I recently re-watched some of the MP100 anime and it's really got me thinking about how horrifying it must have been for Reigen all those times where he could only sit there and wait to hear if Mob was alright. As the audience, we follow Mob around the story, so he's not often absent to the viewers like he is to those who love him.
I've been thinking about season 1—Mob not showing up to work for the first time ever, not answering his phone, and his GPS pinging at a random spot in the middle of the forest outside the city. How must that taxi ride have felt for Reigen, just staring at the red dot on his phone screen, having no idea what he'd find? Sure, he's a powerful psychic, but he's also 14. He's just a boy.
Or during Mogami arc, when Reigen had to sit there next to Mob's body, empty and cold on the tile floor and completely devoid of life or a soul, with no idea when or if he'd return. After Dimple, who knows very well how possession works, had warned him again and again that Mob was dead and never coming home. The fact that when Mob first wakes up back in his body, Reigen was already bent over him, sweating, eyes wide, telling him, “I actually thought you might’ve died.” That was around 45 minutes or an hour for Reigen.
It took 4-5 hours for Reigen, Ritsu, Teru, and Dimple to just lay eyes on Shigeo after the explosion at the end of season 2. 4-5 hours of searching through the rubble after they all watched a massive explosion consume him first-hand. He was buried completely within the broccoli and they only found him once they got a shovel and started digging. How must it have felt, searching for that long and still not knowing if they were going to find him alive? Or those few moments after finding his face buried in the ground, calling out for him again and again without any response or signs of life? Reigen played it off as a joke—“I thought you were a goner back there Mob. Pretty scary!”—but you can hear the fear in their voices when they’re calling for Mob to wake up, and it’s not really a joke.
Or even before that, when Reigen was sprinting his way up hundreds of stairs, gun heavy in his hands, after Dimple told him that Toichiro was intent on mercilessly killing Mob. Walking in and finding him crumpled and broken, held up by his hair. One very quiet, very weak “Ma…ster…” and then he’s unmoving on the ground. Desperately, “Hey…! You still alive, Mob?”
“I’m a pathetic excuse for a master.” Always left waiting until it’s too late. Until Confession Arc, when he finally runs into the fray to bring Mob home himself, just in time.

This prompt is vague haha but I just love your version of ???% Shigeo and would love to see more of him! Can be whomp, can be intense, can even just be…anything yeah haha. I just really like it (also loved your fic that you wrote with ???%!!)
Oh god. Teru is going to die.
He hadn’t expected an explosion, hadn’t put up a barrier. The heat and pain caught him off guard, so he hadn’t even been able to stop himself from being tossed away, or been able to cushion his fall. How embarrassing. How… stupid.
He hopes Kageyama-kun doesn’t see-
Wait. Kageyama-kun. Did he get caught in the explosion too? He’s- he’s better than Teru though, so he probably was able to put up a barrier in time… but he’s not better. No one is better than anyone else. Hasn’t Teru learned anything? But- but Kageyama-kun is stronger at least. That’s- that’s just objectively true.
Teru tries to push himself off the ground, to sit up. His arm gives out and he falls back with a choked cry. What hurts more? His arm? His chest? His leg?
A blast of power shakes the area.
Oh. Teru relaxes some. Whatever happens to him, Kageyama-kun is okay at least.
Teru really is for sure going to die though. Even if his current injuries aren’t enough to do him in, which they probably are with the way every breath is an increasingly painful struggle… Kageyama-kun’s footsteps are too loud.
Kageyama-kun doesn’t hurt people. But that doesn’t matter when he’s like this, does it? He hopes- he hopes Kageyama-kun doesn’t remember when he wakes up. He hopes-
Kageyama-kun steps into view and Teru stops thinking about anything other than breathing through his fear and pain. A tear rolls off the side of his face and into his ear.
“Kage… yama… kun,” he wheezes, and can say no more. Blank white eyes bore into his own and all he can think is, ‘are you going to kill me?’
But Kageyama-kun only turns away after a moment. He doesn’t leave. But he doesn’t attack Teru either, or do anything else.
The pain starts to lessen and Teru realizes that it doesn’t really matter if he’s dying anyway. He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath-
Huh? Each breath comes easier. Nausea and lightheadedness dissipate. Teru lifts his arm to watch a nasty burn slowly fade to reveal perfectly healthy skin.
It’s not long before Teru risks sitting up and finds his body to be completely fine. His clothes are ruined, though. … Just like when that broccoli grew last year.
“Kageyama-kun…” he looks up at the figure standing so close. “Did you heal me?” There’s no other explanation, of course. Still, he asks. He doesn’t know what else to say.
Tumblr media
Kageyama-kun hunches his shoulders. A moment later, his hair lays flat.
“Huh? What happe- Ah! Hanazawa-kun!” Kageyama-kun turns around, himself again, and looks Teru up and down. “Are you alright?”
Teru blinks. Then a smile tugs his face and he huffs a small, relieved laugh. “Thanks to you, Kageyama-kun.” He pulls himself to his feet and claps his friend on the shoulder. “You’re amazing as always.”

did you guys know that i really, REALLY love both of the pilot episodes for mp100 seasons 1 and 2 because theyre fucking perfect. i'm gonna talk about them. shut up
S1E1:
literally the first thing you see is a distorted mob fighting evil spirits in a wasteland while his bgm plays. no dialogue, no context, no explanations; just batshit visuals and music to make sure you're awake for what's to come
introduces reigen in the funniest ways possible and immediately gets you familiar with his Vibe, yet leaves you with even more questions like "is this the main character? am i supposed to root for this asshole????"
whoops here comes a little boy! whoops he's extremely powerful! and doesn't that music sound familiar??
"THIS IS SHIGEO KAGEYAMA, ALSO KNOWN AS MOB- ... THE PROTAGONIST OF THIS STORY" incredible.
in contrast to All That we then see mob and reigen's ridiculous dynamic, followed by mob's daily life at school. whatever expectations you had about either of these characters 9 minutes ago were wrong (OR WERE THEY????)
now that you know the duo and their main characteristics a little better it's time to really watch them in action. the haunted tunnel does such a good job of showing what mob and reigen actually do at work, how they play off on each other's quirks, setting the tone for the overall supernatural plot, and of course the animation is just gorgeous too
ESTABLISHES THAT REIGEN ACTUALLY DOES LOOK OUT FOR MOB, AND WORRIES FOR HIS SAFETY, EVEN WHEN HE (REALISTICALLY) DOESN'T NEED TO. i can't stress how important this is to show from the beginning, i've seen so many people gloss over that detail and continue to act like he doesn't care about him?? wtf
ALSO ESTABLISHES MOB'S UNCONDITIONAL KINDNESS AND FORGIVENESS. very good
that final scene of mob just.. staring at a group of teens hanging out and talking together while he waits for reigen at the station, who then takes him out for ramen. it adds even more to the genuinity of their friendship, but also hints at mob's struggle to connect with others and figure out what to do in his spare time. all of that, that single episode is just like, the whole show. this is all you need to know
S2E1:
same old reigen with his same old schemes, but it's a nice detail that he didn't wamt to take money from the poor farmer guy and instead asked for a cut of his harvest (who said he doesn't even do fieldwork for a living anyway). reigen's refusal to accept unfair payment comes up a lot in this show and i think that's neat
same(?) old(?) mob goes "shishou for the love of god i have a life outside of this job yknow"
when the wriggle spirit captures reigen first and threatens to kill him if mob persists, mob actually lets his guard down. 1) he learned from last time 2) possibly foreshadowing how mob will be the one to save reigen in more ways than one this season
mob realizes that the spirit isn't directly possessing the plants, but rather sending out a signal that forces them to obey it, which is technically still a form of "control". COUGH minegishi COUGH COUGH toichiro
also mob basically learns plant magic! ~this action will have consequences~
🅱️ROCCOLI
lots of arcs that started in s1 are immediately continued! ichi and the psycho helmet cult, shinji stepping down from the student council, ritsu supporting his brother, etc. and just seeing how many friends mob has now that want him to succeed is amazing
the fact that mob even agrees to ichi's plan about the election and takes it so seriously is proof of how much more determined/confident he's become
mob gets asked out for the first time in his life, and even though it turns out he rejected emi, he's so cool about everything and still wants to hang out and get to know her - early s1 mob probably couldn't have handled it this well
"do you even have feelings, or your own opinions?" "i decided to consider my feelings more" THOSE ARE THE MAGIC WORDS FOR SEASON 2'S OVERALL THEMES AND PLOT BABEY!!!!
the floating paper scene. i don't even need to say anything just take it in
OHO? TSUBOMI? SCHEMING? LURKING? could this be the beginning of the rumored "character depth" i've heard so much about???
n e way. season 3 soon. explodes

we like to talk about the kind heart beating at the center of mob psycho 100...
its eminently huggable and relatable main characters...
the surprising maturity and accessibility of its psychological themes, the tightrope it walks between pathos and absurd humor, the abundance of sensitive neurodivergent representation within, and—for a story with a predominantly male cast—its largely unsexualized and refreshingly real girls and women.
i could keep listing more aspects of this story that i adore, honestly. but for me, it was one specific aspect of the writing that struck me the hardest.
as a person who used to inhale film and TV criticism like folks in the US devour breakfast cereal, i live for subversions of tired, well-worn storytelling patterns (call them tropes if you must). MP100 is full to leaking with subverted expectations. but only rarely do i ever see a writer subvert a done-to-death pattern and then subvert the subversion.
studio bones and ONE's writing work together to pull this off in the fifth episode of MP100's first season. on my first watch, i had to pick my jaw up off the floor at what i was seeing.
this got... long... more below the cut.
first, a little bit of framework.
the concept of single combat drives much of the action (and comedy) in shōnen fighting series.
it simplifies the conflict between cultures, between ways of life, between ideals, to a question of who is stronger in a no-holds-barred match between two people. the answer decides the fates of whole nations, hopefully but not always spares both sides from further bloodshed, and it's older than dirt.
the cathartic appeal of such distillation is not entirely lost on me, but i also crave novelty and nuance? and seem to be aging out of the shōnen demographic as a result. 'my kung-fu is stronger than yours!' 'yeah? well, i'm fucking bored with attempts to settle this question with fists or magic and no longer care.'
i do not count MP100 as a fighting series; the story doesn't conflate personal growth with increasing skill at punching shit and would hold up as a coming-of-age story quite well without battles. while MP100 flirts shamelessly with many fighting series clichés, it actively refuses to commit to those it engages. it rejects this one entirely by story's end.
when teruki hanazawa first becomes aware that shigeo kageyama exists and shares his easy facility with ESP, he and the audience are led to believe that the two boys will enter into a showdown like those we've seen so many times before. they'll fight it out like the real men they'll be soon, and a clear victor will emerge from the wreckage in their wake.
shigeo, of course, is flatly uninterested and baffled at this stranger fighting him unprovoked. teru figures he can preserve his view of the world by simply bringing the boy to heel, just as he has with everyone else around him. even after the little blond chuunibyou twists him until his bones crack... waterboards him in the depths of black vinegar middle school's swimming pool...
Tumblr media
[image ID: a teenaged boy in his physical education uniform of white tee shirt and red shorts is shown from the back and below him... at the very bottom of a swimming pool. he has been plunged in against his will; a barrier of sorts can be seen around his body -- his own defense against the middle schooler attacking him.]
demolishes much of the school grounds, wielding his spindly body as a wrecking-ball...
shigeo will not yield. nor does he indulge teru in his pointless lust for battle.
he doesn't see him as an enemy and, more importantly, doesn't want to hurt him. the child is painfully aware of how easily he could kill this boy, so he endures the abuse, though not without protest. i'd never seen a shōnen anime series that even presented refusing to fight as an option.
Tumblr media
[image ID: a bowl-cut-sporting teenage boy in a white tee shirt with a red collar stands hunched over and facing his antagonist offscreen to the viewer's right, in anticipation of another attack. he is saying 'i told you to stop that.' in the background is a statue of a human figure with arms raised above its head in victory. it will soon be made to topple onto him.]
though shigeo refuses to play this game at all, the lack of damage teru is able to inflict on him with ESP and his concise verbal summation of the profound insecurity driving teru's behavior already prove shigeo's superiority. teru needs to feel supported and justified in this unwarranted attack on another boy just like him, and so he demands, over and over, that shigeo fight back... that he show his powers. but it never sinks in for him that he's seeing them in action.
in the end, teru gives up on forcing shigeo's submission with ESP and uses his raw physical strength to strangle the young kageyama... who then plays this trope straight and utterly traumatizes teru into adopting a different outlook on life. after he passes the fuck out.
with teru's one-sided, tragic attempt at a brawl between himself and another esper child, ONE sends up the entire concept of magical single combat so hard it hits low earth orbit.
to make abundantly clear just how ridiculous this shit actually is? shigeo strips teru naked, then drains him dry of psychic energy by way of his fucking groin (in the anime) for even forcing him into this. you know, just for the extra humiliation. the boy's already been shaven like a fallen samurai at this point.
and teru's need to resist the challenge shigeo's existence presents to his way of life? we are made to see just how much harm that resistance to reality actually causes.
shattered glass, crushed concrete, wrecked doors, busted faucets spewing everywhere and wasting water—the camera lingers on these in-story, real-world consequences. actual shōnen fighting series rarely address such collateral damage outside of personal vendettas or playing it for comedy. (the comic bits here are almost necessary to leaven the pathos we're seeing, and are inseparable from that sadness.)
teru nearly commits first-degree murder twice and causes major property damage i doubt he had the power to fix. don't you dare look away, MP100's creators say. we need you, gentle watcher, to bear witness. teru is wrong. THIS WHOLE APPROACH to conflict is wrong. look again. does this remind you of anything?
and shigeo doesn't get off the hook either, though i'm inclined to give him a pass because reasons. he summarily flattens the rest of teru's school, finishing the job, and launches it (and him) above the clouds, but at least murder isn't on the table? the child suffers greatly for this unconscious act of retribution and continues to punish himself for this madness for some time... even after cleaning up the mess they both made when he returns to his senses.
no one wins here. what is 'winning'? what is 'losing'? are we even asking the right questions?
this arc—but especially this 'fight'—is darkly, absurdly funny, thought-provoking, and one of the most heartbreaking and moving things i'd seen in a long time. it sold me on this story and keeps me coming back in astonishment and gratitude.
(this is an expansion of part of a recap i wrote for this episode. you can read it here.)

has zombie mob ever bitten someone before? i know that he's pretty chill, but i like to think that the hypothetical situation that would trigger him would be if someone where to hurt ritsu or someone from the gang in general :o
(ALSO HIIII I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO OPEN TUMBLR BUT AAAH I'M SO GLAD YOU DON'T MIND MY ASKS 🫶🏼 i just love mp100 AND zombie films, never thought i'd come across where these two are combined 🥹)
HIII im ALWAYS happy to talk abt the sillies there is never a time where im Not thinking abt the sillies <33 !!!!
to preface this answer, there's little settlements of survivors dotted around the place in this world, and for many people, they're safe havens that are stocked w food and supplies and people who are willing to help you. the people there are typically heavily armed and ready for any zombies that come their way, and they patrol the territory regularly not just to loot the places nearby, but to watch for any zombies that have gotten through defenses
the settlements are full of people who, in general, like to help any outsiders they can—if they see a person trying to survive out in the wild alone, they'll offer shelter and food to them as long as they're not infected
if ur not ritsu, that is.
(warning for guns and some gore btw)
normally, they'd be more than happy to help a kid as young as ritsu. but he's traveling with a zombie. that is obviously an instant red flag for them, bc to them, it's pretty much guaranteed that ritsu is infected at this point. they don't see zombies the same way ritsu does—they don't know that zombies r still human and capable of very human thing
settlements actively Hunt zombies, instead of just kill them when they come around. they go on patrols and Search for zombies to take out, even if the zombies aren't actually endangering anybody atm. it makes sense to them, it's the obvious answer to them, but to ritsu, that's unbelievably cruel. to ritsu, that's no different from attacking humans unprovoked
they will also kill any infected people, even if they're still very much human in behavior. they see it as mercy kills. ritsu is very bitter abt it, but defending those zombies means putting his brother in danger, and his brother matters more to him than anything
to most people, seeing a settlement up ahead is a godsend. to ritsu, it's an oncoming death sentence. they WILL shoot him and shigeo on sight once they figure out shigeo is a zombie and ritsu is traveling with him, so ritsu has to be Extremely careful when around settlements. he generally tries to steer clear of them—the areas around them r usually looted already anyway, so there's no point in getting near
they're hard to avoid, though. and sometimes he runs into people patrolling the area. and sometimes they see ritsu guiding a zombie by the hand, and they're suddenly right on top of them and aiming to kill
shigeo doesn't just bite somebody. the fight evolves from ritsu aiming pitiful shots from his own pistol that all miss, to trying to disarm one of the patrol guys and getting pinned to the ground where the barrel of a gun is inching worryingly close to ritsu's face
shigeo doesn't just bite him, he tears out the guy's throat. ritsu scrambles away and takes the shotgun that he'd barely kept away from his face, and he simply watches in horror as shigeo rips tendons and muscles out from a man's neck. he gets it all entangled in his teeth and it takes everything ritsu has not to vomit immediately—he can't seem to look away from it, from the strings of flesh and blood dangling and trickling from his brother's mouth
when shigeo calms and he's not biting down on muscle anymore, ritsu has to get on his feet and get near his brother, which is admittedly hard to accomplish at the moment. he eases into his field of view and when shigeo sees him he doesn't immediately growl—his angry eyes actually soften, and ritsu gently pulls him up and pointedly ignores the blood covering shigeo's chin
cleaning the blood off his brother's face later makes the experience feel Real to ritsu, and he does his best not to burst into tears. he firmly decides that if (when,,, when.) he Does find the cure, and if shigeo Doesn't remember this, ritsu will never tell him. he's pretty confident that his brother would never be able to live with himself, if he knew what he just did to another human being

Neon, do you mind, if I ask your opinion on this post https://www.tumblr.com/hxhhasmysoul/729291653862621184/i-disagree-with-his-isolation-being-self-imposed ?
Mainly I don't agree with this post, but what do you think?
Also, sorry if I'm wrong in calling you "Neon". I don't mean to be rude. Can I ask, what to call you?
No need to apologize! I love that you guys call me Neon, I enjoy it. The thought that someone wants to refer to me by a name when they address me is really endearing, I don't know if that makes any sense. Neon, Scandal, Randall, whatever else you come up with - all are perfectly fine by me. 💜
GOJO
Regarding OP, there were some parts I'd say were maybe a little off base? but ultimately up for interpretation; however their characterization of Gojo is largely accurate, in my opinion. A few things here and there that I wasn't sure what they meant (like Kannon? but I know I make so many grammar/spelling mistakes in my rants so I get it).
Everything after the ATLA quote, in particular, is pretty rock solid. The section re: Gojo's isolation and comparison to Kageyama Shigeo is really interesting but, in my opinion, not quite apples to apples when, in universe, we've seen other examples of this extreme isolation caused by strength with Kashimo, Sukuna, and Yorozu (well, she tried, search Yorozu in link). Considering this, I wouldn't say it's a happenstance of Gojo's personality even though we can understand how it was cultivated within him specifically. There's also an inherent difference between socialization and being intrinsically understood which is what Gojo yearns for.
I say off base above but that's not the right sentiment. This poster has personal IRL experience that informs a bit of their interpretation in the section Gojou vs Megumi but that doesn't invalidate their opinion. If anything, it probably provides a greater, more authentic insight that other viewers, myself included, do not have access to which they don't necessarily have to disclose. This isn't an on par comparison but helps to explain what I might be having trouble articulating. I recently shared a video about listening to queer people about queer coding in media. That can be extended to other identities and experiences wherein the overarching idea is to listen to people who have experienced or are X, whatever X is, because their insight informs the validity of what they see in a character through coding, symbolism, pattern recognition, etc. So I don't outright disagree with them, I just lack understanding which is okay and doesn't, in any way, take away from their assessment but should perhaps temper my own.
Canonically, I think some bits in that section weren't entirely accurate, though
According to Gojo's recollection, he started to tell Megumi about killing his dad but Megumi cut him off having written his father off some time ago. Re: Megumi's recollection, he'd already tuned Gojo out anyway. I've said it a few times but maintain that this will boomerang back in a way that hurts so we're in agreement there.
I can't say this is based in canon so I'm calling that out now but the only thing that I do outright disagree with is as it pertains to Gojo "forgetting" he was fighting Megumi. Readers shouldn't always be influenced by the observations of characters in the story because even they are watching the story unfold. I expect some grand scheme/plot coming to light.
Re: Six Eyes + Limitless vs. Ten Shadows, knowing their mutually assured destruction, if Gojo were really worried about a reckoning, he could have just not told Megumi that that was even a possibility. Megumi is so unmotivated and, perhaps, insecure that I doubt the thought would have come to him at all so intimating that information had another purpose. Hell, at this point I guess we've seen it, no?
Even though I love Gojo as a character, I largely echo similar sentiments, I just don't proffer them as harshly (given the setting of the story) or, perhaps, I lightly romanticize or provide context for the "why" which softens or glosses over it. Like, even in the lovey dovey post I made listing out all of the saddest things about SatoSugu, I mention that Gojo prioritizes evening the score with Toji as opposed to avenging Riko in that deliberate order. Gojo is no angel and my affinity for him doesn't preclude me or anyone else from identifying his flaws and less than altruistic motives.
As I've said previously, I don't particularly care about other people's interpretation of a character or story as it doesn't impede my enjoyment. Subsequently, OP's fan/fandom inspired hate of a character was a bit outside my experience as perfect strangers won't taint something for me out of pure hateration lol When I first started reading it I was like... oh, brother.. it's gonna be one of those so I wouldn't be surprised if other people have trouble acknowledging their accuracy just because they let the intro sour their ability to read/learn/listen.
TL,DNR: Despite OP's very clear disdain, they objectively made accurate points that could help to temper other people's interpretation of Gojo's character who over idealize him.
Put down your pitchforks, you can keep your soft Gojo head canons and the like (and I'll keep mine ✨). But if you're interested in accuracy, the above is my opinion.
Fans and antis alike have a tendency to project way too much on Gojo which is funny because, as that writer pointed out, he exists within the context of this story. What you love, what you hate are still symptoms of the societal conditions that created him. He doesn't exist in a vacuum and he's not the only character who is flawed but, man, does he attract as much hate in fandom as he does in universe. Isn't that a microcosm of a phenomenon?? Still doesn't detract from the validity of OP's assessment of him.
Gojo is an impudent, selfish, awkward brat whose naivete allowed him to gamble on the fate of the world when he was a kid. He lost the one person he felt he connected with/understood and carved out a "master plan" befitting a 17 year old long into his 20's wherein even his good deeds carried the shadow of an ulterior motive (mind the title for the off the wall-ness of some of those theories..). I wish I could find the tumblr post where someone called him a lameass loser because that, too, was spot on and I feel like I reblogged it enthusiastically. We love him in spite of this. I still sympathize and identify with him which probably says way too much about me, actually 😅
SUKUNA
While this is a starkly shorter section compared to the above, I focused on Gojo since I think that was namely where your question was focused; however, OP made a really stunning observation regarding Sukuna and Uraume in comparison to Gojo and Ijichi which I totally missed.
But Uraume never seems worried that Sukuna might act erratically towards them because his mood is unpredictable. When they meet for the first time in the modern era they are both so genuinely happy to see each other. Sukuna immediately offers them words of reassurance. He always praises their work and their efforts even when Uraume themself is not happy with their performance. They totally just vibe with each other, like when the go mean girls on Yuuji when he breaks out of the ice. Sukuna is a mean, violent, murderous asshole. But the one person he appreciates has absolutely no doubt about it.
That is a solid hint of Sukuna's humanity that betrays his villainy. Here I thought he was just getting interesting in these last few pensive chapters where he's coming to terms with why he's been so insistent about belittling Yuji! Meanwhile, Uraume was the first indication.
Thank you for asking, anon. I'm sorry if I disappointed you but maybe the "spoonful of sugar" as relayed here helps from presumably one Gojo fan to another. I'm curious to know what you may have disagreed with (I don't take issue either way). Just because I'm unbothered doesn't mean other people's opinions don't influence my own so I'm always down to read your thoughts!

NEW Goku vs All (Tribute)
----
@the-ravenclaw-werewolf, @purplemochi20055, and @hulkchloron99
----
Hey everyone, just posting some commentary on what I think The 40 would react to this video of Son Goku soloing every known fictional character.
Note: I won’t be using all of the 40 character’s reactions.
Also, rest in peace Akira Toriyama.
----
Prince Zuko: I’m not surprised we won’t be able to defeat Goku. That Saiyan is far too powerful to fight at this point in time.
Midoriya Izuku: Perhaps if we were to face him before the Z timeline, we would have a chance. But the chances I believe are less than 15% given that he’s still incredibly fast and strong to take down.
Korra: Personally, even with the Avatar State, I couldn’t beat him if he were to use the first Super Saiyan transformation.
Midoriya Izuku: Yeah...but still...watching All Might being taken down so easily really opens my mind to what kind of power people can possess out there in the multiverse.
Prince Zuko: I agree, as even I’m still having trouble fathoming people being more powerful than the Avatar and even the spirits of my world.
----
Gojō Satoru: Ugh! Damn it Saitama, why did you have to kill me!? I could’ve taken him down easily even if he’s using Ultra Instinct!
Saitama: Eh...sorry about that.
Gojō Satoru: Oh you better, 'cause I won’t miss if you tried that. Invincible or not.
----
Kageyama "Mob" Shigeo: Uhhh...I think I’ll step this one out...
Saiki Kusuo: Nobody would blame you for it.
Serinuma Kae: Yeah, Goku’s power level just keeps on rising for some unknown reason. Despite being born as a low-class Saiyan...maybe I should read Leviathan Orb again...
----
Killua Zoldyck: Gon...
Emma: Sorry you have to see that Killua.
Ciel Phantomhive: I’m not surprised that your friend lost. Given that he’s on a time limit and destroying his body by using such a technique.
----
Mankanshoku Mako: OH COME ON! Ryoko would totally beat that Saiyan monkey!
Okumura Rin: Even if I were to use my full power, I wouldn’t be able to beat Goku.
Yukihira Souma: Imagine having to cook constantly to feed that monstrous appetite natural of the Saiyan race.
----
Kamado Tanjirou: Ah...I wouldn’t have won against Goku after what he’s capable of.
Shiota Nagisa: I would’ve just left that battlefield.
Suzuki Iruma: I...no comment.
----
Ishigami Senku: With the way Goku is fighting and the power he wields, I say that the chance of loss is 10 billion percent.
Fujioka Haruhi: That’s a very steep calculation...but as a non-combatant, I would have to agree.
Edward Elric: Trying to get close would be suicidal considering how fast he is and could sense me coming many miles away. Even if I manage to get close to using destruction alchemy on him, I’m not sure if it would go as I intended.
----
Kobayashi: Geez, not even Tohru could beat him.
Spike Spiegel: The best course of action for me is to give up and stay away.
Levi Ackerman: So long as Goku isn’t killing anyone, I won’t bother him.
Heine Wittgenstein: I second that opinion.
White Blood Cell / Neutrophil (U-1146): I wonder how the cells in his body function to create such power?
L: I would definitely say with 100% that Goku is someone to be wary of.
Fujinuma Satoru: Not even the power of "Revival” would help against this Saiyan at all.
Feliciano Vargas (North Italy): Even all of the Earth’s military forces won’t do anything against a Saiyan that reaches his full power. If anything, the only option would be to nuke the hell out of him and destroy the whole planet at that.

tagged by @irumaismybaby for 10 characters, 10 fandoms, and 10 tags!
1. Purson Soi 🎺 Mairimashita! Iruma-kun
Tumblr media
i think this one was obvious afdsgbg. i just love him sm, and the fact that you can see little snippets of him from the beginning of the series is fantastic and you never know where he's lurking is just so cool. he's so relatable and just a really well written character (every character in mairuma is well-written i love mairuma sm)
2. Kageyama Shigeo 🌻 Mob Psycho 100
Tumblr media
one of my favorite characters in mp100 it was hard to choose but i ultimately decided on mob! related to him so much i cried multiple times while watching the series (never skipped the opening it's such a banger). he's so nice and cool, and so damn relatable. he's got his funny moments too, despite being a strong psychic/esper he just wants to live his life regularly and not thinking himself as above others. this series is 100% fantastic, if you want a new anime to watch or manga to read, 100% recommend
3. Agatsuma Zenitsu ⚡ Demon Slayer
Tumblr media
honestly i was so annoyed at him and his crying but realized: "Oh i relate to him" so that was a crisis /lh. but yeah i can see how his crying and whining can get annoying and get many fans to dislike him, but seeing his backstory, experiences, and just basic personality remove the crying. i'll be crying every day if i were him too. he's just so cool and awesome, he gets confidence whenever he falls asleep but when he wakes up his self esteem and confidence plummets, he only knows one breathing form but he mastered it to the T!
4. Akane Aoi ⏳ Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun
Tumblr media
akane aoi! idk why but he's just really cool, part supernatural, clock keeper of the present. his 'love' for aoi is more of an obsession with her. his entire character revolves around her, and that's gotta spark some identity crisis within himself some day, i love it.
(lemon yamabuki is a close runner-up though i need more content of lemon)
5. Furuichi Takayuki Beelzebub
Tumblr media
oooo boy this series is an old one but i still love it with all my heart. furuichi takayuki! best friend of tatsumi oga! the tactician/general of the delinquent school, ishiyama high! he's known as the 'Perverted' character and gets beat up for it a l o t in canon but i love how its not his ONLY defining trait, they also handled the pervert issue in my favorite arc in the manga and showed how one-dimensional and shallow the characters see him. he's so well-written and fleshed out and his entire character is *chef's kiss* i love him so much and can go in an entire rant about him but this is long enough.
6. Cheslock 🎻 Black Butler
Tumblr media
he gave me so much gender envy when i first saw him. please he's so cool and despite his punk aesthetic he's a musical genius i cant wait to see him get animated. he's actually a side character but honestly i dont care i just love that he exists but is chronically underrated please-
7. Jun'ichiro Tanizaki ❄️ Bungo Stray Dogs
Tumblr media
ok first up- his relationship with his sister is 100% WEIRD, there is a chance that theyre not actually related but it's still quite weird to do romantic acts with someone you openly call a sibling. disregarding that, tanizaki is a force to be reckoned with ngl, he's scary when he needs to be, his ability is strong and the way he utilizes it is amazing. he looks so harmless but he can actually kill you. i want his sweater right there it looks comfortable especially with the long sleeves i can hide my hands in as well
8. Zuko 🔥 Avatar: the Last Airbender
Tumblr media
need i explain more. he's ZUKO. the ORIGINAL bad guy gets redemption arc, but done 100% RIGHT. they gave him a tragic backstory, stubborn and determined personality, funny personality and memorable quotes, and the most memorable hair journey. flameo hotman.
9. Anthony J Crowley 😈 Good Omens
Tumblr media
i love him sm, he's so funny and cool, radiates sm gender envy too and i want to steal his entire closet. despite being a demon he's undeniably not Evil, he causes mischief efficiently, and i love efficiency.
10. Barbatos ☕ Obey Me
Tumblr media
i don't know why he's my favorite he just is. he's so nice and kind in-game, he's efficient, competent, charming, i love him sm. he can basically do everything, a walking tea encyclopedia, likes heavy metal, and greatly dislikes rats. he can also control time and timelines?? so cool why dont people like barbatos more
and if you noticed that six of these fandoms contain demons/demonology, i'm wondering about that too.
i love tag games sm, thank you for tagging me again<3 despite liking tag games i dont know that many blogs enough to tag so if you see this you're very VERY much welcome to join in as well!

Who are you really, Gojo Satoru?
(⚠️⚠️⚠️Jujutsu Kaisen Spoilers ahead⚠️⚠️⚠️)
One of the key elements of mob psycho is that you are not the most important person. With all your special powers, your unique prowess with god and anime on your side, how great is that against learning how to do better in math? What about when you’re trying to woo a crush who’s already seen all your tricks?
That, in on its own, is the question Gojo Satoru has yet to answer for.
Tumblr media
I can’t believe I’m doing a character analysis over this dumbass
If you’ve ever wondered a “what if Mob never had Reigen” scenario, Gojo is the closest example. This isn’t just evident in the way that he’s an absolute manchild with his powers because he feels like there will never be consequences to his actions, but the aspect that he cannot perceive his identity beyond “strength.”
The world of Shaman / the Society of Sorcerers all perceive someone by the value of their strength alone. It doesn’t matter if that person is intelligent, has stable moral groundings or is able to overcome the most extensive of trauma. What matters to them, in the end, is how strong you really are. This is what made Gojo valuable because he was born strong. He didn’t eat a wrinkly finger from a dead cursed spirit, nor did he build himself to achieve such strength; he was born with it and was constantly hunted by bounty hunters.
Tumblr media
Imagine your parents saying that when you were born
Someone on Twitter did a psychoanalysis of Gojo and I couldn’t agree more that he was probably raised in the way “gifted kids” were; they had to always exceed their conservative / authoritarian parents’ expectations, if not they would be perceived as a disgrace to their family. It also clears up how Gojo turned out to be an absolute pompous brat later on.
Tumblr media
Take that phrase: “When Gojo was born, the power of the world was altered” and compare that to someone like Mob, who was raised without a heavy expectation for shifting the entire foundation of ESP:
Tumblr media
His father doesn’t do a comparison between espers, but rather how people waste away their lives without self-destructive indulgences like cigarettes.
From the day of his birth, Gojo became a practical poster child for said “limitless” potential. He wasn’t raised like Mob who just happened to have this great power, he was treated as if there was only one of him in the world (and there is!), but it mentally placed a child onto a pedestal and managed to severe his empathy to said “weak” links.
Tumblr media
“Protect the weak” what, are we the fucking teen Titans now??
In the eyes of a teenage Satoru, caring for the weak is as annoying as babysitting screaming brats. The only reason as to why he would say that is because he lacked empathy for those who were perceived as weak. The reason as to why he didn’t understand them was that he wasn’t raised around them / raised to understand them. He isn’t going to a normal HS, he’s going to a Curse College Tech where everyone has powers—but none of them as powerful as him.
Mob’s middle school only has three known espers: Mob, Ritsu and Takenaka. Everyone else is either a kid, a member of the body improvement club, or they’re unimpressed with psychic powers.
That eventually leads up to where Gojo learned his valuable lesson from: Getou. The scene in which Getou leaves after he lost purpose in being a Shaman is the closest we’ve got to a question asked in Mp100. There’s many ways to interpret it, but Getou (and even Nanami) always felt like they were consistently shadowed by a man who could do anything—ANYTHING—as long as he gave it his all.
Tumblr media
Gojo didn’t just get the Reigen talk that Mob did, he got the Reigen “you’re-an-adult-fighting-misguided-minors-with-superpowers-you’re-a-fucking-joke” talk.
It’s a parallel (not similar) to what we’ve seen in Mp100 where Reigen simply tells Mob to be a good person. Getou doesn’t tell Gojo to be good or terrible to others, he simply tells him that he could easily kill him if he tried. Yet, the question is what makes Gojo hesitate to end him there—as if being the strongest in a world that would sooner get rid of you once you lose your worth to it is meaningless if that is all you are.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Are you strong because you’re Kageyama Shigeo or are you Shigeo Kageyama because you’re strong?
This is what changes Gojo entirely, as he would sooner become a mentor for the next generation than to let his skin blister in the limelight longer than it has. However, the biggest factor that I’ve noticed about Gojo is that he doesn’t run away from the Shaman world afterward.
We don’t see Gojo in a Nanami-esque situation where he works as the wacky History teacher at some tiny highschool with unique powers. We don’t see him settle down with someone and have a family of his own, all while hiding his past to his children so he and his spouse can live comfortably. He, instead, wants to change the sorcery world from the inside-out because he doesn’t want his kids / the generations after him to become no better than the executives.
In a personal opinion, I think he still doesn’t know how to live without being a Shaman. Everything he does, he can do with just the right amount of elbow grease. He can literally become the prime minister, but it won’t give him a natural understanding of those he would mentor / massively shadow.
Tumblr media
Watch your fucking profanity
In a twisted way, Gojo is trying to be what Getou would have been if he never defected. The only problem is that he’s not giving the next generation a broader insight of what lies beyond sorcerery. He doesn’t tell them that they have choices in life or informs them that they can astray from the tech. Instead, it’s borderline hypocritical where he expects the new generation to be able to change the world of sorcery without that insight. It only brings me, and even Gege, to ask this character:
How can you expect change if you, yourself, have never experienced it?

Mob Psycho Episode 1: Self-Proclaimed Psychic Reigen Arataka ~and Mob~
(#mob-blogging or #✨Shigeo ‘Mob’ Kageyama✨ are the tags to block if you’re not interested :3)
I actually started watching Mob Psycho 100 over a year ago and gave up because I thought I wouldn’t like it. Because I found Mob’s mentor repulsive. The first episode is one of the worst for this because it’s setting up the weird relationship between them. So here’s him:
Tumblr media
Reigen Arataka introduces himself as ‘the greatest psychic of the twenty-first century!!!’
He is NOT the greatest. He is not even a psychic. He is a con man who convinces people he’s a psychic to make a living. He’s an over-dramatic, ego-filled character who relies on charisma.
In the first episode, he takes an exorcism job, insults the physical appearance of his client, and is incredibly rude to her boyfriend within the space of two minutes.
UGHHHHH
this is where I started to give up last time, and I still cringe
BUT! What I didn’t notice last time was that Reigen follows the client into a supposedly haunted building, meets an actual ghost, is surprised, and immediately attacks it with table salt. Huh. He doesn’t run away—not typical of a Cowardly Con Man type. And then he gets out his phone and calls what he calls ‘my ultimate weapon!!’
It’s Mob. He calls Mob.
Tumblr media
This blank-eyed little uniformed boy is Mob, by the way. You should see what he actually looks like since I gave you the terrifying version from the opening sequence.
Mob... skips school, I think?... to come help Reigen. He walks into the room calmly. The ghost laughs at Reigen for calling some middle-schooler. Mob calmly lifts one hand and exorcises him. Just like that. The ghost explodes and vanishes.
Turns out that Reigen is employing Mob, and telling Mob that Reigen is the most powerful psychic of the blah blah blah, and that Mob is lucky to learn from REIGEN ARATAKA, yadda yadda yadda. Ughhhh again. The first time I watched this, I wasn’t interested in seeing this dynamic based on a lie play out forever, but I thought maybe it’d be worth it later.
Later, when Mob diffidently reminds Reigen that he asked Reigen not to call him last-minute, Reigen says to Mob, “I’m teaching you to control your powers. You don’t want them to go berserk, do you? Remember your promise: you will not use your psychic powers against other people.”
Huh! It seems that he’s actually possibly being helpful? Maybe? Or is he just manipulating Mob? He’s certainly paying Mob far less than Mob deserves. Also, he belittles Mob’s considerable power and calls him an idiot. Not cool.
After the haunted building incident, we see a bit of Mob’s life. It seems that Mob is:
prone to accidentally psychically bend his spoons when stressed out at dinner (his parents scold him good-naturedly for it and his brother offers to talk if he needs to)
innocently crushing on a girl he doesn’t talk to but who he thinks is ‘as cute as ever today :3′
bad at math (falls asleep in class)
bad at sports (fails terribly at soccer despite trying)
endearing in how earnestly he takes all these things
Then Reigen calls Mob again. They go and investigate a disused tunnel famous for being haunted. Once again, Mob defeats lots of spirits, with Reigen nervously claiming that he’s letting Mob take care of “the small fry”.
And HERE is the thing that gave me hope for the series:
After defeating a gang of motorcycle-gang ghosts, Mob is heading down the tunnel to investigate a powerful aura he sensed. Reigen is staying behind, talking to the tiny remnant of a ghost that Mob partially exorcised earlier. The ghost becomes frantic and tells Reigen that the spirit down in the tunnel is really really powerful and has killed everyone who went missing in the tunnel.
The ghost warns Reigen, “If you care for that kid at all, call him back! Hurry!!”
Reigen hesitates, and then he yells “HEY! MOB! COME BACK! ARE YOU LISTENING?? COME BACK!” or something to that effect.
And for some reason I was convinced: Reigen’s not just protecting his investment here, he’s genuinely concerned for Mob. He never expected to run into anything that could pose an actual threat to the kid.
(Mob doesn’t listen, which turns out fine because he’s far more powerful than the thing in the tunnel. Actually, in a mirror to the opening sequence, he allows himself to be eaten by the monster before blowing it up from the inside.)
And then Mob comes walking calmly back, unruffled, and Reigen berates him a bit, relieved to see him again, and all’s well that ends well. Or is it?
The first episode is one of my least favorites, tbh. It relies a lot on the dynamic between Mob and Reigen, which, while funny, does rub me wrong. Or did, until a twist in the second season which I chose to interpret in such a way that... well, it makes things better.
(Side note: this all makes the show seem pretty serious. I need to add that their city is named Seasoning City and the ghosts died A) from jumping so high they cracked their head on the ceiling after seeing a cockroach and B) from slipping on a banana peel in a motorcycle and crashing their whole motorcycle gang. This episode is definitely on the humorous side, and the entire show is always playing with expectations like this, keeping things relatively light.)
That was a lot. Here, have a cute Mob and Reigen, as a treat.

I’ve seen a fad where people describe their original character’s personality with a few canon characters from different series.
What characters do you think you could combine to make Joelle?
☆꧁✬◦°˚°◦. ♠ ♣ ♥ ♦ .◦°˚°◦✬꧂☆ Thank you for the ask Mel! It actually took me a good amount of time to even decide upon who would be most fitting to build Joelle. Since she has some of my own self insert in her , but really which oc doesn't? It was kind of hard to decide xD But I think I've managed to collect the ones that are pretty relatable with my character. So here it goes!
Tumblr media
Lucy - Elfen Lied If I have to be honest I've never would of thought upon how similar Joelle and Lucy stories are. I was never intending to have so many similarities with this specific characters until recently I stumbled upon a video that made me remember a bit more about the anime and how it played out. Lucy is a very interesting character , born with a 'sickness' ever since she was little kind of reminded me upon Joelle's origin as a pillar both past and present . Lucy has been bullied , barely knew any kind of friends and because of her 'sickness' everyone was after her because what she can cause with her powers , until she stumbled upon one that really liked her for who she was [Kind of gives me the possible Joseph or Rei vibes but without the romantic kind of intent that was implied in the story because Lucy did fall in love with her best friend.] She was brought into a lab to keep away from the outside world and experimented on , until she broke out and was given a chance for a second life regardless of what she had witnessed and did in her youth.
Tumblr media
Ren Tao - Shaman King A few aspects that I can collect from Ren are the anger he has built for humanity that really matches with Joelle's story . Because when she ended up in the XPD facility where they did various of experiments on her and basically played her like a toy she began to pile up a lot of anger upon those people creating an image in her head that they were all the same . But after meeting with someone who opened her eyes to the world , she began to have another look upon things and wanted to try and move on and heal but also find a new purpose in life .
Tumblr media
Edward Elric - Fullmetal Alchemist When ever I would look at Ed I could actually see a few aspects of Joelle as well , because of his own determination to fix what he has done in the past and return his brother back to his original body , reminds me of how Joelle wants to protect her new family and find a way to stop evil from prevailing . It also gives a pinch of hint upon how him and his brother were trying to bring back their mother , is a similarity upon how Joelle wanted to bring back her own mother but instead she ended up releasing a curse that later on haunts her , the same way Ed and Alphonse tried to bring their mother back and ended up creating a homunculus being. Sadly I haven't watched brotherhood and I really need to , but I'd assume I'd find even more similarities if I do so~. But I do however see a lot of pieces of Ed in Joelle!
Tumblr media
Misaki Ayuzawa - Kaichou wa maid-sama This goes a bit on her emotional side to be honest. Misaki is a perfect representation of Joelle , a strong and very responsible individual and yearns for a piece of romance in her life that will assure her that they will stay with them for who they are . A perfect aspect of her Tsundere side because she is very conflicted and very confused when it comes to these sort of things. I absolutely adore her strong character and how she is able to handle so many responsibilities , reminds me upon her current position in the SpeedWagon foundation , a lot fear her because of how she would act and how her attitude just goes across the room, but a good amount also admire her when they get to know her personally and understand her better upon why she is the way she is , that she has a very gentle side to her.
Tumblr media
Chise Hatori - Ancient Magus Bride Another little lost soul that was being sold to the world. Chise has always been one of my most favorite characters once I started the anime , the aspects of her that I see in Joelle are the growth she managed to accomplish with herself , she used to have a normal life a happy family , but eventually that turned around when 'dark beings' (which would hint the cults of Hearteater) began to make their way into their life and make it more dangerous to be around , and even the fact that her own 'blood and family' tried to kill her is the hint of her father that almost killed her. [But in the anime it was the mother that tried to.] She eventually ends up in good hands which help her see the world with different eyes and find who she really is and help her discover her own courage and determination that she wants to do better for herself and others around her .
Tumblr media
Shigeo Kageyama - Mob Psycho Little little shy Mob~. He was one of my main inspirations if I have to be honest because a lot matched with the two of them. This comes around her more doubtful and shy side. Mob is a perfect representation of both Joelle's moods , when she is sweet and respectful to a menace and a deadly being if they come near their family. Her relationship with Reigen matches with the one me and my friend Mel have with Joelle and Yorie . Let's not forget about how crazy batshid he went when they took his brother away and he was willing to do everything in his powers to save him... but there was also the fire in his house.. now that is basically the next level of Chapter Death in a sense. But for real there are a lot of aspects behind Mob that I connect with Joelle and how her character is displayed~.
Tumblr media
Yuuji Itadori - Jujutsu Kaisen Yuji is the aspect of Joelle that exists kind of rare but it's still there , it's her little goofy side , but the amount of love for her friends and family is also there . His determination and courage to protect his new friends is the same as Joelle trying to protect her own regardless of what kind of burden both of them carry that can cause the destruction of the world, even if the the two of them might appear weak to most they would always throw themselves in danger to protect their loved ones , but later one begin to grow in personality and strength . Maybe I can even connect a tad bit Sukuna and Chapter Death because both are the representation of the final stage when the 'scary' takes over and would basically erase your existence . Yuji and His friends remind me a whole lot of Joelle and her own little crew and how each of them help each other and will always be there no matter what. Basically the hero that wants to save everyone and doesn't really care what happens to them , as long as everyone is safe .
Tumblr media
Manjiro Sano and Ken Ryuguji - Tokyo Revengers These two go in pair ~. I see a big portion of aspects of the two in Joelle and each of them kind of represent her 'goofy' and her very serious and respect side. Mikey is a bit more laid back and chill but at the same time very scary , a bit how Joelle is in a sense how she can be so calm on certain occasions until she finally snaps and beats the crap of anyone who doubted her and called her 'small and helpless.' This is the aspect I enjoy the most between the two because they underestimate their opponent and then get their ass handed to them , that's how the two kind of go xD. Draken would be maybe her grown up and mature side in a way and the one that keeps things in line when ever there is justice that needs to be served because no one is allowed to hurt their friends and family. Very loyal and determined and even jump down to apologize for their wrongs to try and correct themselves and possibly help their friends understand the situation a little better , unless there is no way out they always try and reason first before jumping into action.
Tumblr media
Nezuko Kamado - Demon Slayer / Kimetsu no Yaiba [New Add] I almost forgot!! Honestly I can't forget to include my favorite little goofball . Another little demon that I can see a lot of personality traits and aspects in Joelle as well. Nezuko and Tanjiro are also a good representation of both Jericho and Joelle in a sense because of how strong their bond is beyond anything . I don't want to spoil anything in my current arcs because I want to keep it a surprise since I have a whole lot of things to decide on . Nezuko displays Joelle's very protective side and very caring one as well the side of value she feels towards her surroundings and regardless of being a little 'different' she still is the same person no matter what happens and will never lose her humanity even after being 'cursed'. And even be a little bit of a hint of her sensitive and cute side too regardless that she doesn't show it too often xD.
Tumblr media
Saitama - One Punch Man And last but not least , I put him on the bottom because at the beginning when I was creating Joelle I would always think of Saitama and how she was going to play out of sort of a joke that is really powerful and kind of blunt in a sense . But now she has grown so much and has so much potential , story and personality behind her that you can't even imagine! Saitama was maybe my very first inspiration when I created her because for some odd reason I really like OP shid and I mean literally xD. I don't know why but I just do , but regardless of Joelle being kind of OP orientated , later on when I began to play out her story I started to balance her because I wanted her to seem a bit more real other than I just came here to kick your ass and you're dead now lmfao. She still has some funny little aspects of Saitama behind her that's for sure , but she is completely different now and I am super proud of what a long journey she has gone through and grown so much as a character ^ ^. Thank you so much for sending in dear!!I really enjoyed this ask <333!! - Cards

First Lines
Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all!). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line. Then tag 10 of your favorite authors!
No one tagged me, but I saw it and thought it would be fun! I’ll tag @boostthatgold and @immaplatypus if you want to participate! No pressure obvs!
Also, as a disclaimer, I realized that many of my first lines are rather abrupt, simple sentences, so I put in the first few lines for some. I’ll be putting a “Keep Reading” a little bit of the way down!
Finally, if you decide you want to read one of these fics, be sure to read the tags!! Many of these contain angst and/or dark themes, but not all. Please heed the tags so you can make sure it’s right for you!
1. Purpose, Kurogiri & Tomura Shigaraki
“Do you trust me?” It was a heavy question to expect a young child to answer, but there was no way to avoid asking it.
2. Tuesday Morning Flowers, Ougai Mori/Yukichi Fukuzawa
As of late, Tuesdays had become Ougai Mori's favorite day of the week. There was nothing particularly special about it-- in fact, it was an arbitrary selection that didn't harbor much significance-- but he had given it meaning of his own volition.
3. Understanding Love, Ryuunosuke Akutagawa/Atsushi Nakajima
Ryuunoske Akutagawa understood hatred.
It was something he had been saturated with as far back as he could remember. Whether he was struggling on the streets or thriving in the Port Mafia, he was more than familiar with being the object of fear and hatred. Even more so, he was accustomed to dishing it out.
4. Unstoppable Force, Ranpo Edogawa/Edgar Allan Poe
They found him on the sidewalk.
Over the course of his life, Ranpo had seen more corpses than the average person would ever wish to. They rarely perturbed him; they were little more than another element to any given case he was working on. Gruesome scenes didn’t leave him fazed in the slightest. He’d seen where a knife had sliced through someone’s throat, bullets pierced their chest, or their body had been mutilated to the point of entrails seeing the light of day.
Never before had he seen a body look this peaceful .
5. In the Language of Flowers Ch 2, Teru Hanazawa/Shigeo Kageyama
Kageyama Shigeo liked Takane Tsubomi.
Teru knew that well enough. Hell, anyone who had spent a decent amount of time around Shigeo would know that. It wasn’t something he necessarily tried to hide.
6. In the Language of Flowers Ch 1, Yuusuke Sakurai/Megumu Koyama
Love; what a concept. It was easily the strongest force in the universe while simultaneously being the most volatile. Love could be a saving grace and everything someone needed; Love could be the most destructive weapon known to mankind when wielded as such.
7. Lovely, Hatchi Kita/Robby Yarge
Betrothal.
Hatchi had only been home for a short while before the topic was brought up again. It wasn’t new in the slightest-- he had always known that he would be paired off with some wealthy gentlewoman and that he was going to have to at least pretend to like it-- but he hadn’t expected it to happen so soon.
8. Flawless, Katsuki Bakugou & Tsunagu Hakamata
“Ouch! Watch what you’re doing with that thing!”
“If you weren’t squirming around so much, you wouldn’t get poked as often.”
“Oh, fuck you.”
9. Where It Doesn’t Hurt, Tsunagu Hakamata/Keigo Takami
Heroism and death walked hand in hand. Any hero who insisted otherwise was either new, naive, or completely in denial. Hero society itself was born from the need to protect people against a new form of death and destruction that had razed the world upon the introduction of quirks, and it was impossible to separate the two.
10. Casual, Shouto Todoroki/Tenya Iida
Shouto was familiar with affection in theory . He knew what it was supposed to be like. When he was young, he experienced brief moments of loving kindness from his mother wherein she would kiss his forehead and run her fingers through his hair (the right side; he didn’t notice it at that age, but she always favored his right side).
11. Playing the Villain, Shuichi Iguchi & Tenko Shimura/Tomura Shigaraki
You can play with us, but you have to be the villain!
That was what the other kids said every time Shuichi approached them, costume cape tied around his neck and eager to join in with the other little ‘heroes.’ Even at only five years of age, he was more than familiar with that kind of discrimination-- that kind of unfairness -- but it never stopped him from going back to try again.
12. Running Out of Time, Hari Kurono/Kai Chisaki
Hari’s relationship with time was a unique one; that much, he could recognize without any issue.
13. Remembering Shirakumo, Kurogiri-centric, background Kurogiri/Atsuhiro Sako, background Shouta Aizawa/Hizashi Yamada
Being caught hadn’t been part of the plan.
14. Becoming Kurogiri, Kurogiri-centric, Kurogiri/Atsuhiro Sako, Kurogiri & Tomura Shigaraki
Something was wrong. He could feel it in his bones: a deep, throbbing ache within him making his limbs heavy and distress swell up and spread to every extremity. The epicenter of his pain was positioned right above his eye, every awful feeling radiating out from that focused point. His head spun, rushing through empty thoughts faster than he could process their meaninglessness. The pain meant something; the weight meant something; this terrible, hurried static in his head meant something, but he could not place his finger on it. He was equal parts incoherent and consumed by his blank, dark surroundings and, had he possessed the bodily control to do so, he may have succumbed to nausea.
Move. Get away. You can’t stay here. You’re not safe. They’re not safe. You need to protect them. It’s too late.
15. Keepsakes Ch 3, Yogar Lyste/Kassius Konstantine
Minister Maketh Tua had died.
The news was laid upon him without ceremony or compassion, so he hardly had the bearings to comprehend it before the topic switched over. He could hardly ask for the information to be repeated-- no, he wouldn’t have a leg to stand on, seeing as he shouldn’t have been eavesdropping on a report between an ISB agent and a superior officer. Nevertheless, even if he weren’t intruding in such an unprofessional manner, his voice was nowhere to be found. Blood rushed from his cheeks, forgetting his limbs and turning him into an ashen grey statue as daunting, echoing thoughts boomed in his head.
16. A Quiet Night, Kurogiri/Atsuhiro Sako
Kurogiri hadn’t known quiet in over a decade. Ever since taking young Tomura Shigaraki under his wing, peace had become a foreign concept to the warp villain. If his hair could show from behind his smoke, each grey hair would tell the story of another late night where sleep just wasn’t an option; another close call that had him stitching up open wounds; another task placed on Shigaraki’s shoulders that he was still far too inexperienced to execute properly of which he often took the brunt of the consequences.
17. Same, Daniel/David or Daniel & David
“ This is for your own good. You’ll understand later.”
18. The Dark Knights, Bruce Wayne/Jeremiah Valeska
Killing Jerome Valeska the second time around felt too easy. The man had clawed and ripped his way out of hell, gasping through waves of shed blood to feed his madness, his entire being a reflection of everything perverse and rotten in the human soul. To be felled by a proverbial “fall from grace” was insulting.
19. Different, Jerome Valeska & Jeremiah Valeska, Jerome Valeska & Paul Cicero
Jeremiah was nothing like Jerome.
Even before they could speak, the boys couldn’t have been more different. Jeremiah would take the cheap, plastic blocks and pile them; Jerome would wait for the perfect moment to strike and knock them down. He would laugh; Jeremiah would not.
20. How to Lie to Yourself, Janus “Deceit” Sanders
Start with something simple.
Look in the mirror and hold your own gaze. Don’t break eye contact-- that’s a sign of weakness, even to yourself.
So, it looks like I definitely do have a pattern when it comes to opening lines. Out of these, I have to say that my favorite is either Unstoppable Force’s or Flawless’s line(s).

Could sleep last night so i made a MP100 au lol.
Power comes from emotions, mainly strong ones, like pain. It is often said that those who are strong, suffered a lot.
·         Hanazawa, 22, gets assigned to the Esper Vigilance and Control Department of the Japanese Policeforce, also known as EVCD. They are encharged with keeping track on espers.
·         With such inhuman habilities and complicated pasts, the goverment considers Espers especially dangerous. After Mogami’s attacks, they started registering all espers on the system, writing down their powers and capacities, and watching them to make sure none of the broke the rules.
·         Hanazawa, an esper, is assigned to work with Tome. Teams are usually built off a human and an esper, so in case something goes wrong someone can fight with the dangerous esper.
·         Needles to say, Teru isn’t very exited about his new job. He doesn’t complain though, because someone with a past like him feels just grateful that he didn’t end up in jail yet.
·         Teru was a gangster and used his powers on other people, until he was forced to change. He picked a fight with the wrong person and they beat him up.
·         ―You should use your powers on people, ―the other kid told him.
·         He teached Teru a lesson: he wasn’t special. Espers like him, weren’t special. He was just another member of society, and if he wanted to belong, he had to adapt.
·         Luckily for him, he was never caught by the police.
·         “Everyone deserves a second chance”, he thinks. But the system doesn’t.
·         When he arrives on his first day, Tome isn’t there. She is checking on some of their Espers. He is told to check on another one, and because she isn’t there, he has to go alone.
·         Kageyama Ritsu and Suzuki Shou are partners and his deskmates. They help him out a bit.
·         ―Ah, you got Mob―, Shou says.
·         ―¿Mob?
·         The subject hasn’t got a lastname, just his name figuring: “Shigeo”. There also isn’t any information on his strengt level. Orphan, entered the system when he was eight after an incident where a kid got hurt. No other problems since then.
·         ―That’s what we call him, cause he’s like, a mob character, in the background. That guy’s probably the easiest one here. No one’s even seen him use his powers, I don’t think he’s even an esper.
·         ―If he’s like what I heard, you’all should learn from him. ―Ritsu.
·         ―Don’t mind this guy. He hates people like us.―Shou
·         Hanazawa takes it as his cue to leave.
·         There isn’t a photo of this mob guy.
·         Mob works at the supermarket and Hanazawa goes to check out there. He barely graduated High School with average-low grades, so now he’s a repositor. From what Hanazawa has seen, this guy isn’t very good at keeping a job, he often losses them.
·         As if to prove it, When Hanazawa arrives Mob is getting scolded for dropping milk.
·         ―Though day at work, huh?
·         Mob looks at him bluntly. ―Huh? Ah, yes.
·         Imagine Teru’s surprise after seeing ‘Mob’ is the guy who saved his life, all those years ago.

cue to Mob

·         Mob was eight, coming from school with his little brother when suddently a bunch of high scholers attacked them to steal their money. After losing conscious because of being hit, Mob opens his eyes and sees them all hurt: The high scholers, and Ritsu. He had hurt him.
·         Mob gets taken away.
·         ―Espers have to learn to live in society and adapt themselves to it’s rules―, the goverment tells their family. They tell Mob parent’s that he attacked his little brother.
·         ―We will take good care of him.
·         This was just after Mogami’s attacks, society was scared, goverments were getting though. Mob wasn’t a kid no more. He was an Esper.
·         Legally speaking, Mob is given out on adoption. Truth is his parents didn’t have a choice.
·         Ristu grows up without knowing he ever had a brother.
·         Mob grows up thinking he killed his.
·         Mob starts living in the goverment facilities for Esper kids. They slowly start filling up. Bunch of bunk beds on an indoor gym, old houses and stuff. School is the usual, except for Ethics Class.
·         “Never use your powers on a human being”
·         They got punished every time they used their powers. Mob, being clumsy as he is, forgot at the beginning. His powers slipped like a person is used to scratching when it itches, or blinking.
·         He got punished often.
·         Bad marks, bad looks, clumsy, antisocial. The other kids bullied him a lot. Some teachers did too.
·         They cut his hair, helmet cut. Mob kept it.
·         For those who chose to work in the police force, they were moved, given proper training. Mob learnt that using his powers was wrong, so he never used them. Especially using them on people. That was off limits.
·         That’s what he told that guy me met when he was around fifteen, coming home from school. He saw a fight. Among them was an Esper kid, beating up others.
·         Mob didn’t want him to end up in the system like him.
·         But he accidentally hurt the kid. Almost killed him. Mob came home late, beaten up, and was punished for it afterwards. It was the first time anyone saw him cry, even though it wasn’t his first physical punishment, nor was it the worst.
·         But Mob wasn’t crying because of the pain. He cried bc he hadn’t changed. After all this years, he had done it again. He had hurt someone.
·         Mob grew up and started working on lots of things. Because he was clumsy and dumb, he was often fired. He lived on a shithole.
·         One day he was tested to write down the level of his powers on the files, but he didn’t do anything. He got beaten up by the testers, who though Mob was just trying to pretend he wasn’t an Esper, but still he didn’t move. They wrote a bunch of question marks on his strength level. Nobody thought it was too big thou, mostly going on with the values he had as a child.
·         As if his only capacity was breathing and standing there, on EVCD he was given the nickname Mob.
·         But strength came from pain and suffering. Mob’s powers were unimaginable.
telk me if u wanna know how it goes on!

Shimamine adopting Teru idea that I will probably never write a fic on
I don’t even know how it happened, but it does, and Teru does not like it one bit at first.
Teru wondering why there’s just so many plants in the house, it’s literally everywhere, and he’s afraid of killing them on accident. But according to Minegishi, they won’t die that easily, since they’ve got a bit of Minegishi’s powers in em.
Teru taking advantage of Shimazaki’s blindness by always drawing on his face in the morning as revenge.
“Why are you only nice to Minegishi? Are they your favorite???”
“Because Shigeo likes them.”
“Of course.”
Teru slowly adopting “Ma” as Minegishi’s parent nickname, and they don’t mind all that much. I mean, at least it starts with an ‘M’...?
Teru absolutely refusing to call Shimazaki anything but insults.
“Why you little shit.” Shimazaki, after discovering his face got drawn on again.
“Yeah, whatcha gonna do about it?” Teru sneered.
Later, Shimazaki is dangling Teru over the balcony by his foot and Teru’s struggling, before finally going, “MA, THE BITCH YOU MARRIED IS BULLYING ME AGAIN.”
“Granted, you did draw on his face for the hundredth time this week. Love, that’s really not how you hold a baby,” Minegishi walks by, a pot in hand.
“The kid’s fifteen,” Shimazaki finally pulls him over.
“Did anyone dangle you off the balcony when you were fifteen?”
“Pfft, ‘course not, I’d just teleport away.” And to prove it, he teleports away the moment Teru tried to punch him. “Control your kid, please.”
“Our kid.”
Shimazaki gets a mix of aw, my heart and ugh, he ain’t mine in his head.
Teru seeing Joseph drop by for monthly hope-you’re-not-evil-again inspection and immediately thinking he’s going to arrest his parents so he starts attacking. “THEY’RE NOT BAD PEOPLE ANYMORE, DON’T TAKE THEM AWAY.”
“Bro, chill tf out man, have a cigarette.”
“I am a child.”
Joseph keeps it away, “Pussy. Anyways, dw just chekin’ in.”
Also, scenarios:
“Wow, your son is so handsome!”
Shimazaki: Yeah, he gets it from me. *wink*
Teru: We are not blood related. Thank god amirite?
Shimazaki: >| (
-
Teru: Yeah, some ex Claw dude tried to attack me the other day, I handled it like a champ.
Shimazaki: Atta kid! Did they bleed?
Minegishi, pulling out with their venus flytrap: Who and where?
-
Teru having a soccer match and they’re watching.
Shimazaki: ARE YA WINNING SON?
Teru, using his powers: *Kicks ball at Shimazaki*
Shimazaki: MOTHER FU--
-
Teru: How was work.
Minegishi: Shit.
Teru: Damn :(
Shimazaki: Me too.
Teru: Bruh do I look like I care?
-
Teru holding Shimazaki’s hand so he knows when to cross the road.
-
Teru and Minegishi making flowercrowns in their free time while they talk about things.

In OPM, we have been blessed by both ONE (the best storyteller) and Murata (the best illustrator). I'm forever grateful for that fact. For me, every single works that ONE had created are excellent and have good quality story, kinda fresh and exciting to read unlike some mainstream shounen/seinen manga which usually seems formulaic. Btw, I love your analysis posts on webcomic topics, those are so good! Please talk more about it 💖
Ooo, besting. Haha I don’t like using unqualified superlatives but I have to admit ONE and Murata are currently my favorites and I do think they are exceptional.
As far as Murata goes, I think I was near the Sea King chapter when I became consciously aware of how much time I was spending just staring at the line-work in the individual panels. I haven’t done quite as much research into his works but he does have a bit of a range in his styles. I was curious to see what more of his work looks like and so I considered reading Eyeshield 21, but since I’m prejudiced against sports in general I haven’t started. Murata’s art for OPM is a beautiful style I will shamelessly use to inspire my art for years to come.
As far as ONE goes I loved the Mob Psycho 100 anime and I’ll be getting through the mangas shortly. While I missed a lot of the value of One-Punch Man when I first watched it, when I found the Manga and webcomic it quickly became my top favorite manga of all time. It’s definitely not what I expected. When I started reading Makai no Ossan I couldn’t put it down. I was awake at night till 3am thinking ‘oh just one more chapter.’
I like that ONE addressed a lot of similar themes with different contexts because sometimes the context matters and it makes the lesson a bit more comprehensible to different people in different phases of life. I think he’s aware of certain struggles people face at different phases of life too, and he doesn’t write everyone as a teenager. When ONE give’s his characters an age it means something, and it doesn’t necessarily mean maturity or experience directly proportional to their age. I think that, for me, ONE’s story telling feels so ‘fresh and exciting’ because it's almost as if he’s going through an exploration process with you as the reader to work out certain concepts and the implications.
I don’t know how he does it but it almost feels like the character’s he writes live outside of him as the author with a will of their own that he gives life to for us. Sometimes it seems that he doesn’t even have a message he’s trying to communicate to the audience but so often a ‘moral’ or an ‘idea’ emerges from the pages even in the face of scenarios that seem to make that message implausible. An example I have for that at the moment is the battle between the spirit of Keiji Mogami, who killed himself after becoming angry and bitter at the horrible tragedies of life and Shigeo. When Keiji tried to show Shigeo why he’s so angry with the world, why rage and despair is the only logical conclusion, Shigeo peered into that rage and despair -possibly almost getting lost in it himself for a moment- only to come out stronger than before with the conviction that gratitude and hope is the path for him.
I think HOPE is really one of the big things for me with ONE. I can be a pretty pessimistic person at times and I don’t resonate well with stories that pretend that everything is going to be alright. Stories that preach hope without addressing the pain and horror of living feel naive. I also don’t like to read horror stories and nihilistic stories all the time because it just puts me in a pretty dark place. I often find myself feeling hopeless and the cold emptiness of despair seems like a relief from some of the grief I’ve experienced. So when I have a good source of hope in my life I cling to it like a life preserver. I don’t really use storytelling as an escape from reality but as an extension of reality, to help make sense of it and to make it bearable. I think hope is one of those things that shines the brightest when the image is in full contrast and not muted by a softer light. Like Sam’s quote from Lord of the Rings:
Frodo: I can’t do this, Sam.
Sam: I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered, full of darkness and danger they were. Sometimes you didn’t want to know the end, because how could the end be happy. How could the world go back to the way it was when there’s so much bad that had happened? But in the end it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That mean something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances to turn back only they didn’t. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding on to, Sam?
Sam: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.
Thank you! I am glad you like the writing I’ve done about the webcomic. I would like to do some more and knowing you’re interested in reading more does give me some additional motivation to get writing. :)
