked onto the floor by throned vines, as Isabela throws herself straight onto him.
“How dare you treat me like this!?”
“How dare you!? This is my room and don’t you forget it!”
“Just because you’re a Madrigal doesn’t mean you can get away with everything, princesa!”
They scratch and hiss and hit like wild jaguars, fighting over the last scrap of meat.
It just keeps going.
Not only does he deserve it and worse, she can let out all the steam that’s been building inside her.
~~~~~~
“A perfect match,” Alma hummed, as Bruno poured them all another round of wine. “Isabela deserves the best and that is what she has. They will both bring so much good to the Encanto.”
“I can’t believe it. Where has the time gone?” Bruno added.
Pepa nodded, still drying her hair. “It feels like just yesterday Isabela was born and now she’s married and going to have babies of her own.”
“That will be our Lolita soon,” Félix smiled.
“I’m too young to have grandchildren! We’re too young to have grandchildren! No offence, Mama.”
Alma was in too good a mood to even remotely care.
“Is it really Dolores’ wedding next?” Bruno asked, teasing. “Because I had a little peek into the future and I saw—”
“NO! DON’T YOU DARE RUIN IT! I DON’T WANT TO KNOW!” Pepa shrieked.
Bruno held his hands up in surrender as his sister began a play fight with him, Félix laughed riotously.
“Hey, I was only kidding!”
“Well, I don’t believe you!”
Alma chuckled too, before getting up. “I am going to check on Julieta and Agustín.”
“You do that,” Félix said. “I’ll keep an eye on these two.”
The rest of the grandkids, all of whom were drunk, were out in the courtyard, hyper as anything.
Camilo, Antonio and a variety of animals were dancing while Dolores played some lively tune on her bandola; Luisa singing a completely different song over the top.
Honestly, you wouldn’t know they were adults.
On any other day, she would probably have scolded them and sent them to bed. For now though, she is happy enough to just leave them. They aren’t hurting anyone or causing any trouble, to be fair.
Agustín and Julieta were sat quietly in another room, without the wine. Julieta has been in an odd state for the past few years with seemingly new cure, and Agustín has always preferred to keep some distance from his mother-in-law when he can help it.
But they should be together right now. This is Isabela’s day and they have all been her biggest supporters.
“They certainly make the happy couple,” Alma said, taking a seat beside them.
“Indeed.” Agustín agrees. “I had my doubts about this match, but I’m glad that I’ve been proved wrong.”
“So long as my girls are happy, then I’m happy.” Julieta declares.
“Well, mija, I can attest that Luisa is definitely happy.” She paused, trying to get the pair to hear the carryon happening outside. “And trying to make herself a soprano, apparently.”
After some wonky, forced long note from Luisa, they broke into laughter.
“It’s nice to see the kids are still enjoying life and spending time together,” Agustín remarked, smiling fondly.
Julieta’s smile drops.
“Not all of them.”
~~~~~~
Long after Milagro is gone and her temper has cooled, Isabela heads downstairs.
It’s late now.
The rest of the family is in bed. Or at least in their rooms.
She doesn’t know where Milagro went after she kicked him out, probably the guest bedroom, but she doesn’t care enough to check. He can sleep outside for all she cares.
She heard some footsteps on the way to the kitchen, but brushed them off.
One of Antonio’s animals, no doubt.
In the kitchen, she makes her way over to the coffee pot. It’s half full, just needs to be reheated - no doubt Luisa has beaten her to their usual midnight drinks.
Casita takes over, sliding her signature cup along to her.
“What do you think of all this, Casita?”
A few tiles clink.
“Mirabel? I’d be lectured for at least two hours about failed marriages in history or something if she was still alive.” Isabela glanced to the side. “Can’t imagine how she’d take this… knowing I just went back.”
More clinking.
“Well, what was I meant to do? I couldn’t say no.”
A cupboard smacks her shoulder, lightly.
She chuckled. Taking off the wedding ring.
“Haha, good point. You know, I always thought getting out of the Guzmán engagement would make me happy, and now I’m about two seconds away from committing murder.”
The beams squeak supportively.
“It’s nice to know someone’s got my back.”
The coffee pot, ready, is tilted over Isabela’s cup, filling it to the brim.
“Maybe I’ll let it happen. Let the family see he’s awful and then I’ll be free.”
It smells as good as usual, there’s an underlying hint of something that isn’t coffee though. She shrugs, and drinks it anyways.
Luisa’s been drunk since the ceremony ended, who knows what she’s put in here since. It’s probably alcohol - that she’s added in some spark of creativity. And Isabela isn’t too against the idea of alcohol in her coffee at all - it’s an idea she’ll try later, when she isn’t about to go to bed.
It doesn’t taste any different though.
She lets Casita dispose of the ring.
She returns to her room steadily, not paying much attention to the beautiful decorations that have been hanging since this morning.
It’s one of the odd times where she wasn’t the one to decorate Casita in her flora - it was her day. Abuela had made it very clear that she didn’t want Isabela to lift a finger.
She never really got a chance to admire them this morning either. She’s spent most of the day outside of Casita and when they have been home, she was in her room, getting ready with Dolores, her maid of honour.
Ah well.
They will still be there tomorrow.
All that matters now is that she’s alone, out of that hideous wedding dress and can sleep off her frustration with a drink.
She doesn’t bother switching on the light, just clambers into bed and setting the cup on her bedside table.
The café con leche is as inviting as always.
Tumblr media
[Note reads, not in Isabela’s handwriting:
Dear family,
This is not about you, this is about me. I can’t cope with the pressure of being the perfect Madrigal any longer. I was not made to be a wife and mother - my most sincere apologies to Milagro, mi vida. I tried. You should not blame yourselves. I hope whatever is is next is better than this.
— Isabela]
Description:
- Couples Song Association
Word Count:
- 1k
Kᴏʀᴅᴇɪ Cᴏʀsᴏ
(core-dee-uh   core-so)
"Hi guys I'm Kordei", Kordei started.
"And I'm Jack Harlow", he said and nodded at the camera.
"Today we're doing the first ever Couples Edition Song Association with Elle", Kordei said and smiled.
For those of you who don't know, the rules are simple. They will be given a word and will have ten seconds to sing or rap a song with that word in it.
Song Association
Couples Edition
Kordei Corso & Jack Harlow
"Vocal exercises before we start?", Kordei asked Jack.
"I do this one thing", he said shrugging his shoulders. "Brrrd brrrd ahhh."
She looked at him then back at the camera.
"I'm not doing that", she laughed.
Word: Love
"Love", Kordei read off the screen. "Easy. Love, so many things I got tell you but I'm afraid I don't know how. Love by Musiq Soulchild."
The bell dinged.
"Didn't even give me a chance to think", Jack chuckled.
"We only got ten seconds you don't have time to think", Kordei said and laughed.
Word: Night
"Night", Jack said.
"Can we use plural versions?", I asked.
One of the crew members nodded their head and gave her a thumbs up.
"On some nights like this shawty I can't help but think of us", I sung before the time ended. "Nights Like This. Kehlani and Ty Dolla Sign."
The bell dinged.
Word: Hater
"Bae you better get this one... Hater ", Kordei said then the time started. "You have a song with this in it."
"I said this in a song?", he asked arching his brow.
"In plural form you did."
"Imma be upset if you can't think of the song", I said looking at him as I crossed my arms.
He hummed to himself thinking hard.
"Five seconds", she warned.
"They be like "Jack go get 'em," okay I'm bout to get 'em. My haters keep on talking, but these lyrics gon out live 'em", he rapped.
"Told you", she said looking back at the camera. "Poison by him and Lil Wayne."
Word: Infactuation
"Infactuation", Jack said.
"Infactuation? You sure you read that right", she said and leaned over him to look at his monitor.
"That's what it says", he chuckled.
"Infactuation. How do you even use that in a song?", she hummed, sitting back up in her seat.
"Four seconds. I know you got something baby. Cause I know for sure I don't."
"OHH! Girl I'm in love with you but this ain't the honeymoon. We passed the infatuation phase", she sung. "Ordinary People. John Legend."
The bell dinged.
"That was close."
"Right", she chuckled.
Word: High
"Ok next word...High", Kordei said.
"Easy", Jack hummed. "I drink til I'm drunk, smoke til I'm high. Castle on the hill, wake up in the sky. You can't tell me I ain't fly. Wake Up in the Sky by Gucci Mane, Bruno Mars and Kodak Black."
The bell dinged.
"You deserve a kiss for that one", Kordei said and leaned over and pecked his lips. "First one he got by himself."
Word: Blue
"Blue", Jack said.
"My blue jeans. Will last me all, my life", she sung and the bell dinged. "Japanese Denim. Daniel Caesar."
The bell dinged.
Word: Flashy
"Flashy", Jack said.
"I got a good one", Kordei hummed.
"I must be gettin' too flashy? Y'all shouldn't have let the world gas me. It's too late 'cause I'm here to stay. And these girls know that I'm nasty", she rapped and the bell dinged. "Industry Baby by Lil Nas X."
"I'm pretty sure someone else was on the song too", Jack chuckled.
"Noo I don't think so."
"That wasn't Nas verse you just rapped."
"Next word", she laughed.
"I was also on the song. She rapped my verse", he said into the camera.
"He's so self centered sometimes", she said and playfully rolled her eyes.
Word: Together
"Together", Kordei said.
"Did they say together in just the two of us?", Jack asked
"I don't think they did", she sighed as she continued thinking.
They looked at the time. Six seconds.
"Oooh. And even when we are apart, it still feels like we're together, Mariaa", she sung then looked at the camera. "Maria Maria. Santana and The Product G&B."
The bell dinged.
"I'm really carrying us right now", she said and playfully elbowed him.
Word: Money
"Money", Jack said.
"Uh uh Tupac said money", Kordei said and started snapping her figures trying to remember. "Bae you know that song, I always rap it."
She tapped his leg.
"Can't C Me?", he asked.
"Yes! They got me stressed out on Death Row. I seen money, but baby, I gots to get mo'. You screaming go Tupac, and I ain't stopping till I'm well paid. Bails paid, now, n-, look what hell made", she rapped.
She held her arm up and flexed her imaginary muscles. "This is too easy. We're gonna win this for sure."
Word: Baby
"Alright, I'm leaving the last one to you cause I've won us majority of our points", Kordei said turning to Jack.
"Bet."
"Last word is baby."
"Baby?", he hummed.
"Six seconds", she warned.
"Show you a link, now you workin', my baby. You f- on on me, it feel personal, baby. Trust me, it's comin' full circle, my baby", he rapped.
"P power by Gunna and Drake", she said smiling. "You know what that means."
The bell dinged continuously.
"We won every round.. Nice way to start off the couple's edition of Song Association don't you think baby?"
"Thanks to you of course. You carried."
"Anyways thanks for watching and be on the lookout for me and Jack's joint album coming out next month. It Wasn't Over Until We Stopped It: Louisville Takeover", she said and saw him furrow his brows on the monitor.
"Why the title so long?", he asked.
"I don't know you named it", she chuckled and shrugged her shoulders.
He looked at her for a second then back at the camera. "We do not have an album on the way."
"You supposed to go with it. Keep them on their toes."
"Maybe if the title would've been shorter", he chuckled.
Bruno: What would you do? Oscar: Don’t ask her! She’s more impulsive than all of us combined. Courtney: [laughs] I would’ve said yes there and then.
Bruno: Psh, I’m surrounded by reckless extroverts. Ivan: How is it reckless though? Bruno: It’s a pretty big deal.
Oscar: Only if you make it so. Ivan: It ain’t like we can have biological kids, is it? They’re handin’ you the next best thing n’ you’re gonna say no? Bruno: You know it wouldn’t be our baby, right?
Ivan: I know, but it’d still be your flesh n’ blood; n’ don’t forget, they said y’could be involved if y’wanted. Oscar: You wouldn’t have brought it up again if you weren’t tempted. [Bruno rolls his eyes, wishing he hadn’t said anything]
Oscar: Look at that lil’ face n’ tell me you don’t want one. Bruno: That’s not the point. Courtney: What’re you scared of?
Ivan: He still reckons he’s gonna end up in the slammer. Bruno: Well, I don’t wanna cause them any grief. Oscar: I doubt you’d have to worry about that, you wouldn’t be a legal parent-.. unless they made you one.
Bruno: I’d make sure they didn’t. Courtney: Ah, that means you’ve thought about it. Ivan: I still reckon y’should talk t’the feds, it’d be a weight off y’shoulders.
Bruno: [sighs] Unlikely. Courtney: You knew more about what went on than these two ever did, maybe you should tell them. Oscar: How much do you know?
Bruno: Not much more than you lot… Oscar: Hm. Ivan: It’s not like y’gotta bring up anythin’ else.
Courtney: I think you’d know by now if they were after you personally, helping them could put your mind at ease? Ivan: That’s what-… Bruno: I’ll think about it, okay? Fucking hell.
Bruno: If you’re gonna try and convince-… Oscar: I’m not. Bruno: I know I ought to help, but it shouldn’t be up to us.
Oscar: If you told me, I could pass it on? Bruno: No, you have a family. Oscar: Ivan would-…
Bruno: I’ll do it myself. Oscar: Maybe you oughta find a lawyer. Bruno: [sighs] A lawyer would tell me to keep my mouth shut.
Hi, What would the RE8 women react to Y/N singing “We don’t talk about Bruno” from the movie “Encanto” from Disney. Thanks!
Ooh! Good one. Quickly, I have to share this story because I love Encanto. Jessica Darrow (The voice of Luisa) did a virtual celeb visit at the children’s hospital that I work at. A couple employees got to ask her a question (I was lucky and got picked!) I asked her what power she would want from the movie and she said she wanted the power to talk to animals. Like, I love that for her. Anyway, one of the kiddos asked her to sing Surface Pressure and she had them sing it with her and I thought I was going to cry (it meant so much to the kid! T^T) I love Encanto sm. Now, on to the ask!
Alcina:
Tumblr media
She can tell that the song is a bop, but 3 problems: She don’t know what it’s from, she don’t know who Bruno is, and she don’t know how long she can keep listening to Y/N sing “A seven-foot frame, rats along his back” (That’s their favorite part and they just sing it over and over) Please, Y/N. Vampire Mommy has a headache. Knock it off.
Donna:
Tumblr media
When Y/N gets to the part that Isabella sings, they always insist that the character reminds them of Donna because she can control plants (And is fucking gorgeous, but I digress). Donna sort of understands what Y/N is getting at, but she’s never seen the movie. Y/N makes it a point to not only watch the film with Donna a few times, but also lay out an entire damn character analysis of Isabella so the doll maker can get a better picture. Donna’s too polite to say anything, but in her head she thinks Y/N is a complete idiot… easy to love though…
Miranda:
Tumblr media
Miranda is done with Y/N’s bullshit. Seriously Y/N, Miranda kidnapped a baby, broke her into fucking pieces and has literally killed thousands of people… Either sleep with one eye open or quit singing “I associate him with the sound of falling sand” with weird intensity on repeat. It’s for your own good.
Bela:
Tumblr media
Bela likes music. Like, a lot. She studies it. Like, a lot. But the thing is, she primarily listens to classical and opera. She doesn’t know what to do with a catchy Pop Salsa tune. Like, what meter is this song in? How many styles have been incorporated? Is that polyphony she hears? (What a nerd oh my goddd) Y/N just wants her to enjoy it without getting caught up in the theory of it all… Maybe with time she’ll get better at doing that?
Update: She’s currently ripping her hair out trying to analyze the song. Y/N hasn’t slept in days ‘cause she won’t shut up about her research… And that’s what you get for being a nuisance all the time, Y/N XD
Cassandra:
Tumblr media
Cassandra is a logical person. She sees a problem? (Like Y/N singing at the top of their lungs) She fixes it. Y/N better not complain. Cass originally wanted to cut out their tongue, but Dani suggested she try this first. Honestly, Y/N is beating the odds on how they’ve been able to survive this long… maybe they should go out and buy a lottery ticket… Or go stand on top of the castle to see if they can get struck by lightning.
Daniela:
Tumblr media
Nobody screeches Encanto songs harder than Dani. The noise level gets so loud in the castle when Y/N and Dani sing together that Alcina throws them in the dungeon for a few hours to let them both get it out of their systems. They always end up having brutal sex once they’re down there though… Alci learned that the hard way. One time she walked in and saw Y/N kissing their way up Daniela’s body to the rhythm of “Bruno no, no” while Dani sang, called them a hoe and spit on them… These two nasty.
Saturday, December 7th- Grand Ballroom- Fairmont Hotel- Pittsburgh
Sidney found Evie near the rear bar in the festively decorated ballroom space. She spoked animatedly to Kelsey Rust. He approached her and whispered in her ear, “It’s time.” She turned to him with a smile. He grabbed her hand and squeezed it while she said her goodbye. Together, they walked quickly to the stage where the party band was finishing up their song, “Marry You” by Bruno Mars. Bruno Mars - Marry You (Official Lyric Video)
The lead singer got the crowd's attention and spoke into the microphone, “Let’s give it up for guests of honor- Sidney and Evie.”
Sidney, dressed in his tuxedo, led Evie, who wore a short white sparkly dress, onto the stage. The singer handed Sidney the microphone with a flourish. Sidney wrapped his arm around Evie’s waist and brought the microphone to his mouth.
“Good evening everyone!” he started as the crowd cheered and Evie grinned.
“Evie and I want to welcome you to our engagement party. It means so much to each of us that would take the time to come celebrate our love and romance,” he continued before he turned to Evie. “Evie, I was just thinking about the words to that song. He sang joyfully, 'Cause it's a beautiful night, we're looking for something dumb to do. Hey baby, I think I wanna marry you’. What do you say? How about we get married tonight?”
The crowd erupted in cheers when Evie took the microphone and said, “I thought you would never ask. Let’s do it, Beso!”
The cheers turned into shocked expressions when Sidney took the microphone again. “I can’t lie to you. We had that bit planned, but we decided that since I am not playing right now and Evie’s always wanted a holiday wedding that we would go ahead and get married tonight.” Family and friends looked to Trina and Troy Crosby who shrugged their shoulders. “So if you all will make your way to the ballroom across the hall, we are going to have a quick wedding ceremony,” he added. “Give Evie just a few minutes for a wardrobe change and wait for the music. We will start in about thirty minutes,” he announced. The band cranked back up and sang the song. Sidney and Evie made their way off the stage. They danced and sang as they made their way through the crowd to the corridor. He pulled her into a tight hug. “Well, no turning back now,” he said as he kissed her, “Go, get ready Mon Etoile. I will be waiting for you at the end of the aisle.”
“Thirty minutes, Beso,” she laughed, “Give me half an hour to transform into your princess.”
“You are always my princess, even in sweats,” he smiled back.
“I’ll see you in there,” she said as she began to walk away, “You can’t miss me. I’ll be the one in white.”
“Can’t wait,” he said as he blew her a kiss.
“Me either,” she yelled back.
THREE WEEKS EARLIER- NOVEMBER 14TH-RITZ CARLTON- PHILADELPHIA
"So what's the idea," Evie asked.
"Let's get married at the engagement party," he said. She opened her mouth to object and her stopped her. "Think about it, Evie," he said, "You already have the catering, band and decor planned. We just need to add another ballroom for a ceremony and additional floral decor."
"What about the ceremony? If you want a Catholic ceremony, it needs to be at a church," she protested.
"They make exceptions all the time. If they won't make an exception, then we will do a non-denominational ceremony," he argued.
"It will take a lot of work," she said as her mind raced with the details that would need to be completed. "What about the people in Nova Scotia who won't be there? They will miss it," she pondered.
"We can do both," he smiled, "Get married now and have the big party in the summer." When Evie hesitated, he got serious. "Evie, I am tired of waiting to marry you. I want you to be my wife. I want to be your husband. I know I said summer but I don't want to wait any more.Why should we? I am ready to stand in front of our family and friends and exchange our vows." Evie tried to come up with a reasonable objection without success. "Evie, you can have your dream wedding. You can have the Christmas wedding that you always wanted. Maybe this can be the silver lining from the surgery. We can have it all."
Evie warmed to the idea, "If we do it, and I mean IF, should we make it a surprise? I think we need to prepare your parents and Adriana will figure it out if we make changes to the set-up."
Sidney smiled, "Keep it a secret-no one knows except for the wedding party and my family. What do you think? Let's get married. Say yes, please say yes."
“I think that it’s crazy, but I think we should do it,” she beamed.
“Really?” he asked, thrilled that she was even considering it.
“Yes, let’s make your masterplan a reality,” cheered, “Let’s do it!”
NOVEMBER 18TH-SIDNEY’S HOUSE- SEWICKLEY, PA
Sidney dialed Evie for a FaceTime call.
Evie: Beso-are you okay?
Sidney: Geno is being mean to me.
Evie: How is he being mean? What's going on?
Sidney: I am hungry and he won't make me food.
Geno shouted from the kitchen- He is lying, Evie.
Sidney: No, I am not, Evie. I just want a grilled cheese sandwich and he won’t make me one.
Geno: I made him two sandwiches already. No good for him. He too picky.
Evie: Is that true, Beso?
Sidney: They weren't like yours, Evie. He didn't use enough cheese like you.
Evie: I'll make you one when I get home. How about you have some of the leftover pasta from last night right now?
Sidney: When will you be home? I miss you.
Evie checked her watch and grimaced: I am going as fast as I can. I still need to talk to Adriana.
Sidney whined: How much longer?
Evie: Eat some pasta, take your medicine and then nap. I will be back before you wake up.
Sidney: You promise?
Evie: Yes, and I will bring you a treat if you quit giving Geno a hard time.
Adriana laughed from the door.  Evie turned and smiled.
Evie: Do we have a deal,  Beso?
Sidney: Okay, but come home soon.
Evie finished her goodbyes to Sidney and waved Adriana into the conference room that she had turned into a makeshift office.
Adriana: Gringo Boy is being a baby?
Evie raised an eyebrow: A- be nice. He is still in pain and going a little stir crazy. He is allowed to be a little needy.
Adriana: How many times has he FaceTimed you today?
Evie blushed: That's Facetime number three
"So why are you in the office today?" Adriana asked as she came in and took a seat.
Evie looked up, "I needed to walk the ballroom to see if my changes would work."
"Changes to the engagement Party?", Adriana asked incredulously. She would not go as far as to call Evie a Bridezilla, but the planning of the engagement party had been meticulous with multiple meetings to nail down all the details. With the date less than three weeks away, Adriana was confused as to what changes could be made.
"Yes, I'm just adding some space for the ceremony," Evie replied coolly. "The Knox is available and it will work for what we need."
 Adriana blinked slowly. "What kind of ceremony?"
 Evie smiled, "It has to be a secret."
"What has to be a secret?" Adriana leaned forward.
"Sidney and I are going to get married at the engagement party," Evie leaned forward and spoke in a conspiratorial tone. "We are changing the engagement party into a wedding," she added.
"What? Why?" Adriana gasped. Then she looked down at Evie's abdomen. "Are you pregnant?"
"Noooooo!" Evie shrieked. Adriana raised an eyebrow as Evie explained. "It was Sidney's idea. You know I wanted a Christmas wedding because my parents had one. It was the reason we chose the date for the engagement party. With Sidney's surgery and recovery time, we have the opportunity to actually get married on my parent's anniversary," she rambled. "I mean everything is basically planned. We just needed the ceremony space. The Knox ballroom is available. We just need to adjust the contract a bit to add it, change the menu a bit and add wedding cake."
Adriana smiled, "Evie…..You are going to get married in three weeks? Have you thought of everything? You need a bouquet. Will your dress be in by then? I thought it was going to take six months for the dresses.”
“Shit, I forgot about the dress.” Evie said in frustration, I can’t believe I forgot about the dress.”
“Hey Evita,” Adriana soothed, “You just need a fairy godmother or kick ass best friend. You’re lucky that you have one of those. We’ll get it all worked out. Focus on what matters right now which is getting Sidney healthy. We’ll divide and conquer the rest.”
Evie smiled, “You’re the best A.”
Together they sat down and created a list of everything that would have to get done. They divided it into different categories- Evie, Adriana and Sidney. Evie was in charge of bridal party wardrobe and floral decor changes. Adriana would handle the logistics of the hotel. Sidney was assigned the task of the marriage license, wedding officiant and other legal issues. By the time she left to go home, Evie felt confident that Sidney's masterplan was going to become a reality.
EARLY EVENING- SIDNEY’S HOUSE- SEWICKLEY, PA
“Beso,” Evie called out as she entered the house, “I’m home.”
“I’m in the living room,” he groaned as she walked inside. She picked up the pace when she heard the sound of his voice. He was lounging on the couch with the TV.
Geno poked his head out of the kitchen. "You home! Thank God- he is impossible to please.” Sidney glared at Geno and folded his arms. Evie walked over to the couch and kissed the top of his head. Geno continued to complain. "First pasta was too cold, then pasta was too hot, and we wait until it was just right," the Russian complained.
Sidney shrugged his shoulders, "I like it at the right temperature- that's all."
Evie pursed her lips together, "Did you take your pain medicine? What's your level at?"
Geno walked in, "He refuse pill. Think he is tough man."
Evie got up and retrieved his medicine along with some orange  juice. She placed the pill in Sidney's hand. "Take it," she demanded. He opened his mouth to object. "Then stand up," she challenged, "by yourself." He took the pill without further complaint. "Now say thank you to Geno for taking care of you," she commanded.
"Thank you, Geno," Sidney obeyed.
Evie gave him another kiss in the head, "I am going to walk Geno out. Think about what you want to eat."
“Just order in food,” Sidney pouted, “I want you here with me, not in the kitchen. You were gone too long.”
Evie smiled as she returned to the couch with phone in hand. She reclined on her end of the couch and he moved gingerly to rest his head in her lap. She ran her right hand through his hair as he looked up at her. “Tell me about your day,” he requested. She told him about the mountain of emails that waited for her. She had worked as much as possible from her phone while they were in Philly, but her first full day “back in the office” was full of demands. “Did you tell A about Operation Iceburgh?” he asked with a smile. He was really quite pleased with himself for coming up with the code name for their plan. “What did she say?” he asked.
“Well, she asked if I was pregnant,” Evie chuckled. Sidney’s eyes widened in surprise. “People will make assumptions about why we are moving it up, Beso,” she smiled, “They will figure it out when I get drunk at the wedding or when my belly doesn’t start to grow.”
Sidney grimaced, “I don’t want people to think we are getting married out of obligation. I want them to know the truth.”
Evie caressed his cheek, “I think that we are safe, Sidney. We’ve been engaged for a couple of months. I am pretty sure that people will know the truth.” She gazed into his eyes and saw his pupils dilating slightly- the telltale sign the pain medicine was kicking in.
“We are getting married because we are in love,” he insisted.
She nodded her head in amusement, “Yes, we are, Beso. We are getting married because you love me and I love you. People will figure it out.”
“We are in love,” he said emphatically.
Evie steered the conversation into a different direction, “So what did you parents say when you told them?” His eyebrows knitted together. “You did call them, right?” she asked, “Beso, we need to tell them soon so they can arrange travel.”
“I forgot. I got busy arguing with Geno and forgot,” he answered sheepishly, “I will call right now.” He dug his phone out of his pocket and FaceTimed his parents.
Troy: Hey Sid- How are you feeling? Did you survive the day without Evie?
Sid: I am okay. The pain is manageable today. Today was awful without Evie.
Trina: What made it awful, Sid?
Sidney: She wasn’t here. I missed her. Also, Geno was mean to me.
Trina: Geno was mean? How was Geno mean?
Sidney: He wouldn’t make me food until Evie made him.
Evie lifted the phone out of his hand and spoke directly to Trina.
Evie: Sidney was being particular about his grilled cheese sandwich. Apparently Geno doesn’t use the same amount of cheese as I do. They settled on pasta instead. Isn’t that right, Sidney?
Sidney nodded his head as if his parents could still see his face.
Evie: Here’s Sidney back.
Sidney: I have an announcement to make.
He paused and looked at Evie.
Sidney: Well, we have an announcement to make.
His parents looked on in anticipation.
Sidney: I am going marry Evie sooner. No waiting until summer. Summer is too long to wait.
Troy and Trina looked at each other and then at Sidney.
Trina spoke slowly: I am sorry. What did you say?
Sidney: I am going to marry Evie at the engagement party. Not going to wait. Nope, going to do it then. She is going to be my WIFE.
Sidney's speech started to slow and he smiled helplessly. He leaned his head back and smiled at Evie. His parents looked at each in confusion.
Evie grabbed the phone again.
Evie: We decided to get married at the engagement party. It’s going to surprise everyone except the wedding party and family.
Troy: Why the change in plans? Is there anything else going on?
Sidney’s eyes got big and he grabbed the phone back: SHE IS NOT PREGNANT. No, she is not pregnant. She going to get her period this weekend. Definitely not pregnant. Not pregnant yet, but one day she will get pregnant. I will do it. Evie, I am going to get you pregnant one day. We’re going to have babies. I want to have babies with you.
Evie grabbed the phone again and patted Sidney’s head.
Evie: Wow, that was TMI, Sidney.
Evie blushed and smiled timidly at Trina and Troy who were bouncing between the need to laugh and confusion on the new plan.
Evie: Since Sidney is on injured reserve and won’t be playing for a while, we are going to take the opportunity to have the Christmas wedding that I wanted. We will be able to have the same anniversary as my parents.
Trina: Wow. That’s a big change. What about all the deposits we put down here?
Evie: We are going to keep everything the same. We’ll re-do the ceremony and vows and then have the big party still.
Sidney grabbed the phone and smiled at his parents.
Sidney: It’s in less than three weeks. You need to come. And Taylor, too. She needs to come because we are getting married. Yes, we are getting married because we are IN LOVE, not because Evie is pregnant.
Troy: Sid, that’s great. You sound like you could use a little rest since your pain meds kicked in.
Sidney: Yep, I am sleepy.
He yawned loudly before he perked up.
Sidney shouted: Evie!
Evie laughed: Yes, Sidney?
Sidney: We’ll be married at Christmas. When we go home to Nova Scotia for Christmas, I will be your HUSBAND-not your fiancé.
Evie: That’s true. Now say goodbye to your parents.
Sidney smiled a goofy grin: Bye. My fiancé told me to say bye. Bye!
Evie took the phone from his hand: Sorry for the goofiness. He just had pain meds. I will update you with the details. See you soon.
She placed the phone on the side table and looked down at Sidney who continued to gaze up at her lovingly.
Sidney: Check that off of the list.
Evie: Speaking of list, I have a list of stuff for you to start doing for the wedding. Can I trust you to get it all done?
Sidney: Yes ma’am
He mock saluted her and she mussed his hair.
Evie: I think it’s time to get you some dinner into you before you crash.
Sidney: Yes ma’am
Evie laughed: I don’t know, Sidney. I am digging this agreeable and compliant version of you.
Sidney wiggled his eyebrows: Don’t get used it, Evie. I will return to bossiness when I feel better. I’ll show you who’s in charge around here.
Evie: Promises, promises. You have another two and half weeks before you can do that.
BLACK FRIDAY-NOVEMBER 22ND-SIDNEYS HOUSE- SEWICKLEY, PA
Sidney was in the basement watching the Penn State game with several guys from the team when a notification popped up on his phone.
Tumblr media
His head popped up when he heard the door leading in from the garage slam shut. Sidney got up from the sectional and called back to the guys, “I’ll be back. Evie’s home.” When he emerged at the top of the stairs, he saw her standing in the walk-in pantry. He could tell from her head movement that she was in search of something specific.
“Mon Etoile,” he said softly, “How did it go?”
She didn’t turn around. Instead, she stepped further into the pantry. “Do we have any chocolate? I NEED some chocolate,” she whined. The slight nasal tinge to her voice told him that she had been crying. Adriana had not exaggerated with her text.
“Remember- you threw all the sweets and junk food in the trash yesterday?” he answered. “You said that you had stuffed yourself on Thanksgiving so you needed to get back in control,” he said hesitantly.
“Are you fucking kidding me?” she squealed as she remembered. “Let’s eat healthy” Evie had been very thorough in her purge of the pantry. “Why did you let me do that, Beso?” she continued to whine. Sidney paused and stared. She turned to face him. Her face was stained with tears and she put her hands on her hips. It was abundantly clear to Sidney that there was no good answer to her question, but he answered anyway.
“You said that you have to fit into a dress in two weeks. You didn’t want to gain any weight,” he offered. “Personally I don’t think that you have to worry about that at all,” he began to add, “I think that your body is absolutely perfect. Any dress you pick will look great.”
She stepped out of the pantry and slammed the door. The noise was loud enough for the group of guys below to look up in surprise. “Well, I don’t have to worry about that now,” she huffed.
“You don’t have to worry about what now?” Sidney questioned.
“I don’t have to worry about fitting into a dress because I can’t find a damn dress,” she cried out loudly.
“What do you mean you can’t find a dress?” Sidney blinked, “You’ve been gone all day long. You didn’t find a dress?”
“No, I didn’t find a dress, Sidney,” she crossed her arms over her chest. “We went to six stores and nothing,” she said as she fought back tears. Sidney walked over to her and wrapped his arms around her. “I am not going to find one,” she cried into his chest, “I am not going to find a dress for the wedding.”
"Nothing in six shops? Really?" Sidney soothed. He felt her body tense beneath his touch and she placed her hands on his chest to push out of his grasp.
"Yes, really," she hissed, "You can ask Adriana if you don't believe me."
Sidney stepped back and began defensive maneuvers, "I believe you. Can you explain it to me though? I don't understand why it's so hard."
Evie started a tirade about dress lead times which necessitated getting an off the rack dress. The options of those dresses were limited and according to Evie, cheaply made and not good enough. By the end she had worked herself into a lather.
"Evie," he stared into her eyes, "It doesn't have to be the perfect dress. I think you are being too picky."
"YES, IT DOES! IT HAS TO BE PERFECT," she yelled, "I have to look beautiful for you. I have to look beautiful."
Sidney's mind raced. There had to be some sort of solution. "Are you sure that you can't get the other dress?" He asked for confirmation. He had been present, although heavily medicated, during a desperate phone call to Kleinfeld's bridal salon. "Would they sell you the sample dress?" he probed.
Evie's head popped up, "I forgot to ask."
"We'll call Monday," Sidney soothed, "We will find the perfect dress. I promise you. Don't stress yourself out."
Evie inhaled deeply, "Okay. How are you coming on your list? Is the priest set? Can he come down?"
Sid pursed his lips together, "about that…."
Evie stepped back and looked up at his face, "What?"
"Technically according to church law, the marriage ceremony must be performed inside of a church," he answered. When he saw the panic spread across her face, he added "Don't panic, don't panic." She leaned against the kitchen island and crossed her arms. "We can't get married in the eyes of the church here, but we can do that at the July ceremony in Halifax." She moved and began to pace. "Evie, don't panic," he added, "We can have the ceremony here performed by a justice of the peace or wedding officiant. Everything will be legal and we can do the religious part later." She stopped and stared at him. "I already booked the best rated one. We are all set," he smiled.
"Really? Thank you, Beso" she gave him a soft smile "What about the prenup? Does your lawyer have it almost ready?" she asked. Sidney stared at her. Evie crossed her arms again. "Have you even called your lawyer?" she probed, "Well?"
"You were serious? That wasn't a joke?”, he deadpanned.
"Yes, I was serious," she answered, "Of course we need a prenup."
"No, we don't. I am not doing it," he responded, raising his voice. "I can't believe you are even suggesting it. No, no way- It's going NOT to happen."
"Yes, it is. You have to have a prenup to protect your money. Ask the guys. They get prenups," she raised her voice in response.
"Protect my money from whom?" he raised her volume to match hers.
"From gold diggers!" she screamed.
"I am not marrying a golddigger," he stepped forward and screamed, "I am marrying YOU. Are you a gold digger all of a sudden? Since when?"
Evie stepped forward and yelled back, "Do you think I am? Is that what you think?" Downstairs Geno and Letang exchanged glances. The words were unclear but the volume said it all.
"Evie, what the hell are you talking about?" Sidney took his tone up a notch, "You brought up gold diggers. You brought up a prenup, not me!"
"People will ask, Sidney," she brought her voice down a notch.
"So what? Let them ask," he dropped his tone.
"They will think I am taking advantage. They will assume I am only after your money," she insisted.
"And?" his tone rose again.
"What do you mean and?" Her volume rose again.
"I don't give a fuck what other people think. I know that you are not." He yelled, "This is exhausting, Evie. It's tiring and frankly, insulting."
"I just….." her voice lowered, "I just don't want people to think…." Her voice trailed off.
"Look, I know that Thad fucked with your head about that, but when are you going to let it go," he pleaded, "When are going to trust me?"
"I do trust you," she said in a hushed tone."
"You are not acting like it. You are not acting at all," Sidney answered with a pained expression on his face.
"Beso," she took a step towards him, "I do trust you. You know that."
"Then start acting like it," he sighed, "I am going to go back downstairs. I don't want to be around you right now."
"Beso," she stepped toward him and put her hand on his chest, "I don't want to fight. I'm sorry. I don't want to fight."
"Me either," he said, "I will talk to you later." He turned and walked away. When he got downstairs, Geno greeted him with a cold beer. Sidney grabbed it from his hand and took a long swig. "Did everyone hear?" he asked quietly.
"We heard voices but not what was said," the Russian answered casually, "Don't worry. Everyone married. We know women."
Sidney took another swig. He wasn't necessarily embarrassed that his teammates heard them fighting. It was more that they fought at all. He shook his head and tried to clear his head.
Tumblr media
He smiled at his phone before he sat. Geno looked over with a grin "See, I told you no worry." Sid nodded his head and relaxed.
Upstairs, in their bedroom, Evie undressed, started a hot shower before she went to pee. She groaned as she wiped. "Damn," she thought to herself, "That explains so much." She also smiled at the memory of Sidney's drug-addled conversation with his parents. Even high as a kite, he knew that her period should start that day. Nothing slipped past his notice.
She took a long, leisurely shower and dressed in soft, fleece pajamas with fuzzy socks. Evie pulled the blanket up to her chin and rested her head on the pillow. She stared at the ceiling and replayed each dress from the day. Surely, one of them would work. As each dress was eliminated in her mind, she tried to force her mind to relax. The adrenaline from her argument with Sidney still pulsed through her veins. She opened her eyes and looked at her phone. It was a little after eight PM.
With a sigh, she stood up and walked out the bedroom. She wandered aimlessly until she eyed the door to the attic. The only thing left unpacked from her official move into Sidney's house were the dozen or so large boxes from her parent's house in Dallas. When she sold the house, the one luxury that she allowed herself were professional packers.
It was too soon after her parent's deaths to go through the contents of the house herself. Each item contained too many memories. With the exception of her bedroom furniture, every single household item was donated to a local thrift shop benefiting LGBT youths. Her bedroom furniture and all personal mementos of her parents were boxed up and delivered to her small grad student apartment. After graduation, the contents were moved to her apartment. Then it moved to her cottage and now to Sidney’s house. She mentally corrected herself- our house. It had been moved to our house.
Evie opened the door and climbed the stairs. The attic was uncluttered. Most of Sidney's mementos were stored either at his parent's home or a climate controlled storage unit. The boxes from her parent's home were stacked neatly to the side.
She walked over to the first box and opened it. Inside were the contents of her childhood bedroom. She took out her phone, turned on Spotify and hit shuffle. Gingerly she picked up the homecoming mum that had been placed on top. Evie's fingers ran over the long ribbons that were bedazzled with glittery letters. Each ribbon contained a different message- Homecoming 2009, HP Scots, HP Belles Captain, Thad and Evie with a heart.
She remembered the pride she felt that night she wore the mum to the game. Thad Wilson was her boyfriend. Together they made quite the power couple. He being the star of the football team and she being a drill team officer. Little did she know at the time that none of it would make a difference in her life. Evie put the mum down and glanced at the rest of the box.
Downstairs, in the basement, Sidney glanced at the stairs every few minutes. It didn't take long for Geno to notice. One of the benefits of being teammates for so long was the ability to decipher the unsaid messages. Sidney's message was loud and clear. He was desperate to find Evie and resolve their conflict, but was unwilling to risk appearing rude to his guests. So when the game ended, Geno stood and abruptly said that it was time for everyone to go. "Go, go, go," the Russian barked, "Sid still recovering. He need Evie to take care of him. Out- everybody out."
Sidney smiled a sly grin and escorted everyone upstairs. No sooner than when the door shut, he started climbing the stairs. He opened the bedroom door and saw the bed empty. "Evie," he called out in case she was in the bathroom. When he received no response, he turned to leave. Possibly she had gone down to the kitchen he thought to himself. As he walked down the hall, he heard the sound of music. He turned in the direction of the sound and saw the door to the attic open.
Sidney climbed the stairs while calling out, "Evie?" When he reached the top, he stopped and gazed at Evie. She sat with her back to him. A box of mementos spread before her and she sang a sad song.
That I'm not a princess, this ain't a fairy tale
I'm not the one you'll sweep off her feet
Lead her up the stairwell
This ain't Hollywood, this is a small town
I was a dreamer before you went and let me down
Now it's too late for you and your white horse
To come around
"Evie," Sidney said softly. She turned to him and he saw her tear-stained face. She got up and ran to him. He embraced her as she threw herself into his arms. The song continued as he held her.
Maybe I was naive, got lost in your eyes
And never really had a chance
My mistake, I didn't know to be in love
You had to fight to have the upper hand
I had so many dreams about you and me
Happy endings, now I know
Evie pressed her face and whispered "I'm sorry, Sidney. I am so sorry." He pressed his hand behind her head.
And there you are on your knees
Begging for forgiveness, begging for me
Just like I always wanted but I'm so sorry
Evie leaned back and sang to Sidney who looked confused.
'Cause I'm not your princess, this ain't a fairytale
I'm gonna find someone someday
Who might actually treat me well
This is a big world, that was a small town
There in my rear-view mirror disappearing now
And it's too late for you and your white horse
Now it's too late for you and your white horse
To catch me now
When the song ended,.he questioned, "Evie?" as he wiped her tears, "What are you doing up here? Why are you crying?"
She stepped back and pointed to the boxes. "I couldn't sleep and didn't want to go downstairs. I came up here to go through these boxes." She moved towards them.
"What boxes are they?" he said as he followed her.
"It's stuff from my parent's house. I never had the courage to go through them. I am not sure what made me do it tonight," she explained.
"Why are you crying?" He asked.
She looked back at the open boxes. "These boxes are everything from the Thad years," she offered, "I was going down that not-so-pleasant memory lane when our break-up song came on."
"What's the name of the song?" He asked, curious to learn more.
"White Horse," Evie informed him. She turned to Sidney. "I used to listen to it on repeat after he broke my heart." He pursed his lips and she stepped towards him. "I always focused on the chorus of 'That I'm not a princess, this ain't a fairytale'" she stated as she wrapped her arms around Sidney's waist. She pressed her forehead against his chest and kissed it softly. "I should have focused on 'Cause I'm not your princess, this ain't a fairytale.I'm gonna find someone someday who might actually treat me well," she said gazed into Sidney's eyes.
"I did," she sighed, "I found you. I wasn't his princess, but I am yours. You gave me the fairytale."
He smiled, "Yes, you are. You will always be my princess." He bent down to kiss her softly then he pressed his head against her forehead. "Unfortunately for our fairytale to work, we need to talk about earlier."
"Okay," she replied, "Can I say something in my defense? He nodded his head which caused her head to move in response. "It seems as if I had a surge of monthly hormones that were announcing the arrival of my period. It's not an excuse but it explains my overreaction a little bit, at least to me." She stepped back and sat down on the floor. Sidney followed suit. "The wedding stress is getting to me and I haven't been good about communicating that," she confessed.
He waited patiently for her to continue. "I know that I need to let go of the gold digger fear," she offered, "but I don't understand why you are so adamantly against it."
"I am against it because it is preparing for us to fail. I don't want to think about what may happen if we were to break up," Sidney stammered, "The thought of it gives me heart palpations. If I lose you, I lose everything. I won't care about the money. I won't care about anything." Evie watched as the panic spread through him as he spoke. He was right. Even just speaking about it caused a severe physical reaction.
Honestly, Evie's heart began to race at the thought. She had been so consumed with not wanting to appear like a gold digger that she lost sight of the circumstances that would proceed it. The thought of being separated from Sidney made her heart ache. "I'm sorry, Beso," she whispered, "I thought the prenup would protect you, but I hurt you." She put her hands on either side of his face, "If you don't want a prenup, we don't have to do it. I will drop the subject and we will never talk about it again." Sidney exhaled and she kissed him.
"I don't want one," he admitted, "We don't need one."
"Okay, mark it off the list," she smiled.
They stood silently for a moment. "Want to do another box?", he asked. He walked over and opened the next one. It was much larger than the previous two. Sidney picked up a large, red leather scrapbook embossed with names Vanessa and Mark. He held it up to Evie. She put her hand over her mouth in surprise. "Is this what I think it is?" he asked. She nodded her head. "Let's go downstairs and look at it together," he suggested. She stood, gathered her phone and led him downstairs.
Once they got settled together on the couch, Sidney opened the album. The first page contained a large photo of Mark proposing to Vanessa on one knee. On the opposite page, she had written the story of Mark's proposal. The evening was supposed to be a celebration of Mark's graduation from law school at SMU. However, right after the obligatory speeches from Mark and his parents, he called Vanessa up to the front to give a speech thanking her support before dropping to one knee. Sidney silently read the story while Evie looked at his face. "Wow," he said, "That was a sweet proposal." He turned his attention to the picture. His finger touched Vanessa's face. "You really look like them," he said before he turned to face her, "They made a beautiful baby."
"Thank you," she blushed as she turned the page.
When they got to the pages containing Vanessa's bridal portraits, Sidney looked up at Evie. "What are these?" he asked.
"What do you mean?" she asked.
“I thought that your parents got married in December. These pictures are taken in early fall or summer,” he said.
“Oh, those are her bridal portraits. I think it may be a southern thing,” she explained. “Brides get dressed up in their gowns and take pictures. It’s like a trial run of the wedding day for hair and make-up. Then one of the pictures gets enlarged and displayed at the wedding.”
“Oh,” he said and looked at the picture again. “That dress is gorgeous.”
“Yeah,” Evie said softly, “Once I decided to embrace the princess vibe, it was the style I wanted to emulate. My original dress was slightly different though. It was strapless, not off the shoulder.”
Sidney continued to stare as he flipped through the pages. “Where were the pictures taken?” he asked.
“At the arboretum,” Evie replied, “I was planning on going down once I got my dress and take bridal portraits there too. I am not sure now.”
When they got to the photos of the actual wedding ceremony and reception, Sidney thoughtfully looked at each page. “I can see why you wanted a Christmas wedding now, “ he said, “Everything is beautiful. Will ours look similar?” Evie smiled and explained the details that would be similar such as her bouquet and aisle decor. Then she explained the items that would be different like the cake and reception lighting.
Sidney yawned as she talked. It was his first full day off of pain medicine. His body was feeling the effects. He readily agreed when she suggested bed. After they slid under the covers, Evie rested her head on his chest and closed her eyes. "It's too bad you can't find a dress like your mother's dress," Sidney yawned, "It would be perfect."
"Yeah," Evie agreed, "I have no idea where to look."
They drifted off to sleep. Eventually Evie rolled over and curled into a ball. She floated into a deep sleep and began to dream.
Evie stood in a bridal suite of an unknown wedding venue. She wore nothing but the embroidered panties she had purchased especially for the wedding. There was a loud knock on the door, which startled her. "Evie!" Adriana called out, "It's time. They are about to start the music." Her head swiveled around, saw her reflection in the mirror and began to panic. She brought up her arm to cover her bare breasts.
"Evie, " Taylor called, "Are you dressed yet? Sid’s waiting on you.” Evie turned to look to where her bridal gown was supposed to be hung and the space was empty. She raced around the suite to search for the dress, but found nothing.
Taylor called again, “Evie, come on!”
A familiar voice called out from behind her, "Give us ten minutes." Evie swirled around. Her mother, Vanessa, stood near the couch, holding Evie's satin bridal robe. She held out her arms and Evie raced into them. "Mi Chiquita," her mother soothed, "Where is your dress?"
"I couldn't find one. I don't have one to wear," Evie sobbed.
"Why didn't you want to wear my dress? I kept it for you," she kissed the top of Evie's head.
Evie's head snapped up, "What do you mean you kept it for me?"
Vanessa pointed to the box on the couch. Evie ran to look at it and ripped it open. Her mother's dress was neatly folded within it. Evie took the dress out and held it gingerly against her body. "Try it on," her mother suggested. Evie stepped into the dress and turned to her mother for assistance. She zipped up the dress and together they stated at Evie's reflection.
Vanessa smiled, "Chiquita, it's like it was made for you."
"Why didn't you tell me, Mami?" Evie whispered, "It has always been my dream dress."
"I planned to tell you. I was just going to tell when you got engaged. I thought I had time but….," her voice trailed off.
"But you left me," Evie looked her mother in the eye, "You left me all alone. I needed you and you left me."
"Oh Evie," Vanessa put her hand on Evie's face, "I should have stayed. I shouldn't have left you when you needed me the most."
"Why didn't you stay?" Evie cried, "Didn't you want to stay?"
"I didn't want to leave," Vanessa explained, "I was drowning in grief. I couldn't find my way to the surface. I didn't know a way out so I gave up. I couldn't see how much it was going to hurt you, baby."
They stared at each other for a moment. "I regret it," Vanessa said, "I regret that I am not going to be here for your wedding day. I regret not being here to meet Sidney and my grandbabies. I regret leaving you alone. I wish I could stay with you forever. I don't want to leave you alone."
"I am not alone anymore. Sidney is with me," Evie said, almost defiantly. "I have a family now and they love me," she said.
"I know," Vanessa said, "Go, go and join your new family. Let them love you and take care of you." Vanessa turned to go.
Mami," she cried, "You didn't tell me where the dress is."
"You were so close. It's there. Dig deeper" she said
"Mami," Evie cried out, "Mami, don't go! Don't leave me!"
Vanessa ran back and squeezed her daughter tight, "I will see you again Mi Chiquita. Daddy and I love you. I will see you again."
"Mami, don't leave," Evie cried over and over as her mother disappeared.
Besides her, Sidney stirred to the sounds of Evie's cries. He wrapped his body around hers and kissed her head. "Evie, I am here. You are okay. I am here."
Evie woke up with a start, "Beso?"
"Yes, Mon Etoile," he whispered, "I am here. Were you having a nightmare?"
"Yes, about the wedding dress," she answered, "Then my mom came and helped me. We found a dress together." Evie wasn't sure why she felt to keep the details about the dress a secret, but she did. "We talked and she said she was sorry that she left me alone. When it was time for her to go, she said she didn't want to leave me alone again."
Evie rolled over and stared at Sidney. "I told her that I am not alone anymore. I have you and I have a family again. I am not alone."
"And I will never leave you and not come back," Sidney stated firmly as he caressed her cheek, "I will never leave you alone."
"I love you, Beso" she sighed.
"I love you, too," he said, "let's go back to sleep."
"Okay," she kissed him softly before rolling over again. She relaxed as he wrapped her in his arms again. "It was nice though- to see her in my dream. It was almost like she was here."
"I bet it was," he squeezed her tight, “I bet it helped you so much.”
NOVEMBER 23RD- SIDNEY'S HOUSE-SEWICKLEY
Evie stood in the kitchen when she heard the doorbell. She shouted, "Come in!" as she watched Sidney make coffee for her.
Adriana walked into the house and meandered into the kitchen after petting Sam. "Please tell me that you are in a better mood," she laughed as she entered. Evie had moved closer to Sidney and stood behind him. She wrapped her arms around his waist and rested her cheek on his back. She sighed contentedly as he worked. "Ahhhh, it seems so," she grinned, "Behold the power of the Beso. We should call you the Evie Tamer."
Sidney shook his head and smiled, "Nah, I prefer Evie in her natural wild state." He felt Evie giggle into his back and kiss him gently. "I will leave you ladies to your dress hunt," he teased, "Keep the faith. I think your dream was a good sign."
Evie walked him to the door and waved as he pulled out of the garage. She turned around and said, "Come with me." Adriana followed as Evie marched to the attic.
"Evita," Adriana called from behind, "I thought we were hunting for a dress?"
"We are," she replied as they climbed the stairs to the attic. Evie opened the door and ran to the box that Sidney took the wedding scrapbook from. On top was her baby book, then her baby blanket on top of the dress that she wore home from the hospital. Underneath was a large padded envelope with every card that Evie had given her parents. Finally she reached the bottom and saw the sealed white cardboard box with Stardust Bridal embossed across the front. Evie let out a loud squeal as she lifted the box. "Holy shit, it's heavy," she said with the excitement barely contained.
"What's heavy?" Adriana asked.
"I think it's my mom's wedding dress," Evie looked up.
"What?" Adriana responded.
Evie set the box down and used the box cutter to carefully open the edges of the box as she explained the dream about her mother to Adriana.
"So that's the dress?" Adriana rushed to assist Evie. Together they got the lid off of the box. Evie's hand delicately touched the white beaded satin gown. Adriana looked at Evie as the tears ran down her face.
"Try it on, try it on, try it on," Adriana shouted. Evie stripped off her clothes and stepped in the dress. She turned to let Adriana zip the dress. It fit Evie like a glove. It dawned on her that she didn't have a mirror so Adriana took a picture. "You need a petticoat, but it looks amazing," she gushed.
"I can't believe it," Evie grazed her fingers over the beaded lace, "Mami married my dad in this dress on the same date. That has to be good luck, right."
"It's the best luck," Adriana said as she surprised herself with tears, "but you don't need luck, Evita. Gringo Boy and you are meant to be."
"Are you ever going to quit calling him that," Evie grinned.
"When he makes me an Aunt?", she laughed. "Let's go find you a petticoat and veil. Then you can officially mark it off of your list."
"Don't forget your dress," Evie interjected.
"Damn," Adriana asked, "You are really going to make me wear matching dresses with Taylor?"
Evie paused, "Fine- y'all decide on a color - deep red, black or metallic gold and pick whatever dress you want."
December 5th- Sidney and Evie's house- Sewickley
Evie woke up to the sensation of Sidney's lips and tongue on her neck while his hand roamed under her pajama top. In the weeks since his surgery, Evie had developed the habit of wearing pajamas to bed to remove "temptation" for Sidney as he recovered. Behind her, she felt as hips grinded into her. She looked back to gauge whether he was fully awake or asleep. Another habit that developed is Sidney, while fully asleep, initiated sex with this exact same behavior. Evie would politely, yet firmly, remove his hands from her body while whispering explanations of "It hasn't been three weeks, Beso." and "Keep your hands to yourself, please."
She was fully prepared to do the same when he whispered hoarsely, "It's three weeks today, Mon Etoile. It's been three weeks." Her body, full of pent-up sexual energy, began to respond. When his hand slid under the elastic waistband of her pajama pants, she moaned softly as it made its way between her legs. However, her mind raced to control the situation. Her hand went to his hand that began to explore her folds. She grabbed his hand and pulled it out of her pants. Evie then delicately extricated herself from his grasp and wiggled to the far side of the bed.
Sidney groaned and wiggled to follow her. She rolled over and placed her hand against his chest. Sidney was fully awake and aroused. "Evie, it's been three weeks exactly," he whined, "I need you. I need you so much. Look at how hard I am for you."
Evie resisted the urge to glance at his erection pressed tight against his boxers. "Listen," she said with authority, "I have been thinking about this."
"Less thinking and more fucking," Sidney said with a grin. When she did not return then grin, he asked, "Thinking what?"
"I want to wait," she replied. The look of disbelief conveyed all of his thoughts without saying a word. "Beso, we have already waited this long. I want to wait until our wedding night. I want that night to be special," she added.
Sidney blinked slowly, inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly. "Are you serious?" he asked. He studied her face and her sincerity was obvious. He pinched his nose, "Tell me why again."
"I want the first time as your wife to be special," she explained.
"I think that being the first time married would automatically make it special," he countered, "Besides, I am fairly sure that the first time is going to be pretty quick."
Evie smiled sweetly, "I know that it doesn't make a lot of sense given the amount of times that we have fucked and other things. It means a lot to me. It's almost like I will be a virgin again."
"A virgin?" he smirked. He rolled over and placed his forearm over his eyes. Evie watched him mentally process her words. "If that's what you want," he sighed. He perked back up. "Hey, do virgins give handjobs?", he asked. Evie got up from the bed and walked toward the bathroom. "I'm kidding, Evie," he called out. She turned and crossed her arms. He gave her a big grin. She smiled and shook her head.
Evie continued her walk to the bathroom and stripped her pajamas off as she walked. Sidney watched her from the bed. He stood up, walked to the bathroom door and leaned against the door frame. His gaze went from the top of her head and down the length of her nude body. He licked his lips as she stepped into the shower. He looked down as she poured body wash and lathered her smooth skin. His hand went into his boxers and started to stroke his throbbing cock. She called out to him, "I see you, Beso."
"I can't help it," he whined.
"I did it in May," she teased.
"Is this payback for the playoffs?" he laughed, "That's not fair!" She opened the door and stuck out her tongue. "Pretty please? You gotta help me out here," he pouted.
She smiled, closed the door and put on a show while he jerked his hand back and forth. When she heard the tell-tale grunts and groans of his orgasm, she called out, "You're welcome, Beso."
"You need to be ready Saturday night," he said breathlessly, "I am going to fuck you senseless."
"You better," she teased.
TWO HOURS LATER-ALLEGHENY COUNTY MARRIAGE BUREAU
Sidney grabbed Evie's hand as she came around the back of the car and led her up the stairs to the courthouse. Their completed marriage license waited for them to pick it up. Sidney sighed as they reached the back of the line. His status as Pittsburgh Penguins Captain opened doors and parted lines all across the city, country and world. Unfortunately, it was not effective at the marriage license bureau and he was forced to stand in line like the rest of the prospective grooms.
Sidney pulled his cap lower on his head. Evie pulled up her hoodie and grinned up at him. He reached for her hands and pulled her into his body. She whispered, “Maybe wearing the Penguins hat wasn’t the best idea?”
He kissed the top of her head, “What are you afraid of? I don’t care if people know that I am marrying you.”
Evie looked up, “Oh, I know that.”
He flashed a smile, “Then what are you afraid of?”
She returned his smile, “I am afraid that someone in this office or in this line will decide to leak that we have a marriage license before Saturday night. The wedding is supposed to be a surprise, right?”
They moved up with the line. Sidney glanced around, “You’re right. What if I hide in the bathroom and you text me when you get up there.” He kissed her quickly and escaped to the restroom.
Twenty minutes later, Evie texted Sidney. As she waited, the clerk pulled out the marriage license. “Ms. Montgomery, I just need you to confirm that information is correct,” the clerk whispered. Evie looked up and smiled, thankful for the quiet tone. She studied the license carefully. When she was sure that all the information was correct, she looked up and smiled. “Good,” the clerk smiled, “I will tell you that I am not sure that I can prevent this from getting leaked. We have some die hard Pens fans around here.”
Evie leaned forward, “I just need it to stay secret until Saturday.” She reached into her wallet and fished for cash. She came up with a crisp one hundred dollar bill and slid it across the counter. “Can you help us with that?”, she smiled.
“Your secret is safe with me,” the clerk smiled, “Tell Mr. Crosby congratulations. He landed himself a beauty. He’s a lucky man.”
“We are both lucky,” she smiled back. Evie was walking down the hall. Her eyes searched for Sidney. She shrieked as a hand grabbed her hand and pulled into an alcove by a courtroom. “Sidney!” she gasped and playfully swatted his chest, “You scared me.”
Sidney held a finger up to his mouth and shushed her. He whispered, “Did you get the license?” Evie looked around quickly, noted the presence of a young couple then shook her head affirmatively. “Good,” Sidney whispered, “My new friend, Harry, and his fiancée need a favor from us.”
Evie turned to look at Harry, who appeared to be in his early twenties, dressed in freshly pressed slack and buttoned down shirt. Next to him was a very pretty, yet very pregnant brunette, who wore a short white lace dress with an empire waist. The young man extended his hand, “Hi, I am Harry and this is my fiancée , Marissa.” He looked at his fiancée with a look of love that rivaled Sidney’s. “I had the good fortune to run into Sid in the men’s room. I mean what are the odds that I would run into my hockey hero here at the marriage license office.” Sidney moved closer to Evie and slid his arm around her waist as Harry continued to speak. “Anyway, Marissa and I want to get married today, but our witnesses flaked out on us. It’s really important that we get married today. Marissa is due any day now and we want to be married before the baby comes.” Evie looked at Sidney and then at Marissa and nodded her head in understandment. “So would you be willing to do it for us? It would mean the world to us if you could help us out.” he asked hopefully.
“Absolutely! I would be honored to witness your ceremony,” Evie said brightly as she leaned into Sidney’s body. Just then the courtroom doors opened and the previous couple walked out, followed by a gaggle of family and friends. Marissa let out a soft sigh. Evie took her hand and whispered, “You look gorgeous and radiant. Let’s go get you married to your man.”
They all walked in together and took their positions in front of the judge. Marissa cradled her bump and grinned up at Harry. The elderly judge cleared his throat, "Please join hands." The young couple joined hands.
Evie pulled out her phone and nudged Sidney to do the same. When he looked at her in question, she gestured that he needed to take video of the ceremony. It took a moment before he grinned and nodded in understatement. Both armed with cameras, they turned as the judge began the ceremony.
We’re here today to witness the union of Harry and Marissa in marriage. Today, you begin a new life together, founded in love, laughter, honesty, respect, and friendship. The promises you make to each other today should not be taken lightly. A marriage is more than a ceremony – it is a lasting and lifelong commitment.
Evie felt tears filling her eyes. She imagined her own wedding to Sidney. While the script would be different, the universal nature of marriage became apparent to her. She and Sidney would soon join the club so-to-speak.
Do you, Harry, take Marissa to be your spouse and to live together as partners, to treat them with love and respect, and to build a marriage that grows stronger and more loving as time passes?
Harry: Yes, I do.
Evie looked to Sidney. He turned his head to look at her while holding the camera straight. He mouthed the words "I do".
And do you, Marissa, take Harry to be your spouse and to live together as partners, to treat them with love and respect, and to build a marriage that grows stronger and more loving as time passes?
Marissa: Yes, I do.
Sidney stared as Evie wiped her tears and mouthed the word, "I do."
The brief ceremony continued with the exchange of simple gold bands. Evie continued with her self-imposed duty of the wedding photographer but felt as Sidney's hand searched for her hand. She gave it to him to hold.
By the virtue of the authority vested in me by the State of Pennsylvania, I now pronounce you married.
You may kiss! Congratulations!
Sidney and Evie cheered wildly as the young lovers sealed their marriage with a kiss. The foursome stood by the courtroom doors as the judge completed the paperwork. Harry shook Sidney's hand, "I can't tell how much this means to us. To have Sidney Fucking Crosby as our witness, man, we are blessed."
Evie giggled and gazed at Sidney. He smiled joyously, "It was an honor to be included. I hope you have a wonderful life together, especially with that little Penguin on the way."
Marissa joked, "Just wait until everyone hears about it. They will be so jealous." Sidney and Evie exchanged a look. Sidney looked at Marissa, "About that.". He pulled out his wallet and pulled out ten crisp one hundred dollar bills. "If you could not tell the part about us until Sunday morning, we would be really grateful," he said smoothly as he palmed the cash to Harry, "We are trying to pull off a surprise wedding Saturday night."
Harry and Marissa gasped at the cash, "Oh yes, we can keep a secret."
Evie interjected, "Where are you spending your wedding night?"
Marissa blushed, "He is taking me to the Cheesecake Factory and then home."
Evie smiled, "If you would allow me, I would love to arrange a night at the Fairmont for you. You can have the best suite available. Everything is on us." Harry and Marissa tried to object. "Please let us do it for you. This has been such a treat for us to witness," Evie argued as Sidney wrapped his arm around her waist. Her spontaneous generosity was just another reason he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Evie sent a few texts and exchanged numbers with Marissa to send pics.
They waited while Harry and Marissa exited. As soon as they left and they were alone in the courtroom, Sidney pulled Evie into an embrace. She laughed as he showered her with kisses. "Eighty hours," he whispered, "Eighty hours until I can call you my WIFE."
"I can't wait,Beso," she smiled.
"Me either," he kissed her passionately.
More spiderwoman au ideas!
First and foremost, Mirabel already has her own room. She got it when she was 7, but seeing as the room was still in the location of the nursery. Antonio still slept in there, but Mira didn’t mind, tonito was a cute and calm baby.
After Antonio didn’t get a gift, he got an additional room in her room. Both have their own side for privacy & such.
Casita hides both their spider suits once they come back from fighting crime. They know it would be rare for anybody except Dolores and Camilo to go into their room but just to be safe, Casita hides them.
Speaking of Casita’s walls, Bruno doesn’t live in them. Yes, he disappeared, but he disappeared a few neighborhoods away from Casita. He has a good paying job and a nice living space, and yes, he still has rat babies. But not as many, he has about 3 of them.
I feel Bruno had seen both spider bites before they even happened. So now Bruno just worries for them but still cheers them on from the sidelines.
Because Gwen doesn’t really have a place to stay, she often stays with Mirabel. Though VERY discreetly. Casita also made a small living area for her, similar to Bruno’s in the movie but with more feminine touches.
Isabela and Alma still be runnin their mouths about La Aranaposa and Arana nino. And as always, Camilo and Dolores be defendin the two heroes.
“Why is someone so young out there, that “Aranaposa” should be ashamed of herself for letting that child be so close to harm” - Isabela
“Si, he could get hurt at any moment” - Alma
*insert Mirabel and Antonio who just got back from fighting*
Tumblr media
“Abuela, haven’t you ever stopped and considered that maybe they were both born with those powers and maybe thought they should put them to good use? haven’t you ever stopped and considered that maybe this whole city would be in shambles without them?” Dolores said politely but sternly
“And Isa, it’s been 6 years since Aranaposa came about and a year since Arana nino came around, don’t you have ANYTHING else to talk about? Anything, idk, NEW in your life?” Camilo added with an irritated tone as he also looked at Alma in the corner of his eye.
“NO politics at the table please” Julieta kindly chimed in as she harshly softly slammed her fist against the table. Julieta has grown tired of these conversations every other breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
I decided to change the family dynamics, everybody is fine with each other. Julieta and Pepa take time off when they need to and so do the gifted grandchildren. Alma is trying her best to be a good abuela. Before Bruno left he wrote a note addressing the families issues, how alma is the cause of most of them, and how they need to be fixed. So, for the past decade the family has been relaxing and only put their powers to use for emergencies or for fun.
So Isabela and Alma talking about the spider heroes stems from a place of concern and worry, the family knows that, but it’s still annoying.
I have a feeling Antonio is a very independent kid because of his duties. I mean yes, he still loves his parents and goes to them for advice, but he does a lot of things on his own. For example, he used to let Mira or his parents read him bedtime stories. But he’s so tired from helping with battles that he can barely stay awake for them. So he either grabs a book and reads it himself or just goes to sleep.
 Hobie had said at some point that the one of the things that is known about spiderman is their independence. So Antonio held onto that with a tight grip.
All the family hears from the boy now is “no thanks, I got it” “Nope, I got it” “It’s alright, I can do it”
If he wants something as simple as pb & j or just a sandwich he’ll make it himself, and seeing as he has an easy bake oven, he mostly makes lunch or food by himself. He’s actually a pretty good cook. I saw in your drawing that Antonio gave Miguel some Arepas, so let’s just say Antonio made those for him.
When Miguel says to lego spiderman “your one of our best” I like to think that the other best he’s talking about is Jess, Mirabel, and Antonio. Like seriously, Jess can beat an enemy on a motorcycle WHILE PREGNANT. Mirabel can take out mysterio with one punch and Antonio can take out the hobgoblin with one kick. Which he has.
Oh yeah, they call Jess, Tia. Why wouldn’t they? She's Tia material.
Mirabel and Antonio had caught about 3 anomalies together, and 3 anomalies on their own.
“And there’s mysterio-” Lyla
“Caught that weirdo” - Mirabel
“Mz-stereo” Lyla
“I helped catch that one!” - Antonio
“Even though I told you not to” - Mirabel
“Was I supposed to let her wreck our town? I don’t think so” Antonio
Oh yeah, even though not everybody likes the two spider kids, people do like to do some stuff where they know they are appreciated. Such as painting the two on some walls, leaving gifts, etc.
Gwen taught Mira how to play the drums and Hobie taught her how to play the electric guitar. And Antonio likes to help Pavitr feed the street dogs in his universe
Because the internet is a bit much Gwen started out small and gifted Dolores, Camilo, Mirabel, and Antonio Ipods. The spider teens love giving them song recommendations.
Mirabel’s favorite song is self love by Coi leroy, recommended by Gwen
Antonio’s favorite song is hummingbird by Metro Boomin and James Blake, recommended by Miles
Camilo’s favorite song is silk & cologne by ei8ght and offset, also recommended by Miles.
Dolore’s favorite song is link up by Don Toliver, it reminds her of hanging out with Mariano, recommended by Margo. When listening she just has to keep the music really low.
I feel like Dolores, Mirabel, Camilo, and Antonio’s favorite music genres are R & B, modern pop, y2k pop, and 90’s rap with some occasional rock songs recommended by hobie. When it comes to listening to rock Dolores has to keep her noise canceling headphones on, then listen to it.
Like every spiderman in school, the two are bound to miss some classes but thankfully they have good excuses. Just to let you know Mira missed about 6 classes and Antonio has missed about 4.
Miles should have never given Mirabel, and by extension Camilo spray paint. He introduced them to the idea of graffiti; they were amazed by it. The two only use it for good things such as giving an old or new shop a touch up. The designs are always spectacular and match the theme of the shop so no one can really get mad.
Antonio loves playing with mayday, he finds her adorable. He also likes to play with spider cat and spider rex.
STOP THE SPIDER DUO HATE IN ENCANTO 2k23⁉️⁉️⁉️
No but seriously. Can’t keep letting this slide. Not that they others are letting it slide 😭 mfs went OFF, really came for them huh. And they just let it happen because they both know that the other two are right 💀
Also let Camilo have access to spray paint <333 don't withhold his supply, let him do graffiti❗ Also iPods. Omg i think my cousin had one and she gave it to me when i was like 8 or 9 😭 but their taste in music is peak, especially wit that R&B and Y2K 🦅🦅🦅
W to Antonio for being an independent kid, L for Alma and Isabela for obvious reasons
I feel you on the burnout. I think I'm there too.
Crack idea: The rats actually go to confession.
The slightly less crack idea: The family trying to organize all of the animal friends that live in Casita for the Feast of Saint Francis (I've been doing research!)
Rat confession rat confession rat confession!
*
“This is Nodgraedxil-”
Bruno blinked and shook his head. “No, no, that’s Jorge Junior, because of that time he got a thimble stuck on his head when he was a baby.”
“Tío.” The tone in Antonio’s voice was far too close to the disappointed-and-exasperated one Félix used sometimes. “That’s not his real name. And he says you promised not to tell anyone about that again, was that a lie?”
“...technically, I guess?” Bruno looked helplessly at José, who shrugged.
“I’ll put it on your tab,” the priest muttered, then leaned down to get a closer look at the rat in Antonio’s hands. To his credit he kept his expression neutral; Bruno knew he was not convinced of the little creatures’ charms, which made him agreeing to do this an act of professional courtesy. “And what does, uh, Nadgerd-”
“Nodgraedxil.”
“-have to confess?”
After ruling out the confessional itself they’d opted to do this in the little chapel off the main altar, as it offered both privacy and an appropriate level of formality for the proceedings. Bruno perched on the edge of a pew, José - dressed in his frock and collar - sat on a chair facing him, and between them stood Antonio, who had taken the rat from his uncle and presented him to the priest for absolution.
“He steals berries from Señor Queso because he’s jealous. He wants to play Ratón Pérez in a concert some time. So…he confesses to theft. And envy.”
“I see,” José said gravely. His gaze shifted from the rodent to Bruno and managed to convey exactly how delighted he was by this ridiculous situation, and Bruno felt his heart melt a little. Maybe it wasn’t just professional courtesy. “And is he sorry for what he has done?”
Antonio waggled a finger at Nodgraedxil, who sat up on his haunches and grasped it in his front paws, then nuzzled his fuzzy face against it. The boy hummed. “He says yes, but that he still wants a chance to be Ratón Pérez.”
This particular rat, Bruno knew, had proven difficult to train and simply refused to stay in one spot not matter how much positive reinforcement he received. Still, it was worth another try, so he shrugged and nodded.
“Alright. Next time, Jorg- Nodgraedxil will have a turn. But only if he stops stealing berries.”
“Yes, he has to…show penitence,” José agreed while failing to keep a straight face. He sat back and cleared his throat. “Nodgraedxil, I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
The humans made the sign of the cross. The rat squeaked and scratched behind his ear with a back foot.
“Can he have a bread snack now?” Antonio asked in a stage whisper.
José thought about this, then folded his hands. “Not right now, but when your tío brings him up to the altar next Mass, he will.”
Bruno’s jaw dropped and he  looked from his nephew to his rat to his…whatever they were, about to protest, but Antotio was beaming at him happily, and José gave him a wink, and he settled back in the pew, sighing.
“Fine. But I’ve got like four more rats in this ruana so you’d better make sure you’ve got enough rodent-sized sacraments to go around.”
“And grape juice!” Antonio enthused. “He says he wants the grape juice too.”
Bruno snorted. “Maybe you can serve it to them in a thimble.”
Nodgraedxil, outraged, leaped over and gave Bruno a reproachful nip on the hand. This caused some swearing, which resulted in a whole new round of confessions.
For @time-for-a-grandkid-round-up, based on the prompt of “everyones reaction to baby mirabel.”
Three combined parts - aftermath of Mirabel’s birth which sets the scene; three months later, the warm family being guardians; another three months later, mainly Agustín.
Last part is partially an introduction to my OCs, Agustín’s parents, Sancho and Juana. Based heavily on my headcanons - check with those posts.
~~~~~~
Waiting For a Miracle
“What is it? What’s happened?” Julieta inquired, desperately.
“Is our son okay?” Agustín added.
There’s been no cry from the baby; Bruno has left the room, presumably to tell the others; Pepa and Félix keep shooting each other weird looks; and nobody is saying anything. Naturally, the parents are worried.
“Félix, is the baby healthy?”
“Is the baby dead?”
“It can’t be… this was nothing like Luisa’s birth… we survived that… surely not… not our son?”
“The baby is breathing and the heart beat is steady,” Félix says, not sparing either of the couple a glance. “I can’t get a cry though.”
She knew she should’ve just done this herself, but after Luisa’s birth she didn’t want to take her chances. Just as Julieta starts sitting up and is about to demand Félix hand over the baby, a small, mewling cry echoes from the newborn, proving that indeed it is healthy and alive. With a dreamy smile, Julieta relaxes.
“Someone get Mama.” She gasped, her voice a little chocked up with excitement and hoarse from crying out herself. “Oh! And the girls, get them too - they must meet their brother.”
“You’ve done it, Juli. He is to be Pedro Eduardo Rojas Madrigal.”
Pepa coughed. “I, uh, don’t think so.”
“What are you talking about, hermana?”
“It isn’t… You see… She’s a girl,” Pepa said. “A healthy, beautiful, little girl.” She repeated as if to reconcile everyone to the disappointment.
All this for nothing.
For a moment, Agustín thought Julieta had fainted, she was as white as the sheets. He lowered her back against the pillows and stroked the hair back from her sweaty face.
“A girl.”
“A healthy baby is the main thing,” Félix pointed out.
Bruno suddenly appeared in the room, smiling.
“Bruno? Why didn’t you tell us?” Julieta demanded, all but ready to throw a cushion at her brother.
“I didn’t know, but I’ve got something to help…”
“Bruno, what are you doing?” Felix asked.
However, Bruno continued mumbling to himself as he stopped at the end of the bed, tossing salt over his shoulder at the baby and Pepa, who thundered with anger.
“What the hell was that for?” She snapped.
“To cancel bad luck. Obviously.”
Pepa looked utterly bewildered. “She’s a baby! She’s barely ten minutes old! She isn’t bad luck! Stop throwing salt— Julieta, surely, you don’t agree with this?”
“It’s just salt, Pepa.”
“So you think your baby is bad luck?!”
“I never said that!”
“You didn’t have to!”
“Oye, oye, oye, cálmate,” Félix said, quickly, coming between Pepa and Bruno (and Julieta). “You’ll upset the baby.”
Bruno did stop with the salt, but was still going through a long list of rituals; he was spinning now.
Pepa took the opportunity to clean the infant and wrapped it in the expensive cloths Alma had bought in advance from overseas. While spinning, Bruno knocked into a vase, causing it to shatter and startle the baby. Agustín and Julieta physically turned away when the child made a cry.
“A girl,” Agustín said. “What good is this girl to us?”
Nobody can answer him.
They name her Mirabel Teresa Rojas Madrigal.
Julieta can’t even enjoy the fact that she finally has her baby girl, her Mirabel.
The grandparents are far from pleased. Sancho said the same as Agustín when he was told, while Juana cursed the baby as disappointment and an evil thing for hurting her son. Alma’s opinion had been as equally obvious, but less vocal - though she did swear under her breath and didn’t even look at the baby.
Everyone had been hoping for a boy. But they had a girl.
Félix and Pepa had spent the time gushing over the baby. Praising her little body, her doe eyes, the perfect fingers, any time she dared to make a sound.
Pepa noted she was very observant, as she watched the clouds and rainbows disappear and reappear overhead. Félix had been concerned that her tiny body wasn’t keeping her warm enough and rushed for Dolores’ old yellow blankets.
After completing all of his rituals to ward off bad luck, Bruno didn’t come near again. Opting to instead keep watch of the other kids and baby Camilo.
The disappointed couple don’t admire the baby.
“I thought you’d be hungry,” Agustín announces when he renters several hours later, holding a glass of water and a plate of half-burnt arepas.
Julieta fell into his arms and buried her face into his shoulder. “Oh, Agi!”
“What is it?”
“Everyone is so angry and upset, and no one has looked at the baby except Pepa and Félix. Now they’ve all gone back to showering Camilo with attention. My sister must love my humiliation and disgrace! Oh God, if only she had been a boy!”
He patted her back. “Hush, mi corazon. You’ll wake her.”
“Everyone talks about how blessed we Madrigals are. But this is anything but a blessing. Agustín, what are we to do?”
“Rest. Everything will be much better once you have eaten and slept.” Agustín said, offering the plate. “Do you want me to bring the girls in? They’ve been asking to see you.”
Julieta doubts it’ll make a difference for her, but she nods nevertheless. As Agustin gets up, she manages a few bites and downs the whole glass. The baby wakes at one point and yelps a bit, Julieta peers over the crib and the baby quiets down. Good. She doesn’t really want to hold it.
Agustín returns a minute later with Alma following, little Luisa holding her hand and Isabela holding the other. The two girls trample each other to the cradle.
The reactions between them are wildly different. Isabela seems to have the same disgust that she had when seeing Luisa for the first time, the difference is that nobody is telling her off for it; while Luisa looks like it’s her birthday and she finally got the horse she wanted.
“My dolls are bigger,” Isabela says, looking down her nose. “My roses are bigger and perfecter.”
“More perfect.” Alma corrects with a small smile. The first time she’s smiled today.
It must be obvious to the girls that their parents look awfully tired and sad. For Isabela doesn’t linger and gives them both comforting hugs and kisses and flowers. Luisa, clearly wants to comfort them too, however, she goes for a different strategy.
As she loudly declares, “She’s better than any boy!”
The mood dampens even more.
“What an awful thing to say!”
“Don’t say such nonsense, Luisa.”
“Take her to the nursery, Agustín,” Alma snaps. “She will stay there until she learns her lesson and apologises.”
On any other day for any other thing, Agustín would have argued against Alma and defended his girls. But not now. He picks up Luisa and puts her straight to bed, without a word. She is beyond confused and surprised, as she was grounded for two weeks.
~~~~~~
It’s been three months since.
Camilo is the complete centre of attention and is spoiled rotten by everyone. All the gifts and praise that would’ve been for the new baby boy go to him. He is regarded as the second Pedro. There had been celebration at his birth, for being the first grandson, but this is now getting ridiculous. At least in the eyes of his parents.
And his sister.
Dolores doesn’t understand at all.
“Papí?”
“Yes, Lolita?” Her father says, sparing her a quick glance from the laundry he’s currently doing.
“Why does everyone hate the new baby? Like, what did she do? She’s not even cried yet.” Then, with wide and somehow innocent eyes, she asks, “Is she dead?”
Dolores’ attention is rapt on her father’s features. He blinks a few times, keeping his gaze fixed on the clothes. Did she say something bad?
“I heard people saying that stuff,” she explains. “The town and the family—”
Her father shakes his head. “Listen, mija,” he begins. “There is no reason for anyone to hate a baby, alright? People are just… shocked. You remember that everyone thought it was a boy? And, well, Mirabel was a bit of a surprise.”
That's a very different take to what she’s heard.
“But people say we should get rid of her and she’s bad and—”
“Dolores,” Félix says. He turns around to face her. “She’s a baby. She hasn’t done anything wrong. She has a place in this family as much as you or I or anyone else. If you have any other questions, I want you to ask me or Mama, okay?”
She stares at the folded piles of clothes. This is confusing. So many people say different things to her father - they can’t all be wrong? Abuela doesn’t let any of them see the baby, it has barely left Tía’s room. There has to be a reason for it. Her father is angry though, and he never normally is.
“Why are people saying lies? Lying is bad.”
“It’s not lying, mija, it’s more complicated than that. This is what they believe.”
“So they aren’t lying. So it’s true.”
“No, it’s…” Félix sighs. “I don't want you to get confused about this. Let’s go see your Mama.”
Dolores just nods. Still unsure.
They find her mother out on Casita’s patio, pacing back and forth with her back to them. It’s strange because she’s giggling and there’s a bright rainbow over her head. While Tío Bruno is playing in the grass with her cousins, Isabela and Luisa. It sounds like they are re-enacting one of their bedtime stories. One with a fight or battle because they are all roughhousing.
“Pepa? You busy, mi vida?”
Pepa turned so quickly, almost giddily. It made Dolores dizzy. In her mother’s arms was a tiny bundle, that Dolores assumed was Camilo, but the blankets weren’t the fancy gold, velvety ones that swaddled her brother. She froze beside her father, clutching his leg.
“I did it! I made her laugh, Félix!” Her mother beamed. In demonstration, she blew cool air against the baby’s cheek, producing a tiny noise and smile.
“That doesn’t sound like a laugh.” Dolores pointed out. “It’s quiet. Babies aren’t quiet.”
Pepa ruffled her hair. “You were a quiet baby, Lola, until you started talking. Your hermanito likes to use his voice as frequently and as loudly as possible. But your primita… you just like listening to us talk, don’t you, Mirabel?”
There’s no answer.
Dolores wonders if Mirabel can actually hear them. As an expert listener, Dolores can point out that the baby is definitely listening. Her eyes follow whoever is talking and her head turning ever so slightly. But she’s just… silent.
“Why is she quiet?”
“Some babies just are,” Félix shrugged, gently tickling the baby. She smiles a little, but only a little gasp leaves her mouth. “I think it’s a good thing. Two loud babies would have been difficult for you. Maybe your prima is trying to help.”
Dolores was going to comment on how that would be impossible as babies don’t know anything, however, she was stopped by Mirabel’s eyes falling on her.
“Do you want to hold her, Dolores?” Pepa questioned, angling her head to a bench.
The girl nodded, only to please her parents, and clambered onto it. Félix readjusted her position a little. Her mother sits down beside her and gently places the baby in her arms.
“Support her head, Lolita,” her father reminds.
She’s no bigger than one of Isabela’s dolls. She’s softer though and carries her own temperature. She isn’t as heavy as Camilo - then again, he’s older than her. The pair are very different. Mirabel is tiny and smells like soap and has the ability to remain perfectly still. She doesn’t have any hair though. Just a few brown strands.
Amber eyes watch her carefully. Any time Dolores moves her head at a noise, one that nobody but her can hear, the little orbs follow her almost instantly.
Mariano, her and Isabela’s friend from school, doesn’t have any baby siblings or cousins. He wants one though. Dolores has never understood why. She misses the quiet days before Camilo was born. But if Mariano means a baby like Mirabel, she can see why.
“She’s like me.” Dolores smiled. Then frowned. “I don’t get it. Why don’t Tía Julieta and Tío Agustín and Tio Bruno hold the baby? It’s easy.”
Félix sighed. “Tía Julieta and Tío Agustín… aren’t feeling very well, mija. They think some time away from the baby will help. And Tío Bruno isn’t a fan of babies. He’ll be more interested when Camilo and Mirabel start walking and talking.”
“Oh. Why don’t people like Mirabel? She’s a good baby.”
“She is. But she’s not a boy. Everyone wanted her to be a boy and she isn’t, so they don’t like her.” Pepa answered simply. Sitting back a little to avoid any raindrops falling on the children.
“That’s not fair, Mama. Girls can do anything boys can.”
“I know, mi corazon. I know.” Félix sighs.
“Try telling your Abuela that,” Pepa mumbled under her breath.
The conversation stops as little Luisa comes barrelling their way, crashing directly into Pepa’s knees, crying that it is her turn to see the baby.
Thank God someone (on Julieta’s side) cares that much about Mirabel. Even if it is four-year-old Luisa.
~~~~~~
“You are amazing, Isabelita! Seven out of ten!” Abuelo Sancho declares, as he carefully examines the little spelling test.
Visits to Agustín’s parents have been more frequent over the last few weeks, against the wishes of Alma. But Agustín believes it’s important for the girls to spend time with their other grandparents. And honestly, he is still struggling and needs the support of his parents himself - especially now that Julieta is back to work.
Isabela likes to proudly showcase her accomplishments - Alma has encouraged that behaviour from her. And Luisa enjoys playing with the dog, a fino hound called Mario. They don’t have any pets in Casita - again, at Alma’s insistence, with the exception of her precious Bruno’s rats.
“I was better than Mariano this week. He only got six.” Isabela added.
“Well, let’s see if you can get ten out of ten next, hm?” Abuela Juana asks from where she’s sat drinking tea with her son.
“I can get ten out of ten!” Luisa says. “I can spell Isabela now. I-Z-A-B-E-L-L-A.”
“There’s no ‘Z’, it’s ‘S’.” Isabela corrects.
“And only one ‘L’.” Finishes Sancho. “But it was a good attempt, Luisa.”
Luisa huffs. “Isabela is a silly name.”
“Is not! Abuela says there’s been loads of queens called Isabela. Queens are not silly.”
“Is so!”
“Is not!”
“¡Oye, oye, oye, niñas!” Sancho says, picking up Luisa to separate the pair. “How about we go on a little walk to calm down? Maybe we’ll finally find that unicorn.”
The two instantly stop bickering and beam at each other. Sancho has been telling them for years that there’s a unicorn hiding somewhere in Encanto and that one day the three of them will find it.
It’s always been an effective distraction.
Sancho guides Isabela towards the door, quickly picking up his hat and promising Juana that they will try to be back in time for dinner this time.
Agustín tries to smile as he watches his girls go.
He’s getting better, little by little, but he’s not quite there yet. He just wants things to go back to normal.
“I don’t understand why you won’t just get rid of it,” his mother sighs as the door closes.
He blinks.
“Get rid of what?”
“The baby,” she answers, as though it were the most obvious thing in the world. “It has made you and Julieta so depressed and unlike yourselves. Your girls deserve better. And that thing has ruined everything.”
They both turn to the crib, where as usual the little thing is awake and entertaining herself by trying to grab at her yellow blanket.
She’s what? Six months now?
Mario settles himself under the crib. He looks bored without Luisa. He would have been taken on the walk too, but he currently has an injured leg.
“None of you have any attachment to her. You could easily put her up for adoption, over the mountains or here.” Juana is still talking. “In fact, Claudia Guzmán wants another baby, doesn’t she?”
“She does, but I don’t see—”
“Agustín. Think of how much it would benefit your family to have that thing out of the picture. Julieta would be pleased. Alma might even approve of you for doing something great. You can’t forsake poor Isabela and Luisa more than you already have. They need their father. You need to think about your daughters.”
He sighs. “Could you excuse me, mother?”
The woman nods.
Agustín doesn’t really know why he keeps hiding in the bathroom.
Before it was to get away from Alma and the baby. Now it’s just a habit. He doesn’t cry anymore. Just stands and tries to think.
He can’t handle his mother all but telling him he’s being selfish. It’s the one thing he hasn’t done throughout all of this. Every decision has been made to benefit Julieta, Isabela and Luisa. Not him.
Alma thinks it’s bad enough Julieta torments herself with that mistake, never mind him.
Said mistake is still the same. Still quiet. Still tiny. Still disregarded by everyone.
But she’s growing and learning. According to baby books, she is now recognising faces. And some part of her has worked out how little time she gets with any actual guardian. She must know Luisa, who all but swings her head into the crib every hour.
She should be getting ready to crawl, but doesn’t show any interest in moving. Most of what would have been her toys went to Camilo.
Pepa says she likes ribbons, tying any she finds to the side of the crib. Luisa is always pulling out the shiny ribbons from her hair and dangling above the baby. Luisa will then be told off for doing so by Abuela.
Félix says she doesn’t like peak-a-boo. Similar to Dolores in the fact they’ve already worked out that you’re hiding behind your hand or a piece of furniture. He’s trying to find something to entertain her - as she isn’t interested in moving, dancing (which was Dolores’ alternate) doesn’t really work.
Camilo and Mirabel are old enough to be aware of each other, though they still can’t play together. Pepa tried that. Camilo is wild, already moving (thankfully, not yet speaking), he likes grabbing at things. Mirabel doesn’t know how to react to him. It is weird, putting Isabela and Dolores together, allowed them to learn skills off each other.
Cutting through the sound of his thoughts and running water, as he pretends to wash his hands, is Mario barking and growling.
The baby cries from the other room.
Every time Mirabel makes a noise, which is almost never, it throws Agustín for a loop and he has to remember the fact that yes, this baby does have a voice.
He turns off the tap in time to hear his mother exclaim and get up out of her chair.
“Shush, niño. Mario, enough! Lie down!”
The dog snarls, but eventually does as he’s told. Or at least that what Agustín assumes as the barking dies down.
“¡Silencio, maldición!”
The baby continues to wail.
Agustín stumbles out of the bathroom and back into the main room. Mario is indeed back in his bed in a corner, chewing on yellow fabric. His mother is standing over the crib, hitting the wooden frame. And the baby is crying, her little hand poking out of the bars, red.
The dog got ahold of the blanket and trying to tug it from Mirabel, she was bitten or at the very least caught by his teeth.
“Mother…?”
“The baby poked Mario in the eye. I should have known better than to let him get so close.”
“It was probably an accident—”
“That is no accident, Agustín! I’ve been telling you for months to get rid of her. You should have listened to me. She is despicable! ¡Un error en el plan de Dios!”
The baby cries, her little hand frozen as red drops on the floor. Helpless.
That’s all she is. She was helpless against a dog. She was helpless against all the neglect she’s received. She was helpless to the fact she wasn’t the boy everyone wanted.
“Don’t you dare.” He warned.
He crossed the room quickly, gently pushing the arm back through the bars. And, to the utter horror and shock of his mother, picked the baby up, letting her little head rest on his shoulder. One hand holding her body and the other cupping her head.
It’s not smooth, he’s too concerned to not hold her like she’s a glass bird. He hates the realisation that this is probably the first time Mirabel has actually been held by one of her parents - she’s so rigid and cold against him. Her little legs don’t even reach his waist. Isabela and Luisa were definitely not this small, he has the marks from them squirming and kicking him. He briefly wonders if she’s healthy.
“What are you doing?” Juana questions. His mother sighs a little, she looks tired. “Put the thing down, Agustín. I will get some more tea and we can talk this through.”
“I will not.” He says.
“Of course, you will. What are you saying? This isn’t good for you. She has done nothing but torment everyone in our family since birth. She is a mistake.”
He glares, taking a step back. “She is my daughter.”
Whatever his mother says next, he doesn’t hear. He doesn’t want to hear it. He turns and leaves.
Part of him tells him to go back and talk with his mother, or at least gather up their belongings and wait for his father to return with Isabela and Luisa. But, his parents know where Casita is.
That part of him is small though because, right now, he’s thinking of his daughter.
Agustín slows down near a forested area with a cliff face. He leans back against a tree and sits Mirabel down in his lap.
She’s stopped crying, but she’s still sniffling. She’s shivering too, that’s from the cold. Maybe he should’ve stayed just to grab extra layers. Then again, her blanket is probably long gone now.
He unbuttons his vest a little and sets her inside it. Keeping her closer to his chest will make her warmer, right? It’s only until they get back home.
Her hand has stopped bleeding. He can see that it’s a nasty scratch that goes across all four fingers. He’ll let Julieta deal with that. He doesn’t have anything on him that will help.
So he starts walking again.
“I’m sorry,” he says, with no response.
Even if she doesn’t understand him, he wants to apologise. She deserves an apology.
“Mirabel? Can you hear me?” He asks.
Again, there’s nothing. But he takes the little yawn as confirmation that she’s currently listening, though not for much longer.
“Nothing is going to hurt you. It’ll be okay. I’ve got you, Miraboo.”

Writer ask! 🙌🏻💌
🤲what do YOU get out of writing?
I like characters, I find it really satisfying to tell a story that comes together well at the end, and I like writing jokes to make myself laugh. I think that's the sum of it!
💌share something with us about an up-and-coming work (WIP) that has you excited!
Julieta would never be frightened of Bruno. That anyone was frightened of Bruno seemed laughable to her. But her mother was much easier to placate when Bruno wasn't around, especially during the pregnancy. Julieta might not have been frightened of Bruno, but she was certainly frightened of rocking the boat any more than it needed to rock in a house of two heavily pregnant women and the rapidly-declining Bruno. When Julieta had time to think about it, it stung. Your brother is complicated, said Mamá. Worry about your baby now. He's my son. I can look after him. As though Alma would ever know the depths of her brother's pain the way Julieta did. As though Alma would do anything but worsen the problem. Alma was already worried about what influence Bruno might have on the babies – what if he said the wrong thing? Showed them things that traumatised them? What if they saw him like this? – but Julieta knew perfectly well that Bruno would chop off his arm before he caused preventable harm to a child. Especially her child. Three months into the pregnancy Julieta had been awoken from sleep by a pounding on her bedroom door, Agustín falling out of bed as she groggily registered the words. Bruno was banging on the door, jubilant, his voice raised to an excited yell that Julieta had not heard him reach since childhood. "Julieta! Juli! It's a girl!" he'd hollered, so radiantly happy he had forgotten entirely how late at night it was. "A sobrina!"

Papá Agustín AU
Here’s another AU I have in my mind for a while! :)
From the moment they met, it was clear that Alma didn’t approve of Agustín as a son-in-law and husband for her daughter.
That man only caused trouble, as well as accidents.
But, Julieta loved him, so Alma let them get married.
It wasn’t long before children came along, and Isabela and Dolores were born.
Almost everyone was happy, but Alma didn’t want her children to slack off from their town duties. They had to keep their miracle.
Then, she had an idea. She didn’t like Agustín going out of the house with them. He would only embarrass them and the family in general. He could look after the children while everyone else worked! That way, they earned the miracle without that disaster around and embarrassing them!
While Pepa and Félix immediately agreed, Bruno, Julieta and Gus himself were skeptical of it, but the latter two eventually agreed.
So, that became Agustín’s new life. He’d wake up, eat breakfast with the family, and look after Isa and Dolores all day. And he loved every second of it, despite not being able to spend time with the others…
Years passed, and Isa and Dolores slowly grew up. There even arrived a new baby, Luisa!
Life was pretty okay. Alma and her triplets worked while Agustín looked after the kids all by himself, every single day… Pepa, Félix and Julieta unfortunately didn’t have much time for their children, leaving Agustín to care for them…
But…that routine eventually backfired hard, as Isa and Dolores said their first words…
Isa’s first word was Papi, obviously directed to Gus. He expected this, she was his daughter after all. But Dolores’ soon followed suit, also saying Papi, but not towards Félix…
Agustín froze. He didn’t plan this…
“Papi!” Isa and Dolores called out as the latter hugged his leg, as Gus held a sleeping Luisa in his arms.
Gus was able to keep the girls quiet about them calling him Papi, but it was pretty clear that both kids, as well as Luisa, saw him as their only parent…
But one dinner, Dolores slipped up, and all hell broke loose…
“How could you?!” Pepa yelled, storming everywhere, obviously furious. “You wanted to replace us?! We are Dolores’ parents! Not you!”
“We told you to look after her, not raise her!” Alma yelled at her son-in-law. “And Isabela has a mother too!”
Isa and Dolores were hiding behind Agustín, their Papá, afraid that those meanies would take them away from him, and Luisa was crying in Julieta’s arms, reaching for the only adult who held her, which was once again Agustín…
It only angered Alma and Pepa even more. Julieta was pretty heartbroken too…
All while Agustín froze. He wanted to argue back, but he couldn’t speak thanks to all the yelling…
And Isa, Dolores and Luisa were upset too. They just wanted to go to their Papi, but now Abuela and these strange adults were angry at him…
